- 0:06Hello, what's your least favorite scary movie?
- 0:11You messed with the wrong family.
- 0:14Well, what's your least favorite scary movie?
- 0:15The podcast where we talk about the good, the bad, the ugly and
- 0:18the absurd and all of our. Favorite and least favorite
- 0:20scary movies? Because we believe every horror
- 0:21movie rightfully has this fan base.
- 0:23Even if we don't always get it. My name is Travis.
- 0:25My name is Jesse and welcome back to We're welcome back to
- 0:29Texas. We're welcome.
- 0:32You're welcome. All are welcome to Texas, except
- 0:35that I don't know if that's true.
- 0:37I don't like. That's true.
- 0:38Yeah. Sometimes to Texas, maybe.
- 0:40Yeah, it doesn't matter. We're there anyways.
- 0:42We're going back to Texas because we have to talk about a
- 0:45movie this week. Yeah, this is the whole show.
- 0:49We have to yes, the. Whole show is.
- 0:51Yes, but this is one that's had a dreaded build up.
- 0:55Yeah, we've been we've been talking about it for months at
- 0:58this point. And you know, we've we've not
- 1:00exactly been the most excited to talk about it, but God damn it,
- 1:03we gonna talk about it. We'll talk about it.
- 1:05And that movie would, in fact, if you didn't pay attention to
- 1:07the name of the episode you liked.
- 1:08That's weird. Please tell me how you make your
- 1:11choices. Could be autoplay, it happens to
- 1:13me all the time. That is fair.
- 1:14That is fair welcome if that's the case, which?
- 1:16Means you're probably subscribed to us.
- 1:18Thank you. Or the algorithm is fine like
- 1:20hey these guys. Check them out.
- 1:22We're talking about Leatherface today.
- 1:23Yeah, 2017 Leatherface. Yeah.
- 1:25Everybody needs to hear about that.
- 1:27OK. I don't have any announcements
- 1:28today. I would like to hear some poll
- 1:31results from you though. OK if.
- 1:33You could if you would. Yeah, we did one for the last
- 1:36week movie I can't Fucking talk today.
- 1:39Wow, look okay, it's 11:48 AM over here.
- 1:43I am on my second cup of coffee. I have no excuses.
- 1:46I was trying to come up with some but I've got nothing.
- 1:49Saying more and more things that doesn't excuse.
- 1:51I got a great amount of sleep, I've got 2 cups of caffeine and
- 1:55I am doing terrible. What do you expect from?
- 1:58This I know. OK, well, OK, I got.
- 2:01I do. God damn it.
- 2:03I do have poll results. OK, I've got.
- 2:06All of this is stinging in. Yeah, OK, You guys know the real
- 2:09Travis? No, no, no fancy edits to Get Me
- 2:11Out of this jam. OK, so we talked about sinners
- 2:15last week on the show, and we wanted to know what's your fate?
- 2:19So we had three options. We had dead undead or boys of
- 2:24legend, and everybody's undead. Everybody voted undead.
- 2:28Everybody wants to be a vampire. Everybody wants to be a vampire.
- 2:30Just like we talked about in the movie, Vampires are, I mean,
- 2:33kind of awesome. They got great abilities.
- 2:37I'm jealous of them. You.
- 2:38Can't be out in the sunlight though, so.
- 2:40That's a lot, but who needs that?
- 2:42And also you're like sharing the space with a demon inside of
- 2:45you. I'm sorry but I I've watched up
- 2:49to season 3 almost to season 4 of Buffy and I've seen.
- 2:54Season 3. I've I've seen Spike with his
- 2:56car in the daytime. I he he gets around.
- 3:00People can get around. You just got to be creative.
- 3:03OK? I would be on that too.
- 3:04I mean, I I want to be, I want to be a vampire.
- 3:08I would like to be. It'd be fun.
- 3:11I'm vegan, vampirism will be tricky for me.
- 3:16Twilight. They still drink animal blood.
- 3:19They do. You're right.
- 3:21There's just no good way for you to be a vampire.
- 3:23You're right. I'm sorry, baby.
- 3:24I got to leave. You.
- 3:25Wow. You would just choose to stand
- 3:27dead? Well man, you wouldn't dead with
- 3:29me. I'm Edward.
- 3:30In this situation you can't be a vampire.
- 3:33It's an exclusive club and you're just not allowed.
- 3:36That's really why Edward wouldn't change, fella.
- 3:38He really she was. Cool enough?
- 3:40At the heart of the matter, that was what it was.
- 3:42God does. Lose You're from Arizona.
- 3:45Yeah, this fucking. All right, let's I felt
- 3:48Leatherface because that's what you guys came here.
- 3:49Today, yeah, not. Twilight that's.
- 3:51True, that's true. OK, Leatherface, I don't there
- 3:56isn't really like a single solid premiere date.
- 4:00So the very first time that it played on TV on TV in yeah, this
- 4:05is a straight to TV. Is it really?
- 4:07Yes. What?
- 4:08We'll get to it, but its first premiere was the Fright Fest
- 4:12channel premiere in the UK on August 25th, 2017.
- 4:17That explains the opening title. With the DIRECTV, 'cause I made
- 4:20a note, I was like DIRECTV. Like how did they play into
- 4:23this? We watched it on Peacock 'cause
- 4:26this is one of the two that we don't own.
- 4:29The other one's the Netflix 1. So just a heads up, that's where
- 4:33you'll watch next month. You'll have to no choice.
- 4:36But it is also streaming on Sling TV, Prime, YouTube and
- 4:40YouTube TV. You can rent it from Google TV,
- 4:43Apple TV or Fandango at home. Written by Seth I'm Sherwood.
- 4:47Based on characters by Toby Hoover and Kim Hinkle.
- 4:50Directed by Alexander Bastille and Julianne Maury.
- 4:55Music by Jon Frenzel. Special effects makeup by
- 4:58Olivier Afonso, Nicholas Herwin, Cyril Apoe and Pierre Emmanuel
- 5:05Kass. Sorry, they're.
- 5:07So they ditched K&B. Yes.
- 5:10Man, but they were so on board with this franchise.
- 5:13I got so much information that's going to blow your mind.
- 5:15When we get to that part. Starring Steven Dorf is Hal
- 5:20Hartman, Lily Taylor as Vernon, Sam Strike as Jackson, Vanessa
- 5:24Grass is Lizzie, Finn Jones as Deputy Sorrels, Sam Coleman is
- 5:29Bud James Blur is Ike, and Jessica Madsen as Clarice
- 5:32Travis. Time for our favorite game
- 5:34budget, Oh Button. Going bug, Ted.
- 5:41Yeah, I don't even have a number for it.
- 5:43You don't. I don't have a number for.
- 5:44It wow, that's surprising. It did have a worldwide gross of
- 5:471.4 million and has an IMDb score of 5.0 out of 10.
- 5:51I had no idea this movie had the troubles it had.
- 5:55Yeah, yeah, there's something I'm going to tell you that's
- 5:58going to really blow your mind enough that you probably got in
- 6:01a bit. I'm so excited to hear.
- 6:04OK, I pulled 3 movies from 2017. I know we just talked about 2017
- 6:08last week with our two year not to be.
- 6:11We did it, yeah. So I was trying to pick
- 6:13different movies and I kind of came up with the theme of rough
- 6:17childhoods. OK.
- 6:19Yeah, that fits. Yeah, it fits.
- 6:21So the first time it chapter 1. Yep, that fits too.
- 6:25Came out September 8th, 2017 with a $35 million budget and a
- 6:30$704 million gross. Yeah, that was a seven movie.
- 6:34Yeah, it was a. Good one.
- 6:36It was good time. 7.3 out of 10 on IMDb.
- 6:39So the masters agree. Yeah, that checks. 2nd movie
- 6:43Tragedy Girls. Yeah.
- 6:46I mean, they're kind of the ones making their childhoods rough.
- 6:49I think the person I feel the most sorry for is Jack Wade.
- 6:54Didn't he lose like like that? Yeah, he and he found out.
- 7:01Yeah, I think he's the rough childhood in that movie.
- 7:03They they have rough childhoods, but they're also just rough
- 7:06people too. Sorry if that was a spoiler, but
- 7:08that movie's been out for a while, eight years, and we've
- 7:11covered it on the show, so. That's true.
- 7:12Yeah, Sorry. Maybe I'll remember to leaf it
- 7:15out. Yeah, OK.
- 7:17That premiered October 20th, 2017.
- 7:21I don't have a budget. Worldwide grows for 122,006
- 7:24Point O out of 10 on IMDb. All right, people dig it.
- 7:28Third movie. This is in flashbacks.
- 7:32OK, Gerald's Game. OK.
- 7:36She had some fucked up shit happen to her as a child.
- 7:40We've only watched that one time.
- 7:41I don't remember. I only remember The Night Man or
- 7:44whatever they called him. It was bad.
- 7:47That's a good movie. Yeah.
- 7:49Anytime I talk bad about Mike Flanagan, I'm always like, but I
- 7:51like that movie that happens, that happens the most times I
- 7:54talk bad about like, they did some good shit.
- 7:57Yeah, Well, he's. Done a lot of stuff, so it's
- 7:59just it's more of which of his things appeal to your taste.
- 8:03That's fair, yeah. That released Gerald's Game that
- 8:06is released September 29th 2017 and that was a Netflix movie I'm
- 8:10pretty sure so I don't have box office information for it but I
- 8:14can tell you it has a 6.56 point. 5 out of 10 on IMDb.
- 8:18OK, that's good too. Yeah.
- 8:20All right, I have some tag lines.
- 8:23All right, witness the beginning of your end.
- 8:28That's not too bad. It's OK.
- 8:30That's OK. Yeah, it's OK.
- 8:31Meet the world's most ruthless serial killer.
- 8:35OK, I don't like this one because this is a prequel.
- 8:39The legend lives on. No that.
- 8:43Doesn't work this at all. It doesn't make sense, no.
- 8:46That's terrible. And finally, the monster lies
- 8:49within. OK, that's more appropriate for
- 8:53what we're talking about here. I've already written down my
- 8:56tagline suggestion from last. Night.
- 8:58You were so excited about it. Yeah, we'll keep it to the end
- 9:00of the episode, but I think it's perfect.
- 9:02OK so I had my suspicions before I even got to the filming
- 9:09location because a lot of this cast is European.
- 9:13Like a lot of them have roles in Bergeron and Game of Thrones.
- 9:18OK. And also based on the directors
- 9:22names I was like, I feel like this is not filmed in the US.
- 9:26Oh hold on, I think the director is the guy that filmed inside
- 9:30Spider Man. Completely different directions.
- 9:38Wait, what movie did you say? Inside.
- 9:46I don't even know what movie that.
- 9:48Oh, in that movie, yeah. No.
- 9:51Chick St. Hold on, hold on.
- 9:52We got 2 directors here. OK, OK.
- 9:59He did do inside Spider Man. Oh, I was so wrong.
- 10:02It was not. It's not a spider man.
- 10:07He's not even near spider one of us.
- 10:13Like I think there was a dude that had some like dealings with
- 10:16spider man that like, hold on, was it the rider?
- 10:19I got to check the shit out. Hold on a second.
- 10:21I I swear to God. Oh my God.
- 10:24There's no spider man to be found.
- 10:27This is all very European. You're so right.
- 10:30OK, okay, fuck this. I know nothing of this movie I
- 10:34guess. Good Lord.
- 10:40Oh shit. Okay, sorry, proceed.
- 10:45This is filmed in Bulgaria. Okay, Bulgaria.
- 10:48Okay. It was the first of the Texas
- 10:52Chainsaw movies to ever be filmed outside of the United
- 10:55States, and the third not filmed in Texas.
- 10:58OK. Yeah, OK.
- 11:01Wow, you really took the punch out of that review.
- 11:04I'm so sorry. It shot through May and June of
- 11:092015, so initially there was a sequel for the 3D movie planned
- 11:14with director John Lucenshop, but it never got greenlit.
- 11:19OK, so they couldn't go forward with it.
- 11:22And Sam Sherwood, notably not a spider with Spider Man fame,
- 11:29pitched. He pitched a, he pitched A
- 11:31prequel idea. Basically.
