- 0:00Speaker 1: Hi, it's Phil Henry with another Radio Archive Hour from
- 0:02Speaker 1: the Hall of Fame Phil Henry Radio Show and philhenryshow.com.
- 0:05Speaker 1: Dave Oliver is back on because he watches horror movies
- 0:09Speaker 1: as a training tool. You know, Dave wants to be
- 0:11Speaker 1: a part of what he calls the greatest police force
- 0:13Speaker 1: in the world, LAPD. So in order for him to
- 0:16Speaker 1: be able to handle all the hardcore stuff he's going
- 0:18Speaker 1: to see, he watches lots of horror movies like I
- 0:21Speaker 1: don't know, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Part Two, Resident Evil, you know,
- 0:27Speaker 1: some pretty gory movies. And he figures watching movies is
- 0:30Speaker 1: going to make him ready for the police.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Dave Oliva is a young man who is studying to
- 0:35Speaker 2: be a police officer. He is taking criminal justice at L.A.
- 0:39Speaker 2: Canyon College, eventually wants to get his associate of arts degree,
- 0:44Speaker 2: transfer to UCLA, and then eventually go to the Los
- 0:46Speaker 2: Angeles Police Academy.
- 0:47Speaker 3: And he joins us on our Newsmaker line.
- 0:49Speaker 2: And you, are working on a paper, it's kind of interesting, Dave,
- 0:53Speaker 2: as part of a sociology class?
- 0:56Speaker 4: Yes, sir. That's my sociology one class, which is the
- 1:00Speaker 4: paper I'm working on right now has to do with
- 1:02Speaker 4: why women, in being a police officer, in choosing your
- 1:07Speaker 4: partner for life, in choosing a wife, why women are
- 1:09Speaker 4: afraid mostly of strong men, especially men who want to
- 1:12Speaker 4: be LAPD or police.
- 1:15Speaker 3: That women are afraid of them?
- 1:17Speaker 4: Yes, sir. That seems to be my experience. And I
- 1:21Speaker 4: kind of got a little bit of a personal story
- 1:25Speaker 4: to tell because one of the people in my class,
- 1:29Speaker 4: a young lady by the name of Annette, who I,
- 1:31Speaker 4: you know, was doing, did some papers with her. I
- 1:33Speaker 4: did a project with her last quarter, and we hit
- 1:36Speaker 4: it off real good. You know, I like talking to her,
- 1:38Speaker 4: and she's also, or at least she did express to
- 1:41Speaker 4: me that she wanted to be a member of the LAPD.
- 1:45Speaker 4: All right.
- 1:46Speaker 2: So this paper is interesting from the standpoint of not
- 1:50Speaker 2: only are you studying criminal justice, law enforcement, but also
- 1:53Speaker 2: in a sociological sense, who makes a good partner for
- 1:57Speaker 2: a police officer?
- 1:58Speaker 4: Well, yeah, it's part of my teacher in that class,
- 2:01Speaker 4: a professor by the name of Mr. Adams, who's a
- 2:04Speaker 4: former police officer himself, you know, and he says it's important.
- 2:09Speaker 4: And so I tried an experiment this past weekend. One
- 2:13Speaker 4: of the things that I think is important to help
- 2:16Speaker 4: get yourself ready for the terrible realities that you're going
- 2:19Speaker 4: to face a police officer, I'll give you an example.
- 2:22Speaker 4: It's not a big thing, but I can watch like
- 2:25Speaker 4: Friday the 13th or Resident Evil or something like that.
- 2:29Speaker 4: I can watch that from beginning to end, okay, without
- 2:32Speaker 4: even having to avert my eyes or to look away
- 2:35Speaker 4: or any of that. And one of the reasons is
- 2:37Speaker 4: because I want to be LAPD, and I recognize there's
- 2:39Speaker 4: going to be some very terrible things that I will
- 2:41Speaker 4: have to witness and something that I want to prepare
- 2:43Speaker 4: myself for, you know. So what I'm able to do
- 2:46Speaker 4: now is I've conditioned myself to sit through most, probably
- 2:49Speaker 4: the most, you know, graphic, like, horror movies ever without flinching.
- 2:54Speaker 4: I can watch Resident Evil. I can watch Friday the 13th.
- 2:57Speaker 4: I can watch Subspecies. I can watch Subspecies 2. I
- 3:00Speaker 4: can watch Scarface, Psycho, Halloween 2, Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2,
- 3:04Speaker 4: and so on, and so on, and so on. And
- 3:06Speaker 4: I can watch those movies over and over again. and
- 3:10Speaker 4: I never flinch, nor do I show no fear, and
- 3:14Speaker 4: I'm not hiding my eyes or something like that.
- 3:16Speaker 2: All right, so you mentioned to me on Saturday night
- 3:19Speaker 2: you showed some of these movies at your apartment.
- 3:22Speaker 4: Yes, sir. It's interesting because of this young lady. I
- 3:26Speaker 4: invited her over.
- 3:27Speaker 3: All right, now you invited this girl over. Did you
- 3:28Speaker 3: know she had a boyfriend? No, I did not know that.
- 3:30Speaker 3: She told me that she had a boyfriend, and I felt.
- 3:39Speaker 4: You know, kind of, it was a shock to me
- 3:41Speaker 4: to know that she had a boyfriend, but I said, okay,
- 3:43Speaker 4: you know, come on over. But I had told her
- 3:46Speaker 4: about my ability to watch straight through the most graphic
- 3:49Speaker 4: slasher movies ever, and it made me feel good because
- 3:53Speaker 4: of my conditioning, so I invited her over to see,
- 3:55Speaker 4: you know.
- 3:56Speaker 3: And she had this boyfriend, so you were good enough
- 3:59Speaker 3: to invite him.
- 4:00Speaker 4: Well, yeah, I didn't know it, but I didn't want
- 4:02Speaker 4: to seem small-minded about it, so I said, why don't
- 4:04Speaker 4: you bring him over, you know. And I had these
- 4:06Speaker 4: movies to watch. I made some popcorn. I guess I
- 4:09Speaker 4: was going to try to be a good host.
- 4:10Speaker 3: Well, it shows you're a big man. So it was
- 4:13Speaker 3: you and her and the boyfriend, and you're watching these
- 4:16Speaker 3: slasher movies?
- 4:17Speaker 4: Yes, sir. So what happened was the more I thought
- 4:20Speaker 4: about it, the more I realized, well, this might be
- 4:22Speaker 4: a way to show her that maybe I'm the better
- 4:26Speaker 4: man for her than the dude she's seen. Because, again,
- 4:29Speaker 4: I said to you, you know, I can watch the
- 4:31Speaker 4: most graphic horror movies, and the most grotesquest, you know,
- 4:34Speaker 4: like the most grotesquest horror movies ever, and not get, like,
- 4:38Speaker 4: you know, some people kind of pretend like they're scratching
- 4:40Speaker 4: their eyes, you know, and they don't want to look.
- 4:43Speaker 4: I never, never, ever do that, you know.
- 4:45Speaker 2: All right, but Dave, I want you to know, you're
- 4:47Speaker 2: watching these graphic horror movies as a way of conditioning
- 4:49Speaker 2: yourself to the real-life violence that you're going to see
- 4:54Speaker 2: as a police officer.
- 4:55Speaker 4: Yes, sir, that's right. It's a good first-level kind of training.
- 4:57Speaker 3: All right, so you're at the house with this young
- 4:59Speaker 3: lady and her boyfriend. And she wants to be a cop, too.
