- 0:48Don Armstrong: What's that, David?
- 0:50Don Armstrong: Well, you can't see me, but I can hear you and you can hear me.
- 0:54Don Armstrong: So there may be some ghosts in your in your program.
- 0:59Jeff Dziekan: Well, Larry was he was uh messing with Larry this morning.
- 1:01Jeff Dziekan: Larry is the cat.
- 1:02Jeff Dziekan: Larry is the cat.
- 1:03Jeff Dziekan: Black cat.
- 1:04Jeff Dziekan: Yeah.
- 1:04Jeff Dziekan: He'd like chasing stuff on the TV.
- 1:06Don Armstrong: I'd like to say good morning to uh Kansas Candace Sneed and Kathy Cole Thibodeau.
- 1:11Don Armstrong: They are in town for the Westbury High School class reunion.
- 1:14Jeff Dziekan: I read some in the paper.
- 1:15Jeff Dziekan: There's a big hoopla, and there was a lot of activity going on.
- 1:18Don Armstrong: A lot of drunkenness last night.
- 1:21Jeff Dziekan: FBI was involved.
- 1:22Don Armstrong: Oh, we only had one margarita.
- 1:26Don Armstrong: Not well, one picture's gonna say.
- 1:43Jeff Dziekan: Are you in a white van?
- 1:44SPEAKER_04: It's David Epstein here.
- 1:46Don Armstrong: Oh, good lord.
- 1:47Don Armstrong: No, we don't want to even go there.
- 1:49Don Armstrong: But uh yeah.
- 1:50Don Armstrong: So uh did you hear me uh kind of uh uh spill the beans on your new uh found uh fun button over there uh to get into the show?
- 2:00SPEAKER_04: I I did, and I'm not gonna turn my camera on because I've been out sweating in the garage trying to clean it up.
- 2:06SPEAKER_04: The spider infestation cell.
- 2:08Don Armstrong: Oh, really?
- 2:10Don Armstrong: Is that weird car that your son bought?
- 2:12Don Armstrong: Is it still in there?
- 2:13SPEAKER_04: It is.
- 2:14Don Armstrong: What is that thing?
- 2:15SPEAKER_04: It's a uh Suzuki Wagon R.
- 2:19SPEAKER_04: Right hand drive.
- 2:21SPEAKER_04: And it gets 50, yeah, right hand drive.
- 2:23SPEAKER_04: It gets 58 miles to the gallon.
- 2:25SPEAKER_04: What does it got?
- 2:26SPEAKER_04: One cylinder in it?
- 2:27SPEAKER_04: Three-cylinder.
- 2:28SPEAKER_04: A three-cylinder.
- 2:30SPEAKER_04: Top sounds about 85 miles.
- 2:32Don Armstrong: That is the weirdest little it looks almost like a uh itty bitty teeny weeny little milk truck, yeah, like a tuk-tuck.
- 2:40Jeff Dziekan: A tuk tuck, there you go.
- 2:42Jeff Dziekan: But but you know what?
- 2:42Jeff Dziekan: The Chevy Trax has a three-cylinder in it, but I don't think it gets 50 miles to a gallon.
- 2:48Don Armstrong: Well, there you go.
- 2:49Don Armstrong: Yeah, so what year is your tuk-tuck?
- 2:52SPEAKER_04: Tuk tuck is a 1999, I believe.
- 2:56Don Armstrong: Wow.
- 2:56Don Armstrong: Yeah, so it's over 25 years old.
- 2:58Don Armstrong: Sport model.
- 2:59Don Armstrong: Yeah, so you're able to import those after 25 years.
- 3:03Don Armstrong: Apparently, pardon me?
- 3:05SPEAKER_04: There's a cool place near Austin that deals these things, and they get them in, I guess, after you know.
- 3:11Don Armstrong: You know, I believe that he's been a guest on this show one time.
- 3:14Don Armstrong: Is that correct, Mr.
- 3:15Don Armstrong: Morris?
- 3:16Don Armstrong: Mike is muted, Mars.
- 3:18Don Armstrong: Mike is muted.
- 3:19Don Armstrong: Way to go, Mars.
- 3:20Mike Marrs: Yeah, he's been on a couple of times because uh we talked to him whenever he was trying to work with the legislature to try and get some rules changed.
- 3:26Don Armstrong: Yeah, I remember that.
- 3:29Don Armstrong: Interesting.
- 3:30Don Armstrong: Okay.
- 3:31Don Armstrong: Well, thank you, David, for joining us.
- 3:33SPEAKER_04: Well, I will, and I'm I'm waiting for the uh for the uh the big pro car.
