- 0:08Speaker 1: Welcome to The Favorites, the podcast presented by BET three
- 0:11Speaker 1: sixty five. We are part of the Action Network. I
- 0:14Speaker 1: am Chad Mooman, Chief Content Officer of the Action Network.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Every year, every year the show gets loads of listener questions.
- 0:23Speaker 1: Today is the first part of our two part annual
- 0:26Speaker 1: Summer mailbag episode where we answer your questions and shed
- 0:31Speaker 1: light on the men behind these microphones. That's right, it's
- 0:36Speaker 1: me and the other man behind the mic my co host,
- 0:40Speaker 1: my companion, Michael Padre might be a bad professional better
- 0:43Speaker 1: Simon Hunter.
- 0:45Speaker 2: Hell, oh, so I'm in Hello Chad.
- 0:48Speaker 1: I'm always tickled by some of these questions because they
- 0:50Speaker 1: actually make us think about things that are I never
- 0:55Speaker 1: would have thought of, and that can be somewhat tortuous.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Torturous when I think about the in the context in
- 1:01Speaker 1: which they're asked. So I'm excited to get to these
- 1:04Speaker 1: As a reminder, the Favorites podcast is presented by Bet
- 1:07Speaker 1: three six five. Bet three six five doesn't do ordinary.
- 1:10Speaker 1: That's why you get more boosts with them than with
- 1:12Speaker 1: anyone else. Every day they powered the odds one hundreds
- 1:15Speaker 1: of bets to give you a chance to win more.
- 1:17Speaker 1: Bet three six five boost specific markets, your winnings and
- 1:19Speaker 1: even parlays, and they don't stop there, keeping out for
- 1:22Speaker 1: their biggest and best odds with the incredible super boost.
- 1:26Speaker 1: Check out the boos and see why it's never ordinary.
- 1:28Speaker 1: A bet three six five must be twenty one or
- 1:30Speaker 1: older and present in Arizona, Colorado, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, North Carolina,
- 1:35Speaker 1: New Jersey, Ohio, Virginia, or eighteen and older in Kentucky.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Gambling problem called one eight hundred gambler or one eight
- 1:41Speaker 1: hundred bets off in Iowa terms. Conditioned restrictions apply. Every
- 1:46Speaker 1: episode of The Favorites is live on YouTube. For those
- 1:48Speaker 1: enjoying on YouTube, give us a like, subscribe to the
- 1:50Speaker 1: Action at Work YouTube page. All right, first question up, Simon.
- 1:53Speaker 1: This come up a lot, and we've dedicated this podcast
- 1:57Speaker 1: this offseason to really being as NFL heavy as possible,
- 2:02Speaker 1: and one of the reasons is because there's more betting
- 2:05Speaker 1: activity and more opportunities to bet on NFL than ever before. Simon,
- 2:10Speaker 1: from your point of view, how has early NFL markets
- 2:14Speaker 1: changed in the past five years? How have your own
- 2:17Speaker 1: preseason sort of summer betting activities changed. Bigger bets, earlier bets,
- 2:21Speaker 1: fewer bets all that.
- 2:25Speaker 2: It's definitely changed that.
- 2:26Speaker 3: I mean, everything's changed, so it's really hard to even
- 2:30Speaker 3: specific one thing. But the biggest one is just back
- 2:33Speaker 3: in the day, the NFL schedule would come out and
- 2:35Speaker 3: if you are lucky, you might get three four games
- 2:37Speaker 3: to bet on for the first week or two, and
- 2:41Speaker 3: then maybe one book would put out Week one lines
- 2:44Speaker 3: and the other ones would follow the next couple of weeks.
- 2:46Speaker 3: So yeah, by maybe mid July, after the NBA season
- 2:50Speaker 3: was over, we had a bunch of you know, Week one,
- 2:52Speaker 3: Week two, and a couple other week's lines up. Now
- 2:55Speaker 3: you could bet week sixteen, seventeen, you know, three days
- 2:58Speaker 3: after the schedule was released. Just been a really big
- 3:01Speaker 3: change in that sense. And yeah, the books, you know,
- 3:04Speaker 3: they're not gonna take more than a thousand dollars at
- 3:07Speaker 3: a time on a bet right now. But I can
- 3:11Speaker 3: go and bet that game as many times as I want,
- 3:13Speaker 3: Like you can get the ten thousand you want down,
- 3:15Speaker 3: you just have to do it broken up.
- 3:18Speaker 2: So that's a.
- 3:19Speaker 3: Little different then during the regular season. But Chad knows
- 3:22Speaker 3: the first week is a really important week to someone
- 3:25Speaker 3: like me and what I do where it's it's a
- 3:27Speaker 3: week where I'm able to get money down for you know,
- 3:31Speaker 3: three months, and it's really about opinions that aren't gonna
- 3:35Speaker 3: change that much, right Like, I'm not gonna just bet
- 3:38Speaker 3: on teams that I'm kind of unsure what they're gonna
- 3:42Speaker 3: be like or what the future is like. Right Like,
- 3:44Speaker 3: you're not gonna catch me putting six figures down on
- 3:45Speaker 3: the Carolina Panthers.
- 3:46Speaker 2: It's just I.
- 3:47Speaker 3: Don't care if that number was seven and a half
- 3:49Speaker 3: against the Saints. It's like, I just I just couldn't.
- 3:52Speaker 3: I couldn't bring myself to do it, to be honest.
