- 1:14Speaker 2: Now now now we can really get into it.
- 1:18Speaker 4: You know he writing a lot of people's songs because
- 1:20Speaker 4: you just see his jewelry.
- 1:22Speaker 1: That's how you can tell a song.
- 1:23Speaker 2: Started making Rose Gold playing Jane presidential?
- 1:27Speaker 1: What type of dominance that begets? Little begets? It's actually
- 1:32Speaker 1: the City sixtieth edition.
- 1:33Speaker 2: Wise, So you know, you can't just can't get what
- 1:36Speaker 2: he can't just watch and you can't just get that one.
- 1:39Speaker 2: It's what you're saying, No, you can't. He got too
- 1:41Speaker 2: watches on? Yeah, yeah, now what's the other watch? Sir?
- 1:45Speaker 1: It's a p okay okay, man, it's light though, it's
- 1:48Speaker 1: just like coming outside listen.
- 1:52Speaker 4: Take you to start writing songs. I think I think
- 1:54Speaker 4: I need to start. That's that Beyonce Sharon start a
- 1:58Speaker 4: new profession.
- 1:59Speaker 1: Yeah for sure, for sure. It took a lot of
- 2:01Speaker 1: work though though it wasn't easy.
- 2:02Speaker 3: For Let's get into it. You know, tell us a
- 2:04Speaker 3: little bit about yourself, about your background.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Well, I'm a songwriter, you know, as you know y'all
- 2:09Speaker 1: written for people like Ed Sharing, Little Dirk, Young, Blue,
- 2:13Speaker 1: Chris Brown, Madonna, Beyonce. Like I had a lot of
- 2:17Speaker 1: you know, big songs, big records, you know what I'm saying,
- 2:19Speaker 1: And like, you know, just transitioning to being an artist.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Now drop my own projects. But before that, where are
- 2:25Speaker 1: you from? I'm from Chicago, let's start then, Yeah, it's
- 2:29Speaker 1: southside of Chicago. Grew up you know what I'm saying
- 2:30Speaker 1: in the trenches or whatever, sixty six and Hermitage, and
- 2:34Speaker 1: I basically started writing, like I tell this story, you
- 2:37Speaker 1: know what I'm saying a lot of times, like about
- 2:38Speaker 1: like how my dad, like how I learned how to
- 2:41Speaker 1: play piano. But what I don't say a lot is
- 2:43Speaker 1: like basically, like I started writing songs, my dad used
- 2:46Speaker 1: to make me read the dictionary. You know what I'm saying,
- 2:48Speaker 1: Like every instance before I go outside, he used to
- 2:50Speaker 1: make me like learn like twenty words. So like when
- 2:53Speaker 1: it come to write songs, like basically like I can
- 2:56Speaker 1: think of any rhyming word, you know what I'm saying
- 2:57Speaker 1: on the fly. So it's like that helped me get
- 3:00Speaker 1: into like being able to be a good songwriter. Like
- 3:03Speaker 1: you was just saying, like how long it it takes
- 3:05Speaker 1: shit read the dictionary doing that?
- 3:10Speaker 2: This is at a young age, So when did you
- 3:12Speaker 2: start writing songs?
- 3:15Speaker 1: Like, well, I started writing songs when I was like ten,
- 3:17Speaker 1: like ten years old. Like first, like for yourself or
- 3:20Speaker 1: for somebody else. It's like it started from it really
- 3:22Speaker 1: started for like writing songs for females and shit like that.
- 3:25Speaker 1: Like I was like writing songs and then I was
- 3:27Speaker 1: like damn, Like I got into the bag of like
- 3:29Speaker 1: writing songs not just for male artists, but then like
- 3:31Speaker 1: I could write a song for a girl too. And
- 3:34Speaker 1: I was just like looking up to people like the
- 3:36Speaker 1: dream Neo, you know what I'm saying. R Kelly, Like
- 3:39Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, Kanye, like seeing like how
- 3:41Speaker 1: they were able to like get in the scene like
- 3:44Speaker 1: by being behind the scenes. Like I just was like
- 3:47Speaker 1: infatuated with the concept of being a star that nobody knew,
- 3:51Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. Like, so that's why I
- 3:53Speaker 1: like A what a love really feel at? For real?
- 3:55Speaker 3: What was that moment that you know struck you to
- 3:58Speaker 3: write your first song?
- 3:59Speaker 1: Did you could?
- 4:00Speaker 3: Was you in high school and you had a breakup
- 4:02Speaker 3: or was you with a crew of people who were
- 4:05Speaker 3: musicians and you say I'll be the songwriters?
- 4:07Speaker 1: Actually, Like I played football, you know what I'm saying,
- 4:10Speaker 1: in high school and I would hope So I played football,
- 4:15Speaker 1: and what I used to do after football practice, I
- 4:18Speaker 1: would on the way home. There was a guy named
- 4:20Speaker 1: Mark Pratt, and he had like a studio in his
- 4:22Speaker 1: basement and basically like he would let the football players
- 4:25Speaker 1: like come over and make music. But like a couple
- 4:28Speaker 1: of weeks in like I was like the last person
- 4:30Speaker 1: down there. Like I used to come down there after
- 4:32Speaker 1: practice every day and just like write songs and like
- 4:35Speaker 1: perfect my craft and like that's that's basically like what
- 4:39Speaker 1: I really fell in love, like cause like coming up,
- 4:42Speaker 1: like it was a real struggle, and like music was
- 4:44Speaker 1: like my escape from reality. You know what I'm saying.