- 3:39unknown: Okay.
- 3:40SPEAKER_04: He wants to buy a car.
- 3:42Don Armstrong: Let's do that.
- 3:43Don Armstrong: Let's let's do this first.
- 3:44Don Armstrong: Go ahead, Mike.
- 3:45Don Armstrong: We're gonna do the sold car roundup from uh Hemings, and this happened uh last week.
- 3:50Jeff Dziekan: Well, we got Jeff uh Heitzman and hopefully George is on the line.
- 3:54Don Armstrong: Okay, good.
- 3:55Don Armstrong: All right.
- 3:55Don Armstrong: So our first car up this morning is a 1988 Cadillac Fleetwood.
- 4:01Don Armstrong: Now we're talking about a big car here, but it's a it's a sharp-looking car with square headlights.
- 4:07Don Armstrong: Look at that beauty.
- 4:09Don Armstrong: But somebody put black walls on that.
- 4:11Jeff Dziekan: Now they're probably getting ready to tub it out.
- 4:15Don Armstrong: Oh, good.
- 4:17Don Armstrong: That's wrong.
- 4:17Jeff Dziekan: And it's got the landauroof.
- 4:20Jeff Dziekan: That's all right, too, because that's a that's a brome.
- 4:22Jeff Dziekan: It's a broham.
- 4:25Jeff Dziekan: Broham.
- 4:26SPEAKER_04: I bet you that feels like a marshmallow when you're going to.
- 4:28Jeff Dziekan: Oh, you bet.
- 4:29Jeff Dziekan: I'm I'm I'm drooling a little bit.
- 4:30Jeff Dziekan: So how much do you think that that car sold for?
- 4:33Jeff Dziekan: That car sold for$17,000.
- 4:36Jeff Dziekan: Okay.
- 4:37Jeff Dziekan: How much?
- 4:38Jeff Dziekan: David?
- 4:38Jeff Dziekan: $10,000.
- 4:39Jeff Dziekan: Jeff Heisman says$33,000.
- 4:42Mike Marrs: George is up in Kansas, so I don't I'm not sure he's okay.
- 4:46Don Armstrong: All right, all right.
- 4:46Don Armstrong: So that's all right.
- 4:48Don Armstrong: Because this car sold for$5,500.
- 4:53Don Armstrong: It doesn't even need any interior work.
- 4:55Don Armstrong: Well, the driver's seat is a little rough, but that's okay.
- 4:58Don Armstrong: But we but leave it, just drive it.
- 5:00Don Armstrong: That's the that's the whole goal there.
- 5:02Don Armstrong: All right, next up.
- 5:04Don Armstrong: A 1963 Pontiac Catalina convertible.
- 5:10Don Armstrong: That, my friends, is a car that Don Armstrong would look really good driving.
- 5:15Don Armstrong: Waving, waving, waving down the street.
- 5:17Mike Marrs: Doing doing your your queen wave from the back seat.
- 5:22Don Armstrong: Yeah, oh stop.
- 5:24Don Armstrong: It just makes my heartbeat fast.
- 5:25Mike Marrs: Both hairs flowing in the air.
- 5:27Don Armstrong: Yeah, both hair.
- 5:28Don Armstrong: Yeah, that's right.
- 5:28Don Armstrong: 1963 Pontiac Catalina.
- 5:31Don Armstrong: How much did it sell for?
- 5:32Don Armstrong: 21.
- 5:33Don Armstrong: 28.
- 5:35Don Armstrong: How much?
- 5:35Don Armstrong: 28, did you say?
- 5:36Mike Marrs: Yep.
- 5:37Don Armstrong: Okay, 28.
- 5:38Mike Marrs: That's a nice looking car.
- 5:39Don Armstrong: Jeff says 19.
- 5:41Don Armstrong: Okay, get this.
- 5:42Don Armstrong: Everybody sitting down?
- 5:43Don Armstrong: It sold for 39.9.
- 5:46Don Armstrong: Wow.
- 5:47Don Armstrong: That is a nice car.
- 5:48Don Armstrong: It is.
- 5:49Don Armstrong: I got another nice car.
- 5:50Don Armstrong: Uh, this would be perfect for George.
- 5:53Don Armstrong: A 1941 Cadillac 62.
- 5:58Don Armstrong: Not big on the uh Mexican blanket uh cover up on the seat there, but 41 Cadillac 62.
- 6:05Don Armstrong: It's a two-door fastback, wide whites.
- 6:07Don Armstrong: How much did that sell for?
- 6:09Don Armstrong: The green color would turn me on.
- 6:11Don Armstrong: I couldn't do green.
