- 0:00Speaker 1: It's 102.7 Kiss FM in Los Angeles. Seacrest with you,
- 0:03Speaker 1: Sissany Tanya on air. And joining us now, you will
- 0:07Speaker 1: recognize the voice in one moment and the tone. It
- 0:10Speaker 1: is Oprah Winfrey. Hello, Oprah.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Hello, Ryan.
- 0:14Speaker 3: Hello.
- 0:15Speaker 1: It's so great to have you on.
- 0:17Speaker 3: So great to be on with you.
- 0:19Speaker 1: Well, do you know that, I mean, you probably know this,
- 0:21Speaker 1: but you know your name is also a verb, not
- 0:24Speaker 1: just a proper noun.
- 0:26Speaker 3: No, how is it a verb?
- 0:28Speaker 1: When people give me advice in life, they say, I'm
- 0:31Speaker 1: going to Oprah you right now.
- 0:32Speaker 3: Oh, I did not know that. Yeah.
- 0:37Speaker 1: I think it's pretty cool when you get to verb
- 0:39Speaker 1: status from a proper name.
- 0:41Speaker 3: Oh, I do, too, considering how it all started.
- 0:44Speaker 2: I mean, considering, you know, Oprah wasn't even my name.
- 0:48Speaker 2: It was I was born or a pop on my
- 0:50Speaker 2: birth certificate. And then nobody knew how to spell it.
- 0:53Speaker 2: The P got put before the R and then I
- 0:55Speaker 2: started being called Oprah.
- 0:56Speaker 3: So there you go.
- 0:57Speaker 1: And that's how you got to that. That is so
- 1:00Speaker 1: interesting to hear. You know, I was thinking about. Just
- 1:03Speaker 1: as someone that likes to work, and I know you
- 1:06Speaker 1: have spent a lot of your life working very hard,
- 1:09Speaker 1: do you feel like when you were really in it
- 1:12Speaker 1: and putting in hour after hour and show after show
- 1:15Speaker 1: and doing all the extras that come along with it,
- 1:17Speaker 1: did you miss.
- 1:18Speaker 3: Out on anything? I don't think so.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Because, you know, when I ended that show, Ryan, one
- 1:24Speaker 2: of the things I said was this show. And you,
- 1:27Speaker 2: the audience, have been the great love of my life.
- 1:29Speaker 2: And I was thinking about that other day. Would I
- 1:32Speaker 2: still say that that has been the great love of
- 1:34Speaker 2: my life? No question about it. And I don't think
- 1:37Speaker 2: I missed one thing because I was exactly where I
- 1:39Speaker 2: wanted to be doing exactly what I wanted to do.
- 1:42Speaker 2: So I think, you know, for a lot of people
- 1:45Speaker 2: and also many people who work with me and worked
- 1:48Speaker 2: on that show felt the same way. They've gone on
- 1:50Speaker 2: to other shows, done other things, but will never be
- 1:53Speaker 2: another moment in time like that.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Did you always know what you wanted in every chapter?
- 1:59Speaker 3: No.
- 1:59Speaker 2: <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL>
- 2:02Speaker 2: I came to Chicago, Ryan, just happy to get a job.
- 2:07Speaker 3: Replacing the host on AM Chicago.
- 2:09Speaker 1: I remember.
- 2:10Speaker 3: And so I just was just happy to have that job.
- 2:13Speaker 3: And oh, my God, they're going.
- 2:14Speaker 2: To pay me quite as much as I was making
- 2:17Speaker 2: in Baltimore. I thought, wow, now I can get I
- 2:21Speaker 2: can get a a decorator. Then I realized I couldn't
- 2:25Speaker 2: afford a decorator.
- 2:27Speaker 3: So I went to Marshall Fields and bought all the
- 2:29Speaker 3: things off the floor. I thought, I mean, listen, are
- 2:32Speaker 3: you kidding?
- 2:33Speaker 2: I didn't have any idea until the show started to
- 2:36Speaker 2: take off. We were beating Donahue in Chicago and I
- 2:39Speaker 2: started to think.
- 2:42Speaker 3: I had my own aha moment, okay? Aha!
