- 2:07love her from the Charleston Dirty Birds welcome her in here in just a moment.
- 2:09It's Eaton Douglas. Well eating, I'll just gould and say good morning.
- 2:13How are you? Good morning? I'm well, welcome to the show.
- 2:15Welcome to your first you've been on the show before this for your first
- 2:17time as a guest host. Yes, so we get to know Eaton Douglas
- 2:21a little bit, a little bit more and some things going on over the
- 2:23ballpark with the with the lights and all of a bunch. We're going to
- 2:27talk about that a little bit later on. Also coming up a little bit
- 2:30later, Jason Quindrell from the Union Mission is going to join us as well.
- 2:35Want to welcome in our good friend, though, Chris Lawrence, that's
- 2:37you. That'd be me. When I said good friend, Chris Lawrence talk
- 2:40high school football, how are you got? You guys went full blown Clark
- 2:44Griswold over the ballpark, Clark Griswold, and then some yeah. Yeah,
- 2:47it's like Clark Griswold on steroids. When I saw the picture, I thought,
- 2:52Holy cow, because I noticed they were out there hanging lights like right
- 2:55before trick or beat. You guys have been doing that since the last day
- 3:00of the season. As soon as our season is that it started. Yeah,
- 3:02it's amazing, it really is. I've never seen anything like that,
- 3:07Chris, Before I talk high school football. We do have a couple of
- 3:08quick news notes I want to get to. Of course, they're still trying
- 3:10to get people reconnected to the gas gas lines there in over on the west
- 3:16side. They have a number four us Off the top of your head,
- 3:19I mean, how many more more we got to? I think I heard
- 3:22carry throw out a number this morning. I mean they still got thes well
- 3:23over half that still have to Yeah, they there were eleven hundred roughly out
- 3:29originally. And we're talking customers, not people. This this is outlets,
- 3:32so and I think as of yesterday last update we got, they had three
- 3:37hundred and fifty restored, and they had about fifty more that they need to
- 3:42just do the inspection and then they'll be good. But they're still adhering to
- 3:45that middle of the next week before everything's back on. And you have to
- 3:47keep in mind it is eleven hundred customers, which is a household. I
- 3:52mean, if there's four in a household, you're looking at four or five
- 3:54thousand people here exactly. And we talked about that with mister scaff earlier.
- 4:00But you can't just it's not like the power where you just flip a switch.
- 4:01They literally have to go house to house and make sure they everything.
- 4:04And you want to do that because the last thing you want is to do
- 4:08something wrong and when you turn that on, you blow up a house or
- 4:10something. Yeah, that's yeah, I mean, because that's a very dangerous
- 4:14possibility, is it is. When you're dealing with gas, it kind of
- 4:15does its own thing sometimes. Also, there was a traffic situation this morning
- 4:19and it really wasn't effect in interstate traffic, but it's westbound off the Nitro
- 4:25exit. From what I understand, there was a truck that overturned, a
- 4:28paint truck that overturned. And is that exit that exit still closed. Yeah,
- 4:30it's going to be closed for several hours. Last update I had,
- 4:33they said several hours. There's a crew that was on its way from Louisville.
- 4:36I think they actually had arrived in the last hour and we're going to
- 4:41begin the cleanup. It was a semi, one of those tandem trailer semis,
- 4:46and it was hauling paint in one of the trailers and they had some
- 4:48kind of corrosive substance in the other they didn't really identify what it was.
- 4:53That corrosive substance thankfully did not leak, but the paint spilled and came out
- 4:58everywhere. So they were going and to have to clean that up and it's
- 5:00going to take several hours. The truck in the five o'clock hour was exiting
- 5:04going west, exiting at Nitro and lost control and went through that sort of
- 5:10median area if you're familiar with that exit, and when he flipped over,
- 5:14he was in the on ramp going the other way, and so they had
- 5:17closed down both the exit and the on ramp. They're at the Nitro westbound.
- 5:21It doesn't affect the other side of the interstate. The eastbounds fine,
- 5:27and like you said, the traffic itself in the interstate was not impacted,
- 5:30which that's already a mess with the bridge construction day is do you you know
- 5:35all about it? Let's talk about our high school football coverage. We got
- 5:39Winfield tonight and Hoover tomorrow. Two local teams still still in action at least
- 5:43two that they're in our coverage area, and that is Winfield and they are
- 5:46hosting the defending Double A state champion Independence Patriots. Tonight, we'll be on
- 5:51the air at seven o'clock with the COMACS pregame show. Kickoff is at seven
- 5:56point thirty at General Stadium, and then tomorrow afternoon, much like we did
- 6:00last week, we will have Herbert Hoover on the road. They're going back
- 6:03to Marion County taking on number one North Marion in Class Double A. This
- 6:08is a rematch these two teams played earlier this year. It was a pretty
- 6:11closely matched game. I think North Marion won it by a touchdown. So
- 6:16Hoover going up there to try to defeat the other Huskies in the state and
- 6:19see if they can continue on to Round three of the playoffs, the semifinals
- 6:25that will be next week. We'll bring you that coverage. Three point thirty
- 6:29will be on the air tomorrow we'll break into Mountaineer coverage, but just like
- 6:30we did last week, it'll be over on ESPN Radio if you want to
- 6:34continue to listen to Hopy in the Gang. And then once we are done,
- 6:39we'll just go right back to our metro news coverage of the Mountaineers,
- 6:42all right. Of course, Fred and Dave will be along after the game
- 6:45tonight with high school game night, Westerngin now doors tomorrow morning, dear season
- 6:47gets underway. I guess next week in wist f uXt season opens Monday morning
- 6:50at daylight. And I've just started doing this because it seems to be a
- 6:55popular thing to do. I got a couple of the Natural Resources Police officers.
