- 0:21show. We're the evid indoorsmen at home on the go. We're the avid
- 0:27Indoorsmen. We hope you love it, so come on in and stay.
- 0:33We'll do our best to make you smile. The indoors man. What is
- 0:41happening? I'm Rob Blundquist, I'm Boots, and we are the avid indoors
- 0:47Hello everyone, Hellolo, how are you today? Sir? You know I'm
- 0:51doing great, buddy. I stayed inside all day, I think today,
- 0:55So what a what a glorious day. It was quite an indoorsment you are?
- 1:00I know? I am Oh I did go grocery shopping? Well,
- 1:03you just lied to me. Yep, I lied. I lied, but
- 1:06only because I'm my dumb head, not because I am full of mallets.
- 1:11I went. But otherwise inside all day, nice, nice relaxing day.
- 1:15It's been lovely we had. It was Saint Patrick's date today and so I
- 1:21went over to my thought through, isn't it. I forgot, Yes,
- 1:26I thought it was yesterday. It's today. I guess everyone was just celebrating
- 1:30yesterday. They always celebrate. I'm a duddy. But do you have any
- 1:37any of that in your background? Yeah? Yeah, I did. The
- 1:40which one was it? I think Ancestry is the one I did. I
- 1:42shared way more English and Irish and Scottish than I thought originally, so yeah,
- 1:49not like a ton a ton. I'm mostly Polish and Prussian, but
- 1:53uh yeah, but yeah, there's some in there celebrated I did. I
- 2:00had potatoes for me, That's all I wanted. So I don't know if
- 2:06you had potatoes, but yeah, and I hung out. We went to
- 2:09my folks and my grandparents were there, which was really cool. And a
- 2:15little Norman was over there, little the little Cavapoo. He's a biting Yeah,
- 2:20I bet he's a biting boy. Oh big time. Yeah, you
- 2:24can't can't get away without a little just little razor blades. They're just they're
- 2:30sharp. It was really something, but it was pretty cool. I got
- 2:36to see you last night, which made me very happy. We went outside.
- 2:39We went outside, well first we went inside and we went to this
- 2:43really cool place I'd never been you had been before. Yeah, but what's
- 2:47it called the market at Malcolm Yards. That's exactly it. Yeah, it's
- 2:53one of these food hall type places that seem to be kind of all the
- 2:55rage I feel like right now for sure, and makes sense. It's probably
- 3:00way cheaper for the establishments like to rent like one big building together, like
- 3:06the restaurants and stuff, I would think, I don't know, but it
- 3:09was just so cool. It was so many restaurants that I know, yeah,
- 3:13and good like good ones, good ones. Yeah. We we ate
- 3:16some stuff. We guys had a fried chicken yep. I had uh oh,
- 3:22I had the fried chicken sandwich. I had some ice cream. You
- 3:25guys had some gumbo gumbo. That gumbo looked good. It was good,
- 3:30mister Paul's. And those tacos. Did you ever try the tacos? I
- 3:34had a bite. It was good Martez tacos. I think it's called Yeah,
- 3:38I know. Kels was like these are she was into Carimo yep.
- 3:42So, but then we got to see the Minnesota United plane. It was
- 3:45it was very chilly, not so much for you, but for me it
- 3:49was very chilly. It was definitely, I mean we were getting there yeah.
- 3:52By the end, I was like, yeah, I'd be if I
- 3:53stood out in this any longer, I'd be cold for sure. You know,
- 3:57it's just it's just that durn wind. It was a very windy buddy.
- 4:01Yeah, that is true. It cuts through you, it really did.
- 4:04But I got to see United win, which was really fun. That
- 4:09was a fun game. Man. It was cool. That was really cool.
- 4:12That was was I really liked it. Cool. That place is so
- 4:15cool too. Yeah, great place to watch watch some football or soccer as
- 4:20they say, Yeah, I'm gonna have to do that more often for sure.
- 4:24Yes, that was fun. You should go to more hell. Yeah.
- 4:28But aside from all that, what was the last movie you watch?
- 4:30Just this very day, I watched a movie I've been meaning to watch.
- 4:33I rented Argyle today because you can rent it to the street now. Yeah,
- 4:40okay, cool, I need too. I had kind of heard some
- 4:44not great thing same. I enjoyed it. I will say it is very
- 4:51convoluted in a way that I just don't know that it needed to be.
- 4:57It's it's one of those like, uh, it's a out an author who
- 5:01like writes about spies and stuff. And you know, if you saw the
- 5:04trailer, you see the scene where they're like it comes true and then whatever,
- 5:09you know, Like, but Sam Rockwell's in it, Bryce Dallas Howard,
- 5:12Henry Cavill, Brian Kranston, like it is, John Sene is in
- 5:16it. It's stacked stacked in pact. But there are so many like oh
- 5:20and now this thing happened. Like there's a lot of twists and turns and
- 5:25arguably too many. But I did have a really good time for like most
- 5:30all of it. I guess there was just a couple times where I was
- 5:32like, oh, Okay, that happened. Okay, cool, Yeah,
- 5:36like let's just keep having a nice time. It's it's kind of a I
- 5:40would say it's closest to that Mister Right movie, which I compared it to
- 5:46earlier, because Sam Rockwell's in that too. But it's that same sort of
- 5:48like kind of flippant action movie but like doesn't take itself too seriously, you
- 5:55know what I mean, Like that sort of a story kind of spyy as
- 5:58well, like the Melissa McCarthy movie, which was so good. Ye so
- 6:02yeah, all the parts are really fun, the people are really good.
- 6:06The movie. It has some spots where you're just like what okay, so
- 6:11all right, I guess that's what we're doing. But overall, I really
- 6:14had a nice time, and I think it's definitely worth watching. It's a
- 6:16titch long as well, but I still I still had a great time.
- 6:20I don't know, I don't want to like downput it too much, you
- 6:23know, but A right exactly. I was going to be going in with
- 6:29low expectations just from everything that I read online, because I wanted to see
- 6:32that in the theater. Same yeah, and then I kind of the same
- 6:35thing as you heard. I was like, oh, well, I guess
- 6:39I guess I don't need to rush for that. We'll wait for that or
- 6:41whatever. So but yeah, so I would say check it out. I
- 6:46think it'd be a really great flight movie, you know, if you got
- 6:48some flights coming up, although it's like two hours and nineteen minutes, so
- 6:53it's kind of a long ish flight. Yeah, depending perfect perfect to Nashville.
- 6:58That's true. Well, that work out great. But yeah, so
- 7:00that's what I watched. How about you, what's the most recent movie you've
- 7:02seen? A few weeks back, Kelson and I went to the theater for
- 7:05the first time in a while to check out the new Ethan Cohen written and
- 7:10directed movie Drive Away Dolls. Oh fun. I saw that as well.
- 7:14I was planning on talking about it next episode. What did you want?
- 7:17Beat you two? It? You did? I did? I enjoyed it
- 7:23for the people who don't know what it is. Yeah, it's set in
- 7:26nineteen ninety nine and these women go on a road trip to Tallahassee and they
- 7:32don't know that they have something valuable in the trunk and some criminals are coming
- 7:36after him. Yeah. Yeah, And it's very Coen Brothers plot, like
- 7:43yeah, big and characters right, like, all of it all checks out.
- 7:46If you didn't know who wrote and directed it, you'd be like,
- 7:49well, I have an idea. I feel like, you know, all
- 7:53the characters are way out there, super eccentric, feeling very much like a
- 7:58Coen Brothers dah. I felt like mar Grit quality. Feels very much like
- 8:01George Clooney and O brother that same kind of fast talking goofy. And that
- 8:09Geraldine Viswanathan is wonderful. She's so fun. Man, I hope keeps doing
- 8:16more and more stuff. She was in Was she in Blockers? Was that
- 8:20her other big? Maybe that might pay it? Totally agree, She's awesome.
- 8:24She's wonderful, and Beanie Feldstein as a small role. It was fun.