- 3:54Speaker 3: But there's other teams where I am heavily invested future wise,
- 4:00Speaker 3: so already going in my value, my model has a
- 4:02Speaker 3: high value on them, and I would just continuously hit
- 4:04Speaker 3: that number throughout the summer, and you know, sometimes that
- 4:09Speaker 3: could be bad if we step in it, like we
- 4:11Speaker 3: did last year. I was really heavily bet on Houston
- 4:14Speaker 3: week one against the Ravens. They got smacked. I mean,
- 4:17Speaker 3: my heart, my motto, and my idea was in the
- 4:19Speaker 3: right place, right, Houston was much better than the public received,
- 4:22Speaker 3: just not in Week one, and that was a week
- 4:23Speaker 3: I was heavily invested in Chad. So, yeah, the game
- 4:26Speaker 3: has changed where it's easier to get money down on
- 4:30Speaker 3: week one and you know it's more accessible, But overall,
- 4:35Speaker 3: has it really changed at the basis of it. No,
- 4:37Speaker 3: like the week one is so very important week, just
- 4:39Speaker 3: like you know, the Super Bowl, because I can get
- 4:41Speaker 3: a ton of money down without really getting kicked out
- 4:44Speaker 3: of the book or getting rejected by the books.
- 4:46Speaker 2: They're happy to take week one money.
- 4:48Speaker 1: But it is interesting when you talk about the futures
- 4:50Speaker 1: and things like that. I do think that there are
- 4:53Speaker 1: more operators offering more markets earlier than there have ever been,
- 4:58Speaker 1: So it's so thing. I actually think you've got to
- 5:02Speaker 1: be incredibly disciplined not to fire away on everything you
- 5:07Speaker 1: see all throughout the five months before the season actually begins,
- 5:14Speaker 1: because so much can change. But you're seeing numbers that
- 5:16Speaker 1: are just out of whack, and you want to get
- 5:18Speaker 1: the jump on what you think is the best value.
- 5:20Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm sure.
- 5:21Speaker 3: Remember, I mean Cooper Cup went down, I couldn't. I
- 5:23Speaker 3: could barely speak for two days because I was so
- 5:26Speaker 3: invested in the rams and I was just like I
- 5:29Speaker 3: just a little pile of money off fire. I mean,
- 5:30Speaker 3: I really did not see Puka Nakua being my savior.
- 5:34Speaker 3: So it's just a good That's why I try to
- 5:36Speaker 3: tell people like, because people always like, why don't you
- 5:38Speaker 3: worried about someone might get hurt. It's like, you can't
- 5:41Speaker 3: really think that way because at the end of the
- 5:42Speaker 3: day it might not even matter. Obviously, if Stafford gets hurt, yeah,
- 5:47Speaker 3: that's that's a dead bet. But no one here can
- 5:49Speaker 3: bet like that. No one here can bet thinking what
- 5:52Speaker 3: if the quarterback it hurts, because you'll never make any bets, right, yeah.
- 5:55Speaker 1: Right, no, that's right, totally right. We've both spoken about
- 5:59Speaker 1: the increasingly complicated viewing model for the NFL. To ensure
- 6:06Speaker 1: access to every game, fans need access to more services
- 6:09Speaker 1: than ever before at an increasing place price. If the
- 6:11Speaker 1: alternative was a single platform, all or nothing solution, how
- 6:16Speaker 1: much would you be pilling willing to pay for one
- 6:19Speaker 1: hundred percent of NFL games. I've got a pretty specific number.
- 6:24Speaker 1: I don't know what your number is.
- 6:25Speaker 2: Well, should we tell the people chat it's it's nine
- 6:28Speaker 2: to ninety nine.
- 6:28Speaker 3: Me chat had it last year in the NFL app So,
- 6:32Speaker 3: I mean, I'm not going to reinvent the wheeler for
- 6:34Speaker 3: you people. You just get the NFL app. You get
- 6:37Speaker 3: an adapter into your phone or your iPad, do you
- 6:39Speaker 3: hook it up to your TV. You can watch every game.
- 6:43Speaker 3: I'm not even getting you every I mean we had
- 6:45Speaker 3: Red Zone on there, we had every Primetime game.
- 6:49Speaker 2: We had it on our phones. So the only deal
- 6:52Speaker 2: is you can't get it.
- 6:53Speaker 3: On your TV, right, Like, there's certain laws where I
- 6:56Speaker 3: guess through Ruku they can't let the NFL broadcast ESPN
- 6:59Speaker 3: game NBC games. But for some reason, if it's on
- 7:01Speaker 3: your phone or an iPad, you can hook it up
- 7:04Speaker 3: to your TV and you can. I know again, it's
- 7:05Speaker 3: not gonna be the best quality, but it's ninety ninety nine,
- 7:08Speaker 3: Like one hundred dollars. You can get every NFL game.
- 7:13Speaker 1: I'll do it for eighty nine ninety nine. If you
- 7:15Speaker 1: do it for the year like I did, I was.
- 7:16Speaker 3: Gonna say I'd spend ten thousand if they said this
- 7:19Speaker 3: is the only way you can watch all the NFL games, Like, yeah,
- 7:22Speaker 3: I'm gonna need it for my job, but as a
- 7:24Speaker 3: fan of the sport to see my Eagles, I might
- 7:28Speaker 3: be right there, like my team's really good. If I
- 7:30Speaker 3: if my team sucked, no, I would not be paying
- 7:32Speaker 3: anywhere close to that money, because it's like, why am
- 7:35Speaker 3: I paying to see the like the worst experience ever?
- 7:38Speaker 3: But if my team was really good, I'd do it.
- 7:40Speaker 3: If not, yeah, I would just I'd go to the
- 7:42Speaker 3: bars on the weekends, right, just get a drink and
- 7:45Speaker 3: watch the games for free. Not spending crazy money here.
