- 1:20All right, guys, let's kick the show off,
- 1:23shall we?
- 1:24This is Inspirational History of Life.
- 1:25As I said, it is Tuesday, April 7th,
- 1:292026.
- 1:31And we're doing this thing which is all
- 1:34about to think bigger than the moment, which
- 1:37is what we are today.
- 1:38Think bigger than the actual moment.
- 1:40Oh, everyone, I'm John C.
- 1:43Morley, serial entrepreneur, engineer, marketing specialist, video producer,
- 1:47podcast host, coach, keynote speaker, graduate student, and
- 1:49a passionate lifelong learner.
- 1:52And soon, guys, to be a published author.
- 1:54That's going to be very soon.
- 1:56The master topic for the week on Inspirational
- 1:59History of Life is how to rise into
- 2:02what's next in your life.
- 2:03So our granular topic fits that very, very
- 2:07well.
- 2:07So let me say something that might hit
- 2:10you hard.
- 2:11Are you ready, guys?
- 2:12Brace yourself.
- 2:13You're not overwhelmed because life is too much.
- 2:16Are you ready?
- 2:18You're overwhelmed because you're thinking too small for
- 2:23what you're facing.
- 2:24See, the moment you elevate your thinking, you
- 2:27don't just change how you feel.
- 2:30You change what's possible.
- 2:33Yes, I know.
- 2:35Put that in and try to sink your
- 2:38teeth into that for a little while.
- 2:39So let's move right into our first topic,
- 2:41which is number one, lift your view when
- 2:44you zoom out.
- 2:46So problems lose power and purpose gains clarity
- 2:51when you do this.
- 2:52But sometimes people get stuck in their ways
- 2:54and they don't do this for a host
- 2:58of many, many reasons.
- 2:59So let's stop making excuses and let's go
- 3:03ahead and start doing this.
- 3:05All right.
- 3:05Number two, guys, think beyond today's pressure.
- 3:10What feels urgent now is often irrelevant later.
- 3:14I know.
- 3:14It's like you worry about things and nine
- 3:16out of 10 of those things actually don't
- 3:18even come to pass and they actually turn
- 3:20into a ditch before you actually get to
- 3:22them.
- 3:23Number three, guys, urgency is not destiny.
- 3:26Just because something feels intense does not mean
- 3:29it defines your future.
- 3:31I know it may sound like that because
- 3:34everything's closing in around you, but it's not.
- 3:37Number four, guys, higher thinking calms and lower
- 3:43fear.
- 3:44So elevation will replace the panic with perspective.
- 3:48And I said, guys, when we have perspective,
- 3:50our life will change around us.
- 3:53Our life will change around us.
- 3:56And I think that's a very important thing
- 3:59to understand, is that perspectives become our reality.
- 4:04And our life is shaped from our perspectives.
- 4:07Does that make sense?
- 4:08I hope it does.
- 4:09Number five, look past the immediate mess.
- 4:13What you focus on determines what grows, what
- 4:16will flourish in your life.
- 4:17If you don't want something to grow, then
- 4:19take your attention away from that.
- 4:21What we attach to, we grow.
- 4:23What we detach to loses its energy and
- 4:27thus loses its ability to show up in
- 4:29your life.
- 4:30Number six, guys, your mindset sets your altitude.
- 4:35You will never rise above the level of
- 4:37your thinking.
- 4:39So start learning today that it's your mind
- 4:44that's creating a reality.
- 4:45Even if you're not getting that today, then
- 4:48you might say, John, it's not working.
- 4:49But you know, it's actually working behind the
- 4:51scenes.
- 4:51It's just things don't show up on your
- 4:53timeline.
- 4:54Unfortunately, guys, that is the ultimate truth.
- 4:58So learn to change your thinking.
- 5:01Wherever we put our thoughts, that's where energy
- 5:04is going to flow.
- 5:06So just remember that and make that a
- 5:09new staple in your daily practice.
- 5:12All right, guys, number seven, rise above small
- 5:16thinking.
- 5:16Limitation begins in the mind before it shows
- 5:19in life.
- 5:20So if we limit ourselves here, then we
- 5:24limit our body.
- 5:25And if we limit our body and our
- 5:26mind, we limit the potential possibility of our
- 5:28life.
