Speaker 5: of course, you know, on her mind and on the

1:54
Speaker 5: into a special session, which has now been announced for Monday,
1:57

Speaker 5: I want to start off with a little good news
2:46
Speaker 5: this morning about an event that's going to be going
2:48
Speaker 5: on September twenty seventh at Little Creek Country Club in
2:51
Speaker 5: South Charleston. It is the Red Cattle Cattle Classic. It's cattle,
2:56
Speaker 5: not cattle. The Red Kettle Classic Golf tournament benefit the
3:00
Speaker 5: Salvation Army and my man g money from her sister
3:03
Speaker 5: station one of seven three The Beat, also very involved
3:06
Speaker 5: with the Salvation Army, joins us now to talk about it.
3:08
Speaker 5: G good morning, welcome to the show.
3:10
Speaker 7: Hey, good morning, Dave. Thanks for having me on today.
3:12
Speaker 5: Thank you for being here. And I'm glad to know
3:14
Speaker 5: that everybody survived Woody Wood's wedding over the weekend.
3:17
Speaker 7: Oh man, it was a great wedding, Dave, I tell you,
3:20
Speaker 7: And we did survive Woody.
3:23
Speaker 5: I heard got a little hot and bothered there and
3:25
Speaker 5: kind of you know, had a little had a little
3:28
Speaker 5: moment there. But he's okay now right, Oh.
3:30
Speaker 7: You know, the show must go on and that's he,
3:32
Speaker 7: that's my brother Woody.
3:35
Speaker 5: Indeed, overall, G and A. I know again, in addition
3:38
Speaker 5: to your work at one of the seven three the Beat,
3:39
Speaker 5: you're also very involved with the Salvation Army. I mean,
3:42
Speaker 5: you know, we see the Salvation Army folks out. We
3:44
Speaker 5: see the red kettles of course at Christmas time, and
3:46
Speaker 5: we know some of what they do, but that's certainly
3:48
Speaker 5: not all of us. So give us I guess, gee,
3:51
Speaker 5: maybe the elevator speech, if you will, about the work
3:54
Speaker 5: some of the things from the top that the Salvation
3:56
Speaker 5: Army does here in the Charleston area, well right.
3:59
Speaker 7: Here in the in the area of the Salvation Army
4:01
Speaker 7: does a lot of work. They have, of course, the
4:04
Speaker 7: Salvation Army stores they have around and a lot of
4:09
Speaker 7: the attention goes, of course to the Boys and Girls Club.
4:13
Speaker 7: They have a Boys and Girls club right here in Charleston,
4:15
Speaker 7: and they have one in Saint Albans. And like I said,
4:18
Speaker 7: of course, you know, if you need help with your
4:20
Speaker 7: utilities and things like that, these are some of the
4:22
Speaker 7: things that the Salvation Army help help you with. So
4:27
Speaker 7: the little galas and fundraisers that we do, and the
4:32
Speaker 7: like you say, the Red Kettle Classic, the red kettles
4:35
Speaker 7: that you see out during Christmas time, all of this
4:38
Speaker 7: money goes to help towards people who needs help in
4:42
Speaker 7: our community. And that's exactly what the Salvation Army does. So,
4:47
Speaker 7: you know, we thought about, you know, hey, everyone sees
4:50
Speaker 7: these red kettles out during Christmas, why not try to
4:54
Speaker 7: put on a golf tournament. So this is our first
4:57
Speaker 7: annual Red Kettle Golf Tournament that we're putting on September
5:02
Speaker 7: to twenty seventh at Little Creek Golf Course, and we're
5:06
Speaker 7: looking we're still looking for sponsors. And if you are
5:10
Speaker 7: a golfer and you want a golf you want to
5:12
Speaker 7: you're going to get you a forcing together. We're still
5:15
Speaker 7: looking for golfers, so anything that you know. Again, if
5:19
Speaker 7: you want a sponsor, you can reach out to Patty
5:23
Speaker 7: Tilly and her number is give me one second year,
5:28
Speaker 7: I have it. I'm sorry, that's all right.
5:30
Speaker 5: You kind of got thrown into this. I mean what
5:32
Speaker 5: I'm sorry, g kind of last minute. Got to fill
5:35
Speaker 5: in for Patty for what I understand, So we'll forgive
5:38
Speaker 5: you if you know, if you weren't quite prepared.
5:40
Speaker 7: Yeah, you can reach out to Patty at three oh
5:42
Speaker 7: four three four three four five four eight and her
5:48
Speaker 7: extension is five zero two one one and she can
5:52
Speaker 7: tell you all of the information. And again, the main
5:55
Speaker 7: thing that we're looking for is sponsors, and we need
5:58
Speaker 7: more golfers.
6:00
Speaker 5: Yeah, and I mean, you know, there seems like there's
6:02
Speaker 5: always some sort of golf tournament going on, but they're
6:04
Speaker 5: always packed out. So I think people are willing to
6:06
Speaker 5: give up a day of work to play golf, especially
6:08
Speaker 5: if the weather's good and Little Creek is a great
6:10
Speaker 5: place to play as well.
6:12
Speaker 7: Yeah, exactly, And it's on a Friday, so why not
6:15
Speaker 7: take you Friday also work and come out and play
6:17
Speaker 7: some golf.
6:17
Speaker 5: The only day better than Friday to take off is Monday.
6:20
Speaker 5: That's why a lot of people have them on Monday.
6:22
Speaker 5: But Friday is just as good. And of course you're
6:24
Speaker 5: going to do all the awards that go along with golf.
6:26
Speaker 5: Closest to the pen, the longest drive, and mulligans will
6:29
Speaker 5: be available, all the stuff that goes along, and also
6:31
Speaker 5: prizes for the winner as well. It's going to be
6:34
Speaker 5: September twenty seventh at Little Creek Golf Course. And again
6:37
Speaker 5: they're in need of sponsors right now and golfers, so
6:41
Speaker 5: get you foursome together if you want to come out.
6:43
Speaker 5: I'm sure as an individual they'll put you with a
6:45
Speaker 5: team if that's what has to happen. And if your
6:48
Speaker 5: company would like to get involved with you as an
6:50
Speaker 5: individual would just like to make a donation, just get
6:53
Speaker 5: with Patty and the folks at the Salvation Army again.
6:55
Speaker 5: The event is September twenty seventh at Little Creek Golf Course.
6:58
Speaker 5: And geez I said, I know you're somebody that's very
7:00
Speaker 5: involved with the Salvation Army and you get to see
7:02
Speaker 5: on a daily basis the things that they do, not
7:05
Speaker 5: just at Christmas time, but but year round, buddy.
