- 0:00Speaker: He was the type of sibling, I guess, where I could go, you

- 0:07Speaker: he would just show up at my house and he'd be like, I just
- 0:10Speaker: wanted to come check on you.
- 0:11Speaker: And so all the time, I just feel like, you know, maybe I'm just
- 0:13Speaker: going to come home one day and then he'll, he'll just be here
- 0:16Speaker: to check on me.

- 0:47Speaker: With your host, co-founder of

- 0:49Speaker: Facebook page.
- 0:51Speaker: Law office worker by day.
- 0:52Speaker: Insomniac.
- 0:53Speaker: Researcher of the unknown.
- 0:54Speaker: By night.
- 0:55Speaker: Matt.
- 0:55Speaker: Deig.
- 1:01Speaker: He lost his job in January.
- 1:04Speaker: And then I think he just didn't have purpose.
- 1:07Speaker: That's what he did.
- 1:08Speaker: He got up, he went to work.
- 1:10Speaker: He worked all day.
- 1:11Speaker: He rode his moped back to wherever he was going and was
- 1:16Speaker: usually Chris's garage.
- 1:18Speaker: Or he would come here, he might go to his sister's.
- 1:22Speaker: I mean, I'd wake up and he was asleep on the floor next to me.
- 1:28Speaker: Zachary stopped taking his meds
- 1:29Speaker: or he wasn't getting a regular
- 1:31Speaker: one because I was starting to
- 1:33Speaker: notice.
- 1:34Speaker: If you know somebody that's schizophrenic and they're on
- 1:38Speaker: medication, you know, if they're not on medication or something's
- 1:41Speaker: not right with them.
- 1:42Speaker: He's a grown man.
- 1:44Speaker: You know, it's really hard to
- 1:45Speaker: take Mama telling you what to do
- 1:48Speaker: at that age, you know what I
- 1:49Speaker: mean?
- 1:50Speaker: So it was just I was watching.
- 1:54Speaker: I talked to him one day and he
- 1:57Speaker: said, I just don't have any
- 1:58Speaker: reason to have a schedule right
- 2:00Speaker: now.
- 2:01Speaker: I said, yeah, you do.
- 2:03Speaker: You can come out here and you can do work out here that me and
- 2:06Speaker: grandma need that.
- 2:07Speaker: And then he, him and Eric, uh,
- 2:11Speaker: got a job for about a week or
- 2:14Speaker: two in Mount Vernon, and they
- 2:16Speaker: were riding their mount, uh,
- 2:17Speaker: mopeds down there and helping
- 2:19Speaker: this lady whose apartment had
- 2:20Speaker: caught fire.
- 2:21Speaker: And they were getting it,
- 2:23Speaker: cleaning it up after the
- 2:24Speaker: incident for the insurance
- 2:25Speaker: company.
- 2:26Speaker: They made him a couple hundred dollars a piece, you know.
- 2:29Speaker: Um, Memorial weekend, I was it was like Thursday night.
- 2:34Speaker: He was headed home from here.
- 2:36Speaker: And it was after dark.
- 2:37Speaker: And, uh, they pulled him over and his plates had expired.
- 2:43Speaker: It's not like we had any big Memorial Day plans or anything.
- 2:47Speaker: I'd come get him if he wanted to come out.
- 2:49Speaker: Whatever.
- 2:50Speaker: Well, he would text me.
- 2:51Speaker: Hey, you need to watch this show on this channel or, uh.
- 2:57Speaker: have you seen this one?
- 2:58Speaker: You know, and then I would do the same to him.
- 3:01Speaker: So it was kind of like that kind of chit chat a lot of time, you
- 3:05Speaker: know, for most of the weekend.
- 3:07Speaker: It's not a big talker anyways.
- 3:10Speaker: Then he said something about he could pay for it online.
- 3:14Speaker: Yes.
- 3:14Speaker: I was questioning him.
- 3:17Speaker: Uh, how much it was going to
- 3:18Speaker: cost, blah, blah, blah, you
- 3:19Speaker: know?
- 3:20Speaker: So then he said he could do it online.
- 3:22Speaker: So my mom was going to be in town that day.
- 3:26Speaker: I don't know what she was doing.
- 3:28Speaker: And she took eighty dollars back to him.
- 3:32Speaker: And that was like late Sunday afternoon.
- 3:34Speaker: He told her, he said, grandma,
- 3:36Speaker: I'll see you Tuesday or
- 3:37Speaker: Wednesday.
- 3:38Speaker: He'd work it off.
- 3:39Speaker: You know, he he wasn't he didn't like to be.
- 3:42Speaker: He he didn't want any money from us, you know.
- 3:46Speaker: And she said, well, I needed you need you to do something
- 3:49Speaker: upstairs because he's the only one that could get upstairs.
- 3:52Speaker: I have trouble getting upstairs and that kind of thing.
- 3:55Speaker: So something she wanted him to do and he says, think, grandma,
- 3:58Speaker: that's what we'll do.
- 3:59Speaker: I can't believe he didn't call her and say, I can't come or
- 4:05Speaker: yeah, you know, I just yeah, he told her, he told, uh, Rachel
- 4:11Speaker: that he was going to check in on Cecilia because Rachel was going
- 4:16Speaker: on a retreat in Kentucky and he didn't do it.
- 4:22Speaker: That was a clip from my conversation with Gina, the
- 4:24Speaker: mother of thirty eight year old Zachary Carey, who's been
- 4:27Speaker: missing since May thirtieth, twenty twenty three.
- 4:31Speaker: Zachary was last seen when his best friend Chris, dropped him
- 4:34Speaker: off at the Lynnville Indiana welcome sign, and his family has
- 4:37Speaker: not heard from him since then.
- 4:39Speaker: His mom went on to tell me that
- 4:40Speaker: it wasn't unusual for Zachary to
- 4:43Speaker: go off into the woods and
- 4:44Speaker: disappear for several days and
- 4:46Speaker: to to make his way back home or
- 4:48Speaker: wherever he was living at that
- 4:50Speaker: time.
- 4:50Speaker: He loved being out in nature,
- 4:52Speaker: but it is highly unusual for him
- 4:54Speaker: to disappear for this long for
- 4:55Speaker: this number of months by this
- 4:57Speaker: point.
