Transcript
- 0:18Speaker 1: Hey, everybody, Emily Abadi here, you are listening to five
- 0:22Speaker 1: Minute Friday from Hurdle.
- 0:24Speaker 2: Oh man, it has been an insane week.
- 0:28Speaker 1: I literally felt hungover with how much love I was
- 0:37Speaker 1: met with last weekend. I talked on the show about
- 0:41Speaker 1: celebrating my birthday last Friday, and I don't know if
- 0:46Speaker 1: I've ever felt so beyond measure in terms of supported
- 0:54Speaker 1: and cared for. And I feel really grateful for that
- 0:58Speaker 1: this year, this last around the Sun. Now for last
- 1:03Speaker 1: week's installment of the weekly Hurdle newsletter, which comes out
- 1:07Speaker 1: every Friday. If you're not subscribed just yet, the link
- 1:10Speaker 1: to do that is in the show notes. But I
- 1:12Speaker 1: shared thirty five different lessons I learned in honor of
- 1:16Speaker 1: my thirty fifth year, and one of those lessons something
- 1:20Speaker 1: I talk about all the time. It's my through line
- 1:22Speaker 1: for twenty twenty three and certainly am bringing this into
- 1:26Speaker 1: my year thirty five is energy attracts like energy. And
- 1:31Speaker 1: last Friday I was in the best mood. I started
- 1:34Speaker 1: the day by doing a strength workout. I then rode
- 1:38Speaker 1: bikes with some friends and I quickly showered and got
- 1:42Speaker 1: myself together to get back out the door to go
- 1:45Speaker 1: meet some friends to lay out by the pool, and
- 1:49Speaker 1: before I hopped in a car because I was in
- 1:52Speaker 1: a bit of a rush.
- 1:53Speaker 2: I stopped inside of the seven.
- 1:56Speaker 1: To eleven not far from my apartment, and I go
- 1:58Speaker 1: to check out at the counter with a beverage and
- 2:02Speaker 1: the cashier and I exchanged some niceties.
- 2:04Speaker 2: He asked me how my day is. I'm saying, I'm having.
- 2:06Speaker 1: A really great day. It's so nice outside, what great
- 2:09Speaker 1: weather we're having. And then he looks at what I'm
- 2:12Speaker 1: buying and asks me if I like I was buying,
- 2:16Speaker 1: to be completely honest, a tall can of sugar free
- 2:21Speaker 1: like alcoholic lemonade Seltzer. And he says to me, how
- 2:25Speaker 1: do you like those? And I was like, actually, I
- 2:27Speaker 1: really like this one. It's super refreshing. And he looks
- 2:31Speaker 1: at me and then he looks back at the fridge
- 2:33Speaker 1: behind me and he says, go grab another one. I'm
- 2:36Speaker 1: gonna buy it for you. I love your energy. I
- 2:40Speaker 1: was so flattered. I told him, of course, he did
- 2:42Speaker 1: not have to do that, and he insisted. So I
- 2:45Speaker 1: grabbed another can and I brought it to the counter,
- 2:47Speaker 1: And to be completely frank, I thought that he was
- 2:51Speaker 1: probably just gonna not even ring it up, but he
- 2:55Speaker 1: rings up the second tallgan and then he swipes his
- 2:59Speaker 1: debit card, his personal debit card, and I just looked
- 3:03Speaker 1: at him and I was like, that was so unnecessary,
- 3:05Speaker 1: but I'm going to tell you something now, and he's like,
- 3:07Speaker 1: what's that. I was like, it's my birthday today, and
- 3:09Speaker 1: he could not believe it.
- 3:11Speaker 2: It was just the.
- 3:11Speaker 1: Most beautiful moment between two complete strangers.
- 3:16Speaker 2: I haven't seen him since. I need to like go
- 3:18Speaker 2: back in there and look for him.
