- 0:11Speaker 1: Welcome to Girls Gone Hallmark, a Hallmark and Hallmark adjacent
- 0:14Speaker 1: review podcast. I'm Megan and I'm a longtime Hallmark fan.
- 0:17Speaker 1: I'm Wendy. I'm a former Hallmark hater. On today's episode,
- 0:20Speaker 1: we are discussing The Count of Monte Cristo, episode seven,
- 0:24Speaker 1: which originally aired on PBS on Sunday May third, and
- 0:29Speaker 1: is currently available to stream on PBS dot Org and
- 0:32Speaker 1: the PBS app. Before we jump into this review, I
- 0:35Speaker 1: have an email from Mary with a recommendation. Uh oh,
- 0:40Speaker 1: it's all good. No, I'm sure it's good, but uh oh,
- 0:44Speaker 1: because your girls need a break. Oh no, no, no, no, no no,
- 0:47Speaker 1: this is just a watch, she says. Hi, ladies, check
- 0:50Speaker 1: out the three episode series of Maryland on PBS right
- 0:55Speaker 1: down our alleys, twisty tourney with unexpected secrets and mysteries.
- 1:00Speaker 1: As you mentions, it's only three episodes. I don't know
- 1:02Speaker 1: how long they are. The synopsis is Maryland on PBS
- 1:07Speaker 1: Masterpiece is a three part emotional drama about two estranged sisters,
- 1:12Speaker 1: Becca and Rosaline, who reunite after their mother's sudden death
- 1:16Speaker 1: on the Isle of Man as they uncover their mother's
- 1:19Speaker 1: secret double life. The polar opposite siblings are forced to
- 1:23Speaker 1: confront their own complex relationship, family secrets, and personal identities.
- 1:30Speaker 1: I did look at the cast, and I will admit
- 1:32Speaker 1: that the only actor I recognized was Stockard Channing. But
- 1:37Speaker 1: I am kind of interested in this show, so thank
- 1:39Speaker 1: you for that recommendation. Mary. I can handle a three
- 1:43Speaker 1: episode right, throw on twisty attorney as I'm folding laundry
- 1:48Speaker 1: and don't have to take notes. Love it? Yes, let's
- 1:52Speaker 1: hear a synopsis for the kind of Monte Cristo Episode seven,
- 1:56Speaker 1: for NaN's misdeeds are made public outrate by his father's downfall.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Albert challenges Edmund to a duel. Oh. For a full
- 2:09Speaker 1: list of the cast of this series, checkout Girls Gone
- 2:12Speaker 1: Homemark dot com that is linked directly in our show
- 2:15Speaker 1: notes to this episode on our website if you want
- 2:18Speaker 1: to see who's in that other than our boy Sam Claflin. Hey, Wady,
- 2:23Speaker 1: what is your first impression of the duel? Well, at
- 2:27Speaker 1: this point, Edmund isn't even hiding, He's just walking around
- 2:30Speaker 1: like it's Edmund bitch. My first impression is yikes, I
- 2:36Speaker 1: don't know that I saw that coming. Oh, I don't
- 2:41Speaker 1: want this show to end, and I know what's ending.
- 2:43Speaker 1: It's so freaking good. We only have one episode to go. No,
- 2:48Speaker 1: it makes me sad. I saw like the next episode
- 2:51Speaker 1: was getting ready to play. I was like, episode eight.
- 2:53Speaker 1: There's ten at least, right, and I'm like, no, there's
- 2:55Speaker 1: only eight. It's so cool. We still got Towo people
- 3:00Speaker 1: to take down. I know that's why it's gonna go.
- 3:04Speaker 1: It's gonna be Banana's next episode, and I need some
- 3:06Speaker 1: sort of resolution with marce Edmund. I don't think we're
- 3:10Speaker 1: gonna get well, Okay, let's talk what we liked, Okay.
- 3:13Speaker 1: I like that the hammer is finally dropping. I think
- 3:18Speaker 1: we've been waiting for this, and it delivered for me.
