- Jackson: Hello everyone, welcome back. My name's Jackson, that's Davis, and this is the Mike Check Podcast. Week one is upon us. We're here. We made it. Finally. Davis: Finally have games to talk about. Finally. Jackson: Finally. This it's starting to get more fun doing this. Like I feel like the conference previews were okay, but like it's it's a lot more fun to talk about games coming up during the week and and recapping games that happen. So I can't believe it's finally here. Davis: Yeah, the conference the conference rundowns a little monotonous going through all the win totals for each of the teams. Jackson: Yeah. Yeah, you don't realize how many power four teams are until you're picking win until you're picking wins on each game of every team schedule. So glad that's Davis: Yeah. Jackson: over with, but was happy to do it. It was fun. It kinda gives us a little refresher on the teams and I guess allow us to break these games down a little bit easier. So I guess I'm I'm thankful for that. But happy happy we're diving into some games now. Davis: Mm-hmm. How was your week zero viewing experience? Jackson: It was fine. caught some of the T most of the second half of the TCU game. The Virginia game was kinda over from the get go and then Kiddo was was awake and and running around so kinda caught bits and pieces until the the late games. But it was it was nice. It was nice having football on the T V for a change. Davis: Yeah, I was I'll be honest, I started dozing off at the end of the UN L V game. Jackson: yeah, I I I didn't make it to the end. Davis: those late that late after dark games are tough in the Jackson: Yeah, I'm not I haven't trained my body to to stay awake that late yet. But we'll get there. We'll get there. The big bigger games will be in that late window going forward, so I'm gonna have to Davis: Yeah. Yeah. Jackson: start making some espresso shots and and staying up late. But Davis: Mm-hmm. Jackson: all right. Well not much not much news since we talked last, but anything anything you got before we jump jump into the week one stuff? Davis: No, I don't think so. We'll cover week one, give a high level overview of all the games that occurred. I think we plan to do some winners and losers. and then we'll hit the slate for this upcoming week. Jackson: All right, so starting off, winners and losers, Davis, you wanna rattle through yours real quick? Davis: Yeah, so my first winner was the Virginia O line. Virginia, you know, absolutely demolished NC State. It was over quick. Finished final score was thirty-four to eight. I really wanted to call out the O line specifically. NC State had could do nothing to get in the way of that run game. Bo Prabula carried it for fifteen times for a hundred and ten yards. Didn't really have to pass much after that. So did want to give a big winner to the O line. did you see their average starting age for that O line, by the way? Jackson: Yeah. I think I brought it up last pot. I'm pretty sure I did. Davis: Yeah, it was from left tackle to right tackle, I think it was six year, five year, seventh year, six year, seventh year. So no no one on that O line was Jackson: Yeah, they're all like not just seniors. Davis: younger than twenty two. Jackson: Yeah, yeah, it's crazy. Yeah, I'm Davis: Crazy. Jackson: pretty sure I brought that up last week 'cause when I was doing my Virginia NC State prep, I I noticed that and I was like, Hold on. Let's do it. I gotta I had to do a double take. I was like, let me make sure this is right before I just come out and say it. But yeah, it's crazy. It showed for Davis: That Jackson: sure. Davis: yeah, that was a good one because we were both high on Virginia in our ACC breakdown. So that was pretty sure that was one that we were adamant with the Virginia over. Jackson: Yeah. Davis: So that felt good. Jackson: Alright, my my first winner I had Davis Warren. gotta give him credit. You know, they they played decent there at the beginning. Found a way late when Hawaii scored to drive it down the field and and get the go ahead touchdown. So Happy for Davis Warren coming over from from Michigan and getting a starting job and and getting the win in week one 'cause I don't know how many more wins Stanford's gonna get so good. So good on them for for getting that one against away. Davis: Yeah. first loser, USC fans. Don't know if y'all saw the picture before the g or during the game. I think they reported that they had forty or fifty thousand people in attendance. There's no shot that that they even had half that. there was nobody in that crowd. It was just embarrassing. You got a Jackson: Yeah, what's that? Davis: yeah, you got a team that's a top twenty five team, a Heisman Hopeful. No one shows up. Just yeah, shame shame on UFC fans for sure. Jackson: My first loser had Dan Mullen and UNL V. I just think a big game like that opening the season, we talked about it last week. It's a must win for UNLV for a team that has playoff aspirations and to lose at home the way they did, it's just it's tough and it and it sucks. But we'll see if they can have a bounce back week. They got a big game. They go to the island and play Hawaii this week, so It'll be interesting to see how they respond after after that home loss to Memphis. Davis: Jackson Arnold looked pretty good for about three quarters. Jackson: He did. He did. Then he turned into old Jackson Arnold, but Davis: Yeah, you can you can only mask the deficiencies for so long and then the holding the ball and taking sacks and all that starts to come to the forefront. Jackson: Yeah, I dozed off during that part, so I didn't see it all, but I heard it was it was t old s typical old school Jack Snorle. Kinda reverted back to his old ways, so Davis: Yeah. So at one point at one point he had I think going into the fourth quarter he had ninety five or s or so rushing yards. I think he finished with fifty. And so that's just all sacks. So I mean someone Jackson: Really? Because of sacks, I guess. Yeah, that's great. Davis: hurt were his fault, but I mean that's Jackson: Yeah, yeah. Davis: that's the knock on Jackson Arnold is no pocket awareness, hold the ball, then not a throw to way. Yeah. Jackson: Yeah, yeah, it's tough. Davis: for my next winner I had Bill Belichick's defensive adjustments. Early on, it it didn't look good for the UNC defense, gave up ten real quick, believe it was the first two drives. The outside zone was killing them specifically. They were running it at will, ten yards every play. After the first quarter, didn't give up another point the rest of the game. TCU did have a lot of self imposed issues there, but have to give credit where it's due. So big winner from the defensive adjustments from Bill Belichick and huge win on UNC. Jackson: Yeah. Yeah, my winner is UNC fans. I think going into a season when you're coming off of last year going four and eight, you just probably don't have many expectations for a big year this year, but they got the job done and they won. what's quarterback's name? I can't think. UNC's quarterback? Davis: Dude, I was just about to ask you that. It was transfer from Maryland. It got it it just escaped me too. Jackson: in Wisconsin yeah, I can't think of his name, but anyways, quarterbacks for UNC was was a lot better than I thought he was gonna be. he was impressive. He he was he was getting the ball where it needed to be and yeah, they did enough to get the win. So props to UNC and congratulations to their fans. Davis: my next loser were was the people that took Hawaii plus four and a half. So not Hawaii the team, but Jackson: That was tough. Davis: more so us. That was one of our picks where we both took Jackson: Both had it. Davis: yep. And you know, Hawaii was what down four with thirty seconds left, so it looked to it looked to be a a lock and then Jackson: They were up they were up what? Three? They were up three with a minute left. And it that's another thing. It's like Davis: Yeah. and then it was like, okay, this is gonna this is gonna hit regardless. then they went down four and so you figured it would hit either way and fumble six. And and the worst part was that D lineman that scooped and scored, he almost he almost stopped. Did you see that? He he slowed down he slowed down and 'cause Jackson: He almost went down. He almost went down. Davis: my heart dropped. I was like, No. And then he slowed down and Jackson: Yeah. Davis: I thought I had