- 0:00Hi, I'm Jennifer.
- 0:01And I'm Cam.
- 0:02And you're listening to Coffee In The Park with Jennifer and Cam.
- 0:15Well, good morning, everybody, and welcome to another edition of Coffee In The Park with Jennifer and Cam.
- 0:20And we are coming to you live this morning from the Wall Coffee Roasters in the heart of beautiful downtown Acheson.
- 0:29Jennifer, here we are.
- 0:31Here we are.
- 0:32If, we're in the coffee shop.
- 0:34It's a little quiet this morning.
- 0:35It is a little quiet this morning.
- 0:37But if you do hear some noises in the background, coffee machines whirring, people talking, that kind of thing, it's because we're live at the Wall Coffee Roasters.
- 0:44Hey, Cam, have you tried any of the new fall drinks yet?
- 0:47I did, actually.
- 0:49OK, which one?
- 0:50The other day, I tried the spice one.
- 0:52And?
- 0:53Well, I liked it.
- 0:56It was good.
- 0:57I liked it.
- 0:58It was different.
- 0:59I've never had coffee like that, and it was quite different.
- 1:01It was...
- 1:02yeah, I liked it.
- 1:04Why are you laughing?
- 1:05I did.
- 1:06Because I've never had coffee like that.
- 1:08So it was just like...
- 1:09Well, if I'm not wrong, it's got a little cayenne pepper, is that correct?
- 1:13Yeah, it's got a little kick to it.
- 1:15So it's not just the caffeine that gives you a boot, it's the coffee.
- 1:19But I haven't tried the cinnamon bun one.
- 1:21The cinnamon bun latte or the maple fog.
- 1:24Have you tried either of those?
- 1:26I have not, no.
- 1:27We should, actually.
- 1:27Because both just seem a little too sweet.
- 1:29And I...
- 1:30I agree.
- 1:30I just can't do sweet.
- 1:31But maybe we should just get them to have a taste test and just see.
- 1:34But yeah, no, I mean...
- 1:36I was in here one day and some people came in, there was like five or six of them, and they all ordered the cinnamon bun latte.
- 1:43Really?
- 1:43Yeah.
- 1:44Yeah.
- 1:45Like all of them.
- 1:46They thought it was great.
- 1:47It was amazing.
- 1:48So The Wall doesn't do the pumpkin trend.
- 1:51Nope.
- 1:51But you and I did have our one pumpkin latte of the year.
- 1:56What did you think?
- 1:57I...
- 1:58it's...
- 1:58yeah.
- 1:59It's kind of lost its luster.
- 2:00Well, I don't even think I finished mine.
- 2:02I didn't finish mine either.
- 2:03No, no.
- 2:03Yeah.
- 2:04I used to love it.
- 2:05I know.
- 2:05I don't know what...
- 2:06yeah.
- 2:07Yeah.
- 2:07I don't know.
- 2:08I just can't...
- 2:09This is why...
- 2:10and I admire Michael Wall, the purveyor of the Wall Coffee Roasters.
- 2:15He just bucks the trend.
- 2:16He does.
- 2:16Goes against it.
- 2:17I know.
- 2:18Says, I'm doing spiced lattes and cinnamon bun lattes and maple lattes.
- 2:21There will be no jumping on the pumpkin spice bandwagon.
- 2:24That's right.
- 2:24Yeah.
- 2:25So good for Michael.
- 2:26Yes.
- 2:26But yeah.
- 2:27Anyway, it's good.
- 2:28We should try the others.
- 2:29But before we go any further, we need to tell people that we're coming to you from our sponsor, Wing Snob Canada.
- 2:37Where the wings are fresh, never frozen.
- 2:40That's right.
- 2:4116 flavors.
- 2:42Four rubs.
- 2:42Four rubs.
- 2:43Cornbread, Parmesan fries, all kinds of good stuff.
- 2:47But this week, we actually have...
- 2:51We had a testimonial.
- 2:52A Wing Snob testimonial.
- 2:53We got a text.
- 2:54Yes.
- 2:55Yes, a Wing Snob testimonial from the Calgary location.
- 2:59Okay.
- 3:00And for total transparency, it was from your mom.
- 3:04My mom.
- 3:05That's right.
- 3:05She went to the Wing Snob in Calgary.
- 3:07Listen, she lives in Southern Saskatchewan.
- 3:09Yep.
- 3:10And she went to Calgary and she's with my aunt.
- 3:12And they went to Wing Snob.
- 3:13They went to Wing Snob.
- 3:14Yes.
- 3:14And she said it was fantastic.
- 3:17She loved it.
- 3:17She loved it.
- 3:18See, this is really great, folks.
- 3:19See, I'm telling you, you've got to go to Wing Snob and check it out.
- 3:2110 locations, one in Calgary, obviously.
- 3:24Jennifer's mom went there, one in Grande Prairie and eight in Edmonton.
- 3:28And Wing Snob, it's a great place, great wings, great food.
- 3:32But the fact that Jennifer's mom went, because she heard about it on the podcast and loved it, tells you something.
- 3:39Could you get a better testimonial?
- 3:41No, I agree.
- 3:42I don't think, Mike, if you're listening, she might be a good person to have as a spokesperson. This is it, that's right.
