- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome in as verdict with center Ted Cruz ben Ferguson
- 0:03Speaker 1: with you as well.
- 0:04Speaker 2: Center.
- 0:04Speaker 1: You had one heck of a weekend as I was
- 0:07Speaker 1: carrying one hundred pounds of golf equipment in Orlando, Florida
- 0:11Speaker 1: for seven hours and fifteen minutes. If anyone was counting
- 0:14Speaker 1: on how long that round lasted. You were at the
- 0:17Speaker 1: World Cup living it up with yours. By the way,
- 0:20Speaker 1: I just want to be clear your daughter picked a
- 0:22Speaker 1: better sport watching World Cup than mine. Carrying a bag
- 0:25Speaker 1: in the sun. Congratulations you want on that one?
- 0:27Speaker 3: Okay, I need to ask what the hell was one
- 0:29Speaker 3: hundred pounds? Is your son like playing golf with anples? Like,
- 0:34Speaker 3: how exactly does that work?
- 0:36Speaker 1: So this is what is in the bag. It's all
- 0:39Speaker 1: the stuff. The ball is normal, that's all there.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Right. Then you have the push cart.
- 0:43Speaker 1: But then you have like seven or eight bottles of water,
- 0:46Speaker 1: plus enough to eat when you're missing a meal to
- 0:49Speaker 1: keep them like keep eating because you're out there so long.
- 0:52Speaker 1: And when you put all that together with the rain
- 0:55Speaker 1: gear and the umbrellas and the ice and the food,
- 0:59Speaker 1: it is literally one hundred and something pounds that kid use.
- 1:02Speaker 3: So is there some rule in like kids golf that
- 1:06Speaker 3: you can't have a golf cart.
- 1:07Speaker 2: You're not allowed to a World Championships.
- 1:10Speaker 1: The caddy and the player must walk the entire eighteen holes.
- 1:15Speaker 3: Just because there's like some mean jerk in charge of
- 1:18Speaker 3: the whole thing, like like why exactly?
- 1:20Speaker 1: I So it's very interesting if you your spectators can
- 1:24Speaker 1: use a cart when you get there. There is it
- 1:27Speaker 1: is straight up like if you want to say you're
- 1:29Speaker 1: world champion, you're going to walk the whole thing and
- 1:32Speaker 1: there will be no one to help you.
- 1:33Speaker 2: And if you want to quit, you can quit.
- 1:35Speaker 1: But the strongest survive it was, I mean it was
- 1:37Speaker 1: a strongest survived scenario.
- 1:39Speaker 2: So that's the that's how it works.
- 1:40Speaker 1: So if you're ever board and you want a caddy,
- 1:43Speaker 1: you it's a great workout, I assure you.
- 1:46Speaker 3: All right, So Ben, I can give you the precise
- 1:49Speaker 3: odds of that that would be zero points zero zero percent.
- 1:53Speaker 3: I will not be caddy. I will cheer you on.
- 1:56Speaker 3: By the way, I like, how did Bradley do?
- 1:59Speaker 1: So he came in he played ten and unders in
- 2:01Speaker 1: the under Armour Worlds and so he got the invite,
- 2:03Speaker 1: so we did it. He's nine, so he's one of
- 2:05Speaker 1: the youngest kids. He came in forty third in the world,
- 2:08Speaker 1: which was awesome for him.
- 2:09Speaker 3: Wow, that's awesome. And by the way, the difference between
- 2:12Speaker 3: nine and ten is big. I mean, like at this age,
- 2:14Speaker 3: a year is massive.
- 2:16Speaker 2: It's massive.
- 2:17Speaker 1: So our goal was to try to make it in
- 2:19Speaker 1: the top fifty in the world, because there's one hundred
- 2:22Speaker 1: and nine kids that got in and he came in
- 2:25Speaker 1: forty third. So I was like, dude, you got to
- 2:27Speaker 1: Now next year you get to come back. You automatically,
- 2:30Speaker 1: We'll get to come back and next year you'll play
- 2:32Speaker 1: the same course.
- 2:33Speaker 4: Is the top fifty get in automatically.
- 2:35Speaker 2: Yeah, yes, he'll get in automatic.
- 2:37Speaker 4: That's the cutoffs.
- 2:38Speaker 1: That's the cutoff. So that was the best part. So
- 2:40Speaker 1: he is back and I told him and he was disappointed.
- 2:42Speaker 1: He wanted to be in the top twenty. And it
- 2:45Speaker 1: was these other kids. They were some of them had
- 2:46Speaker 1: like two year graduating years.
- 2:48Speaker 2: They have your your career, right.
- 2:49Speaker 3: So the other kids, the kids that won, is it
- 2:51Speaker 3: their drive? Do they hit the ball further?
- 2:53Speaker 2: Yeah? Is it?
- 2:54Speaker 3: They're short gamers. They're putting like, like where is the differential?
- 2:58Speaker 1: It's immature. You can see them. So definitely. Just how
- 3:02Speaker 1: far they hit the ball is way like in a year,
- 3:04Speaker 1: Bradley would probably hit the ball another twenty five to
- 3:07Speaker 1: thirty five yards further. Minimum with the tea could be
- 3:09Speaker 1: as much as fifty. And so when you're hitting that
- 3:12Speaker 1: much farther, you're now hitting eight irons and pitching wedges
- 3:16Speaker 1: and nine irons in the green, whereas then if you're back,
- 3:19Speaker 1: you're hitting in you know, not near as accurate of shots.
- 3:22Speaker 1: You're hitting five irons or hybrids in. And it just
- 3:24Speaker 1: it's all the difference in the world.
- 3:25Speaker 4: So it's I don't play golf.
- 3:28Speaker 3: Everything you said there sounded like the teacher on Charlie Brown.
- 3:32Speaker 3: Wow wah wah wah wah wah, why whah, but look
- 3:35Speaker 3: like like some different clubs and the BALI goes into
- 3:38Speaker 3: the holy.
- 3:39Speaker 1: You know what I learned, By the way, do you
- 3:40Speaker 1: want to know what I learned on this adventure with? Like?
- 3:44Speaker 1: So you got to get your kid to drink enough
- 3:46Speaker 1: water to survive. Bradley hates like energy drinks. He does
- 3:50Speaker 1: not like anything flavored. There are electrolyte gummies, folks, I
- 3:55Speaker 1: have found them. They work, and he would eat the
- 3:57Speaker 1: gummies all day.
- 3:58Speaker 2: So there. There's your tip. If you got what.
- 4:01Speaker 3: I just heard is that Ben is feeding his son
- 4:05Speaker 3: marijuana gummies.
