- 0:05Speaker 1: Cardinal Territory host regional cable superstar Jim Hayes joining us
- 0:09Speaker 1: right now to talk Cardinals. Good to see you, my friend,
- 0:12Speaker 1: and great episode of the other day.
- 0:15Speaker 2: Now you look.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Great, well, I mean literally you're not figuratively we could
- 0:20Speaker 1: say whatever, right, but literally you are right side up.
- 0:23Speaker 1: And the Cardinals are what after the trade deadline, filling
- 0:28Speaker 1: the blank.
- 0:29Speaker 3: Doing their thing, which is what we expected. I'm Bloom
- 0:32Speaker 3: said that when he took over, he said, look, our
- 0:34Speaker 3: goal is to be chasing World Series year after year,
- 0:40Speaker 3: as opposed to going all in and working for the
- 0:45Speaker 3: short term. So what they did was they got rid
- 0:48Speaker 3: of guys that won't be with the team next year anyway.
- 0:51Speaker 3: They rented them in some cases like they did to
- 0:55Speaker 3: the Brewers, for guys that could help that long term goal.
- 0:59Speaker 3: So their stockpilo a bunch of talent that's controllable for
- 1:03Speaker 3: years to come. And not every prospect. I mean they
- 1:06Speaker 3: loaded up with prospects. Now, not everyone's gonna hit, but
- 1:10Speaker 3: the best way to beat the odds is with volume,
- 1:12Speaker 3: and they have stockpiled a ton of minor league talent
- 1:16Speaker 3: that they hope will pay dividends down the road. And
- 1:20Speaker 3: looking around them with the pundits like AJ and people
- 1:23Speaker 3: of nssenal statures say, Cardinals made out pretty well. So
- 1:27Speaker 3: the question is, now, what's gonna be for the rest
- 1:29Speaker 3: of the season. They're gonna look, get a look at
- 1:31Speaker 3: some of their pictures, make decisions on certain guys, and
- 1:34Speaker 3: now they'll have runway. But there's no question this is
- 1:38Speaker 3: a team built for the future.
- 1:41Speaker 4: Does it mean that they're gonna punt for the rest
- 1:42Speaker 4: of the season. What do we expect to see from
- 1:44Speaker 4: the Cardinals for the rest of the season? Pictures that
- 1:48Speaker 4: don't strike, a lot of guys out hitters that had
- 1:50Speaker 4: a really hot start. Who is going to be the
- 1:53Speaker 4: one that's going to carry the rest of this team
- 1:56Speaker 4: or the guys into next season?
- 1:59Speaker 3: Well, the starting case and has actually been pretty good.
- 2:02Speaker 3: I mean they've been healthy, they've spaced out their guys,
- 2:06Speaker 3: a lot of young guys that haven't been a major
- 2:08Speaker 3: league starter for the entire season, but they space them
- 2:12Speaker 3: out and everyone seems pretty fresh. And you look at
- 2:15Speaker 3: some of the guys outings recently, it looks like they're
- 2:17Speaker 3: not worn down at all. So that's good and I
- 2:20Speaker 3: think that's the building block. A lot of the guys
- 2:23Speaker 3: that we're hitting are not hitting right now, but that happens.
- 2:26Speaker 3: You go through some good offensive spurts and some bad ones.
- 2:29Speaker 3: I think the bottom of the batting order is kind
- 2:32Speaker 3: of what weighs them down. There was a stretch for
- 2:34Speaker 3: all those guys were contributing, and that made the lineup
- 2:37Speaker 3: even more dangerous. But they have a lot of guys
- 2:40Speaker 3: that go on hot streets and hopefully, look, they're not
- 2:43Speaker 3: out of anything yet. It's gonna be really yeomen's work
- 2:47Speaker 3: to get back into a good place in the playoff picture.
- 2:50Speaker 3: But they have the talent. And I'll tell you this
- 2:53Speaker 3: about this ball club. You know they don't get down
- 2:56Speaker 3: when they lose. I've never seen this before. You can
- 2:58Speaker 3: usually get a vibe that the team has exhaled and
- 3:01Speaker 3: maybe they realize it's over. That's not the case with
- 3:04Speaker 3: this bunk level. A lot of young guys who just
- 3:06Speaker 3: want to show what they can do. So I wouldn't
- 3:08Speaker 3: count them out yet, but I understand it is a
- 3:10Speaker 3: long shot for them to get back in a good
- 3:12Speaker 3: position again. Pitching's been good, hitting has been hit or miss.
- 3:17Speaker 3: The bullpen needs a little help because they've lost a
- 3:20Speaker 3: lot of games with guys in the bullpen, and I
- 3:22Speaker 3: don't know what's going to change that.
- 3:25Speaker 5: Jim, you mentioned the trade deadline and you say, oh,
- 3:27Speaker 5: they got rid of it, but you know, they still
- 3:29Speaker 5: had some pieces that could have been traded, whether it's
- 3:31Speaker 5: a Herrera Burlason, you know they had some pieces that
- 3:35Speaker 5: were available I would think to be traded that aren't
- 3:39Speaker 5: gonna I don't think be around. You know the next
- 3:41Speaker 5: three four years. Were you satisfied that really? I mean,
- 3:45Speaker 5: New bar Dust, Demand, Jojo Romero were the only ones
- 3:48Speaker 5: that were traded? Or should hem Bloom been able to
- 3:51Speaker 5: do more?
- 3:51Speaker 2: Maybe?
- 3:53Speaker 3: Look, I think he's done a really good job of
- 3:55Speaker 3: stockpilot talent. The only surprise for me was that they
- 3:59Speaker 3: didn't deal it Catcher because they have a backlog of
- 4:02Speaker 3: talented young catching. I thought one of those guys might
- 4:05Speaker 3: be involved in a trade. Didn't happen.
- 4:08Speaker 2: So what do you do?
- 4:08Speaker 3: You hold them late guys try to get better in
- 4:11Speaker 3: the minor leagues, and they see what they have next year.
- 4:16Speaker 3: I think it'd be I think it'd be a bad complaint.
- 4:19Speaker 3: I think it'd be a meritless complaint to say they
- 4:22Speaker 3: could have done more because we need more, you know.
- 4:27Speaker 3: Top fifteen top thirty prospects they have loaded up, and
- 4:31Speaker 3: now we'll see which ones make it. That's when I
- 4:33Speaker 3: think the question marks can come in if guys don't
- 4:36Speaker 3: pan out. But I think everyone kind of knew what
- 4:39Speaker 3: IIM was gonna do. Maybe they thought there would be
- 4:41Speaker 3: an extra move or two. It's ironic that Jonazaylok's doing
- 4:45Speaker 3: the same thing now with the Angels. But yeah, overall,
- 4:49Speaker 3: I would say he gets good grades for what they
- 4:52Speaker 3: got in return for what they gave up. I think
- 4:54Speaker 3: that's fair.
