- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the Draft Prospect Review podcast on Patriots dot
- 0:04Speaker 1: Com Radio. Welcome to the NFL Draft. The Draft Prospect
- 0:07Speaker 1: Review podcast is your source for all the latest news
- 0:10Speaker 1: and information on the NFL Draft. The New England Patriots
- 0:14Speaker 1: now here to review the defensive backs the writers of
- 0:17Speaker 1: Patriots dot Com. That's right time again another draft prospect review.
- 0:23Speaker 1: Where were the prospects? And we're gonna switch gears a
- 0:27Speaker 1: little bit today. Um, we have the full house once again,
- 0:30Speaker 1: Mike dusou Evan, Lazar t Matise Bauman right right, a whillhouse.
- 0:36Speaker 1: He loves the drafts. Gardner. We're gonna switch gears and
- 0:39Speaker 1: do a little defense today. We're gonna take a look
- 0:42Speaker 1: at the defensive backs. Um, obviously, just to set the
- 0:45Speaker 1: table here for you guys to have at it. Cornerback
- 0:49Speaker 1: and safety I think are you know, rather significant needs.
- 0:52Speaker 1: I would put corner ahead, but with the retirement of
- 0:55Speaker 1: Devin mccordy, safety can't be ignored as well. So pretty
- 0:59Speaker 1: good group of corners at the top of this draft.
- 1:02Speaker 1: I think one could be in play at fourteen. So
- 1:05Speaker 1: I think we should talk, you know about all the guys. Matisse, Uh,
- 1:09Speaker 1: you don't have any any individual guy that stood out
- 1:11Speaker 1: to you. I love Joey Porter. I love Joey Porter.
- 1:15Speaker 1: I love Joey. I like Joey Porter. I hated his dad,
- 1:19Speaker 1: so did. He was the worst, but he was a
- 1:21Speaker 1: great player. If I take a corner back and he's
- 1:24Speaker 1: outside guy, I wanted to be an agitating person, and
- 1:27Speaker 1: that's how Joey Porter Junior plays. You need somebody get
- 1:29Speaker 1: under your skin. And he's very physical, very close, close coverage,
- 1:33Speaker 1: and I think that's the guy. Good size and not
- 1:35Speaker 1: alone with those first round traits. And you know a
- 1:38Speaker 1: lot of guys have Christian Gonzalez and Witherspoon from Devin
- 1:43Speaker 1: Witherspoon from Illinois, you know, maybe slightly ahead of them. Yeah,
- 1:47Speaker 1: but I think you see it that way. That's the
- 1:49Speaker 1: way I see it. So Joey Porter Junior is a
- 1:52Speaker 1: very very good player. And I'm not surprised that Matisse
- 1:54Speaker 1: likes him because he's a little Sauce Gardner ish with
- 1:56Speaker 1: the length and the size on the outside. But I
- 1:59Speaker 1: think the one thing that concerns me with him is
- 2:02Speaker 1: that I think that he's a matchup based guy. Like
- 2:04Speaker 1: I don't think that you are going to be able
- 2:07Speaker 1: to just say Joey Porter Junior. You got Tyreek Hill
- 2:11Speaker 1: this week, and then next week you got Jamar Chase, right, Like,
- 2:14Speaker 1: you got to really make sure that you're careful with
- 2:17Speaker 1: where you put him, because I don't think that he
- 2:19Speaker 1: has the long speeder that transitions to hang with the
- 2:22Speaker 1: speedy guys like a Tyreek Hill or the jitterbug guys
- 2:26Speaker 1: in that respect. But I love Christian Gonzalez. For the
- 2:29Speaker 1: life of me, I can't figure out how this guy's
- 2:31Speaker 1: not a lock top ten consensus pick across the board.
