• 0:17
Speaker 1: nine of the Morning Show with Preston Scott. Remember we
• 0:20
Speaker 1: give you that number so that if at any point
• 0:24
Speaker 1: you are disappointed in my performance as the host of
• 0:28
Speaker 1: this show, you can go to the customer service desk
• 0:30
Speaker 1: and just give them show five two four nine and
• 0:34
Speaker 1: you'll get a refund. All right, So that's why we
• 0:38
Speaker 1: let you know what program we are on. Jose's over
• 0:42
Speaker 1: there in Studio one A. I'm here in Studio one B,
• 0:45
Speaker 1: and welcome to those of you that are displaced by
• 0:47
Speaker 1: the storm. You've evacuated up here, and we're just hoping
• 0:51
Speaker 1: him praying for the very best. Storm is definitely going
• 0:55
Speaker 1: to come to Central Florida. The level of intensity, surge
• 0:59
Speaker 1: and so forth, we're not sure of yet. We know
• 1:01
Speaker 1: what the prognostications are, but it's a big deal, and
• 1:05
Speaker 1: just know we'll do our best to keep you informed
• 1:07
Speaker 1: as you are away from home. We are joined by
• 1:10
Speaker 1: our good friend. And what kind of friend is he.
• 1:13
Speaker 1: He's a friend that interrupts his vacation to join us
• 1:17
Speaker 1: here on the program because this is our last visit
• 1:20
Speaker 1: before the election. Justin Haskins of the Heartland Institute. Good morning,
• 1:24
Speaker 1: my friend. How are you.
• 1:26
Speaker 2: I'm doing very very well. I'm doing very well, and
• 1:30
Speaker 2: it wouldn't be a vacation if it didn't involve talking
• 1:33
Speaker 2: to you question. So only a vacation when I take time.
• 1:38
Speaker 1: I bet you say that to all the radio show hosts.
• 1:42
Speaker 2: Oh, I don't know about that.
• 1:48
  Speaker 1: Tell me this. When I say we're I mean we're
• 1:52
Speaker 1: worth more less than thirty days out from the election.
• 1:55
Speaker 1: That's horrifying to me, And in a way it's not
• 1:59
Speaker 1: I mean, what are you What are your feelings and
• 2:02
Speaker 1: emotions right now that we're so close?
• 2:05
Speaker 2: Oh well, my feelings and emotions are terrible. I mean,
• 2:08
  Speaker 2: I feel I feel incredibly scared. I think this. I
• 2:15
Speaker 2: think this election is a fork in the road for
• 2:17
Speaker 2: this country, and we're going to decide which road we're
• 2:21
Speaker 2: going to go down here pretty soon, don't I don't
• 2:24
Speaker 2: know what America looks like after four more years or
• 2:28
Speaker 2: eight more years, or twelve more years or whatever of
• 2:33
Speaker 2: this kind of agenda. But it isn't good. It is
• 2:37
Speaker 2: not good, and we've seen only a small taste of it.
• 2:40
Speaker 2: This is just the tip of the iceberg. What's occurred
• 2:42
Speaker 2: over the last four years. I mean, we could be
• 2:45
Speaker 2: looking at an election that decides whether or not there's
• 2:47
Speaker 2: a World War three. I mean, we legitimately could be
• 2:50
Speaker 2: looking at that right now, and so the stakes could
• 2:53
Speaker 2: not possibly be higher. So emotionally, I'm not in good shape. However, however,
• 2:59
Speaker 2: into sellectually, if I just take my emotions out of
• 3:03
Speaker 2: it and I just look at the data and I
• 3:05
Speaker 2: just look at the polling, and I just take an
• 3:08
Speaker 2: analytical approach, I feel pretty good about our chances. And
• 3:12
Speaker 2: the reason for that is this. The last election was
• 3:17
Speaker 2: decided by fewer than fifty thousand voters in three key
• 3:23
Speaker 2: swing states combined. So in the three states that decided
• 3:28
Speaker 2: the election, there were a bunch of battleground states, but
• 3:30
Speaker 2: only three were really essential for Trump to win, and
• 3:33
Speaker 2: he would have won. It was less than fifty thousand
• 3:36
Speaker 2: voters combined that decided it. So you have to ask yourself,
• 3:40
Speaker 2: has the situation for Trump gotten at least fifty thousand
• 3:44
Speaker 2: voters better in those swing states? And I just have
• 3:48
Speaker 2: to believe the answer is yes, based on everything we've seen.
