- 0:18I'm Jessica and this is Teva K Rambles, where a couple of
- 0:21friends review Korean dramas. And we're here for the final
- 0:24spooky season episode of 2023. And we're here with a ghost
- 0:29story. It's finally happening.
- 0:32We're on brand for the final episode.
- 0:35A my guest is dancing. My guest today is Lola from Lola
- 0:40pops off about K dramas. How are you, Lola?
- 0:44Hello. I'm doing well and super excited
- 0:47to be on this episode talking about spooky things.
- 0:50Yeah. So what happened was, I asked
- 0:54you if you had seen Revenant, because I saw that you had
- 0:56covered it on one of your episodes where it was like a
- 0:59bunch of different shows. I don't know how you do this,
- 1:02'cause you, you cover so many shows.
- 1:05And I had seen, like, Revenant pop up, and I was like, oh, did
- 1:07she ever finish that show? So I asked you and you were
- 1:10like, yeah, I actually did. And I was like, perfect.
- 1:14Are you willing to come on to do this episode sort of last
- 1:18minute, last minute for me, 'cause I usually plan things
- 1:21out. Yeah.
- 1:23No, I appreciate that. I appreciate that so much.

- 2:35It's a nice little community over there, but man, it is
- 2:38getting to be a mouthful to say all these names in the podcast.
- 2:43All right. So Lola, Are you ready to talk
- 2:45about this ghost story? Yes.
- 2:47I am ready. All right, so give us the Drama
- 2:51Bean synopsis. I went with the Drama Bean
- 2:53synopsis because the MDL synopsis and the Asian Wiki
- 2:57synopsis did not make sense. It was incoherent.
- 3:00Oh yes, Oh yes. The Asian wiki one was horrible.
- 3:04And I used that one when I in my episode and I had to clean it
- 3:08up. I had to clean it up myself
- 3:10because, like, it just didn't make OK precise the point.
- 3:14Here's the synopsis. Here we go.
- 3:15A literature professor whose mother was once killed by a
- 3:18demon recognizes the same demon in a young woman.
- 3:22As she slowly realizes that she's being possessed and
- 3:24horrible things start to happen around her, they team up with a
- 3:27police investigator to free the woman from demonic control.
- 3:31If you just switch demonic to straight up ghost.
- 3:34Ghost. That's it.
- 3:35That's the Yeah. I don't know why they're used.
- 3:37Demons. Yeah.
- 3:38No ghosts. It's Ghost and it's very clear
- 3:41Ghost, clear delineation in the show that it's Ghost.
- 3:45So yes, this aired just this year from June to July 23.
- 3:49I think it was a little early for this too.
- 3:52Early. Yeah.
- 3:53Way too early, yeah. It all should have been in the
- 3:56fall, not in the summer, but whatever.
- 3:59Well, I wonder if it has to do with in South Korea they would
- 4:03leave like in. The dead of summer, like the
- 4:05hottest time of the year. You're supposed to watch scary
- 4:08things or like do scary things to like relieve yourself of the
- 4:12heat. I feel like I've heard that
- 4:15somewhere and all my watching of K drama stuff or like just
- 4:19Korean that television, I'd be the case.
- 4:22I think. I heard that.
- 4:23I think because I realized that I think maybe running man, they
- 4:26would always do like their scariest.
- 4:28Like haunted house episodes in the summer, and I think that's
- 4:32where it comes from. I don't know.
- 4:34I'm just saying that. But it seems early for us, for
- 4:37sure. Yeah, well, it's only 12
- 4:41episodes long and it was directed by Yi Jung Lim, who has
- 4:46directed VIP from 2019 and nothing else.
- 4:49Literally not a single other thing this person has done.
- 4:53That's incredible. I I think that's incredible.
- 4:57But the writer, the writer's famous Keelan, he wrote it and
- 5:02she's written things like all seasons of Kingdom on Netflix
- 5:06which is a zombie K drama. Saguk K drama.
- 5:09It's amazing. Highly recommend it.
- 5:12She's written sign Phantom 3 Days Signal one of the best K
- 5:16dramas of all time GD Sign recently, which I heard mixed
- 5:21things about. But this is a big name for for
- 5:25the right? Name.
- 5:26Yeah, huge signal was enough. Like it.
- 5:28You didn't have to get to anything else.
- 5:30And you're like, you're right, Signal.
- 5:31Got it. You know what else is stacked?
- 5:35This small cast that we have is also pretty well regarded,
- 5:39right? You have Kim Terry as Sanyong,
- 5:42the main lead, and she's been in seven movies, including The
- 5:46Handmaiden. I always love bringing up the
- 5:48Handmaiden. No, of course.
- 5:50As you should. As you should want to.
- 5:53Oh, my goodness, the glorious the handmaiden.
- 5:56Oh yes. Oh my God.
- 5:58We we actually reviewed the Handmaiden on the Patreon feed.
- 6:01Me and Miguel, who's been on the podcast before we watched it.
- 6:05We just laughed our way through that review because I don't
- 6:07know, like if sometimes you talk about a a show or a movie and
- 6:13you, you feel sort of embarrassed and giddy as if you
- 6:16watched it with a. Parent.
- 6:18Yes, yes. Embarrassed.
- 6:20You're like, Oh my gosh, I'm like, blushing.
- 6:22I'm blushing talking about this, but I am an adult.
- 6:27I could talk about this without blushing, but no, you can't.
- 6:31That's exactly how that episode went for the Patreon feed with
- 6:35the Handmaiden. So yeah, another reason to jump
- 6:38on the Patreon feed. But anyway, she's done a bunch
- 6:41of movies. Not that many like just a few.
- 6:43And then not that many like TV shows either, really.
- 6:47She did Mr. Sunshine, which was a big one.
- 6:51Huge. I I say big.
- 6:52It's huge. Which we've covered on the
- 6:54podcast. And 2521 from 2022?
- 6:59Well, yes. We're both like, dancing.
- 7:02Great. I don't be great 2521.
- 7:06Yeah, what a great drama, bro. So both of those have episodes
- 7:10on the feed. You could say that this is a
- 7:12Quintiri podcast a little bit. I love that, yeah.
- 7:17Now she stars opposite Au Chung. Say, who plays Yom Heisang, who
- 7:23is the folklore professor? Not I think the synopsis said he
- 7:27was a literature professor. He's a folklore professor.
- 7:31Folklore. Yeah, exactly.
- 7:33Yeah, he's amazing. He's been in a ton of things, 55
- 7:37movies, 30 plus shows. You might have seen him in the
- 7:40call on Netflix, which is a movie also very on brand for
- 7:45spooky season. I if you like Signal, you will
- 7:51like the call, I guess because it's a very spooky serial killer
- 7:55version. Well, not that Signal doesn't
- 7:57have serial killers. But yes, watch the call.
- 8:02And then his his shows, like you've seen him in so many
- 8:05things. But here are some of the movie,
- 8:07the shows that I have here in my notes I have I Miss you, which
- 8:12was traumatizing. Marry him if you dare.
- 8:15One of the most terrible K dramas I've ever seen.
- 8:19Missing 9. I don't know if you've watched
- 8:21this, this one from 2017. No, I didn't.
- 8:24OK, so I skipped it. I remember watching it as it was
- 8:29airing. And the problem was it was like
- 8:33a lost scenario. They were trapped on an island
- 8:38after a plane crash and I was like, oh, this is going to be
- 8:40really good. They had like a bunch of
- 8:41intrigue and then just like the show lost, it just crashed and
- 8:46burned like it was like. Bad.
- 8:48It was like the actual plane. It was just a bad show.
- 8:53And then. But he rebounded, right?
- 8:55Like he's had really good projects in recent years.
- 8:57When the Camellia blooms from 2019, which I really appreciate
- 9:01that show, we covered it on the podcast Hot Stove League, which
- 9:03I've heard endless good things about that show.
- 9:06It's OK to not be OK, which he was tremendous in that show.
- 9:12Doesn't matter like how you necessarily feel about the show.
- 9:15He was amazing in that show. And then Little women from last
- 9:20year, Sweet Home is coming up, Sweet Home two and three.
- 9:25He's in the second and third season, So Sweet Home on
- 9:29Netflix, which we've covered season one of Sweet Home just a
- 9:33few episodes back if you want to listen to it.
- 9:36So how do you feel about these two people?
- 9:40And then Jung say and Kitty. I'm a huge key.
- 9:44Kim, Teddy, Stan. I like to say I'm a Stan.
- 9:48I write for her. I I think when I originally
- 9:51talked about this drama The Revenant, I said the only reason
- 9:55only one who could get me to watch a horror drama would be
- 9:58Kim Teddy. So I adore her.
- 10:00She is enough to convince me to watch a horror K drama.
- 10:04And then Jung Say absolutely love him.
- 10:06And I thought it was interesting that you brought up.
- 10:08I miss you. When you said traumatizing, it
- 10:12is the best way to describe that.
- 10:13The best way to describe that drama was absolutely
- 10:16traumatizing. But yes, I've loved him since
- 10:20I've seen him and things. He's a scene stealer to me.
- 10:24Like in some of the things he's been in, he can come out of the
- 10:27the woodwork and you're like, Oh my goodness, he's totally
- 10:30stealing the show for me right now.
- 10:32So I absolutely adore him as well, for sure.
- 10:35Love it. I think this is a newcomer Hong
- 10:37Kong plays Hong. Say this is the cop character.
- 10:41I had never seen him before. This was my first time.
- 10:43Well, not my first time because I've seen him in bit parts and
- 10:48other shows, right? So Rain.
- 10:49He was in Rain or Shine, AKA just Between Lovers.
- 10:53I don't remember that man at all.
- 10:55He's in Life on Mars, which Curtis from Infatuation podcast
- 10:58shout out to him because he loves that show and recommends
- 11:01that every time I talk to him about Cage dramas, he's like,
- 11:04Have you seen Life on Mars yet? I have not.
- 11:07Also, I have not either. OK, so we're both in the same
- 11:11boat. We're both in the same boat.
- 11:13So we also have Liv from 2018, which came up recently for me
- 11:19because I was on the Infatuation Pod K Drama draft episode and
- 11:23someone recommended, oh chose it for their, their pick, one of
- 11:27their draft picks. And I was like, oh cool, never
- 11:29heard of it. Got to put that on the list.
- 11:31That's three years long. He was also Hong Kong was also
- 11:36in DP, which we covered a couple of episodes ago for a spooky
- 11:42season. Lovers of the Red Sky and Week
- 11:45Hero Class One, Had you seen this dude before?
- 11:49So yes. Like you, I've seen him kind of
- 11:52like, I don't remember him in live.
- 11:53Like I remember that I watched that drama, but I don't remember
- 11:56him in that, right? I I watched him in DI, watched
- 12:00DP, didn't remember him in DP. I started Lovers of the Red Sky
- 12:05and then dropped it kind of remembered him in the In Lovers
- 12:09of the Red Sky kind of, but not much.