- 4:46Speaker 1: It's what allowed me to be able to have that
- 4:48Speaker 1: outlet when I you know, just needed you know, I
- 4:51Speaker 1: needed a hug sometimes, like on some real shit. And
- 4:53Speaker 1: I feel like music get people, Music gets people through things,
- 4:57Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. So that's when I really
- 4:58Speaker 1: like fell in love, like doing it for real.
- 5:01Speaker 4: Yeah, So fast forward and so you started doing your
- 5:03Speaker 4: own music. Yeah, what was your first big placement? Man,
- 5:08Speaker 4: I really had like a bunch of placements at one time.
- 5:10Speaker 1: Like when I did my publishing deal with APG locked
- 5:13Speaker 1: in with hit Maker, I basically had like I probably
- 5:16Speaker 1: had like twenty songs come out like the first like
- 5:19Speaker 1: week like that, I was like getting popping, like it
- 5:22Speaker 1: wasn't even like a one song. And then it was
- 5:24Speaker 1: just like but you got to remember, like before I
- 5:27Speaker 1: had my first placement, I was writing like ten songs
- 5:29Speaker 1: a day every day, you know what I'm saying, like NonStop,
- 5:32Speaker 1: even before I have my.
- 5:33Speaker 3: Deal for people around the town or just for.
- 5:36Speaker 1: Just writing songs. It's building up my catalog. That's why
- 5:38Speaker 1: I always tell like songwriters, like you got to build
- 5:41Speaker 1: up your catalog. If somebody called me for a song
- 5:44Speaker 1: for making right now, I probably got thirty that I
- 5:47Speaker 1: could send them, opposed to me being like all right,
- 5:49Speaker 1: let me go work on something. Sometimes you like catch
- 5:51Speaker 1: a hit in a moment that you just gotta be
- 5:54Speaker 1: ready for. So always believe in like being prepared, like
- 5:57Speaker 1: way ahead. So like I'll building on my catalog, so
- 6:00Speaker 1: nobody particular, just like just penning records. You know what
- 6:03Speaker 1: I'm saying, like sharpening my sword.
- 6:05Speaker 3: How did you initially get the interest of your publishing company?
- 6:09Speaker 1: Before Hit Maker, I ain't have no songs out, I
- 6:12Speaker 1: had no place. Like it's insane to get a publishing
- 6:15Speaker 1: deal without a placement at least one, you know, what
- 6:17Speaker 1: I'm saying or even being in the business. But Ray Daniels.
- 6:22Speaker 1: I met Ray Daniels. Yep, I met Ray Daniels for real,
- 6:26Speaker 1: like this. The crazy story about Ray is basically like Ray. Like.
- 6:31Speaker 1: I had a meeting with Ray like before, and he
- 6:33Speaker 1: was like, man, you know what, if you work on
- 6:35Speaker 1: your hooks, you'll be one of the greatest songwriters. This
- 6:37Speaker 1: was like six months before I saw him again. And
- 6:41Speaker 1: that's why I always tell people like, man, listen, if
- 6:43Speaker 1: you get that, no, go back to the drawing board.
- 6:46Speaker 1: Reinvent yourself, get better. You know what I'm saying. Don't
- 6:48Speaker 1: ever think like, oh, they tripping because they don't like
- 6:51Speaker 1: my music. You know what I'm saying. Sometimes you got
- 6:53Speaker 1: to go back. He basically told me, like, work on
- 6:54Speaker 1: your hooks. You are already a worseman. Work on your hooks.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Work on the part that brings people in. Two months later,
- 7:01Speaker 1: I had another meeting with Ray Daniels, sat down for
- 7:03Speaker 1: a set down with him, and I went to his office.
- 7:06Speaker 1: The first day I sat in his office, he wrote
- 7:07Speaker 1: me a check right there for twenty grand At the
- 7:10Speaker 1: time when I was at the time, I was doing
- 7:12Speaker 1: construction for work. You know what, I'm saying. MYNJA was
- 7:15Speaker 1: still coming home writing ten songs a night. I was
- 7:18Speaker 1: doing construction, and like I had like a big opportunity,
- 7:21Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, to go and like work
- 7:23Speaker 1: for Disney, you know what I'm saying. In Orlando. But
- 7:26Speaker 1: Ray was basically like, man, say no to that job.
- 7:28Speaker 1: You're a songwriter. You belong in his business. Once I
- 7:32Speaker 1: took that check, he let me put my studio in
- 7:36Speaker 1: the room next to his office at the twelve Buildings.
- 7:40Speaker 1: So if you ever been over to that building, it
- 7:41Speaker 1: ain't it ain't sound proof or nothing. Keys was in there.
- 7:44Speaker 1: It was a lot of real, real keys. Yeah, you
- 7:47Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, Like was in that building. He
- 7:49Speaker 1: let me put my studio in the room right next
- 7:51Speaker 1: door to him, so I would be like making song,
- 7:54Speaker 1: got the song, got the song, just putting in that work.
