Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to Outspoken. It's your bite-sized dose of
- 0:04Speaker 1: the hottest influencer and pop culture news this festive season.
- 0:08Speaker 1: I'm Kate Torber and coming up on today's show, Sarah's
- 0:12Speaker 1: Day's Beach House Woes, Matt Sikowsky drops details about last
- 0:16Speaker 1: Christmas with the Hembros, And our Friday debrief. But first,
- 0:20Speaker 1: Bunnings have launched their own version of Labooboos. So they're
- 0:23Speaker 1: called the Bunnings Mystery Box Mini Bears, and they are
- 0:26Speaker 1: all over my For You page. They've gone completely viral.
- 0:29Speaker 1: I really wanted one of these, but I saw on
- 0:31Speaker 1: TikTok that they've already sold out. Well, I can see why,
- 0:33Speaker 1: because they were only $ 12. 50, and there were people lining
- 0:36Speaker 1: up at like 5am waiting to get their hands on them.
- 0:39Speaker 1: I'm sorry, I said I wanted one, but how sad
- 0:41Speaker 1: is your life that you're outside Bunnings waiting for a
- 0:44Speaker 1: Bunnings Labooboo, basically? Well, I suppose it's also a bit
- 0:48Speaker 1: of a TikTok moment if you get your hands on them.
- 0:50Speaker 1: And I want to say hats off to the Bunnings
- 0:52Speaker 1: marketing team because they have done so well for themselves.
- 0:56Speaker 1: They got it so right because people have been opening
- 0:58Speaker 1: the box and they have like the plastic packets and
- 1:01Speaker 1: they've been doing the full ASMR rip. And I'm like,
- 1:04Speaker 1: oh my God, what is it? Yeah. They've been killing
- 1:06Speaker 1: it recently, the marketing team, because remember they had that
- 1:09Speaker 1: big event with Adam Hyde or better known as Kelly Holiday.
- 1:12Speaker 1: I was going to say better known as Abby Chatfield's boyfriend. True,
- 1:15Speaker 1: better known as Abby Chatfield's boyfriend, but it was Peaking
- 1:16Speaker 1: Duck did this massive event with Bunnings. And it was
- 1:19Speaker 1: only a few years ago that Bunnings marketing team were
- 1:21Speaker 1: copying it from Sam Magnin, who's a friend of the show.
- 1:24Speaker 1: He's also an entrepreneur who is in business with Anna Paul,
- 1:28Speaker 1: as well as running his own PR company. He's a
- 1:31Speaker 1: fabulous guy. I love him. Well, maybe his team are
- 1:33Speaker 1: doing the PR because they also work with James Charles
- 1:35Speaker 1: and he was down there trying a bunning sausage. Maybe.
- 1:38Speaker 1: I mean, they definitely have a new marketing team because
- 1:41Speaker 1: The stuff they are doing now is top notch. You
- 1:43Speaker 1: can see that someone has come in and definitely understands TikTok.
- 1:46Speaker 1: It was funny the other day, my cousin referred to
- 1:48Speaker 1: Bunnings as the green church. And I've never heard that before.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Have you? Look, Dale has never referred to it as that,
- 1:54Speaker 1: but I feel like Bunnings is the male version of Priceline.
- 1:57Speaker 1: Like you just go in and you just find all
- 1:59Speaker 1: this shit that you didn't really think you needed, but
- 2:01Speaker 1: you do need in that moment. Yeah. Before we wrap
- 2:03Speaker 1: this up, I want to talk about the rare secret
- 2:06Speaker 1: bear that people are trying to get their hands on.
- 2:08Speaker 1: So They have five designs. So they've got a team member,
- 2:12Speaker 1: one bear wearing a rain poncho, one with a high veers.
- 2:15Speaker 1: There's also one with a straw hat. However, I haven't
- 2:18Speaker 1: actually seen the rare bear, but people are saying that
- 2:21Speaker 1: they hope it's holding a bunning sausage. Surely that would
- 2:24Speaker 1: be so iconic. If anyone has seen the rare bear
- 2:28Speaker 1: on TikTok, send it to us because I feel like
- 2:30Speaker 1: we must know what this is. We purchased this house
- 2:34Speaker 1: three years ago. Okay. And it's like this rundown house
- 2:36Speaker 1: that basically needs cleaning. Full demolition. And we are building
- 2:40Speaker 1: our dream Mediterranean villa on it for our family holiday house.
