- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop, and
- 0:23let's start your day off in a fantastic way, everybody.
- 0:27Good morning. I have a really cool project
- 0:32that I'm doing on the side and I decided this a long time ago to
- 0:36dive into my DNA, my family history.
- 0:40I, I mean, you never get like a lot of like strong answers from
- 0:44people in my family when you ask questions.
- 0:47So I was curious, I was genuinely curious and I really
- 0:50wanted to understand more, especially about my dad's side
- 0:56of the family. Well, as it turns out, as I'm
- 0:58going through this, I'm learning so much not only about my dad's
- 1:02side of the family, but I'm learning it about my mom's side
- 1:05of the family. And that was not something I had
- 1:08anticipated because I had, I had really known a great deal about
- 1:15my grandfather on my mother's side because I saw that they had
- 1:20somebody else had done a huge swipe at DNA and it went all the
- 1:24way back to the Mayflower on my grandfather Russell.
- 1:28And I was super excited about that.
- 1:30And I, I got a copy that they had done.
- 1:34So I have all kinds of names and all kinds of details about that.
- 1:39Not necessarily details that I would say give me a great, you
- 1:43know, knowledge of the people themselves, but definitely that
- 1:47I have details on the, you know, their names, but not the people
- 1:53themselves. And I really wanted to
- 1:55understand the people themselves.
- 1:57Like for me, that was just such a big thing.
- 2:00So I started, I said, well, first let me go and like, you
- 2:03know, DNA, do all the stuff, try to figure out some aspects of
- 2:07some things so that I could get some clarity on, you know, who
- 2:11these people were. And as it turns out, like I
- 2:14never knew that my grandmother's dad remarried.
- 2:18I did not know that we did never, we never talked about
- 2:21him. My grandmother was not a fan.
- 2:23So we just didn't talk. And I, and it's so it's so crazy
- 2:27to me because I often forget that people are people when it
- 2:31comes to this stuff. And I'm like, oh, it's
- 2:32fascinating to me. But to her, it was a painful
- 2:36situation and she didn't want to talk about it.
- 2:38And I, I can see that. I can see how this all kind of
- 2:42plays out now. So as I'm going through it, I'm
- 2:45stunned to see certain things like I'm in the ancestry site
- 2:51and I'm getting more and more excited because they're saying,
- 2:54oh, here's a clue. And with AI, it's unbelievable
- 2:59how fast this goes. What used to take forever and
- 3:02was extremely frustrating is taking me far less time.
- 3:07And yet last night I was just doing it for 15 minutes because
- 3:10I have to put a timer on because I will go down a rabbit hole and
- 3:14I will not come out and I will spend way too much time down
- 3:17there. So I, I put the timer on just
- 3:19just to make sure that I'm not like getting lost in it.
- 3:22And right away it popped up something that said, Oh, you
- 3:24have a clue. Would you like to see your clue?
- 3:27Well, when someone says to you, would you like to see your clue?
- 3:29I mean, they're, so they're so great at like getting you into
- 3:32it. And I was like, I'm not going
- 3:33to, not going to subscribe because if I subscribe, I'll
- 3:36never come back out. So I was doing just the minimum
- 3:39after getting all the results and seeing things.
- 3:41And then I was like, you know what, what am I doing?
- 3:43I really want to know why not? Because I have this connection
- 3:48to being like, you know, an, I'm an only child.
- 3:51So being in this position of being an only child, you want to
- 3:54make connections to your past. You want to see like who else
- 3:58was out there? Who did I not know?
- 3:59Who are the people that I, I, I come from?
- 4:02Like, I just want to know. So of course, right away I'm
- 4:07like thinking, OK, I'll, I'll think on it.
- 4:09I'll think on it. So all all night long, I thought
- 4:11about it all night long. I had these like, Oh, I really
- 4:14want to know, blah, blah, blah. We got up this morning and of
- 4:16course, right away I'm like, OK, I'm totally going to do this,
- 4:19but I've got to put the timer on.
- 4:20But you click on this whole little thing, there's like a
- 4:23little leaf and you click on it and it shows you the 19.
- 4:27I was able to find the 1950 census report and on that it was
- 4:32my grandmother's handwriting, who I never got to know.
- 4:35My father's mother. She passed away five years
- 4:38before I was born, but I got to see her handwriting, what she
- 4:43listed on how she wrote it out on the census report.
- 4:47And I'm, I was just like, I was so enthralled with it because
- 4:52she answered the questions like right down to the nitty gritty
- 4:56about the fact that my dad was a paperboy and that, you know, the
- 5:02little details and such nice handwriting she had.
- 5:06And she put put it all on there and I felt like this immediate
- 5:11connection to just even seeing her handwriting.
- 5:14And that got me thinking about This is why these things are so
- 5:19big for so many people because they're looking for connection.
- 5:23And it always comes back to us as human beings being the
- 5:28connection freaks that we are. We really think we don't need
- 5:31it, but we find things to be connected to.
- 5:33I'm very connected to my farm. I'm very connected to all my
- 5:36animals, my plants, talking to them.
- 5:39Yeah, I get it everywhere. But this, this is something
- 5:42different and it's something neat.
- 5:44So I wanted to share it with all of you because I don't know if
- 5:46anybody else has ever done it, but boy, I have to tell you, it
- 5:49is quite enthralling when you get into it.
- 5:51So I hope you guys have a blessed day.
- 5:53I promise I'm not going to go too far down that rabbit hole
- 5:56each day, but I am definitely going down the rabbit hole and I
- 5:59hope you have a blessed day and I will see you tomorrow.
- 6:02Bye.
