- 0:05Welcome to The Hypnotist, the show that gives you inside
- 0:09access to cutting edge hypnosis with real clients facing
- 0:12genuine. Issues.
- 0:13Brought to you by The Hypnotherapist, demanded by
- 0:16celebrities CE OS and even royalty Adam Cox, these
- 0:21recordings took place live from Evans Clinic in London's world
- 0:24famous Harley Street. So get yourself comfortable and
- 0:31enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:39Hi, it's Adam here and you're about to listen to a
- 0:42relationship hypnosis session about ending a relationship.
- 0:48Now, most therapists. Most.
- 0:50Coaches would focus. Very much on improving and
- 0:55mending a relationship, and I would agree with that.
- 0:58If you're in a relationship and it's not quite living up to your
- 1:02standards, your needs aren't being met.
- 1:04It's a much better use of time and resources to try and improve
- 1:09the relationship so that you keep the relationship but you
- 1:12have a good relationship. But if you can't do that, and it
- 1:17may not be viable, communication may have broken down, then it
- 1:21does make sense to end that relationship.
- 1:24But there's two key things that can get in the way of ending a
- 1:27relationship. One is the sunk cost fallacy
- 1:31that if you've been in a relationship for a number of
- 1:33years, then it feels like, well, because you're familiar with it,
- 1:37it would be a shame to walk away from something that you've put
- 1:40so much time, energy and emotion in.
- 1:44And that can make sense if you can improve the relationship,
- 1:47but if you can't then it's almost like a gambler chasing
- 1:51their losses to try and get more money just to pay back what
- 1:55they've already lost. So that sunk cost fallacy is
- 1:59very dangerous in long relationships.
- 2:02And the best question to ask if you are in danger of a sunk
- 2:06cost? Fallacy is.
- 2:07If I wasn't already in this relationship and I had just
- 2:11joined the relationship in its current form, would I want this
- 2:14relationship? Would I enjoy this relationship?
- 2:17Would I find this relationship valuable?
- 2:19And if the answer is no. Then it tells you that it is.
- 2:22Below your minimum standard for this relationship to be
- 2:26desirable for you. So that's the sun cost fallacy.
- 2:30The second is conflict. A lot of people do not like
- 2:34conflict, and they believe that a breakup would lead to conflict
- 2:39or some other fallout. It might be that there are
- 2:42financial consequences of ending a relationship or an impact on
- 2:47shared children, for example. And I'm not saying that those
- 2:51things don't matter. What this hypnosis session does
- 2:55is helps to give clarity of factoring in every single
- 2:59variable. The length of the relationship,
- 3:01the dynamics with the individual, the past, the
- 3:04possible future, and any possible fallout is baked into
- 3:08three different scenarios. Keeping the relationship exactly
- 3:11as it is, no improvements, and imagining what that would lead
- 3:15to. Having a relationship that can
- 3:18be mended can be improved to the level that you're actually happy
- 3:21with. And then the third element of
- 3:24clarity in this hypnosis session is exploring a relationship.
- 3:28Where you. End the relationship and you
- 3:30move forward on your own. Now, this is not about
- 3:34encouraging you to end a relationship.
- 3:36It's about aiming to give you a sense of clarity based on your
- 3:40subjective evaluation of those three different futures.
- 3:45And if you believe it's the right thing to do, than to feel
- 3:50like it's unlocking a certain level of courage so that you can
- 3:53do the difficult thing if you believe it's the right thing to
- 3:57do. So if you can resonate with
- 3:58this, you might get some value. Now, the original client was in
- 4:02a long relationship. They used to travel a lot.
- 4:05They had, let's say, got to a point where the original things
- 4:10that attracted them to the relationship really just weren't
- 4:13there anymore, and they wanted to consider either getting that
- 4:16relationship back to where it would be valuable or imagining
- 4:19the future where they had their own cottage and were doing their
- 4:23own things on their own time. It's unlikely that's going to be
- 4:26your specific experience. So when you hear anything that
- 4:29doesn't quite fit your reality, ignore those suggestions and
- 4:33replace it with whatever is relevant for you, so that even
- 4:37though this session that was created for someone else can
- 4:40still be valuable and useful for you.
- 4:43For now though, find a quiet, comfortable place where you're
- 4:46not going to be distracted or disturbed.
- 4:49Relax and enjoy the session. Take a deep breath in and as you
- 5:24breathe in, breathe in that feeling of tranquility,
- 5:31serenity, relaxation. And as you exhale, allow
- 5:40yourself to release any frustrations, any anger, or any
- 5:45tension. Just give permission to release
- 5:53and feel like it's leaving your body on that outward breath.
- 6:02A wise man once said that holding on to anger or
- 6:09resentment is like drinking poison and secretly hoping that
- 6:16the other person gets sick. And I want you to get a feeling
- 6:23that any anger, any resentment, any frustrations are not for you
- 6:29to hold onto. And when you release them, you
- 6:35empower yourself to think cleanly, clearly, to assess what
- 6:45is now necessary for you to continue life as it is.
