- 0:02Speaker 1: Radio Radio Radio Commies, a myth and bullshit, a radio
- 0:16Speaker 1: phonic novella Local Radio hosted by Malamoola Locamores. Welcome to
- 0:24Speaker 1: season five of Local Radio Rosas. Listen at your own risk.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Look at Radio is a radio phonic novella, which is
- 0:34Speaker 1: just a very extra way of saying a podcast. I'm
- 0:39Speaker 1: diosa and I am mala. Thanks for tuning in to
- 0:45Speaker 1: one oh eight, Thanks for being here, Thanks for coming
- 0:49Speaker 1: to our weekly show. Thanks for tuning in, Thanks for
- 0:52Speaker 1: coming back. If you didn't notice, we are, in fact
- 0:55Speaker 1: a weekly show, please tell everybody that you know, please
- 0:58Speaker 1: make sure you're hitting the subscribe but and so you
- 1:00Speaker 1: don't miss an episode because we're just churning them out
- 1:03Speaker 1: these days every week, as a weekly show does. Per
- 1:08Speaker 1: my Bodyma, she asked me, how does it feel to
- 1:11Speaker 1: pop out an episode from your vagina per week? Not
- 1:15Speaker 1: exactly how I would describe the process, but that is
- 1:17Speaker 1: one way to look at it. It's a birth of sorts,
- 1:21Speaker 1: it's a birthing. It's a type of birthing. Not that
- 1:24Speaker 1: far off. So last week on Look at That our radio,
- 1:29Speaker 1: we discussed cheeto gate. We spoke with Rachel Reyes, who
- 1:34Speaker 1: is a lot of things, including the ex girlfriend of
- 1:39Speaker 1: the journalist who wrote the alleged expose in the l
- 1:43Speaker 1: A Times about Richard montonies and the origins of the
- 1:48Speaker 1: chip that today we now know as the Flaming Hot Cheeto.
- 1:51Speaker 1: So tune into that episode if you haven't already. It's
- 1:54Speaker 1: pretty salacious and dramatic. I really had fun that episode.
- 1:59Speaker 1: It's like a little bit of like like it's like
- 2:01Speaker 1: it's a little more of like a free form episode.
- 2:05Speaker 1: You know, we get into some nitty gritty topics, but
- 2:08Speaker 1: it's also like a little bit of cheeseman, you know,
- 2:11Speaker 1: which we which we love here. I look at what
- 2:14Speaker 1: our radio we respect the cheeseman, the community information. Oh yeah, one, um,
- 2:20Speaker 1: you know. I was actually this is not directly related,
- 2:23Speaker 1: but I I sometimes like to watch on YouTube like
- 2:28Speaker 1: reels of like Whoopie Goldberg and Megan McCain Like, oh yeah,
- 2:32Speaker 1: there's like so many compilations of fights from the view,
- 2:38Speaker 1: I'm saying, and I'm like, you know what, they cover
- 2:40Speaker 1: some real ship on this show. You know, of course
- 2:42Speaker 1: there's the drama, and there's the petty and there's the
- 2:45Speaker 1: gossip in here and there, but the view is covering
- 2:47Speaker 1: some hard hitting topics with nuance, and I was like,
- 2:50Speaker 1: you know what, you know what if we are something
- 2:54Speaker 1: like The View with less fighting and less pettiness, I
- 2:57Speaker 1: will say I'm happy with that, you know what I mean? Yeah, yeah,
- 3:01Speaker 1: definitely um less Megan McCain obviously, no, no, no Megan
- 3:06Speaker 1: McCain at all, but no, I agree with you. You know,
- 3:09Speaker 1: I like a well rounded like we're well rounded people.
- 3:13Speaker 1: We're not just like news news, news theory, theory theory,
- 3:17Speaker 1: were like fun. We want to laugh, we want to learn,
- 3:20Speaker 1: we want some cheeseman, we want some drama, you know,
- 3:23Speaker 1: like it doesn't have to be lookupistemologies every single episode.
- 3:27Speaker 1: And that's what I love about us, and I think
- 3:29Speaker 1: that that's also why our listeners are look on what
- 3:32Speaker 1: is come back every week. I agree with that. I
- 3:35Speaker 1: agree with that that being sad, you know the drill.
- 3:38Speaker 1: We have some updates and housekeeping Number one follow us
- 3:41Speaker 1: across socials everywhere, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok. Clubhouse is kind of dead,
- 3:47Speaker 1: but it's still a thing, So I don't know you

- 5:28Speaker 1: dollars in contributions, so let's see where we end up
- 5:31Speaker 1: by the time this episode comes out. As you know,
- 5:35Speaker 1: Latin X people and people in general love podcasts, so
- 5:38Speaker 1: do we. We love making podcasts, so we want to
- 5:41Speaker 1: make them all the time. We want a slate of
- 5:43Speaker 1: our own original shows. We want to produce just like
- 5:47Speaker 1: we have been doing. If you're a listener, you've probably
- 5:50Speaker 1: noticed or realized that we have been acting as a
- 5:55Speaker 1: production house for years now, right, because we do everything
- 5:59Speaker 1: ourselves from pen to post, and that's exactly what we
- 6:01Speaker 1: want to do on a larger scale. So we want
- 6:03Speaker 1: to thank all of our pot friends who have donated
- 6:06Speaker 1: incentives like Joy Filled with Joy, Yakari Gabriel, Collie, far

- 6:16Speaker 1: we also want to thank our funders. Thus far, we
- 6:19Speaker 1: have a hundred and seventy eight funders, so thank you
- 6:22Speaker 1: so much for contributing to our iPhone women campaign for
- 6:27Speaker 1: believing and look at our productions believing in us. And
- 6:30Speaker 1: if you are a funder, keep listening each episode and
- 6:32Speaker 1: we will thank a new group of fenders. So keep
- 6:35Speaker 1: listening to this episode to hear your name at the end.
