- 0:07Speaker 1: The Season with Peter Scheger is a production of the
- 0:09Speaker 1: NFL in partnership with iHeartRadio.
- 0:22Speaker 2: What's Up, Everybody, Welcome to the Season with Peter Schrager.
- 0:25Speaker 1: We are going into the final week of the season,
- 0:27Speaker 1: Week eighteen, but we are also heading towards the start
- 0:31Speaker 1: of the coaching hiring process that starts right.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Away next week.
- 0:36Speaker 1: And I wanted to spend today's podcast hitting on a
- 0:39Speaker 1: lot of those different teams, a lot of these different candidates,
- 0:42Speaker 1: and I've gone through the rolodexo I wanted to have on.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Originally I was going to have on a coaching agent
- 0:47Speaker 1: to take you through what these next few weeks are like,
- 0:51Speaker 1: and I was like, that's a little bit I don't know,
- 0:53Speaker 1: it's instructive, but it can also be biased towards that
- 0:56Speaker 1: guy's clients. And I don't know how often do we
- 0:58Speaker 1: want to hear from agents telling us about how hard
- 1:01Speaker 1: their jobs are.
- 1:02Speaker 2: I kind of crossed that one off the list.
- 1:04Speaker 1: Then I was going to go through one of the
- 1:06Speaker 1: potential candidates for a head coaching or GM job, and
- 1:09Speaker 1: I was like, well, that's pretty narrowly focused, and I
- 1:11Speaker 1: don't want to use this platform in this time period
- 1:14Speaker 1: as an opportunity to showcase oneself or give one guy
- 1:18Speaker 1: any edge over the other, just in case some NFL
- 1:20Speaker 1: teams are listening. Then I decided to just focus on
- 1:24Speaker 1: a team, and the team I wanted to focus on
- 1:27Speaker 1: as a team that has DJ Reid, a free agent
- 1:30Speaker 1: coming out and saying he's looking forward to being a
- 1:33Speaker 1: free agent after signing a massive deal with the Jets
- 1:35Speaker 1: a couple of years ago, a team that had Garrett Wilson,
- 1:37Speaker 1: the wide receiver that won Offensive Rookie of the Year
- 1:40Speaker 1: just two seasons ago. Was Zach Wilson thrown in the
- 1:43Speaker 1: ball longing for how much he missed his old offensive
- 1:46Speaker 1: coordinator Mike Lafleur after they got blown out by the
- 1:49Speaker 1: Rams two weeks ago at a home game, and Sauce
- 1:53Speaker 1: Gardner sending a Instagram post to T Higgins saying that
- 1:57Speaker 1: he shouldn't be going to the Jets, the team that
- 2:00Speaker 1: is in complete, complete shock right now if you are
- 2:04Speaker 1: a fan.
- 2:04Speaker 2: So I wanted to have on as our Yes.
- 2:07Speaker 1: One of the top Jets bloggers slash voices, he's also
- 2:14Speaker 1: in our business. His name is Joe Caparo, so he
- 2:16Speaker 1: runs the bad Lands podcast, which is probably the number
- 2:19Speaker 1: one Jets fan podcast. I thought Joe would be a
- 2:23Speaker 1: good person to speak with, and then as a second guest.
- 2:26Speaker 3: I wanted to bring out a friend of mine, a
- 2:29Speaker 3: guy who I talked to all the time, and it's
- 2:32Speaker 3: a voice of a person who just gave up his
- 2:34Speaker 3: season tickets with the Jets that he's had his entire
- 2:36Speaker 3: life and said he's finally out.
- 2:38Speaker 1: And his name is Danny, And Danny's the one who's
- 2:41Speaker 1: always tailgating and lot e with the Kebab guys, and
- 2:44Speaker 1: I wanted to bring him on.
- 2:45Speaker 2: So we're gonna talk Jets. We're gonna go through all.
- 2:47Speaker 1: The Jets stuff in a second, but before we do Jets,
- 2:51Speaker 1: I wanted to do a little bit on some of
- 2:54Speaker 1: the other teams too, and then an opening monologue of
- 2:56Speaker 1: just kind of emptying the bag quite a bit.
- 3:00Speaker 2: First, the Bears.
- 3:01Speaker 1: If you think Jets fans are in disarray, go talk
- 3:03Speaker 1: to a Bears fan. This week, Bears have not on
- 3:06Speaker 1: a game since before Thanksgiving. We know that the Bears
- 3:10Speaker 1: aren't an utter tailspin. To end this season with a
- 3:14Speaker 1: first overall pick who seems to be just getting the
- 3:17Speaker 1: snot kicked out of him, sacked a record amount of
- 3:20Speaker 1: times for a rookie quarterback and just in one of
- 3:23Speaker 1: those deals where you feel like you're gonna have to
- 3:25Speaker 1: build him up again before we could even see him flourish.
- 3:28Speaker 1: The Bears process, from what I'm being told, is going
- 3:32Speaker 1: to be run by GM Ryan Poles. Now, a lot
- 3:34Speaker 1: of Bears fans want Ryan Poles out of a job.
- 3:37Speaker 1: From what I'm told, barring any crazy, crazy news in
- 3:41Speaker 1: the next four days, Ryan Poles has a job.
- 3:44Speaker 2: That's said.
- 3:47Speaker 1: When the Bears fired their previous head coach, Matt Naggy,
- 3:53Speaker 1: I was on Good Morning Football at around eight am,
- 3:56Speaker 1: and I said, I think Ryan Pace is safe the
- 3:59Speaker 1: GM because he had years left on his contract. And
- 4:02Speaker 1: although Pace's big hire was Matt Naggy, I thought Ryan
- 4:05Speaker 1: Pace was going to have an opportunity to hire it
- 4:08Speaker 1: and to show you how tight lip the mccaskeys are.
- 4:10Speaker 1: I talked to everyone in that Bears building. I thought
- 4:12Speaker 1: I had a real grip on it. About twenty minutes later,
- 4:15Speaker 1: news came out that Ryan Pace was being let go
- 4:17Speaker 1: and he was just told and it was shocking for
- 4:20Speaker 1: some And I can tell you there are people in
- 4:21Speaker 1: the building who did not see that coming.
- 4:23Speaker 2: So I would just say this.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Anyone who's telling you that they know for sure that
- 4:28Speaker 1: Poles is going to be the one running this search,
- 4:30Speaker 1: just let's get through Monday, because I saw this happen
- 4:33Speaker 1: the last time they did it.
- 4:35Speaker 2: Ryan Poles all cards on the table.
- 4:38Speaker 1: I have a relationship with from his days in Kansas City.
- 4:42Speaker 1: He's been a podcast guest here, He's been a podcast
- 4:45Speaker 1: guest on My Bears Hard Knocks podcast that I do
- 4:48Speaker 1: with NFL films around the Bears Hard Knocks season. And
- 4:53Speaker 1: I could tell you that Poles and the Bears they
- 4:57Speaker 1: want to get this thing right obviously, but there are
- 4:59Speaker 1: other people involved.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Kevin Warren is the team president.
- 5:02Speaker 1: And he is new, relatively new, and one of the
- 5:04Speaker 1: major things will be breaking ground on new stadium where
- 5:07Speaker 1: that ends up being. And Warren came from the Vikings
- 5:11Speaker 1: but also the Big Ten where he played a major
- 5:13Speaker 1: role there as Big Ten commissioner for many years. So
- 5:16Speaker 1: you're looking to Warren, you're looking to Poles, and then
- 5:19Speaker 1: you're looking to an ownership group and George McCaskey kind
- 5:22Speaker 1: of be in the face of that and all things.
- 5:25Speaker 1: I'm told Ben Johnson seems to be the guy. If
- 5:29Speaker 1: Ben Johnson wants to go there, and then Ben Johnson
- 5:32Speaker 1: would be matched with Caleb Williams, and then you could say, well,
- 5:35Speaker 1: we got the best offensive coordinator, a guy who's terrorized
- 5:38Speaker 1: us the last few years, and we put them with
- 5:40Speaker 1: our first overall pick, and away we go. If it's
- 5:43Speaker 1: not as clean as that, I would expect them to
- 5:45Speaker 1: also try to get in the Verbel sleepsticks. I don't
- 5:48Speaker 1: know if there's a relationship there between Vrabel and Poles,
- 5:52Speaker 1: but we do know that Rabel's going to be a
- 5:54Speaker 1: hot name. Another name I would watch, and although he
- 5:57Speaker 1: is a defensive coach, Brian Flores is the name I
- 6:00Speaker 1: would watch, and for that I would just say he
- 6:02Speaker 1: might get an interview and then could see what he
- 6:04Speaker 1: could do. Well, Why Brian Flores? They just fired a
- 6:06Speaker 1: defensive head coach. Why would you go Flores? Flores, also
- 6:09Speaker 1: having an outstanding season as a defensive coordinator for the Vikings,
- 6:13Speaker 1: also has connections as a former NFL head coach, knows
- 6:17Speaker 1: people all over the league. Ryan Poles and Brian Flores
- 6:21Speaker 1: were college teammates at Boston College. Something to watch. Those
- 6:26Speaker 1: guys know each other. I don't know how Bears fans
- 6:28Speaker 1: would would take the news of another defensive head coach
- 6:31Speaker 1: being hired, but I would say circle that name as
- 6:33Speaker 1: a possibility of at least getting an interview during the process.
- 6:38Speaker 2: All Right, that's Chicago. They're a mess.
- 6:42Speaker 1: They're a mess in that we don't know where they're
- 6:44Speaker 1: going to go. And if they do swing the bat
- 6:46Speaker 1: and miss on Ben Johnson, well then I think it
- 6:51Speaker 1: could get really interesting what happens there. The other team
- 6:55Speaker 1: that everyone's asking about is the Raiders. Now, the Raiders
- 6:58Speaker 1: have had two straight wins by Antonio Pierce. He is
- 7:01Speaker 1: well liked in the building. But I don't know if
- 7:03Speaker 1: Antonio Pierce is getting another year based on how this
- 7:05Speaker 1: season is gone. I would say with new ownership coming
- 7:09Speaker 1: in and the new ownership not being Mark Davis but
- 7:12Speaker 1: Tom Brady and Richard Seymour Patriots guys who oh, by
- 7:15Speaker 1: the way, we're teammates with Mike Vrabel. That would seem
- 7:19Speaker 1: to be a very good connection there. Rabel to the
- 7:22Speaker 1: Raiders if that job opens up. Something to watch. The
- 7:28Speaker 1: other team, the Saints. I gotta tell you, I was
- 7:32Speaker 1: blown away by Tom Pelisero on Good Morning Football Tuesday.
- 7:35Speaker 2: He and I did a segment where we empty the
- 7:36Speaker 2: notebook We like to surprise each other a little bit.
- 7:38Speaker 1: We like to not give away the goods before we
- 7:41Speaker 1: get on TV. Tom Pelisaro comes on there and we're
- 7:43Speaker 1: doing the Ben Johnson and Rabel and Flores. We're talking
- 7:46Speaker 1: about those names, you know. Liam Cohen comes up and
- 7:49Speaker 1: Cliff Kingsbury comes up and it's the name, and I said,
- 7:51Speaker 1: give me a surprise name.