- 3:23Speaker 1: I thought, when we have for a man's life just
- 3:26Speaker 1: getting completely blown up in front of Parliament. I thought
- 3:29Speaker 1: Chef's kiss, that was great. Haiti's stepping forward and with
- 3:33Speaker 1: the literal receipts, literal receipts, here is my receipt of
- 3:37Speaker 1: when I was sold into slavery and who saved me?
- 3:40Speaker 1: I was like, whoa, that was crazy. In London, we've
- 3:45Speaker 1: been talking for many episodes about how Edmund's playing this
- 3:48Speaker 1: long game. Well it's finally paying off. It is not
- 3:52Speaker 1: quiet revenge anymore. He is there to publicly humiliate everybody involved.
- 3:59Speaker 1: And while I don't love the fallout to the other
- 4:03Speaker 1: people it affects, it is kind of sweet sweet justice. Yeah.
- 4:08Speaker 1: I had wondered all this time, like are these people
- 4:10Speaker 1: just going to go down and never know? I love
- 4:12Speaker 1: that at the end, Edmund make sure that they know
- 4:15Speaker 1: exactly who he is and that he is the one
- 4:18Speaker 1: responsible for taking them down for nand is such a weasel.
- 4:22Speaker 1: And I'm almost glad that we saw him hit Mercedes
- 4:25Speaker 1: in the last episode because it's like, there's there's no
- 4:28Speaker 1: redemption for this man, right, Like you are bad to
- 4:31Speaker 1: the core. They're all bad. Every single one of these
- 4:33Speaker 1: guys is bad to the core. And I just love
- 4:37Speaker 1: Edmund letting them in on this is who I am
- 4:41Speaker 1: and this is why I have ruined your life. I
- 4:46Speaker 1: love it. Damn. I got to read the book and
- 4:49Speaker 1: I'm telling you, I told you it was like fifty
- 4:51Speaker 1: hours on audible, right, I know, I know, And someone
- 4:54Speaker 1: did comment it was either on Spotify or on YouTube
- 4:58Speaker 1: I cannot remember, but they said, you so a lot
- 5:00Speaker 1: of these little questions that we have are answered in
- 5:02Speaker 1: the book, and of course, a book is so much
- 5:04Speaker 1: more nuanced than a television show can be, and you
- 5:07Speaker 1: have the ability to add in so much more detail
- 5:10Speaker 1: that I'm dying for. And I do think some details
- 5:12Speaker 1: were changed for the series, so that'll be interesting. I
- 5:15Speaker 1: like Albert's ark in this episode. He kind of starts
- 5:19Speaker 1: as like I demand satisfaction, right, like we're going a duel,
- 5:22Speaker 1: and then he gets the information. We don't see him
- 5:28Speaker 1: get the information about his father, but we assume that
- 5:30Speaker 1: Mercedes must have passed it along because he's sure. He
- 5:33Speaker 1: shows up and chooses his mother, like there's not even
- 5:39Speaker 1: as far as I can tell, like a second hesitation
- 5:41Speaker 1: when they move out. He's just like, you're trash. I'm
- 5:44Speaker 1: doing the right thing. And I think that all comes
- 5:48Speaker 1: together in a way that I've been worried about Albert
- 5:50Speaker 1: ever since we met him, and worried about what Edmund
- 5:54Speaker 1: was going to do to Albert indirectly in some ways right,
- 5:58Speaker 1: and I think in some ways, yes, Mercedes and Albert
- 6:03Speaker 1: are collateral damage, But in the other sense, I feel
- 6:08Speaker 1: like there's a part of Edmund that has saved them,
- 6:12Speaker 1: that has freed them from fernand who is not a
- 6:15Speaker 1: good man, and doesn't operate with goodness and the best
- 6:20Speaker 1: interests of his wife and child in his heart. And
- 6:23Speaker 1: so while I'm never going to cheer for someone pushing
- 6:27Speaker 1: someone else to take their own life, I do think
- 6:30Speaker 1: Edmund has given them some freedom. Yeah, I think I
- 6:34Speaker 1: like that take. I like that they also realize, like