- 2:44Speaker 1: And we'll also rent it out. So if you want
- 2:46Speaker 1: to stay there, you absolutely can. Sarah's Day has launched
- 2:50Speaker 1: an Instagram account for her luxury coastal beach house that
- 2:53Speaker 1: is still yet to be built. The OG fitness influencer
- 2:56Speaker 1: purchased the home nearly three years ago and has been
- 2:59Speaker 1: waiting 16 months for council approval to start the knockdown rebuild. Okay,
- 3:04Speaker 1: can you take us back to the start? Well, I'm
- 3:06Speaker 1: still finding it hard to believe that it's almost been
- 3:08Speaker 1: three years. So it was back in March 2023 that
- 3:11Speaker 1: Sarah teased her followers that she would be sharing a
- 3:14Speaker 1: life-changing update that would take up a lot of her
- 3:16Speaker 1: time for the next few years. So this created a
- 3:20Speaker 1: lot of buzz and excitement. But Sarah's followers were left
- 3:23Speaker 1: less than impressed when she announced that she'd bought a
- 3:25Speaker 1: holiday house that she would rent out for photo shoots
- 3:28Speaker 1: and as a luxury Airbnb. Now at the time she
- 3:31Speaker 1: was labelled tone deaf because Australia was in the midst
- 3:33Speaker 1: of a cost of living crisis. It also didn't help
- 3:36Speaker 1: that she referred to the beachfront property as garbage in
- 3:40Speaker 1: her vlog. So when she was discussing the bidding strategy
- 3:43Speaker 1: with her family, her husband told their young son, we're
- 3:46Speaker 1: going to knock the house down because it's garbage. And
- 3:49Speaker 1: then Sarah chimed in saying, The person even selling it
- 3:52Speaker 1: knows it's garbage. It's just the land's really good. Well,
- 3:54Speaker 1: remember when they bought their first house in Cronulla and
- 3:57Speaker 1: they were acting like that was a shit tip and
- 3:58Speaker 1: it was just because it wasn't the aesthetics that they
- 4:00Speaker 1: were used to or liked. Well, they gutted the whole
- 4:03Speaker 1: thing and redid it. I mean, you'd be pretty devastated
- 4:05Speaker 1: if you were the original owners because it was quite new. Yeah,
- 4:07Speaker 1: they'd only done it a few years ago apparently. Well,
- 4:09Speaker 1: it seems like they're rethinking some of their design options
- 4:12Speaker 1: within the house at the moment because Sarah's been documenting
- 4:15Speaker 1: her doing these new little touches around the house. So
- 4:18Speaker 1: she created this pink bathroom and she already doesn't like
- 4:22Speaker 1: the basin. They're going to redo that whole house in
- 4:24Speaker 1: a couple of years. Well, on her Instagram story the
- 4:26Speaker 1: other day, Sarah was up in their sort of loft
- 4:28Speaker 1: lounge room that has this massive couch in it. And
- 4:31Speaker 1: she explained that if they were to sell their house,
- 4:34Speaker 1: then the owner would have to actually buy the couch
- 4:37Speaker 1: with it because they brought the couch up and then
- 4:39Speaker 1: sort of built in this framework so they can't get
- 4:41Speaker 1: it out. And then she said she's going to get
- 4:43Speaker 1: rid of all her Moroccan pillows because she doesn't like
- 4:45Speaker 1: them anymore. And I was like, wow, that was a
- 4:47Speaker 1: real era for her, the Moroccan pillows. They probably still
- 4:50Speaker 1: haunt her to this day. Maybe it's a good thing
- 4:51Speaker 1: to get rid of them. Just clear out all the bad.
- 4:53Speaker 1: What is it? Juju? Yeah. Well, back to the backlash
- 4:56Speaker 1: that surrounded Sarah when she purchased this beachside property. One
- 5:00Speaker 1: follower wrote, hardly called that life-changing laughing my ass off.
- 5:03Speaker 1: What a privilege in the actual crisis that most people
- 5:06Speaker 1: are living in at the moment. And another said, so
- 5:08Speaker 1: many things wrong with this. Firstly, not life-changing news really,
- 5:12Speaker 1: is it? Just click bait for us to watch her
- 5:14Speaker 1: YouTube video so she gets more views and more money.
- 5:17Speaker 1: Do you think people were hoping at the time that
- 5:18Speaker 1: she was going to announce her pregnancy? It seemed like
- 5:21Speaker 1: that because it was before the birth of her third baby.
- 5:24Speaker 1: She had two kids and you could tell that she was,
- 5:26Speaker 1: you know, it was on the horizon for her. Now,
- 5:28Speaker 1: it wasn't until July of 2024 that Sarah provided an
- 5:32Speaker 1: update on her holiday house. So she shared photos of
- 5:35Speaker 1: mock-ups of the home's exterior on Instagram and wrote, over
- 5:38Speaker 1: a year of architectural design and we're almost there. Now
- 5:41Speaker 1: at the time, Sarah promised she would take her followers
- 5:44Speaker 1: along for the ride when the demolition and build started
- 5:47Speaker 1: in 2025. Now we are of course in the final
- 5:50Speaker 1: weeks of 2025 and Sarah is still waiting for the
- 5:53Speaker 1: council to approve the plans. Despite lodging the plans to
- 5:57Speaker 1: council in November 2023, they are yet to be approved.
- 6:01Speaker 1: So it's now been 16 months that they've been waiting
- 6:03Speaker 1: for this approval. I wonder if it's anything to do
- 6:05Speaker 1: with how extreme the plans are. Like maybe they don't
- 6:08Speaker 1: fit the vibe of the street. This is a massive mansion.