- 7:47Speaker 3: But yeah, to me, it's just there's no limit. I'm
- 7:51Speaker 3: like me and Chad Me, I feel like we're the
- 7:53Speaker 3: rare exceptions. I just I need football. I love it
- 7:55Speaker 3: so much. I would pay whatever they want me.
- 7:57Speaker 1: To pay there. I honestly feel like they have such
- 8:00Speaker 1: a captive market. I actually was going to say ten
- 8:04Speaker 1: thousand and two, but I wanted to be realistic, so
- 8:08Speaker 1: I was going to say five thousand and to me,
- 8:12Speaker 1: you know, it's funny when when my wife and I
- 8:16Speaker 1: moved from New York City to the suburbs in Montclair,
- 8:22Speaker 1: New Jersey, we were living in a one and a
- 8:27Speaker 1: half bedroom apartment with a three year old or two
- 8:30Speaker 1: year old, and we moved to a house in the
- 8:32Speaker 1: suburbs and the first thing we did, first thing that
- 8:36Speaker 1: I did, and flat screen wall hanging TVs back then
- 8:42Speaker 1: were not five hundred dollars. They were like four or
- 8:44Speaker 1: five brands. The first thing I bought, and it's the
- 8:47Speaker 1: first thing I had installed. And we were driving one
- 8:51Speaker 1: night and my wife said, I really, She said she
- 8:53Speaker 1: really wanted to get an alarm system for the house.
- 8:57Speaker 1: And I didn't grow up with an alarm system. And
- 8:58Speaker 1: then I moved to the city and like, you don't
- 9:01Speaker 1: have alarms on your apartment. We didn't at the time.
- 9:05Speaker 2: That's the old school alarm system.
- 9:07Speaker 1: You know. But like where I grew up in the sumburbs,
- 9:10Speaker 1: I didn't have an alarm system. I don't even get
- 9:11Speaker 1: me either. But my wife, who grew up in Staten Island,
- 9:14Speaker 1: like they definitely had an alarm system. And I'm like,
- 9:18Speaker 1: I don't want to spend for an alarm system. And
- 9:20Speaker 1: she says to me, she goes, you know the TV
- 9:22Speaker 1: you just bought, and how important it was to you,
- 9:24Speaker 1: and like that is giving you a sense of happiness
- 9:29Speaker 1: that you cannot describe and put a price on. I'm like, yeah,
- 9:32Speaker 1: she goes, that's the alarm system for me, and like
- 9:37Speaker 1: there are some things that are going to be so
- 9:39Speaker 1: valuable to your well being you cannot put a price
- 9:43Speaker 1: on them. So I'd pay whatever it takes I love
- 9:45Speaker 1: the NFL. It's part of our livelihood, it's part of
- 9:47Speaker 1: what we do. It brings me so much joy. I
- 9:50Speaker 1: don't give a fuck charge me. I'm happy to to
- 9:53Speaker 1: like get completely taken advantage of.
- 9:56Speaker 3: Yeah, I think it was the same as me if
- 9:58Speaker 3: I wasn't getting paid.
- 10:00Speaker 2: Still think this would be my number one sport.
- 10:02Speaker 3: Like I do enjoy baseball, I do enjoy basketball and
- 10:05Speaker 3: soccer European soccer, but it's not even close to my
- 10:10Speaker 3: obsession with football.
- 10:12Speaker 1: If you could own simon a single sports franchise in
- 10:17Speaker 1: North America, what would it be? I know what it
- 10:22Speaker 1: would be.
- 10:22Speaker 3: I'll try not to do the Philadelphia thing because it's
- 10:26Speaker 3: so lame and at my core, Like, yeah, obviously it'd
- 10:29Speaker 3: be the Eagles, like they're my favorite team. I love
- 10:31Speaker 3: them so much. It's either of them are Man United.
- 10:33Speaker 3: I know we're staying North America, So for me, if
- 10:36Speaker 3: I'm just gonna go, what would be the coolest life,
- 10:39Speaker 3: It's gotta be the Lakers. Like you buy the team,
- 10:42Speaker 3: you get to sit court side like you're just the man,
- 10:46Speaker 3: Like you are the man and people know who you are.
- 10:49Speaker 3: Who cares if you're the man in Milwaukee, like it's
- 10:52Speaker 3: just it's different.
- 10:53Speaker 2: We're in LA.
- 10:54Speaker 1: By the way, Matt Mitchell cares about being the man
- 10:57Speaker 1: in Milwaukee.
- 10:58Speaker 3: He knows what I mean, though, who you you Robin
- 11:01Speaker 3: elbows with in Milwaukee compared it to La Like, LA
- 11:05Speaker 3: just that's where the stars go. So if you're into
- 11:08Speaker 3: that lifestyle, like you want to be around the most
- 11:10Speaker 3: beautiful people in a city that gets what three hundred
- 11:13Speaker 3: days of sunshine out of the year, it's LA like.
- 11:16Speaker 2: That's that's always going to be the move.
- 11:20Speaker 3: I'm trying to think of another team that even comes
- 11:22Speaker 3: close to it, but I really can't.
- 11:24Speaker 1: Well, you're not wrong. Look the Lakers. One of the
- 11:29Speaker 1: five greatest sporting events I've ever been to is the
- 11:35Speaker 1: first game of the Lakers Celtics Finals. I think it
- 11:39Speaker 1: was two thousand and nine, and it was a series
- 11:45Speaker 1: where the Lakers won. They played back to back. I
- 11:47Speaker 1: think the Celtics won a series, the Lakers won a series.
- 11:51Speaker 1: The electricity in that stadium as an event is unparalleled.