- 4:06Speaker 1: Yeah, that's where you heard from Colorado, right, Yeah, a
- 4:09Speaker 1: mile high gummies.
- 4:10Speaker 3: And I gotta say, as a nine year old, he's
- 4:13Speaker 3: the most mellow golf player you've ever seen.
- 4:15Speaker 4: Yeah. Man, the course looks great.
- 4:19Speaker 2: It was fun. We met by the way. We had
- 4:21Speaker 2: Verdict listeners there. It was nice.
- 4:23Speaker 3: You told me that you had several that are like, hey,
- 4:27Speaker 3: I listened to the pod.
- 4:28Speaker 2: Yeah, it was quite fun. They're like when's Ted coming out?
- 4:31Speaker 1: And somebody yelled at across the fairway during the practice route,
- 4:34Speaker 1: like I don't know who they were. They were older
- 4:36Speaker 1: kids and a dad and he yelled, He's like, where's
- 4:38Speaker 1: Ted at. I was like, I don't know, and then
- 4:40Speaker 1: we just kept walking. Laught.
- 4:42Speaker 3: I was in New York City this weekend and I
- 4:44Speaker 3: was sitting at like a hotel bar late at night,
- 4:48Speaker 3: and I had a whole family came up and they said,
- 4:50Speaker 3: we love Verdict.
- 4:50Speaker 4: We listened to it all the time. And I was like, awesome.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Now you got to go to the World Cup this weekend,
- 4:56Speaker 1: which is awesome.
- 4:57Speaker 2: I want to hear all about that before we do that.
- 5:00Speaker 1: I do want to talk to you real quick about
- 5:02Speaker 1: an amazing company that is fighting for our values each
- 5:06Speaker 1: and every day.

- 5:16Speaker 1: has momentum again with our leaders fighting to restore common
- 5:20Speaker 1: sense and America first we've seen how this works. Before
- 5:24Speaker 1: we get comfortable as conservatives, then the left starts taking
- 5:27Speaker 1: back ground inch by inch, and that is something we
- 5:30Speaker 1: cannot let happen in these midterm elections. America needs every
- 5:34Speaker 1: one of us in the fight, and a big part
- 5:35Speaker 1: of that means supporting companies like Patriot Mobile then actually
- 5:39Speaker 1: stand for our values. And that's why I'm proud to
- 5:42Speaker 1: partner with them. Patriot Mobile not only gives you premium

- 5:57Speaker 1: hundred percent US based customer support. Switching has never been easier.

- 6:03Speaker 1: in your hand. You can keep your same number and
- 6:05Speaker 1: you can activate over the phone in just minutes. Now,
- 6:09Speaker 1: this is where the magic happens. Patriot Mobiles gives millions
- 6:13Speaker 1: of dollars and donations every year to organizations that are

- 6:38Speaker 1: now nine to seven to Patriot and make that switch
- 6:41Speaker 1: in minutes. All right, Senator, So let's let's talk about
- 6:44Speaker 1: you got not only like two cool things. One you
- 6:46Speaker 1: got to go to the World Cup, but two you
- 6:48Speaker 1: got to take one of your daughters with you, which
- 6:50Speaker 1: is like that's like core memories you got to make.
- 6:54Speaker 3: Yeah, So, look Sunday, I went to the World Cup
- 6:57Speaker 3: finals that they were in New York. Actually New Jersey
- 6:59Speaker 3: was kind of funny. It was in New Jersey, but
- 7:01Speaker 3: the branding was all New York slash New Jersey. I
- 7:04Speaker 3: felt bad for New Jersey because we weren't actually in
- 7:06Speaker 3: New York, but somehow New York got top billing.
- 7:11Speaker 2: Everybody stayed that came to the game.
- 7:13Speaker 1: That's the reality, right, You stay in New York City,
- 7:15Speaker 1: then you go over to New Jersey, and then you
- 7:16Speaker 1: get out of there as fast.
- 7:17Speaker 2: As you can.
- 7:18Speaker 3: So it was really fun. And I had two tickets,
- 7:21Speaker 3: so Heidi and I were going to go. And then
- 7:23Speaker 3: I asked my two girls, Caroline and Catherine, hey, do
- 7:26Speaker 3: you all want to go to the World Cup. They
- 7:27Speaker 3: both wanted to go, but my youngest daughter, Katherine, you know,
- 7:30Speaker 3: both are girls. She's fifteen, and Catherine and I we
- 7:35Speaker 3: do sporting events at like going back. All right, let
- 7:40Speaker 3: me tell some history on this, going back to twenty seventeen.
- 7:44Speaker 3: Twenty seventeen the World Series between Houston Astros and the Dodgers.
- 7:50Speaker 4: So I was blessed.
- 7:52Speaker 3: I went to Game three, four, and five of the
- 7:53Speaker 3: World Series. Game three I took my dad. I mean,
- 7:57Speaker 3: what a great chance, take your dad to a World Series.
- 7:59Speaker 3: That's just really cool, that's incredible. Game four I took Heidi,
- 8:05Speaker 3: total and complete waste. I adore my wife.
- 8:09Speaker 2: She would say that right, yes, yes.
- 8:12Speaker 3: She's my best friend in the world. But in like
- 8:15Speaker 3: the third inning, she turned to me and said, did
- 8:16Speaker 3: they score a touchdown? And I said, I am offended
- 8:22Speaker 3: that you are in this stadium taking a seat that
- 8:26Speaker 3: should be taken by a real baseball fan. All Right,
- 8:30Speaker 3: so Game five I invite initially my daughter Caroline. And
- 8:36Speaker 3: Caroline was nine at the time, and I adore Caroline.
- 8:39Speaker 3: She is an incredible kid. She is brilliant, but she
- 8:43Speaker 3: is God help her just like her dad. She is
- 8:45Speaker 3: a pain in the ass.
- 8:47Speaker 4: And I say that I am too. I love it.
- 8:50Speaker 3: But I say, hey, sweetheart, do you want to go
- 8:53Speaker 3: to the World Series? She said sure, but she said
- 8:58Speaker 3: but I'm going to root for the Dodgers.
- 9:01Speaker 1: And and You're like, why, oh wait, I know the
- 9:05Speaker 1: answer this.
- 9:06Speaker 3: So Heidi is a native Californian and so she grew
- 9:09Speaker 3: up in California rooting for the Dodgers. But secondly, Caroline
- 9:15Speaker 3: just did not, and at eighteen today just sort of
- 9:18Speaker 3: likes to screw with her dad, like like she she
- 9:20Speaker 3: knew that would piss me off. So she liked that answer.