- 2:35Speaker 1: It really has no flaws to his game. He's six
- 2:38Speaker 1: foot two, two hundred pounds, runs well, play zone plays,
- 2:42Speaker 1: man plays, match plays the run. Like, I just can't
- 2:46Speaker 1: really think of anything that he does poorly. I don't
- 2:49Speaker 1: know where the flags are. I love him. I love
- 2:51Speaker 1: Christian Gonzalez, and it's like he's one of those guys
- 2:53Speaker 1: where I'm like, I just have to make peace with
- 2:55Speaker 1: he's gonna go in the top ten, But I find
- 2:57Speaker 1: myself going back just to watch him because I just
- 2:59Speaker 1: think he's so smooth and so good. If he were
- 3:02Speaker 1: there at fourteen, I think that would be an absolute
- 3:04Speaker 1: steal um. But I think the Witherspoon's an interesting one,
- 3:07Speaker 1: and Evan and I were talking a little bit about
- 3:09Speaker 1: him because I think on one hand, I see him as,
- 3:12Speaker 1: you know, a little bit of a slot maybe a
- 3:14Speaker 1: little bit of a move around guys. Definitely very physical
- 3:18Speaker 1: U but at the same time, like we need a
- 3:20Speaker 1: guy on the outside, we need, you know, in that regard,
- 3:23Speaker 1: I think Gonzalez is obvious that you know, Porter maybe,
- 3:26Speaker 1: And as you get down farther in the draft, I
- 3:29Speaker 1: love Deonte Banks too, will get into him, but um,
- 3:31Speaker 1: I just have I'm so torn on on Witherspoon, whether
- 3:34Speaker 1: he's totally one of their type of guys or just
- 3:37Speaker 1: another kind of guy that they don't really need one
- 3:39Speaker 1: of those kind of guys, if that makes sense. He's
- 3:41Speaker 1: a total first round outlier if he goes in the
- 3:44Speaker 1: top twenty. A five foot eleven, hundred and eighty pound
- 3:47Speaker 1: corner going in the top twenty, let alone the top
- 3:50Speaker 1: ten is not something in the league usually. Does that
- 3:53Speaker 1: have a nickel guy? You don't see it? Yeah, yeah,
- 3:55Speaker 1: I don't see that. That's but he's got like ten
- 3:57Speaker 1: dogs in him right, Like he's just an a sleute,
- 4:02Speaker 1: good player. I like all three of these guys. Um,
- 4:05Speaker 1: I think I probably like Poorter more than Witherspoon, But
- 4:07Speaker 1: I do like all three of these guys. I agree
- 4:10Speaker 1: with you know a lot of the points you guys made.
- 4:12Speaker 1: Let's move a little bit lower. Um, you know into
- 4:15Speaker 1: day two you uh, you know full shadowed your guy
- 4:17Speaker 1: from Maryland. Uh, you know, so what stood out to you?
- 4:21Speaker 1: I mean, I love him. I mean I think for me,
- 4:23Speaker 1: I think he could be one of those surprise guys
- 4:25Speaker 1: that just kind of shoots up and is in the
- 4:27Speaker 1: mid teens somewhere. Um. He just made such an impression
- 4:30Speaker 1: on me at the combine just listening to him talk,
- 4:32Speaker 1: not to you know, talk not about him on the field,
- 4:34Speaker 1: but off the field. But he just has that it
- 4:37Speaker 1: to me, like I just watching this guy, and I'm like, you,
- 4:40Speaker 1: young man, you have got it, uh physical you know,
- 4:44Speaker 1: matchup guy talk. That was a quote and I'm not
- 4:47Speaker 1: sure exactly off the top of my head where it
- 4:49Speaker 1: came from Paul, but it's one of those things that
- 4:50Speaker 1: that's the movie that was burned into my brain and
- 4:53Speaker 1: in the eighties. Um, but I really really really like
- 4:56Speaker 1: him a lot, and it's almost like the kind of
- 4:58Speaker 1: guy where I've considered you know, the Patriots just kind
- 5:00Speaker 1: of swoop and take him at fourteen. I wouldn't be
- 5:02Speaker 1: totally shocked to teach you got any of those, you know,
- 5:05Speaker 1: maybe late first, second round, third round, kind of j
- 5:08Speaker 1: Turner from Michigan four point two six speed, mix of
- 5:12Speaker 1: inside and outside. Just think he can place him anywhere.
- 5:15Speaker 1: You know, he can run with Tyreek, So anybody like
- 5:17Speaker 1: Cam Smith, Yes, yes, yeah, he's a physical guy. I
- 5:20Speaker 1: wish that he liked Smith. Yea. I wish he'd played
- 5:22Speaker 1: Jalen Hide a little bit tighter like he held Jalen
- 5:26Speaker 1: highly did in check and I think a lot of
- 5:28Speaker 1: people point to that game as a feather in his cap.