- 11:57Speaker 1: It's just so exciting and thrilling and to be a
- 12:03Speaker 1: part of it. If you were owning that team, it's
- 12:05Speaker 1: always going to be a marquee franchise. It's always going
- 12:07Speaker 1: to be the franchise that every great player wants to
- 12:10Speaker 1: go to. You are never going to be lacking in
- 12:14Speaker 1: getting people to go to that franchise. I think that's
- 12:19Speaker 1: that's a great one for me. It's the Bears, and
- 12:23Speaker 1: I know it's a it's a Homer choice, but I'm
- 12:28Speaker 1: thinking about it. Actually, Economically, the Bears have been terrible
- 12:33Speaker 1: for so long, and I truly believe part of that
- 12:37Speaker 1: is because of the ownership, and I believe they have
- 12:41Speaker 1: not magic my standards.
- 12:43Speaker 2: You're saying, you guys have been terrible so long.
- 12:44Speaker 3: You went to a super Bowl fifteen years ago, Like
- 12:47Speaker 3: I know, playing a franchise that would take that deal.
- 12:49Speaker 2: But I get it. I get it.
- 12:52Speaker 1: A it was seventeen years ago, and be how many
- 12:57Speaker 1: more should we have been to? But we have consistently
- 13:00Speaker 1: made bad personnel executive decisions for generations, right. I think
- 13:08Speaker 1: we have been lucky in how we've been able to
- 13:13Speaker 1: win as often as we have, at least in the
- 13:16Speaker 1: regular hard division and a hard division. And I also
- 13:19Speaker 1: think this team is it doesn't reach its revenue potential
- 13:25Speaker 1: because of bad deals with the stadium as it stands now,
- 13:29Speaker 1: because of how the team is marketed. This team should
- 13:33Speaker 1: be as popular as the Cowboys. This team should be
- 13:35Speaker 1: as popular as the Packers. Like it is a franchise
- 13:38Speaker 1: that is one of the original NFL franchises that is
- 13:41Speaker 1: always considered to be a public team, So the fact
- 13:44Speaker 1: that it doesn't sort of have the same franchise value
- 13:47Speaker 1: is a lot of other NFL franchises. To me, it
- 13:50Speaker 1: feels like there's room to grow and it needs someone
- 13:53Speaker 1: like me in charge of it.
- 13:55Speaker 2: I love it.
- 13:56Speaker 1: That's it. That's the bottom line. Summertime is a great

- 15:18Speaker 1: to know how is Scooch? Longtime listeners demanded Bob Scoccy update.
- 15:24Speaker 1: Scooch is fantastic. Scooch has a Scooch has a great life.
- 15:29Speaker 1: He's still an executive at Boyd Gaming in Las Vegas.
- 15:32Speaker 1: When the Super Bowl was in Vegas that Friday night,
- 15:37Speaker 1: me Joelopo, Bob Scucci went out and it was freaking glorious.
- 15:45Speaker 1: We went to Joe Stone Crab at Caesar's. You know
- 15:47Speaker 1: Joe Lupo For those who don't know, Joe Loopo and
- 15:51Speaker 1: Bob Scuccy were the original bookmaker were book makers at
- 15:53Speaker 1: the Startus Hotel when I wrote the Odds So They
- 15:57Speaker 1: were two of the three main characters in my book,
- 15:59Speaker 1: along with Alan Boston, who is a professional better. Joe
- 16:03Speaker 1: and Scoot should become two very close friends who I
- 16:06Speaker 1: have kept in touch with for twenty five years since
- 16:09Speaker 1: the book came out. And Joe now runs the Mirage,
- 16:12Speaker 1: which is being converted into the hard Rock Hotel. And
- 16:16Speaker 1: I walked around with Joe at the Mirage and it's
- 16:20Speaker 1: almost like people were asking him to kiss their ring.
- 16:22Speaker 1: Like he walked around. He was so magnanimous. He's beloved
- 16:27Speaker 1: as the CEO. It's going to be a really interesting
- 16:31Speaker 1: time because they're shutting down the casino to convert it
- 16:34Speaker 1: into being the hard Rock Hotel.
- 16:36Speaker 2: And one of those guys he shook Sinatra's hand.
- 16:40Speaker 1: Dude, I think Sinatra wanted to shake his hand. And so, yeah,
- 16:47Speaker 1: I'm still close with those guys. They're doing fantastic. Uh So,
- 16:52Speaker 1: I'm glad we got.
- 16:53Speaker 2: To get Bob on some random time. It's always fun
- 16:55Speaker 2: when he jumps on.
- 16:56Speaker 1: We'll get him on before football season, he said he
- 16:58Speaker 1: would do it. I want to get him both to
- 16:59Speaker 1: come on. It would be really fun to get them
- 17:02Speaker 1: both to come on. Of all the normal events that
- 17:06Speaker 1: take place in a game. I'm gonna I'm gonna amend
- 17:12Speaker 1: this question a little bit. What's your favorite way to
- 17:15Speaker 1: win a bet? Walk off, touchdown, empty net, go kneel
- 17:19Speaker 1: down to win, miss free throws. Let's answer that one first,
- 17:23Speaker 1: man first, but I'm going to ask what's your worst
- 17:25Speaker 1: way to lose a bet?
- 17:28Speaker 3: Oh worst way has definitely got to be the blown leads.
- 17:32Speaker 3: Like if you have a team of two touchdowns or
- 17:35Speaker 3: three touchdowns at halftime, and in your mind you're already
- 17:39Speaker 3: allocating that money before you even have it, Like what
- 17:42Speaker 3: we're gonna do with that money once you get it,
- 17:43Speaker 3: either in that game, when the night game, or doing
- 17:46Speaker 3: some liventer or whatever with it. Like there are a few,
- 17:49Speaker 3: especially when I first started out, there were a few
- 17:51Speaker 3: worse feelings than I've already spent allocated money I didn't
- 17:55Speaker 3: even have because my team's up twenty points, So that
- 17:58Speaker 3: that's definitely to me, the worst way where it's like
- 18:01Speaker 3: I just losing has even crossed my mind. I've already
- 18:04Speaker 3: won and spent that money, and an hour later it
- 18:08Speaker 3: has totally gone, So that that's what's your worst That
- 18:10Speaker 3: to me is the worst.