- 6:40Speaker 1: So today's episode is our Pride episode. Although Pride is
- 6:44Speaker 1: always every day, we don't need a specific month to
- 6:47Speaker 1: celebrate pride or acknowledge Pride. We figure we might as well,
- 6:53Speaker 1: especially since you know we are bisexual podcast hosts. Yeah
- 6:59Speaker 1: you know, fitting never actually done like a Pride month episode.
- 7:03Speaker 1: So I was like, Mala, we need to give it
- 7:05Speaker 1: to the fans. We need to give the episode to
- 7:08Speaker 1: our listeners and remind some of y'all in case you
- 7:12Speaker 1: have forgotten or maybe you didn't know, because we really
- 7:14Speaker 1: haven't done an episode on this. Um is on our
- 7:17Speaker 1: own queer identity and just overall history on Pride. We're
- 7:23Speaker 1: Pride is today and some of our favorite queer icons,
- 7:27Speaker 1: either current fictional maybe who we have crushes on and
- 7:33Speaker 1: we were little all of that. So this is gonna
- 7:34Speaker 1: be a fun episode. Um, it's gonna be We're gonna
- 7:37Speaker 1: dive into different topics, so let's get into it. Yeah,
- 7:43Speaker 1: you know, we in our our history as a podcast
- 7:46Speaker 1: have never really been able we I don't know what.
- 7:49Speaker 1: It hasn't been our thing to keep up with like
- 7:51Speaker 1: the months and like the holidays and like that. You know,
- 7:55Speaker 1: we have a different sort of calendar when it comes
- 7:57Speaker 1: to the content that we put out. But I think
- 8:00Speaker 1: we're gonna try right to like do more like beamed
- 8:03Speaker 1: episodes that have to do with like the time of year,
- 8:05Speaker 1: you know, and like these the heritage months and things
- 8:07Speaker 1: like that. So and make it personal, right and like
- 8:11Speaker 1: and and and make it us. But yeah, I'm excited. Um.
- 8:16Speaker 1: I think that I don't always talk as much about
- 8:20Speaker 1: my queer identity because I'm not completely totally out with
- 8:22Speaker 1: my family, you know what I mean. I'm not trying
- 8:24Speaker 1: to kill my grandma, like not me. If somebody else,
- 8:29Speaker 1: like if someone else would like to reveal something about themselves,
- 8:34Speaker 1: like they can do that, I can wait, I really can. Like.
- 8:38Speaker 1: But so we're doing it here. We are chatting about
- 8:41Speaker 1: it because when it comes to like my internet and
- 8:43Speaker 1: my art and things like that, I'm much more open.
- 8:46Speaker 1: Also because my family could not find my podcast, like
- 8:48Speaker 1: if I literally paid them, like it's been it's been years.
- 8:53Speaker 1: Your dad. Sometimes it's still a vlog, it's a blog,
- 8:57Speaker 1: it's a blog. We're chill, We're safe. I think that
- 9:01Speaker 1: that's a good reminder to folks that, like, um, sometimes
- 9:04Speaker 1: I think we want creators or podcasters to be like
- 9:08Speaker 1: super visible about certain things, and sometimes we just can't
- 9:12Speaker 1: for lots of reasons, right, And that's like one reason
- 9:15Speaker 1: why I know I've been very conscious of not to
- 9:17Speaker 1: like outwardly be like, well, this is a queer podcast,
- 9:20Speaker 1: this is a queer lead podcast, because I know that
- 9:22Speaker 1: Mama isn't entirely out to everybody, and she doesn't have
- 9:26Speaker 1: to be right, And so that's also why we're more
- 9:29Speaker 1: selective with the language that we do use, right, and
- 9:32Speaker 1: we respect that, And I think that that's an experience
- 9:35Speaker 1: that a lot of folks can relate to. And they're
- 9:37Speaker 1: not out on social media. They're not out to their
- 9:40Speaker 1: friends and family yet, or maybe they are, because you know,
- 9:43Speaker 1: everyone is on the spectrum in some way true, oh truly,
- 9:49Speaker 1: the way that again, the way that everyone's gay. It's fine,
- 9:54Speaker 1: like we can start there, but I will say, oh
- 9:57Speaker 1: my god, I don't think I've told you this because
- 9:59Speaker 1: I just so freaking funny, dude, so you know, we
- 10:02Speaker 1: had We've had many events in the past before the pandemic.
- 10:06Speaker 1: We've thrown look at That Alive a podcast party, We've
- 10:09Speaker 1: done pop ups, we've we've done all kinds of things.
- 10:11Speaker 1: We've hosted events, and our families have come to our
- 10:15Speaker 1: events and come to our parties and come to our nightlife.
