- 0:40Speaker 3: It is the Zone eleven fifty ninety three point seven FM. Normally,
- 0:46Speaker 3: Will and Ryan will is not here, as you may remember,
- 0:48Speaker 3: he did announce last week that he would not be
- 0:51Speaker 3: joining us for this week. If I could queue up
- 0:54Speaker 3: the sound of a sad audience, I would, But we
- 0:56Speaker 3: do have Caleb in here in the studio to fill
- 0:58Speaker 3: in as he's so kindly is willing to do.
- 1:01Speaker 4: I absolutely love to fill in on sports talk, you know,
- 1:03Speaker 4: I get to listen to Chip on sports talk every day,
- 1:07Speaker 4: but I like to talk a little bit too.
- 1:08Speaker 3: Yeah, so this is this is the baby show because
- 1:10Speaker 3: Will is not here.
- 1:11Speaker 4: So I think most of Chip's listeners think that your
- 1:14Speaker 4: legal name is young Ryan.
- 1:16Speaker 3: You know what it might be. It might be at
- 1:18Speaker 3: this point, and you know what I would, I would
- 1:20Speaker 3: wear that with a badge of honor.
- 1:21Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:22Speaker 3: But yeah, it's Friday. We made it to the end
- 1:25Speaker 3: of another work week. We got a big A and
- 1:28Speaker 3: M game tomorrow, which we will definitely get into, definitely
- 1:31Speaker 3: talk about on the road. So that's gonna be fun.
- 1:35Speaker 3: It's a night game. Hopefully we don't have any weather
- 1:38Speaker 3: issues with it this week. I know that was a
- 1:39Speaker 3: thing last week with the Arkansas game. Here, the weather's
- 1:41Speaker 3: gonna be nasty, but hoping, hoping not during the game.
- 1:45Speaker 4: I think it's gonna be a little rainy in Baton Rouge,
- 1:47Speaker 4: but I don't know if their thunderstorms are gonna be
- 1:49Speaker 4: as bad as ours. Yeah, so it should be fine.
- 1:51Speaker 3: I saw it's supposed to be like nasty here they're
- 1:53Speaker 3: talking about tonight, like I think, yeah, oh, was there
- 1:56Speaker 3: a floodwatch?
- 1:56Speaker 5: Now.
- 1:56Speaker 3: I've been locked up in that production studio all day.
- 1:58Speaker 3: I haven't seen what's going on in the outdoor world. Yeah,
- 2:02Speaker 3: just caved away in there. But yeah, we are, We're here,
- 2:05Speaker 3: We're ready to go, We're ready for a week. Are
- 2:07Speaker 3: you going to the game?
- 2:08Speaker 4: I'm not. I went to Arkansas, That's what I was
- 2:10Speaker 4: gonna ask because I saw my college bank account does
- 2:14Speaker 4: not have enough funds to go to back to back
- 2:17Speaker 4: road games.
- 2:17Speaker 3: Say no more, dude, I totally understand. But it looked
- 2:20Speaker 3: like a lot of fun. Were there a lot of
- 2:21Speaker 3: A and M fans there for that game?
- 2:23Speaker 4: Yeah, I'd say probably right around a third of the
- 2:25Speaker 4: fans in there were A and M fans. I mean, okay,
- 2:27Speaker 4: everywhere you looked, you saw some A and M. And
- 2:30Speaker 4: then my section was right behind the Aggie band, so
- 2:33Speaker 4: that was pretty much full of eggies, which was really
- 2:35Speaker 4: cool to see. Even had the yell leaders down there.
- 2:38Speaker 4: And that was my first road A and M game,
- 2:39Speaker 4: So it's pretty cool experience.
- 2:41Speaker 3: Oh really, your first one?
- 2:42Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 2:42Speaker 3: Now, had they had they already let you guys into
- 2:44Speaker 3: the studio before by the time, because they announced the
- 2:46Speaker 3: delay pretty pretty early on in the.
- 2:48Speaker 4: Yeah, they announced to Dela we were still on the
- 2:51Speaker 4: way because we let really early Saturday morning, we didn't
- 2:54Speaker 4: go down there on Friday because I was here, right, Yeah,
- 2:57Speaker 4: so yeah, we got down there probably around and I
- 3:01Speaker 4: think they announced it like eleven thirty or something. So
- 3:03Speaker 4: we were just hanging out in a steak and shake.
- 3:05Speaker 3: Okay. Yeah, I was gonna ask, like explore Fayetteville a
- 3:08Speaker 3: little bit.
- 3:08Speaker 4: Or just get to watch some college football. Okay, nice, nice,
- 3:11Speaker 4: pretty good afternoon.
- 3:12Speaker 3: Well it looks yeah, it looked like it was a
- 3:14Speaker 3: fun trip overall. I mean the game.
- 3:16Speaker 4: It's really beautiful up there in northwest Arkansas, and I'm
- 3:18Speaker 4: glad it ended up being a night game because the
- 3:20Speaker 4: atmosphere was really oh yeah, the start of it, but
- 3:23Speaker 4: once we got to about pretty much the start of
- 3:25Speaker 4: the second half on, it was a great atmosphere.
- 3:27Speaker 3: That's awesome, dude. I would love to go to a
- 3:29Speaker 3: road game. I mean an A and M road game, obviously,
- 3:32Speaker 3: but any like road game for a team I root for,
- 3:34Speaker 3: because that's always been something that's like on my list
- 3:36Speaker 3: of things to do and I've never done it before.
- 3:38Speaker 3: And I'm a Houston fan, so I could go to.
- 3:40Speaker 4: Yeah, you can go to Baylor TC, you know Texas Tech.
- 3:43Speaker 3: Going idea is I will they can't do that anymore.
- 3:48Speaker 4: Well you can, though, Yeah, I would not like to
- 3:51Speaker 4: leave that stadium with a black eye.
- 3:53Speaker 3: But no, Louie. Louie swears that I should never ever
- 3:56Speaker 3: go to Waco or Lubbock.
- 3:57Speaker 4: That's probably true.
- 3:58Speaker 3: He he will say the worst things about those two towns,
- 4:02Speaker 3: and I kind of believe him. But I've I've never
- 4:04Speaker 3: been for myself. I've never I've driven around Lubbock. When
- 4:07Speaker 3: I took my vacation to Colorado over the summer, we
- 4:11Speaker 3: drove not through Lubbock. They have like a little loop
- 4:13Speaker 3: that kind of goes around the outside, and so we
- 4:15Speaker 3: drove around that and went by Lubbock, but not through Lubbock.
- 4:18Speaker 3: And then I want to say, I've been through Waco before,
- 4:22Speaker 3: but a really long time ago, So I would I
- 4:24Speaker 3: would like to see for myself, just to explore the place,
- 4:27Speaker 3: even though Louis swears that I should never go, and
- 4:29Speaker 3: I may not make it out alive for whatever reason.
- 4:32Speaker 3: So maybe that's something I'll cross off on my list
- 4:34Speaker 3: pretty soon.
- 4:35Speaker 4: We'll see.
- 4:36Speaker 3: But outside of that, got some fun stuff to talk
- 4:40Speaker 3: about on the show today. Obviously, I was saying we're
- 4:42Speaker 3: gonna get into that A and M game did you
- 4:44Speaker 3: see all the stuff that happened in the NBA yesterday.
- 4:48Speaker 4: I have a stack of papers.
- 4:49Speaker 3: DD, so do I. We're gonna, okay, we'll we'll dive
- 4:51Speaker 3: into that a little bit later, but that's definitely something
- 4:54Speaker 3: I want to hit on a little bit. I guess
- 4:57Speaker 3: I can complain about the Texans again because here I
- 4:59Speaker 3: was thinking that maybe they had discovered something against Baltimore,
- 5:01Speaker 3: and then I realized that Baltimore just really was that bad.
- 5:04Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, it's kind of crazy. The fall off of
- 5:07Speaker 4: the Ravens has been pretty wild this year, which I
- 5:09Speaker 4: mean part of that is not having Lamar, but still
- 5:13Speaker 4: I think they could do better than no wins without them.
- 5:17Speaker 3: I mean, part of that is not having Lamar, But
- 5:18Speaker 3: every time somebody says that, I'm like, Okay, well, Lamar
- 5:20Speaker 3: didn't make that defense garbage. Like Lamar didn't allow us
- 5:23Speaker 3: to score however many touchdowns on them. So that was
- 5:28Speaker 3: a tough tough pill to swallow, especially with it being
- 5:30Speaker 3: a Monday night game that kicked off at nine o'clock
- 5:33Speaker 3: and ended at like twelve thirty in the morning, and
- 5:35Speaker 3: I had to sit through that on a worked night.
- 5:37Speaker 4: Pretty tough.
- 5:38Speaker 3: Talk about being sleep deprived and miserable the next day.
- 5:42Speaker 4: That that is Monday night football that late is pretty brutal.
- 5:47Speaker 3: Like who's got I get it was a West Coast game,
- 5:49Speaker 3: so it was seven o'clock local time kickoff. But I mean,
- 5:51Speaker 3: come on, dude.