- 12:12And then Week here Class one was one of my top K drums of last
- 12:17year and he was one of the reasons I absolutely loved week
- 12:23here. Class One highly recommend it if
- 12:26you can stomach bullying and violence, but he in there the
- 12:31entire cast was amazing. And so I pinned him as someone
- 12:36to keep an eye out for because like, obviously I wasn't paying
- 12:39attention to him before. But that was another motivator
- 12:43for me to watch. The Revenant was him because I
- 12:45had told myself I want to keep an eye on him and check out any
- 12:48new things that he would be in. And so when I saw him in here
- 12:51with Kim Teddy, I was like, OK, I can see him and something
- 12:55else. And he's not playing a high
- 12:56school student. So it was really exciting to
- 12:58jump in to see him in this. That's so great to hear.
- 13:02I think we have a couple other veterans that I'll just shout
- 13:04out real fast. We have Kim.
- 13:06Hey, Sook, who plays Bianki. She is the grandmother of, I was
- 13:12gonna say Sancte, but that's not his name here.
- 13:14That's his character. And it's OK to not be OK?
- 13:17No, She plays his song's mother. Grandmother.
- 13:23Yes. And then yeah, Grandma, it's
- 13:26Grandma. Grandma, Grandmother and then
- 13:28Paktuyung plays Kyung Moon, Who is Kim Teddy's mom in the show?
- 13:32And then Kim Wun Hey the Great Kim Wun hey plays Montoon, Who
- 13:37is the other cop in the show? So what did you think of this
- 13:43show? I don't think I know how you
- 13:46feel about rubbing it at all. I have no inkling.
- 13:49You have no idea. OK.
- 13:51So I did go ahead briefly mention that I.
- 13:55Don't watch horror. That's not my Forte.
- 13:58I don't like it. I'm not a big fan of it and I
- 14:02haven't watched a horror K drama in years, I'm going to be honest
- 14:06with you. So this was a really big feat
- 14:08for me. I was very, very impressed with
- 14:11myself that I even started the drama, let alone finish it.
- 14:15And like I said, I had two reasons to start it, which was
- 14:17Kim, Teddy and Honky Young. Since I've.
- 14:20He's a a developing crush, I must say, and I was terrified.
- 14:27The opening alone of the drama was was too much for me, So I
- 14:32had to like Fast forward it. Not because I was trying to
- 14:35hurry to the episode, but because I was just too afraid to
- 14:37sit through the actual opening of this drama.
- 14:40So that's how I felt. I was terrified.
- 14:43The opening episodes, I was so scared.
- 14:47But then there was a moment and the drama where.
- 14:51It wasn't that scary anymore. And we'll talk.
- 14:53We'll talk about why I felt like it wasn't that scary after a
- 14:56certain point. And I but I want to say I
- 15:03actually liked it. By the end of it, I have to say
- 15:06I actually liked it. And as someone who's not a big
- 15:09horror fan, I think I may have been coming at it.
- 15:13And being a little bit more gentle with it than maybe
- 15:15someone else who's used to horror things and really enjoys
- 15:18horror. So I think I'm, you know, I was
- 15:20being really soft on it and be like, oh, I actually like this.
- 15:23But there were some some glaring kind of, like issues that I had
- 15:27with it. And it had a lot to do with like
- 15:30that middle of the drama. So it was like the beginning I
- 15:33really enjoy. Then there was something that
- 15:34kind of went awry in the middle for me.
- 15:37And then right at the end I was like, OK, and then I summed it
- 15:41up as me being. Like, oh, I think I liked it.
- 15:44You know, I think that's how I came away with my feelings for
- 15:47the revenues. Like, I think I liked it.
- 15:49I was able to sit through it. It was a horror drama.
- 15:53So I thought that was really, you know, enough for me to say I
- 15:56liked it, but I made it to the end.
- 15:59Wow. I kind of feel the same way as
- 16:01you. It's not that I I'm watching
- 16:03horror all the time, but I think that I'm more comfortable with
- 16:06thrillers and I don't like, will never watch possession stories.
- 16:13I know that is my line that I don't cross.
- 16:18I know. It's like I said that in my
- 16:22episode. I talked about this in my
- 16:23initial like, thoughts, wanted, I said.
- 16:26Miss me with anything about demons and ghosts.
- 16:29Possessing people like that is my Forte.
- 16:32Like that's not my Forte. That's where I also I'm like, I
- 16:36steer far away from that. And so again it was Kim Terry.
- 16:41Like she's the only reason I watched this trauma.
- 16:43She was the only reason, Yeah, I agree with you that the
- 16:47beginning and the end of the show are the best, the middle
- 16:49episodes. It's not that they're saggy,
- 16:51it's that they're it's almost like they try to do a little
- 16:56like ghost story of the week. They had to solve a little
- 17:00something, something so that they can get to the next stage
- 17:03of their own, like ghosts that they're dealing with.
- 17:06And I don't think it necessarily worked for me because I just
- 17:11ended up getting confused. I was like, how does this relate
- 17:14back to the original Ghost and how is this going to resolve
- 17:20itself? Why are they feels like they're
- 17:22wasting time or? I don't know, it just didn't.
- 17:25There was something about it and I still don't know what it is
- 17:28that I was like checked out a little bit about it.
- 17:32OK, cool, but the. Show.
- 17:35Yeah, we're on the same page, but I think that the show does a
- 17:38really good job building a steady, stylish sense of dread
- 17:44throughout that will keep you sort of on edge and coming back
- 17:48even though you're not. This is not a typical horror
- 17:52show, which I've watched. Horror shows, right?
- 17:54I literally was watching. What's it called?
- 18:00Oh my God, I forgot the name of the show.
- 18:01But it's the one on Netflix. Haunted Haunting of Hill House.
- 18:07You know that one? Oh, gosh, no, thank you.
- 18:10OK, so because my sister is, I know of it.
- 18:14Yes, I know of it. Evidently I'm living with a
- 18:16horror fan because she's watching everything that the
- 18:19director slash writer of Haunting of Hill House has put
- 18:22out currently. And so I'm like re watching it
- 18:26with her. And I was like, this is totally
- 18:28different than how Revenant is, right?
- 18:32How this one was put together in in the West.
- 18:35We rely so much on ambiance and jump scares, right?
- 18:42This is not that show at all. Yes, it has that dark
- 18:47cinematography, but you know, I can watch this during the day
- 18:51like this is like and still be able to see the screen.
- 18:54During the day, I watched it early in the morning so I didn't
- 18:57have any issues when I went to bed at night.
- 18:59Oh no, I just mean, well that too, but I just mean that you
- 19:03it's not so dark like when you watch it.
- 19:07Cinematography wise it's not so dark that you have to watch it
- 19:11at night. Otherwise you just the glare
- 19:12from the sun is too much and you're not going to be able to
- 19:15see anything on the screen. So that I appreciate that they
- 19:19didn't. What's another example of them
- 19:21doing that in the West? Oh, like any battle in Game of
- 19:24Thrones that happened at night, I feel like, well, I guess I
- 19:27have to watch this at night in a pitch dark room, because
- 19:30otherwise I'm not going to be able to see anything on the
- 19:31screen. So things like that.
- 19:34That's so true. Yeah, yeah, unless you see it,
- 19:37then you're like, oh, I can't see anything.
- 19:42I guess I need to create a condition to watch this show.
- 19:46It's not like that for Revenant. The cinematography is not that
- 19:49rude, but it does present this sort of mystical world that is
- 19:56very threatening at night. Like because of the the way it's
- 19:59set up, the lore and everything. The night time is going to be
- 20:03where shit goes down, basically. But.
- 20:06I I appreciated it. I appreciated it that it was
- 20:09also shrouded in a lot of ambiguity.
- 20:13I think I'd learned to appreciate it.
- 20:14I don't think it was necessarily my favorite thing.
- 20:16That so much was like, oh, we thought it was this and said
- 20:20it's that. And what's the significance of
- 20:22this? Well, in this book that my dad
- 20:24wrote, it's about this. And this means that.
- 20:27And what do these numbers mean? Oh, like, you know what I'm
- 20:30saying? Like, it was very like clues and
- 20:34mystery. And if you're not into that
- 20:36that's, that's not your bag, then I'm sorry.
- 20:38Like Revenant is not for you because it was very much a
- 20:42mystery thriller. It was.
- 20:44I completely agree. I think for me, a lot of the
- 20:47horror did come in the early episodes and the end correct
- 20:51middle part was really like you just said.
- 20:54It was kind of like it was just like a thriller mystery.
- 20:58When are we gonna find out the next clue?
- 21:00I mean we literally in this drama are looking for items
- 21:03objects like you know so it's it's scavenger not so I I
- 21:07completely agree that there was a big chunk of the drama that
- 21:10felt like it wasn't that scary it wasn't as horror founded or
- 21:14based. And I think another thing that I
- 21:18liked about this drama which I don't know it, I think it may be
- 21:22something that's kind of like signature to the director.
- 21:25I mean sorry the writer where she, I feel like she has this
- 21:30this way of making sure that things are really grounded in
- 21:33history. You know obviously Kingdom is a
- 21:35say good but like she that's one of her forte's.
- 21:38So I feel like the one of the highlights of this drama is the
- 21:42way that they kind of go back in time a little bit and they pull
- 21:45out these rituals and you know these ideas like exorcisms and
- 21:50and and how that and how that ties to folklore and kind of
- 21:54Korean folklore. And so I ended up really
- 21:56enjoying that element. And I think again, to me that
- 22:01was more, I mean that's throughout the whole drama cause
- 22:04like even like I said, the ghost of the day, that was a part of
- 22:07it. Like some of the ghosts were
- 22:09these ghost types that you would find in these lores in the lore.
- 22:14So I thought that was kind of interesting.
- 22:16But again, did it go on too long?
- 22:19Did we have too much of that? Yeah, I think we did.
- 22:23And The thing is, the show is tight at 12 episodes, but maybe
- 22:27it's tight 10. I agree.
- 22:31I agree. I was.
- 22:32I was thinking, I think when you told me that we were going to
- 22:35talk about this, we were like, you asked me to talk about this
- 22:37drama. I, for some reason in my head
- 22:39thought it ended at 8 episodes. Like I was like, oh, I just have
- 22:42to go over 8 episodes and it was like, no, actually there's 12.
- 22:46So I think I myself, my mind chalked out a lot of this drama
- 22:50when I was going back over it. And again, I think they're a big
- 22:54chunk of it. It's half the drama.
- 22:56So, right, right. Yeah, we're gonna have to talk
- 23:00about some of these details. Maybe that I don't.
- 23:01Part that you're gonna have to help me on it cuz I try and
- 23:04block some of that stuff out. Like as soon as I watch it, I'm
- 23:08like, that's too much to remember.
- 23:10I am going to just chalk it up to the like I summarize in my
- 23:14head and then that's all I remember.
- 23:15Yeah, I I like I said I thought it was 8 episodes.
- 23:18I completely deleted episodes from my mind.