- 9:24Speaker 3: And my response to Caroline said, sweetheart, I love you,
- 9:28Speaker 3: but I'll be damned if I'm going to take you
- 9:30Speaker 3: to the game. If you're going to root for the Dodgers,
- 9:33Speaker 3: you know, if any one you want, but I ain't
- 9:35Speaker 3: taking you.
- 9:36Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:36Speaker 3: And Catherine, it was the day after her seventh birthday
- 9:39Speaker 3: and she looks up with those big brown eyes. She
- 9:41Speaker 3: blinks twice and she goes, Daddy, I'll root for the
- 9:44Speaker 3: Astros And I said, ye, sold.
- 9:47Speaker 2: Sold, and the smartest answer of her life.
- 9:50Speaker 3: So I took Catherine. And if you remember Game five
- 9:54Speaker 3: of the twenty seventeen World Series, that's the game that
- 9:56Speaker 3: went to one thirty in the morning. Was an unbelievable game.
- 10:00Speaker 3: And Catherine and I are jumping, we're hugging, and I
- 10:04Speaker 3: told her she it was a day after she turned seven,
- 10:07Speaker 3: and I said, sweetheart, you don't really appreciate this now,
- 10:12Speaker 3: but you were going to tell your grandkids you were
- 10:15Speaker 3: at this game. You've just witnessed the greatest game in
- 10:18Speaker 3: the history of the Houston Astros. It was amazing and
- 10:21Speaker 3: what that started is a tradition. Look, the Astros one
- 10:27Speaker 3: made it to the next seven Alcs's Yep, we made
- 10:31Speaker 3: it to four.
- 10:31Speaker 1: World Series game that I don't know if it'll ever
- 10:34Speaker 1: happen again.
- 10:34Speaker 3: Okay, we made it to four World Series and we
- 10:37Speaker 3: won too, And I told Catherine, I said, you don't understand.
- 10:41Speaker 3: This doesn't happen. This is like a freakish perfect storm.
- 10:46Speaker 3: And that Game five of the twenty seventeen World Series
- 10:50Speaker 3: started a tradition where Katherine and I have gone to
- 10:53Speaker 3: almost every single home playoff game of the Astros for
- 10:58Speaker 3: the last eight years. And it's just what she and
- 11:00Speaker 3: I do. We don't make it to a lot of
- 11:03Speaker 3: regular season games because there's so many of them and
- 11:05Speaker 3: it's hard, but you get to playoff time and I
- 11:10Speaker 3: work in yeah, and listen, we're often in DC, I'm
- 11:15Speaker 3: in session, and during the playoffs, I'll get on a plane,
- 11:19Speaker 3: I'll fly home, I'll take her to the game. I'll
- 11:22Speaker 3: go to sleep, I'll wake up at four in the morning,
- 11:24Speaker 3: get on a plane at the krack of dawn and
- 11:25Speaker 3: come back to DC.
- 11:26Speaker 4: And I'll just do that.
- 11:28Speaker 3: And so I feel immensely grateful, Like from age seven
- 11:32Speaker 3: to age fifteen, I've been able to go to I
- 11:35Speaker 3: don't know, forty playoff games with Catherine. I mean, it's
- 11:40Speaker 3: been it has been the daddy daughter tradition. So on
- 11:44Speaker 3: the World Cup, I said, okay, we got tickets to
- 11:46Speaker 3: the finals, and Heidi wanted to go. She's like, all right,
- 11:49Speaker 3: this sounds like fun. And Caroline wanted to go actually,
- 11:52Speaker 3: but then Catherine really really wanted to go. And I'm
- 11:57Speaker 3: going to give Heidi props. She said, you know what,
- 12:00Speaker 3: I'd like to be there, but Catherine really.
- 12:02Speaker 4: Wants to go.
- 12:02Speaker 3: And she also said, look, she's fifteen. In a couple
- 12:05Speaker 3: of years, she'd go off to college.
- 12:07Speaker 4: She's going to be gone.
- 12:08Speaker 3: This is a daddy daughter moment. So I took Catherine.
- 12:11Speaker 3: We had a blast the game. Did you watch the game?
- 12:15Speaker 2: It was good? Yeah? I watched it.
- 12:16Speaker 3: Yeah, it was a really good game. Now now listen,
- 12:20Speaker 3: I'm not going to pretend that I'm a huge soccer fan.
- 12:23Speaker 4: I haven't watched the Martian World country four years.
- 12:26Speaker 1: That's like, and there's nothing wrong with that. Like I
- 12:28Speaker 1: could care less World Cup happens.
- 12:30Speaker 3: Okay, I care And by the way, this World Cup
- 12:33Speaker 3: A were hosting. But b I loved chearing on the
- 12:36Speaker 3: American team and it was really fun. I loved seeing
- 12:40Speaker 3: these foreigners, these Europeans coming to America, these Japanese coming
- 12:44Speaker 3: to America and falling in love with our country. That
- 12:47Speaker 3: was the patriotic aspect. Did you follow Freddy online?
- 12:51Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I think the whole world did if you
- 12:54Speaker 1: were online, because it was the best part of the
- 12:55Speaker 1: whole thing.
- 12:56Speaker 3: Look, Freddie is this this German tourist who came to
- 12:59Speaker 3: go to the Games and he drove from like Louisiana
- 13:02Speaker 3: to Arkansas to Texas and he just he tweeted about
- 13:06Speaker 3: it and like he encountered a BUCkies and he's like,
- 13:09Speaker 3: oh my god, what what is this thing? And it
- 13:12Speaker 3: was the most beautiful I've never met Freddie. I don't
- 13:16Speaker 3: know the guy. I don't imagine I'll ever meet him,
- 13:18Speaker 3: but I loved his genuine love for America and watching that.
- 13:24Speaker 3: There's another great thing that I had fun on Twitter
- 13:26Speaker 3: retweeting these things. There was another great moment when the
- 13:29Speaker 3: team from Norway landed at DFW and there were like
- 13:34Speaker 3: twenty Fort Worth cops that were sitting on the tarmac
- 13:38Speaker 3: and as the team came down, they were all doing
- 13:40Speaker 3: the row and it was so cool, like these Fort
- 13:44Speaker 3: Worth police officers welcome being the Norway team. That was
- 13:49Speaker 3: an amazing thing. So I've enjoyed cheering on the Americans
- 13:52Speaker 3: of the World Cup and then in the final, you know,
- 13:56Speaker 3: it's interesting. I had a bunch of people ask all right,
- 13:58Speaker 3: who are you rooting for? And I'll admit I was
- 14:00Speaker 3: a little conflicted. Look, Argentine, yes, and I'll tell you why, Argentina.