- 8:28There's a bunch of other folks you'd recognize but probably don't know their names
- 8:33totally. And I liked it the more that I thought about it. When
- 8:37I like, I was like, what they did some really weird transition things
- 8:46that were taking me out of the movie, and I was like, why
- 8:50why are we doing this? And so I was just very confused by that
- 8:56take. But just from like the very first scene, like you knew it
- 9:01was like kind of goofy ye, not also not taking itself too seriously,
- 9:05and it was a different kind of tone. But the more I thought about
- 9:11it, because I love Coen Brothers characters, Yes, I really enjoyed that
- 9:16part of it. Yeah, And I wonder if they added those like transition
- 9:20things because it because it's only an hour twenty four minutes, like, yeah,
- 9:24I was short with those, So I wonder if they were like,
- 9:28well, we either have to like kind of add more bulk or we do
- 9:33this and it like yeah, make it's it's interesting. I don't know,
- 9:35they don't usually have trouble with that, so no, oh, I guess
- 9:39this isn't both of them right, like, it's right, it was just
- 9:43Ethan. It's just Ethan and his wife. I think was integral to writing
- 9:48and helping with all of it. I think, so. Yeah. Anyway,
- 9:52one really cool thing about it is that it's a woman woman love story
- 9:58and I didn't really go for it, and it's yeah, it just you
- 10:03know, it feels like a like a regular story. Agree in I enjoyed
- 10:09that part of it quite a bit. It feels kind of like progressive only
- 10:13in that it's like such not a big deal. I feel like, right,
- 10:16yeah, yeah, I like that. I was like, oh yeah,
- 10:20okay, cool, that's kind of fun. That would have been like
- 10:22the main bit right ten years ago or whatever, probably, but yeah,
- 10:26it's pretty cool. Yeah. I really enjoyed it after sitting with it for
- 10:33a little while. Sure, yeah, yeah, I get that. I
- 10:35mean, if you're a Cohen Brothers fan, you gotta watch this movie.
- 10:39Yeah, you're gonna like it well enough at least, right for sure?
- 10:41Yeah with you nice. Have you been streaming anything? Yeah, I streamed.
- 10:46I've actually finished the whole series of Masters of the Air. My dad
- 10:52was literally talking to me about this today. I bet he loved it because
- 10:56he's such a. He's such a history buff in general. Hopefully it was
- 11:00accurate from his standpoint, because I feel like, yeah, yeah, I
- 11:05think it's a really great series. I will say it's like in like the
- 11:11Pantheon of Band of Brothers and stuff. It's not as good as that,
- 11:16obviously incredible, but that's like maybe the best show I've ever seen, you
- 11:22know, like it it's incredible. This is really really good though, So
- 11:26don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to like bag on it at all
- 11:28or anything. Really cool story all about obviously the pilots. I thought it
- 11:35was going to be more about the war in the Pacific, but it is
- 11:39pretty much about the mainland Europe war more or less. Like there's some little
- 11:43stuff but mostly that and just really compelling stuff and you know, some obviously
- 11:50information that I hadn't heard of, a bunch that you know, or a
- 11:54few things that I had of course through just learning about these this time and
- 11:58how crazy it was, but then a bunch of new stuff that was very
- 12:01specific to them, and and it was really cool. And there's just I
- 12:05assume like this will be a nice like ballast point for us to look back
- 12:11on in like five years and be like, oh, everybody was in that
- 12:13because that Austin Butler dude was in it. And oh yeah, Callum Turner,
- 12:18guy who I only know from a couple things. He was in the
- 12:24the what is it? The Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them? He's
- 12:31Newt's brother in that, So it's not a big part, but that's the
- 12:35only thing I really recognized him from. He's really good, though, I
- 12:39keep an eye out on him. He's really good. And then oh,
- 12:41he was in that New Boys in the Boat, which I heard was really
- 12:43good. Yeah, and I have I haven't seen that. That's the Rowboat
- 12:46one, right, So yeah, and then very Kegan is in it and
- 13:00he's amazing obviously. So they get some really they get some you know,
- 13:03big actors as well, but then a bunch of these you know, obviously
- 13:07most of these cats were pretty young men, right, So they get a
- 13:11lot of a lot of actors in that age range. And so I just
- 13:13think we'll be like, oh, well, he was in it, he
- 13:16was in it, he did stuff laters, Yeah, for sure, So
- 13:20I think that'll be kind of fun. And and yeah, I think if
- 13:22you like the dramatizations of that time period at all. I think you'll really
- 13:26enjoy it because it's really well done and the production value is awesome the whole
- 13:31way through, and it's it's pretty nuts, man, it's pretty crazy.
- 13:35So yeah, I had a really great time. I recommend nice. How
- 13:39about you though you be streaming? Yes, I was also at Apple TV
- 13:43Plus and I watched the newer show Lessons in Chemistry that out. Yeah,
- 13:52it was, it was good. It took me a minute to get into
- 13:56it. So Bree Larson plays this brilliant chemist. But it's in the late
- 14:01like it's in the fifties. Yeah, yeah, and women had a hard
- 14:05time in that profession wasn't widely accepted totally, so she had a hard time.
- 14:11And so she becomes a that you see it from the trailers, so
- 14:15I'm not like spoiling it too much, but she becomes a TV host of
- 14:18a cooking show. She teaches housewives about much more than recipes. That's cool
- 14:26and it was fun. It was really fun seeing her in something other than
- 14:31Marvel for a while. You know, she's such a character she is.
- 14:35She was very good in this. It was so different from that. Is
- 14:41this based on a true story at all? Or it's like hard to tell.
- 14:45Maybe it sounds like it's a fictional character, okay, but they pulled
- 14:50from the few people. Yeah, that's cool, is what I read about.
- 14:54Yeah, Lewis Pullman, Bill Pullman's son is in it. Cool and
- 15:00he's pretty good in there as well. Rain Wilson shows up as the like
- 15:05greedy showrunner guy and I haven't seen him do anything for a long time,
- 15:11so that was fun. Yeah, that's cool. But yeah, it took
- 15:15me a little bit to get into it, but it was definitely worth watching.
- 15:18By the end of it, I was glad I watched it. Yeah,
- 15:22yeah, it was really it was well done. Yeah, I've been
- 15:26meaning to check that out, so I'll have to make sure to do that.
- 15:28That's cool. Do it check it out Apple TV plus nice love it?

- 16:30an extended version of every episode we put out. We'll do a top five
- 16:36draft that pertains to the movie we're talking about. And for this one,
- 16:38we decided to do our top five favorite Shakespeare movies. Yeah, yeah,
- 16:47adaptations, even if they mentioned Shakespeare and it's it's memorable. Yeah, adaptations,
- 16:53illusions, anything, we'll take it off. Anything. We're fascinating.
- 16:57Yeah, it gonna be a fun one. I think I'm excited for surely.
- 17:02And yeah, so, but you can only listen to that if your
- 17:06Patron, so go check it out right now coming attractions. Shakespeare loved a
- 17:11ghost So we're gonna do ghost Busters next. Yes, Yes, it's is
- 17:15gonna be so fun. I can't wait. It's been so long since I've
- 17:18seen it. Same and man, I loved that movie as a kiddo,
- 17:22so it was funny. One of my biggest memories that I have with that.
- 17:26When I was a kid, I had a buddy sleeping over. He
- 17:30was like, do you want to watch Ghostbusters? I was like yeah,
- 17:33and I was amped, and like as I was thinking of I was like,
- 17:34oh that might that's kind of give me nightmares. Later I was like,
- 17:40well, we could maybe watch something else too. Probably, I just
- 17:42remember just trying to pivot. What do you think about three or something?
- 17:47I don't know, it's exactly that's really funny. Yeah, and go back
- 17:51to that. I was like maybe not maybe, maybe maybe not that.
- 17:56Have you heard about under Siege? There's a great birthday, sy, a
- 18:03great birthday sy, and let me show you. It's at forty five minutes
- 18:07and twenty two seconds. But that'll be tons of fun. Is that one
- 18:12having annivers No, that one's not an anniversary, right, It is just
- 18:17the new one is coming out soon. It definitely is one of them is
- 18:22having an anniversary? Is that one? Then? I know that Ghostbusters too,
- 18:29We're also going to do that as well, Ghostbusters eighty four. Yeah,
- 18:33it's forty years ago. Damn forty years that's pretty wild. So yeah,
- 18:38that'll be fun to see how that holds up. I'm excited for that,
- 18:41me too. But we are here today to talk about a lovely film
- 18:45called Ten Things I Hate About You, and I'm so excited me too.
- 18:52I just I just want to get right into it, Rob, So can
- 18:53you get us started with our rough SYNOPSI sure. Kat Stratford is beautiful and
- 19:00quite abrasive to most of her fellow teens, meaning that she doesn't attract many
- 19:03boys. Unfortunately for her younger sister, Bianca, house rules say that she
- 19:08can't date until Kat has a boyfriend, so strings are pulled to set the
- 19:14dour damsel up for a romance. Soon, Kat crosses paths with handsome new
- 19:18arrival Patrick Verona. Will Kat let her guard down enough to fall for the
- 19:23effortless least for the effortlessly charming Patrick. Almost did it? You almost almost
- 19:33did it. It's it's extra ironically mean to screw up on effortlesslylessly. It's
- 19:37rude, it's rude. Really, you did great, thank you. I
- 19:42loved it. I loved everything. Thank you. Let's go to rotten to
- 19:45bottles and here they have to say. Critics have it coming in at a
- 19:48pretty good seventy one percent. Seventy one not terrible, no for like a
- 19:55teen Yeah. Come, I am a little surprised by audience members they have.