- 7:53Speaker 2: And he went with John Gruden.
- 7:56Speaker 1: And then he dropped a little nugget that the Saints
- 7:58Speaker 1: had long talks with John Gruden about being the offensive
- 8:00Speaker 1: coordinator under Dennis Allen this year, and Gruden ultimately did
- 8:02Speaker 1: not take the job, and Gruden ended up going the
- 8:05Speaker 1: Barstools Sport where he is a content creator like me
- 8:09Speaker 1: and like Aaron and like so many others who are
- 8:11Speaker 1: in the podcast game, John Gruden is currently spending his
- 8:15Speaker 1: sundays with Big Cat and Mincy and Stephen Chay and.
- 8:19Speaker 2: A lot of those barstool guys.
- 8:21Speaker 1: And I'll tell you what, I think it's really helped
- 8:23Speaker 1: him in his public facing.
- 8:26Speaker 2: Branding, if you will, and that he's got these great stories.
- 8:28Speaker 1: He's breaking down the games, he's being critical, he's talking
- 8:31Speaker 1: about time management. It's almost like here you have a
- 8:34Speaker 1: look inside of Gruden unfiltered. Here's what he can do now. Oh,
- 8:37Speaker 1: the elephant in the room.
- 8:40Speaker 2: He had these.
- 8:40Speaker 1: Horrible emails that were out there in twenty twenty one,
- 8:43Speaker 1: and he had to resign from the Raiders because of it.
- 8:45Speaker 1: And he's got a legal situation pending with the league,
- 8:48Speaker 1: and there were some horrible emails that were out there
- 8:50Speaker 1: with his name, and he's not denying that he was
- 8:52Speaker 1: the one who was attached to him. Are we in
- 8:55Speaker 1: a place for forgiveness? Are we in a place where
- 8:57Speaker 1: their teams can move on? We'll see if John Gruden
- 9:00Speaker 1: gets interviews. But if I'm looking at Mickey Loomis, who
- 9:04Speaker 1: is already.
- 9:05Speaker 2: Friendly with Gruden.
- 9:05Speaker 1: They have a connection through Sean Payton, where Sean Payton
- 9:08Speaker 1: and Gruden were on the same staff in Philadelphia many
- 9:12Speaker 1: many years back. I would be interested to see if
- 9:15Speaker 1: Mickey Loomis gives John Gruden an opportunity to be the
- 9:18Speaker 1: head coach.
- 9:18Speaker 2: Of the New Orleans Saints. That's a name to watch.
- 9:20Speaker 1: The other teams, the Jaguars, they're likely moving on from
- 9:24Speaker 1: Doug Peterson.
- 9:25Speaker 2: I very intrigued.
- 9:27Speaker 1: Because I think that's a good job. I still do
- 9:29Speaker 1: the cons they do not meddle.
- 9:31Speaker 2: They do not get in and say I need this player,
- 9:34Speaker 2: I want to do this.
- 9:34Speaker 1: They are actually an ownership group that is kind of
- 9:37Speaker 1: hands free we off which is why I thought Belichick
- 9:40Speaker 1: taking that UNC job before at least entertaining the Jacksonville
- 9:43Speaker 1: job was so interesting because I thought that might have
- 9:46Speaker 1: been the place where he can come in and have
- 9:47Speaker 1: the freedom to do what he wants. The Jacksonville job
- 9:50Speaker 1: is attractive because of the freedom and the low pressure
- 9:53Speaker 1: stakes that comes with it.
- 9:55Speaker 2: You're not in Chicago, you're not in New York. You're
- 9:57Speaker 2: not dealing with the.
- 9:58Speaker 1: Mccaskeys and their budget and running things by in their
- 10:02Speaker 1: buttoned up way.
- 10:02Speaker 2: You're not dealing with Woody Johnson and Jacksonville.
- 10:05Speaker 1: You're dealing with two guys, Shot and Tony Kahan father Son,
- 10:09Speaker 1: who spend money, want to win, and in a market
- 10:12Speaker 1: Jacksonville that isn't exactly a pressure cooker when it comes
- 10:15Speaker 1: to media or expectations or this burning desire that if
- 10:20Speaker 1: you don't win in one year you have to go.
- 10:22Speaker 1: Don't get me wrong, Jacksonville is great fans. They do
- 10:24Speaker 1: have great media members dedicated to that team. You just
- 10:27Speaker 1: can't compare it as far as media markets to New
- 10:29Speaker 1: York and Chicago. And if you're a coach who doesn't
- 10:32Speaker 1: want to deal with all that and might shy away
- 10:34Speaker 1: from all that and have freedom, Jacksonville could be a
- 10:37Speaker 1: really attractive option. And then there's the Jets. Oh, the Jets.
- 10:43Speaker 1: We're going to get to them in a second. Is
- 10:46Speaker 1: there another coach that's going to be fired on Monday?
- 10:51Speaker 1: If you look at it and you start looking at
- 10:53Speaker 1: the teams Dallas, it sounded like Mike McCarthy was good
- 10:57Speaker 1: to go and was going to be just fine in
- 10:59Speaker 1: that job. And yet he hasn't been resigned, he hasn't
- 11:02Speaker 1: been extended. In the second the season ends, Mike McCarthy's
- 11:06Speaker 1: a free Mike McCarthy could take his bag and he
- 11:10Speaker 1: could say, I'm gonna go on a little tour here
- 11:12Speaker 1: and I'm gonna interview with New Orleans where I used
- 11:15Speaker 1: to work many years ago. Or I'm gonna go talk
- 11:17Speaker 1: to the Jets because I'm a leader of men. Or
- 11:19Speaker 1: I'm gonna go talk to Chicago because I've been great
- 11:21Speaker 1: with quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers and Dak Prescott and I can
- 11:23Speaker 1: get the most out of Kayleb Williams. The Mike McCarthy
- 11:26Speaker 1: Dallas thing is interesting because everyone just assume McCarthy would
- 11:29Speaker 1: be fired because he's not. It doesn't have many years
- 11:31Speaker 1: left on his contract, But oh my gosh, does Mike
- 11:34Speaker 1: McCarthy have leverage here? Does Mike McCarthy have leverage and
- 11:37Speaker 1: that he might not necessarily sign right away with the
- 11:40Speaker 1: Cowboys because I might go entertain other teams offers. Is
- 11:44Speaker 1: he a hot candidate when about three weeks ago we
- 11:46Speaker 1: were like he's gonna be fired and will never coach again.
- 11:49Speaker 1: The Mike McCarthy thing is really interesting. So you got
- 11:52Speaker 1: all these teams and then you look at the other
- 11:54Speaker 1: team in New York. Is Brian Dables safe. I don't
- 11:56Speaker 1: think that win saved his job by any means, but
- 11:58Speaker 1: I think Brian Dabele might get another opportunity to do
- 12:02Speaker 1: this with his buddy Joe Shane. They've got a great
- 12:04Speaker 1: relationship going back to Buffalo, and if they're not cleaning
- 12:06Speaker 1: and they bring out one of the guys back, maybe they.
- 12:08Speaker 2: Bring back both.
- 12:09Speaker 1: I have been steadfast and saying up until this point,
- 12:12Speaker 1: like I'm not saying Table's getting fired despite everyone online
- 12:16Speaker 1: just assuming he would be so at the end of
- 12:19Speaker 1: the day, I think that there might be a surprise
- 12:21Speaker 1: or too around the league. I mentioned Jacksonville, I mentioned Vegas.
- 12:25Speaker 1: I don't think there's gonna be any other firings that
- 12:28Speaker 1: are gonna I don't think Brian Callahan's one and done.
- 12:30Speaker 1: I don't think Zach Taylor's out. I don't think that
- 12:33Speaker 1: you're gonna see massive changes in the NFC East other
- 12:37Speaker 1: than what I just mentioned with Dallas and the Giants.
- 12:39Speaker 1: I don't think Sirianni's gone, and I certainly don't think
- 12:42Speaker 1: Dan Quinn has to worry.
- 12:43Speaker 2: So those are kind of the areas. And yet every
- 12:46Speaker 2: year there's a surprise.
- 12:48Speaker 4: Every year.
- 12:48Speaker 1: I mean, I remember when Marvin Lewis was finally fired
- 12:51Speaker 1: on our show and I was gobsmacked. I remember when
- 12:54Speaker 1: they got rid of Brian Flores in Miami and that
- 12:56Speaker 1: wasn't expected, and then we learned that there was great
- 12:58Speaker 1: dysfunction in that situation.
- 13:00Speaker 2: Every year there is a surprise.
- 13:02Speaker 1: So be ready on Monday, because every year, just when
- 13:05Speaker 1: you think things are old, they aren't give me some
- 13:08Speaker 1: classic ones. How about Doug Moron, all but thinking he
- 13:11Speaker 1: had the Jets job, and then a daily news article
- 13:14Speaker 1: comes out on New Year's Eve, and ironically I remember it,
- 13:17Speaker 1: and suddenly there was a look back at Doug Maroon,
- 13:19Speaker 1: and Doug Maroon did not have the Jets job and
- 13:22Speaker 1: had already opted out of the Bills job, and then
- 13:24Speaker 1: was left kind.
- 13:25Speaker 2: Of rudderless for a year trying to find.
- 13:26Speaker 1: His way back until he ultimately got the Jacksonville job.
- 13:29Speaker 1: These things happen, Weird things happen in those final hours
- 13:32Speaker 1: leading up to Week eighteen come into a close. So
- 13:35Speaker 1: I would just say, be ready for anything, be ready
- 13:38Speaker 1: for any names. But the one that I think is
- 13:40Speaker 1: so interesting is the Jets because I don't think it
- 13:43Speaker 1: is necessarily viewed ass a horrible situation, and yet I
- 13:47Speaker 1: do think there are real challenges. And in the last
- 13:49Speaker 1: few days these players speaking out like they have DJ Reid,
- 13:53Speaker 1: Garrett Wilson and in Sauce Gardner online like that doesn't
- 13:57Speaker 1: bode well if you're an aspiring coach or an interested
- 14:01Speaker 1: GM like, okay, what is going on there? And Aaron
- 14:03Speaker 1: Rodgers openly saying there's a leaking problem that's real and
- 14:07Speaker 1: that makes it a hurdle that you have to get over. Okay,
- 14:11Speaker 1: So with all that said, enjoy Week eighteen. I'm gonna
- 14:14Speaker 1: bring on our guests right now. We're gonna talk Jets.
- 14:17Speaker 1: We're going to do a deep dive, and it's Joe
- 14:19Speaker 1: Caparoso from the bad Lands podcast, who has a great
- 14:22Speaker 1: voice as far as Jets fans feeling the pulse of
- 14:25Speaker 1: the team and obviously it does great work in content creation.
