Transcript
- 0:01Be SAVAGE on this week's show.
- 0:06Guess who was the only one and the only one that did it for almost a year? I did. I was making, like, $14 an hour. Sacrifices, baby. Oh, sacred. That's what I like to hear on these shows. Twenty three days in a row, one day, caught a headache, ended up in the hospital. I didn't care. I got up the next day, I went right back to it. Nothing stopped. I wanted it.
- 0:23In three, two, one. I'm DJ Enuff. I'm DJ Camilo.
- 0:27I'm DJ Kast One. And I'm Len Boogs, a.k.a. L. Boogs. Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, everyone worldwide, this is the Heavy Hitter DJs Podcast.
- 0:42We back, y'all. We back. We are back in the... I was gonna say the building, but we're back. The Heavy Hitter DJs podcast, crowd mover, L. Boogs, roll call it.
- 0:50Y'all got it. Big Spanish DJ Enuff. Party rocker Heavy Hitter DJ Camilo.
- 0:55And DJ Kast One. What's up, buddy? What What up? We welcome our guy out of Brooklyn, USA, DJ Carlito.
- 1:03You gotta say yes.
- 1:05Yeah. We had a DJ Carlito in the building. You know what's crazy? It's Boogs. Is that the ratings king?
- 1:12Yo. Right? You see how I said that earlier. I said that earlier.
- 1:16And it it is funny because his name is the only name that I can't say the r. I have to say Carlito because that's how he sells it. You know what mean? Oh, shit. Okay. No. But before we get started, Carlito, is that a bedazzled You already know, guys.
- 1:30What about you, Do coffee cup, bro? No.
- 1:33No. It's it's water. You know? Like, water, you know, the the the... I call it the transformer because you don't know what's in here.
- 1:40Don't I don't like that. Fire. Carlito said that he got the check. We're put my name on it. You know what mean? Dude, man. So, Carlito, real quick before we get into it. For anybody who's never said hello to you and and metrics, etcetera, etcetera, let the world know real quick. My name is DJ Carlito. I represent... Go ahead. Javier, DJ Carlito from Bushwick, Brooklyn, Puerto Rican, you know, representing Brooklyn.
- 2:01So the day I die, baby, we're here.
- 2:03Yeah.
- 2:04And and and Carlito, you have a... You you you... The way the way you ended up being down with the most gracious crew in the world was something that I remember, man. I remember. I remember. Was something that you spoke to probably everybody on the screen about. Yes. And and then and then you went ahead. Enuff. Right?
- 2:20Enuff was was the... I think Enuff was like, yo, Carlito, bro. Like, he's been asked.
- 2:26Let me tell you something. Hold up a second. We gotta tell the story correctly because I I give Carlito... I bring him up every time. I give him the biggest trophy of just staying there through the thick and thin to be done with the crew because it took them not one year, two year, three year, four... It took them about six years. Well, six years if you wanna name it that way.
- 2:48Yeah. Yeah. That I that I started pursuing it, but it was fourteen years prior that I wanted it. God. Yeah. God. No. No.
- 2:55Damn. And I always bring them up knew that. And I always bring them up because I look at other Heavy Hitters that wanna get down, and I bring in Carlito as an example. I said, listen, man. There's a guy in a crew named DJ Carlito.
- 3:05He does La Mega every day. He's on fire.
- 3:08But, you know, respectfully, the timing wasn't right for whatever reason it was, but he held his ground. He let it be known he wanted to be down.
- 3:16He's... He was on me. He was showing up my club. He was on Enuff, pause, showing up, you know, hitting up the crew constantly. At one point... I don't wanna tell the story because he can tell the story, but at one point, other other other crews hollered at him. He said, thank you so much. Yep.
- 3:32If it's not a Heavy Hitter But no.
- 3:34Thank you. This is what I want. And, you know, you you could tell us all about it. Like... No. You know, you're... It's it's... You know, when I first started, like, hitting the club scene, you know, Heavy Hitter, Heavy Hitters, you know, I started noticing the unity, the family, that it wasn't just a DJ crew. So, of course, this is who you wanna be with. You know what I mean? I wanna be with a family, with a unity. I don't... I just don't wanna be with a DJ crew. We're not just a DJ crew. We're a family. You know what I'm saying? So throughout the years, I just like... That's my goal. I'm gonna become a Heavy Hitter. I'm gonna become a Heavy Hitter. You know? I asked around what I had to do. I was told what I had to do, like Camilo said, you know, for whatever purposes or... It was that it didn't happen.
- 4:13I was told what to do and what to continue to do to, you know, eventually get it. Right. I said, no problem. I did it. And guess what? Now I'm a Heavy Hitter. Yes, sir. And and and I'll be honest with you. Like like, I'm proud to have Carlito down because Me too. He's he's he's the type of guy that that that that that I want everybody to to follow that that that that lead. Like, yo.
- 4:36Okay. The word, they dissed me this year.
- 4:38Well, now I wanna use the word this, but, know, it didn't happen this year. I'm a stick to my guns and show these motherfuckers that this... I'm about this. And and, you know, respectfully, it's what happened.
- 4:48I always say it. If you want it, you gotta get it. Mhmm. If you don't get it here, you'll get it over here.
- 4:53Don't give up. You know what I mean?
- 4:54You can't give up. If you really want it, then you gotta do what you gotta do to get it. That's it. Right. Well, let's take it let's take it back to when Carlito was born, man. How did this...
- 5:03I ask everybody, how does this DJ shit happen? Do you love it? Do you regret it? You know, take us through the ups and downs. Like, what was your first CD or record you bought? When when did the DJ Carlito thing, like, boom? Was it hip hop? Was it reggaeton? Was it salsa?
- 5:19Like So, you know, growing up in Puerto Rico, my parents were always into the music.
- 5:23They used to take me to festival, what we call fiestas patronales Right. And and and things like that. And I was always into the music, so I will be that little kid that would dare to go up and stage and dance with artists like El Gran Combo, Elvis Crespo, Grupomanía, and all those people.
- 5:38I love it. Came into New York in 1989, and we're still doing the same thing with local people who would do, like, you know, things in front of, like, bodegas. You know?
- 5:47And I will come and I would dance.
- 5:49Shortly after that, when I when I was 14, I met my boy, Victor. He's Salvadorian.
- 5:54He was a DJ. So I started carrying his, his amp rack, the speakers. You know, I was just, you know, his his his rodeo. You know what mean? So little by little, I was just like, yo. I wanna learn this, man. And I started, you know, pressing... Remember the Gemini mixers with, like, the with the sound effects in it and all that? Yep. So I started, like, doing like that. That's how I started. With the lasers.