- 18:11Speaker 1: Well, by the way, I love how this is classic
- 18:15Speaker 1: better mentality. I frame the question positively and you immediately
- 18:22Speaker 1: go to the negative. Yes, because yeah, because nobody who
- 18:26Speaker 1: bets ever remembers the great ways they won. You only
- 18:29Speaker 1: remember the excruciating ways they lost.
- 18:32Speaker 2: Don't you don't You don't learn from winning, brother, No.
- 18:35Speaker 1: You learn nothing. I'm going to give you a very
- 18:37Speaker 1: very specific answer. Perfect. The worst way to lose is
- 18:45Speaker 1: when your team, which is covering, is on defense. The
- 18:53Speaker 1: other team is driving, but you have found a way
- 18:56Speaker 1: to stop them, and on third and twenty seven there
- 19:01Speaker 1: is a roughing the passer or a pass interference that
- 19:05Speaker 1: gets them a little bit closer, and they decide they're
- 19:09Speaker 1: going to kick a field goal because then they can
- 19:12Speaker 1: get an on side kick and potentially tie the game
- 19:15Speaker 1: because they need to get one of two things, a
- 19:17Speaker 1: field goal. They need two things, a field goal and
- 19:20Speaker 1: a touchdown, and they decide to go for the field
- 19:22Speaker 1: goal first, and they only got there because of a
- 19:26Speaker 1: miracle penalty on a long shot. Play love it. That's
- 19:32Speaker 1: a very specific yet yeah happens more often than you think. Play.
- 19:37Speaker 1: I bet that will happen to us four or five
- 19:40Speaker 1: times this year, given right.
- 19:43Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:44Speaker 1: Uh, best way to win a game.
- 19:46Speaker 3: My favorite's always going to be if I'm on a
- 19:49Speaker 3: dog and they're not covering and I had the two
- 19:52Speaker 3: minute drill and either I'm about to win it outright
- 19:54Speaker 3: or cover the number. I just love a good two
- 19:57Speaker 3: minute drill and footblack. To me, it's like, it's why
- 20:00Speaker 3: I love the sport so much. If you have a
- 20:02Speaker 3: quarterback that could run the two minute, it's just the
- 20:05Speaker 3: cheat code. And I think it's just because when I
- 20:07Speaker 3: was a younger, I was obsessed, especially when I played
- 20:10Speaker 3: a lot of Madam with the Peyton Manning before games,
- 20:13Speaker 3: when he would practice with Dallas Clark and Reggie White
- 20:16Speaker 3: and they would do these two minute drills. I just
- 20:18Speaker 3: became enamored with the whole prospect that it was all scripted.
- 20:22Speaker 3: They'd already ran those plays a thousand times. A guy
- 20:25Speaker 3: standing out there might as well has been trash cans
- 20:27Speaker 3: like they were playing against air, because that's how perfect
- 20:30Speaker 3: Manning woul run that two minute drill. And then Tom
- 20:32Speaker 3: Brady came and just took it to another level. Now
- 20:34Speaker 3: we're seeing it with my homes. It's just as a
- 20:36Speaker 3: better Like that Super Bowl Chad was my That's like
- 20:39Speaker 3: my dream, like him driving down the field at the
- 20:42Speaker 3: end of the game and we are on the right side.
- 20:45Speaker 3: It's nothing better because it's about it's like five ten minutes.
- 20:48Speaker 3: Because the commercials of just like ah uh, this is
- 20:51Speaker 3: the best, Oh, fourth and one, Mahomes sneak up the
- 20:53Speaker 3: side first down, like the two minute drill to win
- 20:56Speaker 3: it all a big bet is just there's nothing like it.
- 21:00Speaker 1: Well, look, not only that, but that was the exact
- 21:03Speaker 1: reason why we decided that right Chiefs. We said, the
- 21:07Speaker 1: Chiefs are going to have the ball last. We're going
- 21:09Speaker 1: to want it in Patrick Mahomes's hands to win the game,
- 21:12Speaker 1: and that'll be the difference in the spread. It played
- 21:14Speaker 1: exactly as we expected it to. It's cool that you
- 21:17Speaker 1: say that about Bray, about Manning and then Brady because
- 21:22Speaker 1: Julian Edelman on his Games with Names podcast had Cooper
- 21:26Speaker 1: Cup on and he told the story about how when
- 21:29Speaker 1: he would go to practice with Brady in the offseason.
- 21:32Speaker 1: The Cooper Cup was saying, would you practice running the
- 21:35Speaker 1: route tree or whatever? I don't know. It was like, nope,
- 21:37Speaker 1: two minutes. That's it. All practice, It's all that matters.
- 21:41Speaker 1: It's all that we did was practice. Two minutes. Real,
- 21:44Speaker 1: that's really, I agree with you. My favorite way to
- 21:46Speaker 1: win a game is when I'm the opposite side of
- 21:50Speaker 1: the scenario that I said is my worst way to
- 21:52Speaker 1: lose a game. I've got the team at third and
- 21:54Speaker 1: twenty seven, I got no chance to win, and we
- 21:56Speaker 1: eke out the cover because someone makes a terrible play
- 22:00Speaker 1: defense and we get a cheap, cheap cover. Simon, if
- 22:08Speaker 1: you and I did a cannonball run, oh God, across
- 22:12Speaker 1: the country reference to the nineteen seventies Burt Reynolds movie
- 22:17Speaker 1: From New York City to Redondo Beach? Who is driving?