- 14:29Speaker 1: And then my buddy Danny, who is a now former
- 14:32Speaker 1: season ticket holder who gave up pissison tickets this year
- 14:34Speaker 1: when the email came through. He told the Jets to
- 14:37Speaker 1: take their jobs and shove it. He's out, still a
- 14:40Speaker 1: Jets fan, but he doesn't want to spend the money
- 14:42Speaker 1: on season tickets anymore with the product he's getting. I
- 14:44Speaker 1: thought that was a good person to bring on. I'm
- 14:46Speaker 1: sure he'll be rational. Both those guys are coming up
- 14:48Speaker 1: after this. All right, with no further ado, let's do
- 15:00Speaker 1: a Jets deep dive.
- 15:01Speaker 2: Here. My role in this conversation insider. I've got some info,
- 15:06Speaker 2: but I've also am an open mind.
- 15:07Speaker 1: I want to hear what content creators are thinking, what
- 15:11Speaker 1: fans are thinking, and where the Jets are as far
- 15:13Speaker 1: as a fan base, going into what I think is
- 15:16Speaker 1: the most important coaching and GM search in.
- 15:19Speaker 2: The franchise's history. I think it's hit. It's in the
- 15:20Speaker 2: deer right now.
- 15:21Speaker 1: I think it's a it's all time low. I mentioned
- 15:24Speaker 1: it in the monologue. I think when you've got DJ
- 15:26Speaker 1: Reid saying he wants to be a free agent in
- 15:28Speaker 1: the locker room, and Garrett Wilson openly longing for Mike
- 15:31Speaker 1: Lafleur like he's Bill Walsh or Dick Vermeial or something like,
- 15:36Speaker 1: I think that's a bad sign. And then Rogers clowning
- 15:39Speaker 1: on the fact that the owner's son might be the
- 15:41Speaker 1: one to tell him he's he's hitting the bricks. It's
- 15:43Speaker 1: in an all time low. It's embarrassing, and I wanted
- 15:45Speaker 1: to bring on some Jets fins. It's some guys who
- 15:48Speaker 1: do it for a podcast on so let's first introduce
- 15:52Speaker 1: them first. It's a guy whose podcasts I've been on
- 15:54Speaker 1: several times, who I think is the best in the
- 15:56Speaker 1: game as far as Jets focused, Jets specific podcast content creation.
- 16:02Speaker 1: He's the host With'connor Rodgers over at at the bad
- 16:06Speaker 1: Lands podcast Joe Caparoso, Joe, what's up, buddy?
- 16:09Speaker 4: Thank you for having me. It's been a very fun
- 16:11Speaker 4: year and I wouldn't want to end twenty twenty four
- 16:13Speaker 4: in any other way than talking about our love New
- 16:16Speaker 4: York Jets and what comes next for another rebuild.
- 16:18Speaker 1: Yes, and it's time to spend it forward, my friend.
- 16:21Speaker 1: And with that, I'm talking with someone who's literally live
- 16:24Speaker 1: from Hawaii on a family vacation on his phone. It's
- 16:28Speaker 1: one of my buddies, Danny, who used to tailgate and
- 16:32Speaker 1: lot e. Let's call him Danny from Lottie because I
- 16:34Speaker 1: don't know professionally. He wants his last name out there
- 16:36Speaker 1: after he eviscerates the Jets the way he's about to,
- 16:39Speaker 1: but he gave up his season tickets.
- 16:40Speaker 2: He's done. Danny, Hello from Hawaii.
- 16:43Speaker 1: I don't even what time is it right now as
- 16:44Speaker 1: you're recording this, we're one o'clock eastern.
- 16:46Speaker 2: What time is it there in Hawaii?
- 16:48Speaker 5: It's eight am out here. I've been here for about
- 16:52Speaker 5: nine days now. Still don't think I've adjusted to Hawaii time. So,
- 16:56Speaker 5: you know, happy to be on nice and early here.
- 16:58Speaker 5: Thanks for having me. You know, started out getting some
- 17:02Speaker 5: shout outs on GMFB. You know, Danny from Tribeca, Danny
- 17:06Speaker 5: from Lottie, you know where the we had the kebab guy.
- 17:09Speaker 5: We're all fired up for our Super Bowl run and
- 17:12Speaker 5: now here we are. You know, regular seasons not even over,
- 17:16Speaker 5: and we're talking about another regime change. So happy to
- 17:19Speaker 5: end the year on that note. And thanks for having.
- 17:21Speaker 1: Me on first of all, subtle Flex Hawaii and then
- 17:24Speaker 1: even more subtle Flex a nine day Hawaii trip.
- 17:28Speaker 2: Joe. As we're doing.
- 17:30Speaker 1: This, we're in our home offices with sick kids and
- 17:32Speaker 1: people coughing all over us. But you know what, we're
- 17:34Speaker 1: all in the same place. We all want to see
- 17:36Speaker 1: the Jets get better. We all want to see the
- 17:38Speaker 1: Jets turn the page. Joe set the table for us
- 17:41Speaker 1: as we head into the final week. Where are you
- 17:44Speaker 1: at right now as far as your preferences for coach
- 17:48Speaker 1: and GM and where you'd like to see this organization go.
- 17:51Speaker 4: I am counting the seconds until this season is over
- 17:54Speaker 4: as I am exhausted of watching this AAU team, which
- 17:57Speaker 4: is basically what they remind me of at this point,
- 17:59Speaker 4: especially with Bret effort level the past couple weeks. I
- 18:04Speaker 4: perfect world, I think the top head coach to get
- 18:06Speaker 4: would be Mike Vrabel. I think a lot of Jet
- 18:08Speaker 4: fans feel that way. I think there's a lot of
- 18:10Speaker 4: hesitance to have a first time head coach because we've
- 18:14Speaker 4: tried that a lot and it has not worked. Vrabel
- 18:17Speaker 4: not perfect, but to an AFC Championship game with Ryan Tannehill,
- 18:21Speaker 4: We'll bring some accountability, little toughness to a team that
- 18:24Speaker 4: I think needs it coming out of this year on
- 18:26Speaker 4: what has been candidly a very unlikable Soft Jets team
- 18:30Speaker 4: that feels like they need someone with Rabel's personality to
- 18:33Speaker 4: a t GM.
- 18:34Speaker 6: I think it's a little more wide open.
- 18:36Speaker 4: This is probably unrealistic, but I would love to see
- 18:38Speaker 4: them hire a guy like Demetrov to do analytics and scouting,
- 18:42Speaker 4: rebuild that part of the organization because the Jets are
- 18:44Speaker 4: effectively a shell company they are right now and they
- 18:46Speaker 4: need to build it from scratch and then go hire
- 18:49Speaker 4: a guy like Greenberg from Tampa, who you created a good,
- 18:51Speaker 4: good amount of buzz with when we talked a few
- 18:53Speaker 4: weeks ago, to clean up the books and clean up
- 18:55Speaker 4: the void years and clean up the last Dance Jets,
- 18:59Speaker 4: the Rogers, the Lazare and the Devonte Adams. Have those
- 19:03Speaker 4: three come in together and start turn the pay to
- 19:06Speaker 4: just put a nice church and state wall between the
- 19:09Speaker 4: business part of the Jets and the football part.
- 19:12Speaker 6: Of the Jets.
- 19:12Speaker 1: Okay, you distinction here, Joe. I don't think Greenberg's leave
- 19:16Speaker 1: in if he's not the GM. Who is the GM
- 19:18Speaker 1: in that scenario? Is it Demetrov or is it Greenberg?
- 19:21Speaker 6: It's Greenberg.
- 19:21Speaker 4: I think Demetrov is your VP of football operations and
- 19:25Speaker 4: they are separate roles. Now again, pie the sky to
- 19:27Speaker 4: get both them. Dimitrov might just want to be a GM.
- 19:29Speaker 4: Greenberg of course is going to want to be a GM.
- 19:31Speaker 4: But couldn't you get both of those skill sets together.
- 19:34Speaker 4: This is me as a Jet fan who just wants
- 19:36Speaker 4: to see the full robust front office. And again we're
- 19:39Speaker 4: talking about guys who I think are going to be
- 19:42Speaker 4: top of the line candidates. But for the Jets benefit,
- 19:44Speaker 4: how many GM openings are they're really going to be?
- 19:46Speaker 4: And what I like about the Jets opening is that,
- 19:49Speaker 4: unlike a Jacksonville Chicago, you're not forcing a head coach
- 19:52Speaker 4: onto a GM. It's sort of your starting day one together.
- 19:55Speaker 4: So I do hope, and again this is wishful thinking
- 19:58Speaker 4: Jets that that helps them in their recruiting search. So
- 20:01Speaker 4: that would be my best case scenario. Look, I hope
- 20:03Speaker 4: they taught to Agnew. I hope they talked to Borgonzi.
- 20:05Speaker 4: I hope they cast a wide net. I can't sound
- 20:07Speaker 4: particularly excited that they talked to Ron Rivera, but I
- 20:09Speaker 4: get it. They're doing the diligence. So that That's where
- 20:11Speaker 4: I'm at right now. I'm really rooting for Rabel. If not,
- 20:14Speaker 4: I think Liam Cohen would get a lot of Jet
- 20:16Speaker 4: fans really excited. They want the young offensive mine first
- 20:19Speaker 4: time head coach though, So that's the concern there.
- 20:21Speaker 2: Danny, what do you say?
- 20:23Speaker 7: I think you've hit it on the head.
- 20:24Speaker 5: Peter. You know, the last time the Jets were in
- 20:27Speaker 5: a spot like this was you know, I think when
- 20:29Speaker 5: we were one in fifteen other co type and what
- 20:32Speaker 5: Leon has to He said, you know, I've had enough.
- 20:35Speaker 5: I got to I got to bring in somebody that
- 20:38Speaker 5: can change this whole organization around. He went out, he
- 20:41Speaker 5: got the tuna, he let him pick the groceries. Right now,
- 20:45Speaker 5: I'm not saying there's another candidate out there like him.
- 20:48Speaker 5: I think last year there was in Jim Harbaugh. And
- 20:50Speaker 5: look what Jim's done with the Chargers very quickly. But
- 20:54Speaker 5: I agree with Joe and probably the most similar type
- 20:58Speaker 5: guy to that type of a CEO coach who can
- 21:00Speaker 5: come in and really put his stamp on the organization
- 21:03Speaker 5: quickly is Rabel. And I think they also have to
- 21:06Speaker 5: oh and really turn over every stone around the league
- 21:09Speaker 5: and see who could be available via trade as well.
- 21:12Speaker 7: And I don't know who that guy is.
- 21:14Speaker 6: You don't know who's.
- 21:15Speaker 7: Unhappy, you know, with a current GM or ownership.
- 21:18Speaker 5: But to me, the most obvious choice is probably Vrable,
- 21:22Speaker 5: but there's gonna be a lot of competition for him.
- 21:24Speaker 7: It seems like he's the top of everyone's list.
- 21:25Speaker 5: And then for GM, I think you know, whether you're
- 21:29Speaker 5: picking the head coach first or the GM first, the
- 21:32Speaker 5: two guys have to be in sync. So it's Rable.