- 6:14Right. You... With the lasers, the bomb. You really wanna learn? And I said, yeah. So little by little, he taught me. Then after that, I bought my own equipment. I bought two fifteen inch Geminis this tall. Crazy. With a amp rack. I think I paid, like like, a thousand dollars because the guy didn't want it anymore. And I used to go to baby showers and sweet sixteens carrying that with the rack and everything. And then in 2007, you know, that was when really, like, took the next step level to the highest.
- 6:46My boy, young aunt, you know, he's black and Puerto Rican, but he he knew hip hop. So I knew about the reggaeton.
- 6:53And he brought me in to do thirty minute sets, you know, until... You remember Remy in Astoria, Queens? Yeah. We fucking How could we forget? Right. So I started in Remy Lounge in Astoria, Queens doing thirty minute reggaeton sets with the knob ring mixer. They didn't know really what to do until I learned it. And then from there on, it was just... I learned the culture of hip hop more than what I already knew.
- 7:16And then all of a sudden, became a hip hop DJ.
- 7:19And I was doing a lot of hip hop parties, a lot of hip hop parties, a lot of hip hop parties. Right. Fast fast forward to 2012, I started interning for AJ at Gallejero, and I inter he work? He he work.
- 7:31He he he... Right? Yeah. No. He went...
- 7:33He was in La Kalle. He was in Univision, then he went to Las Vegas.
- 7:37And then he came back into New York to our sister station, Amor. Mhmm. I became his intern, and then he went to Mega, and then he just That's crazy. AJ was my intern. That's crazy.
- 7:47Yeah. So AJ did his little thing and helped me get in into the promotions department at La Mega. Did that for four and a half years.
- 7:552019, I got the call to to to batter up into the 7 to midnight slot, which was DJ Lobos, Jinx Paul, rest in peace. So that was like that was like... Let me see. That was about a seven year journey until you hit. Now now that's now that's a crazy jump to go from being on a street team with somebody calling you up to do 7 every day. So they they, you know, they already must have been... You must have been on their radar already. Like, okay. We have somebody in the truck that could do what we need to be done. Right? Yeah.
- 8:22So what it was is that I was the go to guy. You know what I mean? Like, I I risked for about a year, one Saturday a month for my boss.
- 8:30He put all the DJs together, and he was like, well, I need y'all to sacrifice one Saturday a month to cover the overnight shift. Guess who was the only one and the only one that did it for almost a year? I did. So Yeah. Dope. So I was So as I was going to the club and making money, you were you were on the radio Saturday night. I was making I was making, like, $14 an hour.
- 8:50Sacrifices, baby. Nah. Sacrifices. That's what I like to hear on these shows first. And then and then after that, whenever somebody called out, you will call me, and I was the yes man. I I didn't care about... I was working Red Bull at the time and working Red Bull, working the station twenty three days in a row one day, caught a headache, ended up in the hospital. I didn't care.
- 9:08I got up the next day, and I went right back to it. Nothing stopped. I wanted it. Right. You know what I mean?
- 9:13So No. But I I get that because that's part of it. It's like, yo. Watch.
- 9:16It's gonna pay off at some point. Mhmm.
- 9:18You you you don't... You... Nothing is promised, but, you know Right. If I put in the work, they're gonna notice. And like Kast said, it's like, yeah. This guy is not a full timer, but every time we need him, the guy answers the phone. You know what I mean? Correct. Correct. But that was...
- 9:29Go ahead, Camilo. This business, like, I've learned, like, the yes men are the ones that fucking make it, bro. Right.
- 9:36Like, I was When you say yes to everything. Yeah. Say yes to everything. When I was at Hot, I say yes to everything.
- 9:41Right. And then I was like, okay. Yeah.
- 9:43Alright. I'll be there. Oh, whatever. And in all and in all reality, it wasn't kissing nothing. You know what I mean? I just I wanted it. It's hustle. It's the work.
- 9:51It's the grind. It's burning at work, bro.
- 9:53Like, hey. At at the at the at the station, man, I work eight days a week. And I wear, like, seven different hats.
- 9:59You know what mean? But it is what it is. It's part of the move. Yeah.
- 10:02Now let's let's backtrack. Was radio your goal?
- 10:05Was that your goal? Absolutely. So in '2 so in two thousand and nine two thousand and nine, someone interviewed, a friend of mine. His name is Ramon Mon Black. He interviewed, and the interview is in YouTube.
- 10:19And he said, where do you see yourself five years from now? And I told him radio. Radio.
- 10:26It was... It it was a year after, but, you know, that was the goal. The ultimate goal was I wanted the radio. I wanted the radio.
- 10:33I wanted the radio. Were you always a student of the radio game? Because you do it very well. You know what mean? Or was it just something you just grab along the way? It was just a grab a...
- 10:42Grab along the way. Yeah.
- 10:44I didn't know nothing. Nothing. Nothing. I just watched.
- 10:48I observed, sank it in, learned it. Messed up a few times. I remember my first time overnight.
- 10:54My hands were like somebody threw a bottle of water in my hand. I was so nervous. Yep. I was so... I didn't sound confident at all. Now were you were you...
- 11:02When it was your first overnight, were you DJing, or were you doing the the... What they call in radio is a jock, which is basically No. I was DJing with DJ.
- 11:09Oh, yeah. So you were DJing overnights? Yep.
- 11:11Wow. Yeah. Yep. Yep. Yep. My whole... The whole shift was mixing? That's dope. Yeah. The whole shift. Yep. Oh, okay. I talked to five in the morning. Yeah. And my boss don't like prerecorded.
- 11:21He don't believe in prerecorded. He he wants it live live and direct right there. So Yeah. But you changed the game when it came to being a jock on that Spanish station, bro. Yeah. I heard you speak, and I was like, this guy's amazing, bro. Yeah.
- 11:35You know what you know what it is, Steve? To me, that's what made you who you are. Because he knows how to actually talk on the radio. Right? Right. That's it, Boogs. And you know what it is? I got my own style, and I wanna be myself. I don't wanna be or sound like anyone else. There's a lot of people that want to be and sound like other people, and that's the reason why they fail. My...
- 11:53To... You know, my opinion. You know what I mean? Maybe that's some other people think not, but I just think that you gotta be you gotta be yourself. Sound like yourself.
- 12:01100%. It's like it's like it's like when you look at your, you know, your DJ guy, like, that you look up to, like, oh my god. Well, you know, I wanna be like him. But then, you know, at some point, you learn from that, but you can't be that guy. You gotta be You can't do exactly like it. No. But Carlito, I've had family members of mine that met you, and then they're like like, the Carlito in person? Then they go, no way. That's the same guy from the radio. You know what mean? Yo. I love that shit right there. I'll be like, yeah. That's Carlito. You've been listening to him for man long. Now you met him. Yeah. You know, like... At home, you used to... Your your first speaking language, I'm assuming, was Spanish? Oh, yeah. Definitely Spanish. My parents, they they they barely talk English. Mhmm. Okay. Because, you know, when you're on that radio, when you're on that box, bro, the way you flip Spanish to English... Yeah.
