- 0:33Speaker 2: That game, of course, in Miami on Saturday. Mariners finally
- 0:38Speaker 2: back at it. Two nights after the All Star break,
- 0:41Speaker 2: they host the San Francisco Giants, opening up a three
- 0:45Speaker 2: game series. Bryce Miller on the mount against Landon Roupe,
- 0:48Speaker 2: first pitch at seven to ten. The team also reportedly
- 0:52Speaker 2: going to be giving their pitching stat the six man
- 0:55Speaker 2: rotation treatment. We'll see how long that lasts. But Bryce Miller,
- 0:59Speaker 2: Brian Wu Logan, Gilbert Emerson, Hancock, Luis Castillo, George George
- 1:05Speaker 2: Kirby all love you come on down looking like they
- 1:07Speaker 2: will pitch before the Mariners head back out on the road.
- 1:11Speaker 3: That was very price with bright Price is right, Price.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Is right, Come on down. Don't call me Rod Roddy.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Please don't call me Rod Roddy Saunders. Oh boy, just
- 1:20Speaker 2: didn't get thrashed. They got the wheels beaten off them
- 1:24Speaker 2: last night, but the Timbers losing five to one. Brian
- 1:26Speaker 2: Schmitzer led it all air outs post game last night
- 1:30Speaker 2: in the NBA, Lebron Gay continues the non decision keeps
- 1:35Speaker 2: going here for those who actually care, we're waiting for it,
- 1:38Speaker 2: saying that he has not yet decided on a team.
- 1:42Speaker 2: ESPN carried that I believe about roughly sixteen years ago,
- 1:45Speaker 2: the decision with Jim Gray. Yeah, if you do it
- 1:48Speaker 2: this time, are they? Are they going to do it
- 1:49Speaker 2: on Stadium plus.
- 1:52Speaker 4: Just oh call she zoom whatever teams some like some
- 1:56Speaker 4: gambling up there.
- 1:58Speaker 2: Here's Jim Gray back in his in his home office,
- 2:01Speaker 2: like with a hoodie on, maybe even pj's. That's so
- 2:03Speaker 2: anti twenty ten British Showpen update. We got more for
- 2:06Speaker 2: you later on, but Lucas Herbert in the lead at
- 2:09Speaker 2: the moment and plenty of players going low at Royal
- 2:14Speaker 2: Birkdale as we had of the finish line of Day two.
- 2:18Speaker 2: More of that coming up coming up here for the
- 2:20Speaker 2: British Open, and about roughly ten minutes or so onto
- 2:24Speaker 2: the show we go.
- 2:25Speaker 5: It kind of.
- 2:25Speaker 2: Feels like that we're at the recess period. I said
- 2:28Speaker 2: this for the Seattle sports landscape, really for everybody at
- 2:31Speaker 2: this point a year, it's like the quietest, most dead
- 2:33Speaker 2: part of the entire year.
- 2:35Speaker 5: Best sports schedule.
- 2:36Speaker 4: Do everything that you have to do for vacation wise
- 2:40Speaker 4: during this week.
- 2:40Speaker 2: Yeah, Greg's out, Ian's out Softi's I don't know where
- 2:44Speaker 2: he is.
- 2:44Speaker 5: He's due back in next week at some point. So
- 2:46Speaker 5: we're just kind of making all.
- 2:47Speaker 3: These pieces of course somewhere.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Yes, Yeah, he's got his he's got his massive endorsement money.
- 2:52Speaker 2: He's probably slinging it around, you know, some private club
- 2:55Speaker 2: guests who I guess.
- 2:56Speaker 3: We do not want to know what club he's at.
- 3:01Speaker 5: I can't wait for next Monday, just the Pepperinc. Questions.
- 3:04Speaker 5: I'll be back in later on next week.
- 3:05Speaker 2: Jackson's also going to be holding the fourth down with
- 3:08Speaker 2: Greg still do out here for a few days, but
- 3:10Speaker 2: he's back soon. Yet, we got a lot to cover
- 3:13Speaker 2: because it kind of feels like this is the calm
- 3:15Speaker 2: before the storm, the calm before the storm. The Seahawks
- 3:21Speaker 2: are about eight days away roughly from training camp. This
- 3:25Speaker 2: is the last weekend off that we have without any
- 3:29Speaker 2: kind of football until next February. Can you believe it?
- 3:33Speaker 2: We've almost hit the finish line. We have almost hit
- 3:37Speaker 2: the waiting period finish line for the Seahawks. It just
- 3:41Speaker 2: seemed like yesterday that we were all packing in the lumen,
- 3:44Speaker 2: packing the streets right around downtown Seattle, with the parade
- 3:49Speaker 2: going right by and basking in championship glory Lombardi Trophy
- 3:53Speaker 2: number two. But now the weight will finally be over
- 3:56Speaker 2: after next weekend, right back to Virginia may An Athletic Center,
- 4:01Speaker 2: and then tonight the Mariners finally get a going out
- 4:05Speaker 2: of the blocks here for the second half of the
- 4:07Speaker 2: regular season. Whereas about three months ago, I believe one
- 4:11Speaker 2: of my dear friends and filling in after me for
- 4:13Speaker 2: Ian Chris Crawford, said, I demand a world Series. Well,
- 4:19Speaker 2: here are the Mariners one and a half games back
- 4:22Speaker 2: in what has been a putred, a putred American League West,
- 4:28Speaker 2: and for as much gritting and gnashing of teeth as
- 4:32Speaker 2: we can make about this baseball team. They are still
- 4:35Speaker 2: in the playoffs if they began today. So the work
- 4:39Speaker 2: really begins now and we're going to get to I
- 4:43Speaker 2: think a few reasons why Jess this homestand against the
- 4:47Speaker 2: Giants who are just a five alarm tire fire, the Reds,
- 4:52Speaker 2: who are a five.
- 4:53Speaker 5: Alarm tire fire.
- 4:54Speaker 2: You cannot overlook this homestand because of what is waiting
- 4:59Speaker 2: a the corner. And I hate cliches where you want
- 5:03Speaker 2: to take care of business, but they really have to
- 5:06Speaker 2: take care of business because we've seen questions of when's
- 5:10Speaker 2: Kal gonna wake up, When's Julio going to wake up?
- 5:13Speaker 2: When's Brendan Donovan going to come out of the protection program?
- 5:17Speaker 1: Here?
- 5:17Speaker 5: Where? I mean, where the heck is he?
- 5:19Speaker 2: We finally found out that that back in Arizona, his
- 5:22Speaker 2: rehab is getting going here, but it's been forever since
- 5:25Speaker 2: we've seen him. Are they going to trade somebody for
- 5:27Speaker 2: a right handed bat? Are they going to trade somebody
- 5:29Speaker 2: here for this bullpen? There are just so many questions
- 5:32Speaker 2: circling this baseball team, which the most important one is
- 5:37Speaker 2: just don't go out at home and lay an egg
- 5:40Speaker 2: against the Giants and the.
- 5:41Speaker 4: Reds bring the fans back in. I think, you know,
- 5:45Speaker 4: we have to think outside of the box. Besides what's
- 5:47Speaker 4: going on, you know on the field is bring the
- 5:51Speaker 4: fans back in because that plays can be so much
- 5:54Speaker 4: fun and there's no way the players don't feed off
- 5:56Speaker 4: of it.
- 5:57Speaker 2: Well, you remember last year in the postseason, right, yeah?
- 6:00Speaker 2: I remember the text message from Jackson Felts when we
- 6:02Speaker 2: were all in the press box for Game one of
- 6:05Speaker 2: the Alds and Jackson said, holy cow, this and this
- 6:09Speaker 2: is also in the first inning. Holy cow, it sounds
- 6:13Speaker 2: like third down at Lumen.
- 6:15Speaker 3: Now that is a compliment.
- 6:18Speaker 5: For a sports town that creates earthquakes.
- 6:21Speaker 2: For the World Cup, for the NFL postseason, baseball postseason,
- 6:28Speaker 2: that sounds like third down at Luhman, tell me about
- 6:30Speaker 2: this one. Stanley Cup playoffs here in Seattle sound like
- 6:33Speaker 2: third down at Lumen. That was for Game three against
- 6:36Speaker 2: Cal Theorada back in twenty twenty three. So you've got
- 6:38Speaker 2: to make your hay here at home. But we're just
- 6:41Speaker 2: kind of at the point now where it's gonna be
- 6:43Speaker 2: just really ramping up call before the storm is as
- 6:46Speaker 2: we say, pardon the cliche. I hate cliches. I'll do
- 6:48Speaker 2: it anyway here, But the World Cup's almost over as well.
- 6:51Speaker 2: That will come to an end on Sunday. You got
- 6:54Speaker 2: some beef here with this thing ending in East Ruth
- 6:58Speaker 2: for New Jersey.
- 7:00Speaker 5: Anywhere else?
- 7:01Speaker 3: I sure do?
- 7:02Speaker 5: I mean, listen, I get it.
- 7:03Speaker 2: I mean New York is New York number one market
- 7:06Speaker 2: in the country. Yes, it's just like, say, we're gonna
- 7:10Speaker 2: end this in San Francisco, but do this in Santa Clara.
- 7:13Speaker 4: Yes, kind of, except it's a completely different state. Yeap, Yes,
- 7:19Speaker 4: I think that they could have chosen better when it
- 7:21Speaker 4: comes to it. However, East Rutherford, New Jersey, does have
- 7:25Speaker 4: the New York market when it comes to television and
- 7:29Speaker 4: the broadcasting intentions.
- 7:32Speaker 3: I have.
- 7:33Speaker 4: Sorry if you could tell by my voice, New Jersey
- 7:36Speaker 4: is not the representative of the home continent that this
- 7:41Speaker 4: World Cup is taking place.
- 7:44Speaker 5: You grew up there? How many times?
- 7:45Speaker 3: I did not grow up there.
- 7:46Speaker 5: I grew up in New York exactly.
- 7:48Speaker 2: I should say this, like, how many times do you
- 7:51Speaker 2: have people that you know come from Jersey and say
- 7:55Speaker 2: I'm from New York And if.
- 7:56Speaker 5: You do have, hell do you get lapped out?
- 7:58Speaker 4: Nobody who's actually from Jersey ever, ever, would say that means.
- 8:02Speaker 5: That lies a problem, that there lies a problem, are.
- 8:05Speaker 3: Proud of it.
- 8:06Speaker 4: So this is happening in New Jersey, which has really
- 8:10Speaker 4: good pizza and a couple good beaches with some really
- 8:12Speaker 4: weird people on them. So I'll give them a lot
- 8:16Speaker 4: of credit for everything that they have. However, that is
- 8:21Speaker 4: not the stage that I would put this global event on.
- 8:25Speaker 5: And it's just a bear getting out there too, to
- 8:27Speaker 5: that state.
- 8:28Speaker 3: Eum, oh, it's just it's horrible.
- 8:29Speaker 2: You were there back in the Super Bowl back in Yes,
- 8:32Speaker 2: I was thirteen years ago, Yes, twelve years ago.
- 8:34Speaker 5: When the sea goes to.
- 8:36Speaker 4: The winter of twenty fourteen. Yes, and no, it was
- 8:41Speaker 4: not fun. And the commute is really not easy and
- 8:45Speaker 4: that whole place is going to get swarmed.
- 8:47Speaker 3: It's going to be very, very difficult for everyone.
- 8:50Speaker 4: And I'm not saying that any host city would be
- 8:53Speaker 4: easy to get around, but the logistics when it comes
- 8:57Speaker 4: to there, because obviously, like let's say it's Spain in Argentina, right,
- 9:01Speaker 4: you're traveling from across the world, so you are going
- 9:06Speaker 4: to probably stay in New York City probably probably, if
- 9:11Speaker 4: you're correct, I would stay on a beach somewhere, But
- 9:16Speaker 4: the commute will be very difficult.
- 9:19Speaker 2: Listen, I get all the business logistics here behind this.
- 9:21Speaker 2: I get just the whole you know, market optics behind
- 9:25Speaker 2: this with going to New York. But I mean again,
- 9:29Speaker 2: I'm going to open talkbacks here. In the text message
- 9:31Speaker 2: four nine four or five ons a coomadadge text line,
- 9:33Speaker 2: if you if you ran this, would you play this elsewhere?
- 9:36Speaker 2: Would you play it in Los Angeles? Technically Inglewood as
- 9:41Speaker 2: so far? Would you play it here? Would you play
- 9:43Speaker 2: it here? Seattle did an unbelievable job.
- 9:47Speaker 5: How many times?
- 9:48Speaker 2: How many times did we hear over and over word
- 9:51Speaker 2: on the street to national broadcast? Seattle was maybe the
- 9:55Speaker 2: most impressive turnout with fans, support, in the stadium and
- 10:01Speaker 2: all around it compared to any other market in this
- 10:05Speaker 2: World Cup.
- 10:06Speaker 4: Absolutely, And I think the major concern, which is why
- 10:09Speaker 4: we haven't had a Super Bowl here is hotel space.
- 10:13Speaker 3: And now since.
- 10:17Speaker 4: A long time we have the light rail, we have
- 10:20Speaker 4: more mass transit that we've had in the past when
- 10:24Speaker 4: people were considering major events here. There's a lot more
- 10:28Speaker 4: that we have to offer. But I do understand the
- 10:31Speaker 4: concern when it comes to the capacity.
- 10:35Speaker 2: I want to hear your talkbacks on this and also
- 10:36Speaker 2: the text messages four nine four five one to Komodos
- 10:39Speaker 2: text line, but top backs are open, the doors are open.
- 10:42Speaker 5: I want to hear from you.