- 21:35Speaker 5: You got to let him be in on that conversation
- 21:37Speaker 5: and bring in a guy that he can work with,
- 21:39Speaker 5: who has a relationship with We've seen these arranged marriages
- 21:42Speaker 5: starting with Rex and Izick to mccagnan and Bowles, the
- 21:45Speaker 5: Solid and Joe d It just doesn't work right. I mean,
- 21:50Speaker 5: we need guys that are coming in as a team
- 21:53Speaker 5: that are gonna work in sync and turn this thing around.
- 21:56Speaker 1: Okay, So I think Mike Tannebam's role needs to be
- 21:59Speaker 1: analyzed here. So here's how it's gonna work in these meetings.
- 22:02Speaker 1: And you guys probably know this as Jets fans, but
- 22:05Speaker 1: they're gonna likely fly everyone down to Palm Beach, where
- 22:08Speaker 1: Woody Johnson spends his winters. They're gonna sit down in
- 22:11Speaker 1: Palm Beach and it'll be Christopher Johnson, who's the younger brother.
- 22:14Speaker 1: It'll be Heimi Ala who who is the president of
- 22:18Speaker 1: the Jets, and it'll be Mike Tannembaum and maybe Rick
- 22:21Speaker 1: Spielman in there. Tannabaum, who was obviously there ten fifteen
- 22:26Speaker 1: years ago last time I went to the playoffs, but has.
- 22:28Speaker 2: Been on ESPN the last several years.
- 22:30Speaker 1: Does this thirty third team for a Cup of Coffee
- 22:33Speaker 1: was serving as an agent to Dan Quinn and Steve Kerr.
- 22:36Speaker 2: It's an interesting voice in.
- 22:38Speaker 1: Jets fandom because yes, there was great, glorious years of
- 22:42Speaker 1: AFC championships, but there also were some years at the
- 22:45Speaker 1: end there where Jets fans weren't enamored. He's gonna have
- 22:48Speaker 1: a voice now. Is he going to ultimately play a
- 22:52Speaker 1: role moving forward?
- 22:54Speaker 2: Is that GM who gets hired Curious of what's Tannebaum's
- 22:57Speaker 2: deal here? Is this a one and donner? Am I
- 22:59Speaker 2: gonna have to report to him?
- 23:01Speaker 1: Joe your thoughts on Tannabaum being so intimately involved in
- 23:04Speaker 1: all of this.
- 23:05Speaker 4: It's definitely an Now. I would rather have him and
- 23:08Speaker 4: Spielman wang in than just Woody and Chris and whoever
- 23:11Speaker 4: else in the family is now weighing in on decisions.
- 23:13Speaker 4: I think it's good they have former guys who have
- 23:16Speaker 4: done the job, and Tamnebaum did something that's really hard
- 23:19Speaker 4: to do here. He left with a winning record. I
- 23:21Speaker 4: think he was a little over five hundred, which does
- 23:23Speaker 4: not happen for a lot of Jets gms, so not perfect.
- 23:26Speaker 4: You know, he hit the t boat trade and things
- 23:27Speaker 4: got ugly at the end. But I would rather have
- 23:30Speaker 4: him weigh in. I hope it's just a one off, right.
- 23:32Speaker 4: He is working with them for the interview process. When
- 23:34Speaker 4: it's done, it's done, you clearly hand it off to
- 23:37Speaker 4: the new general manager or the new VP of football operations,
- 23:40Speaker 4: and then you get out of the way, and hopefully
- 23:41Speaker 4: they strongly recommend to Woody and ownership and Himei that
- 23:45Speaker 4: look like.
- 23:46Speaker 6: You trusted us to run this process.
- 23:48Speaker 4: Let your new GM bring in some recommended changes to analytics,
- 23:52Speaker 4: to scouting, to sports medicine, to how we deal with
- 23:55Speaker 4: the media, to every part of the organization, because every
- 23:58Speaker 4: little thing matters and adds up and they need that
- 24:00Speaker 4: full reset. They I don't blame them for the Rogers
- 24:03Speaker 4: hail mary. They missed on Zach Wilson. They needed to
- 24:05Speaker 4: throw a hail mary. It likely ended when he got
- 24:08Speaker 4: hurt against Buffalo. The timelines didn't add up anymore. This
- 24:11Speaker 4: year was just kind of an ugly et blog. I
- 24:12Speaker 4: didn't think it was going to be this ugly.
- 24:14Speaker 2: How crazy it ended in the fourth play of his tenure. Yeah, sad.
- 24:18Speaker 4: It really is sad. And I was in the building
- 24:20Speaker 4: and it was like I couldn't even watch it. I
- 24:22Speaker 4: was starting to watch Enigma a little bit, and I
- 24:24Speaker 4: was just like, I don't want to watch this again.
- 24:25Speaker 4: I don't want to relive this night. I don't want
- 24:27Speaker 4: to relive this. Just want over at this point, which
- 24:29Speaker 4: is shit, because it's not like you just you had
- 24:32Speaker 4: such high expectations, but you just got to blow it
- 24:34Speaker 4: up and start to work again. And I know that's
- 24:36Speaker 4: frustrating for everyone to hear, but you don't want to
- 24:39Speaker 4: row along something that didn't work, and this just didn't work.
- 24:42Speaker 4: They're four and eleven. Three of their wins are against
- 24:44Speaker 4: the mac Jones Jaguars, the Will Levis Titans, and the
- 24:47Speaker 4: Jacobre Presett Patriots. They are up picking in the top
- 24:50Speaker 4: four most likely. So you want to go full refresh
- 24:53Speaker 4: and hopefully that's what's allowed to happen.
- 24:57Speaker 2: Danny, your thoughts on the Rogers era as a whole.
- 25:00Speaker 5: Well, I mean the excitement in the parking lot prior
- 25:03Speaker 5: to the you know, the opener of the bills was
- 25:06Speaker 5: like thing. You know, I've seen him coming out with
- 25:09Speaker 5: the flags. I mean, the lights are going off. It
- 25:12Speaker 5: felt like it was a Super Bowl at MetLife. You
- 25:14Speaker 5: know that lasted about ten minutes, you know, going from
- 25:19Speaker 5: that high to that low, and that short of amount
- 25:21Speaker 5: of time was definitely not healthy for you know, the
- 25:23Speaker 5: eighty thousand people that were in attendance. But look, I
- 25:27Speaker 5: think they made the right move, you know, taking that
- 25:29Speaker 5: swing and going for Rogers. And if he didn't get
- 25:32Speaker 5: hurt four plays in, I think it would have been
- 25:35Speaker 5: I think we would have made the playoffs. But you know,
- 25:39Speaker 5: something was obviously off this year. He also had a
- 25:42Speaker 5: forty year old coming off in Achilles and it just
- 25:45Speaker 5: didn't work out.
- 25:46Speaker 7: So, you know, it's unfortunate. I think it was the
- 25:50Speaker 7: right move, but you know, here we are building from
- 25:53Speaker 7: scratch again.
- 25:54Speaker 1: Okay, and now, Danny, do you bring him back for
- 25:58Speaker 1: next year? If a coach comes in and says, all right,
- 26:00Speaker 1: there's no other I mean he saw Mike Greenberg, no
- 26:03Speaker 1: relation to Tampa.
- 26:03Speaker 2: Mike Greenberg, the ESPN one who made the point that
- 26:05Speaker 2: I think a lot of.
- 26:06Speaker 1: People not along with saying you're not you're not getting
- 26:09Speaker 1: Sam Donald back here. You know, the free agent class
- 26:12Speaker 1: is not a lade. The quarterback draft is probably not
- 26:15Speaker 1: going to be a top two pick fall into the Jets.
- 26:18Speaker 1: Are you any worse off with Rogers? But to me,
- 26:20Speaker 1: my response is culturally, you got to just get rid
- 26:23Speaker 1: of them if you want to start new and reset
- 26:24Speaker 1: what you thought.
- 26:25Speaker 5: Because of the cap situation and the dead money, you
- 26:28Speaker 5: definitely have to look into is there is there a
- 26:31Speaker 5: way to bring them back for one more year and
- 26:33Speaker 5: be a bridge guide to potentially a rookie that you
- 26:35Speaker 5: draft if you can, you know, sit down and get
- 26:38Speaker 5: everyone on the same page. Garrett Wilson top of the list, right,
- 26:42Speaker 5: because if Garrett's not happy, it's not going to work.
- 26:45Speaker 5: And you know, really the way that we saw it
- 26:47Speaker 5: was Devonte was coming in to open things up for Garrett,
- 26:50Speaker 5: not the other way around, So that that relationship has
- 26:54Speaker 5: to be fixed. That's but for the next you know,
- 26:56Speaker 5: head coach and GM, that's top of the list.
- 26:59Speaker 7: You have to look into it. I wouldn't say you
- 27:01Speaker 7: just release them day to season's over.
- 27:04Speaker 5: Again because if you if you get rid of him now,
- 27:08Speaker 5: the dead cap is so big.
- 27:11Speaker 7: So you have to at least look into that situation.
- 27:14Speaker 7: And maybe a Rabel.
- 27:15Speaker 5: Says, you know what, I'll take Rogers for a year,
- 27:17Speaker 5: I'll draft somebody, let him sit, and I think we can.
- 27:20Speaker 7: Win ten games running the ball, playing good defense with Rogers.
- 27:24Speaker 1: What about culturally though, having him in there with the
- 27:27Speaker 1: McAfee once.
- 27:28Speaker 5: I think, I think that's for the new head coach
- 27:30Speaker 5: and GM to the side if it can right ANSWER's
- 27:34Speaker 5: going on inside the locker room.
- 27:35Speaker 7: But again, what I see from Garrett Wilson I don't like.
- 27:38Speaker 5: And I think every Jets fan you know is on
- 27:41Speaker 5: the same page that Garrett Wilson is a key piece
- 27:44Speaker 5: into turning this situation around and he's got.
- 27:47Speaker 6: To be happy.
- 27:49Speaker 1: Joe, I'm gonna give you guys names. Now forget GM
- 27:52Speaker 1: for a second. I'm gonna pepper you with just names.
- 27:55Speaker 5: Give me your.
- 27:56Speaker 1: Thoughts if this is ultimately the head coach of the
- 27:58Speaker 1: New York Jets. Are you feeling good? Are you feeling
- 28:02Speaker 1: like you're settled? Are you feeling like you know this?
- 28:05Speaker 1: This won't be it? The first name I'm I'm going
- 28:06Speaker 1: to give you is the one that you mentioned. Liam Cohen,
- 28:10Speaker 1: who is a University of Massachusett's former quarterback, has been
- 28:15Speaker 1: around coaching ranks, was with the Rams for a while
- 28:19Speaker 1: under McVeigh, and of course was with Kentucky when Will
- 28:23Speaker 1: Levis had his big ears, and then went back to
- 28:26Speaker 1: the NFL and was with Tampa Bay in this great
- 28:29Speaker 1: Baker season. If Liam Cohen, first year head coach, really
- 28:33Speaker 1: green but also considered a really smart offensive mind as
- 28:36Speaker 1: the head coach, how are you feeling in the morning
- 28:38Speaker 1: after that press conference?