- 11:34He, much like myself, was very fed up of all of these different
- 11:39branching timelines. And he was like, I want to do
- 11:42something that's a prequel so I don't have to deal with it.
- 11:44Here's how you watch it in chronological order.
- 11:46You watch Leatherface, then you watch The Texas Chainsaw
- 11:49Massacre, then you watch Texas Chainsaw 3D.
- 11:51Those are the only Canon movies for him.
- 11:54OK, yeah, because like, this movie definitely does play into
- 11:56that Canon with a Texas Chainsaw 3D.
- 11:59Definitely. Yeah.
- 12:00All right, We got some consistency.
- 12:01Yeah. So we we know that timeline now.
- 12:03Well, this is incredible. This is actually probably the
- 12:05first time we've wait. Never mind.
- 12:07No, the beginning we had like a direct sequel or like a direct
- 12:10timeline like discussion like from point A to point B is.
- 12:14Still in the same planned exactly like this.
- 12:16So that's how you can watch these movies jump all around in
- 12:19terms of like decades, but it's fine.
- 12:21OK. Yeah, yeah.
- 12:24And so because of that, he's got some interesting stuff in here,
- 12:26but the one I thought was the most fun was that how Hartman is
- 12:29meant to be the father of the Dick Cole Mayor Burt Hartman in
- 12:333D. Didn't make that connection.
- 12:36Yeah, so that's why he's got extra like, angry towards the.
- 12:42Yeah, that makes sense. I also, so as we discussed this
- 12:49was we had a DIRECTV logo when we came on the screen.
- 12:53Yeah, there was, this was filmed in 2015, as I've already said,
- 12:58didn't come out till 2017. Basically Millennium Films and
- 13:03Lionsgate kind of fucked up releasing it.
- 13:05And because they took so long and sat on it, they lost their
- 13:08rights to future Texas Chainsaw movies, which is why the next
- 13:13one came out on Netflix. Damn, so how do you fucking drop
- 13:16the ball like that just to release the movie?
- 13:19Yeah, they did want everything to be practical as much as they
- 13:22possibly could, which is why a huge chunk of their budget, we
- 13:26don't know the amount, but a huge chunk of the budget was
- 13:29used on that fake cow that they hide in.
- 13:31Really. Yeah, wow.
- 13:33You know, yeah, I don't think this movie had a huge budget,
- 13:35but it had money and we say it looked good.
- 13:38Yeah, yeah, that's, that's pretty much the depth of my fun
- 13:43facts. OK.
- 13:44I think it sheds light on some things so.
- 13:46Yeah, well, that's interesting. I, you know, like I, I know a
- 13:50lot of these franchises, like especially the Hellraiser one,
- 13:52they just kind of pumped them out just to retain the rights.
- 13:55So I'm kind of shocked that they fucked it up that bad of a Texas
- 13:58Chainsaw. Yeah, I actually just read last
- 14:00night that Texas Chainsaw rights have went over to 824 and
- 14:06they've already got the person that did.
- 14:07Strange Darling is going to be doing that in the next one.
- 14:10OK, yeah, we haven't seen a movie yet, but it's on our list.
- 14:13We've been meaning to watch it, but that could be exciting.
- 14:18Yeah. OK.
- 14:19All right, we'll see what happens.
- 14:21OK, all that's done out of the way.
- 14:25Yes, now we talk about it our own thoughts, opinions and
- 14:28experiences. Good, bad, ugly, and.
- 14:29Absurd. And if you haven't listened to
- 14:31like, our past discussions of this, maybe you are listening to
- 14:35our podcast episodes in chronological order of the
- 14:39movies. They're starting here.
- 14:40Yeah, you haven't started listening to any of the Texas
- 14:43Chainsaw movies yet, and you're like, what's up?
- 14:46Well, we attempted to watch this last year and it took us three
- 14:49tries to get through because we kept falling asleep.
- 14:51Yep. So.
- 14:53And I couldn't have told you much about this movie before
- 14:56last night and I so that's why we had that hesitation coming in
- 15:02cuz we haven't had a good first 3 viewing experience.
- 15:06Yeah, to be honest, it almost felt like a first time watched
- 15:09last night because just wasn't into it the last time we
- 15:13watched. And honestly, this is one of
- 15:15those movies that, like taking notes, forced me to pay more
- 15:19attention to it, so I I don't know if I would have been as
- 15:24focused last night if we just had it on casually.
- 15:26Yeah, I feel the same. So but that's that's our
- 15:30background coming from this, and we're gonna discuss this with
- 15:33open minds. If you love this movie, we're
- 15:37not trying to shit on it. This is it could just
- 15:40potentially be a case of like different audiences.
- 15:42No, I've got good things to say. I do have good things to say
- 15:45too. Yeah.
- 15:46And yeah, we're, we're not gonna just like.
- 15:49That's the point of this whole. Show.
- 15:51Yeah, we're talking about like. All the good things, all the bad
- 15:53things we're we're trying to look at every angle of.
- 15:56It it's just usually there's not both of us going man, so.
- 16:00Yeah. OK.
- 16:01Well then let's start off. Let's talk about some.
- 16:02Let's let's talk about. Positive.
- 16:04Yeah, I wanna. Be positive cuz it does have
- 16:06some really good good aspects to it.
- 16:09So right off the bat, I actually think that it it's a decent
- 16:14little like escape and on the run type story here.
- 16:18Like I mean, that's pretty much the entire story of the movie.
- 16:21It doesn't really have much story other than that, but I I
- 16:25do enjoy those types of movies. So, you know, I, I did enjoy
- 16:30like sticking around with this gang and just kind of like
- 16:32seeing them on the run, running from the cops, you know, like,
- 16:34that's always good. It's a good conflict to have for
- 16:36a movie. Yeah.
- 16:37And I like the way that this tied in previous side characters
- 16:41from yeah, the previous movies that we'd seen, because we were
- 16:44pointing some people out to me when we were watching.
- 16:46I was like, Oh my God, that's the person.
- 16:47Yeah, like young Nubbins had the face, had the facial marking.
- 16:51Yeah, you had Nubbins doing that, Farnsworth.
- 16:54Yeah, like the lawyer. I had no idea until you pointed
- 16:57and I was like, Oh my God. That is him.
- 16:59Cuz I was in there. I was going Farnsworth.
- 17:00I was like, I know that sounds familiar besides from Futurama
- 17:04and I was in there. I was like, Oh yeah, we do see
- 17:07him in 3D. Yeah.
- 17:08And we weighed the groundwork with the Carsons, which was
- 17:12cool. I think this also like watching
- 17:14this, we benefited from having just watched 3D, Yes.
- 17:17So like we were able to make these connections where you
- 17:21know, like if you're watching this for the first time, it
- 17:23might you probably. Forgot a lot of stuff.
- 17:25Yeah, which I definitely did and.
- 17:29I forgot Nubbins. His name was Nubbins.
- 17:31For the first little bit I was writing Future Hitchhiker I was.
- 17:33Just writing Hitchhiker. Yeah, I forgot Nubbins was his
- 17:35name too. We hadn't really referred to him
- 17:37as Nubbins since Part 2. Yeah, I think.
- 17:40And even then, that was kind of in memoriam.
- 17:43Yeah, it was. It was Bill Mosley just dragging
- 17:45his corpse around. Yeah.
- 17:47And, you know, the movie actually does have some solid
- 17:50effects. Like, they actually do a good
- 17:51job with all of that. So also, I like the Hardman
- 17:57character. I may be a tad bit biased
- 18:00because I love wretches gemstones and this is the rival
- 18:02preacher from that show. I can't.
- 18:04Remember his name in that, but I loved his character.
- 18:07He he almost played the exact same type of dude.
- 18:10Like he's a he's a fucking terrible guy in that show.
- 18:13He's a terrible guy in this movie too, and I don't know, I
- 18:16like that. I like this.
- 18:17I'm sorry, I don't think Hal Hartman is a member of sword and
- 18:22pistol or Cape and pistol or whatever the.
- 18:24He may be he may be, I don't know that he seems like he would
- 18:27fit right in I. Can switch my Cape too, yeah.
- 18:31You know, like he didn't challenge anybody to a double,
- 18:33so you might be right. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know.
- 18:34He's just straight up shooting. Yeah, executioner style.
- 18:38And I thought the acting overall was pretty solid in this movie
- 18:41too. I thought they did a good job.
- 18:43OK, Yeah. All right, that's it from a good
- 18:45What about you? I agree, I think that the
- 18:48effects were really good, especially like Jed's facial
- 18:51effects at the end. That was gnarly.
- 18:53They did a great. It made me uncomfortable.
- 18:56It was almost like he had a joker smile cut on his face.
- 18:58Yeah, yeah, that was, it was really gnarly.
- 19:01I thought the cinematography was really nice.
- 19:04I thought the location that they managed to scout, I wouldn't
- 19:07have guessed that it was Europe if I hadn't like been trying to
- 19:10look up the actors to figure out why they looked familiar to me.
- 19:13And I was like wow, lots of European based shows right here.
- 19:17Yeah, they definitely did make it feel authentic.
- 19:20Yeah. And I do think that the acting
- 19:23was all really solid, and yeah, I can't be mad at them trying to
- 19:28do something different with it, because that's the thing that
- 19:30we've been begging for. It's like a different kind of
- 19:33story, and this was a different kind of story.
- 19:36So I appreciated that. That was the thing I was
- 19:38thinking about last night too, Like at least we are getting
- 19:40some variety here, like we're mixing it up a tad.
- 19:43And I I do like a good like like a crime drama.
- 19:50Yeah, you were kind of like getting Pulp Fiction vibes last
- 19:53night whenever they were holding up the diner.
- 19:56You know, well, because it was kind of like that.
- 19:57It was. Pretty similar to that scene,
- 19:59yeah. Like they may have been taking
- 20:01it directly from that page, a little bit more violent.
- 20:06Yeah, I mean, they they weren't as focused on the robbing part.
- 20:09Yeah, it's more about like killing and getting the fuck out
- 20:12of there. Yeah, yeah.
- 20:13OK, bad. All right, bad.
- 20:16OK, so right out the gate, the thing that I just don't really
- 20:21like about this movie is it pretty much abandons the slasher
- 20:24sub genre. Yeah, which is, you know, kind
- 20:27of at the core what this franchise is.
- 20:30I mean, this is like one of the founding slasher movies.
- 20:33Yeah. You know, I mean, it's not the
- 20:34like I, I don't want to get into that debate with people cuz I
- 20:37know like, you know, Black Christmas, you can even go
- 20:39psycho, but like. Some people even say Nope, never
- 20:43mind. Some people say.
- 20:45Ignore me. Yeah, but people say.
- 20:46People do say. And it's just, it was a very
- 20:49important movie to building the groundwork for what the sub
- 20:53genre is going to be. And they just completely deviate
- 20:55from it. I don't really like, I
- 20:58appreciate doing something different, but like they almost
- 21:02try to like give us a little bit of that at the end and it's just
- 21:07like it's too little too late. It just wasn't really working
- 21:10for me. So I I was a little bit bummed
- 21:13with that. Yeah, it's and we're getting
- 21:15another Jedda dinosaur has a really awful, terrible, no good
- 21:20that day. Also, I fucking hate the name
- 21:22Jed. I fucking hate the name Jed.
- 21:24Stop making me call this man Jed.
- 21:25And they made me call him Jed and Jackson.
- 21:28Fuck that shit. Did you want it to be Bud and
- 21:30Bubba? I wanted.
- 21:32It bud and Bubba ultimate bubbies.
- 21:34See, The thing is they they could have done Bubba with the
- 21:36big guy, but they're like flip it like let's let's just like
- 21:40flip it horizontal. Let's make it bud instead.
- 21:42And they're like, fuck you Bubba.
- 21:44Make him Bubba. God damn you, it pisses me off
- 21:47so much. Travis does not acknowledge any.
- 21:50We have this fight in private too.
- 21:53How I will refer to him as Jen. You will not call and.
- 21:56Travis is like Bubba. It's Bubba or Leatherface.
- 21:59Yes, Bubba is his name. This is his Roman Empire.