- 12:46Fact. And that's and that's what and that's what and that's what, our national program director, you know, always give him the the the big salute, Jesus Salas.
- 12:56He he's... He always said it. He loves the fact my my Nuyorican style. Mhmm.
- 13:02The flat... I flip both languages into one to the other. Flawless. It becomes different. You know what I mean? And it's just like, I was asked in in many interviews, like, who inspire me? And I always say it, and it's not because I'm a Heavy Hitter.
- 13:14It's not because y'all own this right now.
- 13:15It's... I always said it was Camilo, Alex, and Enuff. You know what I mean? Never been afraid to say it. Would never be afraid to say it. And, again, I'm not saying it because I'm a Heavy Hitter, and y'all own this, but the facts is the facts. Alex is a pioneer in the Spanish.
- 13:29You guys are the pioneers in the English.
- 13:31You know what I mean? Yeah. There's other DJs respect to all of them, but my preference too was... You know what mean? I remember, bro, taking a shower in in... On Sundays and listening to Camilo's so they could go out.
- 13:42Know what I'm saying? I had the radio on blast, and Camilo was on. You know what mean? Living living... Listen. '05, '06.
- 13:49six. Y'all live that. Living in Stockholm Street in Bushwick. You know what I mean? So I don't... I ain't afraid to say it.
- 13:54You know mean? Applause. I I get I get to I get to do I get to do a podcast with three people I look up to. You know what I mean?
- 14:00So it is what it is. I've done this. I remember I remember when I met Boogs too and and Deep with Precise. Yeah, bro. You know what I'm saying? The good day. The good old days. Those are the big days as people say. Deep was legendary, bro. There would never be a Sunday party like Deep. Ever. Oh my god. Never. And you know what's crazy? Speaking about clubs, I...
- 14:18When you... I couldn't remember the name of the club because I was like, yo. I remember. I vividly remember this moment because I didn't really know who you were. Right?
- 14:25I really didn't know, like like that. Like, I had heard your name, but I didn't know who you were. So we were at...
- 14:29What was that club in Queens you said it was called? The first one? Remy? Remy?
- 14:32Remy. Remy used to be right off of by... Astoria Boulevard. Astoria Boulevard.
- 14:38Yeah. Astoria Boulevard. Yeah. By by by on the Northern side. Right? On the side of...
- 14:42I remember I was doing it one night, and you were DJing there that night too.
- 14:46And you came up to me and you're like, yo, bro. I wanna be a Heavy Hitter. I wanna be down. Blah blah blah blah. I'm in my head. Like, I'm like, yeah. Yeah. I'm like, who... In my head, I'm like, yo. Who is this guy? Like, what the heck? I don't even know who this guy is. But he's like... He was, like, so confident with it and so forward.
- 14:59Like, yo, bro. Listen. Boom. This is what I do. Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah. I'm a be a Heavy Hitter. Blah.
- 15:04He laid the whole shit out for me, and alright. Cool. And then I remember asking, maybe it was Precise or it might have been somebody. And I like, yo. You know who DJ Carlito is? And he was like, oh, yeah. Carlito from Brooklyn. He's dope. He's nice. He's good.
- 15:18He's... Whatever whatever. And I was just like, and I was like, alright. Cool. He said this. And I just... I never forgot that.
- 15:22Because sometimes some things you forget, but that...
- 15:24For some reason, I never forgot that moment.
- 15:26Because I was like, yo. And I'm trying to remember what club it was, but now that you said it was Remy, I was like, yes. Astoria, right off Northern. And I remember it when you said it to me. And I... And then the the the years down the line when you finally became a Heavy Hitter, I was like, yo. I remember when he was like, yo. This is what I'm gonna do. Blah blah blah blah.
- 15:44And here he goes. You know, I never told you that before, but I never forgot that either. No. I appreciate it. Appreciate it.
- 15:49Something... You know, it just it just inspired me to continue to work harder because I never get... Me, it's like I tell people, I'm not in competition with nobody. I'm in competition with myself. And every day, I just look at what I'm gonna do, what's my next move, no matter where I'm at because you just never know. You know what I mean? Fact. I was I was mistaken about Carlito because they would bring up Carlito's name, and I'm like, yo. He's already down with somebody. And they'd be like, no. He's not.
- 16:11I'm like, yo. I would argue that you were down with a crew, and I was so off. Sounds about right. At one point, I was, but it was... You know?
- 16:19And I was... Because I was so against that, and then everybody was like, you know, but but we're glad you... How do you keep, how do you keep your connection between being here and then the Puerto Rico side of things? How do you keep that connection going?
- 16:31You know, it's just... I I always keep it... Like like I said, it's always... I'm never I'm never not working. You know what I mean? I... I'm never not working. I'm always, you know, networking around and seeing what I can do here, what I can do over here, over here, and over here. You know what I mean? Because the problem is that if you just stick and focus on one thing, you're never gonna grow. Mhmm. You know what I'm saying? So I have a conference call on Monday with someone, who just... He was just named assist... Something with coaching for the Lakers. His name is Pooh. I'm I'm pretty sure you guys are aware of who he is. He...
- 17:03He's he's managing, some artists, and he wants to, you know what I mean, link up with me. They're like the LA Mexican type stuff. You know? Sound dope? So, you know, that's the type of connections I'm... You know what I mean? And like I was saying, with the the whole Dalvin La Melodía, I work closely with Elvis Martínez. You know what I mean? So I'm getting connections now to the Dominican Republic. Got it. You know? So So not only Puerto Rico. It's... I'm trying to go worldwide. And what... And and and no... And what I like about you too, no matter how much growth and how many connections and how big your name gets, you always stick to Bushwick's finest. And I and I... You know what mean? Yeah. At first, I used to wanna call you and be like, yo. Stop using this shit. You're bigger than that. But I get it. I get it. And no matter what you're doing moving forward, we used to want people to know I'm Puerto Rican. I rep Bushwick, etcetera, etcetera.
- 17:46And I like Bushwick hard. Oh, that's what I'm saying. He reps Bushwick hard body, dawg.
- 17:52Carlito, so so... Okay. So you started 7 midnight, 7, but let's talk about when you got offered at 3.
- 18:00So it's... Because it's funny That's a whole another ballgame.
- 18:03It's funny because I'm sitting actually in the chair that I was that I that I was sitting that day. I got the phone call 12/22/2024 and... Of '20 '23. I'm sorry. 2023.
- 18:15And I I see my boss calling me.