- 5:28So let's realize that whatever we have up
- 5:31here can expand into our life.
- 5:33If we don't have it here, then we're
- 5:35blocking it from coming into our life.
- 5:37That's a very important thing that I want
- 5:39to show you.
- 5:39And I know you might say, John, but
- 5:40you don't understand my life.
- 5:42I don't care.
- 5:43It doesn't matter what your life is.
- 5:45The minute you change your thinking, okay, the
- 5:49minute you believe something is possible.
- 5:51Let's take my book, for example, which is
- 5:53about to be released very, very soon.
- 5:55Actually, I believe it's next.
- 5:57Not this Friday, guys.
- 6:00It's going to be next Friday.
- 6:02Wow, I can't believe it's finally coming out.
- 6:07That thought of producing a book was only
- 6:10a thought, but then I took the inspired
- 6:15action and I did the work and I
- 6:16created the book.
- 6:18Right?
- 6:19And that came because of my motivation, but
- 6:22because of my discipline that I wanted.
- 6:25Once I knew it was something I wanted,
- 6:27my discipline didn't stand in the way to
- 6:29make sure that I actually got it.
- 6:32Number eight, guys, bigger perspective creates better choices.
- 6:37A bigger perspective creates bigger choices and better
- 6:40choices.
- 6:40So when you think of big, vast, right,
- 6:45you have better choices and clarity produces a
- 6:47smarter action.
- 6:48Let's think about it like this.
- 6:49If you are a small fish and you're
- 6:56in a very small pond, your possibilities are
- 6:59limited.
- 7:00But if you're a small fish in a
- 7:01huge pond, well, that changes things, right?
- 7:05It changes the ability for that fish to
- 7:08grow into that potential.
- 7:10So if you are somebody that's looking at
- 7:12small opportunities, okay, if you look at large
- 7:17opportunities, then those can actually become a reality.
- 7:22But it's how you believe.
- 7:23I think that's the most important thing.
- 7:25How you believe is how it changes and
- 7:28how it works.
- 7:28But if you don't understand that, then I
- 7:30think that's a very important thing to understand.
- 7:34If you don't understand it, then you're saying
- 7:36to myself, oh, my gosh, John, I don't
- 7:38quite get it.
- 7:39I don't know what that means.
- 7:41But it's something that you can definitely do
- 7:43in your life every single day of your
- 7:47life.
- 7:47All right, guys, let's move on to point
- 7:50number nine.
- 7:51Are you ready for point number nine?
- 7:53Okay, point number nine is a very interesting
- 7:56one.
- 8:01And the thing I want to tell you
- 8:03is that your perspective changes your reality, okay?
- 8:10So start changing it today.
- 8:13Number nine is temporary discomfort is not final
- 8:15truth.
- 8:15It's not the final outcome.
- 8:16Just because it hurts or it's a little
- 8:18discomforting, it's usually not painful.
- 8:20It's just a little bit uncomfortable, right?
- 8:25It doesn't be your end all.
- 8:31And it doesn't mean that it lasts.
- 8:33If you ever had your wisdom tooth pulled
- 8:36or a tooth pulled, and, you know, that
- 8:39feeling, that discomfort was with you for a
- 8:42few days to a week.
- 8:43But then it went away, and it wasn't
- 8:45a pain.
- 8:46It was just a discomfort.
- 8:48The best way I can describe it is
- 8:49if you ever burnt your mouth.
- 8:51I don't want you to do that.
- 8:52But if you ever did, it feels funny.
- 8:54It feels different inside.
- 8:55And that feeling is uncomfortable, but it's not
- 9:00painful.
- 9:02And so where the uncomfort lies is where
- 9:05success starts to breed.
- 9:07I think that's important for us all to
- 9:08learn.
- 9:09Number 10, guys, stop shrinking to fit the
- 9:12moment.
- 9:13You were not built to stay small, okay?
- 9:16You were not built to stay small.
- 9:19And I think that's a very important thing
- 9:23to acknowledge is that whole moment, right?
- 9:31Is stop shrinking to fit the moment.
- 9:34You were not built to stay small and
- 9:36don't stay small.
- 9:38That's really, really important, guys.
- 9:41I mean, really important for you to understand.
- 9:43And if you understand that, then you'll start
- 9:46expanding.
