- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey guys.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Oh my goodness, Hey guys, welcome to another episode of
- 0:10Speaker 2: Eating While Broke. I'm your host Coley Witt, and today
- 0:13Speaker 2: we have the legendary Damien Hall, producer, songwriter and founding
- 0:18Speaker 2: member of the legendary R and B group.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Guy, you grew up on New Jacks Wing.
- 0:22Speaker 2: You already knew know the impact the Timeless records, NonStop
- 0:26Speaker 2: energy and the sound that helped define an entire era.
- 0:30Speaker 3: I like that. That's that's a nice little intro. You know. Look,
- 0:33Speaker 3: at the end of the day, Guy was everything to me.
- 0:38Speaker 3: For me, when you're come into a group with your brother,
- 1:04Speaker 3: who you know, I loved to call my soul. I
- 1:07Speaker 3: was in college when he came to school. It was like, Yo,
- 1:12Speaker 3: hold on a second, Yo, I want to be famous, right,
- 1:17Speaker 3: And I said, I said, He said I want to
- 1:19Speaker 3: be famous, and I was like, you want to be famous?
- 1:21Speaker 3: He said, Yo, you got to come and be in
- 1:23Speaker 3: this group. I called my dad. I called my dad
- 1:27Speaker 3: and said, Dad, can I leave school? He said, you
- 1:30Speaker 3: can do what you want to do. I left right
- 1:32Speaker 3: before finals and I went to help my brother. You
- 1:34Speaker 3: know what I'm saying, And this ain't supposed to be
- 1:36Speaker 3: smoking Like that. So there's something on there y'all about
- 1:39Speaker 3: to catch us on fire in this month. But look,
- 1:42Speaker 3: so at the end of the day, you know, when
- 1:45Speaker 3: my brother wanted something, I knew, he was so excited
- 1:48Speaker 3: about it. And for me, I wanted to be a businessman.
- 1:52Speaker 3: I really wanted to be able to open up businesses
- 1:56Speaker 3: and know where money come from, know where that dollar
- 1:59Speaker 3: come from. And I also wanted to be a martialized
- 2:02Speaker 3: action movie star because I just love the fighting aspects
- 2:07Speaker 3: of knowing what to do with your body and how
- 2:08Speaker 3: to do it right. But when I went to New York,
- 2:12Speaker 3: because I was a Virginia State University. When I went
- 2:14Speaker 3: to New York and I saw the excitement, I heard
- 2:16Speaker 3: the music, I was like, wow, I didn't understand it.
- 2:20Speaker 3: But I'm a drummer. So when I heard him, and
- 2:21Speaker 3: I was like, man, you sound good man and Teddy.
- 2:25Speaker 3: Teddy had this big fir fox coat on with a
- 2:29Speaker 3: four finger diamond gold ring and he was at the
- 2:32Speaker 3: board and I was like, man, who's this young nigga?
- 2:34Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying like, and there was this
- 2:36Speaker 3: jam and I was like, this is great. So anything
- 2:39Speaker 3: for my brother, and I tell people this, you know
- 2:40Speaker 3: what I'm saying. Am I my brother's keeper? Yes? I am.
- 2:43Speaker 3: I believe that sometime you have to give up what
- 2:46Speaker 3: it is you want to do to help somebody else
- 2:49Speaker 3: get to that level. Wow, you know what I'm saying.
- 2:51Speaker 3: And so I took the responsibility to say I was
- 2:56Speaker 3: the first person to go to college to say I'm
- 2:58Speaker 3: not going to finish college and I'm gonna go and
- 3:01Speaker 3: make sure that my brother can get the life he wanted,
- 3:05Speaker 3: you know what I'm saying. And whatever level I was
- 3:07Speaker 3: gonna fit into it, I fit into it. And I
- 3:10Speaker 3: ended up being, you know, the third group member, the
- 3:13Speaker 3: third member, Aaron Hall's brother, and then came with the
- 3:17Speaker 3: nickname Crazy Legs, and then I was Crazy Legs. But
- 3:20Speaker 3: it's like he's the third guy, right, the guy on
- 3:23Speaker 3: the drums, He's the third guy. And when I saw
- 3:26Speaker 3: that and we was on Apollo and I was playing
- 3:30Speaker 3: the Aaron and the Teddy was on the front just
- 3:31Speaker 3: doing eything, I was like, everybody screaming for them. I'm
- 3:33Speaker 3: on the drums. They're not paying attention to me. We
- 3:36Speaker 3: got the same outfit on I was like, hell, no,
- 3:38Speaker 3: I'm not playing drums no more. Because I realized if
- 3:42Speaker 3: I stay in the drums, it's not like a rock group.
- 3:44Speaker 3: Like rock groups, you know, this is the band, this
- 3:46Speaker 3: is what it is. They all get. I would have
- 3:48Speaker 3: been non famous being on the drums because they was
- 3:51Speaker 3: only focusing on Aaron and Teddy. So I had to
- 3:55Speaker 3: create my own little niche within the group. And you know,
- 3:59Speaker 3: I'm I'm I'm happy for what the group did and
- 4:03Speaker 3: what the group can still do.
- 4:04Speaker 2: How hard was the journey in the beginning? Oh and bye,
- 4:08Speaker 2: by the way, what are you gonna have me eating today?
- 4:10Speaker 3: We're gonna eat the turkey.
- 4:13Speaker 2: Slammer, the turkey slam and your your plates are hot?
- 4:17Speaker 3: My plates need both burners, you know what. I don't
- 4:20Speaker 3: really don't need both burners. So we're gonna turn up
- 4:23Speaker 3: the one that's about to kill us. Yes, but here, yes,
- 4:26Speaker 3: gonna turn that. We live up to our were We
- 4:29Speaker 3: are not playing no games, So this one we're gonna do.
- 4:33Speaker 1: Okay.
- 4:33Speaker 3: And oh he has the I got grapes sea. You
- 4:38Speaker 3: don't don't mess them onney, don't mess up in it.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Okay. So the what's the ingredients? What's the name of
- 4:44Speaker 1: the sandwich? This is a turkey slammer, A turkey slammer,
- 4:47Speaker 1: and what's the ingredients?
- 4:47Speaker 3: We have regular sandwich, turkey chopped up. We have your spinach,
- 4:53Speaker 3: we have three eggs. We have your honey wheat bread.
- 4:57Speaker 3: We have Lowry's because you know, black people use Larrys
- 5:01Speaker 3: is everything. I don't really need all the rest of
- 5:03Speaker 3: that and mayonnaise when I say this is the.
- 5:10Speaker 1: Well, I know Laurie's has salt and sugar, and it does.
- 5:14Speaker 3: But I get it.
- 5:16Speaker 1: But for you, no, no, no, I was just curious. I
- 5:19Speaker 1: wanted to the way.
- 5:20Speaker 3: No no, I gotta make sure you like it too,
- 5:23Speaker 3: So I put some pepper in that joint so you can,
- 5:25Speaker 3: you know, you can at least take a bite of it.
- 5:28Speaker 1: Okay, we'll get to cooking.
- 5:30Speaker 3: Okay, get to cooking. Here we go. Were just as
- 5:33Speaker 3: good luck with this breakage.
- 5:36Speaker 2: How long did it take you from being in leaving
- 5:41Speaker 2: college she be coming to breaking your first huge hit?
- 5:46Speaker 2: How How long and how hard was that journey?
- 5:48Speaker 3: Man? You know what it's? It's I think as soon
- 5:50Speaker 3: as I went to New York and went to the
- 5:55Speaker 3: studio and so Am and a Teddy, I heard a hit.
- 5:59Speaker 3: I didn't know what the hit was, but I heard
- 6:01Speaker 3: something that made me. I'm a church boy, you know
- 6:04Speaker 3: what I'm saying. I was praise the Lord. God is good.
- 6:07Speaker 3: Don't cuss, don't do that. I didn't do any of that.
- 6:10Speaker 3: I didn't talk to I didn't talk to females. This
- 6:14Speaker 3: is for real. My whole high school, I wasn't talking
- 6:18Speaker 3: to girls. So everybody was like, damn, d don't do anything.
- 6:20Speaker 3: I did martial arts all the time. Me and my friends.
- 6:23Speaker 3: We rode bikes. I was doing BMX before BMX, we
- 6:26Speaker 3: was skateboarding, basketball, football, stickball, we were doing everything. You know,
- 6:32Speaker 3: if you're from New York. We did something called ringo Levio.