- 18:17I'm like, ugh. What does he want? You know? Because, you know, he's calling you. I What I do. You know? What did he hear? So he's like, hey. We wanna move you to the 3 slot.
- 18:28Are you up for it? And I didn't even think twice. I said, of course. Mind you, I was still working on my other job. I didn't care the time. I didn't...
- 18:35I was like, yeah. Of course. Hell yeah.
- 18:37I'm in. He's like, alright. Get ready. In January, you're coming in. Wow. So, you know, I I... At at that time, when I hung up, my eyes got watery. I went upstairs, and I went and told my girl. I'm like, yo. Guess what?
- 18:50She's like, what? I said, yo. They they...
- 18:52They're gonna move me to 3. She's like, what? Oh my god. She was happy. She was very happy. She was happy because the... A lot of people don't know this.
- 19:01I mean, guys who've been on radio know that being in a relationship and and, you know, being in the radio and coming home late, it was a challenge for me, you know, from 2019 all the way to 2024 when I first started at 3. You know what I mean? Brought me problems, arguments, possible breakups. Mhmm. But I told her, was like, stick by me. This is just... You know, you gotta stick by me, and we're gonna we're gonna get through this. And this is gonna pay off in the long run.
- 19:28So when it happened, I told her, you see what I told you? It paid off.
- 19:31And now she's extremely happy because I'm I'm
- 19:34home at 7: 30 in the in the night after night. You know? So So that that changed. Like, did you have to switch up your your style, your format, the different play? Right. Were you more less aggressive? I I don't know. You know?
- 19:46home at 7: So at the... So remember, seven to midnight is more of a mix show. When I dropped down to the 3, it became a...
- 19:52home at 7: More of a mix slash talk show with a... With my with my cohost.
- 19:57home at 7: And I had to adapt to what the whole game plan was. At the beginning, it was a little challenging because what the station wanted and what we wanted wasn't clicking, but then we just made it out... You know, sat down with the PD and said, look. We wanna do this.
- 20:10home at 7: The minute we started doing that, everything just went... You know? Unfortunately, you know, right now, you know, things happen.
- 20:17home at 7: I'm back to a mixed show only for the moment, but, you know, things should be changing soon from what I'm hearing. Bro, everything changed. So... Yeah.
- 20:24home at 7: Yeah. So Yeah. Radio game is changing everywhere from east to west. From And we we...
- 20:29home at 7: When we have the conversation on the side, Camilo, we always talk about it. I mean, it's part of the game, man. You know, nothing stays the same. I tell everybody, don't get comfortable because nothing fucking stays the same.
- 20:37home at 7: And, unfortunately, sometimes things don't go back to what it used to be. It's like Correct. It's like if you're expecting hip hop to be boom bap again and come back, come on.
- 20:47home at 7: Keep waiting, Doug. Correct. Ain't happening. You know?
- 20:50home at 7: No. But everything's changing. Even the reggaeton. Reggaeton went from the regular drumbeat to... You know, we see house music with reggaeton, pop music with reggaeton. Like, know what I'm saying? Like, we see that.
- 21:01home at 7: And and then... Go ahead, Camilo. So... No.
- 21:03home at 7: You go ahead. Go ahead. I won't cut you off. No. No. I was gonna say now that you on... You know, they moved you to the 3 back back to that part. But then you look up and down the dial, and then some of your brothers on the dial at the same time. Everybody takes it like, yo. But I think you you you you take it the same way as far as competition. Be talking shit to me because we all Here we go. Here we go. Let's get to it. Let's get to it. Please go. Please go. Please Please Please go.
- 21:36home at 7: Please He's Please go. On at 4. I'm on I'm on I'm on three to seven.
- 21:39home at 7: You know what I mean? And then It's a beautiful thing. It's a beautiful thing. Guess what? What I like about it the most is that there's Heavy Hitters on the radio at the same time, and we're repping the crew. You know I mean? And and at the same time, this is going on. Heavy Hitter.
- 21:51home at 7: Right. Right. That's so good. That's it. And and if you think about it, in New York between the hours of two to seven, there's about four four Heavy Hitters on the radio at the same time.
- 22:01home at 7: You know what mean? Correct. Correct. Alright. Enuff.
- 22:03home at 7: How does that make you feel, DJ Enuff?
- 22:05home at 7: Like a proud papa? No.
- 22:10home at 7: Because I want people to understand that was part of the mission, and it still is.
- 22:14home at 7: It's always been part of the mission. A complete... A complete... And then come 7, Vereda's on. You know what I mean? So It's a complete, like Mhmm. The takeover that we have is in different levels in different ways, but the takeover is there. It's active as shit.
- 22:28home at 7: Talk about it, baby. Talk about it. You know I'm saying? Like Oh, yeah. And I love it. You know, it... Where... It's a friendly competition. You know what I mean? You know? But the end of the day, the team is winning all the way. You know what I mean? So because that... That's what...
- 22:39home at 7: Some people... Some people would ask... Go. The beautiful thing is as a crew, as family, you know, we we... You know, like, we'll get on the phone. Like, me and Carlito, we start kicking it about just just the industry and this and that. We could share, you know, our situation or moments and and... Because we all go through it, man. And, you know, it's fucking... Everything is sunny and and nightlife and radio. You know? We, you know, we hit bumps on the road all day. Like...
- 23:02home at 7: You know? Right. Right. Right. So... And and even Boogs, like, Boogs is on on fucking iHeart, which is, like, the big monster Right. Mhmm. Company. Mhmm. But, you know, even iHeart, the big monster company, they're going through that that fucking storm too. Everybody's going through it. Even on TV is going on. Even on TV. Right. Even on...... I'm saying. The the biggest the biggest the biggest channels on TV are going through it. So it's just a, you know, roller coaster ride right now.
- 23:28home at 7: But... And you gotta you gotta learn how to move with the times and just, you know, just just like we had Coro king on a couple weeks ago, and he was just... You know, because he's on TikTok.
- 23:36home at 7: That's all he does and cares about. Right.
- 23:37home at 7: You know what I'm saying? It's a whole another shit that we didn't grow up to.
- 23:40home at 7: You know what I'm saying? It's brand new to us, and and you gotta move with the times and, you know, Twitch and all that, other platforms. And, you know, It's beautiful that that we could turn around, pick up the phone, ask questions to all Correct. Bros. Like like like magic like magic sound. This guy is a Yo. That fucking guy is whiz, bro. Like, the... I'm so glad I brought him into the crew. You know? Not not... Wait. Let me rephrase I'm so glad I referred him Yeah. Yeah. To be part of the crew because when I... When when I heard him and I... You know, we've been talking for such a long time, I said, I think he's gonna be a great asset to this crew. You You know what I mean?