- 2:47Speaker 2: When they asked me to go national, I felt that
- 2:51Speaker 2: it could work because it had worked in Chicago. But
- 2:53Speaker 2: I didn't come there with any dreams of being, you know,
- 2:56Speaker 2: a national host. I was just, I was a co-host
- 2:59Speaker 2: in Baltimore and just happy to be having a job
- 3:03Speaker 2: that I could pay the gas bill and the electric
- 3:06Speaker 2: bill and my rent all at the same time. Mm-hmm.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Well, it did work out, Oprah. It did work out.
- 3:12Speaker 3: It worked out for me. It worked out for me.
- 3:15Speaker 1: I remember the first time I met you, you came
- 3:18Speaker 1: to the set of American Idol. This was a long
- 3:21Speaker 1: time ago. This was in the early days.
- 3:23Speaker 3: That's like over 20-something years ago now, right?
- 3:25Speaker 1: Yeah, that was. It was in the early days when
- 3:28Speaker 1: the show was just taking off.
- 3:29Speaker 2: It was either the first or second season.
- 3:31Speaker 3: I do remember that.
- 3:32Speaker 1: That's right. And I remember thinking to myself in watching you,
- 3:37Speaker 1: that obviously you have a gift of being curious and
- 3:41Speaker 1: putting words together. But what I noticed was how well
- 3:44Speaker 1: you listened. And I always thought to myself, wow, to
- 3:47Speaker 1: be good or great at that role or any role
- 3:51Speaker 1: in this world, even as a person, human being and
- 3:54Speaker 1: a partner or a friend, listening is more important than talking.
- 3:58Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what I learned on the show, that paying
- 4:01Speaker 2: attention to what people were saying.
- 4:02Speaker 3: And, you know, I often say this, that the greatest lesson...
- 4:08Speaker 3: I learned from.
- 4:08Speaker 2: That show was that everybody wants to be heard. That's
- 4:13Speaker 2: what that show taught me, is that every single person
- 4:16Speaker 2: you are going to encounter today, everybody listening to us
- 4:19Speaker 2: on Kiss, everybody you're going to encounter today, what they
- 4:22Speaker 2: want to know is, do you see me and do
- 4:25Speaker 2: you hear me? And does what I say mean anything?
- 4:27Speaker 2: Everybody's looking for that. And so that was shown to
- 4:30Speaker 2: me over and over and over and over again on
- 4:32Speaker 2: that show.
- 4:33Speaker 1: Oprah Winfrey is here. We're going to talk about the
- 4:36Speaker 1: AHA experience live at Sphere Las Vegas when we come back.
- 4:39Speaker 1: 102.7 KISS FM, iHeartRadio nationwide. Oprah Winfrey is with us
- 4:44Speaker 1: in the mix this morning. She's doing something very interesting.
- 4:48Speaker 1: This sounds pretty amazing, Oprah, at Sphere in Las Vegas.
- 4:52Speaker 1: I haven't been inside myself yet. We were there and
- 4:55Speaker 1: I've seen the outside of it. But Oprah's bringing AHA,
- 4:59Speaker 1: those moments that she's known for, the AHA live at
- 5:01Speaker 1: Sphere in Las Vegas show. Tell us about it, Ms. Winfrey.
- 5:06Speaker 2: Well, I would have to say that if you haven't
- 5:08Speaker 2: been to Sphere, this is the time to come and
- 5:11Speaker 2: experience it. I was there for the U2 opening concert.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Oh, nice.
- 5:17Speaker 3: On a girls' trip with.
- 5:18Speaker 2: Gail and Maria and Ava, we had a great night.
- 5:22Speaker 2: And at the end of the concert, I walked over
- 5:24Speaker 2: to the edge of where we were seated. I looked
- 5:27Speaker 2: up and I went, what just happened here? Were we outside? No.
