- 0:17Speaker 2: Welcome to the Effective Data Scientist podcast!
- 0:20Speaker 2: This podcast is designed to help improve your skills, save focus manage successful projects and have fun at work.
- 0:28Speaker 2: Be part of our community –
- 0:30Speaker 0: this
- 0:31Speaker 2: is an independent podcast and the views expressed are our
- 0:43Speaker 1: role.
- 0:48Speaker 1: I'm super happy with this episode because, This episode is the relaunch of The Effective Data Scientist.
- 0:56Speaker 1: i am very excited about it!
- 0:58Speaker 1: Because from the sister podcast The Effectives statistician we have now recorded nearly five hundred episodes and I hope at some point maybe in future We also get to so many episodes and thousands of listeners for this podcast And maybe even more because there are many more data scientists than actually statisticians or maybe statisticians, a subgroup of data scientist I would say.
- 1:27Speaker 1: And i'm very happy that this podcast is starting Because it's not just me Alexander Schacht talking.
- 1:36Speaker 1: we also have two other co-hosts here and with that I wanna hand over to Aziza and then to Polo.
- 1:47Speaker 0: Thank you, Alexander.
- 1:48Speaker 0: It's really nice to recreate or start the episodes.
- 1:53Speaker 0: it is my favorite data science podcast and I am very happy to be a part of that and share my experience with conversations with great data scientists leaders who are involved in this world of data science.
- 2:08Speaker 0: so about me.
- 2:10Speaker 0: i represent research and development statistics and data science global team at Burringer Ingeleheim.
- 2:17Speaker 0: As a non-clinical senior statistician, I support the diverse drug development process by ensuring that every stage from discovery to commercialization is grounded in rigorous data driven decision making.
- 2:32Speaker 0: Additionally i lead the community of practice for design of experiments And my role involves in cross-functional collaboration and effective communication with technical development leaders, R&D scientists and the regulatory affairs.
- 2:49Speaker 0: Previously I worked for Corning Incorporated which is automotive industry.
- 2:54Speaker 0: that part was related to automotive industry because it's a part of Corning Environmental Technologies where I applied statistics and big data analytics to solve complex manufacturing problems, manage projects and accelerated advanced data analytics applications in production defining new roles like Data Scientist.
- 3:16Speaker 0: Super happy to be here!
- 3:17Speaker 0: To be a part of this great team.
- 3:20Speaker 0: And over to Paolo.
- 3:22Speaker 2: Thanks Aziza.
- 3:23Speaker 2: I'm Paolo Eosebi working as senior consultant with iCuvia mainly working leading projects on pressure-reported outcomes for clinical drug development and during my career I had the opportunity to work in different fields related to data science and statistics, also in academia and public sector.
- 3:47Speaker 2: And i saw this space for know-how things in statistics embracing machine learning.
- 3:55Speaker 2: I think it's great when we can combine our statistical expertise, knowledge of measurement error variability together with the technical programming skills and understanding of new skill set like generative AI for example.
- 4:12Speaker 2: AI tools in general... It is a really important moment to us transition And we are now seeing new stuff, impressive stuff for statisticians that can make a difference for consumers and patients.
- 4:26Speaker 2: So I think it's good to be there!
- 4:28Speaker 2: It is always exciting to record the new episodes with new.
- 4:32Speaker 2: people know different paths for the profession so i'm very excited to resume the recordings and meet new people.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Yes...I am also super excited to resumed recording have lots of other guests joining the show to talk about data science across all kind of different fields and speak about the actual problems data scientists have.
- 5:02Speaker 1: That is not just, you know, technical problems like coding problems statistical models AI and topics like that but also how we can apply these things effectively.
- 5:17Speaker 1: All of us work in organizations, can be corporate or maybe other organizations where we need to work with other people.
- 5:27Speaker 1: We rarely work alone isolated just for us... ...we need to convince others with our analysis and we have influence on the organization so that Our work actually changes things because that is in the end a goal.
- 5:49Speaker 1: Any analysis needs to drive the decision whether it's within your group, with any department or organization Or maybe even outside of an organization With clients and the pharma industry regulators or physicians.
- 6:07Speaker 1: patients can be all kind different groups And here its about convincing them of these things that we do.
- 6:16Speaker 1: And maybe, you want to do something new?
- 6:19Speaker 1: Something's there has not been traditionally done in this way.
- 6:22Speaker 1: and when I leverage new analysis ways or different data sets usually means you need to convince others it is worth doing Or change actually makes sense because most people are resistant.
- 6:39Speaker 1: We have always done it that way.
- 6:42Speaker 1: It's probably one of the most quoted sentences in terms of change management, and we see this all kind different forms.