- 6:38Speaker 1: France terrible, they learn the truth about them right, and
- 6:42Speaker 1: there is no hesitation of like, no, we're not going
- 6:46Speaker 1: to be associated with you. Yes, I mean I agree
- 6:50Speaker 1: with you, like it's terrible that he took his own life,
- 6:53Speaker 1: but I liked all the other stuff leading up to
- 6:57Speaker 1: that that he was, you know, exposed. Yeah, and I
- 7:00Speaker 1: think it's it's handled very well. The second he goes
- 7:04Speaker 1: home and said that desk, I knew what he was
- 7:06Speaker 1: going to do, sure, even before he takes the gun out,
- 7:10Speaker 1: And the acting on the part of fernand I think
- 7:14Speaker 1: was spectacular. And then just the way they frame it,
- 7:17Speaker 1: where you just hear the sound and see Mercedes' reaction,
- 7:20Speaker 1: it's almost as if she knew it was coming. I mean,
- 7:23Speaker 1: she's shocked by the sound, but she doesn't seem shocked
- 7:26Speaker 1: that it's happened, right, So I thought it was all
- 7:30Speaker 1: handled very well. What did you think about the demanding
- 7:35Speaker 1: of a duel between Edmund and Albert? The Hamilton frame
- 7:39Speaker 1: of reference sits in my mind because I've you know,
- 7:43Speaker 1: that's really my only pop culture experience with a duel,
- 7:47Speaker 1: So I thought it was interesting. I guess to me
- 7:52Speaker 1: it spoke a little bit to Albert's honor. Sure, Albert
- 7:59Speaker 1: is trying to protect his family's name, and he's still
- 8:02Speaker 1: trying to be the honorable person. And this is the
- 8:05Speaker 1: way things were handled at this point. And even when
- 8:07Speaker 1: he's like, oh, he's got his seconds and I was like, oh,
- 8:09Speaker 1: grab your friends, right, it was of the time they
- 8:13Speaker 1: I couldn't help but envisioning, you know, Mercedes begs him like, oh,
- 8:18Speaker 1: save my son, Save my son, and it does a
- 8:21Speaker 1: little bit echo of Hamilton for me because it's the
- 8:24Speaker 1: course of father son's situation in that case. And she's like,
- 8:28Speaker 1: did you know? And I thought, what was Edmund going
- 8:31Speaker 1: to do if it had come down to it, Like
- 8:33Speaker 1: was he going to aim his gun to the guy? Now?
- 8:37Speaker 1: Do you think it was fair for Edmund to be
- 8:39Speaker 1: to tell Mercedes like, whoa, if it's not going to
- 8:42Speaker 1: be your son, then it's going to be me, Because yeah,
- 8:45Speaker 1: I do. That's the truth. I was like, yikes, yeah,
- 8:50Speaker 1: and she can't even understand that. She's like no, like,
- 8:54Speaker 1: can't you just walk away? Like it's been called off now?
- 8:57Speaker 1: And he's like, no, I gotta my honor and blah
- 8:59Speaker 1: blahlah blah. I'm like, you mean an asshole right now,
- 9:03Speaker 1: like you don't have to do that. I mean, yeah,
- 9:07Speaker 1: it hadn't been called off until Albert shows up and
- 9:10Speaker 1: says like, I'm satisfied basically. But you know, what do
- 9:14Speaker 1: you think about the way Edmund speaks to Mercedes, Because
- 9:17Speaker 1: I stand by what I said in last episode that
- 9:20Speaker 1: he seems very very done with her. I think maybe
- 9:26Speaker 1: I've just been so warped by Hallmark that I feel
- 9:29Speaker 1: like there's some sort of redemption there, that he's truly
- 9:33Speaker 1: still in love with her and they'll ride off into
- 9:35Speaker 1: the sunset together. But perhaps, you know, once he's made
- 9:39Speaker 1: his decision of like, well, she married him and disrespected
- 9:44Speaker 1: me along the way, then I'm done. So I well,
- 9:48Speaker 1: I guess that seems plausible, but I'm hopeful for a
- 9:52Speaker 1: happy ending. I just I don't think that's happening though. No.