- 23:21So I think. What kept me going as well was
- 23:26the performances from Kim, Teri and Ochung say.
- 23:29I thought they were tremendous. I thought they were amazingly
- 23:33talented in this show. And Kim Teddy playing dual parts
- 23:36basically with her and her other version I guess you could say
- 23:44really unique how she juxtaposed them and how she created 2
- 23:48wildly different characters and you just knew from her posture,
- 23:53her body language, from which hand she was using that it's a
- 23:58different person. It's not sign Young the the main
- 24:01lead at this juncture. And then all I can say is, well,
- 24:07an entire, like crises he goes through in the show.
- 24:11And I appreciate. I appreciate him.
- 24:14Like, I just think he's one of the best actors of his
- 24:16generation. I love him.
- 24:19Yeah, I completely agree. Yeah, I can see that.
- 24:21Yeah, absolutely. I actually thought it was unique
- 24:24for, well, not even unique. One of the other draws from me
- 24:28for starting this drama was actually the poster for the
- 24:31release. The poster they released for
- 24:33this? Let's talk.
- 24:34About it. It was Kim Terry and her kind of
- 24:37dual characters that she's kind of presenting in this drama and
- 24:40like you said amazing performance.
- 24:43But in the poster are still image alone.
- 24:47You're able to see the way she's able to clearly show the
- 24:52difference like her as this young girl struggling to survive
- 24:56and, you know, her day-to-day life, and then this girl
- 24:59possessed in one still image. And so if you see that in just
- 25:03that poster, I was like, my goodness, I can only imagine how
- 25:07her performance is gonna be in this drama.
- 25:09So I was super, super impressed by her performance.
- 25:13I completely agree with you. Hands down she and there were
- 25:18even points where like the the characters themselves they would
- 25:21have problems or trouble distinguishing between who she
- 25:25was in the moment and I was like, I'm with you.
- 25:27I don't know who she is either and so again just just so stand
- 25:31out and I love that they even used her performance and how
- 25:35amazing it was for the characters themselves to call
- 25:38attention to it in a way. And so I thought that was really
- 25:41unique and cool and like I said, junk say amazing.
- 25:43And I weirdly, I associate him a lot with comedic performances.
- 25:48So yeah, I don't know why I think those are the performance.
- 25:52I remember most of his or that maybe I enjoyed the most, I
- 25:55don't know. But so seeing him in this role.
- 25:59I was so serious, so serious, so and like and quieter than I'm
- 26:05used to. I felt he was.
- 26:06He was so much quieter than I'm used to and I and subtle.
- 26:10There was something very subtle about his performance and I was
- 26:12super impressed by it. I was like, Oh my goodness, Oh
- 26:16my goodness. I think I needed to see him like
- 26:18this to kind of like remind me of the kind of actor that he
- 26:22actually is and his range. Not that I'd forgotten
- 26:25necessarily, but I just, it wasn't a nice refresher to be
- 26:28like, Oh yeah, this is what he does on screen.
- 26:31This is it, He has range. And so I really.
- 26:33Also, this might be just me, but like, he was very attractive.
- 26:38He was so good. Yeah, I'm not used to calling a
- 26:41protector, to be honest. But yes, I completely agree with
- 26:45you. And that's why I said something
- 26:46very like muted and and subtle about him.
- 26:49And it it kind of, it was very sexy.
- 26:52I have to say. I have to.
- 26:53Say, I know it was the black turtleneck.
- 26:56Yeah, I think I have a thing for professors.
- 26:59So I think I also was a little bit.
- 27:03So the professor, the folklore professor with the turtleneck
- 27:06and the little blazer jacket and you know, it.
- 27:08Yeah, it was nice. He was, he was actually, you
- 27:11know, showing up today. I know.
- 27:15Like every time he took out the blazer and he was just there in
- 27:17his turtleneck, I was like, hold on, hold on, the turtle.
- 27:21We have the turtleneck of the blazer off.
- 27:24Yes, I agree. I'm not one to usually call him
- 27:27out for being sexy on screen, but I had to give it to.
- 27:32Had to give it to. I was simply for Autumn stay
- 27:35versus Hong Kong. I I think he's so adorable.
- 27:40Like I loved him and mind you the two performances that I've
- 27:44seen other things. But the two, yeah, the two
- 27:48performance that I really paid attention to him and and we
- 27:51class hero and this he's not playing adorable at all.
- 27:55So that's what's so funny to me. I think he's adorable and yet he
- 27:59does not come off on screen at all as adorable.
- 28:02And I don't know where I'm getting that from, but I just
- 28:04love his face on screen and I love his performances.
- 28:08I think I feel like he did amazing in this drama.
- 28:11Yeah, he did so well. And I mean, I don't know if he
- 28:15beat his weak class hero performance, but I definitely
- 28:18think he's amazing. I think he's an amazing.
- 28:20I will say that had it been to other weaker actors in Kim
- 28:25Teddy's position in Orcheng Say's position, Hong Kong shine.
- 28:29Yes, I completely agree, completely agree.
- 28:33You had Kim Tater, you were growing up against junk, say,
- 28:35yeah, I mean, you were gonna fall in the back.
- 28:39You were gonna fall to the back a little bit, but he did hold
- 28:43his own. He did.
- 28:44He really did. Going back to Kim, Teri and
- 28:47Otung say, did I make up that they had chemistry?
- 28:50I OK, I I I didn't even really put like thoughts to this.
- 28:56But now that I like went back over it.
- 28:59Yes, yes, yes, I think I was. Like sensing something and I was
- 29:05like, am I just? Not getting enough sleep lately
- 29:10or? Are they?
- 29:11There's something between them? I don't know what it was that.
- 29:15Maybe it was because you know what I think it is?
- 29:17I think it's because I was viewing him in this very kind of
- 29:20like sexy professor turtle deck role.
- 29:23So I think I always was trying to push him in this kind of
- 29:25romantic space or spear what it it wasn't supposed to be and so
- 29:31I completely. Agree.
- 29:32He was supposed to be like, 10 years older than Yes, Yes, he
- 29:35was. Definitely.
- 29:36I mean, wasn't even everyone. He was.
- 29:38He was younger than her father, obviously.
- 29:41Yeah, exactly. But he was.
- 29:42Like, he's in a manageable enough, Yeah, in a good age
- 29:46range, Yeah. Like technically in the age
- 29:48range. Maybe she was like maybe like
- 29:50mid 20s or late 20s. Mid 20s, yeah.
- 29:54And he would probably be mid 30s pushing maybe.
- 29:57Pushing 40, 40, Pushing 40, Yeah.
- 29:59Pushing. Man, I don't know.
- 30:01So I was like, I can't tell. I can't tell because at some
- 30:05point when she visited him and like at the school that one time
- 30:09I was like, she's giving off, could be one of his students.
- 30:11So I was, I was taken aback. So I don't know.
- 30:14I don't, I don't know. But then at the end, the final
- 30:17scene, I was like, I can see it though, I can see.
- 30:20It Uh, huh. Uh, huh.
- 30:21That's the thing. Sorry.
- 30:29You want to come in? All right, we're on the other
- 30:31side of spoilers. So, Lola, where do you want to
- 30:34start first? I think you had some qualms with
- 30:37the middle bit of the show, yes. But maybe we should start from
- 30:42the beginning so that we can separate like what?
- 30:46It's OK. OK.
- 30:50So you. Get I feel like I think I just
- 30:53got confused because there were so many different parts of lore
- 30:58that we were exploring with the other ghost stories.
- 31:01Like we found out about juvenile ghosts and then we find out
- 31:04about Jung songs ghosts. We found out about the hungry
- 31:10ones. Hungry.
- 31:11Ghosts we find out about, which is also AKA the the begging
- 31:16ghost. We find out about the shamanic
- 31:19rituals which Oh my God, what are those ghosts?
- 31:23Wandering Ghosts. The wandering had to do with
- 31:26that one cause the lady, that old lady freaking brought the
- 31:29wrath of all these wandering ghosts to her entire village.
- 31:33Yeah, the entire village. Traumatized.
- 31:35Selfish I think. OK, so here's the thing.
- 31:38I like the themes behind the ghost stories, not the not
- 31:43necessarily them. Like going back and forth and
- 31:46figuring this out and oh, this rock over here was touched by
- 31:50whatever. And this tree over here
- 31:52represents this, all of these suicide ghosts and the children.
- 31:56And I'm like, it was too much, I think, for my little brain.
- 32:00To comprehend all of Korean folklore in the span of several
- 32:04episodes. So this crash course was maybe
- 32:07not for me, but I like that the ghosts and the people that they
- 32:13haunted and killed, a call came from like a very real place,
- 32:17right? It came from like that old lady,
- 32:19for instance. Hers was out of the want.
- 32:22The need to see her daughter, her dead daughter again, who
- 32:25committed suicide. So yeah, it was actually really
- 32:27sad. Yeah, I felt really bad for her.
- 32:29I understood why she went her daughter back, Yeah.
- 32:32Exactly. You feel terrible for her.
- 32:34And what was cool was you had that scene of what's his face
- 32:40going to see, going to check on all of the old people in the
- 32:43town and hissong sees the ghost there.
- 32:47And he's like, you know, whatever, Elder, what does she
- 32:50mean? Like don't move.
- 32:52And she's like, I see her and then you're like, Oh my God.
- 32:56She could see the goods. And then you're like, Oh my God,
- 33:00it's her daughter. And then what she's seeing is
- 33:03wildly different than what Hissang is seeing.
- 33:06She's seeing. A whole, you know, not spooky
- 33:11daughter smiling and sitting in front of her at the tenor table.
- 33:14And I'm like that's very touching but but exactly.
- 33:21But but that daughter is dead and gone and she does not look
- 33:27like that. Really.
- 33:29She's not looking like she was in life.
- 33:32So things like that were very emotional.
- 33:36But then seeing like how how she summoned all of the ghosts and
- 33:40turned north to South or something using those waypoints.
- 33:44I was like, that's a lot like she was like cutting herself and
- 33:47putting blood on the pole and like the blood, yes.
- 33:50I was like, oh. Oh oh she is messing with some
- 33:53dark sided stuff to do that and he had to come undo it.
- 33:57Hey song had to come and undo all of that.
- 33:59So he had to cut himself and then do it the other way it.
- 34:02Was just like then she assaulted him like she she hit him, bashed
- 34:06him in the head, Yeah, head, yeah.
- 34:08I was like she is. Somebody get this lady out of
- 34:11here like she is not doing well. Not doing well.
- 34:15So This is why I said earlier that it was very selfish of her.
- 34:20Because not only is it out of grief that she's doing this, but
- 34:24it's out of selfishness because she would rather damn the whole
- 34:27town and see her daughter like everyone she ever knew, Like she
- 34:33grew up in that town. That the how like was there her
- 34:36whole life and thought, I don't care about my friends here, I
- 34:41care about the daughter that's already gone.
- 34:44More than the living people, the people who are here with me.
- 34:47Exactly. Exactly.