- 4:56Speaker 4: Basically, young guys are on this team. Are you surprised
- 4:58Speaker 4: there's no more stension talks than a little bit that
- 5:02Speaker 4: they've had so far.
- 5:04Speaker 3: I don't Yeah, you know, one of the guys, I
- 5:06Speaker 3: would have liked to have them lock up early. And
- 5:09Speaker 3: it's just me. It's not my money. Mason win, because
- 5:12Speaker 3: I think if you're rebuilding, you could start with JJ
- 5:15Speaker 3: who got the bag already, and Mason went up the middle.
- 5:18Speaker 3: That's a pretty good place to start. Mason's under team
- 5:21Speaker 3: control for another few years, will be arbitration eligible, But yeah,
- 5:27Speaker 3: it's not my money, and I don't know, you know,
- 5:29Speaker 3: based on what's going to go on with the labor situation.
- 5:32Speaker 3: Who you want to spend that money on right now?
- 5:35Speaker 3: Mason has had sort of a down year offensively, though
- 5:39Speaker 3: he's coming out of it now. I'm a big believer
- 5:42Speaker 3: in what he can be at the play. We've already
- 5:44Speaker 3: seen defensively that he's elite level defense. That's one guy
- 5:48Speaker 3: look at. I'm not surprised they didn't trade Burley. They
- 5:51Speaker 3: still have a couple of years of control for him,
- 5:54Speaker 3: and he's getting better and better. And then what happened
- 5:57Speaker 3: with Burley, Ali told him you're not being traded, goes
- 6:00Speaker 3: out and he hits three home runs at Yankee Stadium.
- 6:03Speaker 3: Pretty good. I'm a big Burley guy, I mean not
- 6:06Speaker 3: just physically, but I believe in uh In Alan Burlison.
- 6:11Speaker 5: I bet I bet you do there, Jim, I bet
- 6:13Speaker 5: you do. Who else do they have? How were are
- 6:17Speaker 5: they about their pitching? I know you kind of mentioned
- 6:18Speaker 5: their pitching is in a good spot, but are there
- 6:20Speaker 5: are a lot of these guys are younger guys, they're
- 6:22Speaker 5: getting to limits and there pitching, I mean they're they're
- 6:25Speaker 5: they're libatoor and and Polante who pitched really well last night.
- 6:30Speaker 5: But are they worried about the last month of this season.
- 6:33Speaker 5: Are they going to have depth issues going forward? I
- 6:36Speaker 5: know they're still technically alive for the wild card.
- 6:39Speaker 3: So they got Dobbins plugged in right because they got
- 6:42Speaker 3: rid of May. They sent Quinn Matthews down who had
- 6:45Speaker 3: one start and they've shut him back, and he pitched
- 6:48Speaker 3: pretty well. I think it was four or five innings,
- 6:50Speaker 3: a lot of strikeouts. He's still working on his control
- 6:53Speaker 3: because he walks a lot of guys. But then they
- 6:57Speaker 3: have other guys down there. They got Mox, they got
- 6:59Speaker 3: ten or they have other prospects down there who seem
- 7:03Speaker 3: to be major league starting rotation type guys. I'm not
- 7:06Speaker 3: saying they're ones or twos. Who knows what they're going
- 7:09Speaker 3: to be, but I think they have more depth of
- 7:12Speaker 3: guys that can step in and look, we're most of
- 7:14Speaker 3: the way through the season. I don't think you have
- 7:16Speaker 3: to worry about Polante. They've spaced out McGreevy and he
- 7:20Speaker 3: seems to answer the bell every time he gets the call.
- 7:25Speaker 3: Layy is a guy who when he was in the
- 7:27Speaker 3: bullpen wanted the ball every day. Now, granted it's different
- 7:30Speaker 3: than being a starter, but he always had a rubber arm,
- 7:33Speaker 3: and he says he feels great physically. This is as
- 7:36Speaker 3: good as he's felt as a professional athlete, and he's
- 7:39Speaker 3: gotten better and better. So yes, near are questions, But
- 7:42Speaker 3: right now it doesn't look like this is the area
- 7:45Speaker 3: of need for the Cardinals because the starting rotation has
- 7:48Speaker 3: been pretty solid in for like the second year in
- 7:50Speaker 3: a row. They haven't had a major injury in the
- 7:53Speaker 3: starting rotation, which is odd because in baseball everyone loses
- 7:57Speaker 3: pieces of that starting rotation.

- 9:02Speaker 4: We hear all the time from the Brewers about the
- 9:04Speaker 4: you know, Dustin May is going to be so nasty.
- 9:06Speaker 4: Do you feel like the Brewers got more value in
- 9:09Speaker 4: the trade from Jojo Romero or from Dustin May?
- 9:14Speaker 3: I think May, because look, the Brewers have had injury,
- 9:17Speaker 3: they've had good starting pitching, but they've always dealt with injuries.
- 9:21Speaker 3: And when Maine is on, and you know this quest
- 9:24Speaker 3: isy on or not, they always talk about with him
- 9:27Speaker 3: when he's in rhythm, right, when his mechanics are good,
- 9:30Speaker 3: he's nasty and talking to Dusty Blake, the pitching coach,
- 9:34Speaker 3: they know when he's in a good spot. And when
- 9:36Speaker 3: he's in a good spot, he goes out there and
- 9:38Speaker 3: pitches like a veteran pitcher who's pitched at you know,
- 9:42Speaker 3: the major league level for a long time, battled through
- 9:45Speaker 3: a bunch of injuries. But he's healthy now and I
- 9:47Speaker 3: think he will help them for this year because he's
- 9:50Speaker 3: a rental and Jojo. Look, he just had his appendix
- 9:53Speaker 3: out last I talked to him. He was just getting
- 9:56Speaker 3: started with with baseball activities. But he's a guy that's shown,
- 10:01Speaker 3: you know, at a high level, he can be a
- 10:03Speaker 3: leverage guy that gets left these out and I think
- 10:06Speaker 3: that would help any ball club. So parental guys, I
- 10:09Speaker 3: think the Brewers accomplished a lot. Now I'm not in
- 10:12Speaker 3: their minor league system. I'm not a Brewers fan. The
- 10:15Speaker 3: question is that they gave up too much with the
- 10:17Speaker 3: prospect and I'll say it again because they see guys
- 10:20Speaker 3: kind of rolling their eyes. Prospects are just that prospects.
- 10:23Speaker 3: You don't know, you know what they're going to be.