- 6:12Speaker 1: Like it's bigger than their Cronulla home. And it actually
- 6:15Speaker 1: leads on to Sarah's most recent update. So over the weekend,
- 6:18Speaker 1: she announced that she was launching an Instagram home account
- 6:21Speaker 1: for the property. And she told her followers she would
- 6:24Speaker 1: be documenting the building journey there and urged her followers
- 6:27Speaker 1: who like design and architecture to follow. It's pretty interesting
- 6:30Speaker 1: because despite Sarah having 1.2 million followers, only 5.6 thousand
- 6:35Speaker 1: people have followed her home account. That really surprises me.
- 6:37Speaker 1: I mean, it is a clever move of Sarah to
- 6:39Speaker 1: create this account because she wants to lease the home
- 6:42Speaker 1: out to others. So if it suddenly has like 50,000 followers,
- 6:45Speaker 1: she's going to get a lot of business. Well, I
- 6:47Speaker 1: also think it probably is a way to fish around
- 6:49Speaker 1: for sponsors as well. I mean, we saw how well
- 6:52Speaker 1: Laura Byrne and Maddie J's home renovation process went on
- 6:55Speaker 1: their beach house. But maybe people aren't following because she
- 6:58Speaker 1: has literally said, well, the designs haven't even been approved. Like,
- 7:01Speaker 1: you know, when you're like, what's the point of following
- 7:03Speaker 1: right now? Yeah, exactly. I mean, I was pretty surprised
- 7:05Speaker 1: by the content she shared because she uploaded images of
- 7:08Speaker 1: the 3D renders, which she said, the architects had been
- 7:11Speaker 1: working on for over a year and a half. And
- 7:14Speaker 1: amongst the designs was this overview of a floor plan
- 7:17Speaker 1: for the three-story home. And I'm like, it's a bit
- 7:20Speaker 1: of a strange move considering that she is planning to
- 7:22Speaker 1: use it as a personal holiday house. Like I wouldn't
- 7:25Speaker 1: feel particularly safe having this information out there. You've only
- 7:27Speaker 1: got to think of Molly May who was robbed a
- 7:30Speaker 1: few years ago. I mean, most influencers try and keep
- 7:33Speaker 1: the floor plan and location of the home private. I
- 7:36Speaker 1: wonder how this is going to go, particularly also because
- 7:38Speaker 1: she's going to be renting it out as a photo
- 7:40Speaker 1: shoot studio and an Airbnb. Like it's not going to
- 7:42Speaker 1: be very private at all. I mean, I suppose she's
- 7:45Speaker 1: not really that careful with her posts normally when she's
- 7:47Speaker 1: in her hometown of Cronulla walking around. I mean, I'm
- 7:49Speaker 1: assuming she posts live, but maybe not. Well, it will
- 7:52Speaker 1: be interesting to see when the house is built, if
- 7:55Speaker 1: Sarah will actually publicize the fact that she's down there.
- 7:57Speaker 1: She does share a lot online. So I feel like
- 8:00Speaker 1: she might not be able to control herself by actually
- 8:02Speaker 1: sharing content there. But it is kind of concerning that
- 8:06Speaker 1: so many people will know where her holiday house is
- 8:08Speaker 1: because while she has a lot of fans, there are
- 8:10Speaker 1: also a lot of people that don't like Sarah. We
- 8:12Speaker 1: saw that hate page that came out of the works
- 8:14Speaker 1: and they were trying to destroy her wedding. So I'm
- 8:17Speaker 1: hoping we don't see any of that. Yeah, well, I
- 8:19Speaker 1: really hope not. Now, it's pretty interesting because it's the
- 8:22Speaker 1: first time that Sarah has revealed the name that she
- 8:25Speaker 1: has given to the home. So the house is called Sirocco.
- 8:29Speaker 1: And I had to do a Google because I'm like,
- 8:31Speaker 1: surely there is some deep meaning behind it. So what
- 8:34Speaker 1: Google came back to me with is a Mediterranean wind
- 8:37Speaker 1: that comes from the Sahara and can reach hurricane speeds
- 8:40Speaker 1: in North Africa and Southern Europe, especially during The summer season.
- 8:44Speaker 1: Is this what ChatGPT told you or did you actually
- 8:47Speaker 1: Google it? No, this was on Wikipedia. Because I'm getting
- 8:49Speaker 1: sick of you using ChatGPT for everything. It's not accurate.
- 8:53Speaker 1: It is not. Well, this is an accurate definition according
- 8:56Speaker 1: to multiple sites on Google. Well, all I know is
- 8:58Speaker 1: that when you give your house a name, it must
- 9:00Speaker 1: be an expensive home. I think she is playing on
- 9:02Speaker 1: the kind of salty wind thing because in the Instagram
- 9:05Speaker 1: bio it read, Oceanfront Mediterranean Luxury, designed for effortless, salty,
- 9:10Speaker 1: unforgivable escapes from by Sarah's Day. All I think when
- 9:13Speaker 1: I hear the term salty is that hate page, Salty's Day.