- 5:53Speaker 4: I don't so is this the first year they've been
- 5:55Speaker 4: doing the double Monday night game.
- 5:57Speaker 3: No, they've been doing the Double Hunters for a couple
- 5:58Speaker 3: of years now, but I don't know if they've done
- 6:00Speaker 3: the night Maybe they have, and it's just never been
- 6:02Speaker 3: my team. I don't think it's usually that late though,
- 6:04Speaker 3: because I mean, and we're Central time teams. So imagine
- 6:07Speaker 3: if it's an East Coast time team going out there
- 6:10Speaker 3: and their local kickoff is ten o'clock and they're watching this.
- 6:13Speaker 4: Game, your baseball fan, that happened, you know every other night. Yeah,
- 6:17Speaker 4: well not in there pitchclock. Now, maybe we get some realignment.
- 6:20Speaker 3: At least, or at least those games are shorter, is
- 6:22Speaker 3: what I'm trying to say there.
- 6:23Speaker 4: But yeah, yeah that's true, but they still start at ten.
- 6:25Speaker 3: Sometimes, Yes, yes they do those West Coast games do.
- 6:28Speaker 3: I have such good memories of yea listening to the
- 6:30Speaker 3: Astros play Seattle, like one thirty in the morning.
- 6:33Speaker 4: Midnight baseball is a lot of fun. While we're on NFL.
- 6:36Speaker 4: Did you see the fines getting handed down to the Giants.
- 6:39Speaker 4: I did not hold concussion protocol thing. So it was
- 6:43Speaker 4: week six when the Giants played the Eagles and got
- 6:47Speaker 4: that win, and Jackson Dart went under the tent for
- 6:50Speaker 4: a very short amount of time and Brian day Ball
- 6:52Speaker 4: went in there and screamed at the doctor and got
- 6:54Speaker 4: them back out there. So right, the Giants were assessed
- 6:57Speaker 4: to two hundred thousand dollars fine. This is all for me.
- 6:59Speaker 4: Is end two hundred thousand dollars fine to the team
- 7:03Speaker 4: for violating protocol, one hundred thousand dollars fine to day Ball,
- 7:07Speaker 4: the head coach, and Cam Skataboo, who also went into
- 7:10Speaker 4: the tent got a fifteen thousand dollars fine for conduct
- 7:16Speaker 4: detrimental to the league. Oh so, I mean it was
- 7:22Speaker 4: a pretty tough hit that Dart took on that sack,
- 7:27Speaker 4: And immediately on social media there were people that were
- 7:31Speaker 4: just like, yeah, Brian day Ball knew that he was
- 7:32Speaker 4: screwed if he didn't have Dart out there. Yeah, right
- 7:35Speaker 4: out there and paid off the medical staff. I'm not
- 7:37Speaker 4: saying that happened. But yeah, it's a concussion protocol is something.
- 7:44Speaker 4: It's you know, it's pretty serious. You know, you don't
- 7:47Speaker 4: want i mean brain interest or something. Happened all the
- 7:49Speaker 4: time in the NFL.
- 7:50Speaker 3: And you've seen, especially in this day, where they do
- 7:53Speaker 3: the you know, autopsies or whatever of players after they
- 7:55Speaker 3: they passed and they find the CTE and all these
- 7:58Speaker 3: players' brains like it is a very serious things.
- 8:00Speaker 4: So I'm glad that they're taking it seriously.
- 8:02Speaker 3: Sure, but it's kind of it's kind of impossible to
- 8:06Speaker 3: prevent in its entirety. I mean, yes, there's steps you
- 8:09Speaker 3: can do to mitigate that risk, but NFL player, at
- 8:13Speaker 3: least with the current maybe fifty years from now they'll
- 8:16Speaker 3: laugh some magic helmet that can stop it, but for
- 8:19Speaker 3: right now.
- 8:20Speaker 4: And just to be clear, it says that the Giant's
- 8:22Speaker 4: medical staff and medical providers properly followed all the concussion
- 8:27Speaker 4: protocol steps. So this is about what the coach, Brian
- 8:29Speaker 4: da Ball did going into the tent. And yeah, okay,
- 8:33Speaker 4: talking in animated fashion, y I get that.
- 8:37Speaker 3: Okay, Well, anyways, for a rundown of the show, of course,
- 8:40Speaker 3: Chip and Kirk they're going to have their conversation that's
- 8:42Speaker 3: coming up here in just a couple of minutes at
- 8:43Speaker 3: right after final lap. We will you want to talk
- 8:46Speaker 3: the World Series a little bit later on the show.
- 8:49Speaker 3: We could do that because I was jumping up and
- 8:51Speaker 3: down when George Springer did what he did to the Mariners,
- 8:53Speaker 3: and we can get into that. Of course, the MLB
- 8:56Speaker 3: has a brand new manager in terms of the Giant
- 9:00Speaker 3: from Tennessee, so that's something we can hit on as well.
- 9:04Speaker 3: We'll talk some college football as well in the five
- 9:06Speaker 3: o'clock hour, and then Chip and Tony we'll have their conversation.
- 9:09Speaker 3: We can round out the show at the end of
- 9:11Speaker 3: the day with the police reports, and then we'll fill
- 9:12Speaker 3: everything in between with other stuff which I have not
- 9:15Speaker 3: figured out yet. I will be completely straightforward.
- 9:18Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 9:18Speaker 3: Normally when we come in here, we have this show
- 9:20Speaker 3: mapped out exactly how we want it to go. But
- 9:23Speaker 3: this is the second week in a row that our
- 9:24Speaker 3: production director has been out, and so I've been filling
- 9:28Speaker 3: in for him, basically doing the job of two people
- 9:31Speaker 3: myself and his which I'm happy to step up and do,
- 9:34Speaker 3: but it has taken all of my attention off of
- 9:36Speaker 3: actually being able to put this show together, so we're
- 9:38Speaker 3: kind of just doing it on the fly, which, you
- 9:40Speaker 3: know what.
- 9:40Speaker 4: One of those makes it a little more fun. It's
- 9:42Speaker 4: one of those weeks.
- 9:42Speaker 3: It's Friday, what the heck, right, So we'll figure the
- 9:45Speaker 3: rest of that out. But we do have a couple
- 9:47Speaker 3: things mapped out that we'll definitely talk about. I think
- 9:49Speaker 3: Chip told me he had some Elko audio that he
- 9:51Speaker 3: didn't use the other day, so we might be able
- 9:53Speaker 3: to throw that on as well. But for now, why
- 9:56Speaker 3: don't we get into final lap and then Chip and
- 9:58Speaker 3: Kirk will talk after that.
- 10:00Speaker 6: I'm Chad Jones. We know sports injuries hurt, and so
- 10:03Speaker 6: do injuries from car recks. But you didn't sign up
- 10:05Speaker 6: to be in a car wreck with someone who wasn't
- 10:07Speaker 6: paying attention. It was their fault, and now you're left
- 10:10Speaker 6: to deal with the consequences. You need to see a doctor,
- 10:12Speaker 6: and you're missing work. Chad Jones Law can help. We've
- 10:15Speaker 6: been helping our neighbors for more than two decades. Stop
- 10:18Speaker 6: getting frustrated with the other side's foot dragging. Remember, don't
- 10:21Speaker 6: get mad. Get Chad. Call Chad Jones Law at ninety
- 10:24Speaker 6: seventy nine five to nine five five thousand, or go
- 10:27Speaker 6: online to Chad Jones Law dot com.
- 10:31Speaker 7: Friday is here, So we've got to get you set
- 10:33Speaker 7: up for Martinsville Speedway. Only two races remain, and this
- 10:37Speaker 7: one gets drivers into the championship for race at Phoenix
- 10:40Speaker 7: on a point five twenty six mile asphalt oval, banking
- 10:44Speaker 7: not too much up to twelve degrees front hand back
- 10:46Speaker 7: stretches are equidition at eight hundred feet. Cup races five
- 10:49Speaker 7: hundred dizzying laps for two hundred and sixty three miles,
- 10:53Speaker 7: stages way in at one thirty, one thirty and two forty.
- 10:57Speaker 7: Playoff Drivers with wins at Martinsville include Christopher Well, Kyle Larson,
- 11:00Speaker 7: Joey Logano, Chase Elliott all with one, William Byron has two,
- 11:05Speaker 7: Denny Hamlin has six. In fact, only one driver doesn't
- 11:08Speaker 7: have a win, and that's Chase Briscoe. Last year's polesitter
- 11:11Speaker 7: was Martin Drugs Junior and last year's winner was Ryan Blaney.
- 11:15Speaker 7: Ryan Pries is on getting us all set up for
- 11:17Speaker 7: this weekend.
- 11:17Speaker 8: Yeah, Martinsville is a place that I love, and the
- 11:20Speaker 8: reason being is that's where I got my first modified win.
- 11:22Speaker 8: That's where I got my first Cup Series Poll. It's
- 11:25Speaker 8: where I've you know, multiple times in the modified. So
- 11:27Speaker 8: there's a lot of a lot of great things about Martinsville.