- 10:25Speaker 3: You don't know who's gonna hit. Maybe they're scratch off
- 10:27Speaker 3: lottery tickets. But the truth is, when you buy a
- 10:30Speaker 3: lot of scratch off lottery tickets, your chances are better
- 10:33Speaker 3: to hit one of them. And I think the Cardinals
- 10:35Speaker 3: have done a pretty good job with that.
- 10:38Speaker 2: Oh Jim, you're such a Homer. There's such a Homer cap,
- 10:41Speaker 2: there's such a home.
- 10:43Speaker 3: What what what do you want me to say? The
- 10:46Speaker 3: prospects or what? What a jas? Wait?
- 10:49Speaker 2: Well, were you gonna say the prospects? What about the prospects?
- 10:52Speaker 3: You want me to say that they'll never pan out? You know? Yes?
- 10:55Speaker 3: Clip that, you clip that, you sound like that, You
- 10:58Speaker 3: sound like you sound like land Lit Lancelin in Cardinal
- 11:01Speaker 3: territory today. Try to get me on one of those, right,
- 11:05Speaker 3: and uh? And the truth is I try to be
- 11:08Speaker 3: fair about these things. Yes, I cover the Cardinals. Yeah,
- 11:12Speaker 3: I'm gonna admit it. I'm kind of a Cardinal fan,
- 11:14Speaker 3: but I'm not I'm not afraid to criticize things when
- 11:17Speaker 3: they deserve criticism. But the thing is, when you're talking
- 11:21Speaker 3: about dealing rental players for prospects, you don't really know
- 11:25Speaker 3: what you have until it's time for the prospects to
- 11:28Speaker 3: deliver on the promise. So the second guess and now
- 11:32Speaker 3: seems chilly? There you go? Clip that on?
- 11:35Speaker 2: Thank you, We know we clipped the right thing.
- 11:37Speaker 5: The prospects are terrible, don't wry all over the wait
- 11:41Speaker 5: do I send that to him?
- 11:42Speaker 2: Man?
- 11:42Speaker 5: This is your sideline reporter, So do I wait, do
- 11:45Speaker 5: I text Ali? By the way, speaking of Oli, how
- 11:48Speaker 5: much credit does Oli deserve this year?
- 11:50Speaker 2: Not John Jay, not Daniel.
- 11:51Speaker 5: De Scalson, not Pop Warner, not Stubby claud none of
- 11:54Speaker 5: those guys.
- 11:55Speaker 2: How much? How much does Oli Marvel.
- 11:58Speaker 5: Deserve as far as what he's done and how this
- 12:01Speaker 5: team has performed a ton?
- 12:04Speaker 3: And I'll tell you why because you just mentioned first
- 12:07Speaker 3: all his assistants, and Ali's a guy that said that
- 12:10Speaker 3: wants his assistant coaches to talk to the media, to
- 12:14Speaker 3: show what they do, what they're working on. And that's
- 12:17Speaker 3: Oli being kind of selfless. But here's the thing about
- 12:20Speaker 3: Olie Marlboro. I've been in that clubhouse good times, bad times.
- 12:24Speaker 3: Now a very young team. The players play for him, right,
- 12:28Speaker 3: the players soon quit. Ali has a unique way of
- 12:31Speaker 3: one relating to his players, to dealing with guys in
- 12:36Speaker 3: the front office and even the media. And I love
- 12:40Speaker 3: that guy. It gives me a hard time, just like
- 12:42Speaker 3: Lance Lynn or Aj Prazinski that I never played the game.
- 12:46Speaker 3: But for a little guy who walks around like he's
- 12:48Speaker 3: got groceries under his arms, Olie Marvel relates well to everybody.
- 12:52Speaker 3: And yes, I did say he walks around like he
- 12:55Speaker 3: has groceries under his arms. Clip that off. So we
- 13:00Speaker 3: do it, doctor Phillips. Jim, So we do it, doctor Phillips.
- 13:03Speaker 5: I we're jacked and we're we're great, very intelligent baseball people.
- 13:07Speaker 2: That's what we do.
- 13:08Speaker 3: No, you're you're I gotta say you were smart when
- 13:11Speaker 3: back when I first met you, when you were the
- 13:13Speaker 3: rusty nail that Mazelan was throwing into the pile and
- 13:16Speaker 3: everyone was like, what's this guy? And everybody loved you
- 13:19Speaker 3: and you were smart. And I'll say it again. You
- 13:21Speaker 3: told me, Hey, Jim, by the way, you're a sideline reporter.
- 13:25Speaker 3: Do you know I'm still playing and I already I
- 13:27Speaker 3: already have two National Emmys. I'm better at your job
- 13:30Speaker 3: and I'm still well. Maybe it's three now, back then
- 13:33Speaker 3: it was two.
- 13:34Speaker 5: Yeah, Sorry to keep patting on, Jim. You lose count
- 13:38Speaker 5: after a while. Count after your game?
- 13:41Speaker 3: Pick your game? Would you?
- 13:44Speaker 4: Oh?
- 13:44Speaker 3: Man?
- 13:44Speaker 2: I love you, Jim. You're the best.
- 13:46Speaker 3: You're the best. No, you are the best. You guys
- 13:48Speaker 3: are great, and uh, I hope we're like our producer director.
- 13:51Speaker 3: I don't know what you guys call it. George asked
- 13:55Speaker 3: me to tell you guys, he's doing a great job.
- 13:57Speaker 3: He is. Because here's a thing. When you're dealing with
- 14:00Speaker 3: professional athletes, like putting together a podcast, it's like hurting cats.
- 14:06Speaker 3: You know why, because all of you are sitting on
- 14:08Speaker 3: millions of dollars and don't need any of this crap.
- 14:11Speaker 3: But you do it. But you're going to do it
- 14:13Speaker 3: on your own time train. You're going to do it
- 14:15Speaker 3: the way you want to do it. So a lot
- 14:17Speaker 3: of times we're ready to do the podcast and no
- 14:21Speaker 3: one has answered if they're in or not, and we
- 14:23Speaker 3: have to sit there and wait for the professional athletes
- 14:26Speaker 3: to pop in so we can do the podcast. So
- 14:29Speaker 3: aj I would say, of all the guys you Lance,
- 14:33Speaker 3: Kyles Gibson is a nicer guy. My Holiday, by the way,
- 14:37Speaker 3: who's on sometimes, is also great. But you guys do
- 14:41Speaker 3: it your way and that's that. And for a sideline reporter,
- 14:45Speaker 3: just some little fella who's hanging on for dear life
- 14:48Speaker 3: in his profession, I have to deal with people like
- 14:51Speaker 3: you and for your partners up there. I know you're
- 14:54Speaker 3: the rusty nail. They not along with you a lot,
- 14:56Speaker 3: which is cool because you're the big guy with the
- 14:58Speaker 3: groceries and everything. But when I watch your podcast. I
- 15:02Speaker 3: enjoy it because I think you guys do a great job.