- 3:46For the Wing Snob franchise.
- 3:48But anyway, check out Wing Snob.
- 3:51If you don't know what to do for dinner tonight, check it out and you'll get some great wings.
- 3:55And it is today, today is the very first day of fall.
- 4:00So they say, yes.
- 4:00That's what they say.
- 4:01And it kind of feels like it today.
- 4:03The weather's been really nice, but today feels very fallish.
- 4:06Is that a word?
- 4:07Fallish?
- 4:08It feels that way.
- 4:08It's supposed to get quite cool as we go on into the weekend.
- 4:12And that means that the leaves will really start turning and falling soon.
- 4:16I don't mind that it's turning into sweater weather.
- 4:19You don't mind?
- 4:19I don't.
- 4:20No.
- 4:20Well, yeah, sweater weather is nice, cozy by the fireplace, you know, but fall brings a lot of other really great things like football season. Hockey season.
- 4:30Yeah, you're really excited by football.
- 4:32Oh, I'm so excited.
- 4:33And my Hawks are doing great, two and 0, so far.
- 4:35So this is this is awesome.
- 4:37But yeah, lots happening.
- 4:38I have a football question for you.
- 4:40Yes.
- 4:40OK, I know that the Seattle Seahawks are your team.
- 4:43Yes, they are.
- 4:44The Seattle Seahawks are my team.
- 4:45If you had to pick your second and third team to cheer for?
- 4:50Easy.
- 4:50OK, who?
- 4:51Dallas Cowboys.
- 4:52And why?
- 4:53I like them.
- 4:55Does that, I just like them?
- 4:57I just like them.
- 4:58Well, they're the Dallas Cowboys.
- 5:00OK.
- 5:00They're like, yeehaw, like they're like the team.
- 5:03They're like America's team.
- 5:05Yes.
- 5:05Like, I'm not American, but my birthday is on July 4th.
- 5:08I know.
- 5:09But no, I would, yeah, it would definitely be Dallas.
- 5:12OK, Dallas.
- 5:12And number three?
- 5:13Oh boy, come on now.
- 5:14Probably Kansas City.
- 5:16OK.
- 5:16Yeah.
- 5:16That one's a bit of a controversial one there.
- 5:18I know it is, but I like Kansas City.
- 5:20For a lot of reasons, I like Kansas City, which I won't go into, but I really like them.
- 5:24Yeah.
- 5:24OK.
- 5:25Yeah.
- 5:25Don't go any further.
- 5:26I won't.
- 5:27I won't.
- 5:28I just, you know what?
- 5:29I've just always wondered that question.
- 5:30Yeah.
- 5:31No.
- 5:31Yeah.
- 5:31So yeah, so if the Hawks aren't playing and the Cowboys are playing, I'll cheer for them.
- 5:36If the Cowboys and the Hawks aren't playing, I'll cheer for, cheer for Kansas City.
- 5:41But if the Hawks are playing the Cowboys, I'm cheering for the hawks.
- 5:45If the Hawks are playing Kansas City, I'm cheering for the hawks.
- 5:49That's fair.
- 5:50Yeah.
- 5:50So yeah, that's how it is.
- 5:52But can I just tell you, I just need to say something this morning, doing our podcast.
- 5:57I have a great view right now of the cutest little kid I've ever seen.
- 6:01Who's, look at him.
- 6:02Look at him.
- 6:03He's waving at us.
- 6:04Look at him.
- 6:04Okay.
- 6:05He's adorable.
- 6:05Isn't he adorable?
- 6:07Hi.
- 6:08Hi.
- 6:09See this.
- 6:09Look at that smile.
- 6:11This is when you're coming live from the coffee shop.
- 6:14There you go.
- 6:15See, that's why I say folks, if you hear noise in the background, what a, that's just the est, that made my day.
- 6:22Right there.
- 6:22We could say Audie.
- 6:23We have an audience.
- 6:24We have a little audience.
- 6:25Yeah.
- 6:25He's not sure what's going on, but he's having a good time.
- 6:28Anyway, that's kind of cool.
- 6:29Okay.
- 6:30So fall also is the start of hockey season and you know that.
- 6:34Why?
- 6:35Why do you have that look on your face?
- 6:37Because your son plays hockey.
- 6:42He does.
- 6:42He does.
- 6:43And you're back into hockey.
- 6:45And I'm just not excited about any of this.
- 6:47You can't say that.
- 6:48Yes, I can.
- 6:50How does he feel?
- 6:50Your son.
- 6:51Well, I support him, but I don't support the process.
- 6:55I just want to say this.
- 6:56Folks who are listening today, Jennifer is like the best hockey mom ever.
- 7:04You go everyhwere. You travel the entire province everywhere with your son.
- 7:08Well, that's more baseball for sure.
- 7:11Well, baseball.
- 7:12Yeah.
- 7:12So you're hockey, you're baseball.
- 7:14You are the best sports mom I know.
- 7:17You're amazing.
- 7:17Again, I go to support him.
- 7:19I don't go to support the process.
- 7:21Let's talk about that.
- 7:22So if you see Jennifer at the rink, and you don't know what she looks like, here's how you'll recognize Jennifer.
- 7:31She will be the lady at the far end of the rink with the big parka on with the hood on.