- 10:17Speaker 1: Our parties are always super femine, super queer, like they
- 10:20Speaker 1: are because that's our fan base and so like, you know,
- 10:24Speaker 1: that's the community. So everybody shows up their fabulous selves,
- 10:28Speaker 1: you know, dress the way that they dress, and dancing
- 10:31Speaker 1: the way that they dance, and like loving the way
- 10:33Speaker 1: that they love, which is like what we love. But
- 10:36Speaker 1: my family noticed, you know, they noticed, like they noticed
- 10:43Speaker 1: at one of our parties. It was at the Paramount
- 10:45Speaker 1: at the last look at the look at That I
- 10:47Speaker 1: Live a podcast party, and my Grandma Natcha was like
- 10:51Speaker 1: was there. My Grandma Naca was there, and my mom
- 10:53Speaker 1: was there, and you know, my mom is a little
- 10:55Speaker 1: more discreeched, a little more subtle, but my Grandma's just
- 10:57Speaker 1: gonna say whatever she's noticing and whatever is on her mind.
- 11:00Speaker 1: So my Grandma nat chat and she'll bring it up
- 11:02Speaker 1: sometimes even now and it's been a couple of years now,
- 11:05Speaker 1: she's like, oh, like just less bianest, like you know,
- 11:13Speaker 1: and the Lesbiana s Lesbiana. It's like, I'm you know,
- 11:23Speaker 1: and I'm like, I mean yeah there were or literally
- 11:28Speaker 1: where that isn't astute observation? Are we connecting dots? Can
- 11:33Speaker 1: we connect dots? Now? Do I need to connect the dots?
- 11:37Speaker 1: Or I mean maybe that was her way of connecting it,
- 11:40Speaker 1: like she's telling you, I know, without telling you, because
- 11:44Speaker 1: if she's multiple times like maybe she's like I see
- 11:47Speaker 1: something here, but I'm I'm gonna wait for you to
- 11:50Speaker 1: either confirm or deny, and of course you're not going
- 11:53Speaker 1: to do neither. Yeah, yeah, yeah, well because this is
- 11:56Speaker 1: how it is. This is how it is. It's like
- 11:59Speaker 1: it's like so and so came out as gay and
- 12:02Speaker 1: it's like he's like not you two. So I'm like
- 12:12Speaker 1: it's and this is the thing is like there's nothing
- 12:15Speaker 1: that's like outwardly vindictive or homophobic or hateful or hurtful.
- 12:20Speaker 1: It's just you know, it is what it is, and
- 12:24Speaker 1: I know what it is. And I like my peace
- 12:27Speaker 1: me personally, I like my peace. I was gonna say, like,
- 12:31Speaker 1: of course we don't want to deal with like homophobia
- 12:36Speaker 1: or misogyny or any of those things. But sometimes it's
- 12:41Speaker 1: like meeting people where they're at, and I think that
- 12:43Speaker 1: that's one way we do that, right, Um, And when
- 12:47Speaker 1: I think about it, I probably don't talk to my
- 12:49Speaker 1: family about my dating life at all at all, at all,
- 12:53Speaker 1: like in general, like they don't know when I'm going
- 12:56Speaker 1: on dates or who I'm going on dates with, and
- 12:59Speaker 1: they really don't ask me, and there's much of it
- 13:02Speaker 1: is just again there's this this chastity in this this
- 13:09Speaker 1: this like silence around dating and sexuality. But there is
- 13:13Speaker 1: also the expectation that somehow a husband be conjured. Up right,
- 13:19Speaker 1: how to find said husband? I gotta go out, I
- 13:23Speaker 1: have to be in the streets, dude, constantly actively. But
- 13:27Speaker 1: that's the part that there's a there's a gap there, right,
- 13:32Speaker 1: They don't really want to hear about it, you know,
- 13:35Speaker 1: it kind of makes sense and I don't necessarily want
- 13:36Speaker 1: to share because if you ask me about who I'm
- 13:39Speaker 1: dating today, it's some dude. It's just some sucking dude.
- 13:43Speaker 1: They're all just some dude until they become someone important, right,
- 13:48Speaker 1: So why are you going to ask me? And then
- 13:50Speaker 1: you're gonna ask me, oh, well, how was it? Did
- 13:52Speaker 1: you have fun? You're going to see them again? What's
- 13:53Speaker 1: their name? It's too much information. So I don't even
- 13:59Speaker 1: share about the men. Why am I going to share
- 14:01Speaker 1: about the women? You know? Kind of that's the space
- 14:05Speaker 1: I'm sort of also in just private. No, I completely
- 14:08Speaker 1: get that. I I yeah, I hear that. I hear that.
- 14:12Speaker 1: Dating when you're surrounded by family. I think it is
- 14:16Speaker 1: annoying and complicated and hard, and there's there's like so
- 14:18Speaker 1: many layers to it, right if you throw in like sexuality, um,
- 14:22Speaker 1: and the gender uh, and then the roles that we
- 14:27Speaker 1: are put on us as women, right and that the
- 14:29Speaker 1: gender roles will expect to fulfill and we have to
- 14:32Speaker 1: be home by a sort of hour, and it's just
- 14:33Speaker 1: a mess. That's just all around. It is it really is.