- 34:48So she was very selfish. And that's the thing about a lot
- 34:52of these ghost stories, the ones where the ghosts were praying on
- 34:56the living people, was that they all had some kind of weakness,
- 35:00some sort of real thing that they were dealing with in their
- 35:02lives. And the ghosts would manipulate
- 35:05it and weasel their way in and kill them over different things.
- 35:11Yep. So, I don't know, Maybe it was
- 35:12also the fact that it was too much suicide.
- 35:16That's what I was going to touch.
- 35:17That's OK. Really.
- 35:19What? I was OK.
- 35:19You take over. You take over.
- 35:21No. I was just going to say one of
- 35:23my big qualms with the middle of the drama was that it was just
- 35:27repetition at the very beginning, The early opening
- 35:31episodes when we get kind of introduced to the ghost, the,
- 35:36you know, the wild haired ghost, we see that the way that she
- 35:42possesses, she actually possesses people and then forces
- 35:46them to kill themselves and that's how she gets her revenge
- 35:51or whatever. And I I was like, traumatized by
- 35:55that. I was like, that is horrifying.
- 35:56And the thing of the people who get possessed by her are kind of
- 35:59like, almost, you know, aware of the fact that they're being
- 36:02possessed and in the process of killing themselves.
- 36:05So, so, so sad and scary. And so I was like, this is
- 36:09horrible. And this was in the beginning of
- 36:11the drama And then after seeing that already one once, you know
- 36:16seeing that multiple other times throughout this drama, I was
- 36:20like, OK, at some point we gotta let we gotta move on.
- 36:24We gotta move on. I was, I was getting really
- 36:27tired of seeing this repetition of the the killings of the
- 36:30suicidal possession killings. I thought that heavy for way too
- 36:34long. Very heavy for it to be go on
- 36:36that many different people like she kills so many people like
- 36:40that And I'm. Like many people, but but while
- 36:43also we're watching the other ghost story.
- 36:46So that's Yes, yes. I didn't like that was.
- 36:49Almost suicides, double suicide like too much, too much, too
- 36:54much and it was on repeat. So by by a certain point I
- 36:57wasn't as fearful of it. I was not scared of it.
- 37:00I was just annoyed. At a certain point, I was like,
- 37:02okay, another, another ghost taking over somebody body and
- 37:08killing and killing them. OK, here's another one.
- 37:10Here's another one. And to me, that was the chunk of
- 37:13the middle that I believe really, I don't like you say it
- 37:17wasn't draggy because all of those kind of, you know, ghosts
- 37:20of the day, those things, you know, they move and you want to
- 37:23see the ending of that and the resolution of those, but
- 37:26connected to this greater story, which is finding out who is the
- 37:30ghost that has actually possessed our main character.
- 37:34That's what I was really wanting.
- 37:37I think a little bit more of or more of the focus of throughout
- 37:40that middle of the drama, 'cause I feel like the beginning.
- 37:42We started that search, that journey of like, who is this
- 37:45ghost that has attached herself to our our, our main character.
- 37:49And then we get the the reveal at the very, very end.
- 37:53So that was the the kind of combination of like, OK, that
- 37:57was the story that I really wanted to know, but I only got
- 37:59that in the middle, I mean in the beginning really.
- 38:01And then at the end and the middle was a whole bunch of
- 38:04other things that kind of started to feel repetitive.
- 38:07So I yeah, I had a lot of trouble with that.
- 38:10I did. And then I think I got confused
- 38:15with who the ghost. I know who the ghost is.
- 38:18Like who created the ghost? Was it the grandmother?
- 38:22AM I? Yeah.
- 38:23So yes, you're right. The grandmother created the
- 38:27ghost, but it was like her family created.
- 38:31It was her and her husband created the ghost because they
- 38:35were falling on hard times and so they needed, they wanted to
- 38:40keep the money, their wealth. So it was greed.
- 38:43It was greed and like you said, it was what they believed they
- 38:47needed so that they can continue to keep their growing their
- 38:50wealth and that. Was so that was but then it
- 38:56would it would curse their family right?
- 38:58Like they knew going into it the shaman was like this is going to
- 39:01curse your family for generations.
- 39:02Like you can't get out from underneath this curse.
- 39:05And they were like. Yeah, we're still going to do
- 39:08it. Oh well, we're still going to do
- 39:10it. And we want money more than
- 39:11anything. But it was the grandmother, like
- 39:14you said, who really was the the driving force behind it.
- 39:17Because even when like her, her husband was trying to pull out
- 39:21of it and he was like, I can't do this anymore than her son.
- 39:26I can't, I can't do this anymore.
- 39:27She did not care. She was like, I don't care.
- 39:30You better keep this ghost in this family so help you.
- 39:33So yes, she was definitely the the real villain in this story,
- 39:38if you think. About it and it possessed the
- 39:39ghost possessed everyone but her am I right?
- 39:42Everybody but her. It possessed the I think it was
- 39:44following like the men of the in the family like it was on.
- 39:47I think it was her husband 1st and then it was her son and I
- 39:51think it was supposed to eventually be her grandson and
- 39:55his mother. Hey song and so it was his
- 39:58mother who ends up dying. Remember when she tries to like
- 40:01steal the ghost and everything and and goes on the run with her
- 40:05son? That was her trying to prevent
- 40:08that from happening. And so she did, though, because
- 40:11his song was spared. And then the grandmother held it
- 40:13against him that he didn't get possessed and die for the fam.
- 40:17Exactly. So just the grandmother was the
- 40:21evil, the most, the most selfish of them all.
- 40:24There was no redeeming qualities about her, even to the very end.
- 40:27And I I mean, I almost, I was going to say I was like, OK, She
- 40:30felt. I was like, oh wait, did she
- 40:32feel too like one note, you know, of a of a character.
- 40:36She knows her building self all the way through.
- 40:39But I did kind of like that at the very end there.
- 40:43She did have this moment where she kind of gives them the final
- 40:46clue of like, how. She gives them the real gras.
- 40:50Yes, Yes, exactly. She does.
- 40:52I was like fingers even though. Yeah, the finger, It's just the
- 40:55finger. It was the finger on our side.
- 40:58So all she needed to do the whole time was chop off her
- 41:01finger and give it to her grandson so that he could just
- 41:06light it on fire. Oh yeah, that was it was so
- 41:10simple. I guess.
- 41:11So simple. So that's what's funny too.
- 41:13But I think what was so like, to me, the best part of this drama,
- 41:18besides the performances, was the back story of the ghost of
- 41:22like how she actually became I. It was so listen to it, listen
- 41:26to it. So it was so quick.
- 41:28It happened. Like I said, they revealed it
- 41:29right at the very end. But it's after we get the twist,
- 41:33the reveal that in the beginning of the drama, then they start to
- 41:37investigate who this ghost is that has attached itself to our
- 41:42sung young character. We are believing we're following
- 41:46this little girl from back in the 1950s, I believe 1958, this
- 41:50little girl and his family, and we think she's the ghost.
- 41:53And we're like, OK, she has every right to be the ghost,
- 41:56'cause she gets rudely sacrificed and a ritual, A sham,
- 41:59you know, shaman ritual. And so obviously she's this
- 42:04ghost who has, you know, this possessed sonyoung.
- 42:08However, at some point we get A twist where it's not actually
- 42:11this little girl the entire time that we thought it was.
- 42:14It's actually her sister and her sister and it's something like
- 42:18Second Borns and and her sisters.
- 42:21It was this whole thing about second borns born sacrificial
- 42:24and she ended up lying about being the the second born in a
- 42:29way by sending her sister to this ritual.
- 42:32And really she was supposed to be the one to go to this ritual
- 42:35and the whole reason they were doing this ritual was for money.
- 42:39They were from a very poor fisherman kind of family
- 42:41background. And she was, you know, because
- 42:45she was poor And she was, I remember was she in school I
- 42:48believe and she had a crush on her teacher, her art teacher.
- 42:50She was really good at art, but she she felt like she didn't
- 42:54have and she didn't even have enough money to buy the art
- 42:56supply. So we just get this back story
- 42:58of this really sad poor girl who ends up being doing something
- 43:04really selfish, which is because she wanted money, she wanted her
- 43:08family to have money. She sends her sister off to be
- 43:11sacrificed in this ritual and the minute she realizes that
- 43:14this is what she has done, she tries to pull out of it.
- 43:18She tries to return the money and and say hey, no.
- 43:21It's not even that she felt bad about her sister dying.
- 43:23It was like the whole family, family, everybody started dying.
- 43:27Her mother committed suicide. Yeah, everybody started dying.
- 43:30I mean, it was so traumatic for her.
- 43:32So she's like, oh, I got to undo this whole thing, take the money
- 43:35back. But what ends up happening is
- 43:37she gets caught by the shaman and it turns into she gets her
- 43:41sister gets killed anyway, but so does she.
- 43:44And her seeing her sister die, her family die, All of this in
- 43:49the way that she dies, it turns her into this vengeful spirit
- 43:53which is what they needed in the 1st place.
- 43:55They the whole. It was like almost like a trick
- 43:58from the shaman perspective of like we don't really need your,
- 44:01you know, little kind of your little sister who's just like
- 44:03why did he die? You know, going into this, this,
- 44:06this ritual getting sacrifice, we need someone to have this
- 44:09vengeful spirit about them. And she and all that she ended
- 44:12up doing, I was the one who actually turned into the
- 44:15vengeful spirit. And so watching that whole story
- 44:19play out to me was so interesting.
- 44:21I mean, I was so intrigued by it.
- 44:24I was horrified by it. But I also really felt for her,
- 44:27because it wasn't that she was evil by nature, obviously, but
- 44:33it did show her as kind of immature and selfish and silly
- 44:38and dumb in a way that she thought very naive, not very
- 44:41naive. And so I just, I like that we
- 44:44got to see that character. But then we also get to see her
- 44:48when she is the ghost that's possessing son young.
- 44:53And we get to see this immaturity, this youthfulness,
- 44:55this kind of like girl who just wants to be liked by a guy.
- 44:59You know, when she has an interracial action with Hongsei
- 45:02and he notices that it's not a little girl.
- 45:05She she's, she's older than a little girl.
- 45:07You know, he's like this isn't a little girl.
- 45:08She's giving, you know, teenager vibes.
- 45:10And so I really loved all of that reveal.
- 45:13And to me that came too late in a way.
- 45:16I feel like I wanted to see a little bit more of her story
- 45:21fleshed out, and not necessarily that they didn't show
- 45:24everything, but taking its time to reveal that a little bit
- 45:27more. And that would have taken away
- 45:29from all of that repetitive killing of the ghost and the
- 45:32ghost of the day. I think that would have been
- 45:34nice if we would have pulled that in more to the middle of
- 45:37the drama instead of just holding me off to the very, very
- 45:40end. Yeah, there was a big emphasis
- 45:43on finding out who the ghost was and knowing her name.