- 7:37Do not go near.
- 7:38You know how you don't go near a bear when it's like- Don't approach.
- 7:40Don't approach.
- 7:41Just don't approach.
- 7:42Yeah.
- 7:43You're not wrong.
- 7:44You're- Well, it's a long season for you.
- 7:47Listen, if I have people listening to this podcast that end up on my team, I'm sorry.
- 7:52I just- She doesn't mean to be that way.
- 7:54She's got a lot going on.
- 7:56That's right.
- 7:58I do.
- 7:59But you are a great sports mom.
- 8:00Well, lot of great.
- 8:01You know, this parents who have kids in sports, it's a big sacrifice.
- 8:05But you know what?
- 8:05There's a lot of drama that goes on in sports.
- 8:07And I- At all levels of sports.
- 8:10People just think it's like professional sports, but all levels of sports have drama.
- 8:13And I just stay out of the drama.
- 8:14Yeah.
- 8:15And I know there's a lot of people listening.
- 8:17You are sports parents or are sports parents, and you know what it's like and you know what we're talking about.
- 8:21So we're not saying anything that's out of the- No, nobody should be shocked by this.
- 8:26No, this is the truth.
- 8:27Yeah.
- 8:28But yeah.
- 8:29So yeah, fall brings on hockey season on all levels.
- 8:33Kids and professional, the Oilers are back and all that kind of stuff.
- 8:37And you know- It's back to school season.
- 8:40Back to school.
- 8:41You know what?
- 8:41It's been a month almost since school started.
- 8:44You know what I heard the other day?
- 8:46It's been a month, you're right, since school started.
- 8:49But in the three weeks the kids have been back to school, they have not had one full week because they've had already PD days, maybe, I don't know, maybe, I think last week was his first full week.
- 9:04But you're right, that's the only full week in September.
- 9:06Other than that, it'll be a four day week.
- 9:09When I went to school, we went to school 12 hours a day, seven days a week.
- 9:14That's what it felt like.
- 9:15I know.
- 9:16Now they get breaks for everything.
- 9:19They do.
- 9:20There's a lot of breaks.
- 9:20PD days.
- 9:22What does PD stand for?
- 9:23I never knew.
- 9:23Professional Development.
- 9:25Yes.
- 9:25PD days, this holiday, that holiday.
- 9:28They've got to take this off.
- 9:29There's a fall break now.
- 9:30A fall break?
- 9:31Yes.
- 9:32A week in November, they get a week off.
- 9:34I only remember spring break and that wasn't until I got to high school.
- 9:38I know.
- 9:38It just- Like, oh man.
- 9:41They're out of school more than they're in school.
- 9:44I know.
- 9:45Makes you kind of...
- 9:45Anyway, I don't want to go back to school, but yeah, that's kind of a good deal, I guess.
- 9:50So yeah, kids are back at school.
- 9:53Christmas is coming because we know this, because Costco has all their Christmas stuff out.
- 10:00They got their trees up.
- 10:01I know.
- 10:02Next, here's the thing.
- 10:03Can I just say this?
- 10:04I love, everybody knows I love Costco.
- 10:06I love it.
- 10:06Cam is, yeah, you do.
- 10:07You are a big Costco supporter.
- 10:09If I have nothing to do, like the average person, if they have nothing to do, they go for a walk or go somewhere.
- 10:14Cam will go walk around Costco.
- 10:15I'll go Costco.
- 10:17I've noticed, and this is what I don't like, the Christmas stuff is right next to the Halloween stuff.
- 10:24I know.
- 10:25Like right next to it.
- 10:26Like here's Christmas tree, here's skeleton Mickey Mouse.
- 10:32I don't really like that.
- 10:33Who buys the skeleton?
- 10:34Listen, if you buy the skeleton Mickey Mouse, let us know.
- 10:37Yeah.
- 10:38I don't know.
- 10:38They have the big giant one at Costco.
- 10:41Because I watched a little kid actually get scared of the skeleton Mickey Mouse.
- 10:46But here's the tree, here's the skeleton Mickey Mouse, here's all the candy for Costco.
- 10:52Here's all the...
- 10:53Do you know what I heard about Costco last year?
- 10:55No.
- 10:56That they actually cut back on the amount of Christmas stuff they were bringing in.
- 10:59Really?
- 11:00Because of the economy.
- 11:01I don't know if that's true.
- 11:03Well, they've started early this year.
- 11:05The tree that I was looking at was $499.
- 11:10All lit.
- 11:11Oh.
- 11:12Yeah.
- 11:13And this has been terrible.
- 11:14Oh boy.
- 11:15Is that a good price?
- 11:16$499?
- 11:17I don't pay...
- 11:18Well, I bought my...
- 11:19I don't think that's awful.
- 11:21You don't think?
- 11:21No, because I thought I saw that same tree for like $999 last year.
- 11:25I think the more expensive ones are still coming.
- 11:27This was just the teaser tree.
- 11:29The teaser.
- 11:30This is the Charlie Brown tree.
- 11:32No, but you know what they do have?
- 11:34They have a full-grinch tree.
- 11:36Like, you know where the bulb hangs on the...
- 11:39They have a big one of those.
- 11:40That's what I would have, but we already have a tree.