- 20:00Hopefully they just went for the joke, because it's at sixty nine percent.
- 20:04Yeah, that must have been in right, because I get obviously people.
- 20:08Yeah, it is kind of surprising. I'm surprised by that, but
- 20:12I guess we can get into that right now as we talk about our hot
- 20:15take. Hot take, O bicy that's a hot take. That's a hot
- 20:22take. My heart is a fire. It seems like a Shakespeare thing.
- 20:26I don't think it is, but it should be. Yeah, if it's
- 20:30not bubble, bubble, toil and trouble, fire, burn and hot takes,
- 20:33bubble, Okay, okay, I will go first and get away from
- 20:37that as quickly as possible. I love this movie a ton. It's been
- 20:42one of my one of my faves since it came out. I just have
- 20:47a ton of great memories about it, you know me. I love a
- 20:51rom com anyway, but like a teen centered rom come about high school where
- 20:56they're obviously like a little older than high school, and you get in sort
- 21:02of the like the Taming of the Shrew, you know, stuff where it's
- 21:04like you have the sister dynamics and you have like the feminism stuff you know,
- 21:10rolled in there. I think that's really fun. Man, this movie,
- 21:15I think you said it. I was like, I can't believe this
- 21:17movie is that old, and you were like, just wait till you watch
- 21:18it. You'll believe it. Believe it, and totally, dude, this
- 21:22feels like a nineties time capsule in a big way and not a bad way,
- 21:29just like, wow, this is It's pretty crazy to see the music
- 21:33in it, I think is really fun. That's sort of like that pop
- 21:37music but also like punky stuff that's go, that's yeah. That's a much
- 21:44better way of saying yeah, Scott. And like lady bands or like lady
- 21:48front front singers and all that stuff, which is really cool. And I
- 21:52really actually dig a lot of the tunes that are in this. I think
- 21:53they're really fun and I think the actors are all great. I think there's
- 21:59some fun love story stuff in here. I think the I don't know.
- 22:03I just think all of it's really great. I love it all. I
- 22:06think it's super fun and uh, you know, I I don't know.
- 22:11I guess my hottest take is a Crumbles is a He's just a gem.
- 22:15I love him so much. It's good in all these like he rolls with
- 22:19the punches so well in this movie, and it cracks me up so hard.
- 22:23But yeah, I don't really have a very hot take. So that's
- 22:26my hottest take. I love it all, right, hot take buddy of
- 22:32one there. Yeah, well I thought this was pretty fun. I remember
- 22:38my sister being really into this movie. Yeah, but I only saw it
- 22:42like once or twice back in the day. Sure it is directed by Gil
- 22:48Younger maybe Younger maybe it's a soft j who directed a ton of TV but
- 22:55very few movies. This is this is his big, big movie. Karen
- 23:00McCullough and Kirsten Smith wrote it, and they also went on to write Legally
- 23:04Blonde, which is a very very bad wild Yeah. They also did Ellen
- 23:11Chanted, She's the Man, the House Bunny, and The Ugly Truth.
- 23:14So they did a lot of a lot of just kind of silly comedies.
- 23:18Yeah, love it and I enjoyed it on this rewatch and it was so
- 23:23fun to see so many of these actors that are so young still working today.
- 23:29This is a good one to be like, oh they started here.
- 23:32Wow, Like you said, it's based on Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew,
- 23:37and they throw out some blatant Shakespeare stuff throughout little tidbits. And I know
- 23:42that I didn't notice it back in nineteen ninety nine, right, No,
- 23:47sure, the school is named Padua Patrick Verona's is he Fledger's last name Kat
- 23:53Stratford? Well, both Kat and Beyonca, and I think those are the
- 23:59sister's name, right, yeah, shrew, but just Stratford and David Crumholts
- 24:04actually refers to Kat Stratford as the Shrew at one point. Ye, so
- 24:10they weren't They weren't hiding it. I agreed, just that the music is
- 24:15just straight out of the night, like it's a nineties Times capsule. So
- 24:19fun. But yeah, I thought pretty much the exact same take. I
- 24:25thought it was a good time. It's a fun teen rom com with the
- 24:27very impressive group of young actors. I did see that the house that the
- 24:34Stratford's lived in ya just went up for sale on Zillo not too long ago,
- 24:40and it sold for like two million dollars. I mean it was nice.
- 24:44Was it that nice? Yeah? I definitely went to Zillo and checked
- 24:48it out. Pretty nice, pretty nice, Yeah it was. It was
- 24:52nice, cool, good square footage. It's right there in Tacoma. Oh
- 24:56yeah, that's good prime locale. Oh yeah, p yeah, I love
- 25:00it. But yeah, I don't have a hot take either. I know.
- 25:03Yeah, it's a hard one to have a hot take about. Yeah,
- 25:06I don't know. All right, well let's see if we've got a
- 25:10hot take about the dude. Let's name our favorite acting performance the dude.
- 25:15I'm the dude, So that's what you call me, you know that,
- 25:18or his dude or duder or you know, el dudo reno. If you're
- 25:25not into the whole brevity thing, you want to go first, Sure,
- 25:30I do want to go first. I want to say Heath Ledger. He
- 25:36Fledger as Patrick Farona. It's pretty great. I was very glad they brought
- 25:40up his accent, yes, because I was like, what if they just
- 25:42would have ignored it? So awkward, so weird. So that was nice
- 25:48and good call. It was a good call on their part. He was
- 25:52taking me out of it for a while, but then I was like,
- 25:55oh, they did it. Yeah. But yeah, I thought he was
- 25:59He was funn He was a misunderstood guy that let people believe the crazy rumors
- 26:03about him totally. It's kind of fun. I thought he was funny and
- 26:07charming. And this was kind of like like, oh, we have a
- 26:12new heart throb in town, and it's it's he Fledger thousand. Yeah.
- 26:18And then he went on to just be so incredibly talented. He really did.
- 26:22Yeah. Yeah. This was his first American movie. I think was
- 26:25one of the pieces of trivia I saw, which is pretty crazy. That's
- 26:29a great pick, buddy. I actually picked him as well, so we
- 26:33are same. He's on that one all pretty much all the same reasons I
- 26:36thought. He you know, I love that. I love that kind of
- 26:41character archetype where it's like I don't really care, I'm too cool for this,
- 26:45but like he does care, you know what I mean, and like
- 26:48wants to do the right thing and is actually a pretty cool guy and whatever.
- 26:52One of my favorite things I'd never noticed before but is when they tell
- 26:56him to go to the that club where will be watching that band, yeah,
- 27:02Skunk, and he's like, I can't be seen there, like I
- 27:03have a reputation. But then the bartender like knows him really well. He's
- 27:07like, what are you doing here tonight? You know, and like all
- 27:11that. So it's like I'd never noticed that before. I took that as
- 27:14being like, oh, he does go there, and that's why he knows
- 27:18about those other bands, and you know, so they actually do have things
- 27:21in common, which I thought was a nice little time. I thought I
- 27:23just assumed he like he was bringing up those other well, he knew him
- 27:29as the bartender, he just knew him outside of there. And then the
- 27:33as far as the other bands, that was Joseph. Course, Levitt's character
- 27:37gave him the list of CDs that she owned and posters under wall. Yeah,
- 27:45I thought he was using that inside info. But I like your take
- 27:48on it better than that. I just think it's kind of I think it's
- 27:49fun too. I think you're right, that's the most logical, But I
- 27:53like to add I put a little you know, headcannon in there for myself
- 27:57of that, I thought that was fun, but basically all the same things
- 28:02you said. I just thought he's so charming in this and he's obviously such
- 28:06a cutie pie and just like you know, you just want him to hug.
- 28:10Yeah, he's just so cute. Oh yeah, yeah, Well he
- 28:15was great. I felt like Julius Styles is the other lead, and I
- 28:22didn't think she she got to do a lot, But at the same time,
- 28:26it didn't feel like she did a lot. I don't know. I
- 28:27think she's really good, so maybe it was just I was hoping for more
- 28:32or something. That character felt a little one noteye to me. Yeah,
- 28:37until yeah, until until she starts feeling totally. I really wanted her to
- 28:45like do something for her sister earlier, to just look, you know,
- 28:48take one for the team a little bit earlier too, but you know,
- 28:52there was obviously conflict in there and all that good stuff. So for sure,
- 28:57But yeah, I think I picked Eith, Yeah for sure. Well
- 29:02why don't we talk about some of these supporting actors, a lot of good
- 29:03ones to choose. Yeah, let's pick the two. JH. I feel
- 29:08like I know who you're gonna take, and I think I did as well.
