- 0:09Speaker 1: River this weekend, the over-under is under 40 right now.
- 0:16Speaker 1: And I feel bad. the only thing that gives me
- 0:19Speaker 1: pause is if Oklahoma's defense finally just gives in because
- 0:23Speaker 1: their offense hasn't done enough. I, I think the under
- 0:25Speaker 1: is the play here, despite how low this total already is. And, uh,
- 0:29Speaker 1: I mean, Texas offense has been clanky. I could, it
- 0:31Speaker 1: was six, three last year at halftime before the damn
- 0:34Speaker 1: kind of opened. They didn't get anywhere close to 40
- 0:36Speaker 1: in that game. But, uh, just if you're Oklahoma here,
- 0:41Speaker 1: really from this perspective, uh, Is there a realistic path
- 0:46Speaker 1: to victory outside of the rivalries are incredibly weird and
- 0:51Speaker 1: things happen in this game that you don't expect? Like
- 0:53Speaker 1: just an actual football path to victory. Like what is that?
- 0:56Speaker 2: Yeah. So I can't say, Oh, well it's red river.
- 0:59Speaker 2: And because of that, yeah. If your defense is able
- 1:03Speaker 2: to do what Tennessee did and you can keep it
- 1:05Speaker 2: a low scoring affair, yeah, maybe. I mean, like, let's
- 1:07Speaker 2: be real. You're going to need your special teams to
- 1:09Speaker 2: step on up really big in this game. Tate Sandell
- 1:12Speaker 2: is going to have to probably make at least two
- 1:14Speaker 2: or three kicks from 50 yards out, 50 plus yards
- 1:16Speaker 2: out to be able to kind of hold that advantage.
- 1:18Speaker 2: And you're going to have to force some turnovers. I
- 1:20Speaker 2: think that's the bottom line. The best offense for Oklahoma
- 1:23Speaker 2: in this game is probably their defense getting a pick
- 1:26Speaker 2: six against Arch Manning or forcing a fumble against Relique
- 1:28Speaker 2: Brown or Hollywood Smothers. It just is the way it is.
- 1:32Speaker 2: I got my questions with how they're able to run
- 1:33Speaker 2: the football. I got my questions with the offensive line.
- 1:36Speaker 2: I got my questions of wide receivers not named Isaiah
- 1:39Speaker 2: Satanga that can step on up in this game. And
- 1:42Speaker 2: I got my questions for John Mateer, who probably is
- 1:44Speaker 2: going to start and probably is going to play four
- 1:47Speaker 2: quarters unless he gets hurt. Because to be completely fair,
- 1:50Speaker 2: I don't know if you have a good enough backup
- 1:52Speaker 2: option to come on in and help you right this shit.
- 1:54Speaker 2: You had a bye week to be able to go
- 1:56Speaker 2: through all of the negatives that were going wrong with
- 1:58Speaker 2: your team, get healthy on the offensive line to get
- 2:01Speaker 2: back a lot of pieces like Michael Fasucci being a
- 2:03Speaker 2: big time deal at left tackle. But right now it
- 2:05Speaker 2: still is so hard to trust this offense and you're
- 2:08Speaker 2: going up against an elite defense. So I think that
- 2:10Speaker 2: the under is the easy play to go, but I
- 2:12Speaker 2: will say it's Red River. Last season, I was confident
- 2:15Speaker 2: after looking at how heinous the offense was for Texas.
- 2:19Speaker 2: The Oklahoma was going to roll through this game. They
- 2:21Speaker 2: got blown out. They didn't get blown out in the
- 2:24Speaker 2: first half, but when you give up a Ryan Niblett
- 2:26Speaker 2: punt return for a touchdown, that's all I need to
- 2:28Speaker 2: know about how bad it was offensively for both sides.
- 2:32Speaker 2: One of the big reasons you scored is because of that. Which,
- 2:34Speaker 2: to be fair, it may have to be this season
- 2:37Speaker 2: Isaiah Satanga getting that 67-yard house call on the punt
- 2:40Speaker 2: return to be able to win this game. And you
- 2:42Speaker 2: know that you can do it because a week ago,
- 2:44Speaker 2: Quay Moss was able to get a punt return for
- 2:46Speaker 2: a touchdown that made it a three-point affair against Texas.