- 11:43Have you tried anything new from Costco lately?
- 11:45Any new purchases?
- 11:47Well, I have to think about that because there might have been a few.
- 11:51I know.
- 11:51Yes, I tried...
- 11:52What did I try?
- 11:54No, the chicken's not new.
- 11:56I always get the chicken.
- 11:58The chicken's a good deal.
- 11:59$7.99.
- 12:00Is that what it is?
- 12:01$7 something for a chicken, a whole chicken.
- 12:04There's a controversy about the chicken.
- 12:05I've heard the controversy.
- 12:06But I don't care.
- 12:06I like the chicken.
- 12:07That's fair.
- 12:08Yeah.
- 12:09Have I tried anything?
- 12:10Yeah.
- 12:10Yes.
- 12:11Yes.
- 12:12I tried the new...
- 12:12What do they call them?
- 12:15Crisswaffles?
- 12:16Waffle criss?
- 12:17They're a mix between a croissant and a waffle.
- 12:20And?
- 12:20Oh, are they good?
- 12:21They're fantastic.
- 12:22Oh, I better not show that to my child.
- 12:24He loves a good croissant.
- 12:25Yeah.
- 12:25And you know what?
- 12:26You throw them in the oven, you throw them in the toaster oven, you throw them in the toaster, you throw them in the air fryer.
- 12:31Unbelievable.
- 12:33Totally unbelievable.
- 12:36And you know how I know they're good is because you can always tell at Costco when they have a product and a lot of it's gone.
- 12:43Like people are buying it and people were, they were buying these waffle things like unbelievable.
- 12:48Did you sample it before?
- 12:49No, no, that I, okay, that's a good point to be totally on.
- 12:53Usually I do, but they weren't offering samples, but I just bought it.
- 12:57Well, actually I had them at a friend's house and they were really good.
- 13:01Okay, cause it's a big risk to buy a large pack like that.
- 13:04Can I tell you, I'm going to tell a story.
- 13:05I don't know if I should tell this story about Costco.
- 13:08One time I was buying, it was something nuts of some sort.
- 13:12I'm not really sure what.
- 13:13And I got to the checkout and we're going through it.
- 13:16The lady's going through it and I said, wait, hang on on those a second.
- 13:19I don't know if I should actually buy those.
- 13:21I don't know.
- 13:21And she said to me, don't buy them. The lady at checkout told you not to buy something at Costco?
- 13:24She said, yes, she said try them first because she said, you know what, if you don't like them, then you're stuck with this big bag.
- 13:33And I said, that's absolutely right now.
- 13:36She probably, that's not probably the Costco, yeah, but good for her.
- 13:39And so I didn't buy them and I did try them somewhere else and I didn't like them.
- 13:43So she saved me like 15 bucks or whatever it was.
- 13:46Cause you just ended up throwing it away.
- 13:47So yeah, so that's the latest new thing that I've purchased at Costco.
- 13:52Yeah, you know, I'm always, I love their sample.
- 13:56Lately they've had good samples.
- 13:58I hear the sample department is back out in full force.
- 14:01Oh, some days they have like big, these big displays.
- 14:05The Wonton display was huge.
- 14:08Like six different kinds of Wontons.
- 14:09That's a lot of Wontons.
- 14:10And you gotta keep going back and there's usually quite a line.
- 14:13But if you maneuver it properly, you can like score two or three Wontons at a time.
- 14:17Did you hear the latest?
- 14:19No.
- 14:20Well, it's been rumored for a while, but the sign's officially up.
- 14:24Yes.
- 14:24Stony Plain?
- 14:25Yes.
- 14:26Getting a Costco.
- 14:27For those who, like, we are in beautiful downtown Acheson.
- 14:30And if you go west is Spruce Grove.
- 14:34And then right next to Spruce Grove is Stony Plain.
- 14:36And they're getting a Costco.
- 14:38They are.
- 14:38Yeah.
- 14:39Exciting.
- 14:39That's big news.
- 14:40It is.
- 14:41So I don't know where it puts us in Acheson, because we're kind of in the middle.
- 14:45We could either go to the west end Costco by my house or the new Stony Plain Costco. True.
- 14:50I think I don't know what should be quicker, but we'll figure it out.
- 14:52And I'm sure equally busy.
- 14:54Equally busy.
- 14:55Yeah.
- 14:55I don't think there was a Costco that is not a zoo.
- 14:59To the guy who started Costco, you're amazing.
- 15:03Like, I wonder who that was.
- 15:05There is a guy who started it.
- 15:06Yeah. I'm sure there is.
- 15:06His story is like, it's a really good story.
- 15:09Like, yeah.
- 15:10Now he's laughing.
- 15:11Yeah.
- 15:12He is laughing.
- 15:13A lot.
- 15:14And, but anyway, yeah.
- 15:15So yeah, Costco, you know, and it's a good time of year to go to Costco because they're wanting you to try things and buy things for Christmas.
- 15:22So it's a good time of year to go.
- 15:23Oh yeah.
- 15:24That's what I say.
- 15:25Their men's clothing, I feel has...
- 15:27Gone down, hey?
- 15:27Slipped a little, yeah.
- 15:28Yeah, it used to be.
- 15:29Yeah, I used to buy a lot there.
