- 0:00Speaker 1: His job.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Make it all makes sense.
- 0:04Speaker 1: He's Mark Simone. Hey, let's talk to the Dean himself,
- 0:11Speaker 1: Ed Rollins. Of course, he's run a million campaigns, He's
- 0:14Speaker 1: worked in a lot of white houses. Nobody knows this
- 0:17Speaker 1: stuff better, Ed Rollins, How you doing good?
- 0:20Speaker 2: Mark? The weather being terrible all of us on the
- 0:23Speaker 2: East coast here.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Yeah, it's it's a mess. Hey, Tomorrow night's State of
- 0:28Speaker 1: the Union speech. What does the President need to accomplish
- 0:31Speaker 1: in that speech?
- 0:32Speaker 2: It's a very big speech. There's a lot of things
- 0:35Speaker 2: on his plate. He needs to explain to the American public.
- 0:39Speaker 2: I was going to bring the government back in the functioning,
- 0:42Speaker 2: especially with the weather and what have you in Fiena
- 0:44Speaker 2: and the and the Ameline security stuff being out. Secondly,
- 0:48Speaker 2: he's got to explain to the American public and he's
- 0:50Speaker 2: going to do anything in Iran. This is a chance
- 0:52Speaker 2: for him to do that, set the tone and say
- 0:56Speaker 2: I want peace and why I want piece If that's
- 0:59Speaker 2: the case. The third thing that he needs to any
- 1:01Speaker 2: deal on is he's clearly convincing people that this terriff
- 1:05Speaker 2: plan was correct, and he's got to obviously out of
- 1:10Speaker 2: the court is his rule that he can't use this
- 1:13Speaker 2: particular provision. Why he wants to continue to move that
- 1:16Speaker 2: ball forward. To a certain extent, it's a terrible time
- 1:21Speaker 2: for Congress, which is another element here, because the new
- 1:26Speaker 2: provisions that he has, he can put some of the
- 1:28Speaker 2: provisions some of the terrorists back in, but in five
- 1:32Speaker 2: months the Congress has to improve it. Five months is
- 1:34Speaker 2: right at the heart of a campaign, and he basically
- 1:38Speaker 2: Democrats are going to say this is a tax raising taxes.
- 1:41Speaker 2: He's got to make the case that's what he wants,
- 1:44Speaker 2: just the opposite. So he's got a big speech. He
- 1:46Speaker 2: can't can't stand up there to attack the court because
- 1:49Speaker 2: he doesn't like the court, doesn't like the decision. He's
- 1:51Speaker 2: got to deal with this court, and they don't care.
- 1:54Speaker 2: Most of the people in the country don't know who
- 1:56Speaker 2: is on the court, let alone who the names are.
- 1:59Speaker 2: So I think a certain extent, he can't get in
- 2:01Speaker 2: a fight with the court. There's too many previsions that
- 2:04Speaker 2: he needs at this point in time to fight with him. Yeah,
- 2:08Speaker 2: so by alternatives.
- 2:11Speaker 1: When it comes to defying the court, it's done all
- 2:13Speaker 1: the time. The last time was Biden. The student loan
- 2:16Speaker 1: stuff was ruled illegal and Biden said, I'll defy them.
- 2:19Speaker 1: I'll do it anyway. So it's it's not unprecedented, is it.
- 2:22Speaker 2: No, it's not unprecedent. What happened to Biden.
- 2:26Speaker 1: It's on the beach, all right. And then when it
- 2:30Speaker 1: comes to Iran, you're talking about the most evil regime
- 2:33Speaker 1: in the world, slaughtering people, funding terrorism, trying to get
- 2:39Speaker 1: rid of Israel. I mean, do we really need to
- 2:41Speaker 1: explain why we want regime change?
- 2:44Speaker 2: Well, I don't think we have to explain it. If
- 2:46Speaker 2: we're going to do it, we need to basically get
- 2:48Speaker 2: the creation of the Congress to do it. You know,
- 2:50Speaker 2: he's got a third of the Navy sitting off the
- 2:53Speaker 2: coast there, and you know, I think the American public
- 2:56Speaker 2: doesn't want to have another war in the Middle East
- 2:59Speaker 2: on the last couple of been miserable failures. And I
- 3:02Speaker 2: think the reality is, you know, there's lots of lots
- 3:05Speaker 2: of things he can do at this point in time.