- 2:51Speaker 2: Tennessee's offense didn't score until the final 40 seconds. They
- 2:55Speaker 2: were held to zero points for 59 minutes. You could
- 3:00Speaker 2: do that if you are Oklahoma, but you're going to
- 3:03Speaker 2: need something else to step on up, whether it be
- 3:05Speaker 2: a turnover inside the red zone or a punt return
- 3:08Speaker 2: for a touchdown or a kick six return. Something's got
- 3:11Speaker 2: to happen to help you get a little bit more
- 3:12Speaker 2: of an advantage.
- 3:15Speaker 1: How effective do you expect? I think Texas has the
- 3:18Speaker 1: best defense in the conference. I mean, Tennessee's is really
- 3:21Speaker 1: good too. There are other good, Georgia certainly has a
- 3:24Speaker 1: good defense. Missouri played really well this weekend in a
- 3:27Speaker 1: nice matchup for them against Florida. But I think Texas
- 3:31Speaker 1: and what they've shown is really, really good defensively, especially
- 3:35Speaker 1: when they locked in. Even that Ohio State game, I
- 3:38Speaker 1: thought you had short fields, you had points off turnovers
- 3:41Speaker 1: for Ohio State, you had The fourth and one, you know,
- 3:43Speaker 1: Ohio State only had to go so far. So I
- 3:46Speaker 1: think their defense has been really good all year. I
- 3:47Speaker 1: know the offense is clunky. How effective do you feel
- 3:50Speaker 1: like Mateer can be offensively?
- 3:53Speaker 2: Your guess is as good as mine. I mean, I
- 3:56Speaker 2: genuinely hope this. I hope that Ben Arbuckle this past
- 3:59Speaker 2: week took his offensive playbook, lit it on fire, and
- 4:03Speaker 2: then set it out like a Viking funeral. That's what
- 4:06Speaker 2: I hope because of what you're looking at right now
- 4:09Speaker 2: is beyond embarrassing. To a level of where I think
- 4:12Speaker 2: even Oklahoma fans would have to sit here and say,
- 4:14Speaker 2: we know in a Red River shootout, when we know
- 4:17Speaker 2: in this type of game that anything is possible, if
- 4:20Speaker 2: that offense takes the field, we have no shot. So
- 4:22Speaker 2: I hope that they have changed up so many different ideologies,
- 4:25Speaker 2: getting a playbook that has the tight ends more involved
- 4:28Speaker 2: with Rocky Beers and Hayden Hansen. I think the one
- 4:31Speaker 2: thing that you got to look for is that you
- 4:33Speaker 2: can't afford short field position. I mean, like, let's be real.
- 4:35Speaker 2: Go back to that Michigan game. Michigan's offense has been
- 4:38Speaker 2: terrible this season. They've had one really solid performance and
- 4:42Speaker 2: even still they put up 19 points against Iowa. What
- 4:45Speaker 2: was the big difference maker? The missed shots, but to
- 4:48Speaker 2: Rocky beers or to an Isaiah Satanga or to a
- 4:52Speaker 2: Hayden Hanson, whoever else was out there that at trial Harris,
- 4:54Speaker 2: when he was still healthy, And the turnovers. I mean,
- 4:57Speaker 2: they got a turnover that allowed them to have a
- 4:58Speaker 2: short field position to let Bryce Underwood and company be
- 5:02Speaker 2: able to make plays. I mean, like, that's just where
- 5:04Speaker 2: you are at this point. So you have to be
- 5:06Speaker 2: able to not have the short field position to the
- 5:08Speaker 2: turnovers in this game. Mateer's got to play a clean
- 5:11Speaker 2: football matchup no matter what. You can't afford to put
- 5:13Speaker 2: the football on the ground, whether that be as a runner,
- 5:15Speaker 2: whether that be as a passer. And again, you got
- 5:17Speaker 2: to give credit where credit's due. All the turnovers have
- 5:21Speaker 2: not been on material. You had a Rocky Beers fumble.
- 5:23Speaker 2: You had a Parker Livingston fumble in the matchup in
- 5:26Speaker 2: week two. So there's been opportunities to where other people
- 5:29Speaker 2: have put the ball in arm's reach for teams to
- 5:31Speaker 2: be able to capitalize. But this is going to be
- 5:34Speaker 2: one of those games where he is going to have
- 5:35Speaker 2: to pick up first downs with his legs. He's going
- 5:37Speaker 2: to have to be critically decisive on how he wants
- 5:40Speaker 2: to go ahead and and target his receivers in the
- 5:42Speaker 2: open space. And he's going to have to do so
- 5:44Speaker 2: in a timely manner because if the offensive line is
- 5:47Speaker 2: still banged up and they're not able to have their
- 5:49Speaker 2: front five or their best five starters out there, hey,
- 5:52Speaker 2: to break it to you, this is the best defensive
- 5:55Speaker 2: line that Oklahoma is going to go up against this season.