- 45:46Oh yes, Which felt very familiar to me because that's something
- 45:50that's part of like usual, like possession movies and stuff,
- 45:55especially with, I think it's in Catholicism, which I'm not a
- 45:58Catholic, so I feel bad in trying to explain this.
- 46:01But they need the name of the, the demon to like, cast it out,
- 46:05to be able to cast it out. I mean, this is terrifying.
- 46:08Whatever. It is terrifying.
- 46:10It's terrifying. So I was like, oh, OK, yeah, I
- 46:14get this. They need to find out her name
- 46:16in order to, like, cast her out, Get rid of her.
- 46:22I don't think that I necessarily ever sympathized with the ghost.
- 46:27Oh, I think her name is Hyung Yi.
- 46:29Hyung Yi? Yup.
- 46:31But. I thought she was really
- 46:34interesting. Yes, yes, I really.
- 46:38It's a weird thing. Yes.
- 46:41Where you're like, I want to know more about this ghost, like
- 46:43let me sit down and have a conversation because she is
- 46:47giving. I completely agree.
- 46:49I think that was like, to me, a highlight of this drama was to
- 46:53be this ending, like this reveal of the actual ghost and who she
- 46:56was. And even like this, I mean,
- 47:00there's a trickster element to the ghost.
- 47:01Obviously, a lot of the things that she does is very tricky and
- 47:05and she's doing things on purpose so that she can get her
- 47:07way. And I I love that.
- 47:10I still love that. Even like you said, there's
- 47:12nothing that you can say you really liked about her as far as
- 47:14like, Oh yeah, I completely sympathize.
- 47:16I understand why she's killing so many people, you know, never
- 47:20to like, can I say that? But I did feel like she was
- 47:23interesting. I did want to know more about
- 47:25her, like even when she possessed Sun Young and she
- 47:29pretends to be her to her own mother, son, Young's mother.
- 47:33And it was her wanting that was cool.
- 47:36And it was her wanting a mother, figuring, like wanting to be a
- 47:38daughter again, like at. The end of the day, Kelly, like,
- 47:42wanted. Yeah, she was selfish.
- 47:45She was. But I don't think she was
- 47:46necessarily evil. Exactly.
- 47:50Exactly she. She had no redeeming qualities,
- 47:53just like the grandmother. She was not very redeemable,
- 47:55but. She wasn't this heartless part.
- 48:00Like she wasn't heartless. You could tell that she wanted
- 48:02things. And really, like, her goal in
- 48:05possessing all of these people was to stick around and live a
- 48:08life. That was it.
- 48:10That was it. She died too.
- 48:11Love. Yeah, She's like I.
- 48:13Died too soon. Yeah.
- 48:15And she just thought, oh, if I, if I live such a terrible life,
- 48:20I'm going to get one that I want to live for and I'm going to
- 48:23steal it from other people. And that's all she was doing.
- 48:26That's literally what she was doing the entire time.
- 48:29And I and I don't. It's like I said I there's
- 48:31something good about that. I wanted her to go by the end of
- 48:33the drama. Trust me, I want.
- 48:34Her. You're like, oh, wait, she has
- 48:36to go get rid of her insecurity. Yes, bring insecurity, please.
- 48:41But I I did feel something at some point.
- 48:44I think what really got me, I think that my one of the things
- 48:47that really stood out to me the most was when our detective, he
- 48:53recognizes her, you know, at the carnival, like running around,
- 48:57she's like wanting to play and take, you know, win games.
- 49:00And it was just and like and she was kind of flirting with him
- 49:03and you know, she's like she wanted to flirt with him and all
- 49:05of that. And I was just, I was getting, I
- 49:07was like, I I was like, oh, she just wants to be, you know, a a
- 49:11teenage. Girl, she's very extroverted.
- 49:14She's got nothing to lose. So every time she has
- 49:16interactions with other people, she's not.
- 49:19It's not that she's not reading. The non verbal cues in the room,
- 49:23it's that she's blowing past them and blowing past all of the
- 49:26social stop signs and throwing wine on people and calling
- 49:30people out for their bullshit and aggressively flirting with
- 49:34you Like yes, you're like, oh this is a like it's an extrovert
- 49:39maybe, but maybe a step beyond that, like it's just a wild
- 49:43person. Yes, she was a wild, I mean,
- 49:45which makes sense. I mean, to think that she's been
- 49:48living a living through these people and and living through
- 49:53these people, she's been terrorizing others and killing
- 49:57others, you know, it's like, right, You're you're dealing
- 49:59with a mad. Woman, they said that the reason
- 50:03why she? Gained so much power over these
- 50:05people, as well as that she's giving them what they want.
- 50:07And so she's like killing off people they don't like and
- 50:10giving them money. Give them power, prestige,
- 50:13whatever they desire. She's helping them get it.
- 50:16But at the same time, when she's just there at the carnival or
- 50:19you know, she's, she derives joy from the most tainest things as
- 50:24well. So it's like, it's a heart.
- 50:26It's a weird contrast to see her, like you said, you know,
- 50:28she's the one that's like possessing people and causing
- 50:31them to jump off of buildings, but then at the same time see
- 50:33her running and playing games at a carnival and winning a teddy
- 50:37bear. You're like, so cute.
- 50:41The ghost just having a theme park day.
- 50:43Yeah, it was weird. Yeah, it was a weird thing.
- 50:46But I liked that. I had that feeling of like,
- 50:49what? This is a the evil ghost.
- 50:51Like, what are you, why am I like, you know, enjoying that
- 50:54she's getting a little bit of time to like live out her little
- 50:58vicariously through this, you know, this person's body that
- 51:00she's possessing. Why am I OK with that?
- 51:02She's never been chosen, right. I think that was part of her
- 51:06back story was that she was always this second and I think
- 51:11that's why. And the one time that she's
- 51:12chosen is. To die.
- 51:16To die, to die. And I'm going to be honest, I
- 51:19I'm not going to say I relate it to her.
- 51:21But I did feel some kind of way because as a as a middle child,
- 51:26as a second born child, it ran deep.
- 51:32It ran deep. I felt her.
- 51:34I was like, you know what, send your little sister off to.
- 51:38Go ahead. I'm just kidding.
- 51:40I would never do that to my little sister.
- 51:42But no, I do. I I felt there was this, like I
- 51:45said, this second rightness that you felt from her.
- 51:48I mean, besides her entire family being just kind of like
- 51:51from this poor village being poverty stricken.
- 51:54But still she was, she was talented, she was an artist.
- 51:57She could draw, you know, she she had these other qualities
- 52:00like, OK, you know, if she could just get the chance to have
- 52:04those things that others have, she could be a better person
- 52:07maybe, you know? Yeah, but you're right, the one
- 52:10time she gets chosen, it's to die.
- 52:13So why wouldn't she be a vengeful ghost sizing?
- 52:17I I mean, I I hate to say I get it, but, like, that's why she's
- 52:21out here. Like causing so much harm out of
- 52:24spite and bitterness? Exactly.
- 52:26And then also, she gets what she wants, right?
- 52:28She wants to live vicariously through these people and just
- 52:31take over. And get what you couldn't have.
- 52:35So I've. Now that you brought that up, I
- 52:37let's talk about this part because I think this was
- 52:39something that I highlighted when I talked about this drama
- 52:43that bothered me a little bit. This notion that, yes, if you
- 52:49allow this ghost to possess you or your family, you get the
- 52:53opportunity to get what you want, right?
- 52:55And the main one is that this family wants wealth.
- 52:59So they allow her to possess their family and curse their
- 53:02family so that they can always have wealth.
- 53:05My problem was that they revealed this.
- 53:09It's the same with our son young character and her father.
- 53:13And why they allowed the ghost to possess them at some point
- 53:17because they have a disease that's causing them to go blind
- 53:22slowly. So for son Young's father, who
- 53:26is the first person who I mean out of before her is possessed
- 53:30by this ghost and killed by him. There we find out throughout the
- 53:34drama that he actually at some point allows her to possess him
- 53:38and to stay with him on purpose because he finds out that he's
- 53:42going blind and she promised him, hey, I'll let you, you know
- 53:46not go blind if you keep me around.
- 53:48So then and it's a hereditary disease.
- 53:50We find out because son Young also has this and discovers
- 53:54this. So when the ghost is possessing
- 53:55her, she finds this out that her father was allowing the ghost to
- 53:59jump went to her basically for the same reason.
- 54:02So she had the opportunity to continue to see and not go
- 54:06blind. And I did not like that at all.
- 54:10And I didn't like it really. I hated it because it to me it
- 54:15it cheapened how they it to me it compared the grandmother and
- 54:21her family being super evil and villainous and wanting money,
- 54:25money, money and wealth, wealth, wealth to someone who's actually
- 54:27really scared about going blind. Like that's two separate things
- 54:31for me. Like the reason?
- 54:33Well, I think that's the evilness of it.
- 54:35And and I hated that. I was like, I don't like that
- 54:38they made our son, young character and her father turn
- 54:42into people that decide to keep this ghost in their life for the
- 54:47little period that they do because they don't wanna go
- 54:49blind like that. That temptation of not wanting
- 54:52to go blind, and I just feel like that was not in the same
- 54:56caliber of someone who's doing it because it.
- 54:59Wasn't greed. It's a different.
- 55:01It's not greed. It's not greed.
- 55:02It's like, I'm really scared. I don't wanna go blind.
- 55:05So you're telling me that? OK, you won't go blind if you
- 55:08can stay here. Maybe.
- 55:10Like, I can't be mad at her. Really.
- 55:11I can't be mad at her father too much.
- 55:13But this evil grandmother who just wants to accumulate all the
- 55:16money in the world, that's not the same thing.
- 55:18It's not the same thing. Like, I didn't like that they
- 55:21compared those two in a way I I don't know.
- 55:24I didn't like the blind element. I think it's.
- 55:26A part of the psychological obstacles that these characters
- 55:29have to overcome, right? That it's a lot about.
- 55:36Confronting your demons, inner demons.
- 55:38And I don't mean demons literally because we got to
- 55:43differentiate. But you know, confronting your
- 55:46inner demons and the things that make you afraid and coming to
- 55:52terms with them. And I completely agree with
- 55:55that. And I but I feel like they what
- 55:59I think they wanted to what they should have done and I think
- 56:01they were supposed to do or what they were doing.
- 56:03But it wasn't as I think clear was like with the son young
- 56:09character. When we first meet her, she's
- 56:12struggling to make ends meet with her mom.
- 56:14She's like going kind of through the motions in her life and
- 56:18there's something very pitiful about her character and that she
- 56:21just feels like down on down on her look and it's like what's
- 56:24the point in a way? And I think they're throughout
- 56:27the drama, we start to see her. I not the way, like not want to
- 56:32not live anymore. But remember when she like,
- 56:34switches places and she gets in the shadow and she's like
- 56:38fighting to like come out of that like it.
- 56:41To me that was supposed to highlight this this kind of what
- 56:43her she really was afraid of what she really was fighting.
- 56:46It wasn't that she was like, oh, I'll go blind.