- 22:02This. Is this is the hill I will die
- 22:05on? I also just didn't feel like we
- 22:08had like a in game established here, like they're on the run,
- 22:11but like to like they said to Mexico, but we know that's
- 22:14bullshit. But like, yeah, it's just like
- 22:16we didn't really have a clear direction.
- 22:18It's just like, OK, we're on the run and and it's just like,
- 22:20that's it, they're on the run. Yeah, and it all right.
- 22:25OK, hold on. I'll save that for when I talk.
- 22:26Oh, OK. Also I just, I don't like how
- 22:30they completely rewrote the character's origins even in
- 22:34Texas Chainsaw 3D, which is candid.
- 22:36This right here, Weatherface has like a mental disability just
- 22:41like the original movie. That one still is part of this
- 22:43right here. But they make him like he's
- 22:46normal developmentally, which, you know, like it's just not
- 22:50true to his character. Gentle language correction.
- 22:53I would say neurotypical instead of normal cuz it.
- 22:55Sorry. Yeah, you're right.
- 22:56Yeah, yeah. Neurotypical, Like he he's just,
- 23:01it's just you didn't have to do that.
- 23:03You didn't have to change. There wasn't anything wrong with
- 23:05him being like that. Like, so why try and make it?
- 23:08I feel like they did it for the sake of the fake out.
- 23:11Cuz I mean, and it's also part of the ostracization he feels
- 23:15from. Yeah, it's just like you didn't
- 23:19have to make that change. And I, I really do feel like
- 23:21they wanted to do it because they wanted to psych out the
- 23:23audience. And that's a terrible psych out.
- 23:26I don't want to see Leatherface be like this.
- 23:29This isn't Leatherface. It's just not how.
- 23:32That's not how his childhood would have been.
- 23:34I, I just, I know it and I don't know, it bummed me out that they
- 23:39felt like they had to do that. OK, Is that it?
- 23:43All right, That's a big part of my problem with this movie is
- 23:47that we don't get a chance to bond with the characters, and it
- 23:49feels like we're supposed to know who they are from previous
- 23:53movies, and it makes it really hard to root for them.
- 23:58And like you said, there's no end game.
- 24:00They're just escaping and going to Mexico.
- 24:03It doesn't seem like Bud and Jackson really like Isaac, so
- 24:06why are they with him? Why was this seemingly a whole
- 24:09plan since he was supposed to get a nurse as somebody to hold
- 24:13hot? It doesn't.
- 24:15It didn't make sense. It falls apart the second you
- 24:17start thinking about it. Yeah, I can query wanted to get
- 24:20to Mexico but they felt the need to kidnap two other inpatients.
- 24:24I just don't really understand the motive.
- 24:27And the whole thing with Texas Chainsaw is family, right?
- 24:33It is. It is Very fast and Furious
- 24:36coded that way. It is, although they did it
- 24:38first. They.
- 24:39Did they did. And it's just weird that Jackson
- 24:43seems to have no desire until his mom pops up and he's like,
- 24:48we're more attached to Bud than we are anything else.
- 24:52Yeah, you feel sympathy for him. Yeah.
- 24:54And then they kill him. Yeah.
- 24:56And I think the movie does something like when it does a
- 24:58chaotic scene, it does chaos really good.
- 25:01It adds a lot of different elements.
- 25:02So that way it's not just like we're throwing stuff at the
- 25:04screen that's not enough to keep the tension going the whole
- 25:07movie. And that was part of it because
- 25:10we've talked about this in the other movies, that it feels like
- 25:12once the chase starts, it feels like it just keeps going.
- 25:15And you don't get that same feeling with this.
- 25:17You haven't bonded with the characters.
- 25:20And it just. I was like, they throw you
- 25:23through a loop because like they set up the characters, but then
- 25:27they like, but now they're they basically do the thing where
- 25:30they take the cups and they just like rearrange.
- 25:31You're like, OK, which one's which now it's like, well, how
- 25:34am I going to be attached to these people if I don't know who
- 25:37who's who? Like I just have to assume and
- 25:39I'm just going to like, you're also misleading me.
- 25:42And it's again. It's also very confusing because
- 25:44it seems like Ike and Clarice and Jackson had this plan for
- 25:50busting out, but it was only circumstance because he doesn't
- 25:54seem to know that his mom was there, but she's the one who
- 25:57caused the alarm to sound. So it just immediately falls
- 26:02apart. Like, and that's what I thought.
- 26:04I remember from last year that it was a planned breakout.
- 26:06And as we were like writing stuff down, I'm like, well, why
- 26:07was he buddying up with Isaac? And then I was just like, oh,
- 26:10because this just doesn't make sense.
- 26:11Yeah, it doesn't. So.
- 26:15Yeah. I just, I have a really hard
- 26:18time feeling a connection to this movie because of those
- 26:21things. Yeah, that's fair.
- 26:22OK is that it for your bad? Yeah, so ugly.
- 26:28I just queries and Ike fucking on top of corpse of a person
- 26:34that hanged themself. Yeah, it's that was nasty as
- 26:38fuck it. Was gross it.
- 26:39Was really, really gross. That whole trailer was gross.
- 26:44They all like, stayed in there with a fucking rotting body.
- 26:47Yeah, it was there for months. That place has to smell.
- 26:50It's got to be full of flies and all kinds of nasty shit, which
- 26:54is gross. Yeah, so obviously our
- 27:00understanding of mental health has come a long way since then.
- 27:04I don't like the way things are portrayed and treated in this
- 27:08movie, which I'm not saying it's the movie's problem is that it's
- 27:12portraying it that way. It's like an ugly reflection of
- 27:14society at the time. Yeah.
- 27:16And honestly, that we're still working to get rid of some of
- 27:21those biases and stigmas and we've come a long way.
- 27:25I think you and I were actually having a more casual
- 27:27conversation about ECT last weekend and I was like, it's not
- 27:30like what they show in the movies anymore.
- 27:32Like it's done under only very certain circumstances.
- 27:34And also you're not like being tortured with it.
- 27:36Yeah, which they're definitely torturing and they seem to be
- 27:39having like pleasure with like. Torturing these people.
- 27:41Too like. They're Doctor Lang's a bastard.
- 27:44He's a bastard man, yeah. And that that just brings me to
- 27:48the general abuses of power that are present through this movie.
- 27:52You've got Verna, she is an abusive mother.
- 27:54She's caused like, I agree that the kids need to be taken away,
- 27:57but how Hartman, he is also a bastard man.
- 27:59And he is like, all right, we're going to just going to throw him
- 28:01in a hospital, say that we're protecting them from their
- 28:04families. But really, this is like a
- 28:06juvenile detention center pipeline to jail because that's
- 28:09where they want to send all of the kids when they turn 18 if
- 28:11they don't stay with Foster. Family, that's what I think it
- 28:14was. Jackson's like, yeah, like
- 28:15Harbin put like 90% of this whole population in here.
- 28:19Yeah, not meant to actually be helpful, just his own personal
- 28:24vengeance. Yeah, also Drayton for like he
- 28:27pushed Jed into the guy that he didn't want a chainsaw and he's
- 28:30like fucking dude and he just like shoved him into and shoved
- 28:32the chainsaw into him. Yeah, a lot.
- 28:35Drayton is also a bastard man. Yeah, so there's, there's a lot
- 28:38of bastard men in here, some bastard women.
- 28:41It's fine. It's not fine.
- 28:43It's Bastard. Bastard.
- 28:47OK, so absurd. Well, so right off the bat and
- 28:52we get Drayton and it's it's Jed's birthday and they bring
- 28:57out the cake and he's like, oh, let's get it.
- 28:59And he just, like, sticks his whole fucking hand in the cake.
- 29:02Got dirty, unwashed hands. This is just like, it reminded
- 29:07me of Scary Movie too, where like they're like my turn, my
- 29:09turn, and then the guy's like my turn.
- 29:11It's just like a whole hand and they're just mixing it up.
- 29:14Oh my God, Drayton, that cake was for Jed and you just went in
- 29:18there and you shoved your shitty hand in there and it is nasty
- 29:21now. No wonder Jed didn't want to
- 29:23come home. Yeah, who could blame the
- 29:26fucking kid? It's like, didn't get cake,
- 29:28forced to murder. Yeah, it was just like, good
- 29:31Lord, man, have some self-control.
- 29:34Those like stage parents or the sports parents who are like, all
- 29:37right, here's your birthday gift.
- 29:38It's a set of new like equipment.
- 29:40You're going to be the best on the team.
- 29:42I want to play. I want to dance.
- 29:43No like. It's like the kid from Halloween
- 29:462018. Yeah, it's one dance.
- 29:48His dad was generally support. He didn't understand it, but he
- 29:51was trying to understand it. Yeah.
- 29:52And then he died. Yeah.
- 29:54Yeah. It ended up not mattering
- 29:55unfortunately. OK, my obserd is that Lizzie is
- 29:59just the worst at running away. She's so bad at running away.
- 30:04And it sucks that she was the first person to try and run away
- 30:06from the house. She's terrible at it.
- 30:08She's so bad at it and like, I get some of them.
- 30:11It makes sense and like, OK, we're trying to hold like the
- 30:14death threat over her, but like once Clarice and Iker dead, why
- 30:17is she it? It's very flimsy that Jackson
- 30:21can convince her that Hartman's all that bad because at the end
- 30:26of the day, like he shot the Pit, it seems like he would be
- 30:29willing to accept her as a hostage based on his own diocese
- 30:35himself. I just it felt very flimsy.
- 30:38And then even opportunities were like Jackson is like trying to
- 30:41get her to run away. She just stands there and then,
- 30:45oh, now we're down to just Jackson and bud, you're going to
- 30:47wave down a cop car. Why wouldn't you just go solo?
- 30:50Like let if you don't want them to?
- 30:52You know what I mean? Like there are just so many
- 30:54things that she could have done to.
- 30:55I don't understand her motivation in this movie because
- 30:57again, we don't get to bond at the characters enough.
- 30:59Yeah, I don't really know if they knew themselves, honestly.
- 31:03It's just, yeah, what are we doing here?
- 31:06Like, I can understand, like, there are definitely some ways
- 31:09that you can make it where she feels like she can't run out,
- 31:12can't run away, can't try and reach out for help.
- 31:16But the only time she finally does it is when it's just her
- 31:19with Bud and Jackson. Yeah.
- 31:21And so. Yeah, it could have been.
- 31:26It could have been better. Yeah.
- 31:28And yeah, that girl, she's so, she's so bad.
- 31:31Run, Just run. Yeah.
- 31:32Oh man. OK, well, let's let's rate it.
- 31:38Let's give us some ratings. I I didn't hate it.
- 31:45I didn't hate it like I hated it the first time around because I
- 31:47actually sat down and gave a better chance this time, but I
- 31:51still it is still firmly in last place for me in this franchise.
- 31:56Yeah, I would give this like a 575.
- 31:59I'm gonna give it a 5. OK, it's it's above average for
- 32:03me. You know, it's not terrible.
- 32:05It's just I don't like it as a Texas Chainsaw movie.
- 32:08If it were a different movie, I would maybe feel differently,
- 32:11but even then it still has those problems that we talked about.
- 32:14Yeah, it just it, it doesn't create enough tension for me.
- 32:20Yeah, it's just not like the conflict's really lacking, I
- 32:23think. Yes, and you have to do
- 32:26something with a prequel that gives it stakes, because we
- 32:30already know. What happens?
- 32:32What happens? And even that twist about Jed
- 32:35being. Jackson.
- 32:37Yeah, Jackson being Jed like that still didn't feel like a
- 32:40dunk, dunk, dunk moment like I. Hated that it was just like him.
- 32:44Like why not make it fucking bud?
- 32:47Like that guy was like that was like they're like we want you to
- 32:50think it's going to be him. But no, like I mean right away,
- 32:53like you said, like they had Nubbin's scar.
- 32:57We knew it wasn't him. So like, why are you trying to
- 32:59throw us for a fucking loop if you're already just like,
- 33:01showing us who it is? Yeah, I just I where?
- 33:05Are you trying to throw us for a loop?