• 3:52
Speaker 2: But this is the weirdest election in history. We've got
• 3:55
Speaker 2: assassination attempts, We've got candidates who've never been received a
• 4:00
Speaker 2: single vote in an official primary being on the top
• 4:05
Speaker 2: of the ticket. We've got a sitting president who's such
• 4:09
Speaker 2: a disaster that they literally threw them out of the
• 4:13
Speaker 2: race at the last second. So this is a weird election,
• 4:16
Speaker 2: impossible to predict. But I think intellectually, if you just
• 4:20
Speaker 2: look at the polling numbers, look at how Trump's been
• 4:22
Speaker 2: doing better with polling that he did in twenty sixteen
• 4:25
Speaker 2: and in twenty twenty, it feels like he's got a
• 4:28
Speaker 2: good chance of winning, especially how close it was last time.
• 4:30
Speaker 1: Before we go to break what are those three states?
• 4:34
Speaker 2: It was Georgia, Arizona, and Wisconsin. Those are the three states.
• 4:39
Speaker 2: Less than fifty thousand people decided combined in those three
• 4:43
Speaker 2: states in the last election.
• 4:44
Speaker 3: We started counting shows at the beginning because we weren't
• 4:48
Speaker 3: sure how long he'd last. Now we're just proving to
• 4:51
Speaker 3: everyone that week in count This is the Morning Show
• 4:57
  Speaker 3: with Preston Scott.
• 5:03
Speaker 1: Back with me Justin Haskins from the Heartland Institute, and
• 5:07
Speaker 1: we're talking about the consequential nature of this election. They're
• 5:11
Speaker 1: all consequential. This one, I agree with. Justin has more
• 5:15
Speaker 1: on the line from a lot of different perspectives justin
• 5:18
Speaker 1: I saw yesterday. Maybe I should put it this way.
• 5:21
Speaker 1: We discussed yesterday the fact that Pennsylvania seemingly has swung
• 5:26
Speaker 1: dramatically read since twenty twenty. Are you seeing the same thing?
• 5:32
Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, it definitely looks like on the ground,
• 5:37
Speaker 2: there has been a lot of positive action in many
• 5:42
Speaker 2: of the swing states in the Midwest and upper Midwest,
• 5:45
Speaker 2: and Pennsylvania, you know, which isn't really in the Midwest,
• 5:49
Speaker 2: but included in that. And I think that there are
• 5:55
Speaker 2: really good policy reasons for this. Kamala Harris and Joe
• 5:59
Speaker 2: Biden there Paul especially, their economic policies have been absolutely
• 6:03
Speaker 2: disastrous for working people, for middle working class people, upper
• 6:08
Speaker 2: middle class people. Really only the wealthy and large corporations
• 6:13
Speaker 2: have done well under Biden Harris. Uh, and inflation is
• 6:17
Speaker 2: a huge part of that. And there's really nothing that
• 6:21
Speaker 2: Kamala Harris has presented that would suggest that any of
• 6:25
Speaker 2: those problems are going to get better under her administration.
• 6:28
Speaker 2: Her plan is effectively to print more money, spend more money,
• 6:33
Speaker 2: get into more debt, cause and and buy and the
• 6:36
Speaker 2: effect of that is cause more inflation, which is going
• 6:40
Speaker 2: to hurt working people. But don't worry there's going to
• 6:43
Speaker 2: be some new government program that will provide you with
• 6:47
Speaker 2: some you know, peanuts to help you deal with the inflation.