- 6:35Speaker 3: I don't know if you okay, you hide to take
- 6:37Speaker 3: a belt or any weapon of your choice. It's like
- 6:42Speaker 3: twelve people on one side and twelve people on the
- 6:44Speaker 3: other side, or could be twenty four and twenty four,
- 6:46Speaker 3: whatever it is, and you'll take this weapon, and you'll
- 6:49Speaker 3: hide this weapon underneath a particular place, maybe underneath a
- 6:55Speaker 3: car wheel. And then the other team you go, okay,
- 6:59Speaker 3: go ahead and for it. And you got to be
- 7:01Speaker 3: like real close behind them, and you go cold hot
- 7:05Speaker 3: hot when they grab that joint. What they just they God,
- 7:10Speaker 3: if they hit you, then you gotta go and stay
- 7:13Speaker 3: on a curve like like's some kind of there's a
- 7:16Speaker 3: place like a cell. Right, so we try to get
- 7:20Speaker 3: as much of the try to get as much of
- 7:23Speaker 3: the of the people. Oh okay, hold on, this is
- 7:27Speaker 3: a new one, so we gotta get it. We gotta
- 7:30Speaker 3: get as much of the people that you can on
- 7:32Speaker 3: to that that cell. And then if you if you
- 7:36Speaker 3: got to them, then the whole team you know kind
- 7:39Speaker 3: of bucks you up do what they do whatever whatever.
- 7:42Speaker 3: And it was fun. So, you know, we played a
- 7:45Speaker 3: bunch of games.
- 7:47Speaker 1: So how long did it take?
- 7:48Speaker 2: How long and how hard was that journey to get
- 7:52Speaker 2: to that first hit?
- 7:52Speaker 1: Though? Would you say, looking back, look.
- 7:58Speaker 3: No, no, no, I'm good.
- 8:00Speaker 1: Okay, we didn't.
- 8:01Speaker 3: I don't know, just like one of those one of
- 8:03Speaker 3: those get downs, you know what I mean, burn me out,
- 8:06Speaker 3: don't burn me out. So when you heard when when
- 8:11Speaker 3: I heard the music, the music was so amazing, you
- 8:16Speaker 3: wouldn't think that it wouldn't work. And again I didn't.
- 8:21Speaker 3: I didn't know anything from anything when you're talking about
- 8:25Speaker 3: the music, right, So I just I just knew it
- 8:27Speaker 3: was it was dope. It sounded great. I knew my
- 8:29Speaker 3: brother sounded phenomenal something because he's a church boy. He
- 8:33Speaker 3: was stinging with Hezekiah Walker, you know a lot of
- 8:36Speaker 3: the main Gospel Choaiet groups and all that stuff. And
- 8:41Speaker 3: for me, I was happy for him. Again, I was
- 8:43Speaker 3: happy for him. I didn't I just wanted to be down,
- 8:47Speaker 3: and I wanted to be down for him in any
- 8:49Speaker 3: which way that I needed to be down.
- 8:55Speaker 2: She's looking like, oh, you drop out of school, you
- 8:59Speaker 2: and your brother, you guys all pack it up, go
- 9:01Speaker 2: to New York.
- 9:02Speaker 1: You go to the studio in New York. You hear
- 9:04Speaker 1: the record, You're like, this is a hit. How long?
- 9:09Speaker 1: How long are you guys like thugging it out for?
- 9:14Speaker 1: You know? Are you staying with people?
- 9:16Speaker 3: Nope? No, Listen. I was in college, came out of college,
- 9:22Speaker 3: and my brother was with Teddy doing a lot of
- 9:25Speaker 3: stuff with Teddy at Teddy's apartment. There was at his
- 9:28Speaker 3: mom his mom's apartment, so they would be hustling day
- 9:33Speaker 3: and night and will be on the couch like only
- 9:36Speaker 3: doing those late night sessions. I didn't go through any
- 9:38Speaker 3: of those sessions because I was in college. Again, I
- 9:41Speaker 3: was in college at that time. Okay, so being in college,
- 9:44Speaker 3: I didn't know what he was doing. I just let
- 9:47Speaker 3: me go back to this. It's very important. When he
- 9:50Speaker 3: was at my school, anybody thought Aaron went to Virginia
- 9:53Speaker 3: State University because we did something where we competed. Every year,
- 9:59Speaker 3: students would compet, and Aaron did a song with a
- 10:01Speaker 3: girl that he wrote, Smile. Now, anybody I know gud
- 10:05Speaker 3: music on the Future album. Smile was on the Future album.
- 10:09Speaker 3: Aaron wrote that song in eighty seven that didn't come
- 10:13Speaker 3: out until ninety Right nineteen ninety one, Aaron already was
- 10:17Speaker 3: writing that song. And he won at my school that
- 10:21Speaker 3: he didn't go to the year before. I won. OHK,
- 10:25Speaker 3: so my brother came in upstage with me, which is cool.
- 10:28Speaker 1: He wasn't even going to the school.
- 10:29Speaker 3: Now he wasn't, but everybody thought so when people say, oh,
- 10:31Speaker 3: Anon went to Virginia State University too and went to
- 10:33Speaker 3: Virginia State, and I go, well, okay, he really didn't
- 10:36Speaker 3: go to Virginia State. But that's fine. But I think
- 10:39Speaker 3: the song, the songs and the grind. I was staying
- 10:44Speaker 3: with my dad. I would be and my dad and
- 10:46Speaker 3: still going back forth to the house.
- 10:49Speaker 1: And but you dropping out. He didn't make you work
- 10:51Speaker 1: extra jobs or anything.
- 10:52Speaker 3: I never worked a nine to five job. Ever I worked.
- 10:56Speaker 3: I was the youngest trader on New York Stock Exchange.
- 11:01Speaker 3: So my dad was a partner at a company called
- 11:04Speaker 3: Benjamin Jacobson and Sons that got brought up forty years
- 11:07Speaker 3: later from Goldman Sachs. And I was a young trader
- 11:13Speaker 3: doing question trades tween the ages of fourteen and sixteen.
- 11:17Speaker 1: Your dad taught you that to us?
- 11:19Speaker 3: My dad taught me the grind of Look, whatever you're
- 11:22Speaker 3: gonna do, make sure you put your all in it.
- 11:25Speaker 3: I was first doing regular trades and then I lost
- 11:28Speaker 3: three hundred million dollars and they brought somebody down that
- 11:32Speaker 3: had a series seven. He got it back. They said,
- 11:35Speaker 3: you go into the basement. The basement we called question trades,
- 11:38Speaker 3: so it was an IQ department. And in that department
- 11:42Speaker 3: we learned every second, every minute when the trade was
- 11:45Speaker 3: coming in. So I became like a genius that oh
- 11:48Speaker 3: this how a money flow? You know what I'm saying.
- 11:51Speaker 2: And you learned this at what point did you lose
- 11:53Speaker 2: a three hundred million?
- 11:54Speaker 1: Well? How old were you?
- 11:55Speaker 3: Oh? I was fourteen fifteen?
- 11:58Speaker 1: Are you serious?
- 11:58Speaker 3: Yeah? I lost three hundred million. There was like this
- 12:01Speaker 3: good is.
- 12:01Speaker 2: The company for the company, not me, but they were
- 12:03Speaker 2: letting you trade for that.
- 12:04Speaker 3: I was trading. Yeah, yeah, I was trading. I was
- 12:06Speaker 3: trading for a company. I was supposed to do that.
- 12:10Speaker 1: But okay, okay, cool, Yeah I was.
- 12:13Speaker 3: My dad was teaching me a lot of the game
- 12:16Speaker 3: because he knew every bit of the game.
- 12:20Speaker 2: So did you actually go to the basement? Yeah, I
- 12:22Speaker 2: did at that age.
- 12:24Speaker 3: At that age, between the ages of fourteen and sixteen,
- 12:27Speaker 3: I was in the basement. So fifteen and sixteen, I
- 12:29Speaker 3: was in the basement learning QT trades, going to question trades.
- 12:32Speaker 2: So you were making your money off trading, absolutely? And
- 12:35Speaker 2: what were you originally going to school?
- 12:36Speaker 3: For? Business management? Computer science? Okay, so I had a.
- 12:40Speaker 2: Double may feel like you needed school if you're if
- 12:42Speaker 2: you were that good?