- 9:56Speaker 1: I did love when she goes to him, though, when
- 9:58Speaker 1: she calls him Edmund, oh yeah, and she tells him
- 10:03Speaker 1: that she still loves him and has always loved him.
- 10:06Speaker 1: And I think his concession to that is he says, like,
- 10:09Speaker 1: your son will live. But I don't think he can
- 10:13Speaker 1: get past the betrayal because he even says like it
- 10:16Speaker 1: wasn't that long. I think he's cutting off his nose
- 10:20Speaker 1: despite his face here loves this woman, but he can't
- 10:24Speaker 1: get past the betrayal from a woman who thought he
- 10:27Speaker 1: was dead. And I don't care if it was one year,
- 10:32Speaker 1: one month he was dead. So we have an email
- 10:37Speaker 1: from Jessica that I have some quotes to weave in
- 10:41Speaker 1: as we're discussing some of these things, and she says,
- 10:45Speaker 1: in regards to Mercedes, I do wish that we got
- 10:47Speaker 1: an explanation about why she agreed to marry for Nande.
- 10:50Speaker 1: It feels like there's a gap between thinking your fiance
- 10:52Speaker 1: is dead and marrying your cousin. Did her family always
- 10:55Speaker 1: want her to marry for Nande? Did he get rich
- 10:58Speaker 1: in that year and they need the money. I'm sure
- 11:00Speaker 1: the book covers this, but it feels like something the
- 11:02Speaker 1: show could have done. In the conversation between her and
- 11:04Speaker 1: Edmund in a line and it would help her feel
- 11:07Speaker 1: like a more full character. Now. I don't know the
- 11:13Speaker 1: exact timeline, but was his time with Ali Pasha and
- 11:18Speaker 1: then him selling Haiti? Was that when he was away
- 11:21Speaker 1: before he and Mercedes married, and then he comes back
- 11:24Speaker 1: with this fortune, good question? And then it's like, well
- 11:28Speaker 1: that makes me like her less because he comes back
- 11:31Speaker 1: with all this money and she's like, all right, you're
- 11:34Speaker 1: the next best thing. I guess yeah, I don't know.
- 11:37Speaker 1: I'm gonna have to read the book to really answer
- 11:40Speaker 1: these questions. Right, How did you feel about Caderousse's exit?
- 11:46Speaker 1: If I can echo Jessica, She also says she's so
- 11:48Speaker 1: relieved that he's going to New York and not being killed.
- 11:51Speaker 1: I was so worried for him, and I feel the
- 11:52Speaker 1: same way. I feel like this is the best alternative
- 11:56Speaker 1: for him. I don't think he was ever going to
- 11:59Speaker 1: be brought into the Count's inner circle. And he does
- 12:03Speaker 1: say he helped him restore his faith in mankind, and
- 12:05Speaker 1: I feel like, look, I'm giving you safe passage, like
- 12:09Speaker 1: go live your life. You're done, You've served your debt
- 12:11Speaker 1: to me. I don't know, what do you think? No,
- 12:13Speaker 1: I was happy that that's the way that that concluded.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Mm hmm. I was worried about Cadarousse. I thought he
- 12:20Speaker 1: was kind of disposable to Edmund at some points. And
- 12:26Speaker 1: I'm happy he was like, well, here's he didn't really
- 12:29Speaker 1: show what who he's giving him. I'm guessing it was
- 12:31Speaker 1: like jewels or something, yeah, I agree, or gold. Yeah,
- 12:34Speaker 1: and he's like, all right, be on your way, go
- 12:36Speaker 1: to New York, start a bar. I did get a
- 12:39Speaker 1: little worried when he says Cadarousse has been compromised. I thought,
- 12:42Speaker 1: is he sending him away more to protect himself or
- 12:45Speaker 1: to protect Cadarousse. Oh, you know, I don't think he's
- 12:50Speaker 1: so concerned with protecting himself at this point. You don't,
- 12:53Speaker 1: because we they showed him living in fear in the
- 12:56Speaker 1: last episode. True, But on the flip side, that he's
- 13:01Speaker 1: dropping truth bombs of who he is. Yeah, so yeah,
- 13:05Speaker 1: I just don't think he You know that. I think
- 13:08Speaker 1: Cadarousse being made basically exposed just lends to the heightened
- 13:15Speaker 1: intensity of the story. Yeah. I don't think really like