- 14:06Speaker 2: I want to know who are you ready for? The way?
- 14:09Speaker 4: Okay?
- 14:09Speaker 1: Because I lived there in the summer in ale Conte
- 14:12Speaker 1: and fell over the people there and I was like,
- 14:14Speaker 1: this is amazing.
- 14:15Speaker 3: So here's why I was conflicted, a Argentina. Messi is
- 14:19Speaker 3: one of the greatest soccer players to ever lived, and
- 14:21Speaker 3: I just love excellence. It's sort of like Michael Jordan,
- 14:23Speaker 3: like watching someone. Messi is by any measure, you could
- 14:28Speaker 3: argue who the top one is, but Messi's in the
- 14:30Speaker 3: top five any way you look at it. He's in
- 14:32Speaker 3: the top five. And so I like excellence. But I
- 14:36Speaker 3: actually made the decision going.
- 14:37Speaker 4: Into the game. I'm going to root for Spain.
- 14:39Speaker 3: And the reason is my dad, as you know, was
- 14:42Speaker 3: born in Cuba, but my grandfather, my Abuelo, was born
- 14:46Speaker 3: in the Canary Islands, which is part of Spain. The
- 14:48Speaker 3: Canary Islands. My grandfather was born in the Canary Islands
- 14:51Speaker 3: and then he came to Cuba. He was born in
- 14:53Speaker 3: nineteen hundred he came to Cuba in nineteen oh one,
- 14:56Speaker 3: and so so my family going back before is Spanish
- 15:00Speaker 3: in tradition.
- 15:00Speaker 4: So I said, all right, I'm gonna I'm gonna root
- 15:02Speaker 4: for Spain.
- 15:04Speaker 3: But I look, I didn't feel strongly. It was just
- 15:06Speaker 3: sort of like, all right, who you want to root for?
- 15:07Speaker 3: I guess, okay, since my family has origins in Spain,
- 15:11Speaker 3: let's root for Spain. I gotta say the game number one,
- 15:17Speaker 3: Spain dominated the game, and I'm not it was.
- 15:21Speaker 1: I mean, they from their defense to their offense to
- 15:25Speaker 1: everything in between.
- 15:26Speaker 2: They were a fine oiled machine and.
- 15:29Speaker 1: You could tell they got their mojo going and actually
- 15:32Speaker 1: improved during the tournament. Yes, not all teams did that,
- 15:35Speaker 1: by the way, Like you had some spotty games for
- 15:37Speaker 1: some of the teams are spotty halves.
- 15:39Speaker 2: They just kept getting better.
- 15:42Speaker 4: Well.
- 15:42Speaker 3: And look, as I said, I'm not a big soccer fan.
- 15:46Speaker 3: I don't watch a lot of games, but in high
- 15:48Speaker 3: school I played soccer. So in high school I played
- 15:50Speaker 3: I played basketball, which was my main sport. I played
- 15:52Speaker 3: soccer and football, so I like all three and I enjoyed.
- 15:55Speaker 3: You know, I was a you know, I was a
- 15:57Speaker 3: right midfielder, and so you know, play offense and def
- 16:00Speaker 3: and I liked it, like soccer was a fun sport
- 16:01Speaker 3: to play.
- 16:02Speaker 4: Did you play soccer as.
- 16:03Speaker 1: A kid, And I mean when I was you know,
- 16:05Speaker 1: church ball as they called a kindergarten, first, second, third grade.
- 16:08Speaker 2: And then I was.
- 16:08Speaker 3: Out, Look, you were a tennis guy. You're kind of
- 16:11Speaker 3: a puffy, so that's okay.
- 16:13Speaker 1: I was not going to be a soccer player. I
- 16:14Speaker 1: have a hard time getting excited about sports where no
- 16:16Speaker 1: one wins a lot.
- 16:18Speaker 3: I understand. I will tell you my high school team.
- 16:22Speaker 3: We would slide tackle a ton and I had one
- 16:26Speaker 3: guy who was on my team who actually got two
- 16:28Speaker 3: yellow cards, which are not allowed to You're supposed to
- 16:30Speaker 3: get a red card and get thrown out, but the
- 16:32Speaker 3: refs forgot. They gave him two yellow cards because our
- 16:35Speaker 3: team was violent. We weren't that good, but we were violent,
- 16:38Speaker 3: and he wore two yellow bracelets and sort of celebration
- 16:42Speaker 3: of getting two yellow cards and not being thrown out
- 16:44Speaker 3: of a game. And we had another guy, Mike, who
- 16:46Speaker 3: was a buddy of mine, who was a defender who
- 16:51Speaker 3: would slide tackle. Was his cleats in the air and
- 16:54Speaker 3: he would rip like like guys shins and he became
- 16:59Speaker 3: a Rien Marine. He was a tough guy. But anyway,
- 17:03Speaker 3: so look, I like soccer playing as a kid, but
- 17:06Speaker 3: I'm not a big fan. But but I will say
- 17:08Speaker 3: the game. What was amazing is number one, the Spanish
- 17:13Speaker 3: offense dominated and they just eighty percent of the game
- 17:19Speaker 3: was played well, the Spanish offense was on offense on
- 17:22Speaker 3: the Argentinian side of the field, and just score after score.
- 17:26Speaker 3: And let me say, the Argentinian goal gold.
- 17:28Speaker 1: Audience, what could you tell was like argentinan or was
- 17:32Speaker 1: actually like Spain, like not Americans there picking a team,
- 17:35Speaker 1: but like authentic genuine fans of the country.
- 17:40Speaker 3: There were a bunch of both. I don't know that
- 17:42Speaker 3: it felt in the stadium like one was more dominant
- 17:45Speaker 3: than the other. There were a bunch of Spanish fans
- 17:47Speaker 3: wearing Spanish colors, but there were a bunch of Argentinian fans.
- 17:50Speaker 3: So it was a pretty it felt pretty even. But
- 17:54Speaker 3: look the Spanish they were just taking shots on goal,
- 17:58Speaker 3: shots on goal. And that Argentinian goalkeeper, that guy played
- 18:04Speaker 3: an incredible game. I mean the saves that he had. Frankly,
- 18:09Speaker 3: at the end of the regular period, it should have
- 18:13Speaker 3: been three zero four zero Spain like the number of
- 18:16Speaker 3: shots on goal, and it was impressive that goalkeeper almost
- 18:21Speaker 3: single handedly kept Argentina in the game. And I was
- 18:25Speaker 3: really hoping. I wanted Spain to win, but I really
- 18:28Speaker 3: wanted Messi to score a goal. And it's kind of like,
- 18:30Speaker 3: you're watching, I assume this is his last hurrah. And
- 18:34Speaker 3: it was sort of like if you go see a
- 18:35Speaker 3: game of Michael Jordan or Tom Brady at the end
- 18:38Speaker 3: of the career, you want Jordan to win the game.