- 12:44Speaker 3: Yeah, because I because I was the first person in
- 12:46Speaker 3: my family to go to college. You know see what
- 12:48Speaker 3: I'm saying. And I love college. I wouldn't say I
- 12:53Speaker 3: wish I had, but I think college was great for me.
- 12:56Speaker 3: I did choir, Like I said, I was a square people.
- 13:00Speaker 3: I just I love God, I love people, I love
- 13:02Speaker 3: the choir, I love playing the drums, and I just
- 13:05Speaker 3: wanted everybody to understand who God was, who Jesus.
- 13:08Speaker 1: Was, and when did you become not a square?
- 13:11Speaker 3: Then when I got in Guy. When I got in Guy,
- 13:18Speaker 3: and I'll never forget, I signed a contract and the
- 13:23Speaker 3: contract was like nine pages. I took it to my
- 13:26Speaker 3: attorney and the attorney said, I hope you didn't sign this.
- 13:29Speaker 3: I said, well, I did. I did sign it. He said,
- 13:32Speaker 3: you shouldn't have signed this. You signed I was seventeen
- 13:37Speaker 3: when I yeah, I was seventeen going on eighteen when
- 13:40Speaker 3: I signed the contract with Guy.
- 13:42Speaker 1: Did you all sign the same contract?
- 13:44Speaker 3: Absolutely? They already I signed. They signed first. So when
- 13:48Speaker 3: I came from Virginia State, I already was you know,
- 13:53Speaker 3: there was like yo, sign here. They went right to
- 13:55Speaker 3: the signas your page was like sign it. My buss
- 13:57Speaker 3: said meen, you go to stun me. If you don't
- 13:58Speaker 3: stun I'm not gonna be famous. I'm like, what, like,
- 14:01Speaker 3: we gotta get this check. You know what I'm saying.
- 14:04Speaker 3: I didn't. I just signed it. And once I signed it,
- 14:06Speaker 3: I took it to my attorney the next day and
- 14:09Speaker 3: he said, I hope you did not sign this.
- 14:11Speaker 1: What was in the contract that was so bad?
- 14:14Speaker 3: Everything you don't own nothing publishing every we if they
- 14:18Speaker 3: wanted to give us crayons, they could have gave us crayons.
- 14:22Speaker 3: They could have said, you seen you stung your ass off,
- 14:25Speaker 3: here's some crayons. Go home. Like what you know what
- 14:28Speaker 3: I'm saying. They really had us like lockstocked and battles
- 14:33Speaker 3: because the manager was also part of the group. So
- 14:35Speaker 3: you had Timmy who started the group with him and Aaron,
- 14:40Speaker 3: and then Timmy found saw Teddy. He knew Teddy already
- 14:43Speaker 3: from kids at work and all that. He knew Teddy.
- 14:46Speaker 3: And then Aaron said, don't want you to group without him.
- 14:49Speaker 3: Now before the group came out, because people always ask me,
- 14:51Speaker 3: well then you always you took timmy spot. Timmy was
- 14:55Speaker 3: out the group. By the time I came in the group,
- 14:58Speaker 3: he was gone. So reality, here's the criminal, little crim
- 15:02Speaker 3: right here, just the cri crim yesterday. Maybe I don't know,
- 15:12Speaker 3: no worry, It's still part of me. Don't get it twisted.
- 15:14Speaker 3: So you know most people with the eggs, they let
- 15:19Speaker 3: the eggs stick. The reason why I let the punt,
- 15:21Speaker 3: the reason why I let the pan get hot. You
- 15:22Speaker 3: see that? See what I do? See that? Look at that?
- 15:26Speaker 3: You're hilarious I already put it in sandwich, mold in
- 15:29Speaker 3: the pan. Look at that. Look at that you smell it.
- 15:33Speaker 3: It looks I know it looks I know.
- 15:35Speaker 1: I know you don't have no cheese.
- 15:37Speaker 3: I don't do cheese. Listen, if I ate this for cheese,
- 15:40Speaker 3: it's a rap. Cancel Christmas, no more tame in. I'm running.
- 15:49Speaker 3: You don't mess up the whole meal right there, it's like,
- 15:51Speaker 3: so I'm not doing it. So look at it. Look
- 15:54Speaker 3: at that, look at that, look at that.
- 15:55Speaker 1: That looks good.
- 15:55Speaker 3: Yeah, you're seeing this one. You need to know. You
- 15:58Speaker 3: need to get this, got it right? Okay, okay, all right,
- 16:03Speaker 3: just making sure it looks smell lass. Yes, I tell
- 16:07Speaker 3: people this when you cook right, because you used to
- 16:09Speaker 3: like chef. You know your chef eat my boat, so
- 16:11Speaker 3: you know how to cook. You got mad recipes. So
- 16:15Speaker 3: when you do this, say no, ain't no black marks.
- 16:17Speaker 3: You know how people burn their eggs and stuff. And
- 16:19Speaker 3: then sometimes if you don't cook eggs right pop for me,
- 16:22Speaker 3: I feel sick, like it makes me feel sick. So
- 16:24Speaker 3: you got to scramble them correctly. And some people don't
- 16:26Speaker 3: like scrambled eggs. They're like they sunny side up and
- 16:29Speaker 3: all this other stuff Frida eggs. But when I do
- 16:31Speaker 3: it like this, everybody likes it. See that right there's
- 16:35Speaker 3: right right there. You go there. You're gonna cut this
- 16:37Speaker 3: down because I almost burned to shut myself. Earlier I
- 16:39Speaker 3: thought I was like, God, this is not this is
- 16:44Speaker 3: not baby oil.
- 16:45Speaker 2: Okay, earlier before we started.
- 16:49Speaker 1: You set your hands. There's parts of your body that
- 16:52Speaker 1: you can't feel. Nothing.
- 16:52Speaker 3: I don't feel. Listen. That's why you didn't see me jump.
- 16:54Speaker 3: You didn't see me go crazy. I said, hell, I
- 16:58Speaker 3: had to be cool. You know what I'm saying. I
- 16:59Speaker 3: got to still be cool. Next segment, you know what
- 17:04Speaker 3: I'm saying. No, but God is good like I. You
- 17:07Speaker 3: know this meal. When I walked in here, you don't
- 17:10Speaker 3: matter what. When I walked in here, I looked over
- 17:13Speaker 3: here at your at your board, and I'm gonna say
- 17:15Speaker 3: this like this.
- 17:18Speaker 1: You can lift it up.
- 17:19Speaker 3: I don't know I can lift it up. Okay, this
- 17:22Speaker 3: right here was my go to, like in college when
- 17:27Speaker 3: I didn't have no money. In college, they have no money.
- 17:31Speaker 3: I lived off campus, but and I lived like on
- 17:35Speaker 3: as a freshman off campus. So everybody was was like
- 17:38Speaker 3: damn date, D got an off campus spot on a freshman,
- 17:42Speaker 3: so I always was like pushing the envelope. But I
- 17:44Speaker 3: had no money, so that was a boat part when
- 17:47Speaker 3: I was in college. Yeah, I was eating this. It
- 17:51Speaker 3: was delicious. So you had chicken flavor, beef flavor. We
- 17:55Speaker 3: had I'm talking about this whole thing was none but
- 17:58Speaker 3: oodles and noodles. Right then, I said, everybody's eating all
- 18:02Speaker 3: the oodles and noodles. I need to get the turkey slim.
- 18:08Speaker 3: So I created my turkey slim. Got it, got it,
- 18:11Speaker 3: And I told the niggas straight up, you can't have
- 18:14Speaker 3: no turkey slammer because y'all eat alls and noodles. So
- 18:18Speaker 3: I wasn't sharing my turkey slam They'll say that's just
- 18:21Speaker 3: no good d. They called me al some of my
- 18:23Speaker 3: friends because my first name.
- 18:24Speaker 2: Is is it okay?
- 18:35Speaker 3: So nobody? No one knows that, No one. I just
- 18:37Speaker 3: told you, no one in the whole world, only only
- 18:40Speaker 3: my and my white closest, Like we saw you on
- 18:45Speaker 3: the concerts. You're fucking great. I was like, okay, great.
- 18:49Speaker 3: They're like, no one else calls me that, right, So
- 18:51Speaker 3: but I gave you the whole name, all right, I.
- 18:55Speaker 1: Heard it, okay, So go ahead, serve it up.