7:08
Speaker 7: Exactly, Like I say, we right now, we're still looking
7:12
Speaker 7: for sponsors, and one of our sponsors is to back
7:15
Speaker 7: to school sponsors. And again, you know, we do a
7:17
Speaker 7: lot of things when it comes to the kids going
7:19
Speaker 7: back to school. Another one of our sponsors, like I stated,
7:23
Speaker 7: was the Boys and Girls Club. We have a Boys
7:25
Speaker 7: and Girls club here in Charleston and one in Saint Aubans,
7:29
Speaker 7: So you know, we they we do a lot of
7:31
Speaker 7: things and they you know, you see a lot right
7:34
Speaker 7: at Christmas time. The Angel Tree. I cannot forget about
7:37
Speaker 7: the Angel Tree. You know, that is one of our
7:40
Speaker 7: big things during the Christmas time. You know, we allow
7:43
Speaker 7: you know, people to go out and pick the kids'
7:46
Speaker 7: names off of the tree and provide gifts. So that
7:48
Speaker 7: is another one of our big sponsors. So you know,
7:51
Speaker 7: the Salvation Army does a lot for the community, and
7:55
Speaker 7: you know, why not give back to the Salvation Army.
7:57
Speaker 5: Absolutely, And again that number I think is three zero four,
8:01
Speaker 5: three four, three forty five, forty eight that was the
8:03
Speaker 5: correct number for Patty at the Salvation Army. Hey, gee,
8:06
Speaker 5: I know you're really, really, really busy, and we were
8:08
Speaker 5: able to sweeze you in here this morning to talk
8:10
Speaker 5: about it. We'll talk about a little bit more as
8:12
Speaker 5: we get a little bit closer. Thanks a lot, Have
8:14
Speaker 5: a great day, buddy. We'll see you out there on
8:15
Speaker 5: the twenty seventh.
8:16
Speaker 7: All right, Dave, I appreciate you having me.
8:18
Speaker 5: All right, man, that's g Money, our man from our
8:21
Speaker 5: sister station. What was seven three? The beat also heavily
8:23
Speaker 5: involved with the work of the Salvation Army that read
8:26
Speaker 5: Kettle Classic. What they hope is going to be a
8:29
Speaker 5: yearly event happening September twenty seventh at Little Creek Golf
8:33
Speaker 5: Course in South Charleston. So get out there, and again
8:37
Speaker 5: I like the idea of having it on a Friday,
8:39
Speaker 5: So go ahead, start your weekend early, get out there
8:41
Speaker 5: and play some golf, shoot some golfs, as my father
8:44
Speaker 5: used to say, and get an opportunity to help out
8:46
Speaker 5: those in need, not only at Christmas, but year round.
8:49
Speaker 5: You'll be helping out the boys and girls clubs. Just
8:51
Speaker 5: just great, great cause all around. September twenty seventh, at

9:31
Speaker 5: zero zero eight. So we had an opportunity to hear
9:34
Speaker 5: yesterday's show, but I did with the Secretary of the
9:38
Speaker 5: State Republican Party, Tony Hodge. He was on yesterday not
9:42
Speaker 5: talking about necessarily his work with the state GOP, but
9:45
Speaker 5: he was on ready to talk about this podcast that
9:48
Speaker 5: he has launched and went back and forth with the listeners.
9:51
Speaker 5: So I had a couple of texts. I know Tony
9:53
Speaker 5: listens to the show just about every day. Tex says,
9:56
Speaker 5: and this was in all. Let me give a little
9:59
Speaker 5: by ground here and again. I don't argue religion with people,
10:05
Speaker 5: That's one thing I don't do. But to somebody had
10:08
Speaker 5: brought up to Tony something that was in the Bible.
10:10
Speaker 5: And follow up Texas morning, he says, I know Tony
10:13
Speaker 5: with dodgs a tabernacle water question, claiming that Christians don't
10:16
Speaker 5: have to follow the Old Testament. He's of course lying.
10:18
Speaker 5: He thinks it's okay because it furthers the Christian nationalism.
10:21
Speaker 5: When you see Tony, I'm sure he's listening. Ask him why.
10:25
Speaker 5: Matthew five seventeen through nineteen states that Jesus had not
10:28
Speaker 5: come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have
10:30
Speaker 5: not come to abolish him, but to fulfill them. Then
10:33
Speaker 5: ask him if he could ignore parts of the Bible
10:35
Speaker 5: literally prescribing an abortion, because it's inconvenient to him. Why can't
10:39
Speaker 5: someone else guarantee he'll lie that Jesus said so, and
10:42
Speaker 5: lie that Jesus didn't say that, not one iota of
10:45
Speaker 5: Old Testament law should be disregarded. Tony lies for Jesus,
10:49
Speaker 5: all fundamentalist Christians do pretty pretty harsh stuff from a text. Hey, like,
10:54
Speaker 5: I'm just a con do it, man, I just put
10:57
Speaker 5: the information out there. Coming up TOMORROWSHO know, we're going
11:01
Speaker 5: to get into all these school threats and repercussions thereof.
11:05
Speaker 5: Let me tell you some heads are about to be
11:06
Speaker 5: cracking over this, and I've got some stats I'm going
11:10
Speaker 5: to give you a little bit later on in the
11:11
Speaker 5: show if I get around to it about there. Yesterday,
11:14
Speaker 5: just yesterday, two more students from the Elky area I
11:17
Speaker 5: believe it was, were charged with making threats. This says
11:22
Speaker 5: nothing to nothing to laugh about. And if you're a
11:24
Speaker 5: parent or a grandparent, or you're in charge of a kid,
11:26
Speaker 5: you need to sutten down and say, look, you do this,
11:29
Speaker 5: you're going to be charged and you are going to
11:31
Speaker 5: be in a heck of a lot of trouble. We're
11:33
Speaker 5: not talking about grounding or taking away your cell phone.
11:36
Speaker 5: We're talking about you going away for a long time.
11:38
Speaker 5: So tomorrow on the show, I'm gonna be joined by
11:40
Speaker 5: Rob Cunningham from Homeland Security here in West Virginia. And
11:42
Speaker 5: also Knaw County Prosecutor Deb Rusnick. She's been all over
11:46
Speaker 5: the news basically saying what I just said. I'm going
11:48
Speaker 5: to have the two of them in studio together to
11:51
Speaker 5: talk about what is going on not only in West Virginia,
11:55
Speaker 5: but other areas as well. Also in tomorrow show, doctor

Speaker 5: and tomorrow night to go markin Ballpark. Then they're gonna

15:08
Speaker 5: Of course, it's the best of five series, and if
15:11
Speaker 5: they win the series, I don't want to get the

15:25
Speaker 5: a big shout out to Jill Garren, the voice of
15:28
Speaker 5: the Dirty Birds marketing. She does everything for the Dirty Birds.