- 10:43Speaker 2: Would you put this World Cup elsewhere for the final
- 10:45Speaker 2: besides Eastweather?
- 10:46Speaker 5: For a New Jersey?
- 10:47Speaker 2: And was Seattle enough to show you that they could
- 10:49Speaker 2: host a final New Jersey?
- 10:52Speaker 5: Is this not going to leave you?
- 10:54Speaker 4: No? It's it's like born in my bones, is it?
- 10:58Speaker 4: Because when I say I'm from Long Island and everyone
- 11:01Speaker 4: assumes it's New Jersey, and that is a very, very wresh.
- 11:04Speaker 2: I have the perfect antidote, by the way, the dulcal
- 11:07Speaker 2: tones of Aaron Goldsmith, who'll be joining us right around
- 11:09Speaker 2: the corner of Mariners TV play by play, because the
- 11:11Speaker 2: Mariners open the second half of the season tonight. Aaron
- 11:15Speaker 2: Goldsmith's up next. For now, this update from the British Open.
- 11:44Speaker 2: Our weight is nearly over tonight. The Mariners are finally
- 11:48Speaker 2: back tonight after the All Star.
- 11:50Speaker 5: Break and All Stars slumber, and it kind.
- 11:53Speaker 2: Of feels like they're gonna easeing their way in here
- 11:56Speaker 2: to this thing because the Giants are on tap, the
- 11:59Speaker 2: Reds are on tap, and then the climb gets extremely
- 12:02Speaker 2: steep after that based on the opponents. So you talk
- 12:05Speaker 2: about making Hey, the time is now, Mike Benton and
- 12:10Speaker 2: for Greg Bell with Jessamin McIntyre here for today. Also
- 12:13Speaker 2: we have more takes in the Mariners hometown coming up
- 12:16Speaker 2: at ten forty five plus. Also andrewser is going to
- 12:19Speaker 2: be with us additionally at eleven am to talk about
- 12:22Speaker 2: the World Cup Final third place game Argentina Spain.
- 12:26Speaker 5: You name this here, but so we're gonna be getting
- 12:28Speaker 5: it going.
- 12:28Speaker 2: Finally with the Mariners taking on the Giants tonight at
- 12:30Speaker 2: seven o'clock, it will be Bryce Miller on the mound
- 12:34Speaker 2: against Land and Roup, which will then begin the process
- 12:38Speaker 2: of the six man rotation. Whereas still we're trying to
- 12:41Speaker 2: find out plenty of answers to where all these pieces
- 12:44Speaker 2: are going to fit with what has been just what
- 12:47Speaker 2: I love hearing Jerry Depoto call an over booking of
- 12:51Speaker 2: this pitching staff and to see where this all fits.
- 12:54Speaker 2: We had the piggyback thing that came and went. Now
- 12:57Speaker 2: the six man rotation, we'll see how long this slash.
- 13:00Speaker 2: But to finally talk about everything coming out of the break,
- 13:04Speaker 2: he is ready to go finally on the mic after
- 13:06Speaker 2: some well needed time off well rested, the Dulcetones the
- 13:12Speaker 2: Mariners TV played by a play man, Aaron Goldsman, joining
- 13:15Speaker 2: us right now on the Beacon Plumbing hotline, Goldie, Hello,
- 13:19Speaker 2: how are you? How is the All Star break for
- 13:21Speaker 2: you and family? And were you able to get to
- 13:23Speaker 2: bed on time and get to bed earlier?
- 13:26Speaker 1: Hey, Mike, going to be with you, man, Yeah, the
- 13:28Speaker 1: Ulco break was good, as always, a little time away,
- 13:31Speaker 1: it's probably good for everybody, and ready to get a
- 13:33Speaker 1: going tonight for what hopefully we'll be a strong second
- 13:36Speaker 1: half of.
- 13:36Speaker 2: The MS three game homestand coming up great to hear
- 13:39Speaker 2: from you. We're looking forward to the call from my man.
- 13:41Speaker 2: But there's a long way to go before we hit
- 13:44Speaker 2: the postseason. But when you consider what's ahead here, and
- 13:49Speaker 2: I'm talking about the likes of the Rangers, the White
- 13:52Speaker 2: Sox were playing better, the Dodgers as well, how do
- 13:55Speaker 2: you define the gravity of this homestand given who's waiting
- 14:00Speaker 2: the weeks after this.
- 14:03Speaker 1: Well, I think the Mariners are at a position now
- 14:05Speaker 1: where every road trip, every home stand, every series is
- 14:10Speaker 1: really important. That the Mariners still are the odds on favorite,
- 14:14Speaker 1: whether people want to hear that or not. To win
- 14:17Speaker 1: the West and potentially even win the Pennant. But the
- 14:20Speaker 1: Mariners have to start playing like a team is capable
- 14:22Speaker 1: of doing that, and we've seen them do that in
- 14:24Speaker 1: spurts this year, certainly the last homestand it looked like that,
- 14:27Speaker 1: but then that was all washed away on the previous
- 14:29Speaker 1: road trip that we all remember to Florida. So you know,
- 14:33Speaker 1: the Maritors are in a spot where they in a
- 14:36Speaker 1: different universe of how they would be playing. They could
- 14:39Speaker 1: have a five, six, seven, who knows how many games
- 14:42Speaker 1: lead on top of the division right now, and instead
- 14:44Speaker 1: they're playing from behind. I think on paper they're still
- 14:47Speaker 1: clearly the best team in the West and one of
- 14:50Speaker 1: the best teams in the American League, but none of
- 14:53Speaker 1: that matters if you don't have enough wins in the
- 14:55Speaker 1: win column to prove it at the end of the day.
- 14:57Speaker 1: So the Mariners certainly have time. They're barely on the
- 15:02Speaker 1: outside looking in in terms of the American League West standings.
- 15:06Speaker 1: There's plenty of time to regain with a little ground
- 15:09Speaker 1: that they have lost. But the Mariners, let's face it,
- 15:12Speaker 1: they're in a position where they want to not only
- 15:15Speaker 1: be in first place in the division, they want to
- 15:17Speaker 1: be in first place comfortably, and they have the talent
- 15:20Speaker 1: to do that, but they have to start. Simply, the
- 15:22Speaker 1: guys in the clubhouse just need to start playing to
- 15:25Speaker 1: their potential. And if they were to do that, and
- 15:28Speaker 1: they can do that, the Mariners would be in a
- 15:30Speaker 1: much better position. And for them, that starts tonight.
- 15:32Speaker 2: And that's also a great point given the fact of
- 15:35Speaker 2: so many whatevs and one of those what evs is
- 15:37Speaker 2: Cal Rawley and the injuries and maybe what of the
- 15:39Speaker 2: numbers are better and we're not talking about maybe the
- 15:42Speaker 2: historic pace he had set last year, but just can
- 15:44Speaker 2: he finally you know, get some balance offensively and put
- 15:48Speaker 2: up you know, you know, close to you know, expected
- 15:52Speaker 2: power numbers for him? So I think, for as tough
- 15:54Speaker 2: as what he had for the first half, what's the
- 15:56Speaker 2: best perspective to you on how he got here with
- 15:59Speaker 2: Cal this season and what he has to do here
- 16:01Speaker 2: for the second half.
- 16:04Speaker 1: Well, unfortunately, yes, it was a lost first half for
- 16:07Speaker 1: Cal whether that be through injury or under performance or
- 16:10Speaker 1: one of those leading to the other. But the good
- 16:12Speaker 1: news for cal Rawley is that there is a whole
- 16:15Speaker 1: second half in front of him where he can be
- 16:17Speaker 1: some version of the player that we have known for years.
- 16:20Speaker 1: At this time, nobody's asking cal Rawly to hit sixty
- 16:23Speaker 1: home runs in the second half of the season or
- 16:26Speaker 1: at any point this year. What the Mariners need from
- 16:28Speaker 1: cal Rawley is what they need from a number of players,
- 16:30Speaker 1: and that is they need some power now. The Mariners
- 16:33Speaker 1: right now are twenty seventh in average. They are twenty
- 16:37Speaker 1: eighth in slugging percentage, and that has led to them
- 16:39Speaker 1: being twenty eighth in baseball and runs scored. This is
- 16:43Speaker 1: a lineup that certainly we all know has been shorthanded
- 16:45Speaker 1: this year, a variety of injuries up and down the lineup.
- 16:48Speaker 1: They are generally quite healthy now, with obviously Julio status
- 16:52Speaker 1: up in the air for when he can come off
- 16:54Speaker 1: the concussion il. They are clearly still waiting for Donovan
- 16:57Speaker 1: speaking of unfortunately lost first half, But when the Mariners
- 17:02Speaker 1: end up hitting for power, they end up usually winning games,
- 17:05Speaker 1: and for the Mariners that typically means home runs. They
- 17:07Speaker 1: do not play in a double friendly ballpark. The Mariners
- 17:11Speaker 1: are essentially dead last in doubles this year, which is
- 17:14Speaker 1: something that happens quite frequently for the Mariners. T Mobile
- 17:17Speaker 1: Park is just a double's graveyard. Unfortunately. It's shockingly I
- 17:21Speaker 1: know this is surprising. It's a significantly easier ballpark to
- 17:25Speaker 1: hit a home run in than hit a double end
- 17:27Speaker 1: and the numbers on the park factors would bear that
- 17:29Speaker 1: out year over year over year. And the Mariners have
- 17:31Speaker 1: the good news. The Mariners have ample players in that
- 17:34Speaker 1: lineup who are capable of hitting the ball over the fence.
- 17:36Speaker 1: That doesn't mean that there won't be games where they
- 17:38Speaker 1: score runs by straining together hits. That doesn't mean that
- 17:41Speaker 1: they will never hit a double again. Certainly, it's baseball.
- 17:44Speaker 1: Anything can happen, and over the course of six months
- 17:47Speaker 1: season a lot of things do happen. But when you
- 17:49Speaker 1: look at the Mariners when they are doing good things,
- 17:52Speaker 1: it's because of two things, in particular, starting pitching and
- 17:56Speaker 1: hitting home runs. They've had the starting pitching. We'd all
- 17:58Speaker 1: know that whether it's been a six man rotation, a
- 18:01Speaker 1: five man rotation earlier in the year, a piggyback. I mean, honestly,
- 18:04Speaker 1: almost any iteration of the rotation this year has been
- 18:08Speaker 1: good for the Mariners. Overall. They simply need to keep
- 18:11Speaker 1: the pitching and start hitting home runs. It kind of
- 18:14Speaker 1: comes down to that. It's a simple thing to do
- 18:15Speaker 1: but very hard to execute.
- 18:17Speaker 2: Back to the home runs thing is Aaron Goldsmith joins
- 18:19Speaker 2: us right now with the Beacon Plumbing hotline, and I thought,
- 18:21Speaker 2: for Brendan Donovan's case, it looks so promising and maybe
- 18:25Speaker 2: even a little bit of an omen with that bomb
- 18:27Speaker 2: he hit back in the season opener, way back in March,
- 18:30Speaker 2: and when he's back in me it seems like a
- 18:32Speaker 2: massive pressure valve that is released for this lineups benefit.
- 18:36Speaker 2: And of course we hear that August maybe sometime that
- 18:39Speaker 2: could be when he's due back in. But to you,
- 18:42Speaker 2: what's the impact of his bat and his glove when
- 18:45Speaker 2: they can get him back in there.
- 18:48Speaker 1: Well, A real threat at the top of the order
- 18:51Speaker 1: right especially against right handed pitching, there's no question about that.
- 18:54Speaker 1: And a guy who, although we haven't seen it all
- 18:58Speaker 1: that much firsthand, unfortunately because of the il stints in
- 19:01Speaker 1: the first half from Donovan, but a player who's just
- 19:04Speaker 1: a real tone setter. I think he's a guy that
- 19:06Speaker 1: just his style of play is a real energizing force
- 19:09Speaker 1: for the Mariners. He's another veteran, another guy who's got
- 19:12Speaker 1: some hardware on his mantle, who is getting more at
- 19:15Speaker 1: bats in theory than anyone else in your lineup batting
- 19:18Speaker 1: leadoff like he does so often, so he lengthens the lineup.
- 19:21Speaker 1: He helps with other guys and maybe their better spot
- 19:24Speaker 1: in the order. A guy who will be a constant
- 19:29Speaker 1: on base threat. And yeah he has he can pop
- 19:31Speaker 1: some homers, as we've seen, but that's not his job.
- 19:33Speaker 1: As I was just talking about needing to hit more
- 19:35Speaker 1: home runs, well I wouldn't say that Donovan's the guy
- 19:37Speaker 1: who needs to hit home runs. But you know what
- 19:39Speaker 1: his job is. His job is to get on base
- 19:41Speaker 1: for the guys who will hit home runs so that
- 19:42Speaker 1: the solo home runs a two run or the two
- 19:44Speaker 1: runs a three run. That's how the Mariners end up
- 19:48Speaker 1: winning games. That's how they won the division last year.
- 19:51Speaker 1: And the Mariners have all the guys who are capable
- 19:56Speaker 1: of doing that, and we've seen some real breakout seasons.
- 19:59Speaker 1: I mean, dom Can's own obviously comes to mind where
- 20:01Speaker 1: the Mariners be if not for his homers this year
- 20:03Speaker 1: and his just overall ability to hit this season, which
- 20:07Speaker 1: has been lacking at times for the Mariners. So they
- 20:10Speaker 1: have the pieces to do it. They are becoming more
- 20:12Speaker 1: and more healthy. They just simply need to start playing
- 20:16Speaker 1: to their ability, which I think every one in that
- 20:18Speaker 1: clubhouse would be saying the same thing right now. And
- 20:20Speaker 1: they're all capable of it. That's the good news.
