Transcript
- 0:22Speaker 1: Mike Golick Sr. is with us. Golick and Golick, 10
- 0:25Speaker 1: to noon Eastern, every day on ESPN Radio. I was
- 0:28Speaker 1: just listening because I love listening to the show. What's
- 0:31Speaker 1: the matter, Mikey? Why are you shaking your head? That's
- 0:33Speaker 1: not the name.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Because that's the name of the show.
- 0:35Speaker 1: The Goliks. The Goliks. I'm sorry. 10 to noon Eastern.
- 0:37Speaker 1: I keep calling it Golik and Golik, and we just
- 0:39Speaker 1: had Gojo on the other day, and I got it right. Yes. No,
- 0:43Speaker 1: it's okay.
- 0:45Speaker 2: You're saying last name, so I'm just kind of letting
- 0:47Speaker 2: it slide.
- 0:48Speaker 1: I know you are. I was just listening to my
- 0:50Speaker 1: favorite radio show, Golik and Golik, 10 to noon Eastern
- 0:55Speaker 1: on ESPN radio, and Mike Golik Sr. said something that
- 1:00Speaker 1: made me laugh out loud. He does not fully believe
- 1:04Speaker 1: in the concept of delivery food companies yet. What are
- 1:07Speaker 1: you talking about?
- 1:09Speaker 3: No, no.
- 1:10Speaker 2: It's lazy. If you want something, go get it. Spending
- 1:17Speaker 2: extra money. You're already buying something. Spending extra money to
- 1:21Speaker 2: have it delivered. I know the whole convenience thing. I
- 1:24Speaker 2: get it in certain situations.
- 1:26Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:27Speaker 2: But I always go back to my daughter. One year
- 1:30Speaker 2: in college, she had A Sprite delivered. I mean, odd drink. Now,
- 1:35Speaker 2: it was probably alcohol related.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:38Speaker 2: I would imagine.
- 1:39Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:39Speaker 2: But still, I mean, yes, I have not bought into
- 1:43Speaker 2: food delivery service at all.
- 1:45Speaker 1: Yes. But when you need something to kind of mix
- 1:47Speaker 1: up with your vodka, then you need something, you know?
- 1:49Speaker 2: Gotta have that watch.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Wait, Mikey, so how do you feel about his stance
- 1:55Speaker 1: on this? If you want something, go pick it up.
- 2:00Speaker 4: I play this game almost nightly when we're going to
- 2:03Speaker 4: order out where I go. I could spend $ 100 and
- 2:06Speaker 4: it gets delivered, or I could spend $ 75 and go
- 2:10Speaker 4: get it. And there are days, Mike, I'm very happy
- 2:13Speaker 4: to pay the extra $ 25 to not.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Have to leave. No, listen, I get it.
- 2:18Speaker 2: I have just never put myself in that situation. I've
- 2:21Speaker 2: just always been in the yoke. I'm going to go
- 2:24Speaker 2: pick it up. Because we'll order something here as a family,
- 2:27Speaker 2: and the kids will go, like Sidney will go pick
- 2:30Speaker 2: up our derby. I'm like, hell no, I'm going to
- 2:32Speaker 2: pick it up. No, absolutely not.
- 2:35Speaker 1: Taylor, I see you shaking your head there. What's going on?
- 2:38Speaker 3: I'm on the side of always getting in the car
- 2:40Speaker 3: and picking it up because it gives me more time
- 2:42Speaker 3: to listen to the Gullicks.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Oh, jeez.
- 2:44Speaker 4: 10 to noon Eastern on ESPN Radio.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Wow.
- 2:49Speaker 3: Or available podcast, wherever you get your podcast.
- 2:52Speaker 1: I will tell you, there is something to this. I
- 2:54Speaker 1: do like picking up my own food. I don't like
- 2:56Speaker 1: my food sitting in a stranger's car. That much, I
- 2:59Speaker 1: agree with you on that, Mike. I just don't know
- 3:01Speaker 1: these people. Yeah.
- 3:04Speaker 2: I mean, could the person be picking out fries as
- 3:07Speaker 2: he's driving to your house?
- 3:08Speaker 1: Right. Yes. I mean, who knows? You don't know? Yes.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Because I know I am.
- 3:14Speaker 2: Right?
- 3:14Speaker 1: When I pick it up, I am.
- 3:17Speaker 2: I would be fired on my first day of delivery
- 3:20Speaker 2: because they'd get half their food.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Yes. Mike, we'll get to the NFL here in just
- 3:24Speaker 1: a second. And I know we're all moving forward here.
