- 1:08Speaker 1: my good buddy, Eric Leonard better known as Jackson Buddy.
- 1:11Speaker 1: How you doing, my friend?
- 1:14Speaker 2: I'm good man.
- 1:15Speaker 3: Country's doing well on the right track.
- 1:17Speaker 2: Everything's everything's smooth.
- 1:20Speaker 1: I should be crying, yeah, exactly. Yeah, things are great, folks,
- 1:24Speaker 1: aren't they around here?
- 1:26Speaker 2: Everything's just rolling.
- 1:27Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Now I'm good.
- 1:29Speaker 3: Uh, Philly sports right now pretty good?
- 1:33Speaker 1: Not bad, I mean not bad at all.
- 1:35Speaker 3: Right in this moment, Eagles are two and oh Phillies
- 1:38Speaker 3: clinched the East. We're heading into the next season, which
- 1:43Speaker 3: is gonna be a little harry, which we're going to talk.
- 1:44Speaker 1: About a little bit.
- 1:45Speaker 3: But uh, not bad right now as a Philly sports
- 1:48Speaker 3: fan is the country.
- 1:49Speaker 2: I'm gonna just move on. But right now, yeah good.
- 1:53Speaker 1: I had four hours of Northampton County Council committee meetings tonight.
- 1:57Speaker 1: I don't think I could take talking politics. I don't
- 2:02Speaker 1: think I could do it.
- 2:03Speaker 3: So you don't like my idea of just doing a one,
- 2:06Speaker 3: one off weekly like political show. Ooooh, I would get
- 2:13Speaker 3: your ass canceled so fast?
- 2:15Speaker 1: How bad? Oh my god, I'm not winning anything ever again.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, that would be fun, though, I mean, honestly,
- 2:24Speaker 1: I've also thought, like you know, I do. I do
- 2:26Speaker 1: another just for folks out there, if you don't know,
- 2:28Speaker 1: I actually do another podcast with a local friend of mine.
- 2:32Speaker 1: We talk about community based issues, like actual issues that
- 2:35Speaker 1: matter to people in the community, whether it's housing, talking
- 2:38Speaker 1: about where I live. There's a lot of warehouses and
- 2:41Speaker 1: it's an issue, so we've talked about that. We talk
- 2:43Speaker 1: about mental health funding, talking about various nonprofits in our
- 2:46Speaker 1: community that do good things. Anyway, I've always wondered, like,
- 2:50Speaker 1: what like doing a political podcast, Like how that would
- 2:53Speaker 1: go over? Like I get more hate than I do now.
- 2:56Speaker 1: Probably I wouldn't be able beyond because my views.
- 3:02Speaker 3: Yeah, but yeah, it'd probably be you and Lenn and
- 3:07Speaker 3: one of your like more tempered friends.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:10Speaker 2: No, it's a good I listened to the mental health one.
- 3:12Speaker 2: It's really good.
- 3:13Speaker 1: Thanks.
- 3:13Speaker 2: Like, if people out there want to get a listen,
- 3:15Speaker 2: that's good.
- 3:16Speaker 1: It's called just for Folks that I can't believe I'm
- 3:18Speaker 1: doing this. I had no idea what we'd be talking
- 3:20Speaker 1: about this anyway. Uh. The media platform is called Lehigh
- 3:23Speaker 1: Valley with Love my good buddy George. Uh, that's his company,
- 3:28Speaker 1: and it's the off the Record podcast. So if you
- 3:30Speaker 1: go through and you subscribe, you can listen to some
- 3:33Speaker 1: of those podcasts. So anyway, we got a bunch of
- 3:35Speaker 1: Philly sports to get into, Eric, Like you said, I
- 3:37Speaker 1: swear the world of Philly sports is actually really interesting
- 3:40Speaker 1: right now. And I'm talking like with all five teams.
- 3:42Speaker 1: I know, we don't get into the Philadelphia Union, but
- 3:44Speaker 1: they've had such a phenomenal season. They are doing so well.
- 3:48Speaker 1: It was it was never thought that the Philadelphia Union's
- 3:51Speaker 1: twenty twenty five season would get to where they are
- 3:54Speaker 1: right now at this point, basically a top of the
- 3:57Speaker 1: Eastern Conference. We've got the Philadelphia Flyers. We talked about
- 4:01Speaker 1: that the off season on the Table Talk show this
- 4:04Speaker 1: past week, and like Danny Brier is still making moves
- 4:09Speaker 1: making sure that the goalie situation is secure in terms
- 4:13Speaker 1: of what our expectations are gonna be for it after
- 4:16Speaker 1: trading Ivan Fidotav this past week. Then we've got the Sixers,
- 4:20Speaker 1: which we're gonna be getting into on this show for sure.
- 4:23Speaker 1: Not too too much hope there, however, there's still interest.
- 4:26Speaker 1: There's still interest. And then of course we've got the
- 4:27Speaker 1: Phillies going to the postseason. We're gonna be diving into
- 4:31Speaker 1: that big time on this show, and as well as
- 4:33Speaker 1: the Philadelphia Eagles as they are a top of the NL.
- 4:37Speaker 1: So I'm serious. It's like, I couldn't imagine living in
- 4:40Speaker 1: a place like Cincinnati or or another city where there's
- 4:45Speaker 1: not too much going well in terms of their sports teams,
- 4:48Speaker 1: you know, Yeah.
- 4:50Speaker 3: I mean the Reds aren't going anywhere and Burrows out
- 4:52Speaker 3: for that would be awful. It would be terrible if
- 4:54Speaker 3: one of your team sucks and the rest are good.
- 4:56Speaker 3: Like you're in good shape. Yeah, Can I ask you
- 4:59Speaker 3: a quick Flyers question? I'm not totally I told you
- 5:02Speaker 3: we're not actually gonna watch them Flyers when they start. Yeah,
- 5:04Speaker 3: because I only have one kid left in the house,
- 5:06Speaker 3: so it's a lot easier at more time for so
- 5:10Speaker 3: they traded that goalie away right, and I saw on
- 5:14Speaker 3: an Instagram and I flipped over and they had a
- 5:17Speaker 3: brier with like red eyes like they do like.
- 5:20Speaker 2: When Howie makes a good move.
- 5:21Speaker 3: Yes, was that a good move? I guess it was.
- 5:25Speaker 1: It was because there's certain goalies that I mean, there
- 5:27Speaker 1: are various goalies quote in the pipeline, and what are
- 5:31Speaker 1: we going to do with the goalie talent that was
- 5:32Speaker 1: there last year? I can't believe that. I cannot believe
- 5:38Speaker 1: Columbus actually took him because he had an eight to
- 5:40Speaker 1: eighty save percentage last year. It was just he was
- 5:43Speaker 1: not good, not good at all, but he was. He
- 5:45Speaker 1: was kind of one of those guys who was difficult
- 5:47Speaker 1: with the with the front office, difficult with the locker room,
- 5:50Speaker 1: difficult with the coaching. Getting him out of here, getting
- 5:53Speaker 1: him in a new scenery, it's probably gonna be best
- 5:56Speaker 1: for him, definitely going to be best for the Flyers.
- 5:59Speaker 1: But you know, they were to They were able to
- 6:02Speaker 1: unload somebody to give more clarity to a position that
- 6:05Speaker 1: needed more clarity.
- 6:06Speaker 3: Okay, as a non hardcore Flyers fan, I saw that
- 6:09Speaker 3: Instagram post and it was like reading the first ten
- 6:12Speaker 3: pages of a book in the last ten pages, like
- 6:14Speaker 3: there's this couple and they live happily ever after. Yes,
- 6:18Speaker 3: something happened in the middle for four hundred pages, right,
- 6:20Speaker 3: I just didn't read it. I knew it was a
- 6:22Speaker 3: good trade. I just didn't know why. Yeah, So that's
- 6:24Speaker 3: a great way to describe it. Yeah, yeah, so it
- 6:27Speaker 3: was yeah.
- 6:27Speaker 1: It was yeah. All right, Well, let's get into this show, folks.
- 6:32Speaker 1: We're gonna be starting off talking about some Eagles and
- 6:34Speaker 1: some NFC East talk. Like I mentioned, we got some
- 6:37Speaker 1: NBA talk, not just with the Sixers, but we're going
- 6:39Speaker 1: to dive deeper into the LA Clippers and Kawhi Leonard
- 6:43Speaker 1: contract situation that is astounding at this point. Len and
- 6:48Speaker 1: I talked about it a bit last week. We're going
- 6:50Speaker 1: to dive into it in a bit more details. Again,
- 6:52Speaker 1: some Sixers talk. Ranked nineteenth in ESPN's new Future Power rankings,
- 6:57Speaker 1: and then we got to dive into a ton of
- 6:59Speaker 1: Phillies talk. So let's get started with some Eagles talk,
- 7:03Speaker 1: some NFC East talk. First, Eric, with regard to the
- 7:06Speaker 1: NFC East and this division, I'm not necessarily surprised by it,
- 7:11Speaker 1: but the fact that the Eagles are at top of
- 7:13Speaker 1: the division at two and zero. We're all happy about that.
- 7:16Speaker 1: Commanders are one and one, Cowboys one and one, and
- 7:19Speaker 1: the lowly New York Giants are o and two. There's
- 7:23Speaker 1: six total teams in the NFC East. I'm sorry the
- 7:26Speaker 1: NFC that are two and oh. Eagles are in a
- 7:29Speaker 1: really good position, even though they haven't played their best football.
- 7:33Speaker 1: But in terms of this division here, I like what
- 7:35Speaker 1: I'm seeing. I do think the Cowboys could potentially be
- 7:38Speaker 1: somewhat quote threatening at some point down the road. I
- 7:41Speaker 1: don't necessarily know how to gauge that, because they have
- 7:46Speaker 1: shown that they are a pretty decent football team. They've
- 7:48Speaker 1: put up sixty points already on the season, while the
- 7:51Speaker 1: Eagles have put up forty four. I think the Dallas
- 7:54Speaker 1: Cowboys could potentially be nipping at the Eagles toes as
- 7:59Speaker 1: we're going through this season. But look, I think things
- 8:02Speaker 1: with this this division are playing out how we kind
- 8:06Speaker 1: of thought they were or would be.
- 8:08Speaker 3: Yeah, and it's even better. It's even better than that.
- 8:11Speaker 3: I mean, look at the rest of the teams. I mean,
- 8:14Speaker 3: you just talk about the Cowboys. I don't think that
- 8:16Speaker 3: defense holds up. I mean they gave up for forty
- 8:19Speaker 3: points or whatever. Thirty seven points in the Giants. Yeah,
- 8:22Speaker 3: and four hundred and some yards to Russell Wilson corpse.
- 8:28Speaker 3: So I did that team's a little scary offensively. I
- 8:31Speaker 3: think defensively they're not going to be able to handle them.
- 8:33Speaker 1: By the way.
- 8:34Speaker 3: They're at home, and they had to go to overtime
- 8:36Speaker 3: to beat the Giants.
- 8:38Speaker 1: Yes, right down to the last second overtime.
- 8:40Speaker 3: Who suck.
- 8:42Speaker 2: Let's just face it.
- 8:43Speaker 3: Yes, they went to Washington who lost Tuesday night and
- 8:47Speaker 3: looked terrible or lost, you know, they lost their second game, sorry,
- 8:51Speaker 3: looked terrible and they almost beat the Cowboys at home.
- 8:54Speaker 3: That tells me the Cowboys aren't as good. That tells
- 8:56Speaker 3: me the Giants stink. I mean, they just flat out stink.
- 9:00Speaker 3: And Jane Daniels has already hurt. Yeah, and I mean
- 9:03Speaker 3: how often we talk about it before the season. Like
- 9:06Speaker 3: I said, hardcore, the Coms are going to have a
- 9:09Speaker 3: down year. There's no way that guy's gonna stay healthy again.
- 9:12Speaker 3: He had a great run last year. Doesn't seem possible.