- 20:22Speaker 2: It seems like yesterday that Dan Wilson took over. I mean,
- 20:25Speaker 2: twenty twenty four ended in bitter disappointment, but this team
- 20:28Speaker 2: had a good run in the last month of that year.
- 20:31Speaker 2: Twenty twenty five nearly sent this team to places they
- 20:34Speaker 2: have never been before. I mean, this year, it's been
- 20:36Speaker 2: roller coaster and a lot of factors at play. But Aaron,
- 20:39Speaker 2: how do you define Dan Wilson's impact two years into
- 20:42Speaker 2: this job nearly here to the counter.
- 20:43Speaker 1: Date, Well, I think dan secret sauce is just his
- 20:49Speaker 1: ability in the clubhouse. Obviously, he's he believes in his players,
- 20:53Speaker 1: maybe more than any other manager believes in his and
- 20:55Speaker 1: that's an impossible statement to prove, but that is Dan's makeup.
- 21:00Speaker 1: And I think the players really love playing for him
- 21:04Speaker 1: because of they know that he has their back. He
- 21:08Speaker 1: has the conviction in each one of those guys on
- 21:10Speaker 1: the twenty six man roster, and I think that's that's
- 21:14Speaker 1: what makes him the manager that he is, and that's
- 21:17Speaker 1: what makes players want to play for him. You know,
- 21:20Speaker 1: as a guy who used to call games side by
- 21:22Speaker 1: side with Dan, he is He's a great connector, is
- 21:26Speaker 1: what he is. When when Dan walks in the room,
- 21:28Speaker 1: the room is better, it feels different, it feels better,
- 21:31Speaker 1: And I would imagine that that's how it feels in
- 21:34Speaker 1: many ways down in that clubhouse with Dan involved in things.
- 21:37Speaker 1: And you're right. Last year was a pretty historic season
- 21:40Speaker 1: in a lot of ways for the Mariners, and Dan
- 21:42Speaker 1: had a big impact on that. And you know, Dan
- 21:45Speaker 1: is not the first manager in the history of the
- 21:47Speaker 1: game to have a clubhouse that has been underwhelming on
- 21:51Speaker 1: the field, that is at the midway point, and so
- 21:54Speaker 1: now it's a matter of what role can a manager
- 21:57Speaker 1: play and help getting a team out of that. There's
- 22:00Speaker 1: only so much a manager can do, obviously, but setting
- 22:03Speaker 1: the right culture for guys to be able to have
- 22:05Speaker 1: that kind of a turnaround is important. It's not an
- 22:07Speaker 1: easy thing to do. There's a reason why there's only
- 22:10Speaker 1: thirty guys doing that job in the universe, and Dan's
- 22:12Speaker 1: got one of them. So there's certainly a role for Dan,
- 22:15Speaker 1: But at the end of the day, he's not the
- 22:18Speaker 1: one in the box with the bat in his hand
- 22:19Speaker 1: or on the mount with the ball in his hand.
- 22:21Speaker 1: So it does come down to the players ultimately, but
- 22:24Speaker 1: the manager certainly does have a roll in it as well.
- 22:26Speaker 4: Yeah, Aaron, that is something that has been widely talked
- 22:29Speaker 4: about with Dan one getting the interim job and then
- 22:33Speaker 4: being immediately hired as the manager. And I, just like
- 22:37Speaker 4: you said, have noticed and witnessed exactly how he can
- 22:41Speaker 4: impact a room. So do you think that this is
- 22:44Speaker 4: something that we could see moving forward in the world
- 22:47Speaker 4: of baseball.
- 22:48Speaker 3: I'll keep it in baseball, but.
- 22:49Speaker 4: I've seen it in other sports as well, where someone
- 22:53Speaker 4: who can just.
- 22:54Speaker 3: Change a room.
- 22:55Speaker 4: How does the relationship work when it comes to the
- 23:00Speaker 4: on office, you know, decision making and everything. He's clearly
- 23:03Speaker 4: the I don't want to minimize his role, but the
- 23:07Speaker 4: personality that comes in. So how does he work with
- 23:11Speaker 4: other people who can mitigate in game situations?
- 23:15Speaker 3: How how does that work?
- 23:18Speaker 1: Well? I think the game has come a long way
- 23:21Speaker 1: since when Dan was playing for Loopenella. Right now, I
- 23:24Speaker 1: can't speak to the to the exact chain of command
- 23:28Speaker 1: of when.
- 23:28Speaker 3: The I did not want to put you in that position.
- 23:31Speaker 1: I'm so sorry, yes, no, no, Like all, I'm trying
- 23:35Speaker 1: to say, is you know when when Sparky Anderson and
- 23:36Speaker 1: Loopanella and those guys were running clubhouses and running teams.
- 23:40Speaker 1: Obviously it was a lot different than it is now.
- 23:42Speaker 1: There's it was significantly less information then than there is now.
- 23:46Speaker 1: And I think if you are a major league manager,
- 23:49Speaker 1: whether you're managing for the Marlins or the Mariners or
- 23:52Speaker 1: the Yankees, you you have to be a connector because
- 23:56Speaker 1: there's not a single managerial job in today's era of
- 24:00Speaker 1: Major League Baseball where you are not forced to take
- 24:04Speaker 1: input from the analytics side, the high performance side, so
- 24:10Speaker 1: strength training, and the trainers, I should say, maybe more
- 24:13Speaker 1: importantly from a player development standpoint, from a Bolton management standpoint,
- 24:20Speaker 1: I mean, it's endless the tentacles that come into just
- 24:24Speaker 1: who is available, who is can we put in the
- 24:27Speaker 1: right positions at the right times to have the highest
- 24:31Speaker 1: level of the greatest chance of an outcome in our favor.
- 24:35Speaker 1: It's not just one guy running it like it was
- 24:38Speaker 1: fifty years ago. Let's say, so that is not something
- 24:42Speaker 1: that is unique to the Mariners. There's twenty nine other
- 24:45Speaker 1: guys who are having to do the same jugg we
- 24:47Speaker 1: act that Dan Wilson is doing. Now and I think
- 24:50Speaker 1: it has made it. Truthfully, it's made the game better
- 24:53Speaker 1: because there are a lot of smart people working in
- 24:57Speaker 1: uniform and out of uniform that can help impact the
- 24:59Speaker 1: game and help get a win for their team. And
- 25:02Speaker 1: the bottom line is, guys, it comes down to the
- 25:06Speaker 1: manager's decision. I mean, it's the manager who is the
- 25:10Speaker 1: one making the call of are we going to pinch
- 25:12Speaker 1: it here or you can go to this lefty here,
- 25:14Speaker 1: or are you going to let the righty face one
- 25:15Speaker 1: more batter? Well, the endgame stuff comes down to the manager.
- 25:19Speaker 1: Now that might not be true in every organization, but
- 25:22Speaker 1: Dan Wilson is the manager. It's his call. There's a
- 25:26Speaker 1: lot of input into how you might get to the
- 25:29Speaker 1: process of making a decision, but the ultimate decision does
- 25:32Speaker 1: come down to the skipper. So all you're doing is
- 25:36Speaker 1: you're empowering a manager with more information and I think
- 25:39Speaker 1: more people. No matter what you do in life or
- 25:41Speaker 1: for a living, you'd like to have more information than
- 25:43Speaker 1: left than less than to make a proper decision. And
- 25:46Speaker 1: so in some ways the job has become easier from
- 25:50Speaker 1: the standpoint of you can now take more input from
- 25:53Speaker 1: a lot of people, whether it be your bench coach
- 25:55Speaker 1: or hitting coach, somebody from pitching analytics a trainer. So
- 26:00Speaker 1: in some ways it's easier from that regard, because it's
- 26:02Speaker 1: not just you having to figure out everything on your own.
- 26:05Speaker 1: But in other ways, there's a lot more information to balance. Right,
- 26:09Speaker 1: it becomes a little tricker because now you have to
- 26:10Speaker 1: be able to process all these things as the game
- 26:14Speaker 1: was playing out, and the game moves very fast. Every
- 26:17Speaker 1: manager would tell you that now, but the longer you
- 26:18Speaker 1: do it, I would have to imagine the game gets
- 26:20Speaker 1: slower in a good way. But this is the modern
- 26:23Speaker 1: day manager, and it's not just the Mariners, it's every team.
- 26:27Speaker 1: And I would say that there's no doubt that Dan
- 26:31Speaker 1: when he was thrown in the fire halfway through the season,
- 26:34Speaker 1: what two years ago, that was probably drinking out of
- 26:36Speaker 1: a fire hose. But I would imagine that a lot
- 26:39Speaker 1: of that has started to slow down, just like it
- 26:41Speaker 1: would for any manager. And two years, three years, five years,
- 26:44Speaker 1: ten years, there's a reason why guys who've been around
- 26:47Speaker 1: for a while probably processed stuff better just the longer
- 26:50Speaker 1: they've done it. Just like anything else in life.
- 26:52Speaker 5: That's great insight.
- 26:53Speaker 2: Aaron Goldsman joins us once again here on the Beacon
- 26:55Speaker 2: Plumbing Hotline, and Aaron Jerry Depoto said the other day
- 26:58Speaker 2: in print media he wants bull pen help and as
- 27:01Speaker 2: far as the offense, I mean, just you know, kind
- 27:03Speaker 2: of summon this up from a long answer. He said
- 27:05Speaker 2: that the best players we can acquire are the best
- 27:08Speaker 2: players we have, quote unquote. So I think, to you,
- 27:12Speaker 2: what's the meaning of adding pitching down the stretch versus say,
- 27:15Speaker 2: another right handed bat down the stretch as well.
- 27:20Speaker 1: In terms of the value to the Mariners for either
- 27:23Speaker 1: one of those two, Yeah, well, I think both are important.
- 27:28Speaker 1: I think the right handed bat will be hard. That's
- 27:32Speaker 1: not to say that it can't happen, but will be
- 27:34Speaker 1: I just don't think that there's a great surplus of that.
- 27:37Speaker 1: And the other thing too that you all have to
- 27:39Speaker 1: be mind we all have to be mindful of, is
- 27:43Speaker 1: I mean, the American League is so many yocre right
- 27:45Speaker 1: now and doesn't seem to be changing anytime soon, at
- 27:50Speaker 1: least in terms of the trade deadline in the early
- 27:52Speaker 1: days of August, that there's a lot of teams that
- 27:55Speaker 1: are going to feel like they are in it. And
- 27:56Speaker 1: what happens when there are a lot of teams that
- 27:58Speaker 1: feel like they are in it. What do they do?
- 28:00Speaker 1: Do they trade? Do they sell? No, they want to hold,
- 28:02Speaker 1: and maybe they even want to acquire. So you will
- 28:05Speaker 1: have a lot of teams who are trying to buy
- 28:09Speaker 1: the same things, whether it be a right handed bat
- 28:13Speaker 1: or another Bolton arm, specifically a leverage Bolton arm, and
- 28:16Speaker 1: they're going to be likely very few teams that are
- 28:19Speaker 1: willing to sell. So this much I think we can
- 28:23Speaker 1: all agree on. There has hardly been a team, maybe
- 28:26Speaker 1: the Padres, that has been historically more active at the
- 28:30Speaker 1: deadline in recent years than the Mariners. We all know.
- 28:34Speaker 1: I can't even think of all the names that have
- 28:36Speaker 1: been acquired at the deadline for the Mariners because there
- 28:39Speaker 1: have just truly been so many over the years. Anybody
- 28:41Speaker 1: from a Randy to a Gino, to a dom can
- 28:45Speaker 1: Zone to a nailor right like Castillo is what's got
- 28:48Speaker 1: it all started many years ago. The list goes on
- 28:51Speaker 1: and on. And the other thing is that the Mariners
- 28:53Speaker 1: will have as much trade capital of any team in baseball,
- 28:58Speaker 1: There's no question. So they have the the right people
- 29:01Speaker 1: who are running the show to make a trade. They
- 29:04Speaker 1: have the right prospects on the farm to execute a trade.
- 29:08Speaker 1: It just simply comes down to is there the proper
- 29:12Speaker 1: match for a seller, And it takes two And that's
- 29:16Speaker 1: the thing you have to always remember. It takes two.
- 29:18Speaker 1: You have to find a partner who's willing to give
- 29:20Speaker 1: up for what you're willing to give. And quite frankly,
- 29:22Speaker 1: there have been a number of deals in the past
- 29:24Speaker 1: for the Mariners where they have felt like they have
- 29:26Speaker 1: had a better offer from a prospect that they would
- 29:30Speaker 1: be willing to give up than what the team that
- 29:32Speaker 1: they lost out to ended up giving up to the
- 29:34Speaker 1: team that was trading. But duty's in the eye of
- 29:36Speaker 1: the beholder, and that's what it comes down to as well.
- 29:39Speaker 1: So some people like strawberry ice cream, some people like
- 29:41Speaker 1: chocolate ice cream. If you got chocolate that you're selling
- 29:43Speaker 1: and they want strawberry, you're out of luck, right Sokay.
- 29:48Speaker 5: Su cream kind of got here. But that's just me though.