15:31
Speaker 5: Jill was on the show yesterday talking about this about
15:35
Speaker 5: twenty four hours ago in this very position. She was
15:37
Speaker 5: on the show giving us the preview of the of
15:40
Speaker 5: the of the Dirty Birds playoff games here and on
15:43
Speaker 5: the road, and then she goes off and gets married.
15:45
Speaker 5: She literally scheduled the interview and then she went and
15:49
Speaker 5: got married yesterday. Never mentioned it on the air or anything.
15:52
Speaker 5: I mean, like, what are you doing later day? Well,
15:54
Speaker 5: I'm gonna you know, I'm gonna go and run some marns,
15:56
Speaker 5: go to post offics on and I'm gonna go get
15:58
Speaker 5: married too. So that's what she did. After the interview,
16:01
Speaker 5: she went and got married yesterday. But I'll guarantee you
16:03
Speaker 5: is she'll be back at the ballpark tonight and tomorrow
16:05
Speaker 5: night as well. So Jill, congratulations, enjoy your niptials. Welcome
16:11
Speaker 5: to the show. Kaylee Young, Kenawan County Democrat. How are
16:14
Speaker 5: you welcome to my friend. That's pretty cool. That's pretty cool.
16:16
Speaker 10: I think that's really cool.
16:17
Speaker 5: Come and doing your job and go. Oh, by the way,
16:19
Speaker 5: I got to go get married at eleven o'clock, make.
16:21
Speaker 10: A Monday wedding, but then I'll be back.
16:23
Speaker 5: At the ballpark.
16:23
Speaker 6: Yeah.
16:24
Speaker 5: Congratulations to it, Jill. She's good people and we're lucky
16:27
Speaker 5: to have her here in Charles graduator to her husband
16:30
Speaker 5: as well. All right, So I want to get in
16:33
Speaker 5: to it with you a little bit, Delian. First of all,
16:35
Speaker 5: you were at the DNC, the Democratic National Convention, were
16:38
Speaker 5: you not.
16:38
Speaker 10: I was at the DNC.
16:39
Speaker 5: Yes, your first time you'd been there.
16:41
Speaker 10: It was Yeah, I think we talked about it. It
16:42
Speaker 10: was a good time, all right.
16:43
Speaker 5: I want to give me give me your overall. I mean,
16:45
Speaker 5: I know there's a lot of excitement that came out
16:47
Speaker 5: of that. You had a good time.
16:48
Speaker 10: Kind of felt like the super Bowl, and it seemed
16:49
Speaker 10: like the Dems were trying to say, you know, we're
16:52
Speaker 10: a big tent for folks that might not be big
16:54
Speaker 10: Trump supporters, that there's room for everybody. There were a
16:56
Speaker 10: lot of Republican speakers. The message was very centered, lots
16:59
Speaker 10: of American flags and patriotism. It felt good.
17:02
Speaker 5: I want to ask you this, and I'm almost I'm
17:04
Speaker 5: going to get back to local stuff, but I do
17:06
Speaker 5: want to talk about some national things. How are you feeling,
17:08
Speaker 5: Delegate now that Kamala Harris is a nominee, because I
17:11
Speaker 5: know you were one of the first Democrats I saw,
17:13
Speaker 5: and there were others, but you were one of ones
17:15
Speaker 5: that kind of put it out there asking for President
17:19
Speaker 5: Biden to step aside and to catapult Kamala Harrison into
17:25
Speaker 5: that position. So how are you feeling now?
17:28
Speaker 10: So I was the first Democrat and West Virginia to
17:30
Speaker 10: ask President Biden to step aside. I think Senator Mansion
17:32
Speaker 10: followed me, but I don't know that he's a Democrat anymore,
17:35
Speaker 10: and so maybe I was the only one, honestly, So
17:38
Speaker 10: I'm feeling a lot better about our candidate and about
17:40
Speaker 10: our chances this fall.
17:42
Speaker 5: All right, So let's move on. Let's talk about child issues,
17:44
Speaker 5: because I know it's something that is near and dear
17:47
Speaker 5: to your heart. Wallett and Wallet special session is scheduled
17:53
Speaker 5: for September thirtieth. We got a lot of issues in
17:56
Speaker 5: this state with and I said child care once before.
17:59
Speaker 5: It's not just childcare if it has the word child
18:02
Speaker 5: in front of it. It seems like in West Virginia,
18:05
Speaker 5: for one reason or another, we have a problem.
18:06
Speaker 10: That's right with it. Yeah, I would say I saw
18:09
Speaker 10: that our math and English scores are getting better, so
18:11
Speaker 10: I'm excited about that. And our chronic absenteeism is getting
18:14
Speaker 10: better thanks to some legislation that we passed. But child
18:17
Speaker 10: welfare and childcare issues, which child welfare is foster care system,
18:21
Speaker 10: that sort of thing, we still got a lot of
18:23
Speaker 10: work to do.
18:26
Speaker 5: And something else that's actually getting a little bit better.
18:28
Speaker 5: I was happy to see last week his attendance in
18:30
Speaker 5: West Virginia. It's actually it's actually getting a little bit better.
18:32
Speaker 10: It is getting better because of a law that we passed,
18:34
Speaker 10: and so I'm excited about that. There's still a lot
18:36
Speaker 10: of work to be done. But yeah, that one's getting better.
18:39
Speaker 5: Again, we're talking with the delicate Klee Young. Let's talk
18:41
Speaker 5: about childcare. Yeah, that's that's that's really at the heart
18:45
Speaker 5: of a lot of issues here. We want to get
18:47
Speaker 5: people back to work. There are plenty of jobs available.
18:49
Speaker 10: There are more jobs and people.
18:50
Speaker 5: There are more jobs and people. So please don't come
18:52
Speaker 5: at me, not that you would, but these that there
18:54
Speaker 5: are no jobs out there. There are jobs available. But
18:56
Speaker 5: childcare is a major major issue.
18:58
Speaker 10: Delegate, that's right, childcare cost about thirty percent of families budgets.
19:02
Speaker 10: They've found between fifteen and thirty percent of a family's budget.
19:06
Speaker 10: It costs more out of pocket than paying for WVU
19:09
Speaker 10: per semester. And there's not a lot of financial help
19:11
Speaker 10: if you make over a certain income level, and that
19:13
Speaker 10: income level's pretty low, so there's not a lot of help.
19:16
Speaker 10: And it is expensive. It's about two hundred bucks a
19:18
Speaker 10: week a kid. It's high.
19:21
Speaker 5: So what is the government's role?
