I couldn't tell if it's gonna be something terrifying or exciting. No. Okay. So I'm gonna I I'm not gonna say like a lot of details, but Spit it out. You just got to hold a human brain. On your face. I it I like had a reaction. I had fucking giddy right now for that being what this is. Like it did something to my insides. It's like, You guys, I think we might have a serial killer on our hands. I'm not sure. I'm not sure about this. It is it was just a wild experience. Like it it came out of The container and I just like something was like my god. I mean I could see how that would be a cool experience from a standpoint of like what it is and like it wasn't until the person I was with like got me gloves, like I didn't know that I was going to be able to. And it's I think I love that. Made my you got to do that. I fucking no things. And just was like, Well, I was asking way too many questions questions, like, well, who was this person? I I'd want to How long ago? Like how old were they and they're like, We don't know. They just get it do it's like donated to science. Like it's it's but like it's don't it's a brain that was donated to science that's in a classroom somewhere, pretty much, right? Or something or at an exhibit or whatever. Yep. That's exactly what it was. And it's just like and I'm gonna go back and do it again. And I got to see a bag of sheep hearts. That one wasn't as exciting. I that one wasn't as exciting. I mean, I'm so happy for you that this is what made your day today. I'm so happy. You made my my highlight of the day. I have to hold a human brain. I mean, I feel like I think Abby normal. Never mind, it's from a movie. You're did you just call yourself normal? Abby normal. No, it's it's it's okay. Whose brain did I put in the monster? I don't know. Abby someone. Are you Abby normal? Are you saying I put an abnormal brain from young Frankenstein? I mean, I get it. I get like I get the That's all I could think of. Well, I'm very happy for you. That is a that's I'm happy because the Seahawks won last night. But like potato tomato. Exactly. Well we won't be where we differ. We differ very much so. But also I don't know that I was on that much of a high from it. It was very cool. Because we played who we played in the Super Bowl and then our quarterback got hurt at the very beginning. I heard that. And without so we had our second string guy as the one who won it for us. And I mean it was a rough start, but like we got there. So I was stoked. I was hoping we still won. Felt good. Go balls. I go balls. Go balls. Go balls. That's what I text her. What yeah. Every time I do something, I'm like, go balls. Go balls. I have a t shirt that's two footballs on the tits. And I Go balls. Yes. Meg Megan her balls. And brains. I guess. Jesus. Well, yay. All right, you want to joke? I'm hoping to see a spinal cord next week, but yeah. Mm-hmm. Never seen one before. I mean me either. Yeah. I don't want to though. I think it's amazing. I think it's cool that I love that people have you know, it's one of those things in life where like everyone has the things that they're into and like the things they can handle. Like my little sister who's like a pathologist assistant and she sends you She sends me pictures. Unhinged like pictures of like feet and like she, you know, she's insane and is really good at like dissecting breast cancer and she's like extremely good at it. You people who can look at that, like there have to be those people in the world, and I think it's wonderful. I am not fucking one of them. I think in another life I I would be like an autopsy technician or something. Which that's what she wanted to do until she realized they have to go to as much school, if not more, than an actual doctor. Yeah. And she was like, fuck that. So, but I mean, good for you guys. I just it's not me. It is not me. And that's okay. Yeah. I don't that's okay. Don't want to see any I don't do well with blood. I don't want to see the organs. I don't No I just find it so fascinating. No severed feet. Ugh so many severed feet. Ugh. You live in Washington. You should be used to severed feet. I don't see them. Severed feet that just wash up on shore all the time. Which do wonder what the fuck that is from. I mean, there's there's theories. It's nothing nefarious. What what? Like just decomposing bodies or like from science labs or there's a bunch of But they dump them in the ocean? Well, they kind of sometimes they leak. I think sometimes some of them they say came from like Asia or something. Yeah. Yeah. Anyways, things happen. Let's do a joke. I need something. I don't know what I need. Not that. all right. I feel like we've done one similar to this, but I don't think we've done this one. But we're gonna find out. Okay. I man, I've been finding some unhinged jokes. Have you? Okay. yeah, you text us one the other day. It was a good one. I will text you ones that I we cannot put on our. yes, because it was not there was one really good one too that I was like, we could never fucking say that. No. all right. There are three old ladies sitting on a park bench. A man in a trench coat walks by and flashes them. Two of the old ladies have a stroke. The other couldn't reach that far. I like that one. See, I don't think we've done we've done a similar one. It took me a second, I'm like, I get it. I get it. Anyways. Yeah, no, I like that one. Yeah. Ten out of ten. Okay, good. Thanks. Yeah. I try. I do my best. Hello and welcome to Lunatic's Soup. We're gonna start that one again. Just leave that in. Who cares? It's in there. Hello and welcome to Lunatic Soup, the podcast where we go into all things wild, weird, and unknown. We're your host, Meg. And I'm Raina. Ready to rip some Lunatic Soup. Let's go. All right. Today for our cider choice, we're back to an OG. Bullshit. Well, we're just drinking some of the cider that I still have from Canada because it's fucking delicious. I was I was trying to make a we're gonna name everything America joke, but I'm like, what would you call it? North North America? The great North America? Great North America. Did you see that South Park is changing their name to South America? Or allegedly. I know if they're actually doing it or saying they are, obviously, but just made me hilarious. Made me hilarious. But anyways, this is the grower's pear. We've had this before. It's the juicy Bartlett pear. You Canadians, if any of you guys are listening, you're very lucky you guys get this because you know what I really liked? She was taking it out of like the six pack. Like you know the you know how we have the little plastic thing that when we were kids you were told, Make sure you cut it so you don't kill the sea turtles. this one's cardboard. Yeah. They still have those. What the heck? If that's an I know. Why are we not all doing it? Like weird. I mean we save the sea turtles. Save the turtles. And the fishies. The fishies. we were always told about sea turtles. I mean it's turtles, but it's all the things. All the things in the ocean. The mermaids. Maybe the aliens. Maybe. I'm Save the aliens. Save