- 15:30I agree.
- 15:31I don't disagree.
- 15:32I don't think I'm buying as much there.
- 15:34But there's more women's clothing than men's clothing at the Costco.
- 15:37Do you know what I miss?
- 15:38No.
- 15:38About Costco.
- 15:39What's that?
- 15:40Remember how they used to have the giant book table and you could buy books?
- 15:43Yes.
- 15:44They don't have it anymore and I'm so sad.
- 15:47I agree with you because you and I both, we like the actual book.
- 15:51Yes.
- 15:52Let's talk about that because everything's gone to an ebook.
- 15:56I know, digital.
- 15:56Digital.
- 15:57And I don't like it.
- 15:58I sit in front of a screen all day.
- 15:59I don't want to read my book on a screen.
- 16:01It's nice to have an actual book.
- 16:02Yeah, and I agree with you 100%.
- 16:05And I know that because I had a huge library, massive library.
- 16:09It got a bit of a pain every time we moved because we had to move this massive library.
- 16:13But if I had a choice between reading on my tablet and reading the book, I want the book.
- 16:20And I used to, I could go to Costco and I'm not kidding, spend half an hour in that book pile.
- 16:25Yeah, absolutely.
- 16:26And they always had the latest and greatest.
- 16:30And way cheaper.
- 16:31Yeah, way cheaper.
- 16:32Way cheaper.
- 16:33And like the day it was released, they had it and you go there buy it for half the price that you bought it at one of the other bookstores.
- 16:39That makes me sad.
- 16:40I know, me too.
- 16:41Me too.
- 16:41Maybe we should write the guy.
- 16:44We'll find his name and we'll write him.
- 16:46And I know they did it because everybody's going to ebooks, but I don't know.
- 16:51They say at night you're not even supposed to look at your screen.
- 16:54Well, right?
- 16:54So why are you supposed to ebook a guy?
- 16:55Right before you go to bed.
- 16:56I know.
- 16:56You're supposed to like, that's not good.
- 16:58I'll always be a physical book person.
- 17:00Yeah, I agree.
- 17:00Yeah, I think it's our generation and the new generation, they don't even know what a book is.
- 17:05They just have a tablet or a phone or one of them things.
- 17:08Trust me as I get my child and I'm like, don't you want to read?
- 17:10And he laughs at me and walks away.
- 17:11Yeah.
- 17:11I know.
- 17:12It's like.
- 17:12No.
- 17:13You know, that's funny because when I was a kid and I got my allowance or whatever, I could hardly wait to go.
- 17:19We had a used bookstore down the street from us called Wee Book Inn.
- 17:23And I would go to Wee Book Inn.
- 17:24I know.
- 17:25I would go to Wee Book Inn and I would get my allowance and I would buy like Charlie Brown or, you know, Hardy Boys book or something like that or a comic book or something.
- 17:36And I know they had pictures, but you had to read.
- 17:38And so now it's just the fun of that is gone.
- 17:43Well, I lived in a small town.
- 17:44We did not have a bookstore.
- 17:46So the outing to the big city was great.
- 17:49And I saved up my money.
- 17:50And I don't care if people call me a nerd because I liked to go to the bookstore.
- 17:53Yeah.
- 17:54The series I read.
- 17:55Yes.
- 17:56Well, there were two series I read.
- 17:57When I was younger, it was Nancy Drew.
- 17:58Oh, Nancy Drew.
- 18:00Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys.
- 18:01Yes.
- 18:01The other one.
- 18:02And it was, you have to be a certain generation to even know what I'm talking about.
- 18:07Yes.
- 18:07Sweet Valley High.
- 18:08Sweet Valley High.
- 18:10Come on.
- 18:11Yes.
- 18:12What happened to those Sweet Valley High books?
- 18:14Because I had them all.
- 18:15Do you still have them? I think.
- 18:16Because they might be worth something.
- 18:18They're gone.
- 18:18Yeah.
- 18:19They might be.
- 18:19Yeah.
- 18:20See that?
- 18:20See, the other thing about that is I remember like when I was in grade one to six, once a month, we got a flyer from, I think it was called the Scholastic Book Fair.
- 18:31Yes.
- 18:31Yes.
- 18:32And you got to order your books.
- 18:34And my mom let me order all the books I wanted.
- 18:37That was the best.
- 18:38Yeah.
- 18:38And that's where I started reading Curious George.
- 18:42And I got all the Curious George books.
- 18:44And you could hardly wait to A, get that flyer, and B, our teachers would let us in the classroom spend some time picking our books.
- 18:53And then we'd take it home and our parents would approve, my mom would approve it, bring it back to school, hand it in.
- 18:58And within a week, the box arrived and the teacher would distribute the books.
- 19:03It was the best.
- 19:05You know, my poor son in elementary, as he got into the older grades and went to parent teacher interviews, because that's when they would have the Scholastic Book Fair, I'd drag him into the library just so I could reminisce.
- 19:14Just so that you could look around, hoping he might pick a book or two.
- 19:19He didn't.
- 19:19Yeah, no.
- 19:20But I really liked him.
- 19:21Yeah, those days are gone, I'm afraid.
- 19:23I know.
- 19:23What do you say about that?
- 19:24I don't know.