- 4:58Speaker: So the family is very concerned about Zachary's well-being and
- 5:02Speaker: want to make the public aware that Zachary may be out there.
- 5:06Speaker: And for people to keep an eye out.
- 5:09Speaker: I also had the opportunity to
- 5:10Speaker: speak with Cecilia, who is
- 5:12Speaker: Zach's sister, and Cecilia
- 5:15Speaker: filled me in a little more on
- 5:16Speaker: Zachary's background and some of
- 5:18Speaker: the circumstances surrounding
- 5:20Speaker: his disappearance.
- 5:22Speaker: Um, well, my brother, he's he's my older brother.
- 5:25Speaker: He's fifteen years older than me.
- 5:27Speaker: And I know when I was a baby, he
- 5:31Speaker: had gone to prison and he was
- 5:33Speaker: there.
- 5:33Speaker: I want to say like eight years.
- 5:35Speaker: I don't know for sure, but my mom probably would.
- 5:38Speaker: And, um, when he got out, he, you know, moved back home with
- 5:41Speaker: me and my mom, you know, got his life back together.
- 5:44Speaker: Um, and he's always been the type of person who's very quiet.
- 5:47Speaker: He's not, um, not a very big people person.
- 5:51Speaker: Um, he just likes to keep to himself.
- 5:53Speaker: Um, but he is, he is nice.
- 5:54Speaker: You know, he's he's not mean.
- 5:56Speaker: He looks mean, but he's not.
- 5:57Speaker: And, and um, he, he went back to college and he became a welder.
- 6:04Speaker: He went to Nashville like something tech in Nashville.
- 6:08Speaker: And he got, he became older.
- 6:10Speaker: So he did get his life back on track.
- 6:12Speaker: And, um, and then he was doing really good.
- 6:15Speaker: He was staying with his friend Chris.
- 6:18Speaker: And, um, he had like a nice job
- 6:20Speaker: as a welder and, you know, he
- 6:22Speaker: was just doing really good for
- 6:23Speaker: himself.
- 6:24Speaker: And then I guess at some point, I don't know if, um, because he
- 6:29Speaker: also has, um, schizophrenia, like he also has like mental,
- 6:33Speaker: um, issues, I guess I'm not sure how to word that.
- 6:36Speaker: Um, and I don't know if at some
- 6:38Speaker: point he quit taking his
- 6:39Speaker: medicine or what happened, but
- 6:42Speaker: we do know that he kind of had a
- 6:43Speaker: little bit of like a mental
- 6:44Speaker: break.
- 6:45Speaker: Um, and he, I think it stemmed from losing his job.
- 6:48Speaker: He ended up losing his job as a welder.
- 6:51Speaker: Um, he just he is still a welder.
- 6:53Speaker: He just lost the job that he was at.
- 6:55Speaker: Um, and then it kind of spiraled
- 6:57Speaker: from there, like about a month
- 6:58Speaker: after, um, he lost his job, our
- 7:02Speaker: niece overdosed and she passed
- 7:03Speaker: away.
- 7:03Speaker: She was nineteen.
- 7:04Speaker: Oh, and I know that that kind of affected him too.
- 7:07Speaker: And I think it was just the timing was bad.
- 7:10Speaker: He was already kind of in like a hole.
- 7:12Speaker: Um, and so shortly after our
- 7:14Speaker: niece passed away, he came to my
- 7:17Speaker: house and spoke to my older
- 7:18Speaker: sister.
- 7:19Speaker: She was living with me at the time.
- 7:21Speaker: Um, and him and her are closer in age and they've always been,
- 7:23Speaker: you know, really close.
- 7:25Speaker: And um, he told her that he, you
- 7:28Speaker: know, was feeling kind of
- 7:29Speaker: suicidal.
- 7:30Speaker: Um, he kind of felt like he didn't have much to live for.
- 7:33Speaker: He was, you know, a grown man.
- 7:35Speaker: He was not married.
- 7:36Speaker: He doesn't have kids.
- 7:38Speaker: Um, and he was just kind of in a, not in a good place mentally.
- 7:41Speaker: Right.
- 7:41Speaker: Um, and I didn't know what my sister talked to him and, um,
- 7:45Speaker: and, you know, at the end of the conversation, he felt much
- 7:47Speaker: better and he was like, okay, I'm going to gonna go.
- 7:49Speaker: Um, he did say something along the lines of like, um, because
- 7:53Speaker: he's always, since he is so much older than me, um, he's always
- 7:56Speaker: seen himself as kind of like a father figure to me.
- 7:58Speaker: More of like my older brother.
- 7:59Speaker: He's always kind of been that, that role.
- 8:03Speaker: And so he was like, you know,
- 8:04Speaker: he's grown up now, you know, she
- 8:06Speaker: doesn't need me to take care of
- 8:07Speaker: her anymore.
- 8:08Speaker: And he was just, you know, talking like that.
- 8:11Speaker: And then that was the last time that we saw him.
- 8:13Speaker: Um, he after that, he was like,
- 8:15Speaker: I'm just, I'm just going to go
- 8:16Speaker: home.
- 8:17Speaker: Um, and I do know my brother, we're, we're native American.
- 8:21Speaker: And so we're, you know, it's, it's in our tribe and our
- 8:24Speaker: culture, you know, we're taught to be so close to the earth.
- 8:27Speaker: And, um, when he is stressed out or, you know, feeling certain,
- 8:32Speaker: you know, that way mentally, one of the things he does is he does
- 8:35Speaker: love to go in and immerse himself in nature.
- 8:37Speaker: Like he loves to go camping and
- 8:39Speaker: he loves to just walk around in
- 8:41Speaker: the woods and, you know, fishing
- 8:43Speaker: and stuff.
- 8:43Speaker: Like he's very outdoorsy and,
- 8:45Speaker: um, and it is normal for him if
- 8:48Speaker: he's feeling, you know, some
- 8:49Speaker: type of way or even if he's
- 8:50Speaker: happy, he just loves to be
- 8:51Speaker: outside.
- 8:53Speaker: Um, and so he is kind of like, um, what's it called?
- 8:59Speaker: Um, like a survivalist.
- 9:00Speaker: Yeah.
- 9:00Speaker: Survivalist.
- 9:01Speaker: Yeah.