them. No, they to save the I just have to say they need to come come save me. this is a sour sledder. Sour slaughter. god. True lime. powder. Thanks, man. I'm gonna let you you're gonna god, I think I did a lot. okay, well whoops. Never too much lime. All right. We're we're recording this pretty early because we're getting ready for sweet baby Jesus, it tastes so good. Sorry. So the we're not quite. We're not quite if we f if we keep with the schedule. We're not quite into October yet. No, this is the this is the last one of September. I am currently allegedly when this airs on a houseboat in Lake Powell. Mm. Mm. that is good. I know. Do you see it? Just like sweet nectar of life. Come at me. I gotta figure out how to get this. Come at me, but I gotta figure out I feel like I need to like follow them and just see if they can send me stuff. That but I don't know how well alcohol sends across borders. I don't know. I mean, it'd probably be pretty expensive. I mean, the next time I know someone who goes to Canada, I feel like you know people all the time. I do know people all the time. I will let them know. I think what I hate is that you can only bring a certain amount through. So you have to tell them that you're bringing it through? Well, they ask. Like they'll be like, what are you bringing through? And you can say, like, and out or alcohol, which we usually I always announce everything because like I'm not fucking with customs. No, no. I have an alien husband. And so but it's the yeah, you can only bring a certain amount. But or I think you can bring more, but you just have to pay extra taxes on it. I think. I see. But I feel like it'd be worth it. This one is really good. It just tastes like a delicious juice. I just want somewhere in America to figure out the cider. That is, it's like. I don't I don't even know juicy Bartlett pear. But it's not even like it's not overly anything. No, it's just I mean it's pearry but in the best way and I fucking love pear. I do too. I really love pear. My pear tree didn't make pears this year. Made a few. wow. I don't but you know like the previous year. Yeah, it's made a bunch. You were gonna make cider out of it one year. Yeah. Dang, that's annoying. Hopefully next year. Maybe. Maybe. Ma but I feel like the weather's all over the place, so it's causing things to like my Well when the fuck are my tomatoes gonna ripe? 'Cause mine are just here and there, but I've got them off. But right there counter. But even if they're like green, 'cause they're just like chillin' and I'm like fucking ripen's ripen. Mm-hmm. Feel it. I have so many, they're my it's getting out of control. I've I know. it's bad. I've been pro cooking and stuff. Yeah, I g well I wanna get to start canning and I've made salsa, I've done bruschetta. I know. Me too. That's my favorite. that's my favorite. Yeah. So I was gonna say something about October, but then I looked at the calendar and we're not technically in October yet. No, yeah. So next week of September. Yeah, and then if you're listening now, next week I will be in New York. New York. Going to I'm so excited. what do you who are you going to? Harry Styles, there it is. I almost said Benson Boone and I knew that was wrong. But like I was like it's a man It's a man. It's a man. My brain just had to like I don't know, calibrate. my gosh. My my daughter has a new teacher and her name is Lena. And so I just think it's a mantelina hyena. Isn't that her name from Who Framed Roger Rabbit? Yes. Actually, nah, I don't remember that at all. But I now that you say it I do. Yeah. You've seen that in the I've seen it. But just bit not for a long time. I mean it's time. It's like an older movie. Yeah. Such a good movie. Yeah. It's such a good movie. I mean, I feel like that when I saw it, it was like I mean I was a kid, so I don't even remember a lot of it. no, it's a regular watch. no. It's such a good movie. No God. Okay. What are we watching? What are we watching? What are we take Someone take me outside. And do what? Bury me in the ground. I'm done. I'm tapped. My brain fog is so bad. It's been so bad since I got COVID. And I just like I can't fucking my brain does not work anymore. I mean, we all know my brain struggled as is, but now Current state, not good. Not even a sprinkle? Not a s there's fucking not even a glaze on there at the moment. Like fucking dry. Just a just a dry. I don't even know if it's been fried yet. Not even fried. Yeah, just doughnut doughing there. Yeah. Isn't that what it felt like in your hands earlier? The brain? No, because the formaldehyde like hardens it a little. Anyways, okay. I was surprised. I believe it. Yeah. Because isn't it if it doesn't do that, it like just isn't it like plop? I I mean I've never built a fresh one. Yeah. I don't know. I don't know. Well, I guess it can't just do that because they have to get it out of the head somehow and keep it intact. I don't know how it works. Anyways, I don't wanna know. What are we talking about today? Keep well let's go. The Coonine Poltergeist. Love a poltergeist. This one's sometimes called the ghost that wouldn't stay at home. And is one of Ireland's most terrifying supernatural ghost stories. So that's in this one probably would have been good to do like in a March. Yeah, with like the St. Patrick's time. I do my Scottish accent the whole time. Which is my favorite. Because you're so good at it. But it's not Irish. Doesn't matter, you're still good at it. We're just gonna pretend. He was that's my favorite. She went through a whole episode and I'm like like the whole time, like being like, You're crushing it. Like you're just so good at that accent. Like, and I was for real, wasn't like being facetious, and we get to the end and we she said something and we realized it was a shrewd. No, that was Shrek. Wrong country, man. But you did so good. But thank you. You know what? I did my best. I love an Irish accent. There's a girl that's on this season of Dancing with the Stars who is also on Traders. Her name's Moira. And she has Yeah, do you know like when she talks? my god, a train. Her accent is way different. Way different Irish. Like it's like I don't know what area, but it's like a it's almost like having like a southern draw or like an Alabama, like a south like the real deep south. Real deep south. But it's for Ireland. It's that not that Ireland's that big, but wherever she's from, it's it's an odd accent. Is it Northern Ireland? Is she from Northern? Maybe that's the difference. Might be. No idea. I don't know the difference between their accents. I'll let you know this summer when I go. Northern Ireland's a different country though. That's why I'm wondering if it's learn something new every day. I didn't know that. Mm. Mm. Could be. Anyhoodles. So between nineteen seven and nineteen thirteen, the Mur Murphy family of Rural Kunin County Fermad, I think that's how you say it, uh-huh. said that they were one of the most tormented families by poltergeist. I mean, I don't know if there's many of those. So if you are one, perhaps you are one of the most. I do