- 19:26It's, you know, now we're in front of the screen, the TV, the tablet.
- 19:29Hey, let's talk about TV for a minute.
- 19:31TV.
- 19:32Yeah.
- 19:33What are you watching?
- 19:33What did I?
- 19:34You told me to watch a show called Westies.
- 19:37I know.
- 19:37What are you thinking of this?
- 19:38I love it because I love those mob shows.
- 19:41It's a mob show.
- 19:42It's pretty good.
- 19:42And it's based on the real New York Hell's Kitchen mob.
- 19:46It is.
- 19:46Like it's awesome.
- 19:47I really love it.
- 19:48I know.
- 19:49Yeah.
- 19:50I really like it.
- 19:51It's great.
- 19:52And plus I've been to New York a number of times.
- 19:55I've actually worked in Hell's Kitchen area.
- 19:57Not that I recognize any of it.
- 19:59It's just like, I feel like I've been there.
- 20:01I've been there.
- 20:02Well, you know what's really funny is you probably subscribe to as many streaming platforms as I do.
- 20:09And you scroll through and you're like, there's nothing to watch.
- 20:12TV's getting so, I don't know what to say.
- 20:15Yeah.
- 20:16I don't know what to say.
- 20:17It's, I'm always thankful for football season and stuff like that.
- 20:21But when that's not on, there's just not much to watch.
- 20:25No.
- 20:25Anymore.
- 20:26I don't know.
- 20:27Out of the thousands of shows, most of it was just like garbage.
- 20:31Isn't that the truth, right?
- 20:32You just said it.
- 20:33We subscribe to all these platforms.
- 20:35And there are days, okay, this is a first world problem without a doubt.
- 20:40There are days you can sit there with your, I don't know about you, with my remote control and I can scroll through the bazillion channels I have and not find something I wanna watch.
- 20:50Isn't that sad?
- 20:51What have we become?
- 20:52That is such a first world problem.
- 20:53Isn't it?
- 20:54Oh, it's terrible.
- 20:55It's absolutely terrible.
- 20:56And I don't know what that, and listeners, many of you are nodding your heads right now.
- 21:01I know.
- 21:01You're the same.
- 21:03You just, unless you're really, I'm not into all the cooking shows, I'm not into all, you can only renovate so many homes.
- 21:11This is the thing.
- 21:12Isn't that the truth?
- 21:13Before that, it all starts to look the same.
- 21:15Now they're doing, I just saw one advertised the other day, a whole town renovation.
- 21:20First, it was just a couple rooms in a house.
- 21:23Then they did celebrity renovations.
- 21:24Celebrity renovations.
- 21:26Then they did big house, then castle renovations.
- 21:30Now they're doing a whole town renovation.
- 21:32They're running out of things to renovate.
- 21:34What's next?
- 21:34Yeah, they are.
- 21:35Exactly.
- 21:36So, I can't watch any, plus I'm not a home renovation guy, so I don't really care, and so you can't watch that.
- 21:43So, yeah, you know, I love, I love like the History Channel, but they repeat so much.
- 21:49There is a lot of repeat.
- 21:51I love the animal shows.
- 21:53Some of them are good.
- 21:54I can't watch the bug ones or the snake ones, but I love like the lions and stuff like that.
- 21:59Like the National Geographic ones?
- 22:00Yeah, those are good.
- 22:01Those are good.
- 22:02But yeah, some days there's just nothing on.
- 22:05It's pathetic.
- 22:06Actually, that's pathetic.
- 22:08You know what else I can't watch any more these days?
- 22:10What's that?
- 22:10The news.
- 22:11Agreed?
- 22:12I can't.
- 22:13Agreed.
- 22:14I actually, last night, I'm going to be honest.
- 22:16It's funny you say that because last night, I was sitting there thinking, I think I'm going to unsubscribe to the news package.
- 22:23Yeah.
- 22:23Because on my cable, I have a package that has all, you know, like CNN, Fox.
- 22:28All the news.
- 22:28I think I'm going to unsubscribe.
- 22:30Right.
- 22:30First of all, it's not news anymore.
- 22:32It's just commentary on the news.
- 22:35It's commentary.
- 22:36I just need the news.
- 22:37What's happening?
- 22:38That's it.
- 22:38Overdone.
- 22:39But there's no good news.
- 22:41There's no good news.
- 22:42No.
- 22:42No.
- 22:43If I was a billionaire, I'd start the Good News Channel.
- 22:47But I don't know if anybody would listen because we all get hooked on the bad news.
- 22:51It's like, yeah.
- 22:51But why can't we tell good news?
- 22:53I agree.
- 22:53We need a little good news.
- 22:55If anyone, we should start a GoFundMe for a billion dollars because that's what you'd need to start like a big news company and just tell good news stories.
- 23:03Just tell good news stories.
- 23:04Yeah.
- 23:06Right?
- 23:07It's enough crappy news in the world.
- 23:08No, there's enough.
- 23:09It is.
- 23:09It's all over the world and it's everywhere.
- 23:11It's just we're getting, I hate to say it this way, we're getting sucked down the pipe.
- 23:16It's just like there's nothing good.
- 23:19But there's so many good things happening.
- 23:20There are.
- 23:21We just, all we hear about is the bad.
- 23:23The negative.