- 11:30Speaker 8: For me, it's just that track that there's certain certain
- 11:33Speaker 8: racetracks that drivers feel that when they go to them,
- 11:36Speaker 8: they feel like they can get that extra a little bit,
- 11:38Speaker 8: And when it comes to Martinsville, that's that's the style
- 11:40Speaker 8: of racetrack that you know, we're always a contender to
- 11:43Speaker 8: go get the poll.
- 11:44Speaker 7: All three series are in action, Truck Series going down
- 11:47Speaker 7: tonight at six pm on FS one, Xfinity Series tomorrow
- 11:50Speaker 7: seven thirty pm on c W, and the Cup Series
- 11:53Speaker 7: Race Sunday two pm on NBC. All of those times
- 11:56Speaker 7: are Eastern. This is the final app.
- 12:00Speaker 9: Think about it. You take thousands of steps every day.
- 12:02Speaker 9: Shouldn't every single one of them feel amazing well? With

- 13:08Speaker 10: forty six on his.
- 13:09Speaker 11: Own Welcome to the College Football Report with Kirk Bowles
- 13:14Speaker 11: of the Houston Chronicle and your host Chip Howard. The
- 13:17Speaker 11: College Football Report is brought to you by Brass's Homecare
- 13:21Speaker 11: and Tegler Chevrolet.
- 13:26Speaker 1: Kirk Bowles joins us on the Players Fund Center phone
- 13:29Speaker 1: line for another Friday of misery. So I'm trying to think,
- 13:34Speaker 1: did you pick b Yu or Utah last week?
- 13:38Speaker 12: I picked?
- 13:39Speaker 1: Yeah, I was afraid of that.
- 13:41Speaker 12: I picked every home game.
- 13:43Speaker 1: I was afraid of that.
- 13:45Speaker 12: Yeah, I think I picked up on you.
- 13:47Speaker 1: You did, you picked up two on me. I'm still
- 13:50Speaker 1: trying to figure out why I picked LSU to beat Vanderbilt.
- 13:55Speaker 12: Oh goodness, and we're not even I'm not picking this
- 14:00Speaker 12: game because I had others and I try to go
- 14:03Speaker 12: throughout the country.
- 14:05Speaker 1: But how is it that Oklahoma is a five and
- 14:08Speaker 1: a half point favorite over Old Miss. What does Las
- 14:11Speaker 1: Vegas know that I just can't get Well.
- 14:15Speaker 12: I'm glad you asked that, because apparently they know a lot.
- 14:18Speaker 12: And I was on the SEC conference called Coaching Wednesday,
- 14:24Speaker 12: right and I asked Lennie Kiffin about not about that,
- 14:29Speaker 12: but I said, I've been contending there should be five
- 14:32Speaker 12: SEC teams in the playoffs this year, and I wrote
- 14:36Speaker 12: about it in my nine Things this week, because you know,
- 14:39Speaker 12: the league is so strong and right now, you would
- 14:42Speaker 12: take Alabama, A and M in Georgia without even thinking,
- 14:46Speaker 12: right you know there would be locks right now. But
- 14:48Speaker 12: then you look at the Old Miss, you look at Oklahoma,
- 14:52Speaker 12: you look at Vanderbilt. You look at Missouri, you look
- 14:55Speaker 12: at Tennessee, and you would tell me those teams aren't
- 14:58Speaker 12: playoff teams. I mean, those teams wouldn't even do well
- 15:01Speaker 12: with a big ten. If you any of those teams,
- 15:04Speaker 12: then I think they'd be competitive as hell. So I
- 15:06Speaker 12: asked Lane if he agreed with five, then he said,
- 15:09Speaker 12: I do, and he said and then somebody else afterward
- 15:13Speaker 12: asked him a question about you know, what's your degree
- 15:16Speaker 12: of confidence in that? And he kind of laughed about that,
- 15:19Speaker 12: but he said they should ask what Vegas would do.
- 15:22Speaker 12: They should they should have Vegas to help decide.
- 15:26Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:28Speaker 12: Yeah. So anyway, so Lane and I are getting raked
- 15:32Speaker 12: over the Coles about saying Vegas knows anything about these teams,
- 15:37Speaker 12: and you know, and they've got the whole betting process.
- 15:40Speaker 12: They want both sides to bet obviously, you know bet
- 15:45Speaker 12: and sports knows that.
- 15:47Speaker 1: And now and now they've got an injury report, just
- 15:49Speaker 1: like the NFL has an injury report.
- 15:52Speaker 12: Oh yeah, absolutely absolutely in there and a lot of critiquers,
- 15:58Speaker 12: critics if you're Will on Twitter, saying and it's the
- 16:01Speaker 12: betting line just to get both bets. Well, because Ohio State,
- 16:05Speaker 12: it's a thirty point favorite over Kin of Saul State
- 16:08Speaker 12: doesn't mean that they think Ohio State will win by
- 16:10Speaker 12: thirty eight. I guess it does.
- 16:12Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly.
- 16:13Speaker 12: You know, it's like TV does, the betting public does.
- 16:18Speaker 12: And yeah, it's not just to get Kin of Saul
- 16:21Speaker 12: people betting, you know. So anyway, Okay, I'm a big
- 16:26Speaker 12: lady kiss and defender. And because he speaks his truth.
- 16:30Speaker 1: He does, he does, he's not afraid.
- 16:33Speaker 12: So few coaches willing to do that.
- 16:35Speaker 1: I couldn't agree more without coach Leads, coach Coach Kiffins
- 16:40Speaker 1: as close as we've got anymore.
- 16:42Speaker 12: Yeah, but to your question, yes, oh use it home,
- 16:47Speaker 12: Oh use defense is better than all misses. Uh, they're
- 16:51Speaker 12: due for a good game. I know they beat South Carolina,
- 16:53Speaker 12: so I guess they got their confidence back up a
- 16:56Speaker 12: little bit and maybe they're thinking emotional letdown, you know
- 17:00Speaker 12: after Ole Miss.
- 17:01Speaker 1: I can see the emotional letdown part. That's the part
- 17:03Speaker 1: I can see. But on a neutral field, I think
- 17:07Speaker 1: Ole Miss is thirteen points better than Oklahoma.
- 17:11Speaker 12: But that's not a neutral field.
- 17:13Speaker 1: I understand, I get it, But I okay, onto this.
- 17:17Speaker 1: The Long Orange now have won two in a row.
- 17:19Speaker 1: They are rolling into Starkville tomorrow. I mean heavy favorites.
- 17:26Speaker 1: They should just start building that momentum for the playoffs,
- 17:30Speaker 1: shouldn't they.
- 17:31Speaker 12: Oh yeah, they're scorching hot. You know, I don't know
- 17:34Speaker 12: if there's a hotter team in college football than.
- 17:37Speaker 1: What is going on over there?
- 17:40Speaker 12: What are you talking about? And won the games? What
- 17:42Speaker 12: do you what do you mean? I don't know. It's
- 17:44Speaker 12: like he seems to be so negative today. Yeah, they're
- 17:49Speaker 12: looking for an offense. They're going to you know, it's
- 17:51Speaker 12: the thrift stores and Goodwill and you know, shopping around
- 17:56Speaker 12: and you know, I don't know what's going on. I
- 17:59Speaker 12: mean them to go into Lexington and get eight first,
- 18:03Speaker 12: since eight not in the first half, not the second half.
- 18:06Speaker 12: They get eight and they have one hundred and seventy
- 18:08Speaker 12: nine yards total offense. And how they won that game
- 18:12Speaker 12: as a mystery.
- 18:13Speaker 1: Well, they were playing Kentucky. If they'd have played any
- 18:17Speaker 1: other team in the SEC, that would have lost.
- 18:20Speaker 12: Yeah. Well, but you know, you only play the team
- 18:22Speaker 12: you're playing, you know, you know that. Yeah, yeah, I'm
- 18:26Speaker 12: starting to sound like sorry here, it's like we won.
- 18:29Speaker 12: In fact, when he ended his press conference in Electington,
- 18:32Speaker 12: he stands up, he slams his hand on the table,
- 18:36Speaker 12: said we're two and one of the SEC. Wow, you know,
- 18:39Speaker 12: and so I guess he was wanting his team to
- 18:42Speaker 12: believe him. And then Michael Task, the safety who broke
- 18:44Speaker 12: the umber. The game is out.
- 18:46Speaker 11: They been the.
- 18:47Speaker 12: Probably two games. Yep, he kind of scolded and lectured
- 18:51Speaker 12: us for negative questions. You know, why would we have
- 18:55Speaker 12: a negative question when he had eight first down you know,
- 18:59Speaker 12: the within a hair of the season being over. But
- 19:03Speaker 12: you know, I'll give the defense credit if the championship
- 19:06Speaker 12: caliber defense, and they're playing very well because you know,
- 19:11Speaker 12: other than the Florida game, they've given up just one
- 19:16Speaker 12: touchdown to every other opponent besides Ohiose State and Ohio
- 19:21Speaker 12: State had one of their touchdowns like a forty five
- 19:24Speaker 12: yard drive with two personal fouls, right otherwise, you know,
- 19:30Speaker 12: in fairness, it might have been one touchdown to every team.