- 14:39Speaker 1: And you've been dating and navigating your own queer relationship
- 14:45Speaker 1: and sexuality at home, but in a very different way, yeah,
- 14:49Speaker 1: pretty openly for over ten years now, um, and so
- 14:55Speaker 1: that has been quite the experience. And um, I have
- 15:00Speaker 1: been I don't like to say I've been out. I'm
- 15:03Speaker 1: like I was forced out. My mom like went through
- 15:06Speaker 1: my phone when I was about to turn sixteen, and
- 15:10Speaker 1: so that's how she discovered that I had a girlfriend,
- 15:14Speaker 1: and it was the whole thing. And so I was
- 15:15Speaker 1: definitely not ready to be quote out, but it is
- 15:18Speaker 1: what it is. And so that was kind of my
- 15:21Speaker 1: trajectory into being out in my at least with my parents.
- 15:25Speaker 1: And so yeah, it's just been like a journey of dating.
- 15:30Speaker 1: And I will say, like everyone seriously that I've dated,
- 15:34Speaker 1: right has been very much involved in my family, and
- 15:37Speaker 1: so it's it's definitely it's the complete opposite. I think
- 15:41Speaker 1: of what you shared right where it's like when I had,
- 15:45Speaker 1: you know, my girlfriend from undergrad, Um, she was very
- 15:50Speaker 1: involved in my family. And so then when there's a breakup,
- 15:53Speaker 1: you know, it's like the family breaks up and it's
- 15:55Speaker 1: it sucks and it's awkward, and then you move on
- 15:58Speaker 1: and then it's like, oh, but what about this person?
- 16:00Speaker 1: And and so yeah, I definitely think like keeping the
- 16:03Speaker 1: separation is important and then not bringing folks around until
- 16:06Speaker 1: like you really know or you're really ready. Um. And
- 16:10Speaker 1: so when I started dating my current partner, I like,
- 16:14Speaker 1: you like, okay, like if I'm bringing this full around,
- 16:17Speaker 1: like it has to be because he's going to be
- 16:19Speaker 1: around for a while. Um, and it had that's been
- 16:21Speaker 1: the case. Um. But I also think that that allowed
- 16:25Speaker 1: or forced my parents and I to have a conversation
- 16:28Speaker 1: about bisexuality that maybe I wasn't prepared to have when
- 16:32Speaker 1: I did start dating said partner of almost four years
- 16:36Speaker 1: ago now because they were confused. They were so confused,
- 16:42Speaker 1: I like, will never forget when my dad was like,
- 16:46Speaker 1: cheek us, and that's correct, that's true, and I was
- 16:51Speaker 1: thinking that was my response to him, and um, and
- 16:58Speaker 1: so then, you know, ever since, I'm still navigating those
- 17:01Speaker 1: conversations and I like, well, remind my mom like every
- 17:04Speaker 1: now and then, like I'm not saying I'm going to
- 17:06Speaker 1: break up with this person, but if I were to
- 17:09Speaker 1: break up with them, or if there were to be
- 17:11Speaker 1: a breakup, right, um, I could potentially date a woman
- 17:15Speaker 1: in the future. And I need you to be aware
- 17:17Speaker 1: of that. Like it's not just like a switch, you know.
- 17:20Speaker 1: And so I think having to confront that by phobia
- 17:25Speaker 1: in my extended family, my own internalized by phobia of
- 17:29Speaker 1: like not even wanting to be out as a bisexual
- 17:31Speaker 1: for years, I refused. I was like, I am a lesbian,
- 17:35Speaker 1: that is it. I was like, so like not willing
- 17:39Speaker 1: to budge on that identity until I literally had to
- 17:42Speaker 1: because I could not deny like that, I wanted to
- 17:45Speaker 1: explore who I was, and so I spent my early
- 17:49Speaker 1: twenties doing that. And you know, it's led me to
- 17:52Speaker 1: be with a man as sis heado man, which I
- 17:57Speaker 1: think has also may me take a step back, a
- 18:02Speaker 1: very conscious step back from lots of queer conversations, because
- 18:06Speaker 1: I am in a perceived heteral relationship and so that's
- 18:10Speaker 1: where I'm at, and I think I've kind of been
- 18:14Speaker 1: like playing with that or thinking about that, or like,
- 18:17Speaker 1: is this just me being like biophobic to myself, like
- 18:20Speaker 1: that I'm separating myself from community, and so I think
- 18:24Speaker 1: that's why for me, it was important this year that
- 18:26Speaker 1: we did do like an episode because I'm like, wait, no,
- 18:28Speaker 1: Like I deserve to be in community too. Like doesn't
- 18:30Speaker 1: mean I have to bring my man around, but I
- 18:33Speaker 1: still deserve like queer friends and queer spaces, bit of
- 19:19Speaker 1: it and little ship. Hey look, amores, we have a
- 19:25Speaker 1: quick announcement about our I Fund Women campaign. As you
- 19:28Speaker 1: may have heard, we're raising one hundred thousand dollars to
- 19:31Speaker 1: cover the startup costs of look at Productions and pay
- 19:34Speaker 1: our team. We are well on our way to reaching
- 19:36Speaker 1: our goal, but we still need your help to get there.
