- 0:03Speaker 2: I sure will. Good morning, everybody. You're listening to The
- 0:07Speaker 2: Voice now. Come on, dig me. One and only Steve Harvey.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Got a radio show. One more time, partner. Steve Harvey
- 0:14Speaker 2: got a radio show. Man, how amazing is that? How
- 0:21Speaker 2: good has God been to me? How good has he
- 0:25Speaker 2: been to you? Just check yourself sometimes. Just sit up
- 0:29Speaker 2: and just run a survey. Just look at your life
- 0:32Speaker 2: where it's at. It might not be where you want
- 0:35Speaker 2: it to be, but that's probably some decisions you made.
- 0:37Speaker 2: But really, though, in spite of all the crazy mistakes
- 0:42Speaker 2: I done made, I mean, man, I look back at
- 0:47Speaker 2: some of the decisions I done came up with, and, man,
- 0:50Speaker 2: it's just amazing he let me live. I mean, and
- 0:55Speaker 2: to exist the way I exist, that's nothing but grace, mercy, favor.
- 1:00Speaker 1: All that is.
- 1:01Speaker 2: That's what my mama praying for me when I wasn't
- 1:03Speaker 2: praying for myself. That had to be it because, man,
- 1:06Speaker 2: I can truly tell you, I have made enough mistakes, man,
- 1:11Speaker 2: stuff you would never even know about and recovered from
- 1:14Speaker 2: them all.
- 1:16Speaker 1: You can too. And I don't care what you've done.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Marvin Sapp has a song out that says, He saw
- 1:23Speaker 2: the best in me. When everyone else around me could
- 1:27Speaker 2: only see the worst in me. You know, that's an
- 1:30Speaker 2: important song, man. Especially, you know, I want to talk
- 1:35Speaker 2: to men today. Because, man, being a man is so,
- 1:42Speaker 2: so difficult. Please know, it has been my quest ever
- 1:48Speaker 2: since I was a little boy. My father had one ambition. son,
- 1:53Speaker 2: I don't care what you do, but when I get
- 1:56Speaker 2: through raising you, you will be a man. That's all
- 1:59Speaker 2: I want you to be. He never cared what I
- 2:01Speaker 2: did for a living. It never made a difference to him.
- 2:04Speaker 2: You're going to be a man. Manhood is difficult. Now,
- 2:07Speaker 2: ladies that's listening to this, I'm not saying womanhood ain't,
- 2:11Speaker 2: I don't know what it takes to be a woman. So,
- 2:14Speaker 2: you know, but I do know exactly what it takes
- 2:17Speaker 2: to be a man. So, you know, sometimes when you
- 2:20Speaker 2: talk to people on the radio, you have to, preface
- 2:23Speaker 2: things because people are just go, he trying to make
- 2:25Speaker 2: it look like womanhood. Ain't no, that's not what I'm doing.
- 2:28Speaker 2: I'm just talking to men today to explain to them
- 2:31Speaker 2: that they ain't by their self and struggling, trying to
- 2:34Speaker 2: figure this thing out, that you are not alone in
- 2:37Speaker 2: your quest for manhood.
- 2:38Speaker 1: That is difficult.
- 2:40Speaker 2: I gotta, I gotta tell you, man, manhood is that
- 2:45Speaker 2: kind of difficult and it becomes even more compounded. If
- 2:49Speaker 2: a young boy does not have a male role model,
- 2:53Speaker 2: I've said it a thousand times.
- 2:54Speaker 1: I'll say it again.
- 2:56Speaker 2: A young boy without a male role model is like
- 2:59Speaker 2: an explorer without a map. Well, I have a suggestion
- 3:03Speaker 2: for everybody that's struggling with manhood and all of the
- 3:06Speaker 2: men out there that are men. This message is for
- 3:09Speaker 2: all of us. And it's for me, too. You know,
- 3:11Speaker 2: I was listening to Joyce Myers the other day and
- 3:15Speaker 2: she made a statement. She said, sometimes you've got to
- 3:18Speaker 2: do the right thing, even when it feels wrong. You know,
- 3:23Speaker 2: one of the difficulties of manhood is peer pressure and
- 3:29Speaker 2: the misguided principles of manhood. See, what God wants us
- 3:35Speaker 2: to be as men and what we believe manhood is,
- 3:39Speaker 2: is sometimes two different things. I'll give you an example.
- 3:43Speaker 2: I wrote this book for women, right? And I was
- 3:46Speaker 2: telling them the three ways that a man shows his love.
- 3:49Speaker 2: And I called them three P's. We profess, we protect,
- 3:54Speaker 2: and we provide. Every man who is a man, that's
- 3:58Speaker 2: how he exhibits love. We're not talky-talky, comforting. We're not
- 4:02Speaker 2: great nurturers. But when it comes down to it, what
- 4:05Speaker 2: we all want to do, what is in our DNA,
- 4:08Speaker 2: is to profess our love for something, you as a woman,
- 4:12Speaker 2: to protect you as a woman, and to provide for
- 4:14Speaker 2: you as a woman. That's in our DNA. Now, sometimes
- 4:17Speaker 2: that gets messed up. And I'll give you an example.