- 13:19Speaker 1: Edmund's that concern. I think he was more concerned about
- 13:23Speaker 1: maybe he was more concerned about Cadarousse being killed perhaps
- 13:27Speaker 1: by maybe that's a tiny bit of goodness in him. Yeah,
- 13:29Speaker 1: maybe maybe. Did you like the storyline with the Villefort's
- 13:34Speaker 1: baby who's now a young man? Kind of well, I
- 13:40Speaker 1: think it's just giving us nuggets of like, Okay, this
- 13:43Speaker 1: is going to fall into I think it's going to
- 13:46Speaker 1: fall into next week's conclusion obviously, certainly hope. So, I
- 13:50Speaker 1: can't imagine even if villefor Kid's eyes on this kid,
- 13:54Speaker 1: he's not going to be like, oh wait, are you
- 13:56Speaker 1: my child? He looks just like me? Right, I mean
- 13:58Speaker 1: the casting is kind of great. They do kind of
- 14:00Speaker 1: looks similar. But yeah, I'm interested to see how that's
- 14:05Speaker 1: gonna play out and wrap things up. What I actually
- 14:08Speaker 1: really like about that storyline is Yako Hoo doesn't like
- 14:12Speaker 1: it when the Count's like, we're gonna set him up,
- 14:14Speaker 1: We're gonna get him arrested, and Yakapo's like, he's he
- 14:17Speaker 1: pushes back a little bit, and I kind of agree
- 14:21Speaker 1: with him. There he's once again using Gast on this
- 14:24Speaker 1: kid as a pawn in his game against Villefort, when yes,
- 14:30Speaker 1: Gaston is a thief, he's not like a contributing member
- 14:34Speaker 1: of society. But also you certainly have to blame some
- 14:38Speaker 1: of that on the circumstances of his childhood, and so
- 14:41Speaker 1: I think it's I'm curious to see where we go
- 14:43Speaker 1: with Yakapo in the finale and if he's his conscience
- 14:48Speaker 1: starts pushing against what's happening with the Count. Oh yeah,
- 14:52Speaker 1: that's gonna be interesting. I haven't given his character much
- 14:55Speaker 1: thought in terms of how it ends for him, So
- 15:00Speaker 1: very interested to watch. I need like a two hour
- 15:02Speaker 1: I hope that episode's like two hours. It's probably not, No, yeah,
- 15:05Speaker 1: probably it's the same. I also did like when Caderouse
- 15:08Speaker 1: is talking to Gueston, He's like, the Count doesn't give
- 15:11Speaker 1: second chances, and I was like, yeah, no, one knows
- 15:13Speaker 1: that better than Cadarousse, who's been paying for his crime
- 15:16Speaker 1: for years now, exactly. All right, is that all your likes? Yeah,
- 15:20Speaker 1: let's take a quick break and we will come right
- 15:22Speaker 1: back to talk wishes. All right, Wendy, let's hear some
- 15:33Speaker 1: of your wishes. I don't have many other than the
- 15:37Speaker 1: speed of fer NaN's downfall. It happened so quickly in
- 15:41Speaker 1: this episode. I kind of wish we could have maybe
- 15:46Speaker 1: started it one episode before. I just like, is this
- 15:50Speaker 1: happening over days? Right? Weeks months. What it just happened fast,
- 15:56Speaker 1: like he the whole parliament thing happened so quickly and
- 15:59Speaker 1: then and it's been so like several episodes of setup,
- 16:03Speaker 1: and now all the dominoes are falling right. So that's
- 16:06Speaker 1: why I feel like the finale episode next week is
- 16:09Speaker 1: just going to be like boom boom boom boom, right,
- 16:12Speaker 1: boom boom boom, you know, and maybe that makes for
- 16:14Speaker 1: a good finale. I don't know. Time will tell. Well,
- 16:18Speaker 1: we'll be back next week to talk about that, but
- 16:21Speaker 1: it just happened quickly, quickly, quickly. My other little wish
- 16:27Speaker 1: is that Haiti says it best when they say Haiti
- 16:30Speaker 1: and the Count say goodbye to each other, and she
- 16:33Speaker 1: says something like but at what costs? Yes, but at
- 16:37Speaker 1: what cost? And I was like, oh, see, Edmund has
- 16:41Speaker 1: you know, sought out all this revenge for years and
- 16:45Speaker 1: years and years, but at what costs? Like he's not
- 16:48Speaker 1: thriving as a human right, He's in a terrible way.