- 56:49I think it was about this need to not think that your life
- 56:55isn't worth it like you are. Your life is still worth it.
- 56:57Even if you're struggling to make ends meet and you're like
- 57:00still figuring out what you're going to do in your life and
- 57:02you're not the you know and when you go back to your your
- 57:05friends, you know the class reunion and everybody else is
- 57:08wealthy and off and doing well and you're not, that doesn't
- 57:11mean you're less of a person. So I felt like she had a lot of
- 57:14other things that she was dealing with that the ghost
- 57:17could have exploited and it not her going.
- 57:20You see what I mean? I guess that's what it is.
- 57:22I totally get it. And that you're right, that when
- 57:25she was in that Shadow Place or whatever that was other
- 57:31dimension that the Ghost sent her to, while she had full
- 57:35possession of her body for those days and she was fighting
- 57:39against herself, she kind of had this realization that it wasn't
- 57:45so much that she like. Hat was going blind.
- 57:50It that wasn't even the case at all.
- 57:52That she and those flashback scenes and stuff, she was saying
- 57:56that she had never lived for herself.
- 57:59She had always been providing for other people on being on
- 58:03other people's timetable, surviving like you said.
- 58:07And in this fight that she's having with herself, which is
- 58:11really the ghost who's fighting with her, but the ghost has her
- 58:15face and whatever, so it's like she's fighting herself.
- 58:18She realizes that she's been the issue all along and that she
- 58:22brought the darkness on herself, like basically gave the ghost an
- 58:26opening to through which to torment her like with her own
- 58:31insecurities and her own weaknesses.
- 58:34And if she decides that those aren't weaknesses and that she
- 58:39is going to live differently and that she has a reason to live to
- 58:43change her life and you know, live for herself and all that
- 58:46shit, that. That's enough to gain control
- 58:50over the ghost. Exactly.
- 58:52And we get that at the very end, at the very end again.
- 58:56So I mean, I I, I don't know. I didn't think they needed the
- 59:01blind plot, basically, I don't think.
- 59:03The blind plot. Well, if you get some
- 59:04interesting scenes where she's trying to like, pass off that
- 59:06she's not blind, Yeah, that. I mean.
- 59:11So I guess it's more of a shock factor.
- 59:13That they wanted. I didn't need it.
- 59:15I didn't. And they they needed some
- 59:17contrived reason. For her dad.
- 59:19For her dad. Right.
- 59:20You're right. You're right.
- 59:22Ghost was what the Ghost was capable of and how it was
- 59:25terrorizing people for him to allow this ghost into his life
- 59:29and to his daughter's life. Because again, he touched on the
- 59:32fact that he passed this ghost out like it was a fair family
- 59:35heirloom. He was like, here's to you, my
- 59:37daughter, the possession of this ghost.
- 59:42Did they ever say that he did that by mistake or that was No,
- 59:46I think it was on purpose. It was a part of big plan.
- 59:50Because remember when they're in the village and she sees her
- 59:54daddy's ghost for like a very short period and he's
- 59:57apologizing to her and I think. That was the revelation was that
- 1:00:02we had to find out why he was apologizing to her and then it
- 1:00:06comes in through his back story of like how learning that it was
- 1:00:09hereditary and things like that. I think it was his plan that in
- 1:00:13case my daughter also experiences this, I want to pass
- 1:00:16this on to her because specifically his grant her, her
- 1:00:20paternal grandmother when she handed her the, you know, the
- 1:00:24little cursed object. She's like your father wanted
- 1:00:28you to have this, like it was legit.
- 1:00:30Like your father wanted you to have this.
- 1:00:32And I don't think that was the ghost.
- 1:00:33I think that was the grandmother really passing on what the the
- 1:00:37father wanted her to pass on. I don't know.
- 1:00:38It could have been the deal. I thought it was like he passed
- 1:00:41it on. So I I see what you're saying.
- 1:00:45I think it was him too, hearing you talk about it.
- 1:00:48What the hell is up with the mothers in this show?
- 1:00:51Every single mom, there was a problem.
- 1:00:53Yeah, OK. Her mom.
- 1:00:54There was a problem. One of my biggest issues in the
- 1:00:57beginning of this trauma was her mom, because.
- 1:01:00Yes, her father dies and she comes to comes to son Young and
- 1:01:05says hey your father's dead we need to go to his funeral and
- 1:01:08son Young's like my and. She's like, hold on, hold on.
- 1:01:10I thought he was already dead. My already dead father is dead.
- 1:01:15What do you mean? And then the entire time, she's
- 1:01:18not, she's not explaining this. She's not saying why she's lied
- 1:01:22to her daughter the entire time about her father being dead that
- 1:01:25she she could had a relationship with her father and she's like
- 1:01:27why wouldn't you let me know that you know none of that.
- 1:01:29And then when her when Sonya walks out of the the funeral,
- 1:01:33you know her where her her father's home with this cursed
- 1:01:35object and her mother sees her holding it and she like slaps it
- 1:01:39out of her hand. Even then she doesn't explain
- 1:01:43like she just like slaps over her head.
- 1:01:44It's like don't touch anything in here.
- 1:01:48Half the shit that happens to her daughter is her.
- 1:01:51Thank you for me because. She never explained she had.
- 1:01:55She knew what was happening. The entire time her own mother
- 1:02:00died because of this. Like, why wouldn't you tell your
- 1:02:03daughter her grandmother died because of this, like I.
- 1:02:06Just thought I I just, I thought that it was so weak of her to be
- 1:02:11this, like, shriveled up nervous wreck of a person that she
- 1:02:15couldn't. And she couldn't get get through
- 1:02:19her trauma enough to save her daughter's life.
- 1:02:23It made no sense, you know what I'm saying?
- 1:02:24It made no sense. Like.
- 1:02:25Pull it the fuck together. She's going to like and not
- 1:02:29forever. What the hell is that?
- 1:02:31I know, I don't understand that. Like you ran from your husband
- 1:02:36because of this and made him like killed him off to you and
- 1:02:40your daughter because of this. And then when it comes back into
- 1:02:44your life, you don't explain it to your daughter.
- 1:02:47That logically doesn't make sense.
- 1:02:49I mean, she's being tormented, tormented by this ghost, and
- 1:02:53you're not letting her in on this at all.
- 1:02:55She has to find everything out on her own, even when she, like,
- 1:02:57finds out that her mom lived in a town that she didn't even know
- 1:03:00she she lived in. The mom's like, are you are you
- 1:03:03there right now? Leave, leave.
- 1:03:05No explanation. Still, Still Just nothing.
- 1:03:08Nothing. So I was really annoyed with her
- 1:03:10mom. I completely agree.
- 1:03:11The mothers I. Hated.
- 1:03:12I hated were interesting. The only time that she redeemed
- 1:03:15herself was like at the end, when she immediately knew that
- 1:03:18wasn't her daughter. Yes, she knew.
- 1:03:19She was like, that's not like. I was like, OK, OK, now you now,
- 1:03:22you know. And even when she was like being
- 1:03:24a little bit brave to some extent, despite her kind of like
- 1:03:27she has like a anxiety disorder, right?
- 1:03:30Like again, something else she layered, they had on top of
- 1:03:33these characters. So she had anxiety disorder and
- 1:03:37she was like, you know, so everybody got multiple issues.
- 1:03:41It's like, OK, not only are we like, poor and struggling, I
- 1:03:45have an anxiety disorder. I I possess.
- 1:03:48I can't go. I can't keep my job.
- 1:03:50I possess my ghost like I cannot.
- 1:03:52It was too much. It was just too much.
- 1:03:55But yeah, I I I did. I did say, like, I like that in
- 1:03:58the end there she finally had a little burst of, like, I'm going
- 1:04:01to fight this, you know, Like, I'm not going to just allow
- 1:04:04myself to be taken down alongside my daughter because
- 1:04:07obviously she was going to let her daughter be taken down if
- 1:04:09she wasn't going to tell her what's going on.
- 1:04:12So yeah, at the very end she had a little bit, you know, off to
- 1:04:15her step, but it took her a while.
- 1:04:17And then Hissong's grandmother, who is a living terror, she is
- 1:04:21an actual demon herself. So there's that.
- 1:04:25Called it an actual and actual like ghostly bitch because she
- 1:04:32allowed it all to happen. It sanctioned it.
- 1:04:35I think she was actually pleased when one of the victims died.
- 1:04:39Was was sacrificed. Well, didn't they show her
- 1:04:41valley, like, giggling? Yeah.
- 1:04:43Like, yeah, absolutely. She was demonic.
- 1:04:46Demented. The exact.
- 1:04:47And actually, what's even worse? Her son.
- 1:04:51Hey, Song's father, I forget She literally let him die.
- 1:04:56Like like he was thirsty. Remember.
- 1:04:58Like something where he like, was dehydrated.
- 1:05:00He. Let him starve to death.
- 1:05:01She let her own son starve to death because she wanted this
- 1:05:06ghost to stay around. What she had the audacity to
- 1:05:10even tell? Like remember when they tricked
- 1:05:12her into revealing the name? And she even was like, so she
- 1:05:15thinks she's talking to the ghost and she's like, I made a
- 1:05:17promise to you so I'll never tell your name.
- 1:05:20I'll never say I made a promise. You made a promise to a ghost.
- 1:05:24Got your own children, grandchildren, grandson.
- 1:05:27A ghost. Like she was.
- 1:05:29Like, I've never saw her so, like grandmotherly or motherly,
- 1:05:33except for the moment. She's like begging this ghost.
- 1:05:36Like I was. I was.
- 1:05:38I was. Are you out of your mind?
- 1:05:40Out of your mind. She was she like, are you?
- 1:05:42Out of your mind. That's like when she was in the
- 1:05:44in the hospital room and like locked up and like the ghost
- 1:05:47comes to take care of her. I was like, go ahead, take care
- 1:05:50of her. Go ahead, take.
- 1:05:52Her like send her far away. I mean literally.
- 1:05:56Did she like jump out the window?
- 1:05:57She like. Like she.
- 1:05:59Jumped out the window. Yep, Yep, Yep.
- 1:06:02And then she uses the glass from the window as she's laying on
- 1:06:04the concrete to chop her own finger on.
- 1:06:07Yep, that was the sign. That was the sign signal to help
- 1:06:09to find the finger. Because it wasn't her finger.
- 1:06:13It was. Uh huh.
- 1:06:15Find the other. Yeah, the ghost.
- 1:06:16It was Hanyang's finger. Because when they find her body
- 1:06:18buried in the grandmother's home, remember she's missing a
- 1:06:22finger. The the dead ghost's body is
- 1:06:25missing a finger. And they're like, you got to
- 1:06:26find that finger. That's it.
- 1:06:28The finger. I don't know why that's funny to
- 1:06:32me, that figure, but I like no, because I did like the ending.
- 1:06:37Yeah, it was good. It was good.
- 1:06:39Her wailing as well. The screaming from the ghost,
- 1:06:42like as she's being forced to set her own finger on fire.