- 33:06I feel like they were. I feel like they were trying to
- 33:07make us. Everybody acts like it's A twist
- 33:09at the end, so. But they, I mean, they basically
- 33:13did that though, they're like they, they shifted the names
- 33:17around to try and confuse. Them and that's why they gave
- 33:19that kid Bud instead of Bubba. Like, yeah, we were supposed to
- 33:23go there, but I don't know. I just.
- 33:26Yeah. I and I did give it much more of
- 33:30a shot last night. I really did same.
- 33:32So and there are things that as we've discussed, there are
- 33:34things we like. So let's just go, let's go ahead
- 33:37and talk about it, see if we've talked ourselves into feeling
- 33:39better. OK, let's let's give it a shot.
- 33:42OK, we immediately start off with a DIRECTV logo.
- 33:44I'm sorry, I have to just bring it up again because I was, it
- 33:47immediately was like a smash in the face.
- 33:49I was like. What the fuck is happening here?
- 33:51DIRECTV, You guys are like, but how are you even going so?
- 33:55So we're at the Sawyer Farm, founded 1845.
- 33:59It's Judd's birthday, he blows out his candles and you know why
- 34:02everything goes to shit for him. Because I got an answer to that.
- 34:06We're starting immediately with the dinner scene.
- 34:09Oh no, I was going to say, because it took him two rests to
- 34:11blow out his candles. You're supposed to do it in one
- 34:13breath for your wish to come true.
- 34:14Really. Is that?
- 34:15Is that actually true? That's that's the birthday
- 34:21candle, Lord, I was always told. Never heard that.
- 34:23I just heard you got to blow it out.
- 34:25What about trick candles? And it's like.
- 34:27That's basically setting you for.
- 34:28Failures. Yeah, exactly.
- 34:29That's why trick candles are so devastating.
- 34:31That's terrible. Terrible.
- 34:33We are starting with a dinner scene though.
- 34:35Yes, it's Jeff's birthday, and Drayton ruins it by sticking his
- 34:40nasty hand in the cake. And then Verna says you know
- 34:43you're supposed to give the first piece to the thief.
- 34:49That's still bullshit. It's his birthday, he gets first
- 34:52piece. This family sucks.
- 34:54Yeah, again, maybe that's why Jackson was fine with the
- 34:58Mexican flag. I yeah, I think so.
- 35:00So the the the thief, he is accused of stealing their hogs
- 35:05and he has been tied up. He is bloody and he's like, I'm
- 35:07going to get out here. I'm a proof.
- 35:09I didn't steal your pigs because you don't have proof in the
- 35:11first place. Why the fuck would I want your
- 35:12pigs? And I'm going to tell everybody
- 35:15about your brood of psychos and murderers.
- 35:18And then Verna's like, no, you're not.
- 35:21Because it's Jed's birthday and he got a chainsaw as a gift.
- 35:24And now he's going to kill you. And the whole family is cheering
- 35:26him on. And he's like, I really just, I
- 35:29want to be an artist. I just want to make crafts.
- 35:32I just don't want to do bone craft.
- 35:34You guys kill. I will take the bones and the
- 35:37skins. And Drayton is not having any of
- 35:40that. So he just like they, he starts
- 35:42the chainsaw for him and shoves him into the thief, thief in
- 35:47quotation marks. And he cuts his leg, doesn't
- 35:50kill him, and everybody's cheering.
- 35:52Berna is pissed because he walks away without finishing the job
- 35:56and Grandpa, who's up and talking at this point in time,
- 35:59takes his chesty old sledgehammer just like he does
- 36:02with the beeves. Because he's the best dad.
- 36:04Yeah, he's the best. And it was nice to see Grandpa
- 36:08and make a solid blow. At some point in this franchise,
- 36:10I will I will give this movie props for.
- 36:12That it was nice to see him and not have to question if he's
- 36:15alive. Yeah, you know, like honestly.
- 36:17Yeah, you were like grandpa's talking.
- 36:19Yeah, she's like, hold on a second.
- 36:20We got we got movement because he doesn't even move on his own.
- 36:25Yeah, any of the other movies, he just sits there.
- 36:27Yeah, he just like kind of limply has the mellow of his
- 36:30hand. He's like, why?
- 36:31All right, so Texas 1955 we got a couple of teens driving down a
- 36:36dirt Rd. One of them is Betty, and she's
- 36:40maybe doing some stuff to her boyfriend's happy part.
- 36:43Trying and. They almost hit something in the
- 36:46middle of the road, so they swerve and they get out.
- 36:50And Travis and I both learned that we don't know what a cow
- 36:54looks like when you put the head on a small child.
- 36:57Because we were like pig no. It's so weird.
- 36:59It's a. Cow.
- 37:00It almost looked like a cow. It looked like a cow that had no
- 37:03no hair. Yeah, like probably a calf, like
- 37:06a baby cow. Probably, yeah.
- 37:08It's but it was just, it was just weird because you're like,
- 37:10oh man, I thought that was a cat.
- 37:11I thought that was a pig. It's definitely a cow.
- 37:13And I was like, shit, I wrote Pig too.
- 37:15Yeah, because like, I mean, you look at the face like that's not
- 37:17a snail. Like that's a fucking like cow.
- 37:20But also, I have to say, when Betty gets out to examine what
- 37:23happened and then Jeb pops up wearing that head and she goes,
- 37:28oh, it's just a kid. First of all, first of all,
- 37:30first of all, you're going to say just a kid if that kid is
- 37:33wearing a cow head. Second of all, you almost hit
- 37:35that kid. Yeah, and also.
- 37:37That's not the, that's the. That's what you say where you're
- 37:39like, oh, it's just a squirrel. Yeah, it's, it's also just like
- 37:44to really think about, in the grand scheme of things, a kid in
- 37:46the middle of the road just laying in the middle of the road
- 37:48wearing the head of a fucking cow.
- 37:50That's just like. That's not like it's.
- 37:52Not a just situation. That's not where you go.
- 37:54Oh, it's just this. But then again, this is Texas.
- 37:56I don't know how you all do your shit down there.
- 37:58Yeah, could be completely different.
- 38:00Texans. Tell us in the comments.
- 38:02Yeah, please. Do you all hang out in animal
- 38:04hens? This is just a thing, I mean it
- 38:06happens multiple times in this. Yeah, so she ends up following
- 38:12him through a field into the barn.
- 38:14Boyfriend reacts way too late. Like he just keeps saying,
- 38:16Betty, we're going to be late. Betty can't hear you.
- 38:19Betty is way far away in the field.
- 38:21Betty's gone. Yeah.
- 38:22Betty's giving us a butt shot because we got to get a.
- 38:25Butt shot. We got to get a butt shot and
- 38:27she follows him into the barn and falls through a hole and she
- 38:31is very terribly hurt. Drayton, I'm.
- 38:34Held or something? Yeah, Drayton is very happy that
- 38:37Jed did his job, lured him there and said OK, finish, push it up.
- 38:40Jed's still he likes to have the separation from the actual
- 38:44murder at this point, and so Nubbins is the one who ends up
- 38:48releasing an engine to fall on top of her.
- 38:51They had this whole thing rigged up.
- 38:53It's like trap, yeah. God I get why an engine makes
- 38:59more logical sense, but this movie doesn't make a lot of
- 39:01logical sense anyway so I wish they would have just gone full
- 39:04Acme and put an animal. Oh my I would have been fine
- 39:09with it. All right, so we now see cops
- 39:13and paramedics are on the scene. How Hartman didn't earn Matt and
- 39:16Sad Dad because we didn't even know that was his daughter.
- 39:19We just cut to him screaming. Yeah, that's true.
- 39:22I mean, you feel a little sympathy for him here at first
- 39:24because I mean, his daughter died, you know, Like it's, it's
- 39:27not good. And Drayton's over there being a
- 39:30little shit, and he's just kind of stirring up the.
- 39:32Shit. And he's like, well, you're an
- 39:34adult now, Drayton, so you're going to the gas chamber.
- 39:38And then Vernon flies up and she's like, why is Jed in my
- 39:40car? Take his, take the cuts off of
- 39:42him. You can't arrest him.
- 39:43And he's like, oh, I'm not arresting him.
- 39:46I'm taking him out of your custody because he's unsafe in
- 39:49your house. In fact, boys, go get any other
- 39:51minors that are in that house. Again, I thought this would be
- 39:54more meaningful. We see no other Sawyers in the
- 39:58hospital because it seems like Nubbins has been able to stay
- 40:00with Verna this whole time. Yeah, that's a good point.
- 40:04Yeah, apparently there's like a lot of people or incidents
- 40:07happening around the Sawyers and it's just a little too
- 40:11suspicious. So he's claiming that child
- 40:13endangerment. Yep, 10 years later, we have
- 40:17Doctor Lang explaining to our new nurse Lizzie, that there was
- 40:21a law passed which was meant to protect children who are in
- 40:24unsafe environments, so they were all taken from their home.
- 40:28Most of them were given new names to separate them from the
- 40:30stigma of whatever bad stuff was happening in their families.
- 40:34Some of them got fostered. The ones that were especially
- 40:37troubled, so to speak, wound up in the Gorman house.
- 40:41Which is where we are now. And it's assumed to be safer for
- 40:44everyone that they're there. He's saying that it's safer for
- 40:47the kids and it's safer for society at large.
- 40:49Again, this is stigmatization. And if he was actually doing
- 40:53doctor and shit and treating him, you know.
- 40:57Maybe, yeah, maybe we would have like, some good people here.
- 41:00I mean, we have good people here potentially just, you know, like
- 41:03get them back in society. And Lizzie is a new nurse.
- 41:07She is very excited. She specifically wants to work
- 41:09with this population. She's going to have a very rough
- 41:12first week. Yeah, she sits down with Bud and
- 41:16she tries to strike up a conversation with him, but he's
- 41:18not much of A talker. Jackson talks for him and as
- 41:22they're having a conversation, there's a little disturbance
- 41:26that occurs and it's Ike and another inpatient.
- 41:30They're they're having like a whole fucking confrontation.
- 41:33She has to go break it up and. And then Ike starts getting
- 41:36rough with her, so Bud intervenes.
- 41:37And then that's when a group of orderlies come in break
- 41:40everything up. They assumed that Bud and Ike
- 41:43were fighting when in fact Bud was just trying to protect
- 41:46Lizzie because she was kind to him.
- 41:47Yeah, and this is like Lizzie he she catches.
- 41:54What's her fucking name? Oh, Clarice.
- 41:56Clarice. Yeah.
- 41:57So Lizzie's shaken up. She goes to the bathroom, take a
- 41:59breather. She hears a commotion in one of
- 42:01the stalls. These stalls have toilets and
- 42:03bathtubs. Damn.
- 42:06Yeah. And she sees Clarice with.
- 42:10Just another random woman. She looks like Margaret Mcfoyle.
- 42:14Oh my God. So she's trying to shove, and
- 42:17this is how you know it's not Margaret Mcpoyle, because I'd
- 42:20probably be into this. Yeah, Margaret Mcpoyle would
- 42:22swallow the mouse. She just like, lick her lips
- 42:23like. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 42:26So she's trying to shove this baby mouse in this girl's face,
- 42:30and Lizzie breaks him up and says you're gonna get a warning.
- 42:34And Clarice's like, no, I'm Doctor Ling's favorite.
- 42:38It's bad. And then she tries to defend Bud
- 42:41to Doctor Lang. He says that they're both going
- 42:42to get that both Bud and Ike are going to get ECT for the day's
- 42:47disturbances. And she was like, no, Bud was
- 42:49just defending me. And he's like, I don't believe
- 42:52that for one second. And then Jackson is like, yeah,
- 42:55well, you also didn't believe that it was right for him to
- 42:58stand up to somebody who hurt his dog.
- 43:00And at that point in the movie, Talia spun around three times on
- 43:03the couch, looked away from the TV, didn't watch the rest.
- 43:06He's. Like this guy's bullshit.
- 43:07Yeah. Yeah, so like they he tried to
- 43:09take his dog away. So he bludgeoned his last foster
- 43:12family into a coma. Yeah.