- 9:15Speaker 3: He's looked shaky just on top of being yea, he
- 9:18Speaker 3: didn't even look he doesn't look good the first two
- 9:20Speaker 3: weeks at all. They barely beat the Giants, and as
- 9:23Speaker 3: I said, the Giants are bad to me, like all
- 9:27Speaker 3: the Eagles have to do is get keep their head
- 9:28Speaker 3: down and just keep beating teams. They had the Giants
- 9:31Speaker 3: coming up in like what weeks six and eight almost
- 9:34Speaker 3: back to back. Yes, Like what a nice break after
- 9:37Speaker 3: we started with for him, the Cowboys, the Chiefs. We
- 9:42Speaker 3: got the Ramsis I think they have an easier game
- 9:45Speaker 3: Week four they played the Saints possibly, I can't remember now,
- 9:49Speaker 3: I'm forgetting off the top of my head. Yeah, they
- 9:51Speaker 3: do have an easier game coming up.
- 9:53Speaker 1: But like the Eagles have the fourth hardest schedule in
- 9:55Speaker 1: the entire NFL. I think it's the fourth hardest.
- 9:58Speaker 3: But the good thing is, like you're gonna to play
- 10:00Speaker 3: that comes twice, possibly once without Jayden Daniels. You're gonna
- 10:04Speaker 3: play the Giants twice. There's three games right there. You
- 10:06Speaker 3: should absolutely win. Yeah, And I don't think the Rams
- 10:09Speaker 3: are going to come into town and beat the Eagles,
- 10:12Speaker 3: like I think they're gonna comematus, But I think they're
- 10:14Speaker 3: gonna win that game too.
- 10:15Speaker 2: Again, everything points to the offense of the Eagles that
- 10:18Speaker 2: they want to just.
- 10:18Speaker 3: Take the NFC. So I think it's just there for
- 10:20Speaker 3: the taking. Yeah, pretty easily.
- 10:22Speaker 2: In this division. Well, let's hitting all the remarks have
- 10:25Speaker 2: just made.
- 10:25Speaker 1: Yeah, let's get it. Let's get into the offense. Yeah,
- 10:27Speaker 1: let's get into the passing game in particular here, because look,
- 10:30Speaker 1: I the bottom line for me coming out of this
- 10:34Speaker 1: game against the Kansas City Chiefs, where yes, Jalen Hurts
- 10:37Speaker 1: only had one hundred and one yards of passing, the
- 10:40Speaker 1: Eagles passing game is obviously not hitting on all cylinders
- 10:43Speaker 1: at this moment. It's an extremely small sample size with
- 10:47Speaker 1: a unit, and I think it's really important to note
- 10:50Speaker 1: and for us to keep in mind. This unit did
- 10:52Speaker 1: not work in preseason action under a new coordinator and
- 10:56Speaker 1: a new play caller in Kevin Patulo. So I think
- 10:59Speaker 1: the quarter back play with Jalen Hurts, to be honest
- 11:02Speaker 1: with you, has been pretty sharp. And I say that
- 11:07Speaker 1: not because of the yards that he's giving up, but
- 11:09Speaker 1: the fact that yes, he's only passed for two hundred
- 11:13Speaker 1: and fifty three total yards, hasn't thrown a touchdown, which
- 11:16Speaker 1: is bizarre as well, but he has also not turned
- 11:21Speaker 1: over the ball, and at the end of the day,
- 11:23Speaker 1: that really does matter. So that's why I think, you know,
- 11:27Speaker 1: getting him the opportunities, giving him the opportunities Jalen hurts
- 11:35Speaker 1: to get the ball downfield. Kevin Petulo is talking about
- 11:38Speaker 1: this week during this press conference that they really haven't
- 11:41Speaker 1: had those explosive play opportunities, you know, in terms of
- 11:44Speaker 1: the air yards sixteen plus yards is what the Eagles
- 11:48Speaker 1: define as explosive plays. Haven't really had those opportunities for
- 11:51Speaker 1: whatever reason. They've only had two fifty one yarder to
- 11:55Speaker 1: John Dotson and the opener and the twenty eight yarder
- 11:57Speaker 1: to DeVante Smith against the Chiefs. So I don't know
- 12:01Speaker 1: if we should be panicking about the passing game. I
- 12:05Speaker 1: don't think so. From everything that I've read, everything that
- 12:08Speaker 1: I've seen, and we just know what the talent is
- 12:10Speaker 1: on this team. I think things are gonna end up
- 12:13Speaker 1: coming together a lot more here against the Rams in
- 12:16Speaker 1: Week three. So I don't know what are you think
- 12:18Speaker 1: in here, buddy?
- 12:20Speaker 3: Well, okay, so if you look at the season so far,
- 12:24Speaker 3: let's just go game by game here. So they played
- 12:25Speaker 3: the Cowboys week one. Let's preface everything with every team,
- 12:30Speaker 3: it's their super Bowl this year. They're coming after the champs, right,
- 12:33Speaker 3: so they're going to bring their a game every single game,
- 12:36Speaker 3: especially this upcoming week with the Rams. So think about it.
- 12:41Speaker 3: The Cowboys defense stepped up in in week one. They
- 12:43Speaker 3: looked pretty damn good. Yeah, you know, the Chiefs defense
- 12:47Speaker 3: was good. You were in Case with a raucous crowd,
- 12:50Speaker 3: second game of the year, and you got the Rams
- 12:54Speaker 3: next week or come in like looking to kill us.
- 12:56Speaker 3: Then you go to the Bucks. You got the Broncos
- 12:58Speaker 3: at home, and then a Giants game. But then if
- 13:00Speaker 3: you're going to Minnesota, I'm just trying to point out
- 13:02Speaker 3: the defenses they're playing. You said, the fourth best record
- 13:05Speaker 3: in football, four hardest not yeah, but it's just it's
- 13:09Speaker 3: the hardest. Yeah, But it's like they're also playing really
- 13:11Speaker 3: difficult defenses so far they are. And this is Poop
- 13:14Speaker 3: poo Hole's first year as a coordinator. So like you almost,
- 13:18Speaker 3: like like I said on the post game show, like
- 13:20Speaker 3: I'm good right now, as long as like by week
- 13:23Speaker 3: four or five we start to see it getting aired
- 13:26Speaker 3: out a little bit.
- 13:26Speaker 1: Yeah, and A J.
- 13:27Speaker 3: Brown not running five yard slants seven times a half,
- 13:33Speaker 3: going deep to DeVante every now and again, or even
- 13:35Speaker 3: Brown like just like just one long one to open
- 13:39Speaker 3: up the middle of the field for for uh Dallascott
- 13:42Speaker 3: tight end, Yeah, Dallas gott are like man, there's so
- 13:46Speaker 3: much talent on me.
- 13:47Speaker 2: It's it's gonna break open.
- 13:48Speaker 3: I think right now it's tough to watch, but like
- 13:51Speaker 3: I think the offense is playing not.
- 13:54Speaker 2: To lose right now.
- 13:55Speaker 3: Yeah, the defense good way is strong, yeah and sturdy.
- 13:59Speaker 2: It's almost okay.
- 14:00Speaker 3: So back in the day when Andy Reid and Jim
- 14:02Speaker 3: Johnson was a defensive coordinator, the offense was electric and
- 14:06Speaker 3: the defense was ben but don't break right, keep it
- 14:09Speaker 3: in between the twenties. Right now, it's like flip. The
- 14:11Speaker 3: defense is attacking, making plays. The offense is like Ben,
- 14:14Speaker 3: don't break, playing not to lose. I think next week,
- 14:19Speaker 3: say you get a lead, you're up seven, nothing that
- 14:21Speaker 3: you got to make. You got to try some chances,
- 14:23Speaker 3: like go deep a couple of times, just to open
- 14:25Speaker 3: it up and see what happens. Because you're you're setting
- 14:29Speaker 3: yourself up for the rest of the season. And I
- 14:32Speaker 3: think this next game at home with a Rams team
- 14:34Speaker 3: who thinks they're going to come in and beat you,
- 14:36Speaker 3: the crowd is going to be Believe me, Eagles crowds
- 14:38Speaker 3: are smart. They know the Rams think they should have won.
- 14:41Speaker 3: The crowd is going to be extra nuts this Sunday,
- 14:46Speaker 3: and they're going to be extra drunk. They're going to
- 14:48Speaker 3: get there really early. It's one o'clock afternoons. Wis be
- 14:50Speaker 3: nice weather? That just spells trouble. I've been I've been
- 14:54Speaker 3: to those games. I've been that person. I just think
- 14:58Speaker 3: like this next Like I said, they're they're playing, they're
- 15:01Speaker 3: playing like prevent offense right like they're bringing up with
- 15:04Speaker 3: mint left and passing around the three point line. Take
- 15:08Speaker 3: some chances this week and try to try to set
- 15:10Speaker 3: momentum going forward for the rest of the season offensively.
- 15:13Speaker 1: It's that's great advice. You should be a coach. Be
- 15:17Speaker 1: a coach.
- 15:19Speaker 3: I The only downside is like you just sleep in
- 15:22Speaker 3: your office like a lunatic, sleeping every time I watch
- 15:25Speaker 3: the NFL film. Yeah, can I coach in my boxers?
- 15:29Speaker 2: Yes, that's my man.
- 15:32Speaker 1: It's fine right now in all seriousness, like that's I
- 15:37Speaker 1: think that's how you just have to open up the
- 15:38Speaker 1: passing game. I mean, we're fans of this and look
- 15:41Speaker 1: the Kevin Patulo and and Nick Sirianni. Whether again, whether
- 15:48Speaker 1: it's these guys not having had the work in the preseason,
- 15:52Speaker 1: getting the rust off, the fact that they're two and zero.
- 15:54Speaker 1: They can go on the road to that that crowd
- 15:57Speaker 1: down in Kansas City that you were just talking about, Eric,
- 16:00Speaker 1: and come away with a win the end of the day.
- 16:02Speaker 1: That's what we want, are the wins. Of course, we
- 16:05Speaker 1: don't want things to fall off a cliff like they
- 16:07Speaker 1: did two years ago, as the team was at an
- 16:09Speaker 1: absolute disaster towards the end of the season. I don't think,
- 16:11Speaker 1: by any stretch of the imagination, that's going to happen.
- 16:14Speaker 1: I think this team has the ability to grow. I
- 16:16Speaker 1: think the coaching staff is there, especially with Sirianni, to
- 16:19Speaker 1: help this team get to that next level that we
- 16:22Speaker 1: want in terms of the offense. So yeah, I think
- 16:26Speaker 1: it's gonna be a great game against the Rams. We're
- 16:29Speaker 1: gonna have our Eagles postgame show, and we'd like to
- 16:32Speaker 1: hear what you think. Philadelphia Sports Table at gmail dot com.
- 16:35Speaker 1: Let us know what you're thinking about this Eagles team,
- 16:37Speaker 1: the offense, how things are going. We'd love to read
- 16:39Speaker 1: your email here on the show and respond to it.
- 16:41Speaker 1: So so we're moving along here, got to get into
- 16:44Speaker 1: some NBA talk because one of the biggest storylines in
- 16:48Speaker 1: the NBA and in the sports world in general is
- 16:52Speaker 1: about the mess that's going on between the Los Angeles
- 16:55Speaker 1: Clippers and Kawhi Leonards. So much this scanned is just
- 17:00Speaker 1: now being rooted in some minute details. You're talking about spreadsheets, documents, lawsuits,
- 17:06Speaker 1: line items. You know, your eyes just start to glaze
- 17:09Speaker 1: over when you dive deep into what this actual story
- 17:13Speaker 1: and scandal really is. So real quick for folks, in
- 17:17Speaker 1: case you haven't heard, real quick synopsis. Kawhi Leonard and
- 17:21Speaker 1: the Los Angeles Clippers under intense scrutiny. After the Excuse Me,
- 17:27Speaker 1: The Pablo Tory Finds Out podcast and Pablo Tory broke
- 17:32Speaker 1: the news that Kawhi Leonard had a no show twenty
- 17:34Speaker 1: eight million dollar marketing job with a company called Aspiration,
- 17:38Speaker 1: who happened to be a Clipper sponsor before completely going under.