- 5:03Speaker 4: Yes, sir. That's right. And this young lady, her name
- 5:05Speaker 4: is Annette, by the way. And, you know, so I
- 5:09Speaker 4: was giving her an idea of my training. So they
- 5:11Speaker 4: came over last Saturday night, and the first movie I
- 5:12Speaker 4: put on was Resident Evil. And I don't know if
- 5:15Speaker 4: you know about Resident Evil, but there's a very graphic
- 5:17Speaker 4: scene where a man is, like, sectioned by a laser grid.
- 5:20Speaker 4: I mean, he's cut into hundreds of pieces, you know.
- 5:22Speaker 4: And that scene, okay. And so what I did was
- 5:26Speaker 4: I watched her boyfriend. And he was very, very scared.
- 5:30Speaker 4: I mean, he put his face down. At one point,
- 5:31Speaker 4: he turned toward her, and it's all body language.
- 5:34Speaker 3: All right, so he was grossed out by the flick.
- 5:36Speaker 4: Yes, sir, that's correct. You know, and then I put
- 5:38Speaker 4: on Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2, where they, like, in
- 5:41Speaker 4: one of the scenes, they saw, you know, like, they
- 5:43Speaker 4: saw it, like, off a guy's face or something, and
- 5:45Speaker 4: he was put, and this dude that she was with
- 5:47Speaker 4: was putting his hands up to his face, pretending like
- 5:49Speaker 4: he's scratching his eyes and everything, you know? Okay? Right.
- 5:52Speaker 4: So I turned the lights on at that point, and
- 5:54Speaker 4: I turned the TV off at that point, okay? Okay.
- 5:57Speaker 4: And I went over and I said to Annette, I said,
- 5:59Speaker 4: I think it's obvious to you now. And I told
- 6:03Speaker 4: the guy also that I was going to be LAPD
- 6:06Speaker 4: and not for him to get nervous to just stay,
- 6:08Speaker 4: you know, stay seated so he doesn't try to, you know,
- 6:10Speaker 4: do anything. And I said to him, just stay seated.
- 6:12Speaker 4: And I pulled my chair up to where she was.
- 6:14Speaker 4: And I said, you know, I think it's obvious by
- 6:18Speaker 4: now who you belong with. It's not going to be,
- 6:20Speaker 4: he's not going to be LAPD because he just got
- 6:22Speaker 4: all grossed out by Texas Chainsaw Massacre, you know.
- 6:25Speaker 3: So you're saying this in front of this guy?
- 6:26Speaker 4: Yes, sir. Yes, sir. And I did. And I told him,
- 6:29Speaker 4: you know, no offense, but I want to be LAPD
- 6:31Speaker 4: and so does Annette. So no offense, but you're getting
- 6:35Speaker 4: grossed out by Laserbeam and Resident Evil. And I told her,
- 6:38Speaker 4: isn't it obvious by now who you really love, not
- 6:42Speaker 4: who you think you do, you know? Well, all right.
- 6:47Speaker 3: So what was the upshot of all of this, man?
- 6:49Speaker 4: Well, I mean, I told her, I said, look at
- 6:51Speaker 4: him and look at the way he was all like
- 6:53Speaker 4: a girl when Texas Chainsaw Massacre was on. And you're
- 6:55Speaker 4: going to be a police officer and so am I.
- 6:58Speaker 4: And there's no place in your life for this guy, right?
- 7:00Speaker 4: So I told her, you know, I said, isn't it
- 7:03Speaker 4: obvious that I'm the better man? And she didn't even
- 7:06Speaker 4: have the guts to admit it, you know? She did
- 7:09Speaker 4: not even have the guts to admit it.
- 7:10Speaker 2: Well, when you say she didn't have the guts to
- 7:12Speaker 2: admit it, she said that she wanted to stay with
- 7:14Speaker 2: that guy?
- 7:15Speaker 3: Is that what you're getting?
- 7:16Speaker 4: Yeah, she wants this guy to be her boyfriend. She
- 7:19Speaker 4: said that I was, like, mentally insane. And to me,
- 7:21Speaker 4: that proves she doesn't have the guts to be a
- 7:23Speaker 4: police officer because she was getting off. Afraid for him,
- 7:26Speaker 4: you know? So she's got to, like, protect him? You know,
- 7:29Speaker 4: so that's what I mean when I say being a
- 7:31Speaker 4: police officer is a lonely job, you know?
- 7:34Speaker 2: All right, from all of this, you took that women
- 7:36Speaker 2: just can't be with a strong man.
- 7:39Speaker 4: I think women want to be with men that they
- 7:40Speaker 4: need to protect. Like, if you saw this guy, when
- 7:44Speaker 4: she come to my apartment, and I put on Resident Evil,
- 7:47Speaker 4: and the part of the movie where the laser grid
- 7:50Speaker 4: just slices this guy into probably 300 pieces or something,
- 7:55Speaker 4: He was pretending like he had, you know, he was
- 7:58Speaker 4: pretending like he had an itch in his eye or something.
- 8:00Speaker 4: He's all, yeah, you know, he's rubbing it. He's looking
- 8:04Speaker 4: away and everything. And I can watch that movie. I
- 8:07Speaker 4: will never flinch or anything like that, you know. And
- 8:10Speaker 4: I felt lonely, you know. I felt bad because I
- 8:12Speaker 4: knew Annette would be good for me, you know. She
- 8:15Speaker 4: wants to be LAPD like me.
- 8:18Speaker 3: All right.
- 8:19Speaker 2: Our number is 1-800. I mean, I'm not doubting what
- 8:20Speaker 2: you're saying here. Our number is 1-800-449-8686. Women kind of
- 8:27Speaker 2: want to be with weaker men, huh?
- 8:28Speaker 4: I think so. I think that whole idea they want
- 8:30Speaker 4: to be with stronger men is not true because why
- 8:33Speaker 4: would she want to be with a guy who's acting
- 8:35Speaker 4: like a baby? And I could watch Friday the 13th
- 8:39Speaker 4: from beginning to end and stare right at the screen
- 8:43Speaker 4: and never look away. You know, like when they put
- 8:45Speaker 4: the hypodermic needle into that guy's eye. or the one
- 8:47Speaker 4: scene where he takes a harpoon, or I forget what
- 8:50Speaker 4: it was, but he spews this dude through the face,
- 8:52Speaker 4: you know? I'm just totally staring at it. I never
- 8:57Speaker 4: flinch away, man. But she doesn't respect that.
- 9:00Speaker 3: You do this so that it gets you ready for
- 9:04Speaker 3: police duty?
- 9:05Speaker 4: Well, it's a good way to become used to, like,
- 9:11Speaker 4: the stuff that's going down out there, you know? And,
- 9:14Speaker 4: you know, I know I have to go to the academy.
- 9:16Speaker 4: Of course, yes, I do have to do that. I
- 9:18Speaker 4: know that, yes. But to get myself ready for how,
- 9:23Speaker 4: you know, violent it's going to be, I can watch,
- 9:26Speaker 4: I read all those movies, Bad Faces of Death. I'm
- 9:28Speaker 4: looking right at it when that one dude gets pulled
- 9:31Speaker 4: apart by, like, airplanes. I'm like, yeah, uh-huh. You know,
- 9:34Speaker 4: and I swear to God, man, someone could say, hey,
- 9:36Speaker 4: you want a peanut butter sandwich or something? I'm going
- 9:38Speaker 4: to go, yeah, man, you know, and I won't even
- 9:40Speaker 4: look away from the screen and go, yeah. Give me
- 9:42Speaker 4: a peanut butter sandwich while I tilt my head to
- 9:43Speaker 4: the right with my eyes still on the widescreen.