- 43:16So Jackson is thinking Lizzie just for sticking up for them,
- 43:20and he fills her in on the Doctor Ling's Chamber of
- 43:25Horrors, as they call it, which is the.
- 43:27ECT Room. Yeah, yeah.
- 43:29And he's just like. He's like, I can't tell you all
- 43:31that goes in, but just maybe take a look tonight and see for
- 43:34yourself. Then Verna Carson and Barry
- 43:37Farnsworth come in, talk to Doctor Lang.
- 43:39She's with money now that she's a Carson.
- 43:43So she's hired this lawyer and they've got an injunction that's
- 43:47supposed to let her see her Jed. And he's like, the problem is
- 43:53that they all have new names. She goes, yeah, but you know who
- 43:55he is? He goes, yeah, but you're gonna
- 43:56have to get a court order for us to unlock those files because
- 44:00they're separate. Might wanna hurry because he'll
- 44:02be 18 soon. And then I'm gonna recommend
- 44:04that he goes straight to prison. So fucked.
- 44:06Up what little shit. It took her months to get that
- 44:09one too. So yeah, it's.
- 44:10Just it's just not gonna happen. So she storms off.
- 44:13She says she's going to the restroom.
- 44:16Of course, she's in there for a really long time.
- 44:18One of the orderlies is telling Farnsworth to go get her.
- 44:22He's like, that's the ladies restaurant.
- 44:26Yeah. And so he goes and he goes,
- 44:27fuck, she's gone. She has run into some like a
- 44:33nurse taking their keys and opens up into like the wing of
- 44:38the house is shouting for Jed causing a commotion.
- 44:43Meanwhile, while all of that's been happening, they have bud
- 44:46down in the ECT chamber. I really thought they were gonna
- 44:48shave his whole head, so I'm glad they only did the like
- 44:512010's edgy side shave. They did give him that, didn't
- 44:55they? Yeah.
- 44:57And it's just not going well. But it's now an emergency
- 45:01because they're calling all of the staff.
- 45:03It's like a code. Whatever.
- 45:04Yeah. So they've got an alarm, like a
- 45:06panic alarm and lights going off and everything, and it's kind of
- 45:10chaotic. The orderly, some of the
- 45:12orderlies grab Verna and take her out.
- 45:15Bud busts out of his chair and he beats an orderly to death,
- 45:20releases Isaac. Clarice chokes out Margaret
- 45:23Mcpoil with her braids and she says I know you were with Ike
- 45:27and he's mine. Just for looking at Ike's like
- 45:30this is what you get for looking at Ike like that.
- 45:32Again, this doesn't like sell me of their bond like it just.
- 45:39It's just two psychos, I. Don't understand why we're
- 45:41supposed to care about any of these people.
- 45:43I don't know if we're supposed to care about those two.
- 45:44I think they're supposed to be kind of like part of the
- 45:47villains. Yeah, I don't mean care as in
- 45:50root for them, I mean care as in yeah, them be relevant to the
- 45:54movie. Yeah, OK.
- 45:55Yeah. I wish we had seen more of the
- 45:59dynamics here before all of this.
- 46:01Like at least like a little like acknowledgement from Jackson and
- 46:05Ike, like, OK, like we're going to get out of here someday and
- 46:07you're. Coming with me, Yeah.
- 46:08Like they have like they're frenemies.
- 46:11Yeah, exactly. I wish we could have seen more
- 46:13of that, because as it is, I don't understand why they agreed
- 46:16to get in a car with him and agreed to get a hostage with him
- 46:19in the event that there's ever a chance to escape.
- 46:23Apparently because this wasn't planned.
- 46:25Exactly. Yeah, Bud has now made his way
- 46:28to Doctor Lang's office and confronts him and he just
- 46:31fucking beats the shit out of him.
- 46:33He takes his face and just like throws it through the window.
- 46:36Yeah, and just kind of like shakes him around in a little
- 46:39bit too. Yeah, I can Clarice have a
- 46:44quickie in the middle of all of the chaos.
- 46:46Yeah, they reunite and I think she blows him like in the middle
- 46:49of all the chaos because she just goes down there, Yeah.
- 46:52Lizzie and another nurse are trying to sneak out because the
- 46:55basement has a different way out.
- 46:58One of the patients jumps and attacks the nurse.
- 47:01Jackson attacks that guy and then he takes Lizzie outside
- 47:04with him, and then Clarice and Ike are already in a car.
- 47:08Jackson puts Lizzie in the trunk, hops in the back seat and
- 47:12they see Bud on the side of the road and pick him up too.
- 47:15And now they're just off. I just wish we had seen them
- 47:18like have a through the years montage at Gorman House over the
- 47:22past 10 years and see them like blood oath help each other out.
- 47:26We see they're falling out, but they still have like, I wish we
- 47:29had something that connects them more than animosity.
- 47:31Right here. I mean, he just like he takes
- 47:32them hostage, doesn't he? He doesn't even give them an
- 47:35option. It's like you guys are getting
- 47:36in the car, but they seem OK with it.
- 47:40Yeah, that's what I'm saying. It seems willing.
- 47:42Yeah, it's it's also, as we learn with Lizzie, she is not
- 47:45like she's not a difficult hostage.
- 47:49No, she is not. She is easy to maintenance.
- 47:52She has a low maintenance. Yeah, I like that shot of Bud.
- 47:55She's like walking down the sidewalk all casual, and she's
- 47:58like, get in, Bud. OK.
- 48:01And again, I think this is like what you said like it it would
- 48:06make more sense for Bud to be Jed or Bubba.
- 48:11Bubba. Thank you.
- 48:12But I feel like they were so focused on they had to make this
- 48:17like big reveal that they tried too hard to misdirect and it
- 48:23just ends up falling flat. Because I mean, this guy
- 48:25basically acts as him. Like I mean, this is like how a
- 48:29Leatherface, a young Leatherface would be.
- 48:31Leatherface loves a long walk after a murder spree.
- 48:34We have established that. He needs time to decompose.
- 48:38Yeah. He had some hard work in there.
- 48:40Yeah, he's got to let the adrenal glands, like, calm the
- 48:43fuck down. This movie doesn't even can
- 48:44touch on like the slaughterhouse or like.
- 48:47No. None of the cannibal should
- 48:50either. Yeah, like they have pigs like
- 48:53you. They feed the.
- 48:54Corpses to pigs. It's just like, did you even
- 48:57watch any of the fucking movies man?
- 49:00Come on he they probably only watched 3D.
- 49:02No, he watched the original, the 70.
- 49:05He's watched all of them actually.
- 49:06That's why he didn't like the all of the convoluted timelines.
- 49:10I don't really care for the cannibal storyline, just we're
- 49:14going to avoid that. Yeah.
- 49:15OK, so I guess their car breaks down.
- 49:18I don't fucking know. They stop and they just abandon
- 49:20it here and get some new quotes. Because I think they assume that
- 49:23they're going to be like that car will be reported missing and
- 49:26that's what they're going to be. It was Doctor Lang's is what I
- 49:29said, so I guess that makes sense.
- 49:31So they change into some different clothes, they start
- 49:34walking, they find a restaurant, and they're like, well, we need
- 49:38food and we need money. And Jackson's like, yeah, we
- 49:42don't have money, so how are we going to buy food?
- 49:43And they're like, just split up. Going quietly, Bud, You stay
- 49:46outside. Also before the Ike inquiry said
- 49:49like a little side dialogue and they reveal their intentions to
- 49:52kill. Them, yes.
- 49:53They're not going to keep these people around.
- 49:55Yeah. But she like adds even more
- 49:57questions as to why are they here?
- 50:00Yeah, they've gotten away from the hospital.
- 50:03Yeah, they don't need them anymore.
- 50:04And they're going to keep causing chaos wherever they go,
- 50:07so. It just doesn't make any sense.
- 50:09It really doesn't make any sense and he says that he wants to go
- 50:12see his mom. He's excited to see his mom.
- 50:15Yeah, which I who we don't know. She's in Austin, so I don't
- 50:18think it's the Sawyer. No, yeah.
- 50:20But yeah, it's just what? If it was the Carsons, What if
- 50:25it was the Carson? Older cousins.
- 50:27That could have made sense. Yeah, it would.
- 50:30It would tie us back into the hole.
- 50:32Go get all of the miners from the Sawyer's house.
- 50:35Somehow they still miss nubbins. Exactly.
- 50:37Yeah, they did. They completely miss Nubbins.
- 50:39Nubbins was one of the killers. He dropped the fucking ninja.
- 50:42Jesus. All right, so we're in the
- 50:45diner, OK? And it's going about as well as
- 50:49you would expect here. At first, Clarice and Ike are
- 50:53just like obnoxious teenagers in a diner.
- 50:56We've all seen them. Most of us have probably been
- 50:59them at some point. Not I've never been a fucking
- 51:02Ike. This guy is like stirring shit
- 51:04up with people like anybody who looks like what the fuck you
- 51:06going to do? He's like a fucking Bama boy
- 51:09here. What you going to?
- 51:10Do yeah. I mean, it's just they're up to
- 51:13no good. Lizzy is kind of making the
- 51:18waitress so a little suspicious because she is not eating her
- 51:21food and she looks fucking frightened.
- 51:24And Ike and Corey said, OK, let's, let's survey the crowd
- 51:29here, spot anybody that might have a gun.
- 51:32Yeah. And Corey notices the person
- 51:34sitting behind her has 1. So he's like, all right, we're
- 51:37gonna start a distraction. Yeah, it it this feels very much
- 51:43Pulp Fiction. Yeah, I was gonna say like
- 51:45Omagi. It does, Yeah.
- 51:49And, you know, like, I thought the distraction was going to be,
- 51:52like, an actual distraction to steal the gun, but no, like,
- 51:55they knock over a glass, get the waiter over there, and the
- 51:58waiter is like, OK, it's time for you guys to leave.
- 52:01And Chris is like, we ain't got no money.
- 52:04And then she just takes a knife and just steps.
- 52:06And at first the server just seems like fed up with it, but
- 52:08also not surprised. And then chaos reigns.
- 52:11Yeah, yeah, She grabs a steak knife, stabs the dude behind
- 52:14her. Jack or Ike gets the gun and he
- 52:18starts shooting up the place, killing.
- 52:20A bunch of people kills a lot of people, but not one of the
- 52:22people that was sitting up at the grill area who also has a
- 52:26gun so he starts trying to shoot back.
- 52:28Bud gets hit in the side and some of the crossfire.
- 52:31Yeah, and also Clarice grabbed a shotgun there too.
- 52:34Yeah, Clarice grabbed a shotgun. Lizzie tries to run.
- 52:37I can. Doesn't run the right direction
- 52:41because she runs right into Bud. I'm assuming she would know
- 52:44where Bud was at. Yeah, why was Bud just hanging
- 52:48outside? He wasn't allowed to come in
- 52:50because they thought he would be too noticeable like based on his
- 52:53description. OK.
- 52:54Because they said everybody's going to be looking for us with
- 52:56a big boy, yeah. Big boy Yeah, we'll just have
- 52:58you standing directly outside the.
- 53:00Restroom. Yeah, that won't be suspicious.
- 53:02Nobody will be uncomfortable with.
- 53:03That I would have loved to shout at him like at the window next
- 53:06to their table. Just like looking at them.
- 53:07He's just like, what the fuck is wrong with this guy?
- 53:11OK, yeah. And yeah, he gets clipped by the
- 53:13dude and they drive away in one of the car.
- 53:15Soon we see the cops arrive. It's Hartman.
- 53:18And he's asking that last survivor what he saw, who who it
- 53:22was. And he gives them a loose
- 53:24description. And it's pretty quick.
- 53:27As he's sitting there bleeding on the floor and I just assumed
- 53:30they'd never send an ambulance. I assume that he probably just
- 53:33shot him after he was done questioning him.
- 53:35He's like, all right, I'm done with the.
- 53:37I feel like I was like. Yeah.
- 53:40Happy, an honorary Ranger. Texas Walker.
- 53:46Yeah, so they've taken a car, they're driving out.
- 53:49They end up ditching it by the edge of the woods, presumably
- 53:52the same thing. And they walk through and find a
- 53:56trailer, which smells really bad.