- 15:04Speaker 3: There are sucked up to you.
- 15:07Speaker 5: But by the way, Jim, let me just say this
- 15:09Speaker 5: for the record, I've never been late, and I'm always
- 15:11Speaker 5: here when I need to be, So let's just always
- 15:13Speaker 5: let's just throw that out there. I don't know who
- 15:15Speaker 5: you're dealing with, but I am never late.
- 15:17Speaker 3: Now.
- 15:17Speaker 5: I might be here in old fifty eight like I
- 15:19Speaker 5: was today, but I'm not late.
- 15:22Speaker 3: Listen, you know who I'm dealing with, Okay. And there's
- 15:25Speaker 3: a little a j and there's a little aging Prazinski
- 15:28Speaker 3: in every former professional athlete. That's the truth.
- 15:34Speaker 1: What's the saying about like if you're if you're not
- 15:37Speaker 1: early or late or something, you gotta be x amount
- 15:39Speaker 1: of minute early.
- 15:41Speaker 3: Right, first time? Game time is on time? Right? And
- 15:45Speaker 3: the other one it's my father used to tell me.
- 15:47Speaker 3: If you're always early, you're never late. My family doesn't
- 15:51Speaker 3: believe in that. I do. If you're always early, you're
- 15:54Speaker 3: never late, and then there's no panic. Like last time
- 15:56Speaker 3: I went on I was upside down on foul Territory.
- 15:59Speaker 3: That was that's a national broadcast, it's a national podcast,
- 16:03Speaker 3: and I'm upside down this time for early early, I
- 16:07Speaker 3: was here early, ready to go.
- 16:10Speaker 1: I hope you'll have we will we will, Yeah, we
- 16:14Speaker 1: we love having you on and I love the show.
- 16:17Speaker 7: It's great.
- 16:18Speaker 1: The stuff that they just covered to with the trades
- 16:20Speaker 1: is awesome, so make sure you check that out of
- 16:22Speaker 1: and encouraging everyone to check out all the trade as
- 16:24Speaker 1: the one.
- 16:25Speaker 3: More thing, lance Lynn, Yes, lance Linn went after all
- 16:27Speaker 3: the owners you know about the Dodgers, and it got
- 16:32Speaker 3: like six hundred maybe seven hundred thousand views. All right,
- 16:37Speaker 3: lance Lynn is instant offense. Now, he's still a performer
- 16:42Speaker 3: professional athlete, so getting him to do it is is
- 16:45Speaker 3: still like hurting cats.
- 16:48Speaker 7: There it is.
- 16:49Speaker 1: There's twenty nine billionaires bitching about another billionaire doing it
- 16:53Speaker 1: better than they can do it. Lance Lynn saying other
- 16:55Speaker 1: teams should take a page out of the Dodgers book,
- 16:57Speaker 1: and here come the comments.
- 16:59Speaker 7: We can't there. It's not fair you guys only like
- 17:03Speaker 7: the Dodgers.
- 17:05Speaker 3: Listen, Well, that's that's true. And for smaller market teams
- 17:10Speaker 3: investing in one guy who could blow out his arm,
- 17:13Speaker 3: then you're handicapped for a long long time. So I'm
- 17:16Speaker 3: not saying lance is totally wrong, but I think in fairness,
- 17:20Speaker 3: which I try to be AJ. I think there's nuance
- 17:23Speaker 3: to that, and I don't think every owner even though
- 17:26Speaker 3: the value of the team doesn't go down if they
- 17:29Speaker 3: have a bad season. I get all that, I understand everything,
- 17:32Speaker 3: but the truth is cost certainty is still a very
- 17:35Speaker 3: important thing for a lot of teams. Now you have
- 17:38Speaker 3: a labor situation that could cause a lockout. You had
- 17:42Speaker 3: basically that TV deals collapsing, so every team is making
- 17:47Speaker 3: less money on that. So it's a different situation for
- 17:50Speaker 3: different teams, and I think to the view on that
- 17:54Speaker 3: from my perspective, has to be more nuanced. Look up
- 17:58Speaker 3: that word. Look up, look up that word AJ.
- 18:03Speaker 2: It's more than one syllable. It's a syllable Jim.
- 18:07Speaker 7: What he's saying is revenue sharing is caring, but revenue
- 18:10Speaker 7: sharing means spend it on your actual team and not
- 18:13Speaker 7: real estate, spend it on players.
- 18:16Speaker 3: I'm for that, but there's got to be a balance
- 18:19Speaker 3: to help teams that don't have a TV deal like
- 18:22Speaker 3: the Dodgers do because of a divorce many years ago
- 18:25Speaker 3: and tax implications that make it freaking hilarious now. They
- 18:29Speaker 3: did also with shohe understand the value of him, because
- 18:33Speaker 3: my guess is probably paid off his contract because he's
- 18:36Speaker 3: so valuable. From a fan marketing, merch perspective, the Dodgers
- 18:43Speaker 3: saw that. Other people didn't, you know, other teams had
- 18:45Speaker 3: a chance at that. I get all that, But still,
- 18:47Speaker 3: the smaller markets just don't have the resources that a
- 18:51Speaker 3: team like the Dodgers have. So again, I think the
- 18:54Speaker 3: perspective on that should be more nuanced.
- 18:57Speaker 4: Don't. They don't have a village in less Field either,
- 19:00Speaker 4: where their old stadium used to be. All this small market.
- 19:03Speaker 4: Wait a minute, they do.
- 19:05Speaker 3: Hold on, Hold on, hold on. If I hadn't been
- 19:08Speaker 3: so bad, if I hadn't been so bad at my job,
- 19:11Speaker 3: if I hadn't been so bad at my job, then
- 19:14Speaker 3: maybe the broadcast partner fan Duel Bally's, whatever it was,
- 19:19Speaker 3: would not have collapsed. It's kind of my fault, So
- 19:23Speaker 3: that's why I'm sticking up with the Cardinals.
- 19:25Speaker 7: Jim, I'm sure you've never heard that.
- 19:26Speaker 3: Before forty they lost forty they lost forty billion dollars,
- 19:30Speaker 3: forty million dollars, you know, and that, so you know
- 19:34Speaker 3: that's a hit and it's my fault.
- 19:37Speaker 1: No, Jim, I'm sure you've never heard this but there's
- 19:39Speaker 1: a there's an old saying, it's not you, it's me.

- 21:31Speaker 1: up again, man.
- 21:32Speaker 7: How you doing. How is the deadline for the Pirates?
- 21:35Speaker 8: It was good, and I think the Pirates.