- 28:40Speaker 4: I think I'd be excited. I think you're playing coordinator
- 28:42Speaker 4: roulette a little bit, but that is inevitable when you're
- 28:44Speaker 4: doing these searches. If you're not going to land the
- 28:46Speaker 4: big fish like Vrabel and if you're going to play
- 28:48Speaker 4: coordinator Roulette. I think most Jet fans would be excited
- 28:51Speaker 4: to see that be from the offensive side of the football.
- 28:54Speaker 4: I mean, this is a franchise that has basically only
- 28:56Speaker 4: hired guys from the defensive side of the football outside
- 28:58Speaker 4: of Gase, which I've tried to erase from my memory.
- 29:01Speaker 4: So I think you'd be a generally happy fan base
- 29:03Speaker 4: if they hired him. He seems to be a top
- 29:05Speaker 4: three pick from fans right now, Danny, But Joe, Is.
- 29:10Speaker 5: Liam Cohen a great play caller or is he a
- 29:14Speaker 5: culture builder? Head coach CEO? That's what I'm great I think,
- 29:18Speaker 5: I think Williams. I think Liam's done a great job
- 29:21Speaker 5: with Baker in the Bucks. You know, they're putting up
- 29:24Speaker 5: a lot of points, and I mean Mike Evans is
- 29:26Speaker 5: having a fantastic season under the radar Bucky Irving.
- 29:29Speaker 7: But the Jets need more than a play caller, right
- 29:32Speaker 7: We need somebody that can really come in and change
- 29:34Speaker 7: the culture, like with what I've seen Jim Harball do
- 29:38Speaker 7: with the Chargers.
- 29:39Speaker 5: You know he's not a play caller, right, No, No,
- 29:43Speaker 5: they have they have their guys.
- 29:44Speaker 2: Greg Romans, the play caller in.
- 29:46Speaker 1: La but those guys don't Those guys don't grow on
- 29:50Speaker 1: trees right now?
- 29:50Speaker 4: How many? How many guys besides raybo Cat you go
- 29:56Speaker 4: to college?
- 29:57Speaker 2: What about Pete Carroll?
- 29:59Speaker 5: I like Pete Carroll?
- 30:01Speaker 2: Do you seventy three years old?
- 30:02Speaker 1: I think he was the coach of the Chicks for
- 30:04Speaker 1: the for the Boomerasias and Fake Spike before.
- 30:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 30:07Speaker 5: I like Pete Carroll. I don't think it's the right
- 30:09Speaker 5: fit with the Jets. I think he's the right fit
- 30:11Speaker 5: with a team that has a short window to win now,
- 30:14Speaker 5: not a rebuild, and we're looking for somebody that can
- 30:18Speaker 5: come in right the ship and be here a long term.
- 30:21Speaker 5: So I think Pete Carroll's probably a better fit for
- 30:24Speaker 5: a different team, Joe.
- 30:27Speaker 4: I think Pete Carroll people would be again excited about
- 30:30Speaker 4: because outside of Rabel, there's not a lot of names
- 30:33Speaker 4: out there who have been former head coaches who have won.
- 30:35Speaker 4: Ed Carroll's obviously won a lot. You worry about the age,
- 30:38Speaker 4: but he's always been a high energy guy, so I
- 30:40Speaker 4: don't worry about quaint as much with him. I just
- 30:43Speaker 4: I feel like I haven't heard a lot of chatter
- 30:45Speaker 4: about that marriage. Maybe he doesn't want to come back here.
- 30:47Speaker 4: He's already been a head coach here. It seems like
- 30:49Speaker 4: maybe that's more of a Bears thing. I certainly wouldn't
- 30:53Speaker 4: hate it, you know, I'd be more excited about that
- 30:54Speaker 4: than some of the other names I've been seeing, like
- 30:56Speaker 4: Arthur Smith or Matt Naggy trying to get a heart
- 30:58Speaker 4: attack for every Jet fan when they see that. So
- 31:02Speaker 4: I don't think you'd see Jet fans angry about a
- 31:05Speaker 4: Pete Carroll because again, he's won, and it's very hard
- 31:08Speaker 4: to find guys who have won. You got to end
- 31:10Speaker 4: a lot of times you end up rolling the dice
- 31:11Speaker 4: on the coordinator of the moment, And can they build
- 31:14Speaker 4: the right stack, can they have the right assistant head coach?
- 31:16Speaker 4: Can they know can cod hire the right defensive coordinator?
- 31:20Speaker 4: Is a guy like Rivera here as an assistant head
- 31:22Speaker 4: coach to help him as a first time or on
- 31:24Speaker 4: the job or something like that. I don't know, but
- 31:26Speaker 4: if it's not veryable, Carol's probably the only other former
- 31:30Speaker 4: head coach out there with that kind of reputation that
- 31:33Speaker 4: would be in the mix.
- 31:34Speaker 1: I want both your thoughts, Danny, I was doing Good
- 31:36Speaker 1: Morning Football today and Tom Pellasero very suddenly dropped the nugget,
- 31:40Speaker 1: and I don't think it's from Bob Lamont, the agent
- 31:42Speaker 1: who doesn't need to be dropping nuggets. And Bob represents everybody,
- 31:45Speaker 1: but his biggest client for many.
- 31:47Speaker 2: Years was one John Gruden.
- 31:48Speaker 1: And now John Gruden's name came up on Good Morning
- 31:50Speaker 1: Football that the Saints offered him the offensive coordinator job.
- 31:53Speaker 1: He said, no, thank you, you went to barstool instead.
- 31:56Speaker 2: Danny from lot E, If John Gruden is wearing.
- 32:00Speaker 1: The Jets colors at a press conference on January eighth
- 32:03Speaker 1: as the CEO of the football team, what is your reaction?
- 32:07Speaker 7: Wouldn't be too excited about that one.
- 32:09Speaker 5: You know, John was given the keys by the Raiders
- 32:12Speaker 5: really to come in, pick the players, run the team,
- 32:16Speaker 5: and we saw what happened, right, It wasn't a success.
- 32:19Speaker 5: I think he made the playoffs once as a enough Okay,
- 32:25Speaker 5: So yeah, you know, if I was going to go
- 32:30Speaker 5: for a coach like that, honestly, i'd take Rex over
- 32:33Speaker 5: John Rudin. But I'm excited about that either.
- 32:36Speaker 2: All Right, Rex thoughts Joe.
- 32:39Speaker 4: It's honestly, it's it's mind blowing to me that this
- 32:42Speaker 4: is actually like a real conversation.
- 32:44Speaker 2: It seems to be.
- 32:44Speaker 4: It seems like he's going to get intoview.
- 32:46Speaker 2: He will get an interview.
- 32:47Speaker 4: I mean, this guy is not been a head coach
- 32:49Speaker 4: in a decade. Now, Listen, what every Jet fan loves
- 32:51Speaker 4: about Rex is that Rex has a genuine passion for
- 32:54Speaker 4: being a Jet thank you for the organization, which outside
- 32:57Speaker 4: of fans it's few far between out there. Now Does
- 33:00Speaker 4: that mean he has any idea how to coach a
- 33:02Speaker 4: winning team at twenty twenty four? Who is his offensive coordinator?
- 33:05Speaker 4: Is he re High the old band from twenty ten?
- 33:08Speaker 4: I don't know, but man, I do if he gets
- 33:12Speaker 4: an interview, and like Rabel's already somewhere else, I do
- 33:15Speaker 4: kind of worry about the ground smell of being like
- 33:18Speaker 4: about it just time. And I also feel like if
- 33:20Speaker 4: you're not bringing Rogers back, like there's a Rex in
- 33:23Speaker 4: Rogers like one two year like bridge thing I could
- 33:26Speaker 4: maybe talk myself into, because I don't have a choice
- 33:28Speaker 4: because I'm a Jets fan. Beyond mat Man, that is
- 33:31Speaker 4: like potential for a complete disaster, and I don't want
- 33:33Speaker 4: to ruin by what was good Rex memories. Although it
- 33:36Speaker 4: didn't angreat, it just feels like crazy to me. I
- 33:39Speaker 4: don't think they can do it.
- 33:40Speaker 5: I agree with you, Joe, but I would interview Rex
- 33:42Speaker 5: and I would hear what he has to say, because look,
- 33:44Speaker 5: he's been on ESPN, He's seen what's going on in
- 33:46Speaker 5: the league, and he knows football, and he can shoot
- 33:50Speaker 5: it to Wood's straight and tell him really what's going
- 33:52Speaker 5: on here, what the problems are here, and what needs
- 33:55Speaker 5: to change. And I think that would just be a
- 33:56Speaker 5: good conversation, you know, for what he to have. I'm
- 33:59Speaker 5: not banging a table for Rex to be the coach,
- 34:01Speaker 5: and I don't think a lot of Jets fans would
- 34:03Speaker 5: be happy for that. I'm just saying when it comes
- 34:05Speaker 5: to hiring an old coach that hasn't had success in
- 34:08Speaker 5: a while, and we're bringing up Gruden, you know, I
- 34:11Speaker 5: don't think either of these guys are the right fit
- 34:13Speaker 5: right now.
- 34:13Speaker 1: One thing I would say with Rex, and I wish
- 34:15Speaker 1: I could. Maybe I will reach out to him. I've
- 34:17Speaker 1: talked to him before. It's like you can't come in
- 34:19Speaker 1: there and be like my son is going to be
- 34:21Speaker 1: offensive coordinator, my brother's defensive coordinator, and Dennis Thurmond is
- 34:24Speaker 1: going to be, you know, in the in the defensive room,
- 34:26Speaker 1: like those guys can all have jobs, and I understand,
- 34:29Speaker 1: but like you kind of need to pair Rex with
- 34:31Speaker 1: one of these hot offensive coordinators to kind of satisfy
- 34:33Speaker 1: the fan base, right.
- 34:35Speaker 4: Yes, definitely, because that was always a concern with Rex
- 34:37Speaker 4: about was he just focused on the defense and it
- 34:40Speaker 4: worked for a little bit with Shoddy, But you need
- 34:42Speaker 4: a new offensive mine if you're going to go that route,
- 34:44Speaker 4: and you have to have a real.
- 34:45Speaker 6: Forward thinking plan.
- 34:48Speaker 4: And look, I mean, he's probably one of the five
- 34:49Speaker 4: or six most likely people to get the job, which
- 34:51Speaker 4: again feels inconceivable, but everything around this franchise feels inconceivable
- 34:55Speaker 4: at times.
- 34:56Speaker 6: So I think he's gonna get an interview and be
- 34:58Speaker 6: in the mix.
- 34:58Speaker 1: Okay, I got a few more names that will wrap this.
- 35:01Speaker 1: I actually love this exercise. It's good to get it
- 35:03Speaker 1: all out there, all right, Danny, I'll start with you
- 35:05Speaker 1: on this one coach with New York Ties, the pride
- 35:08Speaker 1: of Polly Prep in Brooklyn, and a guy who absolutely
- 35:12Speaker 1: despises the Miami Dolphins and a guy who also has
- 35:14Speaker 1: a legal bout going on with the NFL, Brian flores
- 35:19Speaker 1: Man a very few words, would he do anything for
- 35:21Speaker 1: you as far as moved the needle as a new
- 35:24Speaker 1: head coach of the New York Jets.