- 9:01Speaker: Because he, he really likes that
- 9:03Speaker: he can go outside and like be in
- 9:06Speaker: the woods for like a week with
- 9:07Speaker: like nothing.
- 9:08Speaker: He loves living off the land.
- 9:09Speaker: Mhm.
- 9:10Speaker: Um, and it's also normal for him
- 9:11Speaker: to go and do that for like long
- 9:12Speaker: periods.
- 9:13Speaker: So when we didn't hear from him
- 9:15Speaker: for a week after knowing he was
- 9:16Speaker: upset, we all kind of just
- 9:18Speaker: assumed that that's what he was
- 9:19Speaker: doing.
- 9:20Speaker: But it was weird to us because he never told us.
- 9:23Speaker: And especially being gone for so long, he if he doesn't tell us
- 9:27Speaker: where he's at, he tells us how long he's going to be away or
- 9:30Speaker: he'll tell us where he's coming back or he'll check in, you
- 9:32Speaker: know, so not so like a week went by and, you know, my sister was
- 9:37Speaker: like, I'm starting to get worried because last time I
- 9:40Speaker: talked, he was upset.
- 9:42Speaker: And now he hasn't answered any of us in a week.
- 9:45Speaker: Um, he didn't tell us where he
- 9:46Speaker: was going, and then we, um, we
- 9:50Speaker: all made the decision that we
- 9:51Speaker: should call the police because,
- 9:53Speaker: you know, like it was it just
- 9:56Speaker: didn't, it didn't seem like him
- 9:58Speaker: to not tell us what was going
- 9:59Speaker: on.
- 10:00Speaker: And then that's when we found out that, um, his friend had
- 10:04Speaker: actually, I guess, I guess after leaving my house and talking to
- 10:09Speaker: my sister, he had gone home and spoke to his friend.
- 10:12Speaker: And from what I've gathered, because I know I told you that
- 10:16Speaker: his friend wasn't very cooperative, so I didn't.
- 10:19Speaker: We don't have the his friends full side of the story, but from
- 10:22Speaker: what we've gathered, he told his friend the same thing that he
- 10:26Speaker: was feeling suicidal and that he kind of wanted to go to the
- 10:30Speaker: woods to be by himself, but potentially because that's where
- 10:34Speaker: he wanted to end his life out.
- 10:36Speaker: And personally, I feel like if you're someone's friend and they
- 10:40Speaker: tell you that you shouldn't take them to the woods to do what
- 10:43Speaker: they want to do.
- 10:44Speaker: But from what I've gathered, that's what the friend did.
- 10:47Speaker: He said, if this is what you
- 10:48Speaker: want, I'll take you to the
- 10:49Speaker: woods.
- 10:50Speaker: He supposedly my brother,
- 10:52Speaker: supposedly with his friend, left
- 10:54Speaker: his friend, his wallet, his his
- 10:57Speaker: cell phone, um, like just his
- 11:00Speaker: personal belongings he
- 11:01Speaker: supposedly left in it with his
- 11:02Speaker: friend.
- 11:04Speaker: Uh, but I know once we called the police and once the police
- 11:07Speaker: talked to the friend and they found out that the friend had
- 11:10Speaker: dropped him off in lynnville, they had done searching and they
- 11:13Speaker: had found my brother's cell phone by the welcome to
- 11:15Speaker: Lynnville sign like off the highway in Lynnville.
- 11:20Speaker: Um, and I don't know if it
- 11:22Speaker: because at this point it was out
- 11:23Speaker: there for days, so I don't know
- 11:25Speaker: if it worked or if they found
- 11:27Speaker: anything.
- 11:27Speaker: We don't know about that.
- 11:28Speaker: Okay.
- 11:30Speaker: And how many days after the after he was dropped off at the
- 11:32Speaker: sign was the phone found?
- 11:35Speaker: Um, I have I want to say I want to say Heber missing.
- 11:39Speaker: He was gone for like, I think it
- 11:41Speaker: was four or five days before we
- 11:43Speaker: were like, this doesn't feel
- 11:44Speaker: right.
- 11:45Speaker: And then I want to say it was
- 11:46Speaker: like the day after they found
- 11:48Speaker: the phone.
- 11:49Speaker: So maybe like, okay, six days
- 11:52Speaker: after he had been dropped off
- 11:54Speaker: because apparently.
- 11:56Speaker: Okay.
- 11:56Speaker: Oh, sorry.
- 11:58Speaker: No, I was just wondering if if
- 11:59Speaker: there was any tracking devices
- 12:01Speaker: on the phone or anything that
- 12:02Speaker: anyone was able to find out if
- 12:04Speaker: like, where was that phone for
- 12:06Speaker: that period of time or, you
- 12:07Speaker: know, dropped off there the day
- 12:09Speaker: before or, you know, that kind
- 12:10Speaker: of thing?
- 12:11Speaker: No, they think that it was dropped off.
- 12:13Speaker: Like when he was dropped off in Munnsville where thinking he was
- 12:16Speaker: dropped off around that sign and either he just dropped his phone
- 12:20Speaker: or he just purposely placed his phone there because it wasn't,
- 12:23Speaker: it was just sitting by the sign.
- 12:25Speaker: Like it was kind of just sitting
- 12:26Speaker: like someone had just put it
- 12:27Speaker: there.
- 12:28Speaker: Okay.
- 12:29Speaker: So not like somebody flung it
- 12:30Speaker: out of a window or something
- 12:31Speaker: like that.
- 12:31Speaker: It was like placed there.
- 12:33Speaker: Yeah.
- 12:33Speaker: It was like placed there.
- 12:34Speaker: Yeah.
- 12:35Speaker: Okay.
- 12:35Speaker: So we're thinking that when he went, we're thinking that he was
- 12:38Speaker: dropped off at Lynnville.
- 12:39Speaker: He went into the woods.
- 12:41Speaker: Um, and then he probably just got his phone right there before
- 12:44Speaker: going into the woods.
- 12:45Speaker: Um, okay.
- 12:46Speaker: And then so it was probably out
- 12:49Speaker: there for probably five or six
- 12:50Speaker: days before, before anyone got
- 12:53Speaker: to it.
- 12:54Speaker: And I don't, I don't know if it
- 12:56Speaker: worked or not or if the police
- 12:57Speaker: were able to find like tracking
- 12:59Speaker: on it.