- 19:33Speaker 12: So but Kentucky played their butts off. The atmosphere was great,
- 19:37Speaker 12: like every SEC stadium is, and the defense, you know,
- 19:43Speaker 12: had enough to hold them off. But that was one
- 19:47Speaker 12: scary game. And I'm not sure you know where it
- 19:50Speaker 12: leaves Texas, but I think you have a very critical
- 19:53Speaker 12: questioning fan base over here as well.
- 19:55Speaker 1: So tomorrow in Starkville. Who you taking?
- 20:04Speaker 12: Boy? You know, Texas like a touchdown favorite, which I
- 20:07Speaker 12: don't get.
- 20:07Speaker 1: That seems like a lot.
- 20:09Speaker 12: Yeah, speaking of Vegas and lines, you know, I mean
- 20:14Speaker 12: I was.
- 20:15Speaker 1: Let me let me ask you this. You think Art
- 20:17Speaker 1: You think Art Briles is licking his chops at the
- 20:21Speaker 1: opportunity to call plays against the Longhorns tomorrow.
- 20:26Speaker 12: Oh maybe he's there. I wouldn't be surprised if he's
- 20:29Speaker 12: all the side of line. Yeah, and I'll go even further.
- 20:35Speaker 12: You know, I know they haven't won a game in
- 20:37Speaker 12: the conference, so what are they owe in three? And
- 20:39Speaker 12: I think they've lost what fifteen conference games in a row,
- 20:43Speaker 12: and they were over eight last year. I think mis
- 20:47Speaker 12: SIVI States the most improved team in the league. Yeah,
- 20:50Speaker 12: you know, And and they should have beaten Florida they're
- 20:53Speaker 12: driving for the winning field goal and lake shape and
- 20:55Speaker 12: throws the pass.
- 20:56Speaker 1: Well, they should have beaten Tennessee.
- 20:59Speaker 12: Yeah, yeah, it could have beaten both of those. They
- 21:02Speaker 12: ought to be five and two for sure, if not
- 21:05Speaker 12: six and one right now. I mean, they got it going.
- 21:08Speaker 12: And we've all been to Starkville and we still have
- 21:11Speaker 12: the cowbells ringing in our ears. I just see, you know,
- 21:15Speaker 12: they look so bad. Texas looks so bad at Florida
- 21:19Speaker 12: where Mississippi State was and one, and they came back
- 21:23Speaker 12: and played their bus off against Oklahoma. Now they look
- 21:26Speaker 12: just terrible against Kentucky. So I'm kind of expecting the same,
- 21:32Speaker 12: you know, But I think this is another field goal game,
- 21:35Speaker 12: you know, in the fourth quarter. So I'm kind of reluctantly,
- 21:40Speaker 12: hesitatingly going with the Longhorns.
- 21:42Speaker 1: Wow, I'm gonna take you. I'm gonna take Mississippi State.
- 21:46Speaker 1: I just I think the team that we see people
- 21:50Speaker 1: keep expecting something different, and that's that's insanity, to keep
- 21:55Speaker 1: doing the same things over and over and expecting the
- 21:58Speaker 1: same results.
- 21:59Speaker 12: And you've used of that before. So I don't just
- 22:03Speaker 12: written the whole arch manning thing. You know, we've been
- 22:07Speaker 12: kind of skirting around the edges. Nobody that I know
- 22:11Speaker 12: is calling for him to be benched, but I have
- 22:14Speaker 12: written that how long can this go on? And I
- 22:19Speaker 12: know it's a quarterback position and that's different, but any
- 22:22Speaker 12: other position, the backup is already in the game, and
- 22:26Speaker 12: a coach of the league that has to be to
- 22:28Speaker 12: his team more than one player, even one main Manning,
- 22:32Speaker 12: So I personally think, you know, if it's as rocky
- 22:36Speaker 12: as last week and Lexington was, you ought to look
- 22:39Speaker 12: at Matthew Calwell or Trey Owens or kJ Lacy because
- 22:44Speaker 12: quite frankly, I don't know what it would hurt, but
- 22:47Speaker 12: I know it would be a national story. Manning Benched,
- 22:50Speaker 12: you know where's he going to transfer? I get that,
- 22:52Speaker 12: but you know, there's season is more than a half
- 22:55Speaker 12: over now and Texas has looked nothing like a playoff
- 22:58Speaker 12: team so far than no Oklahoma game. So we shall see,
- 23:02Speaker 12: all right.
- 23:03Speaker 1: We'll continue with Kirk Bowles after this for Bras's Homecare
- 23:07Speaker 1: and Tagler's Chevrolet.

- 24:09Speaker 1: We're joined by the columnists of the Houston Chronicle. Let's
- 24:14Speaker 1: let's do the Sunflower game. Kansas State and Kansas There.
- 24:20Speaker 12: Were who who is Kansas? Can you tell me?
- 24:24Speaker 1: I don't know who Kansas is and I don't know
- 24:25Speaker 1: who Kansas State is. I I'm I'm fairly confident Kansas
- 24:30Speaker 1: has a better quarterback. He's been obviously as inconsistent as
- 24:35Speaker 1: the rest of the team. I did notice that the
- 24:39Speaker 1: Jayhawks are slight favorites. And I don't know what Kansas
- 24:45Speaker 1: State team you're getting from week to week as well.
- 24:48Speaker 1: So this this is a hard one. I'm I'm gonna
- 24:51Speaker 1: take Kansas at home. I'm gonna I'm gonna vote with
- 24:54Speaker 1: the quarterback that I think is better.
- 24:56Speaker 12: I didn't realize this, you know, Kansas State one sixt
- 25:00Speaker 12: in the road in that.
- 25:04Speaker 1: Yeah, that's not possible.
- 25:06Speaker 12: I was stunned to hear that. So and I'm a
- 25:12Speaker 12: big Chris Climbon fan, and I know it started rockies
- 25:16Speaker 12: for them in Ireland against Owa State being quite frankly,
- 25:19Speaker 12: and I think you and I both talked about that.
- 25:21Speaker 12: We weren't that impressed with either team right game and
- 25:25Speaker 12: they started one in three. You know now that they're
- 25:27Speaker 12: sitting at three and four mildly better, but they haven't
- 25:31Speaker 12: found a way to win one score games. You know,
- 25:34Speaker 12: Avery Johnson, you know, people thought he was going to
- 25:36Speaker 12: be the savior. That's why Will Howard left, yeah for
- 25:39Speaker 12: Ohio State, you know, and he hasn't proven to be consistent.
- 25:44Speaker 12: Jalen Daniels, as you said, had a terrible year last year.
- 25:48Speaker 12: Heard a lot. Uh He's young at eighteen touchdowns and
- 25:51Speaker 12: two interceptions, And it's their defense that's been the problem.
- 25:55Speaker 12: But they play a good team. They give up more
- 25:58Speaker 12: than thirty five points. But I'm with you, I'm gonna
- 26:00Speaker 12: go with Kansas and landslife.
- 26:02Speaker 1: Wow, Okay, South Florida and Memphis, this is an elimination game.
- 26:09Speaker 12: Yes it is. And South Florida's my team.
- 26:13Speaker 1: I like him.
- 26:14Speaker 12: I like Byron Brown, you know. I like their receivers.
- 26:17Speaker 12: I like their uptemple offense.
- 26:20Speaker 1: They're a hard nosed team.
- 26:23Speaker 12: They really are. And Brown you put him at a
- 26:26Speaker 12: power for school. He's a Heisman candidate. You know. They
- 26:29Speaker 12: just destroyed Forida Atlantic. Yes, I think he got something
- 26:34Speaker 12: like eighteen touchdowns in the last four games. And and
- 26:37Speaker 12: every thing's speaking of quarterback Memphis. You know Brendan Lewis
- 26:40Speaker 12: is there. He had a leg injury.
- 26:42Speaker 1: Yep.
- 26:43Speaker 12: And uh they lost the UA B in a center
- 26:46Speaker 12: last week and they had a freshman quarterback and taking it.
- 26:49Speaker 12: But they're kind of a running team now, and with
- 26:52Speaker 12: the injury situation being up in the air, they're going
- 26:55Speaker 12: to try to run the ball, control the clock.
- 26:57Speaker 5: Right.
- 26:58Speaker 12: I just think USF has two much offense, too much momentum.
- 27:01Speaker 12: I'm going with the.
- 27:02Speaker 1: Bull I'm too. And then Baton Rouge tomorrow night. A
- 27:06Speaker 1: and m has not won in Baton Rouge since nineteen
- 27:10Speaker 1: ninety four.
- 27:12Speaker 12: Yeah, but how long has Mike Elcho been the coach before.
- 27:17Speaker 12: That's the one factor you got a factor in. So hey,
- 27:21Speaker 12: what's the what's the over under on number of injuries?