• 6:51
Speaker 2: Of course that program is causing more inflation, and on
• 6:55
Speaker 2: and on the cycle goes forever. You will forever be
• 6:57
Speaker 2: dependent on government just in order to survive. That's the
• 7:01
Speaker 2: whole policy platform right now in terms of economics of
• 7:06
Speaker 2: the Democratic Party. And it's a disaster, and I think
• 7:09
Speaker 2: a lot of people are waking up to that.
• 7:11
Speaker 1: Wouldn't it be useful for Donald Trump to start zeroing
• 7:14
Speaker 1: in on the debt and pointing out that the left
• 7:17
Speaker 1: has no plan to deal with it? Or is he
• 7:19
Speaker 1: trapped by the fact that there are a lot of
• 7:21
Speaker 1: people on his side of the aisle that don't want
• 7:23
Speaker 1: to deal with it either.
• 7:25
Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I think that you know, Donald Trump
• 7:29
Speaker 2: spent a massive amount of money while he was president,
• 7:33
Speaker 2: more money than anybody else up to that point in
• 7:36
Speaker 2: time per year in office, and the and Biden has
• 7:43
Speaker 2: effectively is going to end up surpassing him. And it's
• 7:49
  Speaker 2: pretty remarkable.
• 7:50
  Speaker 3: Now.
• 7:50
Speaker 2: You got to, by the way, there's an asterisk to that.
• 7:52
Speaker 2: You got to take into account how COVID money was
• 7:55
Speaker 2: spent and things like that in order to come up
• 7:57
Speaker 2: with that comparison. But Donald Trump and Joe Biden, and
• 8:02
Speaker 2: really the entire Republican establishment and the entire Democratic establishment
• 8:08
Speaker 2: has decided that debt does not matter. And I think
• 8:11
Speaker 2: the big problem for Donald Trump is he has not
• 8:15
Speaker 2: figured out a where the Republicans in general, is that
• 8:17
Speaker 2: they have not figured out why it really matters. And
• 8:21
Speaker 2: I don't know why they don't know that, especially in
• 8:23
Speaker 2: the Republican side, and they haven't figured out a way
• 8:25
Speaker 2: to convey that to regular people in a convincing manner.
• 8:29
Speaker 2: But the fact of the matter is this government debt
• 8:32
Speaker 2: is the driver of a lot of the inflation that
• 8:35
Speaker 2: we've seen. It's not a coincidence that when the government
• 8:38
Speaker 2: spent trillions and trillions and trillions of dollars they didn't
• 8:42
Speaker 2: have during the COVID pandemic, we very soon after that
• 8:45
Speaker 2: had a massive inflation crisis. It's because of the government spending.
• 8:51
Speaker 2: And if Trump could make that case and say, look,
• 8:55
Speaker 2: we have to get things back in order, because that's
• 8:57
Speaker 2: how we end up bringing prices down and restoring economic
• 9:00
Speaker 2: sanity and making sure that America has a solid dollar
• 9:05
Speaker 2: and the best economy in the world, and this affects
• 9:08
Speaker 2: all sorts of other economic issues, trade issues, all kinds
• 9:12
Speaker 2: of things, and there's just no attempt by Republicans to
• 9:16
Speaker 2: make that case. The other thing that the Republicans should do,
• 9:18
Speaker 2: at least with the Republican voters, is say, look, government
• 9:22
Speaker 2: spending is equal to power. The more money you spend
• 9:26
Speaker 2: means if the government spending more money, it means they're
• 9:28
Speaker 2: increasing their power and influence. Do Republicans want that? Most
• 9:32
Speaker 2: voters do not. So if we reduce government spending, we're
• 9:36
Speaker 2: reducing government power. Today, there are really persuasive arguments to
• 9:40
Speaker 2: be made here. They're just not trying because I don't
• 9:43
Speaker 2: think the establishment around Trump in his last term in office,
• 9:49
Speaker 2: I don't think they care about this issue, just like
• 9:51
Speaker 2: everyone else in Washington, DC doesn't care about this issue,
• 9:54
Speaker 2: even though it could be the thing that ends up
• 9:57
Speaker 2: destroying the United States. Just given a long enough.