a chance again. And then he and then he just necked us all and and scored and ruined our ruined our bet. Jackson: How about them how about them benching what's his name? The quarterback and and some of the receivers going out for that drive after Stanford had the fumble six. I thought that was kinda Davis: That was weird. Was it the receivers too? Jackson: Well the they I mean they're Davis: I know it was I know it was Alajado. Jackson: Yeah, th there was there were some receivers. I think they benched the like wide receiver one, maybe, and maybe wide receiver two. But that was kinda crappy. I mean I don't know if you saw some FCS game. I think it was William and Mary and Villanova. Same kind of situation, but William and Mary was way more like down than Hawaii was. I think they were down two touchdowns or something with a minute left and came back and won. It's like you ne you never know in in college football, so Didn't love that move, but it's what it is. Davis: Did they say it was a benching? I had just assumed that he was banged up and it the game was thirty seconds left, so it was over. Did he say it was a benching for fumbling? Jackson: No, it wasn't a benching. It was more to like preserve him for the next week, I think. That's what the announcers were saying and I think Davis: Yeah. Jackson: I maybe saw that on Twitter too. But it's like come play the game through. There was a minute left when they scored the touchdown. Like, come on. Davis: Yeah. Jackson: You never know. I just think it's kind of I don't know, benching your starting quarterback like that is not bad that they binge him, I just it's kinda bad on the coach for tossing the towel. when when he did, but Davis: Yeah. I see what you're saying. Jackson: Yeah, that's that's what I'm saying. More more of the tossing in the towel thing. I if the quarterback he wants to bench him than bench him, but throwing in the towel like that with a minute left was not something I was a fan of. But anyways, all right, my second loser was NC State. Kinda the opposite of UNC. You're coming into the season with high expectations. Maybe even an ACC championship. Like return your quarterback CJ Bailey, but like I mentioned last podcast Davis: Lot of hype around him too. Jackson: Yeah, there's just nobody else there. And to figure that out in week one on the road was why I think we were both so high on Virginia. It's like you're losing Jacarius Peak, one of your better offensive linemen, you're losing your ACC leading rusher, in Hollywood Smothers, and then you're losing your one of your best receivers. So it's like figuring that all out in week one when you're playing on the road is is not an easy thing. And and N C State look looked bad. So I it's gotta be a little depressing for NC State and NC State fans after seeing that and week zero. But hey, it's a it's a long season, so they could bounce back. Davis: Well, they already have a conference loss. Jackson: They do. It's it's gonna be tough to to climb that ACC ladder with all the weird tiebreakers and yeah, teams don't play half the league, so yeah. Tough week for NC State. All right. Davis: Yeah. So Jackson: Get off this. Davis: we we want yeah, we want to be as transparent as possible, obviously. the Hawaii game plus plus four, plus four and a half. Should have went Jackson: Y game sp speaks for itself. UNLV I kinda knew would go or could go either way. Kinda I said that last week. It's like Yeah, Memphis Davis: Yeah. Jackson: is good and and the quarterback for Memphis turned out to be none of the real deal. And and you UNLV was having trouble running the ball late in that game. So yeah, Memphis is Memphis is good. TCU on my end, I think it's just it was just kind of a miss. I probably should have known that Davis: I mean, I didn't I didn't think UNC was gonna win. I just thought nine and a half was a lot for a Ireland game that was projected Jackson: Yeah. Davis: to rain. Predicted to rain. Jackson: Yeah. Yeah, th I nine and a half was a lot. I just thought T C U was a lot better than they were. Davis: Yeah. Week zero is a tough one. No games to go off of. Not a lot of data. So much change from one off season or from the prior season to the the new season with the transfer portal. So I think we're gonna move past this and I expect to do a little better this upcoming week. Jackson: Yep. All right. Let's roll with them. You have the first pick or or you I'll let you go ahead with with Auburn. Davis: Okay. So we chose the six biggest games. against the spread, pick six, conveniently named after some of Jackson's high school performances. Yeah. Jackson: I knew that was coming. I knew it was coming when you said conveniently named after I was like Davis: So these are the biggest games. I guess going forward we'll probably keep it keep it around this. last week we just had four. I think it was the only four power four versus FBS opponent. first game, Auburn Baylor in Atlanta. I will be there, so I'm excited for that. Seven and a half, pretty good number. I actually went back and forth on this. I believe it opened up at seven, which I liked obviously a little more. That that additional half a point when it's at seven is is pretty tough. I think Baylor last year was two and eleven against the spread or two and ten against the spread. Auburn one by fourteen last year. I know these are two completely different teams. I like Auburn. Give me Auburn, I think it's twenty eight to twenty. That's my score prediction. So right on that seven and a half, eight line. Jackson: Yeah, so to me it's kinda the I have big questions about both quarterbacks. I think Byron Brown is great, but I think a lot of other quarterbacks that played in that system at USF were solid, which I guess is a is a nod to to Goalish. But I think the step up from G six to P four will be big and I'm I don't think that he'll necessarily do bad. I just think it's gonna be an adjustment. And in game one, I'm not I I wouldn't take a seven and a half point spread for a a new offense, a new quarterback coming into the P four. On the other hand though, with Baylor, you have DJ Lagway coming over from Florida. Which DJ Lagway are you gonna get? We've seen two versions. We've seen the not so good version, and we've seen the the s very, very solid version. Well, Davis: Not so guilt diversion. Jackson: he he's been he was solid at There for a for a stretch at Florida. But I'm going to go with Baylor plus a seven and a half. I think Auburn ends up winning the game, but if I can get more than a touchdown in an opening game for a completely new offense, new quarterback at Auburn, I'll take that. Davis: And this isn't even a home game either. Originally supposed Jackson: It's basically a home game. Davis: to be at Jordan Hare, pushed out to Atlanta, and I believe in the off season it opened up at Seven and a half. So it actually hadn't come down with it going from a home game to a neutral site game, which is interesting. Biggest thing I'm looking out for for this game is to see how well the O-line for Auburn holds up. Talked about it at the SEC breakdown, but that whole O-line is five new starters all coming over from G five schools. Golish wants to run the ball. If you if you're not able to do it against Baylor, it's gonna be a long season. Jackson: Alright, Clemson and LSU. I kind of went back and forth with how I thought this game would go. I think Clemson's gonna have a very, very solid defense. But on the other hand, I think the offense is gonna be not great. LSU obviously added a whole lot of guys in the portal. I think the story there will be how will they mesh, how will they play together. But At the end of the day you are playing in Death Valley in Baton Rouge. Baton Rouge Death Valley. At night, so I think it'll be tough for Clemson's quarterback Vizina to if that's how you say his name, to do anything. I mean, I just don't have a lot of confidence confidence in Clemson's offense, especially playing on the road at night and it's not his first start, I don't think, is it Davis? He started a few Davis: I believe it is. Jackson: is it? Did he not start a game or two last year? Davis: He had a hundred and forty four snaps last year. I don't I think he no. He he started. Klubnik Klubnik Jackson: I thought I did. Davis: missed some time, I believe. Jackson: That's what I thought. Yeah. I just th I think both O lines could possibly be a concern for both teams. And