- 5:57Speaker 2: And by the way, it's not just a Colin Simmons
- 5:59Speaker 2: going off for five sacks. You got Alex January to
- 6:02Speaker 2: worry about. You got Manad Watson to worry about. You
- 6:04Speaker 2: got delayed billets from Raheem Biles in the back end.
- 6:07Speaker 2: Hiro Kanu could flip on in. You have depth at
- 6:12Speaker 2: the other defensive end position. So, like, there's an opportunity
- 6:15Speaker 2: to where this could be a very long day for
- 6:17Speaker 2: John Mateer if that offensive line can't hold. And he's
- 6:20Speaker 2: sitting and trying to second guess and third guess which
- 6:23Speaker 2: read do I go target. And I don't have anybody
- 6:25Speaker 2: on open. Honestly, maybe the best game plan in this
- 6:29Speaker 2: matchup is look, you throw it 15 times and you
- 6:31Speaker 2: run it 25. Because if you had 25, I'm not
- 6:34Speaker 2: saying it's going to be great, but if you can
- 6:36Speaker 2: get past that first and second level of the defense,
- 6:38Speaker 2: you at least are picking up first downs and keeping
- 6:40Speaker 2: the ball out of harm's way.
- 6:42Speaker 1: Just before we go on, I will give some love
- 6:44Speaker 1: to our new Top 25 poll. A lot of you
- 6:47Speaker 1: are like me and you hate the AP poll, so
- 6:49Speaker 1: I created a better one. You can log in right
- 6:52Speaker 1: now and for free, go create your own Top 25 poll.
- 6:57Speaker 1: I'm setting up reminders. I'm working on aggregating national college
- 7:01Speaker 1: football analysts that we all know and love and respect,
- 7:04Speaker 1: or maybe even hate just to get theirs in there
- 7:06Speaker 1: as well. It's super slick. The user interface is really,
- 7:10Speaker 1: really easy to use. You log in one time with
- 7:12Speaker 1: your Google account and you are all set. I'm not
- 7:15Speaker 1: going to spam your email. I'm not trying to sell
- 7:17Speaker 1: you anything. There's no ads on here. If somebody would
- 7:20Speaker 1: like to put an ad on there, please let me know.
- 7:22Speaker 1: But it's just a place where we can go collectively
- 7:25Speaker 1: as fans vote on the poll. the top 25 in
- 7:29Speaker 1: college football. We're going to work on a college ball
- 7:30Speaker 1: playoff one once we get closer to November, but go
- 7:33Speaker 1: check this out. It's CFA top 25.com link is in
- 7:37Speaker 1: the description. I'll pin the comment, go check it out
- 7:40Speaker 1: right now. So looking back at the Georgia game for Oklahoma, well,
- 7:46Speaker 1: even if you back up and you look at last
- 7:48Speaker 1: year's Texas game, they held them to six points in
- 7:49Speaker 1: the first half, right? And now the Texas offense was
- 7:53Speaker 1: clunky then. And it's clunky now, if we're being honest
- 7:55Speaker 1: with ourselves, we'll see what they've, during a bi-week. But
- 7:59Speaker 1: when you look at just the, the way that Georgia
- 8:05Speaker 1: started this game three and out against Oklahoma three and
- 8:08Speaker 1: out touchdown, touchdown, punt, touchdown, obviously there was a fumble
- 8:12Speaker 1: return in there as well that gave them more points,
- 8:14Speaker 1: but the five offensive touchdowns, punt, touchdown, touchdown, punt, touchdown.
- 8:20Speaker 1: If Texas gets off to that, and I think Georgia
- 8:21Speaker 1: has a better offense than Texas, but Texas has the
- 8:24Speaker 1: weapons and we'll see what they look like. The fact
- 8:27Speaker 1: that Georgia scored three times offensively in that first half
- 8:30Speaker 1: against Oklahoma to kind of remove a lot of early doubt.
- 8:34Speaker 1: Does that worry you that Oklahoma's defense may not be
- 8:37Speaker 1: able to play up to the level that we thought?
- 8:40Speaker 1: Or is it just kind of a mindset of like, man,
- 8:42Speaker 1: if you're Oklahoma's defense, you know, you got to be perfect.