- 13:00Speaker: Um, I asked my mom if she knows
- 13:03Speaker: that, but I haven't been asked
- 13:04Speaker: that.
- 13:05Speaker: Right.
- 13:06Speaker: Okay.
- 13:07Speaker: And it's not on like unusual for him just to kind of go off and
- 13:10Speaker: be in the woods by himself and yeah, be a survival.
- 13:14Speaker: But after a period of days and weeks, it comes like, okay, how
- 13:17Speaker: can someone support themselves for that long?
- 13:19Speaker: And, you know, for and yeah, why
- 13:21Speaker: would they not reach back out to
- 13:23Speaker: you guys?
- 13:24Speaker: Yeah.
- 13:24Speaker: And he always like, he, he was always very good.
- 13:28Speaker: He would tell us where he's going and like, like how long he
- 13:31Speaker: planned to be gone, you know, like he'd be like, oh, like I'm
- 13:34Speaker: going, you know, to the state park for, for a week.
- 13:36Speaker: You know, I'll be back, you know, this day.
- 13:38Speaker: Right.
- 13:39Speaker: And, and we might not hear from him during that week, but he
- 13:41Speaker: told us when he should be back.
- 13:42Speaker: Um, and or he would go ahead and go, but then call us and be
- 13:46Speaker: like, oh, hey, I'm here.
- 13:47Speaker: Um, not, you know, this is how long I might stay.
- 13:50Speaker: If I stay longer, I'll give you guys a call.
- 13:52Speaker: So it was always something along those lines.
- 13:54Speaker: Um, and this time he, it was
- 13:56Speaker: very worrisome because he didn't
- 13:58Speaker: tell us.
- 13:59Speaker: And also the last time anyone
- 14:01Speaker: had talked to him, he was
- 14:02Speaker: feeling suicidal.
- 14:03Speaker: And so to not to not know where
- 14:06Speaker: he went and, and then to later
- 14:08Speaker: find out his plans, it was just
- 14:09Speaker: very scary.
- 14:11Speaker: So if you guys talk had many conversations with the his
- 14:14Speaker: friend who dropped him off at the sign about this.
- 14:17Speaker: So his friend, um, he it's,
- 14:20Speaker: it's, that's like a whole nother
- 14:21Speaker: can of worms because his friend,
- 14:23Speaker: it was like their childhood,
- 14:25Speaker: they've been friends since they
- 14:26Speaker: were kids.
- 14:27Speaker: And so Chris is actually like a close family friend.
- 14:30Speaker: So when we found out that Chris was kind of involved and was
- 14:33Speaker: kind of the person who dropped him off, it was kind of like,
- 14:37Speaker: like a stab in the in the, in the back sort of way.
- 14:40Speaker: Because you, you know, we kind of I kind of saw him as like my
- 14:43Speaker: brother too, like I've known him my whole life type of deal.
- 14:46Speaker: Mhm.
- 14:46Speaker: And if that's your best friend, you know, why would you enable
- 14:50Speaker: him to commit suicide or to do something like that?
- 14:53Speaker: Um, and then when the police got involved, I know before, like in
- 14:58Speaker: the very, very beginning, my mom had tried to call Chris and
- 15:02Speaker: like, ask like, hey, have you heard from Zach?
- 15:04Speaker: And he would tell her like, no,
- 15:06Speaker: I haven't seen him in a couple
- 15:07Speaker: of days.
- 15:07Speaker: You know, I kind of just think
- 15:08Speaker: he's probably out in the woods
- 15:09Speaker: or something.
- 15:10Speaker: And then when the police got
- 15:11Speaker: involved, he became very
- 15:13Speaker: uncooperative.
- 15:13Speaker: And the police even stated that,
- 15:15Speaker: like they're having a very hard
- 15:16Speaker: time getting any information out
- 15:17Speaker: of him.
- 15:18Speaker: And then at some point when the search and rescue happened, they
- 15:21Speaker: needed, um, like Zach's clothes for like the scent dogs.
- 15:26Speaker: And I know that my sisters and I have gone to Chris's house to
- 15:29Speaker: ask because he lived with Chris.
- 15:31Speaker: So we had to, you know, ask him if we could, you know, get some
- 15:33Speaker: of his clothes.
- 15:34Speaker: And he told us no. He was like, I'm not letting you in.
- 15:37Speaker: You cannot have any of his belongings.
- 15:40Speaker: Um, and the cops had actually
- 15:41Speaker: gotten called because he was
- 15:43Speaker: just outside of us, you know,
- 15:47Speaker: feeling how we feel betrayed and
- 15:49Speaker: angry.
- 15:49Speaker: And, you know, if this is your friend, why aren't you helping
- 15:52Speaker: find him in any way you can?
- 15:54Speaker: Right.
- 15:54Speaker: Um, he did also call the police because technically, since Zach
- 15:59Speaker: lived with him and his things were left in Chris's care.
- 16:02Speaker: Chris did not have to give us anything for the scent dogs.
- 16:06Speaker: Um, and he actually didn't.
- 16:07Speaker: He did not give the police any
- 16:09Speaker: of Zach's clothes for the search
- 16:10Speaker: and rescue.
- 16:11Speaker: So the only thing that they
- 16:12Speaker: could use was Zachary's wallet
- 16:15Speaker: that they had confiscated from
- 16:16Speaker: Chris.
- 16:17Speaker: And at that point, once the police got it, it had been in
- 16:20Speaker: Chris's care for like a week and who knows who touched it.
- 16:25Speaker: So the police were even like, we
- 16:26Speaker: don't think this is going to
- 16:27Speaker: have a strong enough sense for
- 16:29Speaker: the dogs.
- 16:30Speaker: So yeah, so as far as Chris
- 16:31Speaker: goes, he's he's pretty
- 16:33Speaker: uncooperative.
- 16:34Speaker: I do know that they, um, had got warrants for him and his wife's
- 16:38Speaker: phone because they, um, we don't know what the texts say because
- 16:43Speaker: the police, you know, can't tell us some of those things.
- 16:46Speaker: Sure.
- 16:46Speaker: Yeah.
- 16:46Speaker: But the police did tell my mom that they did find some pretty
- 16:51Speaker: suspicious text messages on Chris Chris's phone.
