• 0:02
Welcome to Bible Chat, where we have devotional conversations
• 0:06
rooted in Scripture and relevant for today, January 20th.
• 0:11
Watch your steps. Have you ever agreed to
• 0:13
something in the moment and instantly wished you could
• 0:15
rewind? Maybe you said yes because
• 0:18
everyone was watching, or you didn't want to disappoint
• 0:21
someone, or you just didn't want to think too hard about it.
• 0:24
At first, it felt harmless. Later, it felt heavy.
• 0:28
Life has a way of teaching us that quick decisions can come
• 0:30
with long consequences. Proverbs chapter 6, verses one
• 0:34
to three, speaks straight into that reality.
• 0:37
It warns about making careless commitments and getting tangled
• 0:40
up in promises you didn't fully think through.
• 0:43
The message is clear. Pay attention to where your
• 0:45
steps are taking you. God isn't trying to scare you.
• 0:48
He's trying to protect you. He knows how easily pressure
• 0:52
people pleasing or fear of missing out can trap us.
• 0:55
Wisdom often sounds like slowing down, asking better questions,
• 0:59
and refusing to rush into things just because everyone else is.
• 1:03
But what if you already stepped into something you regret?
• 1:06
That's where Psalm 9 brings comfort.
• 1:08
Verse 9 says the Lord is a stronghold for the oppressed, a
• 1:12
stronghold in times of trouble. God doesn't abandoned you when
• 1:15
you make a mistake. He becomes your refuge when you
• 1:18
feel trapped by a bad decision, overwhelmed by pressure, or
• 1:22
unsure how to untangle what you've gotten into.
• 1:24
God is not standing far away shaking his head.
• 1:27
He is close. He is a safe place.
• 1:30
He is strong enough to help you find a way forward.
• 1:33
Then Matthew chapter 17 brings everything into focus.
• 1:37
Jesus is transfigured on the mountain and God speaks audibly
• 1:40
from a bright cloud saying, This is my beloved son, listen to
• 1:43
him. Out of all the voices competing
• 1:46
for your attention, friends, culture, emotions, fear,
• 1:49
expectations. God points to 1 and says, listen
• 1:52
to him. Not listen to the noise, not
• 1:55
listen to the pressure, listen to Jesus.
• 1:57
Watching your steps doesn't mean living scared or overthinking
• 2:01
everything. It means learning to pause.
• 2:04
It means inviting God into your decisions before you commit
• 2:07
instead of after you regret. It means letting Jesus shape how
• 2:10
you respond when you're rushed, tempted, or unsure.
• 2:14
Wisdom grows when we slow down enough to hear Him.
• 2:17
You don't have to get every decision right to walk with God,
• 2:20
but you do have to stay willing to listen.
• 2:22
When you tune your heart to Jesus, your steps become
• 2:25
steadier. And even when you stumble, God
• 2:27
  remains your stronghold. Let's pray.
• 2:30
Heavenly Father, thank you for caring about the choices I make
• 2:33
and the direction of my life. Help me slow down and think
• 2:37
wisely before I commit myself to things.
• 2:39
Teach me to listen to Jesus above every other voice, and
• 2:43
when I feel trapped, overwhelmed or unsure, remind me that you
• 2:46
are my stronghold and my safe place.
• 2:48
Guide my steps and lead me in your wisdom in Jesus name, Amen.
• 2:53

• 4:12
Bible reading plan. Proverbs chapter 6 verses one to
• 4:17
five World English Bible. My son, if you have become
• 4:21
collateral for your neighbor, if you have struck your hands and
• 4:23
pledge for a stranger, you are trapped by the words of your
• 4:26
mouth. You are ensnared with the words
• 4:28
of your mouth. Do this now, my son, and deliver
• 4:31
yourself. Since you have come into the
• 4:33
hand of your neighbor, go humble yourself.
• 4:36
Press your plea with your neighbor.
• 4:37
Give no sleep to your eyes, nor slumber to your eyelids.
• 4:41
Free yourself like a gazelle from the hand of the hunter,
• 4:43
like a bird from the snare of the Fowler.
• 4:46
Psalm Chapter 9 World English Bible for the chief musician set
• 4:50
to the death of the sun, A Psalm by David I will give thanks to
• 4:54
Yahweh with my whole heart. I will tell of all your
• 4:57
marvelous works. I will be glad and rejoice in
• 5:00
you. I will sing praise to your name
• 5:02
almost high. When my enemies turn back, they
• 5:05
stumble and perish in your presence.
• 5:07
For you have maintained my just 'cause you sit on the throne,
• 5:10
judging righteously. You have rebuked the nations.
• 5:13
You have destroyed the wicked. You have blotted out their name
• 5:16
forever and ever. The enemy is overtaken by
• 5:19
endless ruin. The very memory of the cities
• 5:22
which you have overthrown has perished.