- 1:06:45Loved it. Loved it.
- 1:06:47So good. But I love.
- 1:06:48But I also. Love.
- 1:06:49It's so satisfying, the whole thing of like this.
- 1:06:51Her becoming, you know, defeating the Ghost while still
- 1:06:55being not in. Yeah, still being possessed like
- 1:06:59she was still in the Shadow Place, but she was able, like I
- 1:07:02don't. Even know what that was, I don't
- 1:07:03even know what that was. But she was able to reconcile
- 1:07:06that. I have the control of over all
- 1:07:09of this. I have the control to take this
- 1:07:11ghost down, to not be possessed by this ghost anymore.
- 1:07:14And I liked all of that. At the end I thought it was a
- 1:07:17great final scene. So not final final scene, but I
- 1:07:20final scene for the ghost. I actually like that.
- 1:07:24So I think I like just the the whole thing with the ghost.
- 1:07:26I like the the ending. I liked all of that.
- 1:07:30Yep. My gosh, Speaking of haunting of
- 1:07:35Hill House, which I'm sure a lot of people have watched that
- 1:07:37show. It's on Netflix.
- 1:07:39It's like very well known. But anyway, because I was re
- 1:07:43watching it earlier today, I had, they said this this
- 1:07:47sentence and I was like, oh, this is so great, they said, one
- 1:07:51of the characters said in the final episode.
- 1:07:53Of haunting of Hill House. They said ghosts are guilt,
- 1:07:56ghosts are secrets, ghosts are regrets and failings.
- 1:07:59But most times a ghost is a wish, A wish.
- 1:08:02There it is. There it is.
- 1:08:04And I was like, oh, that's actually really relevant.
- 1:08:07Yeah, to Revenant, Very. And I mean, it's exactly what
- 1:08:12Revenant was discussing. Yeah.
- 1:08:14The idea of like you holding on to that the hope A wish for
- 1:08:18something and you not having that.
- 1:08:20Are you allowing that not to or allowing that not having
- 1:08:23something to to kind of keep you?
- 1:08:27Well, yeah. That's sustaining.
- 1:08:31Yeah that is I'd like, I mean I I like what they addressed in In
- 1:08:34the Revenant. I like what they were were
- 1:08:37discussing. I like what they were really
- 1:08:38taking a look at. I appreciated it.
- 1:08:41I really did. I just feel like they they could
- 1:08:44have done that without the ghost of the week.
- 1:08:48I agree. Did you think that Hissong's
- 1:08:52little friend was a ghost? I immediately thought that was a
- 1:08:56ghost. I.
- 1:08:57Like the kid did I yeah, it was weird that he was hanging out
- 1:08:59with the kid. I was like, why is he hanging
- 1:09:01out with a high school student? I didn't understand that.
- 1:09:03So then I was like, oh, he's not real.
- 1:09:05He's a ghost. He's seeing a ghost.
- 1:09:07So I I didn't. I actually I ended up liking how
- 1:09:12they used his character in the in there.
- 1:09:15I didn't realize he was so he was going to be not so not evil,
- 1:09:21but like he ended up being that like a problem child and why he
- 1:09:25became this this ghost. But I thought it was unique that
- 1:09:27he stayed in his life and he kind of kept him by his side.
- 1:09:31I thought he would have kind of wanted to do away with him, but
- 1:09:34I think he felt guilt. Yeah, so that's why he kept him
- 1:09:37around. So I I I like the ghost stories
- 1:09:40and the visually, but like it has a whole like I I feel like
- 1:09:45it's detracted. You're just blinded by a lot of
- 1:09:49death and you don't want to necessarily become desensitized.
- 1:09:54And you you are by certain point for sure you are.
- 1:09:58People jumping out of the window means nothing.
- 1:10:00By the time you see you're like, oh, there goes there's a.
- 1:10:03Ghost and there he goes. And the same thing with Kimo and
- 1:10:07his character. I didn't think that they would
- 1:10:10kill him off. That's a very big actor for
- 1:10:14them. To Chris Brown, I will say this,
- 1:10:18I thought, I thought it was. I'm not gonna say I thought it
- 1:10:21was good that they killed him off.
- 1:10:22But I actually was like, OK, I appreciate it that they did it
- 1:10:26because I felt like it. It lit a fire under our cop,
- 1:10:30our, you know, his partner, because I feel like he was still
- 1:10:33so because. He was almost like a non yes to
- 1:10:36the almost close to the end until that happened, you know he
- 1:10:38was fighting against it. So help him you know.
- 1:10:41And I think that he needed a white a wake up call and that
- 1:10:44was the only thing that he could because he was there when he saw
- 1:10:47this happen. So I'm like that was the only
- 1:10:49way you can believe something that's horrible is taking place
- 1:10:53in your kind of day-to-day human world.
- 1:10:56You know he had to see it for himself.
- 1:10:58So I I didn't you know like it was huge that that killed him
- 1:11:01off. But I didn't mind it.
- 1:11:03I actually I thought it they did it.
- 1:11:05It was a good choice. I.
- 1:11:07Thought it was a good choice. Uh huh.
- 1:11:10I just realized that, I said. They Chris browned him.
- 1:11:12Do you? Do you know what I mean?
- 1:11:13Wait, they Chris browned him. What?
- 1:11:17Yeah, 'cause you said they killed him.
- 1:11:19Earlier I invoked Chris Brown. And it's because of the movie
- 1:11:24Stomp The Oh my I I barely remember I watched that movie
- 1:11:29once the the the maybe in the theater when it dropped and then
- 1:11:33like never have seen or thought of that movie since.
- 1:11:36Are you safe to stop that yours? I actually stop the young.
- 1:11:44Oh, I haven't thought about that in years.
- 1:11:48Because that movie, first of all, I really like that movie,
- 1:11:51The second of all. And that on ironically, I like,
- 1:11:54I like stomp the arts. So that movie is so famous.
- 1:11:59I remember people going, Oh my God, Chris Brown's.
- 1:12:02In the mind you, this was, I was in middle school.
- 1:12:04This was so many years ago before Chris Brown got
- 1:12:05cancelled. And we're like, I can't wait to
- 1:12:09go see Chris Brown in this movie.
- 1:12:11Chris Brown Canfield is like the 1st 10 minutes of the movie.
- 1:12:15Oh my goodness. I didn't know that.
- 1:12:17I I mean, I I I didn't see the movie, but I didn't know people
- 1:12:21were like so excited to see him in it and super disappointed.
- 1:12:25I mean, I saw the movie. I was a huge Chris Brown fan
- 1:12:28even when he first gave out. So.
- 1:12:30Because he was in all the marketing and he was, people
- 1:12:34were like, you're right, he was. That's so funny.
- 1:12:38A dancing movie. And Chris Brown's in it.
- 1:12:40People were like, he gets killed off in the beginning, he said.
- 1:12:45They Chris Brown, they did not Chris Brown.
- 1:12:47Him though, because he was in a big chunk of the drama.
- 1:12:50Come on, come on. Right he.
- 1:12:52Was he wasn't in he wasn't in the end game episodes he wasn't
- 1:12:57he got killed. He didn't get to see the end of
- 1:12:59this ghost which he had been chasing for a really long time.
- 1:13:03So you're right. That's it's kind of sad that he
- 1:13:05didn't get to see the end of this ghost.
- 1:13:09No, no. And going back to Sanyong's dad
- 1:13:14who was possessed, it looked like he was possessed when she
- 1:13:17was a child. Still when yes, yes.
- 1:13:22So Kim Teddy's character was still like A5, like 5 years old
- 1:13:25and the dad's already possessed and it's because.
- 1:13:28So you're saying he was possessed for like 20 years?
- 1:13:32That's that's terrifying. But he is.
- 1:13:36'Cause he only died recently. Yeah, right.
- 1:13:39And The thing is, I think there was.
- 1:13:42I guess that's why he hadn't gone blind, you know?
- 1:13:44He was like, I'm gonna keep her. I'm just gonna stop.
- 1:13:46I'm not going blind. That's why he was still able to
- 1:13:49see. But I Yeah, you're absolutely
- 1:13:51right. Because wasn't there something
- 1:13:52about this being the second born, like the he was a like,
- 1:13:57was he afraid of, like them her getting pregnant again?
- 1:14:00Or like, I think there was something that was, that's why
- 1:14:04his wife, yeah. They didn't.
- 1:14:05They didn't like that, right? Because about the other.
- 1:14:08Child that was coming, Yeah, that was obviously born.
- 1:14:13Yeah, that he's sibling and then the baby died.
- 1:14:17That's right. So they didn't go into detail
- 1:14:19about that, but I guess we were supposed to just chop that up to
- 1:14:23the second born thing again and him being afraid of that because
- 1:14:27is that when his wife? When did he kill his wife's
- 1:14:31mother? When did he was that?
- 1:14:35It was right after, like, she comes back from the hospital
- 1:14:38after losing. She's postpartum losing the
- 1:14:40baby. Yeah, losing the baby.
- 1:14:42And and she finds her mom at the well.
- 1:14:45The mom's like stay back, stay back, get get away.
- 1:14:48From him, terrifying. And she kills herself, and she
- 1:14:52was touched by the evil spirit. So yeah.
- 1:14:56And he he had been possessed, yeah.
- 1:14:58But it was part of part of, I guess, the ghost wanting to.
- 1:15:03Do things for him because he overheard them talking in the
- 1:15:07hospital after she lost the baby that oh, you got to get away
- 1:15:11from him. She was like advising her
- 1:15:12daughter to leave him. Yes.
- 1:15:13And so she was like, Oh no, to leave him, you got to get, you
- 1:15:16got to go. So the ghost was like, oh
- 1:15:17perfect. I can get more more power over
- 1:15:21him by killing his mother-in-law and and his wife leaving.
- 1:15:25So then all she had to do was stay with him and not having to
- 1:15:28worry about his wife. Yeah, she stayed with him for a
- 1:15:32long time. Yeah, she did.
- 1:15:34Yeah. The ghost was with the dad for
- 1:15:37at least 20 years. That's probably the longest.
- 1:15:40I mean, I think it makes and, but you know what?
- 1:15:42Actually that makes it. Besides the fact that you see
- 1:15:45again my other reason why I'm like him going blind, but then.
- 1:15:48Why the urgency? But then why the urgency in the
- 1:15:52very first episode where you see the dad, like, scrambling to get
- 1:15:54in the house? Because he's tried to get rid of
- 1:15:56her at one point. Remember?
- 1:15:57Like that. Think that was his phase of
- 1:15:59trying to get rid of her? Because it was about collecting
- 1:16:01those objects and he had gotten close to it.
- 1:16:03But then she killed him right at the very end, where he hadn't
- 1:16:06finished collecting the objects, so she was always.
- 1:16:09I see. So he was provoking her
- 1:16:11basically, yes, by trying to hear exactly.
- 1:16:12But he had her had her for a long time prior to that, though.
- 1:16:15Like, if you think about it, like, well, yeah, so but my
- 1:16:19thing is still the whole going blind thing.
