- 0:01Hey. Everybody, welcome to the Good
- 0:03Morning from the Chicken Coop podcast.
- 0:05My name is Kim Johnson and I am a mastermindset, coach, creative
- 0:08strategist, and also happened to be a farmer.
- 0:11This is my Chicken coop and I come out here.
- 0:13Every day to record a podcast to.
- 0:15Teach distinctions, possibilities, new ways of
- 0:18thinking, and just bring some joy into the world.
- 0:21So welcome to the coop and let's start your day off in a
- 0:24fantastic way. Hey everybody, good morning.
- 0:29So I have a funny story to tell you that just happened and it
- 0:33was not what I was going to record for today, but it just is
- 0:36so appropriate. So I had a fraud on my credit
- 0:40card. I had to get a new one sent to
- 0:44me. And you know, they come in and
- 0:45they have the little sticker on them that says, you know, please
- 0:48activate your card or this one happened to say your card is all
- 0:51ready to use because it was a business card and I could
- 0:54activate it a different way. So I was like, OK, so I get the
- 0:57card and I'm sitting there and I have to go on.
- 0:59And of course, when you have credit card fraud, you have to
- 1:02go and change all the things that are on auto pay on that
- 1:05credit card. So one of my bills that was
- 1:09overnight got an e-mail saying hey, this is due.
- 1:13It didn't pass. Please update your information.
- 1:15So I go to do it and I pick up the card.
- 1:18It's sitting on my on my top of my computer.
- 1:20I knew I had to do it today. And I pull off the sticky tab
- 1:24and when you pull it off it rounds into it like a little
- 1:27tube, but the sticky stuff is on the outside.
- 1:29Now it's important to realize I have pets everywhere as many of
- 1:33you know. And the cat is always with me in
- 1:36the morning, always with me in the morning.
- 1:38She sits on my lap. She sits staring at the
- 1:40computer. She loves to watch what I'm
- 1:42doing on the computer. So she sees this little round
- 1:45thing stick sticking there. And of course she can't not
- 1:48touch it because it's like that old like, oh, I'm going to touch
- 1:52it. And then it sticks to her.
- 1:53And then she gets mad and she can't get it off.
- 1:56So I go to reach for it and she swats me.
- 1:59Now I'm trying to help her and I'm like, Belle, stop.
- 2:03And I'm trying to take it off of her and she runs.
- 2:05And then I hear her like I thought she got it off because
- 2:09she took off. Well, no, now it's stuck on her
- 2:11back leg and she's running. And I'm like, Belle, come here
- 2:15and I'm chasing the cat in the house trying to be quiet because
- 2:18everyone else is sleeping because it's 4:30 in the morning
- 2:20when this is all happening. And I'm like Belle, belle,
- 2:23belle, belle, Belle. And I'm trying to help her and
- 2:25she just is resistant over and over and over again.
- 2:28So finally she runs into the guest bathroom and I, I have to
- 2:33tackle her to get the sticky thing off the back over a leg.
- 2:36And then I take it off and she swats me because she's mad.
- 2:40And it got me thinking so much. I'm like, because I'm talking to
- 2:44her out loud. Of course.
- 2:45I'm like, I'm trying to help you, I'm trying to help you, I'm
- 2:48trying to help you. And I thought, how many times do
- 2:50we as people go through this in our life where we are trying to
- 2:53help somebody and we have the best intentions, but they think
- 2:57we are being too pushy. Now she clearly needed the help.
- 3:01She doesn't have thumbs. She can't just pull it off.
- 3:04And here I am running around chasing her, trying to figure
- 3:06out how I'm going to get her to stop long enough so that I can
- 3:10take this thing off of her. And I'm saying I'm trying to
- 3:12help you. I'm trying to help you.
- 3:14But she didn't want the help. She wanted the outcome, but she
- 3:17didn't want the help. She just wanted it off of her.
- 3:20And she certainly didn't like that I was chasing her, so I was
- 3:24making it worse. But I know I wasn't going to get
- 3:27it off of her unless I was able to track her down because maybe
- 3:31she didn't understand. How many times does this show up
- 3:34in our life with the humans we're dealing with?
- 3:36Forget about the fact that she's a cat.
- 3:38How many times does this show up in the world of humans?
- 3:42You've got somebody, they're trying to help you or you're
- 3:45trying to help somebody and you're just showing up in a way.
- 3:48They're showing up in a way and you, you're just not jiving.
- 3:51You're not like clicking. You're not In Sync.
- 3:54This happens so much, so much. So this is just a friendly
- 3:59reminder that if you were going to offer help, it is critical.
- 4:02It is critical that you make sure that the person understands
- 4:06you want to help and they want the help.
- 4:09You want to help and they want the help.
- 4:11But you have to start off by saying I would like to help you.
- 4:14Would you be OK with that? Would you allow me to help you
- 4:18and then see where they are? Because you don't want to be
- 4:21like me, like a foolish nut running around all this time
- 4:24chasing a cat down a hall trying to get her to help and saying
- 4:26I'm trying to help you, I'm trying to help you.
- 4:28And she does not care a hoot about my help.
- 4:31What she cared about was get this off me.
- 4:34And she was shaking herself trying to get it off, but it
- 4:36wasn't going to work. And eventually because I tackled
- 4:40her, which she clearly didn't like, that was it.
- 4:43But where else does that show up?
- 4:44Because sometimes we just ram stuff down people's throat and
- 4:47it only makes it worth. So I'm just reminding everybody
- 4:51today, don't chase the cat and ask the questions.
- 4:55All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I'll
- 4:57see you tomorrow. Bye.