- 18:41Speaker 3: You want Tom Brady to throw the great touchdown pass
- 18:45Speaker 3: by the way I did see. So I've been to
- 18:47Speaker 3: one Super Bowl game in my life, and it was
- 18:51Speaker 3: the Super Bowl.
- 18:51Speaker 2: I would say, what was the game?
- 18:53Speaker 4: Houston?
- 18:55Speaker 3: And it was New England versus Atlanta, and it was
- 18:58Speaker 3: my It was in my hometown. So I'm like, all right,
- 19:00Speaker 3: let's go to that. And look, I frankly didn't care
- 19:04Speaker 3: between New England and Atlanta, and neither of them have
- 19:06Speaker 3: been the Texans or even the Cowboys. I'd be rooting
- 19:09Speaker 3: for them, but it was not a Texas team, so
- 19:10Speaker 3: I was kind of indifferent. And I came in and
- 19:13Speaker 3: I said, look, I don't care who wins, but I
- 19:15Speaker 3: want a really good game. I want it close. I
- 19:17Speaker 3: wanted exciting, and it ended up being the first Super
- 19:20Speaker 3: Bowl game in history that went to overtime. And if
- 19:23Speaker 3: you remember, that was the overtime game where Tom Brady
- 19:26Speaker 3: came back and won it, and it was really cool,
- 19:29Speaker 3: like Brady, I think is unequivocally the goat. I used
- 19:33Speaker 3: to think Montana was. And when Brady moved from New
- 19:37Speaker 3: England to Tampa Bay, it was just the most study move.
- 19:41Speaker 4: And then he won again.
- 19:41Speaker 3: It was like, all right, I've got an amazing team,
- 19:44Speaker 3: I've got a fantastic you know, supporting cast. Let me
- 19:48Speaker 3: go somewhere else and I'm gonna win here. And it
- 19:50Speaker 3: was just like, all right, that that qualifies. So I
- 19:54Speaker 3: was thrilled to watch Brady do that overtime drive down
- 19:59Speaker 3: the field, and I have to admit watching it, you're
- 20:01Speaker 3: kind of like, yeah, they're going to win, like you
- 20:03Speaker 3: just it reminded me of you.
- 20:06Speaker 1: Could tell there was momentum, and it was yeah, it
- 20:08Speaker 1: was hard to see where how they would lose the game.
- 20:11Speaker 3: So twenty years ago, I was very fortunate to go
- 20:15Speaker 3: to the Rose Bowl game that was Texas versus USC
- 20:19Speaker 3: and it was the National championship and Heidi and I went.
- 20:22Speaker 3: And this is long before I was in the Senate.
- 20:24Speaker 4: I was just you know, I was a lawyer.
- 20:25Speaker 3: I was SG and I went with a good buddy
- 20:27Speaker 3: of mine who had tickets, who invited me, and we
- 20:30Speaker 3: went there. By the way, this is the only argument
- 20:33Speaker 3: I've won in twenty five years of marriage. So we're
- 20:37Speaker 3: going there, Kellie.
- 20:38Speaker 1: I believe this. I believe that this is the only
- 20:40Speaker 1: one I will stand by you. I think that's probably
- 20:43Speaker 1: very accurate.
- 20:43Speaker 2: But keep going.
- 20:45Speaker 4: So we're going there.
- 20:46Speaker 3: And Heidi is a native California and she got a
- 20:48Speaker 3: bunch of family down in southern California, and she said, Okay,
- 20:53Speaker 3: we're going to wear USC red. And I said, sweetheart,
- 20:58Speaker 3: I love you, but if you do that, I'm throwing
- 21:00Speaker 3: you out of the truck. And Heidi just doesn't care
- 21:05Speaker 3: about sports. It's not a thing that matters to her.
- 21:08Speaker 3: And so she recognized that I did care, and so
- 21:12Speaker 3: I dressed my darling California wife in burn range from
- 21:15Speaker 3: head to toe, and we saw I think, unquestionably one
- 21:21Speaker 3: of the greatest college football games ever. I think it
- 21:23Speaker 3: may be the greatest where it we're like Vince Young,
- 21:25Speaker 3: the comeback, you know, we're down four minutes and fifteen
- 21:29Speaker 3: seconds and we're down, and just like Brady, you knew
- 21:33Speaker 3: that game, Vince Young was like a man among boys, yep,
- 21:38Speaker 3: and it was extraordinary. So that was and Brady reminded
- 21:42Speaker 3: me of that. Like the overtime, I had the same
- 21:45Speaker 3: feeling where it's just like Patriots are gonna win. So
- 21:48Speaker 3: I was hoping Messi would do that, like like I
- 21:50Speaker 3: would have loved to have been the Swan song the
- 21:53Speaker 3: end of an incredible career. Messi scored. I still wanted
- 21:56Speaker 3: Spain to win, but I wanted Messi to score. You know,
- 21:59Speaker 3: he had one good shot on goal from from the
- 22:02Speaker 3: right side of the field, but it went I think
- 22:04Speaker 3: high end of the right and he didn't get it.
- 22:07Speaker 3: But it was an awesome time. Do you know the
- 22:10Speaker 3: coolest part of the whole thing?
- 22:12Speaker 2: What was that?
- 22:14Speaker 3: So where we were sitting two boxes over, there were
- 22:20Speaker 3: a bunch of rap stars, like Drake was there, and
- 22:24Speaker 3: I don't even know, a bunch of rap stars that
- 22:26Speaker 3: I've never heard of, because I rap's not my thing,
- 22:28Speaker 3: so I don't know that world. But Catherine was just
- 22:34Speaker 3: like a gog.
- 22:35Speaker 4: She likes rap. I don't like rap. It's not my thing.
- 22:37Speaker 3: But she was like, oh, that's so and so, that's
- 22:39Speaker 3: so and so, and she took a couple of pictures
- 22:41Speaker 3: and she was so excited and she's like, Dad, can
- 22:43Speaker 3: we ever see them? And I'm like, sweetheart, I can
- 22:47Speaker 3: take you a lot of places. I'm just like, there
- 22:51Speaker 3: are places I've got a little bit of stroke, like
- 22:54Speaker 3: a box full of rock rap stars.
- 22:56Speaker 4: That's just not my Yeah, all power to them.
- 23:02Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, this is not a place where where you know,
- 23:06Speaker 3: Ted Cruz comes knocking on the door and they're like, yeah,
- 23:09Speaker 3: we're thrilled to see it. So but Catherine was ecstatic.
