- 0:00Speaker 1: Only dead enders and lunatics are still defending Gavin Newsom
- 0:03Speaker 1: and Karen Bass.
- 0:04Speaker 2: It's one more thing.
- 0:06Speaker 1: I'm one more thing.
- 0:09Speaker 2: I got a question before we get to that. Yeah,
- 0:13Speaker 2: what percentage of the people on the Price is Right?
- 0:15Speaker 2: Or let's make a deal are mentally ill? M qualified
- 0:21Speaker 2: as mentally ill? Because this woman's with a mentally ill
- 0:25Speaker 2: I'm watching this woman. She just got picked out of
- 0:27Speaker 2: the crowd by Drew Carey to be on The Price
- 0:30Speaker 2: is Right. She is so freaking excited. I mean she's
- 0:33Speaker 2: just crying with I just feel like you gotta be
- 0:37Speaker 2: in Milton. I think just a simpleton and.
- 0:40Speaker 3: She just sound like you hate joy. She's like.
- 0:43Speaker 2: She's like in her mid fifties. I mean, you've been
- 0:45Speaker 2: around a little bit, you know, you've seen some ups
- 0:47Speaker 2: and downs, You've raised some kids.
- 0:49Speaker 4: She's probably been watching the show for years and it'd
- 0:52Speaker 4: be great to be on there.
- 0:53Speaker 3: Now she's just living.
- 0:54Speaker 2: Her dream and now she's got to ejaculate that joy.
- 0:58Speaker 1: That is clearly the case, Katy.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Now she's got a chance to win this Hyundai size
- 1:04Speaker 2: of a couch car. Okay, good luck with that, hope
- 1:06Speaker 2: you win.
- 1:07Speaker 1: It's a gas zipper. You know what's It's all coming
- 1:10Speaker 1: clear to me now, Katie. He's admitted proudly he thrives
- 1:14Speaker 1: on shodenfreud joy from other people's pain. Clearly he gets
- 1:18Speaker 1: pain from other people's joke. Whatever the opposite of Shotenfreud is. Yes,
- 1:22Speaker 1: exactly goes both ways. Freuden shod.
- 1:26Speaker 2: You know what it is. You know what I think
- 1:28Speaker 2: shod and you know what it actually is. Probably I
- 1:32Speaker 2: wish stuff like that made me happy. A lot of
- 1:35Speaker 2: the things that make other people happy, I wish it
- 1:36Speaker 2: made me happy, but it doesn't. It just doesn't. And
- 1:39Speaker 2: I'm kind of envious, so people that can get that
- 1:41Speaker 2: excited about things that just don't do it for me.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Yeah, we were talking earlier, Katie, off the air. I'm
- 1:49Speaker 1: not sure if you around and heard it. And it
- 1:54Speaker 1: has to do with some emails we got on certain
- 1:56Speaker 1: topics and some it would be a distraction, honestly to
- 1:59Speaker 1: go into a topic was but there are I'm trying
- 2:04Speaker 1: to figure out if people are just being stubborn and
- 2:07Speaker 1: being dicks, or they're rigid or whatever, or if there
- 2:11Speaker 1: are people who actually can't emotionally deal with if say
- 2:19Speaker 1: I don't know an issue or a politician if you
- 2:22Speaker 1: agree with them eighty five percent and there's just fifteen
- 2:26Speaker 1: percent that yeah, I can't quite go that far, or
- 2:30Speaker 1: I got to point out this problem or whatever. They
- 2:33Speaker 1: are enraged by that, or they can't even process it.
- 2:37Speaker 1: They like can't even live with the idea of you know,
- 2:40Speaker 1: it's mostly good, there's a little bad. And I just
- 2:43Speaker 1: I find myself wondering if there are people who because
- 2:47Speaker 1: they it's been said many times, the most terrifying place
- 2:50Speaker 1: you could ever go is into somebody else's mind for
- 2:53Speaker 1: five minutes. I just wonder if there are people that
- 2:57Speaker 1: it doesn't look like it does to me when they
- 3:01Speaker 1: have to deal with ambivalence of any sort, because, judging
- 3:06Speaker 1: by the emails, unless they're just angry trolls, they literally
- 3:10Speaker 1: cannot admit nothing is perfectly pure.
- 3:17Speaker 2: Your own husband, wife, or kids aren't. Yeah, I'm not
- 3:21Speaker 2: who doesn't have something they wouldn't. I don't know the
- 3:26Speaker 2: right way to say, but you don't particularly like about
- 3:27Speaker 2: your husband, your wife, or your kids. You don't like
- 3:29Speaker 2: this personality trait they have. I mean, it'd be impossible
- 3:31Speaker 2: that you like every personality trait of your people you're
- 3:35Speaker 2: close to. That's impossible.