- 5:31Speaker 1: But he played off eight yards off the line of
- 5:33Speaker 1: scrimmage against Jalen High at the entire game and basically
- 5:36Speaker 1: just let him catch everything underneath and tackled him, which
- 5:39Speaker 1: is like, okay, that's a great game plan. Like I'm
- 5:41Speaker 1: not gonna play the score. That was a very high
- 5:43Speaker 1: scoring game that they had a big lead in throughout.
- 5:46Speaker 1: But I would just like to have seen him be like,
- 5:49Speaker 1: you know what, I'm better than you and I'm just
- 5:50Speaker 1: gonna get in your face and I'm gonna eliminate you
- 5:52Speaker 1: from the equation, and I didn't necessarily think they did
- 5:55Speaker 1: that at Banks, though. Is I think Basic go in
- 5:57Speaker 1: the first round. I think he's going in the twenty.
- 6:00Speaker 1: He's he's somebody that you watch him against Ohio State,
- 6:04Speaker 1: for example, and that that just deep arsenal of receivers
- 6:07Speaker 1: that they have, and he's hanging with every single one
- 6:10Speaker 1: of those guys from Marvin Harrison Junior on down. I
- 6:13Speaker 1: think if you're trying to get into that like forty
- 6:15Speaker 1: six range, I think you're starting to talk about some
- 6:18Speaker 1: of these guys that typically the Patriots love their second
- 6:21Speaker 1: round dbs. They love to maybe go a little bit
- 6:24Speaker 1: off the beaten path with who they decide to pick.
- 6:27Speaker 1: So I've tried to kind of come I'd like to
- 6:29Speaker 1: see them go with the first or third round with
- 6:31Speaker 1: the DBS. I had enough of the second round. Yeah yeah,
- 6:35Speaker 1: let's try a different round. Yeah yeah, yeah, I would.
- 6:38Speaker 1: I'd bring up Julius Brent's too. I know everybody loves him.
- 6:42Speaker 1: I just want to be on the record saying I
- 6:44Speaker 1: don't know, I don't love him, but I am fully
- 6:48Speaker 1: recognize that I am on an island done that one.
- 6:50Speaker 1: I think he's fine, but I don't think you're not
- 6:52Speaker 1: on an island. I don't like him all that much.
- 6:55Speaker 1: He's starting to I'm starting to have some concerns about
- 6:58Speaker 1: his profile as well, because he he ran in the
- 7:01Speaker 1: low four fives at the combine and long speed was
- 7:04Speaker 1: a concern on film, and then it was a concern
- 7:06Speaker 1: now from the combine. And he's faster than Jewan Williams.
- 7:10Speaker 1: Like he's a great size stuff. He's a tenth of
- 7:13Speaker 1: a second faster, which is that's a lot right when
- 7:15Speaker 1: you're talking about forty yard dashes. But I do think
- 7:18Speaker 1: that there are some similar Does he have the just
- 7:23Speaker 1: top end speed to hang with the NFL receivers you
- 7:28Speaker 1: mentioned Cam Smith. I think his teammate Darius Rush is
- 7:30Speaker 1: an interesting just tools based prospect. He's got a long
- 7:33Speaker 1: way to go technically converted from wide receiver to corner
- 7:37Speaker 1: I would mention him, looka, this is a long list,
- 7:41Speaker 1: like this is one of the best cornerback classes that
- 7:44Speaker 1: I've evaluated and doing this for almost ten years, you
- 7:48Speaker 1: know this is going to be a class that I
- 7:50Speaker 1: think is gonna have maybe fifteen to twenty guys go
- 7:53Speaker 1: in the first three two days of the draft, and
- 7:56Speaker 1: then some starting caliber guys going round four as well.
- 8:01Speaker 1: So I think Riley Moss from Iowa is another guy
- 8:04Speaker 1: that needs to be talked about as somebody as we
- 8:06Speaker 1: start to get into safety as well. I think Moss
- 8:10Speaker 1: and Keeley Ringo from Georgia are two guys that could
- 8:12Speaker 1: probably hang for you at corner or at safety. So
- 8:16Speaker 1: if you want to try them out at corner as
- 8:18Speaker 1: a rookie it doesn't necessarily pan out as as well
- 8:21Speaker 1: as you had hoped, and then move them to safety
- 8:23Speaker 1: like you did with Devin mccordy. I think those two
- 8:26Speaker 1: guys qualify as guys that I could see doing that
- 8:29Speaker 1: in the league and maybe being better safeties than they
- 8:32Speaker 1: are corners, but still having that ability to play some
- 8:35Speaker 1: corner if you wanted them to play on the outside.