- 53:59And they figure out it smells really bad because there is a
- 54:01hanged corpse, which is really sad for this man.
- 54:03He didn't even finish all of his moonshine.
- 54:06Yeah, it's sad. It's sad.
- 54:09Looks super fucking gross in there.
- 54:11Yeah. So they're like, all right,
- 54:12well, we're just gonna set up shop here for the night and just
- 54:15hide out. Liz tends to Bud's wound, which
- 54:19is basically just saying, all right, keep pressure on it.
- 54:23They don't even really do anything.
- 54:25I know they can't really do anything, but it's just like
- 54:27they had to like acknowledge that he had the wound and
- 54:30they're like, all right, we're not going to worry about this.
- 54:31For take the moonshine and pour it on.
- 54:33There, Yeah, yeah. Show us something that we
- 54:35expect. She's not even that kind of
- 54:37nurse. Yeah, it's a different type of
- 54:39nurse entirely. I think like all nurses get
- 54:42medical training regardless of what field they go into.
- 54:45Oh really? Or at least they do nowadays.
- 54:46No, OK, yeah, maybe not in the 50s, different time could be.
- 54:50But yeah, then I can a clear Acer having sex on a quartz
- 54:55doing the deeds for way too long a time.
- 54:58Yeah, and then he comes out to rehydrate his liquids with a
- 55:04it's gotta. Get that?
- 55:05Gamer in. Yeah.
- 55:07Electrolytes, sweatpants. Great.
- 55:09He's sweating like the red and the blue there.
- 55:11Yeah. He's been drinking.
- 55:13He's talking to Jackson and Lizzie's like, all right,
- 55:16Jackson. Lizzie's like, hey, that alcohol
- 55:19is going to mess with your meds and it's going to disrupt your
- 55:22treatment. And he goes, Jackson, do you
- 55:24realize that? She knows what your real name
- 55:25is. She knows where your foster
- 55:26families are that beat you. She knows where your real family
- 55:29is. Don't you want any of that?
- 55:30He goes, Bud's my real family now.
- 55:31Yeah. Also, she's like, yeah, they
- 55:33didn't tell me any of that stuff.
- 55:35Yeah, she's like, those are separate files, which we know is
- 55:37not her bullshitting because that was Doctor Lang's whole
- 55:39thing. Yeah.
- 55:40Although he could have been bullshitting.
- 55:42It's true, but it seems like the right kind of petty that I
- 55:47believed it. Yeah, I guess that's true.
- 55:49So Bud's on watch for the night while of the others sleep, and
- 55:53as Bud is on watch, Wizzy tries to run for it again.
- 55:56Yeah, she wakes in the night, and if you thought Bud was going
- 55:58to catch her again, you're wrong.
- 56:00This time it's Isaac, who we didn't hear moving around at
- 56:04all, but somehow he still manages to catch her.
- 56:06He's holding her up against the tree.
- 56:08Who knows what he's about to do, but then Bud comes and
- 56:10intervenes and then you know. Jackson tackles and they get
- 56:13into a little. Fist Oh, yeah, Jackson.
- 56:15Yeah, sorry, my bad. And he tells her to run.
- 56:18And she just stands there and waits for the police to get
- 56:21there with a shotgun so that way she can't run.
- 56:24And then Ike is just basically he's yelling at everybody's
- 56:27like, everybody go back to the trailer.
- 56:28And he's just so calm to Bud. He's like, Bud, you're a waste
- 56:32of space. And I can't for the life of me
- 56:33figure out why God bothered to create.
- 56:34You go back to watch. Yes.
- 56:38So cool. Casually devastating.
- 56:40But didn't take too kindly to it cuz he goes to go pee and then.
- 56:44He pees for a long time. This is the most realistic
- 56:46middle of the night pee I've ever witnessed in a movie.
- 56:50Yeah, and as he's peeing, Bud comes up behind him and just
- 56:54knocks him out with something. I don't even know what it was.
- 56:56It's like a walk, I guess. These.
- 56:58Guns. Guns, right?
- 57:00Here. And he takes him, drags him over
- 57:03to a log, puts his mouth. I thought it was a rock.
- 57:07Oh, it might have been a rock. I thought it was a log.
- 57:08But it could have been a rock, it could have been a log, but I
- 57:10just feel like a rock would give more.
- 57:13More stability to what he's about to do.
- 57:15Yeah, he inserts whatever this natural object is into his
- 57:19mouth. Inserts the earth into his mouth
- 57:22and then he curbs, thumbs him. Yes, and he falls asleep on his
- 57:25body. It's like this is a nice little
- 57:27pillow now again. This is why it would have made
- 57:30sense for it to for bud to be. I know because that is that is
- 57:35entirely Bubba codish it. Is Scott.
- 57:39And the warning, Clarice goes out looking for Ike.
- 57:42Jackson Falls because he's looking for Bud.
- 57:44And Lizzie's like, hey, let's just leave and Bud can look out
- 57:48for himself. Lizzie run bitch.
- 57:52Get the fuck out of there, now is the time.
- 57:55Why do you want Jacqueline took you hostage?
- 57:58Yeah, it's so fucking stupid. And also like, you're not
- 58:02endearing yourself to this person by saying let's leave the
- 58:05only person that I heard you describe as your family.
- 58:09Like she has no sense of self preservation.
- 58:12And this is where I start to lose like any any like rooting
- 58:16for her that I have because I'm like, OK, you just like you just
- 58:19want to be caught up in this at this.
- 58:20Point you like, she likes the drama.
- 58:21Yeah, this like it's way too soon for it to be Stockholm
- 58:24syndrome. Yeah, it is.
- 58:25Yeah, you're right. It's she met these kids like 24
- 58:29hours ago. She just started.
- 58:31You're right. She has like, she doesn't even
- 58:33really know these people. No, Yeah.
- 58:37So he wakes up, Bud. And they, they know that they
- 58:42need to stay away from Clarice. Basically, Soros finds Clarice
- 58:45in the woods and Hartman and the rest of the troops come up.
- 58:49And you know, like Soros is trying to say, like you need to
- 58:52just give him an answer because he will ask once and it won't be
- 58:55good. And Hartman comes up and proves
- 58:57that's true, hits her on the head and tells everybody to go
- 59:02get the dogs and fan out. They can't be too far.
- 59:05Yeah, and Clarice tries to make a run for it and she's running
- 59:08through the field. He like shoots her in the.
- 59:10Way yeah cuz she's out and caught cops that way you.
- 59:13Know warning the others. Yeah, and I assume not to warn
- 59:16the others, but because she never found out that Ike died,
- 59:18which again, this could have been such an interesting way to
- 59:22take the movies. Clarice finds Ike dead.
- 59:24She is unstable. And to see her like it become,
- 59:29they're trying to avoid the cops and they're trying to avoid
- 59:31Clarice. That could have been an.
- 59:32Interesting way to take this. But instead she gets shot by
- 59:36Hartman. He drags her over to the trailer
- 59:38as they shoot out the trailer and then when they look, look in
- 59:41there, find out nobody's there, and then he just shoots her in
- 59:43the head. Yep, just ask.
- 59:44Shoots her. She's not gonna cooperate.
- 59:46Which I mean, she was antagonizing him, but also he
- 59:50has almost single handedly filled that the Gorman.
- 59:53It's complicated. He's just.
- 59:55Complicated relationships and execution, yes.
- 59:57Yes. And that's why these are
- 59:58supposed to be separate entities, yes.
- 1:00:01Not one person is supposed to play God on people's lives.
- 1:00:05So the others are, they're making their run for it and they
- 1:00:08hear the dogs are now out and about and they come across a
- 1:00:12dead cow. And they, they must have before
- 1:00:17Star Wars even they just like took a page out of Star Wars and
- 1:00:21just like got inside the cow and just hides inside of it.
- 1:00:25This is a common misconception that Star Wars takes place in
- 1:00:27the future, but if you pay attention to the scrolling
- 1:00:29dialogue a long time ago in a Galaxy far, far away.
- 1:00:32So maybe they haven't seen the movie, but they've just heard
- 1:00:35tale of factual, factual events. Word gets around.
- 1:00:39Yeah, yeah. People talk.
- 1:00:45Man, we're fucking stupid. All right, you've got your two
- 1:00:52cups of coffee. I threw up the first half of my
- 1:00:54cup this morning so at least I have an excuse.
- 1:00:56That's a good balance, man. I'm dragging you down to my
- 1:01:00level right here. All right, So they crawl out and
- 1:01:04now and. This this is a shot that I feel
- 1:01:07like I've seen as like a thumbnail for the movie.
- 1:01:10I wish it was more of like a poster moment where you just see
- 1:01:13the eye poking out from the cut. And yeah, it's a cut shot.
- 1:01:16Yeah, it's. Like you were talking about poor
- 1:01:18good cinematography. Yeah, they climb out and they're
- 1:01:23just all kind of shell shocked. They walk and what, rinse their
- 1:01:29faces off in the Creek? Yeah.
- 1:01:31And they? That's not a Creek, that's a
- 1:01:34Creek. That's Creek.
- 1:01:35That's Creek. Yeah, they're walking in, they
- 1:01:37find a bridge which has a cop driving over it and Lizzie's
- 1:01:41like, OK, here's my chance, I'm going to wave down the cop.
- 1:01:43So they she gets the cops attention and starts running
- 1:01:46towards him. And now I also have to ask, why
- 1:01:50are Jackson and Bud so bad at running away?
- 1:01:52Because they didn't have to follow after her.
- 1:01:54They could have just gone the other way and Lizzie would have
- 1:01:56been dealing with the cops. You know what I mean?
- 1:01:57In fact, it's even worse than that.
- 1:01:59Bud goes ahead. What is Bud's plan here?
- 1:02:02He charges the cop. He takes a shot and then tackles
- 1:02:07the cop and then the cop shoots him in the head.
- 1:02:09What was his plan? What was the like?
- 1:02:11He could have just kept going away, Him and Jackson, I don't
- 1:02:15understand what the fuck happened here.
- 1:02:17They just needed to kill this character and that was the best
- 1:02:20that they could come up with. That's really all that matters
- 1:02:24or all it boils down to, I feel. Yeah, they just want everybody
- 1:02:27to be shocked because we were supposed to think that Bud was
- 1:02:29butt. Yeah, any Leatherface?
- 1:02:31Yeah, OK. So Lizzie takes the car as
- 1:02:35Jackson is beating the cop to death and he jumps in and he is
- 1:02:39like shouting at her, blaming her for running, blaming her for
- 1:02:43Bud's death. You're just like all of them.
- 1:02:45Yeah, and then Hartman is following and he shoots through
- 1:02:48the windshield, manages to shred the side of Jackson's face,
- 1:02:51goes. Right through his cheek, both
- 1:02:53sides. Yeah, it's bad.
- 1:02:55And the car crashes That night. Lizzie wakes up, she's cuffed in
- 1:03:00the back of Hartman's car and hears the radio going off.
- 1:03:02It's Sorrels. And she's like, hey, I'm Lizzie,
- 1:03:05I was taken hostage. I'm in the back of a car.
- 1:03:08And he says, what do you see? And she's like, I see an old
- 1:03:12barn, looks like it's ready to collapse.
- 1:03:13Sort of said perfect know exactly where that is.
- 1:03:16He sends troops out to that spot and he goes to Verna's.
- 1:03:19She talked to her because he is her man on the inside.
- 1:03:23We had a little snippet of this before where I think they were
- 1:03:25trying to make you think it was Farnsworth, because she's
- 1:03:28talking about it like before the breakout.
- 1:03:30Yeah, it's just like, OK, yes, yes, I'll pay you whatever.
- 1:03:33Yeah. And we see her on the phone a
- 1:03:35little bit later where she says, OK, OK, Just keep an eye out for
- 1:03:38Jed. Yeah, and that's why he says
- 1:03:40he's like, all right, I held up my end of the bargain.
- 1:03:42I told you where Jed is, you know, so you can go get him now.
- 1:03:45And she gives us some money. But then.
- 1:03:48She does the fucky thing though where she just like.
- 1:03:50Throws it, yeah. And Drayton comes out from
- 1:03:52behind and stabs not to death because he needs to get the
- 1:03:56Hannibal treatment and get eaten live by piggies.