- 3:36Speaker 3: Yeah, if anybody says that, then they're lying.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Oh exactly.
- 3:39Speaker 2: You just realize it's part of the package, and on
- 3:41Speaker 2: the whole you like them, and you know, you deal
- 3:43Speaker 2: with it, and then you know they deal with yours.
- 3:46Speaker 1: And I don't know if it's like a symptom of
- 3:50Speaker 1: dumbness in some cases that they just can't noodle through.
- 3:56Speaker 1: There are flaws to this, but it's okay. They just
- 4:01Speaker 1: get angry at the idea that there's any you know,
- 4:05Speaker 1: any fudging at all of this has to be one
- 4:09Speaker 1: hundred percent good. This is one hundred percent bad, and
- 4:13Speaker 1: anything with any more subtlety than that freaks them out.
- 4:17Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a very black and white attitude.
- 4:19Speaker 2: Yeah, that is a mental thing. That is a state.
- 4:24Speaker 2: Like my son who has a variety of things. He
- 4:26Speaker 2: takes a lot of pills for. He has a very
- 4:27Speaker 2: black and white with a lot of stuff, and there's
- 4:30Speaker 2: just no budget him off of it.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Yeah, And I'm not coming out of I'm not coming
- 4:36Speaker 1: at this And I wish i'd like gotten my thoughts
- 4:39Speaker 1: in order, because this would make more sense if I had.
- 4:41Speaker 1: But I'm not trying to come at this like in
- 4:43Speaker 1: a snarky way or to mock people. I'm trying to
- 4:46Speaker 1: understand them, and I've got to admit, it's like they're
- 4:50Speaker 1: telling me, no, there are three moons in the sky,
- 4:54Speaker 1: and that's so foreign to the way I think. I'm thinking.
- 4:58Speaker 1: All Right, I got to figure out why they think
- 4:59Speaker 1: there's three moons in the sky.
- 5:01Speaker 4: Yeah, and there's It's definitely more so more common on
- 5:06Speaker 4: the left side of politics too. I mean, just in
- 5:09Speaker 4: the last week, the amount of people where I have
- 5:11Speaker 4: seen the anti Trump post on Facebook and one person
- 5:15Speaker 4: mentions like an executive order that isn't all that terrible,
- 5:19Speaker 4: and they get pissed. It's not a conversation anymore. It's
- 5:22Speaker 4: an attack.
- 5:24Speaker 1: Yeah. Manichaeanism, the reduction of the world into only good
- 5:29Speaker 1: and evil and everything must be one or the other.
- 5:34Speaker 3: Huh huh.
- 5:35Speaker 2: It seems like that's something to want to a tendency
- 5:39Speaker 2: you'd want to avoid.
- 5:40Speaker 1: Yeah, well, and you have to avoid it in a
- 5:42Speaker 1: political system like ours. Our entire political system is based
- 5:46Speaker 1: on differing ideas, factions, whatever. They come together in Congress.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Mostly they come together and say here's who I am,
- 5:53Speaker 1: and here's what I believe. Oh, here's who we are,
- 5:56Speaker 1: here's what we believe. But we got around the country.
- 5:59Speaker 1: Let's figure out how we can compromise. That is our
- 6:02Speaker 1: system and our system can't stand you know, that sort
- 6:07Speaker 1: of dualism.
- 6:07Speaker 2: I was talking so some people who do that around
- 6:09Speaker 2: politics and issues and stuff like that, did they do
- 6:11Speaker 2: that in their personal lives that I was just talking
- 6:13Speaker 2: about a little bit ago? Can they accept that? You know?
- 6:16Speaker 2: I like my uh, I like ninety nine percent of
- 6:20Speaker 2: my wife, but she puts our dog in coats and
- 6:21Speaker 2: I don't like that.
- 6:23Speaker 3: So we're thrilled, I don't think.
- 6:25Speaker 1: So I moved all of her shit onto the lawn
- 6:27Speaker 1: and we're divorced. Now. Yeah, I don't know.
- 6:30Speaker 4: I had a friend like this, or really emphasis on
- 6:33Speaker 4: had and it was her way or the highway every time, always, always,
- 6:39Speaker 4: and for some reason I put up with it for
- 6:41Speaker 4: more than twenty years and finally audios biac.
- 6:45Speaker 1: Yeah, So, but is it? Is it a personality trait?
- 6:49Speaker 1: Is it like a kink because of the way you
- 6:53Speaker 1: were raised, you were abused? Whatever is it? Inborn?
