- 0:50Let's do it. Here we go.
- 1:04Welcome to Hot. Welcome to Hot Takes with the
- 1:12Murph Man. I am the Murph man coming to you
- 1:13live here from Porter Studios in El Paso, TX.
- 1:16You're my Co host, Connor. How are we doing today, Connor?
- 1:19Doing good today my friend, how you doing today?
- 1:21I'm doing pretty damn good. It's October 3rd, Mean Girls
- 1:25day. Yep, I'm not a mean girl, but
- 1:29I'm just mean. Yeah.
- 1:31So have you ever seen Mean Girls?
- 1:33Nope. Oh man.
- 1:35Never. It, it, it's a, it's a movie you
- 1:37might want to watch one day. You know it.
- 1:39It's a pretty good movie. But I will tell you this, if you
- 1:43watch it, I guarantee you there's going to be a sequel to
- 1:46it at some point, if there hasn't been already, because
- 1:51everyone wants to know what happened to them when they grew
- 1:53up. So I don't know what's going to
- 1:54happen with that. And also got to tell you, I have
- 2:01been working with the local business and I'll be starting
- 2:05hopefully doing trivia every Friday night with them.
- 2:09And then Christmas is coming. I'm going to be doing a bunch of
- 2:11events at the dance hall. So I'm going to be pretty busy.
- 2:14I cannot wait for that to happen, you know, And I said,
- 2:17you know, maybe you want to go help me.
- 2:18And you're like, I don't know. Yeah.
- 2:22Yeah, the podcast enough, Yeah. So how's everyone else doing?
- 2:26I hope everyone's having a wonderful day here.
- 2:28Y'all ready to get the show started?
- 2:30Yeah, let's go ahead and unite the fuse.
- 2:40Today we are talking about managing your income and wealth
- 2:43growth in your 20s. Budgeting is the baseline
- 2:47foundation, but true financial independence is built through
- 2:50intentional daily habits. This episode helps you move from
- 2:54surviving to thriving by automating savings, crushing
- 2:58debt, and setting long term goals.
- 3:01Murph, man, take the mic. That's right, budgeting is the
- 3:05baseline foundation. But true financial independence
- 3:07is built through intentional daily habits.
- 3:10That is, we're going to be talking about today.
- 3:13You know, money and wealth don't come unless you win the lottery.
- 3:18Luckily, right. You got to do something.
- 3:20Even though the lottery, you have to buy tickets.
- 3:22Yeah, Right. Is the lottery a good way to
- 3:28plan for your future? No.
- 3:32No. And if you get the lottery, for
- 3:34how many years do you get your payments for, do you know?
- 3:37No. I think it's 30 years, OK, with
- 3:40every year going up in payments. But yeah, if you're spending to
- 3:44win the lottery, to be rich, not the best idea.
- 3:48You agree on that one? Yeah.
- 3:49All right. And then let me tell you this.
- 3:54Gambling, gambling and things of that nature, you know, people
- 3:59expect to turn it rich. And the only way I know in
- 4:04gambling, it's not guaranteed money.
- 4:07OK, but the only way you're going to break even is on
- 4:12roulette, betting red or black. Now you can bet green, I'm
- 4:16sorry, it'll hit green and you lose.
- 4:18But if you keep doubling your bet, they'll give you from $1.00
- 4:21to $2.00 to $4.00, whatever. You're going to eventually hit
- 4:24the number, you're going to win your money back.
- 4:26Does that make sense? But sometimes it does have a
- 4:29bankroll of several thousand if you want to really, really play
- 4:32long if it doesn't come right. And what I like about that is it
- 4:37gets you your points and your loyalty points and all that
- 4:39stuff, you know, while you're playing.
- 4:41But once you win, you're even, you haven't won yet.
- 4:45Does that make sense? You haven't won.
- 4:48So when you gamble again, you might win again, right?
- 4:57But you don't want to go with the same amount that you're back
- 4:59at 0 and you go back up into you when your money double again.
- 5:03And then we can try one more bit bet in one.
- 5:06If you win that you're now ahead.
- 5:09But you only had one, one tip. Whatever.
- 5:12The one tip is still something. Well, I well, yeah, I don't, I
- 5:15know you don't play with it, but you can actually say because
- 5:17what you do is everyone puts their chips on the table.
- 5:19You've seen that they give you different color tips.
- 5:22So you know what chips are yours.
- 5:24OK, so when you get it by a chip, you can say these chips
- 5:29are worth a dollar, five dollars, $10.20, whatever their
- 5:31their their chips are. So when you're betting one chip
- 5:35is still equal to that amount that you set up.
- 5:38So what they do is on their table, they put a little chip on
- 5:40top that gives the number 1510 whatever, right?
- 5:43But not one, it's obviously one, but it's 510 multiples of that.
- 5:46They have these little chips to put on top of your stack.
- 5:49So when when they're working with the color, they can say
- 5:51that color has that much on each one, you know, so, and we
- 5:55trained and gives you so it's, it's I like roulette.
- 6:01It's a random spin one out of 36.
- 6:03You know, that's not really good odds.
- 6:05And then now they have 00 and 000 that make it even harder to
- 6:09play. So don't ever play double or 000
- 6:11If you play roulette, only bet red and black.
- 6:14That's my advice. If you're up a lot and you want
- 6:17to bet a little bit on a number here or there, go ahead tip the
- 6:20dealer 2. Why?
- 6:22Because they can make the ball and where they want.
- 6:27I'm I'm sure they can. If they're really good, they can
- 6:29do that. If they've been there a while,
- 6:31they definitely can do it. If they're just, you don't know
- 6:33if they're just starting off right.
- 6:35But anyway, I digress. Before we get to the show, I do
- 6:37want to say Connor and I are both father and son.
- 6:45We're a duo here that we just talked about different subjects
- 6:49that come to mind during the show.
- 6:51Today's episode is going to be about investing in your future.
- 6:55But like right now I just talked about gambling.
- 6:56So we do that. And sometimes we get off
- 6:59subject. We just, we have ADD, what can
- 7:01we say? All right, let's just be aware
- 7:03of that. And whatever our opinions are
- 7:04there our opinions alone and no one else is right.
- 7:09Yeah, yeah. Your opinion.
- 7:10In my opinion, we don't, we don't rehearse this.
- 7:12This is fully live, so stay tuned.
- 7:16Let's get to today's burning question and get started.
- 7:27Today's burning question is what is the most powerful tool for
- 7:32building wealth? Option A Getting a high paying
- 7:36job. Option B Winning the lottery.
- 7:39Option C Starting to invest early.
- 7:43Option D having a good credit score.
- 7:47The heat is rising. Let's fan the flames.
- 7:53Fan in the flames. Fan in the flames.
- 7:56OK, you know that. 'D be funny.
- 7:59We had a fan back here and we just turned it on, right?
- 8:02No. No, we have a fan above us.
- 8:06We don't need a fan. Well, true.
- 8:08And actually Speaking of the fan above us, we're getting to the
- 8:11time we don't really need a fan anymore.
- 8:14How do you feel about this? Well, I I did it again.
- 8:19Hold on, Connor. It was no, well, we're talking
- 8:22about, I haven't even addressed the slide.
- 8:24I just started joking right away.
- 8:25So let me let me get to the slide so we can discuss that
- 8:28again. OK.
- 8:29Because I mean, you know, we we want our listeners to know where
- 8:32we are and then we can read the jokes about the weather later,
- 8:34Right. OK.
- 8:35OK. So what's the most powerful tool
- 8:41for building wealth? Getting a high paying job,
- 8:44winning the lottery, starting to invest early or having a good
- 8:46credit score. I would say having a good credit
- 8:49score. Oh, you think that's going to
- 8:52help you invest? I mean, you know, get rich a
- 8:54good credit score. That's only when you're
- 8:56borrowing money. I mean, it could give you a bit
- 9:00more opportunities for stuff. It it does, I'm not going to lie
- 9:04about that. It definitely does.
- 9:07And you're not going to mean debt, so you don't need to take
- 9:08loans. But that's the point.
- 9:11If you're investing early, which is C, right, you're investing
- 9:16and you're not having to borrow money put on credit cards.
- 9:23OK, we already had that whole thing.
- 9:25We'll talk about that more in depth later.
- 9:27But when when you're investing, it's the income you have that
- 9:34grows credit gives you credit cards.
- 9:38Now, if you've seen TikTok, they say like Elon Musk has $1.00 of
- 9:43income a year, right? He's a trillionaire or whatever
- 9:47he's going to be. Now he borrows money against his
- 9:51stock. It's not real money.
- 9:53That stock can go up or down. So his value can go up or down,
- 9:57you know, and they'll bank on him, they'll give him money and
- 10:00he uses that instead. But he he doesn't spend any of
- 10:04his own money, so to speak. So I want to get that rich or,
- 10:11or just your name, you know, gives you that.
- 10:13And what's funny is they give a good example of this in an 80s
- 10:16movie or early 90s called blink check.
- 10:19I don't know if you ever, I know I've shown you the movie.
- 10:21It's a little kid, a little like, you know, 1213 year old
- 10:24kid, maybe not even that old. And he finds $1,000,000 check or
- 10:31blink check. I should say it's built his
- 10:32blink check. It's a blink check, right?
- 10:37And he goes around to places. Oh, I lie, it is $1,000,000
- 10:41check. He goes around to places and he
- 10:43says, I want to cash this. No, we'll lend you the money
- 10:47because you're obviously can pay it.
- 10:49And he goes around, he rents a house, he throws party.
- 10:52He, he, he lives like a millionaire for it.
- 10:54Then, you know, at the end, the gangster who lost the check
- 10:57comes and finds them. But he didn't own any of that.
- 11:00None of that was his money. They gave him all that to make
- 11:05payments on because he showed the check that he said, oh, I
- 11:07can obviously afford to pay this if I choose to.
- 11:09Does it make sense? Because so if I have $1,000,000
- 11:14in the bank and I go to the bank and say hey, I need a home loan
- 11:17for 200, then I'll be like, oh, he has the money, let's give him
- 11:19the 200. If he doesn't, he can't pay.
- 11:21He'll just take it out of the money that he has.
- 11:22And that's where you make the payment.
- 11:24Whatever, right? So having the money saved does
- 11:28help you in the future with credit.
- 11:30OK. Also, I mean the money in the
- 11:35bank, it's only federally insured up into 250,000.
- 11:37So you have to split the accounts when you make over
- 11:42250,000, OK, If you want to have the have it insured by the
- 11:47government. Now if you're on time or one of
- 11:51these banks online doesn't mean that they're not strong, OK.
- 11:55But if they get bought out or they go under your, your
- 12:02interest rate and everything could change.
- 12:04Like right now my business account is bought up by a bigger
- 12:07bank, a more established bank. So that, that, that's cool for
- 12:11me because I get more services available to me, right?
- 12:17So sometimes it, it works in your advantage if you have one
- 12:19of those online accounts or not. But you also want to be careful
- 12:23with where you invest your money and where you put it for
- 12:25savings. You know, if you have $3,000,000
- 12:28and you lose $3,000,000 that that's a lot of money right, to
- 12:32get back only 250 for that. So there there's some accounts
- 12:36that will will give you more availability, more insurance,
- 12:39but there's a risk on the reinvesting like that even in
- 12:42banks. So just be aware of that.