- 23:25Anyway, I agree with you 100 percent on that.
- 23:27I think I might cancel that block of, save five bucks a month or something on that and get something else.
- 23:35Oh, and I did subscribe to a new channel called The Deja Vu.
- 23:39Oh, I like the Deja Vu.
- 23:40Do you have Deja Vu? I do.
- 23:41Because you get the Andy Griffith show.
- 23:45Okay, now we're dating ourselves.
- 23:47You get the Beverly Hillbillies.
- 23:49You get Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley.
- 23:52I know, the classics.
- 23:53You get all these great old shows that are just great.
- 23:57They're just great.
- 23:58Yeah, it's a good channel.
- 23:59Yeah, so I watch a lot of that.
- 24:01Brings back memories.
- 24:02Brings back memories.
- 24:03I used to watch those when I went to the States on vacation.
- 24:07They would have them on the TV, and then I'd sit in the hotel room and watch them for hours.
- 24:11And I'd get in trouble because I'm not out doing what I'm supposed to be doing because I'm watching those shows.
- 24:15Now I can get them right here in my own house.
- 24:18So I'm pretty happy about that.
- 24:20It's good.
- 24:21I know.
- 24:22The other thing.
- 24:23Yeah.
- 24:24It's got to end soon.
- 24:25What's that?
- 24:26Construction.
- 24:28Road construction.
- 24:29It's like people.
- 24:31I can't anymore.
- 24:33This is the only good thing about winter coming, is they stop road construction.
- 24:37And it's everywhere.
- 24:38Everywhere.
- 24:39Like everywhere.
- 24:40I'm pretty sure.
- 24:40I can't even get out of my neighborhood.
- 24:43Exactly.
- 24:44I'm pretty sure every street in the city has construction.
- 24:49Every street, some kind of construction.
- 24:52Like I don't understand.
- 24:53I don't understand either.
- 24:54No, I just don't get it.
- 24:55And it's annoying and it's backing up traffic and it's causing problems.
- 24:59And it's just, oh, I just can't deal with it.
- 25:02I just, I think I need to move somewhere smaller.
- 25:06And they'll have construction.
- 25:08They'll have construction because they're growing.
- 25:11So they have to build out their infrastructure. That's right cause everybody's moving.
- 25:13Oh, my shattered nerves.
- 25:15I agree with you though.
- 25:16What used to take like five minutes to get somewhere now takes like an hour and a half.
- 25:20It's unbelievable.
- 25:22I can't deal with it.
- 25:23It's too much.
- 25:24No, it's too much.
- 25:25And is it necessary?
- 25:27Is it necessary?
- 25:29Could you not focus, excuse me, on the potholes?
- 25:32Just focus on the potholes.
- 25:36Well, the other thing, and you and I talked about this.
- 25:39Now, in beautiful downtown Acheson, we have two highways that we can leave.
- 25:4416 and 16A.
- 25:4516 and 16A.
- 25:47Have you noticed the traffic on 16A these days?
- 25:51The trucks.
- 25:52There never used to be big, big semi trucks.
- 25:55Now, it's loaded with semis.
- 25:56I hate it.
- 25:57Loaded.
- 25:59I think I've brought this up before.
- 26:01I feel I need to bring it up again and maybe start a campaign on it.
- 26:04When you read the driver's manual from cover to cover, which everyone should read, there is a section in the driver's manual where it talks about slower traffic, keep right.
- 26:16Yes.
- 26:18They put that in there for a reason.
- 26:20The reason is slower traffic should keep right, but people miss that spot.
- 26:26And so both lanes are now slow lanes.
- 26:28They are now slow lanes.
- 26:30Yes.
- 26:30And I'm not talking about doing 180 km an hour.
- 26:33I'm just saying slower traffic, keep right.
- 26:36If you look in your rear view mirror and you see there's a backup of traffic behind you, you're going to slow, move over, let them pass.
- 26:43But I'm finding that both lanes are just jam packed.
- 26:47I know, jammed, jammed.
- 26:49And they're not doing the speed limit.
- 26:50They're not doing the speed limit.
- 26:51And somebody sees something on the side of the road and they slow down and everybody slows down.
- 26:56And it's just people.
- 26:57It's about flow, flow, keeping the flow.
- 27:00That's the problem.
- 27:01There's no flow.
- 27:02There's no flow.
- 27:04Anywhere you're driving, there's no flow.
- 27:05There's no flow.
- 27:06We're going to start the no flow campaign.
- 27:09Listen, you went to Calgary a couple weeks ago and you said it was just awful.
- 27:12Couldn't deal with it.
- 27:14There was a road, what do they call it?
- 27:15The new Stony Trail.
- 27:17Yeah, Stony Trail.
- 27:18When I first started using the Stony Trail, there was nobody on it.
- 27:21Nobody, could just whiz down the Stony Trail.
- 27:23It was beautiful.
- 27:24It was a nice drive.
- 27:25Now, the Stony Trail packed, packed.
- 27:29I didn't like it.
- 27:30But I'm going to say, and this might be controversial.
- 27:32Yes.
- 27:33I think Stony Trail was far better designed than the Anthony Henday.
- 27:36No, I agree with you 100%.
- 27:38Because they had forethought to know that it's going to be busy, so they built more lanes.