- 5:32Speaker 2: Was the sun coming through? Was that the sea I
- 5:36Speaker 2: was smelling? What just happened here? And I had a
- 5:41Speaker 2: major aha moment of my own. I just thought I
- 5:44Speaker 2: had this feeling come over me like what an incredible instrument,
- 5:49Speaker 2: what a credible tool this space is. You could take
- 5:54Speaker 2: people to the edge of the universe out in space
- 5:57Speaker 2: and introduce them to themselves in a way that in
- 6:02Speaker 2: relation to the entire universe that they've never felt before
- 6:05Speaker 2: because you have the visuals, you have the sound. There
- 6:08Speaker 2: are 160,000 speakers at the sphere. Unbelievable.
- 6:16Speaker 3: 160,000 speakers.
- 6:16Speaker 2: You can be in your seat listening to one song,
- 6:19Speaker 2: hearing something, and five seats down, somebody is hearing it
- 6:23Speaker 2: in another language. It has the capabilities like no other
- 6:27Speaker 2: space in the world. And so I started to think
- 6:30Speaker 2: about What could you do there that would immerse people
- 6:34Speaker 2: in an experience that allowed them to feel the heart
- 6:38Speaker 2: of themselves, but also the hearts of everybody else around
- 6:42Speaker 2: them through music, through performance, through singing, through visuals, through light.
- 6:48Speaker 2: And that's what we came up with.
- 6:50Speaker 3: Aha. So I have one of the world's greatest composers here.
- 6:54Speaker 2: Max Richter, who was nominated for an Oscar for Hamnet
- 6:57Speaker 2: last year, he's scoring every moment of this. From the
- 7:02Speaker 2: moment you step into the sphere, you will start to
- 7:04Speaker 2: hear the sounds of Max Richter and John Hopkins. Jacob
- 7:09Speaker 2: Collier is going to take the audience into its own performance.
- 7:13Speaker 2: And so the idea of Being able to go out
- 7:16Speaker 2: into the edge of space, when I told Jim Dolan,
- 7:18Speaker 2: who built the sphere, that I wanted to do that
- 7:21Speaker 2: with people, Jim said.
- 7:22Speaker 3: Have I got the footage for you. We've got live footage.
- 7:27Speaker 2: Live visuals from the Hubble spacecraft. You should come see
- 7:31Speaker 2: it and see it, Oprah. So I went to see it.
- 7:34Speaker 2: I laid back in my seat.
- 7:35Speaker 3: And I cried.
- 7:36Speaker 2: The experience of going out to the edge of the
- 7:39Speaker 2: universe through the dome of the sphere, through the windows
- 7:42Speaker 2: of the sphere, the most incredible feeling and experience, one
- 7:46Speaker 2: of the most.
- 7:47Speaker 3: I've ever had.
- 7:48Speaker 2: So I wanted other people to also feel that, to
- 7:50Speaker 2: know that, and to have their own sense of awe
- 7:53Speaker 2: and wonder. So we're filming around the world.
- 7:56Speaker 3: Nature, beauty. Yes, yes, yes.
- 8:02Speaker 2: I think people think that it's just me.
- 8:04Speaker 3: It's not me.
- 8:06Speaker 2: I will talk, but it's not just about me talking.
- 8:08Speaker 2: It's about creating an entire experience that brings people into
- 8:12Speaker 2: their own sense of awe and wonder.
- 8:14Speaker 3: And so my thing is, if you've never been, my.
- 8:18Speaker 1: Goal is to blow it out.
- 8:20Speaker 2: Everything that Sphere is capable of doing will be done
- 8:24Speaker 2: April 2nd through 4th.
- 8:26Speaker 1: There's no limitation of what you might be able to
- 8:29Speaker 1: go explore, right? I'm sure you had a vast canvas
- 8:32Speaker 1: of things that you narrowed it down to, but could
- 8:34Speaker 1: start with, right?
- 8:36Speaker 3: Absolutely. Absolutely.
- 8:37Speaker 2: And so it's the most one of the most I
- 8:39Speaker 2: have to say I've had this remarkable life and career.
- 8:43Speaker 2: But this is just the most exciting thing I ever
- 8:46Speaker 2: remember doing. I mean, I've had some exciting moments. Giving
- 8:49Speaker 2: away the cars was so fun. Taking an entire audience
- 8:52Speaker 2: to Australia was really fun. But being able to take
- 8:56Speaker 2: people who've never experienced the sphere and people who also
- 9:01Speaker 2: are seeking for themselves a higher way of being in
- 9:04Speaker 2: the world, a higher way of expressing themselves.