- 29:11But what do you think it's gotta be Krumholtz. Oh man, I
- 29:15was debating on I know, I almost as the dude, but I just
- 29:19I didn't know if he was quite in it enough. I think he's so
- 29:22funny. I love the side plot that like I used to be their king
- 29:26and then he's like trying to get back at Bogie Lownstein and all that stuff,
- 29:30and like it's so fun. I love that. But he just like
- 29:33I said, he he rolls with the punches so well, you know,
- 29:38with all these people like kind of giving him a hard time. But he's
- 29:41also like he's pretty cool in his own way, just not like high school
- 29:47cool or something. I don't know, Like that's the kind of character.
- 29:49I feel like he's cool because he owns it. He knows who he is.
- 29:53He's like, yeah, and that's what I'm about. You know,
- 29:56I'm a kind of a nerdy guy and I'm gonna own it and that is
- 30:00cool. Yeah. And he's obviously like a nice friend and you know,
- 30:04thoughtful and all that stuff and really smart. So yeah, I even got
- 30:08he got the cute nerdy Shakespearean lady in the end, and she's like just
- 30:14the cutest, she's so great cute. But I loved. Yeah, I
- 30:17just loved all that. I thought it was so fun. And he's just
- 30:19a good friend, you know, which goes a long way for me and
- 30:22like everything ever, So yeah, I think i'd pick him as my first
- 30:26lots of runners up, how about you. Yeah, he made this movie
- 30:30for me totally, And you know, we just keep doing Crumbholtz movies.
- 30:34If crumbhold is in it, we're doing. We celebrate his whole catalog,
- 30:38We really do. My runner up was kind of tough, you know what.
- 30:45I think my runner up is actually Larry Miller as Walter Stratford. God,
- 30:49he's being funny in every line that comes out of his mouth makes me
- 30:53laugh. Yeah, he had some of my favorite lines. I loved how
- 30:59over detective he was of his girls. He's just trying to be a good
- 31:03dad. It probably hits more now than I'm a dad to that same thing
- 31:06though. I was like, oh, I'm identifying much more with him now,
- 31:10Yeah, big time. But I've always enjoyed him. I've always loved
- 31:14his delivery. He's just kind of it's very sarcastic, dry delivery. I
- 31:19think he's wonderful. Agree, I got to look up because he's a comedian
- 31:23like a stand up and I haven't really seen any of his stand up.
- 31:26I don't think I knew that. That's cool. I want to go back
- 31:30and like find some of that because I think I would really enjoy it.
- 31:33But yeah, it seems like he be my runner up. I love that.
- 31:37That's a great runner up. Let's talk about Joseph Gordon Levitt, who
- 31:40is just just a little baby in this. Yeah. I just thought he
- 31:45was delightful. He was very very charming, very sweet, you know,
- 31:49had a good attitude. H Yeah, I don't know. I thought he
- 31:53was great. And I liked Larissa alayanick yep Olaynic. I guess that's At
- 32:00first I thought it's at a Lenniac like Erica, but that's I think that's
- 32:05Erica eleneac right or something like. It's a different understand my brain rewind play.
- 32:14Yeah, but I thought both of them together actually were very cute.
- 32:19Obviously starting off not on the same page, quite like she's kind of using
- 32:24him for a minute, you know, and in at least tacitly, but
- 32:29I think more overtly than that. But they they grow to like really like
- 32:34each other and get along and stuff, and I think that's pretty fun.
- 32:36I liked it, and everybody had a big crush on her, so she
- 32:38had to be totally and you know, you had to understand why people would
- 32:44be going through all that kind of trouble, yes, you know, and
- 32:47that's she pulled that off well. And she's all that also, which so
- 32:54I guess that's also based off the Taming of the Shop maybe at least a
- 32:59little bit or something. I feel like I didn't see that, but now
- 33:00that I think about it, it's similar. I mean the whole gist of
- 33:05the plot is pretty similar, right right, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 33:08I love that now that what you're saying that it makes me think of that
- 33:13Patrick Dempsey one back and then what was that Can't Buy Me Love? Wasn't
- 33:15that kind of Oh yeah, similar vibe too kind of Nah, it's not
- 33:21as as she's all that, but anyway, sorry, I do so many
- 33:24other people I didn't like write down stuff. But so great having Alison Janny
- 33:30in there. She was such a fun. She's the best side character.
- 33:34She's in it for like four minutes total too, but I love her so
- 33:38much. But every every time she's on there, she crushes great that Andrew
- 33:44Keegan Kid was good. He was so wonderfully hat heble. Yeah, yeah,
- 33:49he was great. I liked him a lot. He was great.
- 33:51That Darryl Chill Mitchell as the teacher. Darryl Chill. Oh yeah, that
- 33:58guy was good teacher. Yeah, yeah, I liked him. He has
- 34:01been around a little while. He was actually right as well. I think
- 34:05maybe maybe not sorry, yeah, I mean definitely actor. But he he
- 34:10was at a showcase with Home Free, like before the sing off. Cool
- 34:15and so like we have a picture with him, we met met him that
- 34:17he was doing like speaking because he had been in an accident that left him
- 34:22in a wheelchair, and so he's like a public speaker. That's cool.
- 34:28Yeah, I mean, yeah, you know, but right, I know
- 34:30he's making the best of the situation. I bet those speeches are great,
- 34:35like inspirational. And he's probably very funny. He seems really funny anyway,
- 34:38So I bet he's really so funny in this man. Ye, yeah,
- 34:42he's so funny. The other teacher is also funny. That David Leisure David
- 34:45Leisure from Empty Nest. Do you remember that show? Back in the day,
- 34:50I was like trying to figure out what I knew him from, and
- 34:52it was empty nest and then he's the like the Harry Krishna guy in Airplane.
- 35:00Oh funny. At one point he's got a shaved head. I mean,
- 35:02I looked this up. I didn't pull this. I looked it up
- 35:06and I was like, because it says like I can't remember what it.
- 35:08I think it just says like a Krishna follower or something as character named.
- 35:13I was like, oh my god, that is him, and he's so
- 35:15obviously so young in it. And yeah, but he's so I'm gonna say
- 35:19it doesn't seem old enough. But yeah, but he's so funny in this
- 35:22when he takes like the weed and then he's like these two to the cheetos,
- 35:27Like that's right, it's so great. I love that. Yeah,
- 35:30but he's really the infamous detention scene. Yes, yes, just probably yeah,
- 35:37kind of problematic. Yeah, it's I mean, she he didn't do
- 35:40anything wrong. She does it so like he does it. Yeah, there's
- 35:44some agency there. Yeah, but it's it's weird. Yeah, it's very
- 35:46weird. But it was wonderful seeing Gabrielle Union, who has just been so
- 35:53beautiful forever, forever and ever. Yeah, she didn't I did not remember
- 36:00she was the friend me neither, I did not even a little, And
- 36:04I was like, oh wow, I thought the first time I saw her
- 36:06was bringing On back in the day, but yeah, I was wrong,
- 36:09incorrect, and then bring it on before this it probably was right around this
- 36:16good question looking, searching, looking bringing And the only other person I was
- 36:21going to say was that Shakespearean woman, that Susan May Pratt. You're still
- 36:25doing stuff. I thought she was good. I liked her. She didn't
- 36:29good to do much either. Bringing On is the next year, so it's
- 36:30two thousand year okay, which makes sense. She had a bigger part in
- 36:35that, right, So yeah, so that's awesome. That was all I
- 36:40put down. Did you have anybody else you wanted to mention? Yeah,
- 36:43thinks I think we hit every maybe Kyle c Spogey Lowenstein just because he's he's
- 36:50really funny. He's just like a nerdy totally do she got but but he's
- 36:57really good at it, so that must be Andrew. I love that line
- 37:01so much. I did not really, I mean, did that happen in
- 37:07high school? Was anybody like that? Maybe? Who knows? Certainly not.
- 37:10In the debt, a lot of the extreme characters, I feel like
- 37:16right, there just wasn't enough people to get those sort of outliers. Yeah,
- 37:22that was silly that the big clicks where there was like actual people like
- 37:29doing rodeo stuff and like they had these Yeah, those those were like a
- 37:34college thing to me than a high school thing. But I don't know,
- 37:38I guess I really just don't know. Though. It's so you did a
- 37:42rastafarians like that. It was too much. It was too much. They
- 37:46really only did it that one scene and then they kind of, I mean
- 37:51the characters came around again, but not I think they agreed because they never
- 37:55kind of came back to that. I feel like, right, I mean
- 37:59he's going going through he's showing them all the clicks kind of like in Mean
- 38:01Girl. Yes, totally the same sort of scene. But yeah, they
- 38:06were too too silly and too silly. Yeah, maybe that's my hottest take.