- 9:46Speaker 3: All right, but I mean, you know that's all fake.
- 9:50Speaker 4: Not Faces of Death. No, that's not.
- 9:52Speaker 2: All right, other than Faces of Death, you know the
- 9:53Speaker 2: rest of it's all fake.
- 9:55Speaker 4: Yeah, it is fake, but it's so real that people
- 9:59Speaker 4: scream in the movies. theater. Okay, so how can you
- 10:01Speaker 4: say it's fake when people are throwing up and screaming, see?
- 10:05Speaker 4: And if it's fake, how come her boyfriend is, like,
- 10:09Speaker 4: you know, cringing and stuff? During Resident Evil, when that
- 10:13Speaker 4: one ghoul came in, he put his hand on this
- 10:16Speaker 4: one guy's face. He's a professor. rip the guy's nose
- 10:19Speaker 4: off and everything you know i mean it's.
- 10:20Speaker 2: Pretty bad all right 1-800-449-8686 why do women want to
- 10:25Speaker 2: be with weak men and not with strong men and
- 10:27Speaker 2: here's a guy who wants to be a member of
- 10:28Speaker 2: the lapd and he was very much taken with this
- 10:31Speaker 2: one young lady who he thought was going to be
- 10:32Speaker 2: a police officer and turns out when he invited her
- 10:35Speaker 2: and her boyfriend over to watch some slasher movies apparently
- 10:39Speaker 2: they uh you know the boyfriend was scared of them
- 10:42Speaker 2: and the girl still wants to be With him, and
- 10:44Speaker 2: not with Dave, who watches them all the time from
- 10:46Speaker 2: beginning to end without covering his eyes.
- 10:48Speaker 3: Phil Hendry Show. The Phil Hendry Show.
- 10:50Speaker 5: The whore.
- 10:51Speaker 3: The Phil Hendry Show is back.
- 10:53Speaker 2: I have on the line with me Dave Ulliver, who
- 10:55Speaker 2: is studying criminal justice at the L.A.
- 10:58Speaker 3: Canyon College.
- 10:59Speaker 2: He is eventually going to hopefully go to the Los
- 11:02Speaker 2: Angeles Police Academy. And your thesis for your sociology paper
- 11:05Speaker 2: has to do with what the right mate is for
- 11:08Speaker 2: a police officer, right?
- 11:09Speaker 4: Yeah, it's actually, I named the paper because Mr. Adams,
- 11:14Speaker 4: who's our professor in a class, suggested I said, who's
- 11:16Speaker 4: the right mate for a cop, you know, is the
- 11:18Speaker 4: name of it. And the paper, you know, basically concludes
- 11:24Speaker 4: that women, you know, it's hard for a police officer
- 11:28Speaker 4: to get a good woman because they're scared of strong men,
- 11:33Speaker 4: you know. And they think they want a strong man.
- 11:36Speaker 2: All right, but this is based upon you inviting this girl, Annette,
- 11:39Speaker 2: who you really like, from your class over with her
- 11:42Speaker 2: boyfriend to your house, and you watched a series of movies. Now,
- 11:45Speaker 2: I've got them listed here. You started with Resident Evil?
- 11:49Speaker 4: Yes, sir. We started with Resident Evil, then we went
- 11:51Speaker 4: to Texas Chainsaw Massacre, then Friday the 13th. But there's
- 11:55Speaker 4: probably a list of 15 straight movies that I can
- 11:58Speaker 4: watch straight to without even taking my eyes off the
- 12:01Speaker 4: screen or flinching or pretending like I've got a, you know...
- 12:04Speaker 4: go pee or something like that. I mean, in other words,
- 12:06Speaker 4: I could look at them.
- 12:08Speaker 2: And the guy she came over to the house with
- 12:10Speaker 2: was flinching and putting his hands over his eyes.
- 12:13Speaker 4: Yes, sir. That's right. And so that's when I turned
- 12:15Speaker 4: the TV off. It was like halfway through Friday the 13th.
- 12:18Speaker 4: I turned it off and I just pulled the chair
- 12:20Speaker 4: and I turned the chair around backwards and I sat
- 12:21Speaker 4: down and faced both of them. I said, okay, look,
- 12:24Speaker 4: let's get it out on the table. You know, I
- 12:27Speaker 4: said to her, Annette, you want to be with me
- 12:29Speaker 4: because I've seen all these movies and And I don't
- 12:33Speaker 4: even flinch. Now this guy you brought over to my home,
- 12:36Speaker 4: into my very home, and he's sitting there all pretending like,
- 12:42Speaker 4: you know, like he's looking at the screen, but he's
- 12:44Speaker 4: really looking down, you know, his eyes are down on
- 12:46Speaker 4: his stomach or something. To me that's not, you know,
- 12:51Speaker 4: it just wasn't honest, you know.
- 12:54Speaker 2: So therefore she should be with you, but she decided
- 12:56Speaker 2: that she didn't want to be with you, she wanted
- 12:57Speaker 2: to be with this guy.
- 12:58Speaker 4: Exactly, exactly.
- 13:01Speaker 3: All right, 1-800-449-8686. Wayne, you're on the air with Dave Oliva.
- 13:05Speaker 3: Go ahead.
- 13:07Speaker 4: Hello?
- 13:07Speaker 3: Yes, sir. Go ahead, Wayne.
- 13:09Speaker 4: Mr. Henry, how are you doing? Good.
- 13:10Speaker 5: Listen, I'm a first-time caller. I have a background in
- 13:14Speaker 5: law enforcement. I actually work for Housing and Urban Development.
- 13:16Speaker 5: I was one of the gang units. First, I want
- 13:18Speaker 5: to start off with a question. Dave, how old are
- 13:21Speaker 5: you and where were you raised?
- 13:23Speaker 4: I'm 19 years old. I come from Monterey Park, California. Okay.
- 13:28Speaker 5: Your age alone, and I don't want to be insulting,
- 13:30Speaker 5: so please, anything I say, don't take it insulting. I
- 13:32Speaker 5: just haven't happened to be in blood. Your age alone
- 13:34Speaker 5: shows a lack of maturity, okay? My involvement in the
- 13:37Speaker 5: law enforcement community, actually, right now, I'm no longer in
- 13:39Speaker 5: law enforcement. I'm a VIP in Dignitary Protection. I do
- 13:42Speaker 5: a lot of work overseas, Mexico, the Philippines. I'm talking
- 13:45Speaker 5: about high-risk assignments. And I can tell you right now,
- 13:48Speaker 5: because I am married, I met my wife when I
- 13:50Speaker 5: was a police officer. I actually met my wife when
- 13:51Speaker 5: I was on a gang enforcement team. I worked in Carson, Compton, Pacoima.
- 13:55Speaker 5: I work with some of the most hardcore gangs that
- 13:57Speaker 5: you've ever heard of. I don't know if you've ever
- 13:58Speaker 5: heard of gangs like the Bloodbounty Hunters. These guys are
- 14:01Speaker 5: all right out of the pen. They're all killers.
- 14:03Speaker 4: Like Cryptoville? People like that?
- 14:05Speaker 5: I'm talking about the hardcore, scary guys, okay? Hold on,
- 14:11Speaker 5: hold on.