- 22:23Speaker 1: How do you split up the drive? Would you like
- 22:26Speaker 1: each other more or less by the end of the trip.
- 22:28Speaker 1: I have very specific answers for this, but I would
- 22:31Speaker 1: like to hear yours.
- 22:33Speaker 2: Well, there's two things, is Chad, are you willing to do.
- 22:35Speaker 1: Meth of course I do it every day.
- 22:38Speaker 3: Okay, then we could get this done. I think it's
- 22:40Speaker 3: the fastest it can be done is like three and
- 22:41Speaker 3: a half days. I mean, we can do this in
- 22:43Speaker 3: what forty eight hours, breaking tons of laws. But now
- 22:47Speaker 3: that that would honestly test our relationship like any other,
- 22:51Speaker 3: just because I am I'm historically a very good driver.
- 22:57Speaker 3: Chad knows I drive across country. Last year when we
- 22:59Speaker 3: were doing our show, I drove from here to LA
- 23:02Speaker 3: and then ship my.
- 23:02Speaker 2: Car to Hawaii. And what I learned.
- 23:07Speaker 3: In that drive is it's just a lot of nothing, Chad.
- 23:09Speaker 3: Most of this country, I would say, from Indianapolis to
- 23:13Speaker 3: Oklahoma was just nothing, really in my opinion. So my
- 23:18Speaker 3: view of it was I'd have no problem rotating with you.
- 23:20Speaker 3: It's just I don't are you okay with breaking the
- 23:23Speaker 3: lawlestary like I'm from New Jersey, New Jersey, the speed
- 23:25Speaker 3: limits twenty over like, I don't know how it is
- 23:27Speaker 3: of Connecticut.
- 23:28Speaker 2: But I think we'd work all right. Chad would get.
- 23:31Speaker 3: Us on his part alive and I would keep us
- 23:33Speaker 3: on the edge of death. But I'd make up a
- 23:35Speaker 3: ton of time.
- 23:38Speaker 1: You're talking to a man who, for five straight years
- 23:41Speaker 1: rented an RV which I had never drone.
- 23:44Speaker 3: Official record, sorry, Chad, official record twenty five hours and
- 23:47Speaker 3: thirty nine minutes. And they did it with what looked
- 23:51Speaker 3: like a cop car during COVID so there's no people
- 23:53Speaker 3: on the roads.
- 23:54Speaker 1: Doesn't count. I rented an RV for five straight years
- 23:59Speaker 1: and drove my family along with my best friend and
- 24:02Speaker 1: his family. They had an RV we would caravan. We
- 24:05Speaker 1: literally drove through snaking roads into Death Valley in the
- 24:11Speaker 1: middle of a windstorm at eleven thirty at night, where
- 24:15Speaker 1: the highways were just reopened because the winds had dropped
- 24:19Speaker 1: just below the level that was officially safe. I have
- 24:23Speaker 1: driven an RV through New Mexico talk about nothing. It's
- 24:28Speaker 1: like you can't even get a radio station. You just
- 24:30Speaker 1: hit skin and it goes and goes and goes and goes.
- 24:36Speaker 1: I don't care about driving. I'd be perfectly comfortable driving.
- 24:40Speaker 1: It would not be a problem for me. I could
- 24:41Speaker 1: care less of you and I drive the whole time.
- 24:43Speaker 1: I will tell you right now it would not surprise
- 24:47Speaker 1: you to know this. The worst things get, the funnier
- 24:53Speaker 1: I find it, and the more I laugh. So I am.
- 24:58Speaker 1: My personality is tailor are made for long road trips
- 25:02Speaker 1: where everything goes.
- 25:07Speaker 2: Well.
- 25:08Speaker 3: I was gonna say you survived that story. I made
- 25:10Speaker 3: it somehow through a blizzard and a convertible with railroad
- 25:13Speaker 3: drive to the Grand Canyon. So I think both of us,
- 25:16Speaker 3: at the worst could survive in a certain situation.
- 25:19Speaker 1: Simon, I think we'd end up closer than ever I've
- 25:24Speaker 1: never had a road trip where I didn't end up
- 25:26Speaker 1: closer with someone than when we started I had.
- 25:29Speaker 2: I had a road trip that enited a friendship. So
- 25:31Speaker 2: it is hit or miss with me.
- 25:34Speaker 1: What is the worst piece of gambling or otherwise advice
- 25:41Speaker 1: you've ever received?
- 25:45Speaker 3: Uh, the worst advice I've ever received is play it
- 25:50Speaker 3: safe in life?
- 25:51Speaker 1: Ah?
- 25:52Speaker 2: What is that quote? Chad? A ship?
- 25:55Speaker 3: A ship can can flow into harbor, but a ship
- 25:57Speaker 3: wasn't meant to sit into harbor. So it's like, you
- 26:00Speaker 3: can play it safe in life. But I just think
- 26:03Speaker 3: we don't know what happens after this. You only get
- 26:05Speaker 3: one of these? Why not take risk? And I always
- 26:07Speaker 3: say if you fail, who cares? You're exactly where you
- 26:11Speaker 3: were before you attempted what you just attempted. So yeah,
- 26:14Speaker 3: the worst advice I ever had in life was the
- 26:16Speaker 3: school teacher was just like, you should play it safe
- 26:19Speaker 3: in life.
- 26:20Speaker 2: You should go to this school.