- 6:12Don Armstrong: No green.
- 6:13Mike Marrs: Uh green kind of I don't I'm not sure that's a factory color, even.
- 6:16Jeff Dziekan: Well, we don't care.
- 6:17Jeff Dziekan: We know the blanket's not.
- 6:18Jeff Dziekan: Yeah.
- 6:20Jeff Dziekan: How much did that thing sell for?
- 6:21Mike Marrs: It could have been built in Mexico.
- 6:23Jeff Dziekan: I'm thinking$10,000.
- 6:26Don Armstrong: $29.
- 6:27unknown: $29.
- 6:28Jeff Dziekan: Wow, we're all over.
- 6:29Don Armstrong: And Jeff says$41.
- 6:30Don Armstrong: Well, it sold for$18,375.
- 6:33Jeff Dziekan: Yeah.
- 6:34Don Armstrong: Now it needs a repaint.
- 6:35Don Armstrong: If I was gonna buy it, it'd have to go to Randy.
- 6:38Jeff Dziekan: Yeah.
- 6:39Jeff Dziekan: It's some mechanical work there on the other one.
- 6:41Jeff Dziekan: I don't know what that is.
- 6:42unknown: Whatever.
- 6:43Jeff Dziekan: All right.
- 6:43Jeff Dziekan: Next up.
- 6:44Don Armstrong: A 1961 Chevrolet Apache.
- 6:48Mike Marrs: There's that green again.
- 6:50Don Armstrong: There's yeah, I know.
- 6:51Don Armstrong: A 61 Chevy Apache.
- 6:53Don Armstrong: Now, this is what we called a step side, not a fleet side.
- 6:57Don Armstrong: The fleet side was smooth.
- 6:59Don Armstrong: The step side, I don't know why anybody bought those things, but they did.
- 7:02Don Armstrong: Because it narrowed the bed.
- 7:04Don Armstrong: 61 Chevy Apache.
- 7:06Don Armstrong: It looks clean.
- 7:07Don Armstrong: How much?
- 7:09Don Armstrong: 15.
- 7:10Don Armstrong: 18.
- 7:13Don Armstrong: And Mr.
- 7:14Don Armstrong: Heitzman says 12.
- 7:18Don Armstrong: It sold for six sixteen thousand eight hundred dollars.
- 7:25Mike Marrs: It's a pretty nice drive.
- 7:27Don Armstrong: Well, you know, it might not be a V8.
- 7:29Don Armstrong: It might be a straight six.
- 7:31Mike Marrs: No, it's it's got a V8.
- 7:33Mike Marrs: How do you know?
- 7:34Mike Marrs: Oh, I see.
- 7:35Mike Marrs: It's in the picture.
- 7:36Don Armstrong: Well, I wasn't looking at the damn picture, okay?
- 7:39Don Armstrong: He doesn't have the first shot, evidently.
- 7:41Don Armstrong: Okay, next up, a 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air four-door.
- 7:48Mike Marrs: Hard top.
- 7:49Jeff Dziekan: It's a hard top.
- 7:51unknown: Yeah.
- 7:51Jeff Dziekan: Four-door hard top.
- 7:52Jeff Dziekan: 21.
- 7:53Jeff Dziekan: I'm just gonna blurt it out.
- 7:55Jeff Dziekan: Blurt it out.
- 7:56Jeff Dziekan: Blurred it.
- 7:56Jeff Dziekan: I blurted 21.
- 7:58Jeff Dziekan: 17.
- 7:59Jeff Dziekan: I think you might be on there, Dave.
- 8:02Jeff Dziekan: We might be on.
- 8:03Don Armstrong: So uh is Mr.
- 8:05Don Armstrong: Heights.
- 8:06Don Armstrong: I'm still contemplating.
- 8:08Don Armstrong: Yeah, I guess.
- 8:09Mike Marrs: But we want to give him time to get the data in there.
- 8:11Mike Marrs: There you go.
- 8:12Don Armstrong: There you go.
- 8:13Don Armstrong: 9,000.
- 8:13Don Armstrong: So it's Jeff is spot on 17,325.
- 8:19SPEAKER_04: David.
- 8:20Don Armstrong: Oh, I'm sorry, David.
- 8:21Don Armstrong: Whatever.
- 8:22Don Armstrong: Have some coffee, Don.
- 8:24Don Armstrong: Here, here, here's here's a Don Hook.
- 8:26Don Armstrong: Here's a Don Armstrong car.
- 8:28Don Armstrong: A 1955 Studebaker E7.
- 8:34Don Armstrong: We talked about the Studebaker not that long ago on this show.