- 8:39Speaker 1: Those are the day two guys that I would look at.
- 8:43Speaker 1: And then I have one one guy that is a
- 8:45Speaker 1: Patriot guy that they will take that. Everybody be like,
- 8:47Speaker 1: who the heck is this in the second round, But
- 8:49Speaker 1: we can get to that in the second No, No,
- 8:51Speaker 1: we can get to it. Corey Trice Junior from Purdue
- 8:55Speaker 1: is six foot three, two hundred and five pounds ran
- 9:00Speaker 1: a four or four six in the forty yard dash.
- 9:02Speaker 1: Press man specialist. This is everybody's got him going in
- 9:06Speaker 1: the sixth round. Bill Belichick's gonna get up there with
- 9:08Speaker 1: the forty sixth pick and he's gonna take Corey Tries
- 9:11Speaker 1: in the second round. Okay, I know it. So he's
- 9:13Speaker 1: now he's now taken open shots at the administration. So
- 9:17Speaker 1: give me before we move on to safeties. Guys, both
- 9:20Speaker 1: of you, Tease and Mike, give me sort of a
- 9:23Speaker 1: day three flyer, someone that you kind of liked. No,
- 9:26Speaker 1: don't try to like match him with the Patriots, just
- 9:28Speaker 1: someone that you know, that guy, he's have a good career.
- 9:31Speaker 1: I throw maybe Jakoreyan Bennet and they're the other guy
- 9:33Speaker 1: from Maryland. But you know, to be honest, I feel
- 9:35Speaker 1: like I don't have a great sense of the lower
- 9:38Speaker 1: guys because I've gotten so enamored with the first Also
- 9:41Speaker 1: a lot of guys to watch and sort of get
- 9:44Speaker 1: familiar with, and it's easy to just you know, we've
- 9:47Speaker 1: ran through him. I just mentioned Garrett Williams too from
- 9:49Speaker 1: Syracuse as a guy you know coming off in ACLS,
- 9:52Speaker 1: you know, has some has some traits that that you
- 9:54Speaker 1: like but um, but I do. I do think that,
- 9:56Speaker 1: you know, Bennett is I just think he's more of
- 9:58Speaker 1: a slot and that's I think. I look at the
- 10:01Speaker 1: need and I say, we need an outside guy. We
- 10:03Speaker 1: have so many slot guys that can be moved around,
- 10:06Speaker 1: and that I just I love a guy who can
- 10:08Speaker 1: play every down, play on the outside, take on you know,
- 10:10Speaker 1: those those good receivers that they face every week, and
- 10:13Speaker 1: those guys going on in the first two days of
- 10:15Speaker 1: the draft. So I probably have become too focused on that.
- 10:18Speaker 1: And you know, though, there will be some players down
- 10:21Speaker 1: in the bottom of the draft that they might take
- 10:22Speaker 1: flyers on. But right now, I'm just got I've got
- 10:24Speaker 1: Starry Go. You got a Lake, Yeah, late Brown Gem,
- 10:28Speaker 1: hidden Gem, love, Riley Moss not super late. My guy
- 10:31Speaker 1: is Darryl Louder Junior South Alabama. Wow quarterbacks. I'm not deep,
- 10:37Speaker 1: not afraid to get in the backfield, and he's very
- 10:39Speaker 1: good at jump balls. I think that's just one of
- 10:40Speaker 1: those guys who is either going to be a practice
- 10:42Speaker 1: squad guy or is going to play here for eight years.
- 10:44Speaker 1: All right, so let's move on to safety, and um,
- 10:47Speaker 1: you know, I think what's kind of interesting now is
- 10:50Speaker 1: there's a lot less of the you know, put a
- 10:52Speaker 1: guy in a in a box. You know, this is
- 10:54Speaker 1: a strong safety or this is, you know, a boundary post. Whatever.