- 6:56As you breathe in, imagine breathing in a wonderful feeling
- 7:00of clarity. Not motivation, but clarity.
- 7:09Because when you see things for what they actually are,
- 7:15decisions become easier. I want you to think of the last
- 7:24time that you rolled a pair of dice.
- 7:31There was different combinations, lots of different
- 7:35numbers were possible, one to six on each die, and yet there
- 7:43was nothing you needed to do. You could simply observe what
- 7:50happened. And in the same way that there
- 7:55is possibilities and probabilities on the roll of a
- 7:59dice, I want you to get a sense that there are possibilities and
- 8:06probabilities in a relationship. And as you breathe in and
- 8:14breathe out, I want you to connect.
- 8:20Connect to the feeling you had when things were well, when
- 8:26there were that feeling of connection and love and respect
- 8:34and consideration. Not through the lens of
- 8:41nostalgia, no need to reminisce, but to prove to yourself that
- 8:51there was a time where this relationship didn't just meet
- 8:58your needs, it exceeded them. And therefore, for a period of
- 9:07time, this relationship worked for you and worked for your
- 9:14partner. And I want you to get a sense
- 9:18that sometimes things change subtly, in the same way that
- 9:29it's difficult to see a tree grow if you see that tree every
- 9:34day, but if you only see the tree once or twice a year, you
- 9:42notice the changes. I want you to become aware of
- 9:48that law of familiarity when you see someone every day.
- 9:55Subtle shifts happen gradually over time, in the same way that
- 10:08if you put a frog in a saucepan in cold water and slowly heat
- 10:15the temperature, the frog doesn't know the temperature's
- 10:19changing. It doesn't attempt to leave the
- 10:23water even when it's boiling, even if it's the end of that
- 10:30frog. And that's the danger of slow,
- 10:36incremental, subtle shifts that make something gradually worse.
- 10:44So as you breathe in and breathe out, I want you to imagine
- 10:47condensing 25 years into what feels like 25 memories.
- 10:59What's the most intense or profound memory in that first
- 11:05year that you were together? What emotions come up when you
- 11:12think of that memory? And then think of two or three
- 11:19years later. Maybe it was adventure and
- 11:24travel, new experiences and connection.
- 11:29And then think of another two or three years, so five or six
- 11:33years after you first met and what memory comes up then?
- 11:40And as you think in those three-year increments, you get
- 11:46to see a pattern forming. And for some that would get
- 11:54stronger, more connection. But for others it might feel
- 11:59like it's getting colder or more distant, less empathy, less
- 12:06interactions. And then imagine the last three
- 12:11or four years and ask yourself the question.
- 12:19But if the last three or four years were the first three or
- 12:24four years, would it have even lasted 3 or 4 years?
- 12:34As you breathe in and breathe out, I want you to imagine what
- 12:40it would feel like to imagine a cinema with three screens.
- 12:53How unusual would that be? A cinema with three different
- 12:58screens and maybe they curve around you or maybe the cinema
- 13:05is just very big and they are side by side by side.
- 13:12As we explore three different futures, I want you to imagine
- 13:19on the screen all the way on the left, this this is a future when
- 13:28nothing changes. And some people believe that
- 13:37anything you don't change, you choose.
- 13:41That's why things continuing become a choice.
- 13:48And I want you to imagine the next 5 or 10 years if things
- 13:53remain on the same trajectory. What level of connection is
- 13:59there? How much laughter,
- 14:04conversations? How much interest or value?
- 14:13I want you to see the good, the bad, and the ugly.
- 14:18No elaborations, no embellishments.
- 14:20See it for what your unconscious believes.
- 14:23It would be 5 or 10 more years of the trajectory you're
- 14:31currently on. I would imagine seeing it like
- 14:35you're seeing a movie on a screen.
- 14:37You're not in your own body, you're just witnessing.
- 14:42Because sometimes in the same way that when you see a friend
- 14:47or a family member making choices in their life, it seems
- 14:51obvious what to do. But it's harder when you're
- 14:56living it. So as you imagine seeing
- 14:59yourself like an actor on a screen, what would you be
- 15:03shouting at the screen, hoping that character does?
- 15:10Just allow that movie to continue to the natural end of
- 15:16that movie, even if it's beyond 10 years.
- 15:21What is the end of that story? And then imagine looking at the
- 15:27middle screen, and I want you to imagine just like the phoenix
- 15:36from the flames, I want you to imagine that in the middle
- 15:41screen something happens to reignite whatever you need in
- 15:49the relationship to want to remain in that relationship.
- 15:55And it doesn't have to be passion and excitement or love
- 16:02and intimacy. I want you to see in that middle
- 16:06screen your needs are being met. Not wishes, not fantasies, not
- 16:16likes and wants. But what you?
- 16:19Absolutely need in that relationship for you to want to
- 16:28stay. And maybe you're seeing smiles,
- 16:36interactions, thoughtfulness, consideration.
- 16:41Maybe you're seeing effort being made, questions being asked.
- 16:48Maybe you're seeing certain things that you've been hoping
- 16:56for, but in this middle screen, they're actually happening.