- 6:59It'll be live in student with us this morning, and we will take
- 7:01questions. If you have a question about game, about game laws, about
- 7:05uh, you know, affecting deer season. They will be here and they
- 7:11will handle those questions and we can get you straightened out before opening day on
- 7:15Monday morning and perhaps save you a ticket and some headaches. All right,
- 7:18Chris will be listening tomorrow morning. You and the gang, have you got
- 7:21two more great games here? When Field to Height and Herbert Uver tomorrow we
- 7:26do and depending on if they win at advance will we will endeavor to bring
- 7:30you at least one of them next week. If they play at the same
- 7:33time, we can't bring you both of them. But we're good, but
- 7:35not that good. Yeah, Well, we got to figure out. We
- 7:38got to figure out if they first, they got to win, and then
- 7:40we'll figure out when they play, and then we'll let you know in the
- 7:42morning News Monday. All right, Chris, appreciate it man as always,
- 7:45thanks a lot, Chris Lawrence again for the news room, talking sports,
- 7:47talking outdoors, a little bit of everything. Getting a good feel this so
- 7:50far, and you see how it works here we have Friday. We just

- 8:30Please Pet of the Week from the Canals Charlestony Main Association. That's going to
- 8:33Angie Gillenwater, who's in for Hannah this morning. And Angie, good morning.
- 8:37How are you. I'm great, guys, I'm doing fine. I
- 8:41understand that our kid our kid, not our kid, but I call her
- 8:45the kid. Hannah is feeling a little bit under the weather today, so
- 8:48we will hope that to hope that she gets better soon. Yeah, she's
- 8:52she's basically lost her voice. So you can't really do the radio show with
- 8:54no voice. I tried it last year and it doesn't. It doesn't work,
- 9:00but I appreciate you. You stepping up to play My guest co host
- 9:03this week is Eden Douglas from The Dirty Bird. So you all make nice
- 9:07and say hello to each other. Hi, Angie Hello. We're actually our
- 9:11adoptions team at the shelter is planning to stop by and see the lights next
- 9:15week. Oh yay. You won't be disappointed. You will not. And
- 9:18we're going to talk about the lights coming up a little bit later on.
- 9:20I want to talk about Ricky Bobby though. That's our dot me. Please
- 9:24put it of the week. I get the picture posted as always on my
- 9:26social media. Dave alland Radio and The Dave Allen Show on x ART is
- 9:31formally known as Twitter. This is a great looking dog. In her description,
- 9:37Angie last night, Eden Hannah said to me, this may be the
- 9:43perfect dog. And I know there's no such thing as a perfect dog,
- 9:46but this one comes pretty dang close. Is that right? Yeah, Ricky
- 9:48Bobby comes very close. He's good with other pets, cats, doglike,
- 9:54he's good with kids, he's housebroken, he's great trained like, he checks
- 9:58every box. Any idea what kind of dog he is? West Virginia brown
- 10:03dog is our best bet. If we had to guess, he's probably a
- 10:09mixture of like lab and pity, just like every single dog that hits you.
- 10:15It seems that way. Now he's a big old boy too, so
- 10:18we want to make sure that whomever adopts and realizes he's going to need a
- 10:20lot of roun Yes, so he is a big dog. However, he
- 10:26is a senior dog as well. Okay, probably not going to be running
- 10:28any marathons in your yard. He's probably just gonna need a larger count to
- 10:31sleep. They I can relate. I can relate too. I mean,
- 10:37I know, like you have this dog, that Ricky Bobby, that we're
- 10:39talking about this morning, but we're becoming under cold weather now and you guys
- 10:43have a lot of animals in the shelter. Is there like anything that you
- 10:46guys are taking like blankets, and you guys are always accepting donations, but
- 10:50can you tell us more about how we can help Ricky Bobby get him adopted,
- 10:54but also support him while he's still there with you guys or the other
- 10:56others as well. Yeah, yeah, of course. So the biggest thing
- 11:01that people can do to support is definitely donate blanket, sheets, towels,
- 11:07food, toys, basically anything pet related we can find a use for.
- 11:11However, I understand things are tough right now for a lot of people,
- 11:16and it's starting to be that time of year, so donations are going to
- 11:20be a little bit harder to come by, and that's totally okay. Another
- 11:22big way that people can help us out is by just sharing the word and
- 11:26letting your friends, letting your family, letting anybody you come into contact with
- 11:31know that we're there, we're full, and we have so many animals that
- 11:35are looking to spend the holidays in a home and you know we're getting in
- 11:39as you kind of alluded to, Angie, we're getting into the Christmas season
- 11:43and people like to, you know, give pats sometimes as Christmas gifts.