- 29:51Speaker 1: Yeah, that's truthfully that I mean, that is certainly a
- 29:54Speaker 1: part of making a deal. The Mariners have as good
- 29:57Speaker 1: of a track record of making a deal as anybody
- 30:01Speaker 1: alongside aj Preller with the Padres. So now the Mariners
- 30:05Speaker 1: also have the benefit in terms of is it a
- 30:07Speaker 1: bat or is it an arm or hopefully both for
- 30:09Speaker 1: them where you have a couple of kids and the
- 30:11Speaker 1: miners right now who you feel like potentially could come
- 30:13Speaker 1: up and impact your bullpen once the rosters expand, and
- 30:18Speaker 1: god willing, the playoffs come around for the Mariners as well,
- 30:20Speaker 1: so they don't have that luxury necessarily for a right
- 30:23Speaker 1: handed bat. So it'll be very interesting. I think it'll
- 30:26Speaker 1: be a very tough deadline this year from a buyers standpoint,
- 30:31Speaker 1: and man, if you got something to sell, this is
- 30:33Speaker 1: the year to sell it because you can really catch in.
- 30:35Speaker 2: And of course we're all looking at Kate Anderson and
- 30:38Speaker 2: Ryan Sloan right back down to the miners and scene
- 30:40Speaker 2: if it's a matter of when not if they make
- 30:43Speaker 2: it up here. Aaron, really appreciate this, been too long,
- 30:46Speaker 2: but looking forward to hearing the dulcenttones back of the
- 30:48Speaker 2: mic for you and have a good call, my friend.
- 30:50Speaker 5: Appreciate you.
- 30:51Speaker 1: Hey, good visiting with you guys. We'll tell you later.
- 30:53Speaker 2: Definitely, Aaron Gold's been joining us here at the Beacon
- 30:55Speaker 2: Plumbing hotline. We got some good intel out of that one.
- 30:59Speaker 2: I think the bullpen's a big thing and I kind
- 31:03Speaker 2: of go back Jess to where we were looking at
- 31:05Speaker 2: this six man rotation, and something that our airwaves brought
- 31:09Speaker 2: up the other day is not just finding out where
- 31:12Speaker 2: these pieces are going to fit when it comes to
- 31:15Speaker 2: the postseason, because the conversations the Mariners have said have
- 31:19Speaker 2: already begun with where starting pitching is going to fit
- 31:23Speaker 2: in a September and an October plan.
- 31:26Speaker 5: Do they deal from that.
- 31:27Speaker 2: For another bat I mean, I'm not sure Aaron painted
- 31:30Speaker 2: a Rosie picture to see if there's a right handed
- 31:32Speaker 2: back coming this way here for this team, But yeah,
- 31:35Speaker 2: you have to also right exactly, and to be fair,
- 31:39Speaker 2: he can't. But I think even then you have to
- 31:42Speaker 2: also consider what you can do in the postseason if
- 31:45Speaker 2: you can add somebody like Kate Anderson, who some folks
- 31:49Speaker 2: are saying might be the best pitcher on this team
- 31:52Speaker 2: once he's called up, and Ryan Slolon as well, maybe
- 31:54Speaker 2: once he's called up.
- 31:55Speaker 5: It's a think about Trig Savage last year with the
- 31:58Speaker 5: Blue Jays.
- 31:58Speaker 4: Yeah, that's fair, it's fair, fair comparison, I guess I
- 32:02Speaker 4: would say, yeah, yeah, I'm very happy with this pitching staff,
- 32:09Speaker 4: oh goodness, yes, But I think the biggest question is
- 32:13Speaker 4: the management of it. Within and where do they go
- 32:16Speaker 4: forward is the biggest question.
- 32:18Speaker 5: Because we saw the piggyback thing that blew up.
- 32:21Speaker 2: I was there that night when we had the first
- 32:23Speaker 2: piggyback experiment and we're saying, oh, Bryce Miller was humming
- 32:27Speaker 2: like he was a no hit or territory going into
- 32:30Speaker 2: the sixth inning, and then they had to bring in
- 32:31Speaker 2: Louise Castillo.
- 32:33Speaker 5: He was humming.
- 32:34Speaker 2: But then you get to the ninth thading and then
- 32:35Speaker 2: we're thinking, where's Andres Munnos And we're just gonna throw
- 32:38Speaker 2: Louise Castillo back out there. And the wheels fell off
- 32:42Speaker 2: of that very quickly.
- 32:45Speaker 4: Well, the one thing that and I'll go back to
- 32:47Speaker 4: ian show when we had Jim Bowden on and said, oh,
- 32:52Speaker 4: actually that was with Greg.
- 32:53Speaker 3: Sorry, that's my bad. I work on a lot of shows.
- 32:57Speaker 4: But we had Jim Bowden on and he's specifically said
- 33:01Speaker 4: that they are saving their pitching for September and that
- 33:05Speaker 4: that is not the worst thing that could happen.
- 33:08Speaker 3: Is to have that.
- 33:10Speaker 4: And I just I can't question someone who did what
- 33:14Speaker 4: they did last year. I just don't like to question
- 33:18Speaker 4: what I've seen a success. However, we are not necessarily
- 33:21Speaker 4: seeing the success.
- 33:23Speaker 3: We expected right now.
- 33:24Speaker 2: You can never have enough pitching in September and October.
- 33:30Speaker 2: What you have to do is put them in the
- 33:32Speaker 2: right spots to succeed. So can you do that in
- 33:37Speaker 2: the crunch time situations beginning now when this schedule's going
- 33:41Speaker 2: to ramp up like a rocket ship going across the globe,
- 33:47Speaker 2: when we talk about pace and when we talk about
- 33:49Speaker 2: how tough these opponents are going to be, can Cal
- 33:52Speaker 2: finally get back on the tracks. When Julio was back
- 33:55Speaker 2: and he's healthy, can he finally ramp it up as well?
- 33:58Speaker 2: That's also what's going to propel this team, and they
- 34:01Speaker 2: need to get propelled as well. We're gonna talk more
- 34:04Speaker 2: about the make or breaks of this solm stand because
- 34:08Speaker 2: they're kind of feeling that the Mariners have got to
- 34:09Speaker 2: make ky But what's gonna happen here for this how
- 34:12Speaker 2: much is it make or break? But you tell us
- 34:13Speaker 2: right now. Talkbacks are open also four nine, four or
- 34:16Speaker 2: five one to Komadash text line Mike in for Greg
- 34:19Speaker 2: with Jess beIN right.
- 34:20Speaker 5: Here on ninety three to three kJ Rafin.
- 34:46Speaker 2: Talkbacks are open, hot and heavy, Come and get them.
- 34:49Speaker 2: The door is open. Go to KJR iHeartRadio app. Tackle
- 34:53Speaker 2: the little microphone icon top of the screen. Jess is ready.
- 34:57Speaker 2: She wants to go to work. Please helper and do
- 35:00Speaker 2: a service to Jessamin McIntyre. Give us your takes right
- 35:04Speaker 2: now thirty seconds or less. Talkbacks go to kjar on
- 35:08Speaker 2: the iHeartRadio app. We had some good stuff from Aaron Goldsmith. Great, great,
- 35:13Speaker 2: great conversation. Find that later on Greg Bell's show. What's
- 35:16Speaker 2: Mike filling in for Greg with Jessamine? But that's gonna
- 35:19Speaker 2: be there at twenty four to seven. Got some intel
- 35:22Speaker 2: as far as how all this works in case you
- 35:24Speaker 2: forgot or needed a refresher as well, because the Mariners
- 35:29Speaker 2: face the San Francisco Giants, they'll face the Cincinnati Reds,
- 35:33Speaker 2: and then it gets extremely steep and it just kind
- 35:36Speaker 2: of feels like final boss after final boss in this schedule.
- 35:40Speaker 2: So how confident are you right now with what the
- 35:42Speaker 2: Mariners have from Dan Wilson all the way down to
- 35:46Speaker 2: the health of their lineup and their pitching staff. Four
- 35:50Speaker 2: nine four five one to coma DOAJH text line, but
- 35:52Speaker 2: hit up talk backs. We will get to those coming
- 35:56Speaker 2: up at eleven thirty.
- 35:58Speaker 5: I don't want it.
- 35:59Speaker 2: Maybe extend myself and exaggerate, but I just can't get
- 36:04Speaker 2: past the feeling despite the Mariners being at home or
- 36:08Speaker 2: they have been good recently, yet compared to what happened
- 36:14Speaker 2: with just what was a road trip that just fell
- 36:16Speaker 2: off the wheels in Miami and Tampa Bay. How much
- 36:21Speaker 2: they have got to make Hay against the Giants and
- 36:24Speaker 2: the Reds. One of the few things I want to
- 36:27Speaker 2: get to just as far as what can make or
- 36:29Speaker 2: break this homestand and what could be a make or
- 36:31Speaker 2: break part here potentially of the year, because after this
- 36:35Speaker 2: you've got what just seems like a murderous row of
- 36:39Speaker 2: teams Texas Big Series game and a half out of
- 36:42Speaker 2: the Mariners, the Dodgers at the Dodgers.
- 36:46Speaker 5: Minnesota is coming in.
- 36:50Speaker 2: There middle of the road, but they're in the hunt
- 36:52Speaker 2: for the American League Central Detroit is better, Tampa Bay
- 36:57Speaker 2: is Bite your knuckles tough at the Yankee bite your
- 37:00Speaker 2: knuckles tough at Milwaukee, bite your knuckles tough.
- 37:04Speaker 5: The Cubs.
- 37:06Speaker 2: Also the Cubs, who have been very very good this
- 37:09Speaker 2: year despite being fired back of the Brewers, then the Phillies,
- 37:14Speaker 2: then at the Blue Jays, and really, aside from Detroit,
- 37:17Speaker 2: you get no massive pushover in this schedule until the
- 37:21Speaker 2: Angels in mid September. How's it gonna look by then? Exactly,
- 37:28Speaker 2: how's it gonna look by then? I mean, you need
- 37:32Speaker 2: you need this series here, you need this home stand here.
- 37:34Speaker 2: It's it's the Giants coming in who have been We
- 37:38Speaker 2: all knew that they're that they were gonna be dropping
- 37:40Speaker 2: way back in the National League West. But I mean,
- 37:42Speaker 2: it has just been a massive tire fire this year
- 37:45Speaker 2: under the new skipper and the Reds who bring back
- 37:47Speaker 2: Gino Suarez as well on the roster. Yeah, I mean,
- 37:51Speaker 2: I mean, really really, despite the tough postseason that he
- 37:54Speaker 2: had last year, aside from that goal of the moment
- 37:57Speaker 2: he had back in Game five of the Alcs, he's
- 38:00Speaker 2: been a true heart and soul kind of guy. But yet,
- 38:03Speaker 2: when when you when you consider that the Rangers out
- 38:06Speaker 2: of the gate have six trade against the Braves and
- 38:08Speaker 2: the White Socks. The Braves who play great ball, they
- 38:12Speaker 2: lead the National League East. The White Socks are much much, much,
- 38:16Speaker 2: much much better. That's pressure right there to take care
- 38:20Speaker 2: of your own business, because who knows what the Rangers
- 38:22Speaker 2: could do right now? That lead could be right back
- 38:25Speaker 2: with the Mariners by the end of this home stand.
- 38:26Speaker 3: One hundred percent.
- 38:27Speaker 4: The als is the weirdest thing I've I think I've
- 38:30Speaker 4: seen since I've moved out here, and I moved out
- 38:33Speaker 4: here before the Astros were even a part.
- 38:35Speaker 2: Of it, and the Astros were terrible, absolutely terrible, And
- 38:39Speaker 2: it's scary to think about, scary to think about where
- 38:42Speaker 2: where like where where where they could be if health
- 38:45Speaker 2: was intact. That's a scary part of this because they're
- 38:49Speaker 2: still a lurking right now in the American League West.
- 38:52Speaker 5: Okay, the game and a half back of the Mariners.
- 38:54Speaker 4: Everything that you're saying and what we have been saying
- 38:57Speaker 4: since the beginning of this show, take care of us.
- 39:00Speaker 5: Yeah, you have to against the Reds and the Giants.
- 39:03Speaker 5: So that's making Hey.
- 39:04Speaker 2: Number two is Julio's health when they get him back
- 39:06Speaker 2: in three and six record with him out of the lineup.
- 39:09Speaker 2: He was hitting five hundred in the previous five games
- 39:13Speaker 2: before he was at It's apparent the bat was starting
- 39:16Speaker 2: to warm up. They've got to get his bat, and
- 39:18Speaker 2: they definitely had to get his defense as well back in.
- 39:20Speaker 2: Although it's taking a bit of a turn off the
- 39:22Speaker 2: rails at some points of this year, but Julio's health
- 39:25Speaker 2: is number two.
- 39:26Speaker 5: I think for me as well as cal Rawley's bat.
- 39:28Speaker 2: We brought it up Aaron Goldsmith brought it up a
- 39:31Speaker 2: two hundred hitter over the.
- 39:32Speaker 5: Last ten games. But I think dig Fane.
- 39:35Speaker 2: I believe, brought up a wild stat about a couple
- 39:38Speaker 2: of or a seclea a seven. Yeah, exactly here stop
- 39:41Speaker 2: the presses several days ago. I think he had to
- 39:45Speaker 2: hit something like, I want to say, close to you know,
- 39:47Speaker 2: four hundred to get to like the two hundred mark
- 39:50Speaker 2: by the end of the season. That's just how tough
- 39:52Speaker 2: the season's been for cal Rawley. So, I mean, the
- 39:55Speaker 2: mystery with swing issues goes back into the world Baseball classes.
- 39:58Speaker 2: But they got to get him back on the tracks.
