- Lucas: Hola Luna, ¿qué tal? I'm ready for another episode of Learn Spanish with Fexingo. How about you? Luna: ¡Hola Lucas! I'm excited. What are we learning today? I hope it's something useful. Lucas: It is! Today we're going to a bar in Spain. Not a fancy restaurant, just a casual bar where you can grab a drink. Luna: Oh, I like that. I've always wanted to order a drink in Spanish without sounding like a tourist. Lucas: Exactly. So let's start simple. The most common thing you'll say is 'una cerveza, por favor.' That means 'a beer, please.' Luna: Una cerveza, por favor. Una cerveza, por favor. Okay, I think I've got that. Lucas: Perfect. Now, if you want a red wine, you say 'un vino tinto.' Un vino tinto, por favor. Luna: Un vino tinto. That sounds elegant. Un vino tinto. Lucas: It does! Now, the bartender will probably ask you '¿qué va a tomar?' which means 'what are you going to have?'. Luna: ¿Qué va a tomar? That's a mouthful. Let me try: ¿Qué va a tomar? Lucas: Almost, but try to make the 'va' sound a bit softer. Like 'va' not 'bah'. ¿Qué va a tomar? Luna: ¿Qué va a tomar? ¿Qué va a tomar? Yeah, that's better. Lucas: Good. Now, if you want to ask for the check, you say 'la cuenta, por favor.' La cuenta, por favor. Luna: La cuenta, por favor. That's useful. So after my drink, I can say 'la cuenta, por favor'. Lucas: Exactly. And when you pay, the bartender might say 'aquí tiene' which means 'here you go' or 'here it is'. Luna: Aquí tiene. That's a nice phrase. So if I hand over money, they say 'aquí tiene'. Lucas: Right. Let's practice a little scene. I'll be the bartender. You come in and I say '¡Hola! ¿Qué va a tomar?'. Luna: Okay. Um, 'una cerveza, por favor.' Lucas: Perfect. Then I bring you the beer and say 'aquí tiene.' Then you drink it and later say... Luna: 'La cuenta, por favor.' Yes! That felt real. Lucas: You're a natural. Now let's review all the phrases we learned today. First: una cerveza, por favor. Luna: Una cerveza, por favor. Lucas: Un vino tinto, por favor. Luna: Un vino tinto, por favor. Lucas: ¿Qué va a tomar? Luna: ¿Qué va a tomar? Lucas: La cuenta, por favor. Luna: La cuenta, por favor. Lucas: Aquí tiene. Luna: Aquí tiene.