19:23
Speaker 10: So it's this is a sticky wicket, right because it
19:26
Speaker 10: is a system that we have to have for people
19:28
Speaker 10: to go to work, and it we're figuring out what
19:31
Speaker 10: the government's role is. In the nineteen forties, we had
19:33
Speaker 10: universal childcare that the federal government paid for during World
19:36
Speaker 10: War Two, and that was the only time we ever
19:38
Speaker 10: had it. And so the government subsidizes childcare heavily in
19:41
Speaker 10: the state, and that's federal funding. The state itself puts
19:44
Speaker 10: in about eight million dollars and that amount has actually
19:48
Speaker 10: decreased sixty percent over the last decade, and we've seen
19:52
Speaker 10: our childcare decreasing as well. We've had seventy centers closed
19:55
Speaker 10: this year.
19:56
Speaker 5: Specifically, why are they closing?
19:58
Speaker 10: They're closing because their costs have gone up drastically and
20:00
Speaker 10: the funding that the state has put in has gone down.
20:03
Speaker 10: Right now, it's a very very slim margin for a
20:05
Speaker 10: childcare business. If you decided I want to start a
20:08
Speaker 10: childcare business, and you go into a bank to get
20:10
Speaker 10: a loan and you show them the numbers, no one's
20:12
Speaker 10: going to give you that loan. The numbers don't make sense.
20:14
Speaker 10: It is not a business where you make money. But
20:17
Speaker 10: it is an essential service and that's why the government
20:19
Speaker 10: needs to have a role in it. It is it
20:20
Speaker 10: is infrastructure, and we saw that absolutely during the pandemic,
20:24
Speaker 10: so we have a role to play. That doesn't mean
20:26
Speaker 10: we fully pay for it, but I think we get
20:29
Speaker 10: businesses involved. I think there's a private public partnership. We've
20:31
Speaker 10: had a lot of bills introduced in the House to
20:33
Speaker 10: do so, and so hopefully we'll see those. We haven't
20:36
Speaker 10: seen the call yet for a special session.
20:38
Speaker 5: I want to ask you about that again. With the
20:40
Speaker 5: special session. Obviously, you and others on both sides of
20:43
Speaker 5: the aspect are scream at the top of your lungs childcare, childcare,
20:47
Speaker 5: or anything related to childcare. But are you hopeful about
20:50
Speaker 5: the special sess.
20:50
Speaker 10: I've remained hopeful right now. Yeah, we saw the governor
20:53
Speaker 10: had one childcare bill during the regular session. It was
20:56
Speaker 10: a tax credit. There's already a federal tax credit, and
20:59
Speaker 10: this would be about half of that tax credit. We
21:01
Speaker 10: know eleven thousand people in West Virginia claim that credit
21:04
Speaker 10: currently and it's about four hundred and fifty bucks, so
21:06
Speaker 10: half of that would be about two hundred and twenty
21:09
Speaker 10: five dollars for those families. And those are families that
21:11
Speaker 10: are making less than forty thousand dollars a year. And
21:13
Speaker 10: if you're making I mean the low the people who
21:15
Speaker 10: get the most money back make less than fifteen thousand
21:18
Speaker 10: dollars a year. Those people already aren't paying for childcare.
21:20
Speaker 10: So this is a piece of the puzzle. I'm gonna
21:22
Speaker 10: support that proposal if that's what we're gonna see, but
21:24
Speaker 10: we need so much more than that. And you're right,
21:26
Speaker 10: it's bipartisan.
21:27
Speaker 5: What would you say to those And I've had you know,
21:29
Speaker 5: various legislators on the air from time to time or
21:32
Speaker 5: maybe listeners or whatever. They say, it's not the government's
21:35
Speaker 5: role to do this.
21:36
Speaker 10: I understand where they're coming from, but I think it
21:38
Speaker 10: is infrastructure. I mean it's not the government's role, I guess,
21:41
Speaker 10: just like maybe roads shouldn't be the government's role, but
21:43
Speaker 10: I have a feel I think they are. I think
21:45
Speaker 10: it is the government's role to help folks, you know,
21:48
Speaker 10: have their basic needs met and to definitely help in
21:50
Speaker 10: the development of children. This is not This is about
21:53
Speaker 10: getting parents to work, absolutely, but it's also about making
21:56
Speaker 10: sure that our young leaders are having the best setup
21:59
Speaker 10: that they can. It's also about parental choice. It's about
22:01
Speaker 10: making sure that families can do what works for them,
22:03
Speaker 10: not what they have to do. And sometimes what they
22:05
Speaker 10: have to do right now is stay home and not
22:07
Speaker 10: work because they can't find or afford childcare.
22:10
Speaker 5: Talking again with Delicate Kyale Young the Dave Island Show
22:13
Speaker 5: in five Adie Live Bright to You Apart by bright

22:28
Speaker 5: the right coverages and prices to protect your business. For more,
22:31
Speaker 5: visit Brightwaymaids dot com. Let's talk about other child issues
22:34
Speaker 5: in instead of West Virginia. We talked about childcare, but
22:37
Speaker 5: obviously we've got a problem called a crisis called whatever
22:41
Speaker 5: you want with foster care in West Virginia. And as
22:45
Speaker 5: I said earlier the top of the show, Delegate, if
22:47
Speaker 5: it's got the word child in front of it, it
22:48
Speaker 5: seems like and I you know, I don't want to
22:51
Speaker 5: be all doomed in gloom, but it seems like that
22:53
Speaker 5: for one reason or another, West Virginia is falling behind
22:56
Speaker 5: if it has the word child in it. So how
23:01
Speaker 5: did we get here? How do we fix it? There's
23:02
Speaker 5: your there's your task. I'll leave you go ahead and
23:04
Speaker 5: talk about it.
23:04
Speaker 10: I wish that that was a simple answer, right, But
23:07
Speaker 10: I think we all trying to We are trying to
23:09
Speaker 10: work on fixing it. And I don't think we got
23:11
Speaker 10: here from one political party or another, I think, but
23:14
Speaker 10: I do think we're here. And it also makes me
23:16
Speaker 10: wonder why in the world would people be moving their
23:18
Speaker 10: businesses here if we're failing our children. I can't understand it.
23:21
Speaker 10: These it's our future, and so we are failing them
23:25
Speaker 10: in every way, not every single way, right, but in
23:27
Speaker 10: a lot of ways, and so we need to put
23:29
Speaker 10: our money where our mouth is. We have all this
23:31
Speaker 10: extra money, we should put a lot of it towards children,
23:34
Speaker 10: making sure they're safe at school, making sure they have
23:37
Speaker 10: adequate aftercare needs, pre K needs, making sure they have
23:40
Speaker 10: mental health services, all these things that we can do
23:43
Speaker 10: to set them up for futures, not set them up
23:45
Speaker 10: for jail or prison or lives that aren't great. We
23:49
Speaker 10: need to do everything we can to help them.