- 40:00Speaker 2: Very quick six man rotation Brian Wu Drastic Homan road
- 40:05Speaker 2: splits home has been much better for him. I mean,
- 40:07Speaker 2: if you go with a five man rotation, he could
- 40:09Speaker 2: still get sneaking two stars, but they want to try
- 40:12Speaker 2: six man. So we was just gonna get one start
- 40:15Speaker 2: out of the gate before they go back on the road.
- 40:17Speaker 5: I think to me, also, George Kirby, up and down,
- 40:20Speaker 5: up and down.
- 40:20Speaker 2: The hit count's been high for him, lately, But how
- 40:22Speaker 2: is he going to respond when he finally takes the hill?
- 40:26Speaker 2: And then Tuesday you got Chase Burns going for Cincinnati,
- 40:29Speaker 2: who has just been lights out this season. You're gonna
- 40:33Speaker 2: go Emerson, Hancock or the wist Castillo for that game?
- 40:36Speaker 5: Who knows?
- 40:37Speaker 2: But given the fact out close the trade deadline is lurking,
- 40:41Speaker 2: could this be the last time the Louis Castillo pitches
- 40:44Speaker 2: at T Mobile Park? It could very well happen in
- 40:49Speaker 2: this homestand it could in this homestand because then you
- 40:54Speaker 2: go back on the road, you have the Rangers in
- 40:57Speaker 2: that series, you have the Dodgers as well, and then
- 40:59Speaker 2: finally again this is Dan Wilson's influence, and I think
- 41:02Speaker 2: Aaron Goldsmith's shed some light just based on how much
- 41:06Speaker 2: despite the modern day manager and I tend to agree
- 41:09Speaker 2: with him, it's different back when we were talking about
- 41:12Speaker 2: the Tommy Lasordas, Earl Weavers, Sparky Anderson's how you know
- 41:17Speaker 2: they were kind of the autonomous figure running matters in
- 41:19Speaker 2: the clubhouse. And this is way way way before analytics
- 41:23Speaker 2: crept into sports, just let alone baseball. But you have
- 41:28Speaker 2: to be a connector to the front office because it
- 41:30Speaker 2: doesn't matter whether you are the Rockies, whether you are
- 41:34Speaker 2: the Dodgers. Analytics plays into decisions, yet it is on
- 41:39Speaker 2: the manager from the sixth ending on. And when we
- 41:42Speaker 2: think about how many games have fallen off the rails
- 41:45Speaker 2: for the Mariners this year, and the decisions I already
- 41:49Speaker 2: touched on the piggyback gate situation, his influence will begin
- 41:54Speaker 2: to yield more and more impact down the stretch.
- 41:58Speaker 5: The Cleveland melt melt down.
- 42:00Speaker 2: Almost one example, the hits at this team took in
- 42:02Speaker 2: the sixth inning when platoons come into play. And this
- 42:05Speaker 2: again the energy that has been lagging on the field,
- 42:07Speaker 2: which brings us into question, what can you do to
- 42:12Speaker 2: spark the energy, to bring up the energy. There's gotta
- 42:17Speaker 2: be something there to show that you've got to push
- 42:20Speaker 2: the right buttons when the stakes get higher, because a
- 42:22Speaker 2: seat for this job is already getting warmer, and we
- 42:25Speaker 2: heard so on these airwaves earlier here, So make or
- 42:29Speaker 2: break here for the Mariners. It begins now despite the
- 42:32Speaker 2: Giants who have been bad, the Reds who have been bad.
- 42:35Speaker 2: But when you think about the schedule that lies ahead,
- 42:37Speaker 2: you cannot take this series against the Giants or the
- 42:41Speaker 2: Reds as well, for granted. One guy we don't take
- 42:43Speaker 2: for granted, especially in this World Cup that comes to
- 42:45Speaker 2: an end here for this weekend is andrews Hers. He
- 42:49Speaker 2: joins us after this two talk more World Cup in
- 42:52Speaker 2: the final Spain or Argentina.

- 43:43Speaker 2: That's not although tomorrow the third place payoff match between
- 43:48Speaker 2: France and England at going down in Miami. Mariner is
- 43:52Speaker 2: also back at it Finally. Tonight, the All Star Break
- 43:56Speaker 2: is officially a thing of the past. Beginning at seven ten,
- 44:00Speaker 2: the Mariners take on the San Francisco Giants. Bryce Miller,
- 44:04Speaker 2: arguably team MVP of this rotation. He starts against Landing
- 44:08Speaker 2: Roupe tomorrow, Logan web Brian Wu's Sunday Robbie Ray, Ah,
- 44:13Speaker 2: Robbie Ray against Logan Gilbert. If you know, you know,
- 44:16Speaker 2: you can hear the grunts all right from Yes Bellevue Sounders.
- 44:20Speaker 2: Oh boy, weeels got beaten off with them last night,
- 44:23Speaker 2: but the Timbers five to one. Brian schmittz Aer airing
- 44:26Speaker 2: it out post game as well. In the NBA, the
- 44:30Speaker 2: non decision continues here for Lebron James sixteen years after
- 44:35Speaker 2: the decision, this is a non decision, saying that he
- 44:38Speaker 2: doesn't know yet where he is going. That decision carried
- 44:41Speaker 2: on ESPN with Jim Gray. I have no idea are
- 44:44Speaker 2: they gonna do this non decision here via via zoom.
- 44:47Speaker 5: Or teams a special event, just like you did for
- 44:52Speaker 5: Colin the tin Cans. You'll go with the string across
- 44:55Speaker 5: the street.
- 44:56Speaker 3: It's over, Just go somewhere.
- 44:59Speaker 2: He's going to Hilly British Open updates that's also coming.
- 45:02Speaker 2: Lucas Herbert and the lead and a lot of guys
- 45:05Speaker 2: going low today at Royal Birkdale, including some record tying efforts.
- 45:11Speaker 5: Who shot sixty two? Was it just one? Guy. You
- 45:14Speaker 5: gotta wait and see.
- 45:15Speaker 2: But updates on that coming up soon after the show
- 45:19Speaker 2: we go.
- 45:24Speaker 5: I'm getting PTSD from this song. I've heard it so
- 45:29Speaker 5: many times.
- 45:32Speaker 6: Welcome back to Iheartradios coverage to the twenty twenty sixty
- 45:34Speaker 6: four World Come.
- 45:34Speaker 5: Oh wait, do you do you actually wake up with this?
- 45:37Speaker 4: No?
- 45:37Speaker 5: I do not. I've heard it wait too much.
- 45:39Speaker 2: It's buried within the depths of your soul, in your brains.
- 45:43Speaker 5: It's like you at the Kraken Audio Network theme song.
- 45:45Speaker 2: I swear like when I hear Hans Zimmer. Yeah, I
- 45:48Speaker 2: hear Han Zimmer. It's like Pavlov's wait wait, I have
- 45:50Speaker 2: to come back.
- 45:51Speaker 5: I joined rejoined.
- 45:56Speaker 2: Mike in for Greg Bell. Greg's offer today, and you're
- 45:59Speaker 2: a jest. Samon McIntyre talkbacks. I want to hear them
- 46:02Speaker 2: four nine four five one. Also Takoma Doage text line.
- 46:05Speaker 2: But hammer us right now with your talkbacks. We'll just
- 46:08Speaker 2: keep this simple. Your expectation of the Mariners here in
- 46:11Speaker 2: the second half.
- 46:12Speaker 1: I like it.
- 46:13Speaker 2: The have the talkbacks also four nine four five to
- 46:15Speaker 2: one on the Tacoma Dodge text line. But we got
- 46:19Speaker 2: to some great stuff with the World Cup. It comes
- 46:22Speaker 2: to an end much to Andrews and FIFA Feltz's chagrin
- 46:26Speaker 2: on Sunday, But yet waiting on pins and needles because
- 46:30Speaker 2: he's got some family who's got some stake in the
- 46:33Speaker 2: game here, is anders hearst because Argentina is facing Spain. Yes,
- 46:39Speaker 2: as a family holding up by the way, they're doing well.
- 46:41Speaker 2: They're doing well.
- 46:42Speaker 6: The colonizers lost at least at least.
- 46:44Speaker 5: One of them did.
- 46:45Speaker 6: We still got Spain to conquer as well, so hopefully
- 46:48Speaker 6: that will end up happening. No, I'm just kidding, but yeah,
- 46:52Speaker 6: I mean it was such a great semifinal matchup, and
- 46:56Speaker 6: you say, to my chagrin, yes, this has been such
- 46:59Speaker 6: a one event and I've been been lucky enough to
- 47:03Speaker 6: be such a big part of our coverage here. But
- 47:06Speaker 6: I'm also kind of a little bit ready for over.
- 47:11Speaker 4: Yeah it's been Have you been working too hard?
- 47:17Speaker 6: Maybe, but no, it's it's been for something that I
- 47:20Speaker 6: truly love. So it really hasn't been working at all,
- 47:22Speaker 6: to be honest, but I am a little it's getting
- 47:24Speaker 6: to the point where it's like, okay, finish line is here,
- 47:27Speaker 6: let's let's let's be done. And thankfully I'm actually not
- 47:31Speaker 6: doing the final I was a little disappointed when the
- 47:34Speaker 6: schedule first came out that I wasn't doing the final,
- 47:36Speaker 6: But the longer that it goes on and now, especially
- 47:39Speaker 6: since one of my two teams is in it, I
- 47:42Speaker 6: would have been just an absolute nervous mess during the
- 47:46Speaker 6: entire thing and I wouldn't have been able to kept professional.
- 47:48Speaker 2: If Argentina wins. Do you look for a baby, Onesie,
- 47:51Speaker 2: I think we already have one. Oh yeah, yeah, what
- 47:56Speaker 2: my wife.
- 47:56Speaker 5: Wifed up at one, not two, not three? Well, I
- 47:59Speaker 5: think he actually grewd already, so that is true.
- 48:02Speaker 3: We need another baby.
- 48:03Speaker 2: He's a big babys I just put it on the back.
- 48:07Speaker 5: My goodness.
- 48:08Speaker 6: He is a USA and in Argentina one. For those
- 48:10Speaker 6: who say that I'm an American, he is both.
- 48:12Speaker 5: Don't worry.
- 48:12Speaker 2: I mean I want to get to Leo Messi here,
- 48:14Speaker 2: by the way, who was just torpedoing narratives that he
- 48:16Speaker 2: cannot play in crunch time anders right now? I mean
- 48:19Speaker 2: he's looking for you know, back to back one in
- 48:22Speaker 2: twenty twenty two.
- 48:23Speaker 5: But has he officially ended the goat debate? Yeah?
- 48:27Speaker 6: I think if you're looking at all the major sports,
- 48:30Speaker 6: there are some sports like your expertise in hockey where
- 48:35Speaker 6: there's just no debate, and who's the best of all time,
- 48:37Speaker 6: it's Wayne Gretzky. Yeah, right, I think you could say
- 48:40Speaker 6: the same for American football as well, Tom Brady. Pretty simple.
- 48:44Speaker 6: It's a little bit different because then you go by
- 48:46Speaker 6: position and stuff like that. But yeah, I think most people,
- 48:49Speaker 6: when you ask them who's the greatest football player of
- 48:51Speaker 6: all time, it's it's Tom Brady. And I think for
- 48:54Speaker 6: the longest time, soccer fell into the category of the NBA,
- 48:58Speaker 6: where it was you know, you you have your side,
- 49:00Speaker 6: Maybe you prefer Lebron, maybe you prefer Jordan. Some people
- 49:03Speaker 6: throw Kobe into that conversation as well. But even if
- 49:07Speaker 6: you truly think one side is so much better, there
- 49:09Speaker 6: was at least an argument for the other side, right,
- 49:12Speaker 6: and it was Lionel Messi, Christiano Ronaldo, maybe Pele, maybe Maridonna,
- 49:17Speaker 6: depending on how you feel about the previous generations. But
- 49:21Speaker 6: I think it has to really it's it's getting a
- 49:24Speaker 6: lot closer to the hockey and football side of things
- 49:27Speaker 6: now where it's just like, well, there's not really much
- 49:30Speaker 6: debate about what you can say. The only thing that's
- 49:32Speaker 6: left is really Pele having three World Cups and Messi
- 49:36Speaker 6: having one as of now. But because of everything that
- 49:39Speaker 6: he's done at the club level, that gets a little
- 49:42Speaker 6: overlooked because the international level is just what's on the
- 49:45Speaker 6: biggest stage all the time. With the World Cup, I
- 49:48Speaker 6: think that helps him surpass that, and that's helped Christiano
- 49:51Speaker 6: Ronaldo get to this conversation as well. It's just he
- 49:53Speaker 6: hasn't done it at the international level. So Messi has
- 49:55Speaker 6: kind of both those things going for him now, and
- 49:57Speaker 6: no matter what happens, I think that the conversations already
- 50:00Speaker 6: over at this point and it's all just about him
- 50:02Speaker 6: and his legacy. He's looking for the first team to
- 50:05Speaker 6: go back to back the World Cup since nineteen fifty
- 50:08Speaker 6: eight and sixty two in Brazil and Pele did it,
- 50:11Speaker 6: but no team has actually ever won four consecutive major
- 50:14Speaker 6: international trophies. So Argentina won the Copa America, which is
- 50:19Speaker 6: the continental competition for South America. So they won the
- 50:25Speaker 6: Copa America in twenty twenty one, the World Cup in
- 50:27Speaker 6: twenty twenty two, the Copa America in twenty twenty four,
- 50:30Speaker 6: and now they're going looking to do the World Cup
- 50:31Speaker 6: in twenty twenty six. So going consecutive all four in
- 50:35Speaker 6: a row has never happened before any team in men's soccer.
- 50:39Speaker 5: Talkbacks are open four, nine, four or five one.