- 24:14home at 7: And and this is what it is about.
- 24:16home at 7: You know what I mean? You know, what what can can be done? You know what I mean? Like, he is... He's he's been a benefit for us as... You know what I mean? Like, I love the guy. You know what I'm saying? Outside of the crew, outside of everything, he's always been helpful, and he's just a phone call away. And that's what I like about it. You know what I mean? Yeah. So And if you call him, you're not getting off the phone in two minutes. Yeah. Yeah.
- 24:39home at 7: Yeah. Warnio. Shout to Magic Sound. Yeah. Yeah.
- 24:42home at 7: Yeah. Shout to Magic Sound. And then Carlito, what's up with what's up with the the whole movement, the reggaeton movement? Like, where we at? Where we at with it right now?
- 24:50home at 7: What... So what I'm seeing is, like, I see... I'm seeing that artists finally figure out that they they doing their own thing. Mhmm.
- 24:56home at 7: Not not... Like like like, again, going back to the whole radio thing. Like, these artists no longer are caring about what the radio is doing anymore. Mhmm. They're doing their own theme, platforms, doing their own concert. They noticing that, you know, doing this on their own, it's what's, you know, picking them up on the top. You know what I mean? A lot... There's a lot of artists in Puerto Rico that still haven't reached about over here.
- 25:16home at 7: You know what I mean? Yeah. Like... Yeah.
- 25:18home at 7: Yeah. Like, Name it. You got you got Roa. You got Isaac.
- 25:22home at 7: You they're they're gonna be... They're they're a problem.
- 25:39home at 7: They're a problem. For me... Right now, for me, I think the man is probably Omar Courtz.
- 25:43home at 7: Oh, yeah. Omar Courtz is dope. Yeah. On... He's... This kid is is is is is... He's he's...
- 25:49home at 7: He sold out the Barclays two days in a row here, like, two weeks ago. Yeah.
- 25:52home at 7: Yeah. Sold out six concerts in Puerto Rico at the Choliseo. Crazy. You know what I mean? So, you know, coming to New York As far as the artist, like, figuring out or doing things differently, you know, I I still preach, though, that radio is so important. And I think, know, a lot of time management be getting into these artists' heads and and and, you know, they're trying to skip, okay.
- 26:14home at 7: We don't need to do that. But I I think they fail a lot of times not touching the radio world, and I'm not saying that because I'm a fucking radio... No. It's You still need it, Doug. Yeah. Yeah. Everybody. It's a fucking pie.
- 26:27home at 7: You have to you have to touch the entire pie. If you could Correct. That off, you're you're gonna you're gonna suffer Correct. Later on. You know? And and, you know, a lot a lot of guys got too big. Mhmm. When you hit that... You know, I don't wanna put a name out there, but, let me just use a name like Rauw Alejandro. I'm just throwing a big name. Right. Right. Right.
- 26:46home at 7: Mhmm. Like, you know, I feel like sometimes they skip the line a little bit. I might be wrong. But... No. You're not wrong, dawg. They don't make those visits. Mhmm. Right.
- 26:54home at 7: They don't... I mean... Well, he came to the station. He came to the station last year. Yeah. But, like, somebody like... I'll give you an example. Somebody like J Balvin. Right?
- 27:03home at 7: He'd been to the station, and I'm talking about, you know, mega shit.
- 27:07home at 7: Like, he'd been there from day one and still goes if he... You know? Mhmm. Mhmm.
- 27:11home at 7: Yeah. Probably huge, but I think that some artists understand I still need to touch down here. This is Yeah. Very important. Like... You know? Yeah.
- 27:19home at 7: Like, right now, to be honest, dembow is, like On fire. You know what I'm saying? It's Get out. It's... You gotta give it to... You know what I'm saying? It's a DR thing right now. They... Hello.
- 27:27home at 7: Every single, like... It's like a song comes out every day. It's Every hour, bro. Yeah.
- 27:33home at 7: I was I was in DR a couple weeks ago.
- 27:35home at 7: I'm not gonna lie. I heard a new song every day. I was like, yo. How old is this song? That shit just came out two hours ago. I was like, yo.
- 27:43home at 7: I got bullshit.
- 27:44home at 7: I just see I just see.
- 27:48home at 7: I'm like, wait. Didn't retire?
- 27:50home at 7: Like, what happened? Like Yeah. I saw that yesterday. I saw that yesterday. I'm like, you know, what's going on? I compare it to...
- 27:56home at 7: You know what? I compare it to dancehall back in the nineties where Yes. Yes. A rhythm just dropped. And, cool. Onto the next.
- 28:01home at 7: Onto the next. That's exactly what it is.
- 28:03home at 7: And, you know And it's the... May may the best man win at the end of the day. Yeah.
- 28:08home at 7: For for for Spanish radio, you could clarify this for me. Dembow, like, does it hurt ratings?
- 28:16home at 7: We... So we really don't play that much, Dembow. We we might go to the...
- 28:20home at 7: We might go to, like, the j one or nana, whoever. Popular ones.
- 28:25home at 7: The hits. The dembow hits.
- 28:27home at 7: Yeah. You know, I'm trying to get my boss to, like, open up a little bit, like, to play a little bit of what's in the street. And I tell him, I'm like, yo. We don't have to play two minutes of the song.
- 28:37home at 7: The songs are a minute and forty five seconds period. Yep. You know what I'm saying?
- 28:41home at 7: So let's just play at least a verse and a hook, keep... Change it. You know what I mean? But, you know, I guess he sees the the background a little bit more than I do. Know You what I mean? I... All I could do is just suggest. You know what I mean? But in...
- 28:54home at 7: I started a live broadcast in Queens now, last Saturday, so I got that for the next twelve weeks. So there, I can play whatever I want more openly. So I I always I always push the envelope with that.
- 29:05home at 7: Mind you, I'm on Hanneson, which is a hip hop station. But Right. You know, we've always kinda, like, tapping here and there, but I always push them. Like, that PERA record, that little name record, like, I don't get off that shit. Like, I Crazy. On it.
- 29:17home at 7: I played that I played that this morning.
- 29:19Right. At eight at 8: 30 in... No. At 9 in the morning, I played that this morning. Yeah. Everybody hired that. And and and then If you're in and out for a verse, then you out. Boom. But what's crazy is, look, me being on the other side on the New York scene, like, no one touches that in my in in my stage.
- 29:34Right. At eight at 8: It's weird. You're like, up here, maybe one or two people. Maybe I disagree. I I I think self touches it here and there.
- 29:43Right. At eight at 8: I think self touches it. Said one or two people. We have nine d And and maybe and maybe Sting too. Yeah. But, like, one or two. And then after that, you guys still on that side, you guys have more of a freedom of, like, showing people like, yo. I'm talking about everybody on the screen. Like, you still have the freedom of, like, yo. This is popping in the street.