- 3:26Speaker 1: It's Wednesday. It's time to look ahead to the next week.
- 3:29Speaker 1: I want to look back for a second. I'm sure
- 3:30Speaker 1: you don't. but put us there at the end of
- 3:32Speaker 1: the BYU-Notre Dame game. You were on the call. I
- 3:36Speaker 1: asked the guys to try to find the call, and
- 3:38Speaker 1: we couldn't find it, so I'm interested. Take us through
- 3:40Speaker 1: the emotions. Take us through your call as Notre Dame
- 3:43Speaker 1: was robbed at BYU.
- 3:46Speaker 2: Well, I mean, listen, BYU played a better game. I mean,
- 3:51Speaker 2: they did. And then Notre Dame found themselves up 24-21.
- 3:55Speaker 3: Yep.
- 3:57Speaker 2: And, you know, Notre Dame left a lot on the field,
- 4:02Speaker 2: both offensively and defensively, especially offensively, having BYU turnovers turn
- 4:08Speaker 2: into no points or just field goals. And nobody knows
- 4:11Speaker 2: that more than Notre Dame themselves because they have a
- 4:13Speaker 2: bye this week, which is the worst thing you can
- 4:16Speaker 2: have after a game like that. You got to sit
- 4:18Speaker 2: there and eat it all week and look at the
- 4:21Speaker 2: mistakes and defensively. Listen, they couldn't contain Bear Bachmeier, the
- 4:27Speaker 2: all-everything quarterback for BYU. All that being said, they found
- 4:31Speaker 2: themselves with a three-point lead and needed to stop BYU.
- 4:36Speaker 2: And they couldn't stop them. BYU takes the lead, but
- 4:38Speaker 2: then Notre Dame goes down the field, as we know,
- 4:42Speaker 2: and they have a play from the eight-yard line with
- 4:45Speaker 2: four seconds to go. Now, there are a lot of
- 4:47Speaker 2: people that are talking about defensive pass interference. As a
- 4:51Speaker 2: former defensive player, I'm Normally OK with keeping the flag
- 4:56Speaker 2: in your pocket. And if you look, the defender had
- 4:59Speaker 2: his hand on the offensive receiver, Jaden Greathouse. But Greathouse
- 5:04Speaker 2: also had his hand. He was holding the left wrist
- 5:07Speaker 2: of the defender.
- 5:08Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:08Speaker 2: So I'm like they're kind of holding each other. I'm
- 5:11Speaker 2: not I'm not going to throw the flag. I'm just
- 5:14Speaker 2: and Notre Dame people may dislike me for that. But
- 5:18Speaker 2: I'm not going to. And, you know, always saying it
- 5:21Speaker 2: doesn't come down to one play. It doesn't, especially in
- 5:24Speaker 2: a judgment call. If you're trying to put the game
- 5:26Speaker 2: on a judgment call, that's your bad. Now, the fact
- 5:30Speaker 2: that factually there was a second left on the clock,
- 5:34Speaker 2: and God knows we've dealt with a second getting put
- 5:36Speaker 2: back on the clock in other games, IEC Michigan and
- 5:39Speaker 2: Western Michigan. And the Big 12 came out with a
- 5:44Speaker 2: statement saying they blew it. that there should have been
- 5:47Speaker 2: one more play. Notre Dame should have had one more
- 5:49Speaker 2: play on the eight-yard line, and who knows what would
- 5:52Speaker 2: have happened. But that, to me, was the more egregious
- 5:56Speaker 2: thing than a judgment defensive pass interference. There was clearly
- 6:01Speaker 2: one second on the clock when the ball hit the ground.
- 6:04Speaker 4: Mike, how important is that game, November 7th, hosting Miami
- 6:08Speaker 4: going to be now, considering Notre Dame has two games
- 6:12Speaker 4: on its schedule that are considered tough games?
- 6:15Speaker 1: And they've already lost one.
- 6:16Speaker 2: Yeah, it was kind of like last year, losing to
- 6:18Speaker 2: Texas A & M and Miami right out of the gate.
- 6:21Speaker 2: Had two losses and then got left out of the
- 6:23Speaker 2: tournament at the end. They're still ranked fourth AP wise.
- 6:28Speaker 2: And I know AP doesn't determine the playoffs. It's the,
- 6:31Speaker 2: it's the committee that does it. I thought they might
- 6:34Speaker 2: drop far further.