- 18:58Speaker 3: Okay.
- 18:59Speaker 2: So after you get this terrible deal, how soon do
- 19:03Speaker 2: you guys feel the repercussions of signing it.
- 19:07Speaker 3: Well, they don't feel Teddy and Aaron don't feel no
- 19:10Speaker 3: repercussions signing it at all. Why because they signed it
- 19:14Speaker 3: and they were happy. They want to put them They
- 19:17Speaker 3: were happy to sign it because they wanted but they
- 19:20Speaker 3: want to be famous. They look, they didn't give a
- 19:23Speaker 3: damn but nothing else. It was like, man, we're about
- 19:24Speaker 3: to kill it, but the album was I didn't understand
- 19:28Speaker 3: what was what beat mannis.
- 19:30Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm gonna eat it exactly how you.
- 19:32Speaker 3: Eat it, oh man, oh man? See and how I
- 19:41Speaker 3: did it. That's why you had you made sure you
- 19:43Speaker 3: handed me this because how I did it, because sometimes
- 19:46Speaker 3: we didn't have the utensils I used. I wasn't gonna
- 19:49Speaker 3: do that for you, don't use I used my finger
- 19:52Speaker 3: to spread it. Of course, you when I ate that,
- 19:55Speaker 3: you would have been like cut, he's out of here, right.
- 20:01Speaker 2: So, but so they didn't feel the impact because they
- 20:04Speaker 2: were happy about the fame. But I'm just curious, at
- 20:08Speaker 2: some point they had to have felt felt it, right, we.
- 20:12Speaker 3: All felt it at some point but Teddy. Teddy was
- 20:16Speaker 3: part of JO production, so he was part of the
- 20:20Speaker 3: the bigger picture, right, So I don't I don't think
- 20:25Speaker 3: he felt it as much as we felt it because
- 20:28Speaker 3: he was getting a lot of love, and which is cool.
- 20:30Speaker 3: He deserved it. But my brother also shouldn't have felt it.
- 20:34Speaker 3: The contract for all of us was was whack. Was
- 20:37Speaker 3: not good. But you either sue go crazy, I'm not
- 20:41Speaker 3: doing it.
- 20:42Speaker 2: Or I'm gonna say, are you at this point a
- 20:44Speaker 2: little bit nervous about burning bridges in that industry?
- 20:47Speaker 3: Nah? I can't nothing about the insury I kept on
- 20:49Speaker 3: my brother. So the industry didn't mean nothing to me.
- 20:52Speaker 3: I didn't. I didn't go out there. We didn't tap dance,
- 20:56Speaker 3: you know what I'm saying. We didn't. Hey, we got
- 20:58Speaker 3: we got an album. You liked the album? We didn't.
- 21:01Speaker 3: We didn't have that. We didn't do that. We didn't
- 21:03Speaker 3: We didn't go through any of the jumps, the ups
- 21:07Speaker 3: and downs of it. Okay, you know, sometimes you drop
- 21:10Speaker 3: some stuff, and.
- 21:11Speaker 2: So what did you do to manage the playerism of
- 21:16Speaker 2: the contract?
- 21:16Speaker 1: How did you offset it?
- 21:17Speaker 3: We just kept it going and listen, our whole life
- 21:21Speaker 3: was the good luck, like we're either gonna were either
- 21:25Speaker 3: gonna do this and become famous and be broke, or
- 21:28Speaker 3: God is gonna open up a door. I want to
- 21:30Speaker 3: use my hands so bad, but thank you'll use yours.
- 21:32Speaker 3: I'm like, I'm definitely gonna I wanna use my hands
- 21:35Speaker 3: so bad. You have no idea what I'm doing over here.
- 21:37Speaker 3: I'm like, ah, right, because when you're eating broke, you
- 21:41Speaker 3: do this, You're doing all this you take, you're taking this,
- 21:43Speaker 3: You're like at home. It's good. You ain't wasting ship,
- 21:47Speaker 3: you know what I mean. You're like, I don't know
- 21:51Speaker 3: who you had on this thing. It's all good. And
- 21:53Speaker 3: watch it. Holdo, holdo, watch your face cheers. Dang right,
- 22:01Speaker 3: watch that? Mmm hold up? Hold up watching them hold up,
- 22:08Speaker 3: hold up, hold up? Watch this. Don't we play no
- 22:15Speaker 3: games either too.
- 22:16Speaker 1: I'm not gonna front. This is amazing?
- 22:18Speaker 3: Is that? Is it amazing?
- 22:19Speaker 1: Check yourself? What's crazy?
- 22:22Speaker 2: Is?
- 22:22Speaker 1: Didn't I say I ordered wings?
- 22:24Speaker 3: Yes?
- 22:27Speaker 1: This is?
- 22:27Speaker 3: She said? She said.
- 22:28Speaker 1: I said, we're only gonna take go ahead, We're gonna
- 22:30Speaker 1: take a bite.
- 22:31Speaker 3: You're not really gonna eat all of it? Because I
- 22:33Speaker 3: ordered wings. I was like, okay, okay, my tuck e sclamming.
- 22:37Speaker 3: Huh mm mm hmm. Listen, when you're in the heavy two,
- 22:48Speaker 3: you're that go somewhere, man, lattes, you ain't got any
- 22:54Speaker 3: ain't nothing sticking on the pot. She don't even want
- 22:58Speaker 3: to do it. She's like, I ain't another day. I
- 23:01Speaker 3: want to tell y'all, eating my blok is the ship.
- 23:04Speaker 3: I'm done.
- 23:05Speaker 1: This is great.
- 23:06Speaker 2: I think the male complimented amazingly the eggs. You somehow
- 23:11Speaker 2: kept them really fluffy and perfect. Yeah out of ten man.
- 23:20Speaker 3: Two seconds one here you go. Be good.
- 23:22Speaker 2: Now you eat this any time of day, anytime of day,
- 23:25Speaker 2: anytime of day.
- 23:26Speaker 3: I don't like eating meals a day.
- 23:29Speaker 2: I think if you would have toasted the bread with
- 23:32Speaker 2: butter on the pan.
- 23:33Speaker 3: It would have I'm sorry, hold up, I'm sorry.
- 23:35Speaker 1: No, no, no, no, no, no, it's good.
- 23:37Speaker 3: I like to know.
- 23:41Speaker 2: I'm saying that when you do it like on the pan,
- 23:44Speaker 2: you do it on the pan, you get that nice.
- 23:47Speaker 3: I do that too.
- 23:48Speaker 1: But you know, I like how you was talking smack
- 23:50Speaker 1: though we talk, but were talking.
- 23:52Speaker 3: I'm not. I'm trying to give you the meal.
- 23:57Speaker 1: But you want to know something, I like the soft
- 23:58Speaker 1: bread too, though.
- 24:00Speaker 3: See I used to do what you say I usually toasted.
- 24:05Speaker 3: I do squear I toasted it just on one side
- 24:07Speaker 3: though I toasted. Keep one side soft and one side
- 24:10Speaker 3: looking lovely. You know what I'm saying. It's like when
- 24:13Speaker 3: you see a girl, I leave that long. But you
- 24:16Speaker 3: know what I'm saying, It's like.
- 24:17Speaker 1: Oh, I want to get into that too a little bit.
- 24:19Speaker 3: Oh okay, So excuse me.
- 24:23Speaker 2: What do you think you were getting out of the
- 24:27Speaker 2: industry if you weren't getting money at that time?
- 24:30Speaker 3: We got money, We got look and I stay to artist.
- 24:36Speaker 3: When you're atist. It all depends on on the respect
- 24:40Speaker 3: of the manager and how he's trying to play the game.
- 24:43Speaker 3: So if I know I got something good, I'm never
- 24:46Speaker 3: gonna keep you. I'm gonna give you enough for you
- 24:48Speaker 3: to know that you got to come back to me.
- 24:49Speaker 3: But I'm never gonna gonna screw you all the way
- 24:52Speaker 3: because you're not gonna do what I need you to do.
