- 0:00Speaker 1: As we continue to navigate your way through a hump
- 0:03Speaker 1: day a yacht rock Wednesday reminder Tonight Texas Women's basketball
- 0:07Speaker 1: at seven o'clock from Moody Center, as the Longhorns will
- 0:11Speaker 1: be taking on the Jaguars of Southern University. We're gonna
- 0:14Speaker 1: hear from Vic Schaeffer. He did his media zoom. It
- 0:18Speaker 1: was extensive enough to where we wanted to. We split
- 0:20Speaker 1: it up in the parts we're worrying you, one part
- 0:23Speaker 1: of it coming up in the next segment and then
- 0:24Speaker 1: one in the four o'clock hour as well, So we'll
- 0:28Speaker 1: do that. Just updating you on a couple of baseball things.
- 0:34Speaker 1: The Winter meetings are going on a big trade between
- 0:37Speaker 1: the Red Sox and the White Sox. See, I don't
- 0:41Speaker 1: know that Gene Watson was necessarily playing possum with us
- 0:43Speaker 1: on Monday was two days ago, but we'll get into
- 0:47Speaker 1: recap it all and it's done. They did send left
- 0:52Speaker 1: hander Garrett Crochet to the White Sicks. You know, Crochet
- 0:56Speaker 1: was the guy the Dodgers wanted when they made the trade,
- 0:58Speaker 1: that three way trade with the White Socks and the Cardinals,
- 1:01Speaker 1: which proving to be I'm gonna say in Los Angeles
- 1:05Speaker 1: Dodger history. One of the greatest trades I've ever made,
- 1:08Speaker 1: the prospects they sent when they got Tommy Evan from
- 1:10Speaker 1: the Cardinals. All he did was be the MVP of
- 1:14Speaker 1: the NLCS when they won the Nation League Championship Series.
- 1:18Speaker 1: And then the other guy they got was the closer,
- 1:22Speaker 1: Michael Kopak, and it turned out to be great. Kopek
- 1:26Speaker 1: did a heck of a job for them the rest
- 1:27Speaker 1: of the regular season in the postseason, but that was
- 1:30Speaker 1: they took Colepeck because they couldn't get Garrett Crochet and
- 1:35Speaker 1: they you know, had had to alter their thinking a
- 1:41Speaker 1: little bit, and so they ended up getting Crochet or
- 1:47Speaker 1: did not get him. They ended up getting Copek. And
- 1:50Speaker 1: so now the White Sox have traded Crochet to the
- 1:53Speaker 1: Red Sox in exchange for catcher Kyle Teal, outfielder Braden Montgomery,
- 2:00Speaker 1: remember Braid Montgomery, infielder Chase Maydroth, and right hander this
- 2:09Speaker 1: is really his name, Wicklman Gonzalez.
- 2:13Speaker 2: Wickleman Gonzalez is his name.
- 2:17Speaker 1: So anyway, there's the that's the one big deal that
- 2:22Speaker 1: has happened so far. Today, there's a lot of rumor
- 2:27Speaker 1: about Nolan Aronado. He may wind up with the Yankees
- 2:30Speaker 1: or a couple others. Hey, yeah, happy that Nathan Vivaldi's
- 2:33Speaker 1: going back to the Rangers.
- 2:34Speaker 2: Three year deal. I am. I think seventy five million.
- 2:37Speaker 3: That's a little bit over what he was projected to
- 2:39Speaker 3: get going into this off season. But hey, he was
- 2:43Speaker 3: a huge part of the twenty three year old Series championship.
- 2:47Speaker 3: Excited to have him back in the fold next year.
- 2:48Speaker 1: How about getting Jake Berger from the Marlins. Rangers got
- 2:52Speaker 1: him too. They got him in exchange for two shortstop prospects,
- 2:58Speaker 1: is Dry Vargas and Maxicosta. Uh and Max a Coosta
- 3:02Speaker 1: played a round rock, didn't didn't you?
- 3:04Speaker 2: I thought, I remember listening to Brian.
- 3:05Speaker 1: I don't think he was there, Okay, Max Acosta and
- 3:10Speaker 1: a young left handed starting pitcher in Brian Mendoza. Berger,
- 3:15Speaker 1: who's twenty eight years old, is as controllable as they say.
- 3:20Speaker 1: For four years, he had sixty three home runs with
- 3:23Speaker 1: the Marlins and the White Sox over the past two years.
- 3:27Speaker 2: Dude was a Dodger killer.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Every time the Dodgers played the Marlins, Jake Berger was
- 3:31Speaker 1: hitting a freaking home run or two.
- 3:34Speaker 2: He was.
- 3:35Speaker 1: He was something else. So anyway, I think that's a
- 3:38Speaker 1: good pick up for the Rangers. Corner endfielder, who can
- 3:40Speaker 1: who can belt the ball a little bit. I think
- 3:42Speaker 1: that's that's that's pretty good for Texas.
- 3:44Speaker 3: Yeah, getting some offensive help for this next year's team
- 3:48Speaker 3: is top of the priority list because the offense last
- 3:51Speaker 3: year was not great and so improving that, but then
- 3:54Speaker 3: their bat is huge.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Yeah. A couple of awards.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Now, a long time Cleveland Now Guardians broadcaster Tom Hamilton,
- 4:04Speaker 1: I'm been doing it thirty five years was he won
- 4:07Speaker 1: the Ford Frick Award. That means he'll be inducted into
- 4:09Speaker 1: the Baseball Hall of Fame. So congratulate and by the way,
- 4:14Speaker 1: congratulations my good friend, play by play voice of the
- 4:17Speaker 1: Baylor Bears, John Morris. He was awarded with the Christiankle
- 4:21Speaker 1: Award for College Football Broadcasting Excellence at that college football
- 4:26Speaker 1: banquet out in Las Vegas. So congratulations to Jamo. Great
- 4:31Speaker 1: well earned and all around great guys as we always know. Okay,
- 4:35Speaker 1: here's the story that I saved, and I didn't want
- 4:39Speaker 1: to get into it. I'd originally thought I might put
- 4:42Speaker 1: it an inconceivable because it's that goofy, but I decided
- 4:47Speaker 1: not to it deserved its own special place.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Here's the headline.