- 9:47And the more that you expand, the more
- 9:49the things around you will expand.
- 9:51So when you get put into a small
- 9:54environment, you're limited.
- 9:56When you get put into a large environment,
- 9:59your capabilities grow.
- 10:01Number 11, guys, protect your mental horizon.
- 10:04What you allow into your mind shapes your
- 10:08direction, okay?
- 10:10And that's a key point that a lot
- 10:13of people miss, how it shapes our direction.
- 10:17It might not be immediately, but it does
- 10:19happen.
- 10:20Number 12, guys, choose perspective over panic.
- 10:24Control your thinking and you control your response.
- 10:27Learn to control your thinking because when we
- 10:32are controlled, we can make better decisions, better
- 10:38choices, and have a better outcome and therefore
- 10:42lead more optimally to success.
- 10:47Number 13, guys, think from the future backward.
- 10:51Act like the version of you that already
- 10:54succeeded.
- 10:55I already have all the things I need
- 10:57and I'm looking back from that point.
- 11:00And when we can see things as a
- 11:03repeat, it changes our entire life.
- 11:07It changes our entire perspective, all right?
- 11:12That's a real important one to think about
- 11:16because if we know this is possible, then
- 11:20we know that our life can change almost
- 11:23on a dime.
- 11:24Now, I'm not going to say that you're
- 11:26going to get the results overnight.
- 11:28I'm not going to say that to you.
- 11:29Definitely not going to say that to you.
- 11:31But what I am going to say to
- 11:33you is that if you are persistent, okay,
- 11:37what you persist will continue, all right?
- 11:41But if you give up too early, you
- 11:44could miss that opportunity.
- 11:46That's a real important one.
- 11:48So think backward as if you already have
- 11:50something and then, you know, refer to that
- 11:56as already having it.
- 11:59Your body gets confused and doesn't know whether
- 12:01you have it or not and therefore, it
- 12:04expects it.
- 12:06Number 14, guys, live from principle, not pressure.
- 12:10Too many people I talk to, regardless of
- 12:12their age or their job title or function
- 12:16or role in life, they're all thinking from
- 12:19pressure because that's how corporate America has taught
- 12:23them.
- 12:24Corporate America has taught people that everything is
- 12:28about the dollar, but it's not about the
- 12:30value.
- 12:30It's not about the service.
- 12:31It's not about the product.
- 12:33It's about how much money we can squeeze
- 12:35out of people by eliciting the least amount
- 12:41of values and accountability as possible every time.
- 12:45I'm not saying everybody does this, but I'm
- 12:47saying that it's the way a lot of
- 12:50publicly traded companies operate today.
- 12:53And this is what's kind of hurting corporate
- 12:55America.
- 12:58You know, we think of companies like the
- 12:59ones I own.
- 13:00They're not large, you know, 10 million employee
- 13:03companies.
- 13:04But I like that because we're about value.
- 13:07We're about truth.
- 13:08We're about accountability.
- 13:10Where you go to a lot of these
- 13:10people and your concept gets lost in the
- 13:14wind, just being honest.
- 13:16Number 15, keep your eyes above the nose.
- 13:20Huh?
- 13:21What do you mean, John?
- 13:22I'm talking about distraction destroys direction.
- 13:25When you've got a distraction, it's going to
- 13:27interrupt your progress.
- 13:31And then you're going to lose hope.
- 13:34You're going to lose the thought that the
- 13:37potential is even possible.
- 13:38When the potential is even more than possible,
- 13:41it's just that you have to believe in
- 13:44yourself.
- 13:45That's really key, guys.
- 13:48Number 16, vision makes the discomfort of the
- 13:52pain lighter.
- 13:53And it really does.
- 13:55Purpose changes how you experience the struggle that
- 13:59you are going through.
- 14:02What do I mean by that?
- 14:05Whether it's academics, whether it's sports.
- 14:08When you know why you're doing this or
- 14:11why you want to lose the weight or
- 14:12why you want to gain your degree, when
- 14:16you know the why, it makes the challenge
- 14:21that much more fun and more meaningful that
- 14:25you've got to achieve it.
- 14:27Number 17, think in decades, act today.
- 14:32Long-term thinking creates the short-term discipline.
- 14:35Let me say that again.
- 14:36Think in decades, act today.