- 16:54Speaker: Um, they did not tell her what
- 16:55Speaker: they said or who they were to or
- 16:57Speaker: who they were from, but they did
- 16:58Speaker: say that, and they said it was
- 17:00Speaker: enough that they got another
- 17:01Speaker: warrant to search his wife's
- 17:02Speaker: phone.
- 17:03Speaker: Okay.
- 17:05Speaker: Your brother was Zach renting
- 17:07Speaker: from because you said they were
- 17:08Speaker: living together.
- 17:09Speaker: Was he, like, living there?
- 17:11Speaker: Uh, there was some sort of agreement to rent or something.
- 17:14Speaker: I think so.
- 17:15Speaker: Um, I think Zachary was paying rent because it was like Chris
- 17:19Speaker: and his family lived in the house, and then they had, like,
- 17:22Speaker: a garage in the back that Zach had turned into, like, his home.
- 17:26Speaker: So kind of like a little studio situation going on back there.
- 17:29Speaker: And so I think I think he was paying rent to Chris.
- 17:32Speaker: Did Zach have any pets?
- 17:35Speaker: Yes he did.
- 17:36Speaker: He had a dog and his dog's name was cutter.
- 17:39Speaker: And he was.
- 17:40Speaker: He was a pit bull mix, I think.
- 17:43Speaker: Just like your average.
- 17:44Speaker: Average.
- 17:45Speaker: Like mixed breed dog.
- 17:47Speaker: Um, I know after he went
- 17:49Speaker: missing, that was our big
- 17:50Speaker: concern.
- 17:50Speaker: We were like, who's taking care of Zach's dog?
- 17:53Speaker: Um, and Chris, my mom had
- 17:56Speaker: reached out to Chris and was
- 17:57Speaker: like, hey, you know, we can take
- 17:59Speaker: him.
- 17:59Speaker: We, you know, cc Rachel me like
- 18:02Speaker: someone can take care of the dog
- 18:04Speaker: until we find him until he comes
- 18:05Speaker: home.
- 18:06Speaker: Um, and Chris would not give us the dog.
- 18:08Speaker: And, um, he actually gave the
- 18:10Speaker: dog to the humane society and we
- 18:13Speaker: tried to get him out, but when,
- 18:15Speaker: when the dog went into the main
- 18:17Speaker: society, you know, he was
- 18:18Speaker: scared, he didn't know what was
- 18:20Speaker: going on.
- 18:21Speaker: And um, and he, I guess he ended
- 18:22Speaker: up biting one of the like
- 18:23Speaker: handlers there.
- 18:25Speaker: And so they put him on the, the, the, the list to be put down.
- 18:29Speaker: Um, and I'm, I know we tried to
- 18:32Speaker: adopt him, but then when we
- 18:35Speaker: tried, they told us that there
- 18:36Speaker: was a very good chance they
- 18:37Speaker: weren't even going to let him be
- 18:38Speaker: adopted because he had bitten
- 18:39Speaker: someone.
- 18:40Speaker: And what I'm kind of thinking is
- 18:41Speaker: that if, if he was wanting to go
- 18:43Speaker: kind of just go live his own
- 18:45Speaker: survivalist lifestyle in the
- 18:47Speaker: woods, if he had planned that
- 18:48Speaker: out, would would he have taken
- 18:50Speaker: cutter with him, or would he or
- 18:52Speaker: would he have left the dog
- 18:54Speaker: behind for someone else to take
- 18:55Speaker: care of so he could go live
- 18:56Speaker: alone?
- 18:57Speaker: Like what would be, would that
- 18:58Speaker: would that be something he would
- 19:00Speaker: do?
- 19:00Speaker: Yeah, I know, I know, especially
- 19:02Speaker: in the summertime, they would
- 19:04Speaker: usually the dog would go with
- 19:06Speaker: him.
- 19:06Speaker: Um, I know this happened around the summertime and I think it
- 19:10Speaker: also depends on how long he planned to be gone, you know,
- 19:13Speaker: because I think if he planned to be gone for a while, he probably
- 19:15Speaker: wouldn't have taken the dog.
- 19:17Speaker: But I know that there were times
- 19:18Speaker: where he would take cutter with
- 19:19Speaker: him.
- 19:20Speaker: MM. And have there.
- 19:21Speaker: That's a good point.
- 19:22Speaker: Do you have not thought about that?
- 19:24Speaker: Yeah.
- 19:24Speaker: I mean if if they were really
- 19:26Speaker: close you know and you know
- 19:28Speaker: you're going to take a long trip
- 19:29Speaker: somewhere, you might bring your
- 19:30Speaker: dog.
- 19:30Speaker: But then, like you said, if if it's too long, then you have to
- 19:33Speaker: take care of two.
- 19:33Speaker: I don't know.
- 19:34Speaker: I was just thinking, plan something out and you were close
- 19:36Speaker: to your pet.
- 19:37Speaker: It seems like you'd have some kind of game plan for that.
- 19:40Speaker: Yeah.
- 19:41Speaker: Yeah.
- 19:42Speaker: And he really.
- 19:42Speaker: He really did love his dog, also his companion.
- 19:46Speaker: And so that was another thing for us was we were like, he
- 19:49Speaker: wouldn't just leave it behind.
- 19:51Speaker: Right.
- 19:51Speaker: And he especially wouldn't want to wouldn't have wanted Chris to
- 19:54Speaker: give him to the Humane Society.
- 19:57Speaker: Right.
- 19:57Speaker: And have there been like sightings of Zac anywhere since
- 20:02Speaker: since anyone's heard from him?
- 20:04Speaker: Yes and no. We've had a lot of people, like random people will
- 20:09Speaker: just text us and say like, hey, I think I saw your brother.
- 20:12Speaker: I think he's here.
- 20:13Speaker: And we always look into it and
- 20:15Speaker: it's either him or it's just
- 20:18Speaker: there's, it just is not a good
- 20:21Speaker: lead, I guess, because a lot of
- 20:23Speaker: random people do text us and
- 20:24Speaker: say, you know, oh, I think I saw
- 20:26Speaker: him at Walmart or I think I saw
- 20:27Speaker: him here.
- 20:27Speaker: And but it's never, it's never true.