- 9:16Speaker 1: So I'm surprised she's even mentioning the saltiness. I don't
- 9:18Speaker 1: think the hate page would have been on her mind
- 9:20Speaker 1: when she was writing this Instagram bio. I have noticed
- 9:23Speaker 1: though that she seems to be splashing the cash a
- 9:26Speaker 1: bit on her social media channels. So as I touched
- 9:28Speaker 1: on earlier, she's been doing all these house refreshes with
- 9:32Speaker 1: very expensive furniture. She was asking her followers about like, oh,
- 9:35Speaker 1: which coffee table should I get? This $ 2, 000 one or
- 9:36Speaker 1: this $ 4, 000 one? And she's also been documenting the process
- 9:41Speaker 1: of building her own dojo in her backyard. So they
- 9:45Speaker 1: pulled down the old pool house, which used to be
- 9:47Speaker 1: their podcasting studio. And then it had the sauna in it. Kate,
- 9:50Speaker 1: we've been copying it a bit on our Instagram. People
- 9:52Speaker 1: are saying that, why do we hate Sarah's day? Blah, blah, blah.
- 9:55Speaker 1: I don't hate her at all. I actually have been
- 9:57Speaker 1: following her for years and years. I... am not a
- 10:00Speaker 1: fan of the medical misinformation that she's put out in
- 10:04Speaker 1: the past or the toxic diet culture. You seem to
- 10:07Speaker 1: be triggered by her buying all of these things. I'm
- 10:10Speaker 1: not triggered by it. I'm saying it just seems like
- 10:11Speaker 1: she's been splashing her cash. I mean, when the cash
- 10:14Speaker 1: is made from pushing toxic diet culture, like her recent
- 10:18Speaker 1: 560 challenge. And do you think that's where the money's
- 10:20Speaker 1: coming from? Yeah, I do. I mean, it came out
- 10:22Speaker 1: that she's sold now 3,000 copies of it. So, you know,
- 10:25Speaker 1: 3,000 times, what was it? $ 60 that she was charging.
- 10:30Speaker 1: That's a lot of cash for some renos. Yeah. It's
- 10:32Speaker 1: pretty ironic because Sarah was sharing on Instagram that she
- 10:35Speaker 1: herself didn't even complete the challenge. Yeah. I mean, it
- 10:38Speaker 1: was quite comical considering we all discussed how a 60
- 10:42Speaker 1: day challenge with no rest days is quite unachievable. I mean,
- 10:45Speaker 1: she claimed that she got sick and then also she
- 10:47Speaker 1: had the renos going on at the house. So there
- 10:48Speaker 1: was nowhere to exercise. Well, it's a good marketing ploy,
- 10:52Speaker 1: isn't it? To get people to do it again with her. Yeah.
- 10:55Speaker 1: She's already saying, oh, I'm going to start on January 1st.
- 10:57Speaker 1: Who's with me? So, you know, as you mentioned, she's
- 10:59Speaker 1: got 1.2 million followers. Surely she could get another 3000
- 11:02Speaker 1: sign on. That might be a new ivory back scratcher
- 11:05Speaker 1: or a new couch or whatever. Anyway, I love your Christmas.
- 11:08Speaker 1: Thank you. Thank you. Jingle bell rock. very festive. Matt
- 11:13Speaker 1: Zukowski has revealed how his ex-wife Tammy Hembrough and her
- 11:16Speaker 1: kids shaped some of his Christmas traditions. Matt dropped the
- 11:20Speaker 1: details in a festive themed episode of his podcast, Where's
- 11:23Speaker 1: Your Head At? Kate, can you tell us more? I
- 11:25Speaker 1: haven't been the biggest fan of Matt's podcast, but I've
- 11:28Speaker 1: got to say I actually really enjoyed this episode. And
- 11:31Speaker 1: Matt is continuing to win me over with his love
- 11:33Speaker 1: for Christmas. So In the episode, he spoke in depth
- 11:36Speaker 1: about the traditions he does with his mum and sisters.