- 23:15Speaker 3: She she left and said, all right, this was the
- 23:19Speaker 3: coolest day of my life.
- 23:20Speaker 2: And so there you go.
- 23:22Speaker 1: Okay, so you got Dad, you got you, and you've
- 23:25Speaker 1: got dad points that will last you maybe a day
- 23:27Speaker 1: and a half may.
- 23:29Speaker 3: By the way, by the way, do you know who
- 23:30Speaker 3: we met and at the game? Who Drew Barrymore?
- 23:36Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 23:36Speaker 3: Oh yeah, so so it it made me feel a
- 23:41Speaker 3: little bad because Catherine.
- 23:42Speaker 4: Didn't know who Drew Barrymore was.
- 23:43Speaker 3: And I'm like, oh god, I feel old, like like
- 23:45Speaker 3: she like you and I grew up with her. I mean,
- 23:46Speaker 3: she was any tea like she was, and I'd never
- 23:50Speaker 3: met her, and and look, you know she's she's a
- 23:52Speaker 3: terrific actress. But to be honest, Republican politicians are not
- 23:57Speaker 3: necessarily all that popular among Hollywood actors. She was the
- 24:03Speaker 3: nicest person, and she was charming. We had a great
- 24:06Speaker 3: conversation and she was real and fun, and I like,
- 24:09Speaker 3: I really liked her, Like.
- 24:11Speaker 1: Wait, by the way, that's the way it should be,
- 24:13Speaker 1: like I meet you know you and I were very blessed.
- 24:15Speaker 4: By the way. Drew is huggy.
- 24:17Speaker 3: So like every person she met, she'd go and hug them,
- 24:19Speaker 3: so like she hugged me, and I'm like, well a crap, Drew,
- 24:21Speaker 3: Drew Barrymore is hugging me.
- 24:22Speaker 4: And it was. It wasn't fake.
- 24:24Speaker 3: It was just kind of a real She's an expressive,
- 24:27Speaker 3: nice person and we had we probably spent twenty minutes
- 24:31Speaker 3: talking together, and it was really cool, all right.
- 24:34Speaker 1: So I asked her, I think, did I tell you
- 24:35Speaker 1: when I was in New York the other day there
- 24:37Speaker 1: was a and I promised I would not use her name,
- 24:40Speaker 1: Did I I tell you who I met walking in
- 24:42Speaker 1: and out there hotel? Very very famous actress, And she
- 24:45Speaker 1: walked over and she said, you do a great job
- 24:49Speaker 1: on TV. I don't always agree with you, but you
- 24:51Speaker 1: always make me laugh. Just don't tell anybody I told
- 24:54Speaker 1: you that I promised. I same thing like with the
- 24:57Speaker 1: Barrymore thing. So kind fockingly nice. Spent multiple minutes having
- 25:03Speaker 1: this conversation, and then it was like, by the way,
- 25:05Speaker 1: don't out me or tell anybody that we like met
- 25:07Speaker 1: in this way. And I was like, I understand, you
- 25:09Speaker 1: got to keep your street credit in Hollywood.
- 25:11Speaker 2: But the same thing with BEARNR.
- 25:12Speaker 1: It's nice when you meet somebody like that and they're
- 25:14Speaker 1: actually really really kind.
- 25:16Speaker 3: Well, and I asked her, I said, all right, what's
- 25:18Speaker 3: your favorite movie you did and you know? And her
- 25:22Speaker 3: response was interesting. She said ET and she was a
- 25:25Speaker 3: little girl, but she was awesome ET. And then she
- 25:28Speaker 3: said Charlie's Angels and I actually hoped, Catherine, I'm actually
- 25:31Speaker 3: bummed Catherine didn't know Charlie's Angels.
- 25:33Speaker 4: That was a good movie, that was well done.
- 25:35Speaker 2: It was a great movie.
- 25:36Speaker 3: And then Drew said all the Adam Sandler movies and
- 25:40Speaker 3: she mentioned Fifty First Dates and I told her, I said,
- 25:43Speaker 3: look good, I said, that's I liked Fifty First Dates.
- 25:47Speaker 3: That was a sweet movie. It was touching. I have
- 25:51Speaker 3: not met Adam Sandler. I've heard he's a conservative. I
- 25:55Speaker 3: have friends who know him, so I'm like one connection away.
- 25:58Speaker 3: But I just like Adam Sam He's funny, he's a
- 26:01Speaker 3: good guy, and that movie is just look, all right,
- 26:05Speaker 3: I'm gonna this is gonna weaken my like bro Creds,
- 26:10Speaker 3: but but I kind of like some rom coms and
- 26:12Speaker 3: like Fifty First Dates. It was a neat premise. But
- 26:16Speaker 3: the way, by the way, if you haven't watched Fifty
- 26:18Speaker 3: First Dates, it's.
- 26:19Speaker 2: About it's hysterical and cute.
- 26:23Speaker 3: It is hysterical and cute, and it's about someone who
- 26:28Speaker 3: has like memory loss.
- 26:30Speaker 1: Frontal low memory loss. Every day they forget what happened
- 26:34Speaker 1: the day.
- 26:34Speaker 3: Before, and so you end up with Adam Sandler and
- 26:38Speaker 3: Drew Barrymore having a first date every day and like
- 26:41Speaker 3: waking up not remembering their whole history. And it's just
- 26:46Speaker 3: it's a cute and fun show, and I like, I
- 26:49Speaker 3: was happy she said that was one of her favorite,
- 26:51Speaker 3: because that's what I would say was he was my
- 26:53Speaker 3: favorite of her movies.
- 26:55Speaker 1: So you went from that back to DC straight to
- 26:59Speaker 1: the Oval Monday morning. Yeah, for a very interesting meeting
- 27:02Speaker 1: on AI at the White House.
- 27:04Speaker 2: Talk about that a little bit.
- 27:06Speaker 3: Yeah, So I took Amtrak and came from Manhattan down
- 27:09Speaker 3: to DC on Monday, and then I had a meeting
- 27:11Speaker 3: at the Oval Monday.
- 27:12Speaker 2: And by the way, that is.
- 27:13Speaker 1: What we call welcome back to your real life when
- 27:15Speaker 1: you go from the World Cup Drew Barrymore to Amtrak
- 27:18Speaker 1: to DC. I just that's an interesting step down really quick.
- 27:22Speaker 1: And that's probably got on purpose doing that.
- 27:24Speaker 2: But keep going.