- 14:13Speaker 4: I'm not saying that you don't, you know, but what
- 14:15Speaker 4: about just, I'm not saying it's like that, but I'm
- 14:18Speaker 4: saying just for sitting around your house, isn't it good
- 14:22Speaker 4: training to look at like a gore movie? And not flinch.
- 14:27Speaker 4: Absolutely not.
- 14:29Speaker 5: Absolutely not. I can tell you right now, matter of factly,
- 14:33Speaker 5: I know several individuals, guys who have been in the
- 14:35Speaker 5: military and guys who have been with law enforcement, can
- 14:39Speaker 5: sit there. We've walked up together on crime scenes. I'm
- 14:42Speaker 5: talking about, and I'm going to be gory here for
- 14:44Speaker 5: a second, so please forgive me, but it's a fact
- 14:46Speaker 5: of life, where a baby is in the crib and
- 14:49Speaker 5: had half its head blown off by the father who
- 14:51Speaker 5: was all doped up, okay, because the guy just went nuts, okay?
- 14:56Speaker 5: I have worked with guys who can sit there and look...
- 14:58Speaker 5: Hold on, listen to me. Listen to me. The guys
- 15:01Speaker 5: that can sit there and look at that, not flinch,
- 15:04Speaker 5: because it's part of the job, but when they watch
- 15:06Speaker 5: some of these same horror slasher movies, they get shocked,
- 15:09Speaker 5: they jump, they flinch, they look away. One has nothing
- 15:12Speaker 5: to do with the other. Look at something that actually
- 15:14Speaker 5: used to be a living human being, a child, and
- 15:17Speaker 5: look at something that has no soul, no substance on television,
- 15:20Speaker 5: two worlds apart. One does not condition for the other.
- 15:23Speaker 4: But don't you think that, like, okay, she's with this guy...
- 15:26Speaker 4: And he's immediately all flinching. He's saying, you know, like
- 15:30Speaker 4: to block out the screaming. And he's going, la, la, la, la, la.
- 15:32Speaker 4: You know how guys do that? He's doing that. Don't
- 15:34Speaker 4: you think she should be with me?
- 15:35Speaker 5: Absolutely not.
- 15:37Speaker 4: Why not?
- 15:38Speaker 5: Well, I'm trying to answer. You've got to let me finish.
- 15:41Speaker 5: Because he can't sit there and watch some B-rated horror
- 15:44Speaker 5: slasher movie. It's got nothing to do with him as
- 15:46Speaker 5: an individual for a relationship. Maybe he's got a personality.
- 15:50Speaker 5: Maybe there's something about him that they click together. To
- 15:54Speaker 5: be honest with you, it sounds to me, by the
- 15:56Speaker 5: way you approached them, the way you said, look, he
- 15:58Speaker 5: can't sit through this. He's acting like a girl. She
- 16:01Speaker 5: probably took that as, you know what, this guy's cocky.
- 16:03Speaker 5: He's full of himself. He's confrontational. She probably doesn't want
- 16:05Speaker 5: to be at that. My friend, it's got nothing to
- 16:07Speaker 5: do with a girl doesn't want to be with a
- 16:09Speaker 5: strong-willed man. On the contrary, it takes a strong-willed woman
- 16:19Speaker 5: to be with a police officer.
- 16:21Speaker 4: Well, how come I had to go get this guy
- 16:23Speaker 4: a box of tissues and everything? I mean, you've got
- 16:24Speaker 4: to understand, that's got to be weird, right? Okay, now
- 16:27Speaker 4: let me say, what you just said about the baby having, like,
- 16:31Speaker 4: part of its head blown away, I didn't flinch when
- 16:34Speaker 4: you said that, okay? That didn't make me flinch.
- 16:37Speaker 5: But saying it and seeing it are two different worlds.
- 16:39Speaker 3: It's two different things, isn't it?
- 16:41Speaker 4: It's two different worlds.
- 16:41Speaker 5: It's absolutely two different worlds.
- 16:43Speaker 4: You could go out. Okay, look. You could go out,
- 16:46Speaker 4: and I'm not trying to be disrespectful, but you could
- 16:48Speaker 4: go out and get, like, a cantaloupe or something and
- 16:50Speaker 4: paint it up to look like a face and then
- 16:52Speaker 4: blast it away, and that could get you used to it,
- 16:56Speaker 4: couldn't it?
- 16:57Speaker 5: No, it's not the same. It doesn't look the same.
- 16:59Speaker 5: It doesn't smell the same.
- 17:00Speaker 3: Shoot a freaking cantaloupe in half?
- 17:02Speaker 4: I'm just saying.
- 17:04Speaker 5: Dave, listen, half of it has to do with seeing
- 17:08Speaker 5: what was a live human body, and the other half.
- 17:11Speaker 4: Is smell, okay?
- 17:13Speaker 5: There are odors that go with it. We're not watching
- 17:15Speaker 5: Smell-O-Vision on TV with a scratch and sniff, okay? It's
- 17:18Speaker 5: not the same thing.
- 17:19Speaker 4: What's a baby's head smell like? I don't understand how
- 17:22Speaker 4: that's right.
- 17:23Speaker 3: Just take the gentleman's word for it. I mean, he's
- 17:25Speaker 3: seen it, Dave. He's been there.
- 17:27Speaker 4: Right. No, and I respect that. I respect the man.
- 17:30Speaker 4: He's walked the walk, you know. But I'm just talking
- 17:32Speaker 4: about Annette. Why won't she be with me instead of
- 17:35Speaker 4: this guy who's pretending like he's got a piece of, like,
- 17:39Speaker 4: lint in his face, scratching his eyes so he doesn't
- 17:42Speaker 4: have to look at the hypodermic scene in Halloween 2?
- 17:45Speaker 5: Okay, create me a problem. Was this the first night
- 17:47Speaker 5: you met this individual?
- 17:48Speaker 4: It was the first night I met him, yeah, but
- 17:49Speaker 4: I know Annette from school.
- 17:51Speaker 5: Correct, but it was the first night you met him.
- 17:52Speaker 4: Yeah, that's right.
- 17:53Speaker 5: You don't know the guy. She knows the guy. There
- 17:55Speaker 5: are probably a hundred qualities about him that she absolutely
- 17:58Speaker 5: loves that they click. Because he can't sit there and
- 18:00Speaker 5: watch a horror movie, you know, it's got nothing to
- 18:03Speaker 5: do with maturity. It's got to do with the fact
- 18:05Speaker 5: that he doesn't like horror movies. He can't stomach them.
- 18:07Speaker 5: It's got nothing to do with him as an individual,
- 18:09Speaker 5: as a man.
- 18:09Speaker 4: Hey, can I ask you, how tall are you, sir?
- 18:12Speaker 4: How tall are you? Six foot. Okay, don't most of
- 18:14Speaker 4: you guys in private security are like 6'4, something like that?
- 18:17Speaker 4: I met a guy who was former Secret Service, and
- 18:19Speaker 4: he ran a security company. He's like, guy's like 6'5,
- 18:22Speaker 4: or something.
- 18:23Speaker 5: Actually, most of the guys that I know are my
- 18:26Speaker 5: height or shorter.
- 18:27Speaker 4: Yeah? Yeah.
- 18:28Speaker 5: Let me ask you, what has height got to do
- 18:30Speaker 5: with it?
- 18:30Speaker 4: Well, I don't know. I've just seen this one guy
- 18:32Speaker 4: that's really tall. I didn't think they took little small guys,
- 18:34Speaker 4: you know?
- 18:34Speaker 3: 6'0, I'm 6'0. I don't think I'm small.