- 17:44Speaker 1: Tory suggests that the Clippers brazenly circumvented salary cap rules
- 17:49Speaker 1: to pay Kawhi more than what the league rules would
- 17:52Speaker 1: actually allow. So this week, excuse me, Wow, John Hollinger,
- 17:58Speaker 1: he published an article talking about what could actually be
- 18:02Speaker 1: the punishments for this, you know, avoiding Kawhi Leonard's contract
- 18:06Speaker 1: banning him possibly from re signing with the team. I mean,
- 18:11Speaker 1: it's a this is gonna be a much more chaotic situation,
- 18:14Speaker 1: I think, because this is uncharted territory, this scout, this
- 18:19Speaker 1: size and scope with a scandal like this, We've known this,
- 18:22Speaker 1: that this has happened before in the past. Eric lenn
- 18:24Speaker 1: and I talked about it last week. But this massive
- 18:28Speaker 1: penalty that's probably going to be coming down the pike
- 18:30Speaker 1: could have unforeseen effects on both Los Angeles Clippers and
- 18:34Speaker 1: the entire league. And that what the hell happens with
- 18:36Speaker 1: Kawhi Leonard If his contract is void, He's still an
- 18:41Speaker 1: elite NBA player when he's healthy. Losing him would be
- 18:44Speaker 1: a big deal for them. It's just it's crazy. It
- 18:47Speaker 1: really is crazy. What have you been thinking about this? Well, okay,
- 18:51Speaker 1: so a lot of thoughts. Okay, this one is way
- 18:55Speaker 1: more egregious.
- 18:57Speaker 3: The best one to compare it to is that Joe
- 18:58Speaker 3: Smith issue from like two thousand and five, But that
- 19:03Speaker 3: one was on such a smaller scale and didn't involve
- 19:07Speaker 3: outside companies that the owner had percentage stakes in and
- 19:13Speaker 3: own partially owned, and and even like even what do
- 19:18Speaker 3: you call it? Put ten million more dollars into that
- 19:21Speaker 3: company just recently looks really bad for him, Bomber. It
- 19:26Speaker 3: does make you think, like, is he arrogant? Is he
- 19:30Speaker 3: so arrogant that he thinks he's just going to get
- 19:31Speaker 3: away with it? Or did he really not have any
- 19:34Speaker 3: idea of someone like doing stuff with his money, because
- 19:37Speaker 3: it's so it's so obvious once you read the pabulatory story.
- 19:43Speaker 3: By the way, if you're a sports guy and you're
- 19:45Speaker 3: doing something wrong and he comes he texts, you don't answer, Yeah,
- 19:49Speaker 3: you are fucked. This guy is blowing up stories left
- 19:52Speaker 3: and right.
- 19:52Speaker 2: Get like big ones man. He's really good at what
- 19:54Speaker 2: he does out there doing it.
- 19:56Speaker 1: Yeah, really quick. Mark Cuban was like defending the Clippers
- 20:00Speaker 1: owner with this. I was actually kind of surprised with
- 20:04Speaker 1: it because Mark Cuban is usually not all the time,
- 20:07Speaker 1: but usually pretty level headed. Maybe when it comes to
- 20:12Speaker 1: various NBA issues, I don't I don't know. Maybe I
- 20:14Speaker 1: don't know what you've We've never had a conversation about
- 20:16Speaker 1: Mark Cuban. Look, the guy's a billionaire. He's probably not
- 20:19Speaker 1: the most straight up honest person in the world. But still,
- 20:22Speaker 1: I mean, he comes across as somebody who is uh,
- 20:26Speaker 1: maybe maybe not.
- 20:29Speaker 3: Let's come on, let's think of corporate America. Yes, billionaires
- 20:32Speaker 3: protect other billionaire that is a matter. Yes, I used
- 20:35Speaker 3: to be an NBA owner, but I'm still a billionaire.
- 20:37Speaker 1: That is true.
- 20:38Speaker 3: Steve Balmer, Steve Balmer is a peer, but he'll never
- 20:40Speaker 3: throw him under the bus. Plus, Mark Cuban did some
- 20:42Speaker 3: shady shit in Dallas, by the way, absolutely, yes, whole organization,
- 20:46Speaker 3: so I'm sure. But if you in his defense though,
- 20:50Speaker 3: he actually went on Pablo Tory's podcast and actually it
- 20:53Speaker 3: was a really good conversation, level headed.
- 20:56Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 20:56Speaker 3: I didn't agree with Cuban's points at all, but I
- 20:58Speaker 3: was like, I see you where he's coming from. But
- 21:01Speaker 3: at the same time, you're just a billionaire protecting another one.
- 21:03Speaker 1: But whatever.
- 21:05Speaker 3: But the Joe Smith thing, so just real quick recap
- 21:08Speaker 3: on that one, because I want to compare it to
- 21:10Speaker 3: what this one is, because this one is just to
- 21:12Speaker 3: the moon three and a half million dollars fine to
- 21:15Speaker 3: the Timberwolves. And what they did with Joe Smith is
- 21:18Speaker 3: they signed three one year contracts. So it so it
- 21:23Speaker 3: looked it was like hit different parts of the cap, right.
- 21:27Speaker 3: I don't know how they didn't think someone would notice this.
- 21:29Speaker 3: They used the new the newer ish at the time
- 21:32Speaker 3: Bird's rights rule to do it. Completely broke the rules
- 21:36Speaker 3: and it was a three and a half million dollars fine.
- 21:37Speaker 3: They lost five first round picks, which is god, that's right,
- 21:41Speaker 3: that was five. Yes, that's that's like the death penalty
- 21:45Speaker 3: in college, you know what I mean.
- 21:46Speaker 2: That's like, that's like gu SMU stuff.
- 21:49Speaker 3: Now, David Seern was the commissioner, right, he avoided all
- 21:51Speaker 3: of Smith's contracts, and then the team, the Timberlves were
- 21:55Speaker 3: banned from signing Smith after that, and then Glenn Taylor,
- 21:58Speaker 3: the owner was barred from all team operators and Kevin
- 22:00Speaker 3: McHale took an unpaid lead of absence right like they
- 22:03Speaker 3: he wiped it out. And that was David Stern. What
- 22:06Speaker 3: Kawhi did was so much worse. It was more mafia
- 22:10Speaker 3: like he got a no show job twenty eight million
- 22:13Speaker 3: dollars part of this company planting trees for God's sakes.
- 22:17Speaker 1: Like, so.
- 22:20Speaker 3: You could plant you could reforce the entire North all
- 22:23Speaker 3: of the North America. It still won't be worth twenty
- 22:26Speaker 3: eight million to one person. Right, He got that on top,
- 22:30Speaker 3: He got that on top of his current contract Bomber is.
- 22:34Speaker 3: I don't know what Bombers quite said yet, I'm sure
- 22:36Speaker 3: as attorneys are like, don't say a fucking word. Yeah,
- 22:39Speaker 3: while the NBA is investigating this. It really bothers me
- 22:42Speaker 3: that Adam Silver came out at the NBA Owners meeting
- 22:45Speaker 3: recently and said he didn't even hear about it. Yeah
- 22:47Speaker 3: the first time you heard about it? Right, what the
- 22:49Speaker 3: fuck are you doing your job? But isn't that your
- 22:51Speaker 3: whole job?
- 22:52Speaker 1: Right?
- 22:53Speaker 3: One of one of the owners you just met with
- 22:55Speaker 3: possibly broke the law on top of NBA rules, Like
- 22:58Speaker 3: fucking new of course he did. I mean he's just
- 23:02Speaker 3: like he's just like goodell the owners. He works for
- 23:05Speaker 3: the owners basically, but what something has to happen though,
- 23:11Speaker 3: There's there's no way they're just going to be like, man,
- 23:15Speaker 3: he made a mistake.
- 23:15Speaker 2: We're going to move on from this.
- 23:17Speaker 3: Yeah, the rest of the NBA teams are going to
- 23:19Speaker 3: be like, well, first of all, every NA team is
- 23:22Speaker 3: going to be.
- 23:22Speaker 2: Like, well, I'll just do this now, right, Like why not?
- 23:25Speaker 2: Like what why would not?
- 23:26Speaker 3: Why would Josh not do that with one of his
- 23:29Speaker 3: multi billion corporate million dollar corporations? But like, I'm going
- 23:32Speaker 3: to give I'm going to give our third round pick
- 23:36Speaker 3: one hundred million next year. Yeah, and he's uh, he's
- 23:39Speaker 3: an assistant manager at this company, like exactly right, like Edgecombe.
- 23:43Speaker 3: And it's like, you have to knit this in above
- 23:46Speaker 3: because these guys can't help themselves. They're the same owners
- 23:49Speaker 3: that signed guys like Joel Embiid to, you know, extensions
- 23:54Speaker 3: that are completely outrageous and wrong. They can't help themselves,
- 23:57Speaker 3: so he has to do something. One thing I will
- 23:59Speaker 3: say about him was when he first came in, David
- 24:02Speaker 3: Stearn would annihilate the Clippers. There's no doubt. Yeah, Like
- 24:05Speaker 3: he didn't give a shit. If it was Steve Balmer,
- 24:07Speaker 3: he would. He would absolutely go after them. Adam Silver
- 24:10Speaker 3: did come in and the first thing he had to
- 24:12Speaker 3: deal with was Donald Sterling, if you remember, who was
- 24:15Speaker 3: a racist piece of shit, like just one of the
- 24:17Speaker 3: worst human beings. He treated his players like garbage. He
- 24:19Speaker 3: called them like slaves and stuff that's just disgusting. And
- 24:23Speaker 3: Adam Silver dealt with that really well. He brought the
- 24:26Speaker 3: hammer down. I think he knew he had to do
- 24:29Speaker 3: it because he was new to the league as the commissioner,
- 24:31Speaker 3: and other owners as well as players were like, we're
- 24:36Speaker 3: hoping you can do something. This is a joke, and
- 24:38Speaker 3: he did it, like he forced the guy out.
- 24:40Speaker 1: He never he.
- 24:41Speaker 3: Cannot even can't even go to NBA games anymore. It's
- 24:43Speaker 3: like he took care of that situation. I think he's
- 24:47Speaker 3: a smart enough guy to not just read this situation,
- 24:50Speaker 3: but what potentially could breed out of the situation throughout
- 24:54Speaker 3: the league and what a fucking mess it could be.
- 24:57Speaker 3: He has to come down hard on the Clippers.
- 24:58Speaker 2: And all that.
- 25:00Speaker 3: In saying all that, I mean, there's no doubt that
- 25:03Speaker 3: that second contract's going to be voided, the one through
- 25:06Speaker 3: the corporation for the new company for Kuhi.
- 25:09Speaker 2: But what happens.
- 25:10Speaker 3: If this is a good question, what happened? What happens
- 25:13Speaker 3: if they just void the contract like his actual Clippers contract,
- 25:18Speaker 3: because that's not technically illegal that one, unlike Joe Smith's
- 25:23Speaker 3: contracts because we're actually signed, you know, on the cap,
- 25:26Speaker 3: but three different ways. It was just that that was
- 25:29Speaker 3: definitely illegal. What if he what if they keep that
- 25:33Speaker 3: or what if they just void all of it? Kauhi
- 25:36Speaker 3: is a free agent, That's what I think. Are the
- 25:38Speaker 3: Clippers maybe happy, Yeah, because Kawhi only plays fifty games
- 25:43Speaker 3: a year. Look, there were some reps of injuries every day.
- 25:46Speaker 1: Yeah, there are some reports that came out, you know
- 25:48Speaker 1: where you've got front office guys shitting on Kawhi saying
- 25:51Speaker 1: basically saying, well, you know, his team isn't the best
- 25:54Speaker 1: to work with and if he's not on the team, okay, whatever.
- 25:57Speaker 1: So they're anticipating it for sure this point, I wouldn't.
- 26:02Speaker 3: Be surprised if they nullified the contract, if they didn't
- 26:06Speaker 3: ullify his contract, the actual contract, Yeah, I wouldn't be
- 26:09Speaker 3: surprised if Silver then hit them with a lot of
- 26:12Speaker 3: cat penalties as well, so they couldn't roll that cap
- 26:15Speaker 3: space into getting another like million dollar player, right, Yeah,
- 26:19Speaker 3: because you're you're you're then rewarding that team because then
- 26:22Speaker 3: it looks like they did this on purpose to get
- 26:24Speaker 3: out of the Kauhai contract.