- 19:39Speaker 1: If all of our listeners and one friend donated five dollars,
- 19:43Speaker 1: we would meet our goal well before ninety days. Consider
- 19:46Speaker 1: becoming a funder of Look at Thought our productions and
- 19:49Speaker 1: contribute on I fund Women dot Com, Forward Slash Project,
- 19:53Speaker 1: Forward Slash Dash Productions. I think also we try to
- 19:58Speaker 1: be super conscientious about not like taking up too much
- 20:03Speaker 1: space or monetizing or you know, capitalizing on things that
- 20:11Speaker 1: doesn't make sense for us to capitalize on, you know,
- 20:14Speaker 1: like especially just given everything that we've talked about today,
- 20:18Speaker 1: we don't need to be the face of everything you
- 20:22Speaker 1: know that that goes into our lives and personalities. Um,
- 20:27Speaker 1: we don't have to create content out of like every
- 20:31Speaker 1: facet of our beings. But it's all here, Like it's
- 20:35Speaker 1: still here, and it still goes into how we choose
- 20:38Speaker 1: our guests and how we choose our topics, and how
- 20:40Speaker 1: we talk about things and who we spend time with,
- 20:43Speaker 1: like it all is still involved, you know. So yeah,
- 20:49Speaker 1: I think like it's it's also just us being like conscientious,
- 20:54Speaker 1: you know. Yeah, I think that we are extremely conscient
- 21:00Speaker 1: inches and extremely intentional that I think there are times
- 21:04Speaker 1: that we do limit ourselves, right, Like even the fact
- 21:07Speaker 1: that it took us what five seasons to put out
- 21:09Speaker 1: our first episode about like being queer, you know, and
- 21:14Speaker 1: like there's tons of reasons and like we already dressed
- 21:16Speaker 1: address thous in the beginning. But I think, like, yeah,
- 21:19Speaker 1: sometimes we were very conscientious of the space that we
- 21:23Speaker 1: do take up and what kind of lane we want
- 21:25Speaker 1: to occupy. And we don't have to be the ones
- 21:29Speaker 1: speaking on things all the time. Instead we pass the mic.
- 21:32Speaker 1: And I think if you're a long time listener, you
- 21:35Speaker 1: know that we try to bring guests when we can
- 21:38Speaker 1: to discuss all kinds of topics that we can't speak to,
- 21:42Speaker 1: but we want to support, we want to uplift that
- 21:44Speaker 1: whole thing. And um, you know, I think that we're
- 21:49Speaker 1: like in a really interesting time when it comes to Pride,
- 21:53Speaker 1: because at least Pride months, I think now like as
- 21:57Speaker 1: queer people, as like or like a queer community at
- 21:59Speaker 1: least if you're on the more like progressive like radical side. Um,
- 22:03Speaker 1: you see, like the way companies have really corporatized off
- 22:07Speaker 1: of this month, right, how many companies do you see
- 22:11Speaker 1: have their little like rainbow logo for the month, but
- 22:14Speaker 1: are still contributing to politicians campaigns that are actively campaigning
- 22:19Speaker 1: against like human rights, like that are actively campaigning against
- 22:25Speaker 1: the benefit and livelihood of queer folks, right bills that
- 22:29Speaker 1: are will affect queer and trans people, especially trans women
- 22:32Speaker 1: of color. So there's there's so much there, And I
- 22:35Speaker 1: think that that's also another reason, yeah, totally. Um, just
- 22:41Speaker 1: in the same way, we're also not necessarily even going
- 22:44Speaker 1: to center ourselves in Latin X conversations. Listen, y'all, we're
- 22:50Speaker 1: very aware of the privileges we have. We can always
- 22:53Speaker 1: do better in many ways. But I think like, yeah,
- 22:57Speaker 1: we we don't like to send ourselves in lots of convos. Yeah,
- 23:00Speaker 1: I mean in like the identity based conversation specifically right now,
- 23:06Speaker 1: I think that that where we have found our footing
- 23:09Speaker 1: is like where our strengths are, which is our creativity
- 23:12Speaker 1: and what we do. We podcast, We are producers. We
- 23:17Speaker 1: produce podcasts and media and short films, and we write
- 23:22Speaker 1: and that's where we shine, and so that's what we
- 23:25Speaker 1: like to talk about. And um, we like to bring
- 23:28Speaker 1: people on the show who are also talking about their
- 23:32Speaker 1: creativity and what they do and like their talents and
- 23:36Speaker 1: skill sets, like their creat you know, what are they
- 23:39Speaker 1: innovating on? And it just so happens that they tend
- 23:43Speaker 1: to be women of color, of various experiences, you know.
- 23:47Speaker 1: So I feel like that's been are the way that
- 23:51Speaker 1: we've yes, that's the way that we've we've made space
- 23:54Speaker 1: for ourselves is like we just happened to be these
- 23:57Speaker 1: people doing this thing and doing it really really well.
- 24:00Speaker 1: And I think if you relate and you find yourself
- 24:03Speaker 1: in it or something in it, that's sucking dope. But
- 24:06Speaker 1: we're not elected officials, you know what I mean. Like
- 24:10Speaker 1: the representation stuff I think is very now like to us,
- 24:16Speaker 1: it's very to us. It's very it's what are we doing?
- 24:21Speaker 1: You know? Um right, it's not just like Latinas doing podcasting.
- 24:27Speaker 1: It's podcasters that are Latinas that are innovating the space,
- 24:31Speaker 1: the industry, you know, Like it's an addition to who
- 24:34Speaker 1: we are, it's not the only thing that we are.