- 8:37Don Armstrong: 55 Studebaker E7.
- 8:39Jeff Dziekan: I have no idea.
- 8:41Don Armstrong: And uh Studebaker made pickup trucks for a very short period of time.
- 8:45Don Armstrong: And um it kind of has an automobile look to it.
- 8:49Don Armstrong: It does be honest with you.
- 8:51Mike Marrs: Big wide fat fenders on it.
- 8:52Don Armstrong: Yes.
- 8:53Don Armstrong: But they're smooth.
- 8:55Don Armstrong: Anyway, 55 Studebaker E7.
- 8:58Don Armstrong: How much?
- 9:00Mike Marrs: I'm gonna go uh it's got a V8 in it as well.
- 9:03Mike Marrs: It's not a modern, not a new one, but A V8.
- 9:06Jeff Dziekan: Jeff Heisman says 11.
- 9:08Jeff Dziekan: I'm gonna go 18.
- 9:10Jeff Dziekan: I'm gonna go 22.
- 9:11Don Armstrong: How about 14175?
- 9:14Jeff Dziekan: We're still all over the board.
- 9:16unknown: Yeah.
- 9:17Don Armstrong: Okay, we're getting down here to the end.
- 9:18Don Armstrong: Next up is a 1981 Mercedes-Benz SL SL class.
- 9:24Don Armstrong: 81 now.
- 9:25Don Armstrong: 81.
- 9:26Mike Marrs: That's like 8 bucks.
- 9:28Mike Marrs: 8 bucks.
- 9:29Mike Marrs: It's got a manual transmission in it.
- 9:32Don Armstrong: Convertible.
- 9:34Don Armstrong: Pretty slick looking.
- 9:35Don Armstrong: It looks brand new.
- 9:36Mike Marrs: And what year again?
- 9:37Don Armstrong: This is an 81.
- 9:38Don Armstrong: $12,000.
- 9:43Don Armstrong: Okay.
- 9:46Don Armstrong: Jeff says$25.
- 9:48Don Armstrong: It's 19425.
- 9:52Don Armstrong: Heitzman, this could be your car.
- 9:54Don Armstrong: You'd look really good pulling up to NASA in the front of the one on that one.
- 9:57Don Armstrong: All right, next up, a 2007 GMC 1500.
- 10:04Don Armstrong: It looks extremely clean.
- 10:06Don Armstrong: It looks extremely stock.
- 10:09Don Armstrong: 07 GMC 1500.
- 10:11Don Armstrong: Half-ton pickup truck.
- 10:13Don Armstrong: And this is the four-door version.
- 10:15Jeff Dziekan: I want to say$8,000.
- 10:17Jeff Dziekan: What?
- 10:18Don Armstrong: $21.
- 10:20Don Armstrong: You've been smoking some.
- 10:21Don Armstrong: No.
- 10:21Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 10:22Don Armstrong: $21.
- 10:22Don Armstrong: I just don't know.
- 10:22Don Armstrong: David says.
- 10:23Jeff Dziekan: It doesn't do anything for me.
- 10:24Jeff Dziekan: I I just think of it as a very inexpensive work truck.
- 10:29Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, well, guess what?
- 10:30Jeff Dziekan: It's not.
- 10:30Jeff Dziekan: Okay.
- 10:31Mike Marrs: Well, Heitzman's still drilling over the red one, but he's here he is.
- 10:34Mike Marrs: 16.
- 10:35Don Armstrong: 16.
- 10:36Don Armstrong: It's sold for$19,950.
- 10:38Don Armstrong: So it's probably got some relatively low value.
- 10:41Jeff Dziekan: That vortex scares me.
- 10:42unknown: Okay, well, whatever.
- 10:44Don Armstrong: So that is your sold car roundup for this week.
- 10:47Don Armstrong: Right.
- 10:47Don Armstrong: Thank you to Hemings for that.
- 10:49Don Armstrong: Thank you to Automotive News for our news stories this morning.
- 10:52Don Armstrong: And thank you for being you.
- 10:54Don Armstrong: And don't go changing to try to please me.
- 10:56SPEAKER_05: That's right.
- 10:57Don Armstrong: There's a song in that somewhere.
- 10:58Don Armstrong: Okay, next up.
- 10:59Don Armstrong: All right.
- 10:59Don Armstrong: Story of the week.
- 11:01Don Armstrong: It's uh kind of long, but um, I think that you'll appreciate it.
- 11:06Don Armstrong: The Detroit 3 and some other automakers that largely walked away from sedans during the stampede to SUVs and crossovers are thinking about staging a car comeback.
- 11:16unknown: Okay.