wonder how many families don't like it doesn't end up publicly knowing knowing about it. I don't sure most. Because yeah, people don't want you don't want to be told. Yeah, because people like think you're crazy and that there's I mean, there's I don't know. Anyways. But they said that they were tormented by a violent escalating paranormal activity in their home that drew the attention of priests, politicians, neighbors, and the national media. So this is a documented one. This is not a hearsay, this is heaven which we love those because and we're gonna talk about one next month. probably next week we'll record it. that there's a lot of stuff there, but then you realize a lot of it is from the fam like from the person who wrote a book about his experience. Which, you know, could be could be you take you I mean everybody is entitled to their experience, but you don't know how shady someone is. Yeah. That is the truth. Mm-hmm. So unlike a lot of ghost stories, the Coonine poltergeist story Is very well documented. There's newspaper reports, there's priest testimonies, there's BBC investigations, eyewitness accounts, and historical records of an exorcism or of exorcisms on this property. This story has been retold for over a century and it's been on radio broadcasts in books, documentaries, and has been the subject of paranormal investigations. Okay. So a lot of people know about this one. This is very well documented. We'll we'll see what we think. We'll see what we think. Okay. So Koonine is a remote forested townland near Brookboro in County Fermad. In the early 1900s, it was an isolated farming community with not a lot of outside contact. the home in question had a typical early century type home. There were stone walls, a thatched roof. There was a loft above the home that was used for hay and there were several outbuildings. And I I s I suppose that's normal for Ireland. Yeah. It doesn't sound normal to me, but I'm not from Ireland. From Ireland. Yeah. I wonder why we don't have like the thatched room. Or did we? And everything's like, did we did we have that kind of home? I don't know. I don't think of it. You know? Like when I think of stuff like that, I can't. Like I need to see. So like nineteen hundreds Irish. Like a thatched roof is like usually has hay and stuff. I guess we did and over in like New England and stuff, and then either the homes are taken down or they've they've updated. But I feel like it's Yeah, like I mean it's like that grass. Yeah, I but I feel like you just hear about that over there. I feel like maybe when they came over here, either we didn't have the correct like material. Vegetation, if you will. Yeah. I don't know. Also the bugs. I mean the bugs. Bugs. So thatched roofs are extremely rare in the United States. primarily due to strict local fire and safety codes. I mean, but that's like now. Yeah, traditional long stemmed water reeds do not hold up well in American regions. and yeah, again, okay, so that makes sense. So that that that solves that mystery. Yeah, so there are a couple around, obviously, but they're more for like I mean, there's a tiki tiki bar. Okay. They'll do like those kinds of things. Which I because you see that in like Like down South. The Pacific. Yeah. Yeah, the South Pacific. You see like the thatched roof, but that's with their whatever their local I don't know, palm cronds and that kind of You see that a little bit like down in Key West and stuff like that. Yeah, you would yeah. So but it wouldn't be the same stuff as obviously Ireland is has theirs made out of. That was a useless tangent, but I was curious. It was a question that popped in and I asked the question and then you answered it. I I mean they're so pretty though. It looks like hobbitses should live there. hobbitses. Looks like Hobbites. I do love a hobbit home. But not with the bugs. A true hobbit would not like the bugs. Yeah. Mm mm. No bugs. No. Very cleanly, those hobbits. so we're gonna talk about the Murphy family. Michael Murth Murphy and Bridget Corrigan married in eighteen eighty eight and settled on a thirty acre farm in Koonin. They had eight children between eighteen eighty-eight and nineteen seven. Okay. on November seventh, nineteen seven, Michael Murphy Murphy died from a severe head injury after an accident. Bridget was pregnant with her final child and was left alone to run the farm and raise her large family. I think these large families were very common at the time in Ireland. They're Catholic. I I feel like you would hear about that. Yeah, the Irish people had big families often. So shortly after Michael's death yes, they do. Yeah. Shortly after Michael's death, the hauntings began. The earliest phenomenon were subtle. there was persistent knocking on the front door. Bridget said it sounded like someone was knocking on the door, they would go to open it and no one would be there. Then the knocking would come from all over. Can you imagine that? No. Like knocking on the front door is one thing, but then if there's just like like phantom knocks, so I have to tell you what happened the other day in our house where we thought that there was actually a ghostie, like to the point where Tex freaked the fuck out and came upstairs and was What the hell's going on? He was on the couch downstairs. I was in bed and I was just I was looking at my phone, like laying on my side with my back to my door, and all of a sudden I heard footsteps on our stairs, which that is not an uncommon thing to happen in our house. I it does not happen, it has not happened for a while. I was gonna say it'sn't been a while, but you know, when it happened, I was laying there and in my head I was kind of like, okay, that could have been the dog, but the dog never came up. And I was like, Okay, well, I'm just gonna ignore it because what else am I gonna do? And then about two minutes later, or not even like a minute later, Tex comes up and he goes, Were you just downstairs? And I was like, no. And he's like, because someone just hit the bells. We have bells on our door. It's like the witch's bell for like cle sound cleansing and whatever. And to let us know if it opens so the dog doesn't run out. and I was like, no. So the bells on the door rang, and there were footsteps on the stairs. And we're like, what the fuck? And I look at him and I was like, I've been laying here. I didn't see a kid come and go, but like, that doesn't mean there didn't. I was like, right, right, go check. Sure shit. He went into Leia's room and she was still awake. It was like eleven o'clock at night. my god. And she had left her blanket on the landing right by our stairs. see you knew. She picked it up and when she picked it up, it flicked the bell and then walked. But we both had a moment of being like, fuck, Pickle Rick is back. Someone's back which it wouldn't surprise me because But it was right after we recorded too. Yeah, and 'tis the season. And t well, you're right, it is tis the season. Like that veil is getting thinner and thinner and thinner. Yeah, yeah, never say it never. But you said a couple weeks ago, I don't