- 50:41Speaker 2: To komodajh TeX's line, has Leo Messi ended the greatest
- 50:44Speaker 2: of all time debates? Talkbacks are open four, nine, four
- 50:48Speaker 2: or five one as well. I go back to the
- 50:51Speaker 2: England match, and this is where a lot of us
- 50:53Speaker 2: who are still curious about this game can really begin
- 50:56Speaker 2: to learn more of the nuances of the sport and
- 50:59Speaker 2: just the fact that England was this enrope adult mode
- 51:03Speaker 2: once they got the lead. But yet I loved how
- 51:06Speaker 2: Jackson phrased it this morning. It's like you're punting on
- 51:09Speaker 2: first down, and if you're facing New England, you're not
- 51:13Speaker 2: giving the ball back to Drake May. You're giving the
- 51:16Speaker 2: ball back to prime Tom Brady with Randy Moss, with
- 51:21Speaker 2: all those weapons from prime Patriots years, and just crossing
- 51:25Speaker 2: your fingers hoping that your one nothing lead holds up.
- 51:28Speaker 2: What'd you make out.
- 51:29Speaker 1: Of that game? Yeah?
- 51:30Speaker 6: I mean, as much of a fan and as much
- 51:32Speaker 6: as I was rooting for Argentina, I can't be blind
- 51:35Speaker 6: enough to see that England kind of did it to
- 51:38Speaker 6: themselves a little bit, I think, for the majority of
- 51:40Speaker 6: the game until they scored England. I don't want to
- 51:43Speaker 6: say it was the better team, but they were comfortable
- 51:45Speaker 6: their game plan had worked to that point, and the
- 51:49Speaker 6: fact that once they scored, they just completely abolished their
- 51:53Speaker 6: game plan. It was very similar to them playing against
- 51:56Speaker 6: Mexico where they had a lead late in a game
- 52:00Speaker 6: and they decided instead of just you know, the best
- 52:03Speaker 6: form of defense's attack sort of situation, they just decide
- 52:06Speaker 6: to defend for thirty minutes and it barely worked. Versus Mexico.
- 52:10Speaker 6: This isn't Mexico. This is this is the defending world champions,
- 52:14Speaker 6: all the accolades I just mentioned earlier, and an Argentina
- 52:18Speaker 6: team that continues to you know, do it in the
- 52:20Speaker 6: big moments, find ways to win it. Honestly, Hopefully the
- 52:25Speaker 6: result doesn't matter or doesn't match what my comparison's going
- 52:29Speaker 6: to be, but it reminds me a lot of the
- 52:31Speaker 6: twenty fourteen to fifteen Seahawks. So the year after they
- 52:35Speaker 6: won the Super Bowl, where they weren't really like I mean,
- 52:40Speaker 6: they were still a very very good team obviously, but
- 52:43Speaker 6: they weren't as dominant as they were in that first
- 52:45Speaker 6: Super Bowl run. They continue to find ways to win,
- 52:48Speaker 6: and we all know what happened in the final, so
- 52:51Speaker 6: hopefully that that the different outcome happens with that comparison,
- 52:55Speaker 6: at least for my liking. So but the other thing
- 52:58Speaker 6: about what you mentioned about Jackson is his pick to
- 53:00Speaker 6: one with Spain and my pick to one was Argentina.
- 53:02Speaker 6: And they're facing off in the final, and here we.
- 53:04Speaker 2: Go, because of the Bay begins, who's got the upper
- 53:06Speaker 2: hand because Spain has just been a tour de force
- 53:10Speaker 2: of lockdown. Just one goal can state it, my goodness
- 53:13Speaker 2: in this entire World Cup. But yeah, I think before
- 53:16Speaker 2: we get into the weeds of Spain Argentina, you call
- 53:20Speaker 2: the cardiac crew. Yeah, eleven times they scored from the
- 53:23Speaker 2: seventy fifth minute onward.
- 53:24Speaker 6: Yeah, it's this is a much different team, even though
- 53:28Speaker 6: it's a lot of the same players as the twenty
- 53:30Speaker 6: twenty two World champion team. The twenty twenty two World
- 53:33Speaker 6: champion team, you could tell was desperate to win at
- 53:35Speaker 6: least one in Messi's you know, prime, maybe late prime
- 53:41Speaker 6: at that point, but they were dominant in every single
- 53:45Speaker 6: game they played. The results still were in question at
- 53:48Speaker 6: some points, but they would end up figuring it out
- 53:50Speaker 6: in the end. This hasn't been the case this tournament.
- 53:53Speaker 6: Their first game was good, but then ever since then,
- 53:55Speaker 6: they haven't really shown the true ability for the entire
- 54:00Speaker 6: of the game. They start poorly in almost every single match.
- 54:03Speaker 6: That wasn't necessarily the case versus England. I think both
- 54:05Speaker 6: teams were just kind of feeling themselves out at that point.
- 54:08Speaker 6: But every time they've had their backs up against the wall,
- 54:11Speaker 6: they seem to turn it on at the right moments,
- 54:13Speaker 6: and I think that's the sign of a true champion,
- 54:16Speaker 6: to be honest, when you know when you need the
- 54:18Speaker 6: clutch moments, that's when the guys step up. And the
- 54:22Speaker 6: best thing I think for them is, Yes, Messi's been
- 54:25Speaker 6: an amazing player and the best player at this tournament
- 54:28Speaker 6: so far, but it's not just him. They're not like
- 54:32Speaker 6: earlier in the tournament they were basically handing it off
- 54:34Speaker 6: to him and saying, Okay, you need to score otherwise rescrewed.
- 54:37Speaker 6: That's not necessarily the case anymore. You're seeing other players
- 54:39Speaker 6: step up and score goals. Messi two assists in the
- 54:42Speaker 6: game versus England. Yes, he created them. You have to
- 54:45Speaker 6: have other players to score them as well. I think
- 54:47Speaker 6: that bodes really really well for Argentina's chances because they're
- 54:49Speaker 6: going to need their other players to step up versus Spain.
- 54:52Speaker 5: So let's get to Spain.
- 54:53Speaker 2: Yeah, la mein Yamal who might be the young headliner
- 54:57Speaker 2: of this game and for his country and few future.
- 55:00Speaker 2: And folks, if you haven't google this, go back and
- 55:02Speaker 2: find a two thousand and seven photo with him and
- 55:05Speaker 2: Leo Messi, except Yamal was fresh out of the womb,
- 55:09Speaker 2: five months of baby, and here's a photo of Leo
- 55:13Speaker 2: Messi actually giving him a bat that has made its
- 55:16Speaker 2: rounds all across And there's a great story behind family
- 55:19Speaker 2: and that connection here. But I mean, let's all talk
- 55:22Speaker 2: about his game. How far much has this confidence taken Spain?
- 55:25Speaker 2: How much can his game really go next level here
- 55:28Speaker 2: in this final?
- 55:28Speaker 6: Yeah, I do think that going into this tournament he
- 55:30Speaker 6: was kind of touted as one of the guys to
- 55:32Speaker 6: really look out for. I mean, he came onto the
- 55:34Speaker 6: scene in the Euros in twenty twenty four. I mentioned
- 55:37Speaker 6: the Copa America for Argentina in twenty twenty four, that's
- 55:39Speaker 6: the South American competition. The Euros is the European competition, right,
- 55:42Speaker 6: So that's the other major international trophies. Spain won their
- 55:46Speaker 6: Euros as well, So we have the South American champions
- 55:50Speaker 6: versus the European champions facing off at the World Cup.
- 55:52Speaker 6: Just makes total sense. But he was a seventeen year
- 55:55Speaker 6: old at that point, and he was the best player
- 55:56Speaker 6: at the Euros with like all the best players in
- 55:59Speaker 6: the world, you know, playing in this in this major
- 56:03Speaker 6: tournament obviously, and I think a lot of people expected
- 56:06Speaker 6: him to really explode at this World Cup. Hasn't necessarily happened,
- 56:09Speaker 6: but he's taken the mentality as a nineteen year old
- 56:14Speaker 6: of hey, you know what, I don't need to be
- 56:16Speaker 6: the guy.
- 56:16Speaker 5: We just need to keep winning.
- 56:17Speaker 6: In Spain, they don't necessarily dominate teams in terms of
- 56:20Speaker 6: the score line, but they dominate in terms of the
- 56:24Speaker 6: passages of play, the midfield, battle, the possession. And I've
- 56:29Speaker 6: heard death by a thousand passes exactly, and that's kind
- 56:32Speaker 6: of exactly like we make the comparison you're a hockey guy.
- 56:35Speaker 6: I think they play a lot like Carolina, where they
- 56:37Speaker 6: just they very suffocate you to death. You don't get
- 56:41Speaker 6: a chance to possess the ball at all, you're you're
- 56:43Speaker 6: going to get very few chances against them, but they
- 56:47Speaker 6: don't necessarily score five to six goals a game. It's
- 56:50Speaker 6: it's it's very much. It's a lot of one zero,
- 56:52Speaker 6: two to one wins, right, So there's a lot of
- 56:56Speaker 6: similarities there. So I do think with Spain though, if
- 56:59Speaker 6: they are to this does feel like a passing of
- 57:02Speaker 6: the torch moment because you mentioned the photo shoot with
- 57:05Speaker 6: Lamina Mal He was born in the Barcelona area, now
- 57:08Speaker 6: plays for Barcelona. Messi at that time when he was born,
- 57:10Speaker 6: was like an eighteen year old just coming up into
- 57:12Speaker 6: the Barcelona ranks and out of everyone, like this random
- 57:18Speaker 6: family just decided like entered into like a sweepstakes to
- 57:23Speaker 6: try and get to a photo shoot with Lionel Messi
- 57:25Speaker 6: and they ended up winning it. And there's a lot
- 57:28Speaker 6: of you know, greater beliefs out there that the divine
- 57:32Speaker 6: influence that think the reason that del and you Mal
- 57:35Speaker 6: has taken the steps that he has and becoming possibly
- 57:38Speaker 6: the next great player in this world is because he
- 57:41Speaker 6: was touched by Messi basically at birth.
- 57:43Speaker 2: So Andrews is joining us live and studio, I think
- 57:45Speaker 2: we all love to be touched here by a legend
- 57:47Speaker 2: app kind of like the old christ weird.
- 57:50Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, let's get this back on the track, sir,
- 57:52Speaker 5: When when when when?
- 57:54Speaker 2: When we talk about Argentina and Spain, there's obviously a
- 57:57Speaker 2: struggle of two playing styles here.
- 57:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 57:59Speaker 2: So Argentina's got the weapons, Spain has a system, They
- 58:03Speaker 2: have the lockdown approach. How do you define who has
- 58:05Speaker 2: the upper hand out of the gate?
- 58:07Speaker 5: Yeah, I do think.
- 58:09Speaker 6: I talked about this with Jackson on our podcast tech
- 58:12Speaker 6: are tactically Spain has the advantage they can, Like I said,
- 58:16Speaker 6: they dominate every game they play in in terms of
- 58:18Speaker 6: the possession battle. The question is whether they will make
- 58:21Speaker 6: that dominance show on the score line. Right, Argentina are
- 58:26Speaker 6: more comfortable not having the ball, not having possession than
- 58:31Speaker 6: Spain are. But are Argentina going to get the volume
- 58:34Speaker 6: of chances? I said the same thing when Spain faced France, Right,
- 58:36Speaker 6: A lot of people thought France would kind of roll
- 58:38Speaker 6: over Spain because of how much attacking firepower they have.
- 58:41Speaker 6: Argentina is a little bit more of a balanced team
- 58:44Speaker 6: than France's. So I expect this to be another level
- 58:47Speaker 6: of competition for Spain to get through because both Argentina
- 58:53Speaker 6: are very solid in the midfield as well, more so
- 58:55Speaker 6: than France. And then they have obviously what's going on
- 58:59Speaker 6: with you know, Messi, Julian Alvarez, Enzo Fernandez, a lot
- 59:03Speaker 6: of players in the attacking portion of the field as well.
- 59:05Speaker 6: So I do think Spain tactically had the advantage. But
- 59:08Speaker 6: you mentioned the cardiac kids. Man, when you have that
- 59:11Speaker 6: something special that you can always lean on, eventually you're
- 59:15Speaker 6: gonna go to the well and it's gonna be empty, right,
- 59:17Speaker 6: So maybe that is now at this World Cup, maybe
- 59:19Speaker 6: Spain proves their dominance and comes out victorious. But you
- 59:23Speaker 6: always have to be aware of a team, a championship mentality,
- 59:27Speaker 6: team that's ready to kind of do it whenever they
- 59:29Speaker 6: absolutely need to.
- 59:30Speaker 2: How do you feel about this final being played in
- 59:33Speaker 2: East rut Theford, New Jersey, versus say somewhere else like Dallas,
- 59:36Speaker 2: Los Angeles or even up here.
- 59:38Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 59:38Speaker 3: I don't.
- 59:39Speaker 6: Obviously I'm biased to Seattle. I think this atmosphere would
- 59:42Speaker 6: be second to none. It was it was, so that's
- 59:46Speaker 6: that's a whole Another discis I'm not a huge I
- 59:49Speaker 6: don't really care that much where it's played, as long
- 59:52Speaker 6: as if it's not in Seattle.
- 59:53Speaker 5: I don't really have a preference where.
- 59:55Speaker 6: There is there is Jersey, Yeah, yeah, sure, but I
- 59:58Speaker 6: mean there is questions about the and I just chained
- 1:00:01Speaker 6: it up.
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: For her and just o'clock New Yorkers versus New Jersey.