- 6:35Speaker 1: They didn't.
- 6:38Speaker 2: But again, it's up to the committee. I would say, listen, it,
- 6:43Speaker 2: They put it so, and their motto has been leave
- 6:46Speaker 2: no doubt because of last year.
- 6:47Speaker 1: Right.
- 6:48Speaker 2: Well, now if they beat Miami, there's no doubt.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Right.
- 6:51Speaker 2: They'll be in without question. Yeah. Beating a number one
- 6:54Speaker 2: team and then losing to the number two team. If
- 6:57Speaker 2: they were to lose to Miami in a close game,
- 7:00Speaker 2: it will kind of be like last year. It'll come
- 7:03Speaker 2: down to what the committee thinks of other teams. Because
- 7:06Speaker 2: what did we just see? Five of the top eight
- 7:08Speaker 2: teams in the country lost last week. Yep. So, I mean,
- 7:12Speaker 2: it's figure out who the top team is. I mean,
- 7:15Speaker 2: it's tough to do. So I think if Notre Dame
- 7:18Speaker 2: were to lose to Miami in a close game, it
- 7:22Speaker 2: would come down to what the other teams are doing
- 7:24Speaker 2: as well. Win and they're going to be in for sure,
- 7:27Speaker 2: as long as they get by their last games as well.
- 7:31Speaker 2: But lose and they're going to be in the same
- 7:34Speaker 2: situation they were in last year, kind of holding their
- 7:37Speaker 2: breath on the final day.
- 7:39Speaker 1: We have breaking news. Very exciting. We've never had breaking
- 7:42Speaker 1: news while speaking to Mike Golick. Senior Taylor, take it away.
- 7:45Speaker 1: Give Mike Golick, Senior, the breaking news and let's get
- 7:47Speaker 1: his reaction.
- 7:48Speaker 3: So, Mike, this is according to Jeremy Fowler from ESPN.
- 7:52Speaker 3: The New York Giants plan to start quarterback J.J. McCarthy
- 7:56Speaker 3: this Sunday versus the Texans. Your thoughts?
- 7:59Speaker 2: Well, I mean, I think that's the right move. JJ,
- 8:03Speaker 2: and I have no idea if it's going to help.
- 8:06Speaker 2: I'm not saying it's the right move because, oh, wow,
- 8:09Speaker 2: they found their quarterback in JJ McCarthy. Let's all know
- 8:12Speaker 2: the history of JJ McCarthy. It's not a long history
- 8:15Speaker 2: in the NFL, and it's not a great history in
- 8:17Speaker 2: the NFL by any stretch. But we know, I think
- 8:21Speaker 2: this is more about we know what Jameis Winston brings. A,
- 8:25Speaker 2: he doesn't bring a ton of mobility, and B, he
- 8:28Speaker 2: turns the ball over. and the quarterbacks have been sacked
- 8:32Speaker 2: 18 times by the Giants.
- 8:34Speaker 1: J.J.
- 8:35Speaker 2: McCarthy has a little more escapability to move around that,
- 8:39Speaker 2: and you kind of cross your fingers on the play.
- 8:41Speaker 2: I know we threw for 200-plus yards in the fourth quarter.
- 8:44Speaker 2: Don't let that fool you. I mean, he has had
- 8:48Speaker 2: some down moments in the NFL, some up moments when
- 8:51Speaker 2: he was the NFC player of the week one week
- 8:53Speaker 2: when everybody thought, oh, my God, what a pick, but
- 8:56Speaker 2: now he's on a different team, so... Let's relax and
- 8:59Speaker 2: hold our breath. The one thing you can do when
- 9:02Speaker 2: you're basically talking about two backups, you can switch back
- 9:07Speaker 2: and forth if you need to.
- 9:09Speaker 1: If J.J.
- 9:09Speaker 2: McCarthy struggles, put Jameis back in. If Jameis struggles, put J.J.
- 9:14Speaker 1: Back in.
- 9:15Speaker 2: You're not worried about anybody's mental state at this point.
- 9:20Speaker 2: in being pulled. So I do think this is the
- 9:23Speaker 2: right move for the, by the way, division-leading New York Giants.