even remember when it was. Something fall off your shelf. Yeah. Literally we're sitting here and it just went kaplonk. We were like, Awesome. That was when we were doing the ghost tube app. yeah. Do you want to turn it on? Yeah, we do. Okay. Yeah. We. I say that. I just spoke for all of you. We want you to turn on the ghost tube. If anybody doesn't like it 'cause you get confused, let us know. Because I don't know. I my s I feel like every my I talk to my sister in text. They see it they think it's fun. I don't know, but who knows. No, you can tell what what is that. And I mean, come on, it's not like we tangent any more or less. We tangent all the time anyway. Like come on. I don't know what you're talking about. We never tangent. Nope. Okay. Goes to Bapazon. I know why I'm green in it, but whatever. All right, go. so knocking at the door, went to answer it. Nobody's there. Then there was knocking at the window. There to the walls. and it spread all around the interior door. So now it wasn't even the extra doors are knocking. All the doors there's knocking from inside the house. Okay. The Murphys thought it was pranksters, but it just kept escalating. There were heavy footsteps heard in the loft where the hay was stored. So in their like attic type space it was a hay stall. Okay. and it was only accessible by a staircase from outside the house. So they thought that someone had wandered up there and was pulling a prank because you could get to it from outside the house and then you were above the house, you could make knocking, you could do footsteps, all of this stuff. but when they would go investigate, immediately after they heard the sound, the room was empty. Neighbors were invited to witness the sounds and they confirmed hearing them, but nobody could explain them. Bridget would invite friends and neighbors. I love this. They would sit in the kitchen together, drinking tea and eating, listening to all that was happening. Wild. Every now and then they would investigate and there was no noise the there was no Diana. Diana. Hey, that's my middle name. Interesting. We've been getting a lot of names. We we've never gotten so many names and then last names. Also, Diane is her mom's name across the street, which we got her name last week, which I don't know. Yeah. I did this at her house, so who knows? I don't know. but every now and then they so so I mean we would do this. Just everybody sitting around in the kitchen. a thousand percent drinking like w wanting to hear what's Yeah, and then and then they would hear it and then they would go investigate and then nothing would be there. Yeah. But I just I feel like that sounds like a good knob. I mean, you and I would have a great time doing that. I think so. And we would have the best time. Within weeks the haunting became more aggressive. Pi plates, pots, pans would be lifted up into the air and smashed against the wall. No, unless you're gonna buy me a new set of plates. Well, I mean, she is a single mother of eight. yeah, her husband died. Exactly. Exactly. Thank you for understanding. You you don't have the money to Replace all of this stuff. No, that is yeah. Well, was it there was somebody, was it on TikTok who like was like, If you're gonna be here, at least do the dishes like a ghost or something. Yeah, like it was like there's this girl, well, one of them that I saw, she had a ghost in her basement where she did her laundry and she would get it would turn the water on down in her basement and she would be like, God, what'd she call him? The funniest name, and she would just yell at him and be like, If you're gonna fuck with it, at least get something fucking done. Right. Like how dare you be in my house and not If you're gonna start the water, start the laundry. Don't No. How dare you? Mm mm. Bed cloth bed cloths would move as if somebody were underneath. Think about that person. I don't like that one. That's think about that. You're in room alone and the bed the linens are starting to move like somebody's in them. Yeah, no, that's a get that would get me the fuck out of my house real fucking fast. That would to me too. Like the that image like and your bed is supposed to be this like secure It's my favorite fucking place. It is. Yes. And then it just No. No. I love that that is actually gets you 'cause I feel like not a lot would get you that yeah, because that I mean that would be 'cause a lot would get me not a lot would get me to leave my house. That one might get me to leave my house. That would be like just you cross the boundary. Yeah. You cross the boundary. Matter anything in the shower. That's fine. That's mine. That's your boundary too. I can't talk. Well, you're talking through this. Keep talking, man. We're listening. That's your boundary. The ghost has boundaries too, this one says. Diana, I think. Yeah, but that and anything anything in the shower. Like, nope. That is a boundary. Well, because then you're just like you're already vulnerable. Don't open the notes on the mirror. Like open the shower curtain. Yeah, no. Yeah, that god. Bridget witnessed the bed rising several inches above the ground and slamming back onto the floor. No, thank you. And then furniture would shake and topple over. Okay. All of those are pretty normal poltergeist things. A thousand percent. The the bed things still though. I don't think I do feel like we've heard that before in different like You've heard sheets getting pulled off the bed. True. That's actu okay, you're right. You know what I mean? True. Maybe we've it's either seen it in movies or Potentially Reddit stories, there's been like one or two where it's said where it looks like someone's laying in a bed and then they're not or something. I don't know. It's the the what case was it? Arnie Johnson, the devil made me do it. I don't know if it was the actual story or if it was from the movie where he's laying in the waterbed and like a face comes through the waterbed. trying to explain to my children a waterbed the other day. Really? I had one. Texas parents had one. I we had a friend who had one. We never had one. Just so fucking weird. And sleeping on one is this like the weirdest thing. my god. Uh-huh. A bizarre what nineties thing? Yeah, I remember having to fill it and he had to get like a garden hose and put it onto the sink and like bring it through the house into the bedroom. And just yeah. We at one time texts grandma pretty positive. Ethan. Ethan Ethan. Holy shit, another name. We never get names. This is so weird. I'm pretty sure she got stuck. She was like staying over at their house to like watch the kids while his parents are out of town or something, and she got stuck in the waterbed. But couldn't get out. They had to like get help. Three Australian boys. That was no jokes. No jokes. No jokes. He might correct me. He'll probably have to correct me, but I'm pretty positive I've heard this story from him. So I would like to hear the story from him. I'm sure it's hilarious. It sounds it. Yeah. Anyway. Ceiling. Ceiling. Hey Bob. There's Bob. The skeleton, Bob. Hey Bob. Hi, Bob. Bob's