- 4:21Speaker 2: Sometimes when a boy doesn't have the proper real role
- 4:24Speaker 2: model in his life, he takes that principle of love
- 4:27Speaker 2: that we all possess in us. Every man, the professing part,
- 4:30Speaker 2: the protecting and the providing part. And we misplay it.
- 4:35Speaker 2: That's why gangs exist. Gangs exist off those three principles.
- 4:40Speaker 2: What's the first thing a gang member do?
- 4:42Speaker 1: He profess. He claim a hood.
- 4:45Speaker 2: That's the first thing you do. This is my neighborhood.
- 4:48Speaker 2: I'm Deuce Trey. I'm Triple H gang. I'm doop-de-doop.
- 4:51Speaker 1: I'm purple. I'm red. I'm blue. First thing they do
- 4:54Speaker 1: is claim. That's professing. That's how we show our love.
- 4:57Speaker 1: But it's misguided, though. Now we're professing something that ain't
- 5:02Speaker 1: even good for us. Your hood, your gang, your clique.
- 5:05Speaker 2: Now, guess what? Now we got to protect it. So now,
- 5:11Speaker 2: as a protection part of our love, here we go.
- 5:14Speaker 2: You come down here. We're going to do this to you.
- 5:17Speaker 2: You go over there. They're going to do that to you.
- 5:20Speaker 2: You protect your hood. This is your turf. This is
- 5:22Speaker 2: all you got. Ain't nobody coming down here with blue on.
- 5:25Speaker 2: Can't nobody come over here with red on. You can't
- 5:26Speaker 2: come over here with purple on. You can't come over
- 5:28Speaker 2: here with black and gold on. And we protect that
- 5:32Speaker 2: because that's in our DNA. And then what's the third thing?
- 5:35Speaker 2: We provide. So guess what the gang need?
- 5:37Speaker 1: Money.
- 5:38Speaker 2: Guess what we do? We selling drugs. We selling women.
- 5:43Speaker 2: We selling guns. It go back to the same thing, man.
- 5:47Speaker 2: I don't know how God gave it to me that
- 5:49Speaker 2: way when I was writing the book, but he showed
- 5:51Speaker 2: it to me along the way. That's how men love. Well,
- 5:54Speaker 2: when you don't have a role model in your life,
- 5:55Speaker 2: guess what? Now that love is misplaced, is misguided, is
- 5:59Speaker 2: off track. Ain't no man told you that really you're
- 6:02Speaker 2: supposed to take this love and give it to a woman.
- 6:04Speaker 2: You really supposed to profess, protect and provide for a woman,
- 6:08Speaker 2: not your gang set. Now you professing your hood, repping
- 6:12Speaker 2: a color, you protecting your territory, shooting people, driving by,
- 6:16Speaker 2: coming over on your street, and then you provide. Now
- 6:19Speaker 2: you're out here selling drugs and guns for the same thing.
- 6:21Speaker 2: When a boy does not have a male role model,
- 6:24Speaker 2: he has a misguided way of looking at manhood.
- 6:29Speaker 1: Here's the deal. See, God created all.
- 6:32Speaker 2: Of us in his image. That means he's put some
- 6:35Speaker 2: of our DNA in him. That's why it's in your
- 6:38Speaker 2: DNA to profess, protect, and provide. Because guess what? That's
- 6:42Speaker 2: what God do for us. Because we his children. I'm
- 6:46Speaker 2: just talking to men right now. I'm just telling you, man,
- 6:49Speaker 2: I had to wake up about five years ago.
- 6:52Speaker 1: I wasn't doing what God wanted me to do.
- 6:55Speaker 2: And then he shook me. He said, man, I'm going
- 6:57Speaker 2: to bring about some changes in your life. I'm going
- 6:59Speaker 2: to cause some things to happen. That's going to put
- 7:02Speaker 2: you in a position. And this time you're going to
- 7:04Speaker 2: listen to me because if you don't, you're going to
- 7:07Speaker 2: keep living in this pain you've been in. But you
- 7:09Speaker 2: put yourself in this pain. I owe no blame to
- 7:12Speaker 2: no one else but myself. Please know I know that.
- 7:15Speaker 2: And that's how we really get to manhood. When you
- 7:18Speaker 2: figure out what you done wrong, you can't blame this
- 7:21Speaker 2: on none of your exes because you are man. You
- 7:23Speaker 2: can't go, my ex did this. No, no.
- 7:25Speaker 1: You're a man, partner.
- 7:27Speaker 2: You got to take responsibility for yours and yours alone.
- 7:30Speaker 2: If you got kids, you got to get to them
- 7:33Speaker 2: some kind of way. Write them a letter. Send them
- 7:36Speaker 2: the money. If she won't let you see it for
- 7:38Speaker 2: the money, whatever. Send the money to her mama. Do
- 7:41Speaker 2: what you're supposed to do as a man. Do what
- 7:44Speaker 2: God wants you to do, man, because he's not letting
- 7:47Speaker 2: us off the hook for what we're supposed to be
- 7:50Speaker 2: just because you ain't doing it. And if you do it,
- 7:52Speaker 2: You turn your life around. Just hollering at the fellas today.
- 7:55Speaker 1: That's all. Sorry about that. You're listening to the Steve
- 8:00Speaker 1: Harvey Morning Show.