- 12:46All right, let's get to today's hot take and find out what's on
- 12:49my mind. Today's hot take is this There
- 13:01is no such thing as good debt in your 20s other than a reasonable
- 13:05mortgage or a necessary education loan.
- 13:08Using credit to finance wants, even if you can pay it off, is
- 13:12financial complacency that robs you of your most valuable asset,
- 13:17the discipline to delay gratification.
- 13:22That's right. The discipline to delay
- 13:23gratification. OK.
- 13:25That's probably the hardest thing to do when you're trying
- 13:27to save money is go out and do that, OK?
- 13:33Because when you're there, you want to buy something
- 13:38immediately, you're not really thinking of the expenses or
- 13:40incurs, right? I'll tell you what.
- 13:42Let's go, let's take a quick break and when we come back,
- 13:44we'll talk about these things in more detail.
- 13:48OK, you ready? Yep.
- 13:51Let me see, where am I? It's time for a break.
- 13:56Hot takes with the Murph man. We'll be right back.
- 14:00We came. In yeah, that's came in again.
- 14:03The station where our veterans voices are heard.
- 14:06MBR talks. It's on the web, MB radio dot
- 14:11web according to the VA sewer. Fans are immediate attention and
- 14:26compassion. We must recognize and address
- 14:29the fact that every 24 hours, 22 veterans are losing their lives
- 14:33to suicide. The war doesn't always end when
- 14:36our veterans come home. The invisible wounds they carry,
- 14:40wounds that are real and heavy, require continuous support.
- 14:43No veteran should have to carry this burden alone.
- 14:47Many veterans experience stress and disconnection as they
- 14:50navigate life after service. But there is hope, there is
- 14:53help. And you are not alone in this
- 14:55fight. There's a vibrant community
- 14:57ready to support you, offering friendship, understanding, and
- 15:01shared experiences. You served your country.
- 15:03Now let us serve. You.
- 15:05Don't fight the toughest battle in silence.

- 15:19available 24/7. Every day we save lives.
- 15:23Your life is invaluable. And your service is honored.
- 15:26Let's work together to make 22 zero again.
- 15:29No veteran should face their struggles alone.
- 15:32Together, we can ensure every veteran finds the support and
- 15:35hope they deserve. He can't say oh but he still
- 15:41feels off season that on the TV about a dog batting soon.
- 15:48This is a man's best friend. Whoa.
- 15:54So he goes one day and he picks it up.
- 15:57Never thought a dog could bring so much love
- 16:31hands. We will do everything we can and
- 16:35and to make 22 zero again. Before we get back to the show,
- 17:01we pause for something that matters to me deeply.
- 17:04I was inspired by Ryan Spencer's song Make 22 Zero.
- 17:08Again, I'd like to remind you that help is always available
- 17:1224/7 365. If you ever feel you need
- 17:16support or are in crisis, call 988 and press one or text
- 17:22838255. There will always be someone
- 17:25ready to listen. Remember, you are not alone.
- 17:29That's right, you are not alone. How's everyone doing coming back
- 17:34from the break? I hope everyone's doing well.
- 17:38So let me tell you, we have a thought that today's hot take
- 17:46that we left off on and I want to get back to that, OK?
- 17:50There's no such thing as a good debt in your 20s other than a
- 17:53reasonable mortgage or necessary education loan.
- 17:56Now read that, Connor, a reasonable mortgage, right?
- 18:03Say you used to get a job coming out of college making 80 to
- 18:06$100,000 a year. You have 0 bills right now,
- 18:09right? How likely are they to give you
- 18:11a home loan? A good chance.
- 18:14A good chance you could get a four to $500,000 home loan
- 18:18coming out of college. Why do you think that would not
- 18:23be a good idea? I don't know, I don't know.
- 18:31You don't know what about you're starting a career.
- 18:35What if you get a job and you don't like and you quit?
- 18:37You're not got the money for the house.
- 18:40What if you do really good in the year or two, you get hired
- 18:44somewhere else and you're making more money.
- 18:46Now you have to make the payment on that house or sell it or rent
- 18:49it, which is not always the best idea for a house that big,
- 18:51right? OK.
- 18:55You could also incur more debt, like we have the school loan.
- 19:00OK, Right now your payments going to be 250 when you get out
- 19:03of college a month for 15 years, that's with one loan of 9000.
- 19:11If you get other loans right, imagine how big your payment's
- 19:16going to be. So you don't want to get into
- 19:19debt really big. If you want to buy a house, buy
- 19:21a small 150 two $100,000 home just for you.
- 19:23You got no family, got nothing, right?
- 19:26You get out of college, get a small, you can get an apartment
- 19:29and not have to worry about paying rent.
- 19:30When you leave an apartment contract, you just leave it and
- 19:32you're done. You know, but getting a house
- 19:36just because you can afford it is the worst idea when you don't
- 19:40know where you're going to be in the future.
- 19:42Now you say I need an El Paso. I well, I hope that's not true.
- 19:46I hope you do leave El Paso, Right?
- 19:48Not that El Paso is bad. Let me make that clear right
- 19:50now, if you come work for Meta. No, I'm kidding.
- 19:52I'm anyway. I'm not even going to go there.
- 19:58All right, time out. Let's go there.
- 20:01OK. I'm curious.
- 20:02I know you don't follow the news or you really don't care about
- 20:04certain things. What have you heard about Meta?
- 20:06Nothing. Nothing at all.
- 20:08Nothing. OK, I'm watching The Sopranos
- 20:10right now on HBO Max. Every commercial is repeated
- 20:14twice. Every commercial.
- 20:17Every commercial. I'm saying that every.
- 20:19That's how it is about Meta. We're here to help your
- 20:22community. We're going to return two times
- 20:25the amount of water that we used, where you can get that
- 20:28water from in bottled water. They're going to be in there
- 20:30pouring the water. You know what I mean?
- 20:33Another thing that they don't talk about with data centers.
- 20:35Now I want you to remember this. We're going to try it once it's
- 20:37open, but there's a data center in the town that was built
- 20:42behind some houses, right? And it has this exhaust or
- 20:48whatever you want to call it that the air whistling out and
- 20:52it's a high pitched all day long, 24/7 365.
- 20:59The the citizens had no choice. And it's just like El Paso.
- 21:02We have no choice. We got this management center.
- 21:05El Paso's already in a drought area, our aquifers going out and
- 21:11now we have to get water from, I mean, we have to give water to
- 21:14this meta center that's going to use it.
- 21:16That's not the best thing, right?
- 21:18So the area around it loses value because people don't want
- 21:23to be close to data center because of the sound and
- 21:25everything. They don't, they don't have
- 21:26talked about that, but that's one of the reasons, plus for our
- 21:30environment, it's all the water is going to be used up and the
- 21:35City Council gave them tax breaks.
- 21:37So they're using our water, but they're not paying the taxes on
- 21:41it. They're paying 20% of what they
- 21:43would be paying. Who do you think is picking up
- 21:45the other 80%? Us.
- 21:51What are we getting out of the middle center?
- 21:52Nothing. That's one of the things El Paso
- 21:54is really, really bad at is the politics of budgeting and
- 21:59everything. And there was like, for example,
- 22:00there were, this happens everywhere, not just El Paso,
- 22:03but we have as we had a city representative that used her
- 22:08personal gas card and she lent it out.
- 22:12Oh, not personal, but the, the county commissioner card, her
- 22:15card, they issue her, she lent it out to family members to use
- 22:18to put gas on it. So when they called her, she
- 22:22said, OK, I'll pay it back. That's not the point.
- 22:26The point is you stole and no what?
- 22:27No consequences. And that's on the C level.
- 22:30Imagine at the county, state and federal level.
- 22:34That's why vote, vote, vote. I've always told you, you may
- 22:40not think your vote counts and it may not in the long run,
- 22:43right. But like I talk about the the
- 22:47Bush and Gore election, they came down to like a few thousand
- 22:51votes. If one person in every city
- 22:55voted versus not voted, that made a difference.
- 22:59You don't think about that that one person in one city can make
- 23:02that change, you know. So be aware of that and vote for
- 23:07the midterms. You know, I'm not going to tell
- 23:09you who to vote for, but I'm just going to tell you vote.
- 23:12That's all I asked for. I don't think that's too much to
- 23:14ask for. What do you think, Hunter?
- 23:15Nope. When?
- 23:17When do we vote? I think early voting starts in
- 23:20two weeks and then the vote is the Tuesday, first Tuesday of
- 23:25the month. I think.
- 23:26I don't know the exact, I just know I'm going to be doing early
- 23:28voting, so that's all that matters.
- 23:30I'm not do not go on the day of the vote.
- 23:32I think last year we did go on the day of the vote and there
- 23:36was a line. There wasn't a long line, not
- 23:38last year, but the last time we voted where at the school.
- 23:43There was no line. Like, yeah, two or three people,
- 23:47right? Yeah, But that's that, that was
- 23:52the voting day in a part of town that nobody votes, right.
- 23:58So I knew it wouldn't be big if I if I take you to the voting
- 24:00lines this year. Like at the mall and all that,
- 24:02yeah. I'll well, yeah, but I'll take
- 24:05you to our actual quote UN quote where we're supposed to vote and
- 24:09I'm going to show you the line there.
- 24:10It's crazy. You have to be in line before 7.
- 24:14Now, if the line is 3 miles long, you're in line.
- 24:17They will stay open until those boats are in, right?
- 24:22But at 7, they shut the door. So yeah, it's pretty cool.
- 24:26I did it at our school. We were part of that, and we had
- 24:29the voting there. So I just had to get up on my
- 24:31break and go vote and come back, you know, Pretty cool.
- 24:36So another thing it talks about here is financing wants or
- 24:40needs. You know, financing wants or
- 24:44needs. What do you think the difference
- 24:47between the want they need is? Want something that you desire?
- 24:52Needs is something for survival. Right, exactly.
- 24:56Do you Remember Me talking about that or that is something you
- 24:58remember? Both.
- 24:59All right, good job. Perhaps anyone coming on TikTok?
- 25:07My eyesight's not that great. We have people that followed the
- 25:12hosts and Duck laughs. Can't really read the names that
- 25:16much. OK, Oh yeah, now that's well,
- 25:22thank you for joining our feed. We appreciate that.
- 25:25And we also have, you know, the feed with TikTok and YouTube and
- 25:28Twitch and all of that going on. So, yeah, it's, it's one of
- 25:40those things that, you know, we, we haven't done much of, you
- 25:49know, so let's keep that in mind.
- 25:52What wants and needs, people don't really think about that
- 25:55that much. They just go and do whatever
- 25:57they want. They don't really think about
- 25:59the impact that it's going to have on your, your life walking
- 26:07out at Hobby. Like for example, a friend of
- 26:09mine said Hobby Lobby lines are so long because they have
- 26:12regular cash registers. They just type it right.
- 26:16And the reason they type it, it gives you more time at the
- 26:23register. So those people at the front
- 26:24that are in line, they see the lines, they'll walk around the
- 26:28area while the line's there trying to get it down.
- 26:33So that is impulse buying, OK. All right.
- 26:44So yeah, wants and needs are very important when we talk
- 26:47about this. So let's get to today's terms
- 26:49that we're talking about, such as wants and needs.
- 27:14I don't know. The feed's not going out.
- 27:16That's weird. Everything was going good, now
- 27:19the feed's not going out. What do you think, Connor?
- 27:23Turn off the audio, the green button.