• 9:59
Speaker 1: Time final segment, it almost hurts my heart to say
• 10:07
Speaker 1: it before the election final segment with Justin Haskins. And
• 10:11
Speaker 1: so that's really prompting my question for you, Justin. For
• 10:15
Speaker 1: our listeners, and we have people that listen that are
• 10:18
Speaker 1: new to the show, they don't necessarily agree with the
• 10:21
Speaker 1: type of philosophy that you and I personally hold, or
• 10:24
Speaker 1: even professionally hold. But how would you break down this
• 10:27
Speaker 1: election in terms of the most consequential issues people should
• 10:31
Speaker 1: be considering as they vote.
• 10:33
Speaker 2: Right, Well, I think that the most important issue, Well,
• 10:40
Speaker 2: you could argue the most important issue is that the
• 10:42
Speaker 2: world really is on the brink of a massive war.
• 10:47
Speaker 2: What's going on in Europe could get much worse. And
• 10:52
Speaker 2: if you actually pay attention to what Vladimir Putin has
• 10:54
Speaker 2: been saying for the past few couple of years, he's
• 10:58
Speaker 2: been warning that it could get a lot worse and
• 11:00
Speaker 2: that there could be nuclear weapons involved soon. And maybe
• 11:02
Speaker 2: he's just bluffing, but maybe he's not. And the way
• 11:05
Speaker 2: that the Biden Harris administration had been handling that has
• 11:09
Speaker 2: been absolutely disastrous. And you see war breaking out all
• 11:13
Speaker 2: over the world. In the Middle East, we've had huge
• 11:16
Speaker 2: conflicts that we haven't seen in decades. We have massive
• 11:19
Speaker 2: conflict obviously in Europe we haven't seen that in decades.
• 11:23
Speaker 2: There is potential for a war in Taiwan with China.
• 11:28
Speaker 2: All of this is fairly new, and there's a reason
• 11:32
Speaker 2: for that. It's because this administration that we have right
• 11:34
Speaker 2: now is wheak and Donald Trump was not a weak president,
• 11:38
Speaker 2: whatever you may think of him, he was not a
• 11:39
Speaker 2: week president. He had a good foreign policy team. And
• 11:43
Speaker 2: that's a huge, huge potential issue. Another huge potential issue
• 11:46
Speaker 2: is housing. This does not get anywhere near enough attention.
• 11:50
Speaker 2: Housing prices, not just the cost of buying a home,
• 11:55
Speaker 2: the price tag of buying a home, but the cost
• 11:57
Speaker 2: of a mortgage, the monthly payment you actually they have
• 12:00
Speaker 2: to pay as a result of interest rates, which had
• 12:03
Speaker 2: to be increased because of inflation, which occurred because of
• 12:05
Speaker 2: government spending. Housing has never been more expensive, and there's
• 12:09
Speaker 2: also rent. Rent is becoming significantly more expensive. Insurance has
• 12:13
Speaker 2: become significantly more expensive. All of these things did not
• 12:16
Speaker 2: have to happen, and they can be fixed over time,
• 12:19
Speaker 2: but not with the policies that have been put into
• 12:21
Speaker 2: place by the Biden Harris administration. It's going to continue
• 12:24
Speaker 2: to get worse because all they know how to do
• 12:26
Speaker 2: is print money and create inflation, and that leads to prices. Generally,
• 12:32
Speaker 2: there's a reason why the price of everything has gone
• 12:36
Speaker 2: way up. People are actually becoming poorer. That's what inflation means.