- 26:26Speaker 1: Right.
- 26:26Speaker 3: I think you stick him with the contract, you still
- 26:30Speaker 3: cat penalize them left and right. You nullify like five
- 26:35Speaker 3: first round picks again, which they don't have any anyway,
- 26:37Speaker 3: They're going to not have first round pick to like
- 26:39Speaker 3: twenty forty. It's gonna because I don't think you have
- 26:42Speaker 3: the next three first round picks. It's going to be like, yeah,
- 26:45Speaker 3: next decade, but he has to do something like there's
- 26:50Speaker 3: no way. This is just the first read of it.
- 26:54Speaker 3: You're like, oh, this is bad, and then you keep going,
- 26:56Speaker 3: you keep going. It's like, this is the worst thing
- 26:58Speaker 3: in the NBA. This is horrible. Yes, this is the
- 27:03Speaker 3: This is like corporate greed at a sports level that's
- 27:06Speaker 3: almost like unfounded.
- 27:07Speaker 1: Yeah, that's why I'm bad. There's talk to like I
- 27:10Speaker 1: said earlier, is talk of spreadsheets and just like different
- 27:13Speaker 1: line items. You just kind of stare at this and
- 27:15Speaker 1: dive down the rabbit hole and you just start to
- 27:17Speaker 1: your eyes just start to glaze over. But real quick,
- 27:20Speaker 1: let me just go back to what you said. You
- 27:22Speaker 1: know about VJ. Edgecomb, like you know, an assistant manager
- 27:26Speaker 1: at like Cole's or something. That would be fantastic. I
- 27:29Speaker 1: would love to see him with a little Cole's name
- 27:31Speaker 1: tag here. VJ. I mean he's just one time a month,
- 27:37Speaker 1: he's he's stuck in Haines underpants on shelves or something.
- 27:42Speaker 3: Or even like like Josh put him in one of
- 27:44Speaker 3: his like uh equity on firms, right, and he's he's
- 27:48Speaker 3: an assistant equity guy. Yes, he has he has a
- 27:51Speaker 3: little tiny desk in a little office somewhere.
- 27:53Speaker 2: He comes the first.
- 27:54Speaker 3: Day and has VJ on his thing, yes, wearing a and.
- 27:58Speaker 2: Then never comes again.
- 27:59Speaker 1: You never seen it.
- 28:02Speaker 3: Like the desk set they gave him his first day
- 28:04Speaker 3: is just sitting there unopened.
- 28:05Speaker 1: Yes, it's not even a MacBook computer. It's like some
- 28:09Speaker 1: some kind of uh what's.
- 28:11Speaker 3: It called on a box?
- 28:12Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a box. It's a cardboard box. Yeah they
- 28:15Speaker 1: drew they drew a screen on it and a keyboard.
- 28:19Speaker 3: Or you go behind his desk and you realize everything's fake, Yes,
- 28:22Speaker 3: fake laptop.
- 28:22Speaker 2: They have a best Buy Like they.
- 28:24Speaker 1: Drew a pancil on the desk. No. Really, So it's
- 28:30Speaker 1: gonna be interesting to follow this story, for sure. It's
- 28:33Speaker 1: gonna be it's gonna be like something has to happen
- 28:35Speaker 1: sooner rather than later because the season's gonna start. Like
- 28:38Speaker 1: something has to happen before the season starts.
- 28:41Speaker 2: It starts October seventy or twenty third.
- 28:45Speaker 1: Yeah, it's right around.
- 28:46Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, it's close because we have our NBA Fantasy
- 28:48Speaker 3: Draft in my house in the team. Yes, yeah, I
- 28:50Speaker 3: think it starts like four or five days later.
- 28:52Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, no, you're right.
- 28:55Speaker 3: You cannot go into the season with QUI just playing
- 28:58Speaker 3: right and it's just hanging in the air. Yeah, like
- 29:00Speaker 3: the rest of the Clippers team's gonna.
- 29:02Speaker 2: Be like, what are we gonna do?
- 29:04Speaker 1: Yeah, We're gonna have cola.
- 29:06Speaker 2: Can we please know this is crazy?
- 29:08Speaker 1: Yes? Great, great segment, great opening segment for us here.
- 29:12Speaker 1: If you are watching on YouTube, like and subscribe here.

- 29:37Speaker 1: for Eric at Jeff Warren for myself, I'm over on
- 29:40Speaker 1: TikTok at mister Jeff Warren. So check us out there,
- 29:45Speaker 1: and uh, I don't know, I might as we're taking
- 29:48Speaker 1: a break here, I might go have a shmag if
- 29:51Speaker 1: everybody knows what.
- 29:52Speaker 3: That is, greatest, greatest, the best.
- 29:55Speaker 1: One of the greatest things you've ever sent.
- 29:58Speaker 5: Eric.
- 29:59Speaker 3: If you're on Instagram, I'm just looking daily schmag s
- 30:02Speaker 3: h M A G. It's just this fifteen second clip
- 30:07Speaker 3: of the outside part of what's the park out Candlestick all.
- 30:12Speaker 1: Right now where the Giants play. Geez.
- 30:14Speaker 3: Yeah, so it's it's just these two deep Yeah, it's
- 30:18Speaker 3: just these two super deep voice announcers. The color anas
- 30:21Speaker 3: played baseball absolutely has been smoking heaters for like forty
- 30:24Speaker 3: five years, deep voice. And they go out to the
- 30:26Speaker 3: board walk outside of the yard and there's this just
- 30:29Speaker 3: guy with a dart hanging out of his mouth and uh,
- 30:34Speaker 3: and he's just playing catch out there. And they go
- 30:36Speaker 3: out there and the color guy goes, guys, got a
- 30:38Speaker 3: heater going, And then the play by play guy goes, yeah,
- 30:41Speaker 3: I'm playing catch having a smag.
- 30:44Speaker 1: It's the greatest thing. There are some people probably like, Okay,
- 30:47Speaker 1: what are you talking about here? You have to look
- 30:49Speaker 1: it up. It's just get de late. Yeah.
- 30:51Speaker 3: It's an Instagram count that plays the same clip every day.
- 30:54Speaker 1: Yes, And that's the clip this.
- 30:55Speaker 3: One plays and I watch it every morning and I'm like,
- 30:57Speaker 3: all right, I get my day going. Here we go,
- 30:59Speaker 3: there you go. Because apparently schmag is a term for
- 31:02Speaker 3: a cigarette. I never knew.
- 31:03Speaker 1: It's new to me.
- 31:05Speaker 2: I was in a game for quite some time, but
- 31:07Speaker 2: I never heard that term.
- 31:08Speaker 1: So all right, everybody, we're gonna take a break when
- 31:11Speaker 1: we get back. We got some Sixers talk and Philly's talk.
- 31:14Speaker 1: Stick with us. All right, we are back. Let's dive
- 31:18Speaker 1: into the Philadelphia seventy six ers in terms of some
- 31:21Speaker 1: power rankings. Eric ESPN just came out with this past
- 31:26Speaker 1: week their NBA Future Power Rankings, and the seventy six
- 31:32Speaker 1: Ers have plummeted to being now ranked nineteenth coming into
- 31:36Speaker 1: this season. I hate laughing, but it's like, what do
- 31:40Speaker 1: we do at this point other than laugh at what
- 31:42Speaker 1: has happened with this team and what the future may
- 31:46Speaker 1: actually be. Look, I mean, it's not all doom and gloom.
- 31:49Speaker 1: This team certainly isn't the Washington Wizards by any stretch,
- 31:52Speaker 1: but well, who knows, maybe they could be, Maybe they
- 31:57Speaker 1: could be, but man, they had a fourth place ranking
- 32:03Speaker 1: last year, which which looks hilariously wrong and at retrospect here,
- 32:08Speaker 1: but it's I don't know, It's like it's like I'm
- 32:12Speaker 1: looking forward to the season, but kind of just like
- 32:14Speaker 1: not looking forward to it as well. You feel the
- 32:17Speaker 1: same way.
- 32:19Speaker 3: I mean, camp be as bad as last year. I
- 32:22Speaker 3: know they were pre ranked fourth overall, but even I
- 32:25Speaker 3: was like, yeah, that doesn't feel right. Embid isn't healthy
- 32:30Speaker 3: Paul George. Pretty quickly it was like, oh, he's not.
- 32:35Speaker 1: Spending his knee in the preseason.
- 32:37Speaker 3: It was like here we go now, yeah, and it
- 32:40Speaker 3: was like, oh, all of a sudden, this team is
- 32:42Speaker 3: just MAXI and the McCain kid who promptly tore his
- 32:46Speaker 3: a cl I thought they were ranked too high, but
- 32:50Speaker 3: you know, nineteen actually, I mean it's.
- 32:56Speaker 1: Who are they ranked between.
- 32:57Speaker 3: Again, there's sandwich between the Pistons, who are good, and
- 33:03Speaker 3: then the Raptors are right the Raptors, and I that
- 33:05Speaker 3: I take offense too. I watched the Raptors last year.
- 33:08Speaker 3: They're not a good team. They just fired their GM.
- 33:11Speaker 3: It's it's just not a good situation up there. Yeah,
- 33:13Speaker 3: and we're only one spot above them. That's that's pretty pathetic.
- 33:17Speaker 3: But that's what you get when you sign right now,
- 33:21Speaker 3: when you have two of the probably four worst contracts
- 33:24Speaker 3: in basketball on your roster and they're not even playing right.
- 33:28Speaker 3: So I saw Embiid on Instagram. He was at the
- 33:31Speaker 3: initial shoot you know, shoot arounds with the team, and
- 33:34Speaker 3: he was talking edgecomb and looks skinnier, but if he's
- 33:39Speaker 3: not even gonna I mean skinnier body, bad knees. Yeah,
- 33:43Speaker 3: seven to two doesn't matter. So I don't know when
- 33:47Speaker 3: he's actually gonna play. I don't know when Paul George
- 33:49Speaker 3: is actually gonna play. It makes you incredibly tiny in
- 33:52Speaker 3: the front court, like really really tiny, and you start
- 33:58Speaker 3: to play some of these bigger teams. You're you're yard
- 34:00Speaker 3: heavy and you can score, but like all of a sudden,
- 34:02Speaker 3: you become like you become the Pacers without a good defense,
- 34:06Speaker 3: which is not a good place to be or the
- 34:08Speaker 3: depth the Pacers have. Yeah, exactly. And here's the thing
- 34:12Speaker 3: that's just awful. I mean, I'm not going to go
- 34:14Speaker 3: on about PG and em Bead's injuries, because what the hell,
- 34:16Speaker 3: I'm excited to watch Edgecombe. I think Edgecomb, Maxie and
- 34:19Speaker 3: McCain are gonna be a lot of fun to watch. Like,
- 34:22Speaker 3: there's just no doubt there. I really wish I would
- 34:24Speaker 3: have signedy Aabaselli to make it a little to bring
- 34:26Speaker 3: some retain some size and have some energy. Uh, that
- 34:31Speaker 3: was a really bad non signing in their part. They
- 34:33Speaker 3: under they undervalued him. Stupid move. The Nicks picked him up.
- 34:36Speaker 3: He's going to kick our asses this year. But like,
- 34:39Speaker 3: here's what's really deflating. Like, the Hawks are ranked twelve. Yeah,
- 34:46Speaker 3: they're better than the Sixers right now, but seven spots higher.
- 34:50Speaker 3: They didn't make the playoffs last year.
- 34:52Speaker 2: Now that they have some.
- 34:53Speaker 1: They're a team. They are an interesting yea, they have
- 34:56Speaker 1: the Magic are very interesting heading into the season.
- 34:58Speaker 3: Dude, they got Dyson Daniels, Jalen Johnson, that Russia, the
- 35:02Speaker 3: French kid from last year.
- 35:03Speaker 2: I like a lot.
- 35:04Speaker 3: They're banking on prison is to be good better, but
- 35:07Speaker 3: like that team's seven spots higher than you.