- 16:52Speaker 1: He's doing drugs and he's not sleeping at night, and
- 16:55Speaker 1: he's not happy. Like so I just, like I said,
- 17:04Speaker 1: I want a happy ending for Edmund, but I just
- 17:07Speaker 1: don't think it's gonna happen, and I think that's probably
- 17:11Speaker 1: my biggest wish. I'm telling you my brain has been
- 17:15Speaker 1: altered by Hallmark. Yeah, I think. Sure. We're always waiting
- 17:19Speaker 1: for that last minute, happy ending and resolution, and I'm
- 17:22Speaker 1: not sure we're going to get it in a Hallmark
- 17:24Speaker 1: sort of way. I do hope there's some sort of
- 17:28Speaker 1: resolution for the count at the end of this and
- 17:32Speaker 1: that it's not tragic, but I genuinely don't know which
- 17:36Speaker 1: direction we're going. And I apologize to anybody who's screaming
- 17:38Speaker 1: up their phones right now. I think it's interesting to
- 17:44Speaker 1: watch this both with knowledge of the story of the
- 17:46Speaker 1: book and without. I think there's value in both. When
- 17:50Speaker 1: Haiti says that it unlocked something in me, because there's
- 17:54Speaker 1: a huge cost to Edmund in exacting all of this revenge,
- 17:57Speaker 1: I mean, this alters his brain chemistry. It couldn't not.
- 18:02Speaker 1: But also there are innocent bystanders that we've talked about
- 18:06Speaker 1: that are collateral damage. In Haiti is one of them.
- 18:09Speaker 1: I think because she was forced to relive her father
- 18:15Speaker 1: was murdered, then she was sold, she was sold again
- 18:17Speaker 1: to Edmund, and for Edmund's satisfaction, she was forced to
- 18:21Speaker 1: share that very publicly, and what a humiliating thing to
- 18:25Speaker 1: have to stand in that chamber of men and say,
- 18:27Speaker 1: here are the receipts of me, a human person, my
- 18:30Speaker 1: sale for this man's financial gain. Was she a willing
- 18:34Speaker 1: participant in that? I don't know or did she feel obligated?
- 18:38Speaker 1: And I don't think you can remove the obligation. He
- 18:40Speaker 1: saved her, he bought her, and freed her. Whether you
- 18:43Speaker 1: tell yourself or he says, there's no obligation to do this,
- 18:46Speaker 1: and we don't have any of that knowledge. There's some
- 18:49Speaker 1: obligation there that you're gonna feel for sure. My other
- 18:53Speaker 1: wish goes towards the Eugenia and Louise thread. It's a
- 18:57Speaker 1: little thin. Eugenia breaks down because she's to Mary Count Spota.
- 19:01Speaker 1: Louise is there to comfort her. They have a nice,
- 19:03Speaker 1: meaningful moment. There's a little affection between the two of them.
- 19:06Speaker 1: But I do think we could dig into this a
- 19:08Speaker 1: little bit more, because I think they're a huge example
- 19:11Speaker 1: of how these innocent lives are affected by these men
- 19:16Speaker 1: manipulating them for their own gain. Totally. There's in Valentine,
- 19:21Speaker 1: who we don't hear about at all in this episode.