- 38:12Yeah, that's a good one. I have a hot take. But
- 38:17there's there are some really fun scenes in this. I think maybe we should
- 38:20go and pick our favorite one. Let's choose the dingus so is quite simple,
- 38:27really ingus dingus. I can talk about my dingas all night long with
- 38:31a segue like that, Why don't you go first, buddy. That was
- 38:35beautiful, amazing, rightious. I think when I think of this film,
- 38:39Yeah, it was hard picking a scene, but when I think of this
- 38:44film, it's the iconic You're just too good to be true gets the band
- 38:50to play that song for cat. He goes and gets the mic and sings
- 38:57and it's getting chased by the security and it's so charming. So o c
- 39:02Yeah, and it wasn't bad either, like he can carry a tune,
- 39:07for sure. It wasn't good amazing, but it really worked for this movie.
- 39:12I thought, Yeah, totally, very memorable. Totally agree. Also,
- 39:16the the leader of the band and that marching band or the actual school
- 39:22marching band from the school where they recorded like all the all the stuff,
- 39:28that's crazy. Yeah, so they just had them actually do it and that
- 39:30that's so cool. The kid with like the stash or whatever that he like
- 39:34gives the money to, he's the actual like I don't know what even what
- 39:37do you call them, like a marshal of the marching band or something like
- 39:40the drum manger. I guess I don't We didn't do marching band, so
- 39:44I don't know anything about that lead ahead person was the drum Okay, So
- 39:49yeah, he was like, that's actually what he did, which is kind
- 39:52of funny. So that is I got to like have a part which is
- 39:54fun. I love that. I love that when they get a local guy
- 39:58like that, it's so fun. Yeah, so great. But yeah,
- 40:02I totally agree. That's the scene I think of first with this movie.
- 40:07I just think it's so charming, and it like it's one of those scenes
- 40:10that if it's not charming, like if it doesn't work, it really doesn't
- 40:15work, right, But I think it totally does. And I don't think
- 40:21that's just because I love rom coms no matter what, you know, Like,
- 40:24I really just think that one actually works. I think because you add
- 40:29the like him getting chased by the security they're not getting him. He even
- 40:34like slaps one of their butts. I feel like that every time he slaps
- 40:37the chubby guy on the butt and seeing the reactions from everybody and she's like
- 40:43giggling, and that's a turning point. And yeah, it worked, because
- 40:47yeah, sometimes those singing scenes can just be crite. Yeah yeah, and
- 40:52it was like good enough that it was pleasing to listen to, but also
- 40:57felt like he was really doing it too, so that makes a difference,
- 41:00probably to us more than other people, But you know whatever, I just
- 41:05think that scene is really fun, So I'm with you on that. If
- 41:07I had to pick a runner up, it's that entire party scene where Kat
- 41:13goes to the party and Bianca gets to go. Then right, she gets
- 41:16super drunk because she's mad. Then she starts dancing, she like hits her
- 41:22head and we get to see them like be sweet to each other and you
- 41:25know, like it's just a nice moment or whatever, and she finds out
- 41:30that like, Heath's not a terrible dude. But my favorite part of that
- 41:35is Bianca finding out that the the dream dude is like just a douche.
- 41:40It's just boring, and the difference, that whole thing, I just think
- 41:47it's so funny. But I love that whole that whole thing. Again,
- 41:52we didn't have parties like that in high school that well, at least I
- 41:55wasn't invited. If we did so, I don't know, but but it
- 42:00was it was fun. I really liked that scene. That was cool.
- 42:04Yeah. The other scene that I think about is just that poem reading at
- 42:08the end, yes, showing how vulnerable she is, and it was the
- 42:15ten things I hate about you. Yeah, that's nice. I mean,
- 42:19I definitely think about that. And one that surprised me and touched me was
- 42:28the Larry Miller saying that she's had him on the bench for years and at
- 42:35least Bianca lets him play a few innings or whatever. Yeah, it's like
- 42:38the first time. He's like, no, I'm glad she's being more like
- 42:42you and all that. Yeah. Love that's he doesn't want her to go
- 42:46to that college because he won't even be able to be in the game anymore,
- 42:50but obviously he's going to because he knows she wants to so badly and
- 42:52all that. Yeah, I love that. I really enjoyed that scene.
- 42:57That was a good scene. Yeah, that is really good. I also
- 43:00loved it when they're telling Heath Ledger about a pau Julius Styles's character in the
- 43:07bar. They're like, he's just like in a bar drinking beer as a
- 43:12high schooler and they go in there and whatever, and he's like, there's
- 43:15only one problem. She likes pretty guys, and that like in her actual
- 43:21he's like saying saying, I'm not a pretty guy. Like, no,
- 43:23he's a beautiful guy. He's a great you know, like that whole thing.
- 43:27It was really cracking me up. And then he's got like the she
- 43:30has black underwear if that helps, you know, like that whole thing.
- 43:35Yeah, they don't know. Yeah. I just thought that was really funny.
- 43:37I liked the little repartee. But I'm cool with the football field being
- 43:44uh being our scene. That's what the dingus. I think. I think
- 43:46you got a nice love it. Well, let's go on and talk about
- 43:50some of these quotes. It's time to show me the money show. There's
- 44:00a few for it. I think I started with the scene for it.
- 44:07Ellison Janny, same little witch for brains. Everywhere. He just comes out
- 44:13charging and I loved it. It's really great. Uh. The teacher that
- 44:16you talked about, he's like, someday you're gonna get bitch slapped and I'm
- 44:20not going to do a thing to stop. I enjoyed all that. He
- 44:24was so funny. I love it. Let's see also when he goes on
- 44:30the the like dirt bike crumbholts down the hill. Love that he just screams
- 44:37out my balls balls agreed. I just died every time. I too,
- 44:43I actually laughed out loud. I think it's just so funny. My balls
- 44:47screaming out my balls is pretty good. God, it's so funny. A
- 44:53line I always think of in this movie is we are We're screwed, and
- 44:59he's like, hey, no, I don't want to hear that defeat a
- 45:00stattitude. I want to hear you upbeat. And he's like, we're screwed.
- 45:05There you go, there you go. Yeah. I just love that.
- 45:08Yeah, that's a good line. That's so fun. Why don't you
- 45:13say a couple before I take them all? I don't know how many you
- 45:15have. I actually wrote quite a few hours surprise, go for it.
- 45:19I wrote a lot of the the Walter Stratford, the Larry Miller lines,
- 45:23good because I feel like I didn't get all those. Okay cool. At
- 45:30one point, he says, and I'll get to sleep at night, the
- 45:32deep slumber of a father whose daughters aren't out being impregnated. I thought that
- 45:38was pretty one. The belly belly, Yes, do you know what happens
- 45:46at proms? Yes, we'll dance, we'll kiss, we'll come home.
- 45:50It's not quite the crisis situation you imagine. Kissing that's what you think happens.
- 45:53I've got news for your kissing. Is that what keeps me up to
- 45:55my elbows in placenta all day long? Great in this movie, I think
- 46:02it's right at the same time where he's like, mister Strapford, it's just
- 46:06a party and hell is just a sauna. Yes, yes, it's so
- 46:10good. I had that one as well. Oh, I've one that also
- 46:16cracked me up. Was when they're looking for someone who will date Katerina and
- 46:22one guy says, maybe if we were the last two people alive and there
- 46:27were no sheep, are there the sheep? Yeah? That line is great.
- 46:31That was good. I've never been that ripped man. Yeah, yeah,
- 46:37that was good. H Heath Ledger's character is that? What is it
- 46:42with this chick? She have beer flavored nipples? Yes? I enjoyed that
- 46:45so good. This morning I delivered a set of twins to a fifteen year
- 46:52old girl. Do you know what she said to me? I'm a crackherr
- 46:54who should have made my skeezy boyfriend wear a condom close? But no,
- 46:58she said, I should have listened to my father. She did not.
- 47:02Well, that's what she would have said if she wasn't so doped up.
- 47:07He's a gem, He's wonderful. Oh and The one that really made me
- 47:13remember that my sister enjoyed this movie was because she would do this line all
- 47:21the time. So Patrick says, well, maybe you're not afraid of me,
- 47:23but I'm sure you've thought about me naked. Huh, And she says,
- 47:27am I that transparent? I want you, I need you, oh
- 47:30baby, o baby byes and she would say that I want you, I
- 47:34need you, oh baby, oh baby all the time. I feel like
- 47:37we've quoted that to each other and it might have even been one of our
- 47:40first like oh we're friends now, yeah, everyone has been around and I
- 47:47forgot it was from this. It brought me right back though. That's like
- 47:52the whole catalog thing. I forgot that was from Office Space. And I
- 47:54was like, I say that all the time all the time. Oh my
- 47:58god, yeah, so great. Why don't you say some more? Man?
- 48:01Yeah. I love when when the teacher again in the classroom, is
- 48:07like, so, you guys are all gonna write a poem based on this
- 48:10sonnet or whatever, and she's like he's like, yes, miss, someone
- 48:14has an opinion about everything. And she's like, do you want it an
- 48:16iambic pentameter And he's just like, you're not gonna fight me on this,
- 48:21and she's like, no, I think it's a really cool assignment. You're
- 48:22not gonna say something else, something snotty or whatever. He's like, no,
- 48:24I'm really looking forward to writing it. Get out of my class.