- 35:09Speaker 2: This is the one that pisses me. The Celtics are
- 35:10Speaker 2: ranked thirteenth or nineteenth this year.
- 35:14Speaker 3: What you say that they're superstar that that was the
- 35:19Speaker 3: MVP of the Finals just two years ago.
- 35:22Speaker 2: He's just not there now. But there's still.
- 35:24Speaker 3: Six spots ahead of us. Awesome, who were just absolutely mediocre.
- 35:28Speaker 3: They're fourteenth. The Pacers are fifteenth. Tyres Haliburton's not going
- 35:32Speaker 3: to play this year. They're fifteenth, and they lost Miles Turner.
- 35:35Speaker 3: Somehow they're above us. The Grizzlies are above us in
- 35:39Speaker 3: the piss like things aren't good, but there are things
- 35:43Speaker 3: to be excited about with the edge Combe and the Guards,
- 35:46Speaker 3: and maybe PG has a bounce back season. I'm not
- 35:51Speaker 3: I'm not like completely against that happening. I think it
- 35:53Speaker 3: could happen. The MB thing though, is just so it's
- 35:57Speaker 3: the whole season once again slating.
- 35:59Speaker 1: It's just a flating yeah yeah.
- 36:01Speaker 3: But it's the same narrative every year, like if it's
- 36:04Speaker 3: in shape, be healthy, it's like you want to move on,
- 36:07Speaker 3: but then you sign in that monster contract. One positive
- 36:11Speaker 3: for the Sixers is we here at the show. We
- 36:14Speaker 3: are abstually we are going to do a process show
- 36:17Speaker 3: before the season starts.
- 36:19Speaker 1: Yep.
- 36:19Speaker 3: I'm thinking thinking October, in September, October some time.
- 36:24Speaker 2: We're going to get in before the season.
- 36:25Speaker 3: Because this is what I've been like jotty notes down
- 36:28Speaker 3: during like work calls, just just thinking about it. I've
- 36:32Speaker 3: gone back and read some of the art I used
- 36:33Speaker 3: to write articles for PSD. Yes, we used to write
- 36:36Speaker 3: articles back in the day.
- 36:37Speaker 2: Yes, And I went back and read some of them recently,
- 36:39Speaker 2: and I'm just like.
- 36:40Speaker 3: The twenty fourteen article, I'm like, man, I wonder if
- 36:45Speaker 3: what if Neuralan's Noel and Michael Michael, what that was
- 36:49Speaker 3: a kid's name the mcwe mcw Ookie of the Year
- 36:54Speaker 3: in twenty thirty.
- 36:55Speaker 2: Like, I was like, could these guys be in the future?
- 36:58Speaker 2: Good God, so sad Man.
- 37:02Speaker 1: Yeah, oh we're gonna get that podcast.
- 37:04Speaker 2: Yeah, I can't wait. Yes, Julia might be in the future.
- 37:08Speaker 1: Yeah, Oka far I was so excited. I'm like, yeah,
- 37:11Speaker 1: I got Oka four. Let's yeah, let's go it.
- 37:13Speaker 3: I dude, I remember like twenty for twenty fifteen. Oka
- 37:17Speaker 3: four and Narn's nowell like the third game of the
- 37:19Speaker 3: year and each had twenty points, like ten rebounds and
- 37:22Speaker 3: they were just awesome.
- 37:23Speaker 1: Yeah, and I was like, we.
- 37:25Speaker 3: Finally did it and it beads coming.
- 37:27Speaker 1: Oh my god. Yeah.
- 37:29Speaker 2: Nope, not even.
- 37:31Speaker 1: Close, not even close, not close at all. Oh my gosh.
- 37:35Speaker 1: Well there is there. There is some high hopes in
- 37:37Speaker 1: Philadelphia as we segue into the Philadelphia Phillies, because this
- 37:41Speaker 1: Phillies team is now at top of the NL East
- 37:46Speaker 1: as champions. Yes they are division champions. I just want
- 37:50Speaker 1: to dive into just this up and down season. They
- 37:54Speaker 1: have this momentum now eric heading into this postseason, and
- 37:58Speaker 1: I just I can wait to see this team. We're
- 38:01Speaker 1: gonna dive into a little bit more with our interview
- 38:04Speaker 1: this week with Ethan Witty from the Good Fight dot Com.
- 38:08Speaker 1: But they have now won the NL East for two
- 38:11Speaker 1: consecutive seasons in a row. I am so high on
- 38:15Speaker 1: where they are at and like again, a roller coaster
- 38:18Speaker 1: of a season. I remember just four months ago saying, Okay,
- 38:22Speaker 1: my whole prediction of them going to the World Series
- 38:24Speaker 1: is absolute garbage and nonsense. And now we're here, you know,
- 38:28Speaker 1: mid September, toward the end of September, red October is
- 38:32Speaker 1: just right around the corner, and the pitching is gonna
- 38:35Speaker 1: be I just cannot wait to see the pitching. Some
- 38:38Speaker 1: of the guys in the batter's box, we're gonna need
- 38:40Speaker 1: to step up and it need to be consistent. You're
- 38:43Speaker 1: gonna get to with Ethan in a bit. I cannot
- 38:46Speaker 1: wait to watch this team like this is this is
- 38:49Speaker 1: is so nice to have like something nice here. We've
- 38:52Speaker 1: got the Philadelphia Eagles, We've got the Philadelphia Phillies here.
- 38:57Speaker 1: It's it's nice, Eric, It's nice to feel feel good.
- 39:03Speaker 2: Yeah, mane.
- 39:05Speaker 3: One thing that bumm me out was that they won
- 39:07Speaker 3: the NL East at like one in the morning, basically, yeah, yeah,
- 39:11Speaker 3: So I couldn't stand up and watch the cell because
- 39:13Speaker 3: I used to, Yeah a minute, I used to celebrate
- 39:16Speaker 3: with him.
- 39:16Speaker 2: When in the East.
- 39:17Speaker 1: Uh, you go go out and have a shmag, have
- 39:21Speaker 1: a shmag.
- 39:23Speaker 2: Here you're going.
- 39:26Speaker 3: I mean, I wouldn't do the beer funnel like Schwarber
- 39:28Speaker 3: was doing the other night.
- 39:30Speaker 1: And he made at one.
- 39:32Speaker 2: Point he was like I'm hammered or something like that.
- 39:34Speaker 1: Pretty.
- 39:35Speaker 3: I don't know if you know what this was a
- 39:37Speaker 3: This was a absolute pro drinking move. He had the
- 39:40Speaker 3: tube here in a bottle here, yes, in a double
- 39:45Speaker 3: and like I back in like the senior week days,
- 39:47Speaker 3: I've done the double, but I never thought to do
- 39:50Speaker 3: the bottle.
- 39:52Speaker 1: The bottle.
- 39:53Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, good on him.
- 39:57Speaker 3: No, it's it's it's fantastic. And you know when the Mets,
- 40:01Speaker 3: when the Mets swept us a couple of weeks ago, right, yeah, yeah,
- 40:06Speaker 3: I mean I was just like, oh here we go again.
- 40:08Speaker 3: My god, this team took us out of the playoffs
- 40:10Speaker 3: last year.
- 40:10Speaker 1: They're hot. They went fourteen four. They went fourteen of
- 40:14Speaker 1: four after getting swept by the Mets. Seriously, it just
- 40:18Speaker 1: it's eighteen games stretched. That was just launched by Kyle
- 40:23Speaker 1: Schwarver's four home run game the night after the City
- 40:27Speaker 1: Field massacre. They won three of four from the Braves
- 40:30Speaker 1: and just looked looked like a cannon was shot out,
- 40:34Speaker 1: you know.
- 40:35Speaker 3: And conversely, the Mets just completely fell apart. Yes, you know, great,
- 40:38Speaker 3: good fuck them, but like, but not just that they
- 40:41Speaker 3: went the East, there were only two games out of
- 40:43Speaker 3: the top seed with the Brewers in the entire leagues
- 40:45Speaker 3: for the home field at the playoffs. It's just, I know,
- 40:51Speaker 3: it's been an up and down season, but it's been
- 40:53Speaker 3: one of the most fun ones. I gotta say, Like
- 40:56Speaker 3: the run they had in twenty two when they went
- 40:57Speaker 3: to the World Series, a ton of fun. Reese Hoskins
- 41:01Speaker 3: was a ton of fun, you know, just throwing the
- 41:03Speaker 3: bat and just being a maniac all of a sudden,
- 41:05Speaker 3: Like I tested his blood that year because he had
- 41:07Speaker 3: a bunch of home runs and he was like screaming
- 41:09Speaker 3: and yelling quite a lot. Yes, but this team is
- 41:12Speaker 3: just you had your typical stories. Castianos is lazy and
- 41:16Speaker 3: he sucks at the plate, but every now and again
- 41:18Speaker 3: he comes through. That's been his entire run as a
- 41:21Speaker 3: Philly I think I think, honestly, the fans are a
- 41:23Speaker 3: little hard on him. Yeah, Trey Turner a little bit
- 41:27Speaker 3: of an injury at the end that happened too again,
- 41:30Speaker 3: but this one seems to be like mild one.
- 41:33Speaker 2: He's gonna he'll be back by the playoffs.
- 41:35Speaker 1: You lose your start, you lose your key, bullpen piece,
- 41:38Speaker 1: to a to a suspension, you know, you lose your ace.
- 41:42Speaker 3: Yes, yes, blood clots for God's sake, like, yeah, my brother.
- 41:48Speaker 2: In blood clots.
- 41:48Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 41:49Speaker 3: I really felt for him when I heard the story,
- 41:51Speaker 3: and I thought, maybe, well, I'll just do what I
- 41:53Speaker 3: do when he gets shot up a couple of times
- 41:54Speaker 3: and it's gone. But no, apparently it's not bad. He
- 41:56Speaker 3: had to get surgery and his like it just sucks. Yeah,
- 41:59Speaker 3: but on the bride side, Man Schoreber just an all
- 42:04Speaker 3: time Philly season, Yeah, not just like like I think,
- 42:08Speaker 3: like all time Philadelphia season.
- 42:10Speaker 2: Yeah, like like it's.
- 42:12Speaker 3: We're talking like Babe the Blue Ox and Paul Bunyan
- 42:15Speaker 3: like kind of heroic kind of thing, like a fairy
- 42:18Speaker 3: tale or whatever you want to call it. And it's
- 42:20Speaker 3: just like what fifty three home runs now on hundred
- 42:23Speaker 3: twenty eight. Ribbi's in the contract year, still doesn't get on?
- 42:26Speaker 3: Still can't you know? Stilling bat in two forty. But
- 42:29Speaker 3: at that with those stats, who gives a shitty is
- 42:31Speaker 3: at nine hundred ops.
- 42:33Speaker 1: He was like a couple of years ago, he was
- 42:34Speaker 1: batting like one ninety eight if you remember, and it's
- 42:36Speaker 1: just like like, okay, this is just gonna be.
- 42:39Speaker 3: Like twelve this year at one point. Yeah, if you remember,
- 42:42Speaker 3: it was pretty bad. Yeah, No, he's a nine to
- 42:44Speaker 3: forty three ops. And like, just he's been fantastic. Harrison
- 42:50Speaker 3: batter has been an awesome story since coming here. Like
- 42:53Speaker 3: he said, uh, I saw a clip of him in
- 42:57Speaker 3: the in the clubhouse when they won, and he was
- 42:59Speaker 3: just like what a just goes what a blessing.
- 43:01Speaker 1: It was like I was on.
- 43:02Speaker 2: The Twins and like it's the same. It happens a lot.
- 43:06Speaker 3: Like you're on a bad team's going nowhere, they traded
- 43:08Speaker 3: all the players away. You're playing for nothing, Like your
- 43:11Speaker 3: stats might slip a little bit because's like what am
- 43:13Speaker 3: I fucking doing here? Like, yeah, I'm making a paycheck,
- 43:16Speaker 3: but I want to win. Comes to a team to
- 43:18Speaker 3: have a shot, and he has just been fucking awesome
- 43:21Speaker 3: the past two weeks. Like he's he actually has a
- 43:23Speaker 3: nine hundred oh ps. He's second on the team right now.