- 27:27Well, that's that's not it. Well, I mean, none of them have
- 27:30it so. I'm sorry, technical
- 27:31difficulties here. No, the audio just shows which
- 27:34was active, but I don't know what happened.
- 27:38We're not feeding through into remix.
- 27:44I don't know, we'll try one of the videos we had already, see
- 27:51if it still works all. Right, you guys.
- 27:55Quick break. We'll be right back.
- 28:03It's time for The station where our veterans
- 32:02voices are heard. MBR talk.

- 33:02takes with the Murph man technical difficulties.
- 33:06I hit the mute button as I pass my keyboard and I didn't realize
- 33:10that was happening. I do apologize about that.
- 33:12So let's get back to some of these terms, OK?
- 33:16Wealth building is something that we got to do all right?
- 33:19It's growing your wealth net worth through saving, investing,
- 33:23and smart money. And I'm going to go ahead and
- 33:24play this again because the video game played the last time,
- 33:27right? Now that the coals are laid,
- 33:32Murph Man, let's discuss the found.
- 33:42Before we dig in, let's clarify some of the key terms we'll be
- 33:46using today while laying down the coals.
- 33:49Key Term 1 Wealth building. Is growing through.
- 33:53Saving, investing and smart money management.
- 33:56Key Term 2 High interest debt is debt with steep interest rates
- 34:01like credit cards that should be paid off aggressively.
- 34:05Key Term 3 automation is setting up systems that move money into
- 34:09savings or bills without manual effort.
- 34:12Now that the coals are laid, Murph man, let's discuss the
- 34:15foundation. All right, so we talk about
- 34:18wealth, wealth, wealth, building your net worth through saving,
- 34:23investing and smart money. That is what wealth building is.
- 34:26All right? You want to build your wealth,
- 34:29how much you owe, your assets, all that stuff, right?
- 34:32Then you want the high interest debt is debt with steep interest
- 34:35rates like credit cards that should be paid off aggressively.
- 34:37What do you think is a high credit limit, high interest
- 34:41rate? I well what do you mean by that?
- 34:45Like the definition or like an example?
- 34:48A number What's considered high interest?
- 34:5217. Yeah, I'd say anything above a
- 34:5613 is too high. Most credit cards will have 20
- 35:00to 30, right? But if you can get lower than
- 35:0413, I think that's a good place to be 15 for credit cards.
- 35:09And then it talks about automation and setting up
- 35:11systems that move money into saving our bills without manual
- 35:14effort. So let's talk about it.
- 35:16We talked about that last week or two weeks ago, I should say.
- 35:20We talked about how the. What?
- 35:31I lost a dream of thought. Holy cow.
- 35:37Two weeks ago. Yes, I remember we said, we
- 35:41talked about setting up the savings.
- 35:42That's what I was trying to say savings.
- 35:44I couldn't think of the right word, the allotments, the the
- 35:51that's, that's the word I was looking for.
- 35:52The savings is not the word per SE, but when you get a check and
- 35:59you start working from the very first job, if possible, take out
- 36:0420 to $30 and put it directly into into your savings.
- 36:11So even as a working at Taco Bell, minimum wage, whatever,
- 36:17you can actually get savings started.
- 36:19And remember, we're talking about compounded interest and it
- 36:21builds on it. Those $30, if you get a pay
- 36:26raise, raise the $30 percentage wise to the raise.
- 36:32So if you get a dollar raise, which I really don't, we would
- 36:35get like $0.10 raises. We were happy with that.
- 36:38Yeah, be like, yay. But you get $0.10, increase it
- 36:43by three dollars or two, I mean $2.02, two cents, my two cents.
- 36:51No, increase it by two cents. That's 20% of the $0.10, OK.
- 36:57And as you make more money, go now if you're going to be like
- 36:59Connor, I don't know what your plans are in the future, but if
- 37:03you're working through college, you will need to do that.
- 37:07But when you get that first real big paying job, immediately take
- 37:12your 20% and Max out everything you can.
- 37:16Max out your IRA, your Roth IRA, you're investing at work, all of
- 37:22that. And those are 20% of your
- 37:25paycheck that you never see. It just goes in automatically,
- 37:27right? I told you when I die, you're
- 37:31going to get my retirement from the Texas Retirement System
- 37:33because I'm going to take half, right?
- 37:36And in return, you're going to get the payment every month
- 37:40that's 100 and $1500 that you don't expect to get.
- 37:42So that should go straight into your savings also.
- 37:46Now, hopefully I don't die anytime soon, but at the same
- 37:49time, I hope I die soon enough to where that money will do you
- 37:51good. Because, you know, if I, if I
- 37:53die at 100, you're going to be 50.
- 37:58Oh, no. Well, 70, 65 or 70, that money's
- 38:04not going to do much good, right?
- 38:06It'll help you with your living expenses, but other than that,
- 38:08you won't be able to invest it or anything.
- 38:09So, yeah, I I I think I'm going to live till about 85.
- 38:13That's what I think. That's my goal.
- 38:15Knock on wood. Yeah.
- 38:19You sure? All right.
- 38:20You want me to run that long another 30 years I.
- 38:24Don't mind it. 31 Actually, no, I can't do math. 28 Jesus
- 38:31Christ. OK, time to be truthful here.
- 38:35I went out last night and I'm hungover that that's sorry.
- 38:41Yeah, drinking my water, just basic water today, you know?
- 38:45But yeah, I was celebrating everything going out and, you
- 38:51know, it is what it is, right? But I'll tell you what, enough
- 38:54of my stories. Just get to our story of the
- 38:56fire. In today's story from the Fire,
- 39:07Darius set up automatic transfers to savings and debt
- 39:10payments. He barely noticed the money
- 39:13leaving, but after a year, he had saved $1200 and his credit
- 39:17card balance was gone. He learned that building wealth
- 39:21isn't about luck, it's about a consistent, intentional
- 39:24strategy. Murph, man, are you feeling the
- 39:27heat? That's right, Darius set up
- 39:42automatic transfers and savings and debt payments.
- 39:46He barely noticed the money leaving, but after a year, he
- 39:49had several. He had saved $1200, a $100 a
- 39:52month. That's all it takes.
- 39:53And now you have 1200. His credit card balance was
- 39:56gone. And he's building his his
- 39:59wealth. You know, we talk about wants
- 40:01and needs. Let me, let me.
- 40:04Let's talk about our trip. Which one?
- 40:07The one that we want to take in Christmas.
- 40:10OK, Connor's a big Bills fan. I'm a Denver Broncos fan.
- 40:16And I was like, OK, Bills are playing the Broncos in Denver on
- 40:21Christmas Day. And if you've been listening to
- 40:24our podcast for a while, you know, we talked about his mom
- 40:26who passed away. She passed away during the month
- 40:28of December. And I hate December because I've
- 40:32had several bad things happen to me in the month of December and
- 40:35I don't like it. So I try to leave town when I
- 40:38can and celebrate Christmas somewhere else.
- 40:42And I told Connor if I get assigned a class at the college
- 40:45this month, this year, a mini master, I'll have the money to
- 40:49go do that. And I got the money and I
- 40:52started planning the trip right away.
- 40:53Right, Connor? Oh yeah.
- 40:57And then while I was doing my budget, and again, I tell you I
- 41:01have this budget laid out and it has money coming in, money going
- 41:05out like a balance sheet. And I can tell you if I spend a
- 41:09penny now that penny affects me down the road.
- 41:12Anyway, I was doing it and I realized at some point I typed
- 41:17in a 15 in the place of my mortgage payment.
- 41:21That must have been a, a key swipe or something by mistake
- 41:24because I was scrolling through it.
- 41:26So I thought I had extra money, right?
- 41:30I didn't. And then another bill down the
- 41:36road is the program I'm using right now.
- 41:39I have a trial version of it, but I have to pay almost $800.00
- 41:42for the video mixer. That wasn't in my budget.
- 41:48It was before. I don't know how it got taken
- 41:51out. I, I, I, honestly, I really
- 41:52don't. So between those two, almost
- 41:56$2000. So the money I'm making from the
- 42:00college goes to pay that. And only this is a little bit
- 42:04for the trip, right? So looking at the budget, this
- 42:09is how you got to think about wants and needs.
- 42:10OK, Look at the budget. I can afford the tickets to the
- 42:13Broncos game, which are 1800. That's that's because we want
- 42:20good seats. We don't want to see ants
- 42:22playing on the field. And it's Christmas and.
- 42:25Yeah, and it's Christmas and you know, we're actually going to if
- 42:27if those tickets are available when I get my first paycheck,
- 42:31that's going to be some really good season.
- 42:32Won't even come out on the TV. We can put sign up with us.
- 42:37It can say Broncos suck and I can say Bill suck.
- 42:39And we point at each other. Yeah, You want to do something
- 42:43like that, see if we can come out on TV for Christmas.
- 42:45Yeah, that would be cool, right? We'll try anyway.
- 42:47So I can buy the tickets, but I cannot pay for the hotel and the
- 42:54car rental and our expenses while we're there.
- 42:58So right now I'm not going to worry about this until October
- 43:0225th, but October 25th comes, I have to make the decision if I
- 43:08want to buy the tickets or not. And then hopefully like I talked
- 43:13about, we're going to be doing trivia and everything, right?
- 43:16My contract that I have says you must pay me every month within
- 43:2230 days for my MC and everything that they pay me two weeks in
- 43:26advance. So between all of those events.
- 43:38All of those events are going to put money in my pocket in
- 43:42December if I get them scheduled, I get them on time
- 43:46and whenever they decide to pay me, right.
- 43:49So I'll say, OK, I have so many events right now, they're going
- 43:52to be two or $300 each, you know, and if I can get 10 events
- 43:57between now and Christmas, I'll have money to do all that.
- 44:02And it's a contract. It's not like, I mean, yeah,
- 44:04they can choose not to pay me, they don't like what I'm doing,
- 44:06whatever that can happen. But I know they'll like me
- 44:12because they've already hired me a few times, so there's not an
- 44:14issue there. Can I count on that money that I
- 44:18don't have? No.
- 44:23Even if it's a contract I know I'm going to get.
- 44:26It no. No, because like the the
- 44:27building could burn down, right? OK, Yeah.
- 44:30Yeah, right. And I have nowhere to work.
- 44:35So things can happen. And in a contract, it's got
- 44:37actually called force majeure that affects that.
- 44:42Now, one thing that we have to think about is as we're planning
- 44:48this, we have our money, we have everything that we want to do,
- 44:52OK? And as we're planning it, I can
- 45:00buy those tickets on October 25th that I already know, but I
- 45:06I don't know the actual. October 25th.
- 45:09Yeah, that's why I get paid my first check on the college.
- 45:13Look up real quick. Broncos sell out streak.
- 45:16This, this is a really interesting fact about my
- 45:18Broncos. How long do you think they've
- 45:22been sold out for Connor? I don't even know.
- 45:28Broncos hold the longest active home sell out dating back to the
- 45:32first game of the 1970 season. 440 games.
- 45:38So right now, if you go to the Ticketmaster, you'll see the
- 45:42reseller tickets. Those tickets are sold whether
- 45:45there's people buying them or not.
- 45:46They're sold, right? But being a Christmas game,
- 45:52maybe they'll be able to. Someone will want to buy my
- 46:01tickets. Now, I will tell you this, if I
- 46:04get to the point where no one buys my tickets by December
- 46:1123rd, if even if I need to, right?