- 11:17Don Armstrong: Soaring vehicle prices and proposed fuel economy rules that would categorize crossovers as cars instead of light trucks, are helping sedans look tra attractive again.
- 11:27Don Armstrong: General Motors plans to introduce a Buick sedan built on the same platform as the next generation Cadillac CT5 and Chevy Camaro.
- 11:34Don Armstrong: Okay, a source at uh GM told Automotive News.
- 11:38Don Armstrong: Stillantis, whose chief design guy says he's gotten tired of SUVs, is considering a new car that would cost less than 30 grand.
- 11:46Don Armstrong: Ford Motor Company CEO Jim Farley answered never say never when asked whether the automaker would revive sedans as an affordability play.
- 11:54Don Armstrong: Infinity plans to re-enter the sedan market in 2027 with a high-powered Q50S.
- 12:01Don Armstrong: And Mitsubishi, of all people, in November told dealers of a strategic shift in its product plan that could involve getting back into sedans.
- 12:11Don Armstrong: Sedans from Toyota and Honda were among the strongest performing vehicles in the U.S.
- 12:16Don Armstrong: during the first quarter of this year, while small crossovers lost share.
- 12:22Don Armstrong: No one expects cars to take overtake utilities as the average U.S.
- 12:26Don Armstrong: consumer's vehicle of choice again in the foreseeable future.
- 12:29Don Armstrong: But as transaction prices across the industry continue to rise, analysts see a sizable market for sedans that's become underserved.
- 12:39Don Armstrong: Light trucks have dominated at U.S.
- 12:41Don Armstrong: dealerships since the mid-2010s.
- 12:44Don Armstrong: The crossover craze was fueled by relatively low gasoline prices and consumers' desire for more space and ride height than a traditional sedan could offer.
- 12:53Don Armstrong: According to Mark Wakefield, global automotive market lead at Alex Partners.
- 12:59Don Armstrong: Last year utilities accounted for 58% of the new vehicle market, outselling sedans by about 3 to 1, according to SP Global Mobility.
- 13:08Don Armstrong: Sedans dwindled from 42% of the market in 2000 to fewer than one out of every five vehicles sold in the U.S.
- 13:15Don Armstrong: today.
- 13:16Don Armstrong: Toyota sold 78,000 Camry sedans from January through March, up 11% from the first quarter of 25.
- 13:23Don Armstrong: Honda sold 37 accord 37,000 Accords, up 22%, and sales of the Kia K5 rose 19% to 18,800.
- 13:33Don Armstrong: In the first quarter, since the late 2017 model year, that the Camry was Toyota's number one seller, topping the RAV 4 crossover.
- 13:41Don Armstrong: The Camry, Accord, and K-5 all have starting prices around 30 grand, appealing to price conscious consumers as the average U.S.
- 13:49Don Armstrong: transaction price for a new vehicle tops 50 grand.
- 13:52Jeff Dziekan: So with that being said, your thoughts on the Well, you said they're going to be building a car for under 30 grand?
- 14:01Don Armstrong: Under 30 is the well, they're going to be building a lot under 30 grand because the average price now is at 50 grand.
- 14:08Don Armstrong: Now, whether it's sedans or not, they're not really showing their hand, but they're saying we've got a lot of S.
- 14:13Jeff Dziekan: There's a lot of SUVs, but in the back is part of the story, the SUVs are the ones that are selling.
- 14:17Don Armstrong: My daughter that owns a um rogue is looking to buy another vehicle.
- 14:23Don Armstrong: Okay.
- 14:24Don Armstrong: Um because the lease is up on this.
- 14:26Don Armstrong: And I told her, I said, you know what?
- 14:28Don Armstrong: I want you to do me a favor and at least consider looking at a sedan.
- 14:34Don Armstrong: She's got a little one, my grandson, who's three years old, that sits in the back seat anyway.
- 14:38Don Armstrong: What does he care?
- 14:39Don Armstrong: Does she need an SUV?
- 14:41Don Armstrong: SUVs are expensive.
- 14:43Don Armstrong: There's more to an SUV than a car.
- 14:45Don Armstrong: Could it cost more?
- 14:47Don Armstrong: So look at it at a sedan.
- 14:49Jeff Dziekan: Well, you also have to look at your driving style too.
- 14:51Jeff Dziekan: SUVs, you sit higher up in the vehicle, you have a better radius of view.
- 14:56Jeff Dziekan: Uh some of them are built specific for uh not necessarily the the child, but they're constructed in a way that they're having more uh safety features in the back.
- 15:08Don Armstrong: It's kind of like in the old days with the station wagon that proceeds down right stuff like that.