- 1:00:06Speaker 6: Yeah, even they call it New York New Jersey Stadium,
- 1:00:09Speaker 6: right because it's like a slash even though it is
- 1:00:11Speaker 6: in New Jersey.
- 1:00:11Speaker 3: As you mentioned, so the teams are from New York.
- 1:00:14Speaker 5: Yeah, I know that New.
- 1:00:15Speaker 4: Jersey doesn't actually have a team, but we have to
- 1:00:18Speaker 4: play there.
- 1:00:18Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, true.
- 1:00:20Speaker 4: However, we were talking earlier about the transportation issues, and
- 1:00:25Speaker 4: there are several and what I was mentioning is people
- 1:00:28Speaker 4: who are traveling from around the world will more likely
- 1:00:31Speaker 4: stay in New York City in that area to see
- 1:00:35Speaker 4: New York might be the one and only time they
- 1:00:39Speaker 4: could ever see New York. And the transportation getting over there.
- 1:00:43Speaker 4: It's not the worst, but there are multiple options.
- 1:00:46Speaker 5: But it's not ideal, right, No, it's not.
- 1:00:48Speaker 6: And we had those discussions when the Seahawks went to
- 1:00:52Speaker 6: the Super Bowl there too, obviously.
- 1:00:54Speaker 5: Cute years ago, I.
- 1:00:56Speaker 2: Took a team bus getting out of New York City
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: for a game at New Jersey back in January. And
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: when you consider just how close at least distance wise
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: New York City is Madison Square Garden to where the
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: Devils play. It took at least forty five minutes to
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: get out of the city, get through the turnpike, and
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: finally get on the road.
- 1:01:15Speaker 3: That actually is a very good community.
- 1:01:18Speaker 5: As that's not a good day, right, that's awesome, That's
- 1:01:21Speaker 5: not a good day.
- 1:01:22Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, no, it just I think it's an odd
- 1:01:26Speaker 4: place to choose it.
- 1:01:27Speaker 3: Maybe it's the New York market.
- 1:01:29Speaker 4: They need the East Coast time zone for viewership, and
- 1:01:32Speaker 4: television controls everything these days. I just steel for the
- 1:01:37Speaker 4: people who will try trying to be at the game.
- 1:01:40Speaker 5: Yeah, I agree.
- 1:01:41Speaker 6: I do think like logistically it would have made more
- 1:01:44Speaker 6: sense somewhere like Dallas or LA because of how far
- 1:01:46Speaker 6: it is away from the stadium and the parking and
- 1:01:48Speaker 6: stuff like that.
- 1:01:49Speaker 5: So sorry, fire away is from the city. Personally, I
- 1:01:52Speaker 5: don't care.
- 1:01:53Speaker 6: I'm not going to the game right The only thing
- 1:01:54Speaker 6: I'm worried about is how the smoke will affect it.
- 1:01:57Speaker 3: Andrews only cares about Andrews.
- 1:01:58Speaker 4: I was actually talking to my dad yesterday, who is
- 1:02:01Speaker 4: driving to his college reunion in West Virginia, and it
- 1:02:05Speaker 4: is extremely hazy.
- 1:02:07Speaker 5: Okay, yeah, that's yeah.
- 1:02:08Speaker 3: It's pretty bad.
- 1:02:08Speaker 6: My sister is living in New York right now, as
- 1:02:10Speaker 6: mentioned the same thing. So hopefully it doesn't affect the game.
- 1:02:13Speaker 6: That's the only thing I'm really worried about. So if
- 1:02:14Speaker 6: there's some sort of delay, that would be quite a buzzkill.
- 1:02:17Speaker 4: So television decides everything, and there's money in the game,
- 1:02:22Speaker 4: they're gonna kick off all the time.
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: So let's wrap this up here for the benefit of
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: the Hearst family. Argentina wins this game if and Spain
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: wins this game.
- 1:02:34Speaker 5: If go ahead.
- 1:02:35Speaker 6: If Argentina wins this game, if they're able to limit
- 1:02:39Speaker 6: Spain's offensive chances, I think if they are, you know,
- 1:02:45Speaker 6: I don't think Spain's gonna win this game one zero
- 1:02:47Speaker 6: is what I'm saying, because they have a lot of
- 1:02:49Speaker 6: those types of wins in their knockout stages. If if
- 1:02:51Speaker 6: they continue with that trend, I think Argentina will at
- 1:02:54Speaker 6: least get one goal and they can at least take
- 1:02:56Speaker 6: it to extra time. If not get more than one goal,
- 1:02:59Speaker 6: Spain wins. I opposite if they if they score more
- 1:03:01Speaker 6: than one goal, I think they will be in good shape.
- 1:03:03Speaker 6: They kill off games better than any other team. Obviously,
- 1:03:06Speaker 6: it's it's hard to kill off a game, as we've
- 1:03:08Speaker 6: seen versus Argentina, but if any team can do it,
- 1:03:11Speaker 6: it is Spain if they get more than one goal. Honestly,
- 1:03:16Speaker 6: I think whoever scores first wins the game. I think
- 1:03:18Speaker 6: if Argentina score first, Spain will have to come out
- 1:03:20Speaker 6: of their shell and it will force them to kind
- 1:03:24Speaker 6: of do something they're not used to doing. If Spain
- 1:03:26Speaker 6: score first, they're just gonna lock it down, and I
- 1:03:28Speaker 6: think they're gonna this might be the one time where
- 1:03:31Speaker 6: if Argentina go down late in the game, they won't
- 1:03:33Speaker 6: be able to come back. So whoever scores first, In
- 1:03:35Speaker 6: my opinion, Andrews, you did find work.
- 1:03:37Speaker 2: We are smarter because of you in this hockey world,
- 1:03:39Speaker 2: in the soccer world appreciate it.
- 1:03:40Speaker 6: Yeah, hopefully the hockey world too. But you know, oh yeah,
- 1:03:43Speaker 6: hockeyead soccer head.
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: At the same time, give me Opening Night coming up
- 1:03:48Speaker 2: on October first, But in the meantime, give us this
- 1:03:50Speaker 2: World Cup finals. It's gonna be a great one. Last
- 1:03:53Speaker 2: team to go back to back was Brazil back in
- 1:03:55Speaker 2: nineteen sixty two. Argentina is aiming for that against what's
- 1:03:59Speaker 2: been a jugger, not Spain teams. Here it right here,
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: ninety three three KJRFM, back after this with your reaction.
- 1:04:06Speaker 2: Talkbacks text all that right here, Mike in for Gregwood
- 1:04:09Speaker 2: j Justin and not ninety three three KJRFM.
- 1:04:31Speaker 7: I bet you a solid, solid handshake that Lebron James
- 1:04:36Speaker 7: is going back to Cleveland, Cleveland, Ohio. That's where Lebron
- 1:04:41Speaker 7: James will end his career. And I bet he takes
- 1:04:45Speaker 7: them to the finals but loses. But Lebron James going
- 1:04:50Speaker 7: back to Cleveland, and Dan Wilson's got nothing get me
- 1:04:55Speaker 7: the Corps Brothers next year, Alex and Joey later.
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: How do you all feel about Alex Cora, the Mariner's manager.
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: He said he didn't want to manage it, you know,
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: this year, but no the name power. Yes, I know
- 1:05:10Speaker 2: that that there's a history again. Talkbacks are open right
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: now kjur iHeartRadio app tap the microphone under thirty seconds.
- 1:05:17Speaker 5: How do you feel about Alex Cora managing this team
- 1:05:19Speaker 5: down the road if they go there?
- 1:05:22Speaker 3: I want Dan?
- 1:05:24Speaker 2: Is the stench just still too real? Do you feel
- 1:05:26Speaker 2: that Dan Wilson's better.
- 1:05:29Speaker 3: The stench is definitely wafting.
- 1:05:31Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, it's it's still there.
- 1:05:34Speaker 4: Yes, there is that and no, and I want to
- 1:05:38Speaker 4: see Dan see this thing through.
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: Oh Lebron complicated relationship, by the way, Dick Fane's boy
- 1:05:45Speaker 2: shout out, complicated relationship with Cleveland. I've I've I've put
- 1:05:51Speaker 2: I've put the greatest of all time talk away with
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: him because he just can't decide where he wants to
- 1:05:55Speaker 2: hang his hat. I I just don't know it was
- 1:05:59Speaker 2: Cleveland and it was Miami. Then we're not gonna win two,
- 1:06:02Speaker 2: not three, not four, not five. Then back to Cleveland,
- 1:06:06Speaker 2: then back to and then to the Lakers, which we
- 1:06:08Speaker 2: all saw this one coming a mile away. I'm really
- 1:06:11Speaker 2: shocked he hasn't taken the Knicks on. And this was
- 1:06:13Speaker 2: all to talk about fifteen years ago, Jess.
- 1:06:15Speaker 3: I don't think the Knicks would do that.
- 1:06:17Speaker 5: Well, not now, not now, obviously.
- 1:06:19Speaker 4: No, but yeah, what it was Lakers. I was like,
- 1:06:23Speaker 4: did he grow up always wanting to be a Laker?
- 1:06:27Speaker 3: Maybe he gets to live out his.
- 1:06:28Speaker 2: Child as The thing is, I talked to a lot
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: of friends down there.
- 1:06:32Speaker 5: You know, I grew up down there.
- 1:06:33Speaker 2: After I moved away from here in second grade, ice,
- 1:06:37Speaker 2: middle school, high school, college as well. Lebron is not
- 1:06:41Speaker 2: a Laker. He's a guy who came into play for
- 1:06:44Speaker 2: the Lakers. Yeah, but he is not a Laker. No,
- 1:06:46Speaker 2: he is not like Kobe was as a Laker. He's
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: not the way that Magic was as a Lakers shack.
- 1:06:53Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: Do all those guys get statues outside that building at
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: the formerly known Staples Center now crypto? Shaq's got one,
- 1:07:02Speaker 2: Kobe's got one, Magic's got one?
- 1:07:07Speaker 5: Does Lebron get one? I don't think so.
- 1:07:09Speaker 3: No, No, he's he's a cavalier.
- 1:07:12Speaker 5: He's a cavalier. He's a he's an Ohio guy.
- 1:07:15Speaker 2: He's looking to He's a modern day kind of guy
- 1:07:18Speaker 2: where if you want to call it ring chasing, fine.
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: I tend to kind of hate that term because every
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: every guy wants to win a ring.
- 1:07:25Speaker 4: Ye.
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: But yeah, he's he's always looking to move the goalposts
- 1:07:28Speaker 2: of where he thinks he has the best option.
- 1:07:30Speaker 5: It doesn't matter.
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: Mean.
- 1:07:31Speaker 2: Bottom line is loyalty is out the window period loyalty
- 1:07:35Speaker 2: some sense, it's got to be a corvette that.
- 1:07:37Speaker 3: Went away with the decision.
- 1:07:39Speaker 5: Yes, yes, I remember, I remember where I was back.
- 1:07:42Speaker 3: Even though he went back. I remember where I was too.
- 1:07:46Speaker 3: It was a pivotal moment in sports history.
- 1:07:48Speaker 2: I remember I was on the treadmill back at a
- 1:07:50Speaker 2: gym and stocked in California when I was working in
- 1:07:52Speaker 2: minor league hockey, and everyone in that gym, and it
- 1:07:55Speaker 2: was a massive gym. Also, it was built out of
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: like a former bank building and the whole bottom floor
- 1:08:03Speaker 2: was like renovated from like a bank vault into like
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: it was a really really really cool gym. But everyone's eye,
- 1:08:10Speaker 2: every monitor in this place was dialed into ESPN, and
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: everyone was glued. It didn't matter whether whether it was treadmill,
- 1:08:17Speaker 2: whether it was elliptical, whether it was wait's over in
- 1:08:21Speaker 2: the corner.
- 1:08:21Speaker 5: They were all glued to this thing was a big deal.
- 1:08:26Speaker 4: Uh.
- 1:08:26Speaker 2: Two three On the text line, if I'm not mistaken,
- 1:08:29Speaker 2: Jamal was hurt the two months leading up to the
- 1:08:31Speaker 2: World Cup. To me, he's been really heating up here
- 1:08:34Speaker 2: in the last two games. Two five to three. This
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: Argentina team is a ninety five Arkansas Razorbacks and March madness.
- 1:08:42Speaker 2: If you don't remember, look it up. And that's why
- 1:08:46Speaker 2: Spain wins on Sunday. What a reference for those of
- 1:08:50Speaker 2: you around here for this the Kingdome, the Final Four.
- 1:08:53Speaker 2: I watched it on TV back in the day when
- 1:08:55Speaker 2: you see LA beat Arkansas and Arkansas had some dudes.
- 1:09:00Speaker 5: They had some dudes.
- 1:09:01Speaker 2: Clinton McDaniel NBA, Corey Beck NBA, Corlis Williamson NBA. UCLA
- 1:09:09Speaker 2: had a pretty good lineup, Toby Bailey, Tya Sadney, who
- 1:09:12Speaker 2: hit one of the greatest game winning shots in March
- 1:09:16Speaker 2: Madness history, the Obannon Brothers, Georgzitak, who wasn't a slouch
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: at center as well, but they had a guy who
- 1:09:24Speaker 2: was pushing all the right buttons in Jim Herrick. I
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: know that there was some recruiting stuff going on, and
- 1:09:29Speaker 2: we can talk about that separately, but there was a
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: solid lineup yet Arkansas was loaded. Arkansas was loaded. So
- 1:09:38Speaker 2: I love that comparison. And this is why a lot
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: of folks are picking Spain. It's system over talent. It
- 1:09:45Speaker 2: is a system over talent.