- 11:46That's not always the best idea in the world because eventually, you know,
- 11:50the dog or cat is going to require you know, care just like they
- 11:54do. Yeah, but if you are thinking of getting a pet for a
- 12:00as a Christmas gift, you know, think long and hard about it,
- 12:01because Christmas is gonna go away, the lights are gonna go down, and
- 12:05you're gonna be you know, I don't want to say it stuck, but
- 12:07you're gonna have a pet to take care of before you go to a breeder.
- 12:09Though. Please, we implore if you please consider checking out one of
- 12:13the shelters. Yes, definitely, I would say, please please come check
- 12:18us out, come see who we have. We try to make our adoption
- 12:20process as easy and as welcoming and as pleasant as we possibly can. We
- 12:28have just about everything there, any type of coat, color, any type
- 12:31of behavior. We have dogs that get along with other animals, dogs that
- 12:35don't. So whatever you're looking for, we have it all right, Angie.
- 12:41As always, I appreciate you taking time out of your schedule. You
- 12:43folks do great work up there. You have a happy Thanksgiving and hopefully Hannah
- 12:46will get well soon. But you always do a great job too, so
- 12:50we appreciate you being here. Thanks a lot. Well, thank you you
- 12:52guys. To all right. Angie Gillawater again from the Kenal Trust Humane Association.
- 12:56Ricky Bobby is the dog's name. I should have probably never asked what
- 13:01the story. I mean, I know Ricky Bobby obviously from the movie,
- 13:03but I don't know if Ricky came in as Astray, if that was yeah,
- 13:07I'm not sure, But I say that I go through their Facebook and
- 13:11their website sometimes to look at some of the names that they have for these
- 13:15pets that are in there, and I just I want to know the background
- 13:16as to why they name those. Well. Sometimes I mean they show up
- 13:20and they don't have names. Sometimes they do. And if a dog is
- 13:22six years old, as Ricky Bobby is, he probably if he had that
- 13:26name going in, he probably knows that name now, so you're probably going
- 13:28to be stuck with that name. Ricky Bobby is six years old, seventy
- 13:33nine pounds of gentle giant is the way Hannah described him. He is housebroken,
- 13:37he is kid dog and cat friendly. Loves people. And again we
- 13:41all animals are awesome in my opinion, even the ones that aren't so much,
- 13:46but this one if you're looking for a pet. And again, he's
- 13:50a bigger guy, but he's an older guy too, so he's more interested
- 13:54in your couch than he is probably digging under your fence. So let's try
- 13:58to get this dog adopted. Pictures posted on Dave Allen Radio on Facebook and
- 14:03The Dave Allen Show on x yard is formerly known as Twitter. Ricky Bobby
- 14:07is our dog this week that we are trying to get adopted. It's nine

- 17:14from The Dirty Birds is my guest co host today. Hanging in there,
- 17:18kid, hanging in there? What time did you leave the ballpark last night?
- 17:19I actually left around eight o'clock really, so it wasn't too it.
- 17:22Yeah, but tonight I'm expecting to sail up a lot longer. And and
- 17:26you announced I was. I guess we were. I didn't know whether you're
- 17:30going to make this official or not. But you've got an announcement about your
- 17:32future and we're going to talk about that a little bit later on. But
- 17:33I want to bring in Jason Wuintrel, the CEO of the Union Mission of
- 17:37Charleston, Join us now, Jason, good morning. How are you,
- 17:40sir? I'm doing fine. Dave, how are you maybe pull that microphone
- 17:42up just a little bit there there there? That should be good. Now,
- 17:45we all know less than a week from Thanksgiving, most of us will
- 17:49settle down with friends and family for a home cooked meal, turkey dressing,
- 17:53football and everything goes along with Thanksgiving. But it's not the case for everyone.
- 17:59Yeah, So nine o'clock Thanksgiving morning, this is the twelfth annual Drumstick
- 18:03Dash, and man, it's become a pretty cool tradition for a lot of
- 18:10families from all over. Many families. This is kind of how they kick
- 18:14off their Thanksgiving tradition. Now, what is the drumstick Dash? So it's
- 18:18a five k starts there where we do live on the levee and goes down
- 18:22to the Capitol and back. It is legit the start place and the end
- 18:26place there. It is exactly the three point two whatever that may be.
- 18:30We have pretty serious runners that take take pride in this race and to say,
- 18:34don't look at me and want me to give you any specifics on me
- 18:38either on I'm like, okay, listen, this is my seventh one,
- 18:45and I get rassed every single year because I never run in it. I
- 18:51say, I say, if I'm only running if someone is chasing, that's
- 18:55what I'm still not. Probably not going to run that far. Yeah,
- 18:57well, somebody's got to hold the clipboard. Now, somebody's gonna do the
- 19:00logistics up there. If you are the main absolutely exactly exactly. I know
- 19:04how to get out of this, Yeah, I know how to do it.