- 27:24Speaker 12: Yaggies are gonna fake you know.
- 27:28Speaker 1: Hey, they're they're reviewing their processes.
- 27:31Speaker 12: Kurk Yeah, yeah, too soon, too soon. Then I was
- 27:34Speaker 12: on that same conference call and Mike was very adamantly,
- 27:38Speaker 12: you know, saying it shouldn't afflect our integrity or anything
- 27:43Speaker 12: like that. But I wasn't watching at the time. Were
- 27:46Speaker 12: you watching the game?
- 27:47Speaker 1: You know, I have not seen the angle the league
- 27:50Speaker 1: saw with the coach on the sideline apparently pointing to
- 27:54Speaker 1: the ground. I have just seen the player and it's
- 27:57Speaker 1: it's blatant, right, Yeah.
- 28:00Speaker 12: Yeah, it looked blatant. And I know the Aggies have
- 28:02Speaker 12: done that before, probably every team has done that before.
- 28:05Speaker 1: You know, they just weren't but enough at it. They
- 28:09Speaker 1: got caught.
- 28:10Speaker 12: Well that's the thing. I don't know if they teach
- 28:12Speaker 12: acting classes at college station, but you know, you got
- 28:15Speaker 12: to do better. I just can't believe anybody just drops Yeah,
- 28:20Speaker 12: you think you would think the smart coaches would tell
- 28:22Speaker 12: the player before. Okay, hey, you know we got to
- 28:25Speaker 12: stop this momentum. So you do you stay down act Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 28:30Speaker 12: not just dropped because there's just too many cameras. But
- 28:34Speaker 12: that said, you know, let me ask you this, Are
- 28:38Speaker 12: you at all worried about the Aggie defense points in
- 28:42Speaker 12: yards of Arkansas?
- 28:43Speaker 1: Not not particularly, I'll put it that way. I think
- 28:48Speaker 1: that that was a one off.
- 28:52Speaker 12: I would agree with you because Taylor Greens he's pretty good.
- 28:56Speaker 1: He's hard col.
- 28:58Speaker 12: He really is. And I'm Patrino's trying his ass off
- 29:02Speaker 12: to win that game perfectly. And and I think I
- 29:05Speaker 12: said on your show earlier that he's got to be
- 29:08Speaker 12: a and M Texas correct win that job.
- 29:11Speaker 1: I think that's right.
- 29:13Speaker 12: So l s U another mystery team. Yeah, you know,
- 29:18Speaker 12: right up there with Texas is the most disappointing teams
- 29:21Speaker 12: in the SEC. And you know they can't run the ball.
- 29:25Speaker 12: Yepmus Myrston very if he is, they gave up. I
- 29:30Speaker 12: think it was two hundred and thirty nine yards rushing
- 29:32Speaker 12: to Vanderbilt and Aggies like to run the ball. And
- 29:37Speaker 12: I just see a great game for cash is how
- 29:39Speaker 12: I think he's gonna go crazy, probably get two and
- 29:41Speaker 12: a half sacks. I just believe in the Agis. I
- 29:45Speaker 12: think I think you know if they run the table,
- 29:48Speaker 12: they got to win this game in Texas. I think
- 29:53Speaker 12: they get it done this year. I'm gonna take the.
- 29:57Speaker 1: I'm gonna take the too. I think they're a better
- 30:00Speaker 1: football team. I know, strange things happen at night and
- 30:03Speaker 1: Death Valley, and they have to overcome a lot of
- 30:06Speaker 1: history tomorrow night.
- 30:07Speaker 12: And I Kelly, he's gotta get a win pretty soon,
- 30:10Speaker 12: because he does. And you know, and you know what
- 30:13Speaker 12: this league is. Oh yeah, it just means more firing.
- 30:17Speaker 1: Oh there's no question he needs this game. It's a
- 30:21Speaker 1: huge game. But I just don't think he has a
- 30:24Speaker 1: good enough team.
- 30:25Speaker 12: Yeah, I agree with you. I think it's gotten the way.
- 30:28Speaker 12: It's just hard to regain that distancy of midyear. I
- 30:32Speaker 12: agree with you.
- 30:33Speaker 1: All right, Well, I'm hanging the whole weekend on the
- 30:36Speaker 1: Bulldogs of Mississippi State. That's how bad I've gotten.
- 30:40Speaker 12: So Oh well, you got the Mississippi State. You gets
- 30:43Speaker 12: him going for You.
- 30:44Speaker 1: Got the town bells, Take the Mere plugs, take the
- 30:49Speaker 1: mere plugs.
- 30:51Speaker 12: I got it.

- 32:46Speaker 4: Probably not. I'm probably gonna be stuck in here running
- 32:49Speaker 4: a Hig school football game. Yeah.
- 32:51Speaker 3: Well, Chauncey Billups and Terry Rozier might be dressing up
- 32:54Speaker 3: in some jail clothes too soon soon. Yeah, So obviously
- 32:59Speaker 3: this is the big story that just broke and shook
- 33:02Speaker 3: the entire NBA yesterday.
- 33:05Speaker 12: I mean.
- 33:07Speaker 3: Goodness, gracious, yeah.
- 33:09Speaker 4: I don't know that we've had a betting scandal. Get
- 33:11Speaker 4: this deep.
- 33:13Speaker 3: It's crazy because I woke up in the morning yesterday
- 33:16Speaker 3: and I saw the tweet from Chams, you know, the
- 33:21Speaker 3: big yeah him. I saw the tweets for him, and
- 33:23Speaker 3: I'm like, huh, reading through both of them, because I
- 33:26Speaker 3: wasn't the the Chauncey Billups one that came out first,
- 33:29Speaker 3: and I don't think what order it was, but he
- 33:32Speaker 3: came out and then followed it up with the other arrest.
- 33:35Speaker 3: And then as the day went on and more of
- 33:38Speaker 3: the details started to come out, the FBI held their
- 33:41Speaker 3: press conference that morning and gave us some more details there.
- 33:45Speaker 3: The scope of this is just kind of insane. I mean,
- 33:49Speaker 3: we me and you both have some notes on it,
- 33:51Speaker 3: but basically, you had both of them get arrested, and
- 33:55Speaker 3: it was the illegal sports betting and then the rigged
- 33:58Speaker 3: poker games tied to the mafia.
- 34:02Speaker 4: That's the one that sounds like it came out of
- 34:03Speaker 4: a movie. That's the one that's crazy.
- 34:05Speaker 3: It sounds like it came out. Yes, sports betting one is.
- 34:08Speaker 4: I mean, we had a baseball scandal like that, I
- 34:11Speaker 4: mean this year with the manual class A. Yeah, last year,
- 34:14Speaker 4: I think it was last year with Tukupita Marcano. So
- 34:16Speaker 4: that's not something that's that far fetched. But rigged poker
- 34:22Speaker 4: games involving the mafia, yeah, it was. Being an NBA
- 34:25Speaker 4: headline is not something I had on my Bengo card.
- 34:27Speaker 3: Thirty four people total were arrested. This was a multi
- 34:31Speaker 3: year investigation that covered eleven states, involving tens of millions
- 34:37Speaker 3: of dollars which there were. There were like actual crime
- 34:41Speaker 3: families involved in this, which is the mafia, so of
- 34:44Speaker 3: course there was. There's multiple charges against four different mafia
- 34:48Speaker 3: families and organized crime networks. So Terry Rosier, of course
- 34:53Speaker 3: he was the one that was actually doing the illegal
- 34:55Speaker 3: sports betting, which I guess was on himself. I saw
- 35:00Speaker 3: this tweet video of a game, and I don't know
- 35:05Speaker 3: if it's the game in question that's mentioned in this article,
- 35:08Speaker 3: but where he's out there and just doing the stupidest
- 35:11Speaker 3: stuff you've ever seen, like stupid turnovers, you know, just
- 35:15Speaker 3: horribly missing shots, and every and all the comments are like, oh,
- 35:18Speaker 3: he's one hundred percent guilty.
- 35:20Speaker 4: Right right, So I think the game that you're talking
- 35:23Speaker 4: about is the one against the Pelican.
- 35:26Speaker 3: Yeah, I think that's the one that was a twenty
- 35:28Speaker 3: twenty three game.
- 35:30Speaker 4: March twenty twenty three, So he had five points to
- 35:33Speaker 4: assist four rebounds in nine minutes.
- 35:35Speaker 3: Yeah, and he.
- 35:39Speaker 4: Removed himself due an injury right.
- 35:41Speaker 3: Nine minutes in it. And that's apparently that's just one
- 35:45Speaker 3: of seven different NBA games between March of twenty twenty
- 35:49Speaker 3: three and twenty twenty four that gamblers had this non
- 35:53Speaker 3: public information to use to bet on. And in three
- 35:57Speaker 3: of those seven games, like you were just mentioning, the
- 36:00Speaker 3: players intentionally removed themselves from the contest to benefit those bets,
- 36:05Speaker 3: which I saw, and they were They mentioned this on
- 36:09Speaker 3: Inside the NBA last night because I was watching that
- 36:11Speaker 3: on ESPN. When you make it twenty six million dollars
- 36:14Speaker 3: or whatever he was making, what are you doing? Yeah,
- 36:17Speaker 3: just oh, so you can make it extra fifty grand
- 36:19Speaker 3: Like so doing.