- 24:55Speaker 3: We had bullets in our chamber. When I say that
- 24:59Speaker 3: the the songs that guy had were phenomenal songs. He
- 25:05Speaker 3: knew that. And then when we started really understanding who
- 25:09Speaker 3: we were and getting into our get down and how
- 25:11Speaker 3: we performed, the manager was like, ah, I gotta keep
- 25:15Speaker 3: these cats together. 's go hun away. So he brought
- 25:17Speaker 3: us cars. A lot of artists go through this way,
- 25:19Speaker 3: So he brought us all three cars we had. We
- 25:21Speaker 3: first had the four runners, and we all had three
- 25:25Speaker 3: four runners. I had. I had a blue one, Aaron
- 25:27Speaker 3: had a no I had to excuse me. I had
- 25:29Speaker 3: a pro white one. Aaron had a blue one. Teddy
- 25:31Speaker 3: had a black one. He brought us car and we
- 25:34Speaker 3: put on the on the wheel. We had our faces
- 25:37Speaker 3: and guy and hinestones on the back of the wheel.
- 25:39Speaker 3: So everybody used to follow us. So that kept us
- 25:41Speaker 3: cool for a while because all in New York was
- 25:43Speaker 3: following us every time they saw us. So we drove
- 25:45Speaker 3: everywhere together, me and Teddy. We was like, think of thieves.
- 25:49Speaker 3: Then he brought us three hundred z's And now I
- 25:53Speaker 3: don't know, you know what three hundred z is. You
- 25:54Speaker 3: don't know what three hundreds is? Those Nissan three hundred
- 25:58Speaker 3: that's like that was like the Ferrari of the time, right,
- 26:00Speaker 3: We was the first three cats to have it. So
- 26:02Speaker 3: I had a pro one, An had a red one,
- 26:04Speaker 3: Teddy had a black one. And are you.
- 26:07Speaker 2: Hinting to him at the time, that these are the
- 26:08Speaker 2: cars you guys want or is he just saying let
- 26:10Speaker 2: me just no no.
- 26:11Speaker 3: He just yeah, yeah he was. He's like it was
- 26:15Speaker 3: cool to He's happy. He was like, yeah, this is great. Right.
- 26:19Speaker 3: But you know when you when you are seeing things grow,
- 26:24Speaker 3: you don't want to stop the momentum because it could
- 26:27Speaker 3: have been real bad. It could have been like you
- 26:29Speaker 3: you fucking this? Who will? And you schooling us? And
- 26:31Speaker 3: now we're on this big lawsuit when we first started
- 26:34Speaker 3: and nobody gets to to.
- 26:36Speaker 2: See us, but are you are you guys having discussions
- 26:39Speaker 2: internally like absolutely not.
- 26:41Speaker 1: Okay, Teddy and Ann was.
- 26:42Speaker 3: So excited to be and I teach this when you
- 26:47Speaker 3: say two b small bee like yo were about to
- 26:52Speaker 3: be famous. We're about to be this, We're about to
- 26:54Speaker 3: be that. And I'm looking because I'm like, dang, this
- 26:59Speaker 3: is this? This is not right because I know math,
- 27:02Speaker 3: you know what I'm saying, and five plus five is
- 27:03Speaker 3: ten h it is never thirteen? Yeah, so when you
- 27:08Speaker 3: you looking at and what the hell? We did a show.
- 27:10Speaker 3: I'll never forget this. We did a show Madison Square Guden.
- 27:13Speaker 3: Our office was like thirty second in parks around that area.
- 27:19Speaker 3: Third second in Park, so we're real close to madisone
- 27:22Speaker 3: square garden. We drove our cards to the show, so
- 27:25Speaker 3: there was really no expenses. When we're supposed to get paid,
- 27:28Speaker 3: he came up to give so here here here zero
- 27:31Speaker 3: zero Zero's like, what, we didn't get paid for the show.
- 27:35Speaker 3: Now we all these dispensed this. We are in New York.
- 27:38Speaker 3: Madischuset's garden is right there. We talked we didn't get paid,
- 27:41Speaker 3: so nobody knows this. Me and Jean. I used to
- 27:45Speaker 3: confront him in his office a lot and just told
- 27:48Speaker 3: to him, as yo, bro, this one he's mad. Damn
- 27:50Speaker 3: you don't shut up. Da da da da. Now I
- 27:51Speaker 3: have no beef for him now in any capacity. Before
- 27:54Speaker 3: he died, we had a conversation. I understood, you know,
- 27:57Speaker 3: everybody's going through what they're going through when they see
- 28:01Speaker 3: the lights and the cameras and the action. Everybody want
- 28:05Speaker 3: to be I'm gonna be the best thing, and i'm'a
- 28:06Speaker 3: steal and I'm about me a test to Wolster, and
- 28:08Speaker 3: I'm about this and by that, and I'm gonna get
- 28:09Speaker 3: these niggas just enough for them to have to stick
- 28:14Speaker 3: to it. And when you don't as a group when
- 28:18Speaker 3: you're not sitting there talking to each other going yo,
- 28:23Speaker 3: we are all one. You're not above me, I'm not
- 28:25Speaker 3: above you. We all want we gotta look at this
- 28:28Speaker 3: thing and we are going in this fight together. It
- 28:31Speaker 3: was never that why because the public, the media started
- 28:36Speaker 3: praising Teddy, putting Teddy up there. Teddy was part of
- 28:39Speaker 3: the g O production, so he was the R in
- 28:41Speaker 3: gr production, so it was Griffin Riley produccia. I'm not
- 28:44Speaker 3: saying anything or anything about anything about him negative or
- 28:49Speaker 3: or or in any capacity, but when you see Teddy
- 28:53Speaker 3: Valley featuring and this featuring you, you feel that it
- 28:56Speaker 3: ain't touching you. And where my brother's far as I'm going.
- 29:00Speaker 3: Because he was the voice of guy. He should have
- 29:02Speaker 3: been being praised that big too. People loved his voice,
- 29:06Speaker 3: but he wasn't the one in articles ahl the versu
- 29:08Speaker 3: of the data. This is that you know what I'm saying,
- 29:10Speaker 3: And for me, I really wasn't. I was just behind
- 29:13Speaker 3: the scenes watching and confronting and going, man, we getting
- 29:17Speaker 3: scowl bro, like this is crazy and then shut up, man,
- 29:20Speaker 3: you're gonna're gonna mess it up for us.
- 29:21Speaker 1: So I just even after they saw a check that
- 29:23Speaker 1: came in with zero.
- 29:24Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 29:24Speaker 2: Now the cars, I'm guessing you recooped all the cars.
- 29:27Speaker 2: You had to recoop them. They weren't in the fine print.
- 29:30Speaker 2: They were being so right.
- 29:31Speaker 3: Everything was smoking mirror to an extent, right, And then
- 29:34Speaker 3: it became I want to keep that car, so you
- 29:37Speaker 3: pay for that. You know what I'm saying. I want
- 29:38Speaker 3: to keep that truck because now everybody know about the
- 29:40Speaker 3: truck boom. I never forget when we got back together
- 29:43Speaker 3: again in two thousand, we all got Denali's and for
- 29:50Speaker 3: those that really knew, cause Denali was the shit back then, right,
- 29:53Speaker 3: so ninety Denalis was everything. It's like, yo, we all
- 29:56Speaker 3: got Dnalis, My Denali. I hooked it up because every
- 29:59Speaker 3: time I get a car, I like to hook it up.
- 30:00Speaker 3: So I put the wheels on the end, so go
- 30:02Speaker 3: up and down, hydraulics system, everything. Just to find out
- 30:07Speaker 3: the cars wasn't paid for. So I'm in La, I'm
- 30:10Speaker 3: chilling in LA. I'm jumping cool. I'm thinking, we this
- 30:12Speaker 3: is this is a car. This is funny as hell.
- 30:15Speaker 3: I never told the story. I was in my apartment
- 30:18Speaker 3: and I came downstairs. I was like, yo, we gotta go.
- 30:20Speaker 3: I went downstairs and I go into the parking lot
- 30:24Speaker 3: where my car is supposed to be, and I go, wait,
- 30:29Speaker 3: maybe maybe I'm wrong. I literally walked back upstairs and
- 30:33Speaker 3: started all over again. This time my brain thing. I
- 30:35Speaker 3: sit down in my house, I go, there's nowhere. I
- 30:37Speaker 3: went to my parking space and my car wasn't in, right.
- 30:41Speaker 3: I go back down to my part's space and say,
- 30:43Speaker 3: oh shit, my car is gone. My guy said, you
- 30:47Speaker 3: saw the guy that was sitting up on the on
- 30:50Speaker 3: the joint watching, so it was it was the repol guy.