- 10:58Speaker 1: These guys, they play safety a lot. You know, the
- 11:00Speaker 1: Patriots have done this, and we talked about this, Evan
- 11:03Speaker 1: talked about this a little bit on Patriots Unfiltered, about
- 11:07Speaker 1: just the different ways that Belichick likes to use the
- 11:10Speaker 1: safeties and hybrid kind of roles and do you see
- 11:13Speaker 1: guys without that kind of profile, Evan. So, the biggest
- 11:17Speaker 1: concern that I have with this safety class and basically
- 11:20Speaker 1: safeties in general over the last couple of years, just
- 11:22Speaker 1: talking about it from a pipeline standpoint, like what's coming
- 11:26Speaker 1: up from the college game. The Devin mccordy center fielders
- 11:30Speaker 1: just don't exist anymore because all these college teams are
- 11:33Speaker 1: playing two high zone, they are all playing split safety,
- 11:36Speaker 1: they're all playing a lot of these safeties are playing
- 11:39Speaker 1: hybrid roles in the box now like the Patriots like
- 11:41Speaker 1: to do with their guys, and they're just not a
- 11:44Speaker 1: whole lot of guys that just sit in the middle
- 11:46Speaker 1: of the field and range over the top. It just
- 11:49Speaker 1: is a really difficult skill set to find That's why
- 11:51Speaker 1: I mentioned Ringo and Moss's two guys that played corner
- 11:55Speaker 1: in college that have the speed and the ball skills
- 11:57Speaker 1: and that ball hawking ability maybe then transition to safety
- 12:01Speaker 1: in the pros. I think there a couple of guys
- 12:04Speaker 1: that you look at. I think Brian Branch is eventually
- 12:07Speaker 1: going to transition to deep safety. He's somebody that played
- 12:10Speaker 1: nickel or that star role in Nick Saban's defense in
- 12:14Speaker 1: the slot. But I think that he's ideally a guy
- 12:17Speaker 1: that maybe makes that Devin mccordy type transition back end
- 12:21Speaker 1: transition to safety. His teammate Jordan Battle played free safety
- 12:26Speaker 1: at Alabama. He's somebody that was more in the middle
- 12:29Speaker 1: of the field and played that role, but has some
- 12:32Speaker 1: size at six to one to be able to come
- 12:34Speaker 1: down and play in the box as well. I don't
- 12:37Speaker 1: love this safety class. It's not a great safety class,
- 12:42Speaker 1: and it's a class that I think has a lot
- 12:44Speaker 1: of Kyle Dugger's, which I don't know how many more
- 12:47Speaker 1: of those you could possibly have on the roster than
- 12:49Speaker 1: with Dugger and Phillips and Jabrill Peppers, and even I
- 12:52Speaker 1: throw Joshua Bledsoe in that category as well. So I
- 12:56Speaker 1: just don't really know where they go. But there's a
- 12:58Speaker 1: couple of guys in the middle rounds that that I
- 13:00Speaker 1: think are interesting. So beyond those Alabama guys Mike and Tease, Um,
- 13:05Speaker 1: you know who who stood up to you guys? Yeah,
- 13:07Speaker 1: a couple of a couple of favorites of mine. Christopher Smith.
- 13:09Speaker 1: I like him. I think that's more you know in
- 13:10Speaker 1: the middle. But I totally agree with Evan's point, and
- 13:12Speaker 1: I just I would say Brian Branch I just he
- 13:15Speaker 1: seems like a patriot to me. And as much as
- 13:17Speaker 1: you don't need him, I just watch him play and
- 13:19Speaker 1: I'm like, that's that's one of their guys and they
- 13:21Speaker 1: don't really need that, but he seems like that kind
- 13:23Speaker 1: of player. Um, you know, a lower Brandon Jovas. Joseph
- 13:26Speaker 1: from Notre Dame is another one played a lot captain
- 13:29Speaker 1: uh that that I liked. And one final name I'll
- 13:32Speaker 1: mention is Sidney Brown Who's been all over the place,
- 13:34Speaker 1: but I just really like him. He's just one of
- 13:36Speaker 1: those leg And it's forgive me for bringing this up,
- 13:38Speaker 1: but you know, special teams guy does a lot of
- 13:41Speaker 1: different things. Uh, you know, maybe a later round guy,
- 13:43Speaker 1: but I just like the way he plays, plays with
- 13:45Speaker 1: his hair on fire, and it stands out to me.
- 13:47Speaker 1: I love Antonio john Antonio Johnson from Texas A and M.