- 11:39Speaker 1: And I couldn't help but find it really sweet. So
- 11:42Speaker 1: every Christmas Eve, they dress up in their matching Christmas
- 11:45Speaker 1: pyjamas and do dinner together with carols by candlelight in
- 11:48Speaker 1: the background. And it made me think of our Christmas
- 11:51Speaker 1: Eve tradition because we always go over to our parents'
- 11:53Speaker 1: house on Christmas Eve and have dinner and watch Carols
- 11:55Speaker 1: by Candlelight. I think that's an elite combination. Are they
- 11:58Speaker 1: watching the Carols seriously though? Because when we watch it,
- 12:01Speaker 1: there's a few comments flying, like there's jokes going on. Well,
- 12:04Speaker 1: he and Anna were discussing how every year they think, oh,
- 12:07Speaker 1: I'd actually really love to be there because it's filmed
- 12:10Speaker 1: in Melbourne. However, they're like, actually, I think relaxing on
- 12:13Speaker 1: the couch and watching it is so much better, particularly
- 12:15Speaker 1: if you need to do like Christmas wrapping. Yeah, you
- 12:17Speaker 1: always see those babies there as well. And I think,
- 12:19Speaker 1: oh my God, that would be utter hell bringing a
- 12:21Speaker 1: baby to Carols by Candlelight, especially when it came time
- 12:24Speaker 1: to leaving. Oh, yeah. Because even looking at the local
- 12:28Speaker 1: Adelaide carols, you can't go to park anywhere. You've got
- 12:31Speaker 1: to walk miles. Yeah. Well, the local carols were on
- 12:34Speaker 1: last weekend and we actually went to the Moonlight Cinemas,
- 12:38Speaker 1: which was so good. They had Elf on. We were
- 12:40Speaker 1: kindly gifted the tickets. And I was like, this is
- 12:42Speaker 1: elite because you could kind of hear the carols faintly
- 12:45Speaker 1: in the background it felt so christmasy i want to
- 12:48Speaker 1: go back because they've got parent trap in january i
- 12:50Speaker 1: want to join you because i really liked it how
- 12:53Speaker 1: you were kind of forced to watch the movie i
- 12:55Speaker 1: know that sounds silly but whenever i put a christmas
- 12:57Speaker 1: movie on i always feel like i need to be
- 12:59Speaker 1: doing something else whether it's like wrapping christmas presents or
- 13:01Speaker 1: just scrolling for people's christmas presents on my phone where
- 13:04Speaker 1: i actually really watched the movie properly and loved it
- 13:06Speaker 1: well you laughed at me because dale and i've been
- 13:08Speaker 1: to the moonlight cinema before and i said oh we're
- 13:11Speaker 1: going to be in gold grass and you're like what
- 13:13Speaker 1: are you talking about that's not the name And it is.
- 13:15Speaker 1: So instead of gold glass, it's gold grass. And I
- 13:17Speaker 1: only realized this time when we arrived that you can
- 13:20Speaker 1: actually order food to your seat. Like we brought all
- 13:22Speaker 1: of our cheese platters in. We got dinner beforehand. But
- 13:25Speaker 1: I was like, I want to do that next time. Yeah.
- 13:27Speaker 1: And maybe just girls. Only because it's stressful if you've
- 13:30Speaker 1: got a babysitter at home. I'm going to bring a
- 13:32Speaker 1: thicker blanket because I was a little bit cold. And
- 13:34Speaker 1: you know when you have to share it. Anyway, we digress.
- 13:37Speaker 1: But back to Matt's Christmas traditions. He dropped a few things.
- 13:42Speaker 1: juicy details about how he celebrated with Tammy. So as
- 13:46Speaker 1: I touched on, his Christmas tradition is actually to spend
- 13:48Speaker 1: Christmas Eve with his mum and his sisters. And then
- 13:50Speaker 1: he said that Christmas Day has always been for the
- 13:53Speaker 1: partner's side of the family, which I thought was interesting
- 13:55Speaker 1: considering this year he doesn't have a partner. But people
- 13:58Speaker 1: say that, that people's sons, they don't spend Christmas with
- 14:01Speaker 1: the family anymore once they get a partner. It's the
- 14:04Speaker 1: girlfriend's family that get favoured. I think that's wrong. I
- 14:06Speaker 1: think you've got to share your Christmas celebration. Just because
- 14:08Speaker 1: you have a son now. Well, yes, and also to
- 14:11Speaker 1: be fair. But Matt has a couple of sisters so
- 14:13Speaker 1: it's actually not a boy thing. It's like they go
- 14:15Speaker 1: and see their partner. But wait, Matt would have spent
- 14:16Speaker 1: Christmas Eve with Tammy. No, so last year he actually
- 14:20Speaker 1: flew home to Melbourne. I'm sorry, that's weird. It was
- 14:23Speaker 1: actually a last minute decision. So he decided he would
- 14:26Speaker 1: go back and spend Christmas Eve with his family. He
- 14:28Speaker 1: said it got to the point where they had dinner,
- 14:29Speaker 1: they'd watched a Christmas movie, they put cookies out for
- 14:32Speaker 1: Santa and then he caught a flight home. So he
- 14:35Speaker 1: was there in the morning for Tammy and the kids.
- 14:38Speaker 1: Maybe Matt Zukowski and us would actually be really good
- 14:40Speaker 1: friends if he'd forgive us what we've previously said about him,
- 14:43Speaker 1: what the rolling coverage of his divorce. Yeah. I'm not
- 14:45Speaker 1: sure who to give that. Because I rate that. Because
- 14:47Speaker 1: that's so cute that they're putting out the cookies for Santa.