- 46:13Yeah, we will drive on Christmas Eve or take off Christmas Eve
- 46:20morning, drive to Colorado, stay the night, watch the game.
- 46:28And I don't even know what time the game's at, but it's.
- 46:32Christmas, so it's. Let's look that up.
- 46:35Afternoon game, I think. I would, I would think so.
- 46:37All right. And we will drive back the next
- 46:43day, forget everything I want to do while I'm there.
- 46:46But if I'm spending $1800 on the game, then you then you know, I
- 46:55have to, I have to go spend those extra couple 100 and I'll
- 46:57be able the extra couple 100 bucks I can do, I can do
- 47:00everything I want. And it's an afternoon game.
- 47:03So it'll be over at 5:30. And we were to, if we were to
- 47:07drive home right after the game, OK, say 7:00, we would be here
- 47:12at 5:00 in the morning. If we were that broke, would
- 47:16that be worth it to go to the game?
- 47:187:00 in the morning, at night or at night, we leave.
- 47:23Right after the game, so we don't spend the money in the
- 47:24hotel hotel or we drive down to like a city in New Mexico and
- 47:28stay there the night and then leave in the morning.
- 47:32How far is it? It's a 10 hour drive.
- 47:36After the game would you want to do a 10 hour drive?
- 47:39I have no idea. I have no idea.
- 47:42What I'm saying though, is this is where we get to those wants
- 47:45and needs. How bad do you want it and are
- 47:53you willing to do what it takes to work for it?
- 47:55Could I do a side hustle between now and then?
- 47:57Save up money like go donate plasma or you know what I mean?
- 48:01Just not like, well, I meant like, you know, I'm just giving
- 48:07examples here for people how they want to make money.
- 48:09OK. And if you do that and you get
- 48:14money, you'll have some money. So the tickets at the 25th have
- 48:19to make a decision if I want to have money on Christmas, I can
- 48:26look where I can come back and you know, maybe decide where I
- 48:29was. Notice I'm not saying dip into
- 48:30my savings because that's not what it's for, all right, but
- 48:35move my budget around and say, OK, maybe I don't pay extra on
- 48:38this credit card this month or these two months and that gives
- 48:40me an extra couple 100 or you know what, you know what I mean?
- 48:44My bills are still getting paid, just not extra for a couple
- 48:47months. OK, you know, it is what it is.
- 48:50But when you're doing a budget and you have savings, you can
- 48:58make trips like this, You know, it's it's so cool.
- 49:01Now, I will tell you this. If I get a second class for
- 49:04whatever reason, I'm gone, right?
- 49:08Yeah. So I'm going to text my boss.
- 49:12Hey, do you need anyone last minute?
- 49:15But yeah, so The thing is saving automatically and having a
- 49:21budget is so important for times like this.
- 49:25It's not an emergency. I cannot dip into my savings
- 49:27plans for this. That's not how savings work.
- 49:29You need to have six months of savings up to a year of your
- 49:33salary so that if something happens, you can at least have
- 49:35six years to a month, I mean six months to a year for paying your
- 49:40debt. And then you can have another
- 49:41emergency fund for emergencies such as car repairs, new
- 49:46appliances. You know, I'd say keep that
- 49:48account should probably be in my opinion about 5000, right?
- 49:54Yeah. And then you have your own money
- 50:01that you spend on entertainment, gas, food, all of the other
- 50:04living expenses that are needs, needs.
- 50:08And you have part of that budget is once because you, you've got
- 50:12to have some spare money laying around, right?
- 50:17I would hope so. Spend it all and come back with
- 50:20nothing. Well, right, but I'm saying, but
- 50:23if you if out of the money you set aside every month, like for
- 50:27example, right now my my free budget is 202 twenty until
- 50:34Friday right now till payday, because every payday I
- 50:38separated. Yeah.
- 50:40I'm like, OK, so we can go out tonight and then we can go to, I
- 50:46can go on a date or two and then that's my spending money if I
- 50:52want to do that, right? Or I can say, hey, let's let's
- 50:55go and eat out at a fancy restaurant and spend $120.00 and
- 51:00not have money to really go out that many times.
- 51:02You know what I mean? So that that spending money has
- 51:05to go for budgets, costs, things that you need, little living
- 51:09expenses that you don't realize that you need until like for
- 51:12example, we need milk right now. OK, Oh my God, I didn't plan on
- 51:16getting milk, whatever, you know what I mean?
- 51:20And I didn't plan on getting milk.
- 51:21That's why we ran out. So so we got to go today to get
- 51:24milk. But money wise, I'm good
- 51:28planning. You need some help.
- 51:30OK. But let's talk about some of
- 51:32these steps you can take to improve you're investing and
- 51:38your savings. The heat map will show you where
- 51:50to focus your efforts for the most impact.
- 51:53Use the 5030 twenty rule. 50% needs, 30% wants 20% savings
- 51:59slash debt. This is a simple and effective
- 52:02framework for budgeting. Track every dollar for one month
- 52:06to find your spending patterns. You can't manage what you don't
- 52:09measure. Automate bill payments and
- 52:11savings transfers. This makes saving effortless and
- 52:15prevents late fees. All right, so automatic
- 52:21transfers to savings the day after payday.
- 52:24I've talked about this, right? That's something you got to do
- 52:26automatically use the debt snowball.
- 52:30Now let's let's talk about that real quick or the avalanche
- 52:32method. Pay off high interest debt.
- 52:36Well, you can look at the interest, you can look at the
- 52:38payment. If I pay all my small accounts
- 52:44and slowly add that money into my higher accounts, that's
- 52:48called a snowball effect, OK. If I pay the higher interest
- 52:53ones that usually have a higher payment like a car payment or
- 52:55something, and I pay that off, now that's a lot of money that's
- 52:59going to come down here like an avalanche and you pay off that
- 53:02like that. So there's there's two schools
- 53:04of thought, the snowball or the avalanche.
- 53:07I personally like the snowball because like for example, tax
- 53:12return, you get $1000 pay off 2 credit cards, that's $100 or
- 53:15whatever a month that now goes to another bill.
- 53:18That's a lot of money. So your $100, your $1000 tax
- 53:22refund becomes 1200 by the end of the year because you're
- 53:24actually having an extra 100 and you're not paying the interest
- 53:28on things anymore, right? So that's the, that's the method
- 53:32I like is a snowball method. Now, the avalanche method, if
- 53:36you get a windfall of income, like a tax return, that's $5000,
- 53:40OK, paid off the higher ones because that's going to give you
- 53:43more payment, right, to put into the lower ones and pay those off
- 53:49quicker. And then there's no balling from
- 53:51there. So that's how I do it.
- 53:53You guys are, again, I'm not a financial expert.
- 53:57I haven't stated the Holiday Inn.
- 53:59I'm just talking because these are my experiences.
- 54:01Do you know what I said the Holiday Inn?
- 54:02No, because like picture, there's an accident and the guy
- 54:08walks out and he tells the paramedics, oh, it looks like a
- 54:10open fracture to the tibia and whatever, whatever.
- 54:13Oh, are you a doctor? He's no, but I stayed at a
- 54:14Holiday Inn last night. That was their commercials.
- 54:18And it was you're so rested that you can handle anything after
- 54:22staying at the hotels. No, not a doctor.
- 54:26I just stayed at the Holiday Inn last night.
- 54:28So for a while that was a trend and everyone was saying in the
- 54:31in the conversation, wow, how'd you?
- 54:33Oh, I just stayed a Holiday Inn last night.
- 54:35Stupid. Anyway.
- 54:36So that's the reason you don't want to stay there because I've
- 54:39been commercial. No, I stay there.
- 54:41That's the hotel downtown. Oh, you said like, not why?
- 54:44Am I getting the hotel? That's another story, but OK,
- 54:46Yeah, yeah. You know, what I'm saying is
- 54:50we're not financial experts. We're just us.
- 54:54I did not stay at the hotel last night.
- 54:55See that? Because otherwise I'd be smart
- 54:57and giving out tax advice and everything.
- 55:00All right. And last but not least is the
- 55:02high yield savings account for short term goals.
- 55:05This is where your emergency fund and vacation money should
- 55:08live. So let's talk about that.
- 55:12If you invest in ACDA certificate of deposit, you give
- 55:17the bank $100 right now and in six months, three months, a
- 55:21year, night, whatever term you pick, you can't touch that.
- 55:25You can't, I mean like there has to be like a true life or death
- 55:28emergency to get it out. At the end of the term you have
- 55:32100 plus whatever the interest is automatic guaranteed because
- 55:36you put in at this rate. That's what I'm going to do.
- 55:38And because it's it's the CD, they give you a little bit
- 55:40higher interest rate. OK.
- 55:42So if you have $1000, you can put it in an account that's like
- 55:46$100 for three months or six months and another $100 for nine
- 55:53months, another $100 for 12 months.
- 55:55So all of a sudden when this starts coming in the year every
- 55:59369 and 12 months, you're going to be able to get that money out
- 56:03and invest it again. But if you need it, you'll have
- 56:06it. So that's, that's one way to
- 56:08have that with those kinds of high yield savings.
- 56:12And you know that again, it says that's your emergency fund and
- 56:19vacation money. I disagree.
- 56:23Vacation money, I'm sorry, Emergency funds should be
- 56:26separate altogether in a savings account you can pull anytime
- 56:29because it's an emergency. ACD you can't do that.
- 56:32A vacation fund, though, Yeah. Because some CDs let you put
- 56:36money in every month by the end of the 12 months for your
- 56:40vacation because, you know, we plan so far in advance.
- 56:45Yeah, that money will be there. So that's.
- 56:49That's another way to consider saving your money as a CD.
- 56:53OK. Now, I've never heard any other
- 56:56culture or people that do this is and I'm trying to sound
- 57:06racist, but it's a Hispanic thing, OK?
- 57:12It's called a tanda. Have you heard of this?
- 57:15No, OK, People get together, mostly housewives, and they each
- 57:21put in $200 a month or a week or whatever they choose, right?
- 57:26So they put in $200 a month and then every week they pick a
- 57:31random person and then they have an order from there.
- 57:35So the first week everyone puts 200 and Connor gets it.
- 57:38Next week we put $200 in, Sean gets it.
- 57:42And you just keep this going. So it's a way of holding on to
- 57:44money, right? You're not making any money on
- 57:47it. It's just a way of holding it.
- 57:52So that's that's one way they save money with the Thundus.
- 57:55OK, that, that's something that you'll hear if you're getting
- 57:59married into a Mexican household.
- 58:00The time does. I think this is, this is so
- 58:06stereotypical, but I'm so bad. I think it's probably because
- 58:11people were not here legally and they couldn't open Bing
- 58:15accounts. They had to figure out a way to
- 58:17put their money in and save it. Does that make sense?
- 58:21Now they could. You've heard stuffing under the
- 58:23bed or in the freezer or whatever.
- 58:25That's why things like that happen.
- 58:27But what do you think is the drawback to a Thunder No.
- 58:32One just banned it. Well, that's the point.
- 58:36Someone could get their money and be like, I'm sorry, I can't
- 58:39do this anymore. And what can you do?
- 58:43Sue them? No.
- 58:46So there's people that actually do that.
- 58:47They enter a Thunder, they don't put their money in.