- 8:44Speaker 1: And that's just a lot to play with. because of
- 8:46Speaker 1: how bad their offense is. Just thoughts about what their
- 8:49Speaker 1: defense can do against, admittedly, a clunky Texas offense.
- 8:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, let's be real. Georgia's offense, when it
- 8:56Speaker 2: wants to be, can be lethal. It can punch you
- 9:00Speaker 2: in the face, and it can go ahead and knock
- 9:01Speaker 2: you out. I don't think Texas is there yet. Now,
- 9:03Speaker 2: Texas has the pieces to get there, but at the
- 9:06Speaker 2: same time, I got my questions with the offensive line.
- 9:08Speaker 2: They really weren't able to run the football efficiently in
- 9:11Speaker 2: that matchup against Tennessee. You relied very heavily on the
- 9:14Speaker 2: explosives downfield from Arch Manning. And he had some very
- 9:20Speaker 2: impressive throws. You cannot sit here and say that that
- 9:23Speaker 2: one pass to Bishop right at the corner is not impressive.
- 9:26Speaker 2: It's just there were too many highlight plays and not
- 9:28Speaker 2: enough consistent plays. That's where I think that you maybe
- 9:31Speaker 2: be able to hold this to a low scoring affair,
- 9:33Speaker 2: force a couple of punts early on. But the thing
- 9:36Speaker 2: is that you also can't afford for the offense to
- 9:38Speaker 2: give short field position. I mean, because you also mentioned–
- 9:41Speaker 2: you said the fumble return, which is one thing. You're right.
- 9:44Speaker 2: What happened on the very next play, the next drive?
- 9:47Speaker 1: They threw a pick, right?
- 9:48Speaker 2: They threw a pick. So it's like you even after
- 9:51Speaker 2: the Chris Cole.
- 9:51Speaker 1: And then they had a fumble to play. Yeah.
- 9:54Speaker 2: And then they punt.
- 9:55Speaker 1: They close the three now in a fumble. It was
- 9:57Speaker 1: three turnovers in 20 plays.
- 10:01Speaker 2: And then it was a two-play touchdown drive because of,
- 10:04Speaker 2: what was it? Short field position. So that's the main
- 10:06Speaker 2: thing is that the defense is going to, I think,
- 10:09Speaker 2: be able to play up to par at least for
- 10:11Speaker 2: three quarters against Texas. I really love this defensive front.
- 10:14Speaker 2: I think that having David Stone fully healthy, you avoided
- 10:17Speaker 2: a massive, massive injury that could have been detrimental to
- 10:19Speaker 2: your run defense. This could make Arch Manning have to
- 10:22Speaker 2: throw downfield. And I still like this secondary with the
- 10:24Speaker 2: Bowens and what you have with Guillory at the cornerback spot.
- 10:28Speaker 2: There still is a lot to like about them being
- 10:30Speaker 2: able to force turnovers, which is very possible in this
- 10:33Speaker 2: game for Oklahoma. But your offense can't do the exact
- 10:36Speaker 2: same thing when you get short field position. Or if
- 10:39Speaker 2: you end up giving up a field goal and now
- 10:41Speaker 2: it's 3-0. You can't be marching down the field and
- 10:45Speaker 2: then at the midway point, oh no, here's a strip
- 10:47Speaker 2: sack and now the ball is leading in favor of Texas.
- 10:50Speaker 2: So that's a big thing is that this offense right
- 10:52Speaker 2: now has still not found its rhythm. But the one
- 10:54Speaker 2: thing I said was that while Oklahoma had a bye week,
- 10:57Speaker 2: Texas had a bye week. So Texas got healthy. Texas
- 11:00Speaker 2: was able to look at the film and say, this
- 11:01Speaker 2: isn't working for us. This is what we have to
- 11:03Speaker 2: rely on. Hollywood Smothers did not play in that game
- 11:06Speaker 2: against Tennessee. And I'm not here to say that Hollywood
- 11:09Speaker 2: Smothers is the reason why Texas should be the most
- 11:12Speaker 2: intimidating factor for any roster out there. But you can
- 11:15Speaker 2: see clear as day which is the running back that
- 11:17Speaker 2: stirs the drink and which is the one that capitalizes
- 11:19Speaker 2: inside the red zone for points. Like there is a
- 11:21Speaker 2: difference between what Smothers does at an inefficient rate and
- 11:24Speaker 2: what Brown does at an efficient rate. So if he's
- 11:28Speaker 2: fully healthy in this game, you're going to have to
- 11:30Speaker 2: game plan on how to control him behind the line
- 11:32Speaker 2: of scrimmage like Tennessee did being able to win through
- 11:35Speaker 2: Leak Brown and not also give up the explosives downfield.