- 14:50Speaker 1: I mean, I'd be pretty pissed if I was Tammy
- 14:51Speaker 1: and I'm with the kids wrangling them on Christmas Eve
- 14:54Speaker 1: and my husband's not there. Yeah, but they're not his kids. No,
- 14:56Speaker 1: I get that. But they were husband and wife at
- 14:59Speaker 1: the time. Well, they were his stepkids, I suppose. Well,
- 15:01Speaker 1: it sounds like when he was on the Gold Coast
- 15:02Speaker 1: with Tammy and the kids, he really got around the
- 15:04Speaker 1: Christmas traditions because he said he learned about Elf on
- 15:07Speaker 1: the Shelf. So I didn't realize this, but apparently once
- 15:09Speaker 1: you've set the scene up and the kids come out
- 15:11Speaker 1: and see the elf, No one's allowed to touch it
- 15:14Speaker 1: or move the elf. So he said he really regretted
- 15:17Speaker 1: it because he set up this snowball fight on the
- 15:19Speaker 1: middle of the kitchen counter with like flour and all
- 15:21Speaker 1: this stuff. However, no one could touch it or move
- 15:24Speaker 1: the elf. So they had to like cook dinner around
- 15:26Speaker 1: the scene. Wait, I've seen scenes where the elf on
- 15:28Speaker 1: the shelf was like in the toilet and the toilet's
- 15:30Speaker 1: overflowing and stuff. What, you have to leave that shit there,
- 15:32Speaker 1: do you? Well, I suppose they may have more than
- 15:34Speaker 1: one toilet. I don't want to do that when Harry's older.
- 15:37Speaker 1: I do. It doesn't appeal to me. The bad thing
- 15:40Speaker 1: is if you do it, we all have to do it.
- 15:42Speaker 1: I know. Well, it annoys me because I started the
- 15:44Speaker 1: December 1st boxes and you and Sophie didn't get organized
- 15:46Speaker 1: or do one. So now you're like, oh, we're going
- 15:48Speaker 1: to do a Christmas eat one. I'm like, no, I
- 15:49Speaker 1: can't do two boxes at Christmas time. I'm just shocked
- 15:52Speaker 1: that Matt would talk about Tammy and the kids. You
- 15:54Speaker 1: think he'd be trying to avoid it? He didn't name Tammy,
- 15:57Speaker 1: but he name dropped Wolf. So he was talking about
- 15:59Speaker 1: his whole tradition around Christmas movies. And he said, once
- 16:04Speaker 1: Halloween's done, he starts watching like Christmas adjacent movies, like
- 16:08Speaker 1: Die Hard. And then on November 14, he changes over
- 16:11Speaker 1: to a mix of Hallmark Christmas movies. And his co-host
- 16:14Speaker 1: Anna McAvoy was like, well, where do you even watch
- 16:16Speaker 1: these Christmas horror movies? I've never seen them before. And
- 16:18Speaker 1: he said, Wolf introduced him to this special streaming platform
- 16:22Speaker 1: last year where he could watch them on. Yeah. Cause
- 16:24Speaker 1: he's obsessed with movies, isn't he? Yeah. Particularly horror movies.
- 16:27Speaker 1: But I was like, Wow. He goes, oh, my friend Wolf.
- 16:29Speaker 1: And I was like, oh, my friend Wolf. My ex-stepson Wolf. Yeah.
- 16:34Speaker 1: He also managed to sneak in a pot shot at
- 16:36Speaker 1: Tammy during this episode. He made a reference that he
- 16:39Speaker 1: always used to be in flight or fight and isn't anymore.
- 16:42Speaker 1: So I'm assuming that was because he's no longer with Tammy. Yes.
- 16:46Speaker 1: I feel like that's definitely aimed at her. Let's get
- 16:48Speaker 1: into our Friday debrief. And I have somewhat of a
- 16:50Speaker 1: Christmassy recommendation. So every Christmas season, I scroll TikTok and
- 16:56Speaker 1: Instagram and for so many hours trying to find cute
- 16:59Speaker 1: Christmas recipes. And I always end up making the same
- 17:01Speaker 1: thing I make every year. However, I'm committed to make
- 17:04Speaker 1: something different for the White Party this year because it's
- 17:06Speaker 1: coming up on Saturday. I remember you saying to me
- 17:08Speaker 1: that you heard on Mamma Mia that apparently whichever dish
- 17:11Speaker 1: you bring to Christmas or a dinner party, it shows
- 17:14Speaker 1: a lot about your personality. And they said that if
- 17:16Speaker 1: you bring a dessert, you want all the praise. And
- 17:18Speaker 1: that is you, Kate. You often bring a dessert. We
- 17:20Speaker 1: discussed it on the subs, me and Sophie. And I
- 17:22Speaker 1: was like, yeah, that definitely is me. And I think
- 17:25Speaker 1: I'll be bringing a dessert and a savoury because I'm
- 17:28Speaker 1: just an all-round great human being. Because you won praise twice.
- 17:31Speaker 1: You won double the praise. Yeah. So there is an
- 17:34Speaker 1: Instagram account that I came across called Jessie Jane Day, Day, D-A-Y-E,
- 17:38Speaker 1: not like Sarah's Day. And she is an American content
- 17:43Speaker 1: creator who makes the most amazing looking Christmas treat. She
- 17:47Speaker 1: does like these really cute like chocolate Christmas trees and
- 17:50Speaker 1: just really incredible looking things that look quite easy. I mean,
- 17:53Speaker 1: You know, there's things that look really easy and then
- 17:55Speaker 1: they end up being a fucking nightmare. Like there was
- 17:57Speaker 1: something I'm like, I don't know how easy that is,
- 17:59Speaker 1: but I'm willing to have a bit of a challenge.