- 35:26Speaker 5: I would definitely say Flores is in the top five
- 35:28Speaker 5: on my interview list. He's a hard nosed, no nonsense,
- 35:34Speaker 5: you know, really strong defensive coach. He's done a great
- 35:37Speaker 5: job with the Vikings. I think he's also a culture builder.
- 35:40Speaker 5: But with him as well, you know who's he bringing
- 35:43Speaker 5: his offensive coordinator because he's not bringing Kevin O'Connell with them, right,
- 35:47Speaker 5: so you know that's going to be the key piece
- 35:51Speaker 5: with Flores is who's running the offense. But Brooklyn guy,
- 35:55Speaker 5: you know AFC East experience, did a decent job with
- 35:58Speaker 5: the Dolphins.
- 35:59Speaker 7: He you know, they made the playoffs with they.
- 36:02Speaker 1: They didn't they didn't make the playoffs. They made it
- 36:05Speaker 1: with Gase, they didn't make it with and they just
- 36:07Speaker 1: missed out. Okay, But obviously going back in it, like
- 36:11Speaker 1: just for Floras and I'm not speaking on behalf of Brian,
- 36:13Speaker 1: but like he and Tua obviously had an issue and
- 36:16Speaker 1: he and Chris Career, so there was friction there, which
- 36:18Speaker 1: is never a good thing for your head coach.
- 36:20Speaker 2: They weren't on the same page. But he was not
- 36:22Speaker 2: a to a.
- 36:22Speaker 1: Guy from all tents from all the accounts afterwards, and
- 36:25Speaker 1: whether or not he's right or not is you know,
- 36:27Speaker 1: the jury's out on that.
- 36:29Speaker 2: But like he would have gone with FITZI I think
- 36:31Speaker 2: over Tua, he's.
- 36:32Speaker 5: Got to come with a GM that he has a
- 36:34Speaker 5: relationship with, that he can work with. But he's definitely
- 36:36Speaker 5: a guy the jet should be talking to.
- 36:38Speaker 1: Okay, Joe, what do you think of Flora's I like
- 36:41Speaker 1: Flora's a lot as a candidate.
- 36:42Speaker 4: I think he should be in the top like three ish.
- 36:45Speaker 4: I think from an energy and an attitude and a
- 36:47Speaker 4: toughness standpoint, they badly need that, especially on the defensive
- 36:51Speaker 4: side of the football. They are just so soft and
- 36:53Speaker 4: it's crazy watching a unit that was so good quickly
- 36:56Speaker 4: gets so bad. Who's the offensive coordinator? You know, I'll
- 36:59Speaker 4: get you high in the sky. Could he bring Josh
- 37:01Speaker 4: McCown this is offensive coordinator? About that?
- 37:04Speaker 5: Ye?
- 37:04Speaker 4: Could you include a trade for jj McCarthy in that
- 37:07Speaker 4: since the Vikings are going to roll with the now
- 37:09Speaker 4: you know, now we're piecing it all together to ride
- 37:11Speaker 4: the coattails of the Vikings. Like you gotta think a
- 37:14Speaker 4: little outside the box in a vacuum. I think Flora
- 37:17Speaker 4: is a strong candidate, and I think if they don't
- 37:18Speaker 4: get Rabel, I think you t hear a lot of
- 37:21Speaker 4: Jet fans being like, all right, I prefer him. I
- 37:23Speaker 4: prefer Cone, and you know, maybe we could get Carol.
- 37:26Speaker 4: But I hear Flora's his name come up a lot,
- 37:28Speaker 4: and I think he hates the Dolphins.
- 37:30Speaker 6: I think he might not have been wrong about Tua.
- 37:31Speaker 4: I think Jet fans will like that he's familiar with
- 37:33Speaker 4: the division, and you know, he won a decent amount
- 37:36Speaker 4: of games in a really hard situation.
- 37:38Speaker 6: So I don't mind him as a candidate at all.
- 37:40Speaker 1: Okay, some wild card names that I'm going to put
- 37:42Speaker 1: out there, Mike McCarthy if it doesn't work out in Dallas,
- 37:45Speaker 1: if he's a if he's either fired or he's like,
- 37:48Speaker 1: I want to entertain other options because my contracts expired, Joe,
- 37:51Speaker 1: would you be interested in meeting with Mike McCarthy as
- 37:54Speaker 1: the next head coach of the New York Jets.
- 37:56Speaker 4: It doesn't get me particularly excited. I think doesn't hurt
- 37:58Speaker 4: to meet with him. He's a guy who's had a
- 37:59Speaker 4: lot of success. Obviously there'll be a lot of well
- 38:02Speaker 4: Rodgers is going to come back now? I don't know
- 38:03Speaker 4: where the relationship sits at the moment. I'm assuming it's
- 38:05Speaker 4: pretty positive based on the latest documentaries, but I don't know.
- 38:09Speaker 4: It kind of feels like maybe the time has passed
- 38:11Speaker 4: him by, and I'm not particularly excited about it. Reasonable
- 38:15Speaker 4: from an interview perspective, but if they're end up hiring him,
- 38:19Speaker 4: I feel like there's not.
- 38:19Speaker 6: Going to be parades in the streets of forum talk
- 38:21Speaker 6: about it.
- 38:22Speaker 2: Danny, Mike McCarthy, what's your reaction.
- 38:25Speaker 7: With the talent he's had.
- 38:26Speaker 5: I think he's underachieved, hasn't shown up in a lot
- 38:30Speaker 5: of big games. I think having Aaron Rodgers for all
- 38:33Speaker 5: those years probably should have more than one ring. And
- 38:37Speaker 5: you know, been a disappointment with the Cowboys as well.
- 38:40Speaker 5: Seems like they win a lot of games and then
- 38:42Speaker 5: when it comes to, you know, crunch time in the playoffs,
- 38:45Speaker 5: they underperform. So I'm going to pass on Mike all right.
- 38:49Speaker 1: Joe Cliff Kingsbury, former head coach, having a lot of
- 38:51Speaker 1: success with Jayden Daniels.
- 38:52Speaker 2: We haven't mentioned his name yet.
- 38:54Speaker 4: I think that'd be an interesting one. I know he's
- 38:56Speaker 4: been through the cycle and interviewed here before. Again, I
- 38:58Speaker 4: think people will be excited about an offensive mind. There's
- 39:01Speaker 4: always been some questions there that he kind of flame
- 39:03Speaker 4: out down the stretch. But was that more of a
- 39:05Speaker 4: Cardinals thing, Kyler thing than a him thing. I mean,
- 39:08Speaker 4: not at the top of the list, but someone I
- 39:10Speaker 4: think worth talking to, and you know he's going to
- 39:11Speaker 4: bring it innovative offense and with depending on who the
- 39:14Speaker 4: quarterback is and how you're designing an offense around him.
- 39:17Speaker 4: It's an interesting enough name. I'm curious if he would
- 39:20Speaker 4: go through the interview process again with the Jets, kind
- 39:22Speaker 4: of like a lot of Jet fans are excited about Munkin.
- 39:24Speaker 4: But is Monken gonna go do the whole song and
- 39:26Speaker 4: dance again after twenty nineteen.
- 39:28Speaker 6: I'm not sure, And I wonder if Kingsbury is in
- 39:30Speaker 6: the same boat.
- 39:32Speaker 2: Danny, what do you think Kingsbury has a name?
- 39:34Speaker 5: I like Cliff a lot. I think he's a great
- 39:36Speaker 5: offensive mine, great play caller. He's done a masterful job
- 39:39Speaker 5: of Gayden Daniels. I think we all see that. My
- 39:42Speaker 5: concern with Cliff and it's just just not knowing the guy.
- 39:46Speaker 6: Right.
- 39:47Speaker 5: Can he come in and be a CEO and change
- 39:50Speaker 5: the culture. If the answer to that is yes. Look,
- 39:55Speaker 5: he obviously can get the offense turned around, and he
- 39:58Speaker 5: can work with the rookie quarterback, and there's not many
- 40:01Speaker 5: guys out there that can coach the quarterback these days.
- 40:03Speaker 7: So you know, Cliff's definitely in the top tier.
- 40:07Speaker 5: Definitely want to talk to him, and I think with
- 40:10Speaker 5: his personality, he'd be a good fit for New York
- 40:12Speaker 5: as well.
- 40:12Speaker 1: Morning after Joe, The answer is Cliff Kingsbury Morning After.
- 40:16Speaker 1: The reaction by the New York Jets fan base that
- 40:18Speaker 1: you deal with is eh, is all right, It's kind
- 40:21Speaker 1: of it's kind of like I think.
- 40:23Speaker 4: I think it's like cautious optimists think he's like, all right,
- 40:26Speaker 4: let's be open minded. We'll look at everything he just
- 40:29Speaker 4: did with Daniels like. He's got the fun personality. I
- 40:31Speaker 4: think that could fit well handled the right way. How's
- 40:34Speaker 4: he building the rest of his staff? Again, I think
- 40:36Speaker 4: Jet fans, from what I've seen, if you trot out
- 40:39Speaker 4: a Matt Maggie, you trot out in Arthur Smith, you
- 40:41Speaker 4: trot out to Rivera. That's why I've seen Jet fans
- 40:44Speaker 4: of a very visceral, angry reaction. I don't think you
- 40:46Speaker 4: get that with Kingsbury. I think people will be open
- 40:47Speaker 4: minded about it.
- 40:48Speaker 1: A couple more start with you, Joe Aaron Glenn, former
- 40:52Speaker 1: Jets legend parcels Era has really paid his dues, but
- 40:56Speaker 1: that defense has been torched this year despite injury.
- 40:59Speaker 4: I mean, I like Glenn. He's gotten less popular in
- 41:01Speaker 4: the past month, which maybe isn't fair at him because
- 41:03Speaker 4: he's playing with a bunch of practice squad guys on
- 41:05Speaker 4: defense right now. I like that he's coming from such
- 41:08Speaker 4: a strong culture. He's learned under Dan Campbell. It's nice
- 41:11Speaker 4: that he's played here and was like a successful, like
- 41:14Speaker 4: overachieving guy. How much that translates to being a coach,
- 41:17Speaker 4: I don't know, but people will be very open minded
- 41:19Speaker 4: to giving him a chance because again, he's another guy
- 41:22Speaker 4: I think that will identify well with the organization. And
- 41:26Speaker 4: let's see how the defense looks to the playoffs. Can
- 41:28Speaker 4: they If the Lions go in Super Bowl or get
- 41:30Speaker 4: to the Super Bowl and the defense overachieves, I think
- 41:33Speaker 4: people will start talking themselves back into him. Who's the
- 41:35Speaker 4: offensive coordinator, of course, will be a key question. I
- 41:38Speaker 4: think he'll definitely get an interview, and I think it's
- 41:40Speaker 4: either the Saints or the Jets.
- 41:42Speaker 6: Wherever he ends up being a head coach, Danny.