- 48:28Gone. He's not entertaining that at all. He's just like, I don't
- 48:35trust you. I feel like you're making fun of me, you know whatever.
- 48:37It's just that really cracks me up. When Verona is like, don't
- 48:43say like that to me. People can hear you, and then JG like
- 48:47sacrifice your dignity on the altar of apology, and then Crumholtz is like,
- 48:52listen, don't say like that to him. People can he I just love
- 48:55that little scene. It was cracking me up. After she after Bianca punches
- 49:01god, what is his name, Joey or something that Andrew? Yeah,
- 49:07okay, it is Joey. Okay. After she punches Joey at the dance,
- 49:10she's like, Bianca, I'm shooting a not spray ad tomorrow. That
- 49:15line reading has always cracked me up. I think he just nails it.
- 49:20I'm shooting a note spray out tomorrow. I also love when they're sitting at
- 49:27the table and he's drawing a penis on his face, you know, like
- 49:30that whole thing, which is so funny. And then he's just like sitting
- 49:34there and he comes back over and he's like, yeah, yeah, I
- 49:36went pretty well, and he's like, I have a dick on my face,
- 49:38don't I Yeah, just so perfect. I kind of hate that after
- 49:45he's done talking to those guys, he's like going like this. I was
- 49:49like, what are we doing? He get out of there, guy,
- 49:51get out of here? You did it? Get out? I love that.
- 49:57That's a loved one. Kat Is like I still maintained that he kicked
- 50:00himself in the balls. Yeah, which is so great. I was joking
- 50:07with the lunch lady it was a brought worst, a broughtwurst. Aren't we
- 50:12optimist? And then she changes out pulsating member to pulsating Broadhurst. Oh my
- 50:19goodness. M oh and this one, this might be the quote of the
- 50:23movie. I should have said it earlier. I know you can be overwhelmed
- 50:28and you can be underwhelmed, but can you ever just be whelmed? I
- 50:31think you can in Europe. Yeah, I love that so much. That's
- 50:37such a clueless line to me, Like it is so the exact same thing.
- 50:40Yeah, right, like big time. Oh man, that made me
- 50:46laugh my balls. That made me laugh so hard. When the dad says,
- 50:53where's your sister going and Katsa, she's meeting some bikers, big ones,
- 50:58full of spur, full of spur. Yeah, I did love that.
- 51:02That was pretty good. Also when he when bogie they're in the house
- 51:07and the guys start fighting. You guys please take it outside, crash through
- 51:13the window thing so dumb. Yes, must be Nigel with the breed with
- 51:21the breen so dumb. I love it. I love it. Ridiculous.
- 51:27I think that was all the ones I wrote down. Yeah, I feel
- 51:30like you have to say just the end of the poem when she's just But
- 51:34mostly I hate the way I don't hate you. Yeah, not even close,
- 51:37not even a little bit, not even at all. I may have
- 51:40I may have kept that for the boohoo moments. But yes, questions race,
- 51:51Yeah, I like it. I'm with you. Cool. Yeah,
- 51:54let's uh, let's go to bugs boom moments. Strong men also cry strong
- 52:05men, also the crying game. I picked three love it. I said
- 52:14when her dad tells her she's going to Sarah Lawrence, That scene that I
- 52:16had talked to you about the few innings on the bench. That really got
- 52:21me. I loved that great ye the poem reading that we just mentioned.
- 52:29Yeah, that scene is great. I really like it. And then and
- 52:36this might might not be one, but when he got I think the band
- 52:42is called Letters to Cleo, when he got the band to come to the
- 52:45prom y to sing for her, Yep, that got me. She has
- 52:51that moment of like oh my god, and like yeah, and it's so
- 52:54dumb. They never actually said their name. Yeah, because the age,
- 53:00you're like, please, you have to say our name. I mean she
- 53:04even was like, oh my god, you got yeah, please you have
- 53:07to say the name. I just imagine Luke for you guys, just being
- 53:13like we have to say the damn it please. But they really featured them
- 53:21a lot, and I wasn't familiar with that band at all. Dude.
- 53:22How about that shot at the end up off the building that looks terrifying.
- 53:29Yeah, I would have been scared. I know, it looked really high
- 53:34up there, and honestly it didn't look very big. It was so small.
- 53:39Yeah. Yeah, I think I do have some trivia about it in
- 53:43a little bit, but okay, but man, yeah, because like,
- 53:45you know, the Beatles did that, the whole thing up on the roof,
- 53:50but you didn't feel as nervous as you did. It also looked like
- 53:53it was way higher, way high to me. Yeah, I don't know.
- 53:59That freaked me out. I was like I would have said, no,
- 54:02yeah, no, thanks, But I guess maybe not. I don't
- 54:06know. Well, the exposure is pretty huge. Did you have more than
- 54:09three? No, you nailed it. Sorry, I never even said that.
- 54:13You crushed it like a grape. You're a hero, boom boom,
- 54:17You're handsome. Movie, you smell good. Thank you. Yeah, No,
- 54:22you nailed it, buddy, good work, awesome. Three is less
- 54:25than I would have thought. But there's not like a ton of cry cry
- 54:29spots in this film, which is interesting. There's like a lot of very
- 54:32silly, funny parts of this movie. It was fun. Agreed. I
- 54:37actually laughed a little bit. Yeah, my balls movie trivia. No sets
- 54:45were used during this During the entire filming of this movie, it was all
- 54:49shot using real locations, which is pretty cool and can't be that common.
- 54:53I can't imagine, right, maybe yeah, I don't know, I can't
- 54:58really picture. You know, there's those movies where like the Bond movies or
- 55:04the Bourne movies where they're just always going to other places. But they probably
- 55:08do a lot of the indoor stuff at like a stage, especially when they're
- 55:13gonna like blow stuff up, and when I suppose yeah, yeah, I
- 55:16don't know. Anyway, that is interesting. I don't know. I thought
- 55:20that was fun. Let's see. David Crumholtz, who plays Michael in the
- 55:23film, wrote a piece for Vulture explaining why he thought the movie worked so
- 55:28well. He stated that the entire cast became fast friends, and he says,
- 55:32Joseph Gordon Levitt turned me on too, Fish. I turned him onto
- 55:36Wu Tang Clan, Fish, the band, Yes, yeah, Fish,
- 55:37the band pH Sorry, Fish, and Gabrielle Union had us in stitches.
- 55:45He says. Julius Styles brought her own brand of Soho bred artistic and intellectualism
- 55:51at only seventeen, mind you, Larissa Lenius. Laughter filled the room,
- 55:55and we marveled at the tonedness of Andrew Keegan's muscles. And he was a
- 56:00great sport. And apparently filming began without Heath Ledger, and so the cast
- 56:07that was getting along so well worried, how you know, him coming in
- 56:10would change the dynamic, but jell, Yeah, they said that it was
- 56:14a concern that was remedied a few days later when he arrived and we found
- 56:17yet another comrade and sensibility. The group with Heath only got stronger before I
- 56:22knew it. The cast was experienced what I've since found to be all too
- 56:25rare, a unified chemistry throughout the ensemble without a single bad apple in the
- 56:30bunch. We all agreed that we were having the best summer of our lives.
- 56:35But I think it was just, I don't know, it's fun.
- 56:37I feel like we hear most often when it's like this person was a nightmare
- 56:42to deal with it, So, you know, kind of fun to hear
- 56:44about this. And maybe that's why this movie's so great, because they all
- 56:47were getting along really well. I don't know, but was so Heath Ledger's
- 56:53part must have been cast last or something, or they were having a hard
- 56:57time finding a Patrick, maybe because it was his first movie in America.
- 57:02Maybe it was like a visa thing or something. Maybe I don't know.
- 57:07And they had a bunch of scenes without him right early on a lot,
- 57:12so yeah, so I guess they just worked around it. I don't know,
- 57:15it didn't say any more than that, I guess, so I don't
- 57:17know why, but yeah, it's a good question. The school used in
- 57:21the film was the Stadium High School, located in Tacoma, Washington. The
- 57:25school was first built as a grand chateau style railroad station hotel, but after
- 57:30it suffered fire damage, it was renovated into a high school. So that's
- 57:34why it looks so cool. Just kind of neat, Yeah, cool,
- 57:38let's see. In an interview with Pop Dose Letters to Cleo, lead singer
- 57:45Kay Hanley said that they had to perform their song on a patch of roof
- 57:50the size of Hanley's kitchen on a windy day, and apparently they told him
- 57:54this is a helicopter shot and it costs five hundred thousand dollars every time the
- 58:00helicopter has to take off, so don't this up. And we started playing
- 58:05We saw the Hell, which part that is half a million dollars for the
- 58:12helicopter to get up. Yeah, I don't know, that's what it says.