- 30:54Speaker 3: I didn't I didn't repay attention to it. I saw
- 30:56Speaker 3: the black cat sit up there. So when I went upstairs,
- 30:58Speaker 3: he went and took the car. Boom. So I called, like,
- 31:00Speaker 3: you ever stop with the car? Da da da da
- 31:02Speaker 3: Oh the car wasn't paid for? Boom boom boom. I
- 31:05Speaker 3: was so caught up in the aggravation that you are
- 31:10Speaker 3: crazy enough to give us a car when we are
- 31:12Speaker 3: who we are, and you didn't eve pay for damn car, right,
- 31:17Speaker 3: And so from that point on I knew that things
- 31:21Speaker 3: was gonna be like this because it really wasn't. It
- 31:23Speaker 3: wasn't truthful, you know what I'm saying. And my thing
- 31:26Speaker 3: is when you when you have somebody that you want
- 31:30Speaker 3: to build with, you don't build with agenda. You know
- 31:35Speaker 3: what I'm saying, with a hitting agenda, I don't do agendas.
- 31:37Speaker 3: I'm like super duper transparent about how I feel about you,
- 31:42Speaker 3: what I want from you, and what I'm gonna do
- 31:44Speaker 3: as well. This way you can make your decision right
- 31:46Speaker 3: there on the spot, because I don't change when I
- 31:49Speaker 3: say something. I'm not negotiating. It is what it is,
- 31:52Speaker 3: just how it is. And I done thought what you're
- 31:54Speaker 3: gonna say too, and don't thought about it. It's like
- 31:56Speaker 3: cooking this meal. I don't cook meals. And then I say,
- 32:01Speaker 3: you know, because it's easy to go this shit is whack.
- 32:03Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying. When I do anything, I
- 32:06Speaker 3: know what I'm doing is going to be what it
- 32:08Speaker 3: is whatever that means.
- 32:10Speaker 1: Right.
- 32:11Speaker 3: So it's the same thing with Mner Teddy. When I
- 32:14Speaker 3: left college to go into guy, I said, my brother,
- 32:18Speaker 3: I know he asked me to do something. He wasn't
- 32:20Speaker 3: on point, So I never, I never, you know, thought
- 32:24Speaker 3: that I would be in a position to where so
- 32:27Speaker 3: it just became a silent thing.
- 32:30Speaker 2: So how did you handle your money? Seeing everything that
- 32:33Speaker 2: was going on. Did you get more restrictive, more planning.
- 32:36Speaker 2: You obviously had experience in investing. How are you handling
- 32:40Speaker 2: your money? Was it a little different from what the
- 32:43Speaker 2: guys were doing?
- 32:44Speaker 3: To an extent, I helped everybody. I gave to everybody,
- 32:49Speaker 3: you know what I'm saying, Like I would go on
- 32:52Speaker 3: the corners and pay people drug dealers not to not
- 32:57Speaker 3: to sell to people in the neighborhood. Nobody knows. Nobody
- 33:00Speaker 3: knew what I was doing in that neighborhood, right, but
- 33:02Speaker 3: I did a lot for the neighborhood. And for me.
- 33:06Speaker 3: Money is money, right, you make it, you lose it.
- 33:11Speaker 2: And when you deal with people that have an agenda
- 33:15Speaker 2: prior to knowing you, and you learn that lesson, are
- 33:17Speaker 2: you able to do you view people the same? Are
- 33:20Speaker 2: you always looking to see if there's an agenda attached?
- 33:23Speaker 3: No, I don't. I don't look at that because I'm
- 33:25Speaker 3: like a pro at discernment. No. I asked God long
- 33:30Speaker 3: time ago when I first got saved and asked God
- 33:33Speaker 3: to touch my life at twelve, I prayed for discernment
- 33:37Speaker 3: and wisdom, you know, And throughout my ups and downs
- 33:41Speaker 3: of growing up and being a man, I am today.
- 33:45Speaker 3: I always say I'm a king cat. I don't that man.
- 33:47Speaker 3: Men kind of go up and down. King people know
- 33:51Speaker 3: exactly what they want, what is going to be. I don't.
- 33:57Speaker 3: I don't trip on the confusion and stuff. I know
- 34:02Speaker 3: exactly who you are when I'm talking to you, and
- 34:04Speaker 3: when God tell me you need to stick by her
- 34:06Speaker 3: or by him because they gonna need you. I just
- 34:09Speaker 3: know how to play it. Like all my friends know,
- 34:11Speaker 3: Damon is very keen at people. So everything's always a
- 34:16Speaker 3: test with me. Everything, okay everything. I'm never around anybody
- 34:20Speaker 3: while I'm not testing them. You just don't know you're
- 34:22Speaker 3: being tested.
- 34:24Speaker 1: Good to know, good to know?
- 34:26Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying.
- 34:26Speaker 2: What advice would you give to anybody in this game
- 34:31Speaker 2: from the legendary standpoint or from just getting in the game.
- 34:37Speaker 3: First and most important is to know your business. Don't
- 34:41Speaker 3: rush for the glamor for the lights, you know, don't
- 34:45Speaker 3: rush for the materialistic things. Materialistic things come and go.
- 34:50Speaker 3: You can get a Bugatti and you can have a Hyundi.
- 34:53Speaker 3: If I put a knife to your tire and your Bugatti,
- 34:58Speaker 3: that's thirty five thousand dollars. I put a knife your
- 35:00Speaker 3: tire in Honda. That's two on youred fifty dollars. You
- 35:03Speaker 3: know what I'm saying, You're still not getting there. I'm
- 35:06Speaker 3: not getting it either til I change that tire. The
- 35:08Speaker 3: chance of me getting it before you you got the
- 35:10Speaker 3: Bugatti is I'm gonna get there before you because you're
- 35:12Speaker 3: gonna black thirty five thousand dollars. Most people that flex
- 35:16Speaker 3: don't really have the money to flex. And here's the thing.
- 35:20Speaker 3: When you a lot of cats, and I tell this
- 35:24Speaker 3: all the time, when you get the black card or
- 35:26Speaker 3: you try to get the relationship, you can give me
- 35:28Speaker 3: black heart, get the black art, and then you get
- 35:31Speaker 3: the condo and you fix it up and you get
- 35:33Speaker 3: the card, you think it's going to because most men
- 35:36Speaker 3: do everything for the proof of a woman, you know
- 35:39Speaker 3: what I'm saying. And there is no other reason to
- 35:44Speaker 3: do and buy and get so much stuff. When you
- 35:48Speaker 3: got to settle and you got to really put your
- 35:50Speaker 3: life together. You know what I'm saying, It's very important
- 35:53Speaker 3: to invest. I teach every dollar I got to make
- 35:56Speaker 3: nine dollars. When you make a dollar, okay, don't get
- 35:59Speaker 3: a dollar and just spend that dollar, because a dollar
- 36:02Speaker 3: and a dollar when you first get it a dollar
- 36:04Speaker 3: depending on the average of out of money is your
- 36:07Speaker 3: dollar could be sixty cent today seventy five cent. You
- 36:09Speaker 3: go to the store, you say this is a discount.
- 36:11Speaker 3: The discount is the same way said this was. I
- 36:14Speaker 3: don't know, this was four dollars, but you're gonna get
- 36:16Speaker 3: it for two dollars and fifty cent dollars because they
- 36:18Speaker 3: made it for seventy five cent. So everything is is
- 36:20Speaker 3: a fooling thing for the mind. Right. They want you
- 36:23Speaker 3: to think you're getting you're getting the stuff, but yet
- 36:25Speaker 3: you're still living in poverty. Yeah, the average the average
- 36:27Speaker 3: person living now got to make in Atlanta one hundred
- 36:30Speaker 3: and fifty thousand dollars.
- 36:31Speaker 1: Just be medium income in Atlanta.