- 19:07So this has been going on? How many years? This is twelve
- 19:08years? Okay, how do people get signed up for it? Well,
- 19:11registration ended yesterday, when kind of registration ended yesterday? However, please please
- 19:17don't let that stop you. You can come to our registration table morning of
- 19:22Thanksgiving. We'll be there starting at seven o'clock two hours before the race,
- 19:26and this happens every year. We have many people lined up to register Thanksgiving
- 19:30morning, So please don't let that stop you. Come on by, get
- 19:33involved in the race, have some fun, bring the families, bring the
- 19:37dogs. It's more of a family atmosphere. We have pumpkin pies along the
- 19:41way that are hidden that you can find, and that may hidden pie.
- 19:45You say, yeah, man, but it is still David still has not
- 19:48gotten me to run the five, not even not even the pie. No,
- 19:52I don't think it would make me either. Honestly, it's not fair
- 19:56trade off to me because I know at some point later in the I'm getting
- 20:00pumpkin pie. Anyway. Yeah, that's that's that's that's a fair point.
- 20:03Yeah. And so how long does it normally take to run this? I
- 20:07mean, so what time would it wrap up? So I guess events like
- 20:10who you are, we have some yeah eating and I would be like three
- 20:12days okay, Well I would be coming in about four or four and a
- 20:15half probably, but we have we have people that are back in five something.
- 20:19It's insane. Okay, maybe not five okay, So it's not going
- 20:23to take up the whole day or anything like that. I mean, you
- 20:26can still plan on being at home and enjoying enjoying your dinner and your football
- 20:30and whatever. Yeah, man, you I mean football is a huge part
- 20:33of things. I love the football part. You got to get to that.
- 20:34So it's three point two. You can walk it. And I don't
- 20:38know how many people. How many people do you normally have to take?
- 20:41You were from a thousand to twelve hundred to I think in some years past
- 20:48you've had up to fifteen hundred people. Okay, And I'm looking at the
- 20:51weather forecast right now because we're you know, we got rain in the forecast
- 20:53today and then there's going to be some heavy rain on Tuesday, but it's
- 20:56going to be cool on Thanksgiving Day. And at Spencer Adkins, of my
- 21:00folks in the weather business, I always say it can change. Can't accurately
- 21:03predict the weather more than forty eight hours in advance. However, looks like
- 21:07Thanksgiving is gonna be sunny. You're gonna be cool that morning. What time
- 21:11is it that you're starting again, Nine o'clock? Okay, so it's gonna
- 21:12be probably in the upper twenties to low thirties when you're starting just run faster.
- 21:17Well, that's what I was going to say. So it's those of
- 21:18us who are standing around watching who are actually suffering. We're suffering, suffering
- 21:23for everybody. Those of you that are running, you know you're gonna be
- 21:26warm, nice toasty, you get the sweat rolling a little bit. It's
- 21:30us that are watching that will be see exactly what else we got going on
- 21:33for the Union mission during a Christmas Man. We start today at two o'clock
- 21:37at the Arts and Crafts Show. If you are planning to go to the
- 21:42Arts and Craft Show at the Civic Center starting today at two o'clock, we're
- 21:47gonna have a truck out front, and if you bring some non perishable items
- 21:52and food box food things like that, you will get some money off of
- 21:56that ticket. So you come to our truck, we'll give you a ticket
- 22:00to show at the counter, and they'll give you a certain amount of money
- 22:03off of your entry into the Arts and Crafts Show. A pretty good deal.
- 22:07And we certainly need the food because there are i mean today's economy man,
- 22:11those that are working are struggling with the price of groceries as such,
- 22:15I mean, the need just keeps going up, and we're trying to meet
- 22:18that need and it's getting tougher and tougher, so we really need your help.
- 22:19Yeah, so and the art and I actually had the gentleman John from
- 22:23the Arts and Crafts Deal on last week on last Friday show, and he
- 22:29talked about that. We gave away tickets to that on the air the other
- 22:30stations in the ability and give it away tickets all week to That's a that's
- 22:33a pretty big deal. Even if you ever had a chance to go to
- 22:36that. If not, you really should check it out. Everyone talks about
- 22:37how awesome it is. It is. I might have to check it out.
- 22:40Yeah, they bring some food and pick up a couple of cans of
- 22:42cream corpts. I get it. I mean, like off of what you
- 22:45said, I mean, today's economy is crazy and there's so many people that
- 22:48are struggling and it's like some of my friends and my family that I see
- 22:52and it's so definitely highly recommend you know, bringing some food items and it's
- 22:56great that you guys help out the way. You guys do appreciate that.
- 23:00It's I mean, it's hard working families that are working and still looking to
- 23:04Okay, maybe we're going to have to cut back on Thanksgiving this year.
- 23:07Man, I remember growing up. I'm from Saint Albans and man, yeah,
- 23:12great memories of family and all the food and the spread. It kind
- 23:15of breaks my heart. Thanksgiving and Christmas. People may be struggling at right
- 23:19yeah. And again we always say it's a Friday is a politics free zone,
- 23:25so I'm not going to get into all that. But regardless of who's
- 23:27in the White House, not getting into all that, people are struggling right
- 23:32now. Yea. And you can sjointla, you can point fingers wherever you
- 23:33want. People are struggling right now. The prices are, although some have
- 23:37gone down, are insane. You know. We just did our turkey drop
- 23:41out here yesterday, and by the way, thanks to everybody to help them.
