- 0:00Speaker 1: Coach. Here, we are standing in the locker room. You've
- 0:02Speaker 1: got a routed bunch of guys behind you. So what's
- 0:05Speaker 1: the spirit like after those sixty minutes.
- 0:07Speaker 2: I mean they're excited because it was a complete and
- 0:09Speaker 2: total team win. I mean, every phase played its fart Offensively,
- 0:13Speaker 2: we're balanced, we scored points, we put drives together, we
- 0:16Speaker 2: had big plays. Defensively, we held them I think under
- 0:18Speaker 2: two hundred yards and three points. Special teams was outstanding
- 0:22Speaker 2: against the head coach. You know their head coach as
- 0:24Speaker 2: a special teams coordinator, and we played well. We had
- 0:27Speaker 2: great job on the punt returns. Our kickers did a
- 0:29Speaker 2: great job. I mean, you know, Chris putting the ball
- 0:31Speaker 2: in the end zone, putting through the uprights. So they
- 0:34Speaker 2: feel good about that. But as we just discussed as
- 0:36Speaker 2: a new floor, right, it's a new floor. There's no
- 0:38Speaker 2: turning back, and we've got a lot of things that
- 0:41Speaker 2: we got to improve on, and you know, these guys
- 0:43Speaker 2: will put in the work and they'll.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Improve that three three to five defense that's new to
- 0:47Speaker 1: the guys this year. It feels as if they're getting
- 0:49Speaker 1: more comfortable and the three sacks today came from the
- 0:52Speaker 1: second level. Linebackers sack. So was that something that was
- 0:56Speaker 1: really part of the game plan.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Well, I think there's so much variance in defense, you know,
- 1:01Speaker 2: and you can create confusion with the way you play
- 1:04Speaker 2: it when you really start to understand it. And our
- 1:05Speaker 2: guys are getting a feel for it now and we
- 1:07Speaker 2: still have a lot of mistakes, but they're starting to
- 1:10Speaker 2: get a feel for it. And so when you can
- 1:13Speaker 2: attack with front guys, linebackers, even secondary guys, I mean,
- 1:16Speaker 2: it makes it difficult on teams and protection. And so
- 1:19Speaker 2: just having that understanding of what we are trying to
- 1:22Speaker 2: become and really starting to understand their role in the defense.
- 1:25Speaker 2: You can see that it's starting to pay off, but
- 1:27Speaker 2: we're a long ways from where we want to be.
- 1:29Speaker 1: So a couple of defensive linemen even drop back into
- 1:31Speaker 1: coverage and knock some passes down. So is that something
- 1:33Speaker 1: on tape that you had a sense you'd be able
- 1:35Speaker 1: to execute?
- 1:36Speaker 2: I mean the first third down of the game. I
- 1:37Speaker 2: think we did that. No, I mean we do that.
- 1:39Speaker 2: That's part of thee That's as interesting part of the
- 1:41Speaker 2: scheme is you know you talk about bringing second level guys.
- 1:44Speaker 2: You can bring second level guys. You can drop big
- 1:46Speaker 2: guys out and you try although you're trying to just
- 1:48Speaker 2: get them and throwing lanes really and confuse protection. I
- 1:51Speaker 2: think Matt and the defensive staff just do an amazing job.
- 1:55Speaker 2: Amazing job, but it's really our players have to go
- 1:57Speaker 2: out and execute, and they're doing a heck of a job.
- 1:59Speaker 2: But like I said, there's a lot of work to
- 2:01Speaker 2: do and we are happy, but we're not near satisfied.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Skyler Bell had three touchdowns, three totally different plays. You
- 2:07Speaker 1: had a ball up top for forty yards, he ran
- 2:10Speaker 1: it most of the way for seventy and then he
- 2:12Speaker 1: had an underneath slant. So it just feels like this
- 2:14Speaker 1: guy's getting more and more comfortable.
- 2:16Speaker 2: Well, he's a good player. He works really hard during
- 2:18Speaker 2: the week. He takes it seriously. He's out on the jugs,
- 2:21Speaker 2: he's getting extra throws with the quarterbacks. It's very important
- 2:25Speaker 2: to him. I mean, I think his success is because
- 2:27Speaker 2: number one, he's talented. Number two, he cares, and number
- 2:29Speaker 2: three he works really, really hard at it. He's a
- 2:32Speaker 2: hell of a good kid. He's a heck of a
- 2:34Speaker 2: good player.
- 2:35Speaker 1: And without making too much deal of what happened pregame,
- 2:38Speaker 1: there was a little bit of a connection between the
- 2:41Speaker 1: two teams at about ten thirty this morning. So how
- 2:44Speaker 1: was that able to set the tone for today's game.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Well, I think our guys had handled it very very well.
- 2:50Speaker 2: You know, obviously it wasn't it was bush league on
- 2:58Speaker 2: their part. It was I'm just going to be honest,
- 3:00Speaker 2: I'm not I mean, it happens. It's not like I'm
- 3:02Speaker 2: throwing stones at him. But our guys manage their emotions
- 3:06Speaker 2: and you can tell by the differential and penalties. Now,
- 3:09Speaker 2: we have to be better in the second half penalties.
- 3:10Speaker 2: Second half penalties in the last two weeks have heard
- 3:12Speaker 2: us so, but our guys had the discipline of maturity
- 3:16Speaker 2: to not get drawn into the antics that they were
- 3:19Speaker 2: trying to draw us into.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Coach, congrats on the win.
- 3:22Speaker 2: Thank you.