- 9:29Speaker 1: It's pretty amazing. Mike, how quickly the conversation has shifted
- 9:34Speaker 1: from the Rams. Will they go undefeated this year? Will
- 9:36Speaker 1: they go 17-0? Now we're talking about will the Rams
- 9:39Speaker 1: make the playoffs? Should they be concerned, Mike? Because that
- 9:42Speaker 1: NFC is loaded, and if they're going to get in,
- 9:45Speaker 1: it's not winning that division. It will be through a
- 9:47Speaker 1: wild-card spot. Boy, it really is.
- 9:50Speaker 2: Listen, Matthew Stafford coming off an MVP year. You look
- 9:55Speaker 2: at their offense. Kyron Williams you know, kind of complained
- 9:59Speaker 2: a little bit when asked what could help. And he said,
- 10:02Speaker 2: me being on the field more, basically splitting some time
- 10:06Speaker 2: with Blake Corum. Understand the Rams use 12 and 13 personnel,
- 10:11Speaker 2: which is two and three tight ends, a lot. Devontae
- 10:15Speaker 2: Adams now has a hamstring injury issue. Puka Nakua, while
- 10:19Speaker 2: a great receiver, he is not this speedy, deep threat.
- 10:23Speaker 2: They don't really have a speedy, deep threat to take
- 10:27Speaker 2: the top off of a defense. They have two and
- 10:30Speaker 2: three tight ends out there at a time, and Puka Nakua,
- 10:32Speaker 2: who gets 1,000 targets. So it kind of lacks the
- 10:37Speaker 2: big playability there.
- 10:40Speaker 1: Of an offense.
- 10:40Speaker 2: And like you said, there are other teams in the
- 10:42Speaker 2: NFC that are playing extremely well. So, and defensively, we
- 10:47Speaker 2: still haven't had miles Garrett and Aaron Donald playing a
- 10:49Speaker 2: game together. Who knows when they will, they just lost
- 10:53Speaker 2: two more D linemen. So they're, they're hurting. They're getting
- 10:58Speaker 2: hit by the injury bug, but nobody can complain about
- 11:01Speaker 2: the injury bug because nobody's hurt more than San Francisco
- 11:04Speaker 2: and they're undefeated. Right. So that, that kills anybody saying
- 11:07Speaker 2: anything about, Oh, we have injuries unless obviously it's a quarterback. So, yeah,
- 11:13Speaker 2: I still think they're good enough to make the playoffs.
- 11:15Speaker 2: But anybody and I was not one of them who
- 11:18Speaker 2: was saying, oh, my God, 17 and 0. Boy, oh, boy,
- 11:21Speaker 2: that kind of looks foolish right now.
- 11:24Speaker 4: Mike, the Kyron Williams thing to me is kind of
- 11:26Speaker 4: getting a little bit glossed over. Here you have a
- 11:29Speaker 4: running back who's complaining about his timeshare. What do you
- 11:32Speaker 4: do if you're Sean McVay? Because if you give him
- 11:35Speaker 4: more carries, then that's telling everybody, hey, if you complain
- 11:38Speaker 4: to the media, I'm going to give in. And if
- 11:40Speaker 4: you don't, then maybe you're going to make one of
- 11:43Speaker 4: your better players disgruntled.
- 11:46Speaker 2: This is when you have to have a conversation with him, right? Now,
- 11:49Speaker 2: he catches the ball way more than Blake Horne does.
- 11:53Speaker 2: He's a better receiver. And he has more runs than
- 11:58Speaker 2: him during the season. This is when you have a
- 12:00Speaker 2: coach-player relationship to try and explain what the situation is.
- 12:04Speaker 2: And it's up to both of those, player and coach,
- 12:08Speaker 2: to work it out and have an understanding because you
- 12:10Speaker 2: don't want anybody disgruntled. You saw what happened in New York.
- 12:13Speaker 2: Najee Harris complained a little bit and got cut.
- 12:16Speaker 1: Bye. Yep. I mean, unbelievable. Yes.
- 12:19Speaker 2: I don't know how I'm supposed to get momentum. Well, hey,
- 12:22Speaker 2: now how are you going to get momentum sitting.
- 12:23Speaker 1: On the couch? Right?
- 12:26Speaker 2: So there's a time and a place to speak up.
- 12:28Speaker 1: Yes.
- 12:29Speaker 3: Mike, we have such a good Thursday night game tomorrow
- 12:31Speaker 3: between the Patriots and the Bears, Caleb Williams, Drake May.
- 12:35Speaker 3: Would you say the winner of tomorrow night's Bears-Patriots game
- 12:38Speaker 3: becomes the consensus number one overall pick in a 2024
- 12:41Speaker 3: NFL draft redraft?