- 23:44We'll talk about that a little bit later on to help pull that off,
- 23:47but I appreciate everybody for helping out with that. But the turkey is
- 23:49kind of like, you know, a whole lot more expensive, they say,
- 23:52than what it used to be in the past. So we just bought
- 23:53five hundred of them, wow, about two three weeks ago. And for
- 23:59our Thanksgiving. Your cotribution is excuse me, Saturday this Saturday, as well,
- 24:03the eighteenth and man four hundred and fifty families are coming through that distribution,
- 24:10So talk about that. How does the distribution work? I mean,
- 24:11how do they have to be approved? They sign up? How does that
- 24:15work? Yeah, so they actually come in. We have a volunteer's office
- 24:18set up on our first floor in our admin building, and so for the
- 24:21last month we've had people coming through and signing up. We take their id,
- 24:26take we have some questions we asked as far as meeting the criteria,
- 24:30and we give them a ticket and then they show up Saturday morning and stay
- 24:37in their cars. We go around and talk to these folks. We have
- 24:41Bible Center folks. They show up and they do an awesome job. By
- 24:45the way. They counsel with these folks a little bit, pray with them
- 24:48if they want it, and then we we fill them up with a fifteen
- 24:53pound turkey, six to twelve cans of food, two boxes of stuffing,
- 25:00two boxes of mac and cheese, and drinks PEPSI donated skids of of drinks
- 25:07to give out. Pretty good. That's good stuff. I mean, it
- 25:10really really is to have people that come to in and you can't pull off
- 25:12an event like that. Without a lot of volunteers, but also about a
- 25:17lot of corporate folks stepping up and donating products and and and and time and
- 25:21things of that nature. All right, Uh so somebody just texted me said
- 25:25five k is three point one miles, so you got three point two.
- 25:30Who ever sent that in, Thank you so much, Thank you so much.
- 25:32All right, let's go back to uh the uh drumstick dash again time
- 25:36place. And you said registration has ended ended yesterday. That's online registration,
- 25:41right, but please don't let that stop you again. Come early. We
- 25:47start at nine Thanksgiving morning. We are right there at uh down where they
- 25:52do live at the levee and uh they start places there. They go down
- 25:57to the Capitol and back and so it's really not three point one miles.
- 26:02It's not that not that far. But man, you can you can come
- 26:06down to a registration table that morning. We'll get you signed up, We'll
- 26:10get you everything you need. They take it serious. They give that that
- 26:14number badge thing where it's got the electronics stuff for their times and and and
- 26:18all of that. I've always wondered every year why I always get triple zero,
- 26:22But now now I know why. Yeah, there you go. Because
- 26:25I'm always probably I'm just standing there watching. But but anyway, yeah,
- 26:29it's it's just a fun event, you know, it's it's gonna be great.
- 26:33And again, I appreciate you taking time out of your schedule. It's
- 26:37Jason Wuitdrell again, the CEO of Union Mission, Charleston. Thank you so

- 29:49House. I did want to again take time out to thank everybody who came
- 29:53out for the first ever w VRC Media Turkey Drop yesterday. We collected a
- 29:57whole lot eating of frozen turkeys and cash to be given away to those in
- 30:03need this holiday season. The folks of big Ley Pigley Wiggily teamed up with
- 30:06us from day one. This is all kind of the brainchild of Rob Real,
- 30:08who does our morning show on her sister station, ninety six to one
- 30:11k WS. And Rob had seen this done, as he talked about on
- 30:15the show yesterday, and he had seen this done in other areas, other
- 30:18stations and other places that he's been and kind of playing off of the name
- 30:22Turkey Drop from w k RP in Cincinnati, which I know you don't remember
- 30:26that, but the whole reason I got into radio was because of that show.
- 30:30But big Lely Pickley Wiggily was awesome to team up with Chick fil A
- 30:34of South Charleston South Ridge. They set us up eating with these gift cards.
- 30:37So the first five hundred people that came through with a donation of either
- 30:41a frozen turkey or cash, they got free breakfast from Chick fil A.
- 30:45So we we ran out of those. So thanks to Tom Mentor and the
- 30:51and the folks for making that all possible. And for the first time we
- 30:53ever did it, we did pretty darn good. I'm not gonna lie to
- 30:56you, and it's all well, and it's all because of our listeners.
- 30:59I mean you know, we can we can run this stuff. We could
- 31:00talk about it on the air, but until the listeners of all of our
- 31:03stations here I mentioned, you know, ninety six one KWS and all of
- 31:07the stations that are in the building, they're the ones that come through.
- 31:10All we did was stand out there and collect it. They're the ones that
- 31:12actually came through. So we appreciate greatest listeners in the world we have here
- 31:17at the Station's the WVRC Media Charles and A right Een Douglas is here from
- 31:19The Dirty Dirty Birds. You've been on this show a lot of times in
- 31:23the past. You may be approaching Hall of Fame status as far as the
- 31:27number of appearances on the show. Well, I mean it's been You've been
- 31:32on a lot, but you've never been on as a Friday co host.
- 31:36And you're leaving us. You're leaving the Dirty Birds. You announced it.