- 3:19Speaker 1: But it truly gave me goosebumps and was the epitome
- 3:23Speaker 1: of energy attracts like energy and I after having such
- 3:27Speaker 1: a remarkable day, and that was just like one of
- 3:30Speaker 1: the things that contributed to the great day. I woke
- 3:33Speaker 1: up the next day and asked myself, why not today too?
- 3:40Speaker 1: What is stopping me from approaching every single day with
- 3:43Speaker 1: that level of happiness, that giddiness, that opportunity mindset? Every
- 3:49Speaker 1: day I have the opportunity, we all have the opportunity
- 3:53Speaker 1: to get up and go after the energy that we
- 3:57Speaker 1: want to attract. I giggle because it's like that class
- 4:00Speaker 1: sick Drake line, like turn my birthday into a lifestyle,
- 4:04Speaker 1: Like maybe that's.
- 4:05Speaker 2: What I've just got to do. Maybe that's what we
- 4:07Speaker 2: all have to do.
- 4:08Speaker 1: Approach every day like it's a day to celebrate, to
- 4:12Speaker 1: be present, to tell people that you love them, to
- 4:15Speaker 1: tell people that you appreciate them, and watch what happens
- 4:18Speaker 1: when that is the energy that you greet your days with.
- 4:22Speaker 1: My prompt for you this week, who are you buying
- 4:25Speaker 1: a can for? Who is someone that you appreciate their
- 4:29Speaker 1: energy and you want to let them know you want
- 4:32Speaker 1: to show them your appreciation. And to be clear, you
- 4:36Speaker 1: don't actually need to buy them a tall can of
- 4:39Speaker 1: alcoholic lemonade, but maybe you just tell them today who
- 4:44Speaker 1: are you going to tell that you appreciate what they're
- 4:47Speaker 1: bringing to the table. And now a listener question. Happy birthday, Emily.
- 4:54Speaker 2: As the years go by and you've moved to different
- 4:56Speaker 2: homes along the way, what is one random thing you
- 4:59Speaker 2: know you can toss but you keep on bringing with you.
- 5:02Speaker 1: Wow, this is a good question, you know. The first
- 5:05Speaker 1: thing that comes to mind is, actually, this is so random.
- 5:10Speaker 2: My wetsuit.
- 5:11Speaker 1: So I've done one. I've done one triathlon in my life.
- 5:16Speaker 1: It was the New York City Triathlon. It was an
- 5:18Speaker 1: Olympic distance try and somehow during that triathlon, I ripped
- 5:25Speaker 1: the leg of my wet suit. I also haven't worn
- 5:29Speaker 1: this wetsuit like since that day. So not only am
- 5:31Speaker 1: I keeping this wetsuit that has a hole in it,
- 5:35Speaker 1: but since I haven't used it since this day and
- 5:38Speaker 1: this day, I want to say I did this like
- 5:40Speaker 1: eight years ago. Maybe I just think that by the
- 5:45Speaker 1: time it's if I ever and I have a feeling
- 5:49Speaker 1: I will if I ever do another triathlon, and Iron
- 5:53Speaker 1: Man is not off of my radar.
- 5:55Speaker 2: Let's just say that.
- 5:56Speaker 1: But if I do another triathlon, by the time that happens,
- 5:59Speaker 1: probably gonna need a different wetsuit. Anyway, I know this
- 6:02Speaker 1: wasn't really an exciting answer. Beyond the whatsuit, something else
- 6:07Speaker 1: in my home that I have been moving with from
- 6:09Speaker 1: apartment to apartment. Okay, I know it's my soda stream.
- 6:14Speaker 1: I don't know if people still use soda streams. I'm
- 6:17Speaker 1: a sucker for an ice cold can of Seltzer and
- 6:22Speaker 1: so my affinity for trying different flavors of Seltzer's and
- 6:28Speaker 1: drinking them out of really nice chili cans has replaced
- 6:33Speaker 1: me using the soda stream and so yeah, I think
- 6:37Speaker 1: it's probably time that we part ways.
- 6:40Speaker 2: A profound five.
- 6:41Speaker 1: Minute Friday for you this week, make sure you're following
