Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: We see the five fourteen, and the first live show
- 0:11Speaker 1: for the new christ Urt Stadium has been revealed none
- 0:13Speaker 1: other than these guys Iconic Here we band. Six sixty
- 0:17Speaker 1: Symphony is also going to be performing alongside the May
- 0:19Speaker 1: sixteenth is the date with the double head of receiving
- 0:22Speaker 1: funding through the government's Events Boost fund. David Higgins is
- 0:26Speaker 1: DUCO Events promoted with us this morning. Good morning Dave,
- 0:29Speaker 1: Good morning, Ron Hey, no brainers.
- 0:30Speaker 2: The book six sixty, Yeah, who was sort of serendipitous.
- 0:35Speaker 2: So I've been talking to Brent eccles for a while
- 0:38Speaker 2: since I got into music with the Symphony, and we've
- 0:41Speaker 2: become friendly, and then we were talking about some sort
- 0:45Speaker 2: of collaboration. The government funding came along the stadium. It
- 0:48Speaker 2: was one of those things where all the stars aligned
- 0:51Speaker 2: and we've ended up with what I think is a
- 0:53Speaker 2: magic occasion with the two biggest bands in the country.
- 0:57Speaker 2: One is Electronic Dance with Orchestra, the other being six sixty,
- 1:02Speaker 2: the biggest man in the country together all sponsored by
- 1:06Speaker 2: Minuca fuel of course and kiwibank. So we're delighted.
- 1:10Speaker 1: You don't have to convince me I'm coming. But how
- 1:13Speaker 1: much did you get from the government fund.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Oh I'm not to be honest, I'm not sure what
- 1:17Speaker 2: the rules are around whether I'm allowed to tell you
- 1:20Speaker 2: or not. So what I will say is what I
- 1:23Speaker 2: say is most AUSSI states will spend this sort of
- 1:27Speaker 2: money annually and have done for a long time. And
- 1:30Speaker 2: what it does is it creates visitor night's GDP into
- 1:34Speaker 2: the economy, spend, restaurant spas are full, hotels, ripple effect,
- 1:39Speaker 2: plus young people want to go live there. You know,
- 1:41Speaker 2: you talk about the brain drain. If New Zealand and
- 1:44Speaker 2: Auckland spend nothing on events and then all the other
- 1:47Speaker 2: states are spending fifty million a year, the brain drain
- 1:50Speaker 2: is going to accelerate big time, Isn't it right?
- 1:53Speaker 1: I don't disagree. Does would something like this happen without
- 1:56Speaker 1: that money?
- 2:00Speaker 2: I personally wouldn't have put Synthony into this without this money.
- 2:04Speaker 2: These events are very expensive and put on that's a
- 2:07Speaker 2: multimillion dollar production. Secondly, you're making a risk return judgment
- 2:12Speaker 2: if it's your own neck on the line, your own house.
- 2:14Speaker 2: And when New Zealand promoters New Zealand owned, we're deciding, hey,
- 2:18Speaker 2: can we sell enough to gets in this market. So
- 2:22Speaker 2: having support from sponsors like NUCA Fuel, k WE Bank
- 2:26Speaker 2: and government is very helpful and it enables us to
- 2:29Speaker 2: confidently go big and put on massive Rasmataz shows that
- 2:34Speaker 2: otherwise might not happen. And it makes New Zealand a
- 2:37Speaker 2: nice place to live. And I think the overall money
- 2:40Speaker 2: is a drop in the ocean of what the government's spending.
- 2:42Speaker 2: When as a kid, I might have thought spending fifty
- 2:45Speaker 2: seventy million a year on his interaction was a lot
- 2:47Speaker 2: of money. And then they spend fifty billion on COVID
- 2:50Speaker 2: or whatever it was, and then I realized, how we
- 2:53Speaker 2: you know.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Imagine if you're no jump, it's exactly pay jump very quickly.
- 2:59Speaker 1: But stadium is it expensive to put gigs on there?
- 3:02Speaker 1: I mean, this is obviously the first one that's been
- 3:04Speaker 1: put on. And how does that compare to say an
- 3:06Speaker 1: Eden Park?
- 3:08Speaker 2: Yeah, good question. Every dealer is different, Every stadium has
- 3:12Speaker 2: a different border, different CEO. Some are not for profit,
- 3:15Speaker 2: some are losing money, some are very profitable. I've done
- 3:18Speaker 2: deals with some Corps Stadium, Brisbane, Eden Park. This deal,
- 3:23Speaker 2: you know, I think they were firm but fair, like
- 3:26Speaker 2: they wanted an exciting product for their first event, where
- 3:30Speaker 2: good negotiators. I think we'd land in a place that
- 3:32Speaker 2: was fear to them and fear to us. But big
- 3:34Speaker 2: stadiums are always expensive. It's not just the rental. You've
- 3:38Speaker 2: got to pay for generators and ambulance staff, and security
- 3:42Speaker 2: and ushers and you know, just traffic management and about
- 3:47Speaker 2: one hundred budget lines the public would not think about
- 3:50Speaker 2: on top of the rental.
- 3:52Speaker 1: Dave, appreciate your time this morning, looking forward to the gig.
- 3:54Speaker 1: Dave Higgins. Duco Events promoted Time for more.