- 19:24Speaker 1: So there's another one that my Hallmark brain hopes for
- 19:27Speaker 1: a happy ending. I'm not sure that a happy ending
- 19:30Speaker 1: for the two of them exists in this time period.
- 19:33Speaker 1: But once again, we shall see, we shall Do you
- 19:38Speaker 1: have any more wishes? That's it? I wanted to read
- 19:40Speaker 1: a couple more notes from Jessica's email if I may. Yeah,
- 19:44Speaker 1: she says, I love the opera scenes. I would love
- 19:46Speaker 1: it if the Foresights could do something like this with
- 19:48Speaker 1: the opera. Maybe not leading to a duel, but with
- 19:50Speaker 1: people spying on each other, especially now with the possible
- 19:54Speaker 1: triangle between June Philip and Irene. June and Philip met
- 19:58Speaker 1: at the opera, Rene loves it seems like a good
- 20:01Speaker 1: place for that predicted storyline to come to a head. Finally,
- 20:05Speaker 1: she says, I love that he is setting up for
- 20:07Speaker 1: nand and Doanglars to bring each other down. I kind
- 20:10Speaker 1: of wish that he had been able to keep himself
- 20:12Speaker 1: out of it publicly, but I think he wants to
- 20:14Speaker 1: be involved in their downfalls. This episode clearly shows that
- 20:18Speaker 1: he doesn't just want his revenge. She wants them to
- 20:20Speaker 1: know it was him and why. Okay, so let me
- 20:23Speaker 1: ask you this, if you were plotting a revenge of
- 20:26Speaker 1: your worst enemy, someone who has done you so dirty. Right,
- 20:34Speaker 1: when they go down, don't you want them to know
- 20:36Speaker 1: it was you that did it? Absolutely? Yeah, I know
- 20:40Speaker 1: there's I hear what she's saying, and do agree, Like, yeah, Edmund,
- 20:45Speaker 1: dial yourself back a little bit, don't expose yourself, like,
- 20:48Speaker 1: don't be involved in it. But on the other side
- 20:51Speaker 1: of it, yes, he wants these men to know that
- 20:53Speaker 1: it was him to remind that sailor that they sent
- 20:57Speaker 1: to prison, who they thought was disposable or a threat
- 21:02Speaker 1: or whatever, is the one to take them down. Yeah.
- 21:05Speaker 1: And Edmund has not been unaffected by the money and
- 21:09Speaker 1: the power that he has because of the money. The
- 21:11Speaker 1: key is absolutely a changed person from whom he was
- 21:13Speaker 1: in the beginning. Agree. Yeah, And that makes me kind
- 21:18Speaker 1: of feel icky a little bit because I want to
- 21:22Speaker 1: root for somebody who is good, and I'm like, all
- 21:26Speaker 1: this kind of the way we've gotten here isn't great, right,
- 21:31Speaker 1: But damn, it's a good show and it's a good story.
- 21:33Speaker 1: Do kids have to read this in high school or college?
- 21:36Speaker 1: Do know? I don't know, God, they should, it's so good.
- 21:43Speaker 1: I'm sure it's part of some curriculum a literature major.
- 21:46Speaker 1: Absolutely yeah. Reading it in high school be rough because
- 21:50Speaker 1: it's so long. But I know, but kids today would
- 21:53Speaker 1: just chat GPT this up right, I know, right, and
- 21:57Speaker 1: then they'll come across our podcast someday then listen to
- 22:01Speaker 1: our hot takes on it. Oh my gosh. Well, we'll
- 22:05Speaker 1: be back next week with the season and series finale.
- 22:09Speaker 1: I know that breaks Wendy's heart so much of the
- 22:12Speaker 1: Count of Monte Cristo, who knew that this is where
- 22:14Speaker 1: you would be after two PBS seasons? Can you believe it? Truly?
- 22:18Speaker 1: I cannot thank you to those of you who have