- 36:20Speaker 4: This that game against the Pelicans, specifically, he told his
- 36:23Speaker 4: childhood friend, whose name is de Niro, which is just great,
- 36:27Speaker 4: like we have a mafia story and a guy named yeah,
- 36:30Speaker 4: two separate things. Anyway, told him that allegedly allegedly that's important,
- 36:35Speaker 4: told him that he would remove himself from the game
- 36:38Speaker 4: in the first quarter, and his friend allegedly sold the
- 36:43Speaker 4: information to two betters for about one hundred grand.
- 36:46Speaker 3: Yeah, well, I mean that that in itself is bad.
- 36:49Speaker 3: But let's shift over to the Chauncey Billups mafia poker ring,
- 36:54Speaker 3: because that just gets even more insane. So let me
- 36:58Speaker 3: pull up because I had this, okay, So here's what
- 37:00Speaker 3: happened with him. And as I was reading this, seeing
- 37:03Speaker 3: the technology that they were using and just how elaborate
- 37:06Speaker 3: it was, yeah, my jaw kind of dropped. So here
- 37:09Speaker 3: here's the accusation with the Chauncey Billups thing. Okay, accused
- 37:15Speaker 3: of using their celebrity status to lure people into playing
- 37:19Speaker 3: poker games that were rigged by the mafia. It says
- 37:22Speaker 3: the organizers allegedly used sophisticated cheating technologies, including shuffling machines
- 37:28Speaker 3: that could read the cards in the deck, poker chip
- 37:31Speaker 3: trays with hidden cameras, special contact lenses and glasses that
- 37:35Speaker 3: could read pre marked cards, and an X ray table.
- 37:39Speaker 3: This is giving me cards face down. Think about that.
- 37:44Speaker 4: Just think about the an X.
- 37:45Speaker 3: Ray table so you could look at the face down cards.
- 37:50Speaker 4: I mean, I feel like you're spending more money on
- 37:51Speaker 4: the technicqus.
- 37:52Speaker 3: That's what That's exactly what I was about to say.
- 37:53Speaker 3: How much does it cost you to set this stuff
- 37:56Speaker 3: up versus what you're making off of this. I mean
- 37:58Speaker 3: clearly it said some were in here, they made a
- 38:00Speaker 3: lot of money. I mean they they called the people
- 38:03Speaker 3: fish that they lured in, you know, and it said
- 38:05Speaker 3: the mafia would use extortion and violence to make sure
- 38:08Speaker 3: that those fish would pay off their gambling debts. Since
- 38:11Speaker 3: April of twenty nineteen, victims lost at least seven million
- 38:15Speaker 3: dollars in those poker games, with one victim alone losing
- 38:18Speaker 3: almost two million.
- 38:21Speaker 4: And this goes back to twenty nineteen. Is another thing
- 38:23Speaker 4: that's crazy. I'm still that's why. Yeah, the multi year thing,
- 38:26Speaker 4: Like I'm not really I'm still not clear on why
- 38:29Speaker 4: these two things are together, but there are where is
- 38:32Speaker 4: that at? There were six people that were involved in
- 38:36Speaker 4: both cases.
- 38:37Speaker 3: I think yes, it was it was what was this?
- 38:40Speaker 3: Damon Jones was the guy, right, that was He was
- 38:42Speaker 3: the other big named I think mentioned he was there.
- 38:45Speaker 4: He was assistant coaches were named as defendants in both cases.
- 38:49Speaker 3: Yeah, Damon Jones was involved in. Damon Jones was also
- 38:53Speaker 3: the one that was telling people that Lebron was gonna
- 38:56Speaker 3: sit before the Bucks game or whatever.
- 38:58Speaker 4: Because Jones was a former Uhland.
- 39:02Speaker 3: Yeah player and assistant coach. Yeah, right, so he had
- 39:06Speaker 3: been on that team and he had that what they
- 39:08Speaker 3: they called the insider trading Saga of the NBA is
- 39:11Speaker 3: what the FBI director called it. So, I mean, goodness, gracious,
- 39:15Speaker 3: the NBA involved in a gambling scandal. Whoever would have
- 39:18Speaker 3: seen that coming?
- 39:19Speaker 5: Right?
- 39:20Speaker 4: But I mean, wow, that's all I could say that.
- 39:23Speaker 4: This was wow when this dropped. Oh man, I mean
- 39:27Speaker 4: you could turn this into one of those boards from
- 39:29Speaker 4: It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. The meme of they all
- 39:32Speaker 4: the different strings going everywhere. This is so crazy.
- 39:35Speaker 3: I'll be interested to see if this becomes a movie
- 39:37Speaker 3: one day.
- 39:38Speaker 4: I'd watch it.
- 39:40Speaker 3: I would watch this like I would absolutely, or a
- 39:43Speaker 3: docu series or something.
- 39:44Speaker 4: Yeah, something that's probably more realistic.
- 39:46Speaker 3: Yeah, probably like something that would air on ESPN or
- 39:49Speaker 3: something like that.
- 39:49Speaker 4: Or maybe it's thirty or something.
- 39:51Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly.
- 39:52Speaker 4: But wow.
- 39:53Speaker 3: Anyways, what do we have coming up next? We have
- 39:55Speaker 3: the Texans Report. Oh boy, they've been doing great lately,
- 39:58Speaker 3: haven't they. And the after that, we could talk a
- 40:01Speaker 3: little Baseball World Series action that'll be coming up in
- 40:03Speaker 3: just a little bit.
- 40:04Speaker 4: The Texans Report is brought to you by read Field

- 40:40Speaker 18: As the Houston Texans looked to bounce back and get
- 40:43Speaker 18: back in the win column, they faced a significant challenge
- 40:46Speaker 18: in the form of the first place San Francisco forty
- 40:48Speaker 18: nine ers. The Texans received some positive news yesterday as
- 40:51Speaker 18: rookie cornerback Jalen Smith returned to the practice field after
- 40:54Speaker 18: missing the past four games due to a hamstring injury.
- 40:57Speaker 14: The Texans selected Smith.
- 40:59Speaker 18: In the third round with the ninety eighth overall pick
- 41:01Speaker 18: this pass draft out of USC and he has emerged
- 41:04Speaker 18: as a nice contributor on the defense.
- 41:06Speaker 14: I'llbeit in a small sample size.
- 41:08Speaker 18: Meanwhile, the first injury report of the week was released
- 41:11Speaker 18: yesterday and worth noting two major pieces on the offense
- 41:14Speaker 18: did not practice. Wide receiver Nico Collins did not practice
- 41:18Speaker 18: due to a concussion, and wide receiver Christian Kirk did
- 41:21Speaker 18: not practice due to a hamstring injury. Still a lot
- 41:24Speaker 18: of time left in the week to determine their statuses
- 41:26Speaker 18: for Sunday against the forty nine Ers, but certainly something
- 41:29Speaker 18: to monitor. The Texans and Niners kickoff on Sunday at
- 41:33Speaker 18: Energy Stadium in the early window at noon.

- 43:21Speaker 3: Ryan and Caleb. However you want to spin it, we
- 43:24Speaker 3: got some baseball to talk. I do want to mention too,
- 43:26Speaker 3: because I haven't said this yet a number of the
- 43:28Speaker 3: high school games did move up their start times for
- 43:31Speaker 3: this evening because there is supposed to be some nasty
- 43:32Speaker 3: weather rolling through. It was a college station, Rudder and Console.
- 43:36Speaker 3: I believe that moved their times up. Yes, that's what
- 43:39Speaker 3: I'm seeing online. So everybody at six o'clock except for Brian. Yeah,
- 43:42Speaker 3: except for Brian though Brian is the only home game,
- 43:44Speaker 3: right yes, okay, well that's why they didn't move.
- 43:46Speaker 4: But yeah, that's coming tonight, so enjoy that.
- 43:48Speaker 3: But we need the rain, we really do. Anyways, Baseball, Now,
- 43:51Speaker 3: before we actually talk about World Series the matchup, how
- 43:55Speaker 3: big of the news was it this week about the
- 43:57Speaker 3: Giants hiring Tony But yeah, uh, that's.
- 44:03Speaker 4: Huge news for college baseball fans, you know, the former
- 44:07Speaker 4: head coach of Tennessee, and they've won uh just one
- 44:11Speaker 4: Natty with him, I think, but you know they're always Yeah,
- 44:14Speaker 4: we remember, always a contender. We we very much remember
- 44:17Speaker 4: the one he wanted them. Yeah, that was very don't
- 44:19Speaker 4: remind So that's definitely huge news for college baseball. Who
- 44:24Speaker 4: knows what Tennessee is going to do after that, what
- 44:26Speaker 4: they're going to look like this year. I don't know
- 44:28Speaker 4: how the transfer portal rules work in college baseball, but
- 44:31Speaker 4: I know in NFL or not NFL, in college football,
- 44:35Speaker 4: when your head coach leaves, you get a couple of weeks. Yeah,
- 44:38Speaker 4: there's we'll see if Tennessee does that. I don't think so.