- 18:37Speaker 4: Well, yeah, Mr. Henry, but you're not like... A cop
- 18:40Speaker 4: or anything.
- 18:41Speaker 5: Dave, I'm six foot, I'm 215, I'm probably about 8%
- 18:45Speaker 5: body fat.
- 18:46Speaker 4: Okay. When you said that the kid's head was blown away,
- 18:50Speaker 4: how do you just blow half of a baby's head away?
- 18:52Speaker 4: Because if you're using a shotgun, the whole head would
- 18:54Speaker 4: be gone, wouldn't it?
- 18:55Speaker 3: Will you come on, man?
- 18:56Speaker 5: Let's not talk about this like we're... Now you're talking
- 18:59Speaker 5: about terminal ballistics, angle projections, stuff like that.
- 19:01Speaker 4: Well, yeah, but I mean, if the dude used a shotgun,
- 19:03Speaker 4: the whole, like, it would only be two feet.
- 19:07Speaker 3: All right, look it. Wayne, thank you for sharing your
- 19:09Speaker 3: experience with us. It's very interesting.
- 19:11Speaker 4: Absolutely. My pleasure.
- 19:12Speaker 3: I appreciate it very much, so thank you.
- 19:13Speaker 5: Can I close with this?
- 19:14Speaker 3: Go ahead.
- 19:15Speaker 5: The last thing that he said shows a lack of maturity,
- 19:18Speaker 5: and it's exactly why he probably should not be applying
- 19:20Speaker 5: for LAPD.
- 19:21Speaker 4: No, no, I just want to know, if you're saying
- 19:22Speaker 4: that a guy took a shotgun to a baby, and
- 19:25Speaker 4: his ability to shoot it was so good that only
- 19:28Speaker 4: like a half of.
- 19:29Speaker 5: A baby head went, I would say his ability to
- 19:32Speaker 5: shoot was so bad that he only took off half
- 19:34Speaker 5: the head. He killed his own child.
- 19:37Speaker 4: No, no, no, I know that, you know, and that's bad, but.
- 19:40Speaker 5: Still, give credit where credit is due.
- 19:43Speaker 3: Yeah, Wayne, thank you. Give credit where credit is due, huh?
- 19:47Speaker 4: No, Mr. Ernie, I don't mean to say nothing, but
- 19:50Speaker 4: if only half of a baby, well, I don't even
- 19:53Speaker 4: want to talk about how a half a baby head
- 19:55Speaker 4: gets shot off.
- 19:59Speaker 2: Dave Oliva with us. He is studying law enforcement at L.A.
- 20:03Speaker 2: Canyon College. He watches slasher movies to try to give
- 20:07Speaker 2: him a sense of what he's up against if he
- 20:09Speaker 2: becomes a police officer. And his girl that he's interested
- 20:11Speaker 2: in brought over a guy to the house, and the
- 20:13Speaker 2: guy couldn't take it.
- 20:14Speaker 3: The Phil Hendry Show. Talk radio's speed trap. Dave Oliva
- 20:18Speaker 3: is my guest this hour.
- 20:19Speaker 2: Dave is a student of law enforcement and wants to
- 20:23Speaker 2: be a member of the Los Angeles police after graduating
- 20:26Speaker 2: from college. And then you go into the academy right
- 20:28Speaker 2: after UCLA, Dave?
- 20:30Speaker 4: Well, first I want to get my AA, you know,
- 20:33Speaker 4: in college. Canyon College, yeah. And then I'm going to
- 20:36Speaker 4: go to UCLA. Hopefully, you know, I want to transfer there.
- 20:41Speaker 4: And then eventually I want to go to L.A. Police Academy,
- 20:43Speaker 4: you know.
- 20:44Speaker 2: Your thesis, this paper you did for your sociology class
- 20:49Speaker 2: on the right mate for a police officer had to
- 20:51Speaker 2: do with you inviting over this young lady you were
- 20:53Speaker 2: interested in.
- 20:54Speaker 3: Her boyfriend came along.
- 20:56Speaker 2: You showed slasher movies that you say you can watch
- 20:59Speaker 2: without flinching. Now, you just heard that former police officer say,
- 21:02Speaker 2: say that he's seen some pretty grotesque things that he
- 21:05Speaker 2: didn't flinch at, and yet he and his friends would
- 21:07Speaker 2: go watch slasher movies, and they would flinch.
- 21:10Speaker 4: Well, I think if you're talking about a baby head, see,
- 21:14Speaker 4: that's got to be different, you know.
- 21:16Speaker 6: Why?
- 21:17Speaker 3: He said he saw a baby's head blown off.
- 21:19Speaker 4: Yeah, but that's, what's that going to look like? It's
- 21:22Speaker 4: just like somebody spilled some tomato soup or something, as
- 21:25Speaker 4: opposed to a guy's head. Which is going to be different. See,
- 21:29Speaker 4: so he didn't differentiate right there. See, he should have
- 21:32Speaker 4: differentiated right there.
- 21:33Speaker 3: What are you talking about, man? Like he said, it
- 21:35Speaker 3: was a human being, once alive, now dead.
- 21:39Speaker 4: Yeah, but he never did address how, if you're watching
- 21:42Speaker 4: Resident Evil, I saw that guy going down the hallway,
- 21:46Speaker 4: big as life. He was making jokes, and they did
- 21:49Speaker 4: fart jokes, all kinds of stuff. Next thing you know,
- 21:51Speaker 4: the guy's diced up by a laser grid.
- 21:54Speaker 3: Yeah, but that guy's an actor, man. We're talking about.
- 21:56Speaker 4: No, I'm sorry, Mr. Henry. I'm sorry. No. It's the
- 22:00Speaker 4: same thing, man.
- 22:01Speaker 3: No, you just heard that cop say that it wasn't.
- 22:03Speaker 4: 1-800-449-8686.
- 22:04Speaker 2: Let's go over to Susan. You're on the Phil Henry Show, Susan.
- 22:10Speaker 7: Hi.
- 22:10Speaker 3: Hi.
- 22:11Speaker 6: First of all, about Dave, does he not realize that
- 22:15Speaker 6: most cops really do not see this very... traumatic scenes
- 22:21Speaker 6: or murders, this and that.
- 22:23Speaker 7: What?
- 22:24Speaker 4: That cop just said he did. That cop just said
- 22:26Speaker 4: that he did.
- 22:27Speaker 6: Okay, but how many come home and discuss it over dinner?
- 22:31Speaker 4: Probably a lot of them, you know. They come home
- 22:32Speaker 4: and talk about their work.
- 22:34Speaker 6: Okay, yeah, they just say they went to a crime scene,
- 22:37Speaker 6: it was bad, but do you think they actually go
- 22:39Speaker 6: into detail?
- 22:40Speaker 4: Well, see, the girl that was.
- 22:41Speaker 6: And tell about every speck of blood?
- 22:43Speaker 4: Yeah, a lot of them do, you know, to get
- 22:45Speaker 4: it off their minds. You'll go home... And you'll be there, yeah,
- 22:49Speaker 4: and even if your kids are there, you'll have to
- 22:51Speaker 4: say it. Otherwise, if you don't talk about it, you'll
- 22:53Speaker 4: go insane, you know, and you'll want to go and, like,
- 22:56Speaker 4: kill people. So you'll come home and say, yeah, today, man,
- 22:59Speaker 4: there was a baby in a microwave oven, man, and
- 23:02Speaker 4: then you'll have to sit down to dinner. Come on, man.