w when I think that I'm I'm going I'm leaning more towards going against whoever's playing on the road. So if two teams are having O line problems, I think the team on the road obviously will struggle a lot more. where where do you see this, Davis? what's your insight on this game? Davis: This is another one that I went back and forth on. I think it originally opened up as L SU minus ten and a half. The betters have pushed that down to ten, which made it made it a little harder because I was leaning Clemson, but I think I'm gonna still roll with Clemson minus ten. I think that there's just so much noise and distractions going on with L SU right now that I just partially don't wanna pick them because of that reason alone. But you gotta think that the LSU players are hearing the outside noise too. And I know it's very cliche to make all of these points that have nothing to do with the game on the field, but I think there there is an impact there. even without factoring that in, I don't know if the talent gap with a week one game and LSU having a completely new roster versus Clemson, who while lost a lot of guys, did not all all the guys have been in the program. So I think we have a slow start. I like LSU by, you know, seven, eight, nine, but, gimme give me Clemson plus ten, I guess. Don't feel strong about it though. Jackson: Yeah, I'm gonna go the other way. I I have I have LSU minus ten. I d I just think I think the talent is the reason the L SU's gonna win this game. The talent gap. And I think Lane Kiffin is the reason they're gonna cover. I think Kiffin will scheme up enough plays for Sam Levitt and make it easy for the L SU offense with all the talent they've added to cover a ten point spread at home against a team like Clemson that I don't think is gonna score a lot of points. like I said, I was back and forth on this, but I think LSU can score thirty plus. I don't know that Clemson can get to twenty in this in this road environment at night. So give me LSU, minus ten. think Kiffin I think this place i t that stadium's gonna be nuts. And I think Clemson and and Vizina will have a tough time playing on the road in that environment. Davis: You said you think LSU gets to thirty? Jackson: Yeah. Maybe twenty seven or twenty eight, but I just don't see Clemson scoring Davis: So and and and so you got it like right on the line. If you think if you think ten is a pretty good line, but you're taking LSU and you said LSU around thirty, over under is at fifty. So thirty twenty ish. So you're right aligned with the spread and the the total there. I like I like Jackson: Yeah. Davis: the under there. Jackson: Yeah, I mean what what was the score last year? Seventeen ten? Yeah. Davis: It was it was low. It was low. I will say an interesting matchup there. Jackson: Yeah, seventeen ten last year. With a Clemson offense that you could argue it's better. Davis: I will say an interesting matchup there to look out for is Clemson's receivers against the LSU DBs. L SU lost Mansoor Delane, who went in the first round. But DJ Pickett, who is the former five star corner. should be taking over that those that number one corner responsibility. And then Clemson actually has two pretty good receivers and Bryant Westcoe and T J Moore out wide. So we'll be interesting to see how that works out, but boils down to can Vizina get get them the ball. UCLA at Cal, former Pac twelve matchup. Vegas has it as a UCLA minus one and a half line, essentially a pick'em in this environment. I trust the quarterback from Cal more. So gimme Cal a minus one and a half here. Jackson: Cal plus one and half. Yeah. So two quarterbacks that have a lot of a lot of hype coming of this season. You have Nico whatever it's Davis: Yeah Malayava. Jackson: Yeah, t two two hard na last names that are tough to pronounce too. Nico and then you got JKS from Cal. Davis: I would not want to be on the call of this game, Rent. Jackson: Yeah. Yeah. U C L A obviously brings in Bob Chesney as their head coach. Cal with Tosh Lupoy. two new coaches, two good quarterbacks. I think this will be a lot of fun to watch in the in that late window on Saturday night. I got Cal plus one and a half. I'm with you. I trust JKS more than I do Nico and I like Tosh Lupoy, the coach for Cal, being a defensive minded guy. So I think he'll be able to maybe scheme some ways to slow down Nico and the UCLA offense. So I like Cal in this game. another thing to keep in mind is some of the transfers that that Chesney brings over from JMU you added a solid running back and some some receivers as well. So UCLA I definitely think could be explosive. I think I think the line is is probably about right. I think it's a coin flip game, but I think Like I said, Tash Lupoi being a defensive minded head coach going against Nico, I think I think I think he'll be able to slow him down a little bit. So I like Cal and I like JKS as well. Davis: Yeah, and for what it's worth, a lot of the unders hit last week feel like that typically favors the better defense when you have a low scoring game. Jackson: Cal cow added some weapons at receiver too, so both these offense could be scary. All right, Wisconsin and Notre Dame. Notre Dame, who is my title pick, opens their season at Lambeau against Wisconsin. Spread is twenty and a half. yeah, I I don't I don't see this being close. I just think Davis: I don't either. Jackson: Notre Dame obviously has the big holes to fill, losing two running backs to the first round in the NFL draft, but I think at the end of the day their team is just so much better than Wisconsin. Wisconsin's almost in kind of a rebuild mode. It feels like they have been for years now. and I think, like I said, with with these two new running backs from Notre Dame, I think it'll allow them to kind of test the waters and play around with their offense when you have as good of a defense as as Notre Dame has. So I don't think there'll be a lot of pressure to score. I think they will just kind of find their way, experiment with with new personnel on the offense. And I think I think they'll win big. Scottson has a new QB transfer from Old Dominion. I think he's gonna have to run the ball and make himself two-dimensional. he's gonna have to be a run threat, I think, for this game to maybe even be close. But another thing to consider with Notre Dame and in this game is we talked about we've kind of mentioned this several times. Notre game plays a what, three or four game schedule. They have those three big games against like SMU, Miami and I can't think of the third one, but they have three big games and basically the rest of are are against a bunch of nobodies, against teams that probably won't make a bowl. Wisconsin's kind of like that other game against you know, you don't know if they're gonna be good, bad. they're just kind of an unknown on the schedule. But potentially Wisconsin could be that fourth best win on Notre Dame's schedule. So you argue that that could be a very not a solid resume booster, but that's maybe a game that they're gonna lean on come playoff time when they're trying to make their case for why they should be the number one seed or why they should get in the playoffs. So I think you could maybe see some style points here from Notre Dame. so they can point to this one. Tell playoff time. Davis: You know what their motto is? Jackson: Play like a champion today. Davis: Or yeah, that Jackson: Ha ha. Davis: yeah, that it that's correct. The motto for the year that Freeman handed down it's Jackson: No no. I have not heard this. Davis: Leave no doubt. So definitely think some style points could be coming into play. I like Notre Dame minus 20 and a half. I think the talent gap is wider than that. Neutral sight game. I think I I think this is one that I'm more confident in too. So all right, Next game, Louisville Ole Miss. So this is another Sunday game, so was the Wisconsin and Notre Dame game. Vegas has it as Ole Miss Minus seven. I believe this is a neutral site game as well. I think this is in Nashville. New correct. Jackson: Yeah, that's right. That's great. Davis: Yeah. So last year, Louisville obviously had the great season under under Braum. Braum was actually five and two as an underdog last year. like the talent that Louisville's brought in. Quarterback transferred over from Ohio State. Doesn't have a lot of experience, but should be talented. Y'all heard me last week with my Doke Walker