- 1:03:59Yeah, just toss into the pigpen and he gets gobbled up.
- 1:04:03Well, at first cuz she she like tosses the money Drayton stabs
- 1:04:06and she says pigs. And I thought she was just like
- 1:04:09talking about cops in general. I thought so too.
- 1:04:11I like, I really didn't question it.
- 1:04:12And then I saw him being dragged to the pigs and I was like, oh,
- 1:04:15that was an order. I I just still don't understand
- 1:04:17like OK, they're supposed to be cannibals.
- 1:04:20Like why are we doing the pig thing?
- 1:04:22It just it didn't make any. Sense.
- 1:04:23Yeah, all right. It's.
- 1:04:25This movie abandons the roots of like everything that was
- 1:04:28established before. Yeah.
- 1:04:29And whatever reason, one very egregious one, which I will
- 1:04:31bring up at the end, yeah. So we now see at the barn, we
- 1:04:37have Hartman there, he has Jackson, or as he reveals now,
- 1:04:41that's Jed tied up and he's hung up and he's about to drop him
- 1:04:46into the pit that his daughter fell.
- 1:04:48In and he's got Lizzie tied up too not entirely sure what the
- 1:04:51plan is for her Verna comes in and his whole thing the whole
- 1:04:54time with Verna has been you take mine I'm going to take all
- 1:04:57of yours right so he tells Verna when she walks in that first of
- 1:05:01all send your kids out here cuz I know I saw your just don't
- 1:05:04travel alone he goes I have here your son nephew which is it
- 1:05:08which was my question earlier in the movie he said maybe both and
- 1:05:11then he said maybe both and I was.
- 1:05:13Like could be. Could be, could be.
- 1:05:16So yeah, he's a he doesn't know. He doesn't know that the others
- 1:05:20are there and they kind of come out from the shadows.
- 1:05:23They emerge. He knew that some more were
- 1:05:25there. I don't think she revealed how
- 1:05:27many came with her. Yeah, he's cornered like all
- 1:05:29around. Here, Yeah.
- 1:05:30So he gets whacked, they pulled Jed up from the hole and then we
- 1:05:36cut back to the Sawyer farm and she is sewn up his face and then
- 1:05:42she puts horse reins on him. Yeah, it's like.
- 1:05:46Says it'll hold it in place. Supposed to be like a little.
- 1:05:49It reminded me of the mask from the new beginning that Weather
- 1:05:53Face has. Except that one was like more
- 1:05:55solid. But the new beginning, the
- 1:05:57beginning. Yeah, Yeah, it was.
- 1:05:58It was more solid. Yeah, I did.
- 1:06:00I don't know. I guess she was like, this will
- 1:06:01heal you. I don't know.
- 1:06:03She's, no, she's saying that it'll hold it in place until,
- 1:06:05like, the skin starts to stitch itself together.
- 1:06:08Basically like the stitches itself wasn't going to hold his
- 1:06:10jaw up. Yeah, his jaw presumably got
- 1:06:13broken too, which is why he can't talk super well.
- 1:06:16And also, his face probably really fucking hurts.
- 1:06:19I guess that makes sense. So Lizzie wakes up in the house.
- 1:06:24Yeah, and we know it's the house because there's chicken feathers
- 1:06:26all over the floor. Yeah.
- 1:06:27Yeah, and Hartman is? There, too, which it seems weird
- 1:06:31that we're like, OK, last we left her, she was in a barn.
- 1:06:35Now there are chicken feathers on her.
- 1:06:36Surely she is inside a house. Yeah, that's how things work in
- 1:06:39the Texas Chainsaw universe. You know what?
- 1:06:41That's that's so true. Yeah, so she gets up, she unties
- 1:06:45herself, and then Hartman's like, hey, can you untie me too?
- 1:06:48She goes, what were you going to do to me?
- 1:06:50He goes. Honestly, I don't know.
- 1:06:52I just mad I see you in red. And because Lizzie has no sense
- 1:06:56of self preservation. She frees him.
- 1:06:58She frees him and she's helping him sneak out through the house
- 1:07:00because he's limping real bad. And guess what?
- 1:07:02People limping real bad aren't so great at sneaking.
- 1:07:05So Nevins and Drayton grab them both and bring them out to the
- 1:07:08living room and Jed comes out with his chainsaw and he saws
- 1:07:17up. Hartman does it slowly.
- 1:07:22Yeah, it starts with the hands and then he works his way to the
- 1:07:24tummy. Yeah, and the whole time
- 1:07:26Lizzie's trying to say like, don't do this, don't do this.
- 1:07:28And she manages to get herself free.
- 1:07:31She goes running. She gets caught in a bear trap
- 1:07:34and Jed is following with his chainsaw.
- 1:07:37He gets there and she's like, please don't do this.
- 1:07:39It seems like she's having some sort of appeal.
- 1:07:42It seems like it's going well. Verna comes up and she's like,
- 1:07:46do it, Jed, like she hurt our family.
- 1:07:48She. Outsiders you can't trust.
- 1:07:50Them can't trust outsiders. And then Lizzie, queen of lack
- 1:07:55of self preservation, says this isn't you, this is just your
- 1:07:59crazy mom. Boom boom, instant decapitation.
- 1:08:02Head cut off Shoof. So we cut to the next day and we
- 1:08:08see Vernon. She's burning the clothes of
- 1:08:10both of them and it's weird. That this is the next day,
- 1:08:13because it clearly is, by the way they're disposing of the
- 1:08:16bodies and the clothes. And the sunlight.
- 1:08:17And the sunlight. But he has taken his reins off
- 1:08:20his face and it looks like his stitches have healed some.
- 1:08:23You're right. Yeah, it is a little bit strange
- 1:08:25here. I don't know that lack of
- 1:08:27consistency. But he's down there listening to
- 1:08:29Patti LaSalle. Yeah, like the others are
- 1:08:32feeding the we're we're assuming the corpses to the pigs and it
- 1:08:36starts at the house and goes downstairs and we're panning
- 1:08:39into weather faces where and he's making his first face.
- 1:08:43Yeah, they said as long as you kill every so often, you can do
- 1:08:47all of your arts and crafts. In fact, this is how we will
- 1:08:49source your supplies. You know what's cool, though?
- 1:08:51I do like this. This is the Pretty Woman face.
- 1:08:54Yeah. Because it's Lizzy and he like
- 1:08:58it makes the face. And then we see him get the
- 1:08:59lipstick. Yeah.
- 1:09:02You know what my biggest problem was?
- 1:09:04Jackson being Jed or Bubba. What?
- 1:09:08He wasn't killing people that trespassed in his house.
- 1:09:11No, he. Wasn't that's such a that's
- 1:09:13again, that's another important piece of Leatherface.
- 1:09:17True, he also does listen to his family.
- 1:09:19He does listen to his family. He does get pressured by his
- 1:09:21family. I just wish we could have seen
- 1:09:22like 1 moment of like, you intruded in my space, you
- 1:09:26intruded in my home. That's a big no no for me.
- 1:09:29Yeah. I just, it just doesn't make
- 1:09:32sense because this isn't the Leatherface that we see and then
- 1:09:34like the original, like he, it's just a completely different
- 1:09:39person. I just, I I hate that this is
- 1:09:41who we made Leatherface in this movie.
- 1:09:43Yeah, and it just, it feels also arbitrary because they didn't
- 1:09:46want us to think that Bud was him.
- 1:09:48Yeah, just make it bud, man. Like it's.
- 1:09:51Just fucking stupid. Because that's the thing with
- 1:09:52prequels is that we know we're going to eventually get to X
- 1:09:55point, right? We know what's going to happen.
- 1:09:58So you have to keep it interesting, but you don't have
- 1:10:00to put in a plot twist just to make it interesting.
- 1:10:02You can just make an engaging story.
- 1:10:06Yeah, just do that. Yeah.
- 1:10:08I don't know, Like, you could have had two big dudes.
- 1:10:11Which one's going to be a weather face?
- 1:10:13I don't know. They're both like very similar.
- 1:10:14They like, have they formed a bond in the institution and, you
- 1:10:18know, they're together and, like, OK, well, you think this
- 1:10:20guy's going to be leather face? No, it's the other big dude.
- 1:10:22And that's the other thing. I knew that Jackson is so much
- 1:10:24shorter and now his jaw is broken and messed up.
- 1:10:27How is he actually going to get like the big build?
- 1:10:29Yeah. Does he just get depressed and
- 1:10:31just gain a lot of weight? Is that what we're building up
- 1:10:33to? I don't know, just bullshit.
- 1:10:37I don't like this. So I'm, I don't think it's as
- 1:10:41boring as I remembered it, man. Yeah, but I still, like you
- 1:10:47said, it's still very solidly last in the franchise for me.
- 1:10:49Yeah. I mean, yeah.
- 1:10:51I'm gonna keep mine at A5. I think I've pointed out plenty
- 1:10:53of things that I would change. Same, I'm knocking mine down to
- 1:10:575.5 here. Just that pisses me off.
- 1:10:59I fucking hate that I it's just that that's not him.
- 1:11:03Yeah, it just, it took away a lot of like the important pieces
- 1:11:07of him. It did.
- 1:11:08I mean, like, you don't have to change that part of his
- 1:11:10character. We.
- 1:11:12We've been joking about the arts and crafts, which isn't like
- 1:11:14really a joke because that is kind of his thing.
- 1:11:16But like, that's how we meet Bud in Gorman House as he is
- 1:11:19coloring and Jackson's just kind of like watching him color.
- 1:11:22You know, I think it also would have been interesting to just
- 1:11:24have like, a little scene of him like, you know, doing like a
- 1:11:27little bit of the cross dress thing, like showing interest in
- 1:11:29that. Yeah.
- 1:11:30You know, like that way we're like building to that last
- 1:11:32moment of him putting on the like Lizzie's face, you know?
- 1:11:35Talk about that. Because in the 1950s, that would
- 1:11:37have been seen as something like, they would have been like,
- 1:11:41oh, definitely mentally unwell with this, right that.
- 1:11:43Could have been one of the things they brought up in like
- 1:11:44the institution, like he likes to wear women's clothes.
- 1:11:47Like, you know, like that would have been like a thing that they
- 1:11:49would have been like bad on in the institution back in the 50s.
- 1:11:54Yeah, that definitely would have been something that would have
- 1:11:56come up. So I just.
- 1:11:56Feel like that would have been interesting to like have that,
- 1:11:59like if we're gonna explore his character, explored that too.
- 1:12:01Cuz I mean, clearly that's a big part of his character.
- 1:12:04Yeah. And again, it just feels like
- 1:12:05they're like, well, you've seen the rest of these.
- 1:12:07You know how this ends. Yeah.
- 1:12:08And it just, it kind of feels like a slap in the face.
- 1:12:10It does, yeah. Talia obviously, she didn't like
- 1:12:16that the one guy that defended a dog got killed, and she doesn't
- 1:12:20like that all these cows are dead.
- 1:12:21That's true, cows are her favorite.
- 1:12:23This is this is a three for Talia. 3 strikes, you're out.
- 1:12:29That's it, yeah. Who is Zoe's ultimate warrior?
- 1:12:36I think it's Clarice because Clarice make sure that she gets
- 1:12:41a meal in the diner before causing chaos.
- 1:12:43And again, she plays with her corpses.
- 1:12:45She plays with her corpses, yeah, which are her little
- 1:12:48stuffed mooses. And that's true.
- 1:12:51I agree with. You also she's got a Kitty
- 1:12:55cousin named Clarice. She does?
- 1:12:57Yeah. OK.
- 1:12:58Who'd you relate to? Who did I relate to?
- 1:13:01Oh goodness. Dang.
- 1:13:08I know who I related to. Who did you relate to?
- 1:13:11I relate to mustache in the bar there that's just side eye and
- 1:13:13the fucking rowdy ass kids in the diner.
- 1:13:16Yeah 'cause like I would have done the same.
- 1:13:19I. Guess I probably relate to.
- 1:13:25I probably relate to. I don't know who I relate to.