- 41:46Speaker 5: It just feels too similar to Salah Right, I got it,
- 41:49Speaker 5: you know, legit defensive coordinator on a winning team. Look,
- 41:55Speaker 5: they've done an amazing job changing the culture with the Lions,
- 41:58Speaker 5: and I think, you know, Glenn has a front row
- 42:01Speaker 5: seat to you know, what Dan Campbell has done, and
- 42:03Speaker 5: I'm sure.
- 42:03Speaker 7: He's been played a big part in it as well.
- 42:05Speaker 5: But it just feels too similar to Saul hiring the
- 42:08Speaker 5: hot defensive coordinator. I know he has, you know, the
- 42:11Speaker 5: history with the Jets, and I always liked Aaron Glenn,
- 42:14Speaker 5: but in the position that we're in, I think we
- 42:16Speaker 5: just need something a little different.
- 42:18Speaker 1: All Right, The next three names I'm just going to
- 42:20Speaker 1: throw together, and you guys tell me if any of
- 42:22Speaker 1: them do anything for you. Joe Brady, Okay, Helen Moore
- 42:30Speaker 1: and Wes Phillips, who is helping Kevin O'Connell with the
- 42:34Speaker 1: Vikings offense. Do any of those three names, and he's
- 42:36Speaker 1: also Wade Phillips's kid, Do any of those three names
- 42:38Speaker 1: do anything for you, guys.
- 42:40Speaker 4: Brady's kind of interesting. He's a guy I think the
- 42:42Speaker 4: Jets have spent some time looking at He's familiar with
- 42:44Speaker 4: the division. I think he's done really good work in Buffalo,
- 42:47Speaker 4: kind of like the He's got an interesting background. I
- 42:50Speaker 4: think he's a name that came up a decent amount,
- 42:52Speaker 4: especially compared to the other two you mentioned, and have
- 42:54Speaker 4: not really heard kicked around anywhere near as much.
- 42:57Speaker 6: And that doesn't mean they're.
- 42:58Speaker 4: Not going to get hired, because I don't think people
- 43:00Speaker 4: expected Gas to get hired when he got hired, you know,
- 43:02Speaker 4: so on and so forth. I think Brady of those three,
- 43:05Speaker 4: to me, is the most interesting.
- 43:07Speaker 2: Danny, Kellen Moore, West Phillips, Joe Brady.
- 43:10Speaker 1: I just put them all in because the three offensive
- 43:11Speaker 1: guys on three teams that are going to the playoffs.
- 43:14Speaker 5: I agree with Joe. Joe Brady is the top of
- 43:16Speaker 5: that list for me. You know, a few years back,
- 43:20Speaker 5: if you guys remember, he was, you know, hot, at
- 43:22Speaker 5: the top of at the top of you know, everybody,
- 43:25Speaker 5: the interview.
- 43:25Speaker 1: For the Carolina job, I think when he was twenty
- 43:27Speaker 1: nine years old. Any names that I have not mentioned
- 43:30Speaker 1: that intrigue you. I'm going to throw out a name
- 43:32Speaker 1: who's running the defensive backfield in Denver that I have
- 43:35Speaker 1: not gotten any traction with that I've mentioned a few
- 43:37Speaker 1: places Jim Leonard, the Old Jet is with Patrick Sartan
- 43:41Speaker 1: and with those guys, you want to talk about a cultural,
- 43:43Speaker 1: cultural guy. I remember when he's a player, and then
- 43:46Speaker 1: you hear about the Wisconsin years, and then I know
- 43:48Speaker 1: from Sean Payton that in Denver, like he's a real
- 43:50Speaker 1: voice there. That's my name as an absolute wild card
- 43:53Speaker 1: outside the box, like thought, Jim Leonard to come in
- 43:56Speaker 1: and you got your your bridge to the rex Era
- 43:59Speaker 1: and your bridge to the Jets, But you also have
- 44:01Speaker 1: a young coach that hasn't been talked about at all.
- 44:03Speaker 1: Is there any other names that you guys would like
- 44:05Speaker 1: to see at least interviewed that as fans and as
- 44:09Speaker 1: people who follow it kind of.
- 44:10Speaker 2: Move your need a little bit.
- 44:12Speaker 4: Leonard has some big fans in the bad Lands staff.
- 44:14Speaker 4: I will say that would be right outside the box.
- 44:16Speaker 4: I think the name recognition certainly wouldn't hurt him. Questions again,
- 44:20Speaker 4: who's calling the plays? Is he ready for that kind
- 44:23Speaker 4: of role? Do you leap frog and give him McCown
- 44:25Speaker 4: directly an interview as a head coach and skip and
- 44:27Speaker 4: say you know what, he was maybe gonna get interviewed
- 44:29Speaker 4: as a head coach a few years ago for Houston,
- 44:31Speaker 4: and we're gonna just jump right ahead and we're gonna
- 44:33Speaker 4: assume he learned enough from O'Connell and could be that
- 44:36Speaker 4: guy for us. I know he's beloved by the Jets organization.
- 44:39Speaker 4: So those are two other guys with former Jet ties
- 44:41Speaker 4: that I think are interesting. It doesn't feel like there's
- 44:42Speaker 4: any like names at the college level that anyone is
- 44:45Speaker 4: talking about anymore.
- 44:47Speaker 2: Matt Campbell's name, like it's almost the window pass now.
- 44:51Speaker 4: Yeah, we spent a lot of time talking about Matt Campbell,
- 44:54Speaker 4: but I feel like that windows kind of passed now,
- 44:56Speaker 4: and it's just there's not like that college head coach
- 44:59Speaker 4: that since they didn't get it on.
- 45:00Speaker 6: Hardball, that they're going to go after it all.
- 45:02Speaker 4: So Leonard and McCown a little more deeper cuts, but
- 45:05Speaker 4: would be interesting.
- 45:07Speaker 5: Danny, I'll throw one out there, Joe, what about Kirby Smart?
- 45:12Speaker 5: And look, I think that's one percent chance of him
- 45:16Speaker 5: even taking the.
- 45:17Speaker 4: Nay, why not create some buzz I like it?
- 45:20Speaker 5: Why not make the call. I mean, if there's one
- 45:22Speaker 5: guy in college that I think could do it at
- 45:23Speaker 5: the NFL level, it's him.
- 45:25Speaker 1: I think that's a good way to wrap this because
- 45:28Speaker 1: my advice to any any team that's in a situation
- 45:31Speaker 1: like the Jets, and I think the Bears and the
- 45:33Speaker 1: Saints are, it doesn't hurt to try to at least
- 45:37Speaker 1: meet with these guys, and if they say no, there's
- 45:39Speaker 1: no harm done.
- 45:40Speaker 2: The fans do not spite you for that.
- 45:41Speaker 1: But like if Adam Schefter tweeted out that the Jets
- 45:44Speaker 1: have requested an opportunity to meet with Kirby Smart and
- 45:47Speaker 1: Kirby Smart declined it and is going back to Georgia.
- 45:49Speaker 2: I don't think a single Jets fan.
- 45:51Speaker 1: Would be like, oh, what the hell are they doing
- 45:53Speaker 1: talking to Kirby Smart.
- 45:54Speaker 2: I actually liked that idea.
- 45:55Speaker 1: And I had the news that the Bears were sniffing
- 45:58Speaker 1: around on Marcus Freeman.
- 45:59Speaker 2: I know that because it's true and Freeman got an extension.
- 46:02Speaker 5: Of Notre Dame.
- 46:02Speaker 1: Not because I'm my report, but he's a good coach
- 46:05Speaker 1: at Notre Dame. But it didn't hurt the Bears to
- 46:08Speaker 1: have that out there. I think it actually was like, okay, cool,
- 46:10Speaker 1: we're looking for something.
- 46:12Speaker 4: I mean, look, Jet fans, I don't see any world
- 46:14Speaker 4: they would complain about that. They want the organization to
- 46:17Speaker 4: cast a wide net, to think outside the box, to
- 46:19Speaker 4: try any and everything to fix this damn thing. And
- 46:22Speaker 4: if what he's willing to throw around the kind of
- 46:25Speaker 4: money that it would take to get him to leave,
- 46:27Speaker 4: I don't think you'd see people complain about it. It certainly again,
- 46:30Speaker 4: it's better than hiring some of the lower tier names.
- 46:32Speaker 4: I would argue that we discussed where that would generate
- 46:35Speaker 4: some buzz, and not in a bad way that you're
- 46:37Speaker 4: rolling the dice, but all these guys really, probably outside
- 46:40Speaker 4: of Rabel, you're rolling the dice to a pretty big extent.
- 46:43Speaker 4: It's just you got to hope for the best and
- 46:44Speaker 4: hope it finally clicks together with the head coach of
- 46:47Speaker 4: the GM.
- 46:48Speaker 2: Okay, I'm gonna wrap with this.
- 46:49Speaker 4: Danny.
- 46:50Speaker 2: You are a long time season ticket holder with your family.
- 46:53Speaker 2: You walked away this year.
- 46:55Speaker 1: Your message to the Jets fans and the Jets organization
- 46:58Speaker 1: as to why you finally said enough is enough.
- 47:02Speaker 5: Look, I haven't felt this way since one in fifteen,
- 47:05Speaker 5: So I'm just hoping that what he feels the same way.
- 47:09Speaker 5: He's had enough, he's ready to swing big, bring in
- 47:12Speaker 5: somebody that he's going to hand the keys to and say,
- 47:14Speaker 5: let look, let me, let me stay out of the way,
- 47:17Speaker 5: let the football guys do their thing, and bring you know,
- 47:20Speaker 5: respectability back to the Jets. I'm hoping that's what can happen.
- 47:23Speaker 5: You know, there's been a lot of bad you know
- 47:25Speaker 5: press out there, articles about you know, teenagers running the show,
- 47:30Speaker 5: Madden ratings and a lot of other nonsense, and hopefully
- 47:33Speaker 5: this is a big wake up call and gets them
- 47:35Speaker 5: to kind of rally around and say, you know, let's
- 47:39Speaker 5: make the right hires here and you know, get on
- 47:41Speaker 5: the road to respectability.
- 47:45Speaker 1: Joe, I wrap with you as one of the leading
- 47:47Speaker 1: content creators with one of the number one podcasts on
- 47:50Speaker 1: the Jets. Your message if say Jets ownership or Jets
- 47:55Speaker 1: presidenter Jet's leadership is listening to this podcast over the
- 47:58Speaker 1: New Year's weekend.
- 47:59Speaker 6: Man like you got hearts and minds to win.
- 48:01Speaker 4: This is as down as I've seen the fan base
- 48:03Speaker 4: ever viscerally angry across the board. So you better be
- 48:07Speaker 4: very proactive with your communications about how robust this search
- 48:11Speaker 4: is going to be. You better be very proactive talking
- 48:14Speaker 4: about structural changes that are going to happen to the
- 48:17Speaker 4: organization that you're going to be a forward thinking org.
- 48:20Speaker 4: You're going to staff up the front office. You're going
- 48:22Speaker 4: to staff up analytics, You're going to staff up scouting.