- 12:42Speaker 1: I hate you.
- 12:47Speaker 2: What were they, one and three?
- 12:49Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 12:49Speaker 2: Jayden Daniels in between them.
- 12:50Speaker 1: Jayden Daniels sandwiched in between them. Yes.
- 12:52Speaker 2: Listen, one and three. How are you going to pick
- 12:54Speaker 2: between one and three?
- 12:55Speaker 1: I mean, listen.
- 12:58Speaker 2: Caleb Williams with Ben Johnson, if he stays healthy, Caleb
- 13:03Speaker 2: Williams will be the first Bears quarterback to throw for
- 13:07Speaker 2: over 4,000 yards. Not this year because he missed three games,
- 13:09Speaker 2: so it's not going to happen this year. But he's
- 13:11Speaker 2: going to. He's already– lived up to one of Ben
- 13:16Speaker 2: Johnson's predictions of completing more than 70%. He's still got
- 13:20Speaker 2: a lot of season to go. And Drake May we
- 13:24Speaker 2: know was inconsistent at the beginning of the year. Hopefully
- 13:28Speaker 2: for both teams, they both end up being great quarterbacks.
- 13:31Speaker 2: But Caleb Williams certainly has the bigger wow factor at
- 13:34Speaker 2: this point.
- 13:47Speaker 1: Mike, are you as confused about the Jalen Hurts situation
- 13:50Speaker 1: as everyone else is?
- 13:51Speaker 2: I mean, there are times you can play doctor on
- 13:55Speaker 2: radio or TV, play internet doctor.
- 13:58Speaker 1: This isn't one of them.
- 14:00Speaker 2: For an NFL player, you know if you've got a wrist,
- 14:04Speaker 2: a shoulder, an elbow, a knee, you know the rehab
- 14:08Speaker 2: and you know the time you're going to be out. Man,
- 14:11Speaker 2: a blood clot, especially a superficial blood clot, which isn't
- 14:16Speaker 2: a deep vein thrombosis blood clot like Wemby had. I
- 14:20Speaker 2: didn't know there was a difference in blood clots. And
- 14:23Speaker 2: now I'm reading, okay, should you travel? Should you take
- 14:26Speaker 2: long flights? Should you rest? Should you sleep? Should you move? Man,
- 14:29Speaker 2: I don't know. And the NFL has already said there's
- 14:33Speaker 2: going to be no investigation. We're pretty cool with what
- 14:36Speaker 2: Philly did. The NFLPA is doing exactly what the NFLPA
- 14:40Speaker 2: is doing and saying, we need to look at this.
- 14:43Speaker 2: Because if nothing else, you put a guy on a
- 14:45Speaker 2: plane for a long frickin' plane flight with a blood
- 14:49Speaker 2: clot when all of a sudden he landed and it
- 14:51Speaker 2: was in his lungs. So what the hell are we
- 14:54Speaker 2: doing here?
- 14:55Speaker 1: And you told him to play. You told him not
- 14:57Speaker 1: to sleep and play football.
- 14:58Speaker 2: Yeah, and there was an independent doctor who ESPN interviewed
- 15:04Speaker 2: who has nothing to do with this case, just talking
- 15:06Speaker 2: about the situation. And he was saying with a superficial
- 15:10Speaker 2: blood clot, Movement is okay. But is movement walking down
- 15:16Speaker 2: your driveway or playing in an NFL football game? There's
- 15:19Speaker 2: a big difference of movement. And I don't know the
- 15:23Speaker 2: answer to that. This isn't one where we can play
- 15:25Speaker 2: internet doctor and say, oh, yeah, this should have been done.
- 15:28Speaker 2: But it should be investigated for all the steps that
- 15:31Speaker 2: were taken.
- 15:32Speaker 1: Right. It's such a great point by you. It's movement just, hey,
- 15:34Speaker 1: I'm tired. I want to get up and take a
- 15:36Speaker 1: little stroll around the block. Right. A light stroll. Yeah.
- 15:41Speaker 2: Or I want to be chased down by big linemen
- 15:43Speaker 2: for 60 minutes.
- 15:45Speaker 1: Oh, my God. But listen, we love doctors. We shouldn't
- 15:49Speaker 1: play doctors on the radio. We have no idea. I'm
- 15:52Speaker 1: just telling you, Chris Bosh had blood clots. And he
- 15:55Speaker 1: told me movement bad, flying terrible. Like, that's it.