- 20:30Speaker: And, or it's, you know, someone
- 20:31Speaker: who could just look like him or
- 20:34Speaker: it's just random people texting
- 20:35Speaker: us.
- 20:36Speaker: Um, there was one, I guess, kind
- 20:38Speaker: of recently, one of Zachary's
- 20:40Speaker: old co-workers from his welding
- 20:42Speaker: job was driving by the Marina,
- 20:44Speaker: and they said that he thought he
- 20:47Speaker: saw Zachary walking, like from
- 20:49Speaker: the Marina.
- 20:50Speaker: And so he called my older sister, and my older sister
- 20:53Speaker: said, well, if you because, you know, since it was his coworker,
- 20:56Speaker: we were like, well, he would he obviously knows Zach.
- 20:58Speaker: So he would recognize Zach on the street.
- 21:00Speaker: So my sister said, you need to call the Warrick County Police.
- 21:03Speaker: And if you think you saw him, you need to tell them that.
- 21:06Speaker: And I I'm assuming he did call them because I know that they
- 21:10Speaker: had talked to my mom about going to the Marina and reviewing
- 21:14Speaker: cameras, but we never really heard back from them.
- 21:17Speaker: They said that they were treating it as a real sighting,
- 21:20Speaker: but in the camera footage, I guess you couldn't see his face.
- 21:23Speaker: That's about the only sighting.
- 21:26Speaker: Maybe it's kind of a maybe because it's like the coworker
- 21:29Speaker: says, it's him.
- 21:30Speaker: The police said that they're treating it as a real sighting,
- 21:32Speaker: but also they couldn't verify that it was him.
- 21:36Speaker: Um, a couple weeks ago, actually, someone again had had
- 21:39Speaker: called my mom or my sister and said, hey, I think I see Zach.
- 21:42Speaker: I think he is in Kentucky.
- 21:45Speaker: And so we all drove to because
- 21:46Speaker: they gave us like an exact
- 21:47Speaker: place.
- 21:48Speaker: They were like, he's living at.
- 21:50Speaker: Like, there was like a kind of like one of those tent cities
- 21:53Speaker: for the homeless, right?
- 21:55Speaker: Um, they were like, he's staying in a tent behind this hotel and
- 21:58Speaker: it's by the smoke shop and he frequents the smoke shop.
- 22:01Speaker: So we all drove down there.
- 22:03Speaker: We went to this place where
- 22:05Speaker: people were camping in their
- 22:07Speaker: tents.
- 22:08Speaker: We didn't see him.
- 22:09Speaker: We asked around.
- 22:10Speaker: Most people said that they did not see him.
- 22:13Speaker: We were showing his pictures.
- 22:14Speaker: There was one man, the the guy
- 22:16Speaker: who was a cashier at the smoke
- 22:17Speaker: shop.
- 22:18Speaker: He said that that that the man in the picture looks familiar,
- 22:21Speaker: that he feels like he has seen that man before, but he didn't
- 22:23Speaker: give us a specific.
- 22:25Speaker: Yes, I see this man.
- 22:26Speaker: He comes in every day.
- 22:27Speaker: Right.
- 22:27Speaker: Or, you know, um, so that was a that was as far as we got there.
- 22:31Speaker: And again, it was kind of just one of those empty leads.
- 22:35Speaker: Like we don't know if it's true,
- 22:36Speaker: but again, that was very
- 22:37Speaker: specific.
- 22:37Speaker: And at this point, so many people text us and say, oh, we
- 22:41Speaker: think we saw him.
- 22:42Speaker: You know, it's like, we can't call the police every single
- 22:44Speaker: time because then the police are just going to think we're crazy
- 22:46Speaker: because we're calling them so much with all these people who
- 22:49Speaker: say they see him.
- 22:50Speaker: And so that's kind of why we
- 22:51Speaker: chose to go and check it out
- 22:52Speaker: ourselves before, because that's
- 22:54Speaker: also in Kentucky, we'd have to
- 22:55Speaker: get the Kentucky police
- 22:56Speaker: involved.
- 22:57Speaker: You don't know what rabbit holes to jump down because it's like,
- 23:00Speaker: is this a missing person?
- 23:01Speaker: Is he wanting to not be found?
- 23:03Speaker: And he's like actively trying to avoid being caught, which makes
- 23:07Speaker: it even more difficult.
- 23:08Speaker: Or did he choose to end things himself?
- 23:12Speaker: Or is there something like, did he have any enemies?
- 23:14Speaker: Um, like, would somebody have,
- 23:16Speaker: you know, that he got into it
- 23:16Speaker: with somebody?
- 23:17Speaker: But I mean, everything is on the table.
- 23:19Speaker: I guess it is.
- 23:21Speaker: And I know, um, when, when he first went missing, They the
- 23:25Speaker: police kind of told us like, you know, like he's a grown man.
- 23:27Speaker: He has a past.
- 23:29Speaker: Um, he he was an addict in his past.
- 23:32Speaker: Mhm.
- 23:32Speaker: Um, and so they were like, you
- 23:34Speaker: know, there's a very good chance
- 23:35Speaker: maybe he's just using again and
- 23:36Speaker: maybe he's just strung out
- 23:38Speaker: somewhere.
- 23:39Speaker: Right.
- 23:40Speaker: Um, and, and a lot of the people
- 23:41Speaker: who say that they see him, it
- 23:43Speaker: kind of follows that in the
- 23:45Speaker: sense that he might just be
- 23:47Speaker: strung out in, in a homeless
- 23:48Speaker: camp.
- 23:49Speaker: Uh, I really hope that's, that's not it.
- 23:51Speaker: But also that sounds better than
- 23:53Speaker: my brother killing himself in
- 23:54Speaker: the woods.
- 23:55Speaker: And then the only reason that we
- 23:58Speaker: were worried that he may have
- 23:59Speaker: committed suicide is because of
- 24:01Speaker: the way that he was talking, and
- 24:02Speaker: because of the fact that he did
- 24:04Speaker: not tell us he was going
- 24:05Speaker: anywhere.
- 24:06Speaker: And then his friend ended up being a very sketchy character
- 24:10Speaker: in his disappearance.
- 24:11Speaker: Yeah.
