- Lucas: Alright, Episode 191! Two topics back we learned the colors azul, verde, rojo. Today, let's do something different — let's learn how to say 'I speak' and 'you speak' in Spanish. Luna: Oh, I've been waiting for this! I want to say 'I speak a little Spanish'. Lucas: Perfect place to start. The verb is hablar — to speak. For 'I speak', it's yo hablo. Yo hablo. Luna: Yo hablo. Yo hablo. That feels good. Yo hablo español. Lucas: Yes! Yo hablo español. Now for 'you speak' — when talking to one person casually, it's tú hablas. Tú hablas. Luna: Tú hablas. Tú hablas español. Lucas: Exactly. So if you want to ask someone 'Do you speak Spanish?', you say ¿Hablas español? ¿Hablas español? Luna: ¿Hablas español? That's the whole question: just hablas and español? Lucas: Right, the 'tú' is implied in the verb ending. Let's practice. Luna, ¿hablas español? Luna: Sí, hablo español. ¡Yo hablo español! Lucas: Perfect. Now you can say 'I speak Spanish' and ask someone if they speak Spanish. Let's do a quick dialogue. I'll ask you: ¿Hablas español? Luna: Sí, hablo español. Lucas: And if I say 'Yo hablo inglés'? Luna: That means 'I speak English'. Yo hablo inglés. Lucas: Now you're getting it. Let's reverse: you ask me. Luna: ¿Hablas español? Lucas: Sí, hablo español. And also hablo inglés. Luna: So 'hablo' works for both? Yo hablo español, yo hablo inglés. Lucas: Exactly. One verb, easy.