prediction. with Isaac Brown. Think that this is a game where the two running backs you're gonna see a lot of. Keywon Lacey, Isaac Brown should be a fun matchup to to watch. I think seven was was a little higher than I was expecting. I think this line has actually moved down. I think it opened at at it might have opened at at eight and then has actually dropped down to seven So I guess I'm with the people here and betting betting it down. I like Louisville plus seven. Jackson: Yeah, so this game will be a a fun one to watch. the the transfer coming from Ohio State, to Louisville. He kinda brings a new element at quarterback than than what you're used to seeing there in the past. he can make plays with his feet and I think he's gonna have to do that for Louisville to win this game. he's gonna have to make the old miss defense honor the quarterback run. Which I think will definitely open up some of the passing lanes for him to throw the ball downfield. You mentioned the running back as well. I think that'll be big for him to get going early. But I I did find one thing that kinda I was I was fifty-fifty on this. I think old miss wins, but the spread was kind of something that I was wasn't too sure about. the defensive coordinator from Louisville, i this is his first season as a DC. and calling plays. So he gets the honor of of s calling his first ever game against Kewan Lacey and Trinidad Chambless. So to me that that's gonna be that's gonna be tough so I like L'Miss. I like Little Miss covering the seven. I think the offense is too explosive. I think too much to figure out for Louisville, like we said. new quarterback, new defensive play caller for the first time. so like all mess in this game. Davis: Yeah, we're gonna find out a lot early on, not just about Ole Miss, but about Lane Kiffin as well. You know, if Jackson: Yeah. Davis: he excels in the LSU Clemson matchup and Ole Miss struggles, maybe you can put a little more responsibility on the success that Ole Miss had last year on Lane Kiffin's shoulders and then if LSU struggles and Trinidad Shameless goes out there and balls out, then you're saying the opposite. So you know, it Jackson: Yeah. Davis: c could could swing either way. Jackson: Yeah, and I think this is another provid game for Ole Miss. I know they made the deep run last year, but I think with all the kiff and drama kinda resurfacing, I think it's just one of those another provid game for them. to show the world that they can they can be alright without Lane Kifin. and I Davis: Mm-hmm. Jackson: think I think I think they'll cover this one, Alright, next game, you have SMU and Florida State. SMU three point favorites. Florida State is the home team here. This one's on Monday, Labor Day at 6 30. I Davis: Mm-hmm. Jackson: don't know about you, but I don't know why in the world that spread is three, which scares me. Florida State did not look good Davis: Yeah, that's Jackson: on Saturday. Like, Davis: No, they did not. Jackson: not at all. Daniels looked horrible. their offensive and defensive line didn't look good. They couldn't ev they didn't even get pressure on New Mexico State's quarterback. And you're playing a team that I don't think is picked to do very well on their conference. yeah, I Davis: And you're about to play a team where the quarterback, very mobile, Kevin Jennings going into Jackson: Yeah. Davis: year three as a starter. Feel like him and Rhett Lashley have been paired up together for forever now. And they're just you know, each year Jackson: Turn it up. Davis: yep. Jackson: Yeah, another year for Kevin Jennings in the system against a team that did not look well last year. I know it's on the road, but to me I think it's very obvious. Like I said, the spread scares me. I don't know why it's only three. without getting pressure on the quarterback, Florida State's gonna have a long season. And they didn't show that they could do that last week. So I like SMU big in this one. Like I'm maybe two touchdowns big. Daniels just didn't look good either. I mean, he that's another thing about Ashton Daniels is I know I've said it about a few of these quarterbacks, he's gotta find the way find a way to make plays with his feet. He's not good enough as a drop back guy to just sit back there, make a read it and sling it. I mean, he he just hasn't shown that he can do that. So in order to make defenses honor him in the run game, he's gotta show that he can run the ball. Which will maybe open up some of these passing windows. 'Ca sitting back there and looking for a guy's just not working out for Davis: Yeah. So I've got a s I've Jackson: Especially with element troubles. Davis: got a stat for you. So Jackson: Okay. Davis: over the past ten years they've collected the data and I guess I'll shout out whoever did this study, it's Bet Labs and I'm gonna reference it. But over the last ten years they've collected the data from the Jackson: Week zero games? Davis: the week zero games from teams that are coming off of a game versus a team that's fresh. And teams Jackson: Yeah. I saw that too. Davis: that are fresh cover the spread fifty eight percent of the time. And I don't even think it has to do with whether or not the team is fresh or not. I think it has more to do with the team that just played has put tape out there. And so the opposing team that has not played can actually game plan against that specific team. And with the amount of change that we've had in college football, you don't gain a whole lot from game prepping from last year's team 'cause it could be an an entirely new team. Jackson: Right. Davis: Maybe Vegas is caught up to that number or, you know, that study. So it's hard to know what's priced in to a Vegas line or not. I'd be interesting to see how that number goes going forward. All that to say I like SMU minus three, either way, but did think that that was a interesting tidbit to to add to that. Jackson: Yeah, that's a good point. Alright, so here here's a pick six games for featured games. Here's here's what we got. doing something new this week and I'll actually I'm sorry. Can't forget about the the watch guide. it's good to see this again. This this kind of Davis: Yeah. Jackson: is the official return of football season. So not not too many great games on this weekend. I think I'll probably stick to ABC most of the day with Bama, then Auburn, Clemson LSU. Davis: Yeah. Jackson: This is these the the late slate this week is gonna be underrated. The UCLA Cal, and then you have UNLV in Hawaii, which I I think these two games will be high scoring, solid, very good games. So Davis: Mm-hmm. Jackson: yeah. Nice is nice to see the graphic back. Davis: Yeah. I'll probably be sticking with ABC as well. Well, I guess I'm going to the two game the the three o'clock Auburn Baylor game, but we'll try to catch as much as I can of the Alabama East Carolina game and then hopefully we'll be back in time to catch the beginning of Clemson LSU. But would like to agree with you on that late slate, I think. Cal and U CLA, a lot of interesting storylines to go there. And, you know, good quarterback prospect with JKS. Iamaliava took a step back last year, but has all the tools to take that step going into this year. So it could be a fun one to watch. Jackson: Yeah. Yeah. Davis: And then you got the Sunday games and the Monday games and and those those get better. Jackson: yeah. We don't have those on there. Davis: Ole Miss Louisville probably game of the week in my opinion. Jackson: Alright. Davis: so we have the upset pick of the week here. Did want to adjust the scoring a little bit and give some points for when a team does not win outright but still covers. So however much the team covers by, they'll get 10 points for it. And then if you get an outright win, you get whatever the money line is. So for example, if Wisconsin here wins outright and Jackson picks them, he'll get a thousand points. However, if they don't win outright and they lose by ten, the line is twenty and a half. So they'd cover by ten points, so you get a hundred points there. so we have all the power four versus FBS games here. minimum underdog you can take is plus two fifty. So it'd be nice if we could call one or two of these upsets this year. Jackson: Yeah. Davis: So here are the notable games that we got. Most of are P four versus versus group of five outside of Clemson and LSU and then Wisconsin, Notre Dame. Jackson: So I think