- 0:00Speaker 1: Chapter nineteen. The just. A man is not just if
- 0:07Speaker 1: he carries a matter by violence. No, he who distinguishes
- 0:13Speaker 1: both right and wrong, who is learned and leads others
- 0:19Speaker 1: not by violence, but by law and equity, and who
- 0:24Speaker 1: is guarded by the law and intelligent, he is called just.
- 0:30Speaker 1: A man is not learned because he talks much. He
- 0:35Speaker 1: who is patient, free from hatred and fear, he is
- 0:40Speaker 1: called learned. A man is not a supporter of the
- 0:46Speaker 1: law because he talks much. Even if a man has
- 0:50Speaker 1: learnt little, but sees the law bodily, he is a
- 0:54Speaker 1: supporter of the law. A man who never neglects the law.
- 1:02Speaker 1: A man is not an elder because his head is gray.
- 1:06Speaker 1: His age may be ripe, but he is called old
- 1:10Speaker 1: in vain. He in whom there is truth, virtue, love, restraint, moderation,
- 1:21Speaker 1: He who is free from impurity and is wise, he
- 1:26Speaker 1: is called an elder. An envious, greedy, dishonest man does
- 1:34Speaker 1: not become respectable by means of much talking only, or
- 1:38Speaker 1: by the beauty of his complexion. He in whom all
- 1:44Speaker 1: this is destroyed and taken out with a very root, He,
- 1:51Speaker 1: when freed from hatred and wise, is called respectable. Not
- 1:58Speaker 1: by tonsure does an undisciplined man who speaks falsehood become
- 2:03Speaker 1: a samana. Can a man be a samana who is
- 2:07Speaker 1: still held captive by desire and greediness? He who always
- 2:15Speaker 1: quiets the evil, whether small or large, he is called
- 2:20Speaker 1: a samana. A quiet man because he has quieted all evil.
- 2:28Speaker 1: A man is not a mendicant bicshu simply because he
- 2:33Speaker 1: asks others for alms. He who adopts the whole law
- 2:38Speaker 1: is a bichu. Not he who only begs. He who
- 2:45Speaker 1: is above good and evil, who is chaste, who with
- 2:50Speaker 1: knowledge passes through the world. He indeed is called a
- 2:55Speaker 1: bic shu. A man is not a moi because he
- 3:01Speaker 1: observes silence mona, that is mauna if he is foolish
- 3:08Speaker 1: and ignorant. But the wise, who taking the balance, chooses
- 3:15Speaker 1: the good and avoids evil, he is a moony and
- 3:19Speaker 1: is a mooney. Thereby, he who in this world weighs
- 3:24Speaker 1: both sides is called a mooni. A man is not
- 3:30Speaker 1: an elect riya because he injures living creatures, because he
- 3:37Speaker 1: has pity on all living creatures. Therefore is a man
- 3:42Speaker 1: called arriya. Not only by discipline and vows not only
- 3:50Speaker 1: by much learning, not by entering into a trance, not
- 3:56Speaker 1: by sleeping alone, do I, in the happiness of release,
- 4:01Speaker 1: which no worldling can know? Pict be not confident as
- 4:09Speaker 1: long as thou hast not attained the extinction of desires.
- 4:17Speaker 1: End of chapter nineteen.