- 15:11Don Armstrong: But see, that's going to stop.
- 15:13Don Armstrong: But you also have to remember the newer sedans, the back seats you could fold down and it opens up all the way to the right, and they've got the ski, the ski port, the little arms, all that stuff.
- 15:21Mike Marrs: But uh I just went through a a deal with my oldest granddaughter, or not the oldest one, but the one that's here.
- 15:28Mike Marrs: She's 21, she needed to buy a new car, did not would not even consider a two-door.
- 15:35Mike Marrs: Had to be a sedan, and but you know, but it's a sporty-looking sedan, and she's got some twin sisters that are 19, same thing.
- 15:44Mike Marrs: They don't want two-door cars, they want four-door vehicles, but they want something that looks sporty.
- 15:49Don Armstrong: And they don't want an SUV because that's what mom and grandma drive.
- 15:53Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 15:53Mike Marrs: Well, and maybe it's too big, or it's you know, they you're right, but they don't want it for a variety of reasons, but they're they're all into sedan, so it may be a just a generational thing where they're realizing a sedan's pretty good.
- 16:07Jeff Dziekan: Well, they're making SUVs sleeker, slope in the back to make them look more like a sedan, but they're SUV.
- 16:15Jeff Dziekan: Right, and but they're considered SUV when you go to register and they're an SUV.
- 16:19Don Armstrong: Well, I just think it's an interesting concept, and I I read the story, and then I told my daughter, hey, check it out.
- 16:26Don Armstrong: May find something there that you like, and at the affordability prices, yeah, there's that.
- 16:30Jeff Dziekan: It well, what also uh made me think is that they're gonna they're gonna have cars for under 30 grand.
- 16:36Jeff Dziekan: Where are they gonna buy them?
- 16:37Jeff Dziekan: From Ford?
- 16:38Don Armstrong: No, because it'll be recalled.
- 16:40Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, exactly.
- 16:42Jeff Dziekan: Buying from other manufacturers.
- 16:44Don Armstrong: Would you consider a sedan, Mars?
- 16:45Mike Marrs: Absolutely.
- 16:46Mike Marrs: Uh I don't think I would go back to a two-door unless it was like a Corvette or something very specialized, but otherwise, I mean they've got some of them that you can you can't even tell it's a four-door hardly.
- 16:56Mike Marrs: Right.
- 16:57Don Armstrong: Well, I will tell you, and I think that I may have mentioned this to you guys before, but you know, I'm not getting any younger.
- 17:03Don Armstrong: I am really getting tired of shifting.
- 17:05Don Armstrong: I have a six-speed manual transmission in the Corvette.
- 17:08Don Armstrong: It's getting harder and harder to sit down on the ground from a standing position because that's basically what you do in the Corvette.
- 17:14Jeff Dziekan: And that's a good point, too, because Kathy's Lexus, it's hard for me to, you know, bend down in the in the you got the door open and somebody push you in.
- 17:22Jeff Dziekan: So I I thought, what would I like?
- 17:24Don Armstrong: What would what would and I'll tell you, don't laugh.
- 17:28Don Armstrong: You know what I'd consider?
- 17:30Don Armstrong: Go for it.
- 17:31Don Armstrong: A Cadillac.
- 17:32Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 17:33Don Armstrong: Cadillac four-door sedan.
- 17:34Don Armstrong: A newer one.
- 17:35Don Armstrong: Not brand new, don't get me wrong.
- 17:37Jeff Dziekan: Get a nice pre-owned, uh, CT5, CT CT.
- 17:41Don Armstrong: Do they make a four anymore?
- 17:42Don Armstrong: Uh I don't know, but whatever.
- 17:44Don Armstrong: Get something that's, you know, within seven, eight years old, something 35,000, 50,000 miles.
- 17:51Don Armstrong: I think I'd kind of like that.
- 17:52Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 17:52Jeff Dziekan: Let me know.
- 17:53Jeff Dziekan: I can get you some V badges.
- 17:55Jeff Dziekan: I know you can get the V badges.
- 17:57Jeff Dziekan: I don't need that either.
- 17:58Jeff Dziekan: I can't I know a guy.
- 18:00Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, I know.
- 18:01Don Armstrong: It's funny because I, you know, horsepower is important, but not like the Corvette.
- 18:05Don Armstrong: I don't need that.
- 18:06SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 18:06Jeff Dziekan: You don't even have to have a VA, just get a nice uh six-cylinder in a Cadillac.
- 18:10Don Armstrong: Or a four-cylinder with a turtle.
- 18:11Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, you're not going to be a good one.
- 18:12Jeff Dziekan: And GM makes a good one, I will say that.