- 24:37Speaker 1: And I think that representation politics are a trap, right,
- 24:43Speaker 1: and I think it can put us on this pedestal
- 24:45Speaker 1: that we don't want to be on. And I love
- 24:48Speaker 1: hearing that folks can see themselves in us, and there
- 24:52Speaker 1: were representation for like, you know, maybe their experiences, but
- 24:57Speaker 1: we're not like representations of the entire community. Yeah, you know,
- 25:00Speaker 1: I never claimed to be that. We never will be
- 25:02Speaker 1: you know. Yeah, yeah, no, sorry, that's about us. He agrees.
- 25:08Speaker 1: He's like, yeah, this's not this bitch. Don't don't put
- 25:11Speaker 1: all your hopes and dreams and community aspirations on this
- 25:15Speaker 1: bitch over here, right, you know, like we're here to
- 25:19Speaker 1: make podcasts. We are here to make art. We are
- 25:22Speaker 1: here to tell stories, we are here to create media.
- 25:25Speaker 1: We're here to produce. Um. And that's what we do.
- 25:28Speaker 1: And more and more it's going to turn into like
- 25:30Speaker 1: different types of art, types of production and scripted stuff
- 25:36Speaker 1: and fictional stuff and dramas and comedies and we'd content
- 25:40Speaker 1: and you know, um, and I want to allow us
- 25:44Speaker 1: that space and that freedom. You know. Yes, I think
- 25:49Speaker 1: that arts should be freedom. It should be freeing, it
- 25:52Speaker 1: should be liberating. And you know, speaking of I wanted
- 25:57Speaker 1: to ask you, because I can think of like so
- 25:59Speaker 1: many people, I wanted to ask you, growing up, did
- 26:03Speaker 1: you have because we are talking about representation, right, um,
- 26:07Speaker 1: growing up, did you have like a queer crush or
- 26:12Speaker 1: like your first awakening and like who is that person
- 26:15Speaker 1: that like insided that in you. It doesn't have to
- 26:18Speaker 1: be like a real person you knew like it could
- 26:20Speaker 1: be in media, you know, you don't have to telling
- 26:23Speaker 1: yourself or anything. Sure, um man, this is so interesting
- 26:29Speaker 1: because I feel like there were so many like not
- 26:35Speaker 1: only like TV shows, movies like actresses, but also cartoons
- 26:41Speaker 1: that growing up, we had so many like uh like
- 26:45Speaker 1: girl lad female lad shows and movies and and you know,
- 26:50Speaker 1: there was a lot of media just with like girls,
- 26:52Speaker 1: you know, being main characters and obviously loving all of
- 26:57Speaker 1: that because girl power and stuff, but also loving it
- 27:00Speaker 1: because they were hot and cute and I loved them,
- 27:03Speaker 1: you know what I mean, So anywhere from like Okay,
- 27:07Speaker 1: this is random, but remember as told by Ginger, Yeah,
- 27:11Speaker 1: if I loved Ginger, that is so cute. But also
- 27:18Speaker 1: like you know, um, Lilo and Stitch, Lilo's sister, Yes,
- 27:25Speaker 1: what's her name? I think, so so hot, so fine.
- 27:29Speaker 1: I had not thought about that, but you're right Atlantis, Atlantis, Yes,
- 27:35Speaker 1: the woman beautiful, yes, whoever she whatever her name was.
- 27:40Speaker 1: I mean, there's it's gonna be a lot of cartoons
- 27:44Speaker 1: to begin with, okay, but also I mean, oh my god,
- 27:49Speaker 1: I feel like I loved who else did I love? Well?
- 27:53Speaker 1: They were also I feel like there was also like
- 27:56Speaker 1: you know, I grew up also watching like The Bird
- 28:00Speaker 1: Cage and like Too Wong Food and so not just
- 28:04Speaker 1: like queer icons that I had crushes on, but like
- 28:06Speaker 1: also like I was watching and enjoying like queer movies
- 28:12Speaker 1: you know, um with my mom, and also watching like
- 28:16Speaker 1: Turner classic movies. There's like you know, so that was
- 28:20Speaker 1: also fun for me. I enjoyed that. So I knew
- 28:23Speaker 1: that I had an appreciation for queerness as far as like, okay,
- 28:28Speaker 1: the movies, the drag, the storylines, like everything is wonderful,
- 28:32Speaker 1: you know um. But then I think it wasn't until
- 28:36Speaker 1: later that I was like, oh, but I also I
- 28:38Speaker 1: am queer because I also don't just like these girls
- 28:43Speaker 1: and these women like I think they're like awesome and
- 28:46Speaker 1: I want to date them, you know what I mean? Yeah,
- 28:50Speaker 1: I would say that that was my Yeah. I think
- 28:52Speaker 1: being a queer woman is like a constant question of
- 28:55Speaker 1: like do I want to be you or do I
- 28:57Speaker 1: want to date you? You know, And I constantly, well
- 29:01Speaker 1: not constantly, but I have found myself asking myself that,
- 29:04Speaker 1: you know, over the years, like can I try it
- 29:06Speaker 1: to this person or do I want to be them?