- 14:38Long-term thinking will create the short-term
- 14:41discipline, which will last decades.
- 14:43But too many people are saying to me,
- 14:45John, well, you know, I did this for
- 14:48one day, two days, three days, 47 days,
- 14:50I did it for 14 days, but I
- 14:52didn't see anything.
- 14:55Okay, so now I'm going to stop.
- 15:00Well, why are you going to stop?
- 15:01Because I'm not seeing anything.
- 15:03But you just started.
- 15:04You've only been doing this a month.
- 15:05You've only been doing this a week.
- 15:06You've only been doing this three days.
- 15:10The human mind and body gets very, how
- 15:14can I say, finicky with the fact that
- 15:15it has not seen an ROI or results.
- 15:18Do the act and keep doing it until
- 15:21it becomes a habit.
- 15:23When you forget that it's a habit and
- 15:25you keep doing it, that's when the results
- 15:28start to pay off.
- 15:29When you keep saying, oh my gosh, is
- 15:30it working yet?
- 15:33Has it become a habit yet?
- 15:35When it's become a habit and you just
- 15:37do it and something pops up, oh, that
- 15:40good habit made a change for me.
- 15:42Number 18, elevation changes your interpretation.
- 15:47What once looked like failure becomes feedback.
- 15:54Feedback allows us to change the courses that
- 15:57we take and change the direction.
- 16:00Feedback from a GPS, we're going the wrong
- 16:01way?
- 16:03Please make a legal U-turn as soon
- 16:05as possible.
- 16:07Or rerouting at the next traffic light, make
- 16:11a right.
- 16:12Then make the left onto Mountain Street.
- 16:15You get the idea.
- 16:16So, it gets you back on track.
- 16:18I think sometimes when we don't have a
- 16:21definitive way to get back on track, we're
- 16:24lost.
- 16:26And the difference between being lost, knowing you're
- 16:29lost, and getting away back is a big
- 16:31difference.
- 16:31So, if you're lost and you don't know
- 16:35how to get information or how to get
- 16:36back, you may stay lost for a very
- 16:38long time.
- 16:39There's another kind of loss where you think
- 16:42you know where you're going, but you're actually
- 16:43lost and you get more lost by the
- 16:46moment.
- 16:47When you know you're lost and you have
- 16:49a plan to get back on track, that's
- 16:51when success happens.
- 16:55Number 19, do not, do not, do not,
- 16:59do not, do not let the low moment
- 17:01define the whole story in your life.
- 17:03Let me say that again.
- 17:04Do not let the low moment or moments
- 17:07define the whole story in your life because
- 17:09they are not.
- 17:09They are nearly a chapter.
- 17:11That one chapter is not your ending.
- 17:14It is one part of your life.
- 17:19One chapter.
- 17:21Somebody has a bad chapter and they're like,
- 17:23oh, I'm done with life.
- 17:27When you hopefully read my book later on,
- 17:30you're going to see the challenges I went
- 17:31through and how these challenges for me were
- 17:36not just things I had to do, but
- 17:37things that really resonated with me and they
- 17:42caused me to change my entire trajectory of
- 17:45where I was going or I would not
- 17:47be where I am today.
- 17:49That's the important thing.
- 17:51You know, I didn't have a podcast or
- 17:54several podcast shows 14 years ago.
- 17:58Didn't have it.
- 18:01I had a little tiny radio show.
- 18:04Very tiny.
- 18:07And one of the challenges, I didn't talk
- 18:09about in my book, I had somebody actually
- 18:14pay money for my spot.
- 18:19And when the station found that my spot
- 18:22was worth so much money, they took me
- 18:24off the air.
- 18:27I'd never work with that station again.
- 18:29And their attitude was, John, you're too good
- 18:32to not catch on.
- 18:33You'll do great.
- 18:34And they were right.
- 18:36But hitting me below the belt, that wasn't
- 18:38the way you build a bridge.
- 18:41It's the way you break one.
- 18:43A wise person once said to me, John,
- 18:44you know, you may not know how to
- 18:46build the bridge in life.
- 18:48And that's okay.
- 18:49Let the bridge be built for you.
- 18:52When it happens, proudly and gratefully walk across
- 18:56that bridge.
- 18:58That's what our subconscious will do.