- 31:38I already knew about it, but you announced it on social media. You're
- 31:41leaving the Dirty Birds. Well, yeah, today is officially my last day
- 31:45with the Dirty Birds. It's a little bittersweet. I mean I started there
- 31:48in twenty nineteen, so I've been there for four years. Even whenever the
- 31:52season was canceled with COVID, I was kind of still they're still hanging in
- 31:56there, so yeah, yeah, it's weird. I haven't really it hasn't
- 32:00really like said in yet that you know, this is my last day and
- 32:06I won't be involved anymore, because that's all I've ever known, kind of
- 32:07like after I graduated high school, I was in college for a semester and
- 32:12then I got an internship there, So it is kind of like since I
- 32:16left high school at the Charleston Dirty Birds, it's like all I've ever known.
- 32:20So it's definitely interesting. Well, you know, I think I can
- 32:23speak on behalf of all of the all of the of the Canal Valley here
- 32:27and our listeners that you've been in absolute joy, you know to work with.
- 32:30We endured the name change, yeah, the moving to cash lists,
- 32:34which you know we thought was going to be the be all end all and
- 32:37turned out not to be the the changing the name of the ballpark, bringing
- 32:42the Savannah Bananas to town, the Down and Dirty festival, so much.
- 32:45You've done a lot of stuff that didn't always involve at nine innings of baseball.
- 32:51Yeah yeah, and then on top of the nine innings with baseball,
- 32:53I was the one field host in MC. I was producing all of those
- 32:57shows, so every show, sixty six games we went through this season and
- 33:02last year whenever I was with Lindsay we did all of those games as well.
- 33:06So it's like, we've got a lot of baseball, but there are
- 33:09a lot of extra things that go into it that a lot of people don't
- 33:14realize. Yeah, they don't see that. So what are you going to
- 33:15be doing. I'm going to be teaching full time. I decided to get
- 33:21take a break from the sports chaos for a little bit because it is a
- 33:24lot it's it's a lot of hours and a lot of there is you and
- 33:29I talked about this during the break. That's what it's kind of like it
- 33:31is when you do radio full time too. There's a trade off for having
- 33:35a quote unquote fun job because you see what you do on the field with
- 33:37the MC work, and you see the promotions, and you think, man,
- 33:40that that that's got to be a fun job. Well, they don't
- 33:43see. I mean you're spending you know, some days you and the others
- 33:46not just you at the ball We're spending fourteen hours a day at that that
- 33:49ballpark. I mean, like when we would have camps and stuff, we
- 33:52were there. Registration started at eight. We needed to be there at six
- 33:54thirty or seven to make sure everything was set up, and then if we
- 33:59have a game that night, we're not leaving until all the fans are out,
- 34:00everything's cleaned up, we've got everything set to go for the next day.
- 34:05So like sometimes we're there from seven am until midnight or one am,
- 34:08just making sure everything's up and run. It's not just me, it's half
- 34:12the staff because we want to make sure that everything is right and it's the
- 34:15best experience it can be for people who are first timers or are coming back
- 34:19again. So it's a lot and we're doing it again. So this is
- 34:22kind of like this Light the Night we're they're calling it like our second season
- 34:28because we have sixty six home games or sixty three, I don't remember the
- 34:30exact number this year, and now we've got forty four nights of Light the
- 34:35Night. But in season we have some breaks because where the team goes out
- 34:38of town, we don't have no breaks with Light the Night. So it
- 34:42is forty four days straight of Christmas and you did a lot of work,
- 34:46you and the team to put this thing together. I have not seen it.
- 34:50I've only seen the pictures. I know I was there. Was a
- 34:52lady in the building. Didn't even catch her name, but she was here
- 34:55on an appointment to see somebody else, and she was talking about going her
- 35:00and her family. We've got tickets for Thursday night. Steve Animal from our
- 35:01sister station, The Mountain ninety eighty seven, was there a couple of nights
- 35:06ago. We posted pictures of his visit there on the on the Mountain Facebook
- 35:08page. This is quite impressive. I mean, how does this whole idea
- 35:13come about to do this? So we our owner, Andy Shea, is
- 35:16friends with the people who own the team in Florence, Kentucky, the Florence
- 35:21y'alls And wait minute, the Florence y'awls. Yeah, that is their name.
- 35:23Why a l S y A ll s. I love Minor League Baseball
- 35:28Florence y'alls. Yeah, it's really fun and like their water tower in downtown
- 35:31Florence just has yealls written really love. Yeah. So he's friends with them
- 35:37and they do it every year and it's a really big deal. There's not
- 35:42like Florence isn't very popular or anything, but people drive to see that,
- 35:46so Andy wanted to bring something like that here and we have the Holly Jolly
- 35:51Brawley, but we also wanted to you know, incorporate something with that too,
- 35:54so we have that. So he partnered with them. And then there's
- 35:58another company out of tech sugar Land, Texas, sugar Land Space Cowboys.
- 36:02That's their team name it Love It, which is one of my favorites.
