- Lucas: Hey Luna, ready for another Dutch adventure? Luna: Absolutely! I've been practicing 'Ik ben ziek' from last time... but I hope I don't need it today. Lucas: Ohh, right, the doctor episode. Hopefully you're feeling better today. Luna: Totally fine! So what are we learning today? Lucas: Today we're getting around town. Transport words: bus, tram, and trein. Luna: Oh nice! I've seen those trams everywhere in Amsterdam. Lucas: Exactly. Let's start with 'de bus'. Luna: De bus. Lucas: Yes! 'De bus' means the bus. 'De' is the article. Luna: De bus. Got it. Lucas: Now, 'de tram'. Luna: De tram. Lucas: Perfect. And 'de trein'. Luna: De trein. That one sounds like 'train'. Lucas: Yeah, it does. Easy to remember. So we have de bus, de tram, de trein. Luna: De bus, de tram, de trein. What about a sentence? Lucas: Great question. Let's say 'Ik neem de bus.' — I take the bus. Luna: Ik neem de bus. Lucas: Yes! 'Neem' comes from 'nemen' — to take. Luna: Ik neem de bus. So if I take the tram, I say 'Ik neem de tram'? Lucas: Exactly right. Luna: Ik neem de tram. Lucas: And for train: 'Ik neem de trein.' Luna: Ik neem de trein. That's easy. Lucas: Now let's add a question. 'Gaat deze tram naar het station?' — Does this tram go to the station? Luna: Wow, that's longer. 'Gaat deze tram naar het station?' Lucas: Yes. 'Gaat' is goes, 'deze' is this, 'naar' is to, 'het station' is the station. Luna: Gaat deze tram naar het station? Lucas: You've got it. So if you're at a tram stop and you're not sure, you ask that. Luna: What if I want to ask about the bus? Lucas: Just change 'tram' to 'bus': 'Gaat deze bus naar het station?' Luna: Gaat deze bus naar het station? And for train: 'Gaat deze trein naar het station?' Lucas: Yes! But careful — for train, you'd usually say 'deze trein' too, but trains are often specific. It works. Luna: Okay. Let me practice all three. 'Ik neem de bus.' 'Ik neem de tram.' 'Ik neem de trein.' Lucas: Excellent! And the question? Luna: 'Gaat deze tram naar het station?' Lucas: Yeah! Let's do a quick scene. Imagine you're at a tram stop and you see a tram coming. Luna: Okay, I'll ask: 'Gaat deze tram naar het station?' Lucas: And I'll answer: 'Ja, deze tram gaat naar het station.' Luna: Oh, so 'ja' and then the same words. 'Ja, deze tram gaat naar het station.' Lucas: Yes! Or if it doesn't: 'Nee, deze tram gaat niet naar het station.' Luna: Nee, deze tram gaat niet... with 'niet' for not? Lucas: Exactly. But let's stick with the positive for now. Luna: Good. So 'Ik neem de bus.' 'Ik neem de tram.' 'Ik neem de trein.' And 'Gaat deze tram naar het station?' Lucas: Perfect summary. Let's hear them all one more time. Luna: De bus, de tram, de trein. Ik neem de bus. Ik neem de tram. Ik neem de trein. Gaat deze tram naar het station? Lucas: Wow, you nailed it. Now you can get around like a local. Luna: Aww thanks Lucas. I'm going to practice this on my way to work tomorrow. Lucas: That's the spirit. Remember, practice makes progress. And if you're ever lost, just ask 'Gaat deze tram naar het station?' Luna: Yeah yeah yeah. And then I'll hop on and say 'Ik neem de tram.' Lucas: There you go. That's it for today's episode of Learn Dutch with Fexingo. Luna: Keep practicing, and we'll see you next time! Doei! Lucas: Doei!