- 19:01When we put the idea in our subconscious,
- 19:03the bridge and the circumstances will come into
- 19:06exact alignment for us to walk across that
- 19:09bridge.
- 19:10With that element of gratitude, humbleness, being proud.
- 19:19Number 20, guys, learn to train your mind
- 19:23upward.
- 19:24Growth is not automatic.
- 19:25It is intentional.
- 19:28So growth doesn't happen because you just want
- 19:31it.
- 19:31Growth has to happen because you have said,
- 19:37this aligns with my core values.
- 19:39Now, maybe you haven't said those words directly,
- 19:40but that's why your growth happens.
- 19:42It's because it aligns with your core values.
- 19:46Those are the things that you hold so
- 19:47near and dear to your heart, that you
- 19:50live your life for.
- 19:54There, what gives your why?
- 19:57It's loudness.
- 19:58And when I need loudness, I don't mean
- 19:59being loud.
- 20:00I mean, giving it the value, giving it
- 20:03you the motivation, giving you the nudges that,
- 20:07hey, I got to stick with this.
- 20:09When I had my broken tib and fib,
- 20:11it was an easy time.
- 20:13I'm not going to reveal the whole thing
- 20:14here, but being able to do that day
- 20:18in and day out, and it was only
- 20:20a few months of discomfort.
- 20:23And also, I talked about how I felt,
- 20:25how others felt, and how that whole thing
- 20:27changed my life.
- 20:29You're definitely going to want to read that
- 20:30book.
- 20:31Number 21, wider perspective reduces fear.
- 20:37Clarity replaces anxiety.
- 20:39It does, guys.
- 20:40Clarity will replace anxiety time in and time
- 20:43out.
- 20:45But too many people don't sit around to
- 20:48get clarity.
- 20:50They're like, oh, it doesn't make sense.
- 20:51So we're just going to stop.
- 20:53Stop what?
- 20:54Well, I don't understand.
- 20:55So we're just going to stop.
- 20:56So because you don't understand something, you're going
- 20:58to give up.
- 21:00Well, I'm not giving up.
- 21:01I'm stopping.
- 21:01Well, let me lighten you up here.
- 21:04If you stop with no intention of going
- 21:07back, you've quit it.
- 21:10And I know we're not quitters here, but
- 21:12I know the circumstances might drive us to
- 21:14quit.
- 21:15So we might need to take a pause
- 21:17in our life.
- 21:18We might need to step back.
- 21:19But don't you dare quit.
- 21:21I'm telling you right now.
- 21:23Because there's so much out there for you
- 21:25to have if you just believe.
- 21:32Number 22, guys, set your attention where growth
- 21:36lives.
- 21:37What you focus on expands.
- 21:41What you focus on expands.
- 21:44Just like the concept of our thoughts create
- 21:48our reality.
- 21:49What we focus on, the thoughts that we
- 21:54focus on, whatever we focus on, that's where
- 21:56the energy flows to.
- 21:59There's always going to be people in your
- 22:00life, they're going to be like, oh, I
- 22:02don't know.
- 22:02I don't know.
- 22:02I don't know.
- 22:03I don't know.
- 22:04But you need to stay on your course.
- 22:08I don't care if it's raining.
- 22:10I don't care if it's snowing.
- 22:12You get my point.
- 22:13I don't care what excuse gets thrown your
- 22:16way.
- 22:17I don't care if you break a leg.
- 22:18I don't care if you get injured in
- 22:20other ways.
- 22:21I don't care if you have a cold
- 22:22or what it is that you have.
- 22:26That is a minor setback and excuse to
- 22:31not allow you to go forward.
- 22:33I did all these things while I had
- 22:34my broken tib and fib.
- 22:36I didn't allow that tib and fib to
- 22:40get in the way of what I wanted
- 22:42to get done in life.
- 22:43It was a little bit harder.
- 22:45It was more challenging.
- 22:46People thought I was nuts, but guys, I
- 22:51persevered.
- 22:52I got through it and it changed my
- 22:54life.
- 22:55Did I know that 12, 14 years later,
- 22:58I was going to write a book about
- 23:00me breaking my tib and fib and how
- 23:03that whole experience changed my life?
- 23:05No, I didn't know.