- 43:25Speaker 3: So he's played forty games, so it's a pretty good
- 43:27Speaker 3: sample size. He's been a huge spark plug. I mean,
- 43:32Speaker 3: they're batam lead off for god's sakes because he's actually
- 43:34Speaker 3: hitting the ball. Yeah, and really good in the field.
- 43:38Speaker 3: Great vibes too for the with the kid, with the
- 43:41Speaker 3: kid he helped out in Miami.
- 43:44Speaker 2: Just love the guy.
- 43:45Speaker 3: And then then you got the just Duran comes in
- 43:48Speaker 3: like he's been. He's had a couple of shaky spots here,
- 43:51Speaker 3: but like then then I'm kind of like he's yeah,
- 43:55Speaker 3: he's he's gonna throw that ninety eight mile per hour
- 43:57Speaker 3: knuckle curve that hits the dirt.
- 43:59Speaker 2: It's just like, what.
- 44:00Speaker 1: Are you gonna do?
- 44:00Speaker 2: You can't hit that?
- 44:02Speaker 3: He throws that fucking thing, and he throws it one
- 44:03Speaker 3: O four top top high ball, like against the against
- 44:07Speaker 3: the strike line. Every every batter is gonna swing at
- 44:10Speaker 3: that because they're they just want to they want something
- 44:12Speaker 3: to hit. And he's been phenomenal. Harper has been great again, Schwarber,
- 44:17Speaker 3: like I said, Turner's coming back, Brandon Marsh earned center
- 44:21Speaker 3: field spot.
- 44:22Speaker 2: He's been I got it.
- 44:24Speaker 3: He's Max Kepler has been good this year the past
- 44:27Speaker 3: few the past hover many weeks, he's actually played really
- 44:30Speaker 3: well and they've had these guys step up that that
- 44:32Speaker 3: had to step up.
- 44:34Speaker 2: Marshan Wilson.
- 44:37Speaker 3: Rojas is gonna be out for a little while, so
- 44:39Speaker 3: you need you need KEMP to keep or Sos or
- 44:42Speaker 3: so Rojas is on the d L. Now I forget
- 44:45Speaker 3: which one Rojas. So you need auto Kemp to continue
- 44:50Speaker 3: to step up and fill in its spots.
- 44:52Speaker 1: About how about Bryson Stott though too, And I'm gonna
- 44:55Speaker 1: I'm gonna talk to Ethan a little bit about Bryson Stott.
- 44:57Speaker 1: But what a second half of the season. Seriously, how
- 45:01Speaker 1: many of us wrote them off. They're like, all right,
- 45:02Speaker 1: well we're gonna need to figure out second base for
- 45:04Speaker 1: the future. But here we are and he is killing it.
- 45:10Speaker 2: Yeah, and he started killing it.
- 45:11Speaker 3: You know, he had a game where he played some
- 45:13Speaker 3: country song when he came out to that and he
- 45:16Speaker 3: didn't play that song that everyone loves. And then like
- 45:20Speaker 3: the week after he brought the song back then he
- 45:22Speaker 3: started hitting again.
- 45:23Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 45:23Speaker 3: I think it has something to do with it, because,
- 45:24Speaker 3: like I remember hearing it. Even my son was like,
- 45:27Speaker 3: that's not is everyone knows this song? Why is he
- 45:29Speaker 3: playing this country shitstition really yeah, it was really stupid.
- 45:35Speaker 3: But going to the pitching, like the bullpen's really good
- 45:38Speaker 3: right now.
- 45:39Speaker 1: Some of them guys have to find roles now because.
- 45:42Speaker 3: There's definitely defined roles at this time at this point.
- 45:45Speaker 3: But starting pitching, going to the playoffs, that's the one place,
- 45:49Speaker 3: like offensively, where you want to be. Last year, they
- 45:52Speaker 3: got super hot first half of the season, had like
- 45:55Speaker 3: what six All Stars, Yeah, and then it kind of
- 45:57Speaker 3: just who as the season went on. They're hot the
- 46:00Speaker 3: right time. There's only what twelve games left or whatever.
- 46:02Speaker 3: And but the starting pitching going forward, you have three
- 46:07Speaker 3: you have one I think I would call Sanchez and Ace.
- 46:10Speaker 3: At this point, you have one Ace, you got it
- 46:13Speaker 3: one b Ace and Suarez.
- 46:15Speaker 2: He's been really good.
- 46:16Speaker 1: Well.
- 46:17Speaker 3: Zarto pitching super well. Has the most wins on the team,
- 46:20Speaker 3: by the way, which is crazy. He's he's he's definitely
- 46:24Speaker 3: like your three nole is probably your three four You
- 46:27Speaker 3: don't that's the one. You got three left. He's in
- 46:29Speaker 3: a righty and the righty' shaky Yeah. Walker Buehler's on
- 46:32Speaker 3: this team. I don't know when that happened.
- 46:33Speaker 2: I told you for the show.
- 46:35Speaker 3: Just missed that one completely. But that's the out of
- 46:40Speaker 3: all the optimism, that's the one piece of the season where.
- 46:43Speaker 2: I'm like, or the playoffs, I'm like, oh, man.
- 46:45Speaker 3: That's you want to tighten into a four man rotation,
- 46:49Speaker 3: but do you even have four with a really shaky
- 46:52Speaker 3: Aaron Nola.
- 46:53Speaker 1: So I'm still confident going into this postseason with this pitching.
- 46:56Speaker 1: I mean I am. I'm confident, I really am. I
- 46:59Speaker 1: think it's going to be fantastic to watch. So look, buddy,
- 47:02Speaker 1: before I let you go to real quick, want to
- 47:04Speaker 1: get into Kyle Schwarver's possible upcoming contract with the Phillies
- 47:08Speaker 1: because news leaked from Ken Rosenthal this week that the
- 47:11Speaker 1: Phillies are looking to offer Kyle Schwarber four years, thirty
- 47:15Speaker 1: million per year for him to remain on the team. Hell,
- 47:20Speaker 1: I'll take that. I'll take that. John Middleton'll probably take
- 47:26Speaker 1: that too, But like, I don't know, I don't know
- 47:28Speaker 1: if he's gonna want to test the market. He loves Philadelphia.
- 47:31Speaker 1: Philly is his place, like it's it's I don't know, man,
- 47:36Speaker 1: Philly's different than so many cities where guys will at
- 47:40Speaker 1: times based on the stories over the years, we'll take
- 47:42Speaker 1: a quote pay cut to stay in Philadelphia. I wonder
- 47:45Speaker 1: if that's going to be a situation like this.
- 47:48Speaker 3: That's my only fear is it feels like a pay cut,
- 47:50Speaker 3: because if he hit the open market with an open mind,
- 47:55Speaker 3: I can't imagine that Dodgers or Yankees or someone like
- 47:58Speaker 3: that not offering him like thirty five or forty Yeah,
- 48:02Speaker 3: just just to top the Phillies. Yeah, I mean, I'm
- 48:06Speaker 3: sitting here going one hundred and twenty million is pretty low,
- 48:09Speaker 3: but for a guy who put this team on his
- 48:12Speaker 3: back a couple of times this year and is absolutely
- 48:15Speaker 3: the reason, like one of the one key reasons where
- 48:19Speaker 3: we won the NL East.
- 48:20Speaker 2: It's him.
- 48:21Speaker 3: And I know you don't want to you're not rewarding
- 48:23Speaker 3: past whatever when you sign a contract, but he means
- 48:27Speaker 3: so much of this team. He's been a stalwart for
- 48:30Speaker 3: Philly and quite some time. And like he's been batting leadoff, Yeah,
- 48:35Speaker 3: he's like your leadoff hitter. He blasts him, runs, he
- 48:39Speaker 3: gets the crowd going, he gets the team going. When
- 48:41Speaker 3: he starts hitting, everyone kind of starts work, you know,
- 48:44Speaker 3: hitting around him, and he's just he's more important than
- 48:48Speaker 3: just like a home run hitter in my opinion, and
- 48:51Speaker 3: I hope his love of being here. He has kids,
- 48:56Speaker 3: I'm sure they have a great home in the Philadelphia
- 48:59Speaker 3: area or in South Is where a lot of players live,
- 49:01Speaker 3: and he just wants to, like, you know, plan his
- 49:03Speaker 3: roots and just stay here because he has He's traveled
- 49:05Speaker 3: a lot. Like if Chicago Boston is thirty two years old? Yeah,
- 49:09Speaker 3: what else did he play for? He I think he
- 49:11Speaker 3: has another team in there right now, I said Boston, right, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 49:16Speaker 3: Chicago and Boston. I'm pretty sure the two teams might
- 49:18Speaker 3: be a third one, but I I I'm just hoping
- 49:23Speaker 3: that's enough money for him to stay if they have
- 49:25Speaker 3: to up it. There's no captain baseball. Who gives a shit? Right,
- 49:29Speaker 3: you're the team is worth nine gazillion dollars? Just make
- 49:32Speaker 3: it for four years forty mil per? Just who cares?
- 49:37Speaker 3: Yes at this point?
- 49:38Speaker 1: Yeah, who gives a crap? Really? Who gives a crap?
- 49:40Speaker 1: I think he was also a let me check right here?
- 49:43Speaker 1: Uh he was? He was on Washington.
- 49:46Speaker 2: Yes, that's right.
- 49:47Speaker 1: He was on Washington for one one year, I believe. So, yeah,
- 49:51Speaker 1: good way to end this before we go to break here, folks. Yeah,
- 49:56Speaker 1: you got any final thoughts. Man, It's just it's it's
- 49:58Speaker 1: a fun time. It's fun time for sure, fun time
- 50:02Speaker 1: for sports. Yes, yeah, absolutely, all right, just for sports.
- 50:06Speaker 2: Just that's it.
- 50:07Speaker 1: Not the world, not the country. Yes, no, all right, folks,
- 50:15Speaker 1: we're gonna take a break.
- 50:16Speaker 3: Wait one thing to say, No, I'm not gonna.
- 50:22Speaker 1: Yes, Oh, you gotta watch us on YouTube, folks. It's
- 50:28Speaker 1: a good time watching our dumb faces when we're doing stuff.
- 50:31Speaker 1: It really is great. All right, quick break and then
- 50:35Speaker 1: when we come back, more Phillies Talk.
- 50:38Speaker 2: And now on the table.
- 50:42Speaker 1: And joining us this week to dive into this Philadelphia
- 50:45Speaker 1: Phillies team as we look towards the postseason. A lot
- 50:48Speaker 1: of postseason storylines that we're gonna be following here at
- 50:50Speaker 1: Philadelphia Sports Table podcast show. We have from the Good
- 50:54Speaker 1: Fight dot Com. He is the supreme blogger over there
- 50:58Speaker 1: at that wonderful site. You know, we love our sp sites.
- 51:00Speaker 1: We've got the one and only Ethan Witty. How are
- 51:02Speaker 1: you doing, buddy, I'm good.
- 51:04Speaker 4: Ready for right October to show up yet again and
- 51:07Speaker 4: get moving on that.
- 51:08Speaker 5: I'm ready for the late nights. I'm ready for the
- 51:10Speaker 5: long nights. Totally fine.
- 51:12Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely, look there are. Like I said, there are
- 51:15Speaker 1: so many storylines heading into this postseason. We're certainly going
- 51:18Speaker 1: to get into some of them during this discussion and conversation,
- 51:20Speaker 1: but I kind of wanted to be reflective first here
- 51:23Speaker 1: when we look at this Philly season, this twenty twenty
- 51:27Speaker 1: five season, there have been a lot of ups and downs.
- 51:30Speaker 1: It really has been a roller coaster ride for all
- 51:33Speaker 1: of us fans following this team, wanting this team to
- 51:35Speaker 1: get to this point where they are NL East Division winners.
- 51:40Speaker 1: But I do wonder Ethan, you know, what do you
- 51:42Speaker 1: think has been the theme of this season? If you
- 51:45Speaker 1: had to pinpoint a theme, what would that theme be
- 51:47Speaker 1: and why?
- 51:50Speaker 2: Uh?