- 18:14Jeff Dziekan: They also make Buicks, so there you go.
- 18:16Jeff Dziekan: But they don't make a sedan anymore on that.
- 18:18Jeff Dziekan: Yeah.
- 18:20Jeff Dziekan: Barnes, what are your thoughts?
- 18:21Mike Marrs: Well, I'm thinking that uh Bobby popped back in.
- 18:24Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 18:25Mike Marrs: I saw that.
- 18:26Don Armstrong: And what does he have to say?
- 18:28Mike Marrs: I don't know.
- 18:28Mike Marrs: I have a clear.
- 18:30Jeff Dziekan: Well, why not?
- 18:31Jeff Dziekan: He went in and out.
- 18:34Jeff Dziekan: There he is.
- 18:35Don Armstrong: Bobby Sparkman, are you back with us again?
- 18:40Don Armstrong: No.
- 18:41Don Armstrong: You know what he did?
- 18:42Don Armstrong: He butt dialed us.

- 22:09Jeff Dziekan: Um it's hosted by the Cruisers.
- 22:11Jeff Dziekan: It's a Tex-Mex restaurant.
- 22:13Jeff Dziekan: The event takes place the first Saturday of every month from nine AM uh to uh eleven AM and it's in Victoria, Texas, eighty-nine oh one Navarro Street.
- 22:21Jeff Dziekan: Uh on the Well everything is on Navarro Street very much.
- 22:23Jeff Dziekan: It's a big old street.
- 22:25Jeff Dziekan: Uh then you got Gears and Grounds.
- 22:27Jeff Dziekan: It's this May 2nd also.
- 22:28Jeff Dziekan: It's a 13150 Brenton Ridge Street in Houston.
- 22:32Jeff Dziekan: Uh gathering is promised to be good stuff for classic cars, sports cars, exotic race cars, imports, so on and so on.
- 22:38Jeff Dziekan: Gears and grounds.
- 22:39Jeff Dziekan: Gears and grounds, yeah.
- 22:41Jeff Dziekan: Coffee grounds and grinding the gears.
- 22:43Jeff Dziekan: Uh so for more information, you can go to speedadvocates.com.
- 22:47Jeff Dziekan: And then you got one by George.
- 22:48Jeff Dziekan: I think George is going to be at this one.
- 22:49Jeff Dziekan: Temple Malton Motors, monthly cruise in at Bold, and that's Bold Republic Brewing Company in Temple, Texas at 7060 Stone Hollow Drive.
- 22:58Jeff Dziekan: That goes from 11 to 2.
- 23:00Jeff Dziekan: George is a big drinker.
- 23:01Jeff Dziekan: No, but he can go out there and enjoy the cars.
- 23:04Jeff Dziekan: Uh the event occurs the first Saturday, like we said.
- 23:06Jeff Dziekan: Uh winter hours are different, but we're not in the winter.
- 23:08Jeff Dziekan: It's summertime.
- 23:09Jeff Dziekan: Look out the window.
- 23:10Jeff Dziekan: Uh, including cars, trucks, and motorcycles, uh, enjoy craft, uh craft brews, food, music, and good company.
- 23:17Jeff Dziekan: And then here's one that I kind of feel left out.
- 23:20Jeff Dziekan: Uh, Ford versus Chevy.
- 23:22Jeff Dziekan: This is uh in May 3rd, so it's next Saturday.
- 23:25Jeff Dziekan: The events open to both cars and trucks.
- 23:27Jeff Dziekan: Registration of$25 per vehicle.
- 23:29Jeff Dziekan: It's at 13150 Brenton Ridge Street in Houston.

- 23:41Jeff Dziekan: Where is it?
- 23:41Jeff Dziekan: It is at Brenton Street in Houston.
- 23:45Don Armstrong: Okay.
- 23:45Jeff Dziekan: Uh I feel left out because there's no Buick in the title, so that's okay.
- 23:49Jeff Dziekan: Or Cadillac.
- 23:50Jeff Dziekan: And then you got one, Mike.
- 23:51Jeff Dziekan: This one's for you, buddy.
- 23:52Jeff Dziekan: Uh Mauriceville Cruisins, May 3rd.
- 23:54Jeff Dziekan: It's in Orange, Texas, at 11261, Texas 12.
- 23:57Jeff Dziekan: How far is Orange from you, Mike?
- 23:59Mike Marrs: Uh about 15 miles.
- 24:01Jeff Dziekan: This event occurs first Sunday of the month.
- 24:03Jeff Dziekan: Uh participants are encouraged to bring their classic cars, hot rods, rat rods, resto mod, muscle cars, or custom cruisers.