- 48:25Speaker 4: We are going to do this right and build it
- 48:27Speaker 4: the right way. We are going to squash any questions
- 48:31Speaker 4: or debates that were not apologize for how these last
- 48:34Speaker 4: few years ago. Recognize that it's the longest drought in
- 48:37Speaker 4: American professional sports which exist, that insane fourteen years. And
- 48:43Speaker 4: let's get this new regime to have a mandate sooner
- 48:45Speaker 4: rather than later to make the damn playoffs. And Joe
- 48:48Speaker 4: Douglas and Robert Hollow were given a lot of time.
- 48:50Speaker 4: They were given four years and six years, respectively. This
- 48:53Speaker 4: fan base, more than any other fan base in any
- 48:56Speaker 4: major sport, just needs a playoff appearance to get that
- 48:59Speaker 4: monkey off their back and move forward from there. So
- 49:03Speaker 4: let's have a little urgency. Let's not be raising the
- 49:05Speaker 4: ticket price in the middle of the season at the
- 49:08Speaker 4: worst possible time, and let's play some offense from a
- 49:11Speaker 4: pr perspective instead of being reactive. And fans will be there.
- 49:15Speaker 4: We'll always show up. We'll just be watching, even if
- 49:17Speaker 4: we don't have season tickets. I don't have season tickets
- 49:18Speaker 4: anymore either. But you know, I'll be watching that Miami
- 49:21Speaker 4: game at four twenty five on Sunday seeing if we're
- 49:24Speaker 4: gonna be picking third or ninth or whatever the hell
- 49:26Speaker 4: is gonna happen. But man, this is as Matt as
- 49:29Speaker 4: I've seen the fan base ever. And I get it.
- 49:31Speaker 5: Joe.
- 49:31Speaker 1: I think you have a similar I think you have
- 49:32Speaker 1: a similar brain as I do as far as memories
- 49:35Speaker 1: of games are. I was listening to the podcast that
- 49:37Speaker 1: you guys do, and you're like, you had your I
- 49:40Speaker 1: guess your first your first child or your second child.
- 49:42Speaker 2: You're like, I.
- 49:43Speaker 1: Remember the game that was an hour later and it
- 49:45Speaker 1: was what was that game?
- 49:46Speaker 2: And I cause I think we've all been there where.
- 49:48Speaker 1: It's like, that's how you kind of these life memories, Yes,
- 49:50Speaker 1: apt in football memories.
- 49:51Speaker 4: The first the first hour my kid's life is watching
- 49:54Speaker 4: Darnold against the Dolphins throw a touchdown to Balal Pound. Now,
- 49:56Speaker 4: unfortunately they lost that game and now he's a Jets
- 49:58Speaker 4: fan already. My wife is furious about it, but they
- 50:01Speaker 4: stuck and he's gonna have to deal with it for
- 50:02Speaker 4: the rest of his life. And I was trying to
- 50:04Speaker 4: explain to him because he's well do you want them
- 50:06Speaker 4: to win today when we're watching the Buffalo game, Like,
- 50:08Speaker 4: I'm not gonna be mad if they win, but I'm
- 50:10Speaker 4: also not gonna be mad if they lose because we
- 50:11Speaker 4: need a better draft pick, and no six year old
- 50:13Speaker 4: should have to wrap their head. I just want to
- 50:14Speaker 4: win games and go to playoff games. Danny.
- 50:17Speaker 1: You you've got two beautiful daughters that are under the
- 50:19Speaker 1: age of eight, Like they're they're they're born into this.
- 50:22Speaker 7: Right, this is why God gave me two daughters.
- 50:25Speaker 5: So you know, I can't put a son through the
- 50:27Speaker 5: pain that I've been through that.
- 50:29Speaker 7: A lot of my friends are putting their kids through.
- 50:34Speaker 5: You know, nobody should have to go through it like this.
- 50:40Speaker 4: Is like a grieving paraphy.
- 50:42Speaker 5: Look, you talk about memories and stuff like that. I mean,
- 50:45Speaker 5: I remember banging the table for Ed Reid and you
- 50:48Speaker 5: know tag Leabou I think it was at that time,
- 50:51Speaker 5: going up to the podium and you know, saying the
- 50:55Speaker 5: Jets have selected Brian Thomas, and you know how furious
- 50:58Speaker 5: I was.
- 50:58Speaker 7: So the stories are endless.
- 51:01Speaker 5: You know, there's been a lot of disappointment, and you
- 51:05Speaker 5: know it's time to time to finally get this right
- 51:08Speaker 5: and build a long term winning organizations.
- 51:12Speaker 1: You guys are the best. I so appreciate you doing this.
- 51:15Speaker 1: Look it's December, like twenty twenty four. We're gonna turn
- 51:17Speaker 1: the page. Twenty twenty five is the new year.
- 51:19Speaker 2: As you guys know, I went on.
- 51:21Speaker 1: National television and said that the Jets are gonna be
- 51:23Speaker 1: the one seed in the AFC and Rogers's.
- 51:25Speaker 2: Gonna be the MVP. I have done a lot of
- 51:27Speaker 2: great things, a lot of butter things.
- 51:28Speaker 1: I never have even in a million years, imagine the
- 51:31Speaker 1: amount of I would take. I can't walk down the
- 51:33Speaker 1: street in New York without someone saying nice Jets pick
- 51:36Speaker 1: so like, I'm in it.
- 51:37Speaker 2: With you, guys, I really am this year. I'm with you.
- 51:40Speaker 4: We need this season to be over it. It's time.
- 51:42Speaker 4: I am ready. Not that we're not always ready for
- 51:44Speaker 4: the off season, but I am really ready for the
- 51:46Speaker 4: off season to hit. And it's got to end.
- 51:49Speaker 6: At some point.
- 51:50Speaker 4: The playoff dround has to end at some point. I
- 51:52Speaker 4: look at Buffalo, I look at Detroit. They were a
- 51:54Speaker 4: mess for a very very long time, and I hold
- 51:57Speaker 4: on to that has some hope in the future. NIXT
- 51:59Speaker 4: to next for a disaster for a while and We're
- 52:01Speaker 4: good now, so.
- 52:02Speaker 2: Let's see Danny closing statements and then we'll get out
- 52:04Speaker 2: of here.
- 52:06Speaker 5: Show you brought the next look what they did, right,
- 52:09Speaker 5: you know, they brought in somebody with a lot of
- 52:11Speaker 5: experience and knowledge to run the organization and we see
- 52:14Speaker 5: the results. So Woody, Christopher hie me, you know, look
- 52:17Speaker 5: to them as a case study and you know, let's
- 52:19Speaker 5: do the same.
- 52:21Speaker 1: Guys, Happy New Years. I appreciate both of you. Joe Caparosa,
- 52:24Speaker 1: you can find them on the bad Lands podcast.
- 52:27Speaker 2: Very good listen.
- 52:28Speaker 1: Not just Jets focused, all football focused, but they really
- 52:31Speaker 1: they got the heart of the Jets fan.
- 52:33Speaker 2: And Danny, do you want to promote anything?
- 52:35Speaker 1: I know you don't have a blog or a podcast,
- 52:37Speaker 1: but you could. You could promote our text chain. You
- 52:39Speaker 1: can promote our our weekly padel games.
- 52:42Speaker 2: Whatever you want.
- 52:43Speaker 5: Yeah, paddle House, Dumbo shout out. You know it's our
- 52:47Speaker 5: weekly spot. You know. I'm sure you guys have heard
- 52:49Speaker 5: a lot about paddle from Peter. You know, great sport.
- 52:53Speaker 5: And uh, we'll see you in the new year.
- 52:55Speaker 2: In there, all right, boys, thank you?
- 53:02Speaker 4: All right.
- 53:03Speaker 2: I love those two guys.
- 53:05Speaker 1: They didn't know each other are going in but I
- 53:07Speaker 1: thought that's a really good like brainstorming session.
- 53:10Speaker 2: And I don't know, maybe you don't care about the
- 53:12Speaker 2: Jet's coaching job.
- 53:12Speaker 1: I think it's a huge, huge story over the next
- 53:15Speaker 1: few weeks because it determines Rogers's future and also a
- 53:19Speaker 1: lot of dominoes will fall. But I have no idea
- 53:22Speaker 1: who that job is going to, but good luck to
- 53:24Speaker 1: whoever it does, and that includes the general manager role.
- 53:27Speaker 5: The season with.
- 53:28Speaker 1: Peter Schrager is presented by delivering Results, which is presented
- 53:32Speaker 1: by uber eats. And it's time for us to give
- 53:34Speaker 1: the award for the delivering results, which is presented by
- 53:38Speaker 1: uber Eats, and it goes to a player who really
- 53:41Speaker 1: was outstanding over the weekend, and that's Jaden Daniels, the
- 53:43Speaker 1: rookie from Washington. I could have done a whole podcast
- 53:46Speaker 1: on what the Commanders have done. They just won their
- 53:48Speaker 1: eleventh game for the first time since nineteen ninety one.
- 53:52Speaker 1: Jaden Daniels had five touchdowns on Sunday. Jaden Daniels had,
- 53:58Speaker 1: of course the one hundred and I think sixty seven
- 54:01Speaker 1: rushing yards on Sunday. The guys putting up huge numbers
- 54:04Speaker 1: as a rookie and he's doing it for a friend.
- 54:06Speaker 2: That has never needed it more.
- 54:08Speaker 1: If Jets fans listen to that whole podcast and A're wondering,
- 54:10Speaker 1: how in the world do we get out of this rut?
- 54:12Speaker 1: Getting at Jaden Daniels helps and Jaden was outstanding. That
- 54:15Speaker 1: was delivering results presented by Uber Ees, where you can
- 54:18Speaker 1: get the best deals on game day food all season long,
- 54:21Speaker 1: the official on demand delivery partner of the NFL.
- 54:24Speaker 5: Order.
- 54:24Speaker 1: Now, I want to thank all of you for listening
- 54:27Speaker 1: all this season. It's been a great one. Aaron wan
- 54:29Speaker 1: Kaufman amazing producer and great friend and co host when
- 54:33Speaker 1: needed popping in. He's behind the mic today or he's
- 54:36Speaker 1: behind the scenes today, but I always appreciate Aaron's work.
- 54:39Speaker 2: Jason English, who.
- 54:40Speaker 1: I think is as good of an executive at any
- 54:42Speaker 1: of these media companies. He's out of iHeart and shows
- 54:45Speaker 1: his face. He's present and he's always aware of what's
- 54:48Speaker 1: going on. And thank you to the NFL for the
- 54:49Speaker 1: opportunity to this podcast with them. We have a playoffs,
- 54:52Speaker 1: we have a super Bowl, and then we'll see from
- 54:54Speaker 1: there as we head.
- 54:55Speaker 2: Into draft time. But the next few weeks.
- 54:57Speaker 1: I know what you're listening for. You want coaching gossip.
- 54:59Speaker 1: You want news around the league, We'll try to give
- 55:01Speaker 1: you the best of it. Thanks for listening, everybody. Enjoy
- 55:03Speaker 1: your New Year's and Happy New Years if you turn
- 55:05Speaker 1: this on on Thursday or.
- 55:07Speaker 2: Over the weekend.
- 55:24Speaker 1: The Season with Peter Schrager is a production of the