gotta come out. It's Halloween time, Bob. It is. Bob Bob, the girls were asking. So they said you need a friend. My husband and my daughter went to Walmart last week and came back with a skeleton. I literally almost bought one yesterday when I was at Walmart. I see, I walked by them, but I was on I was on a focused. I was on a mission. Focus. I was going to the clearance section to look for clearance like floaties to bring with us to like pal for the house boat. Yeah, because I just wanted to see what they had. They didn't have anything. good so but I w walked past it and then I was like I gotta get out of here. Yeah. $24.97 to be exact. I like it. And they're the good ones where you can like maneuver them. So like get them to sit upright. See yeah. I I mean yeah Bob's like that. Yeah. Bob was a target buy though. Yeah. I don't have not for twenty four ninety seven. Yeah I have no idea. Well probably I think it was like twenty five dollars probably like pre COVID. well. I think that's when we got him so that adds up. Bob's pretty old. I mean He's got no skin. My favorite was whenever we did this ghost tube app and s and it said like look up and you and I both look up and Bob's staring at us. And we were that was a good one. Bob. Where's Pickle Rick? Play a drinking game with us. Yeah. Come on, pickle Rick. Come out and play. Huh? Do we want that? No. No, we we do. We don't pick We do, but let's see if he does it. Or whoever's here can play a drinking game with us. Tell us when to drink. The entity seemed to enjoy mocking the family. no. it would start playing music through the house like ancient ancient. Are you calling her ancient? I know, she's so old. So old. I'm so old. Older than dirt. Shut your mouth. Anyway, older than me. I don't know what that even is. Dust. Shh the hell up. We gotta be nice to our elders. You're gonna be I had to yell at you about that the other day. I said, listen to your elders. You were doing something, and I was like, Stop it, listen to your elder and then I was like, I take back. So tunes like the Soldier Song and Born Water would play throughout the house, and knocking sounds kept rhythm with the music. So this is intentional. That part would be cool. I mean I mean d do you do you freak out or do you just be like start bopping around I feel like it depends on what pre pre being in the sheets, we're friends. Yes. Post that absolutely the fuck not. Get out of my bed. Get out of everything. Get out of my bed. Stay out of my stay out of my bedroom. Stay out of my life. Stay out of my bathroom. Yeah. Don't mess with my kids. D yeah. I wonder how the kids were doing. I think we're gonna find out? Well, no, I don't I know. Okay. I cause they were I mean, they were so the first one so they were married in eighty eight and they had babies until seven. So that's o that's twenty year almost twenty years. That's a lot of babies. That's a lot of babies. So there were like a a wide array of ages. Yeah. From like nine eighteen nineteen to newborn. Yeah. Shit. Can you imagine? No. Can you imagine? I mean, all I know what my reference is Computer. That is a computer. Yeah, we're recording a podcast. It's where we talk to we tell stories and then people listen to us. So people are listening to you. like I my little sister is eleven years younger than me. And that is like the closest but we're you know, we're wide four of us are widespread. Right. But it is like but that's just a l I mean, having that siblings that my neighbor had a kid graduate from high school and then a baby. That's yeah, yeah, well that's wild. Well, she's a phenomenal mom. Like I good for her. Good for her. I just I can't imagine going through those two phases of life as a parent. I think we're like my farthest age gap, I think, is Kinley and Leigh are five years apart. Yeah, my oldest and youngest are eight and a half years apart. Yeah. Which I think is a a lot, but I mean for kids it's not that bad. Yeah. You didn't just go insane and just back to back to back. Boom, boom, boom, boom. Yeah. Hmm. Hmm. Hmm. so witnesses, including the clergy, reported This this is another creepy one. gosh. Shapes forming on the walls. Okay. The one time I experienced that, I was getting re prepped for surgery and they gave me something. They go, Do you feel that? And I said no. So they gave me more. What is it said? Visit me. they gave me more and then the walls started bubbling. Yeah. And I I imagine that's what certain drugs are like. I where the walls like start moving. Would say that if I knew anybody who had taken mushrooms in their life. I don't know if I do know anybody, but I would imagine that seeing the walls ripple is like a normal thing. Something that occurs that you're yeah, it's not fun. But imagine shapes forming in the walls. Like, okay, the it was in in Stranger Things when like the face formed. I know somebody who's seen something like that. He won't leave. who won't leave? Ethan. Ethan! I mean, those are that we got Diana and Ethan. So Ethan won't leave. Is that who we're talking about? Pickle Rick, are you back? Who knows? Anyways, but yeah, I could I But when you're already ha have taken something and you're expecting it, it depends on your mental state of like you realize that whether you realize that you know that it's happening because of that, like you had drugs for surgery. Yeah. You know that's the reason why. Correct. This just seeing it just happened. The fuck no. Mm-hmm. Hail no. I mean hail no no matter what, but hail no to that. They would also report hearing groans from empty rooms, blankets rising and falling, as if someone were breathing beneath them. See that yeah, no. And one priest priest described the sensation of snakes squirming under the sheets when he sat on the bed. Yep. Hard hard pass. Absolutely the fuck not. Mm-mm. So Two priests, Father Eugene Coyle and Father Peter Smith Smythe, S Y T H Smythe. That's Smythe. I would say Smythe. Smythe. visited the home repeatedly. They witnessed levitation of household objects, snoring, hissing, and spitting sounds. Snoring. Snoring sound. We've talked about that. Like I mean, I already have to listen to it with my husband. Don't you fucking dare. And my dog. With a ghost? Like no. No. I like some nights the dog and text. One and then the other. One and then the other. Wide open like, what is my life? What did I do to deserve this? And then if there was a ghost doing it, like, hell the fuck no. And that would just be icing on the cake. I would just that'd be I'm out. I would call a priest for that one. Get the fuck out. And get him a CPAP while you're at it, right? okay, so they said there was levitation of household objects, snoring, hissing, and spitting sounds and sounds, and again the shapes under the bedcloths. Father Smythe claimed that the entity felt like a rat under his hand and then a eel wrapping around his wrist. So he sat on the bed and it that's what he said it felt like. He could physically feel something like rising underneath the blanket. No thanks. And that seems to be like the Big currents. Yeah. Like it had a thing for beds. Yeah. So