- 23:05Speaker 8: With children there?
- 23:06Speaker 4: Yeah, sure.
- 23:07Speaker 6: I beg to differ. Usually you come home and say
- 23:10Speaker 6: there was a major accident with a baby. A parent
- 23:14Speaker 6: or whoever killed a baby. You don't go into detail.
- 23:16Speaker 4: Well, excuse me, ma'am.
- 23:17Speaker 6: I'm sorry. I've worked trauma at hospitals.
- 23:19Speaker 4: Are you like a police officer or do you know?
- 23:21Speaker 6: No, but I used to work trauma in a major hospital.
- 23:23Speaker 4: What's that got to do with it?
- 23:25Speaker 6: I've seen the worst of worst accidents coming in, the
- 23:28Speaker 6: bodies mangled. I did not come home and tell details.
- 23:32Speaker 4: Well, ma'am.
- 23:32Speaker 6: I said I saw a car accident, minor details. But
- 23:36Speaker 6: I did not go, oh, this speck of blood was here.
- 23:38Speaker 6: This is what was done.
- 23:39Speaker 4: Wait a minute. If the body's all mangled up, why
- 23:41Speaker 4: did they take it to the hospital? Why didn't they
- 23:42Speaker 4: just take it down to the graveyard?
- 23:45Speaker 6: Well, they always bring it to a trauma unit.
- 23:49Speaker 4: Even if it's dead? What is that?
- 23:52Speaker 6: Yes, they do.
- 23:53Speaker 4: What's that about?
- 23:53Speaker 6: They try to bring it in. It may be DOA,
- 23:57Speaker 6: but they still bring it in.
- 23:59Speaker 4: They bring it in to try to breathe life into it?
- 24:01Speaker 4: That's what's wrong with our trauma center.
- 24:03Speaker 6: Have you ever heard DOA? Dead on arrival?
- 24:07Speaker 4: Dead on arrival.
- 24:07Speaker 8: They still work it.
- 24:08Speaker 6: The doctor has to call it in the trauma.
- 24:11Speaker 4: Right, but it's dead.
- 24:11Speaker 6: And how many doctors have wives that are squeamish of blood?
- 24:15Speaker 6: Do you think they come home and just stop sticking
- 24:18Speaker 6: a needle into a patient's arm to draw blood?
- 24:20Speaker 8: No.
- 24:21Speaker 4: Probably what a police officer does is, he's a tough guy.
- 24:25Speaker 4: So if like, okay, let's get down to brass tacks.
- 24:28Speaker 4: Have you ever seen Friday the 13th?
- 24:30Speaker 6: Yes, I have, and I've seen all faces of death.
- 24:32Speaker 4: All the way through without flinching?
- 24:34Speaker 8: Yes.
- 24:35Speaker 6: Doesn't faze me one bit.
- 24:36Speaker 4: Come on, man. Are you serious?
- 24:38Speaker 6: Yes. Faces of death?
- 24:40Speaker 4: No, no, no. I loved it. No, no, no. I
- 24:42Speaker 4: mean Friday the 13th and Resident Evil back-to-back.
- 24:46Speaker 8: No big deal.
- 24:47Speaker 4: It's all fake. Well, okay, but most people have got
- 24:51Speaker 4: to pretend like they're... But.
- 24:52Speaker 6: Have you ever seen that and sat in a trauma
- 24:55Speaker 6: unit and seen somebody come in looking like that? Big difference.
- 24:58Speaker 6: You do not go home and discuss it with your spouse.
- 25:01Speaker 4: What difference does it make?
- 25:03Speaker 2: One's real and one's... And what's this got to do
- 25:06Speaker 2: with finding the right wife?
- 25:08Speaker 4: Because you've got to be tough to be able to
- 25:10Speaker 4: look at Resident Evil. I don't care what nobody says. Okay, fine.
- 25:13Speaker 3: All right, fine. So you're tough.
- 25:14Speaker 2: So this chick that you had, pardon me for using
- 25:16Speaker 2: the term chick, but you had her over at the
- 25:18Speaker 2: house on Friday night, she prefers the guy that's going
- 25:20Speaker 2: to pretend like he has a headache or he forgot
- 25:23Speaker 2: something at the office so his head's down and his
- 25:25Speaker 2: hand's over his eyes so he doesn't have to look
- 25:27Speaker 2: at the dude getting lasered up in Resident Evil.
- 25:29Speaker 4: Well, that sounds almost bitch-like.
- 25:33Speaker 3: Watch the word bitch with a lady on the phone, okay?
- 25:36Speaker 4: I'm sorry, man.
- 25:36Speaker 6: Actually, that doesn't offend me.
- 25:37Speaker 4: I apologize, man. I apologize, man. Don't worry about it.
- 25:40Speaker 4: But all I'm saying is, like, she brings this bitch
- 25:42Speaker 4: over to my house.
- 25:43Speaker 3: Let's just not call the guy a bitch.
- 25:45Speaker 4: He's acting like a bitch, you know, and he can't
- 25:47Speaker 4: even watch other people. Dave Hunt. And the whole, you know,
- 25:52Speaker 4: getting a harpoon. Forget it, man.
- 25:55Speaker 7: Jesus.
- 25:57Speaker 6: But does it matter if he can watch a horror flick?
- 26:00Speaker 4: How old are you, anyway?
- 26:01Speaker 6: 36.
- 26:03Speaker 4: You sound like my kind of woman, you know, because
- 26:06Speaker 4: you can look at Resident Evil and not even flinch. Jesus.
- 26:10Speaker 4: That's pretty cool.
- 26:12Speaker 6: Faces of Death, the greatest series out there.
- 26:14Speaker 4: Yeah, me too. I totally agree.
- 26:16Speaker 6: That doesn't mean seeing it on film, seeing it in
- 26:21Speaker 6: person is not going to affect you differently.
- 26:24Speaker 4: Have you ever sat down to watch, like, let's say
- 26:28Speaker 4: Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, and one of your friends is
- 26:31Speaker 4: going like, oh, wow, you know, I forgot something at
- 26:34Speaker 4: the office, because they've got their hand over their eyes
- 26:36Speaker 4: like they don't want to look at it.
- 26:38Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 26:39Speaker 4: It's happened to me, too. It makes me disgusted.
- 26:41Speaker 6: And happy birthday me with the kebab down the throat.
- 26:44Speaker 4: Oh, yeah, the kebab scene? Yeah. But that doesn't mean.
- 26:48Speaker 6: That you see it in person. It's not going to
- 26:50Speaker 6: affect you.
- 26:51Speaker 4: Right.
- 26:51Speaker 3: All right, listen, thank you very much, Susan.
- 26:53Speaker 4: 1-800- Can I get this chick's number?
- 26:56Speaker 3: I hung up on her.
- 26:57Speaker 4: Oh, thanks a lot, man. Go ahead, man. What are
- 27:00Speaker 4: you talking about?
- 27:01Speaker 3: Hold on.
- 27:03Speaker 2: Dave Oliver with us. And if you've seen the kebab
- 27:06Speaker 2: scene in Happy Birthday to Me, brother, you're ready to
- 27:09Speaker 2: be a cop. It's the Phil Hendry Show.
- 27:11Speaker 3: Phil Hendry Show.
- 27:12Speaker 4: I'm studying to be LAPD. That's right. I'm going to
- 27:14Speaker 4: be LAPD. Hey, how do you like me now? How
- 27:16Speaker 4: do you like me now?
- 27:16Speaker 3: The Phil Hendry Show is back.