- 27:25Speaker 3: Oh yeah, yeah, look look it was. And so the
- 27:28Speaker 3: meeting in the Oval, I was with the President. I
- 27:31Speaker 3: was with Marsha Blackburn, Senator from Tennessee, and I was
- 27:35Speaker 3: with Scott bess at the Treasury Secretary, and Kevin Hasset
- 27:37Speaker 3: at the head of the National Economic Council, and several
- 27:40Speaker 3: other members of the White House staff, and we were
- 27:42Speaker 3: talking about AI, artificial intelligence, and it was a discussion
- 27:48Speaker 3: about what to do about it. And listen, Marcia has
- 27:50Speaker 3: a package of bills that she's pitching. And it's a
- 27:55Speaker 3: package of bills. It's kids safety bills, it's requiring app
- 27:59Speaker 3: store to verify ages. It's a bill called no Fakes,
- 28:05Speaker 3: which which deals with preventing people from from pirting and competing,
- 28:09Speaker 3: copying people's voices and images, and so she was pitching
- 28:15Speaker 3: to the President, you should support my package of bills.
- 28:19Speaker 3: And I'm chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, Transportation,
- 28:23Speaker 3: which has jurisdiction over a ton of stuff, including AI,
- 28:27Speaker 3: and so we're going to have a mark up in
- 28:29Speaker 3: the next couple of weeks on a bunch of AI bills,
- 28:32Speaker 3: and Marsha wants her a bill to be one of them.
- 28:34Speaker 3: And so she laid it out, and I got to
- 28:37Speaker 3: say a lot of discussions. She's pushing the president back
- 28:39Speaker 3: my bill, back my bill, back my bill, and I
- 28:42Speaker 3: stayed quiet for much of the meeting. The meeting was
- 28:44Speaker 3: like hour hour and a half long, and then I
- 28:46Speaker 3: said at the end, I said, listen, if Marcia introduces
- 28:50Speaker 3: the bill, I'll mark it up. I'll put it up
- 28:52Speaker 3: on the committee for a vote. And I said, I
- 28:56Speaker 3: expect all supported. All. To be honest, I'd never read
- 28:59Speaker 3: the bill until she had it to me, so I like,
- 29:01Speaker 3: she handed me a hundred page bill and I didn't
- 29:03Speaker 3: know what was in it, but I said, look, from
- 29:05Speaker 3: what she's described in it, I anticipate.
- 29:07Speaker 4: I'll support it.
- 29:09Speaker 3: But I also said it was kind of near the
- 29:11Speaker 3: end of the meeting, but I said, because they had
- 29:14Speaker 3: handed the president a truth social post supporting the bill,
- 29:19Speaker 3: and I said, look, someone needs to tell you this
- 29:24Speaker 3: bill has very little, if any chance of passing. And
- 29:30Speaker 3: like Trump was surprised, and I just said, look, there
- 29:33Speaker 3: are different elements of it.
- 29:34Speaker 4: Right now.
- 29:34Speaker 3: There are no Democrats backing this bill. It's not clear
- 29:39Speaker 3: that every Republican on the committee will back the bill.
- 29:41Speaker 3: Maybe they will, they might, And I said, let me
- 29:43Speaker 3: get clear. I'll mark it up and I expect to
- 29:45Speaker 3: vote for it. So I'm not the opposition here, but
- 29:48Speaker 3: I just want you to know that at this point
- 29:51Speaker 3: there's opposition from Democrats in the Senate, there's opposition potentially
- 29:56Speaker 3: from some Republicans in the Senate, and there's strong opposition
- 30:00Speaker 3: on aspects of the bill from Republican leadership in the House.
- 30:03Speaker 3: And so I just said, I don't want you to
- 30:06Speaker 3: be surprised. You lean in and say let's go pass
- 30:08Speaker 3: this bill and then it doesn't pass. And so Trump said,
- 30:11Speaker 3: all right, well, then I'm not going to support it.
- 30:13Speaker 3: I don't want to support something that doesn't have a
- 30:14Speaker 3: path to passage. And so we're going to mark up
- 30:18Speaker 3: a series of bills. I've told Marshap she wants me
- 30:20Speaker 3: to mark up her bill.
- 30:22Speaker 4: We will. I don't know she will ask for it
- 30:24Speaker 4: or not.
- 30:24Speaker 2: Can you ask a politics question on this?
- 30:26Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 30:27Speaker 1: How much of her bill is her pushing because she's
- 30:31Speaker 1: running for governor and really trying to get Tennessee's hands
- 30:34Speaker 1: on a lot of AI and AI infrastructure and AI
- 30:38Speaker 1: in the state. Not blame her for that, but like,
- 30:40Speaker 1: is that part of this hardcore push where you're in
- 30:43Speaker 1: the Senate You're going I understand both sides of this
- 30:45Speaker 1: or am I reading the room wrong?
- 30:47Speaker 3: So listen, they're different components of it. So let's take
- 30:49Speaker 3: the different elements of the bill. The first bill is COSA,
- 30:53Speaker 3: and COSA is a kid's safety bill. It's a good bill.
- 30:56Speaker 3: I've supported it. I've voted for it in the last Congress.
- 30:59Speaker 3: It passed the Senate ninety three to three. So I'm
- 31:02Speaker 3: all four COSA. I'm a yes, I want it to pass.
- 31:05Speaker 3: Here's the problem. After it passed the Senate ninety three
- 31:08Speaker 3: to three, it went to the House and the House
- 31:13Speaker 3: refused to take it up. Why because because the Speaker
- 31:16Speaker 3: of the House and Steve Scalise, the Majority leader, opposed
- 31:20Speaker 3: the bill. And the bill puts what's called a duty
- 31:23Speaker 3: of care on the tech companies that that that if
- 31:26Speaker 3: there's content that harms kids, they can be sued, and
- 31:31Speaker 3: the House leadership doesn't support that. And so look, frankly,
- 31:34Speaker 3: what I told Marsha a year and a half ago
- 31:36Speaker 3: is I said, listen, Mop, I'll back COOS again. We
- 31:38Speaker 3: can pass it again. I'm fine with that, but it
- 31:41Speaker 3: will never become law until you sit down with Johnson
- 31:45Speaker 3: and Scalise and work out an agreement. Because if they
- 31:48Speaker 3: refuse to take up the bill, you want to pass
- 31:50Speaker 3: it again.
- 31:50Speaker 4: We can do it. You'll get mine.
- 31:53Speaker 2: They're not going to take it up.