- 26:20Speaker 3: I forget what the hell it was, and I just
- 26:22Speaker 3: remember thinking, man, what an awful way to live life,
- 26:26Speaker 3: Like take risk. Eventually I'm gonna have to play it safe, right,
- 26:29Speaker 3: Like you'll have other people depending on you. I guess
- 26:31Speaker 3: that's when you can play it safe. But as a gambler,
- 26:34Speaker 3: I just I like taking risk. I like knowing the
- 26:37Speaker 3: odds and then taking the risk.
- 26:38Speaker 1: Chats you know, it's interesting. It's funny how people always
- 26:46Speaker 1: answer that question, oftentimes based on career what I mean, Like,
- 26:55Speaker 1: they don't answer that question based on No one told
- 26:58Speaker 1: me I shouldn't marry my wife, and I'm not sure.
- 27:03Speaker 2: It stood up at no one stood up when they
- 27:04Speaker 2: said as anyone.
- 27:07Speaker 1: No one stood up and was like, this is a
- 27:10Speaker 1: bad idea. But people are always telling you, telling anybody
- 27:15Speaker 1: to play it safe. I get anxious telling people that
- 27:21Speaker 1: they have to take the risk. I think you got
- 27:23Speaker 1: to take the risk if it's the right circumstance for you,
- 27:27Speaker 1: based on you're a comfort level with risk, based on
- 27:30Speaker 1: your family circumstances, based on the circumstances around you, and
- 27:36Speaker 1: the industry in which you want to be doing something.
- 27:39Speaker 1: I like to take calculated risks.
- 27:43Speaker 3: I do as well, but I also took risk that
- 27:45Speaker 3: were not calculated in it.
- 27:47Speaker 2: It worked out just.
- 27:48Speaker 3: Because again all of us have it intuition, your gut,
- 27:52Speaker 3: like people that, like I just said, people ask me
- 27:54Speaker 3: for advice and then the day that's what I kind
- 27:56Speaker 3: of say to them I'm like, I'll give you advice,
- 27:58Speaker 3: but you should just trust your gut. Like it's at
- 28:01Speaker 3: the end of the day, it's on you. You can't
- 28:02Speaker 3: just be like, well, Chad told me to do this,
- 28:05Speaker 3: and now it's his fault that it didn't work out.
- 28:06Speaker 3: It's just no, it's it's on you. So yeah, I'm
- 28:10Speaker 3: right there with jat Chad. It's definitely calculated.
- 28:12Speaker 1: Risk, but I also agree with you. You gotta fucking
- 28:16Speaker 1: own it at the end of the day. Like, if
- 28:18Speaker 1: you decide to do it, it's your call. It's your decision.
- 28:22Speaker 1: If it doesn't work out, you can't blame the person
- 28:24Speaker 1: whose advice you were taking. Simon, can you name the
- 28:27Speaker 1: fastest growing ticketing app in the United States?
- 28:30Speaker 2: Game Time?
- 28:32Speaker 1: That's right, it's game Time. I love game Time for
- 28:34Speaker 1: two reasons. First, they still sponsor this show. Second, I
- 28:37Speaker 1: use game Time all the time. They have amazing last
- 28:40Speaker 1: minute deals, including pro in college sports. I'm actually opening
- 28:44Speaker 1: the game Time app right now from my house here
- 28:47Speaker 1: in Connecticut. Guess what the hottest team in baseball The
- 28:49Speaker 1: New York Yankees. I can get into see them for
- 28:54Speaker 1: thirty bucks. No matter where you live. Download the game
- 28:58Speaker 1: Time app. Get out have some on this week, you

- 29:15Speaker 1: We are both, We both famously enjoy very different eating lifestyles.
- 29:22Speaker 1: Construct the worst possible meal for the other person right here,
- 29:29Speaker 1: right now? Are you ready? You want me to start?
- 29:31Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 29:34Speaker 1: I would. I'd make you breakfast. I would give you
- 29:38Speaker 1: a queen wah porridge, just some quen wha. You can
- 29:44Speaker 1: boil it in some water or maybe some coconut milk
- 29:48Speaker 1: if you like it a little bit sweeter. And then
- 29:50Speaker 1: I'd give you a nice slice of a legome loaf,
- 29:57Speaker 1: which is just legomes, basically boiled into mush and then
- 30:02Speaker 1: made into a loaf in like a loaf pan. And
- 30:05Speaker 1: I'd serve you some non dairy butter on top of that.
- 30:13Speaker 1: And then I think I would have you drink some
- 30:19Speaker 1: green tea with no added sweetener. And I probably wouldn't
- 30:25Speaker 1: even put the macha powder in there.
- 30:29Speaker 2: I don't even think i'd be able to get it down.
- 30:31Speaker 2: I don't even think i'd be able to swallow it.
- 30:34Speaker 1: I think that might be it could be what I
- 30:36Speaker 1: had for breakfast this morning.
- 30:39Speaker 2: Half those words, I don't even understand them. You would
- 30:44Speaker 2: be easy.
- 30:44Speaker 3: I feel like the easiest thing ever would just be
- 30:46Speaker 3: to put you into a candy store, like you know,
- 30:49Speaker 3: back in the day in the mall there those candy stores.
- 30:52Speaker 3: I'd put you in there and just watch you disintegrate.
- 30:55Speaker 3: But I was thinking, what would just what would be
- 30:57Speaker 3: the funnest thing to see you just get you sick
- 31:00Speaker 3: your stomach and I know that you're not enjoying it.
- 31:02Speaker 3: I would have to be taking to like a deep
- 31:04Speaker 3: South country kind of barbecue place where Chad's like, no,
- 31:09Speaker 3: I'd be happy to eat barbecue. But it's like now
- 31:10Speaker 3: I'm talking making you eat corn bread, the mac and cheese,
- 31:14Speaker 3: the grits and gravy, just mush it all together. That
- 31:17Speaker 3: it's just like a big pile of just meat thrown
- 31:19Speaker 3: in there and just making you eat all of that.