- 21:37Speaker 9: I'm doing well and I think the Pirates had a
- 21:39Speaker 9: good deadline. The results haven't necessarily been there because all
- 21:43Speaker 9: they went out and did was go get bullpen pitching.
- 21:45Speaker 9: And that's not the issue right now, ironically, although it
- 21:48Speaker 9: has been for them all season. The bullpen hasn't really
- 21:51Speaker 9: been needed because right now they're not scoring a lot
- 21:53Speaker 9: of runs and their starting rotation isn't doing a great
- 21:55Speaker 9: job either, which has allowed them to fall on this
- 21:58Speaker 9: little skid. But if they ever need a bullpen, they've
- 22:01Speaker 9: got a better one.
- 22:01Speaker 4: Now that's fair, No, I guess it happens.
- 22:08Speaker 2: It is no, So wait, they don't have a good bullpen.
- 22:10Speaker 5: They're starting pitching stinks and they can in That sounds
- 22:13Speaker 5: like a terrible recipe to win games in baseball.
- 22:16Speaker 8: And that's why they've lost.
- 22:17Speaker 9: I mean, if they lose today in Milwaukee, I think
- 22:19Speaker 9: they will have lost every series since the All Star Break,
- 22:23Speaker 9: aside from the first one out of the break. They
- 22:25Speaker 9: took two or three in Cleveland, and then they lost
- 22:27Speaker 9: two or three in New York. They lost two or
- 22:29Speaker 9: three against the Cubs, then to the Diamondbacks. It's just
- 22:32Speaker 9: been a really tough go for them. Three or four
- 22:35Speaker 9: they fell over the last weekend in Cincinnati and now
- 22:38Speaker 9: they're looking to split in a four gamer against the Brewers.
- 22:42Speaker 9: And yeah, their offense is fallen cold. I mean, they're
- 22:45Speaker 9: really really struggling against left handed pitching, especially yesterday with
- 22:50Speaker 9: eight straight strikeouts there, but overall, yeah, and then the
- 22:54Speaker 9: starting rotation, which was supposed to be the primary strength
- 22:57Speaker 9: of this team. It hasn't been horrible, but it's it's
- 23:00Speaker 9: nowhere near good enough to get by right now, especially
- 23:04Speaker 9: with the offense struggling.
- 23:05Speaker 4: Like it is all right, We're just going right to it,
- 23:08Speaker 4: he said, starting rotation, Paul Skeens, Do you fear there
- 23:12Speaker 4: is an injury? And I don't care about velocity, downtick
- 23:16Speaker 4: all that stuff. Plenty of good pitchers control their velocity
- 23:20Speaker 4: and then up ticket when it needs to be. To me,
- 23:23Speaker 4: when I watch the control doesn't seem to be what
- 23:26Speaker 4: it was when he was elite Paul Skins. Now he's
- 23:30Speaker 4: just really above average Paul Skins. But what do you see?
- 23:33Speaker 9: No, I'm seeing the same thing, Eric. I mean, you're
- 23:36Speaker 9: seeing a guy who I think is the command just
- 23:40Speaker 9: isn't as sharp.
- 23:40Speaker 8: The location just isn't there. And to me, that says
- 23:44Speaker 8: one of two things.
- 23:45Speaker 9: He is either injured and not telling anyone, which is
- 23:48Speaker 9: a major problem. I don't anticipate that being the case,
- 23:51Speaker 9: because I mean, how many players are more important to
- 23:54Speaker 9: their franchise than Paul skiings here in Pittsburgh if there
- 23:57Speaker 9: was even something remotely wrong physically, I'd have to assume
- 24:01Speaker 9: he'd be on the il right now. So it leads
- 24:04Speaker 9: me to believe it's probably the second thing in my mind,
- 24:06Speaker 9: and that's just fatigue.
- 24:08Speaker 8: I don't know if.
- 24:09Speaker 9: It's World Baseball Classic. I don't necessarily subscribe to that theory.
- 24:13Speaker 9: Maybe it was something different he did in the off season.
- 24:17Speaker 9: But when a guy's velocity's going down, which I know
- 24:20Speaker 9: isn't like the primary concern for me either, but when
- 24:23Speaker 9: you pair that with his command just not being able
- 24:26Speaker 9: to execute pitches on the edges of the zone, and
- 24:30Speaker 9: you see his stuff kind of take a drop off
- 24:34Speaker 9: after the first time through the order. He looks good
- 24:36Speaker 9: on his good days through the first three innings, and
- 24:39Speaker 9: then you look at yesterday. Fourth inning is where it
- 24:43Speaker 9: kind of starts to get away. I mean, he's walking
- 24:45Speaker 9: more batters. He's had back to back starts with four walks.
- 24:48Speaker 9: I don't know if he's ever done that in his
- 24:49Speaker 9: career prior to these back to back games. So I
- 24:53Speaker 9: think it's fatigue, probably not injury. But the only person
- 24:56Speaker 9: who really knows the answer here is Paul Schemes himself.
- 25:01Speaker 5: Why wouldn't he say anything if he was injured, that's
- 25:03Speaker 5: the only thing. Was he just trying to gut through it,
- 25:06Speaker 5: because I mean, I know, you guys say, don't look
- 25:08Speaker 5: at the velocity, but his velocity is down a significant amount.
- 25:12Speaker 5: It's not one or two ticks, it's three or four ticks,
- 25:15Speaker 5: which is a big deal. And I'm sorry, you know
- 25:18Speaker 5: you can you know you and Eric just said, don't
- 25:21Speaker 5: look at the velocity. But that's the first indication of
- 25:23Speaker 5: something not being right. And then you add in his
- 25:27Speaker 5: command is down, Well, if something is bothering you, then
- 25:30Speaker 5: you have to change your mechanics, which then lead to
- 25:32Speaker 5: your command being off.
- 25:33Speaker 2: Again.
- 25:33Speaker 5: I'm not saying he's hurt, but I think the velocity
- 25:36Speaker 5: is a big deal.
- 25:38Speaker 8: And that's I mean, everyone kind of does too.
- 25:41Speaker 9: But then every time he gets asked about it, he
- 25:43Speaker 9: tells anyone who will listen, that's not a big deal,
- 25:46Speaker 9: that it's by design, that he's not concerned about it,
- 25:48Speaker 9: and all he can do is kind of take his
- 25:51Speaker 9: word for it, right, And it's like, Okay, well, if
- 25:52Speaker 9: it's not a big deal, then why is it not higher?
- 25:56Speaker 9: Like if it's by design, then why are the rest
- 25:58Speaker 9: of the pitches not effective, right, Because if theoretically, if
- 26:02Speaker 9: you're trying to take your velo down to go deeper
- 26:04Speaker 9: into ball games, then you should be going deeper into
- 26:07Speaker 9: ball games, and he's not doing that, then your secondary
- 26:11Speaker 9: stuff should be playing off of it just as effectively.