- 1:13:29How about relate to Lizzie? Because, I don't know, she had
- 1:13:32her bad moments, but she at least had compassion.
- 1:13:35Yeah, but I feel like I would be.
- 1:13:36I hope I would be better at escaping.
- 1:13:39I don't know. I have talked a lot about how I
- 1:13:41don't have the will to survive. A horror?
- 1:13:42Maybe you also have asthma? Wow, that's personal.
- 1:13:46I totally appreciate you sharing my medical information.
- 1:13:48I'm sorry. Yes, weeping man.
- 1:13:57I don't know, I guess I relate to, I probably relate to farms
- 1:14:05where it's like just trying to do my job and being like, oh
- 1:14:08shit, why is this my job? You would be that.
- 1:14:10That's like that. That's the men's.
- 1:14:11Yeah, like, like I'm trying to do the right thing, but you're
- 1:14:15making it really hard for me to do the right thing, Yeah.
- 1:14:17OK, I can see that. All right.
- 1:14:21Well, I guess tagline. All right, what was your?
- 1:14:27Yeah, 'cause we don't do, we don't do dream sequel for this,
- 1:14:30we just do. What do we call this one?
- 1:14:32Yeah, which, what do we call this one?
- 1:14:43It's a valid question because we already have a movie called
- 1:14:46Leatherface in the franchise. Yeah, I think we called that one
- 1:14:50joyride, Like, yeah, I think Joyride 4.
- 1:14:54So yeah, maybe this one will be Pulp Fiction too.
- 1:14:59No, come on. It's got to be something that
- 1:15:01stands out a little bit more than that.
- 1:15:03Because I I guarantee you if I say that you're not going to be,
- 1:15:06What the fuck are you talking about?
- 1:15:08And when I think of this one, I just think of this one as the
- 1:15:11crime drama. The crime drama.
- 1:15:13Yeah, like the fugitives. The on the lamb, Yeah, on the
- 1:15:19lamb one. Leatherface on the lamb.
- 1:15:20Leatherface on the lamb. OK, there we go.
- 1:15:22We'll make it that. OK.
- 1:15:24OK. All right.
- 1:15:27Tagline. Tagline.
- 1:15:28What is your tagline? You're so excited.
- 1:15:29It's I think it's great. It's weather face goes babyface
- 1:15:34because he's a good guy in this movie.
- 1:15:35And also, he's younger, so he's got the babyface and you know,
- 1:15:39we see him before his face gets mutilated.
- 1:15:40Yeah, we do get the heel turn at the end, we do, but.
- 1:15:43Exactly. See, I think it's like it works
- 1:15:45on many levels. OK, Leatherface goes babyface.
- 1:15:48Thank you. You're so excited about it.
- 1:15:49Thank you. I'm really proud of that.
- 1:15:53All right, And I guess it's time for reviews then.
- 1:15:55OK, I wasn't sure how we were gonna land, so I'd gotten a good
- 1:16:00and a bad one. OK so I'm actually gonna read
- 1:16:04both because I wanna get more varied perspectives.
- 1:16:07Cuz we're in the middle there, so I guess it's fair to do both.
- 1:16:11I'll start with the lower one. OK one out of 10.
- 1:16:15Here's your classic lazy script cliche movie with stupid victims
- 1:16:18who are too dumb to escape no matter if they are full on
- 1:16:21running and the chaser is walking.
- 1:16:22Classic tripping classic. Broken twig while hiding in the
- 1:16:25woods conveniently revealing your location.
- 1:16:27And was it just me or did anyone else notice stupidly obvious and
- 1:16:31lame RIP offs of wannabe copies of famous scenes from actual
- 1:16:34good movies? Pulp Fiction diner scene,
- 1:16:37necromantic sex scene, Hannibal pig scene, American story X.
- 1:16:40It's American History X mouth stomp execution scan.
- 1:16:44OK, stop. And I would venture to say they
- 1:16:47wanted to copy as well, the mommy thing from Friday the
- 1:16:4913th. I think that part's a stretch,
- 1:16:53but I agree with the other ones, they are all it.
- 1:16:56Was a mommy thing and I even had a beheading.
- 1:16:59OK. Yeah, you're right.
- 1:17:02OK. I was not exciting a great
- 1:17:03movie, never been a big fan of the franchise, but I was
- 1:17:05certainly not expecting such a lame film.
- 1:17:07Sorry for those who are or were fans.
- 1:17:09This movie is certainly an insult to them.
- 1:17:11Watch it out of curiosity if you we have absolutely nothing else
- 1:17:13to do with an hour and a half and feel like meh, that's about
- 1:17:15it. Meh.
- 1:17:17I mean, I guess yeah, I like. I do think it's weird to like
- 1:17:20watch the movie if you're not a fan of the franchise already.
- 1:17:23Like, I think for us being fans of it and this being such a
- 1:17:26different tone, it makes sense where we got a little bit.
- 1:17:30Yeah, I think if you're not a fan of the franchise, you might
- 1:17:32be more open to this one. Yeah.
- 1:17:34All right. 10 out of 10 I saw this movie a couple of days ago
- 1:17:39and let me tell you this this movie was beyond great.
- 1:17:42It was amazing and the story is great and full of intense
- 1:17:44moments and a bit of mystery too.
- 1:17:46I liked every scene of the movie and every character was built
- 1:17:48very great by directors of the movie especially the characters
- 1:17:51of Stephen Dorff, Lily Taylor, Boris Kobachev, Young Judd and
- 1:17:57Sam Coleman and Sam Strike older version of Judd.
- 1:18:02This movie had some great glory scenes too and a few scenes that
- 1:18:04were kind of scary. Again the origin story of
- 1:18:06Leatherface was slash is great and for me this movie was way
- 1:18:09better than the Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2013, Texas Chainsaw
- 1:18:12Massacre at the beginning and Leatherface Texas Chainsaw
- 1:18:15Massacre 3/19/90. Wow.
- 1:18:18But I didn't like and what kind of happened in almost all the
- 1:18:21Texas Chainsaw Massacre movies except the original movie from
- 1:18:231974 was the ending. Overall, this movie was great.
- 1:18:27Was amazing, or at least a great horror movie.
- 1:18:30Yeah, OK, well, I'm glad it worked for them, but God, I
- 1:18:33just, I don't really. This movie is so much.
- 1:18:36It's just it's too different. Like it doesn't even feel like
- 1:18:39it fits in the franchise all. Right.
- 1:18:41Honestly, I think if they hadn't tried so hard to have that twist
- 1:18:44of Jackson being Jed, I think, and if they had toyed with maybe
- 1:18:49like Clarice becoming the new threat, it would have been
- 1:18:51interesting and kept the tension going for me.
- 1:18:55But I do agree with some of these points that the
- 1:18:57characters, I think their performances were all really
- 1:19:00good. Yeah, I agree with that too.
- 1:19:02Yeah. And it's definitely like a
- 1:19:06different kind of origin story. I disagree about it being better
- 1:19:09than Leatherface from 1990. I don't agree with any of that
- 1:19:14at all. Yeah, it's just I I really wish
- 1:19:18like the movie kept the slasher aspect of it too, like on the
- 1:19:22run have have them all be into killing.
- 1:19:25Yeah, like we have so much tension built in with those
- 1:19:28characters, and I really wish that we could have utilized it
- 1:19:31like, instead of it just being like for nothing.
- 1:19:34They're on the run, They don't have food.
- 1:19:36They kill and they eat people on the run and.
- 1:19:39What if? What if, hear me out, Clarice
- 1:19:46did find Ike's body and next to his body it was like a little
- 1:19:50piece of twine or some jewelry that he'd stolen cuz he was
- 1:19:53gonna fruit. That was that were a bit of a
- 1:19:56Zener trope. Honestly, and thinking of that,
- 1:20:00it could have been cool if like Weatherface made his first face
- 1:20:03off of Ike. Yeah, like there's so many ways
- 1:20:05that we could have tied this into even just those other two
- 1:20:08movies that the writer wants to consider Canon.
- 1:20:12There's so many ways that we could have done that and made
- 1:20:14this movie feel more like a text chance on movie, but different
- 1:20:18enough to be unique in the in the franchise.
- 1:20:22Yeah. But this is what we got.
- 1:20:24This is what we got. We have.
- 1:20:25To live with this. Yeah, maybe age 24 will be able
- 1:20:28to do something with it. Perhaps.
- 1:20:30We shall see. Do we have listener reviews?
- 1:20:32We do. Yay.
- 1:20:33So let's take a look here. Let's look see what y'all
- 1:20:36thought of this one. Y'all.
- 1:20:38Y'all all right. So I only have one right now and
- 1:20:41it is from Michael E Howard. OK, who says?
- 1:20:45I truly wanted to like Leatherface as a TCM movie but
- 1:20:49it missed the mark a bit for me. Parts of the movie felt like a
- 1:20:52Bonnie and Quiet slash natural born killer hybrid.
- 1:20:55Here's the thing, I almost said Natural Born Killers, but you
- 1:20:57really didn't want to go with another reference for the movie,
- 1:21:00so I kept it to myself. All right.
- 1:21:02Well, here we go. Thank you, Michael.
- 1:21:03Thank you, Michael. The reveal about who leather
- 1:21:05faces was confusing. Jackson slash.
- 1:21:08Jed was too scrawny to be what we have come to know as a
- 1:21:12Leatherface. Plus, he went from likable to
- 1:21:14horrible evil, all from a gunshot.
- 1:21:17I wanted to like it more. It had some great potential, but
- 1:21:20fell short for me. 7 on 10. OK, yeah.
- 1:21:23I mean, you pretty much summed up a lot of things that we said
- 1:21:25too there. Like, it's just it's not.
- 1:21:27That's not Bubba. That is not Bubba.
- 1:21:32Part of what's so engaging about Leatherface is that even without
- 1:21:36him talking, is we get so much characterization and you feel so
- 1:21:41much for him for being a product of his circumstances.
- 1:21:44And I feel like they tried to get that point across, but they
- 1:21:47just didn't do it in the way Texas Chainsaw has done it.
- 1:21:50Yeah, for several movies before. I, I wanna have sympathy for
- 1:21:53that character cuz I, I do like he's terrifying, but you also
- 1:21:57feel sorry for him. Yeah, he's a complex.
- 1:21:59That's what makes him so long lasting and so interesting as a
- 1:22:03horror movie villain is because there is a lot of depth and
- 1:22:07context surrounding him and it's.
- 1:22:10Just dumb. Yeah, it's just dumb.
- 1:22:11Jackson was a terrible person for that to be Weatherface.
- 1:22:15Yeah, OK, that's it then. That's it for our reviews.
- 1:22:19And I guess that means that's it for a Leatherface.
- 1:22:22Next week is our 300th movie. 300th episode.
- 1:22:25Everybody Next. Week and we had to do something
- 1:22:27special. We did we we refused when we
- 1:22:30were. Doing the schedule, we were
- 1:22:32like, we're not doing Leatherface last week of the
- 1:22:33month because that will not be our three. 100th movie.
- 1:22:35Yeah, it's not going to be episode 300.
- 1:22:37We have a better win in mind. What?
- 1:22:42No SO. We're watching The Happening.
- 1:22:44We're talking, We bought The Happening at Half Price Books.

- 1:23:28perspective and to talk because we will have fun with it
- 1:23:31regardless of what objectively or subjectively this movie does
- 1:23:35for us. Yeah, it's fun to talk about
- 1:23:37regardless. We had like a 10 minute
- 1:23:39conversation with the cashier at Half Price Books about that.
- 1:23:44He was he was like questioning our purchase.
- 1:23:46Yeah. He got really mad about the
- 1:23:48movie. And then the more we were
- 1:23:49laughing and saying how excited we were, he like, was like, Oh,
- 1:23:53yeah, yeah. I'm not.
- 1:23:55I will not back down. I will talk positively about
- 1:23:58this movie. Maybe, I don't know, I've only
- 1:24:00watched it one time. Supposed to be on a second.
- 1:24:02I'm really curious I I've watched it several times in high
- 1:24:06school, but I'm excited to talk about it from this.
- 1:24:08Respect all. Right.
- 1:24:09So we have the the happening expert on our show next week,