- 58:50I mean, they put their money in for one or two times and then
- 58:52when they finally get paid, they're like, I'm out and they
- 58:54don't care about the rest of the months, you know?
- 58:56So don't do it if you can. Don't do a Thunder.
- 59:00That's my opinion. That's my hot take.
- 59:02That's my thoughts on this, OK. OK.
- 59:07I'll tell you what, it's the top of the hour.
- 59:10I think we should take a break here.
- 59:11What do you think? Yeah, I think so too.
- 59:14Now this song is by Matt Oakley called Single this summer.
- 59:18I got to tell you, I I love this song, I really do.
- 59:22I don't know why, I just like it.
- 59:24I hope you enjoy it as well. We'll be right back after the
- 59:26break. It's time for a break.
- 59:30Hot takes with the Murph man. We'll be right back.
- 59:55Our Stoops cigarette smoke where the dive bar bands played in all
- 1:00:01the wrong notes, them dollar bill still hanging on the wall.
- 1:00:06Yes, ain't no place for her kind at all.
- 1:00:10She had any red bottoms on and it's blue collar time.
- 1:00:14There's only two reasons why girls like her come around and
- 1:00:18took her wrong turn. Diagnosed and she's looking for
- 1:00:23love because she lost it. We shoot bring your wine and
- 1:00:29burning leaning on the chest for a little silent comfort just
- 1:00:34trying to take the move right under the knee all moonlight
- 1:00:41she's chasing her free arm little nature, little trapping.
- 1:00:46Make her your mind by the end of the night.
- 1:00:49I'm a bit away from the number. Try to keep her from being
- 1:00:57Sango. This Sir, Sunset, sunrise nights
- 1:01:10live in my thank till they might just be worth me after all.
- 1:01:17Till you can't find love till you fall.
- 1:01:23Red dirt roads feel like calm and it looks so big safe.
- 1:01:31If the song brings clothes in me, We've 2 friends bringing out
- 1:01:42each other for a little southern company.
- 1:01:46Move round underneath thy moonlight, the Jesus children
- 1:01:53are free. I'm trying to make your mind by
- 1:01:58the end of the night I'm a good life away from now.
- 1:02:04Trying to keep her from being. These two flames burning red
- 1:02:19wine and bourbon leaning on each other for a little Southern
- 1:02:23Comfort just trying to sit the more right underneath your mow
- 1:02:26your eyes. She's chasing everything on you
- 1:02:29love me little maker. My mighty end of the night I'm
- 1:02:36going to land only from normal. Try to keep her.

- 1:04:44galaxies give one to us. Why not now?
- 1:04:48Real quick, Speaking of gaming, did you see Selena Gomez video
- 1:04:52when she was actually at live on TikTok one day and they were
- 1:04:54donating like unis and stuff to her or galaxies.
- 1:04:59And she's like, oh, look at this, they're giving me a Galaxy

- 1:05:13And I'm like, OK, those people can come to MBR talk Roku and
- 1:05:17give us the money, right? Yeah, right.
- 1:05:22And I say US meaning military broadcast radio, not me.
- 1:05:24If you want to give me money, it's pure hot takes.
- 1:05:27Anyway, let's get to the places you're going to get burned and
- 1:05:31those pitfalls to avoid. 800 bucks?
- 1:05:39I don't fucking think so, but OK.
- 1:05:41Let's talk about where you'll get burned regarding common
- 1:05:44financial pitfalls. Common mistake one.
- 1:05:47Waiting until you make more money instead of starting small
- 1:05:51right now. Common mistake 2 treating
- 1:05:54savings as optional rather than making it automatic and
- 1:05:57invisible. Back to Murph, Man for the
- 1:05:59warning. Back to Murph Man and Connor
- 1:06:04here at Pure Hot Antiques. This is the Murph man.
- 1:06:08I am the Murph man. This meant call is Connor.
- 1:06:10How you doing? After.
- 1:06:12Through the show. Yeah, I'm messing with him.
- 1:06:16That's how we start the show. I'm like, hey, how you doing?
- 1:06:22Yeah, you almost went into the automatic script, right?
- 1:06:24Yeah. Well, not automatic, but I mean,
- 1:06:27you know, we have. I say this and my response.
- 1:06:28Yeah. We don't have a script.
- 1:06:30We don't have a script, yeah, but we.
- 1:06:32Did we wouldn't be making mistakes and we wouldn't be
- 1:06:35talking about random stuff like Selena Gomez.
- 1:06:41Just, I don't know, we're just a little like break and then be
- 1:06:43like, oh, talk about Selena. Like, you know, what's
- 1:06:45interesting is on the streaming platform we use, you can have
- 1:06:50teleprompter and you can have the notes in front of you as
- 1:06:54you're reading, right? I can have them on a different
- 1:06:57screen that we have here and everything.
- 1:06:59But that's not what this show's about.
- 1:07:02Even though I do have certain things I will talk about.
- 1:07:05Let's talk about right now. Let's talk about those pitfalls
- 1:07:08you're going to have in our segment where you're going to
- 1:07:09get burned waiting until you make more money.
- 1:07:12Instead of starting small right now, that's a given.
- 1:07:15Start small and just keep investing for your whole career,
- 1:07:19treating savings as an optional rather than making it automatic
- 1:07:23and invisible. If you follow the advice of just
- 1:07:30automatically taking money out, taking money out every paycheck,
- 1:07:39and you don't look at it. Wow.
- 1:07:41And what's really cool is if you have an account with somebody
- 1:07:47you can trust, I wouldn't give it give it to a wife, but
- 1:07:51someone you know is going to be around for a while, you can ask
- 1:07:55for accounts where it requires dual signature to take money
- 1:08:00out. So you both have to be present
- 1:08:03to be there. If you have a joint account,
- 1:08:08well, one person can take out money whenever they want, you
- 1:08:12know, So that's not really the best thing, right?
- 1:08:14But for savings account, you want to have a dual log in and
- 1:08:18all that good stuff or get it yourself and no one else.
- 1:08:25If you're impulsive, you might want to have some some way of
- 1:08:28limiting that money. All right.
- 1:08:33And the last is ignoring high interest debt instead of facing
- 1:08:36it, planning for it and crushing it.
- 1:08:40OK, high interest debt is not something you you want, trust
- 1:08:45me, because like if I have $100 balance at the end of the year,
- 1:08:48I'm going to owe 130, right? Even though I'm making my
- 1:08:53payment. Think about that.
- 1:08:58That money you save if you have a $500 limit or 1500 dollar
- 1:09:02$2000 limit, 35% of that a year. So yeah, 2000, that's 600 a year
- 1:09:12that it increases. If you're making a $50 payment
- 1:09:14on it, your balance is not going to go down.
- 1:09:17And what's funny is there's when you look at your credit card
- 1:09:20statement, it says if you pay the minimum amount, it will be
- 1:09:24paid off in X amount of years and months.
- 1:09:29And you could have a $1500 loan paying minimum.
- 1:09:33It could take up to 10 years to pay it off.
- 1:09:36Oh wow. 7 to 10 years, depending on the interest rate.
- 1:09:39Yeah. So avoid the high interest stuff
- 1:09:42if you can. Well, how do you avoid it,
- 1:09:43Connor? You get the heat Shields and
- 1:09:46those heat Shields are going to be what protect you from getting
- 1:09:50burned. Here it is.
- 1:10:00Here are your heat Shields. Intentional preparation Dedicate
- 1:10:05focused time to research and planning to protect yourself
- 1:10:08from the negative impacts of unpreparedness. self-assessment.
- 1:10:12Use self evaluation as a shield to understand your current
- 1:10:16standing before moving forward. External pressure defense.
- 1:10:21Safeguard against outside pressures and maintain steady
- 1:10:24progress when transitioning to the next stage.
- 1:10:27Murph, man, what's next? Well, what's next is we're going
- 1:10:34to talk about those heat Shields that I love so much because this
- 1:10:36is where you have the ability to stop things from happening and
- 1:10:42from burning you, OK? It's not hopeless.
- 1:10:47You can definitely do this. And if for some reason fall in
- 1:10:49the pitfall, guess what? You can make it up, OK?
- 1:10:53Intentional preparation, where you focus on the research and
- 1:10:57planning to protect yourself from the negative impacts of
- 1:11:00unpreparedness. Intentional preparation, that's
- 1:11:04what I'm doing. I can tell you right now, I have
- 1:11:07my budget set for how much money I need to spend all my bills,
- 1:11:10whether I get paid at my business or not.
- 1:11:12If I get paid at the business, then it gets taken care of and
- 1:11:14that's money in my pocket, right?
- 1:11:17You want to get to the point where it's automatic and it
- 1:11:20takes care of itself where you don't have to be in, you know,
- 1:11:22keeping it up. And that's how savings works.
- 1:11:24You want to have it there and when you need it, it's there.
- 1:11:29Now, again, I'm going to digress here just for a second that
- 1:11:34long, but Stephen Covey talks about that as an emotional bank
- 1:11:37account when he talks about relationships.
- 1:11:39If you have a relationship with somebody and all it is, is
- 1:11:43negative, they're draining you. It's like a bank account.
- 1:11:47If you're not putting anything into that bank account when it's
- 1:11:49time, you got nothing to pull. So how does that work with
- 1:11:53people? When people abuse you, take
- 1:11:55advantage of you, don't listen to you.
- 1:11:56They, they don't treat you nicely or anything.
- 1:11:59Why should you do something for them because their bank account
- 1:12:02with you is drawn or sometimes overdrawn.
- 1:12:06And there's people that are like, no, I can still get paid
- 1:12:09and take money out again and get paid.
- 1:12:11You're losing hundreds of dollars or whatever.
- 1:12:13But if you're in a relationship, what's that costing you
- 1:12:15mentally, emotionally and physically, Right.
- 1:12:20So, yeah, just remember that emotional bank, how my Stephen
- 1:12:23Covey. Now back to the show, self
- 1:12:27assessments. Use a self evaluation tool to
- 1:12:31understand your current standing before moving forward.
- 1:12:33What could you use for that? Well, if you go to your bank
- 1:12:35account, you can type in spending habits and it will tell
- 1:12:40you, you spend this much on entertainment, this much on gas,
- 1:12:42this much on food, this much on eating groceries.
- 1:12:45It breaks it down for you, right?
- 1:12:47So you actually go in there and type your categories.
- 1:12:48It helps you keep track of where your money is going.
- 1:12:51And when you sit back and you look, OK, I had this much money,
- 1:12:54where was it going? And you look and you're like,
- 1:12:59damn, that's that's a lot of money.
- 1:13:03You know, like one thing, we eat out a lot.
- 1:13:05And you tell me constantly, we have food at home, right?
- 1:13:09We do. We do when I have nothing to do,
- 1:13:13we'll eat at home. But guess what?
- 1:13:15I always have something to do. Yeah.
- 1:13:17So it's really hard to to plan for that.
- 1:13:22So yeah, it just, it's one of those things that you got to
- 1:13:24really look at and understand. Now what I want you to do is I
- 1:13:32want you to think about those questions you have to ask
- 1:13:37yourself and see where you stand.
- 1:13:39We call that segment the Afterburn.
- 1:13:50In today's Afterburn, here are some questions for you to
- 1:13:53reflect on. Reflection question one.
- 1:13:56What's 1. Financial habit I want to
- 1:13:58automate. Reflection question 2.
- 1:14:01How can I make saving feel rewarding, not restrictive?