23:52
Speaker 5: How are we doing at taking a look at things
23:54
Speaker 5: like you know, and again, everybody's get their their feelings
23:57
Speaker 5: on home home homeschooling not sink. If it's done, I
24:00
Speaker 5: have no issue with it whatsoever, but sadly, in many
24:03
Speaker 5: cases not all by entreaching the imagination. As I've told
24:05
Speaker 5: the story on the show. My best friend from high school,
24:08
Speaker 5: she and her husband homeschooled their kids, no issues whatsoever.
24:11
Speaker 5: They did everything they're supposed to do, and the kids
24:12
Speaker 5: turned out great, and they're responsible adults now, so on
24:15
Speaker 5: and so forth. But there's an issue with reporting. I
24:18
Speaker 5: think sometimes it goes back to I mean, you just
24:20
Speaker 5: take a look at what happened in Boone County. Yeah,
24:22
Speaker 5: that situation down there. Maybe the left didn't know left
24:25
Speaker 5: hand didn't know what the right hand was doing or whatever,
24:28
Speaker 5: and that unfortunately that young lady, it appears fell through
24:31
Speaker 5: the cracks. We've seen it in other areas. How do
24:34
Speaker 5: we fix that?
24:34
Speaker 10: I think there's a lot to do, and I think
24:36
Speaker 10: it involves bringing everyone to the table. I've tried to
24:38
Speaker 10: think of unique solutions. I know we often say what
24:40
Speaker 10: are all the other states doing? But I think this
24:43
Speaker 10: is happening kind of everywhere. I don't think anyone's getting
24:45
Speaker 10: it perfectly right. So I think it involves bringing everyone
24:48
Speaker 10: to the table with dignity and respect. I think that
24:50
Speaker 10: there are people that are doing great jobs homeschooling too.
24:53
Speaker 10: I don't think we should be villainizing anyone in this situation.
24:56
Speaker 10: But something isn't working right.
24:57
Speaker 5: I mean, and you've talked about on the show. I
24:59
Speaker 5: think sometimes if you have a D after your name,
25:01
Speaker 5: people automatically think your anti homeschool and your anti charter
25:04
Speaker 5: school whatever. You just want it done right right. That's
25:07
Speaker 5: what the decision that the parents do.
25:08
Speaker 10: Yeah, I care about kids right.
25:10
Speaker 5: How to text for you is totally unrelated, but I
25:12
Speaker 5: know that you're always good to answer questions. It says
25:15
Speaker 5: I hope we can all agree that West Virginia must
25:17
Speaker 5: have tougher animal abuse and neglect laws than we currently do,
25:20
Speaker 5: which do nothing to deter people from hurting these sweet,
25:23
Speaker 5: innocent creatures. Otherwise this evil will continue to escalate. Can
25:26
Speaker 5: both sides please come together at least on this issue
25:29
Speaker 5: during special session? They do not deserve the cruelty inflicted
25:32
Speaker 5: upon them, thank you.
25:33
Speaker 10: I doubt it's going to happen during special session. That
25:36
Speaker 10: would be a call to the governor, not me, unfortunately,
25:38
Speaker 10: But yeah, I think we should work on animal abuse laws.
25:40
Speaker 10: I always worked on animal cruelty laws with our mutual
25:43
Speaker 10: friend Diana Graves, who was great on all those issues.
25:46
Speaker 10: And so yeah, we absolutely need.
25:48
Speaker 5: To do more, but probably not doing special sessionally, not
25:51
Speaker 5: during just because you can only discuss what's on that
25:54
Speaker 5: and it looks like it. I mean, hopefully it's going
25:56
Speaker 5: to be addressing the childcare I mean that's the hope. Anyway.
26:00
Speaker 5: Twenty seven minutes away from ten, you mentioned there briefly
26:03
Speaker 5: about the excess money that West Virginia has. Of course,
26:05
Speaker 5: the governor is calling. He would love to see the
26:10
Speaker 5: total removal of the state income tax in West Virginia.
26:13
Speaker 5: There's a lot of talk about surpluses and removing you know,
26:16
Speaker 5: a lot of Republicans even aren't for that. Where are
26:18
Speaker 5: you on things like that?
26:20
Speaker 10: I mean, I think if we have extra money, we
26:21
Speaker 10: should make sure that all of our services are funded adequately.
26:24
Speaker 10: And we've had a flat budget for a very long time,
26:26
Speaker 10: so that hasn't happened. But also if we have extra
26:29
Speaker 10: money and can give it back to folks, I'm all
26:31
Speaker 10: for it. I supported the lowering the personal income tax,
26:34
Speaker 10: and there was even an extra four percent that hasn't
26:37
Speaker 10: even gone into effect yet, so I think, I don't
26:40
Speaker 10: We'll see what happens. But I mean, people are already
26:42
Speaker 10: getting a quarter of their income tax back and it
26:45
Speaker 10: hasn't taken full effect, so we also haven't seen what
26:48
Speaker 10: it's going to do to our state budget.
26:49
Speaker 5: I worry long term, a lot of Republicans would echo
26:53
Speaker 5: what you're saying. I've had Senator Tara on the show
26:55
Speaker 5: last week. I know, House Speaker Hanshaw, Senate President Lair,
26:58
Speaker 5: even Attorney General Morrissey, the Republican nominee for governor, even
27:02
Speaker 5: says we got we got to err on the side
27:04
Speaker 5: of caution on this and pump the brakes a little bit.
27:07
Speaker 5: You go along with that.
27:07
Speaker 10: I agree with that completely. Yeah, I think people elect
27:10
Speaker 10: us to be responsible and we need to do so,
27:12
Speaker 10: not just try to win elections.
27:14
Speaker 5: So let's let's talk a little bit about what else
27:17
Speaker 5: is going on in your world. I mean, we know
27:18
Speaker 5: we get the special session covered up on the thirtieth,
27:21
Speaker 5: but what's what's what's keeping you up at night or
27:23
Speaker 5: keeping you working these days?
27:25
Speaker 10: Not keeping me up at night. But I've been on
27:27
Speaker 10: TikTok a lot lately and trying to explain different things
27:29
Speaker 10: in the government from nonpartisan standpoints. I understand that I'm
27:33
Speaker 10: an elected partisan member of the legislature, but I try
27:35
Speaker 10: to just put information out. We have a constitutional amendment
27:38
Speaker 10: on the ballot. I'm not for or against this, and
27:41
Speaker 10: that sounds like a super politician answer. I'll tell you
27:45
Speaker 10: how I feel. But more than anything, I want people
27:47
Speaker 10: to know that there's a constitutional amendment on the ballot
27:49
Speaker 10: this fall. I've talked to so many people that have
27:52
Speaker 10: no idea find it to us. So it's Amendment one.