- 29:08Speaker 1: You know, um, because sometimes there's there's something that captivates
- 29:11Speaker 1: you right about someone, um, and so you're asking yourself
- 29:15Speaker 1: that question exactly. Miranda from Lizzie McGuire. Do I just
- 29:21Speaker 1: really relate to Miranda? Or do I think Miranda is
- 29:24Speaker 1: like so cute and cool? And do I want to
- 29:26Speaker 1: hold her hand? You know what I mean? I can't tell. Yeah, Okay,
- 29:30Speaker 1: Speaking of cartoons, um Megra from Hercules, Yes, she was
- 29:37Speaker 1: a battie. She was a battie. She was a battye.
- 29:41Speaker 1: She was a batty. Also in um Uh is it
- 29:45Speaker 1: the Emperor's New Groove, there's like a really cute character
- 29:50Speaker 1: who wears like she has long hair, she has bangs, like,
- 29:55Speaker 1: there's like a cute little two piece outfit, real hervy.
- 30:01Speaker 1: It's a South American cartoon. Is that the ambers New Groove?
- 30:05Speaker 1: Or is that Atlantis? Are they both in the same movie?
- 30:09Speaker 1: The Girl in the Blue who's from the from Atlantis?
- 30:13Speaker 1: And then there's like no, no, no. In Atlantis, there
- 30:15Speaker 1: was another cute one who was like the sassy latina,
- 30:19Speaker 1: but she wore a little hat, she had short hair.
- 30:22Speaker 1: Oh yes, yes, yes, she was like an engineer. She
- 30:24Speaker 1: was also hot. She was also super cute. Also loved her.
- 30:28Speaker 1: So there was so many No, but I think I
- 30:32Speaker 1: want to say, if it's not the Emperor, the Road
- 30:34Speaker 1: to Eldorado, she was. That's the one I was thinking,
- 30:38Speaker 1: the road who had got it? Got it? She had
- 30:41Speaker 1: the blump things that she had, her cute little like
- 30:43Speaker 1: she had like a two piece. Yes, yes, let's see
- 30:46Speaker 1: all these cartoon girls, these hotties. I end up. I
- 30:50Speaker 1: ended up. I end up emulating them. I think in
- 30:52Speaker 1: my in my style and how I dress. So it
- 30:55Speaker 1: goes back to do I want to beat them or
- 30:58Speaker 1: do I want to date them? Became them, but I
- 31:00Speaker 1: still want to date them both. Yes, I want to
- 31:03Speaker 1: date myself. When people ask me what's your type, I
- 31:05Speaker 1: say bad bitches. I'm like girls, I look like me.
- 31:10Speaker 1: It was so funny because somebody was like, so, when
- 31:12Speaker 1: are you and MoMA going to start dating? And my
- 31:14Speaker 1: response was no, I'm too small for MoMA. Friends were
- 31:21Speaker 1: business partners. She's my home or is my sister? No,
- 31:24Speaker 1: I'm not her dying. That's very funny, right, I will
- 31:30Speaker 1: say this. Yeah, I know, you're right. We are a
- 31:35Speaker 1: purely platonic friendship. We just truly are we just truly
- 31:41Speaker 1: as much as people want to make it happen, it's
- 31:44Speaker 1: not going to happen. It's not the case. Yeah, it's not.
- 31:47Speaker 1: But we will live in the fantasy. Yes, we will
- 31:50Speaker 1: will deliver the fantasy. Because we're artists. We can deliver
- 31:54Speaker 1: a fantasy. You know, we know what you guys are thinking.
- 31:57Speaker 1: We know what you guys, and we know you don't
- 32:00Speaker 1: think we know. Yes, it's true, we do know. We
- 32:05Speaker 1: do know. Well everybody. On that note, we just want
- 32:09Speaker 1: to remind you support your favorite queer trends q POC
- 32:15Speaker 1: creators all year round, not just Pride Month. And remember
- 32:19Speaker 1: that Pride started as a political uprising in nineteen nine
- 32:25Speaker 1: UM and it was a resistance. It was an act
- 32:27Speaker 1: of resistance. And so you know, just it's important that
- 32:29Speaker 1: we remember our history, our queer history, and that we're
- 32:32Speaker 1: rooted in that, and we also archive what we're doing,
- 32:37Speaker 1: our work, because while we have lost a lot of
- 32:40Speaker 1: our queer ancestors for many different reasons, one being the
- 32:44Speaker 1: AIDS pandemic now endemic. There was things have gotten lost
- 32:50Speaker 1: and so it's really important that we archive, that we document,
- 32:53Speaker 1: and that we show people that we were here and
- 32:55Speaker 1: they're queer elders exist. You know. Also one of the
- 32:58Speaker 1: mind folks Mismade her. She was a prominent activists of
- 33:03Speaker 1: that time as well, and she recently had a baby.