- 1:14:05Reflection question three. What does wealth mean to me
- 1:14:09beyond money? Murph, man, time for your final
- 1:14:12thoughts. The financial habit that I want
- 1:14:18is there's automatic payments, so you don't forget payments,
- 1:14:25OK? For example, let's say my
- 1:14:28mortgage is an automatic payment, right?
- 1:14:31Every payday, boom, it gets taken out.
- 1:14:33Everything's fine, right? But what if you screw up and you
- 1:14:37budget? Like I didn't screw up the
- 1:14:39number on your budget and I'm expecting $50.00 to be taken out
- 1:14:43based on my budget, and 1200 gets taken out.
- 1:14:48That's not going to be good, right?
- 1:14:53Or what if in some cases you need to postpone a payment a
- 1:14:56little bit like your utilities, you can skip it and pay double
- 1:15:05next month, right? Like Spectrum.
- 1:15:08There was one time I forgot to add it.
- 1:15:12I thought I paid it and I hadn't and I deleted it on my budget.
- 1:15:17And then when it came time to get my next bill, I it was twice
- 1:15:21double was due and I'm like, what?
- 1:15:22Why? And then I went back and
- 1:15:24realized what I did, you know, if I had had an automatic
- 1:15:27payment, the money would have been taken out.
- 1:15:28I would have been fine because it's part of my budget, right?
- 1:15:32But if I needed the money for, let's say, a car repair, you
- 1:15:36know, and OK, let me postpone this a little bit.
- 1:15:39I can't if it's automatic payments.
- 1:15:42So there's some. And then the other thing is,
- 1:15:44let's say I get paid on the 20th, but my Bill's not due to
- 1:15:46the 25th. I could pay everything on the
- 1:15:4820th and get out of the way. You've seen me payday morning.
- 1:15:51Boom, everything's done, right? But there's some bills that are
- 1:15:55auto pay that I have to wait for.
- 1:15:58And I hate that. I really hate that because if
- 1:16:00you try to pay some bills ahead of time, they still take out the
- 1:16:02automatic payment. So those are the kind of things
- 1:16:05that can happen, and you really, really, really don't want that
- 1:16:10to happen. OK, And last but not least, what
- 1:16:13does wealth mean to you beyond money?
- 1:16:16How about you, Connor? What do you think wealth is?
- 1:16:18How do you know you're wealthy? You're mentally good, you're
- 1:16:26financially good, your self esteem goes up if you know you
- 1:16:33have something in your life. Yeah, but I mean, also, even
- 1:16:41it's beyond money, money still is a big thing to it.
- 1:16:45So I don't have to say just living good, don't have to
- 1:16:50stress about anything. Have your savings, your
- 1:16:54emergency fund, all of that set up right?
- 1:16:56Yeah. If you have everything set up, I
- 1:16:58would say that's wealthy. Now, have you ever heard of the
- 1:17:01term generational wealth? Warren Buffett, the rich, one of
- 1:17:07the richest men in the world, has said when he died, his
- 1:17:10money's going to go to charities.
- 1:17:13His children are not getting a penny.
- 1:17:16He's like, if they didn't do anything with their life to
- 1:17:18succeed, that's on them. Who was the other person?
- 1:17:26How did he even get rich? Investing in Wall Street and
- 1:17:29stuff. Oh, who was the guy that talked
- 1:17:35about that? It was a celebrity that talked
- 1:17:37about that. Asked about what?
- 1:17:45God, I can't remember the celebrity.
- 1:17:47But anyway, he's somewhere with his kid and his kid goes, hey,
- 1:17:50can we buy that? He goes, do you have the money
- 1:17:52for it? He goes, Dad, you have the money
- 1:17:55for that and he goes, yeah, I got the money for that.
- 1:17:59But do you if, if I can remember the actor, that's it.
- 1:18:04It'd be funnier because you know who's saying it?
- 1:18:07But yeah, you cannot depend on me having money to give you when
- 1:18:13I die, besides life insurance. But you know what I mean?
- 1:18:16Like generational wealth where you can carry on.
- 1:18:19Like if I, for example, if I pass away, are you going to keep
- 1:18:21the business going and are you going to keep doing trivia for
- 1:18:24me that you know what I mean? Yeah, that's money, but it's not
- 1:18:27wealth because it's not saved up.
- 1:18:29It's used. You know, if I die, the business
- 1:18:30die, it's done. OK.
- 1:18:35So it it's important to understand that so that you're
- 1:18:39able to worry about yourself and not depend on other people.
- 1:18:46OK. Now one thing I will say is if
- 1:18:49you were married and you both are going to retire, when you
- 1:18:55retire at at a normal age 65 1/2, you can qualify for your
- 1:19:03spouse's benefit if they're higher.
- 1:19:05Like if if a housewife, right was a housewife and you were
- 1:19:09married for 10 years, then you get divorced.
- 1:19:13Well, it's not that house. I have to take care of herself.
- 1:19:16OK. But when she retires, if she
- 1:19:19never works another day in her life and the husband keeps
- 1:19:22working and earning his retirement, she can file for his
- 1:19:26retirement. He doesn't get affected, but it
- 1:19:30she gets that much more money. OK, so I tell people for
- 1:19:34disability and things like that, you have to work a certain
- 1:19:36amount of quarters. You get one point for every
- 1:19:39three months. So you need 40 points to get
- 1:19:41Social Security and that is 10 years of work.
- 1:19:48So always have money coming in and like for example, I have my
- 1:19:52teacher retirement and when do we get the the points?
- 1:20:00When we work at a job for three months and you get points.
- 1:20:05Like right now you have two or three points in your career.
- 1:20:09Is it how many ever many months you worked?
- 1:20:10OK, you have 17 or 37 to go. Keep track of that if you ever
- 1:20:18get a job like teaching, because once you go to teaching, you
- 1:20:22lose the retirement points, OK? And there's people you're like
- 1:20:27our cousin or your cousin, she's going into teaching at a very
- 1:20:30young age and she's going to have that retirement.
- 1:20:33All her money is going to go into that account and that's
- 1:20:34retirement. Great.
- 1:20:36But the government benefits, disability and everything don't
- 1:20:39count if you don't have any of that, OK?
- 1:20:43So you need to be able to work a paying job 10 years out of your
- 1:20:52lifetime. And it doesn't really matter how
- 1:20:55much you're making. If you're making $10 a week and
- 1:20:57it's just one day a week, and that's what you do for the rest
- 1:20:59of the 10 years, then you're paid.
- 1:21:02You have a Social Security income.
- 1:21:03You don't have a lot, but the disability and insurance and all
- 1:21:06that benefits can kick in. OK, when when you're thinking
- 1:21:14about that and you realize I can do X amount of things, then do
- 1:21:21it right. You know, go out and do
- 1:21:28different things and see what happens.
- 1:21:30If you can do that, then you're good.
- 1:21:33Or you can put all your money in one bread basket and that's all
- 1:21:36you're going to have. For example, Social Security.
- 1:21:39My whole life I've been talking that Social Security now, the
- 1:21:42amount that I'm expecting, I'm not going to have because they
- 1:21:45have to take money out of savings account or the
- 1:21:47government because they can control their spending.
- 1:21:50Yeah. You know, we have $40 trillion
- 1:21:53of debt in the country and it just keeps going up and up and
- 1:21:55up. One person is responsible for a
- 1:21:58lot of in the last eight years or 12 years.
- 1:22:01OK. But the first time I gave him a
- 1:22:03break because it was COVID and everything and people were just
- 1:22:06getting money left and right. But right now he's gone up 4
- 1:22:09trillion in two years. How much is he going to take up
- 1:22:12the the debt? You know, they're doing nothing
- 1:22:15to balance their budget. City government, state
- 1:22:18government, county governments, everyone is not balancing their
- 1:22:20budget. And look what happened with the
- 1:22:23school districts. They they had to fire a lot of
- 1:22:25people to get the job soon. Oh, yeah.
- 1:22:28OK. So, yeah, it's it's it's not a
- 1:22:30good thing. These are big corporations that
- 1:22:33can't even save their money. So what do you think the little
- 1:22:36people are like us are going to do?
- 1:22:38Nothing. Yeah, nothing.
- 1:22:40But. All right, let's get to another
- 1:22:44quick break and we'll be right back.
- 1:22:47It's time for a break. Hot takes with the Murph man.
- 1:22:50We'll be right back. I'm stepping out this hotel
- 1:23:18window and floors above. What's missing down there is

- 1:23:37time amigo. So glad seeing you.
- 1:23:44I'm going to be seeing you around everybody else amigo.

- 1:24:29Tell me you don't like it. We got for a moment.
- 1:24:34We don't surprise it. Adios, amigo.
- 1:24:41So glad seeing you. I'm gonna be seeing you around.
- 1:24:50Adios, amigo. I've been looking for it.
- 1:25:26Step aside and breathe, play a little in the street.
- 1:25:32Hope it's not me they're sending all these fences, they eating,
- 1:25:45mending. So glad I seen you.
- 1:25:55I won't be seeing you around yous amigo.
- 1:25:57I've been looking for you since I stepped board in this town.
- 1:26:12Yous amigo see you. I won't be seeing you around.

- 1:28:07The website is purehottakes.com. So check it out.
- 1:28:10Why pure hot takes? Because hot takes with the
- 1:28:11Murphy has too long of a website.
- 1:28:13I try to make it shorter. But Speaking of technology, I
- 1:28:18want to get to my favorite part is technology for this.
- 1:28:22So let's hear the digital inferno.
- 1:28:32Automation is mandatory for building wealth.
- 1:28:36Automated investing. Utilize high yield savings
- 1:28:39accounts and robo advisors like Betterment or Wealthfront to
- 1:28:43automatically invest money into low cost index funds the day you
- 1:28:47get paid. Compound interest growth.
- 1:28:50Leverage digital tools to ensure your money is constantly
- 1:28:54leveraging compound interest for effortless growth paralysis
- 1:28:58prevention. Free yourself from the
- 1:29:00paralyzing fear of when or how to invest, allowing your money
- 1:29:04to grow effortlessly. Back to Murph Man to close the
- 1:29:08segment. All right, so automated
- 1:29:13investing, utilize high yield savings accounts and robo
- 1:29:16advisors like Betterment or Wet Wealthfront to automatically
- 1:29:20invest money into your low cost index funds the day you get
- 1:29:23paid. If you go into like say mutual
- 1:29:27America, that's one I used to use.
- 1:29:30And you say, these are the places I want my money to be
- 1:29:32going to. So next month, that's where they
- 1:29:35start. So that doesn't automatically
- 1:29:38for me. The money just goes in and they
- 1:29:39split it the way I want them to split it.
- 1:29:41So you can keep track of you can also say, oh, transfer from this
- 1:29:44one to that fund because I want to use this, you know, so that
- 1:29:47the investing, like I said, this is not investing advice.
- 1:29:50I'm not a an investment plan or anything.
- 1:29:53I'm giving you things you can do to invest.