- 1:09:46Speaker 4: It is going to be an extremely exciting match, to
- 1:09:50Speaker 4: say the least.
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: Six.
- 1:09:52Speaker 3: I'm actually really really bumped about it.
- 1:09:55Speaker 5: Sorry about that. Sorry, yeah, sorry about that. Sunday.
- 1:09:57Speaker 2: I can't wait for that too. Two O six no
- 1:10:00Speaker 2: MESSI no Messy. No, no, no, nope, Messi has not
- 1:10:04Speaker 2: ended the greatest of all time talk. Please, I'm sick
- 1:10:08Speaker 2: of it. I'm sick of the hype. It's sports radio
- 1:10:11Speaker 2: and greatest quote unquote is an endless topics. So it's
- 1:10:14Speaker 2: perfect for it. But any sports fan who has lived
- 1:10:17Speaker 2: through more than one generation of players knows it is
- 1:10:19Speaker 2: a meaningless conversation. Okay, I disagree, but your favorite Za
- 1:10:24Speaker 2: Dane's my favorite? Remember from France from the two oh six.
- 1:10:29Speaker 5: Sdan, thank you?
- 1:10:30Speaker 3: Yeah that's I thought you were dark.
- 1:10:32Speaker 2: The overhype of Messi is there and rooting for Spain
- 1:10:37Speaker 2: in the final left from the two oh six. Okay,
- 1:10:40Speaker 2: I still think Messi is the greatest of all time.
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: And I've seen some guys come on through.
- 1:10:45Speaker 3: We've seen a lot of greats.
- 1:10:46Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, a lot of greats. But I mean is
- 1:10:48Speaker 2: is play is backing it up right now? In this
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: World Cup He's done everything that you could really ask for.
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: And to be honest, you know what, what what if
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: he scores in the World Cup final?
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: What if he.
- 1:10:58Speaker 5: Scores to what if he scores a? This is this
- 1:11:02Speaker 5: is greats of all time stuff?
- 1:11:04Speaker 2: And listen, I get there that there is a recency
- 1:11:07Speaker 2: bias that we deal with here in sports media. But
- 1:11:09Speaker 2: this is a guy meeting the moment. His twelve assists
- 1:11:13Speaker 2: already lead this entire World Cup. He's got the name power,
- 1:11:16Speaker 2: he's got the branding power.
- 1:11:18Speaker 3: And he's still living up to it.
- 1:11:20Speaker 2: And if we're saying, oh, he can't win the big one,
- 1:11:22Speaker 2: well he already won one and he showed up again
- 1:11:25Speaker 2: in the semi final. I mean he's he's scuttling everything everything.
- 1:11:30Speaker 2: As far as expectations, this is greatest of all time stuff.
- 1:11:34Speaker 2: As far as I'm concerned, two five three. If the
- 1:11:36Speaker 2: Mariners don't have a four to five game lead going
- 1:11:39Speaker 2: into August, and there's a good chance they missed the postseason,
- 1:11:42Speaker 2: that schedule in August is brutal and outside of play
- 1:11:46Speaker 2: in the Astros, the Mariners are seven under five hundred
- 1:11:49Speaker 2: against the rest of MLB. I didn't get a chance
- 1:11:52Speaker 2: to get to that, by the way, but a great
- 1:11:53Speaker 2: take there from the two five to three. This is
- 1:11:56Speaker 2: why I say you have to make your hay now,
- 1:11:59Speaker 2: because is creeping right on up.
- 1:12:04Speaker 4: I know what Greg and I have been talking about
- 1:12:07Speaker 4: going It's like back to school shopping. When you realize
- 1:12:10Speaker 4: the summer is coming to a close. It's only the
- 1:12:12Speaker 4: middle of July right now, but now is the time
- 1:12:16Speaker 4: that the tough get going.
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: My wife's also a school teacher, and she's already getting
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: sick and tired of seeing back to school ads and TV.
- 1:12:23Speaker 2: Never mind that I've already seen Halloween sales going on
- 1:12:28Speaker 2: July seventeenth. No, speaking of a guy who's not scary,
- 1:12:31Speaker 2: that's Chris Crawford, he joins us.
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: Next.
- 1:12:47Speaker 2: Yeah, one of the benefits of having a TV here
- 1:12:50Speaker 2: in the studio is getting a chance to see what
- 1:12:52Speaker 2: else is going on. And Chris Crawford brought up this
- 1:12:54Speaker 2: great thing. How about the red siding a draft pick
- 1:12:57Speaker 2: for first round, eighteenth overall and justin Lebron, how about
- 1:13:02Speaker 2: carrying that weight on your shoulders. If you're a first
- 1:13:05Speaker 2: round pick of the Cincinnati Reds and you're from Ohio
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: with the name Lebron.
- 1:13:10Speaker 8: Lebron is going back to Hawaii, Ohio. The other Lebron
- 1:13:14Speaker 8: not so sure if he wants to make his decision.
- 1:13:15Speaker 8: This one has made his decision, he'll be playing.
- 1:13:17Speaker 2: It's at this point where I just even even don't care.
- 1:13:21Speaker 2: I really don't care, because this has all been the
- 1:13:24Speaker 2: act over and over. Is how much attention excessively that
- 1:13:31Speaker 2: we can draw from this?
- 1:13:32Speaker 5: Oh my god, going.
- 1:13:33Speaker 2: Back to the decision, yeah, going back to when he
- 1:13:36Speaker 2: put the chosen one in a tattoo.
- 1:13:39Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean I am a huge Lebron stand but
- 1:13:41Speaker 8: at this point, it's also like you are a third
- 1:13:46Speaker 8: best player on a good team type guy. I don't
- 1:13:48Speaker 8: need to hear. I don't need this drawn out as
- 1:13:51Speaker 8: much like I don't need to hear. I'm not ready
- 1:13:53Speaker 8: to make my decision yet. I'm not ready for this stuff.
- 1:13:56Speaker 8: Like shut up.
- 1:13:58Speaker 2: No, I don't want to be mistaken here, because I
- 1:14:00Speaker 2: get it. I mean all all pro athletes have an ego.
- 1:14:03Speaker 2: They have to how how big they are. It depends
- 1:14:06Speaker 2: upon the player. Sure, they all have egos there. They
- 1:14:08Speaker 2: are here to get their money. They're only guaranteed about,
- 1:14:11Speaker 2: on average, about four years in their pro in their
- 1:14:14Speaker 2: pro sports league of choice, and then they're basically flushed
- 1:14:17Speaker 2: out of the system.
- 1:14:17Speaker 5: So I get it. But I listen. I get that
- 1:14:21Speaker 5: MJ had an ego.
- 1:14:22Speaker 2: I get that Magic had an ego as well, But
- 1:14:25Speaker 2: at this point with with the Lebron, I don't know
- 1:14:28Speaker 2: if he wants to be the greatest of all time
- 1:14:31Speaker 2: based on championships one or be the greatest of all
- 1:14:34Speaker 2: time based on longevity.
- 1:14:35Speaker 5: Of a career that right now is basically rivaling Phil
- 1:14:37Speaker 5: Nicholson decent little cough yeah, decent cough.
- 1:14:41Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:14:41Speaker 8: You know it's uh, certainly better than most, but not
- 1:14:44Speaker 8: at the same level that it was. And you know
- 1:14:46Speaker 8: you can't help. But also both of them were in
- 1:14:49Speaker 8: Entourage and pretty terrible.
- 1:14:50Speaker 2: Ackn oh, that's a show gone by the wayside. I
- 1:14:54Speaker 2: actually pulled that back out on DVD a few nice
- 1:14:56Speaker 2: to go. I heard too that that that show. And
- 1:14:59Speaker 2: I I taught to some folks in the entertainment side
- 1:15:01Speaker 2: of things. And I have a good friend and I
- 1:15:03Speaker 2: hate I hate name dropping here because I get nailed
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: for it all the time. Sure, but he grew up
- 1:15:08Speaker 2: in a pretty well to do environment.
- 1:15:12Speaker 5: Dad is an agent.
- 1:15:14Speaker 2: Dad has tickets literally by the on deck circle of
- 1:15:18Speaker 2: the Dodgers dugout at Dodger Stadium. His partner in his
- 1:15:23Speaker 2: old agency was the inspiration behind Ari.
- 1:15:27Speaker 5: Gold in Entage.
- 1:15:28Speaker 2: Okay, and you taught to many folks in the entertainment
- 1:15:32Speaker 2: world that show is basically ninety percent true to life
- 1:15:38Speaker 2: in Hollywood.
- 1:15:39Speaker 5: I've heard it's very more than any other show based
- 1:15:42Speaker 5: on LA I've heard it's pretty accurate. I've heard that
- 1:15:44Speaker 5: it does have a little bit of a.
- 1:15:47Speaker 8: Connection there that maybe some Hollywood people don't love, but
- 1:15:51Speaker 8: it is. It's definitely one that I watched. It didn't
- 1:15:54Speaker 8: age gracefully in some areas. No, they did not know,
- 1:15:57Speaker 8: but there's there's definitely. I still get my Vinych fixing
- 1:16:00Speaker 8: every one.
- 1:16:01Speaker 5: Yeah, seriously, mean, it's even great following. I remember even
- 1:16:04Speaker 5: who was the guy who played Eric again.
- 1:16:07Speaker 2: Oh gosh, I forgot big, big, big hockey fan Islanders guy, right,
- 1:16:11Speaker 2: I remember, Yeah, he's an Islander guy. I remember actually
- 1:16:13Speaker 2: walking past him when I was in the minor leagues
- 1:16:15Speaker 2: and I was helping out the Edmonton Oilers at the
- 1:16:17Speaker 2: Taylor Hall draft Tyler Sagan and he was actually a
- 1:16:21Speaker 2: guest announcing the Islander pick.
- 1:16:23Speaker 5: I can't believe how small he was, by the way.
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: He's a.
- 1:16:26Speaker 5: Maybe.
- 1:16:27Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I hung out with him.
- 1:16:28Speaker 4: He actually came when I was working across the lake,
- 1:16:31Speaker 4: came into studio and the majority of everyone except.
- 1:16:34Speaker 3: For Vinnie was there.
- 1:16:36Speaker 5: He's a decent guy too.
- 1:16:37Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:16:38Speaker 4: Yeah, Kevin Dillon, I believe, yeah, yes, and then Turtle
- 1:16:42Speaker 4: was there, but he demanded to catch passes from one
- 1:16:48Speaker 4: of the former quarterbacks I used to work, right, it
- 1:16:52Speaker 4: was hystericl.
- 1:16:56Speaker 2: Though, that's great, Well you killed it on the show yesterday,
- 1:16:59Speaker 2: just like used to kill an entertainment here.
- 1:17:03Speaker 5: My goodness.
- 1:17:04Speaker 2: I loved hearing the connection, by the way, earlier in
- 1:17:06Speaker 2: the text line from Spain Argentina about this being like
- 1:17:09Speaker 2: UCLA and Arkansas.
- 1:17:10Speaker 5: You know that game at all?
- 1:17:11Speaker 8: Of course, yeah, I mean that the forty minutes of
- 1:17:14Speaker 8: hell that Arkansas used to have the the Nolan Richardson teams.
- 1:17:18Speaker 5: I remember they were.
- 1:17:19Speaker 2: Going from back to back all so it didn't happen.
- 1:17:21Speaker 2: So this is where the connection was also made to and.
- 1:17:23Speaker 8: You know that UCLA team was just it was kind
- 1:17:25Speaker 8: of a one off, but it was. And I can
- 1:17:27Speaker 8: still remember two games before that the Tigas Eddie layup
- 1:17:31Speaker 8: to beat Missouri in that game. That that's that's a
- 1:17:34Speaker 8: good cop though, because it is kind of that a
- 1:17:36Speaker 8: little bit of a flashy or UCLA and a Arkansas
- 1:17:41Speaker 8: team that just full court pressed and just tried to
- 1:17:44Speaker 8: Carlos Williamson man, that guy was a.
- 1:17:47Speaker 5: He was a dude. They had dudes on that they did.
- 1:17:49Speaker 8: Yeah, Arkansas, Arkansas is pretty good now, but that Arkansas
- 1:17:53Speaker 8: team in the mid nineties was pretty sick.
- 1:17:54Speaker 2: Well, hey, nice at nice sweat shirts. Well till the
- 1:17:57Speaker 2: hockey season kicks back in here. But what you got
- 1:17:59Speaker 2: going here for today?
- 1:17:59Speaker 5: We're gonna do a whole bunch of trade stuff.
- 1:18:02Speaker 8: We're gonna talk a bunch about the National League c
- 1:18:05Speaker 8: Ja Brams spoiler alert, maybe number one on my list,
- 1:18:08Speaker 8: but there's a lot of guys that I think in
- 1:18:10Speaker 8: the National League can help this team. And then we
- 1:18:12Speaker 8: didn't get to my Seahawks rant about why everyone needs
- 1:18:15Speaker 8: this team to be so beloved, But we'll talk about
- 1:18:18Speaker 8: that in two o'clock.
- 1:18:19Speaker 2: Well, you're rid a kaf up at the starting pitcher
- 1:18:21Speaker 2: for a bat.
- 1:18:22Speaker 5: Yep, Oh, let's get after it as after.
- 1:18:24Speaker 2: Chris Crafford's in for Ian Andrews, also joining the show
- 1:18:27Speaker 2: as well. Back of the next week, Jackson's got Monday.
- 1:18:30Speaker 2: But appreciate this saying for Greg Bell and for Jesse
- 1:18:33Speaker 2: and I'm Mike see