- 51:51Speaker 4: Lately, I would say it's the overcoming adversity. I mean
- 51:53Speaker 4: through the whole season, it wasn't like they were you
- 51:57Speaker 4: don't want to say coasting, but it's kind of like
- 51:59Speaker 4: they knew they were to get to the playoffs, but
- 52:02Speaker 4: how were they going to get to the playoffs?
- 52:03Speaker 5: You know, what were they going to be? Like? What
- 52:05Speaker 5: shape were they going to be in?
- 52:06Speaker 4: Yep, In the past what month plus, it's kind of
- 52:08Speaker 4: been like, Okay, first your ace goes down and then
- 52:12Speaker 4: your MVP candidate goes down. And then you know, Alec
- 52:16Speaker 4: Bohm gets nicked up, and it's so says Nick, that
- 52:19Speaker 4: they're getting there.
- 52:21Speaker 5: Just there.
- 52:22Speaker 4: Every obstacle that's been in their way lately, they're just
- 52:25Speaker 4: kind of jumping over it and moving forward. I think
- 52:28Speaker 4: I saw today it's they're like twenty and nine or
- 52:30Speaker 4: some twenty one and nine or something since Wheeler went down,
- 52:33Speaker 4: which is just incredible. It's it's really it's great for
- 52:37Speaker 4: the regular season. You know, we can thank the Mets
- 52:39Speaker 4: for whatever is going on there, thank God for that. Yes,
- 52:43Speaker 4: but it's really impressive that they've done in the regular season.
- 52:46Speaker 4: You know, I'll still maintain a hint of skepticism about
- 52:50Speaker 4: the postseason because you just took away arguably the best
- 52:54Speaker 4: pitcher in baseball from your postseason.
- 52:57Speaker 5: You you didn't make it easier by any stretch.
- 53:00Speaker 4: Now, that's a regular season problem, right, you know, they
- 53:02Speaker 4: have five starters to get through it, but you just
- 53:05Speaker 4: took away one of the two best that'll be in
- 53:07Speaker 4: the National League, and that's not a good thing for them.
- 53:11Speaker 5: Yeah, once you at the postseason, things change.
- 53:14Speaker 4: I mean, all the teams are good. You're not beating
- 53:16Speaker 4: up on bad teams. You're not beating up on struggling teams.
- 53:18Speaker 4: You're playing good teams each night.
- 53:20Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 53:20Speaker 4: So I think if you're talking about like a season
- 53:23Speaker 4: long theme, it's just getting through.
- 53:25Speaker 5: Just keep plugging away.
- 53:26Speaker 4: It's almost like blue collar, hard hat type thing. Just
- 53:30Speaker 4: keep plugging away, just keep going, keep going. Everything will
- 53:33Speaker 4: be fine. Yeah, just keep get towards the goal.
- 53:36Speaker 1: I think resiliency for me. I mean, if there's one
- 53:38Speaker 1: word to describe this theme this team throughout this year,
- 53:42Speaker 1: that theme is resiliency for sure. Overcoming the injuries. I mean,
- 53:46Speaker 1: at first, when we heard that Jose Alvarado is going
- 53:48Speaker 1: to be going out on that suspension, holy cow, it
- 53:51Speaker 1: was such a deflator, so many deflating moments throughout this season.
- 53:55Speaker 1: But this team has persevered and the resiliency really is
- 53:59Speaker 1: quite quite amazing, to say the least. And I think
- 54:01Speaker 1: this twenty twenty five team is going to be remembered
- 54:04Speaker 1: in the history books of baseball because of that. But Ethan,
- 54:08Speaker 1: I wanted to dive into some of the personnel on
- 54:10Speaker 1: this team, what we've been seeing from them, what we
- 54:11Speaker 1: can may maybe expect from them during the postseason, and
- 54:15Speaker 1: first and foremost, I really want to dive into Bryson
- 54:19Speaker 1: Stott because just I mean four months ago we're talking
- 54:23Speaker 1: on this podcast. You know, there are other podcasters and
- 54:26Speaker 1: friends of ours who said, you know what, he just
- 54:29Speaker 1: not looking great as we knew, and is he long
- 54:31Speaker 1: for this team and to be a key contributor. However,
- 54:36Speaker 1: even though we thought he was cooked that maybe four
- 54:39Speaker 1: months ago, since late July, he's been killing it in
- 54:41Speaker 1: the batter's box. So how do you think Bryson Stott
- 54:45Speaker 1: and his performance, if he's able to remain consistent in
- 54:48Speaker 1: terms of his hitting, possibly plays a key role as
- 54:51Speaker 1: we look towards this postseason.
- 54:55Speaker 4: That one you kind of want to look at the
- 54:56Speaker 4: work of Kevin Long. I think they've shown a few
- 54:59Speaker 4: times on broadcast, sent on different articles. You can see that,
- 55:03Speaker 4: like his mechanics are different, his hands are in a
- 55:06Speaker 4: different place, which.
- 55:07Speaker 5: Are helping him get to the ball faster.
- 55:09Speaker 4: And that was kind of kind of the big knock
- 55:11Speaker 4: on him was velocity could beat him, but you know,
- 55:14Speaker 4: bringing your hands down, you don't have as much movement
- 55:16Speaker 4: to get to the ball. It's helped him get to
- 55:20Speaker 4: a more consistent hitting position, which has led to the
- 55:22Speaker 4: results you've seen. I was on that bus of I
- 55:26Speaker 4: was full on after the season's over, it might be
- 55:29Speaker 4: time to move on because unless he's I mean, he's
- 55:33Speaker 4: an incredible defender. I mean, it would be difficult to
- 55:35Speaker 4: give up on that. But he wasn't hitting, and he
- 55:38Speaker 4: wasn't hitting at all. But then something switched, and it
- 55:41Speaker 4: could be something as simple as a mechanical adjustment to
- 55:44Speaker 4: where that mechanical adjustment has led to results that you
- 55:48Speaker 4: keep waiting for. Okay, is the Brysons thought we saw
- 55:51Speaker 4: from the first half going to come back. I mean,
- 55:53Speaker 4: like you said, we're on three months now of this,
- 55:55Speaker 4: so at some point, it's not a small.
- 55:57Speaker 5: Sample size anymore. It's kind of what he it's kind
- 55:59Speaker 5: of of what he is.
- 56:01Speaker 4: So you look at Scott, I look at a guy
- 56:05Speaker 4: like Max Kepler, who I think we can honestly say
- 56:09Speaker 4: no one wanted on the team after the deadline, Yes,
- 56:13Speaker 4: And then there it came out that once he accepted
- 56:15Speaker 4: his role, like you're going to be platooning. Once he
- 56:18Speaker 4: accepted his role, he's taken off and he's kind of
- 56:21Speaker 4: taken off to the point where do we really want
- 56:23Speaker 4: to platoon him with whoever? It would be that coming
- 56:26Speaker 4: in for him, you know, I think we're kind of
- 56:28Speaker 4: the point where you kind of want all these guys
- 56:30Speaker 4: in a stable spot.
- 56:31Speaker 5: Stott included, where keep the line up. The lineup has
- 56:34Speaker 5: been producing, the line has been winning, and they're beating
- 56:37Speaker 5: good teams. So it's not like they're they're playing the
- 56:40Speaker 5: White Sox, that twin the Rockets. They're not playing bad,
- 56:42Speaker 5: They're playing good teams and winning.
- 56:44Speaker 1: Right, you know, Yeah, absolutely, I think I think there
- 56:50Speaker 1: is always hope with the talent on this team. I
- 56:52Speaker 1: think there is always that, and it may sound hokey,
- 56:55Speaker 1: I really don't care, but I have hope with all
- 56:57Speaker 1: of these players because there is good base ball to
- 57:00Speaker 1: be brought out I think in just about everybody on
- 57:03Speaker 1: this team. And as we segue that into this next
- 57:07Speaker 1: individual we know is an amazing baseball player, and that
- 57:11Speaker 1: is one Bryce Harper, but he has struggled for much
- 57:15Speaker 1: of this season in late and clutch base situations and moments. Ethan,
- 57:20Speaker 1: It sometimes has been frustrating to watch those moments here
- 57:23Speaker 1: in twenty twenty five. Just really bizarre to actually ask
- 57:27Speaker 1: you this question because of the type of player Bryce
- 57:30Speaker 1: Harper has been for years, But do you have concerns
- 57:33Speaker 1: and maybe what concerns do you have about about Harper
- 57:37Speaker 1: in the postseason when coming up in these clutch moments,
- 57:40Speaker 1: and clutch moments, as we know, are a key part
- 57:43Speaker 1: of playoff baseball. What are your thoughts here?
- 57:46Speaker 5: Oh, I'm not concerned at all.
- 57:47Speaker 4: Okay, in any way because we're you know, we're speaking
- 57:51Speaker 4: on the day after the two wins in Los Angeles. Yeah,
- 57:55Speaker 4: and in game one he had a big hit, and
- 57:57Speaker 4: then game two he had a big hit.
- 57:59Speaker 5: I mean it, when the moment's there, he'll be there.
- 58:01Speaker 5: I mean.
- 58:02Speaker 4: Yes, I got called out online somewhere for stating, you know,
- 58:07Speaker 4: it's Bryce Harper. Over the long term, he's been bad.
- 58:09Speaker 4: But then the person that was calling me out was right.
- 58:12Speaker 4: Since whatever data was I think it was, since he
- 58:14Speaker 4: came back from the injury, he hasn't been good.
- 58:17Speaker 5: And that's the truth. He has not been good. But
- 58:20Speaker 5: as we've seen the last two games, when he's playing
- 58:23Speaker 5: up to where he needs to be, he has stepped
- 58:25Speaker 5: up and delivered. I just I'm going to believe the
- 58:29Speaker 5: Bryce Harper over his entire career, over the Bryce Harper
- 58:33Speaker 5: of three four months. It's kind of the anti logic
- 58:37Speaker 5: of what I was just saying. About Scott, you know,
- 58:40Speaker 5: it's kind of the anti But when a case of
- 58:43Speaker 5: somebody like Harper, who is a superstar, I'm just going
- 58:46Speaker 5: to rely on his history that he will be fine.
- 58:50Speaker 5: You know, I have no doubt that.
- 58:53Speaker 1: It's a fair point.
- 58:55Speaker 4: At some point he is going to step up in
- 58:57Speaker 4: a clutch situation. I have no fear or worry about
- 59:00Speaker 4: his delivering in that situation. And if he doesn't, he doesn't.
- 59:04Speaker 4: I mean that is that is baseball, you know, not
- 59:06Speaker 4: even not even show. Hey O, Tony's going to deliver
- 59:09Speaker 4: every single time. At some point.
- 59:12Speaker 5: You just have to believe the guy you're paying three
- 59:15Speaker 5: hundred million dollars to.
- 59:16Speaker 4: Is going to earn that money as he did against
- 59:19Speaker 4: San Diego a couple of years ago. I just I'm
- 59:21Speaker 4: not not worried about him at all.
- 59:23Speaker 1: All right, very good again. Folks were talking to Ethan
- 59:26Speaker 1: Witty from the Good Fight dot Com. Ethan, can you
- 59:28Speaker 1: tell everybody where they can find you on the interwebs
- 59:30Speaker 1: if they want to follow you out there? And uh,
- 59:32Speaker 1: what you and your buddies are doing over at the
- 59:34Speaker 1: Good Fight dot com?
- 59:36Speaker 5: I think on what is it X now? Whatever?
- 59:39Speaker 1: That Twitter?
- 59:41Speaker 4: Yeh, that's still Ethan at Underscore, Witty and Blue Sky.
- 59:44Speaker 4: I honestly don't know, all right, I'm on there. I'm
- 59:47Speaker 4: on there so little. It's probably in there somewhere. I mean,
- 59:51Speaker 4: if you look on the Good Fights, speed on there,
- 59:53Speaker 4: you'll find me somewhere. I'm not running it just because
- 59:56Speaker 4: you know, I have other things to worry about.
- 59:59Speaker 5: But I'm on there somewhe.