- 3:06Speaker 2: He can't raise expectations. He raised expectations a couple weeks
- 3:09Speaker 2: ago telling the people when they writing people who just
- 3:12Speaker 2: stay on the streets there shortly can't do that again.
- 3:16Speaker 2: Whatever your plan is, you've got to basically implement it,
- 3:18Speaker 2: explain in the American public way, get to get Congress
- 3:21Speaker 2: and the dialogue tries to do it alone and it
- 3:24Speaker 2: becomes a disaster, disasters, American kids getting killed. What I'm
- 3:31Speaker 2: on the moves about is important. The cost of war
- 3:35Speaker 2: in the Middle East is enormous. Uh, you know all
- 3:38Speaker 2: oil that comes out of that area. Uh. You know,
- 3:41Speaker 2: it's not gonna be a quick thing like Venezuela as
- 3:43Speaker 2: it's you know, there's no there's no quick wars anymore.
- 3:46Speaker 2: And you can bull up nuclear actors and you can
- 3:50Speaker 2: go down and take some guy out at the top
- 3:52Speaker 2: in Venezuela. But this is this is an administration that
- 3:57Speaker 2: thinks that God has put them there and that they
- 3:58Speaker 2: are the gods. Uh. And then we have to explain
- 4:01Speaker 2: why why do we want to change it?
- 4:03Speaker 1: Yeah? Uh, hey, what do the Democrats need to do tomorrow?
- 4:07Speaker 1: The state of the Union. Usually they do something to
- 4:09Speaker 1: embarrass themselves. They look rude and obnoxious. How should they
- 4:13Speaker 1: behave tomorrow?
- 4:14Speaker 2: They're both the rudeoxious. I mean, the problem is the
- 4:17Speaker 2: us A show. They're they're feeling very empowered at this
- 4:21Speaker 2: point in time, whether they should be or not. They're
- 4:23Speaker 2: not their numbers aren't much better than the presidents, but
- 4:25Speaker 2: I think to a certain extent, they feel they have
- 4:27Speaker 2: some momentum. They don't many policies that are appealing to
- 4:31Speaker 2: the country, but at the same time, they're the alternative,
- 4:34Speaker 2: and I think being being the alternative the better place
- 4:38Speaker 2: right now than trying to basically deal with her serious agenda. So, uh,
- 4:42Speaker 2: you know, they're performed, they'll they'll do something, but you
- 4:46Speaker 2: know it's it's the president's show and people are going
- 4:49Speaker 2: to tune in to watch what he says, what he does.
- 4:52Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, there's no law that you have to
- 4:55Speaker 1: do it in front of Congress. And some people are
- 4:57Speaker 1: saying if they if the Democrats get rude and just
- 5:00Speaker 1: up to this time, next time, don't do the State
- 5:02Speaker 1: of the Union in Congress, do it somewhere, do it
- 5:04Speaker 1: in front of my rushmore, do do it in some
- 5:06Speaker 1: other setting.
- 5:07Speaker 2: President to make a speech, President to make a speech
- 5:09Speaker 2: anytime he wants to. Yeah, and there's no as you
- 5:12Speaker 2: say this, there's there's nothing requires the president to do
- 5:15Speaker 2: a state of the State of the Union. It's a tradition,
- 5:18Speaker 2: is not a and I think to a certain extent,
- 5:21Speaker 2: you want to use it to basically make your case,
- 5:23Speaker 2: make your argument. He just has to be very careful
- 5:26Speaker 2: and and not he has to be a sales He
- 5:29Speaker 2: has to basically show that he's not a nasty man,
- 5:33Speaker 2: that this is not this is not petty. Those are
- 5:37Speaker 2: not going to move for pets. You're not going to
- 5:40Speaker 2: move for President's party. Uh. He wants someone who's strong
- 5:44Speaker 2: project strength, uh. And that he's in charge. He knows
- 5:48Speaker 2: what's happening with the country and he has tough case
- 5:51Speaker 2: to make it. He's going to convince voters that that
- 5:53Speaker 2: the economy is going to get better and that and
- 5:56Speaker 2: the fields that they passed well in time. But at
- 6:00Speaker 2: the same time, public doesn't wait that yet, so you
- 6:03Speaker 2: can't can't take them for granted. You got to be
- 6:05Speaker 2: super salesman, which he traditionally has been an effective salesman.