- 15:58Speaker 2: We know flying is terrible for it, for sure. So
- 16:03Speaker 2: this should be looked at, yes.
- 16:04Speaker 1: Mike, I'm wondering here, a second Buffalo Bill player has
- 16:08Speaker 1: been suspended here for spitting. And I am wondering, when
- 16:12Speaker 1: you were playing, it was a different time. Did anyone
- 16:15Speaker 1: ever spit in your face?
- 16:17Speaker 2: No, nobody spit in my face. I don't recall any
- 16:20Speaker 2: spitting cases.
- 16:21Speaker 1: Uh, incidents.
- 16:22Speaker 2: We just, we just cheap shot it.
- 16:27Speaker 1: But like, that's like, that's the most insulting for like,
- 16:30Speaker 1: if you're going to spit on someone, expect what's going
- 16:32Speaker 1: to happen to you on the back end of it. Right.
- 16:35Speaker 2: I can't even fathom doing that or watching a teammate
- 16:40Speaker 2: or opposing team player do that. And just be disgusted
- 16:44Speaker 2: with that display. It's embarrassing.
- 16:47Speaker 1: Yes.
- 16:48Speaker 2: It is embarrassing to do that. And then to get tossed,
- 16:52Speaker 2: you know, flagged from it, tossed from a game, whatever
- 16:55Speaker 2: comes from it. You deserve anything you get from it.
- 16:58Speaker 2: It is, I mean, you have to think about doing that.
- 17:02Speaker 2: You think about actually spitting on someone. And yeah, it
- 17:05Speaker 2: doesn't hurt the person, I get that. But it is
- 17:08Speaker 2: one of the biggest cop-out, cowardly things you can do.
- 17:13Speaker 1: Mike, the Texans got off to an 0-4 start. They
- 17:15Speaker 1: have won two straight. We know the defense is good.
- 17:17Speaker 1: The question was C.J. Stroud. He's been great. Can you
- 17:21Speaker 1: see the Texans still, even at 2-4, making it to
- 17:24Speaker 1: the playoffs, making a deep run in the playoffs? Because
- 17:27Speaker 1: I can. The Texans are good, Mike.
- 17:29Speaker 2: Yeah, the Texans are good.
- 17:30Speaker 1: Absolutely.
- 17:31Speaker 2: How they were 0-2, 0-3 the last couple of years,
- 17:34Speaker 2: and they still make the playoffs. I know they were 0-4,
- 17:37Speaker 2: but that division outside of Jacksonville isn't the most stacked
- 17:43Speaker 2: division in the world. So the question will be, Will
- 17:46Speaker 2: you get two teams out of that division, right?
- 17:49Speaker 1: Yes.
- 17:49Speaker 2: You'll probably get two out of the east. Will you
- 17:52Speaker 2: get two out of the north where every team has
- 17:54Speaker 2: a winning record? Will you get two out of the south?
- 17:57Speaker 2: And how many will you get out of the west
- 17:59Speaker 2: with Kansas City being undefeated and Denver having two losses?
- 18:03Speaker 2: So that's what it's going to come down to. But
- 18:05Speaker 2: do they have the ability to?
- 18:07Speaker 1: Absolutely.
- 18:08Speaker 2: As a former defensive player, you have a great defense.
- 18:10Speaker 2: I think you're always going to be in it.
- 18:12Speaker 1: And C.J.
- 18:13Speaker 2: Stroud is playing pretty well right now.
- 18:15Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 18:15Speaker 3: Mike, Ryan Day was asked about Julian Sane's injury, and
- 18:18Speaker 3: he said Ohio State is planning to be without the
- 18:21Speaker 3: quarterback throughout the postseason. Is that a final nail in
- 18:26Speaker 3: the coffin for this Ohio State season, or do you
- 18:28Speaker 3: think they still couldn't reach national title goals without Sane?
- 18:32Speaker 2: Well, I think it'll be tough. I mean, you have
- 18:35Speaker 2: great talent around you, but Sane did have 17 touchdowns
- 18:39Speaker 2: and two interceptions. Now, when you have Jeremiah Smith, that
- 18:43Speaker 2: certainly helps, right? So Luke Fahey goes in, the true freshman.
- 18:47Speaker 2: A lot wasn't asked of him. And he's 5'11, 206.