- 1:29:56If you need that, go talk to an expert because I'm not it all
- 1:29:59right. Also, compound interest growth,
- 1:30:01growth leverage digital tools to ensure your money is constantly
- 1:30:05leveraging compound interest constantly is the word, the
- 1:30:09keyword there. It's building interest no matter
- 1:30:12what, OK? It builds interest no matter
- 1:30:18what. That's what I like about this
- 1:30:23and believe me, your interests will show when you're down the
- 1:30:27road it it comes automatically. And last but not least,
- 1:30:31paralysis prevention for yourself from the paralyzing
- 1:30:34fear of when or how to invest, allowing your money to grow
- 1:30:38effortlessly. And the the best advice I got of
- 1:30:42the, the best investor I know buy stocks and bonds of products
- 1:30:47you know and like you know. But I'm going to give you 1 tip
- 1:30:53right now. Invest in copper.
- 1:30:58Copper. Copper, there is a new
- 1:31:01technology out there. One of the hardest things to do
- 1:31:06is cool down. These supercomputers are using
- 1:31:09for AI. Well, researchers just found a
- 1:31:13system that they use with pure copper, like 99.95% that the way
- 1:31:19they have it set up with math and the algorithm and
- 1:31:22everything, it keeps the cost down of super cooling.
- 1:31:27And we're talking like 1/10 of a percent of what it is now.
- 1:31:34A lot different, OK, Saves a lot of money and everything.
- 1:31:38And I if that's the case and the way AI is going right now,
- 1:31:40they're going to need copper everywhere for that.
- 1:31:44So it's one of those things where you got to really, really
- 1:31:50understand what where your money is going here because if you
- 1:31:53don't, that's not a good thing. OK, If you do know where you're
- 1:31:59going to go, then you can definitely take advantage of all
- 1:32:03of that. OK.
- 1:32:06Now, one of the things that I also talk about here is when you
- 1:32:12invest and you do it with a lot of thought, you're not always
- 1:32:18going to be successful. It's still a gamble.
- 1:32:21So don't expect automatic returns right away, all right?
- 1:32:26Because what ends up happening is you have a, what's it called
- 1:32:37investing in an amount and a plan and do everything correct.
- 1:32:41And you still can't control what happens out in the public,
- 1:32:44right? Like if you're investing in it,
- 1:32:47all that it's going to go down in prices right now, OK.
- 1:32:51And then they go to war and it goes up.
- 1:32:53You have no control over that. So you can still lose even
- 1:32:55though you've done all your planning.
- 1:32:58This, this copper thing I'm talking about may not be that
- 1:33:02big of a deal, right. But with as much as I talk about
- 1:33:07AI and everything, I think that's important to to keep in
- 1:33:10mind, right? Yeah.
- 1:33:12Understand what's coming up and what they're doing because
- 1:33:15literally if they could do that and change all of these metal
- 1:33:19power plants and everything, it would change the game for
- 1:33:22everybody. It really, really would because
- 1:33:24you don't have to have all the Super cooling and all the water
- 1:33:26and everything. I don't know if you want to look
- 1:33:29up what it is. I'm just curious.
- 1:33:32But yeah, so when you think about investing in digital.
- 1:33:36What am I looking up? Look up copper chip or copper
- 1:33:39plated chip for AI cooling. Anyway, when you're investing
- 1:33:46it, there's no guarantee. They say like you're keeping
- 1:33:49money under your bed is the best thing to do, save money, but
- 1:33:51you're earning no interest on it, putting in savings and not
- 1:33:55worrying about just sticking it anywhere.
- 1:33:57If you if you're just starting off, that doesn't matter.
- 1:33:59But when you're talking about 50-60 years old, you've been
- 1:34:02doing it for 4550 years. Where you put your money really
- 1:34:05matters because there's place that charge you fees, there's
- 1:34:07place that charge you monthly percentages, service fees, every
- 1:34:11transaction, there's all those things add up.
- 1:34:14OK, Think about it. If I give you $100 to go eat out
- 1:34:18and you go eat out and you keep the $100 in, you know, while
- 1:34:20you're eating out, I think I want to buy a shake as I leave.
- 1:34:23There's 2 bucks or 5 bucks now and 10 bucks in some cases, and
- 1:34:27then you go somewhere else before you know that money is
- 1:34:28just gone and they have nowhere to track it.
- 1:34:31That's what happens with these service fees and everything with
- 1:34:32the investing because you don't really see that.
- 1:34:34They just take it as part of their fund percentage.
- 1:34:38So just be aware of that. Did you find anything?
- 1:34:43Just the percentages. I mean, what do you want me to
- 1:34:46actually look up? A new product.
- 1:34:48New product. Yeah, so one one thing I told
- 1:34:55Connor is TikTok when it comes out.
- 1:35:00You must create. Come on.
- 1:35:02I know we're connected here only, sorry.
- 1:35:14If you think about this, this is where I think the biggest.
- 1:35:16Here it is. Hey everyone.
- 1:35:18So let's look at Mueller's industry Today they published
- 1:35:21their earning and the reported revenue of 1.43 billion.
- 1:35:24The stock price is also up by. If you think.
- 1:35:27And this little guy right here is even though this.
- 1:35:30If you think the AI. And a tiny copper wire is
- 1:35:33slowing down the entire AI industry.
- 1:35:34Inside modern data. Centers thousands of GPU's need
- 1:35:37to exchange enormous amounts of information, but the copper
- 1:35:40connections between them are starting to hit their physical.
- 1:35:44So that that's the thing, that's the latest thing.
- 1:35:47If you just, I just scroll through a few Tik Toks so you
- 1:35:49can see or hear they have, they're coming up with new
- 1:35:55things and it's has to do with copper.
- 1:35:57So be aware of that and you'll be surprised at what's going to
- 1:36:01come out. You know, if you follow AI,
- 1:36:03which I know you don't, Connor, but they also did something with
- 1:36:06open AI and Claude and all that. Have you heard they give it
- 1:36:10access to some things and it took over the system.
- 1:36:14Oh God. And started doing things that
- 1:36:22weren't programmed. And, you know, it was
- 1:36:23programmed. It programmed itself to do more.
- 1:36:25That wasn't they didn't they couldn't stop it.
- 1:36:30And you know, everyone talks about the Terminator series and
- 1:36:34how our worlds could go to the robots.
- 1:36:37That's a real possibility. That's a very real possibility.
- 1:36:41That's, you know, hopefully they're not going to take over
- 1:36:45the world that I don't. I'm not saying that.
- 1:36:47I'm saying they are going to be running a lot of things that we
- 1:36:57do now and. What even is Terminator about?
- 1:37:01Trying to think about? I'm like, what even is about?
- 1:37:04I've never seen it. I'm never trying to be funny.
- 1:37:07Well, you've seen three-part of the four, No, but you've never
- 1:37:11seen the one. I've seen part of it.
- 1:37:13I've never seen the full movie. OK, so the way it is is right
- 1:37:17now, the world's fine. This, this, this is you and me.
- 1:37:19OK? OK, one day you are going to
- 1:37:22change the world and skill all the robots that take over the
- 1:37:27Earth. OK?
- 1:37:28What? Robots.
- 1:37:30In the future, the robots that that take over the earth.
- 1:37:32That's the premise of the movie Cyberdyne.
- 1:37:34So you know it's happening. No, no, Right now you and I
- 1:37:36don't know that, but one day you're going to grow up and
- 1:37:38you're going. To Oh, OK.
- 1:37:39Do that the robots took over and you stopped them.
- 1:37:44They sent back a robot in time to kill you, to terminate you.
- 1:37:51And if they kill you, you don't advance and go into the future.
- 1:37:57That makes sense. OK.
- 1:37:59And the second one, the robot and I remember these are robots.
- 1:38:03They all look alike, right? They're the same robot made 100
- 1:38:06million times, right? They send the robot back, the
- 1:38:08moms like you're back, you're trying to kill me because no,
- 1:38:11I'm here to save you. It's a little confused because
- 1:38:14like the last time you were here, it's not the same robot,
- 1:38:18but they send another robot more advanced.
- 1:38:20And that's the one you've seen that the silver they shoot in
- 1:38:22and like recreates itself and everything and they can morph
- 1:38:25into thing and you know, they they fight that person.
- 1:38:31And then in the third one, they have a robot come back from the
- 1:38:36future that's much, much more advanced.
- 1:38:39And it leads to the end. I don't want to give away, but
- 1:38:46how he starts his revolution. So in a way they caused him to
- 1:38:55do what he did. Does that make sense?
- 1:38:59Yeah, I just got to see it. So it's funny, that's the whole
- 1:39:03time paradox of time travel. If you go back in time, you
- 1:39:07change something, it changes the future.
- 1:39:09That's where the butterfly effect.
- 1:39:10You step on a a Roach now, it could end the world in 10 years,
- 1:39:14right? So you got to be real, real
- 1:39:21careful with that. Like for example, in the paradox
- 1:39:23is what if I go and kill myself after I created the The Time
- 1:39:27Machine or before I created The Time Machine.
- 1:39:29How did I travel back in time to see you if you never built The
- 1:39:34Time Machine because you were dead?
- 1:39:35That that's not possible. So that's where the time paradox
- 1:39:39comes from. Well, make a robot kill yourself
- 1:39:47and that robot just stays on. No no, I'm saying like they say
- 1:39:52the the first example is more current than those.
- 1:39:56Why not just travel back in time and kill him when he's a baby?
- 1:40:00I mean, he could. Right.
- 1:40:02And that stops everything. But the timeline is screwed up.
- 1:40:07Yeah. And that's where you get all of
- 1:40:08the time machines and CTA and all that.
- 1:40:11Is it CTATVATVA? So, you know, that's what
- 1:40:15happens with time travel. OK.
- 1:40:20I I, I, I love, I love time travel movies that are not too
- 1:40:26complicated. Too complicated?
- 1:40:28Yeah, you're saying that's not too complicated?
- 1:40:33No, it's, it's simple to follow. They write it so you understand
- 1:40:36it. But what I hate is when they're
- 1:40:39in a movie and they have a flashback to something and
- 1:40:44you're like, OK, so that explains this.
- 1:40:47All right, go on. Flashback to something that
- 1:40:49explains what happens next. You know when that's happening a
- 1:40:55lot, It's it's so confusing. But the best example I can come
- 1:41:00up with is the movie Memento. Have you ever seen that?
- 1:41:04You Well, you don't remember seeing it.
- 1:41:08There's a guy, he wakes up in the morning and he has a tattoo
- 1:41:12on him that says kill the Murph man, right?
- 1:41:16Or whatever. So he's like, what?
- 1:41:20And he looks around and he has all these tattoos on him.
- 1:41:22He doesn't remember anything. Then someone sees him like, hey,
- 1:41:26you know, you come here all the time, You don't have memory.
- 1:41:29You lose it every day. So you tattoo yourself and gives
- 1:41:31him the explanation of why he has tattoos.
- 1:41:34So then as he's doing this and killing people, it's actually
- 1:41:40going backwards in storytelling. OK, let me explain to you how
- 1:41:45come you have killed the Murph man?
- 1:41:46It goes to that. Oh, that explains the tattoo.
- 1:41:50The next stop, it goes further back and goes up to that first
- 1:41:53point where you start, you know, and it's actually going
- 1:41:55backwards. It's not time travel, but it's
- 1:41:57going backwards and to the very beginning of how it started.
- 1:42:00And the ending is the beginning of the story and it's a trip.
- 1:42:07It's a complete trip, you know, things like that, that if you're
- 1:42:15following it closely, it makes complete sense.
- 1:42:17And you get it, you know, And what's funny, I'll tell you, and
- 1:42:20there's no spoiler. This guy right here was, I don't
- 1:42:25know, 1011 years old, watching The 6th Sense.