- 6:59Speaker 2: Well, I know how you feel about the whole nature
- 7:01Speaker 2: and nurture thing, having raised three kids with two kids, man,
- 7:04Speaker 2: I'm so far down the road of nature for almost
- 7:07Speaker 2: everything I used to think before I had kids, it
- 7:10Speaker 2: was you know, the way you were raised or your
- 7:12Speaker 2: parents or whatever.
- 7:13Speaker 1: But man, every kid's a blank slate. It was just
- 7:15Speaker 1: an expression of how their parents raised them.
- 7:17Speaker 2: And when you have kids that have these very strong
- 7:19Speaker 2: tendencies that you know they didn't get from your household,
- 7:22Speaker 2: it's like, what the hell?
- 7:24Speaker 3: Yeah, her parents were great. Both of her siblings aren't
- 7:26Speaker 3: like this.
- 7:26Speaker 2: She's just nuts.
- 7:29Speaker 5: Was who did what was the final straw?
- 7:31Speaker 1: If you don't mind me asking.
- 7:32Speaker 2: You question, Michael good interview question.
- 7:33Speaker 1: Good gossipy question. Yeah, I love it?
- 7:36Speaker 3: Uh she?
- 7:38Speaker 2: Oh boy? Uh?
- 7:40Speaker 4: I when I had I had three strokes back in
- 7:42Speaker 4: twenty twenty, and after that happened, she became really judgmental
- 7:47Speaker 4: of me, and uh, it just ended it. It ended
- 7:50Speaker 4: up blowing up pretty much. I told her that fuck off.
- 7:53Speaker 4: Did she did she feel like you had done something
- 7:56Speaker 4: to earn the strokes?
- 7:58Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 7:59Speaker 4: Yeah she did and tried depending on me, and then
- 8:02Speaker 4: when I wouldn't listen to her, she tried to go
- 8:03Speaker 4: to my parents to make them get on her.
- 8:06Speaker 3: It was really bizarre.
- 8:07Speaker 1: That was a ballsy move for a woman while you
- 8:09Speaker 1: were trying your best to deal with it. Yeah.
- 8:11Speaker 2: Yeah, Well even if even if she were right, it's
- 8:14Speaker 2: just I don't know what the upside would be of
- 8:16Speaker 2: a point.
- 8:18Speaker 4: No, I wasn't taking great care of myself and she
- 8:19Speaker 4: tried to blow it up into something it wasn't. And
- 8:22Speaker 4: I am very glad that I am no longer dealing
- 8:25Speaker 4: with that garbage.
- 8:27Speaker 2: Good question, Mike, Michael's smiling, good sound the smile on
- 8:35Speaker 2: your face. Michael, that would be a great call in topic.
- 8:39Speaker 2: We don't do that anymore on the radio show. But
- 8:41Speaker 2: what broke up your friendship? Oh, that'd be a good'd
- 8:46Speaker 2: be a good topic.
- 8:47Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:47Speaker 1: Oh, I've got a great story. I can't tell it,
- 8:50Speaker 1: but I don't think I have. Damn shame.
- 8:53Speaker 2: She'll get him.
- 8:54Speaker 1: I've only like really actively ended one friendship.
- 8:59Speaker 2: I don't you know what I got. I got a story.
- 9:01Speaker 2: I don't know if i'd be willing to tell it
- 9:02Speaker 2: on the air.
- 9:03Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm sure you're okay doing it.
- 9:07Speaker 1: Yeah, But anyway to get back to the theme, and
- 9:09Speaker 1: then we can either do what we were going to
- 9:10Speaker 1: do or not here out of time, well, we can
- 9:13Speaker 1: do it tomorrow is speaking of kids, I'm going to
- 9:16Speaker 1: bring it all together. That's what I do I raised
- 9:20Speaker 1: three children who, in terms of well they are, they
- 9:23Speaker 1: unquestionably have traits that remind me of Judy and myself.
- 9:27Speaker 1: Of course, it's as if they were selected randomly from
- 9:30Speaker 1: all the children in the United States in terms of
- 9:34Speaker 1: their strengths and not so strength these strengths and and
- 9:39Speaker 1: and their personalities and stuff like that. And and my daughter,
- 9:44Speaker 1: who is autistic fairly mildly, but unquestionably, her crap detector
- 9:52Speaker 1: does not work. Her vulnerability to scams has been a
- 10:00Speaker 1: big problem that we've been working on for a long time,
- 10:02Speaker 1: and she's getting way better at it, thankfully. But I'm
- 10:06Speaker 1: the opposite, you know, the old saying, don't bullshit a bullshitter.