- 29:59Right. At eight at 8: Let's test it out a little bit. In this side of the world, no way, bro.
- 30:02Right. At eight at 8: Like, you guys have way more freedom than we do. Yeah. It's it's more corporate. That's why. But, shit.
- 30:09Right. At eight at 8: Way more corporate up here, dawg. And then and then, Carlito, like, when it comes to that when it comes to that, when... Like like like, do you feel like you don't have that much control anymore? You know what I mean? When it comes to, like, you like, yo. Because I know sometimes it's easier for, like, a mixer to be like, yo. Fuck with this, bro.
- 30:26Right. At eight at 8: And then... You know what I mean? Or are they too worried about those numbers?
- 30:29Right. At eight at 8: So so what I normally do is, like, when I hear a song and and I like it and I see... I'm in a club and I see the reaction on it, I come back to him, and I'm like, hey. Yo. Check this check this tune out.
- 30:40Right. At eight at 8: This is who it is. It's hot in the street. Remember? Because my boss barely goes out. You know what I'm saying? So we're in the streets, so we're the ones who gotta... He like, oh, see. See. See. You know? Like, I'll look into it. And then next thing you know, boom. It just pops up. I'm like, oh, okay. You know what I mean? He doesn't tell us, oh, we're put it. We're gonna do this. You know what I mean? I just suggest it. You know what I mean? And and and, you know, I'm a respectful person. So... That's... You know I mean?... Imagine I can imagine that it's...
- 31:06Right. At eight at 8: When it comes to... You know, this is nerdy radio talk. When it comes to researching, like like, for example, dembow... With the...
- 31:12Right. At eight at 8: With all the different...
- 31:14Right. At eight at 8: Lot people don't realize it, but all the different Latino populations in New York. You got Puerto Ricans. You got people from South America.
- 31:19Right. At eight at 8: You got people from Dominican Republic. You got people from Mexico. I would imagine that it's hard to get a read on what song is doing what and what genre. Right? Because you got the dembow that's doing this.
- 31:30Right. At eight at 8: You got the reggaeton that's doing that. You got the the whole new Mexican Urbana sound that's doing this. You got the ones coming out of LA, like, they got, like, and all that stuff that doing that. I could imagine that... You know, and I don't know.
- 31:44Right. At eight at 8: I'm just shooting in the dark that being on a land station where you guys have to narrow down all of that into one small package, how it can be tough to, like, being, like, try to lean one way.
- 31:53Right. At eight at 8: Because if you start leaning dembow, then you might lose some of the, you know, hardcore voriquas or some of the hardcore Mexicans or... You know what I'm saying? If you start leaning more...
- 32:03Right. At eight at 8: Yo. But even the artists are are are doing that, Kast. They're actually combining genres together. Like, I went to that first concert in Citi Field. Mhmm. And my nigga, that shit turned into a 50 Cent concert.
- 32:15Right. At eight at 8: Oh, and then and then... What's his name from the nineties in Brooklyn? Bobby Shmurda came out. Right. Right. And this one came out.
- 32:21Right. At eight at 8: Oh, yeah. What's happening here?
- 32:24Right. At eight at 8: But that's the kind shit that that's the kind of shit that's going on. So so what what what... Going back to what Kast said is, like, a lot of people... I've gotten the question, yo. Why y'all play so much Romeo? Why y'all play so much Mark Anthony, Frankie Ruiz, and this person? People need to understand. So for the people out there that's watching this and don't know, the radio world is every song that we play on that radio, they can tell if the rating goes up, if the rating goes down, and at what point in peak and which song. So that's why if you listen to the same song repeatedly every four hours, three hours, it's because that song, when they play it, rating goes up. The minute that the ratings drop, that's it. They take that song out and replace it with another one. That's it. You know what I mean? So that's just... You know, as much as I try to, like... You know, I I I I I get a playlist every day. But just because I get a playlist don't mean that I gotta play it in the direction that he... You know? Like this. Wait. Wait. I just Listen.
- 33:16Right. At eight at 8: Bro, and the thing is I was listening to you the other day when you was playing some classic sci sci. And I was like, that's not on the list, but this is why.
- 33:27Right. At eight at 8: Listen. Sometimes sometimes get away with it, and then sometimes I get sometimes I get the text like I got yesterday.
- 33:34Right. At eight at 8: He's like, why are you playing that song?
- 33:36Right. At eight at 8: That's not a song. That's not a song.
- 33:38Right. At eight at 8: Song was that? What song was was a salsa.
- 33:42Right. At eight at 8: You know? That's fun. He had put one, but I put another one, and I was like, oh, my bad. You know what I mean? So... And, honestly, it was a honest mistake. It wasn't that I wanted to put it. So... Yeah. You know what saying?... Struggle with the same thing. You gotta... So you really have to play the middle. You gotta be like, alright. Cool. Romeo is safe. This guy is saying, like, more people are gonna just tolerate it than either take it off or love it. As long as you got people tolerating it Alright. Then you're good. Yeah.
- 34:07Right. At eight at 8: You know what know what what I tell everybody? Even though we try to have conversations with PDs and shit like that, like, you also can't take the fucking soul out the mix.
- 34:16Right. At eight at 8: You know? Sometimes, sonically, this record is gonna sound great with this record. Even though this record is not a hit, it's just gonna sound great. Right. And I I really feel like people are just not gonna... They're not gonna go, oh, nah.
- 34:29Right. At eight at 8: Let me go back to fucking this other station. You know? No. Mhmm. I think you also gotta take him through a ride. And, yeah, you gotta be risky, but that's where you're... Yeah. That's where Carlito's finesse comes out.
- 34:37Right. At eight at 8: That's where you Mhmm. You know? He not...
- 34:39Right. At eight at 8: I remember listening to Enuff, and it's like, he would go and then take you to a ride. He's not supposed to probably play that shit. Right.
- 34:46Right. At eight at 8: He would make it a ride and make it fun. And sonically, it sounds great. You know? Mhmm. Mhmm. That's the soul of the mix, man. You can't you can't fucking take that away from the mix, man, because it's very important.
- 34:57Right. At eight at 8: Yeah. What I try to do too and what I try to do too is I...
- 35:00Right. At eight at 8: If I play a song today and it pops up tomorrow, I try to play a different version so it don't sound the same.
- 35:05Right. At eight at 8: Right. Right. You know what mean? That's a good that's a good idea.
- 35:08Right. At eight at 8: I remember when the PDs, they yell at me for, like, for playing something, and I'd be like, yo. What the fuck?