- 58:15Every time it takes off, it's five hundred thousand, shocking. That
- 58:17is shocking, shocking. So that's a shocking number. Needless to say,
- 58:21they were like, don't screw this up. But they said, we saw
- 58:24the We started playing and saw the helicopter up here, way off in the
- 58:30distance. And it's hard to say how far it was away at first because
- 58:32we were so high up in the air. But then all of a sudden,
- 58:36apparently the helicopter does this dive bomb directly toward us. Is the helicopter
- 58:39out of control? Is it? Is it supposed to be coming at us
- 58:43like this? I'm thinking, And then she says all I could. All
- 58:45I thought was, don't this up. Keep singing the song. Don't dis
- 58:49up. It costs five hundred grand every time. Wow, man, that's
- 58:52crazy. But they said it was very scary but turned out to be a
- 58:55great shot. And it is a pretty great shot. But is it worth
- 59:00half a meal? No, No, it's the credits. Especially now right
- 59:06now, it's like, well, we'll pay to put a drone up there,
- 59:09you know, Oh my gosh, But you know what I mean,
- 59:15Well, it's not five hundred thousand, that's for sure. It would be
- 59:17a hell of a drone. But yeah, I just thought that was really
- 59:21funny. Uh So. Several names reflect the Shakespearean origin and the Taming of
- 59:27the Shrew. Bianca and Cat's last name Stratford, which you said they were
- 59:30born in Stratford upon Avon Patrick's last name Verona, the birst birthplace of Patuccio,
- 59:37the corresponding character from the play The High School Padua or Padua Sorry,
- 59:45in which it's set. And then Katerina and Bianca. So you nailed that,
- 59:49buddy, good work. Yeah, well, and just him actually calling
- 59:52her the shrew. Yes, so fun, Yeah, so fun and great.
- 59:57I loved to the ta dance scene is what led to Julius Styles landing
- 1:00:02the lead role and saved the Last Dance, which was two years later.
- 1:00:06That one I thought that was funny. Cruel to be kind is from the
- 1:00:12song lyric is our actual reference to the a line from Hamlet, which is
- 1:00:16kind of fun and fitting that. I liked that song a lot. It
- 1:00:21was really neat. We already said that. The screenwriters Karen McCullough and Kirsten
- 1:00:27Smith, this was their first screenplay. They went on to write Legally Blonde
- 1:00:30and House Bunny, both pretty fun. Legally Blonde great, that's funny,
- 1:00:37kind of underrated. Actually kind of liked that movie. It was better than
- 1:00:39I thought. It was fun for sure. Yeah, that's the best way
- 1:00:43to say it. For sure. I always thought Anna Faris was really funny,
- 1:00:45so it's like, I'll watch this, and then I was like,
- 1:00:46oh, this is actually actually have some yeah, fun characters like Emma Stone
- 1:00:52was in It was surprising and yeah, yeah, yeah, no, I
- 1:00:54totally agree. The scene in which Kat reads the Ten Things poem was the
- 1:01:00first and only take they took, according to the DVD extras. Wow,
- 1:01:04and her tears at the end of the poem were real and weren't planned.
- 1:01:07So she started crying and finished, and they were just like, well,
- 1:01:10I think we got it, so I don't think we're gonna get better than
- 1:01:14that, which is pretty wild. I thought that was fun. Joseph Gordon
- 1:01:19Levitt's character learns French in order to tutor Bianca, but he speaks French fluently,
- 1:01:24which I think is fun so kind of nice. And apparently Andrew Keegan,
- 1:01:31my last one, Andrew Keegan didn't know how to draw genitals for the
- 1:01:35scene, so David Crumholts had to teach him how to draw the genitals on
- 1:01:40his face. That's funny. That's a funny thing. Like he was like,
- 1:01:46I don't know how to do it. What do you mean, you
- 1:01:47don't know how to do it just draw. But another way that Crumbholts really
- 1:01:52held this thing together. He really did. He really did make the movie
- 1:01:57for me. That was all the ones I had. Did you have any
- 1:02:00extras? I had one fun one just said. Heath Ledger beat out Minnesota's
- 1:02:05own Josh Hartnett and Ashton Kutcher for the role of Patrick. Wow, that's
- 1:02:10pretty cool. Yeah. I feel like both those guys probably could have done
- 1:02:15it. I think they could have. They went have been as lovable as
- 1:02:20Heath though, now no chance. Nice. Yeah, that was all I
- 1:02:27had. Will there be a sequel? Judgment Day? They made a TV
- 1:02:32show about fifteen years ago? Oh? Yeah, was that any good?
- 1:02:36I never watched that. No, I was not saying to watch that.
- 1:02:38I mean, I feel like that might have been like a Nickelodeon or Disney
- 1:02:42show or something, you know which fifteen years ago. I was not watching
- 1:02:47those shows. Yeah, that is the show I feel like, not a
- 1:02:52sequel, but I could see him just redoing it. Yeah, like rebeating
- 1:02:57it. Why not just Taming of the Shrew. Yeah, if they want
- 1:03:00to read tell that somehow. There's tons of life in that right, Like
- 1:03:05for sure, but obviously we can't with Tithudger being gone. Yeah right,
- 1:03:10you know, and I don't think yeah it is. I don't know.
- 1:03:15I feel like it has to be kind of high schooler slash college people,
- 1:03:19so it'd be weird to try and do a sequel. Sequel, but yeah,
- 1:03:22they're all yeah, much older now. Yeah, and I think I
- 1:03:27saw that Gabrielle Union was twenty eight. Really watch is shocking? That is
- 1:03:35shocking? Yeah, dang, okay, yeah, yeah, so that's funny.
- 1:03:42That's such a Hollywood thing. Like I played high schooler when I was
- 1:03:45forty five. No, to be fair, she looks very young. She's
- 1:03:50like very young. She looks so young. It must have been weird to
- 1:03:53be in your late twenties early thirties and playing high schoolers. But not then
- 1:03:59because everybody he was doing that. I feel like, yeah, but I
- 1:04:01feel like most of those other kids looked like straight up kids. Yeah,
- 1:04:04you know, like Joseph Gordon Labbott looked. Yeah, he looked like a
- 1:04:08kid. Yeah, big time for sure. Yeah. Anyway, well,
- 1:04:13what do you think you want to play games? Oh? Yes, please?
- 1:04:16So I had put on x X put out. Tell me some actors
- 1:04:25and actresses, and we can do a little last Man. Stanton. Now,
- 1:04:30I'm gonna be very truthful with you and say, I'm just going to
- 1:04:33go back to when I did that three days ago. I was going to
- 1:04:35suggest you do that. So I'm with you. Cool so not Julia Roberts.
- 1:04:41Not Julia Roberts. Thank you, Kristin Denny again, Marsha Grisiac said,
- 1:04:46John Malkovich or Gary Oldman, which we have not done. We have
- 1:04:55a Gene Hackman suggestion, Kevin Bacon mm hmmm, Danny Trejo, oh,
- 1:05:03Anthony Hopkins, James Hong, which is interesting. I get I can't even
- 1:05:15think of who that is right now, So not that one, okay,
- 1:05:17Jack Nicholson, Glenn Close and Meryl STREEB. I'm assuming Meryl Streep, I
- 1:05:27don't Sean Connery, I don't think you're right about that. Meryl STREEB.
- 1:05:32I feel like we've done McConaughey. I think we have to Harrison Ford.
- 1:05:41I feel like we've done Harrison for it. God. I feel like we
- 1:05:44almost would have to Nicholas Cage. We must. I don't know if you've
- 1:05:50done Nicholas. I feel like, I mean, maybe that's not ringing I
- 1:05:56feel like I could name a million Nicholas Cage movies. We got Mike Cocaine,
- 1:06:01Mike. I've got Sam Elliott, who they also put down. He
- 1:06:04has one hundred and five acting credits. No way, incredible, Holy talking
- 1:06:11a bottom Carter. Oh, Brad Pitt, We've never done Brad. That's
- 1:06:20not bringing a belt. I think maybe we should do Brad Pitt. Brad
- 1:06:28do I so Tressie at Tresco three, thank you for the Brad Pitt.
- 1:06:38Yeah, let's do that. Let's do Brad Pitt. Okay, God,
- 1:06:53he's in a lot of movies. He sure is. The absolutely is.
- 1:07:00I'm gonna stop writing things down. I'm gonna start with Oceans eleven, Okay,
- 1:07:04Oceans twelve, Oceans thirteen. Okay, that was good. I think
- 1:07:10that's exactly how we started the latscap, isn't it. Yeah? We did.
- 1:07:14Yeah, that is great. That is fun. What are some I'll
- 1:07:24pick one of your faves. Interview with the Vampire. Damn, damn you
- 1:07:30I know you like that one. Yeah, that's a really great movie.