- 24:10Jeff Dziekan: Which one's Orange.
- 24:12Jeff Dziekan: It's Orange, Orange, Texas.
- 24:13Jeff Dziekan: That's right.
- 24:14Jeff Dziekan: It's a typos, Orange, Texas.
- 24:16Jeff Dziekan: So go out there.
- 24:17Jeff Dziekan: You know, there's plenty around.
- 24:19Jeff Dziekan: You know who's from Orange?
- 24:20Jeff Dziekan: Uh uh the guy on the radio thing.
- 24:22Jeff Dziekan: No, Sheila May.
- 24:24Jeff Dziekan: Sheila May's from Orange.
- 24:25Jeff Dziekan: I didn't know that.
- 24:26Mike Marrs: She's from Orange Field, I thought.
- 24:28Jeff Dziekan: I I don't know about Orange Fields.
- 24:30Jeff Dziekan: Oh, the strawberry fields.
- 24:32Mike Marrs: Uh well, that's next door to Orange Fields.
- 24:34Mike Marrs: Okay.
- 24:34Mike Marrs: Which is next door to the field.
- 24:35Jeff Dziekan: But there's a lot going on.
- 24:36Jeff Dziekan: All you gotta do is just you could Google anything about car cruises or whatever the case, and they'll pop up.
- 24:41Jeff Dziekan: There's plenty to do out there every weekend, even on Thursdays and Fridays and stuff like that.
- 24:45Don Armstrong: Dealership service departments are losing customers to Quick Lube shops, and pricing strategy is largely to blame, according to new data from global research and consulting from Ducker Carlisle.
- 24:58Don Armstrong: What's your name?
- 24:58Don Armstrong: Ducker.
- 24:59Don Armstrong: I'm Ducker.
- 25:00Don Armstrong: I'm Ducker Don.
- 25:03Don Armstrong: Uh, Quicklubes are what everybody should be worried about, according to Nate Chinenko, a principal and leader of global benchmarking.
- 25:10Don Armstrong: I think all these titles.
- 25:12Don Armstrong: Dealerships made less money in 2025 than in 2024, and QuickLubes made more.
- 25:18Don Armstrong: Driving factor, sending more customers to Quick Lube Shops is price, he said.
- 25:23Don Armstrong: Independent repair facilities, quick lube shops, and tire chains, not the chains that you put on the tires, but people that sell tires, yeah.
- 25:32Don Armstrong: All gain market share from January of 25 to January 26, primarily at the expense of dealerships, according to Ducker Carlisle.
- 25:41Don Armstrong: Data doesn't distinguish between types of jobs and quick lube shops are doing.
- 25:48Don Armstrong: The regardless of the data, the data shows quick lube shops are getting a higher percentage of service dollars than they were in the past, while dealerships are getting less.
- 25:56Don Armstrong: Only way quick lube shops can grow is to take market share from someone else.
- 26:00Don Armstrong: Uh since the average driver gets two oil changes a year, and given growing number of electric vehicles, it's particularly striking that uh quick lubes are getting more business.
- 26:11Don Armstrong: Quick lube shops' growing share of oil changes should alarm dealerships because a high percentage of new vehicles have maintenance paid for by the manufacturer for some period of time.
- 26:22Don Armstrong: Almost every vehicle zero to two years of age has free maintenance paid for by the OEM.
- 26:29Don Armstrong: Uh, even when a dealership is giving away free maintenance for two years, you still seem to have be having a hard time retaining those companies, according to that person.
- 26:40Don Armstrong: So keep that in mind.
- 26:41Jeff Dziekan: Time also that Ford was notorious for this.
- 26:45Jeff Dziekan: Actually, Ford started the quick lanes.
- 26:46Jeff Dziekan: Remember the fat the fast lanes?
- 26:47Jeff Dziekan: The fix yeah, quick lanes is what they called them.
- 26:49Jeff Dziekan: They actually took old dealerships and remodeled them and reconverted them.
- 26:52Jeff Dziekan: But to that point, yes, you're getting a little bit better buy, a little bit better deal, but you're quicker.
- 26:56Jeff Dziekan: It's called quick lane, you're in and out, so you get more volume on the people coming in.
- 27:01Jeff Dziekan: You may have a lesser hourly rate, not the eleven hundred dollars like uh Bugatti, but the standard rate is a little less, and they don't make a lot on oil changes.
- 27:10Jeff Dziekan: They they make very, very little on oil changes.
- 27:12Jeff Dziekan: So there you go.
- 27:13Don Armstrong: Thank you.
- 27:13Don Armstrong: All right, time now for a quick break.