- 7:56Speaker 1: So even after I ended up signing the radar, I
- 8:00Speaker 1: still had to put in that work. It wasn't just
- 8:01Speaker 1: like here here here. I still was putting in that work,
- 8:04Speaker 1: going in there, clocking in, going to work, doing my job,
- 8:07Speaker 1: coming back to the studio. Until one day Ray had
- 8:10Speaker 1: went out to La met with Mike, Karen and was like, yo,
- 8:15Speaker 1: he Actually the crazy thing is he went out there
- 8:17Speaker 1: to show Mike Hearn somebody else. That's why I know,
- 8:19Speaker 1: like you know what I'm saying, God got his hand
- 8:21Speaker 1: on my life because he went out there and he
- 8:23Speaker 1: went to show Mike Carron a whole other artist that
- 8:26Speaker 1: he said. Now Mike Karen said no to He was like,
- 8:28Speaker 1: show me something else, and I was the something else
- 8:31Speaker 1: that he had. So it was like, and Mike Karen,
- 8:34Speaker 1: Mike Karen is the president of APG, he's been he
- 8:37Speaker 1: responsible for like ed Sharon Bruno mar like he a
- 8:41Speaker 1: big deal. What'd you do with the twenty thousand survived?
- 8:47Speaker 1: Everybody asked me that question, like but people think like
- 8:50Speaker 1: twenty thousand. You know what I'm saying today, that ain't
- 8:52Speaker 1: no money if you're handling your business, you know, But
- 8:55Speaker 1: to a kid like might look at it and be like, hey,
- 8:57Speaker 1: I'm about to go do this. Somebody go do that,
- 8:59Speaker 1: and then before you know what, they back like knocking
- 9:01Speaker 1: at their door like, man, you see me another ten thousand.
- 9:04Speaker 1: But but that's how people be blowing their money.
- 9:06Speaker 4: I asked you that because I realized in the industry,
- 9:10Speaker 4: when people get a check, whether it's a little check
- 9:12Speaker 4: or a big check.
- 9:13Speaker 1: They quit their job and they think that they made it.
- 9:16Speaker 4: I like the fact that you got the money and
- 9:18Speaker 4: you said, man, I'm still about to keep going to
- 9:19Speaker 4: work and then coming back doing my music.
- 9:21Speaker 1: Man, you have to like you have to have financial literacy, man.
- 9:24Speaker 1: But that's that's really what you know, most people like
- 9:27Speaker 1: lacking because you got to think like people that do
- 9:29Speaker 1: music most of the time, like they come from a
- 9:32Speaker 1: poverty stricken environment. You know, we're not taught about credit.
- 9:35Speaker 1: We're not talking about the importance of importance of taking
- 9:38Speaker 1: care of your money and handling your business, paying your
- 9:40Speaker 1: bills first and then getting the drip. We weren't taught that.
- 9:43Speaker 1: You know. We taught go get the new ja's you
- 9:45Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, because they dropping, you know, the whip. Yeah.
- 9:48Speaker 1: So it's not taught that in our community. So it's like,
- 9:51Speaker 1: you know, we all of course we made mistakes. I'm
- 9:54Speaker 1: not gonna say I ain't gonna buy something with the
- 9:56Speaker 1: twenty grand What did you bott What did I na? Man?
- 10:00Speaker 1: And I like, I always wanted the ice ice, So
- 10:02Speaker 1: I ain't gonna get no chain or nothing. I went
- 10:04Speaker 1: and I bought a car. I bought a car. I
- 10:07Speaker 1: think I think I took like ten thousand of it
- 10:09Speaker 1: and went and bought a car. It was a nineteen
- 10:13Speaker 1: seventy two Shavy nov Okay, so that was like she
- 10:17Speaker 1: bought some transportation. Yeah, in the classic cars. Yeah. No,
- 10:23Speaker 1: I actually build like muscle cars, you know what I'm saying,
- 10:25Speaker 1: Like I build muscle cars, track race cards all that.
- 10:29Speaker 1: So how'd you get with him? Maker? Mike Carron actually
- 10:31Speaker 1: put me in here make on texts. When I did
- 10:33Speaker 1: my publishing deal, he put me in here, make on texts.
- 10:36Speaker 1: He was like, you know, guaranteed magic. The first night
- 10:39Speaker 1: I went to the studio with Hit, we we went
- 10:42Speaker 1: in the studio, we did like ten songs. It's me
- 10:45Speaker 1: Hit Krashan And we did like ten songs that first night,
- 10:49Speaker 1: and like we probably got like three placements out of
- 10:51Speaker 1: those first ten songs we did. But like, bro, we
- 10:54Speaker 1: basically been locked in every since, Like you know what
- 10:56Speaker 1: I'm saying, Like it been like some real you know,
- 10:58Speaker 1: we're from the same town, so like it being like
- 11:00Speaker 1: some some real brother shit, Like you know what I'm saying,
- 11:03Speaker 1: not just like helping me get into situations, but like
- 11:06Speaker 1: you know, giving me the knowledge, you know what I'm
- 11:08Speaker 1: saying of the game, Like you got somebody that came
- 11:10Speaker 1: from being an artist transitioned into being a producer, changing
- 11:14Speaker 1: his whole you know what I'm saying, identity and that
- 11:16Speaker 1: you can learn a lot from a man and have
- 11:17Speaker 1: done that in his business. It's still successful. Branded himself
- 11:21Speaker 1: for real, for real. So you know what I'm saying.
- 11:23Speaker 1: I was blessed to be, you know, tapping with him
- 11:25Speaker 1: and then like you know, other relationships happen. You know,
- 11:27Speaker 1: just throw me just putting in that work day in
- 11:29Speaker 1: day out, you know what I'm saying, being persistent.