- 44:42Speaker 4: I mean, college baseball typically isn't as volatile with people
- 44:47Speaker 4: moving around as college foball.
- 44:49Speaker 3: I'm more interested to see how this is going to
- 44:52Speaker 3: work out on the MLB side of this, because this
- 44:54Speaker 3: is the first time a big league team has hired
- 44:56Speaker 3: a manager directly from a college program who has no
- 44:59Speaker 3: experience as a pro coach. Did he did he play?
- 45:03Speaker 4: I don't think so.
- 45:04Speaker 3: See, that's the thing, like so, and I if maybe
- 45:07Speaker 3: I'm wrong about this, but no experience as a coach
- 45:09Speaker 3: and if he didn't play, like, how do you expect
- 45:11Speaker 3: those players in that locker room to have respect for he.
- 45:15Speaker 4: Did not play?
- 45:15Speaker 3: Yeah, so he didn't play professional at all. No no
- 45:18Speaker 3: professional ball, no professional coaching experience. So this really is
- 45:21Speaker 3: a first. And it's not the owners. I don't think
- 45:24Speaker 3: you've ever had a problem with it. But how these
- 45:28Speaker 3: players will react, I think is going to be This
- 45:30Speaker 3: is going to be a very interesting case study or
- 45:34Speaker 3: whatever whatever you want to call it as far as
- 45:36Speaker 3: seeing if something like this ever happens again.
- 45:39Speaker 4: So he played for Missouri two thousand to two thousand
- 45:43Speaker 4: and two, and it doesn't look like he did. I
- 45:46Speaker 4: think he went immediately became an assistant coach after his
- 45:49Speaker 4: playing career Missouri was over. Interesting Okay, well, I mean
- 45:53Speaker 4: maybe how you treat your players in college versus MLB
- 45:57Speaker 4: is extremely different, definitely, especially going eight to the big leagues.
- 46:01Speaker 4: Because I think it's Pat Murphy, the Brewers manager, spent
- 46:04Speaker 4: a lot of time at Arizona State. Maybe, but he
- 46:08Speaker 4: also managed in the minors for a while, right, So
- 46:11Speaker 4: not having gone through the professional ranks at all at
- 46:14Speaker 4: any point in his career, it's it makes it really
- 46:17Speaker 4: interesting as to how that's gonna go in San Francisco,
- 46:20Speaker 4: and I don't really see the vision on things will
- 46:24Speaker 4: be fine at first, but you know, when it comes up,
- 46:27Speaker 4: I think might be where you have players that don't
- 46:32Speaker 4: agree with an approach or whatever that he's doing. I mean,
- 46:35Speaker 4: they're gonna be like, this guy hasn't set foot on
- 46:37Speaker 4: a base professional baseball field.
- 46:38Speaker 3: He doesn't know what he's talking about. You know, I'm
- 46:40Speaker 3: gonna do it my way, which.
- 46:42Speaker 4: I think in general, all sports are getting younger, so
- 46:45Speaker 4: I don't know that it'll be like if this happened
- 46:47Speaker 4: in two thousand and six. I think MLB was a
- 46:52Speaker 4: lot more veteran leyden Right, so it might have been
- 46:55Speaker 4: a little bit different in how you know, the players
- 46:59Speaker 4: reacted with a lot of these yah, a lot of
- 47:01Speaker 4: these guys not being that far removed from college. But
- 47:04Speaker 4: in MLB you spend a lot of time in the
- 47:05Speaker 4: minor league, so you're you've gone through the professional ranks
- 47:09Speaker 4: and that's what you're used to. So when the college
- 47:11Speaker 4: guy comes in and if he tries to do things
- 47:14Speaker 4: the college way, that just is going to throw a
- 47:16Speaker 4: lot of people off. Yeah, it'll definitely be interesting to watch.
- 47:19Speaker 3: He wanted Tennessee.
- 47:20Speaker 4: So he did do that. He did. He's a proven winner.
- 47:23Speaker 3: So it's proven winner in college TVD on MLB. Now
- 47:28Speaker 3: moving on to the actual MLB stuff that people are
- 47:32Speaker 3: focused on. Now, it's the World Series. Man, dude, I
- 47:36Speaker 3: am so so glad, Like you have no idea how
- 47:39Speaker 3: happy I was when George Springer hit that home run
- 47:43Speaker 3: to give the Blue Jays the lead, because and you're
- 47:47Speaker 3: you're an Astros fan like me, but even if you're
- 47:49Speaker 3: a Rangers fan that shares the Al West bubble, we
- 47:52Speaker 3: hate the Mariners, both of us do. And I was
- 47:57Speaker 3: so scared that this was going to be the second
- 47:59Speaker 3: year in a row where I was gonna have to
- 48:00Speaker 3: root for a large media or to just smash into
- 48:03Speaker 3: Planet Earth and destroy us all versus having to see
- 48:05Speaker 3: a winner of that World Series. Because last year, when
- 48:07Speaker 3: it was the Yankees and Dodgers, that's how I felt.
- 48:10Speaker 3: Now it's the Blue Jays and Dodgers, which, thank goodness,
- 48:12Speaker 3: Mariners Dodgers. I would have probably jumped off a bridge already.
- 48:15Speaker 4: Last year was worst case scenario for sure. Those are
- 48:17Speaker 4: my least my two least favorite teams, everybody's least favorite team.
- 48:22Speaker 4: Yankees are Dodges exactly. And never mind, if it would
- 48:29Speaker 4: have been the Mariners, I think I still would have
- 48:30Speaker 4: rooted for him. No, I would have.
- 48:31Speaker 3: I wouldn't have rooted. I wouldn't have rooted for either way.
- 48:36Speaker 4: I have Bryce Miller. Former is it Bryce Miller. It's
- 48:38Speaker 4: a former Aggy. One of them is a former Aggy,
- 48:40Speaker 4: one of their pitchers. So I definitely would have rooted
- 48:42Speaker 4: for the Mariners over the Dodgers, just because I hate
- 48:45Speaker 4: the Dodgers. The only the only good storyline the Dodgers
- 48:48Speaker 4: have this year is Clayton Kerschel. That's it.
- 48:51Speaker 3: I mean, yes, but do we really think that the
- 48:54Speaker 3: Blue Jays are going to be able to stop the Dodgers?
- 48:56Speaker 4: Probably not.
- 48:57Speaker 3: I don't think so either. The Dodgers really just felt
- 49:00Speaker 3: like a team that sleep walked the entire regular season.
- 49:04Speaker 3: I mean, we were looking at the standings as we
- 49:06Speaker 3: go through and I remember saying to myself, Oh wow,
- 49:08Speaker 3: there's not one single team that's really running away with
- 49:11Speaker 3: it this year. It seems like it's wide open for anybody.
- 49:14Speaker 3: But the Dodgers kind of just flipped that switch as
- 49:16Speaker 3: soon as the playoffs started, right right.
- 49:19Speaker 4: Last year, they won ninety eight games and then won
- 49:21Speaker 4: the World Series. This year they won ninety three games,
- 49:24Speaker 4: and they've won one hundred games one, two, three, four
- 49:27Speaker 4: five times since twenty seventeen, right that they didn't win
- 49:30Speaker 4: it in Yeah, it definitely will be interesting. I mean,
- 49:33Speaker 4: they don't care about the regular season anymore, and I
- 49:35Speaker 4: don't blame them. I wouldn't either.
- 49:37Speaker 3: I don't blame them either, and I still say they
- 49:39Speaker 3: The MLB needs to do something about this whole deferring
- 49:42Speaker 3: contracts and the way that the Dodgers are absolutely just
- 49:45Speaker 3: breaking the game of baseball right now, because this shouldn't
- 49:47Speaker 3: be allowed. Man, this is so dumb, like seriously, because
- 49:52Speaker 3: I do the kind of run that they could continue
- 49:54Speaker 3: to go on. You know, when was the last time
- 49:56Speaker 3: we had a repeat champion? Was it the Yankees back
- 49:59Speaker 3: in when they did repeat. I mean, if there's a
- 50:03Speaker 3: team that's set up to do that again, it's gonna
- 50:05Speaker 3: be the easy guys.
- 50:06Speaker 4: Of course, it definitely looks likely. I was really hoping
- 50:10Speaker 4: that the Phillies would make it past It was the
- 50:14Speaker 4: Dodgers that knocked the Phillies out right.
- 50:16Speaker 1: Well, I don't know.
- 50:18Speaker 4: Rooting for the Phillies, I wanted them to finally break
- 50:20Speaker 4: through this year, but it was it was the Dodgers
- 50:22Speaker 4: that knocked out the Phillies. That was a brutal ending too, dude, Yeah,
- 50:26Speaker 4: it was. You know, that's gonna be. That's all that
- 50:30Speaker 4: guy's gonna be thinking about for the next because now
- 50:33Speaker 4: he's got the whole off season to think about it.