- 6:50Speaker 1: so will also talk about these interpersonal skills quite a lot In the effective statistician.
- 6:58Speaker 1: we already talked and have helped hundreds of thousands listeners, and also trained more than one thousand people on skills around these kinds of different things.
- 7:12Speaker 1: And then let's see what else comes out from the effective data scientist?
- 7:17Speaker 1: Maybe we'll at some point have webinars or maybe will have an online conference... I'm still dreaming!
- 7:24Speaker 1: At some points may be there are offline conferences but this is a lot that might happen just at the start here.
- 7:33Speaker 1: So Aziza, what are your dreams when you think about The Effective Data Scientist?
- 7:39Speaker 0: My dream is to be updated with everything that's happening these days and keep track of my learning because we're living in times where I absolutely have time and to speak with experts, otherwise our knowledge is outdated very fast.
- 8:05Speaker 0: And I think using the podcast Effective Data Scientist will help a lot of people just like me stay updated... ...and i always enjoy listening to conversations with leaders or experts from different areas To see their point-of-view.
- 8:25Speaker 0: my dream would be that they know what's going on to have that feeling, I know what's going on.
- 8:58Speaker 1: across the whole career spectrum.
- 9:00Speaker 1: So we'll definitely talk about more advanced things and fancy things that are maybe sexy for the more experienced people, And will also talk about things that may be more for the people who said they're starting or you might not have a startup but mostly done coding these kind of thing.
- 9:22Speaker 1: Now if want to do more statistical models And that is new for you.
- 9:28Speaker 1: What's New For Someone Is Always Dependent.
- 9:30Speaker 1: Or Maybe You're Coming More From The Statistics Side, and If You Want To Understand Better Certain Coding Skills That Are Maybe For People Who Do Programming All The Time It'S Not New.
- 9:41Speaker 1: Depending On Where You Are In Your Career We Will Touch A Lot Of Different Aspects.
- 9:48Speaker 1: Paolo, what's your dream?
- 9:49Speaker 1: For the Effective Data Scientist?
- 9:52Speaker 2: My Dream Would Be to Create a Community.
- 9:56Speaker 2: I would be really nice to have a community of people sharing ideas and maybe once meeting offline, for example or exchanging ideas day by day.
- 10:07Speaker 2: And meet new people and have some new relationships with people from different backgrounds in the different counties will be pretty nice because we are most often working online meeting people course after really nice to establish some connection.
- 10:27Speaker 1: One hundred percent agree, we will definitely also have beyond of course our home page social media presence specifically linked in.
- 10:37Speaker 1: let's see whether we do other things as well.
- 10:40Speaker 1: I think LinkedIn for sure.
- 10:41Speaker 1: and then of course meeting each other at different conferences.
- 10:46Speaker 1: fun fact.
- 10:47Speaker 1: Paolo and myself got connected over the effective statistician.
- 10:53Speaker 1: Paolo was one of the first persons that listened to the Effective Statistician and sets how we found each other.
- 11:03Speaker 1: as these are, I think it was similar wasn't?
- 11:06Speaker 0: Yes, it was similar.
- 11:07Speaker 0: And when I started my career at Böringer Engelheim as a non-clinical statistician... ...I had zero idea what non-clinical statisticians does!
- 11:16Speaker 0: I searched on the internet.
- 11:17Speaker 0: What is this?
- 11:18Speaker 0: What does that
- 11:19Speaker 0: mean?!
- 11:19Speaker 0: But i didn't find anything more effective than listening to your podcast.. ..I saw that's at that time.
- 11:25Speaker 0: My manager at Böhringer Englheim shared you're podcast and I looked.
- 11:30Speaker 0: all these looks very interesting and they would scrolled All the episodes an.
- 11:35Speaker 0: I found two episodes on non-clinical statistician and it was very interesting.
- 11:42Speaker 0: It opened my eyes to what I'm going to do at Böhringer Engelheim as a non clinical statistician, And i fell in love with the episode because they were super effective there.
- 11:52Speaker 0: where exactly?
- 11:55Speaker 0: that's how we became fans of your podcast.
- 11:58Speaker 0: Now here are connections.
- 12:04Speaker 1: As a listener, you can hopefully share our enthusiasm or excitement for relaunching this podcast and that in the future on regular basis.
- 12:17Speaker 1: You will get updates to help your job be more effective both from technical point of view as well as non-technical points of view so that you have great career experience in your job and maybe also at some point get others along.
- 12:38Speaker 1: And if you like this podcast, what is all about?
- 12:42Speaker 1: There's a couple of podcasts episodes already!