- 11:31Speaker 5: We'll be right back with more of a Baller Alert Show.
- 11:38Speaker 5: You're listening to a special edition of the Baller Alert Show.
- 11:40Speaker 1: That what's up? It's your boy, Iris Scott and you've
- 11:42Speaker 1: now tuned into the Baller Alert Show.
- 11:44Speaker 2: So you signed the radar. Yeah, you got to check
- 11:47Speaker 2: for twenty thousand. You're working, you have purpose, you know
- 11:51Speaker 2: what you want to do? Yeah, when did these twenty
- 11:54Speaker 2: placements come? So?
- 11:56Speaker 1: Man, it had to be okay? So so I went
- 11:59Speaker 1: I went to La to go to APG, and I
- 12:02Speaker 1: didn't get signed to APG right away, So I went
- 12:05Speaker 1: and I went out there and Mike Karen basically was like,
- 12:08Speaker 1: you know, here's a studio. You know what I'm saying,
- 12:10Speaker 1: show me what you got. He's like, act like you ain't.
- 12:13Speaker 1: You ain't play one song for me. And so I
- 12:15Speaker 1: basically like I had the opportunity to do a session
- 12:19Speaker 1: in the morning, midday, and then at night, but I
- 12:22Speaker 1: took all sessions. I took every session, So I worked
- 12:24Speaker 1: three sessions a day. I was doing like ten songs
- 12:26Speaker 1: a session, going crazy. That's thirty songs a day. And
- 12:28Speaker 1: I was out there for like a month. Wow, mind
- 12:30Speaker 1: you right the day before when I when I went
- 12:33Speaker 1: down there. The day before I went down there, I
- 12:35Speaker 1: broke my foot skateboarding. So I went down there with
- 12:38Speaker 1: a boot, like you know, a little strap up boot
- 12:40Speaker 1: they go on your foot. So I, mind you, I
- 12:42Speaker 1: got a boot. I'm in La probably you know what
- 12:44Speaker 1: I'm saying, Like moving around studio to studio. You know
- 12:47Speaker 1: what I'm saying on crutches with a broke foot and
- 12:50Speaker 1: basically trying to secure my destiny. You know what I'm saying,
- 12:54Speaker 1: because you know, like your moments only only come every
- 12:56Speaker 1: so often. And I knew for sure like this was
- 12:59Speaker 1: this was my moment it to be you know Jordan
- 13:01Speaker 1: at the free throw line. So like I went down there,
- 13:04Speaker 1: broke foot and all I was in the studio Mai
- 13:06Speaker 1: my foot swelling in pain. But I was going through it,
- 13:09Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, And I did what I
- 13:11Speaker 1: had to do. When I want to skateboard for basically,
- 13:14Speaker 1: bro like I want to do everything, like I don't
- 13:17Speaker 1: want to try whatever for So what songs came out
- 13:20Speaker 1: of it was that the twenty that eventually yeah so
- 13:22Speaker 1: so no, so when I when I went down there,
- 13:26Speaker 1: I wrote those songs and then I those songs just
- 13:28Speaker 1: kind of like started manifesting into like other situations. What
- 13:33Speaker 1: were some of them songs? Trippy read Rich motherfucker that
- 13:37Speaker 1: was a big one with with Polo g Dirk Peru
- 13:41Speaker 1: was one of those songs. We did Baddest in San Francisco.
- 13:45Speaker 1: I mean that's the record. Yes, that's the year we
- 13:47Speaker 1: did the Baddest. Yeah, Baddest, Yeah, we did that in
- 13:50Speaker 1: San Francisco. But I mean it was just kind of
- 13:53Speaker 1: like all over the place like Madonna, like Beyonce, like
- 13:57Speaker 1: it was just like that's crazy, it's hitting me with
- 14:00Speaker 1: the wave.
- 14:01Speaker 2: And one time, So mentally, how what's the space here
- 14:03Speaker 2: are you in mentally at this particular moment, because.
- 14:06Speaker 1: Mind you, like people think you getting placements and you
- 14:09Speaker 1: rich instantly, but you ain't getting paid until next year
- 14:13Speaker 1: off any of those hits. So you can be walking
- 14:15Speaker 1: around with records number one and still basically be not
- 14:18Speaker 1: having no brand. So like, I'm in a lifestyle and
- 14:21Speaker 1: I'm around the people that's having the motion, having the money,
- 14:24Speaker 1: and I got the SIU broke, but I'm still broke,
- 14:27Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. I'm still grinding. I'm still
- 14:30Speaker 1: having to go pick up contracting jobs and build frame
- 14:33Speaker 1: houses on the side while I got records on the radio,
- 14:36Speaker 1: you know, so most of the time, like people might
- 14:39Speaker 1: think like, oh you hot. So of course all your
- 14:41Speaker 1: family's like, oh he rich. You know what I'm saying.
- 14:44Speaker 1: But I see you got the pictures with the celebrities,
- 14:46Speaker 1: they see all that. Yeah, the urt, Yeah for sure,
- 14:51Speaker 1: that's definitely. So what was that? What was that big check?
- 14:56Speaker 1: The biggest? You know, you getting a lot of checks,
- 15:01Speaker 1: he said, the biggest, biggest. I feel like when I
- 15:03Speaker 1: first saw the first check from Peru, that's when I
- 15:07Speaker 1: was a big record. Yeah, when I saw that. When
- 15:10Speaker 1: I saw that that quarter come around, and that's just
- 15:12Speaker 1: a quarter. When I saw that quarter come around, I
- 15:14Speaker 1: was like, and what is a quarter for the audience?