27:55
Speaker 10: It is called Protection from Physician Assisted Suicide and and
28:00
Speaker 10: basically it is banning in our constitution to say that
28:05
Speaker 10: we could never have physicians assist with suicide. So there
28:10
Speaker 10: are some states that have different sources of laws, like
28:13
Speaker 10: death with dignity. None of these laws have been introduced
28:16
Speaker 10: in West Virginia, but it would allow in certain instances
28:19
Speaker 10: if this law was passed, to allow people with like
28:23
Speaker 10: terminal illnesses to use a doctor to end their life
28:27
Speaker 10: on their own terms. And so that's not happening here.
28:30
Speaker 10: I'm not pushing that, but there's a constitutional amendment to
28:33
Speaker 10: ban it, and that's going to be on your ballot
28:35
Speaker 10: this year. And if you read it, it's very long
28:38
Speaker 10: and it's very confusing, but essentially a yes vote means
28:41
Speaker 10: you want to ban that practice for ever happening because
28:45
Speaker 10: it would be in our state constitution. And in no
28:47
Speaker 10: vote means you want to keep everything as it is
28:49
Speaker 10: right now.
28:50
Speaker 5: But I mean it's already on the books, right.
28:53
Speaker 10: Murder is a crime, that's right, right, Okay.
28:55
Speaker 5: And I know I guess some information last night from
29:00
Speaker 5: in Putnam County last night, the Putnam County Republican Executive Committee,
29:03
Speaker 5: I guess met last night and they they've passed a
29:06
Speaker 5: resolution where where where you know they're they're calling it
29:09
Speaker 5: a good pro life bill.
29:11
Speaker 10: It is the Yeah, the only people I've seen talking
29:14
Speaker 10: about it are people that call themselves pro life, and
29:18
Speaker 10: they believe in a natural death, and so they don't
29:21
Speaker 10: believe that there's any instance where, you know, they don't
29:24
Speaker 10: want folks to have bodily autonomy essentially and be able
29:26
Speaker 10: to make those own choices. They want the government to
29:29
Speaker 10: get in their business and make their medical decisions for them,
29:31
Speaker 10: in my opinion, and so basically those are the things
29:34
Speaker 10: that you're deciding on on this constitutional amendment. But please
29:37
Speaker 10: please pay attention to how it's worded, because it is
29:39
Speaker 10: very confusing.
29:41
Speaker 5: Okay, and let me knock out a couple of texts
29:42
Speaker 5: for you before you go to deligate young regarding government
29:45
Speaker 5: funded childcare. It's not the government's job to pay for childcare.
29:49
Speaker 5: Parents choose to have kids and choose to be two
29:51
Speaker 5: income families. Personally, my wife and I chose to have
29:53
Speaker 5: kids and have her stay at home while I worked.
29:56
Speaker 5: We made priority choices so we could do that, and
29:59
Speaker 5: it worked.
30:00
Speaker 10: I'm sure it did work. And again, I don't want
30:01
Speaker 10: to take those choices away from folks. I just want
30:03
Speaker 10: to make sure that everyone's able to make the choice
30:05
Speaker 10: that they want to make, whether they want to work,
30:07
Speaker 10: stay at home with their kids, whatever. We just want
30:09
Speaker 10: to make sure that that's available for everyone. West Virginia
30:11
Speaker 10: has the lowest workforce participation and our test scores are
30:14
Speaker 10: also very low for our kids. So something isn't working
30:17
Speaker 10: right now, Texas.
30:18
Speaker 5: If the government doesn't have a role in the suring
30:20
Speaker 5: children have adequate resources, should the government expect those children
30:23
Speaker 5: to assure its existence when they are older.
30:26
Speaker 10: I don't really understand what that even well.
30:29
Speaker 5: I think I think basically what they're saying is is
30:31
Speaker 5: to those that would say that the government has.
30:34
Speaker 11: No role in this.
30:35
Speaker 6: Yeah.
30:35
Speaker 10: For me, it's interesting that we in our state constitution
30:39
Speaker 10: we guarantee free education, but that only starts at five,
30:42
Speaker 10: and we expect kids to show up to school ready
30:45
Speaker 10: at five, and a lot of them aren't because of
30:48
Speaker 10: whatever reason. So I don't know why that isn't extended
30:51
Speaker 10: as far down as we can. West Virginia has been
30:53
Speaker 10: a leader in universal pre k I think we should
30:55
Speaker 10: extend that to help folks make sure they can go
30:58
Speaker 10: to work and help make sure those kids are as
31:00
Speaker 10: ready as.
31:00
Speaker 5: Possible final Texas. As a former Democrat, I applaud Kaylee
31:05
Speaker 5: Young for her views she sounds like an old school Democrat,
31:08
Speaker 5: not one of those that have gone completely insane like
31:11
Speaker 5: many have over the past decades. Are you completely insane, Delegate?
31:14
Speaker 10: I hope I'm not completely insane. Maybe some days sometimes maybe, Yeah,
31:19
Speaker 10: sometimes I feel completely insane in the legislature because I'm
31:22
Speaker 10: out here fighting for things like free school lunch for
31:25
Speaker 10: kids and childcare and just making sure that everybody is
31:29
Speaker 10: getting along. I want nothing more than the government to
31:31
Speaker 10: be really boring, and the government hasn't been boring since
31:34
Speaker 10: I've been a very long time. I think we can
31:37
Speaker 10: all agree we have the government is not boring enough.
31:41
Speaker 5: That's a very good way to end it. Ryan. That's
31:43
Speaker 5: promo material right there. That's going to be in a promo,
31:46
Speaker 5: just so you know.
31:46
Speaker 4: Yeah.
31:47
Speaker 10: I mean, we should just be able to go. It
31:49
Speaker 10: should just work, and it's not in a lot of ways.
31:52
Speaker 10: And again it's not partisan. We just need to fix
31:54
Speaker 10: some stuff and quit worrying about all these big social issues.

35:31

35:34

36:35
Speaker 5: I will say that Texas. Putting doctors in a position

37:02
Speaker 5: home the city is good to be purchasing the old
37:05
Speaker 5: truest building on Piedmont Road. Chief, why the new building?
