- 0:00Speaker 1: It's time for best Question of the week.
- 0:04Speaker 2: We don't know what the questions are until you email
- 0:07Speaker 2: them to US Radio from hal at X ninety six
- 0:09Speaker 2: dot com. You just put best question in the subject
- 0:12Speaker 2: line and ask us just about anything.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Got this message from our good friend Ranger Kate.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Kate says, I just returned from another National Park road trip,
- 0:27Speaker 2: and I'm reminded of the ranger in Great Sand Dunes
- 0:30Speaker 2: that was chatting with me and my kids as we
- 0:32Speaker 2: were being sworn in as junior rangers. He asked us
- 0:35Speaker 2: how many badges we'd accumulated, About forty, we said, and
- 0:38Speaker 2: he asked each of us.
- 0:39Speaker 1: What our favorite park was.
- 0:40Speaker 2: So I thought I would ask the lords of Morning Radio,
- 0:43Speaker 2: what's your favorite National park you visited? And what's your
- 0:46Speaker 2: favorite memory from a trip to a national prince.
- 0:49Speaker 3: I have several favorites for different reasons. I have a
- 0:55Speaker 3: very great fondness for Great Glacier National Park, me too,
- 1:00Speaker 3: Montana and up into Canada because I went there first
- 1:05Speaker 3: time on a motorcycle, took a motorcycle trip from all
- 1:10Speaker 3: through there, and then the second time I went there.
- 1:13Speaker 3: I believe that's probably where my son was conceived. Probably
- 1:20Speaker 3: and as a matter of fact, I know so that
- 1:22Speaker 3: I have great memories of Glacier National Park, and of
- 1:25Speaker 3: course it's beautiful. It's just a beautiful place to be.
- 1:28Speaker 3: I have really fond memories of Yellowstone National Park because
- 1:32Speaker 3: that's the first National park I think I ever went
- 1:35Speaker 3: to when I was a little kid. Oh and I
- 1:37Speaker 3: remember it vividly. It was back then there were bears
- 1:40Speaker 3: everywhere lining the road and people would do stupid things
- 1:44Speaker 3: like get out of their cars and feed them. Yeah.
- 1:48Speaker 3: And then I've been to Yellowstone. I probably have been
- 1:51Speaker 3: to Yellowstone more times than I've been any other park.
- 1:55Speaker 3: So those, and then have a really fondness for Capitol
- 1:58Speaker 3: Reef National Park. Been there a lot of times, and
- 2:01Speaker 3: it's small and it's quiet, and I like Capitol Reef
- 2:06Speaker 3: a lot of.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Them mm hmm uh. My favorite memories.
- 2:10Speaker 2: Some of them are very similar to to Ranger cats
- 2:13Speaker 2: uh and and to Echo You Built a Glacier and
- 2:16Speaker 2: Grand Teeton, which.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Are oh yeah similar. But when Jonesy, my daughter was
- 2:23Speaker 1: just tiny, we went.
- 2:25Speaker 2: To a ranger talk, and if you've never done that,
- 2:29Speaker 2: take your kids to a ranger talk. If you're if
- 2:31Speaker 2: you're if you're camping at a National forest. Thereat they're
- 2:34Speaker 2: great and uh, little Jonesy raised her hand because she
- 2:39Speaker 2: had a little A little forest fact.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Was the talk about.
- 2:43Speaker 2: I can't remember what the ranger talk was about. I
- 2:44Speaker 2: think they were talking about forest fires actually, And she
- 2:47Speaker 2: raised her hand and she said, you know, pine cones
- 2:50Speaker 2: have seeds in them and the only way that they
- 2:52Speaker 2: come out is in a fire when they she was
- 2:55Speaker 2: just a little tiny and she got a little badge
- 2:57Speaker 2: for for knowing, for knowing that.
- 2:59Speaker 1: Really are you wearing that right now?
- 3:01Speaker 3: Katie?
- 3:01Speaker 1: What do you have there?
- 3:03Speaker 3: Oh that's your pine com there's Katie's pink she wears
- 3:07Speaker 3: a pine cone around her neck.
- 3:11Speaker 4: There you go.
- 3:13Speaker 1: But yeah, just take take your kids to arranger talk.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Carrie.
- 3:21Speaker 4: I have a lot of fond memories of Capital Reef
- 3:23Speaker 4: because we'd go there every summer with my relatives when
- 3:26Speaker 4: I was when I was a kid, and we have
- 3:27Speaker 4: family down in Wayne County and all that. But I
- 3:30Speaker 4: think my favorite one is probably Goblin Valley.
- 3:34Speaker 1: That's just cool. Just no place like that.
- 3:37Speaker 4: Yeah, because it was like an alien landscape, you know.
- 3:40Speaker 4: So I was walking around Goblin Valley pretending to be
- 3:43Speaker 4: mister Spock.
- 3:45Speaker 3: You of course strange alien landscape, Bryce Canyon and uh
- 3:53Speaker 3: Cedar breaks.
- 3:54Speaker 2: I mean, we're so lucky to have so many of
- 3:57Speaker 2: them here. And I bet it's like California where Californians
- 3:59Speaker 2: don't go to Disneyland. I bet a lot of Utahn's
- 4:02Speaker 2: haven't been our national parks here.
- 4:04Speaker 3: I'll tell you, I don't believe except to Yellowstone, I
- 4:07Speaker 3: don't believe my parents ever took us to a national park.
- 4:11Speaker 3: My grandparents took us to Yellowstone Ones, but my parents,
- 4:16Speaker 3: we just don't didn't do that. They never took us skiing,
- 4:18Speaker 3: They never took us to a national park. I don't
- 4:20Speaker 3: think we ever really went on vacation very often. It
- 4:23Speaker 3: was just go read a book, Okay, But yeah, I
- 4:28Speaker 3: mean I've had a great, great experience. Is a lot
- 4:31Speaker 3: of different. I'm trying to think if I've done any
- 4:34Speaker 3: national parks in the East, and I guess I probably
- 4:39Speaker 3: I have not.
- 4:40Speaker 1: And when we've done the national parks, this is kind
- 4:42Speaker 1: of fun. I bet Keith does this. They all have
- 4:44Speaker 1: gift shops and things.
- 4:45Speaker 2: Yeah, so we always get the kids like a little
- 4:48Speaker 2: Christmas tree ornament from the place where we are, and
- 4:52Speaker 2: it's kind of fun at Christmas to have a bunch
- 4:54Speaker 2: of ornaments from all the different parks with.
- 4:57Speaker 3: Oh you've done this too, Carrie, snow mobiling and Yellowstone.
- 5:01Speaker 4: Nomobiling in Yellowstone was pretty memorable too.
- 5:03Speaker 3: Yeah, and I've stayed in that lodge at Old Faithful.
- 5:07Speaker 3: I've rented rooms there before. I've never stayed there, but
- 5:11Speaker 3: it was pretty cool. It's remarkable.
- 5:13Speaker 1: Yeah, there you go.
- 5:17Speaker 2: Do you have a question for US email US Radio