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: Very good, very good, folks. We're going to take a break,
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: and then when we get back, we still got some
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: more Phillies talk coming your way with Ethan Wittie from
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: the Goodfight dot Com. Stick with us, all right, we
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: are back and to continue diving into this conversation about
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: the Philadelphia Phillies and what to expect during this upcoming postseason.
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: As this team has won the NL East here in
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: twenty twenty five. The postseason, as we know Ethan, requires
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: contributions from everyone on the team in order for the
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: team to advance. I mean, we need to see that.
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: And I'm wondering, who are the key players, key players
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: on this team that you're going to be keeping your
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: eyes on that really need to find that consistency in
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: the batter's box. If this Phillies team is really going
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: to find success and hopefully get to a World Series appearance.
- 1:00:46Speaker 4: What are your thoughts If we're talking line up, I
- 1:00:50Speaker 4: can look at three I'll say Alec Boone, Harrison Bader,
- 1:00:54Speaker 4: and j t Romuto, And it's kind of they all
- 1:00:58Speaker 4: have the same thing in common. The right handed You know,
- 1:01:00Speaker 4: you're you're big two are Schwerber and Harper. Those are
- 1:01:04Speaker 4: your big two and assuming hew Trey Turner at the
- 1:01:06Speaker 4: top of the lineup. But then when you get further down,
- 1:01:09Speaker 4: the righty's have to hit for the lineup to work.
- 1:01:11Speaker 4: You know, you'll have Brandon Marshen there who can be
- 1:01:16Speaker 4: neutralized by a good left handed pitcher. Max Kepler can
- 1:01:20Speaker 4: be neutralized by a good left handed pitcher.
- 1:01:23Speaker 5: So if you've got.
- 1:01:24Speaker 4: That left hander coming in, you need Bader to continue
- 1:01:27Speaker 4: whatever he's on, whatever hot streak he's on, God love him,
- 1:01:31Speaker 4: you know, if he's continuing, that's kind of one less worry.
- 1:01:35Speaker 4: Jt real Muto against same thing as it's always been.
- 1:01:38Speaker 4: He's he'll go hot and cold, and hot and cold
- 1:01:42Speaker 4: and hot and gold during the season. What they need
- 1:01:44Speaker 4: from him is just somewhere in the middle. You know,
- 1:01:47Speaker 4: you don't want stone cold hot would be great, but
- 1:01:51Speaker 4: you know, this is the playoffs.
- 1:01:52Speaker 5: You're facing great pitching.
- 1:01:54Speaker 4: And Alec Boem. They need some any kind of power.
- 1:01:59Speaker 4: Any he's some kind of a power threat.
- 1:02:02Speaker 5: It's just gone. And I wonder if it's the shoulder
- 1:02:04Speaker 5: injury of late.
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: That's what I've wondered.
- 1:02:06Speaker 5: Yeah, it's not there. Yeah, there's just zero power.
- 1:02:10Speaker 4: He's a singles hitter, and you know, getting that further
- 1:02:14Speaker 4: down the road if we're talking just now, if he's
- 1:02:17Speaker 4: going to be a singles hitter, then he needs to
- 1:02:19Speaker 4: be a singles hitter. I mean in the playoffs. Beggars
- 1:02:21Speaker 4: and choosers, you know what I mean. But if he
- 1:02:24Speaker 4: can give some semblance of power, it would add so
- 1:02:27Speaker 4: much to the lineup, just lengthening the lineup, keeping it deep,
- 1:02:30Speaker 4: keeping the threat moving, keeping the line moving. As long
- 1:02:34Speaker 4: as they're able to do that. You're talking five, six, seven,
- 1:02:37Speaker 4: eight batters deep that they are able to run out.
- 1:02:40Speaker 4: And we've seen lately there's you don't want to say
- 1:02:45Speaker 4: there's not a hole. But the whole lineup has been
- 1:02:47Speaker 4: hitting so well, it's been kind of tough to find
- 1:02:50Speaker 4: Zaut find outs in a Phillies lineup of late. You know,
- 1:02:53Speaker 4: when you get to the postseason, you'll face better pitching.
- 1:02:55Speaker 4: You'll face those relievers that were every single one of
- 1:02:58Speaker 4: them is throwing ninety eight ninety nine. They can get
- 1:03:02Speaker 4: that velocity and get contact and get some kind of
- 1:03:05Speaker 4: power that's just going to make the lineup so much deeper.
- 1:03:08Speaker 5: Just those three that I'm looking at in particular.
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: Yeah, I think it's logical, of course to look at
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: those three and say they need to step up in
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: a big way. But I'm also wanting to look at
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: what the pitching is going to look like during the
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: postseason as well. Start off with the bullpen here, because
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: the bullpen is going to need to be incredibly stable
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: in the clutch moments during this postseason. I mean, we're
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: talking high stakes battles against very quality opponents like you're
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: talking about. So it's a two part question for you here, Ethan.
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: Let's start with the first part of this. What is
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: your biggest concern with the bullpen as we're looking at
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: Red October here.
- 1:03:52Speaker 4: The biggest concern that I would have would be probably
- 1:03:56Speaker 4: how can they handle going back to back dates. I
- 1:04:00Speaker 4: don't want to look at one picture in particular, just
- 1:04:02Speaker 4: because bullpens are so volatile, but how can they handle
- 1:04:05Speaker 4: going back to back days. They've hardly had to go
- 1:04:08Speaker 4: back to back all season, which is obviously a strategy
- 1:04:11Speaker 4: in place to get them ready for October. But once
- 1:04:14Speaker 4: October hits, that strategies out the window. You want your
- 1:04:17Speaker 4: best four or five relievers available every night within reason, obviously,
- 1:04:23Speaker 4: how are they going to handle the back to back
- 1:04:26Speaker 4: with David Robertson, for example, One of our writers today,
- 1:04:30Speaker 4: Smarty Jones, just wrote about, is there an issue coming
- 1:04:33Speaker 4: with David Robertson with his being available back to back days?
- 1:04:37Speaker 4: If not, that's a pretty big right handed arm that's
- 1:04:40Speaker 4: just not going to be there. They need, They need
- 1:04:44Speaker 4: their pitchers to be able to be effective back to
- 1:04:46Speaker 4: back days for however long they go. The Division series,
- 1:04:49Speaker 4: they do have that extra day of rest built in,
- 1:04:52Speaker 4: so you're really only asking one game one to two
- 1:04:55Speaker 4: day off Game three to four day off game five,
- 1:04:58Speaker 4: so it does help a little bit, but at the
- 1:05:01Speaker 4: same time, they have to be able to go on
- 1:05:04Speaker 4: back to back days. That would be my main concern
- 1:05:07Speaker 4: as opposed to looking at one picture.
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: Okay, I think that's fair. Yeah, absolutely, On the flip
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: side of things, what's the one. What's the one aspect
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: of the bullpen that you are least concerned about?
- 1:05:18Speaker 5: Oh, that's easy. I mean we all know what that
- 1:05:20Speaker 5: answer is that.
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: I had to ask out.
- 1:05:24Speaker 4: I mean he answered right back from blowing the save
- 1:05:28Speaker 4: on Monday night, came right back and dominated on Tuesday
- 1:05:30Speaker 4: night and again a back to back, you know, a
- 1:05:32Speaker 4: high stress situlation and just came back and it was
- 1:05:35Speaker 4: like nothing to it.
- 1:05:36Speaker 5: Yep, that's why is it just incredible?
- 1:05:39Speaker 4: I mean, I don't we were talking about this in
- 1:05:41Speaker 4: our own slack. Have they had a better trade deadline
- 1:05:45Speaker 4: as a team since Cliff Lee bringing Lee? I mean,
- 1:05:50Speaker 4: has there been a better one? I don't think there is,
- 1:05:52Speaker 4: right and even you know, Cliff Lee got them to
- 1:05:55Speaker 4: the World Series, so obviously that's the benchmark, you know,
- 1:05:58Speaker 4: that's where that you have to be to surprise surpassed that.
- 1:06:01Speaker 4: But adding Batter and Doran, especially Doran, just put everybody
- 1:06:05Speaker 4: in their place. You know, everybody has slid into a
- 1:06:08Speaker 4: more suitable role for them in that bullpen. Specifically, some
- 1:06:12Speaker 4: people were completely removed from rules, which is what had
- 1:06:16Speaker 4: to happen. And since then, you can see I think
- 1:06:18Speaker 4: it's since October or August first that whole bullpen's been
- 1:06:21Speaker 4: almost untouchable, and it's because of one one player. I mean,
- 1:06:26Speaker 4: when that night thinning starts, you kind of know what
- 1:06:29Speaker 4: you're getting. And that's when was the last time the
- 1:06:31Speaker 4: Phillies have had that?
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: Oh gosh, it's been so.
- 1:06:35Speaker 4: I mean lydgon eight, but when's the last time? I mean,
- 1:06:39Speaker 4: it's just it's been a pleasure. It's honestly, it's been
- 1:06:42Speaker 4: a pleasure to watch, and I'm excited to see what
- 1:06:44Speaker 4: it looks like in October.
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: Absolutely, And a theme we've been talking about on this
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: podcast platform is that Dave Dombrowski really deserves some credit
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: for what he did before the trade deadline with Harrison
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: Bader and with Doran as well. I mean, he really
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: does deserve some credit. So, Buddy, before I let you go,
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: just one last pitch topic in question, because I'm just
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: so excited to see what the pitching is going to
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: do during this postseason. I'm wondering which starting pitcher do
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: you think, well be the most fun to watch during
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: the postseason and the guy that's gonna have the opportunity
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: to really leave his mark historically on this Phillies franchise.
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: If there is one. What are your thoughts.
- 1:07:23Speaker 5: Historically? Yeah, my positive about that one.
- 1:07:25Speaker 4: But the guy outpoint the guy out point at his Ranger,
- 1:07:28Speaker 4: because you've got not just he's since Wheeler has gone down,
- 1:07:33Speaker 4: he's just taken off. He's clearly said I need to
- 1:07:36Speaker 4: step my game up, and he's become the clear number to.
- 1:07:38Speaker 5: Me, the clear number two.
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:07:40Speaker 4: Well, he's also now not just pitching for the Phillies
- 1:07:44Speaker 4: to get to a World Series and win one.
- 1:07:47Speaker 5: He's pitching to show twenty nine other teams.
- 1:07:50Speaker 4: I'm a postseason rock that you can count on when
- 1:07:53Speaker 4: it comes time for free agency. And you know, I'm
- 1:07:56Speaker 4: not worried about twenty twenty six, but if that motivation
- 1:07:59Speaker 4: is going to help him win in twenty twenty five,
- 1:08:01Speaker 4: I'll take it.
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:08:02Speaker 4: Now he has to be that guy that goes five
- 1:08:06Speaker 4: to six innings in every one of his starts and
- 1:08:08Speaker 4: just dominates. If you have Sanchez at the beginning. You know,
- 1:08:12Speaker 4: we're kind of taking Sanchez for granted that he'll be fine,
- 1:08:16Speaker 4: he'll be grand. He likely will be because I don't
- 1:08:19Speaker 4: know about you, but I consider him an ace now yep.
- 1:08:22Speaker 4: But if we've got Ranger taking that other step forward
- 1:08:27Speaker 4: and in the past, they've kind of held him three
- 1:08:29Speaker 4: four innings at a time to maybe once twice through
- 1:08:32Speaker 4: a lineup.
- 1:08:33Speaker 5: If he's able to.
- 1:08:34Speaker 4: Get twice and you know, into a third time through
- 1:08:36Speaker 4: a lineup while still dominating. I mean, now, can any
- 1:08:41Speaker 4: other team in the National League playoff picture match that
- 1:08:45Speaker 4: I don't know, couple that with potentially Lozardo doing the
- 1:08:50Speaker 4: same thing. But I don't know if a long I
- 1:08:52Speaker 4: don't know if he'll have as long a leash as
- 1:08:55Speaker 4: Suarez will in a game. But if you've got those
- 1:08:58Speaker 4: three pitching as they have of late, I there's something
- 1:09:03Speaker 4: special brewing there, something there, good Blues, three Lafties.
- 1:09:07Speaker 5: That's just been something to watch.
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: It really has been. It's gonna be amazing to watch