- 23:07I knew that when I broke the tib
- 23:09and fib, I just know, oh my gosh,
- 23:10what am I going to do now?
- 23:12And that first moment was now what happens
- 23:16to my life.
- 23:17Like that happened, but then within 24 hours,
- 23:20I snapped out of that moment because we
- 23:22all like, oh my gosh, now what do
- 23:23I do?
- 23:24What do I do?
- 23:25What do I do?
- 23:26Again, I'm not telling you the whole book,
- 23:28but I changed.
- 23:31First, it seemed like a subtle shift and
- 23:35then it was like a big light went
- 23:37on and I just kept moving toward the
- 23:40bigger light and that bigger light actually helped
- 23:43me change my trajectory.
- 23:45Number 23, guys, refuse the gravity of negativity.
- 23:50I know negativity is heavy and it can
- 23:52weigh you down.
- 23:52You're not required to stay low.
- 23:57No, negative people in situations and circumstances, they're
- 24:00everywhere.
- 24:01So we have to be filters.
- 24:03We have to block those things.
- 24:06We have to keep those things that are
- 24:08draining our energy away.
- 24:09Like I talked before about people, good people
- 24:12that you're around.
- 24:14You feel like your energy is kind of
- 24:16recharged.
- 24:17Those are the people you want to be
- 24:18with and usually they will find that you
- 24:21charge them as well.
- 24:24But if you're around somebody and they're taking
- 24:26your energy, they might be the nicest people
- 24:29in the world, but they're draining your energy.
- 24:34It's actually taking your cup.
- 24:36So you can't be full.
- 24:38So you can't have the success you want
- 24:41because your cup's never full.
- 24:42And if your cup is never full, you
- 24:45can never help yourself.
- 24:46And if you can't help yourself, you cannot
- 24:48even begin to want to help other people.
- 24:51If you want to, you won't have the
- 24:52strength or the energy.
- 24:54Number 24, high standards require high thinking.
- 24:57You cannot build big with small beliefs, right?
- 25:01Let's take Disney for a moment, right?
- 25:04Disney could not build big on its beliefs
- 25:08if it didn't believe that it could.
- 25:16That's a very important one, guys.
- 25:19Very important one, very important one.
- 25:23Number 25, mental elevation creates emotional stability and
- 25:27it creates this inner sense of calmness.
- 25:31So why wouldn't we want to elevate ourselves
- 25:34up to the highest level, to the highest
- 25:35standard?
- 25:37Number 26, guys, choose what lasts.
- 25:41Temporary wins do not build permanent success.
- 25:47They don't.
- 25:49They usually wind up taking things from you
- 25:52and they don't allow you to grow.
- 25:56Number 27, let meaning outrank the mood all
- 26:00the time.
- 26:01Discipline beats emotion every single time.
- 26:06Thought leadership starts inside the mind and body.
- 26:11Before you lead others, you must lead your
- 26:13own thinking first.
- 26:16Like I said, you've got to have that
- 26:17cup for yourself full.
- 26:20If you don't, you can never begin to
- 26:23help others.
- 26:26That's important, guys.
- 26:29You lead others.
- 26:31You must lead your own thinking first.
- 26:34Number 29, see from above, not below.
- 26:38Distance creates power and clarity.
- 26:42It creates power and it creates clarity.
- 26:47So by us being removed from a situation,
- 26:49we're able to get a different perspective on
- 26:54something.
- 26:55And when something happens like that, usually we
- 26:58will get a retuning to be clear on
- 27:02the objective.
- 27:04Think higher than the moment, guys.
- 27:07Your future depends on your perspective and you
- 27:10create it every single day.
- 27:13If this spoke to you guys, here is
- 27:17your next move.
- 27:18Stop reacting to what is happening right now.
- 27:20Start thinking about what you are going to
- 27:22do.
- 27:23Because the truth is, you do not rise
- 27:25by fixing every problem.
- 27:27You rise by outgrowing the level of thinking
- 27:29that created them.
- 27:30The moment you think bigger than the moment
- 27:32you are in, you take back your power.
- 27:36You gain clarity, you regain control, and you
- 27:38stop into this new way and become a
- 27:41version of yourself that is no longer limited
- 27:43by what is in front of you.
- 27:44You're not stuck.
- 27:45You're just thinking too small for where you
- 27:48are meant to go.