- 1:07:34Well, what was a fun movie? Yeah? I haven't seen it in
- 1:07:40a long time. I don't know how great. It's been a really long
- 1:07:42time with a very young Kirsten Dunce. She's so young in that it's really
- 1:07:46something. Oh gosh, I pressed the wrong button trying to cross that one
- 1:07:50out. Yeh damn. Okay, once upon time in Hollywood, it's what
- 1:07:57I'm gonna say. There you go, you got his his oscar doing that.
- 1:08:01Hell yeah, let's go with the other Tarantino one and we'll say inglorious,
- 1:08:08busted love that good call. Uh. I think his first movie ever.
- 1:08:14Let's say Thema Louise I had just written that down. Yes, I
- 1:08:17never I still haven't seen that, which seems silly. Same. I feel
- 1:08:21like that was just a little bit before our time. Yeah, I think
- 1:08:25you're right, but I bet i'd like it. Yeah, I'm gonna say
- 1:08:32his Baseball movie, and we will say Moneyball, Oh, good one,
- 1:08:39good call? Man. Uh, I'll say fight Club next. Oh of
- 1:08:45course, big one. Let's make sure we don't forget that. Yes,
- 1:08:51let's do another Fincher. Then let's go seven. Oh, good call.
- 1:08:57I didn't even think of that one, uh burn after reading Nice. He
- 1:09:05was so silly and he's so fun in that movie. That's a good one.
- 1:09:14Let's go with what is that called meet Joe Black. Oh, that
- 1:09:18is literally the one I was just thinking of. That's really funny. I
- 1:09:23was like, not the gorilla one, the other one. The gorilla one.
- 1:09:28Was that mean there's some mighty Joe Young or something. I always,
- 1:09:32for some reason I saw that one. Think about it my brain. The
- 1:09:36Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Is him right? It is? I've actually
- 1:09:42not seen that yet. I missed that one. Somehow I saw that one.
- 1:09:47I'll say one that I have not seen, Uh, the assassination of
- 1:09:54of something Ford the coward or the coward Robert Ford. What's the assassination of
- 1:10:00I'm gonna give it to you that I'm Jesse James by the coward rob or
- 1:10:05something for it for Yeah, nice that one, I'll say that one.
- 1:10:11That's really funny. You didn't you see that one? No, I don't
- 1:10:15think so. I think we talked about it once or something. Okay,
- 1:10:20maybe I did see it and I don't remember. That's possible. It's possible.
- 1:10:26I will go with the furry next. I just wrote that down for
- 1:10:32people who don't know. That's Fury. Yes, sorry, Fury, the
- 1:10:35World War two tank movie. Yes, it was actually pretty good, I
- 1:10:40thought, speaking of World War I will say World War Z. Oh good
- 1:10:45one, good one, dude. I feel like I'm running out. Do
- 1:10:53you think that's crazy? Do you have like a thousand more? No,
- 1:10:57hands handful more. I have a handful more. Well, I will do
- 1:11:00a cop out. He's in it for I think one frame. Oh yeah,
- 1:11:05Deadpool too, Yeah, yeah, I was holding on to that one.
- 1:11:11Sure, I will do oh another one where he is not in He's
- 1:11:17in it longer than that. Yeah, but it was that the Lost City
- 1:11:23movie. Oh yeah, good shout, yeah, really good call. Nice
- 1:11:33man struggling a little bit now, Rob, Although I did this is better
- 1:11:39than I usually do. So yeah, I mean Brad Pitt. He's a
- 1:11:44legend. There's gotta be a bunch of older ones that I'm not thinking of,
- 1:11:46right there are there definitely are, Oh for sure. Uh A river
- 1:11:57runs through it. That was him, right, No, No, it's
- 1:12:00not that one. That's what isn't that He isn't that that's the fishing one.
- 1:12:04I don't think I actually saw it. And the main guy is the
- 1:12:09guy who was in the program that Craig Schaeffer. Yes, and I actually
- 1:12:15never saw that one. But I thought you were thinking of legends of the
- 1:12:19Fall because it came out at the same time. Yeah. Sure, and
- 1:12:25he is in Legends of the Fall. Say that. Damn, I wish
- 1:12:29you would have taken more time. But uh, what's the Was he in
- 1:12:38the The Keeper Sutherland Vampire movie? Was he in that one? Is that
- 1:12:45The Lost Boys? There's just a lot of people in it. Yeah,
- 1:12:48there were grasping its straws. I don't think he was, actually, I
- 1:12:53think so, yeah, let's see, let's see. Surely he must have
- 1:12:57done a rom com with Jennifer Aniston at some point, right, That's why
- 1:13:03I haven't seen it. Think him out, buddy, Damn, I'm out.
- 1:13:12I had a few more, but not like a lot bangers at all.
- 1:13:17The Mexican which I bring up quite a bit. That was him and
- 1:13:20Julia Roberts Bullet Train, which came out not that long, really fun.
- 1:13:28There was a movie with him and Juliet Lewis called California spelled with a K.
- 1:13:32Way back in the day. There was a movie that I haven't seen
- 1:13:35called Killing Them Softly, which was It's not great. There was one with
- 1:13:43him and Robert Redford called Spy Game. Probably early two thousand, there was
- 1:13:48a really dark movie called Sleepers that he was in about them as kid it's
- 1:13:57a stacked cast, dude, and they're like they get revenge on these priests
- 1:14:04that did something to them as kids. It is real, like Billy crudup
- 1:14:11and it's really intense. And there's another one that I can't think of the
- 1:14:15name. I think it's called Allies. Maybe I can't think of it,
- 1:14:18but it was him and Meliant. It was like she was, yeah,
- 1:14:26they were spies. Okay, oh mister missus Smith, Oh yeah, good
- 1:14:32one. Wait he's in that game. Oh, I mean you obviously won,
- 1:14:35but you know, I like to throw one in at the end,
- 1:14:40that space one that was so weird at Astra ad Astra. I don't think
- 1:14:45I would have came up with that. Nope, no, I wouldn't.
- 1:14:47It was in that. I definitely saw it in the theater. I think
- 1:14:50same. I did too. I saw it with Austin on the road nice.
- 1:14:57I think the Allied Did you say that for the coach one? That's
- 1:15:00what it's called, something called war Machine from twenty seventeen. I don't remember
- 1:15:03that we missed Babylon. He was definitely in Babylon. Yeah, what part
- 1:15:09was he? And I was trying to think of that. I mean,
- 1:15:12his name is Jack Conrad, but he's a he's a main Is he a
- 1:15:15main character in that? Oh? Big? Remember that at all? Him
- 1:15:18and Margot Robbie have a bunch of scenes. Yeah, makes sense. Yeah,
- 1:15:23the counselor. Oh he's in Twelve Years a Slave. I didn't remember
- 1:15:27that either. Yeah, that had a big cat. Oh, the Big
- 1:15:30Short. We should have had the Big Short. Oh yeah, we should
- 1:15:32though the Tree of Life rob Oh, of course, I love The Tree
- 1:15:36of Life. Well, he was in the Mega Man movie, which I
- 1:15:41never actually saw Mega Mind, Mega Mind. Sorry, he played metro Man.
- 1:15:47So that's why I think I screwed it up. Other than Babel,
- 1:15:50which I saw, Oh yeah, I never saw that. Oh boy boy,
- 1:15:56that's a bit. Roy definitely saw that Confessions of the Us of a
- 1:16:00Dangerous Mind. I didn't remember him in that full frontal that was I brought
- 1:16:04that up during That's a Big Mess. I've seen that so many times,
- 1:16:13seven years in Tibet. Didn't see that. The Devil's Own him and Harrison
- 1:16:18Ford. There's Sleepers, Oh, twelve Monkeys. But I feel like people
- 1:16:23like that movie, right, I've never seen it. We should have got
- 1:16:25twelve Monkeys, the favorite true romance. He plays the stoner dude. Should
- 1:16:32have had that yet contact That is not that movie. Oh it's a short
- 1:16:40number one sorry Johnny swayed. Oh wasn't he in that Cool World? The
- 1:16:48hell or whatever world? Is it? Before all this cutting class? Maybe
- 1:16:55it's not that happy together. No, no Man's Land, no way out?
- 1:17:04Maybe, Oh no it is. It is cool World? Look two
- 1:17:09above, well the one you said, what year nineteen ninety two? So
- 1:17:16there's thumb luise Johnny tails and then cool World. And I remember I saw
- 1:17:23it and they were trying to do like who framed rat a rabbit? That's
- 1:17:27what it looks like. But it was I remember not liking it at all.
- 1:17:31Bummer. Yeah. Anyway, well we did, I mean, all
- 1:17:36things considered, we did Okay, you did really well. We did miss