- 35:13Right. At eight at 8: And I didn't know I didn't know I wasn't good at it, Carlito. I didn't know how to bounce back. Like, the PD would yell at me or he sent me a nasty text, and then after that, like, the air was, like, taking out my tire. Like, I didn't wanna I didn't wanna DJ anymore. I'd be like, fuck. I don't want DJ. It it has happened to me plenty of times. Believe me. It would... It... I I dealt with it for a very long time until, like, I finally got the, you know, the the the whole scoop of, alright. I know how he works. I know how he want me to work. Yeah. And I'll do... You know what I mean? But it's true. You get that text and you're like, you're the middle of the mix and you're right. I'm in the middle of it. And you get that text, it's like...
- 35:50Right. At eight at 8: Yo. But don't get it fucked up. There's a lot of times... And I don't I don't brag about it because I don't... You know? A lot of times, I... I've proven PDs wrong. I've proven them wrong. And I'm like, okay.
- 36:02Right. At eight at 8: You don't think... Okay. And then three weeks later, that record is out of it.
- 36:07Right. At eight at 8: You know what? I know everything is timing also. You know, that's very important. Sometimes you can't go in too quickly or whatever. Or sometimes you gotta give a new record some time for it to grow, and then you could go... I get all that. But there's a lot of times, like, you know, you have to listen to the DJ.
- 36:23Right. At eight at 8: Yo, bro. Yeah. Yeah. You remember when Bad Bunny first started popping?
- 36:28Right. At eight at 8: Of course. You guys at Hot 97 played Bad Bunny way more than La Mega did.
- 36:32Right. At eight at 8: Right. Yeah. And I never understood that. I never understood that. It's probably because of the street thing. You guys were connected more to the street than the PD were. It's funny that you say that because today makes ten years that he did the song with.
- 36:45Right. At eight at 8: That's crazy. Wow. Today's the tenth anniversary, and that's the that's the song that blew up by Bunny. It's crazy, Which one? What's the name of it? It's called...
- 36:56Right. At eight at 8: Yeah.
- 36:59Right. At eight at 8: Mhmm.. Yo.
- 37:00Right. At eight at 8: By the way, e, you know who used to do something about. You know... That's a trap. That's a trap song. You know who used to do that to me? Take the air out of my tires? Like you said, take the air out of tires?
- 37:10Right. At eight at 8: And that... It wasn't a PD.
- 37:12Right. At eight at 8: It was DJ Clark Kent. Oh, wow.
- 37:16Right. At eight at 8: Happy birthday... Yo. Clark Kent Clark Kent would listen every day, and he would text he would text, like, you know, not every day, but he would text. He'd be like, yo.
- 37:26Right. At eight at 8: Yo. That was fire.
- 37:27Right. At eight at 8: Yo. I like how you went into this.
- 37:29Right. At eight at 8: You know what mean? You looks like you really care. Blah blah blah blah. But then he will also go, yo. That shit was trashed. Don't ever do that again.
- 37:37Right. At eight at 8: Yo. Lav Nicks was horrendous.
- 37:40Right. At eight at 8: Yo. You sounded I like that. You sounded ridiculous when you opened the mic and you said this this. And I'll be like, damn.
- 37:46Right. At eight at 8: Clark just danced me, bro. Bro.
- 37:50Right. At eight at 8: Clark Kent was definitely still a student, man, because he was listening. Yo. Love it. He loved it, man. He loved it. Me too?
- 37:56Right. At eight at 8: Tech too. Yeah. I I I still got him too. It's crazy. I saved... Know? Me too. I saved him too. I saved them all. He... One day he one day he said some crazy shit to me and said, you sound the best.
- 38:08Right. At eight at 8: He said the best on air.
- 38:10Right. At eight at 8: I was like, come on, bro. This car can't tell him, like... And I'm like, are you gassing me? Like, what are you... What are He's gassing a little bit because he told me the same shit. He was gassing because he sent me the same shit too.
- 38:20Right. At eight at 8: You you know what?
- 38:23Right. At eight at 8: I've...
- 38:24Right. At eight at 8: He was gassing it. He be like, yo.
- 38:27Right. At eight at 8: I've gotten down a lot of I've gotten down a lot of time, and I just tell the people when I when I pick when I pick up the phone or whatever, I'm like, look, man. That... That's your opinion.
- 38:35Right. At eight at 8: I just feel like we're all great at the station. You know what I mean? Yeah.
- 38:39Right. At eight at 8: A 100%. You wouldn't... Listen. You wouldn't be in that chair if you wasn't great, bro.
- 38:42Right. At eight at 8: True. Mhmm. Right. There's five other guys behind you that could also be great. Like... You know? So, you know, the the... How long you've been at La Mega?
- 38:51Right. At eight at 8: With the company itself, almost twelve years. On air, seven. On air seven. That ten year anniversary, that's fucking amazing, bro. Crazy. Still going. And and under the circumstances of where radio is and the world we live in and AI on the way or AI here, I should say, we're we're survivors, bro. Straight up. Straight up. Yep. Yep. It's not a easy it's not a easy it's not a easy task to deal with. You know what I mean?
- 39:16Right. At eight at 8: Mhmm. You know? Yo. You're asking the question.
- 39:17Right. At eight at 8: What was the first record you ever bought?
- 39:19Right. At eight at 8: A word. The first... I wanna say the first record I ever bought was Víctor Manuelle's CD. I forgot the name of it. But I I remember the cover is, like, brown and and orange. Oh, shit. I can't I can't think of it. I can't really think of of the... But my first cassette was a DJ Tony Touch cassette. Oh. Sven Filipe. I like that, Tony. Of course. Sven Filipe. Bushwick Brooklyn. Hello? So that that I must say. It was a Tony Touch cassette, and and I bought it at Music Hut.
- 39:49Right. At eight at 8: It was literally right around the block for That a Knickerbocker? Yes, sir. Know... Yo. Talking about Knickerbocker real quick. One time for Jose Alvarado.
- 39:56Right. At eight at 8: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Street name street name is happening, I think, today or tomorrow. Tomorrow. Tomorrow. Knickerbocker, Myrtle. Yeah. Yep. I mean, yo. Got... I'm co-share that street name. He co-shares it he co-shares it for, like, a year, I think it is. It's gonna be it's gonna be till April, upon what I heard. A lot of people came at me with it. I I gave my... I expressed my concern about it, and I gave my opinion because I ain't gonna lie. You know what I mean? I felt some type of way.
- 40:22Right. At eight at 8: I... I'm not gonna sugarcoat nothing. Not in a way towards him because he deserves everything.
- 40:28Right. At eight at 8: Not gonna take nothing off from him. But it was just a... You know, I had asked for that when I got my proclamation last... Two years ago. And I was told that... And I was told I I I had to be deceased.