- 11:39Speaker 2: It's just a lot of things that need to go
- 11:40Speaker 2: in favor of an Oklahoma team. But I'll be real.
- 11:44Speaker 2: I've watched Oklahoma in the past look downright awful and
- 11:48Speaker 2: they found a way to win. I've watched Texas in
- 11:50Speaker 2: the past look downright unplayable and I've seen them come
- 11:55Speaker 2: out on top. So, I mean, this is one of
- 11:56Speaker 2: those games to where you do have to kind of
- 11:58Speaker 2: throw logic out. You just need one or two really
- 12:01Speaker 2: good quarters and a break or two that lean your way,
- 12:04Speaker 2: and it's going to lean in your favor to taking
- 12:06Speaker 2: home the Golden Cowboy hat. It just is.
- 12:09Speaker 1: Nine and a half point spread, Texas' way. Any way
- 12:13Speaker 1: that Oklahoma covers that, and give me a score.
- 12:16Speaker 2: Well, number one, as a native Texan that has gone
- 12:18Speaker 2: to this game multiple times in his life, I never
- 12:21Speaker 2: will ever, ever, ever bet on the Red River Shootout. Which,
- 12:24Speaker 2: by the way, is the only name you're allowed to
- 12:25Speaker 2: call it. I don't want to hear this AT &
- 12:26Speaker 2: T Red River rivalry crap.
- 12:28Speaker 1: That's not what it is.
- 12:29Speaker 2: You don't bet on this game. Because you're either going
- 12:32Speaker 2: to lose money or you're going to lose years off
- 12:34Speaker 2: of your life wondering when is the score going to
- 12:37Speaker 2: actually bode in our favor. So I'm just like, don't
- 12:40Speaker 2: touch it. Just leave it alone. There's a world where
- 12:42Speaker 2: Texas can easily cover this. They still have weapons like
- 12:45Speaker 2: Cam Coleman and Ryan Wingo, and Jermaine Bishop I think
- 12:47Speaker 2: is going to be a bigger factor in the offense
- 12:49Speaker 2: this week. They still have a really good run game,
- 12:51Speaker 2: and they have a defensive front that has no quit,
- 12:54Speaker 2: that can get after you, that can make a lot
- 12:55Speaker 2: of plays, that can make life pure hell for you.
- 12:57Speaker 2: But on the flip side, I think that Oklahoma may
- 13:00Speaker 2: have enough with the game plan in motion on what
- 13:02Speaker 2: they know is going to have to work for this
- 13:04Speaker 2: game to actually bend their way. to probably lean into
- 13:08Speaker 2: it and make it a four-quarter battle. I think that
- 13:11Speaker 2: while there are so many things to love about this
- 13:13Speaker 2: defense for Oklahoma, while there are so many things to
- 13:16Speaker 2: like about what maybe you can get with the receivers
- 13:19Speaker 2: or tight ends in space, I just can't trust John
- 13:22Speaker 2: Mateer right now. And I think that even with a
- 13:24Speaker 2: week-long of practice to be able to... Implement a new install.
- 13:29Speaker 2: Make things work with a tight end usage. Get a
- 13:31Speaker 2: little bit trickery with it. This is still a game
- 13:34Speaker 2: that Texas is probably going to be able just to
- 13:36Speaker 2: play enough in the fourth quarter to pull away late.
- 13:41Speaker 2: I will say this. If you make me pick right now,
- 13:43Speaker 2: I think Oklahoma covers the 9.5. I don't see a
- 13:46Speaker 2: scenario where they don't. So I take Oklahoma with the points.
- 13:49Speaker 2: But I think Texas wins by a touchdown. 24-17. It's
- 13:53Speaker 2: a really good defensive game. I think there's one or
- 13:55Speaker 2: two turnovers by both teams that are really critical on
- 13:58Speaker 2: scoring opportunities. I think Oklahoma capitalizes on one. Maybe Texas doesn't.
- 14:03Speaker 2: But late in the game, I think you're just going
- 14:05Speaker 2: to see one more explosive play from the offensive Texas.
- 14:08Speaker 2: Something like a busted run of 65 yards from Hollywood Smothers.
- 14:12Speaker 1: To pull away late.
- 14:14Speaker 2: I like it.
- 14:14Speaker 1: Cole, thank you for hanging out today. We appreciate our

- 14:25Speaker 2: Later, dude.