I'm first here, so I'll I'll I'll kick it off. I I was kinda between a lot of them on this. I I don't just absolutely love one. I think Oregon State's interesting versus Houston. I think Toledo's interesting versus Michigan State. Miami, Ohio is one I was very close to picking, but ultimately I decided to go with the low hanging fruit and take two lane plus two fifty against Duke. I just think with Duke there's a whole lot of unknowns. Obviously the quarterback Darry Minz is now at Miami. and two lane playing a P four school like this is I don't wanna say the Super Bowl for them, but it's a big deal. So, give me two lane against Duke. Davis: I like it. Yeah, I think that's back to back weeks that you took the the lowest the lowest money line. No no you're just playing the game. Jackson: Yeah, sorry. I'll get better. I I g I I don't have anything to go off of. There's I need some game. Davis: I respect it. Playing the game. Jackson: I need some games to go off of so I can so I can better like educate myself to make these picks. For now it's just kinda like throwing crap on a board and hoping it sticks with these upset picks. Davis: Yeah. So I'll actually take Tulsa against Oklahoma State. Money line is plus four hundred. Spread is thirteen and a half. I think I think the way that I went about it this week was picking a game that I like spread wise. I don't think that Tulsa wins outright, but I do think that thirteen and a half is a large number as a home underdog. Think Vegas is giving a lot of credit to a new Oklahoma State team. I know it they completely came from North Texas, but fourteen on the road, that's that's a lot. interesting that Tulsa actually beat Oklahoma State outright last year. I think that that was the game that resulted in Mike Gundy's firing. Completely different team, completely different coach. Really just boils down to thirteen and a half is a lot. Maybe I get lucky. We'll see. Jackson: Alright, so going forward we decide that we're gonna kind of open the board up for us to choose from the whole slate and pick some games that we feel confident, about. so we each pick three. I think I'm first on this one, so I'll s kick it off. My first pick will be my team, Alabama Crimson Tide covering the twenty-eight and a half. When I sent this to Davis, it was twenty seven and a half, so the line has moved. I feel a lot better about the twenty-seven and a half than I do about the twenty-eight and a half, but I'll stick with it. I think I think Bama's against a team like East Carolina, you have Keelan Russell obviously coming in at quarterback. your defense is gonna be solid, so I feel comfortable about that too. East Carolina's team is extremely old, which is one thing that concerns me. It's kind of similar to the Virginia. take that we were talking about earlier. They're just very, very old and experienced. So it's that's a concern. I know they were a good team last year. They beat Memphis last year, so and I know it's obviously a a whole new team, but it's not a push over J6 school. Davis: Yeah. Caden Hauser, their quarterback last year, transferred to Somewhere else, transferred away. Can't remember where. Jackson: so yeah. I I d and I think when you have a quarterback competition and a big spread like that, I think when you're up by however many points, when you do put the backups and you're going from Keelan Russell to a guy like Austin Mack, who was a top seventy five recruit and has been in that system for four years and almost won the starting job. So I don't see any s huge concern for something like a backdoor cover, so I think Bama wins about more than twenty eight points in this game. Davis: All right, let's go with mine. I think Alabama does not win by twenty eight and a half points. Jackson: I actually didn't know I didn't know you had that on there, Davis. You just stuck that one in. Davis: Yeah. East Carolina's an old team that doesn't concern me. I don't know, twenty eight Jackson: That should benefit you. Davis: and a half is a lot. Definitely with that number going from twenty seven and a half to twenty eight and a half, definitely impacts or I guess not impacts, it benefits me. Jackson: That was a little editor's bump. You saw it go twenty eight and a half and then you throw it in there. Davis: Yeah. So you know, I think when we looked at these originally and we were making our picks, w we put in and then when I was actually making the slides, you know, if the line benefits me, as the editor of the slides, then I'll I'll throw that in and if it if it does if if Jackson: They've just pulled a fast one on me in other words. But Davis: it doesn't benefit me then I'll then I'll go back to yesterday's yesterday's spread. But twenty eight and a half is a lot. You know, I actually was taking a look at the SP Plus predictions. And this is one of the games that had the biggest disparity between the Vegas spread and the SP Plus implied spread. SP Plus actually had it at twenty two and a half. So six point six point favorite. Jackson: I trust Vegas. I trust Vegas. Davis: Six point favorite there. I guess I'm just sh Jackson: Six point difference. Davis: I think it really just boils down to the uncertainty, or maybe not uncertainty at quarterback, but just the Jackson: Gotta figure it out. Davis: God, I've already I've already just derailed myself. I mean you're start Jackson: Bama's already startling you? Davis: Huh? Jackson: Said Bama's already getting you rattled? Davis: I'm just so confident in this plus twenty eight and a half that I that I just don't even know where to begin. Jackson: I mean, I get it. I get the t I liked it twenty seven and a half a lot better than I did twenty eight and half. I'll be happy with a win. I just think you do have a quarterback that's still trying to figure it out, as you mentioned, but I think doing it against a team like East Carolina will be beneficial. You're not playing no offense to ULM, but Albama beat U L seventy three to zero last year and this is this is no U L This is a solid G six team. So I think playing against a team like East Carolina will be beneficial for him. Beneficial to get some looks for Alabama's offensive line, new revamped offensive line. And then like I said, when you put in the guys like Austin Mack on the back end, I think the spread will I mean the game will get further apart instead of closer together like you do with a lot of these big FBS programs playing G six schools and in week one games like this. So I like Alabama. I'm I like twenty and a half. Davis: Yeah. I'm I'm hoping for a backdoor cover with the the backups in. I don't know what the line is for the first half, but I'd probably like it better. It's probably seventeen, eighteen first half spread, which would be more enticing Jackson: Yeah, probably. Davis: more enticing for me. Jackson: Yeah, I don't I don't see them having a lot of success scoring the ball on the defense either, so it's gonna be like extremely hot also. I don't know if that helps me or hurts me hurts me, but it's gonna be like feels like a hundred and ten degrees according to James Spann. would be apparently the hottest Alabama game on record in Tuscaloosa, so something to keep in mind. Davis: Does Alabama have a full house? Jackson: No. Davis: You don't think so? You don't think you Jackson: No. Davis: pack it out? Jackson: No. eleven AM game a hundred and ten degrees against East Carolina? No. I don't. It's not w we we expect to win this game, Davis. We've won six national championships in the last fifteen years. It's not Auburn. We don't go just to see the team win. Like you guys go to East Carolina games 'cause like it's one of the only games you will win. Davis: Yeah. Jackson: So you gotta go to every one of the wins you can see, but no. Davis: Who was y'all's head coach during that? Jackson: Exaving. Davis: yeah, that's right. I don't have him anymore, do you? Jackson: That's okay. We still made the playoff last year. We're on a come up. I I liked Bohr, I've trust. I trust him. All right. Number two. Davis, who you got? Davis: Alright, so for my next game, I put Georgia Tennessee State on there. Saw this interesting thing that said that Kirby Smart is 014 and one when he is a 38 point favorite. So, you know what that tells me? It tells me that they obviously don't run up the score. they put the backups in pretty quickly. Georgia is playing Tennessee State, and it is a 44 and a half point