- 36:33Speaker 3: In Atlanta, So if you do, you do the whole
- 36:36Speaker 3: the whole region. Most people are poor. They'll never say
- 36:40Speaker 3: it because everybody want to flex and act like they
- 36:43Speaker 3: something that they're not, you know what I'm saying. So
- 36:45Speaker 3: for me, I look at things with my crew, we
- 36:49Speaker 3: look at things in the real light, you know what
- 36:51Speaker 3: I'm saying. I'm twenty four to seven working to make
- 36:54Speaker 3: sure that people don't have to suffer. And before I
- 36:59Speaker 3: used to make sure you don't suffer, and then I'm
- 37:01Speaker 3: turned around and I'm like, I'm suffering because I didn't
- 37:05Speaker 3: want you being down. I can take it now. I'm
- 37:10Speaker 3: in a point now going on fifty eight where I
- 37:13Speaker 3: say to myself, I have to be selfish. People look
- 37:17Speaker 3: at selfish as a bad thing. It's not. I think
- 37:19Speaker 3: women need to be more selfish about themselves, and I
- 37:21Speaker 3: think men need to be selfish about knowing how it
- 37:24Speaker 3: is to really be a man, right, Like, let me
- 37:28Speaker 3: handle my home and make sure I'm straight for real
- 37:32Speaker 3: before I go out there lollygag and playing with these
- 37:35Speaker 3: women and doing what kind of goofy shit. Right at
- 37:38Speaker 3: the end of the day, It's like, you really have
- 37:40Speaker 3: to focus on what it is I want out of
- 37:44Speaker 3: my life. Everybody has to ask that question, what do
- 37:47Speaker 3: I want? Happiness sometimes could be getting up in the morning,
- 37:49Speaker 3: taking a walk, getting your coffee, and taking a walk
- 37:52Speaker 3: up up the mountain. And then happiness can be seeing
- 37:55Speaker 3: your kids just play around and you're like, man, God
- 37:58Speaker 3: bless my kids, and it's gonna be a roof over
- 38:01Speaker 3: your head. And knowing that when I look in the cupboard,
- 38:03Speaker 3: I have food, I have shelter, I have clothing, so
- 38:06Speaker 3: we good if you if that becomes a fantasy, then
- 38:12Speaker 3: all that looks the part and then you turn around's
- 38:14Speaker 3: like seeing a movie. You turn around, it's really not there,
- 38:17Speaker 3: cause the next day you work in your ass off
- 38:19Speaker 3: so you can get it again. You work your ass off,
- 38:21Speaker 3: get it again right. It's like it's like from table
- 38:25Speaker 3: to the I don't like living like that is is
- 38:27Speaker 3: not living.
- 38:28Speaker 1: No, you know you're entrapped.
- 38:30Speaker 3: You're trapped.
- 38:31Speaker 2: So before we close out, can you tell me about
- 38:33Speaker 2: Perfect Designer the new album.
- 38:35Speaker 3: Perfect Designer listen. I had cancer in twenty twenty three
- 38:41Speaker 3: cancer twenty twenty three stage two pastaate cancer. I also
- 38:48Speaker 3: had three hundred percent blood clots through my whole body.
- 38:51Speaker 3: I had seventy five percent of my left lung, five
- 38:52Speaker 3: percent my right lung, one hundred percent of in my
- 38:55Speaker 3: right leg, ninety five percent in my left except underneath
- 38:58Speaker 3: my knee. God told me when I did the surgery.
- 39:04Speaker 3: I did the new Addition Legacy tour May second. We
- 39:07Speaker 3: came off May ninth. I had the operation tostal pro operations.
- 39:11Speaker 3: Maybe a week after that, I was sleep and I
- 39:14Speaker 3: had a catheter. For those men that know what that is.
- 39:17Speaker 3: I had a cather inside of me, and God said
- 39:21Speaker 3: get up now and do your album and do your
- 39:23Speaker 3: what your album?
- 39:24Speaker 1: Okay?
- 39:25Speaker 3: And I was like and pay attention. Yanked me again
- 39:27Speaker 3: and almost fell out the bed. He said, get up today.
- 39:31Speaker 3: It's out your album today now. For years I was
- 39:33Speaker 3: telling people I'm gonna do an album. What's up, Hall
- 39:35Speaker 3: of Fame Entertainment. I'm coming at you. I'm about to
- 39:37Speaker 3: do album. We're gonna do good. You know what I'm saying.
- 39:38Speaker 3: Guy all day? Whoo wo whoop. Never did it years
- 39:41Speaker 3: years year year. Everybody said he's playing games. But when
- 39:44Speaker 3: the cancer sometimes got to get your attention a different way.
- 39:50Speaker 3: I went and called my guy, said yo, I need
- 39:52Speaker 3: to come to your house. And I mean you got
- 39:53Speaker 3: the money, said nigga. The God told him, do my album?
- 39:55Speaker 3: Said all right, man, coming, I paid them. We did
- 39:57Speaker 3: three songs of one day. When I say we, he wrote,
- 40:00Speaker 3: he co wrote two songs, and then me and my
- 40:05Speaker 3: nephew we did the whole album together. Right. So I
- 40:08Speaker 3: always say God wrote and produced his album because I
- 40:11Speaker 3: did something no artists have done to this day. In
- 40:16Speaker 3: forty days, I did fifty two songs, number one, number two,
- 40:20Speaker 3: no samples, no one does the album with no samples
- 40:23Speaker 3: because everybody's afraid that if you don't get that yep
- 40:26Speaker 3: that sound, ain't nobody gonna listen to your shit. When
- 40:30Speaker 3: I did this record, I didn't go, Okay, what songs
- 40:34Speaker 3: I'm gonna do? God said, here's your set list? Bang
- 40:36Speaker 3: bang bang bang bang. I put it in order. People
- 40:39Speaker 3: started flying down to Atlanta because I did the album
- 40:41Speaker 3: out here, flying down to Atlanta. Want to hear y'all
- 40:44Speaker 3: heard you. You got a record. What's the name of
- 40:46Speaker 3: the record? Perfect Designer? Why perfect Designer? I said, because
- 40:50Speaker 3: when God does something, he makes no mistakes. So this
- 40:52Speaker 3: is a perfect R and B album.
- 40:54Speaker 1: Oh, I like that, right, perfect designer.
- 40:57Speaker 3: So and then I said, the women, for the last
- 41:00Speaker 3: fifteen twenty years, I've been treated wrongly. Everything's pussy this bit, that, this,
- 41:06Speaker 3: that and the other on these songs. So I'm like,
- 41:08Speaker 3: when you're R and B cat, you ain't talking that
- 41:11Speaker 3: on the albums for me, not the R and B
- 41:13Speaker 3: cats want to do it cool. When they heard this record,
- 41:18Speaker 3: everyone said the same thing. And I'm talking about a
- 41:21Speaker 3: lot of people. Came. A lot of people have not
- 41:23Speaker 3: heard my album. Regular people haven't heard it. People that
- 41:25Speaker 3: are in the business heard it. They said, deed, we're
- 41:27Speaker 3: going to tell you the truth. This is one of
- 41:30Speaker 3: top six albums period in R and B. You're about
- 41:35Speaker 3: to hurt these cats well. And I was very taken
- 41:39Speaker 3: from that because I knew that the album was in
- 41:46Speaker 3: its form perfect. I knew in myself and I'm not
- 41:52Speaker 3: I don't really look at musical. I know I've got
- 41:54Speaker 3: this in this. But when you hear the album and
- 41:57Speaker 3: when y'all hear it, when it drops, he was dropping
- 42:00Speaker 3: next month singles and then singles dropping July, and the
- 42:03Speaker 3: alb I'm gonna drop August, August, September, when your ladies
- 42:07Speaker 3: hit his album. It's real R and B at his best.
- 42:11Speaker 3: And I'm if I can be a mustard seed of
- 42:14Speaker 3: a person to plant the seed again and to let
- 42:16Speaker 3: all these cats that do on R and B wake
- 42:19Speaker 3: up and not be afraid to be creative and do
- 42:22Speaker 3: their thing, do what really God gifted within them. I
- 42:26Speaker 3: hope I can do that. Like for me, this album
- 42:29Speaker 3: is great. It is me, And like I say, I
- 42:31Speaker 3: don't do anything from cooking this this sandwich, I can't
- 42:34Speaker 3: wait to finish eating Like I don't do anything because
- 42:38Speaker 3: I come from a pedigree of Aaron and Teddy of Guy,
- 42:42Speaker 3: where people look at Guy like Guy. The Guy first
- 42:44Speaker 3: album was everything y y'all knew jacket and we did
- 42:48Speaker 3: image style everything. We changed it. So I don't sugarcoat
- 42:53Speaker 3: that when I say, yo, Guy's the best groop or
- 42:55Speaker 3: get mam. When I say that, I said, you can
- 42:56Speaker 3: call your group the best group if you choose to.
