- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset coach, creative strategist, and also happen to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30So we're going to talk today about saving, and you might be
- 0:34thinking I'm talking about saving money because that's
- 0:36where the word saving comes in with most people.
- 0:39I need to save more money and I need to manage my money and all
- 0:43these things. But I'm not talking about saving
- 0:44money, I'm talking about saving time.
- 0:47And saving time to me is the most important thing because
- 0:52when you recognize how precious time is, you all of a sudden
- 0:56change your whole dynamic and how you interact in the world.
- 0:59And time to me is one of those things.
- 1:03I got to be honest. I mean, I, I do a lot during a
- 1:07day and I am up early. I work my butt off and I am
- 1:12constantly moving and there are so many little details in the
- 1:17day that I have to pay attention to in order to keep everything
- 1:21flowing and moving. Well, one of those big things is
- 1:24being able to be efficient with time.
- 1:27And I think it's one of the most overlooked things that I can.
- 1:31I can really say in coaching, one of the first things that I
- 1:35work on with people is, all right, are you managing time?
- 1:37Like where is all your time going?
- 1:39What are you, you know, spend your time doing?
- 1:42All of those things make such a huge, tremendous difference.
- 1:46And when you start doing a time analysis to save time to say,
- 1:51OK, where is this time going? Where do I have to put my energy
- 1:53to and things like that. All of a sudden you start to
- 1:56have a very different approach, let's say to your, your day,
- 2:01your week, your month. And I like to break it down like
- 2:04this. I really do think of it in terms
- 2:06of days, weeks, months when I'm looking at it.
- 2:09So today I will be spreading out my entire week of what who want
- 2:13to get done because I had it all planned out for Friday and then
- 2:17I learned something that's happening this week.
- 2:19My husband is going to be taking a class next weekend.
- 2:23I didn't know about this, but this is going to engulf his
- 2:25entire weekend. So that changes my trajectory of
- 2:28what I've got to get done and just because it allows me the
- 2:33functionality to do some different things than I might
- 2:35normally have done during those times.
- 2:38And my son is in an apprenticeship and that requires
- 2:41me to drive him certain times. So you know, I have to rebalance
- 2:48my week, if you will. So when considering this, when
- 2:53you're considering saving time, it's not just about doing an
- 2:57inventory of the tasks and who you know what you're doing and
- 3:01all of that. What it's really about is am I
- 3:03efficient with my time? Am I doing things in a way that
- 3:07allows me to be ultimately efficient?
- 3:10And sometimes we don't. Like I will tell you one of the
- 3:14things that I am super efficient with is how I get ready and come
- 3:18out and do this and how I get the chickens ready in the
- 3:20morning and all of that. Like I don't have to think about
- 3:23things because I planned it out. I tried it a bunch of different
- 3:25ways. I see exactly what works and
- 3:28then I run with it that way makes a big difference.
- 3:32Huge difference as a matter of fact, because I, I've cut down
- 3:36probably I would say a good 25 minutes on my morning tasks by
- 3:41being efficient and having things ready ahead of time,
- 3:45spreading things out differently, having having
- 3:48myself set up so that I can get out and do those things
- 3:52differently. And I think when you are looking
- 3:55at all of your tasks, when you're looking at the stuff that
- 3:58you are, can you hear them squabbling right now that that
- 4:01was all over a little piece of salmon.
- 4:03So when you're when you're looking at all of your tasks and
- 4:07there are tasks on the list that you don't like to do, those
- 4:11tasks will be the ones that tend to take you longer if you don't
- 4:15approach it with a different outlook.
- 4:17So if there's something there that you do not, you know, you
- 4:20do not like to do it. I don't care if it's folding
- 4:23laundry, making beds, going shopping for groceries, whatever
- 4:29it is, it will take you longer because you don't like to do it
- 4:32If unless you acknowledge that, OK, I know I don't like to do
- 4:36this. I have to be be more efficient
- 4:38and asking the right question. What do I need to do in order to
- 4:42make this easier, better, more tolerable?
- 4:46Any kind of fun? What do I need to do in order to
- 4:50shift that and feel better about it?
- 4:52And when you start asking the right questions, you can.
- 4:54So like for me, I don't, I don't like shopping.
- 4:57I hate shopping, but I love it if I can go when there's nobody
- 5:02else there. And that was a distinction I
- 5:04came up with a long time ago. So I don't mind going and doing
- 5:08grocery shopping, but I want to be like the first one in the
- 5:10store. I don't mind going and, you
- 5:13know, looking for, you know, all the supplies I need for the
- 5:17animals. But I don't want to go if
- 5:19there's a crowd. I don't want to wait in line.
- 5:20I don't want to feel constricted in my time and that someone's
- 5:24stealing my time because I have to wait in line or I have to sit
- 5:27in traffic. So just like my son does not
- 5:30have to be to work or to his apprenticeship until early like
- 5:35little bit later in the morning, 7:30.
- 5:37But I dropped him off at 7 in order to beat the traffic.
- 5:40And so he found out a few other other of the other guys are also
- 5:45doing that so that they can beat the traffic because there's a
- 5:47distinct difference between getting there at 7:30 and
- 5:51getting there at 7. The traffic is nonexistent when
- 5:55we leave our house at 6:30. It is completely and totally
- 5:59bombed if we leave our house 15 minutes later.
- 6:02So these are the things you look for and you try to grab it back.
- 6:06And hopefully this is helpful and you give it a try.
- 6:08All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I
- 6:11will see you tomorrow. Bye.