- 36:07They do it as well, so we decided to bring it here. The
- 36:09Florence guys helped. The company that runs it are based out of Texas,
- 36:14and they brought everything in and kind of laid everything out and we wrapped lights
- 36:17individually. So the day the season ended, like literally the day the season
- 36:22ended is when we started wrapping those lights around the ballpark. So it has
- 36:27been a lot of work. But it's last night. We had a little
- 36:30soft opening and it was unreal to see it all pay off. So what
- 36:34are people going to see? I mean, what are some of the highlights
- 36:37and people come out for this? Oh gosh, there's two million lights.
- 36:40I do know that there's two million lights. Two million lights total, I
- 36:45want to say maybe thirteen to sixteen like themed areas, so there's like a
- 36:51walking path on the field. So when you're in the walking path on the
- 36:53field, there's different themed areas and sectioned off and stuff. There's a light
- 36:58maze that you have to go through, and I promise it's not as hard
- 37:00as you think it will be because we did get lost one time, but
- 37:05it's not that bad. The tree there's a sixty foot Christmas tree that's sitting
- 37:09on second base that is everything squreographed to music too, So like you're walking
- 37:15through this maze and like seeing all these lights, but then you look at
- 37:17our stadium seats. Every single seat is wrapped with Christmas lights and it all
- 37:22goes to music. So it's crazy. There's Quantum Sports was so generous to
- 37:29bring a Ferris wheel, bungee jumps, power sALS. Yes, there is
- 37:34a Faerris wheel, like and we wrote it last night. And when you're
- 37:37at the top, the overlook of the field is unreal, Like it is
- 37:40just it's mind blowing, you know, like you see Christmas lights all the
- 37:45time, but like seeing something like that in one area, especially on a
- 37:49baseball field like that, that's pretty cool. And it's actually so I guess
- 37:53they had the like the kind of the soft oad opening or something, so
- 37:57it is tonight, like the official today is opening night or tonight is opening
- 38:01night. Sorry tonight, that's a very day thing to say out there.
- 38:05So it's it's to night at what time? Five o'clock? Okay? And
- 38:08now I have a couple off dates here. They're not doing it. I
- 38:12think on November the twentieth, twenty seventh, and December second. That's what
- 38:15I happen to. That's fourth. Like a few mondays I think are thrown
- 38:19in there. But if you go to the website, it's a dB Light
- 38:22the Night okay dot com. They're everything anything, anything, any questions,
- 38:27including tickets. Do you need to get tickets in advance? You don't have
- 38:30to. Our box office will be open so you can buy tickets there.
- 38:34But if you get online, you can also do this in person, but
- 38:36it's a lot easier to do it online. We're often offering family of four
- 38:39packs for season passes, so it's like sixty two dollars for all forty four
- 38:45nights per person, so it's like a family of four pack. Individual season
- 38:50passes are like one hundred dollars, so that's an option too, and that
- 38:53includes some things with the light displays, we've got a Christmas village that's set
- 38:58up on left field. There's Tracey White has been awesome at getting vendors set
- 39:02up. So there's a bunch of those that are happening each week. It's
- 39:06going to be some of the same ones, but also some new ones.
- 39:07I believe the week of the sixteenth, there's like eight vendors that are So
- 39:10if somebody goes let's say, you know, Thanksgiving night or the night or
- 39:14whatever, that shouldn't be their only time that they go. Because if they
- 39:17come back and let's say I'm picking random dates here, but let's say they
- 39:21come back December twentieth, they're going to see something totally different that they didn't
- 39:23see the first time. R Yeah, yeah, like last night even that
- 39:27just the lights themselves. Last night we were walking through the maze and I
- 39:30was like, that's the third time I had done it, but I was
- 39:31seeing new things every time I was going through it, Like there is just
- 39:36so much. You need to come more than one time to really take it
- 39:38all in and to really experience it, because the first time it's going to
- 39:42be like an adrenaline rush. I kind of because when I went on Tuesday
- 39:45night and saw it all, I was like, oh my gosh, like
- 39:49and just couldn't around everything. Charleston has literally never seen anything like that.
- 39:52No, I mean it's I mean, and you mentioned Holly Jolly Brawley,
- 39:57and I had Morgan and Kevin on for the Downtown Charleston's seation. They're actually
- 40:00gonna be back on the show again on Monday. We're kind of tying this
- 40:02whole thing and together. This is not like competing entities here because as matter
- 40:06of fact, there is going to be wait for it, the Holly Jolly
- 40:09Bradley trolley by Golly that is going to take people around if they choose to
- 40:16do that to all these different things. And it starts at Slack and then
- 40:20goes to the Lee Street or something like that, and then we'll go to

- 40:37It's it's it's what is modern day astrog Yeah, it's just not the same
- 40:43as it was in the seventies. No more dirt and grass like we're used
- 40:46to. It is synthetic turf, which makes all this happen. Yeah,
- 40:52you do this before. I mean, there's an ice rink on the field.
- 40:55You can scace skate outside like it's amazing. On that move before we

- 43:24Yeah, you will make me cry. I don't want to do that.
- 43:28That's the whole concept. I haven't cried yet, like I thought where
- 43:31I've like poured literally my heart into that place for so long. I thought
- 43:36that it was like I was going to start crying already, and I haven't.