• 12:41
Speaker 2: If your wages have not increased as much as the
• 12:44
Speaker 2: prices you're paying for everything, housing, groceries, et cetera, you
• 12:48
Speaker 2: are becoming poorer. Inflation is making you poorer, and I
• 12:52
Speaker 2: think Americans can sense that, they can feel it. They
• 12:54
Speaker 2: don't quite understand what's going on, but a lot of
• 12:57
Speaker 2: it was driven by reckless policies. Some of that can
• 13:01
Speaker 2: be attributed to Democrats and the Federal Reserve just generally,
• 13:06
Speaker 2: but a lot of it has to do with Biden
• 13:07
Speaker 2: Harris specifically, and they have no plans, nothing in their
• 13:11
Speaker 2: agenda that is going to fix that. It's going to
• 13:13
Speaker 2: continue to get worse as the years go by.
• 13:17
Speaker 1: Energy policy is obviously driving a lot of the issues
• 13:23
Speaker 1: that we're facing. It's the first thing Joe Biden did
• 13:27
Speaker 1: is kill the Keystone XL pipeline. Can Donald Trump resurrect
• 13:30
Speaker 1: our energy grid in a fashion a form that it's
• 13:35
Speaker 1: going to make a difference.
• 13:37
Speaker 2: I think. I think so because a lot of that
• 13:39
Speaker 2: is done through deregulation, which is which is done through
• 13:43
Speaker 2: executive orders and things like that, so pretty quickly, the
• 13:47
Speaker 2: Trump administration can help restart the American domestic energy production machine.
• 13:55
Speaker 2: Under Donald Trump, we became for the first time in many,
• 14:01
Speaker 2: many decades the first time in my lifetime, we were
• 14:03
Speaker 2: not dependent on foreign energy to survive here in America.
• 14:08
Speaker 2: We were making so much energy that we were exporting it,
• 14:12
Speaker 2: and so we need to take that back up again.
• 14:14
Speaker 2: I think Trump can do that through executive orders. He
• 14:18
Speaker 2: can send a signal to the entire industry fracking, oil
• 14:22
Speaker 2: and gas, all of these folks that we're going to
• 14:26
Speaker 2: be open for business. We're going to open new leases
• 14:29
Speaker 2: offshore and on land and federal lands and things like that,
• 14:34
Speaker 2: and increase production so that energy prices come down. Because
• 14:38
Speaker 2: if energy prices come down, the price of everything comes down,
• 14:41
Speaker 2: and our economy becomes much stronger and our military is
• 14:44
Speaker 2: much more secure as well. So this is a vital issue,
• 14:49
  Speaker 2: a vital issue for US, and I think it's a
• 14:51
Speaker 2: clear choice between Kamala Harris, who wants to kill the
• 14:55
Speaker 2: domestic oil and gas industry and fossil fuels generally. What
• 15:00
Speaker 2: she says, that's her record for decades, that's her or
• 15:04
Speaker 2: really for a decade, that's been her record. She was
• 15:06
Speaker 2: a co sponsor of the Green New Deal, the AOC
• 15:09
Speaker 2: socialist Green New Deal. She is a radical on that issue.
• 15:13
Speaker 2: And Donald Trump has been a champion of increasing domestic
• 15:17
Speaker 2: energy production. And I think this is obvious choice if
• 15:22
Speaker 2: you want lower prices for energy and you want to
• 15:25
Speaker 2: boost the American economy. Again, I think it's an obvious choice.
• 15:30
Speaker 2: Who you should be thinking about voting for.
• 15:33
Speaker 1: Well, justin the next time, God willing we get to visit,
• 15:37
Speaker 1: we're going to be saying, now what regardless of who wins.
• 15:41
Speaker 1: So I can't wait for our next visit because by then,
• 15:45
Speaker 1: well maybe maybe we'll know who won the election.
• 15:50
  Speaker 2: I doubt it.
• 15:50
Speaker 1: Yeah, that's always possible too. You're a good man, sir.
• 15:54
Speaker 1: Thank you so much. My best to you and your family.
• 15:56
Speaker 2: Thanks, presmen, take care, God bless.
• 15:59
Speaker 1: Justin Haskins with us from the Heartland Institute on vacation,
• 16:04
Speaker 1: still joining us on The Morning Show with Preston Scott