- 1:16:23It's not necessary still, because I know just you're over
- 1:16:27me. And talking about the blindness,
- 1:16:29because the whole thing is like, it makes sense that he
- 1:16:33specifically wants to keep a ghost around who's from this
- 1:16:36specific period because he is a folklore professor himself, this
- 1:16:40is of an interest to him. So it's still to him.
- 1:16:42He has motivations to kind of be digging deep into this past,
- 1:16:46this, this case, and this history of this ghost.
- 1:16:49Like all of that is still intriguing to him enough to keep
- 1:16:52a ghost around, not him going blind.
- 1:16:54So even again, like towards the end, when he's trying to get rid
- 1:16:57of her. Why?
- 1:16:59I thought you needed her, 'cause you were going blind, you know?
- 1:17:01I don't know. I don't get it.
- 1:17:03I don't get that. I don't get it.
- 1:17:05What was his realization of? Yeah, you.
- 1:17:07I can't keep her around anymore. I need to get rid of her.
- 1:17:10What was it for him that trigger it?
- 1:17:12Uh huh. Because after 20 years, like
- 1:17:14what's another 20? Yeah.
- 1:17:15What triggered that? Did they show us?
- 1:17:17Was it? Yeah.
- 1:17:19Him not maybe having a relationship with his family?
- 1:17:22Maybe. I don't know.
- 1:17:25Weird. They didn't really go through
- 1:17:26that. They didn't.
- 1:17:27They didn't explain that. Yeah.
- 1:17:28Or maybe I missed it. I don't know.
- 1:17:30I could have missed it. Mm hmm.
- 1:17:33Well, I Do you have anything else on your?
- 1:17:36I think we hit everything on my nose.
- 1:17:38I think we hit more. We talked on my nose more than
- 1:17:41my nose, I think. Yeah, I think I'll say my least
- 1:17:47favorite ghost of the day story was the apartment building
- 1:17:53Ghost. Well, wasn't wasn't haunting the
- 1:17:55apartment building. It's just that everyone in the
- 1:17:57apartment building was getting fish, yes, that were possessed
- 1:18:01and. Then the fish, the fish were
- 1:18:04were killing off the owner, the new owners.
- 1:18:07It wasn't like students. I was like a like a what.
- 1:18:09It was like students, wasn't it? Like in this like apartment.
- 1:18:13So it was a loan shark that was targeting these poor college
- 1:18:16kids that were living in one of these like shitty ass dorms
- 1:18:20which he pausing for them to study.
- 1:18:24And he was like making them sign these slave contracts in order
- 1:18:28to give them money. And then he owned an aquarium
- 1:18:33business. And so every time he signed a
- 1:18:35new contract with one of these kids, he would give them a fish.
- 1:18:38But the first girl like one of the girls.
- 1:18:41Had this possessed photograph. That was crazy.
- 1:18:44Of the tree, that was the suicide ghosts.
- 1:18:47Yeah, the kids were hanging from.
- 1:18:49I mean, that was too much. The kid that was too much.
- 1:18:51That was terrifying. But they were like, Oh yeah, the
- 1:18:53ghosts of kids. They would hang these.
- 1:18:55They wouldn't. Oh, gosh.
- 1:18:56OK. OK, I'll get it.
- 1:18:57Afraid all over it. They would hang them.
- 1:18:59I'm getting scared. They would hang them in these in
- 1:19:02these tree. Containers on this tree and I
- 1:19:07was like, Oh my God, that is wild.
- 1:19:10And then? So this photograph was haunted.
- 1:19:13And then she, to get rid of any evidence that she had family,
- 1:19:17ripped up the family photograph with the tree in it and fed it
- 1:19:20to the fish. The fish got possessed.
- 1:19:22Then the fish were given out to the students.
- 1:19:25That's why I was like, getting confused.
- 1:19:27I was like, this is a lot and that's what you that's why I was
- 1:19:31like there was too much ghost of the day.
- 1:19:33There was, there was no. I mean, it was too much because
- 1:19:35that wasn't intense ghost story for it to be just smacked in the
- 1:19:40middle of this story that was already intense.
- 1:19:42We already had an intense ghost story to worry about.
- 1:19:45I didn't need it. Didn't need it.
- 1:19:47Like it didn't need it. Yeah.
- 1:19:48So that's why I'm saying, like, there was a lot of stuff that I
- 1:19:52just didn't, I didn't jive with. But I do appreciate this quote.
- 1:19:58Humans are more terrifying than ghosts.
- 1:20:00Yes. And that was, was that son
- 1:20:02young? Yes, 'cause she.
- 1:20:06I think it, no. I think it was his, his song
- 1:20:10maybe, 'cause I remember the the song, It's episode two.
- 1:20:14Yeah, I think it's up to two. And I think it was, I can't
- 1:20:16Remember Remember when he saw. I mean, yeah, when they were
- 1:20:19basically with the young boy Ghost and how his own family was
- 1:20:26like basically had killed like it was it was horrible and so
- 1:20:29when that. Was whole other story see with
- 1:20:32the child news and it was locked, the little girl and she
- 1:20:35was locked up. It was so, so sad.
- 1:20:37And so, like, that was a moment, I think, when they were like,
- 1:20:40this is more horrifying than a ghost.
- 1:20:43The little boy, I mean, her, her brother was trying to save his
- 1:20:46sister. Like he was a ghost trying to
- 1:20:48save his sister. Not, you know.
- 1:20:50He basically killed himself to put, to put, to put the a
- 1:20:53spotlight on his family so that they would save the little
- 1:20:56sister who was being literally kept in like a whole room and
- 1:21:02fed scraps and just really maltreated.
- 1:21:06And I think that was another was a child's case.
- 1:21:08Huge. It was a horrible case, and I
- 1:21:10think that was another element to this story of like at the end
- 1:21:16of the day, the only reason evil ghost can even exist is because
- 1:21:22of the evilness of humans. That's the only way that ghost
- 1:21:27came to be. And even the girl who herself
- 1:21:30becomes a ghost like she would have never been this vengeful
- 1:21:34ghost had they not wanted to. As as in the grandmother was not
- 1:21:40evil and wanted money and greed and and so she created eventual
- 1:21:45ghost like that would have never existed.
- 1:21:47So it did kind of circle back on purpose.
- 1:21:50It circled back around to like that is who that's that's the
- 1:21:53reason this even exists. It's because of evilness in
- 1:21:57humans. It's gross.
- 1:22:01It's foul. That is actually really cool
- 1:22:03that they. I mean it's not cool but I do
- 1:22:05like that that is a big element to like ghost, like ghost
- 1:22:08stories or like stories about demons.
- 1:22:10It's like this only comes to be once something causes this, you
- 1:22:16know like this ghost is not like just created out of thin air.
- 1:22:19This I like as in this evil ghost or like this demon isn't
- 1:22:22just kind of created out of thin air.
- 1:22:24There's usually some kind of horrible back story that kind of
- 1:22:28triggers the evil to continue. Yeah.
- 1:22:31And I think that's always interesting that when a story
- 1:22:35kind of analyzes that. So yeah.
- 1:22:38Yeah, yeah. So I forgot to ask you what You
- 1:22:43rated this show out of five Soldier bottles.
- 1:22:45So if you want to do that now, I'll give my I I think I I would
- 1:22:51have originally, I think gave it A4 like a like 4 Soldier bottles
- 1:23:01because just the performance is just so good and so strong and I
- 1:23:06love the beginning and the end so much.
- 1:23:08But I will say that it's just too much in the middle there.
- 1:23:13That just isn't exactly what I wanted it to be.
- 1:23:18So it's like borderline like 3 1/2 Soldier Bottles.
- 1:23:22Like, I'm going to be a little rough with it.
- 1:23:23I think. Again, I struggle with ratings,
- 1:23:26so I this is really kind of arbitrary.
- 1:23:30Maybe I give it five, so do bottles.
- 1:23:32No, I yeah, I think maybe 3 1/2 I.
- 1:23:36I feel you and I'm also going to give it a 3 1/2 Soldier bottles
- 1:23:40because it's it, you know, the child abuse case, the tree and
- 1:23:46the fish. Like all this stuff is sort of
- 1:23:48like there's more where that came from and.
- 1:23:53It's it's very convoluted and I don't know maybe if I was Korean
- 1:23:58from the homeland, I would, I would understand it better
- 1:24:00because that's my culture. I or I understand folklore, this
- 1:24:03folklore, but I but I don't. And I've watched a lot of stuff
- 1:24:09but this was very different. It was very targeted.
- 1:24:13And I'm not going to say it was a bad show.
- 1:24:16It's not a bad show. It just was not, yeah,
- 1:24:19completely agree. And.
- 1:24:22If you're trig, I mean this is really late to be saying this,
- 1:24:24but if you're triggered by suicide, child abuse, you know
- 1:24:29all these things don't watch. But if you can stomach it, I
- 1:24:35would recommend the show. It's it's a decent ghost story.
- 1:24:39Multiple ghost stories. There is a mystery that you get
- 1:24:42to follow and you at some point you have to see the the you have
- 1:24:46to see what how Yeah, you have to the reveal of the mystery.
- 1:24:49So I think that is enough to kind of say that it was is a
- 1:24:54good watch and then you'll get through it, you will see it to
- 1:24:57the end. But there are some points there
- 1:24:59that may take you out of it a little bit and feel a little
- 1:25:02slow. But yeah, it's worth it.
- 1:25:04It is, if you can stomach it. Thank you so much for coming on.
- 1:25:10So last minute, Lola, and being really flexible with your time.
- 1:25:14Where can people find. So I am on Instagram, Lolo pops

- 1:26:34It's like other people can actually listen to us.
- 1:26:36So I remember that, like, right at the end, they're like, gosh,
- 1:26:40did I say anything weird or wrong?
- 1:26:43Offensive. Let me did I?
- 1:26:46But no. Oh my God.
- 1:26:48No, no no. You're totally good and I can't
- 1:26:51wait to have you back. Lola I and and for me to maybe
- 1:26:54go on your own. I I do such a hard time
- 1:26:58gathering the courage to ask people to be on my podcast.
- 1:27:01But like also the scheduling is just like mayhem.
- 1:27:05So I'm always like I don't want to.
- 1:27:08You don't. You don't have to tell me how.
- 1:27:11Yes, the schedule podcast it is so worse.
- 1:27:14Yeah it's a scheduling it's it's like I don't, I don't want to
- 1:27:17like jump in when it's like a busy time for people.
- 1:27:19And then I'm like if you, I don't want you to feel pressure
- 1:27:21to say like say no if you need to.
- 1:27:23You know I'm always like, I I'm like it's like jump roping like
- 1:27:27double Dutch like I'm like always going to do it and then I
- 1:27:29like find some way to not jump in and like so yeah I got to do
- 1:27:33I got to do it. I got to do more I got to have
- 1:27:35more guests on. I would love.
- 1:27:37I would love to have you. The guest In the meantime, go