- 26:13Speaker 9: And it's just not like every pitch he throws is
- 26:17Speaker 9: less effective than it was last year. It's not just
- 26:20Speaker 9: the fastball due to its velocity. The fastball still is
- 26:23Speaker 9: best pitch. It's just the secondary stuff he cannot spot it.
- 26:27Speaker 9: There were multiple instances yesterday and like the fourth inning,
- 26:31Speaker 9: if you look like the sweeper, that thing he could
- 26:34Speaker 9: he used to be able to unbutton someone's shirt with
- 26:35Speaker 9: that thing, or the slider, or just so many different
- 26:38Speaker 9: pitches that he has in his repertoire, and none of
- 26:41Speaker 9: them are going exactly where he wants him to go
- 26:42Speaker 9: right now.
- 26:43Speaker 8: You pair that with the velocity.
- 26:45Speaker 9: It leads the long innings, it leads to high pitch counts,
- 26:48Speaker 9: and it leads to walks and mistakes, and that's how
- 26:50Speaker 9: you get two. I think he's like at a three
- 26:53Speaker 9: nine eight RA but basically a four ERA for a
- 26:56Speaker 9: guy who entering this year had back to back years
- 26:58Speaker 9: of a sub two era.
- 27:01Speaker 4: Right, Well, this team turns it around, they make the playoffs.
- 27:06Speaker 4: Is he the number one starter in Game one?
- 27:08Speaker 9: I think so, just because I don't see a scenario
- 27:11Speaker 9: where this team makes the playoffs if Paul Skeins doesn't
- 27:13Speaker 9: turn it around. I mean, we could talk about the
- 27:15Speaker 9: offense struggling against left handed pitching, we could talk about
- 27:18Speaker 9: how bad the bullpen's been this year. The reality is,
- 27:21Speaker 9: if you're the Pirates and Paul Skeins isn't your best
- 27:23Speaker 9: player down this stretch, then you have no chance. And
- 27:26Speaker 9: I know he's just one guy on a roster of
- 27:28Speaker 9: twenty six. I know they have a lot of other
- 27:30Speaker 9: talented pitchers, but he is the difference maker on this
- 27:34Speaker 9: team that their opponents don't have when Paul Skeins is
- 27:37Speaker 9: at his best. How many teams that they're gonna be
- 27:40Speaker 9: playing from now until the end of September have someone
- 27:43Speaker 9: who can match him pitch for pitch. Not many, and
- 27:46Speaker 9: who knows if they're gonna be pitching against.
- 27:47Speaker 8: Him that day. So they need him to be the
- 27:50Speaker 8: old Paul Skins.
- 27:51Speaker 9: There's something really close to it, and we really just
- 27:54Speaker 9: have not seen that player this year, not since April
- 27:56Speaker 9: or early May. He's had some wins, he's had some
- 28:00Speaker 9: start some of them have been in July. But I mean,
- 28:03Speaker 9: you look at his last three wins, guys, or even
- 28:05Speaker 9: the last three times the Pirates have won.
- 28:07Speaker 8: When he's on the mound.
- 28:08Speaker 9: He's got tremendous run support. He's not pitching in high
- 28:11Speaker 9: stress situations. He's kind of been able to coast. And
- 28:15Speaker 9: I mean, I'm not gonna take those wins away from
- 28:17Speaker 9: him or those good outings away from them.
- 28:18Speaker 8: But so many times prior to this.
- 28:21Speaker 9: Year, we saw Paul Schins keep the Pirates in a
- 28:25Speaker 9: one nothing game through seven innings or eight innings, or
- 28:27Speaker 9: just say, get on my back, we're gonna win this game.
- 28:30Speaker 9: That's the player they need right now, when your offense
- 28:32Speaker 9: is struggling, when your bullpen is inconsistent, even though you
- 28:35Speaker 9: added at the deadline, they need their horse to be
- 28:37Speaker 9: a horse. And right now, I don't know if it's
- 28:40Speaker 9: reasonable to expect him to deliver anything more than five
- 28:43Speaker 9: to six innings and around three to four earned runs.
- 28:46Speaker 9: That's the pitcher he's been pretty much for the greater
- 28:50Speaker 9: part of three fourths of this season.
- 28:53Speaker 2: Okay, that's firir. Let's go to the offense a little bit.
- 28:56Speaker 5: They spend big money on the marsolo A Zuna this
- 28:59Speaker 5: offseason least, plus he didn't really give him anything other
- 29:02Speaker 5: than just a lot of outs, right So, and then
- 29:06Speaker 5: O'Hearn's on the aisle.
- 29:07Speaker 2: He's had a good year.
- 29:08Speaker 5: Is there enough enough offense on this team to carry
- 29:12Speaker 5: him through their struggles? I mean, some guys have had
- 29:14Speaker 5: nice years, but is there enough offense to carry him
- 29:17Speaker 5: through this struggles?
- 29:19Speaker 8: I think there is as a whole.
- 29:22Speaker 9: I mean, they're gonna get O'Neil Cruz back here in
- 29:24Speaker 9: the next couple of weeks. That'll be nice. They just
- 29:26Speaker 9: got Spencer Horowitz back. I mean against right handed pitching,
- 29:29Speaker 9: this is still a really good lineup. The problem is
- 29:32Speaker 9: they've been running into a lot of lefties. And let
- 29:34Speaker 9: me read off the names of the right handed hitters
- 29:35Speaker 9: on this team, Roe Flores, just Instant Garcia as Merlin Valdez.
- 29:40Speaker 9: Those are three rookies right there, and then the other
- 29:42Speaker 9: non rookies are Nick and Zalez, Jared Triolo, and Henry Davis.
- 29:46Speaker 8: Only one of those players.
- 29:48Speaker 9: Had an above LEA has had an above LEA gaverage ops,
- 29:51Speaker 9: and that's Nick and Zalez. This year as Merlin Valdez
- 29:54Speaker 9: had an amazing month of July, but we're starting to
- 29:57Speaker 9: see him come back down to earth a little bit.
- 29:59Speaker 9: They have some switch hit but all of those guys
- 30:01Speaker 9: are much more productive hitters on the left side. And
- 30:04Speaker 9: then they're really big acquisitions and just their true difference makers.
- 30:08Speaker 8: Lao O'Hearn, Horowitz, Cruz.
- 30:11Speaker 9: Those are left handed bats and most of those guys
- 30:14Speaker 9: are not very effective against left handed pitching. So if
- 30:17Speaker 9: they can run into a string of right handers and
- 30:20Speaker 9: kind of get lucky with waste of the schedule lays.
- 30:22Speaker 8: Out, then their offense will get going.