- 18:53Speaker 2: You have Tavian St. Clair, 6'4, 235. Two completely different quarterbacks. They,
- 19:00Speaker 2: you know, if you're going to look at the glass
- 19:01Speaker 2: half full instead of cracked and leaking with your starting
- 19:04Speaker 2: quarterback out, and you've got to play the next game,
- 19:07Speaker 2: so you have to look at the glass half full.
- 19:09Speaker 2: They have a bye this week. And a bye normally
- 19:12Speaker 2: means you self-scout. So they have actually a week, and
- 19:16Speaker 2: Ryan Day said they're going to both get first-team reps,
- 19:20Speaker 2: and they actually are going to have a decent amount,
- 19:22Speaker 2: a whole week of not having to game plan for
- 19:26Speaker 2: USC in two weeks until next week. So by then,
- 19:29Speaker 2: they can decide who a starting quarterback is. If this
- 19:32Speaker 2: was a normal week, they'd have to start game planning
- 19:35Speaker 2: and have to make a quicker decision. They have a
- 19:37Speaker 2: whole week now to self-scout, give both these guys some
- 19:40Speaker 2: equal reps, and see who they want to go it
- 19:43Speaker 2: doesn't mean they won't be interchangeable but they found themselves
- 19:47Speaker 2: it for the bad situation that they're in losing julian
- 19:50Speaker 2: sand a pretty good situation to figure out who the
- 19:53Speaker 2: next quarterback is going to be.
- 19:54Speaker 1: All right we'll get you out of here uh in
- 19:56Speaker 1: just a second uh i am wondering mike if you
- 19:59Speaker 1: agree with this i was ripping indiana fans they have
- 20:02Speaker 1: no right to look that distraught after losing a close
- 20:05Speaker 1: game at home against ohio state You won a national
- 20:08Speaker 1: championship a year ago. You're the defending national champs. This
- 20:11Speaker 1: is not like a football program that has a storied
- 20:15Speaker 1: history that plays meaningful games every year. They were the
- 20:18Speaker 1: worst college football program in the history of the sport
- 20:21Speaker 1: before they won a national championship game, before they won
- 20:24Speaker 1: a national championship. And I think Indiana fans, even while losing,
- 20:28Speaker 1: should have a smile on their face. Do you agree?
- 20:31Speaker 2: Yeah, I do agree. I mean, but but, you know,
- 20:35Speaker 2: they were the national champs. So the expectations are certainly
- 20:39Speaker 2: up there. And I mean, poor Nick Marsh, I mean,
- 20:42Speaker 2: catches what would have been the winning touchdown pass. And
- 20:44Speaker 2: he's got half of his foot out of bounds. That
- 20:46Speaker 2: was just brutal. Yes. I'm okay with them being upset
- 20:50Speaker 2: because expectations are high in Indiana, and that's fine. And
- 20:55Speaker 2: that was a hell of a game. Do you know
- 20:57Speaker 2: right now there are two undefeated teams in the Big Ten?
- 21:00Speaker 2: Ohio State, which is not a shock, and UCLA. UCLA
- 21:06Speaker 2: only has one ranked team on their schedule the rest
- 21:10Speaker 2: of the way, and that's the last game against USC.
- 21:13Speaker 2: They could easily be your rep in the Big Ten
- 21:17Speaker 2: championship game.
- 21:18Speaker 1: Yes. You agree with Mike Norvell? He has a right
- 21:20Speaker 1: to be upset about that call or no? About the...
- 21:24Speaker 1: Two final plays against Miami this past weekend. Did you
- 21:27Speaker 1: see them? The Hail Marys? Oh, you know what?
- 21:31Speaker 2: No, I didn't see him.
- 21:31Speaker 1: Okay. All right.
- 21:33Speaker 2: I was getting ready.
- 21:34Speaker 1: Oh, that's right. You were watching Notre Dame lose to BYU.
- 21:36Speaker 1: I'm sorry. You had to say it like that?
- 21:39Speaker 2: You had to say it like that? Are we done
- 21:43Speaker 2: with this segment?
- 21:44Speaker 1: I said I defended him. I said Notre Dame was robbed.
- 21:47Speaker 1: He went to Notre Dame. He didn't say it. I
- 21:49Speaker 1: said it.
- 21:51Speaker 2: Do you think that was pass interference?