favorite this week. So, 014 and one, gotta go with to no. I'm actually they're breaking the trend. Georgia is covering the 44. I'm confident Jackson: Wow. Davis: in it. I'm confident. So the crazy thing about this is this opened up as a 47.5 point favorite. And this this like tweet or whatever. Went viral. Everyone's seen the tweet. Jackson: I've everyone's seen the tweet. It it's gone it's like everywhere. Davis: It it's no longer valid because it's obviously being in like Vegas is all changing lines because of it. So that number has come down three points. Helps me out even more. The the talent disparity with this game is greater than most of the other 38. and a half point spreads that Georgia has had in the past. and a lot of those are like that 38 number is was a weird cutoff. I I went back and looked. So many of those were like forty five, forty six and they just barely missed. I don't think that that trend continues. I like Georgia minus forty four and a half trend trend ends this Jackson: Wow. All right. Davis: Once something's become mainstream in the betting in the betting world, it can no longer be trusted. As soon as a model starts outproducing Vegas, Vegas then takes that model into consideration. So it is no longer valid to beat Vegas, so to speak. And and this is one of those things. That number has come down, which is crazy. Jackson: Alright, for my next pick, I'm gonna go back to one of the one of the teams I picked last week that did not get the job done for me, and that's UNLV. minus three at Hawaii. I do think there's a gamble taking teams on the island, road teams on the island. however, I think UNLV is a lot more talented than Hawaii is. Hawaii showed bits and pieces of what their offense can be for like a brief period in that game last week against Stanford. and I think UNLV just went up against a very tough opponent in Memphis. they had a great deal of line, they had a good quarterback, which obviously I don't think will will change this week with going against Hawaii. Hawaii's quarterback is is solid as well. But I think offensively, Dan Mullen and UNLV will bounced back fairly well against a weaker defensive team in Hawaii and I think UNL V goes to Hawaii and and gets the win. Davis: I like it. Jackson: Alright, I think Davis: Do we see Alex Orgy this week? I know we saw him to run, I believe, once. Do we see him do we see him moving? Jackson: Maybe I I I I think maybe w we they'll just kinda stick with whatever's working. I d I don't think this is a game where you're playing around trying to try a hundred different things. If you're winning I think you just keep on doing what what you're doing and and not change I mean, you saw what just happened with Hawaii and Stanford. Stanford was up three scores, I think, and in in a blink of an eye they Hawaii cut it and and took the lead. So I don't think UNLV's gonna mess around this week. I think they're gonna go over there, get the business done and and get out of there. So to answer a question, I don't know. Davis: Well, I think that I think that quote by Dan Mullen last week was just complete coach speak. He essentially said he expects to play both quarterbacks and it wasn't split at all. I mean Jackson Arnold took Jackson: Yeah. Davis: every pass and I believe Alex Orgy only played one or two snaps and it was a fourth and one run. So we did see both quarterbacks, but it was it was not in the sense Of what Dan Mullen led us to believe. Jackson: Yeah, no. I I mean if w if they're losing and Arnold's playing bad then yeah. But if they have the lead and and are rolling on offense, I don't think you'll you'll see a change. Alright. Next up, Davis: What you got next? Jackson: I have Oklahoma State, minus thirteen and a half. Just kind of piggyback with what you said, but I'm going the other way. Tulsa beat him last year in Stillwater, which was one of the more embarrassing games that Oklahoma State's had in recent history. I think there's a revenge factor in this game. And that's why I'm going Oklahoma State. It is a completely different team. Davis: Completely different team. I don't know if they have a single player on that on that team from last year. Jackson: Th there there are some guys on that team. I think I think it's a pride thing. I think they go in there with a high powered offense and they just run out of their own stadium. I like Oklahoma State to make a big big splash in week one under the new system, new coach, new quarterback, new weapons, new team. I think that I think they get it done. I like Oklahoma State covering thirteen and a half at Tulsa. Davis: And that kinda goes against my upset pick. So we got some disagreements here, which will be interesting to see how it plays out. Jackson: Yep. You got me last week, so we'll see what happens this week. All right, Davis, what you got? Davis: All right. You know, you you chose Alabama, had to put Auburn on here. Not for the spread, even though we covered the spread. Didn't love the seven and a half number, but I do really like the under fifty nine and a half. Auburn returns a good bit of players on defense. I think that Baylor will struggle to score. I'm unsure about DJ Lagway's ability. The biggest question mark on Baylor, however, is their defense. I mean Auburn put up, I believe, thirty-eight points on their defense last year, and that was under a Jackson Arnold led offense. Auburn brings over a lot of the guys from USF. where they had a high powered offense in the group of five, but I'm just not certain that that will completely translate, at least not in week one. as a seven-point favorite, I think that implied score prediction is is I should have done the math before. But I think I have it as as 2820, which would put me. well under. so I like this a lot as the under. I think it's a slower game. Auburn's gonna try to run the ball. They're gonna try to run the ball early and often. O line said it before, biggest question mark. Golish is going to make sure they get as as much reps as possible. Because, you know, Lord knows that Auburn needs it. Jackson: Yeah. Yeah, like I I when I ha had Baylor covering earlier, I had That was more so stopping Auburn's offense than keeping up with Davis: Yeah. Jackson: the scoring there. So I like that play. Davis: Yeah. I just can't envision, you know, Baylor putting up thirty points. Jackson: No, I can't either. Davis: And I don't think that this is going to be a shootout. so I th I think it's gonna be kind of a you know, Golish run Golish runs a hurry up offense, but they run the ball so much that, you know, I don't I don't think that we have the high powered offense to score immediately. So I I expect sustained drives. That Jackson: Yeah. Davis: that should, aid in the favor of the the under here. So even more reason. Jackson: Yeah. Davis: I think the only way that this hits the over is in an Auburn blowout and I would love that, but I don't I'm not predicting it. Jackson: Alright, let's jump over to our next segment we had let's see. Davis: So now that we're in week one, I wanted to spark up a game between Jackson and I. We're essentially going to be drafting a weekly college fantasy football team. So each week we'll go through the eligible games. We have it as power four versus power four and select a quarterback, a running back. receiver, a tight end, and a flex and put them into our starting lineup. Jackson and I will both do that. At the end of the week, I'll add up the total points and that'll be our points for week one. At the end of the season, we'll see who has the most points and that'll be the winner. There's a couple couple caveats when selecting players. When you draft a player You can't take them for the rest of the season. So need to be strategic with you know how you're managing different teams that are on Jackson: Mm-hmm. Davis: bys, different teams that are not playing another powerful or team. once you draft a player, that team is no longer eligible for another player. So if I take Byron Brown from Auburn, I then couldn't take Jeremiah Cobb. Jackson: really? I didn't know that. Okay, I need to switch one of my Davis: Yeah. So it'll automatically like gray out that team. try to think of any other caveats. I don't think so. I'll just add up the weekly total. You know, we're playing standard PPR scoring, Y'all I'm sure everyone's played fantasy football. Jackson: Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Davis: Okay. You wanna you wanna increase the odds here a little bit and do a little friendly wager? Jackson: Not really, but sure. Davis: I got one for ya. I've been I've been thinking on this, but I didn't wanna bring it up to you until until we were live. Yeah. Jackson: Don't wear a rolling. I'm not wearing a auburn hat if that's I'm not com I'm not confident enough in my fantasy ability. That's the if that's if that's the road Davis: come on. Not it Jackson: you're going down. Davis: It was it was the winner. Well, I guess it technically wouldn't be the the final winner, but the winner through up until the last week gets the other person to wear either an Auburn or Alabama jersey on the pod going into rivalry week. Jackson: We'll have to come up with something that's not that Davis: come on. Jackson: I can't throw that off. I'm not confident enough on a fantasy fantasy thing. Davis: Dude, we're just selecting players. Jackson: I know, you're fantasy you're the fantasy guru, Dais. I'm smarter than that. Davis: This is college. Jackson: I'm smarter than that. We'll come Davis: Wow. Jackson: up with something next week. We'll come up with something next week. Davis: Well, I guess Jackson: All right. Davis: I might as well bomb this week and then let you get a lead and then you get a little confidence in you and then I'll repropose it. Jackson: No, this week counts in in the in the season long race. So tighten up. Davis: No, I know, but but maybe I just give up like eighty points right off the bat and and just know that I can make it up. All right. Well, Jackson: Plus a little bit. Davis: I guess we'll figure something out. You're no fun. Jackson: It's not serious for me. I can't put that Davis: Yeah. Jackson: I can't put that crap on. Alright. How where am I going? Draft player pull, right? Davis: Yeah, draft player pool. So I think you've already loaded the pool. So these are the eligible games that you can select from. Most of these games we've already talked through. So I guess I'll give you first pick. You can take whatever position you want from whatever game you want, but once you select that player, you can't select them again all year. Jackson: Okay. I'm gonna go JKS as my quarterback. From Cal. I think he has a big week, touched on it earlier. UCLA, I don't think has a great defense. I think him getting some more weapons will only improve what he did last year. So give me JKS as my quarterback for week one. Davis: Okay. I like it. All right. I guess I'll get the second pick. I think I'm gonna take a running back here since you're not gonna take a quarterback, so I might as well wait on that one. I'm gonna go I'm gonna go Isaac Brown here. I know Keewan Lacey was available. I think I'm gonna try to save him. I think that if Louisville's gonna cover, need a big game from from Isaac Brown, Sunday game prime time, I'm excited to see it. Jackson: Okay. I am going to go Deuce Alexander. think Ole Miss has a big week. I think Trinidad Chambless kind of reestablishes himself as one of the better players in college football and will be looking to Deuce Alexander a lot as he is their wide receiver one at Ole Miss. So I'm taking Deuce Alexander to have a big week against Louisville. Davis: Okay. I'll also go wide receiver here. I will take Jordan Fayez on. Notre Dame has a lot of games against non power five power four teams, so figured I'd have to get a player in from there from them now. Jackson: Smart man. Think about Davis: Yeah. Jackson: that. Davis: Think thinking ahead. Jackson: Let me think here. I'm gonna go with Olsen Pat Henry, tied in out of Clemson. When you're playing on the road and it's you got a young quarterback with not a lot of starts under his belt, tight end is the first place you're looking. Check down to running backs and then tight end routes. It's the first place I usually looked. It's usually an easier route, crosser, shorter route, sometimes intermediate, but it's easier to throw the ball to a big old target like a tight end. So I think he'll be looking his way a lot. so give me Olsen Pat Henry, tied in out of Clemson. Davis: Alright. I think that that was an all time fumble if you're going tight end. And I forgot about this guy. but when you said tight end, I was like so give me the actual good tight end from that game, Trade S Green. Jackson: I was gonna Davis: Just Jackson: go with him but I I figured I would get there later in the year. Davis: Mm. I don't know why it did that. I think a maybe the dashes screw up the the parser of the website, but Tradez Green. you gotta go to me. Just absolute beast. Did you see that he's he practices in a non-contact jersey? He's not even hurt or nothing. They just they just don't want anybody hitting him. Jackson: Really? Davis: Yeah. Jackson: All right. I will go to my running back. I already get him. Davis: Hey one. Jackson: Haynes? Justice Haynes? Davis: Did you already take someone from Georgia Tech? Jackson: Up their website. Davis: I don't know. Guess we found a bug. Okay, we can add manually. I'm gonna that's interesting. yeah, I'll add manually. I don't know why I didn't go in there. Jackson: Well, you're doing it? Davis: I was gonna do it after the fact. We didn't need to do all this here. We'll just make note Jackson: Cut it out. Davis: of it. You know what it is? Jackson: Star Moment. Davis: At least I think this might be it. So you know where I'm pulling the the the player pull from? College football twenty seven rankings and he must have opted out of the game. Jackson: Alright. Alright, I guess I'll we'll pick another running back. Davis: No, I mean no, we can grab We'll just add to I mean, I won't stop you from taking them. Jackson: Okay, alright, I'll take Justice Haynes. Running back. Running back Georgia Tech. Add him after the fact. And then alright, you what do you have left? Davis: So I have quarterback and flex. I think I'm going to go I'll go Deuce Robinson from Florida State wide receiver. Jackson: Dang. That's where I was going next. Davis: Really? Jackson: Yep. Pair flex. Davis: I mean, he didn't have a big game last week. three catches for fifty yards, but Thinking that they're gonna be throwing the ball a lot. SME's gonna put up put up some some points. Jackson: Yeah. Alright. For my flex I will go Ymir Knight, the wide receiver out of SMU. Projected to be SMU's wide receiver one this year. Mentioned it earlier. if they can't get pressure on Jiddings, he's gonna have all day to throw that ball, so give me any receiver on SMU. I'll take the wide receiver one. Ymir Knight. And last one for you, who's your quarterback? Davis: All right. Gotta go gotta go with Byron Brown. Jackson: Okay. Davis: lot of quarterbacks available here. Could have chosen from, you know, Darien Mensa, JKS, CJ Carr, Sam Levitt, Kevin Jennings, Trinidad Chambliss. Lotta options. but like the matchup with Byron Brown and do wanna kinda save some of those top tier quarterbacks for maybe a week that I'll that I'll need them more. think we're gonna rely on his legs a lot. Baylor's defense is pretty weak. I think we could easily see you know two I think we could easily see two rushing touchdowns and a passing touchdown. I don't think that's far fetched at all. So yeah. Jackson: I like that pick. If there's ever a week to get him it's when he's not playing a S C C team and he's but he's playing a power five score or power four. Davis: Of another power force school. Yeah, that was ex that was my thought process exactly. Jackson: See? I knew I should have done this friendly wager with you. Davis: Yeah. All right. So to round it out, my team, Byron Brown, Auburn, Isaac Brown, Louisville, Jordan Faison, wide receiver, for Notre Dame, Tradez Green, LSU tight end, and then at my flex, I have Deuce Robinson, the receiver, for Florida State. Jackson: Alright, I got quarterback JKS at a Cal. running back Justice Haynes who is not pictured because he opted out of NCAA twenty seven, we think. Deuce Robinson, the wide receiver at Ole Miss, is my receiver. tight end I have Olsen Pat Henry, Clemson, Flex, I have Ymir Knight, SMU wide receiver. But throwing a miss my flex for this. Davis: Dude, I th I think I might I think I might go up like sixty week one. Jackson: Yeah, I kind of like I kind of like took the you can't take a player more than once thing, maybe a little too seriously. I didn't think about the fact that I how o I mean we only have what, sixteen of these? Or not