- 27:17Speaker 4: What are you talking about, man? But the other movie
- 27:19Speaker 4: that I saw one night was Psycho. That Psycho's nothing,
- 27:22Speaker 4: you know? But if you can't see Psycho, and then
- 27:28Speaker 4: go take a shower? How much, you know, how pussed
- 27:32Speaker 4: out are you then?
- 27:33Speaker 2: Yeah, but man, if you go see the movie Psycho,
- 27:36Speaker 2: and it scares you to have a shower, you're telling.
- 27:39Speaker 3: Me you can't be a cop?
- 27:41Speaker 4: I'm just saying the guy she was with, she'd rather
- 27:44Speaker 4: be with him than with me, and she wants to
- 27:45Speaker 4: be a cop too?
- 27:47Speaker 3: I don't know, man. I don't know how women think. 1-800-440,
- 27:50Speaker 3: believe me.
- 27:51Speaker 4: Are you married, Mr. Henry?
- 27:52Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm married.
- 27:53Speaker 4: And you don't know how women think?
- 27:55Speaker 3: No, I do not, man. As a matter of fact,
- 27:56Speaker 3: being married... I know less about it.
- 27:58Speaker 2: I know far less now about women than I've ever known,
- 28:01Speaker 2: and I've been married eight years.
- 28:02Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 28:03Speaker 4: Well, don't you think that's pathetic?
- 28:05Speaker 2: No, I don't think it's pathetic. I think it's just life.
- 28:07Speaker 2: You know, you're learning as you go. What do you
- 28:10Speaker 2: want me to say?
- 28:10Speaker 4: I mean, 1-800-449-8686.
- 28:15Speaker 3: Sophia, you're on the Phil Henry Show. Hello, Sophia.
- 28:17Speaker 4: Go ahead.
- 28:18Speaker 6: All right.
- 28:19Speaker 8: First of all, I'd like to talk to this young
- 28:21Speaker 8: gentleman there. Tell me... Do you judge a character of
- 28:25Speaker 8: a person based on a Class B film?
- 28:28Speaker 4: Did I tear the neck off a parrot? You just
- 28:31Speaker 4: said I teared the face off a parrot?
- 28:33Speaker 8: Excuse me?
- 28:34Speaker 4: What did you just say?
- 28:35Speaker 3: You have to say that again, Sophia, because your phone
- 28:37Speaker 3: broke up.
- 28:38Speaker 6: Is that like she said.
- 28:39Speaker 4: Do you ever tear the face off a parrot to
- 28:41Speaker 4: figure out how someone will be a partner? I don't know.
- 28:45Speaker 8: Are you judging a character based on a.
- 28:48Speaker 6: Class B film that you are watching?
- 28:51Speaker 8: Is that what life is bound to?
- 28:53Speaker 4: No. What I'm saying, ma'am, is if you can't watch
- 28:57Speaker 4: Resident Evil Part 3 all the way through without hiding
- 29:00Speaker 4: your eyes, what are you all about?
- 29:03Speaker 8: But you make no sense. Don't you realize that?
- 29:05Speaker 4: Have you ever seen that movie?
- 29:06Speaker 8: Did you make no sense?
- 29:07Speaker 4: I make total sense. Have you ever seen that movie?
- 29:10Speaker 8: I don't need to see it. I saw it in
- 29:11Speaker 8: real life, man.
- 29:12Speaker 4: You saw Resident Evil?
- 29:14Speaker 8: I saw it in real life.
- 29:15Speaker 4: You saw a guy get split apart by a laser beam? Yeah, see? No,
- 29:19Speaker 4: you didn't.
- 29:19Speaker 8: Listen, let me tell you something.
- 29:21Speaker 4: No, you didn't.
- 29:21Speaker 8: No, you didn't. Now I'm going to teach you a
- 29:22Speaker 8: lesson in life.
- 29:23Speaker 4: If you saw a laser beam slice a guy, then
- 29:27Speaker 4: I want to know about it.
- 29:29Speaker 8: Let me teach you a lesson in life. To be
- 29:32Speaker 8: a human being is not measured on a Class B
- 29:36Speaker 8: film that you're watching.
- 29:37Speaker 4: It sounds like you just said to be a human being.
- 29:39Speaker 8: Listen to me. Don't talk so much.
- 29:40Speaker 4: Listen. I can't understand you. Your phone broke up. Okay.
- 29:44Speaker 8: Listen to me. I am Israeli, served in my Israeli army,
- 29:49Speaker 8: all right?
- 29:49Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 29:50Speaker 8: Side by side, my Israeli guys fellows, which they are
- 29:54Speaker 8: the most vicious on the field when it comes to battle.
- 29:58Speaker 8: and the most conscientious human being in ordinary life.
- 30:03Speaker 4: Okay, did they use laser rays?
- 30:03Speaker 8: So I don't understand what you're saying.
- 30:05Speaker 6: It makes no sense.
- 30:06Speaker 4: Did they use laser rays in the Israeli army?
- 30:12Speaker 8: Listen to me.
- 30:12Speaker 3: It makes no sense.
- 30:13Speaker 4: Wait a minute, man.
- 30:14Speaker 2: The lady is saying she's been around guys. She's been
- 30:17Speaker 2: in war. She's been in the army.
- 30:19Speaker 4: Well, what do you mean war?
- 30:20Speaker 3: She was in the Israeli army.
- 30:23Speaker 4: Okay. But where were they in?
- 30:25Speaker 3: What are you talking about, you idiot?
- 30:26Speaker 4: They were in the... Wait a minute, Mr.
- 30:28Speaker 2: Ernie.
- 30:28Speaker 4: I'm going to be LAPD. Don't call me an idiot. Now, ma'am.
- 30:33Speaker 8: Yes, sir.
- 30:34Speaker 4: You were in the what army?
- 30:37Speaker 6: Phil, why don't you tell them?
- 30:39Speaker 2: He was in the Israeli army, and there's been nothing
- 30:41Speaker 2: but freaking war down.
- 30:42Speaker 3: There, okay? Now, look, Dave.
- 30:45Speaker 4: Excuse me, Mr. Henry, have you ever been in combat?
- 30:47Speaker 3: Would you come on, man, and just listen to me?
- 30:50Speaker 2: She ain't saying she saw a guy get sliced up
- 30:52Speaker 2: by a laser ray or whatever the hell you saw
- 30:54Speaker 2: in Resident Evil.
- 30:55Speaker 3: She's saying she's seen real dead guys, okay?
- 30:58Speaker 4: Exactly. Okay, but if you don't have dead guys laying
- 31:01Speaker 4: around you all the time, like maybe Sophia does, then
- 31:04Speaker 4: the next best thing is to see Friday the 13th. Jesus!
- 31:09Speaker 8: Let me tell you something. Wisdom and intelligence.
- 31:13Speaker 4: I'm not even getting through to this chick.
- 31:15Speaker 8: Wisdom and intelligence will not be measured in.
- 31:18Speaker 6: Class B films that you're watching.
- 31:21Speaker 8: And relationship that you want to earn in the future
- 31:24Speaker 8: will not be based on Class B films that you're watching.
- 31:27Speaker 4: And most of those movies are produced in Israel. Ooh,
- 31:29Speaker 4: that's got to hurt.
- 31:31Speaker 8: Relationship is not based on film. Relationship is based on body,
- 31:36Speaker 8: on mind, and on soul. You understand?
- 31:40Speaker 4: What?
- 31:42Speaker 8: So when you watch a film, you're not using all
- 31:45Speaker 8: those dimensions.