- 27:42There's more lanes.
- 27:43The Henday has...
- 27:45Not enough lanes.
- 27:46They're like adding a new lane every year because, and then that slows traffic down because it's construction.
- 27:51And it's like, are you serious?
- 27:52Like seriously.
- 27:53There's no winning.
- 27:55I know.
- 27:56What's funny is we talked about all the negativity in the news and here we are talking about all the negativity.
- 28:02But these are just real things.
- 28:04This is life.
- 28:05Well, this is something everybody faces every day.
- 28:09But there are good things.
- 28:10Yeah.
- 28:11Like Thanksgiving is coming up.
- 28:12Thanksgiving is coming up.
- 28:13And that means turkey.
- 28:14I know.
- 28:15But I hear you're not getting the turkey this year.
- 28:18I buy the turkey.
- 28:20I want to gift my family the turkey.
- 28:22So I usually buy the turkey for my family because they do so much for me and for us.
- 28:27And they like.
- 28:28So my gift at Thanksgiving is to give them the turkey.
- 28:31However, my cousin this year, she's going to get the turkey.
- 28:35I'll pay for the turkey, but I don't have to get it.
- 28:37You don't have to go in and get it.
- 28:38No, because we have to buy like a 35, 36 pounder for our family. That's a big turkey.
- 28:43So but she knows somebody.
- 28:44She lives out on the farm.
- 28:46She knows somebody.
- 28:46I'll just send her the money and she'll get the turkey.
- 28:49So, yeah.
- 28:50Deep fry?
- 28:51I don't know if we're deep frying it this year.
- 28:53I don't know.
- 28:53That's a good question.
- 28:55I need to inquire.
- 28:56Shirley, I know you're listening.
- 28:58Give me a text or a buzz.
- 28:59I need to know.
- 29:00It's important.
- 29:01Yeah, it is because I love the deep.
- 29:03Oh, when Chuck deep fries that turkey, I'm telling you, there's nothing better.
- 29:07It's unbelievable.
- 29:09Most people, deep fried turkey, no, I'm telling you, unless you've tried it, don't knock it.
- 29:14I think you have to know what you're doing.
- 29:15It could be a little dangerous.
- 29:16Chuck knows, he knows, he's learnt the technique.
- 29:19You cut the wings and the legs off and you deep fry them separately and you just put the turkey in.
- 29:25Oh, my shattered nerves.
- 29:27It's like dining.
- 29:28A little crispy on the outside.
- 29:30Because he puts, I don't know what he puts on the skin, but it's unbelievable.
- 29:34Oh, it's unbelievable.
- 29:36And then with the potatoes and the stuffing and the cranberry, and I'm really looking forward to Thanksgiving this year.
- 29:41Now you're hungry.
- 29:42Yeah, I am.
- 29:43Actually, I didn't have any breakfast, but I am really hungry.
- 29:46Yeah, I can hardly wait.
- 29:47And I love Thanksgiving and I love being with my family.
- 29:49We're going to the farm, which is always fun.
- 29:51Yeah.
- 29:51Yeah.
- 29:52And you?
- 29:53To be determined.
- 29:54To be, TBD.
- 29:55TBD.
- 29:56Yeah, TBD.
- 29:57Yeah.
- 29:57But I like Thanksgiving.
- 29:58It's a nice time.
- 29:59Plus, it's a Monday off, so that's always nice.
- 30:01And football?
- 30:02And, oh, no, no, no.
- 30:04That's US.
- 30:05US.
- 30:06US.
- 30:06Thanksgiving is a great football day.
- 30:08And we celebrate that here where I work, the company I work for, quite often.
- 30:12We'll get people together in the boardroom and order in Swiss Chalet on US.
- 30:17Thanksgiving and watch football.
- 30:18Listen, I heard there's a fire drill going on today at the office.
- 30:21That's what we heard. That's why we're not over there.
- 30:24The boss came over here to make a phone call because the fire drill.
- 30:28Fire drill's happening.
- 30:2810 o'clock.
- 30:29Oh, it's 1017.
- 30:30I wonder if it happened already.
- 30:31It's got to be over.
- 30:32Yeah, so but he's over here somewhere having a phone call because he couldn't be interrupted by the fire drill.
- 30:37So it's like, wow, that's actually a first.
- 30:41I didn't know if there was there's lots going on.

- 31:10Yeah, we are.
- 31:10We're, yeah, we are.
- 31:12I don't know what it is.
- 31:13I'm not sure yet.
- 31:14I haven't, I've tried to self-diagnose.
- 31:16I'm trying a new thing.
- 31:17I'm trying tart cherry gummies because it's supposed to be good for your heart, for your memory and to help you sleep.
- 31:26And? I guess you just started taking it.
- 31:26Well, I took two last night.
- 31:29It's too soon to tell.
- 31:30Didn't help.
- 31:31Not one bit.
- 31:31It's too early.
- 31:33I didn't sleep.
- 31:34It wasn't.
- 31:35But anyway, but the gummies are good.
- 31:37They taste good.
- 31:38Yeah, they taste good.
- 31:39Like they're really good.
- 31:40I've never, you know, I've never been much of a gummy guy, but I'm feeling like I might move in that direction.