- 18:01Speaker 1: I was thinking about Christmas Day the other day and
- 18:03Speaker 1: I was like, oh, you know what? Maybe I should
- 18:06Speaker 1: make a pavlova from scratch. No. And then I was like,
- 18:08Speaker 1: hell no. Because don't you have to leave it in
- 18:10Speaker 1: the oven overnight in order for it not to crack
- 18:12Speaker 1: and all that kind of stuff? That's the hard thing
- 18:13Speaker 1: about Christmas prep. There is a lot of the stuff
- 18:15Speaker 1: you actually would have to make on Christmas Eve. So
- 18:17Speaker 1: it's not. Well, I've actually got another recommendation off the
- 18:20Speaker 1: back of that. Jamie Oliver has this Christmas special on 10.
- 18:24Speaker 1: You can watch it on 10 play. And all of
- 18:26Speaker 1: the recipes are things that you can put in the
- 18:28Speaker 1: freezer ready to go Christmas day. So you literally just
- 18:31Speaker 1: have to bring them out and defrost. And I was like, ooh, yuck,
- 18:33Speaker 1: because I notoriously don't like leftovers. And I've got a
- 18:36Speaker 1: thing for freezer food. But he cooked this. It sometimes
- 18:39Speaker 1: just has this sort of like strange taste. Maybe it's
- 18:42Speaker 1: just bread. I find if you have bread. Bread's disgusting
- 18:44Speaker 1: out of the freezer. But he made this really cool
- 18:47Speaker 1: thing for vegos. It was like, a potato gratin thing.
- 18:51Speaker 1: But then he put homemade pastry around it, like a pie.
- 18:55Speaker 1: And I just thought it had you and Dale written
- 18:57Speaker 1: all over it. It actually looked really fiddly. Puff pastry
- 19:00Speaker 1: and potato. That's right up that way. Yeah. So there
- 19:02Speaker 1: were all these things that he was just putting in
- 19:04Speaker 1: the freezer, but I'm like, I couldn't fit anything more
- 19:06Speaker 1: in the freezer with all of Jack's food in there. Well,
- 19:09Speaker 1: I'm trying to get organized for the white party because
- 19:11Speaker 1: we've got that this Saturday. And also we're doing Christmas
- 19:14Speaker 1: dinner at Dale and my house. So I've got two
- 19:16Speaker 1: different balloon garlands I've been organizing. I know. Actually, I need, yeah,
- 19:21Speaker 1: I need to borrow something from you for that, but
- 19:22Speaker 1: should we put money on it? Whether it's actually going
- 19:24Speaker 1: to come into fruition because we've had so many events
- 19:27Speaker 1: where the balloons have just been in the lounge room.
- 19:30Speaker 1: That was, that was my baby shower. No, no, it wasn't. No,
- 19:34Speaker 1: it wasn't baby shower. It was my engagement party because
- 19:37Speaker 1: Dale was away for the week and we were painting
- 19:39Speaker 1: the house like I was painting the bathroom all by
- 19:43Speaker 1: myself so I didn't get time to do the fun
- 19:44Speaker 1: little bits like doing the balloons. I'm not having you go.
- 19:46Speaker 1: I mean, I hate doing them. Kate, I'm so organised.
- 19:47Speaker 1: You see over on the desk, I've got little snowflakes
- 19:50Speaker 1: that are hanging from fishing wire that are going to
- 19:52Speaker 1: hang down on the garland. I've got the balloons ready
- 19:55Speaker 1: to go. I'm going to do those on Friday night.
- 19:57Speaker 1: But I'm trying to think, can I do balloons for
- 19:59Speaker 1: Christmas Day on the 23rd or is that going to
- 20:01Speaker 1: be too early? 23rd. Yeah, like can I pre-do them? Yeah,
- 20:04Speaker 1: I think that's fine. I mean we're only in the
- 20:06Speaker 1: mid-20s for Christmas in Adelaide. It's funny because I don't
- 20:09Speaker 1: know what I'm wearing to the white party because last
- 20:12Speaker 1: year I had a special outfit because I was pregnant.
- 20:14Speaker 1: What did you wear? I can't even think. I bought
- 20:16Speaker 1: some shit from Kmart, like some skirt. Oh, a special outfit. Yeah,
- 20:20Speaker 1: like some really daggy outfit. And I don't know if
- 20:22Speaker 1: I can be bothered to wear my pre-baby dress and
- 20:26Speaker 1: I was messaging a friend and we were joking that
- 20:27Speaker 1: maybe we should just wear our wedding dresses. Jeez, that
- 20:30Speaker 1: would actually be kind of cool, get another wear out
- 20:32Speaker 1: of it. Mine's been professionally cleaned and put in a
- 20:35Speaker 1: box so I don't know if I'm game enough to
- 20:37Speaker 1: take it out. I don't know if I'd still fit
- 20:39Speaker 1: in mine, to be honest. Yeah, that's another thing. I
- 20:42Speaker 1: don't know. But mine wasn't like a traditional wedding dress.