- 31:47Speaker 4: Have you seen those movies?
- 31:48Speaker 8: I don't need to see them. I told you, I
- 31:50Speaker 8: lived the real thing.
- 31:51Speaker 4: Okay, so you lived Friday the 13th where a guy
- 31:53Speaker 4: came out of the lake with a spear. Yeah, sure.
- 31:56Speaker 8: I think you should grow up and you should get
- 31:59Speaker 8: out of the box. and stop being narrow-minded, and now
- 32:03Speaker 8: I have a great doubt that you will be a policeman.
- 32:05Speaker 8: Let me tell you something.
- 32:07Speaker 4: You say you've lived it, but you've never seen a
- 32:10Speaker 4: dude come down the road with a chainsaw.
- 32:12Speaker 8: If you put a judgment on an individual whether or
- 32:15Speaker 8: not they can watch a film to take you as
- 32:18Speaker 8: a boyfriend or not, this is a bunch of nonsense.
- 32:22Speaker 8: The bottom line is, a woman wants to know... If
- 32:25Speaker 8: she's dealing with human beings that use all its dimensions
- 32:29Speaker 8: and not part of it.
- 32:30Speaker 4: Are you telling me you saw a guy get up
- 32:32Speaker 4: out of a.
- 32:32Speaker 5: Flaming fire and be alive?
- 32:36Speaker 8: And you don't want to hear anything else.
- 32:38Speaker 4: I'm listening to you. Why don't you go and.
- 32:40Speaker 8: Be an extra in those films? Earn your money that way.
- 32:42Speaker 4: Ma'am, you said that you lived it, and yet I
- 32:44Speaker 4: asked you, did a guy chase you down the road
- 32:46Speaker 4: with a chainsaw wearing a mask made out of somebody's skin?
- 32:49Speaker 4: That makes no sense.
- 32:51Speaker 6: You have no intelligence and no wisdom, and you're not
- 32:54Speaker 6: even willing to listen.
- 32:56Speaker 4: I did listen to you. You said you lived it.
- 32:57Speaker 8: No, you're not listening because you're still stuck in those films.
- 33:00Speaker 8: Why don't you talk about relationships? You said you want
- 33:03Speaker 8: to earn relationship in the future.
- 33:05Speaker 4: Ma'am, you said you lived it, okay? So you saw
- 33:08Speaker 4: a guy tie himself down and allow himself to be
- 33:10Speaker 4: eaten by zombies, right? If you lived it.
- 33:13Speaker 2: She said she lived the kind of horror and violence
- 33:17Speaker 2: that those movies are emblematic of. No, she didn't see
- 33:20Speaker 2: a guy tie himself down and allow himself to be
- 33:22Speaker 2: eaten by zombies. She saw real stuff. When's the last
- 33:26Speaker 2: time a guy actually got eaten by zombies?
- 33:29Speaker 4: What difference does it make?
- 33:30Speaker 3: It makes a big difference.
- 33:32Speaker 2: A cat never tied himself down to get eaten by zombies,
- 33:35Speaker 2: as far as I know.
- 33:35Speaker 4: Well, then obviously you've never seen Day of the Dead,
- 33:38Speaker 4: so you can't say.
- 33:39Speaker 2: Day of the freaking Dead? That ain't even based on
- 33:42Speaker 2: anything real, man. And what do you mean a guy
- 33:44Speaker 2: gets sliced up by laser rays? They don't have any
- 33:47Speaker 2: laser rays down in the Middle East. They don't even,
- 33:50Speaker 2: the freaking guys are throwing rocks down there. What do
- 33:52Speaker 2: you think, the Israelis are walking into laser rays and
- 33:55Speaker 2: getting sliced up?
- 33:56Speaker 4: Mr. Henry, until you've seen Friday the 13th where Kevin
- 34:00Speaker 4: Bacon gets a spear through his neck.
- 34:02Speaker 3: Will you shut up?
- 34:07Speaker 4: Okay, now you've allowed the woman to laugh at me.
- 34:10Speaker 4: You've allowed a woman to laugh at me.
- 34:11Speaker 8: I'm laughing at you.
- 34:12Speaker 4: You've allowed a woman to laugh at me.
- 34:13Speaker 3: I've got to take a break, okay?
- 34:15Speaker 4: Yeah, take a break, Mr. Henry, because the woman has
- 34:17Speaker 4: now laughed at me. The woman has laughed at me.
- 34:19Speaker 3: Are you for real?
- 34:19Speaker 4: The Phil Henry Show is back.
- 34:20Speaker 3: 1-800-449-8686. Okay, that's all I'm saying.
- 34:21Speaker 4: If you can sit through that.
- 34:31Speaker 2: If you can sit through the scene where the dude
- 34:33Speaker 2: is getting eaten by zombies in Day of the Dead,
- 34:35Speaker 2: that's fine, man, but you just heard a cop say
- 34:37Speaker 2: it doesn't have nothing to do with reality.
- 34:39Speaker 3: You just heard a cop say that.
- 34:41Speaker 2: A cop, what you want to be, and you won't
- 34:43Speaker 2: listen to him.
- 34:44Speaker 4: I'm just saying, man, I don't think no cops have
- 34:46Speaker 4: tried it, that's all. It's a new approach.
- 34:50Speaker 2: Okay, man, you go out and find a 30-year veteran
- 34:51Speaker 2: and say, hey, why don't you try sitting through Day
- 34:53Speaker 2: of the Dead without flinching?
- 34:55Speaker 3: Dan, go ahead, you're on a Phil Hendry show.
- 34:57Speaker 7: Yes, I'd like to tell that young man.
- 35:00Speaker 1: First thing I learned....
- 35:03Speaker 4: What? Hey, Dan, why don't you pay your phone bill, man? Oh, man. Oh, yeah,
- 35:09Speaker 4: that was good, man. Come on, you're going to give
- 35:11Speaker 4: me five on that, Mr. Henry. Huh?
- 35:13Speaker 3: It was okay.
- 35:14Speaker 4: Score it. One me, zero Dan. Get your phone fixed, man. Jesus.
- 35:22Speaker 3: You are a smartass. I'll give you that much.
- 35:24Speaker 4: Hey, I'd like to tell a young man something. Click. Yeah, hey, dude,
- 35:29Speaker 4: before you tell me something, how about putting a check
- 35:31Speaker 4: in the envelope, man, for Southern Bell? God, man.
- 35:34Speaker 3: All right, let me go over to Caroline.
- 35:36Speaker 4: Go ahead.
- 35:38Speaker 7: Yeah, I'm having a hard time connecting the dots here,
- 35:40Speaker 7: and it sounds like Dave is, too. But it sounds
- 35:44Speaker 7: to me, Dave, you need to go into another line
- 35:47Speaker 7: of business, maybe the entertainment business. But, you know... I'm
- 35:54Speaker 7: actually afraid for anyone like you to be an officer,
- 35:56Speaker 7: to tell you the truth.
- 35:57Speaker 4: Why? Because I have respect for law and order?
- 36:00Speaker 7: No. You have said not one word about law and order, and.
- 36:03Speaker 4: I'm talking about being able to deal with, you know, ghoulish,
- 36:07Speaker 4: you know, slasher stuff.
- 36:08Speaker 7: And how much of that do you think you're going
- 36:10Speaker 7: to be able to see? I mean, I would think
- 36:12Speaker 7: most of your time would be spent.
- 36:13Speaker 4: The Phil Hendry Show. Born again.