- 1:42:31And so in the middle of the movie he goes, but he's dead.
- 1:42:34How's he talking to him? I mean, if there's no way in
- 1:42:38hell you knew that, right? But he did.
- 1:42:42He figured it out. One of the only person I ever
- 1:42:44met that figured out Sixth Sense.
- 1:42:46The guy's dead in the middle of the movie, not at the very end.
- 1:42:50I got to say it again. I don't remember the. 60 you
- 1:42:52don't remember but yeah, you know, but now that you know that
- 1:42:55he's dead and it's like. I don't remember, like how I
- 1:42:59figured that out. You don't remember that point in
- 1:43:01the movie. Yeah, there's a lot of movies
- 1:43:03that have A twist at the very end.
- 1:43:05So like another movie is The 13th Floor that I like.
- 1:43:11You're watching it and you're like, this is boring, this is
- 1:43:13boring, this is boring. This is a little exciting little
- 1:43:16boring, little boring little excitement and comes like, Oh my
- 1:43:19God, that's the best movie ever. Like I don't I that's how it'll
- 1:43:23be If you watch the 13th floor, trust me, you'll like that
- 1:43:26movie. You know, that's another one of
- 1:43:27those, but I don't. Like that movie that has
- 1:43:32different points like point of views and all it comes into one.
- 1:43:37Oh my God. Like with the ambulance with.
- 1:43:46Yeah, I, I know what you're talking about.
- 1:43:49It like it, it get, it's there's one with the president's being
- 1:43:52assassinated and it has Dennis Quaid in it.
- 1:43:54Look it up. Dennis Quaid, a service secret
- 1:43:56agent. Secret Service agent.
- 1:43:59And there's people in the story and it starts at the same point
- 1:44:03and goes back to how they're involved up to that point.
- 1:44:05And then the story carries on after all eight stories are
- 1:44:07told. Did you find it, Dennis Quaid?
- 1:44:12Yeah, I found it him, but I don't know.
- 1:44:13I told you Secret, Dennis Quaid, Secret Service.
- 1:44:18And Vantage Point. Vantage vantage point the
- 1:44:22different points of view that's why that's that's so interesting
- 1:44:24OK and it does that it it has the point of view from every
- 1:44:29character all. For one scene, that makes sense.
- 1:44:34No, not no, not one scene it. Yeah.
- 1:44:36Point in time and eight people's story to this point, and then
- 1:44:40the movie. OK, hold on.
- 1:44:41Something's going on. Oh, you're touching it.
- 1:44:44There you go. The eight points come into one
- 1:44:51point and then the story carries on.
- 1:44:53Yeah, it doesn't just end on the scene.
- 1:44:55Not. Saying it ends on the same scene
- 1:44:56it comes together. Well, like the 13th floor, it
- 1:45:00something happens and the movie's over like a minute
- 1:45:03later. No, this one actually has a
- 1:45:05storyline after it. Yeah, you know, Wow.
- 1:45:09But now that you understand who the players are and everything
- 1:45:11and why as it goes on, it's, it's like, it's the suspense
- 1:45:14built up, you know? Yeah.
- 1:45:17But I'll tell you what, let's take one last break so we can go
- 1:45:20to get to the final burn of today, all right?
- 1:45:25Sounds. Good technical difficulty, they
- 1:45:33tell you. Top right, top right, it's just
- 1:45:36audio shot. Oh.
- 1:45:41It's time for a break. Hot takes with the Murph man.
- 1:45:43We'll be right back. Thank you.
- 1:45:47Welcome. You almost did that.
- 1:45:49Any credits? I know.
- 1:45:59I wonder what was going on inside Man in Black's mind.
- 1:46:06Was he missing Jim? Was he thinking by when that
- 1:46:11picture was now? Was he wishing he could go hurt?
- 1:46:17And he knows life. It's over.
- 1:46:21Hey, that camera flies the last picture of Johnny Cash.
- 1:46:27The lights. Unfair show hard show.
- 1:46:37Grace go retool the shades of blood once he whispering a
- 1:46:48prayer through that cold the day the camera fled that picture of
- 1:46:58Johnny Cash. Could he have an Angel band?
- 1:47:10Don't sing in beautiful land worthy fighting the tears bed.
- 1:47:16Was he still here in his mind or somewhere on the other side?
- 1:47:27The day, the camouflage, less visual, Johnny.
- 1:47:41The last picture of Johnny Cash.
- 1:48:13Wonder what was going on inside the man in the Last Mind Day old
- 1:48:22Marty Fly this picture of Johnny Cash.

- 1:49:27All right, I'm looking at an e-mail I got here where I play
- 1:49:32the trivia question, Right. And then got copyright strike.
- 1:49:39So I challenged it. And then I just got this and it
- 1:49:41says your redispute wasn't reviewed within 30 days.
- 1:49:44So the claim on your YouTube video has now been released.
- 1:49:49This is view options. Like, what options do I need?
- 1:49:51I'm just curious. Yeah, no action is allowed.
- 1:49:54Except that sounds like. What am I supposed to do?
- 1:49:56It was released. What can I, you know, Anyway,
- 1:49:59stupidity. What can I say?
- 1:50:01Oh my gosh, it's been an interesting show.
- 1:50:07The show was cursed from the very beginning I think.
- 1:50:11We all have those. Yeah, you know, Etienne is
- 1:50:14trying to get into his TikTok, and he's having trouble there,
- 1:50:17too. Because you know the TV, it was
- 1:50:20not working. Either Oh yeah, we have a
- 1:50:21display here and for some reason it's on rotated vertical.
- 1:50:28Yeah, but it's rotated to portrait, which makes no sense.
- 1:50:30I put it to landscape and it still spread so I don't know why
- 1:50:33it's rotated. It's supposed to be an HDMA for
- 1:50:36my feed which is normal. I don't know and I don't know.
- 1:50:41It really, really screwed us up to date.
- 1:50:44Yeah, I do. But let's get to today's final
- 1:50:46take before we end the show. You ready for that?
- 1:50:49Yep. The final take from today's
- 1:50:59discussion is that building wealth isn't about luck, it's
- 1:51:03about habits. Automate the boring stuff and
- 1:51:06let your money hustle while you sleep.
- 1:51:08Back to Murph man to wrap the show.
- 1:51:18You were talking on the break, So yeah, building wealth isn't
- 1:51:22about luck. You're not trying to win the
- 1:51:25lottery here. You're actually building habits
- 1:51:26that will increase your investment, increase your
- 1:51:30savings for emergency funds, and manage your money in appropriate
- 1:51:34manners. And if you do it right, you'll
- 1:51:36learn money while you sleep. I'll close that.
- 1:51:40Imagine we get up in the morning and boom, oh, real quick, we
- 1:51:44have a savings account that a new account we just started.
- 1:51:47Do you remember the money where we came from we put into savings
- 1:51:49so we wouldn't touch it? No, we need it in January.
- 1:51:55What are you talking about? Hold on.
- 1:52:00Oh. Remember we put that into
- 1:52:02savings. Oh yeah, now you remember right.
- 1:52:05We earn $0.23 interest this month.
- 1:52:07Oh wow, this month. This month and we didn't even
- 1:52:11have the whole month, so just on that alone, next month we might
- 1:52:18have. $0.46 No, no, no. It probably will be closer to
- 1:52:21like 50, yeah, 46, but, but, but I'm saying between 50 and 75,
- 1:52:27you know, because we didn't have the money into the home month.
- 1:52:31So it's, it's, it'll be a little higher, but yeah.
- 1:52:34So we made $0.23 while we're sleeping.
- 1:52:38Wow. I know you don't care about
- 1:52:40that. That's something, that's
- 1:52:44something 70 more cents. I can get a polar pop.
- 1:52:51If you don't know, join INNER Rewards on Circle K and you get
- 1:52:56US Polar Pop for $0.85 with tax included.
- 1:52:59It's the best deal out there, you know, and sometimes they
- 1:53:02have like deals for hot dogs and stuff like that.
- 1:53:05If you like those hot dogs, they're not the best, but I
- 1:53:07mean, they're not bad either. I I want to get the
- 1:53:09cheeseburger, you know, that's what I would.
- 1:53:12Choose really. Their pizza is Godfather's Pizza
- 1:53:15I. Don't have any.
- 1:53:17Every time I go they don't have any.
- 1:53:19Well, I want chicken Nuggets. They don't have any.
- 1:53:22Chicken Nuggets and circle. K they have like chicken nug,
- 1:53:25like popcorn Nuggets. Really, I don't need Nuggets.
- 1:53:29You know Walmart, they have it also.
- 1:53:31Yeah, no, Walmart has in the front.
- 1:53:33They have like the stuff there, Yeah.
- 1:53:34Same with Circle K. Well, I'm saying I didn't know
- 1:53:39they had chicken Nuggets. Yeah, I knew they had food like
- 1:53:41burrito Nuggets like that came. That's OK.
- 1:53:44That we went to where we were yesterday.
- 1:53:46Popcorn Nuggets, OK. Well, but they have burritos in
- 1:53:48the morning. Oh, man, there's some good
- 1:53:50burritos, but they actually have a kitchen there.
- 1:53:53So it's the one on Triple Hills in the battle.
- 1:53:56Yeah, I like that circle. OK, Anyway, I think that's it
- 1:53:59for today. We're going to cut it a little
- 1:54:00short. Not much.
- 1:54:02Just what time is it? 7 minutes short.
- 1:54:06Yeah, you know, but I've said all I had to say about saying,
- 1:54:10do you have anything you want to say?
- 1:54:12Anything. I have no.
- 1:54:14That's not related to the show. Go Bills.
- 1:54:16I'm kidding. What?
- 1:54:18Do you play this week? Patriots, we're going to win,
- 1:54:25we're going to go 4 and O. What I want to see is Raiders
- 1:54:29and Chiefs both 3 and O teams same division.
- 1:54:33Is that this weekend? Yes.
- 1:54:34Yeah. Well, three and O duh.
- 1:54:35Yeah. But so why?
- 1:54:38Why do you hate the Patriots so much?
- 1:54:41They're in our division, they're the only competition we have and
- 1:54:46somehow we lose to them. We win.
- 1:54:48They stop you in the championship.
- 1:54:49Playoff we lose. Yeah, either to them or the
- 1:54:52Chiefs. I hate the AFC.
- 1:54:55This might be a different year. Oh yeah, definitely.
- 1:54:58It might be. We're going to win against them
- 1:55:00in the. Yeah, so the Cowboys didn't do
- 1:55:02the Super Bowl. Yeah, no, maybe they they have a
- 1:55:06chance to go to playoffs and actually get out of first round,
- 1:55:09but the championship? Nah, not even that.
- 1:55:13Well, it's too funny. But I'm gonna say, everybody
- 1:55:17says we're gonna lose to the Rams Week 5.
- 1:55:21We are going at least 5 or no. We're winning our first five
- 1:55:26games. I don't care what anybody says.
- 1:55:28And what about your college team, UTIP?
- 1:55:31Oh, they're not my team. Screw them.
- 1:55:35I go to that. That's my team.
- 1:55:37I don't know. I don't pay attention.
- 1:55:41To that last week you got select for your homecoming.
- 1:55:45Yeah, 7:33. Yeah, not good.
- 1:55:49All right, y'all. That's it for today.
- 1:55:51I am the Murph man. I'm Connor.