- 15:18Speaker 1: So a quarter is like yo, it's broken up into quarters,
- 15:21Speaker 1: like four quarters like artists songs for years calendar. Yeah, yeah,
- 15:24Speaker 1: you get paid like per quarter.
- 15:26Speaker 3: So is that spring, summer, fall, and winter?
- 15:29Speaker 1: Yeah? Basically basically, And so was this.
- 15:32Speaker 3: In the millions that you're publishing? Check came in?
- 15:36Speaker 1: Decent it it was good, six figures. It had changed
- 15:39Speaker 1: your life, show for show, seven figures, show it had
- 15:42Speaker 1: changed your life. What'd you go after you after you
- 15:44Speaker 1: got that check? Man? I went went. I went home
- 15:47Speaker 1: to Chicago and brought my moms out here. Bout my
- 15:50Speaker 1: mom's a crab in l A from Chicago, Atlanta, Atlanta. Okay.
- 15:56Speaker 1: I basically moved like my whole family down here. Okay,
- 16:00Speaker 1: I'm like super like.
- 16:01Speaker 2: That's actually fivefish because usually yeah, because usually you get
- 16:03Speaker 2: yourself together first and then but you got a family.
- 16:07Speaker 1: But you gotta think, like I was already still kind
- 16:09Speaker 1: of like making money, like I already had like you
- 16:11Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, like property and stuff like that.
- 16:14Speaker 1: When I first like started so like it wasn't like
- 16:17Speaker 1: I got my publishing deal and I was broke, Like
- 16:19Speaker 1: I basically had to downgrade my life actually to pursue music.
- 16:22Speaker 1: Because when I was doing construction, I was making good money,
- 16:25Speaker 1: you know what I'm talking about it, I was making money.
- 16:27Speaker 1: I was making an honest living. So like when I
- 16:30Speaker 1: took that twenty thousand, I mean it was basically less
- 16:32Speaker 1: than the salary that I was gonna see like in
- 16:35Speaker 1: the next couple months anyway, So it was really like,
- 16:38Speaker 1: you know, God like humbling me and bringing me back down.
- 16:41Speaker 1: I had to go down to come up for real.
- 16:43Speaker 3: Especially living in La for sure, and La balling is
- 16:46Speaker 3: different from.
- 16:46Speaker 1: Georgia bottom, that's true.
- 16:49Speaker 4: But I like you keeping it real, man, because I
- 16:51Speaker 4: don't I don't like this perception on the internet to
- 16:54Speaker 4: where it's like people think just because somebody has a
- 16:57Speaker 4: day job that they're making less money than people that
- 17:01Speaker 4: are popping on social media in his industry, and a
- 17:04Speaker 4: lot of times people don't understand it's like a lot
- 17:07Speaker 4: of these people that have these nine to five jobs
- 17:10Speaker 4: are making a lot more money than people that you
- 17:12Speaker 4: really think are successful.
- 17:14Speaker 1: I mean, like I call it the matrix all the time.
- 17:16Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, Like, the business is an
- 17:19Speaker 1: illusion because it has to be. You know, people, it's
- 17:21Speaker 1: hard for kids to look up to somebody that don't
- 17:23Speaker 1: feel like they got something that they don't have. So like,
- 17:26Speaker 1: you know, it's an illusion that artists have to keep
- 17:28Speaker 1: up of their selves in order to show that, hey,
- 17:31Speaker 1: I'm worthy of you looking up to me. So it's like,
- 17:34Speaker 1: but a man with a regular job, he might be
- 17:36Speaker 1: getting paper. It's just basically about like what you put
- 17:39Speaker 1: your ten thousand hours into. If I put my ten
- 17:41Speaker 1: thousand hours into being a carpenter, I'm gonna get paper
- 17:45Speaker 1: being a carpenter. It don't You don't got to be
- 17:47Speaker 1: Like I was just telling my little brother the other
- 17:50Speaker 1: day play he played football. I was just telling him
- 17:52Speaker 1: the other day. I'm like, you know, football is great,
- 17:55Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, But you gotta chase something
- 17:58Speaker 1: that is tasting you. You know what I'm saying. I
- 18:01Speaker 1: agree with that. So you know, you don't got to
- 18:05Speaker 1: be a superstar, you know what I'm saying, to have money,
- 18:06Speaker 1: you know, so.
- 18:08Speaker 2: You writing all these big records, what makes you say,
- 18:10Speaker 2: you know what, I want to be an artist. Is
- 18:12Speaker 2: that something that you initially wanted to do?
- 18:15Speaker 1: Yeah, I always like looked at myself as an artist
- 18:18Speaker 1: like I just always like looked at it. Like I
- 18:20Speaker 1: was telling you in the beginning. The people that I
- 18:22Speaker 1: looked up to, they were writers like first, so like
- 18:26Speaker 1: I was heavy like yo, yeah, like Neo to Dreams,
- 18:29Speaker 1: Sean Garrett like Rico. Love is so many like that
- 18:33Speaker 1: transition from becoming a songwriter. That was their path and
- 18:37Speaker 1: so like that, I always looked at my path like that,
- 18:39Speaker 1: Like I always like, you know, I'm gonna run it
- 18:41Speaker 1: up as a songwriter, get ht get people to know
- 18:44Speaker 1: my music, and then I'm introduce them to me. That's
- 18:46Speaker 1: a that's a plan. That's not a good plan to.