local MP, so a member of Parliament visited and confirmed witnessing paranormal activity. So now we have clergy, we have neighbors. Yep. The family. And we have a a political official. Someone from Parliament, which is kind of a big one. The house. The house. House. This house? Or that the house we're talking about. They visited the house. I don't know. No, there we go. Singer. Singer. Singer. It's not me. his involvement in this story gave it national attention. Makes sense. So the priests were like, okay, something's going on here. So Father Coyle was given permission for two exorcisms to be performed in the house. A s he said that during the exorcisms, bed sheets would rise off the beds, cups and plates would fly around the room, and he described them as deafening groans. Those are some loud groans. Yeah. Coming from all around the house and upstairs. Okay. Both exorc exorcisms were among the very few exorcisms to ever be carried out in Ireland. That wasn't a thing that they did. They weren't just all willy nilly with them. They they weren't Ed Warren. Blessed. The house was blessed. I don't know. Blessed why. Mm. unfortunately they didn't work. And the Merthvie family continued to live in this house with a poltergeist. They kept with the same the groans, the bed sheets, the cups and plates and things flying everywhere. A curse. Well, that's what I'm getting to next, actually. Are you reading over her shoulder? Local gossip said that one of the Murphy's sons found a book titled The Legion of Doom and Attempted Demonic Rituals. so there are claims that he found this book and that it gave instructions on how to practice satanic wit rituals And how to contact demons. Unfortunate, that is very unfortunate. The sun stated started to develop an unhealthy interest in the spirit world and was supposed to have tried to raise demonic spirits into the house. So it sounds like he found it f before all this happened and that's how it's what it says. That's what they're thinking. There's no evidence that this is true, but that's kind of the story that the town was going with. Because he seemed like he was more on the macabre side. And In the nineteen hundreds, that was a weird thing to be. In the nineteen hundreds in rural Ireland, I imagine 'cause everyone everyone was like church going and Catholic and you know, like it must have been something. Something. So they're blaming him for all of this. Okay. So After this, they they started to become ostracized. The rumor of their son of her son being like a satanic follower, mm-hmm elderly. Elderly. Elderly. caused the family to be completely ostracized. And the mom was like, I just can't do this anymore. So they decided to move. They left their home in nineteen thirteen and they sailed for America. Okay. It didn't stop. It seemed that the poltergeist had followed them on the boat to America. no. It is well documented that passengers on the ship complained about rappings and bangings coming from the Murphy's cabin, which eventually went throughout the ship. Now, I'm going to argue there were eight children. Right. Eight children. There were eight children. And boats made weird noises anyways. Yes, but that's bound to be a bit noisy. Just a bit. Just a bit. And but then it traveling throughout the boat again, that is, you know Doomed. I mean eight children. Yes, we're all doomed. but the noises became so bad that the captain went personally what'd he say? Double doomed. too doomed. Okay. The Murphys are doomed. Better not be talking about me. It's not us. Not me. the noises became so bad that the captain went and personally talked to Mrs. Murphy to tell her to stop making so much noise in her cabin. Because eight children, right? Yeah. the ca captain did not believe that there was a poltergeist on the ship and he threatened the Murphys that he would put them off the ship if the noise continued. What on a fucking iceberg? You're gonna put eight children on a little dinghy and set them off into the Atlantic Ocean? I mean I mean, but that had to be pretty bad for the captain to say that. Yeah. That had to be prepared. There's something going on. Yeah. Like what is what do you say? Reasoned. They reasoned with him. They reasoned with him. It almost sounds like They're talking along with the story. It does seem like they're talking along with the story. But it's that's what it seems like. I mean, but then with AI, could they be talking along with the story? I mean, could they talk about that's true. I use it up in Canada and it was it's anything. And it was literally having a conversation with us. Yeah. And there was no literally is no Wi Fi, there is no phone service, there is no nothing, and it works. No thanks. No thanks. No thanks. Okay. No thanks. According to accounts, the family moved into a new home. The knocking, footsteps, and violent activity continued. Mm-hmm. And that is why this became known as the ghost who wouldn't stay home. It's considered to be one of the most famous Irish ghost stories in history. Thrilled. Thrilled. there's been Hollywood movies based on the story. The story has been told in many houses, like around the campfire type thing. Yeah. And it's usually told at Halloween to scare younger people. from wandering around where they shouldn't be. Did he wander around? No, just don't go to don't go to houses you don't know. yeah, that makes sense. Where are we? We're in Bonnie Lake, Washington. Should I not say that? I mean I think everybody knows at this point. It's not hard to find us. It's not. Unfortunately. Unfortunately it's not I don't know where you are, but that's where we are. So this wasn't just an ordinary ghost. It was deemed a poltergeist. Please go. I don't want to go. Are you talking to us or talking to your friend? Yeah. Mansion. Mansion. I would love a mansion. Are you gonna get us a mansion? Yes. With different wings and I can have my solitary but still have my best. I don't know that I want it like that big, but I would like, I don't know, like eight thousand square feet seems normal. That's Tom. Tom, get on it. Edmonds? That's Tess's real name, guys. Tom. Get on that eight thousand square foot mansion. Yeah, literally. Only if someone else will clean it. 