- 9:06Speaker 3: Igniting the light. You know, we're all born with the
- 9:08Speaker 3: light inside of us and it just, it sometimes goes
- 9:11Speaker 3: dim because of life and you know, experiences that take
- 9:16Speaker 3: you down.
- 9:16Speaker 2: So this is to remind people of really who we
- 9:19Speaker 2: are and who we are within ourselves, but who we
- 9:22Speaker 2: are together and to do it in a way that
- 9:25Speaker 2: is fun and joyful and creating aha moments.
- 9:29Speaker 1: I love it. And you shed light on it today
- 9:32Speaker 1: to understand exactly what it is and why it will
- 9:34Speaker 1: be such an amazing experience that it's called Oprah Winfrey's
- 9:38Speaker 1: Aha Live at Sphere Las Vegas starting April 2nd. As
- 9:41Speaker 1: she said, tickets are on sale starting April At 10
- 9:43Speaker 1: o'clock this morning, ahalive.com. Oprah Winfrey, what you have done,
- 9:50Speaker 1: your magic power, you know this, is the way you
- 9:52Speaker 1: make people. It's not what you say necessarily. It's the
- 9:55Speaker 1: way you make us feel. And thank you for those
- 9:59Speaker 1: feelings for so many years. And continue.
- 10:01Speaker 3: Oh, thank you, Ryan. Thank you so much. Thank you
- 10:03Speaker 3: so much. See you at Sphere.
- 10:06Speaker 1: See you at Sphere. I spit when I say it sometimes.
- 10:08Speaker 1: It's so complicated.
- 10:09Speaker 3: Sphere.
- 10:09Speaker 1: I'll see you there.
- 10:10Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah. We don't call it Sphere.
- 10:12Speaker 1: It's just Sphere. See you at Sphere. I have to
- 10:15Speaker 1: lose the article.
- 10:15Speaker 3: For multiple aha moments. For multiple aha moments.
- 10:19Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 10:20Speaker 3: Bring your friends. It's a girl's trip kind of thing
- 10:23Speaker 3: and a boy's trip.
- 10:24Speaker 1: Well, I can go on it. They always invite me
- 10:26Speaker 1: on the girl's trip. I can go on a girl's trip,
- 10:27Speaker 1: Sisney and Tanya.
- 10:28Speaker 3: I'm just saying, you know, I do. Do boys do
- 10:31Speaker 3: boy's trips? Do you do boy's trips?
- 10:33Speaker 1: I don't really like to hang out with a bunch
- 10:34Speaker 1: of dudes. He prefers a girl's trip. I prefer a
- 10:39Speaker 1: sound bath.
- 10:40Speaker 3: All right. Well, okay.
- 10:41Speaker 2: So the bottom line is come with your friends, bring
- 10:43Speaker 2: your family. It's an experience you're going to want to share.
- 10:46Speaker 2: You don't want to be there going, God, I wish
- 10:48Speaker 2: I had brought so-and-so because.
- 10:50Speaker 3: It's the kind of thing you're going to want to share.
- 10:52Speaker 1: It's a shared experience.
- 10:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:53Speaker 3: Got it. All right. Thanks. Bye-bye.
- 10:56Speaker 2: Bye.
- 10:57Speaker 1: I won't talk to Oprah Winfrey soon, but I said it.
- 11:01Speaker 3: Never know.
- 11:02Speaker 2: It's like, what?
- 11:02Speaker 1: You want to put it out there? I didn't realize
- 11:05Speaker 1: it wasn't the sphere. No, it's Sphere. I know that
- 11:09Speaker 1: because every time I say it, we have these little
- 11:12Speaker 1: notes that say the title of Backstreet Boys at Sphere.
- 11:16Speaker 1: And I keep saying, they forgot the the. And I'm
- 11:19Speaker 1: corrected to say there is no the. It's just Sphere. Yeah, interesting.
- 11:23Speaker 1: It's just Oprah. It's just Sphere.
- 11:27Speaker 2: Kiss.