37:09
Speaker 14: We have been cramped for many years. We've actually been
37:12
Speaker 14: in city Hall for about one hundred and two years
37:14
Speaker 14: according to the history that I can find. And of
37:16
Speaker 14: course back then we had much less police officers. But
37:20
Speaker 14: now for decades now we've we've had a lot of
37:23
Speaker 14: officers and we've just outgrown our space and you know,
37:27
Speaker 14: we're we're stretched out all through the city. We have
37:29
Speaker 14: about six buildings now that we work out of and
37:33
Speaker 14: to have this building that has plenty of space to
37:36
Speaker 14: grow and everybody will be under one roof. So and
37:40
Speaker 14: why that is so important is for communications and efficiency
37:44
Speaker 14: of operations.
37:45
Speaker 5: Uh, a lot easier to communicate when when the guy's
37:48
Speaker 5: down the hall or beside you, as opposed to you know,
37:51
Speaker 5: completely across town. Even in the world of texting and emails.
37:54
Speaker 14: Yeah, exactly. So we all have cell phones, we all
37:56
Speaker 14: have email, but it makes it so much easier to
37:59
Speaker 14: have that face to face com conversation with employees and
38:01
Speaker 14: it helps building around camaraderie as well.
38:04
Speaker 5: We're talking with the Chief, Scott Dempsey of the Charleston
38:06
Speaker 5: Police depart and I know a lot went into this decision,
38:08
Speaker 5: and the council voted on it last night, and I'm
38:12
Speaker 5: told it was it was unanimous. There was no no
38:14
Speaker 5: votes against me. I don't know how anybody could possibly
38:17
Speaker 5: be against it. So when you say that it's going
38:19
Speaker 5: to consolidate everybody together, are you is the city still
38:22
Speaker 5: going to have police precincts in other areas like they
38:24
Speaker 5: do or just everybody goes there together.
38:26
Speaker 14: Yes, we will still have some areas where we have
38:28
Speaker 14: an office or I don't want to call it a
38:32
Speaker 14: precinct suit much, but at least some presence. I know
38:34
Speaker 14: we're working with Mayor good One now to still have
38:37
Speaker 14: some presence at city Hall. You know, with the special
38:40
Speaker 14: events that we have in that area of the Boulevard
38:43
Speaker 14: and Court Street, we're still going to have some presence
38:47
Speaker 14: there at city Hall.
38:48
Speaker 5: Now you know the city, you know, backwards, forwards and
38:51
Speaker 5: upside down, I'm sure, And we say it's on Piedmont
38:53
Speaker 5: Road in the old Truest building. Give me geographical landmarks
38:57
Speaker 5: of where this.
38:57
Speaker 14: Is, so if everyone knows, I think everybody town's been
39:00
Speaker 14: to Joe Phasios. Yes, it is pretty much Cady Corner
39:04
Speaker 14: to Joe Phasios. If you walk out the door.
39:06
Speaker 5: There's worse places to beat you exactly the worst place.
39:09
Speaker 14: Well, we're hoping we can work out a deal with
39:11
Speaker 14: with Phaseios to cater some Malfredo and they.
39:14
Speaker 5: Will have a police force that's too fat to do
39:16
Speaker 5: anything else. I'm kidding about that of course, but so
39:19
Speaker 5: that's where it's located. Do we have any and I
39:21
Speaker 5: know you're not an architect or anything like that, and
39:23
Speaker 5: it was literally just to proved twelve hours ago. But
39:26
Speaker 5: are we looking at any kind of a time frame
39:28
Speaker 5: yet or is it too way too early to get
39:29
Speaker 5: into that.
39:30
Speaker 14: So we've been working with Sellings architects who's been terrific
39:33
Speaker 14: in this process. We've been working hand in hand with
39:36
Speaker 14: them every day. And from what we're understanding is once
39:41
Speaker 14: everything is in place, once we have the keys to
39:43
Speaker 14: the building, they're looking at about eighteen months now. That's
39:46
Speaker 14: give or take a few minutes. Yeah, yeah, anything any
39:49
Speaker 14: based remodeled the bathroom noses. Sometimes it takes let alone
39:52
Speaker 14: the police headquarters.
39:53
Speaker 15: Right.
39:53
Speaker 5: Talk about the technology that this is going because you know, uh,
39:57
Speaker 5: this is going to afford you, I would imagine, and
40:00
Speaker 5: a whole lot more crime fighting skills and people's service
40:03
Speaker 5: skills based on technology alone in a new location.
40:07
Speaker 14: So I'll go back with seilings. They have built police
40:10
Speaker 14: stations before, so they know exactly what they're doing, they
40:13
Speaker 14: know the updated technology. So we're excited because this is
40:16
Speaker 14: going to be the most state of the art, largest
40:19
Speaker 14: police headquarters in the state of West Virginia. And that
40:22
Speaker 14: is so important for us operationally because it'll help us
40:26
Speaker 14: not only to build our officers morale and give them
40:30
Speaker 14: a nice environment to work in, but it'll help us
40:32
Speaker 14: fight crime and that's what we're here for.
40:35
Speaker 5: Do you hear the mayor right? I think Aaron caught
40:37
Speaker 5: up with their after city council meeting last night that
40:39
Speaker 5: you folks had looked at about sixteen different locations around
40:42
Speaker 5: the city, about fourteen fourteen fourteen okay, okay, fourteen different
40:46
Speaker 5: locations and this one was chosen an easy and easy out.
40:49
Speaker 5: Parking not an issue things of that nature.
40:51
Speaker 14: It has everything we need so far, just from the
40:53
Speaker 14: building itself on the shell of it has just about
40:56
Speaker 14: everything we need. Of course, it was an old data
40:58
Speaker 14: processing center, so we need some we need to do
41:01
Speaker 14: some renovations inside to make it make it exactly what
41:04
Speaker 14: we need. But uh, yeah, we're excited. We can't wait
41:08
Speaker 14: to get our hands.
41:09
Speaker 5: On before we let you go. I always like to
41:11
Speaker 5: give people in your position an opportunity to talk about
41:14
Speaker 5: things that are going on or what you're what you're
41:16
Speaker 5: working on, what's new in the world of police policing
41:19
Speaker 5: in Charleston. And on a serious note, last week was
41:22
Speaker 5: was a pretty deadly week in Charleston. We had a
41:25
Speaker 5: couple of murders last week. I know, emergency services were
41:27
Speaker 5: out in forced on a couple of other things not
41:29
Speaker 5: related to police. It never stops, does it. I mean,
41:32
Speaker 5: as far as you know the things that are up
41:34
Speaker 5: there right.
41:34
Speaker 14: You know, it actually has been a pretty calm summer overall.
41:37
Speaker 14: I don't want to drink that. Yeah, Unfortunately, last week
41:40
Speaker 14: was just a double whammy for us. And but you know,
41:43
Speaker 14: I have faith in our our detectives, have faith in
41:45
Speaker 14: our officers that they're going to go down to chase
41:47
Speaker 14: down those leads and figure it out pretty quick.