'Cause I'm not cleaning No, obviously, but if you have a mansion, then you have people to clean it. I mean, if you can afford a mansion, yeah, you better like That's why I'm okay with it if you can't afford for someone to Yeah, eight thousand's a bit aggressive. I'll go five. That's not a mansion though. Five thousand square feet's not a mansion. That's a big house. That's just a big house. Yeah. Bigger than this. Love this house. It's done well, but Time to time to get I want property. Like I want my h I don't want a huge house because eventually it's just gonna be my husband and I, right? But I want something with like outbuildings. Like I want like if we have a big garage, I want an apartment above it. That's what I want too for when our family and friends from Australia come over, like then they have a place to stay. They're not like on top of us. And I'll like I'll have a little mini place and that's where I can do writing and you know, that's where I can Do things. I just want to make sure I have room for my kids to come back with their kids. That's the biggest thing. He told you. He told So Tom told you he's getting me a mansion. That's what I'm taking from this. Thomas. Keep keep at it, Edmunds. I like I like what I'm hearing right here. imagine if it doesn't happen. Who's in the doghouse? Is it Tom or is it The ghosty? The ghosty. I don't know. I haven't decided yet. Yeah. Mmm. Do we have a time frame on this, Ghostie, please? So I can decide when I'm who when and who I'm at it. Mm-hmm. That'd be a way from here. Are you from here? Where's from here? I'm from here. I mean, loaded questions. Neither one of us are from here. Well, you're from Washington. that's true. But we're both from planet Earth. We're both from Planet Earth. In the United States of America. Genie genealogically, is that a word? Mm-hmm. We are from the mountain of Caucasus. We're European. Anyways, continue with the story. I gotta figure out where I was. so this was a poltergeist. Normal ghosts are said to be spirits of a dead person who lingers around a place that they would have been familiar with. Yes. A poltergeist is usually considered to be Ooh, a visit. Visit you. Don't visit me. What the fuck? Is considered to be logical. Logical? Not very logical. a poltergeist is usually considered to be an entity that causes distress by moving objects around. The word polterge poltergeist actually is a German word that means noise making ghosts. And we did an episode on poltergeist where like went into that. That was a long time ago though. We've d like there's different types of haunting, there's different types of spirits, there's, you know, demonic, there's you know, yeah ghosts, there's poltergeist, there's listening. We are listening. I hope a lot of people are listening. Who's listening? I don't know. You're listening. Who is listening? You are listening. yeah. And it depends, like, 'cause there are like when things get moved in my house, like we've been sitting here and something flies off the shelves, which has happened a few times. Yeah. It doesn't happen a ton. I wouldn't say that I have a poltergeist. I just have a ghostie who likes to occasionally move things. Right. No, a poltergeist I think it is something more aggressive too. Yeah. Like there's no aggression in this house. No. Well. I mean It did throw the carpet cleaning bottle off my shelf. I was gonna make a joke about teenagers. that. my god, I got in trouble today. I get in trouble every time. today. Do you wanna know why I got in trouble? This is my favorite because we are growing we have a garden veggie patch in the backyard, which very proud of. Shit ton of cucumbers. And my child wanted to bring cucumbers to her friends at school because she brought one for lunch with hummus and they all of her friends are freaking out, and we have so many. So I was like, Of course, bring them. Yeah. So at this point, she's loading up trying to see the angle here. Lunchbox, all these cucumbers. And I say, You're just gonna put them in there without like beer. Does that mean drink? I'll take it. You want to play a drinking game with us? Anyways, loading them up in her lunchbox, and I merely suggest, cheers, that she put them in a Ziploc bag so that if they don't like finish them at lunch, they could take them so they're not wasted. God damn you, Reina. That is a stupid. Stupidest thing I have ever heard in my entire life. Green. It is green. I do like green. yeah. I am such a really good so overbarring. what is it was it was too much for before 7 a.m. Yeah. For it to be such I was like, I just take just put them in baggies so that if they don't finish No, I won't take them at all. You don't want me to take them. I was like, no, no, I just I'm sorry, what? No. What's happening? Just put just put in just put in a ziploc. Please, so that they can take home. They're not wasted. Okay. Anyways. You are over stepping. I am such a bitch. Like Jesus Christ. I know. Just really pissin'. I love pissing my kids off. I don't get it. I can't you guys, I'm gonna die. I've I mean no, we're we're not. We are. We have too many daughters. The hormones are really hormoning. Seven to be exact. Yeah. The it's fine. And then our own Karma. What the fuck? Okay, that's not fair. Listen here, Diana, or Ethan, whoever we're talking to. What karma? I don't have that karma. That's this is my husband's karma because he always wanted to be surrounded by women. I have asked my husband, you know, when you were younger and you just thought you'd live in a house full of women, is this what you meant? Yeah. Is this what you were? This what this is what you envisioned. Doubtful. Not so much. Doubtful. Well. Manifested it. So there are later accounts and documentation. There is a book, Shane Leslie's Ghost Book, which came out in nineteen fifty six, and Leslie connec collected priest testimony describing a ghost descending like a ball of wool in a black bag. That's that reminds me of like what's the what's the Disney movie? Sleeping Beauty. That's what I think of. Like the ball coming down. yeah. You know? Yeah. That's what I think of. like the floating ball. Yeah. Yeah. snoring and shifting shapes under the blankets. So that was again the theme. Yep. And hostility towards holy water. Okay. A story appeared in BBC's Northern Ireland's Greatest Haunt. So it is Northern Ireland. I can't see you. I can that's fantastic. I cannot stick can't see you. featuring modern paranormal teams exploring the abandoned cottage because the cottage is still there. Okay. The cottage is it's I mean it's old and dilapidated. And they're saying is it haunted? yeah. They're saying it's still there. Yeah. So but then so did it really travel with them or did it may I mean also maybe fucking spirits can do whatever the fuck. Who knows? In twenty ten, Marion Goodfellow was one of UK's top spiritual mediums and she visited the house as part of BBC's series, The Northern Ireland's Greatest Haunts. and they were doing an episode on the Kunine Ghost. she commented that it's probably the scariest and most awful place she had ever visited. Whoa, that says a lot. Uh-huh. She walked up the path towards the house. And became visibly short of breath. She could feel a presence of a man about five feet eight inches tall. And as she walked closer to the house, she said that the man was very angry and did not want her there, or anyone there. The man she made contact with was wearing a dark coke and holding a flat stone. She commented on him being very nasty to her and believed his name was John. She described the energy of the place as evil. And comments the man is saying, Get behind me, Satan. Ooh. So but that would like a poltergeist versus a ghost. You know, like which one which one are we talking about here? Because a poltergeist isn't necessarily like a ghost is somebody. Right? A poltergeist is an entity. So I I don't know. Okay. So the cottage is now in ruin. I am confused. You saw my face. Yeah. Very