- 13:51Speaker 1: I know he's gonna be a top, top guy, but
- 13:52Speaker 1: he just puts his life on the line with every
- 13:54Speaker 1: head he's always on. The love to get the back
- 13:56Speaker 1: is just looking to see if someone can maybe lose
- 13:58Speaker 1: a life on a random some dogs back. We need
- 14:02Speaker 1: some dogs. We just got Jude on that's it. Dugger
- 14:04Speaker 1: is a dog, so let's get Johnson too. Johnson's a
- 14:07Speaker 1: good player, but he's Kyle Dugger. Like literally, NFL dot
- 14:10Speaker 1: COM's comparison for him is Kyle Dug. Yeah, And that's
- 14:14Speaker 1: why I started it. And I haven't been as well
- 14:17Speaker 1: versed on the safeties because we were tied up with
- 14:19Speaker 1: some things, uh, you know, administrative things. So that's why
- 14:26Speaker 1: I prefaced it with the style, you know, because I
- 14:29Speaker 1: do think that that style is something that Belichick really likes. Um,
- 14:34Speaker 1: he's really wanted it for a long time and then
- 14:37Speaker 1: seemed to finally get it when he brought Patrick Chunk
- 14:40Speaker 1: back the second time. And I think a lot of
- 14:42Speaker 1: the guys that he's used since then, he's always had
- 14:45Speaker 1: a guy in that kind of mold, a guy who
- 14:47Speaker 1: might be physical enough to cover tight ends, definitely physical
- 14:51Speaker 1: enough to get in the box and support on the
- 14:53Speaker 1: run play, you know, a hybrid linebacker kind of role.
- 14:55Speaker 1: And sometimes it's not always the same guy. And Evan
- 14:58Speaker 1: just talked about all of those guys is kind of
- 15:00Speaker 1: have that same profile Dugger Phillips, and I think you're right,
- 15:04Speaker 1: even Bledsoe. I think, even though we haven't seen him
- 15:07Speaker 1: really with the varsity so to speak, that's what he profiles.
- 15:11Speaker 1: So I wonder if they need somebody different than that totally.
- 15:14Speaker 1: And that's it just seems like every draft they get one,
- 15:16Speaker 1: every free agency period, they seem to sign one of
- 15:18Speaker 1: those guys. And that's that's why I like. I just
- 15:20Speaker 1: I can't totally rule out Brian Branch as much as
- 15:23Speaker 1: you know, I don't think it's it's really that's the need, um.
- 15:26Speaker 1: But I think the free safety thing is is what
- 15:28Speaker 1: that Evan mentioned is is a big piece of it.
- 15:30Speaker 1: You know, do you have those guys you need it?
- 15:32Speaker 1: I just I go back to twenty twelve, they didn't
- 15:34Speaker 1: really have that guy. They were getting beat left and
- 15:36Speaker 1: right on the deep balls, so they had to make
- 15:39Speaker 1: a move with mccordy, and that kind of was the
- 15:40Speaker 1: first kind of piece to fall before then you know,
- 15:43Speaker 1: then you bring back Chung and then it all kind
- 15:44Speaker 1: of clicks into place. So it's a tough it's a
- 15:46Speaker 1: tough class to get a read on, and you just
- 15:48Speaker 1: can't ignore how much they love those strong safety types
- 15:50Speaker 1: and you brought up special teams. I want to just
- 15:53Speaker 1: throw this to Evan. We could probably wrap this up.
- 15:55Speaker 1: M Is there a late round guy that might be,
- 15:58Speaker 1: you know, that special teams kind of profile that can
- 16:01Speaker 1: do some different things. So the one guy that you
- 16:04Speaker 1: have someone feel free to follow. But there's a one
- 16:06Speaker 1: guy that stood out other than Trey Deane, who obviously
- 16:10Speaker 1: was the star of the Shrine Bowl. But Jordan Howden
- 16:12Speaker 1: from Minnesota was another player that really stood out that
- 16:16Speaker 1: I think is going to be able to have some
- 16:18Speaker 1: of that safety nickel versatility and to be able to
- 16:21Speaker 1: play in the box but also play a little bit
- 16:24Speaker 1: at corner and deep as well, and has some special
- 16:27Speaker 1: teams traits to him too. But I just you mentioned
- 16:31Speaker 1: Sidney Brown from Illinois. I actually really like his team
- 16:34Speaker 1: major Tavius Martin, who plays a nickel free safety hybrid
- 16:39Speaker 1: type of role. But out of all these people in
- 16:42Speaker 1: this class, I think Martin is the one guy that
- 16:44Speaker 1: I watched that I really felt comfortable saying that he
- 16:47Speaker 1: could play post safety in the middle of the field
- 16:50Speaker 1: and have that range and have that size to be
- 16:52Speaker 1: able to play back there. Don't I don't know if
- 16:54Speaker 1: anybody else in this class can do it better on
- 16:56Speaker 1: film currently than Tretavius Martin. And he just look at
- 17:00Speaker 1: that Illinois secondary and I have no idea how anybody
- 17:02Speaker 1: completed the pass against those guys. That defense was legit. Yeah,
- 17:07Speaker 1: I mean Martin, Sydney Brown, Witherspoon we talked about earlier.