- 10:11Speaker 1: The minute I hear even like three percent bullshit from somebody,
- 10:14Speaker 1: I'm like, yep, I'm watching and listening carefully, go on,
- 10:18Speaker 1: what were you saying? I mean, it's just but I
- 10:21Speaker 1: didn't earn that. I just I was born with it,
- 10:24Speaker 1: and I to a large extent, although being in show business,
- 10:28Speaker 1: as Don Geronimo, the Great Radio Guy would say, the
- 10:31Speaker 1: lowest rung of show business, but being in show business
- 10:34Speaker 1: for a career tends to make you a little more
- 10:36Speaker 1: skeptical and cynical, but anyway, I just wonder whether some
- 10:39Speaker 1: people are born without the ability to understand ambivalence, meaning
- 10:47Speaker 1: this is true, and this is also true, and I
- 10:50Speaker 1: kind of wish it wasn't, but I can accept it.
- 10:52Speaker 1: I just wonder. I don't know.
- 10:55Speaker 2: I got one kid who's got very black and white,
- 10:58Speaker 2: strong political views on a controversial topic. I'm not going
- 11:01Speaker 2: to mention. I mean, just like, very strong and outspoken
- 11:05Speaker 2: about it, and it's caused him problems. He's lost friendships
- 11:08Speaker 2: at a very young age over this. I'm like, dude,
- 11:10Speaker 2: why do you think this? I don't think it, your
- 11:12Speaker 2: mom doesn't think it. We've never said anything, and I
- 11:15Speaker 2: have no idea where he came to this, but he
- 11:17Speaker 2: just does.
- 11:21Speaker 3: Type stuff.
- 11:21Speaker 2: Maybe No, I really don't know, And trust me, I've
- 11:25Speaker 2: spent a fair amount of time thinking about it.
- 11:27Speaker 1: Is it the designated hitter? Oh?
- 11:29Speaker 2: Yeah, that very strong. He thinks it's an abomination.
- 11:35Speaker 1: Well, keep sending your angry, enraged emails that seem to
- 11:39Speaker 1: be ignoring major points. But if it's a good vent
- 11:43Speaker 1: for you, a good outlet, that's fine.
- 11:45Speaker 2: I have a very smart friend, quite possibly the smartest
- 11:49Speaker 2: person I've ever known, who would rather die than express
- 11:55Speaker 2: anything Trump ever did as being even slightly positive. And
- 12:00Speaker 2: I don't get it at all. I just don't get it.
- 12:02Speaker 2: I know you can say Trump shouldn't be present. I't
- 12:04Speaker 2: think you'd hear the reasons. But this was a good idea.
- 12:06Speaker 2: Why does that bother you.
- 12:08Speaker 3: When you say they're one of the smartest people you know?
- 12:10Speaker 3: Are they like book smart?
- 12:11Speaker 2: Yeah? Very very okay?
- 12:13Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, categories are smart.
- 12:16Speaker 2: Yep.
- 12:17Speaker 1: True takes all kinds. I guess I don't know.
- 12:22Speaker 5: I ended a friendship. Guy wouldn't quit bringing up stupid
- 12:25Speaker 5: things I did in the past. And I was like
- 12:27Speaker 5: thirty five, and this was stuff in high school. And
- 12:28Speaker 5: I finally said, you know what, I don't I don't
- 12:30Speaker 5: want to hear this anymore and just left the Chili's restaurant.
- 12:34Speaker 1: That was it, really, Yeah, left my steaks right there.
- 12:37Speaker 2: So you said something, though, Yeah I did?
- 12:39Speaker 5: I said, yeah, I said, you know what, I'm sorry.
- 12:41Speaker 5: I'm thirty five years old, and you know I don't
- 12:43Speaker 5: think about this stuff anymore.
- 12:44Speaker 2: So wow, good for you for one thing?
- 12:46Speaker 3: Did you leave him with your bill?
- 12:48Speaker 5: I put some money down and just walked out of there.
- 12:50Speaker 5: I said, here, here's twenty bucks.
- 12:52Speaker 2: I've got two examples i'd like to talk about, but
- 12:55Speaker 2: in both cases I ghosted them like a coward. Silence
- 13:00Speaker 2: is definitely, but also I just I'm not sure it
- 13:03Speaker 2: was worth they weren't it was worth getting into You've
- 13:06Speaker 2: you've fixed them, You've entered into the arena of you're
- 13:09Speaker 2: not worth my time anymore. So whatever.
- 13:13Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I love that Travis Kelcey thing. Do the
- 13:17Speaker 1: people in your life give you energy or do they
- 13:20Speaker 1: sap you of it?
- 13:21Speaker 2: I wonder where he is on Taylor at this point.
- 13:25Speaker 2: She's still giving him.
- 13:25Speaker 4: Energy, probably sucking the life out of him.
- 13:33Speaker 2: Well, I guess that's it.