- 21:54Speaker 1: I found it odd that the referees get together, discuss
- 21:58Speaker 1: the call, and one of the options is not, hey,
- 22:00Speaker 1: maybe the FSU receiver caught it. It wasn't even discussed
- 22:03Speaker 1: in the replay booth. Gino Toretta, I'll tell you, played
- 22:06Speaker 1: at UM, as you know, won a Heisman Trophy and
- 22:08Speaker 1: two national championships. He thought that Florida State caught the ball.
- 22:12Speaker 1: He did. Yeah. Yeah.
- 22:13Speaker 2: I mean, not disgust. It was kind of like the
- 22:15Speaker 2: Notre Dame game with a second left on the clock.
- 22:17Speaker 2: Not even disgust.
- 22:18Speaker 1: Yes.
- 22:19Speaker 2: Not even not even brought up. So, yeah, it's tough,
- 22:23Speaker 2: especially for a Florida State team who, you know, a
- 22:26Speaker 2: couple of years ago got screwed out of the playoffs
- 22:28Speaker 2: because their quarterback was hurt.
- 22:29Speaker 1: Right.
- 22:30Speaker 4: And again, I mean, if you're the refs and the
- 22:32Speaker 4: players are already the fans already on the field, you.
- 22:34Speaker 2: Kind of like, ah, let's just let me tell you,
- 22:37Speaker 2: you know, to your point. If they would have determined
- 22:40Speaker 2: there was a second left on the clock, it would
- 22:43Speaker 2: have been at least a half hour before they ran
- 22:45Speaker 2: that play.
- 22:46Speaker 1: Right.
- 22:46Speaker 2: Because those fans at BYU were not going to stop
- 22:48Speaker 2: running on the field at all. That would have been bedlam.
- 22:53Speaker 1: Yes. Mikey, were you pointing out, was that the Ohio
- 22:57Speaker 1: State game where the Canes were celebrating like they won
- 23:01Speaker 1: a national championship, and then the refs did throw a
- 23:03Speaker 1: flag five seconds after the celebration and said you didn't
- 23:06Speaker 1: win it, Ohio State won. Yes.
- 23:08Speaker 4: I just picture the refs being like, hey guys, I
- 23:10Speaker 4: think there was a second. And they look around and
- 23:12Speaker 4: they're kind of like, We could just leave.
- 23:14Speaker 1: We could just get out.
- 23:17Speaker 2: Of here.
- 23:17Speaker 1: What gets us home the quickest? Go ahead, Taylor, on
- 23:20Speaker 1: the way out here.
- 23:22Speaker 3: When Notre Dame loses to BYU, does it make it
- 23:24Speaker 3: worse that the BYU fan base seems so nice? It's
- 23:28Speaker 3: almost like you'd rather somebody insult you to your face
- 23:31Speaker 3: than smile at you.
- 23:33Speaker 2: I'm telling you, I take the team bus over, so
- 23:37Speaker 2: I'm walking in with the team, and The fans that
- 23:41Speaker 2: you're walking through and the workers are so nice.
- 23:45Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 23:46Speaker 2: They're like fist bumping, and I almost squared up thinking
- 23:50Speaker 2: they were being sarcastic, and I was ready to fight.
- 23:53Speaker 2: And then I'm like, wait a minute, they're being sincere.
- 23:56Speaker 2: They're like sincerely one of the nicest groups I've ever
- 23:59Speaker 2: seen in my life.
- 24:00Speaker 1: It was amazing. Bastards. Yeah. They were overselling it.
- 24:05Speaker 2: They showed some BYU students like actually– congratulating Notre Dame
- 24:14Speaker 2: players on the field. Like, Hey, good game. Instead of
- 24:17Speaker 2: like giving them the finger and just being in their face.
- 24:20Speaker 1: I was like, Oh, my God.
- 24:22Speaker 2: Right. It's the one most beautiful settings with the mountains
- 24:25Speaker 2: in the background.
- 24:25Speaker 1: Gorgeous.
- 24:26Speaker 2: And the people are unbelievably nice.
- 24:28Speaker 1: Yes. I'd prefer. I don't like it. I'm with Taylor
- 24:30Speaker 1: on this. Spit in my face.
- 24:32Speaker 4: You prefer what happened with Texas and Florida.
- 24:35Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. All right. Check them out. The goal, extend
- 24:40Speaker 1: to noon Eastern on ESPN Radio. We got it right. Mike,
- 24:43Speaker 1: thanks for doing this. We're coming up for Notre Dame Miami.
- 24:46Speaker 1: You said no. Theismann said no. And now I'm on
- 24:49Speaker 1: the Brady quid. We'll see you there.