- 43:37I feel like I'm going to get home to night. You got me
- 43:39like you got ten minutes because Fred's and Fred not are going to make you

- 47:29talk about that, that's amazing. Fred Albert is here as a surprise to
- 47:34the guests, time to play ten questions. Each week I bring my special

- 47:40at random questions. You have not seen the questions, Please verify you've not
- 47:44seen the questions. Not seen them. These questions are carefully and secretly compiled
- 47:46at a lab somewhere near second base and the outfield foul poll. Eaton Douglas.
- 47:52Are you ready to play ten questions? Sure? All right? As
- 47:53always, remember we're trained professionals. Please do not try this at home,
- 47:57and there's always no way dream. All right, we're ready. What is
- 48:00the story behind your parents name and you Eden? So it's obviously the book
- 48:06in the Bible, or it's the Garden of Eated. Sorry, not a
- 48:08book in the Bible. You may be nervous with this. It's the Garden
- 48:14of Eden. But actually my mom said one time there was a TV show
- 48:16back in the day and there was a couple and the girl's name was Eden,
- 48:20so that was one of the main reasons. But also the Garden of
- 48:22Eden. But that's not my first name. It's not that is not Her
- 48:27first name is Lois yep Lois. Okay, yeah, I've learned something today
- 48:31and he remembered that he did. All right, sure, all right?
- 48:35What's your favorite cereal cinnamon toast crunch? You're driving across the country. Who's
- 48:39the one person who you would normally love to be around, but don't think
- 48:44you could travel across the country with them? My boyfriend ex boyfriend? Now
- 48:51I love other than lettuce or dressing. When you're at a salad bar,
- 48:55what's the one thing that's guaranteed to be on your plate other than let us,
- 48:59you're bacon bacon bits? Yeah, my girl? Your favorite sports team
- 49:04other than the Dirty Birds, the Westernia Mountaineers, and the Atlanta Braves.
- 49:08All right, what's your favorite subject in school? What was it? English?
- 49:13Right? Sorry, sorry, mister Albert. Uh. My favorite movie
- 49:15growing up as a kid was Oh, my gosh, what was it?
- 49:21It's very Oh, Where the Heart Is? It's a Hallmark movie. It's
- 49:24Natalie Portman. It's so old that it is my favorite movie of all time.
- 49:29It's not childhood, but that's what That's My favorite fast food guilty pleasure
- 49:32is the Biggie Bags from Wendy's. The cartoon character that's most like me.
- 49:40Oh, I don't know. I didn't really watch cartoons and I still don't.
- 49:46Yeah, okay, I don't really know about I don't know. It's
- 49:50an acceptable answer that I can see any musical performer out there, regardless of
- 49:54cost, venue whatever. Who is it, not Taylor Swift, not anybody,
- 50:06doesn't matter the cost the venue, were going to fly you there.
- 50:07I mean, Fred's gonna drive you. I really want to see Morgan Wallin.
- 50:10But that's such a basic answer answer, all right, all right,
- 50:16all right, Fred, what would your be? You're done with ten questions?
- 50:19By the way, Fred, I'll ask you what Holly, pardon Dolly?
- 50:22That wouldn't that's a good one. I saw her and I did see
- 50:25her when she came to Charles. Okay, all right, well you've completed
- 50:29ten questions. See that wasn't too difficult. I was all right. I
- 50:31got a couple of more minutes left, Fred, Albert is here. Uh
- 50:34and uh Eden. He is going to be leaving the dirty Birds, but
- 50:37you are going to bigger and better things. What did you see in her,
- 50:39Fred that you said it? Or did you see anything in her that
- 50:43said? You know what? I think? I think I think she'd be
- 50:44a good teacher because I told you didn't know that, and I told you
- 50:46that on the poat and you said, I could so see that. I
- 50:49could see it because she has compassion. She's passionate about whatever she does,
- 50:53but she has she has compassion, and you need that in this in this
- 50:58profession, you need to be compassion because she's going to have all types of
- 51:01children in her charge. And I just she's kind, she's serious about what
- 51:07she does. Watching the tears, what's the tears. I'm the one who's
- 51:10going to start crying here. But but I would say that when you see
- 51:15that your students grow up and do these things, it makes you feel happy.
- 51:20Oh it does. And you know there's several on my list of former
- 51:22students who are teachers, and it does make you feel like, well,
- 51:27I didn't hurt them any maybe help them and they are successful. Teaching is
- 51:31a calling, but especially the type teaching that you are going to be doing
- 51:35with these autistic kids, that's even maybe a greater calling. Now that's not
- 51:38the word I'm looking for, but I mean that's a special kind of calling.
- 51:42It is, but not because not everyone has the ability or the compassion
- 51:46to take special needs students and that is a special calling. I do believe
- 51:52teaching the best profession because we make all other professions possible. But to do
- 51:59what Eden's going to do, I mean what she's already done, what she's
- 52:01already accomplished. I'm very proud of her. I'm sure her family's proud of
- 52:07her. But she's gonna do great things. All right? Are we crying
- 52:09yet? No? But I might when I leave you, all right,
- 52:14give me twenty seconds on and light up the night. Oh, visit dblightthanight

- 52:31Everything's been a pleasure to work for you, friend, Thank you for coming