sixteen twelve of these, so yeah. Davis: Yeah. Jackson: well. You never know. I got some I got some dudes on my side, so Davis: There there's some big names that weren't taken. Keewan Lacey, Trinidad Shameless, huh? Yeah. Jackson: I'm saving. I'm saving Lacy in Tiamelus. Davis: CJ Carr. Jackson: Saving car. I will have plenty of opportunities to get get car in with all the Mickey Mouse games they have on their schedule, so Davis: Yeah. If they're if they're powerful or not. Jackson: they're most of are are power four. They just they all suck. Yeah. Alright, well Davis: Weak power four. Yeah. All right, that'll be a fun one to keep track of as the season goes on. We'll have to figure out something to to do for our friendly wager. Jackson: Yeah, we'll figure something out. Something that won't be too bad. S so I don't get killed by the fantasy king over Davis: do you Jackson: here. Davis: Do you come up with a a player? Jackson: About to. About to. You know I'm a last minute guy with this with this game. Davis: All right, so you want me to start it off? Jackson: Yeah. Davis: So this I'll I'll give you the theme. Let me know in the girl. Jackson: Okay. Go ahead. Davis: All right. So with us going into week one. I chose the theme to be a player that put up a notable week one performance recently. So this is a Jackson: You would this suppose You didn't tell me this theme beforehand, so mine is not a I don't have that. Okay. Okay. Davis: well that's my theme. That's my theme. Okay. So notable week one performer. And this is like a a huge, huge game. Alright, you ready? In week one, a matchup against a ranked opponent, I rushed for a hundred and ninety eight yards and three touchdowns, while also returning a kickoff a hundred yards for my fourth touchdown of the game. Jackson: Tavan Austin? Davis: No. Good guess. during my junior season I was suspended four games after accepting money for signing memorabilia. That feels like an eternity ago nowadays. Jackson: I don't have a conference yet. I just have he had a big game in week one. Davis: yeah. Jackson: Hobby Arenas, shout out. Davis: Rush for a hundred and ninety eight yards. Jackson: Christian McCaffrey. Davis: No, that's a good guess too. This hint isn't that great, so I'll I'm gonna add to it. I finished my college career with more than thirty two hundred rushing yards despite playing only three seasons in this SEC conference or for a team in the SEC conference. Jackson: Thanks for the S you C and there. Davis: Yeah. Jackson: Trying to think of someone that's like a a kit returner that's also running back. See Hold on, I'll give you a guess in a minute. Man, I don't have a guess. Davis: So he wasn't like the primary kick returner. He just like he just did it every once Jackson: Yeah, yeah. Davis: in a while. Jackson: I don't know. I'm trying to think of like a good guess. B. John Robinson. Davis: All right. I was selected in the first round of the NFL draft and later won NFL offensive player of the year. Jackson: Todd Curley? Really? Davis: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. He would return kicks every once in a while and he was like really good at it. They just didn't want him doing it that often, obviously. Jackson: Yeah. Davis: But yeah, it was a week one matchup against Clemson. It's two ranked teams. Jackson: Sorry, I'm getting my guy here. Okay. Davis: Has Alabama announced what their jersey patch is? Jackson: No. You guys have one? Davis: No. Jackson: Alright, you might get this one. You ready? Davis: We'll see if I get it on the first hint for the third episode in a row. Jackson: You you might get this one on the first like if you know the first set, you're gonna get it. If you don't then you're not gonna get it. Like it's Davis: Okay. Jackson: it's one of those like kinda like the first one. Like if you know who this is, you probably get it the first one. All right, ready? Davis: What do I have a theme? Jackson: No. Davis: Yeah. Jackson: I'll give you I'll give you a easy first hand. This is not SEC. Davis: Okay. Let's hear it. Jackson: Alright, he grew up partly overseas where his father played and later worked in professional football. Then he became and he became fluent in a foreign language as a kid. Davis: Can you read that hand again? Jackson: He grew up partly overseas where his father played and later worked in pro football. And he became Davis: What is Jackson: fluent in foreign languages as a kid. Davis: What does partly overseas mean? What does that what does Jackson: Like he he spent time overseas growing up. Davis: Okay. Partly is just a weird way to say that he was overseas. Jackson: Yeah, okay. He he spent time overseas growing up where his father played and later worked in professional football. Okay, let me finish this hint. He became fluent in foreign languages a kid, often cited by scouts as evidence of his football IQ and adaptability. Davis: I know this. I actually I I I just saw Jackson: You remember seeing like the sport easier on college game day they did something on it? I that's Davis: Yeah, yeah. Jackson: what I was like, if you'll know if you know this, like you'll know it. But if you don't then Davis: I'm not gonna I don't think I'm gonna be able to pull it out, but I I when you say it I'll be like, damn it, I alright, just Alright, I mean let me get a little bit. Let me get a little bit. And this is this is former player? Jackson: Yeah. Yeah, yeah, former. Alright, as a true freshman, this player red shirted behind a starter who would later become an journeyman NFL backup, spending his first year on campus watching from the sideline as his team went one and eleven. Davis: He was the journeyman backup or the guy that he was behind as ahead? Jackson: No, the guy that he was the guy that he was behind in college, so the starter when he was a backup, that starter became a journeyman in a fell backup. Davis: So If if if he's already considered a journeyman, then this has gotta be a while ago. Jackson: Yeah. not like t since we've been alive. Davis: Yeah. It's not and and you said Jackson: You may give you the conference to make it easier? Davis: it's not an SEC team? Jackson: Not an SEC team. You want me to give the conference? Davis: No. And they went one and eleven in his f freshman year. And it's power five. Can you t can you tell me that? Jackson: Yes. Yes. Davis: One and eleven. God, I can't even Jackson: Freshman year. He was on the bench and he went one the team went one in eleven. Davis: I can't even think of a team that won't won on a level. Yeah, Kansas or something? Jackson: It's a very well known player. Davis: All right. Give me another hat. I don't know. Jackson: All right. This player finished As Heisman runner up in back to back seasons. Davis: I thought you said it was a quarterback. Jackson: Yeah, what did I just tell you that it wasn't a quar I did I don't think I did say it was a quarterback, but what made you think it wasn't a quarterback by what I just said? Davis: Because then I thought it was I thought it was it's Andrew Lott. Jackson: Yeah. Yeah. Why did you why did you think it wasn't a quarterback? I just said he'd finish the hive and runner up. Davis: Yeah, okay. Yeah. Cause actually my 'cause my mind actually went to Toby Gerhardt. 'Cause I was like, I think he finished but he didn't finish twice, it was Andrew Luck. But for a short period of time, Stanford had Andrew Luck who finished twice back to back, Toby Gerhardt who finished second, Christian McCaffrey who finished second, and then I think that was it. And then Bryce Love finished like third or fourth. Jackson: Yeah. Up there, yeah, I remember that. Davis: Yeah. Jackson: Good job. Davis: That was pretty good. I was yeah, I actually came to Andrew Luck by the wrong guess with Toby Gerhardt that I didn't end up guessing, but yeah. Jackson: Alright, well that will do it. Davis: I'll have to do better next week. I didn't get it on the first try. Jackson: Can't get all. Can't win all, Davis. Davis: No. Jackson: alright, that'll do it for this one. hey, if you haven't tell what to do, Davis. Davis: I I think it's the host job. We went we Jackson: Like and subscribe, please. Yeah. Davis: went like six episodes without asking, so I figured we're not bombarding ya. Yeah. Jackson: Yeah, this is the first time we've asked, so we need you guys to like and subscribe. Help us out a little bit. Alright. See ya next time. Davis: Yep, see ya.