41:49

47:22
Speaker 5: a moment. I drove in on I sixty four, as
47:25
Speaker 5: I do every morning, around seven fifteen, seven thirty or so,
47:29
Speaker 5: and I thought the workers might be done with what
47:31
Speaker 5: they're doing on sixty four eastbound, and I guess it
47:34
Speaker 5: also affects westbound too around Mantros because they weren't working yesterday,
47:38
Speaker 5: but they are today. So just know that I thought
47:42
Speaker 5: yesterday the project may be wrapped up. I drove through
47:45
Speaker 5: there no issues in this morning. I was delayed about
47:47
Speaker 5: twenty or thirty minutes or so. It is the left
47:50
Speaker 5: lane though, at least as of when I came in
47:52
Speaker 5: around seven thirty, the left lane eastbound that was closed.
47:56
Speaker 5: And also I heard a traffic report just before I
47:58
Speaker 5: went on the air. I had a chance to follow up.
47:59
Speaker 5: There was another accident on sixty four, So just know
48:03
Speaker 5: it's going to be slow could be slow going. And
48:05
Speaker 5: you add a little bit of rain, and goodness knows
48:08
Speaker 5: we need the rain right now, but a little bit
48:09
Speaker 5: of rain that could add to it. As well, So
48:12
Speaker 5: just know that if you're heading into the city today.
48:16
Speaker 5: Some news headlines another guy, this one from Logan, Land
48:20
Speaker 5: of my origin, has been indicted for conspiracy to injure
48:24
Speaker 5: police and a few other charges, all related to January sixth.
48:27
Speaker 5: His name is Kevin Moore. The legal ease is he's
48:31
Speaker 5: charged with conspiring to injure an interfering with police through
48:37
Speaker 5: other charges as well. The big charge though, is a felony.
48:40
Speaker 5: He is charged, as I said, with other misdemeanors including
48:43
Speaker 5: entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds, disorderly
48:47
Speaker 5: or disruptive conduct in a restricted area, disorderly conducting a
48:50
Speaker 5: capitol building, and parading, demonstrating or picketing in a capital building. Now,
48:56
Speaker 5: Kevin Moore turned himself in yesterday. All these charges are
49:00
Speaker 5: of course based out of d C. Turned himself in
49:02
Speaker 5: in Logan County, but the charges are based out of
49:05
Speaker 5: d C. Now another guy with ties to that part
49:08
Speaker 5: of the world, although he actually lived in Tennessee. His
49:11
Speaker 5: name is Bart Gore. He's being charged for similar stuff
49:14
Speaker 5: as well. At one point the second gentleman, Gore is
49:18
Speaker 5: led to have said, quote, I say we go for
49:20
Speaker 5: the head of the Snake, the FBI, the CIA, Obama, Clinton,
49:24
Speaker 5: bar and anyone else, because I don't want to live
49:27
Speaker 5: in a communist country. End quote. But wait, it gets better.
49:33
Speaker 5: And one of the messages, Gore says, quote, I'd love
49:36
Speaker 5: to be able to capture Obama or Hillary. I'd strip
49:39
Speaker 5: them naked and beat them with a belt and a switch.
49:42
Speaker 5: Then I'd rest, and then I would beat them some more.
49:46
Speaker 5: He seems nice, He seems nice. He also asked for
49:50
Speaker 5: Nancy Pelosi's head to be brought out on a stick.
49:54
Speaker 5: Good reading. I read it this morning, if you can
49:57
Speaker 5: get past all the misspellings and typos. So anyway, we'll
50:02
Speaker 5: keep you updated on that situation as it. But they're
50:05
Speaker 5: just peaceful, just peaceful protesters. And look some of them
50:08
Speaker 5: that were there in January sixth. I know people that
50:10
Speaker 5: were peaceful protesters. They protested for some reason or another.
50:12
Speaker 5: I don't know why they turned around went home. No
50:15
Speaker 5: issue with those people at all. But when you and again,
50:17
Speaker 5: if you're going to make threats like that towards the
50:18
Speaker 5: government geniuses, how about you don't do it in Facebook messenger?
50:21
Speaker 5: How about you don't do it via text? Just same,
50:26
Speaker 5: just saying moving on this problem with threats at schools.
50:32
Speaker 5: The latest tally from law enforcement is a total of
50:35
Speaker 5: one hundred and thirty eight threats were made last week
50:39
Speaker 5: through yesterday. And this is all in West Virginia, of course,
50:42
Speaker 5: sixty nine different schools and thirty three different counties. Now. Yesterday,
50:48
Speaker 5: two more middle school students were charged here in Kanawha County.
50:51
Speaker 5: Jeff Jenkins has a story posted about it at wv
50:54
Speaker 5: metro news dot com. And again, as I mentioned earlier,
50:57
Speaker 5: I want to make sure everybody knows about this. On
50:59
Speaker 5: tomorrow's show. I'm gonna have been studio with me the
51:02
Speaker 5: canaw County Prosecutor Deb Rusnick, but I'm also going to
51:05
Speaker 5: have from Homeland Security Rob Cunningham. The two of them
51:08
Speaker 5: are going to sit down with me together on tomorrow's show,
51:12
Speaker 5: and we are going to get into talking about this
51:15
Speaker 5: tomorrow and how do we rectify this situation? All right?
51:22
Speaker 5: And you know, we had a text of the show
51:24
Speaker 5: yesterday and I didn't get a chance to get to
51:26
Speaker 5: it about this sort of thing, and it said that
51:29
Speaker 5: it's not this texture said it's not a social media issue,
51:32
Speaker 5: it's not a school issue, it's a parenting issue. I
51:36
Speaker 5: would tend to agree with that. And if you heard
51:41
Speaker 5: some of the comments to the press previously by Prosecutor Rosnick,
51:45
Speaker 5: the threats don't have to be even credible, they don't
51:49
Speaker 5: even have to be believable for these kids to be charged.
51:53
Speaker 5: So mommy's daddies, grandparents, guardians, whoever is in charge of
51:57
Speaker 5: the kids, you may want to sit down and tell
51:59
Speaker 5: them if you do this, even in jest, you're gonna
52:02
Speaker 5: get in a lot of trouble. Does it matter, Oh,
52:04
Speaker 5: it was just a joke or whatever. You're going away,
52:07
Speaker 5: and you're gonna go away for a long time. Bust
52:10
Speaker 5: those butts, and if you have to take the parents
52:13
Speaker 5: and grandparents too, Tex says regarding the January sixth, Good morning,
52:17
Speaker 5: Derek Evans. I don't know, all right, we gotta go