- 33:05Speaker 1: She's like with her partner, and she's in her late
- 33:08Speaker 1: seventies and she's like literally walking history. So like, remember
- 33:13Speaker 1: to uplift queer transfolks all year round and also pay
- 33:16Speaker 1: respect to your elder as they've been doing it for
- 33:18Speaker 1: a lot longer than we have and that a lot
- 33:20Speaker 1: of us have. So on that note, happy Pride month,
- 33:24Speaker 1: Let's do the ship all year round. Yes, happy Pride
- 33:27Speaker 1: and even I don't know if if Bambi se say
- 33:30Speaker 1: though identifies as an elder, if she would be mad
- 33:32Speaker 1: if we labeled her that. But I think that she's
- 33:34Speaker 1: a queer elder. You know, there's a lot, there's quite
- 33:36Speaker 1: a few who are very and who are and who
- 33:39Speaker 1: are very active and like online, who are are you know,
- 33:43Speaker 1: out there invisible maybe like a contemporary like I think
- 33:47Speaker 1: of Raquel Willis as like a contemporary like activists, she is,
- 33:52Speaker 1: like she someone I see as will be an elder
- 33:56Speaker 1: you know, Um, yeah, I think of Janet Mark Liver,
- 34:00Speaker 1: our dear friend cast of Pose, the cast post, I
- 34:03Speaker 1: mean our dear friends at the Gumaton Collective. Now that
- 34:05Speaker 1: we're talking about peers and contemporaries, you know, all the
- 34:09Speaker 1: folks at Theatone Collective and m We've had Julio Slado
- 34:13Speaker 1: on the podcast. We will have DJ Sizzle Fantastic on
- 34:16Speaker 1: the podcast. We actually, Surprise Surprise, just wrapped up an
- 34:19Speaker 1: interview with Sizzle, so you can expect to hear that
- 34:23Speaker 1: in the coming weeks. Um. Yeah, just go through the
- 34:28Speaker 1: look at the canon and you will find all of
- 34:31Speaker 1: our contemporaries. Yes, um, there are some queer elders that
- 34:34Speaker 1: I've been wanting to interview for a while now, and
- 34:37Speaker 1: so you know, hopefully that's something we can work on
- 34:39Speaker 1: this season, if not for its own project as well,
- 34:42Speaker 1: because documentation archival work is really important to us, and
- 34:47Speaker 1: that's that's one way that we can make sure that
- 34:49Speaker 1: Fox remember we were here. Yeah. Oh, Bay Davis recently
- 34:53Speaker 1: had to write up in the l like a front pager.
- 34:57Speaker 1: It looks like with the Mongus picture. Shout out by Davis,
- 35:01Speaker 1: shout out by Davis who is glowing and killing it
- 35:04Speaker 1: all over the place. So yeah, it's been you know,
- 35:08Speaker 1: it's been a weird Pride month just because of what's
- 35:11Speaker 1: going on in the world and globally. Um, there's been
- 35:15Speaker 1: a lot of interesting chatter about Pride month online and
- 35:18Speaker 1: about Kink and King get Pride and pride Speaking of
- 35:24Speaker 1: queer there's so much that we have learned from the
- 35:28Speaker 1: King community, and you need to put respect on their names. Okay, yeah,
- 35:34Speaker 1: where would we be without kink? Where would I be
- 35:37Speaker 1: without King? We love King, We are kinky, you know
- 35:43Speaker 1: what you mean? So I mean something that I learned
- 35:46Speaker 1: this month because of this conversation of no King at
- 35:50Speaker 1: Pride was that it was folks in the King community
- 35:54Speaker 1: that did a lot of the caregiving for folks that
- 35:56Speaker 1: we're living with HIV and AIDS. So not only they
- 36:01Speaker 1: do they deserve respect, but they are literally fundament That
- 36:04Speaker 1: community specifically is like fundamental and an important integral part
- 36:08Speaker 1: of our community history. Uh. And so if you're new
- 36:13Speaker 1: to queer history, like start what's your basics? Like everybody's
- 36:17Speaker 1: got to learn somewhere, um, but just remember where we've
- 36:21Speaker 1: been and like it helps us to shape where we're
- 36:24Speaker 1: going facts, facts, facts, sex, especially as we see history
- 36:29Speaker 1: really does repeat itself, and especially when it comes to
- 36:31Speaker 1: things like policy and human rights, because at any given moment,
- 36:36Speaker 1: they and you know that they, you know who the
- 36:39Speaker 1: they is, they are actively constantly trying to dismantle and
- 36:44Speaker 1: undo all of our civil rights, um and bodily autonomy
- 36:49Speaker 1: and ownership of ourselves and our decisions as women, as
- 36:54Speaker 1: Latin X people, as queer people, as people of color,
- 36:58Speaker 1: all of the above, the whole thing, right, So just
- 37:00Speaker 1: as people, and if we know like how it's worked
- 37:05Speaker 1: before and why we're at where we're at, we can
- 37:08Speaker 1: also like see the signs and see when they're doing
- 37:10Speaker 1: it again and see when they're they're actively trying to
- 37:14Speaker 1: function up even more than it already is. So yeah,
- 37:17Speaker 1: thank you guys for listening. This has been a lovely,
- 37:20Speaker 1: lovely episode. I think we have some thank yous right
- 37:25Speaker 1: that we have to give out to our funders absolutely,
- 37:29Speaker 1: so before we go, we want to thank Anna Gabriel's see,
- 37:35Speaker 1: Alexandra Sera, Vanessa Thompson, Jasmine Brian, Julianna, Samantha Lopez, Samantha Carcamo,
- 37:44Speaker 1: and a Maya. Thank you so much, for contributing to
- 37:48Speaker 1: our campaign, for believing and look at that our productions.
- 37:52Speaker 1: We could not do this without you. This has been
- 37:55Speaker 1: another episode. Make sure that you comment, you rate, you share,
- 37:59Speaker 1: give us a like, give us a follow. You know
- 38:02Speaker 1: the Drillas Radio Radio Radio commis a myth and bullshit,
- 38:21Speaker 1: a radio phonic novella local radio hosted by Malamnos and