- 18:50Speaker 4: Who's some of the people that you that you've been
- 18:52Speaker 4: working with or has it been hard to get you know,
- 18:55Speaker 4: people that you've written for to be like yo, I
- 18:58Speaker 4: want you to jump on my song.
- 18:59Speaker 1: Yeah, I ain't gonna lie. It's been like crazy love.
- 19:02Speaker 1: Like you know a lot of times, like when I
- 19:04Speaker 1: go in with an artist, they be like man, when
- 19:06Speaker 1: you dropping the project, Like most Wow, most artists are
- 19:10Speaker 1: like super like championing me. And that's I mean that
- 19:13Speaker 1: kind of pushed me in a direction because it was like,
- 19:15Speaker 1: you know, seeing people that are successful being artists and
- 19:18Speaker 1: them to look at you and not not just look
- 19:20Speaker 1: at you as a reference singer or like even like
- 19:22Speaker 1: labels like getting my demos and asking me Like it's
- 19:26Speaker 1: before I did my deal with Monarch, it was labels
- 19:28Speaker 1: hitting me saying, Yo, who's who's on the reference? Who's
- 19:31Speaker 1: this singing though? Who who's this guy? Like it's always
- 19:34Speaker 1: been like that, so that I mean, it's meant.
- 19:37Speaker 4: Yeah, that sounds like with your own music, what's been
- 19:41Speaker 4: like the hardest thing for you to transition from a
- 19:45Speaker 4: songwriter to being your own artist.
- 19:47Speaker 1: I feel like the only tough thing is like allocating
- 19:50Speaker 1: time when I'm tapping into who I am and where
- 19:53Speaker 1: I'm working with other artists, because like when I when
- 19:57Speaker 1: I'm writing for artists, like if I'm in Madonna moo,
- 20:00Speaker 1: like I'm getting them a dynam I feel like when
- 20:02Speaker 1: I'm writing a song for a artist, it's got to
- 20:04Speaker 1: be true to the artists, gotta be like they did it.
- 20:06Speaker 1: It's got to be like they thought of it. So
- 20:08Speaker 1: I'm so true to it. So if I'm tapping in,
- 20:10Speaker 1: it's just like an actor stepping in to play a role.
- 20:13Speaker 1: You know. It's like when Denzel's being Denzel, he gotta
- 20:15Speaker 1: tap in. It's the same with songwriting. If you want
- 20:18Speaker 1: to be one of the greatest, you know, you gotta
- 20:20Speaker 1: tap into the artists. We're not just writing songs down,
- 20:22Speaker 1: We're you know, creating moments based off, you know, bouncing
- 20:25Speaker 1: off another artist.
- 20:26Speaker 4: So what mindset did you have to have when you're
- 20:29Speaker 4: writing a song for somebody like you know, Madonna, and
- 20:32Speaker 4: you gotta write a song and you gotta you know,
- 20:35Speaker 4: put this music out like you singing like a female.
- 20:37Speaker 1: Man, I ain't gonna lie I'm a researcher. Like when
- 20:40Speaker 1: I'm about to go in with the artists, I do
- 20:42Speaker 1: my research. I basically I start they Instagram captions, I
- 20:46Speaker 1: see what they talking about, I see what they interested.
- 20:49Speaker 1: I see. I'm gonna stalk it so that when I
- 20:52Speaker 1: walk into the room, like I can really kind of
- 20:54Speaker 1: like before I'm actually talking to it. Or sometimes I
- 20:56Speaker 1: might not even get in the room with the artists,
- 20:58Speaker 1: so like I tap in. Man, like I'm not gonna
- 21:02Speaker 1: lie in. I'm not even gonna say that, like it's
- 21:05Speaker 1: all me, you know what I'm saying God, you know
- 21:07Speaker 1: what I'm saying, gives me the power. He puts it
- 21:08Speaker 1: in me to be able to, you know, shape shift
- 21:11Speaker 1: and be a trippy red, be a Madonna, be a
- 21:14Speaker 1: Dirk all at the same time. Like, God, just put
- 21:16Speaker 1: that on my life. You know what I'm saying. For real?
- 21:18Speaker 2: Question, where are all these songs that do you write
- 21:20Speaker 2: on your phone? Like do you write it down? Because
- 21:23Speaker 2: at this point you got books.
- 21:24Speaker 1: Yeah, you're writing so much music or something. I don't
- 21:27Speaker 1: be honest with you, Like when I first started writing,
- 21:29Speaker 1: like I played piano and I play guitar. When I
- 21:32Speaker 1: first started writing, I would start off writing on the guitar,
- 21:35Speaker 1: so I would be writing down, you know, my songs.
- 21:37Speaker 1: But like in the past, like two years, like I
- 21:40Speaker 1: don't even I ain't wrote nothing down, Like you know
- 21:42Speaker 1: what I'm saying anywhere. It's in your head. It's just
- 21:44Speaker 1: be in my head. Like most of the time, I'll
- 21:46Speaker 1: just write. I'll just write you know what I'm saying,
- 21:48Speaker 1: like you will remember it for sure for sure, Like
- 21:52Speaker 1: I don't. I ain't wrote nothing down in a while,
- 21:54Speaker 1: to be honest.