- 30:24Speaker 9: I think Cruz just coming back in general gives them
- 30:27Speaker 9: more offensively. If they could stay alive until Connor Griffin
- 30:30Speaker 9: can return in mid September, then sure they're gonna be better.
- 30:34Speaker 9: But I mean, they've been banged up all year. Losing
- 30:36Speaker 9: O'Hearn is tough for a multitude of reasons. They just
- 30:40Speaker 9: the ozunathing killed them all year because that was the
- 30:43Speaker 9: one guy that they depended on to give them some
- 30:46Speaker 9: form of slug threat against the lefty, and he didn't perform.
- 30:51Speaker 9: And when you don't have that one bat to look
- 30:53Speaker 9: out for, you're asking guys who just you're asking guys
- 30:58Speaker 9: to do things they probably just cannot do consistently against
- 31:01Speaker 9: left handed pitching, and that creates a volatile lineup whenever
- 31:05Speaker 9: you face a southpaw that's been their problem.
- 31:09Speaker 4: Who ends up winning the MVP of this team? If
- 31:11Speaker 4: if this team makes the playoffs? I already asked about
- 31:14Speaker 4: the pitching. Is it Brian Reynolds, Is it Brandon lo
- 31:19Speaker 4: Is it player X?
- 31:22Speaker 9: I would say, I mean, I would say it probably
- 31:25Speaker 9: be Lao. I think he's just been there. He's been
- 31:29Speaker 9: such a valuable acquisition. Him and ohearn both they both
- 31:32Speaker 9: kind of reminded me of the Russell Martin signing the
- 31:36Speaker 9: last time this team was a playoff team. They went
- 31:38Speaker 9: and got that established veteran that you know provides a
- 31:41Speaker 9: steady presence in the clubhouse but also backs it up
- 31:44Speaker 9: on the field with production. Lowes has just been so
- 31:47Speaker 9: good and O'Hearn probably would have been in this conversation too,
- 31:50Speaker 9: if he just didn't suffer a big injury.
- 31:52Speaker 8: And they've had other guys.
- 31:53Speaker 9: I thought Connor Griffin could have been in the argument
- 31:55Speaker 9: for that until he got hurt, But yeah, it would.
- 31:58Speaker 8: Probably be Lao. They needed to be schemes.
- 32:00Speaker 9: Though, if like I said before, if they're gonna make
- 32:03Speaker 9: the playoffs, Skins has to be their best player throughout
- 32:06Speaker 9: the remainder of the season. I don't know if that
- 32:08Speaker 9: can happen, but if he can find some magic and
- 32:12Speaker 9: become Paul Skins from twenty twenty five, then even if
- 32:16Speaker 9: that that erases all the struggles because he's still got
- 32:20Speaker 9: I don't know what seven eight starts left, maybe something
- 32:23Speaker 9: a little less than that. If they can win all
- 32:26Speaker 9: of those games or go seven to one and the
- 32:28Speaker 9: remainder of those games, they're probably making the playoffs because
- 32:31Speaker 9: they're they're winning at like a five hundred great without
- 32:34Speaker 9: him or even more so. That's that's the key here.
- 32:37Speaker 9: It really does come back to Skins. Although if you're
- 32:40Speaker 9: looking at a big picture low is their MVP.
- 32:47Speaker 5: Wow, Okay, good acquisition, then good acquisition for the very
- 32:51Speaker 5: good the Pirates, very good acquisition in Brandon Loud. Yeah,
- 32:54Speaker 5: so that's good. That's great to news. I mean, we're
- 32:56Speaker 5: rooting for him, We're all rooted for the Pirates. But
- 32:59Speaker 5: it's just interesting that the Pirates and the Rangers had
- 33:01Speaker 5: basically the same record and the Rangers went out and
- 33:04Speaker 5: bought and all this confidence, and the Rangers went out
- 33:06Speaker 5: and didn't do anything.
- 33:07Speaker 3: 're like, we have no chance.
- 33:08Speaker 4: One of them's in the playoffs right now. One of
- 33:10Speaker 4: them isn't in a playoff spot.
- 33:14Speaker 8: Yes, yeah, I mean you look.
- 33:17Speaker 9: I think the Pirates made some nice moves. I mean
- 33:20Speaker 9: they needed right handed pitching. I think they probably acquired
- 33:23Speaker 9: the best reliever that was moved this deadline, or one
- 33:25Speaker 9: of them and Weaver. I think Yates is a good
- 33:28Speaker 9: addition to that clubhouse. I think there are a lot
- 33:30Speaker 9: of young guys in that bullpen who probably could use
- 33:33Speaker 9: a veteran who's seen as much as Kirby Yates has
- 33:36Speaker 9: and gives that perspective and he's a better alternative than
- 33:38Speaker 9: really any other right hander that they had to choose from.
- 33:41Speaker 9: And then Lake Baker is a nice little long term edition,
- 33:44Speaker 9: a guy who can give them a little bit more
- 33:46Speaker 9: length in that bullpen.
- 33:47Speaker 8: So yeah, I think they made their bullpen better.
- 33:49Speaker 9: But they probably could have used the right handed bat,
- 33:51Speaker 9: probably could have used another starter. It didn't feel like
- 33:55Speaker 9: they got the investment financially that they probably should have received.
- 34:00Speaker 9: While they were able to add a lot of they
- 34:02Speaker 9: added four major league right handers if you include Dovevall
- 34:05Speaker 9: into that mix, who they got a couple of days
- 34:06Speaker 9: prior to the deadline. You know, two of the guys
- 34:09Speaker 9: they brought in had salary covered by the teams that
- 34:12Speaker 9: traded them away, and Yates is on an expiring deal
- 34:15Speaker 9: he's a rental and Balker's pre art, so they were
- 34:18Speaker 9: able to pretty much keep the finances even when you
- 34:21Speaker 9: consider that they moved Joey Bart that was a salary dump,
- 34:24Speaker 9: same for Archidi jose Arkhidy, and then they traded that
- 34:29Speaker 9: comp pick which it was worth a couple million bucks.
- 34:31Speaker 9: So like they kept the books even they got the
- 34:33Speaker 9: team better. But if they would have maybe added a
- 34:35Speaker 9: little bit more in payroll probably and added another established
- 34:39Speaker 9: rental right handed bat to help with their left he woes,
- 34:42Speaker 9: or maybe even another starter to help cover some innings,
- 34:45Speaker 9: because this young rotation is clearly running out of gas,
- 34:48Speaker 9: they'd probably be in a better situation heading into this
- 34:51Speaker 9: final stretch.
- 34:52Speaker 7: My last one. Then, how's the city?
- 34:55Speaker 1: Are they feeling better than they have for a while?