- 20:45Speaker 1: It was more like a bridesmaid's dress. So do you
- 20:47Speaker 1: think I could pull that off? I mean, I wouldn't. Yeah. No,
- 20:50Speaker 1: I probably won't. I'll probably end up wearing something really comfy.
- 20:52Speaker 1: I'm actually tossing up whether to go pants this year
- 20:55Speaker 1: and a crop top because I wore a white outfit
- 20:57Speaker 1: to a friend's hens and I was like, oh, I
- 21:00Speaker 1: could go that because I Then I don't get bitten
- 21:03Speaker 1: by mozzies. Well, I have to share a video on
- 21:04Speaker 1: my Instagram of the final balloon installation. And the tablescape.
- 21:08Speaker 1: It sounds like it's going to be very nice. The tablescape. Actually,
- 21:11Speaker 1: I have got my tablescape organized. I bought candle holders and...
- 21:16Speaker 1: those fake candles, but they look so real, like the
- 21:19Speaker 1: battery operated ones. See, I'm doing a Ralph Lauren theme,
- 21:22Speaker 1: which I say that, but I've only really got a
- 21:24Speaker 1: few different things. I got like some tartan napkins and
- 21:29Speaker 1: I got red candles, red long candles instead with gold holders.
- 21:33Speaker 1: I was going to get a garland, but then they
- 21:34Speaker 1: ended up being quite expensive for what they were. I've
- 21:37Speaker 1: got two. Oh, okay. Well, I've got some sort of
- 21:40Speaker 1: garland sort of candle holders anyway that I thought I'll
- 21:42Speaker 1: use them again because I've It does annoy me when
- 21:45Speaker 1: every year it's like, oh, what is the Christmas theme
- 21:48Speaker 1: this year? And people don't reuse their decorations. Okay, do
- 21:50Speaker 1: you know what my Christmas Day theme is? What? It's
- 21:53Speaker 1: literally home alone. Oh, what does that mean? As in,
- 21:56Speaker 1: you know the house, how it's all tartan and everything?
- 21:59Speaker 1: That is the Ralph Lauren Christmas. Oh, whatever. It's like
- 22:01Speaker 1: old school Christmas. Okay, well, inadvertently it's Ralph Lauren. But
- 22:05Speaker 1: I'd like to refer to it as home alone. So
- 22:08Speaker 1: I've got, I actually, you're going to hate this, but
- 22:10Speaker 1: I'm doing paper plates this year instead of. Why would
- 22:13Speaker 1: I hate that? Because you're a bit of like a
- 22:14Speaker 1: snob about that sort of stuff. But they're the cutest plates.
- 22:18Speaker 1: I saw them and I was like, oh, they fit
- 22:20Speaker 1: the theme perfectly. They're red and green. It's like such
- 22:23Speaker 1: a novel idea of yours, but it's all over TikTok.
- 22:25Speaker 1: Because this is an audio platform. Amy is now showing
- 22:27Speaker 1: me a picture of the plates. I love them. They
- 22:29Speaker 1: remind me of my grandma. Yeah. And the bonbons. I've
- 22:31Speaker 1: got like old school bonbons. See, I actually just went
- 22:33Speaker 1: and bought some of the crappy Anko ones because I
- 22:36Speaker 1: was desperate. I didn't know they had. Where did you
- 22:37Speaker 1: get yours from? Oh, they're just from Audi. Oh, no,
- 22:40Speaker 1: I saw them. Yeah. afterwards. And I was like, damn it. Anyway,
- 22:44Speaker 1: that is where we're going to leave things today. Thank
- 22:47Speaker 1: you for joining us for another episode of Outspoken. If
- 22:49Speaker 1: you do want to hear more content from us, we
- 22:51Speaker 1: drop a subscriber only episode every Thursday, and we'll be
- 22:54Speaker 1: doing that throughout the holiday period because I know there
- 22:56Speaker 1: is nothing worse. Over the Christmas season, when every podcast
- 22:59Speaker 1: goes on a break, we're going to be having fresh
- 23:01Speaker 1: content all throughout the festive period. Kate keeps saying this,
- 23:04Speaker 1: but we haven't recorded the fresh content. We're about to
- 23:07Speaker 1: pre-record some of it now. Kate's made this such a
- 23:09Speaker 1: big deal about, you know, other podcasts not having fresh content.
- 23:12Speaker 1: And the other day I was like, shit, we've got
- 23:14Speaker 1: five episodes we haven't pre-recorded and we're meant to do
- 23:16Speaker 1: them all before Christmas. Well, hopefully you'll be getting some
- 23:20Speaker 1: fresh content. You will be. Okay, so keep tuning in. Well,
- 23:24Speaker 1: this episode was recorded on the traditional land of the
- 23:26Speaker 1: Kaurna people of the Adelaide Plains. We pay respect to
- 23:29Speaker 1: elders past and present. And if you did enjoy the podcast,
- 23:32Speaker 1: we would love if you could help us out and
- 23:33Speaker 1: leave us a five-star review.