- 4:52Speaker 1: Cam flag planting at Ohio State would be a felony
- 4:57Speaker 1: under a proposed law.
- 4:59Speaker 2: Oh gos.
- 5:01Speaker 3: You know, there was two two events today. There was
- 5:05Speaker 3: this and then did you see the thing that I
- 5:07Speaker 3: think yesterday the Georgia dude, Yeah, that was yesterday. Who
- 5:10Speaker 3: voted for that?
- 5:11Speaker 1: Yeah, Georgia congressman who said wanted a resolution of Texas
- 5:15Speaker 1: be sent back to the Big twelve.
- 5:18Speaker 3: He was grand standing because Georgia won the game. Okay,
- 5:20Speaker 3: that's cool whatever you said that Georgia smoked Texas. Yeah,
- 5:23Speaker 3: and overtime.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, Well it's political rhetoric as we know.
- 5:29Speaker 2: But anyway, how about this one.
- 5:31Speaker 1: If Ohio state representative, not Ohio State University a state
- 5:35Speaker 1: representative Josh Williams gets his way, teams attempting to plant
- 5:42Speaker 1: their flags in the middle of Ohio Stadium during Ohio
- 5:46Speaker 1: State games will be dealing with more than.
- 5:48Speaker 2: Just the pepper spray like they had at the deal.
- 5:50Speaker 1: Williams introduced to bill yesterday that would classify flag planting
- 5:55Speaker 1: at Ohio Stadium around Buckeye's football games as a felony.
- 6:00Speaker 1: The dot H DOT I dot Dot Sportsmanship Act, authored
- 6:06Speaker 1: by Williams, comes in response to Michigan's attempt to plant
- 6:10Speaker 1: its flag after a November thirtieth win at Ohio State
- 6:14Speaker 1: that set off the brawl between the teams, and police
- 6:16Speaker 1: had to employ pepper spray to separate players another team personnel.
- 6:21Speaker 1: Ohio State University Police are investigating the incident, which involved
- 6:24Speaker 1: multiple law enforcement agencies and resulted in an injury to
- 6:27Speaker 1: an officer. According to Williams bill, no person shall plan
- 6:32Speaker 1: a flag pole with a flag attached to it in
- 6:35Speaker 1: the center of the football field at Ohio Stadium of
- 6:39Speaker 1: the Ohio State University on the day of a college
- 6:42Speaker 1: football competition, whether before, during, or after the competition. Whoever
- 6:47Speaker 1: violates this section is guilty of a felony of the
- 6:51Speaker 1: fifth degree.
- 6:52Speaker 2: It's the LAE severe in Ohio.
- 6:54Speaker 1: Kerrey is a penalty of six to twelve months in prison,
- 6:56Speaker 1: up to twenty five hundred dollars fine, and up to
- 6:59Speaker 1: five years pro bation.
- 7:01Speaker 2: So yeah, So.
- 7:06Speaker 1: The the two year General Assembly closes next week, so
- 7:10Speaker 1: this Sportsmanship Act likely will need to be reintroduced in
- 7:13Speaker 1: the next cycle.
- 7:14Speaker 2: Again, it's a grand standing thing, is what that is.
- 7:18Speaker 2: So what's what's the downside of a flag planning?
- 7:21Speaker 3: Just might lead to a fight on the football field,
- 7:23Speaker 3: But that happens all the time, anything in.
- 7:24Speaker 2: Danger and all that kind of stuff.
- 7:26Speaker 1: And there was pepper spray to boy said, an officer
- 7:29Speaker 1: was injured and all that other kind of stuff. And
- 7:30Speaker 1: they're saying this is more about just being a little
- 7:34Speaker 1: bit but hurt, just a little bit, you know, a
- 7:37Speaker 1: little bit upset about that deal. So anyway, that's it's
- 7:43Speaker 1: all Baker Mayfield's fault because he was the first thing
- 7:45Speaker 1: to do it, right, he is the first to do
- 7:46Speaker 1: it Wio State, you know, waved the flag. Yeah, he
- 7:49Speaker 1: was the first to do it. And remember who opens
- 7:52Speaker 1: the season in Columbus next year. I'd be here Texas
- 7:55Speaker 1: long orangs they would not be trying to plan a flag.
- 7:58Speaker 1: They didn't even they weren't even trying to plant a
- 8:01Speaker 1: flag in College Station, which by the way, is natural grass,
- 8:05Speaker 1: so that would have been easier to do that on
- 8:06Speaker 1: field turf. But they weren't trying to. They were just
- 8:08Speaker 1: kind of gathering around and Makuba kicked up some dirt
- 8:11Speaker 1: or where there was something thing, but there was a
- 8:13Speaker 1: sark got out there quickly and because no, no.
- 8:15Speaker 2: No, we're not doing that. We're not doing it going
- 8:17Speaker 2: in take it on in, and they did and they
- 8:19Speaker 2: did so.
- 8:21Speaker 1: Uh anyway that I just thought it was an interesting,
- 8:25Speaker 1: uh an interesting take on all of that. All Right,
- 8:28Speaker 1: coming up, we're gonna hear from Loghorn women's head basketball
- 8:32Speaker 1: coach Vick Schaeffer on the eve of tonight's matchup with
- 8:35Speaker 1: Southern here on sports Radio AM thirteen under the Zone.
