- 0:00You wake up on the shores of an inky expanse, the sea of ink in
- 0:12the dark. Ahead of you, a speck blinks of
- 0:14light and pulses as you move deeper into the void.
- 0:23As you reach to touch it, it inscribes strange glyphs into
- 0:29the air, some unknown language. The light begins to surge,
- 0:35growing brighter and brighter until all you can see is light,
- 0:39and then gone. A moment later it blinks a light
- 0:45by your side, bound to you so. I threw them into the sea.
- 0:56Maybe this is the one nib? Then the poor soul is a needless
- 1:02You know as well as I that they are unable to speak or to bind.
- 1:07But they've bound a new quill. Arthur knows they don't like
- 1:10those needless very much, so something has to be going on.
- 1:14That makes no sense. These stories have been fading
- 1:18long before more quills started showing up.
- 1:21Best leave the needless to fall right back in the sea where they
- 1:24came. Aw, why don't we at least let
- 1:28them choose their aspect and forms first?
- 1:30You'd be a shame to not even see what they choose to be.
- 2:42You needless looks like you're not dead yet, so that's a good
- 2:46sign. And the form you chose is
- 2:49wonderful. Yes, you've bound to Quill.
- 2:54Quite unusual. It seems the ink has plans for
- 2:58you. Oh yes, it does.
- 3:01You've already performed bindings and everything.
- 3:03Quite the spectacle it was. Yes, a needless and a binder.
- 3:11Well, the guardian ahead will not be as kind should you defeat
- 3:15it. Perhaps you and your quill truly
- 3:18are fated for something grander than the sea, or not.
- 4:45Well, it seems you're a binder of some strength, though you
- 4:49will continue to find these anomalies spread throughout our
- 4:53worlds. They're taking all the ink away
- 4:57from us, making our stories fade away bad, little unravelled bad.
- 5:03For now, though, it's time you leave this place and venture to
- 5:07the Athenium, the center and stronghold for all these worlds.
- 5:12They don't like us much in there, so best if we say our
- 5:16goodbyes for now. But don't you worry, we'll see
- 5:19you soon. The ink is not yet finished with
- 5:22you needless. Your form is young and still
- 5:25without purpose. But trust in your quill and you
- 5:29may just find it. You appear inside a cavernous
- 5:46hall, packed with emptiness but full of stories.
- 5:51A massive clock of books and gears looms above the expanse.
- 5:55Tick, tick. Ticking away from the countless
- 6:00black depths. Damp breezes moan to life and
- 6:05stir the pages strewn about the rubble.
- 6:08Your quill urges you deeper into the cavernous space.
- 6:18Arthur be damned, another one all you needless just traipsing
- 6:25here, still damp from the sea from which you crawled.
- 6:29I thought that Julie the Inkbound had created you with
- 6:32more sense than that, yet you all continue to surprise me.
- 6:38Well, you're in the Athenian now.
- 6:41Needless that no binder worth their words is going to give you
- 6:46unfettered access to our stories without a proper proving.
- 6:51A short dive into the inkwell should give us a good idea of
- 6:55you, and at the very least not a little sense into that empty
- 7:01head. Try not to drown too quickly.
- 7:07The source of the ticking, a giant wheel of books and gears
- 7:11which all paths lead to the heart of the Athenian.
- 7:17Don't you touch that bindery, needless, or your next dive into
- 7:21the inkwell will be your last. If even one book shifts out of
- 7:25place, the world's to which you travel might collapse entirely.
- 7:33Not a heart then, a brain. Maybe it's this way?
- 7:53Another needless, always a welcome sight to see another one
- 7:56of you running around our worlds.
- 7:59You are the ones doing the hard work after all.
- 8:02Oh, the inbound is trying I'm sure, but you are the ones
- 8:07actually fighting those villains.
- 8:09Nasty creatures, but you'll see that soon enough.
- 8:14Oh, and you can call me the Scribe, but honestly, it's best
- 8:20you keep our meeting between us. Not that you can tell anyone
- 8:25even if you wanted to. The sea of ink lapse against the
- 8:29straight edge blocks you walk along.
- 8:32You're back again. But it's not quite the same sea,
- 8:37is it? You can make out the edges of
- 8:40stories just beyond the horizon. No, there's intent and form
- 8:45here. Underneath the brush you can
- 9:15make out the remnants of a once well manicured garden that's
- 9:19been lost to time and neglect. The overgrown forest the towers
- 9:26over you now retains some of that stillness, but none of the
- 9:30peace, only danger and hostility.
- 14:57None. None.
- 17:05Nice job with those unraveled so far, but you ain't lived until
- 17:10you fought a Raven as big as a house.
- 17:13Though you probably have a lot more holes in you.
- 17:15What you do welly? Well, you're a shiny new
- 17:22Needless, aren't you? Got a quill and everything.
- 17:25Bet you got quillins to spare too.
- 17:29Well, be by and be moving. This place ain't kind to idlers.
- 18:52You not dry if you're to be counted amongst our ranks, at
- 18:57least wipe. Your feet are damned.
- 19:03This Sithenian will drown in the filthy track in well before the
- 19:07sea takes us. Be grateful the Inkbound places
- 19:11more faith in you than do I. Since you've decided to return,
- 19:20you'll find a few more of us that remain here.
- 19:23The Unraveled left us thin in numbers.
- 19:28We scattered after, but many have begun to return.
- 19:36You were made to serve needless, so meet the other binders of the
- 19:42Athenian and help them in whatever meagre ways you can.
- 19:49Early then. Oh, well, hello, I'm the
- 19:56counselor. Used to be a lot more of us
- 19:59counselors, that is, and everyone else, I guess, but just
- 20:02me now. We, well just me now, make the
- 20:08rules around here more like laws.
- 20:10I guess it's a bit complicated. Mostly it just means that I
- 20:14record things that people do other people.
- 20:19Which reminds me, I've got a list of specific things I need
- 20:23down on the board behind me. Changes day-to-day, but if
- 20:26you're free and you don't mind, any help you give would be
- 20:30helpful.