confused. The cottage is now in ruin, but it is a popular destination. There are ghost hunters, YouTubers, paranormal investigators, and folklore researchers that use the house as a place to go, which we've done that. We have houses that we use kind of as like practice places. That we know has spirits in Yep. And has energy. Yeah. And we kind of go and use it to to To see what's going on. To see what's going on, to practice, to use as a place that we know is something. So what can we what evidence can we get? Yeah. skeptics argue that the haunting may have been a psychological response to grief. We hear that a lot. Okay. Mass suggestion among family members and misinterpretation of natural sounds in an old cottage. I think that's a reach. Yeah. That's strange. That's it is strange. It is strange. Some paranormal researchers say that the activity centered around Annie Murphy was aligned with theories that a poltergeist phenomenon often often manifests around adolescent girls, which we've heard that before. She was the adolescent daughter in the family and that's when poltergeist activity was that Enfield ghost. Yeah. I feel like it was An Enfield. That was in yeah. That was over in the UK as well. Yeah. Yeah. Well as well, but Over the UK. And there's like some scientific theories that back that what we've gone into before. Mm-hmm. So this story has multiple witnesses, including clergy and politicians. Mm-hmm. Exorcisms that were officially sanctioned. So there's there's documented support of the exorcism. We know that the church will not low. Will not do stuff without like absolute And in Ireland apparently it's it it's very rare. Yeah for the Even back in the day was like, yeah, it it it's a thing. Yeah. the entity allegedly followed the family, although we don't have a lot of information post America of the family. So could they have just been like scared? Mm-hmm. Like could they have been like waiting for anything and any little thing was the sound. But they did have the sound on the boat coming over. The kids are probably of many different ages. Right. All one kid has to do is be like blab in their mouth to somebody and that gets around a boat, I'm sure, because you're on there for a couple weeks. yeah, and it could be pranksters from anybody. And it could be and then but then the sounds of a boat. There are so many sounds in a boat. You have no idea. There's like the pipes, the water, the like you're they're probably lower class. They were below deck, I'm guessing. There's you know, for that kind of thing, I know I know from Titanic, obviously. but there's so many things that like the boat park go, Jack. we're speaking of, we're gonna do Acquaintance. Acquaintance. when we're in Lake Powell, there's this tradition not tradition, God, a trend on that we saw on TikTok where everyone lays on like a floaty in the like lake and pretends to be like in this, you know, I'll never let go, Jack. I'll never like So I'm gonna do that with all my cousins. I love theirs. I can't wait to see it. I'm excited for that one. That's great. I'm like getting my content together of like what I'm gonna do. It's gonna be very fun. I mean I love it. Why not? Why not? Where's on a boat for Hey, hey, hey, we're getting a boat. I'm on a boat, motherfucker, don't you ever forget. That's what she's sad. So yeah, that's the Coonine poltergeist. I mean, yeah. Could be I believe that there was Poltergeist a hundred percent. I don't know that it followed them, but I I don't know that it followed them, but with the church sanctioned exorcism two of Yeah. And politicians, I think there's enough evidence to support that It actually was there. It was something. Yeah. And they still use it today. Yeah. So And people go and yeah, there's activity there and whatever. So I don't know. That's a good one. I like it. Yeah. I like it a lot. I mean we're gonna kick off spooky season. We're always spooky. Always spooky. I we've done we've done a lot of We did we did conspiracy We've done a lot of conspiracy lately, I was gonna say we've done a lot over the summer, I feel like, just because I feel like we're in a conspiracy time of life. I mean, that's just our worldview right now, right? We used to never touch a conspiracy haunt. Okay. Haunt. But I mean don't haunt me, but you yeah, we do haunted things. We have more. We have the demon of Brownsville coming up. Bitch. The Bridgeport Poltergeist. The Balfall Holmes. I'm a lying sack of crap is what I am. I don't like you in this current moment. I'll take it. I find you offensive. I said we hm. I'm fine. It's funny because I don't know that I actually have like my thoughts, feelings towards demons or what they are is what it is. I don't actually know. But I do take note. All right, taking note. But I d doomed. Awesome. shit. Thank you so much. This is the third doomed we've gotten. Uh-huh. But I do know is that every time we do demon episodes, it fucks with my electronics. And that's the part that I do like it twice this last June, I wanna say like my computer like No, I I edited a demon episode too. And did not and it is I when I episode when I do anything with a demon episode, I usually have like a glass of water or some or coffee or something on the desk. I always put it on the ground. I mean, and I've had my computer like flash and then just turn off where I thought it was like broken broken or it wouldn't charge. Hey, fuck you, Raya. Literally. And I would I think I text you and I was like, Meg, no fucking more. But in this case, is it a demon or is it a poltergeist? Because this story I feel like is more poltergeisty. This one's poltergeisty, but the one The you said we're doing an episode on a demon. Yeah, it says the demon of Brownsville Road, but potato potato. We'll see. We'll see. Someone help. SOS. Mm-hmm. Setting up What's the difference between a poltergeist and a demon? obviously something. I don't know. I mean, I don't know either. I don't know that I would like to know. Infestation. Christian. Christianity is the difference between Christian sum. So So demons would be like a Christian based thought. Interesting. So they could be the same thing and demon is just more a Christian terminology. These ghosties over here giving us some tea. I like it. They're they have a lot to say. Yes. You can That's actually really interesting because we've talked about that. Yeah. Where like demons were other creatures and it was Christianity that kind of named them. That was that's a cool one to get. Mm. I love it when this one gives us like when the ghost you bap says some things that we're like, okay. 'Cause we haven't said Christian or that's not been our that wasn't even our okay. I like it. Good job. Diana, Ethan, whoever you are. Nobody. Appreciate the contribution contribution to the show. Yes. All right. Well Well, that's the the polcoonine poltergeist. I like it. I like it a lot. I like it a lot. I like it a lot. And well, we're gonna just leave it at that and just make sure you go and get yourself some lunatic soup. And remember, in this crazy world, it's damn good to be a lunatic. Bye. Bye.