- 24:12Speaker: Um, I personally think that
- 24:14Speaker: Chris knows a lot more than what
- 24:16Speaker: he's telling us, and so I don't
- 24:18Speaker: know.
- 24:18Speaker: Um, I really, I, I pray and I pray every night that he is
- 24:22Speaker: alive And again, I don't I don't wish that he's strung out in a
- 24:26Speaker: homeless camp, but that's better than the alternative.
- 24:29Speaker: If he were to have taken off somewhere and to be, would you.
- 24:32Speaker: Do you guys have an idea where he may go to?
- 24:34Speaker: Like, where would be his place that he would escape to and kind
- 24:37Speaker: of blend in with society?
- 24:39Speaker: Would you just kind of is he
- 24:40Speaker: comfortable with that society of
- 24:43Speaker: like the homeless camps and
- 24:46Speaker: homeless shelters, like where
- 24:47Speaker: you could literally live off the
- 24:48Speaker: grid?
- 24:48Speaker: Because, I mean, he has no phone.
- 24:50Speaker: He doesn't have money wallet.
- 24:52Speaker: Um, so he's literally you said he's a survivalist or could live
- 24:57Speaker: out in the woods by himself.
- 24:59Speaker: So would he just are there, is
- 25:01Speaker: there like a woods or something
- 25:03Speaker: that he would gravitate to that
- 25:04Speaker: he would feel most comfortable
- 25:06Speaker: in?
- 25:06Speaker: Yes.
- 25:07Speaker: And it was the woods.
- 25:09Speaker: Um, I know dropped off.
- 25:10Speaker: Okay.
- 25:11Speaker: I was dropped off.
- 25:11Speaker: Yeah.
- 25:12Speaker: When my brother was a kid, he, I think he lived with, I think
- 25:17Speaker: they were cousins.
- 25:18Speaker: I don't know if this was before I was born.
- 25:20Speaker: Mhm.
- 25:21Speaker: But, um, but when he was a kid,
- 25:22Speaker: he lived in Lynnville with our
- 25:24Speaker: cousins and he kind of grew up
- 25:25Speaker: there.
- 25:26Speaker: So he grew up very familiar with those woods with that area.
- 25:29Speaker: And that is one of the main
- 25:30Speaker: places where if he wanted to go,
- 25:33Speaker: you know, go camp, go on a hike,
- 25:34Speaker: whatever.
- 25:35Speaker: It was usually like around the Lynnville State Park area or
- 25:38Speaker: just the woods around the Elberfeld Lynnville area.
- 25:41Speaker: Right.
- 25:41Speaker: There's there's quite a few in that area.
- 25:43Speaker: I mean, somebody yeah, there's,
- 25:45Speaker: you know, if somebody were going
- 25:47Speaker: to go try to disappear, I guess
- 25:48Speaker: it's possible you could just,
- 25:50Speaker: you know.
- 25:50Speaker: Yeah, you could do that.
- 25:51Speaker: I know when when the search team, when we.
- 25:54Speaker: Because when the Warren County police, they, they did a search
- 25:58Speaker: and they there were divers in the lake at the state park.
- 26:01Speaker: Mhm.
- 26:01Speaker: And then there was like firefighters and the police and
- 26:04Speaker: like a special rescue team.
- 26:06Speaker: And it took them.
- 26:08Speaker: I want to say more.
- 26:09Speaker: It was like a couple days for
- 26:10Speaker: them to like completely comb
- 26:11Speaker: through all those woods because
- 26:12Speaker: there's, it's such a dense,
- 26:14Speaker: thick woods and there's so much
- 26:16Speaker: of it.
- 26:16Speaker: I know they were looking for
- 26:17Speaker: another missing person, Andy
- 26:19Speaker: Wagner.
- 26:19Speaker: I did an episode on her, but they were looking up in some
- 26:22Speaker: stripper pits in that area.
- 26:23Speaker: I think Peabody Coal had given
- 26:24Speaker: them permission to do some, um,
- 26:26Speaker: searching.
- 26:27Speaker: So, you know, I guess they would have also found something.
- 26:29Speaker: I think they were looking, you know, it's hard to find a person
- 26:32Speaker: in, in that kind of thing, but there were people out there
- 26:34Speaker: looking for her so inadvertently they'd be looking for him too.
- 26:39Speaker: Yeah.
- 26:40Speaker: Um, we, I remember when we were, we had gone up there for the
- 26:44Speaker: search party and then because we thought, you know, the search
- 26:46Speaker: party, we thought we were also going to be out in the woods
- 26:49Speaker: helping look for him.
- 26:50Speaker: But the police were like, no,
- 26:51Speaker: because it's, you know, he's
- 26:54Speaker: been gone for so long that at
- 26:56Speaker: that point, they told us that
- 26:57Speaker: they were more than likely
- 26:58Speaker: searching for a body and not a
- 27:00Speaker: person.
- 27:00Speaker: And they said that that is not something they would want us to
- 27:03Speaker: be in the woods looking for.
- 27:04Speaker: Um, and also just because it is such a thick forest, we could
- 27:08Speaker: easily get lost and turned around because we are not, we
- 27:11Speaker: are not familiar with that the way my brother is.
- 27:13Speaker: Um, so they were really nice.
- 27:14Speaker: They gave us a shelter to stay in.
- 27:17Speaker: Um, and they brought us water and people from the community
- 27:19Speaker: brought us food like they.
- 27:21Speaker: The whole community was really nice to us.
- 27:23Speaker: Oh that's nice.
- 27:23Speaker: And we were walking around the state park.
- 27:25Speaker: We were like passing out flyers and hanging them up.
- 27:28Speaker: And we actually met someone who
- 27:30Speaker: was friends with Andy, with
- 27:32Speaker: Andy's mom.
- 27:33Speaker: Oh, yeah.
- 27:33Speaker: And she like, she, like, prayed with us.
- 27:35Speaker: She was like, I know what it feels like.
- 27:37Speaker: And, you know, I really hope that you guys can find him.
- 27:39Speaker: So yeah, that is crazy that you said that, but yeah.
- 27:41Speaker: But yeah, we did meet her.
- 27:43Speaker: I think it was like her aunt or someone.
- 27:45Speaker: Yeah.
- 27:45Speaker: Her aunt has been and her mother
- 27:46Speaker: actually passed away a couple
- 27:49Speaker: months ago.