- 50:34Speaker 4: That's the worst, absolutely worst.
- 50:36Speaker 3: I mean yes, but it also eventually it turns into
- 50:39Speaker 3: motivation for next thing.
- 50:41Speaker 4: You lose like that. Yeah, when you don't have another
- 50:43Speaker 4: game to play soon after that, it can really just
- 50:46Speaker 4: sit there and fester.
- 50:48Speaker 3: Yeah, that's for sure. But I'll be rooting for the
- 50:50Speaker 3: Blue Jays because George Springer alone. Now I mean not not.
- 50:53Speaker 4: Because they are not the Dodgers.
- 50:55Speaker 3: They are not the Dodgers and they have George Springer,
- 50:57Speaker 3: and that's all I need to know.
- 50:59Speaker 4: The team from Canada as America's team. But you know
- 51:02Speaker 4: that's where we're at right now, dude.
- 51:04Speaker 3: And he's George Springer. I mean, they're they're everybody's been
- 51:07Speaker 3: bringing up the whole thing again, Yeah twenty seventeen, Like,
- 51:09Speaker 3: get over it, people, they.
- 51:10Speaker 4: Are no, they It's really weird to me that Yankees
- 51:15Speaker 4: and Red Sox and Dodgers fans are that vocal about
- 51:18Speaker 4: it because they know that their teams did the same thing.
- 51:20Speaker 4: They just didn't get caught, right, Like this is a
- 51:23Speaker 4: known fact. I mean, honestly, they did get caught kind of.
- 51:26Speaker 4: It's just that it wasn't as big a bit as
- 51:28Speaker 4: big of a deal because they didn't win the World Series.
- 51:32Speaker 4: But then the Red Sox did the next year and
- 51:34Speaker 4: nobody said anything about it.
- 51:36Speaker 3: Okay, well me let me ask what your take is
- 51:39Speaker 3: on this, and we can kind of both weigh in,
- 51:40Speaker 3: because we did get a text in from Joe who said,
- 51:42Speaker 3: the Dodgers are not ruining baseball. Owners need to open
- 51:44Speaker 3: up their pocketbooks and pay their players, don't penalize the
- 51:47Speaker 3: Dodgers who are willing to do so.
- 51:49Speaker 4: I mean, I mostly agree with that. It's just the
- 51:52Speaker 4: the third contracts things.
- 51:54Speaker 3: That's and I'll say that too because that's the specific
- 51:57Speaker 3: thing as well, the deferred contract thing. Really the like
- 52:00Speaker 3: they're kind of taking advantage of a loophole, if that's
- 52:03Speaker 3: what you want to call it.
- 52:04Speaker 4: I don't have a problem with like different structures of contracts,
- 52:06Speaker 4: like you want to pay it all up front or
- 52:08Speaker 4: pay it all at the very end. But ten years
- 52:11Speaker 4: down the line, I think I should do away with that. Yeah,
- 52:13Speaker 4: at least the Years can just declare bankruptcy and then
- 52:17Speaker 4: they don't even have to worry about that anymore. Right,
- 52:19Speaker 4: So that could be somebody else's problem. That's that might
- 52:22Speaker 4: be what their strategy is. They might be waiting to
- 52:24Speaker 4: pay show Hay until after he's done playing, because as
- 52:26Speaker 4: soon as he retires, there's going to sell the team
- 52:28Speaker 4: and not pay him.
- 52:28Speaker 3: Like, yeah, I would like to say allegedly, no, no,
- 52:32Speaker 3: I get what you're saying. I would like to see
- 52:34Speaker 3: them kind of rein that in a little bit, like
- 52:36Speaker 3: maybe instead of ten years, like three to five years,
- 52:39Speaker 3: defer some something a little more reasonable like that.
- 52:41Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 52:43Speaker 3: Anyways, it'll be an interesting series. I hope that the
- 52:45Speaker 3: Blue Jays can win at least one game, because I
- 52:47Speaker 3: don't expect them to win many.
- 52:49Speaker 4: But the Dodgers are a sixty percent chance of winning
- 52:52Speaker 4: according to ease. Really just sixty, yeap, just sixty. I
- 52:54Speaker 4: would have thought it would be higher than that. The
- 52:56Speaker 4: highest but okay, the highest chance is Dodgers and six
- 53:00Speaker 4: at eighteen percent.
- 53:01Speaker 3: Okay, Dodgers and six, all right, So they're giving the
- 53:03Speaker 3: Blue Jays a little bit of respect.
- 53:05Speaker 4: I think will win a couple.
- 53:06Speaker 3: It is the game of baseball. It's one of, if
- 53:10Speaker 3: not the most unpredictable game when it comes to the postseason,
- 53:13Speaker 3: so maybe they will pull it off. I would love
- 53:15Speaker 3: to see George Springer destroy the Dodgers' hearts round two.
- 53:18Speaker 4: I would. The thing I'm the most confident in right
- 53:21Speaker 4: now is that the Dodgers are definitely gonna win Game one. Yeah,
- 53:26Speaker 4: definitely gonna Yeah, going on the road. You Savage, which
- 53:30Speaker 4: is such a great name, Yeah, you Savage is top
- 53:33Speaker 4: to your name.
- 53:33Speaker 3: That is a top to your name.
- 53:34Speaker 4: That game is at seven o'clock tonight, right, yes, okay
- 53:37Speaker 4: on Fox on Fox. But yeah, Blake Snell has three
- 53:42Speaker 4: postseason starts and has an ERA under one. Yeah, eighty
- 53:45Speaker 4: six as twenty eight K pretty solid, so I don't
- 53:48Speaker 4: see the Blue Jays being able to touch him game one.
- 53:51Speaker 4: I think he's gonna be fired up, ready to go.
- 53:52Speaker 4: So I would definitely take Dodgers Game one. I'm not
- 53:54Speaker 4: going to say anything about the series, but definitely Game one.
- 53:58Speaker 3: Yeah, I would lean that way as well. Anyway. Tell
- 54:01Speaker 3: you what, let's close out the four o'clock hour and
- 54:03Speaker 3: then we'll do a little college football talk coming into
- 54:05Speaker 3: the five o'clock hour.
- 54:07Speaker 4: Sounds good, all right?
- 54:11Speaker 1: Ay, Producer's Cooperative is closing up at five point thirty,

- 55:43Speaker 4: Tony Katalina, the Austin American Statesman.
- 55:46Speaker 1: Were you taking an LSU game?
- 55:47Speaker 20: Yeah, it's you know, I think I told you I
- 55:50Speaker 20: had them ten and two this year. I had the
- 55:51Speaker 20: first loss LSU at the preseason. I'm not picking against
- 55:55Speaker 20: A and M. I understand the history here in nineteen
- 55:56Speaker 20: ninety four.
- 55:57Speaker 1: You're changing from your August picks.
- 56:00Speaker 13: AM.
- 56:00Speaker 20: A and M's a better football team than even I thought,
- 56:02Speaker 20: and LSU is worse than I thought they were gonna be.
- 56:04Speaker 20: I thought LSU is gonna be daunting, and I think
- 56:06Speaker 20: the most daunting thing about LSU is gonna be the environment.
- 56:10Speaker 1: It's gonna be the night game. It's gonna be.
- 56:12Speaker 20: But I you know, I had Kochie Riley on the
- 56:13Speaker 20: podcast this week from The Advocate, and he thinks that
- 56:17Speaker 20: if this gets ugly quick, and it's A and M's
- 56:19Speaker 20: job to get ugly, to make it ugly quick a role,
- 56:21Speaker 20: they'll they'll quit.
- 56:22Speaker 1: Yeah, they'll quit.
- 56:23Speaker 20: And then the and the and the the natives will
- 56:25Speaker 20: get restless, right and like the crowd will turn on
- 56:28Speaker 20: the fans.
- 56:28Speaker 1: And if A. M.
- 56:29Speaker 20: Jumps on early. This could get ugly for LSU and
- 56:32Speaker 20: I think A and M is equipped to do that.
- 56:34Speaker 19: Hang out with Louis weekdays eleven to two on the Zoni,
- 56:37Speaker 19: eleven and fifty am and ninety three point seven the Firm.
- 56:41Speaker 3: All right, we're gonna wrap up before the clock hour,
- 56:43Speaker 3: but we got plenty more coming up in the five
- 56:45Speaker 3: o'clock hour. We'll open it up with some college football discussion.
- 56:48Speaker 3: Chip is going to talk to Tony Catalina as they
- 56:51Speaker 3: do and sit down every week. We will probably throw
- 56:54Speaker 3: some NFL talking there as well, a gout of Texans
- 56:57Speaker 3: and forty nine ers for what that's worth. This coming
- 56:59Speaker 3: weekend police reports as always to end out the show.
- 57:03Speaker 3: That's all coming up inside the five o'clock hour.