- 35:00Speaker 1: You know, I feel like there's a lot of PTSD,
- 35:02Speaker 1: there's a lot of hurt recently from the city or
- 35:06Speaker 1: something recently it's been like ten years now, so do
- 35:08Speaker 1: you feel like they heal fast and they're like, we're good.
- 35:13Speaker 1: You know what was the reaction just now at the deadline,
- 35:15Speaker 1: like you mentioned, I mean, it's still the same overlying theme.
- 35:18Speaker 1: I get it right, Like we can't add money at
- 35:20Speaker 1: the deadline. They did add money and the offseason money
- 35:23Speaker 1: is not everything, but it's it damn made a difference.
- 35:26Speaker 7: Helps to get the team to relevancy. It helped a lot.
- 35:28Speaker 1: And we're not asking for the world here, We're just
- 35:30Speaker 1: asking for, you know, a little bit to help the boys.
- 35:34Speaker 7: I'd say.
- 35:35Speaker 9: I mean people are disappointed. I mean they went into
- 35:39Speaker 9: the All Star Break winning four of their last six,
- 35:42Speaker 9: including a three game sweep over the Milwaukee Brewers, a
- 35:45Speaker 9: team that pirates really just can never beat. And then
- 35:48Speaker 9: they came out and took two or three from the Guards.
- 35:51Speaker 9: And they had this big home stand a couple of
- 35:53Speaker 9: weekends ago against the Cubs and the Diamondbacks, two teams
- 35:56Speaker 9: that were just ahead of them in the wildcard standings,
- 36:00Speaker 9: an opportunity to really build some ground, and.
- 36:04Speaker 8: They just didn't do anything with that.
- 36:06Speaker 9: And it's been really dejecting over the last week to
- 36:08Speaker 9: see them lose three or four against the Reds. I
- 36:12Speaker 9: think they gained a little bit momentum in the town
- 36:15Speaker 9: to see the bullpen being addressed. People were excited because
- 36:18Speaker 9: the bar is so low here.
- 36:19Speaker 3: Man.
- 36:19Speaker 8: Anytime they're even five hundred, people start to believe.
- 36:23Speaker 9: And yeah, I mean if they lose today, this will
- 36:25Speaker 9: be the most games under five hundred they've been all year.
- 36:28Speaker 8: There'll be three games under five hundred.
- 36:29Speaker 9: And the Steelers are in camp, and people who have
- 36:32Speaker 9: played here know how this goes, or people who've lived here.
- 36:35Speaker 9: It's if they're not close to irrelevant or you know,
- 36:40Speaker 9: if they're not in it, they're gonna get forgotten about
- 36:42Speaker 9: very quickly.
- 36:43Speaker 8: And that's where this is trending right now. Now.
- 36:45Speaker 9: You have the Mets coming in over the weekend, and
- 36:47Speaker 9: if you win today and then take a series over
- 36:49Speaker 9: the Mets back over your back around five hundred, you're
- 36:52Speaker 9: still in this thing. And I do think they have
- 36:54Speaker 9: a favorable schedule down the stretch compared to what they've
- 36:56Speaker 9: gone through in June and July.
- 36:58Speaker 8: But it does feel like another collapse.
- 37:00Speaker 9: And you saw a collapse with this team in twenty eleven,
- 37:03Speaker 9: twenty twelve, sixteen, seventeen, eighteen, nineteen, and twenty four, where
- 37:09Speaker 9: they're always competitive around July and it just feels like
- 37:13Speaker 9: they don't get the shot in the arm they need,
- 37:15Speaker 9: or something goes wrong.
- 37:17Speaker 8: And they fall apart in by mid August.
- 37:19Speaker 9: It's just kind of a relevant baseball and I think
- 37:22Speaker 9: fans have just seen it so many times they're worried
- 37:25Speaker 9: that that's what's happening again here.
- 37:26Speaker 3: Right.
- 37:27Speaker 1: That was the feeling that I got when I was
- 37:29Speaker 1: just you know, scrolling through comments after the deadline, where
- 37:31Speaker 1: it's just a lot of hesitancy, like, Okay, we're not
- 37:34Speaker 1: going to go crazy and do our temper tantrum that
- 37:37Speaker 1: was warranted for years, but we're also not going to
- 37:40Speaker 1: be like this is the greatest thing ever. We got
- 37:42Speaker 1: the best reliever. So it's just like a very tempered
- 37:46Speaker 1: run right through the next couple months, and a lot
- 37:48Speaker 1: of the other teams that were bubble teams around them
- 37:50Speaker 1: actually did either sell or do nothing. I mean, the
- 37:52Speaker 1: Nationals sold, right, the Marlins sold, the Cardinals sold, a
- 37:56Speaker 1: lot of the teams in a very similar spot.
- 37:59Speaker 9: Right, Yeah, yeah, I mean it's just we'll see, we'll
- 38:03Speaker 9: see what happens. I mean, they have the pieces theoretically,
- 38:05Speaker 9: it's just the guys here just need to play better
- 38:08Speaker 9: at this point.
- 38:08Speaker 8: I mean, the Reynolds needs to get going.
- 38:12Speaker 9: They need to get healthier and more than anything, like
- 38:15Speaker 9: I said, the starting rotation, you have a starting rotation
- 38:18Speaker 9: where every person in this rotation was a top one
- 38:20Speaker 9: hundred prospect at one point. All of them were first
- 38:23Speaker 9: round picks or second round picks, high bonus players to
- 38:27Speaker 9: you know, all stars, guys who have received a.
- 38:30Speaker 8: Lot of recognition.
- 38:31Speaker 9: It's time for them to be the best part of
- 38:33Speaker 9: this team because they just have not been the best
- 38:35Speaker 9: part of this team at any point of this year,
- 38:38Speaker 9: right that was the.
- 38:38Speaker 1: Part they're building rang you' at least concerned about. And
- 38:40Speaker 1: that's just how baseball works. All of a sudden, you're like,
- 38:43Speaker 1: oh wow, this offense and then oh wow, they don't
- 38:45Speaker 1: have a bullpen all that. So no, a great, great
- 38:47Speaker 1: recap of what's going on here. Good catching up man,
- 38:50Speaker 1: Talk to you soon.
- 38:50Speaker 8: Okay, absolutely, guys, thanks for having me on.
- 38:53Speaker 7: Thank you.
- 38:54Speaker 1: That's Noahile's You can read his work, of course, you
- 38:56Speaker 1: can follow him and you can listen to him on
- 38:58Speaker 1: Bucko Territory. It's him, It's Platinum Key it's Josh Ireson.
- 39:01Speaker 1: They're great vibes and energy. I remember listening to their
- 39:04Speaker 1: first episode in Dad Chemistry, then of course now really
- 39:07Speaker 1: running it.