• 5:24
But Yahweh reigns forever. He has prepared His throne for
• 5:27
judgment. He will judge the world in
• 5:30
righteousness. He will administer judgment to
• 5:32
the peoples in uprightness. Yahweh will also be a high tower
• 5:36
for the oppressed, a high tower in times of trouble.
• 5:39
Those who know Your name will put their trust in you, for you
• 5:42
Yahweh, have not forsaken those who seek You.
• 5:45
Sing praises to Yahweh who dwells in Zion and declare among
• 5:48
the people what He has done, for he who Avengers blood remembers
• 5:52
them. He doesn't forget the cry of the
• 5:54
afflicted. Have mercy on me, Yahweh, See my
• 5:57
affliction by those who hate me, and lift me up from the gates of
• 6:00
death, that I may show all of Your praise.
• 6:03
I will rejoice in Your salvation in the gates of the daughter of
• 6:06
Zion. The nations have sunk down in
• 6:09
the pit that they made in the net which they hid.
• 6:11
Their own foot is taken. Yahweh has made Himself known.
• 6:15
He has executed judgment. The wicked is snared by the work
• 6:18
  of His own hands. Meditation.
• 6:20
Selah. The wicked shall be turned back
• 6:23
to Sheol. Even all the nations that forget
• 6:25
God. For the needy shall not always
• 6:27
be forgotten, nor the hope of the poor perish forever.
• 6:31
Arise, Yahweh, don't let man prevail.
• 6:33
Let the nations be judged in your sight.
• 6:35
Put them in fear. Yahweh let the nations know that
• 6:38
  they are only men. Selah.
• 6:40
Matthew Chapter 17 World English Bible After six days, Jesus took
• 6:46
with him Peter, James and John his brother, and brought them up
• 6:49
into a high mountain by themselves.
• 6:51
He was changed before them. His face shone like the sun, and
• 6:55
his garments became as white as the light.
• 6:57
Behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with
• 7:00
him. Peter answered and said to
• 7:02
Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here.
• 7:05
If you want, let's make 3 tents here, one for you, one for
• 7:09
Moses, and 1:00 for Elijah. While he was still speaking,
• 7:12
behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them.
• 7:15
Behold, a voice came out of the cloud saying, This is my beloved
• 7:18
son in whom I am well pleased, Listen to him.
• 7:22
When the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces and
• 7:24
were very afraid. Jesus came and touched them and
• 7:27
said, get up and don't be afraid.
• 7:29
Lifting up their eyes, they saw no one except Jesus alone.
• 7:33
As they were coming down from the mountain.
• 7:35
Jesus commanded them, saying, Don't tell anyone what you saw
• 7:38
until the Son of Man has risen from the dead.
• 7:41
His disciples asked him, saying, Then why do the scribes say that
• 7:45
Elijah must come first? Jesus answered them, Elijah
• 7:48
indeed comes first and will restore all things.
• 7:51
But I tell you that Elijah has come already, and they didn't
• 7:54
recognize him, but did to him whatever they wanted to.
• 7:58
Even so, the Son of Man will also suffer by them.
• 8:01
Then the disciples understood that he spoke to them of John
• 8:04
the Baptizer. When they came to the multitude,
• 8:07
a man came to him, kneeling down to him and saying, Lord, have
• 8:11
mercy on my son, for he is epileptic and suffers
• 8:14
grievously, for he often falls into the fire and often into the
• 8:17
water. So I brought him to your
• 8:19
disciples, and they could not cure him.
• 8:22
Jesus answered, Faithless and perverse generation, how long
• 8:26
will I be with you? How long will I bear with you?
• 8:28
Bring him here to me. Jesus rebuked the demon and it
• 8:32
went out of him, and the boy was cured from that hour.
• 8:35
Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, why weren't
• 8:38
we able to cast it out? He said to them, because of your
• 8:41
unbelief. For most certainly I tell you,
• 8:43
if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will tell this
• 8:46
mountain. Move from here to there and it
• 8:49
will move and nothing will be impossible for you.
• 8:52
But this kind doesn't go out except by prayer and fasting.
• 8:56
While they were staying in Galilee, Jesus said to them, the
• 8:59
Son of Man is about to be delivered up into the hands of
• 9:02
men, and they will kill him, and the third day he will be raised
• 9:05
  up. They were exceedingly sorry.
• 9:08
When they had come to Capernaum, those who collected the
• 9:10
Didrachma coins came to Peter and said, Doesn't your teacher
• 9:13
pay the Didrachma? He said yes.
• 9:16
When he came into the house, Jesus anticipated him saying,
• 9:19
What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the
• 9:22
earth receive toll or tribute from their children or from
• 9:25
strangers? Peter said to him from
• 9:28
strangers. Jesus said to him, therefore the
• 9:31
children are exempt. But lest we cause them to
• 9:34
stumble, go to the sea, cast a hook and take up the first fish
• 9:37
that comes up. When you have opened its mouth,
• 9:40
you will find a stater coin. Take that and give it to them
• 9:43
for me and you. Thanks for joining us on Bible