- 21:55Speaker 5: We'll be right back. Stay tuned with more of the
- 21:58Speaker 5: Ball or Alert Show. You're listening to a special edition
- 22:08Speaker 5: of the Baller Alert Show.
- 22:09Speaker 1: Yo, what's up? It's your boy, I res Scott and
- 22:11Speaker 1: you've now tuned into the ball of Alert Show.
- 22:13Speaker 3: So what is your particular style? Like you you write
- 22:16Speaker 3: for everybody else, but what is your style?
- 22:19Speaker 1: My style is like a blend of like all those things,
- 22:22Speaker 1: Like I'm not like when I'm doing a song like
- 22:25Speaker 1: a dirt song, you know, I'm I'm speaking from a
- 22:29Speaker 1: place that I've been before. You know what I'm saying,
- 22:31Speaker 1: Like I've been like in the trenches. You know, when
- 22:34Speaker 1: I'm writing songs that are like country and sharing type
- 22:37Speaker 1: of songs, like I've been in those places, like I
- 22:39Speaker 1: went to school in Iowa. I've been in those environments.
- 22:43Speaker 1: So I'm true to everything. So like when you hear
- 22:46Speaker 1: I Rescott, it's gonna be a blend Like you, I
- 22:48Speaker 1: might have a song that's super R and B, but
- 22:51Speaker 1: then I might have a song on my project with Sukiyana.
- 22:55Speaker 3: When I say I think, I mean to say like
- 22:57Speaker 3: sound kind of well, like what is your sound like?
- 22:59Speaker 3: When you listen to the Dream record? You know what's
- 23:01Speaker 3: the dream versus if you listen to a Beyonce record?
- 23:04Speaker 3: That he wrote or neo, he has a certain sound
- 23:07Speaker 3: versus if he writes for somebody else, Like do you
- 23:10Speaker 3: have your own sound?
- 23:11Speaker 1: Yeah? Well, I feel like your sound is described by
- 23:14Speaker 1: the people. You know what I'm saying. When when the
- 23:16Speaker 1: consumer consumes you like that, they gonna take what they
- 23:19Speaker 1: love and then you give them more of that, you
- 23:21Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. But I agree with that. I'm versatile, man,
- 23:24Speaker 1: I'm just like sending out energy. Man, I'm trying to
- 23:28Speaker 1: send a real energy. You know what I'm saying to
- 23:31Speaker 1: people like I feel like whole say. You know what
- 23:33Speaker 1: I'm saying. First I had the ear, Now I got
- 23:35Speaker 1: their heart, you know what I'm saying, Like, I feel
- 23:37Speaker 1: like I want people to fall in love with the
- 23:39Speaker 1: person that I am, not just a tone that I
- 23:41Speaker 1: can do, because a tone of fade out, it'll get old,
- 23:44Speaker 1: you know. But if you're in love with the person,
- 23:45Speaker 1: it's nothing that they can do wrong.
- 23:47Speaker 3: So what's the new record that you have out? Do
- 23:49Speaker 3: you have an album or is it just singles?
- 23:51Speaker 1: Yeah? So first, I just recently dropped my single with
- 23:54Speaker 1: my brother Eric Belicher. Just like me, that things crazy,
- 23:57Speaker 1: they're like two million first week, But that was the
- 24:00Speaker 1: first single. Then the next single, We're about to Draw
- 24:02Speaker 1: with me feature in Queen Nije. It's a song called
- 24:04Speaker 1: My Mind, which is a banger. And then following that,
- 24:09Speaker 1: like shortly after that, we're gonna drop the first half
- 24:10Speaker 1: of my project, Ebony. It's called b You know what
- 24:13Speaker 1: I'm saying. Before Ebony, you got a plan? Man?
- 24:16Speaker 3: You know where's that name come from?
- 24:19Speaker 1: Well, basically, like it's the contrast to me. You know
- 24:21Speaker 1: what I'm saying. People might see me, they might be like, oh,
- 24:23Speaker 1: here a rapper. All he is, Oh he's an R
- 24:25Speaker 1: and B singer. But it's like I'm the contrast of
- 24:27Speaker 1: what you think. I'm the opposite of what you might
- 24:29Speaker 1: think of me. Are you signed? Yeah, my dad, my
- 24:32Speaker 1: artists deal with my nark okay, And how has that been?
- 24:35Speaker 1: It's been good? Good? You see me? What is that?
- 24:42Speaker 3: What are some of your lessons that you've learned so
- 24:45Speaker 3: far being being in the industry?
- 24:47Speaker 1: Man? Honestly, like when you meet good people in the business,
- 24:50Speaker 1: you gotta stay close to him because it's a rare thing.
- 24:53Speaker 1: Like this is a dark world, you know what I'm saying.
- 24:55Speaker 1: So I've just learned like to protect my energy and
- 24:58Speaker 1: also like take care, take here my money. You know
- 25:00Speaker 1: what I'm saying, and be productive. You know your moment
- 25:04Speaker 1: it can go as fast as it come for real,
- 25:06Speaker 1: So when you catch your moment and it's show time,
- 25:08Speaker 1: like stay keep your foot on their neck.
- 25:11Speaker 4: Who's some of your mentors man? Because you I'm just
- 25:14Speaker 4: listening to you talking. You sounded like a wise man.
- 25:17Speaker 4: Who's some some of the people that mentor you.