- 42:58Speaker 3: I don't think nobody could touch Guy. When we are
- 43:01Speaker 3: together as a unit, we're unstoppable. So I look at
- 43:05Speaker 3: music that same way, and I know I have to
- 43:08Speaker 3: bring it because if I don't, I'm gonna get ridicu.
- 43:11Speaker 3: And I don't know what that feels like.
- 43:14Speaker 1: Okay. And then just last and I know we're probably overtime. Okay,
- 43:19Speaker 1: we are, Okay.
- 43:21Speaker 2: Can you tell me a story that no one knows
- 43:24Speaker 2: about one of your hot records that like, just between
- 43:27Speaker 2: you guys, that no one knows behind one of your hot,
- 43:30Speaker 2: your greatest records, Like tell me the record and then
- 43:34Speaker 2: a little backstory behind it, then no one knows.
- 43:38Speaker 3: Yeah, oh no, whoa, whoa, that's the one we want
- 43:43Speaker 3: to hear.
- 43:45Speaker 2: That.
- 43:45Speaker 3: That's the de Hall story. That's my album. That's that's
- 43:48Speaker 3: the first album story. You want to know a guy
- 43:50Speaker 3: story we did when we sounds good too, But yeah,
- 43:54Speaker 3: no that Minds is much better. But it's and I'll
- 43:56Speaker 3: leave names out. But when we were doing New Jack
- 44:00Speaker 3: Swing for New York, I mean for New York, and
- 44:02Speaker 3: I mean, what's the new Jack Swing for New Jack Swing,
- 44:04Speaker 3: we were doing the New Jack City for New Jack Swing.
- 44:06Speaker 3: The song we got together and we were in the
- 44:12Speaker 3: booth and we used to always have females in the studio,
- 44:20Speaker 3: you know what I'm saying, So you know, doing the
- 44:26Speaker 3: making of that song, we had just a lot of fun,
- 44:29Speaker 3: you know what I'm saying. I gotta leave it like
- 44:30Speaker 3: that because I don't like talking Aaron Teddy business for me,
- 44:33Speaker 3: So I kind of leave that there. And I don't
- 44:36Speaker 3: the guys what we that was real?
- 44:39Speaker 2: Can I go in too, Yes, let's go to okay
- 44:41Speaker 2: because I feel yeah, I feel like it.
- 44:43Speaker 3: I feel more safe. I ain't putting nobody out there,
- 44:45Speaker 3: you feel me? So, oh man, I'm gonna state initials
- 44:54Speaker 3: of this artist. So I'm doing I'm doing three songs
- 44:57Speaker 3: with this particular amazing singer BM. Do I say to
- 45:05Speaker 3: even thinking he's a major singer, BM right. So he's
- 45:09Speaker 3: put he's producing a record. So I always said, because
- 45:12Speaker 3: he was, he's a Gemini, I'm a Gemini. He's super cocky. Right,
- 45:17Speaker 3: He's like, man, I'm doing I'm doing what I'm doing,
- 45:19Speaker 3: and you gotta listen to what I'm doing. I'm like,
- 45:21Speaker 3: I ain't niggas, but slower vaute. We was like, knock
- 45:24Speaker 3: your heads right, I'm like, yo, chill, chill the funk
- 45:26Speaker 3: out with that. You know we're good. I picked three songs,
- 45:28Speaker 3: phenomenal records from him, and he bought this girl. I said,
- 45:31Speaker 3: no girls in my session because I told you before
- 45:36Speaker 3: I had a I was a sex at it. So
- 45:38Speaker 3: I can see a chick and I'm instantaneously throwing darts
- 45:41Speaker 3: at her. He bought this amazing girl in the studio.
- 45:46Speaker 3: I won't say her name start with his z right,
- 45:50Speaker 3: her name start with yeah. So he brings to the studio.
- 45:53Speaker 3: I'm like, ohh, I'm looking at her like, damn, I
- 45:57Speaker 3: gotta get her. No been as a buss, I gotta
- 46:01Speaker 3: get her. So he's like playing and doing his things.
- 46:05Speaker 3: She's just dead, she's behind it. She's just damn. I'm like,
- 46:08Speaker 3: good Jesus, she looked good. He just I'm like this
- 46:14Speaker 3: nigga's getting on my nerve, like he was getting on
- 46:16Speaker 3: my nerves so bad that it I'm like, I'm gonna
- 46:19Speaker 3: take this bitch. No, that's real. I was thinking right,
- 46:25Speaker 3: So on the fly, I'm like, Bauma said, what's the
- 46:29Speaker 3: pleasure meeting you like this? When when I go like
- 46:31Speaker 3: this with it, I put my number in the hand, right,
- 46:33Speaker 3: So I go, it's pleasure to meeting you. And she
- 46:34Speaker 3: grabs it. Because I remember I was throwing dark started
- 46:36Speaker 3: in the first she grabs it. Bank make sure he
- 46:38Speaker 3: don't see it. She she holding that shit tight like this.
- 46:42Speaker 3: She makes sure ain't no white coming out of your sheet.
- 46:44Speaker 3: She's like this, you know, like she's like this like
- 46:47Speaker 3: d I'm like, I had a session, my own session,
- 46:50Speaker 3: like two days later, and I was doing a song
- 46:53Speaker 3: called Holding On And this song was on the zebra
- 46:56Speaker 3: Head soundtrack first as an up tempo. I took the
- 46:59Speaker 3: same song and I reproduced it and made it a ballot.
- 47:03Speaker 3: I invited her to the session. She comes to the
- 47:07Speaker 3: session wearing what she wearing. I'm like, okay, cool, right.
- 47:13Speaker 3: I tell everybody you always gotta have a witness when
- 47:15Speaker 3: you doing something. So I had two witnesses. I always
- 47:17Speaker 3: do everything with a witness, okay, cause people make up stories.
- 47:20Speaker 3: You didn't do that, Oh yes, I did. So I
- 47:23Speaker 3: go into the studio, I try. I go inside, I say,
- 47:25Speaker 3: turn the lights off. So if you hear the s
- 47:28Speaker 3: the song, it starts cue I'm hugged and on. But
- 47:36Speaker 3: you hear that on the record, I'm killing this girl,
- 47:39Speaker 3: and I side to think. So I got a mic
- 47:41Speaker 3: here and I'm like this, and I gotta turn around
- 47:44Speaker 3: like this, so the mic is out of her mouth
- 47:46Speaker 3: and I'm like this behind her, and I got back here.
- 47:48Speaker 3: I thought out bo bo Right, that was only because
- 47:53Speaker 3: I knew that when I did that, he he was
- 47:56Speaker 3: never going back to this nigga. So get this. The
- 48:00Speaker 3: next maybe week we have a session together. I said, man, yow,
- 48:07Speaker 3: how's your girl? What's the name? What? He goes, Oh, man,
- 48:11Speaker 3: I don't care about that bitch. Man, He goes, I
- 48:13Speaker 3: don't care about that bitch. I go, why, man, she
- 48:16Speaker 3: ain't nothing. I'm going yeah, cause she's been me every
- 48:18Speaker 3: day in my head, my niggas shold been me every day.
- 48:23Speaker 3: So I took two of his chicks because he was
- 48:26Speaker 3: just yeah, yeah, yeah, he had a girl named Stephanie
- 48:29Speaker 3: was she was German. Oh my god, right, listen, No,
- 48:34Speaker 3: the nigga got taste and listen, the nigga got tastes. Okay,
- 48:39Speaker 3: and we got the same taste. So he did me
- 48:42Speaker 3: a favor and brought her to another session, and I said, nigga,
- 48:46Speaker 3: I told you don't bring no girls here, but thank
- 48:49Speaker 3: you again. He had no idea. I was just chopping
- 48:53Speaker 3: him because she became one of my little get downs.
- 48:56Speaker 3: You feel me, and that's all it was back then
- 48:58Speaker 3: for me and I really she would end up being
- 49:00Speaker 3: a sweet person, but I didn't really care. I really
- 49:03Speaker 3: it was. It was like, Okay, I'm gonna get her.
- 49:06Speaker 3: I'm gonna get her, and if you sit there playing games,
- 49:08Speaker 3: I'm you know, niggas. Like I said, I didn't really
- 49:11Speaker 3: care about cats, so I just wanted. But that's my
- 49:14Speaker 3: story was that that was.
- 49:19Speaker 1: Thank y'all for tuning in. Peace Out.