- 40:39Right. At eight at 8: And then I'd seen that, and that that was it. But, you know, it's... I'm over it, and, you know, congratulations to him. I wish, in all reality, that when I brought up the situation, that they went and told me, hey. You know what? Come through. We want you to present him with... You know what I'm saying?
- 40:54Right. At eight at 8: Something.
- 40:55Right. At eight at 8: Something. But at no given time, they even said anything to me. But, again, no hard feelings. Congratulations to him, and we're very well deserved. Big Brooklyn representing the Knicks. You know what I'm saying? So many more to come for him. You know what saying? That's called that's called politics, man. Politics.
- 41:11Right. At eight at 8: You know what Yeah. You know? They they they promised me in the next Puerto Rican parade in Bushwick to name my block.
- 41:18Right. At eight at 8: So I said, alright. No problem. I'll take it. You know what I mean? I'm dead.
- 41:21Right. At eight at 8: If that happens, I'm dead, bro. I'm dead.
- 41:22Right. At eight at 8: That's hard. We dead. Yeah. Yeah. But I got a nice surprise for them next year in the parade. It's not gonna be a flow. It's gonna be something else.
- 41:30Right. At eight at 8: I'm like Bro, something crazy. Warning. Yeah.
- 41:34Right. At eight at 8: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Hey. And, Carlito, are you are you at a point with this whole radio with the career, with the connections that you're making, etcetera? Are are you satisfied? What are we getting next from you? Is that...
- 41:43Right. At eight at 8: What else is on the list besides a big deal for the parade next So in 2027, I wanna work closely more with artists, and I wanna start, you know, being part of records. You know what I mean? I I wanna start doing music, whether it's Reggaeton, Bachata, Salsa, Dembow, whatever. Mhmm. But I wanna get involved in in that now Because, again, like Camilo said, we just can't sit into, oh, radio radio is... Nothing is promising right now. You know what mean? We gotta move it now. And I gotta do it now that I'm there, and I can get... You know, connect the dots more. You know what I'm saying? So I'm just building relationships right now Right. And and just taking it from there, man. Because, I said, one thing I learned... And, again, because... Not because he's here, but Camilo.
- 42:25Right. At eight at 8: I met him, you know, twenty years ago or more.
- 42:29Right. At eight at 8: Guy's still the same person I met twenty, you know, twenty plus years ago. You know what I'm saying? So that's... You know, I learned from him that being humble is the best... You know, the key to the success.
- 42:39Right. At eight at 8: So I'm just gonna continue to be me.
- 42:40Right. At eight at 8: You know what I mean? And look and look what b, you got you, bro. Look what b, you got you. I seen Carlito getting fucking... I don't wanna use the word ratchet, but...
- 42:51Right. At eight at 8: Because Brooklyn came out. I seen him one time. Was like, woah. Okay. But... No. But but to to to piggyback put somebody in his place in a second. Wait. But to piggyback on that, that... That's that's what... Like, to me, when I saw Carlito from Bushwick turned into Carlito from Brooklyn. You know I'm saying?
- 43:20Right. At eight at 8: Just because I'm at La Mega, I don't mean I don't play hip hop. Right. I'm a very versatile DJ. You know what I mean? So No. Get a puppy. Let them know. A lot of people, you know, oh, no. You're La Mega. You can't do a hip hop party. Why not? Exactly. I'm a versatile DJ. You know what I mean? He's like, I got he's like, I've got those in the bag. Yo. Get out of You understand what I'm saying? You know what I mean? So... You know? Every time we have somebody on, I gotta ask. I gotta... You know, for this young DJ...
- 43:45Right. At eight at 8: Young DJ Carlito out there that wants to be DJ on radio or whatever. Just the next level for the young'uns just looking at this for the YNs. Like, what do you... Any advice?
- 43:57Right. At eight at 8: My advice is, first and foremost, stay in school. You know what I'm saying? Finish your, you know, finish your your your studies. You know what I'm saying? Like, you know, don't don't just think because, you know, you wanna become a DJ that you gotta drop out of school, things like that. School first.
- 44:12Right. At eight at 8: Do your thing.
- 44:13Right. At eight at 8: You know what I'm saying? Stay in school.
- 44:15Right. At eight at 8: After you do your thing in school, you know, you focus on it. Is this what you really wanna do? That's the biggest question. You know what mean? Just because you see your buddy doing it or us doing it and you... You know, you gotta focus to see if this is really what you wanna do. You know? And if it is, study the craft of the music, study the craft of the technology because, again, we're moving so fast that what we learn, how we learn is nowhere near, you know what I mean, of of what it is now. You know what I'm saying? Like, who would have thought we would have a computer in front of us just type in a name and just load it into us? You know what I'm saying? So stay in school, study the craft, work hard, never give up. And if it's what you want, go for it. You know what I mean?
- 44:58Right. At eight at 8: Go for it. You know I mean? Never...
- 44:59Right. At eight at 8: Again, I did it. You know what I'm saying? I never gave up to become a Heavy Hitter. I became a Heavy Hitter. I never gave up to being on radio. I'm on radio. You know what I'm saying? Baby.
- 45:09Right. At eight at 8: Yeah. And I met great people along the way. My Bully Sound Records is family. You know what I'm saying? Grizzly.
- 45:14Right. At eight at 8: Know You what mean? He was working with an artist down in Dominican Republic, and my my my my boy, longtime friendship friend, j a, introduced me to him. You know? The the the only Puerto Rican... The only Dominican in Harlem controlling the projects.
- 45:28Right. At eight at 8: You You know what I mean? And and and he he he he made his... You know what I'm saying? He made his... You know, that's why everybody's like, yo. What's that on your neck? It's Bully Sound Records. Hollywood k o Yeah. Yeah. And Suave. We... You know what I'm saying? It's it's it's, you know, record label. And you know what I mean? Opportunities like that, I got it, and and I'm blessed to have to have the Heavy Hitters and Bully Sound as my family. Carlito, I appreciate you for holding down and waiting six, seven years, whatever the fuck it was to being a Heavy Hitter because Thank you, King. You are Yes, sir. Thank you. I appreciate you guys for, you know, for for taking me into into consideration and making me a Heavy Hitter. It's it's an honor. You know what I mean? It's it's just... And, again, we're not just a DJ crew. We're a family. You know what I'm saying? So for those... We make you a Heavy Hitter. You made you a Heavy Hitter.
- 46:21Right. At eight at 8: But for those people out there, I was like, oh, I wanna be with that DJ crew. It's not a DJ crew. We're a family. You know what mean? Because when one when one person is down, we're all down.
- 46:31Right. At eight at 8: Know what mean? So just know that. I like that. Like down.
- 46:34Right. At eight at 8: Carlito, appreciate your time, my brother. Keep knocking them down. Keep fucking up them ratings. Keep doing your.