- 6:10Speaker 2: But that's what he's going to do. If he doesn't
- 6:11Speaker 2: do that, he gets petty. If they get petty to him,
- 6:15Speaker 2: they'll get petty back to them. And if everybody hates
- 6:18Speaker 2: the Congress and everybody hates the president, the President's party loses.
- 6:22Speaker 2: He's charge, his parties in charge, and they expect them.
- 6:25Speaker 1: They let me ask you them. I know the president
- 6:27Speaker 1: pretty well. I can see it in his face sometimes
- 6:29Speaker 1: where he came from a very glamorous life, but he
- 6:32Speaker 1: likes being president. But I can see it now. I
- 6:34Speaker 1: can see him getting a little bored and restless at times.
- 6:36Speaker 1: Did you ever have that problem like with Reagan where
- 6:39Speaker 1: he felt a little confined in the White House that
- 6:41Speaker 1: got a little bored.
- 6:42Speaker 2: Well, the second second terms are hard, and and you
- 6:46Speaker 2: know we had set our second term was right after
- 6:48Speaker 2: the first terms in four years in between. And I
- 6:51Speaker 2: think to a certain extent, the president has been dominating
- 6:53Speaker 2: this economy and this program for a long period of time.
- 6:58Speaker 2: He now has more power, actual power than any president
- 7:01Speaker 2: since Lennon Johnson and Kitty Roosevelt Republican and Franklin Roosevelt Democrat.
- 7:08Speaker 2: So he's taken a lot of power. He has to
- 7:10Speaker 2: do some things for that power, and I think to
- 7:12Speaker 2: a certain extent he's got to sell it post of all,
- 7:14Speaker 2: you've got to sell it. Yeah, and there's always the
- 7:17Speaker 2: traditional change in the midterms, and there's no reason, you know,
- 7:20Speaker 2: there's not a lot of seats that have any competitive
- 7:22Speaker 2: going to be twenty five maybe thirty seats are the
- 7:24Speaker 2: most that it could be competitive, and you've got to win,
- 7:27Speaker 2: win a majority of the pot. Yeah, all right, well
- 7:30Speaker 2: not too late, just just just he just needs to
- 7:32Speaker 2: be in his persuasive best.
- 7:33Speaker 1: All right, good stuff, Ed Rollins, great is always. Thanks
- 7:36Speaker 1: for being with us. My pleasure that all right, take care. Well,
- 7:42Speaker 1: we've got a lot to get to coming up. We'll
- 7:43Speaker 1: get we'll get you all the latest on the storm.
- 7:46Speaker 1: It's winding down. It'll all be over by five thirty
- 7:49Speaker 1: or six. If you're thinking of flying somewhere, forget it.
- 7:52Speaker 1: Every airport is closed, all the flights are canceled. It's
- 7:55Speaker 1: an absolute mess if you want to get around New York,
- 7:57Speaker 1: believe it or not working, and not every single line,
- 8:02Speaker 1: but they're working a lot of delays. And I know
- 8:05Speaker 1: the mayor has declared an emergency. The roads are closed.
- 8:10Speaker 1: But if you look out the window, every so often
- 8:12Speaker 1: you see a cab go by, you see an uber
- 8:14Speaker 1: go by so and there are cars out there, not
- 8:18Speaker 1: a lot. Hey, don't forget Buck Sexton, Clay Travis. They
- 8:21Speaker 1: got an excellent show coming up at noon today. Buck
- 8:24Speaker 1: has a new book coming out. We'll talk about it
- 8:27Speaker 1: on the show later in the week. And then three
- 8:29Speaker 1: o'clock Today, you got the most listened to radio show