- 31:54Speaker 3: If the House won't take it up, it's not going
- 31:57Speaker 3: to become in the US Code. And so I said,
- 32:00Speaker 3: what you need to do is sit down and negotiate
- 32:03Speaker 3: a compromise and it won't be everything you want, but
- 32:05Speaker 3: you need to find something the House is willing to
- 32:07Speaker 3: pass that hasn't happened. So that's a real impediment. I'm
- 32:12Speaker 3: going to vote for COSA. I want COSA to pass,
- 32:14Speaker 3: but right now the House is not going to take
- 32:18Speaker 3: it up. There's a second component, which is called the
- 32:21Speaker 3: App Store Accountability app, which is putting liability on an
- 32:27Speaker 3: app store for age verification. Now, there are a couple
- 32:31Speaker 3: of problems with that. Number One, there are tech companies
- 32:35Speaker 3: like Meta, like Facebook that support it, but Apple and
- 32:39Speaker 3: Google hate it because they're the app stores and they're like, wait,
- 32:42Speaker 3: you're making me liable. So Apple and Google don't like it,
- 32:45Speaker 3: and so they're both the tech companies are divided. They're
- 32:48Speaker 3: lobbying on both sides. And there's a competing bill that
- 32:54Speaker 3: is called the Parents Over Platforms Bill, which is frankly
- 32:57Speaker 3: the Apple and Google bill, and there are several Republicans
- 33:01Speaker 3: on the committee that support that bill. And so I said, look,
- 33:04Speaker 3: this is just a pissing match between giant tech companies.
- 33:09Speaker 3: I'd like to see age verification. I support age verification,
- 33:12Speaker 3: I'm pushing for it. But every Democrat opposes age verification.
- 33:16Speaker 3: So I said, listen, it's a simple math. If you
- 33:18Speaker 3: lose all the Democrats and if you're losing some Republicans,
- 33:23Speaker 3: I don't see how this passes.
- 33:24Speaker 4: Like it's just a math.
- 33:26Speaker 3: Like I'm not opposed to it, I will vote yes,
- 33:30Speaker 3: but how do you get to the votes to pass it?
- 33:34Speaker 3: There is additionally her bill no Fakes Now no Fakes.
- 33:38Speaker 3: I'm on the Judiciary Committee. Judiciary Committee has already passed
- 33:40Speaker 3: no Fakes. It was a voice vote. I was fine
- 33:43Speaker 3: with it. No Fakes has a lot of good elements
- 33:46Speaker 3: to it, So no fakes is protecting. Say you have
- 33:49Speaker 3: a musician and someone uses AI to create a fake
- 33:52Speaker 3: song for a musician, it makes you liable for that.
- 33:56Speaker 3: In politics. By the way, this is coming. It hasn't
- 34:00Speaker 3: really happened yet, but it's coming soon. You're going to
- 34:02Speaker 3: see someone create AI and take a video of a
- 34:05Speaker 3: politician a fake video and be like we should eat
- 34:10Speaker 3: live kittens, and it's going to be you're not going
- 34:14Speaker 3: to be able to tell that it's fake, like it's
- 34:16Speaker 3: going to appear to be the real problem.
- 34:18Speaker 2: You can have to respond to a ridiculous, absurd video, right.
- 34:22Speaker 3: And by the way, Amy Klovichar last year had a
- 34:25Speaker 3: video of a hearing where she said a bunch of
- 34:27Speaker 3: things that were derogatory that she would never have said,
- 34:31Speaker 3: but it looked entirely real and she had to respond
- 34:34Speaker 3: to that. That's going to explode a lot. So finding
- 34:38Speaker 3: some protections to say, look, someone can't use your name
- 34:41Speaker 3: image and likeness and create a counterfeit that nobody knows
- 34:46Speaker 3: is fake. I'm quite supportive of that. When the judiciary
- 34:51Speaker 3: passed this bill, there were several Republicans Mike Lee, Eric Schmidt,
- 34:56Speaker 3: and myself who raised free speech concern because the way
- 35:01Speaker 3: the language is written it's quite broad. So, for example,
- 35:03Speaker 3: Trump send out the meme of a Keem Jeffries and
- 35:08Speaker 3: Chuck Schumer wearing sombrero singing yes, now that was parody,
- 35:13Speaker 3: it wasn't real, and I've retweeted it then amplified it.
- 35:19Speaker 3: But there is an argument that under the language and
- 35:22Speaker 3: no fakes, that could be banned. Now there is some
- 35:27Speaker 3: language saying bonafide satire is okay, but there's a lot
- 35:32Speaker 3: of gray area. You think of Spencer Pratt and the
- 35:35Speaker 3: hysterical ads he put out with Gavin Newsom and Karen
- 35:40Speaker 3: Bass just like doing horrible things to people of California.
- 35:46Speaker 3: I have a concern that under the language and no fakes,
- 35:50Speaker 3: the tech platforms would take down those ads because they'd say,
- 35:54Speaker 3: you're using Gavin Newsom's image in a way that he
- 35:58Speaker 3: has not approved. And so my point was, look, I'd
- 36:02Speaker 3: love to see this get done, but I also want
- 36:05Speaker 3: to protect free speech. So my point to the President was, Hey,
- 36:09Speaker 3: if you want to endorse this, great, I've got no
- 36:11Speaker 3: problem with it, but you need to know that I
- 36:15Speaker 3: don't see a path that this actually gets to pass
- 36:18Speaker 3: in the Senate take sixty votes. Given that I don't
- 36:22Speaker 3: know of a single Democrat supporting this bill, and there
- 36:26Speaker 3: may be Republicans opposing this bill, the math doesn't work.
- 36:32Speaker 3: And so the President decided not to support it. Listen,
- 36:35Speaker 3: I still expect that we will take up in the
- 36:38Speaker 3: next couple of weeks a series of AI bills. And
- 36:41Speaker 3: by the way, we will do a podcast when we
- 36:43Speaker 3: do that markup where we talk about the AI bills
- 36:45Speaker 3: we pass. But what I'm trying to do right now
- 36:48Speaker 3: is find all right, let me use a Kamala Harris
- 36:50Speaker 3: phrase the ven diagram, that is the intersection of what
- 36:57Speaker 3: bills could make a positive impact protecting people from some
- 37:01Speaker 3: of the harms of AI yep, but at the same
- 37:04Speaker 3: time that have a real pass to passage. And so
- 37:08Speaker 3: we'll move several bills on that. But I'm trying to
- 37:11Speaker 3: find exactly the right intersection right there. And and so
- 37:15Speaker 3: we had that conversation, and the President agreed with me.
- 37:18Speaker 1: It's gonna be very interesting to see AI is changing
- 37:20Speaker 1: the world. We've talked about a lot here, We'll keep
- 37:22Speaker 1: talking about it. Don't forget. We do this show Monday, Wednesday, Friday.