- 17:11Speaker 1: They have three legit guys in this draft that are
- 17:14Speaker 1: top one hundred style players in that secondary, and any
- 17:18Speaker 1: one of those guys I think of the Patriots drafted
- 17:20Speaker 1: any one of them, I think Patriots fans should be
- 17:23Speaker 1: happy with the pick. This might be undrafted free agent
- 17:26Speaker 1: guy Cavon Merriweather from Iowa. He's only just you know,
- 17:29Speaker 1: he's just floating back there. But his his two minute
- 17:32Speaker 1: highlight tape. A lot of goal line stands just see
- 17:35Speaker 1: him like I can just see him, you know, field goals,
- 17:37Speaker 1: you know online punt return stuff like that, just you know,
- 17:40Speaker 1: making one one play. Need hear, folks in life, if
- 17:43Speaker 1: you can find anybody who cares about you the way
- 17:46Speaker 1: Teas cares about draft prospects, you're doing something right in
- 17:49Speaker 1: this world. I'll tell you that. I'm gonna put a
- 17:52Speaker 1: little bit of a bow on this one. Here. We
- 17:55Speaker 1: had wide Receivers tight Ends was our last podcast. That's
- 17:58Speaker 1: a long one because obviously you're dealing with a lot.
- 18:00Speaker 1: Another long one today with the secondary. I think this
- 18:04Speaker 1: one those corners, I think you need to really keep
- 18:07Speaker 1: an eye on at the top of the draft. I
- 18:08Speaker 1: think that's in play. And I know that the boys,
- 18:12Speaker 1: all three of you have a little bit of a
- 18:14Speaker 1: crush on Christian Gonzalez. If he slips, I'll just let's
- 18:18Speaker 1: let's close it up with this just kind of a
- 18:20Speaker 1: short answer. Yes, no, if he sort of slips he
- 18:22Speaker 1: gets to ten, eleven, twelve, is he worth trading up for.
- 18:27Speaker 1: I guess yes. I mean I just didn't I love him, Yeah,
- 18:30Speaker 1: I do. I mean the only real can thing with
- 18:32Speaker 1: me is just Pac twelve. That's it, you know, that's
- 18:34Speaker 1: just like coming from that that league, like that's it.
- 18:37Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, sorry, I call it the pack slow
- 18:41Speaker 1: because everybody in that conference. That's why, Well the wide
- 18:45Speaker 1: receivers from the PAC twelve. Yeah, but I say no,
- 18:48Speaker 1: I wouldn't trade up for him. The main reason why
- 18:51Speaker 1: is because I think this draft is so insanely deep
- 18:53Speaker 1: at corner that fair enough. I don't think that you
- 18:57Speaker 1: can go wrong with about ten of these guys. And
- 19:00Speaker 1: this is how I feel at corner in general at fourteen.
- 19:03Speaker 1: I don't love corner at fourteen because at forty six
- 19:06Speaker 1: and look, I know the second round has not been
- 19:08Speaker 1: great for the Patriots at corner, but this class I
- 19:11Speaker 1: think is unique. I think this class is different that
- 19:13Speaker 1: you're going to get a guy in that second round
- 19:16Speaker 1: range that would probably be a back end of the
- 19:19Speaker 1: first round player in a different class. That's how deep
- 19:21Speaker 1: we are at corner this year. So I think that
- 19:24Speaker 1: that's I am not exactly as into corner at fourteen
- 19:30Speaker 1: as everybody else because I feel like you can get
- 19:33Speaker 1: what they need, which is really just a matchup big,
- 19:36Speaker 1: bigger corner on the outside to play at a high
- 19:39Speaker 1: volume at boundary corner as late as probably the end
- 19:43Speaker 1: of the third round. See is he worth it for you?
- 19:46Speaker 1: NFL made number zero available for a reason this year.
- 19:50Speaker 1: That's a great answer. I like he's unbelievable. All right.
- 19:53Speaker 1: So that's our latest draft prospect review. We will be