- 31:21Speaker 2: That would be pretty amazing to watch.
- 31:23Speaker 1: It would be like back in the day, and.
- 31:26Speaker 2: So you drinking a soda with it, that would just
- 31:27Speaker 2: all be shy.
- 31:28Speaker 1: Oh God, that like I honestly god, I saw Kanta
- 31:33Speaker 1: soda in our fridge this morning, and I was like,
- 31:35Speaker 1: what the fuck? Why would someone put hands of death
- 31:39Speaker 1: in the fridge? Like that is the worst thing for you.
- 31:43Speaker 1: I will say back in the day.
- 31:45Speaker 2: Mexican coke. Tho, if you're gonna drink soda, drink Mexican
- 31:47Speaker 2: Coca Cola. It's the best.
- 31:48Speaker 1: I would eat everything you just said. And today, yes,
- 31:52Speaker 1: that would be like my absolute worst nightmare.
- 31:56Speaker 3: Yeah, when was the last thing you actually had hartburn?
- 31:58Speaker 3: Like nineteen eighty five. I can just imagine you being
- 32:01Speaker 3: a kid and you ate a hot dog too fast
- 32:02Speaker 3: and you were like, well, last hot dog I'll ever eat?
- 32:06Speaker 1: I do, by the way, I totally do that. I
- 32:09Speaker 1: just decide, you know what, I've never eating this again.
- 32:12Speaker 1: And my wife will be like, does it have to
- 32:15Speaker 1: be all or nothing? Can't they just be like, you're
- 32:18Speaker 1: not going to have that as a regular part of
- 32:20Speaker 1: your diet, But like, does everything have to be so extreme?
- 32:23Speaker 1: As got to the points where like factor deliveries we
- 32:26Speaker 1: get I'm only getting veggie, that's it, and she's so
- 32:29Speaker 1: frustrated by it. All. Right, last question we got here.
- 32:32Speaker 1: A lot of recent super Bowl runners up have struggled
- 32:36Speaker 1: the following season, particularly those lacking transcending qbs. You have
- 32:42Speaker 1: San Francisco as the preseason number one in your power rankings. Ye,
- 32:46Speaker 1: Could San Francisco be headed for a hangover season, especially
- 32:51Speaker 1: in light of the challenging schedule, war and sharp outline
- 32:55Speaker 1: for us?
- 32:56Speaker 3: Oh, I would love it. I would love it. I
- 32:59Speaker 3: mean we've all been seen that crazy stat float around that.
- 33:02Speaker 3: I think it's the last fifteen or sixteen quarterbacks. I
- 33:04Speaker 3: made it to a Super Bowl and lost in their
- 33:07Speaker 3: first Super Bowl, never made it back. And on that
- 33:11Speaker 3: list right now is my guy, Jalen Hurts. I mean,
- 33:13Speaker 3: Joe Burrow is on that list. So it's a little scary, Chad,
- 33:18Speaker 3: because it just shows how hard it is to get back.
- 33:20Speaker 3: And you know, none of us get the time. Brady
- 33:24Speaker 3: and Mahomes, those are the unicorns, are the once in
- 33:26Speaker 3: every twenty year guys. The rest of us have to
- 33:29Speaker 3: dream to get the quarterback and then have the team
- 33:32Speaker 3: around it.
- 33:32Speaker 2: So, oh man, that's hard, Chad. I mean that's really hard.
- 33:38Speaker 3: The forty nine ers, I want to fade them, but
- 33:41Speaker 3: I already talked about it, like they didn't lose a
- 33:44Speaker 3: bunch of players to free agency. Right, they didn't lose Ayuk.
- 33:48Speaker 3: I mean their offensive line. Yeah, there might be a
- 33:51Speaker 3: couple of weaknesses there, but it's like it's a Kyle
- 33:53Speaker 3: Shanahan run blocking system. It's like you don't need to
- 33:56Speaker 3: be the best pass blocker to work in that system.
- 33:59Speaker 3: That's how great the system is. So it's just there's
- 34:02Speaker 3: nothing there to fade. Like. Their defense didn't get that
- 34:04Speaker 3: much worse, even think losing their defensive coordinator wasn't that
- 34:07Speaker 3: big good deal, and offensive wise pretty so far ahead
- 34:11Speaker 3: of schedule, it's really hard to bank on the regression.
- 34:14Speaker 3: But the regression, to me, the reason they won't get
- 34:16Speaker 3: back is because of the Eagles and Detroit. Like those
- 34:19Speaker 3: teams to me, even the Rams, they all feel like
- 34:21Speaker 3: in the playoffs, all those teams any given night could
- 34:25Speaker 3: beat each other. And that's my honest view of it.
- 34:27Speaker 3: So that's why to me, it's like, you know, I
- 34:30Speaker 3: think it was last year you me and you talked
- 34:32Speaker 3: about there's only two teams we even consider betting really
- 34:36Speaker 3: to make it to the super Bowl with the forty
- 34:37Speaker 3: nineers and the Eagles, Right, the NFC felt very boring, Yeah,
- 34:40Speaker 3: and ended up being pretty boring. It was the forty
- 34:42Speaker 3: nine ers, and it feels like it's the same thing
- 34:44Speaker 3: now where it's like, you know, the Green Bay is
- 34:46Speaker 3: a fun upcoming team. There's a lot of fun upcoming teams,
- 34:48Speaker 3: but like, do we really think those teams are going
- 34:51Speaker 3: to beat the experience that the forty nine Ers or