- 27:50Speaker: She, I think is what happened.
- 27:52Speaker: So I think just the stress of not being able to find Andy just
- 27:56Speaker: I think it was too much for her.
- 27:57Speaker: So I mean, it's just it's rough on the whole family.
- 28:00Speaker: And you know, what you guys are going through is just it's a lot
- 28:04Speaker: of just the not knowing.
- 28:05Speaker: It's one thing to know that something happened, but it's
- 28:07Speaker: another thing to like, okay, is he in an encampment?
- 28:09Speaker: Is he hurt somewhere?
- 28:11Speaker: Is he just wanting to not be found?
- 28:14Speaker: It's got to drive you guys crazy.
- 28:16Speaker: And it does.
- 28:17Speaker: It does.
- 28:18Speaker: And there's so many people who will tell me like, oh, I think
- 28:21Speaker: he's just strung out or, oh, you know, he probably is dead.
- 28:25Speaker: And, and I'm like, I don't, I don't want, I don't want to
- 28:27Speaker: think about it.
- 28:28Speaker: But unfortunately, it's like, you can't not think about it.
- 28:31Speaker: It almost doesn't feel real because there are so many times
- 28:35Speaker: when I just think I'm like, oh, like, because also Zach, he, he
- 28:40Speaker: was, he was around.
- 28:42Speaker: He wasn't, you know, not around or in the family, but he just,
- 28:45Speaker: he was the type of sibling, I guess, where I could go, you
- 28:50Speaker: know, a couple a week or so without talking to him.
- 28:53Speaker: And then he would just show up
- 28:54Speaker: in my house and he'd be like, I
- 28:56Speaker: just wanted to come check on
- 28:57Speaker: you.
- 28:57Speaker: And so all the time, I just feel like, you know, maybe I'm just
- 29:00Speaker: going to come home one day and then he'll, he'll just be here
- 29:02Speaker: to check on me.
- 29:03Speaker: I feel like that a lot.
- 29:05Speaker: Hopefully you guys are able to find him and he's you know this
- 29:09Speaker: has a happy ending.
- 29:10Speaker: That's that's what I hope.
- 29:13Speaker: And I actually reached out to uh, his friend Chris, but I
- 29:17Speaker: haven't heard back from him, so I guess that's not surprising.
- 29:19Speaker: He probably doesn't sound like he would want to talk, but I
- 29:23Speaker: thought I'd give him the opportunity, you know?
- 29:25Speaker: Yes.
- 29:26Speaker: And if if he does talk to you, I. We're all we would all love
- 29:30Speaker: to hear what he has to say.
- 29:31Speaker: Yeah, I think even the police.
- 29:33Speaker: But but you never know.
- 29:34Speaker: Maybe he's like, hey, I just want to clear the air.
- 29:35Speaker: And this is what happened.
- 29:37Speaker: And so is there anything else you'd like to that you want to
- 29:40Speaker: share or that you think people need to know?
- 29:43Speaker: I think, um, I know when we were first posting, you know, like on
- 29:47Speaker: social media about his disappearance, um, the police
- 29:50Speaker: had asked us to put in our post, like when we made like the
- 29:53Speaker: missing person thing to put on it that, that he, I mean, it's
- 29:59Speaker: been so all these months and to our knowledge, he has not had
- 30:02Speaker: his medicine, uh, which means that he mentally could be in a
- 30:07Speaker: very different state right now.
- 30:09Speaker: And it's not that my brother, my brother is not a threat.
- 30:12Speaker: Like, he is not a mean person, but we don't know what type of
- 30:16Speaker: state he is in mentally.
- 30:18Speaker: And so the police stress to us
- 30:20Speaker: that, you know, if someone
- 30:21Speaker: thinks that they see him, like
- 30:23Speaker: don't approach him because we
- 30:25Speaker: don't know how he's going to
- 30:26Speaker: react and to just call the
- 30:27Speaker: police first.
- 30:29Speaker: Um, and that's, I guess that
- 30:30Speaker: would be the only thing that I
- 30:30Speaker: want to mention because a lot of
- 30:32Speaker: people kind of read that and
- 30:33Speaker: they kind of took it as, oh,
- 30:35Speaker: like, he's dangerous and he's,
- 30:37Speaker: he's not mentally there enough
- 30:39Speaker: to, you know, refrain himself
- 30:41Speaker: from becoming aggressive or
- 30:42Speaker: whatever.
- 30:43Speaker: Um, and I would like to think that that's not my brother, that
- 30:47Speaker: he wouldn't react that way.
- 30:49Speaker: But I also don't know where he is mentally.
- 30:51Speaker: And I know that it has been so long without his medicine.
- 30:54Speaker: Um, and that would be the one thing I just want to stress to
- 30:57Speaker: people that he is a good person.
- 31:00Speaker: Um, but definitely probably
- 31:02Speaker: don't approach him if you think
- 31:03Speaker: you see him and please call the
- 31:05Speaker: Warren County Sheriff's
- 31:06Speaker: Department if you have any
- 31:08Speaker: information or if you think you
- 31:09Speaker: might have saw him like anything
- 31:11Speaker: and the number to contact the
- 31:13Speaker: Warrick County Sheriff's
- 31:14Speaker: Department is eight one two
- 31:16Speaker: eight nine seven six one eight
- 31:18Speaker: zero, and you can find that
- 31:20Speaker: number down in the show notes at
- 31:22Speaker: River City Mystery dot com slash
- 31:24Speaker: fifteen.
- 31:25Speaker: I'll also have photos of Zachary that you can reference to see
- 31:29Speaker: you know who you're looking for.
- 31:31Speaker: Keep in mind it has been a
- 31:32Speaker: number of months though, so he
- 31:34Speaker: may have.
- 31:34Speaker: His appearance may have changed.
- 31:36Speaker: He may have lost weight.
- 31:37Speaker: He may have more facial hair.
- 31:38Speaker: So keep that in mind.
- 31:40Speaker: I want to thank Gina and Cecilia for sharing their stories today.
- 31:44Speaker: Hopefully it brings the family
- 31:45Speaker: one step closer to bringing
- 31:47Speaker: Zachary home.
- 31:49Speaker: Thank you for listening.
- 31:50Speaker: Until next time, take care.