- 25:19Speaker 1: Man, I'm not gonna lie man like man the word
- 25:22Speaker 1: of God like guys me. You know what I'm saying,
- 25:24Speaker 1: Like you know what I'm saying. I don't have a
- 25:26Speaker 1: lot of people in my life that I could really
- 25:28Speaker 1: like look up to, you know what I'm saying. So
- 25:31Speaker 1: I just you know what I'm saying. I look to
- 25:32Speaker 1: God for my answers. You know what I'm saying. And
- 25:34Speaker 1: I'm inspired by like legends, you know what I'm saying.
- 25:37Speaker 1: And I see how they carry theyself. I see how
- 25:39Speaker 1: they moving, you know what I'm saying, Like people like Denzel,
- 25:42Speaker 1: people like Will Smith, you know, people like Kendrick Lamar,
- 25:45Speaker 1: Like you know, I see how they move. You know
- 25:46Speaker 1: what I'm saying, And you know I'm motivated by how
- 25:48Speaker 1: they move and the energy that they bring it to
- 25:49Speaker 1: the earth, and I feel like I gotta bring that energy.
- 25:52Speaker 1: That's just basically how I feel like. It's just like me,
- 25:54Speaker 1: just natural. Yes, some of your friends gonna be mad
- 25:57Speaker 1: at you with the answer though.
- 25:58Speaker 2: Yeah, before we get about of here, I do wanted
- 26:01Speaker 2: to ask, like, what is the relationship situation like life
- 26:05Speaker 2: look for you because you're doing you're a songwriter and
- 26:08Speaker 2: you're an artist. Do you have time for love life?
- 26:11Speaker 1: Yeah? I feel like it's I feel like it's two
- 26:14Speaker 1: different worlds. Like I feel like when I go to music,
- 26:16Speaker 1: I'm clocking into the world. I separate my worlds. You
- 26:19Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, Like, I'm not like like I'm
- 26:22Speaker 1: not like I'm giving myself to the world, but I'm
- 26:24Speaker 1: saving a part of myself for who I love. You
- 26:27Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, Like, I ain't giving. Is there
- 26:28Speaker 1: someone that you love for sure? Okay? Are you married
- 26:32Speaker 1: for sure? Okay?
- 26:34Speaker 3: As long have you been married since the beginning of
- 26:37Speaker 3: your career?
- 26:38Speaker 1: Okay for music? Because you deflect the nice and smooth right, Yeah,
- 26:47Speaker 1: now we're good.
- 26:48Speaker 3: So you like keep your private life private.
- 26:50Speaker 1: It's separate, separate world. Do you have any kids, yeah
- 26:54Speaker 1: for sure. Okay, separate world. Okay, I'm not.
- 26:58Speaker 3: Pretty young, so I'm like, I.
- 27:04Speaker 1: Like you want to see Yeah, I mean it's like
- 27:08Speaker 1: how much life have you had to have my wife
- 27:10Speaker 1: and kids and all that, Like you look really young? Okay,
- 27:14Speaker 1: back again, brother, Yeah, any time, I'm excited. Anything else
- 27:19Speaker 1: you got coming up? Projects coming up? I'm building, any
- 27:23Speaker 1: touring I'm gonna be. I'nna be coming out with some
- 27:25Speaker 1: of my homeboys making for show you got.
- 27:28Speaker 2: We're supposed to do the interview with him Maker, but
- 27:30Speaker 2: then we couldn't get the time.
- 27:32Speaker 1: Framework. Well we're work it out. That's my brother with
- 27:34Speaker 1: each other all the time for sure. And him Maker
- 27:37Speaker 1: is a good guy. No, for sure, I see him.
- 27:39Speaker 1: He not just champion me like if he if he
- 27:43Speaker 1: with you, he's gonna help you get in a position. It's
- 27:46Speaker 1: a lot of like you know, dark energy that like
- 27:49Speaker 1: people try to put on him, you know what I'm saying,
- 27:51Speaker 1: Like in his business that I see, But I ain't
- 27:53Speaker 1: got nothing but love for Bro for Bro for and
- 27:56Speaker 1: I've seen him like pick people up and put people
- 27:58Speaker 1: in position and get out the way. I'm saying, That's
- 28:00Speaker 1: what it's all about man, have you been performing and
- 28:03Speaker 1: all that? Nah? I haven't. Do you have a show
- 28:05Speaker 1: in mind?
- 28:06Speaker 5: Like?
- 28:07Speaker 1: Yeah, I got something I working on you? Nervous you
- 28:10Speaker 1: are you calling anybody? But are you calling anybody for advice?
- 28:14Speaker 5: Like?
- 28:15Speaker 3: You know Chris is a dancer. You know he's performing.
- 28:17Speaker 3: Are you going to be doing some choreography?
- 28:19Speaker 1: I guarantee you this. When IY Scott come out, it's
- 28:22Speaker 1: gonna be something you've never seen before it.
- 28:25Speaker 3: Well, like, is this gonna be like some Miguel where
- 28:27Speaker 3: you get the piercings in and you hang yourself.
- 28:30Speaker 1: No, it's gonna be Ivory Scott. Is that your real name? Yeah?
- 28:35Speaker 2: So that's on your drivers? Like, yeah, that's what?
- 28:38Speaker 1: Oh that's your real names? Say that? I mean Drew
- 28:44Speaker 1: Hill isn't a real person? Said? You're pulling up?
- 28:48Speaker 2: Brother?
- 28:50Speaker 1: I looking forward to this one. So cool.
- 28:52Speaker 3: Well, before get out of here, we got a pep