- 17:01And as you observe, notice what you feel.
- 17:08And if it feels like that's the kind of relationship you would
- 17:12want, then the middle screen is doing what the middle screen is
- 17:18meant to do. But if you're still not
- 17:22satisfied with what's happening in that middle screen, change it
- 17:27so you absolutely are. Because this this middle screen
- 17:34now becomes a criteria. And if this criteria can be met,
- 17:41then it makes sense to stay in this relationship.
- 17:48But you can inverse that too, and make a commitment to
- 17:54yourself that if this, the criteria can't be met, then you
- 18:01don't want it. Which brings us on to that
- 18:07screen on the right. And I want you to see the
- 18:12beginning of this movie, see yourself bringing the
- 18:18relationship to an end. Maybe that's in a conversation.
- 18:24Maybe bags are already packed, maybe it's through a long
- 18:31handwritten letter, and maybe that conversation is in the
- 18:37place where you live, or perhaps while travelling.
- 18:43But I want you to see that you instigate the end.
- 18:49Perhaps you're doing what someone else is afraid to do,
- 18:54what someone else has been leading you towards all this
- 18:59time. This is the version of you that
- 19:06accepts the reality for what it is and acts accordingly.
- 19:11No need to figure out intentions, motivations.
- 19:17No need to hold on to a dream or a hope that things will change.
- 19:23This screen starts with you making a decision.
- 19:28That if it can't be. What you need it to be, then you
- 19:31don't want it, and then see what happens after.
- 19:38You might consider it a new chapter, a new phase.
- 19:43But I want you to see the facial expressions of you with a new
- 19:48level of enthusiasm, excitement. You're not daunted or sad by
- 19:54this future, you're invigorated by it.
- 20:00Imagine the kind of house you'd be living in, maybe a a white
- 20:09cottage, or maybe it has that kind of Scandi features.
- 20:17Imagine the interior and the exterior having it exactly as
- 20:23you'd want it to be. Yours and I want you to imagine
- 20:30the kind of furniture, the kind of location in the world.
- 20:38And I want you to imagine life beyond just that.
- 20:40Home, new friendships, hobbies, a social life, interactions, the
- 20:50kind of travel you would do. See it all and as you think
- 20:58about that future, don't just see it for the next few weeks or
- 21:04months. See it for five to 10 years and
- 21:11then imagine being in that large cinema, in that comfy chair and
- 21:16imagine having the clarity to see all movies side by side.
- 21:24Screen one is the status quo and if you're not changing, you're
- 21:31choosing. You get what you tolerate, not
- 21:36what you deserve. And screen one just shows you
- 21:42tolerating but not changing. And screen 2, This is what
- 21:51mending the relationship would be like.
- 21:56And maybe there's a part of you that really wants this to be
- 22:00true. But I want you to connect with
- 22:05an idea that if you can't mend it, if your needs can't be met,
- 22:14then no anger, no resentment, no blame, no shame, no frustration,
- 22:21just pragmatic reality check it is what it is and see yourself
- 22:29acting accordingly. And that would be screen three,
- 22:35living life on your terms, thinking of your needs.
- 22:42And I want you to get a sense of clarity that perhaps there is
- 22:47only one of these screens that you're not willing to accept,
- 22:54but by seeing it for what it is, that now becomes a line in the
- 22:59sand. If it remains that way, you
- 23:03don't want it. And maybe screen too is what
- 23:08would need to happen, but that's also a line in the sand.
- 23:15But if it can't get to that level, you don't want it.
- 23:21It doesn't matter how delicious your favorite food is, If
- 23:28someone does something to that food to make you not want it
- 23:32anymore, even if you're hungry, you won't eat it.
- 23:40Now I want you to get a sand. Then there is no need to run
- 23:44away from anything. You are now running toward
- 23:50either a relationship that meets your needs or a life no longer
- 23:55dependent on that relationship. But either way, see yourself
- 24:03happier because you're no longer willing to tolerate a life where
- 24:12your needs aren't met. There is no need to accept
- 24:16emotional bread crumbs. You have the courage to live
- 24:22life on your terms. As you leave that cinema.
- 24:29You leave with a sense of absolute clarity, knowing what
- 24:34it would take to leave to stay and what life would be like
- 24:39beyond. No regret, no resentment,
- 24:46because when you try, even if it doesn't get to what you want it
- 24:51to be, you know you did everything you could, and that's
- 24:58enough to move forward without needing to run away.
- 25:06It's time to return to the present with that clarity and
- 25:10with the courage to have whatever conversations and
- 25:13interactions unnecessary to allow you to make decisions
- 25:21based on reality, not based on hope or wishful thinking.
- 25:28So as you start to float back to the here and the now, take a
- 25:31deep breath in through your nose and out through your nose.
- 25:36Just wiggle your fingers and wiggle your toes.
- 25:39Connect and calibrate into the here and the now as I now count
- 25:45from 1:00 to 10:00 to awaken you.
- 25:49Starting to count 123 waking up 456 more alert 7-8.
- 25:58Open your eyes. Open your eyes 910.
